White House Defends Trump’s Claim That 99% Of Cases Are ‘Totally Harmless’
"White House correspondent Kaitlan Collins joining us that Galen President and his team seemed to have an alternative reality when it comes to the pandemic, hundreds of Americans are continuing to die every single day. Well won't that certainly the president has had to be really interested in the response to the pandemic as as nick noted, we are seeing these outbreaks new cases, and what's happening across the United States? Some states are scaling back their reopenings, but wolf on several fronts today the white. House is having to defend comments. The president made in recent days starting with claim about corona virus cases in the United States here at the White House on Saturday night to a tweet this morning where he seemed to criticize NASCAR for banning the confederate flag from its events. with, infections surging across the country White House officials spent the day insisting president trump isn't downplaying the severity of the coronavirus pandemic I. don't even know that this is a generalization when you start to look at the stats and look at all the numbers that we have the amount of testing that we have the vast majority of people are safe from this ready downplaying the severity of the virus, the chief of staff and press secretary argued instead that president trump was referencing the fatality rate when he wrongly made this claim. Saturday night that ninety nine percent of corona virus cases are totally harmless. Now we have tested almost forty million people. By so doing, we showcases. Ninety nine percent of which. Are totally harmless. Results. That no other country can show because no other country is testing that we have the FDA. Commissioner refused to back up or correct what the president said. Despite being pressed multiple times is the president wrong? So I'm not going to get into WHO's right and WHO's wrong. What I'm going to say Dan is what I've said before which is that it's a serious problem that we have.
Coronavirus task force holds first briefing in months as cases hit record high
"The United States about to hit forty thousand new corona virus cases today. The first time that we've had that many one day, the death toll in the United States closing in on one hundred twenty five thousand people, but if all you did was listened to the president and vice president today, you would be absolutely stunned here what I just said because this is what they said. Today? All fifty states and territories across this country are are opening up safely and responsibly. Well, that's incorrect. It's factually incorrect. They're not I mean eleven. States are currently on pause. Some of them are actually backtracking and closing some things down on plans to reopen Texas and Florida specifically. They are rolling back reopening plans governors of the other nine states. They are not moving forward with the next phase of reopening. So that was incorrect, and then the vice president went on to make this claim. The truth is we did slow the spread. We flattened the curve. So he says we flattened curve, so let me just show you America's curve. So you see, the surge right and then in in March and then you see the plateau. And then you see. The jump there at the end where we are now getting to fifty forty thousand cases today. That was a plateau, and it's on its way back up and I want you to compare the graph to these other graphs. These are countries around the world right? They have that surge at the beginning the UK Germany France Italy Japan South Korea European countries measured in thousands of cases Asian in hundreds, but look what happens at the bottom. They go all the way back down and stay that way. Ours never went down right, and now it's going back up currently with the same steepness of slope as it did at the beginning. And yet the vice president was taking a victory lap during today's briefing and he made sure to credit person number one. Under the leadership of President, trump is the president's made clear credit I believe to our president of the president made that decision. So, where was the president during this briefing while he was somewhere in the vicinity, but he was on twitter, talking about confederate statues, tweeting this image of people suspected of trying to vandalize statue of Andrew Jackson and what he was writing was that many people in custody with many others being sought for vandalisation of federal property in Lafayette Park Ten year prison sentences. It was hours later that the president did finally say something about the pandemic. That's amazing raging right now in the United States like nowhere else here he s. We have work to do that. We'll get it done. while. That's an understatement it. We are learning tonight that people traveling from the United States most likely will not be allowed to even enter the European Union. Banned, because the United States has gotten the virus under control Kaitlan Collins is out front. She's live outside. The White House Tonight Caitlyn. No briefings for eight weeks the White House. Felt like they had to do something here, but then they came out and said everything's opening you safely and responsibly opening fifty states. When that's just you know factually untrue. Yeah. It wasn't the message that some people were expecting the vice president to project from that briefing today after Wednesday's coronavirus task force briefing, and after you're seeing these numbers from this week including yesterday setting a record high of cases per day since the month of April, of course, which is the last time that they had these coronavirus briefings now you would that they would have. have taken more questions. The vice president instead of Aaron only took a handful of them, but before he started taking questions, you saw him arguing saying that he doesn't want the American people to think that because of these new surging infections that the United States where it was two months ago, even though the case numbers per day or mirroring that or beating it and. And of course, the vice president went on to talk about what precautions Americans should be taking. He ticked off a list of things that the CDC has recommended. But Aaron he notably left out wearing a mask when a reporter asked about the fact, that mask have become this political issue. He then only told people that they should be following local or state guidance ignoring the. The fact that the CDC a Federal Agency of course, has recommended that people wear masks when they are out in public, and within the vicinity of other people. He also defended those rallies that he and the president have been holding and encouraging their supporters to come to where thousands of people are put indoors with very little social distancing errand by saying that it was people's. People's right to the first amendment characterizing it more as a personal decision than something that they're organizing and urging people to come in to attend, but I do want to note to striking things that came out of that briefing today was the vice president offering a pretty rosy assessment of these numbers, and then Dr Falcon getting up there and having a very sobering warning. What's to? To come and personal responsibility and this, but also Aaron the vice president saying he believed it's an arguable that the reason that there are more cases in the united. States because there's more testing Dr. burks got up and she was going through these slides and one of the ones she pointed to was Texas where it showed in May as they were increasing testing their positive. Positive test rates were going down in the last two and a half weeks they continue to increase testing, but now those positive test rates Aaron are going up, and that completely refutes with the president and the vice president have been telling people and governors for the last several weeks. All right, thank you very much. CAITLIN absolutely makes the crucial point. Right the percent test rate. Rate is what they're looking at twenty percent of them. Positive that that's that's the relevant point. It's not the absolute number and Caitlyn I. Appreciate Your Time, so let me go now to Dr. Sanjay Gupta and Dr Jonathan Reiner. Who Advise the White House medical team under president? George W Bush currently in Cardiac Cath lab at Gw so so sanjay the vice president today. Came out and presented an alternate reality. he said all fifty states and territories. This country are opening up safely and responsibly. That is quote obviously the have double digit states halting stepping back. They're reopening all together big steps back. Yeah I mean. I. Don't even know where to begin with this particular briefing. You know you think two months. We haven't had a briefing. There's obviously some real trouble spots in the country and I'm. Saying that almost euphemistically I thought there was going to be an acknowledgement that look. We have some problems. Significant ones in here is our plan to address them. Here's what we're GonNa do we're convening the coronavirus task force to to address this? We didn't see that at all. I mean there's the last task force briefing. You can see what the numbers were at that point and obviously just see how the numbers have grown even over the last few weeks. Weeks, so it it it was it was a real concern, and there were a lot of things that were said that were just basically a whitewash of what's actually happening in the country, and that's what I think. Worries me. How are you GonNa fix the problem. If you don't even acknowledge it right well, that's the thing. If you're in complete denial about it, then you obviously don't have a plan to fix it because you don't believe it's their. Running when the president actually gave a nod to this this afternoon, his comment was making a lot of progress with the whole situation, but we have a lot of work to do but he did not attend the briefing instead he was treating about those confederate Mon. Monuments So, you know in the vice president. There was talking about all the encouraging news again. His words talking about Krona virus so. What do you make of this and I guess specifically the president's refusal to be there. Yeah the president. In a tweet about the monument seems to be more interested in protecting long dead confederate traitors. He is in protecting Americans right now. Yeah, I was really appalled. When the vice president today said well, we've all heard the encouraging news you encouraging news, really
Trump invokes Defense Production Act for ventilator manufacturing
"FEMA has put about has put thousands of ventilator shipments on hold as officials work to determine where they are most needed correspondent Kaitlan Collins says the trump administration is also trying to prompt private industry to help me more supplies president is once again invoking the defense production act to six companies so he says he can help facilitate the supply materials so they can start getting those ventilators built well not private level from those private companies that we saw him use for the first time
Trump announces social distancing guidelines extended to April 30
"President trump spoke with reporters at the daily virus task force briefing Monday detailing his decision to extend social distancing guidelines through the end of April correspondent Kaitlan Collins has more from the White House last week aides inside the White House did not think the president was going to go along with their advice to not use those guidelines the dent in it in the end of course he did and we saw another turn in what the president is saying today when he said that the economy is now number two in his book as far as his priorities going that is not
Trump met Brazilian official with coronavirus, but says 'not concerned'
"I think you're Brazilian official who attended weekend events with president trump in Florida has tested positive for the coronavirus but so far president trump does not plan to be tested we're going to self quarantine correspondent Kaitlan Collins vice president Mike pence was also at Mar a Lago over the weekend when the Brazilian president and his aides were there he has also not been tested for coronavirus and though other officials who came into contact with the Brazilian officials say they are self quarantining people like senator Rick Scott of Florida they say they're doing that Adam abundance of caution but right now that is not the plan here at the White House for the president or the
Trump denies knowing Giuliani associate Lev Parnas
"President trump is on the attack in predicting a quick Senate impeachment trial as the non-partisan independent arm of the government called the Government Accountability Office or Gao concluded that the trump administration broke the law when it was held security aid to Ukraine last year ear and CNN's Kaitlan Collins reports. Now the president is also continuing to deny that he knows a Rudy Giuliani associate who calls himself. Trump's asset in Ukraine today new revelations or complicating with the White House had hoped would be an easy senate trial very quickly to host a non-partisan partisan federal watchdog agency has determined the trump administration broke the law when it withheld military aid to Ukraine according to the Government Accountability Ability Office blocking that military assistance violated a law that limits the president's ability to withhold money already approved by Congress and faithful execution of the law does not permit the president to substitute his own policy. Priorities for those Congress has enacted into law today. The White House defended the move. Move by saying the nearly four hundred million dollars in aid was eventually released. I'm very glad that Ukraine got its aid and got it within the deadline. While officials aren't expected to be prosecuted for the violation. The release is fueling more questions ahead of trump's senate impeachment trial. This is a bombshell as we head into the Senate Trial Democrats say it underscores the importance of having witnesses and new documents and the trial this reinforces again. The need for documents and witnesses in the Senate the White House has spent the last several days finalising its defense but new revelations made by a recently recently indicted associate of Rudy. Giuliani's could turn their plans upside down today. Trump denied knowing love Parnis despite having multiple photos goes with him other than I guess pictures taken which I do. Thousands of people in the president was aware of his efforts to get dirt on the Biden's and was in close coordination with Giuliani. But today trump said he doesn't think they've ever spoken never had a conversation that I remember with him. I don't need the help of a man I and I never met before. Despite parnassus claim he did nothing without the consent of Giuliani when it came to Ukraine trump stood by his personal attorney. Today today is is somebody that frankly having him on my side was a great honor for me and it has been a great honor for me now Jake. Trump trump was also asked about a letter. That Rudy Giuliani had sent to then. Ukrainian president elect Zielinski saying that he had president trump's knowledge and consent to ask ask for a meeting with him. This letter released by House Intelligence Committee this week. Trump said he had no knowledge of that letter but really Guiliani had written written it and sent it. He you would not have a problem with it are Kaitlan Collins at the White House for his. Thanks so
Democrats release transcripts of testimony from three officials ahead of first impeachment inquiry public hearing
"Releasing a trove of impeachment transcripts. Tonight and they tell this story. Trump and his defenders withholding withholding crucial aid to Ukraine in an effort to please Russia Catherine Kroft the current special adviser for Ukraine negotiations telling lawmakers the president's Acting Acting Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney had the office of Management and budget put a hold on delivering javelin missiles to Ukraine. Because Mulvaney was concerned quote that Russia Russia would react negatively to the provision of javelin to Ukraine to be clear the story Mulvaney bending over backwards for Russia when according to cross testimony all other parts of the US government involved in the javelin deal supported it. Also tonight we're learning. Christopher Anderson a career foreign service officer testified the president's special envoy to Ukraine believed Rudy Giuliani quote was an obstacle to improving relations and putting pressure on Russia. And there's a third erred testimony that we are seeing tonight for the first time. From top Pentagon official Laura Cooper the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense telling lawmakers about a meeting back in July where officials raised raised concerns about whether it was illegal for trump to withhold crucial military aid for Ukraine in exchange for dirt on Joe Biden Cooper. Saying immediately deputies begin into raise concerns about how this could be done in a legal fashion. That's a quote from the testimony. So what is president trump saying about these three transcripts that we are seeing tonight well. He tweeted twice today. That Congressman Adam. Schiff is fabricating the transcripts. Which of course is false? These are the transcript. Republicans have been in these hearings. They've been asking questions and not one. Republican has come forward to say say that Democrats have lied and Dr Transcripts. It's an absurd claim this is all unfolding of course. Trump is about to face the biggest threat to his presidency in less less than forty eight hours. Democrats will take their case for impeachment public holding the first historic public televised hearing with Bill Taylor. Trump's top diplomat in Ukraine. Remember right it was Taylor who laid out that evidence of quid pro quo testimony that for some Republicans was a game changer. Kaitlan Collins is traveling with the president tonight and she is out front live in New New York. That's where the president is outside trump tower. This evening Caitlyn so You know I mentioned those tweets but how is the president feeling tonight with these public hearings looming the president and his football days indoors inside trump tower here behind me ever since he gave those remarks the veteran's Day parade earlier today tonight. He's lashing out repeating that claim that he believes. Democrats are putting out Dr Transcripts even though as you noted Republicans who were in the room for those closed-door testimonies have disputed the accuracy of them but the president it is also seeming to let the deadline slip on. When he's going to release the transcript of his first call with the Ukrainian president something that he told me on Saturday? He was going to be doing tomorrow now he just says it's going to happen sometime this week. Now Aaron that's coming. Something really notable is happening with his chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney who was attempting to join this lawsuit filed by the former deputy national security advisor. Who's essentially asking the courts to decide? Does he have to listen to house. Democrats or the White House when it comes to testifying on Capitol Hill. Charlie Kupperman said he didn't want vein essentially to be on that lawsuit. He didn't think the same reasons given that he was a national security official. WHO's no longer in the administration and Mick Mulvaney? Any isn't a national security official who still works in the White House tonight. We're learning that Mick. MULVANEY plans to file his own lawsuit asking the courts to decide whether or not he has to respond to that subpoena subpoena on Capitol Hill an errand. That's notable not only because he's the chief of staff who still works president trump but also because of the role he played in that White House letter. Remember that eight page letter. They publish essentially telling White House. Officials not to comply with any requests from Democrats giving them protection essentially not to. Now Mick. Mulvaney wants to leave that decision sued for him in the court's hands. All right CAITLIN. Thank you very much. And I WANNA Democratic Congressman Gerry Connolly. Now he sits on both the the House Foreign Affairs and oversight. Committee's congressman. Lots to talk about tonight obviously But I want to start with some of this new information that we're getting from transcripts Cooper Testified Lark Cooper. That is that. There was concerned withholding aid from Ukraine. Was Not even legal. Do you believe from everything you've seen from being in the room. From seeing these transcripts the president trump's administration was indeed breaking the law We're GONNA have to obviously IMO. That one over. I believe the president broke the law in extorting The president of another country By withholding the military aid I believe given the fact the congress wanted this lethal military aid including the javelin is to go to Ukraine the president ignoring it suspending it is in a very questionable suitable area. But there's no question that by withholding the aid for the purpose of extortion. That was an illegal act so so in the newly released transcripts and other thing. We're learning right from Catherine craft. In this case. She testified that Mulvaney was concerned and I quote from her testimony that Russia would react the negativity to the provision of javelin to Ukraine. And she also of course says that every other you know administration unit was involved supported Providing these chaplains to to Ukraine so You know how what is there any situation. Okay let me put it this way congressman or any situation in which this would be true that they would have withheld this because they they were concerned about Russia's reaction that makes sense to you know in fact it's actually a repugnant thought. Javelin missiles are are very effective. Antitank weapons the Russians and their paramilitary forces have tanks and other military equipment in active combat in the eastern part of Ukraine. Ukrainian government wanted those javelin missiles to defend itself to protect itself for Mick Mulvaney. The the president's Acting Chief of staff to be concerned about the Russian reaction as opposed to the need of Ukraine's government is You know a warped sense of values and really a a Har- finding thing to contemplate that somebody so senior and our government would put Russia's concerns ahead of the those of our ally Ukraine. So you mentioned Mick Mulvaney and of course he's now saying tonight. Radio joined a lawsuit for with John. Bolton's deputies now he's now how out he's going to file his own lawsuit to let the judge decide whether that he needs to honor your subpoena and testify in the impeachment inquiry. And I just WanNa make sure you know first of all any lawsuit would take time. You made it clear you're going to go ahead and you don't need his testimony. Does this change anything for you or are you going to wait for the court to decide on this. We're not no in fact Some of the subpoenas has you know were withdrawn so that we're not held up in litigation in the courts which just take way too much time. We need to address this and address this in real human timeframes. I will say that the craziness continues for the president today to assert assert based on nothing. The transcripts were doctored and don't really reflect the deposition of the witnesses. We heard from and by the way those transcripts reviewed by those witnesses and their attorneys before they're released for accuracy but secondly of course to have the chief of staff of the president actually suing doing his own White House to get a decision about whether or not he's Required to respond to Congressional demand for testimony or the White House Directive. It really brings us into all new territory in terms of
Nikki Haley's Audacious Bet
"With the politics lead internal White House concern about president. Trump's conduct conduct in a new book former ambassador to the United Nations. Nikki Haley recounts then Chief of Staff John Kelly and secretary of state. Rex tillerson telling her that when they were listed the president it was to save the country. Haley called their actions offensive and said they should've quit as C. N. N.'s Kaitlan Collins reports. This all comes as president in a trump and sister republicans. There's nothing to see here on a peach mint as the White House. Braces for the first public testimonies. President trump is attempting getting a new defense now claiming the transcripts of the testimonies behind closed. Doors are doctored by Democrats tweeting. Republicans should put out their own own transcripts despite his claim Republicans who were in the room having disputed the accuracy of the transcripts which witnesses spent hours reviewing doing that is truly an honor to come back to New York City in New York. I'm Veterans Day trump railed against the inquiry from behind his keyboard just days before the hearings hearings begin. Some Republicans are saying the call was wrong but not impeachable that the president asked for an investigation of a political rival. That's over the line. Ah But if he asked for an investigation of possible corruption by someone who happens to be political rabble. That's not over them. That's ignoring during trump's advice not to use that defense. The White House insists there in lockstep in terms of messaging our all on the same page but as trump and his allies is dispute the testimonies of current and former aides. Their accounts of a chaotic White House. Run by an impulsive. Present are being confirmed in her new memoir. Keke Haley Claims John Kelly Rex tillerson tried to recruit her to join them and undermining ignoring trump's commands in an effort to save the country instead. Instead of saying that to me they should have been saying that to the president not asking me to join them on their side bar plan. Kelly didn't refute Haley's claims claims but said if providing the president with the best and most open legal and ethical staffing. Advice is working against trump. Then guilty as charged Haley who may have political ambitions over own steered clear of criticizing trump as. She argued against his impeachment. Do I think that is good. I think it is not a good practice for us. Ever to ask a foreign country to investigate an American I don't but did the Ukrainians call for an investigation. No did the president hold up aid. He released the aid as he should. I don't see it as impeachable now. Dan in the next hour a federal judge is going to start hearing arguments about whether or not the chief of Staff Mick. Mulvaney can join that lawsuit that was filed by the former deputy national national security advisor essentially asking if they've to listen to house Democrats or the White House when it comes to testifying on Capitol Hill. Charlie government has signaled. He doesn't want to be able to join that lawsuit and instead follow his own but it's also notable for another reason. Mulvaney that she was staff was played a part in drafting that eight page letter from the White House instructing instructing White House officials not to comply with any requests from house Democrats. But now he seems to want to rely on the court's decision about that talk about entry. If we might get the decision from the court the top of the hour. Thank you so much for that report. Ceylan back with our panel. Let's talk about the big news that we know of EH ETA Nikki Haley Book which is That tillerson and John Kelly said we need to save the country. They're not denying the that that you said that. What is really remarkable is that I'm sure you all heard Iowa's heard at the beginning of the administration that there was sort of a pact among the top national security cabinet officials goals that they needed to stick together to do? Just this Nikki. Haley is confirming that that was accurate. Yeah she is but I also I mean it's very She's doing it for her own benefit. Right I mean she's really selling people out as far as I can tell I mean I think the assumption is that they were coming to her in confidence out of concern for things that were going on In the White House now she's turning around and using it to her benefit to try to curry favor with president trump. I think her argument that well if they had a problem they should have onto to president trump. How does she know they didn't? I mean I'm assuming. They probably did discuss their complaints with Donald Trump and if they had serious concerns and they went to her These are people that let's remember. Donald Trump held up as his sort of pre eminent appointments. I mean they were the crown jewels of his were generous administration situation right. The he was held up in these are the best people and now suddenly I you know I think I think I'm just saying I think if they had concerns. I think that that's the story Eh. It's not the the the fact that it'd be -actly yeah. She's trying to make it out that they're doing something wrong. Yeah I'm the good girl that you said that that is the story. Yeah story is we have her saying. And I'm not denying that the secretary of State that the chief of staff and maybe even others were were trying to protect the country from the present. They work for well done of this confirms what's been coming out in book after book after investigative piece there have been so many and only three three years of the presidency that showed a pattern of people trying to work around the president or simply ignoring his direct orders simply bleat taking the order and doing what they intended to do in the first place in effect running parallel presidency. This lines up beautifully with that story which which people denied at the time also confirms exactly what Rex Tillerson and John. Kelly have both publicly said John. Kelly recently said that if left to his own devices the president would do something that would amount to impeachable defenses. That's why I think what Nikki Haley is. Doing here is sort of going. After a low hanging fruit these are two people who left the administration with a really deteriorated raided relationship with President trump. Going after them sets her up to be a pro trump candidate in twenty twenty four twenty twenty eight when i Seoul still think that maybe someone like Jeb Bush can come in and be the. GOP Senator Nikki Haley realizes that she needs trump if she does at least ambitious exactly right. The Republican Party has changed so much having said that the Washington Post obtained Another part or probably the whole book but they wrote about another part of her book. Tuck where she said quote. She went privately to the president with her concern that he had seated authority to Russian president. Vladimir Putin after the two leaders leaders met in Helsinki in two thousand eighteen and with her objection to what she called. Trump's moral equivalents in response to a deadly White House white supremacists rather March Charleville the year before so. She's being protective of him. She won't get line to say that she's she's all in on trumpism but that she's he's calling out the things that almost everybody saw as you gotta be kidding me moment. I feel like I'm going to have a little bit of the defender of Nikki. Haley position here at the table bowl. which is I think I do appreciate that? The first year of the trump presidency. You can just like what it is that he was doing. He was new to this job right and he had a lot lot of people who are telling him what he thought and that was the first year of the trump presidency. You had in various books as ray mentioned Gary Cohn who took some tariff order off the president's desk in threw it away I mean you could never imagine another presidency someone taking away directives that the president was GONNA sign. They treated him as if he was not the president of the United I stay at speak to and then the next question is why well and they see that we didn't see I mean. Look there's a lot to be critiqued under this. The presidency and I certainly am not going to defend a lot of the things that he's done. I'm a far more traditional but in defense of the President I think he got rid of a lot of people because he wanted to be the president of the United States and there were so many people that were not listening to him he was duly elected and so I have some sympathy for him in that perspective now. What are Nikki Hilly's motivations? I think we've covered that here but but I guess on that we're going to have to take a break but it's kind of remarkable how she more than I. I think anybody else who worked for him and has left has walked that delegate almost visible line of supporting him and criticizing him in a in a gentle enough way that she maintains

White House subpoenaed as part of impeachment inquiry
"The breaking news President President Trump's White House subpoenaed house Democrats issuing a subpoena to the White House moments ago. This is part of the impeachment inquiry they say they are left with no choice after after the White House refused to hand over documents related to trump and Ukraine this congress this hour has obtained new documents in the whistleblower complaint against President trump the intelligence community inspector general deemed that whistleblower complaint both urgent and credible today spent nearly seven hours behind closed doors on Capitol Hill sources tells CNN that he gave documents showing how he worked to cooperate in whistleblower complaint which of course alleges Chom tied to get Ukraine to dig up dirt on Joe Biden while he held up military aid to the country now. The story is moving very quickly at this hour of course the big question now will trump order his team to defy a subpoena because tonight the the president himself is defiant saying that all of this had nothing to do with Joe Biden. I don't care about Biden's campaign. What I do sure about corruption campaign? That's up to him all the success up to them. I don't care about politics what we know. He does care about Biden a lot plot and goodness knows he cares about politics. I mean first Biden right trump mentioned him by name in his phone call with Ukrainian President Multiple Times specifically asking the Ukrainian president in to investigate him. Even though there's nothing to show Joe Biden did anything wrong in fact president trump's own former envelope to Ukraine told Congress in his newly released opening statement went and I quote we just got this today. It's important to hear I've known former Vice President Biden for twenty four years and the suggestion that he would be influenced in his duties as vice president by the money for his son simply has no credibility to me. I know him as a man of integrity and dedication to our country. Well look we know trump cares about Joe Biden and one of the reasons we know is that he singled him out for insults all the time. I'd rather run against. I think Biden that anybody I think he's the weakest Mentally Joe Biden is truly lost. Joe Biden is not playing with a full deck and the you look at a guy like sleepy Joe in writing brings them up all the time he cares about Joe Biden and he cares about politics. I mean nobody nobody cares about polls and and who is up and who is down more than he trump loves pulse got great poll numbers our polls numbers of through the roof every poll that I see every poll that we have. I'm winning by doing well. Okay trump's polls explain his obsession with Joe Biden. The most recent head to head matchup puts a Fox News poll won the president would listen to Joe Biden fifty two trump thirty eight. ABC News Biden fifty-five trump forty Quinnipiac Biden fifty four trump thirty eight biden currently trouncing trump the polls trump doors and that is why trump care so deeply about taking by down Kaitlan Collins is out front of the White House tonight and Caitlyn. Obviously this subpoena very significant any response from the White House. Obviously the subpoena came just moments ago. Have you heard anything yet. No they haven't gone back to us yet Aaron. We've reached shout for comment and they haven't said anything of course as you noted. That just came out a short time ago but we should note the White House was expecting this Democrats signaled as much just a few days ago so essentially saying that they were sending a warning shot to the White House that they weren't messing around in this impeachment inquiry that they've been pursuing but people back here at the White House have a very different view of that they essentially have been arguing that not only are they going to keep their distance and their they've been pretty dismissive of these requests so far but they say that's because Democrats didn't vote up to hold this formal impeachment. Inquiry Democrats said they don't need to pursue this impeachment inquiry that they're moving forward forward with that Nancy Pelosi nails last week but that is not the view. We're here at the White House and that's why right now. We've been these discussions with the White House about this draft of this letter that they're expected to send early next week right. Now is the time we're hearing though that that's still unclear basically this letter that's going to dare the House Speaker to bring a vote to the House floor to have her caucus vote on an MP on essentially it formally and officially doing this impeachment inquiry. The White House says they're not going to cooperate essentially until they get that right now. They're still waiting on
'Quid Pro Quo': People Are Searching for 'Something' as Trump Faces Impeachment Threat
"To this special edition of the lead White House in crisis. I'm Jake Tapper and we begin today with a historic day. In Washington where norms are being eroded and facts facts trampled upon president trump today telling the American people in essence ignore all the evidence you have been presented with including his own words those of his aides when it comes to the president's clear use of his presidency to push foreign leaders to investigate his political opponent Joe Biden and his son hunter last night further evidence emerged that such an investigation was part of a quid pro quo with Ukrainian President Alinsky the President's AIDS in texts clearly eerily pushing Alinsky to publicly commit to an investigation into Burris MMA the gas firm that wants employed Hunter Biden before the president would agree to a White House visit for his Alinsky one. That's Alinsky desperately wanted. You know when this came out. It was pro quo while the was done. There's no quid pro quo. There's no quid pro quo. There is no bro well repeating the denial of a quid pro quo which is something exchanged with the expectation of receiving something in return repeating. It doesn't make it any truer especially after the first witness in the Ukraine scandal handed over stunning text message exchanges to Congress in which a top diplomat in Ukraine wrote quote as I said said on the phone I think it's crazy to withhold security assistance for help with a political campaign unquote president trump today continued to deny hi that it's inappropriate for a president to push for dirt on political opponents. He called it an obligation to look into corruption but when asked today by a reporter if he could name name one other time one other time that he pushed for an investigation into alleged door invented corruption not of a political opponent well president trump said did this would have we would have to look the president says George Orwell once throat in one thousand nine hundred quote. The party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final most essential command unquote a philosophy that that is the apparent White House strategy for the scandal or as president trump wants. Just remember what you're seeing in. What you're you're reading is not what's happening. Actually it is and today the first crack in the Republican Venire Solidarity Party with President Trump Republican Senator Mitt Romney of Utah saying quote the President's brazen and unprecedented appeal to China and to Ukraine to investigate Joe Biden is wrong and appalling unquote. CNN's Kaitlan Collins is at the White House and Caitlyn. There's also now a Republican senator who is saying that he heard heard of this quid pro quo and confronted president trump about it yeah. Republican Senator Ron Johnson telling the Wall Street Journal that the US ambassador to to the European Union told him that the status of that military aid for Ukraine was tied to those investigations that the president wanted to see the country carry out now that's significant for two reasons one because that ambassador to the EU told another top US diplomat and Ukraine that there was no quid pro quo that there was no correlation in that essentially what he thought was happening was not happening. It's also significant because Ron Johnson tells the Wall Street Journal that he confronted President Trump over this who says adamantly denied that the two were linked something we saw the president do repeatedly in front of reporters today when and I speak to you a foreign leader I seek in an appropriate manner president trump's stuck with that line of defense today as he was forced to defend calling on another foreign leader to to investigate his political rival something he claims has nothing to do with the upcoming election. I don't care about five campaign. What I do care hear about corruption after suggesting China should look into Joe Biden trump denied linking it to a potential trade deal. One thing has nothing to do with the other making. I'm back claim even though he mentioned trade right before saying this Thursday China started investigation into the by trump hasn't personally asked China's president to launch an investigation he says but sources tell C. N. N. During a summer phone call that he not only promised President Xi Jinping he remained quiet on pro democracy protests in Hong Kong. He also raised Biden Elizabeth Warren which he says he doesn't remember number. was that in twenty seventeen. I don't know you'd have to tell me when one question trump didn't answer today whether he'd ask other countries to investigate someone who's not his political opponent but he did confirm he'll dare house speaker Nancy Pelosi to hold a formal vote on on an impeachment inquiry before the White House will cooperate well. We'll be issuing. Let the White House Democrats don't have the authority to demand documents without without one the Democrats say otherwise these people are looking for anything they can get the Ukraine scandals overshadowing the September. The jobs report which showed the unemployment rate fell to three point five percent the best numbers. We've had over fifty years now. Jake some the ministry officials want to only focus on that September jobs report but it's getting harder and harder to see how they'll do that now that house Democrats just in the last hour have now requested Democrats a crowd or excuse me documents related to Ukraine from the vice president's office as well of course he traveled to Poland last month instead of the president going where he met whether Ukrainian leader though it's unclear jake how the vice president's office is going to respond to that request all right and he pushed Zilenski on the corruption issue. It's unclear if he said anything about the Biden's or any of the other investigations that the president wants Kaitlan Collins. Thank you so much president trump let's bring in in my my panel right now my experts president trump says he's only focused on corruption not investigations of his rivals but then he wasn't able to answer this question from even Jabar's about what other individuals he's pushed foreign when it comes to corruption investigation listen corrupted investigation that don't involve other cases. I have to Let me start with you. Surely the White House must have known that eventually president trump would be asked about this corruption so important you know. Where are you on on
Mike Pompeo accuses Democrats of trying to 'bully' State officials into interviews
"We're following breaking news in the impeachment. Investigation sources tell C. N. N. that the trump administration's former on void to Ukraine still plans to be questioned by members of Congress on Thursday this this despite secretary of State Mike Pompeo's efforts to stall any immediate testimony by State Department officials about the Ukraine scandal tonight on Peyot and top House House Democrats are accusing each other trying to intimidate witnesses with the Democrats warning that pompey's actions may be used as evidence of obstruction. I'll be getting reaction reaction from a Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee Congressman. Steve Cohen and our correspondents and analysts are also standing by. Let's go to the White House I and C. N. N. In White House correspondent Kaitlan Collins Caitlyn Secretary Pompeo is facing growing pressure and also scrutiny as this probe intensifies yeah and essentially Briana what he's he's arguing in. This letter is that Democrats rush these requests to sit down with these officials buck. One former official doesn't seem to think it's happening too soon. That's because Kurt folk or who was the former special envoy to Ukraine who resigned last week after he got caught up in the middle of the scandal has agreed to continue to sit down with Democrats on Thursday for his deposition but now the question is going to be how much he'll say and whether or not the State Department will try to limit it to disgrace tonight secretary of State Mike Pompeo is following president trump's lead accusing Democrats with questions about Ukraine of trying to intimidate him bully state eight department officials into giving rush depositions the secretary of state writing in a letter. I will not tolerate such tactics. The three democratic chairs fired back quickly saying pompeo should immediately sees intimidating department witnesses in order to protect himself and the President Secretary Secretary Pompeo's actions also coming under scrutiny from someone who once held his job secretary of State's job is to make sure that he knows house number one what the president's GonNa say on those calls. TNN has confirmed pumping was listening in when trump pressured Ukrainian President Dolinsky to investigate investigate the Biden's even though he seems surprised by a question about those conversations just days ago so you just gave me a report talk about a campaign none of which I've seen as trump maintains. His call was perfect. The Ukrainian president is distancing getting himself from the man at the center of it all. I've never met earl- digit never as the impeachment angry heats up. Trump is keeping his focus on the whistle blower insisting he's entitled to interview the person who started the investigation. The president is questioning the identity of the whistle blower as his allies allies are questioning their motives what's going on here. Why did they change the rules about whistleblower. you can use hearsay when you use could not just weeks before the complaint he had no first-hand knowledge. He is giving them hearsay evidence but none of what they said is true. According to trump's own intelligence community inspector general who in a rare pushback said the official had some firsthand knowledge and none of the rules to be a whistle blower have changed Republican Senator Chuck Grassley Asleep chairs the whistleblower protection caucus and he broke with trump today when he said the official to be heard and protected one official all still in the president's corner is Attorney General Bill Barr who in recent months has pressed multiple foreign leaders for help as he investigates the origins of the Russia Chen Bussey Gatien following trump orders from May and I hope he looks at the UK and I hope he looks at Australia and I hope he looks at Ukraine rain. I hope he looks at everything now Brianna right now. The Secretary of State is travelling overseas where the reporters with him have asked him questions about his role in this scandal so far has an answer those questions we're going to be waiting to see what he says and whether or not these other officials follow suit with the former official who is still going to sit down with those. Democrats Kaitlan Collins at the White House thank you and let's get more now on this battle between the State Department and impeachment investigators on the hill we have. CNN Congressional national correspondent Sunlen Serfaty joining us and Sunlen despite what we heard today from Secretary Pump Congress could still hear from key players outlined in this complaint. That's right Brianna despite fight all this the person is former special envoy to the Ukraine Kurt Volker. He says he will still appear on Capitol Hill on Thursday and that's according to an aid read telling CNN tonight testimony likely behind closed doors on Thursday and Bulker of course is no longer a State Department employee after he abruptly resigned last week after being named in the whistle blow report the whistle blower alleging that bulker had involvement in the conversations with the Ukrainian president resident how about navigate the demands that complaint says that President Trump made of the Ukrainian president and he was one of the five people that the Committees Committee's had wanted to talk to you wanted to get depositions from over the course of this two week recess now meantime the testimony of former. US Ambassador Ukraine which had had been scheduled for tomorrow up here on Capitol Hill that delayed at least a week likely push until Friday of next week Brianna these voices potentially significant and the Democrats impeachment pro and some we just heard a Republican Senator Chuck Grassley is breaking with the president saying the whistle blower deserves to be heard. What else is he saying. He Yeah Grassley voices such a key. Republican up here on Capitol Hill and this is certainly a big rebuke significant that he is essentially breaking with President trump and almost most calling him out directly saying that the whistle blower should be heard and protected grassley out with a statement this afternoon saying in part quote. No one should be making judgment or pronouncements without hearing from the whistle blower I and carefully following the facts uninformed speculation wielded by politicians or media commentators. Here's as a partisan weapon is counterproductive and doesn't serve the country. Grassley is the chambers senior most Republicans someone who has worked on whistle blower protection laws for years so certainly significant words in stinging words absolutely directed and President Trump's drug addiction tight even though he does not name president trump by name in a statement brands definitely clear as you say Sunlen. Thank
Trump fires John Bolton as national security adviser
"We start with breaking news in the politics and president trump today firing his national security adviser Ambassador John Bolton the too long well documented history of disagreeing disagreeing on matters all the way up to today when the two had different takes on how Bolton ended up on the wrong side of the White House fence the president tweeting in part quote. I informed John Bolton last night that his services are no longer needed at the White House. I disagreed strongly with many of his suggestions. According to John Bolton's tweet which came just twelve minutes later quote. I offered to resign last night in president trump said. Let's talk about it tomorrow. The news came just before a White House. Briefing that Bolton was was scheduled to attend secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin who both reportedly clashed with Bolton behind the scenes. Were notably all smiles at this briefing everything a source close to the administration tells me that Bolton's exit is the result of quote Ed Administration with dysfunctional processes and bureaucracy one that attracts people who we're willing to make the big compromise to work for trump so they are especially cutthroat. It's a real snake pit and it's run by quote in Iraq. President who is hard to manage anew brings out the worst sensibilities people add it all up in the source says quote John Bolton standing for principals such as it's a bad idea to invite the Taliban to Camp David Well. Oh he didn't have a chance. CNN's Kaitlan Collins starts off now from the White House John Bolton the firing in came via twitter as president trump announced today he informed his National Security Advisor. His services are no longer needed at the White House but but in a surreal moment twelve minutes later Bolan denied he was fired tweeting. I offered to resign last night and president trump said let's talk walk tomorrow. Bolton was seen by CNN cameras outside the West Wing this morning after sources said he got into a bitter disagreement with trump the the night before the alternative was the White House and you wouldn't have been happy with that either. They argued over the president's decision to host Taliban leaders at Camp David a a meeting trump later cancelled John Bolton's priorities and policies just don't line up with presidents bulletins pushback inviting the Taliban on US soil and allegedly tiddly telling reporters about his feelings after may have been the last straw with one source telling CNN the leaking is what got him but in recent weeks Bolton had found himself isolated from the president iced out by the chief of staff and barely speaking to the secretary of State there were many times ambassador Assar Bolton. I disagree that's to be sure. Bolton was scheduled to be at this afternoon's briefing alongside Mike Pompeo and Steven Mnuchin the president's view of the Iraq war and and embassador bulletins was very different but after the president's tweet a White House official said Bolt is no longer in the building. I like conflict. I like having two people with the different points of view trump once claimed he liked the chaos of a west wing with multiple opinions but he grew irritated by Bolton's hardline positions in recent weeks. I actually temper John which is pretty amazing now. Jacob President says he's going to announce his fourth national security adviser next week until then Bolton's is deputy. Charlie Kupperman will takeover the National Security Council but I do want to flag one other bit of reporting we got that may have shown that Bolton was on the way out apparently currently when they were at the g seven summit in France just a few weeks ago he was tentatively scheduled to build some of the Sunday shows defending the administration's policies but sources tell C. in the bulletin was uncomfortable and didn't want to go on to defend some of the president's policies including on Russia which had become a big topic of the summit though people close to and said he simply thought that people like Steven Mnuchin or Larry cudlow were better suited at defending the president's policies on tariffs but jake of course requirement of working in this White House as you've got to be able to defend the president on television even the president's post to have Russia back in the g seven Kaitlan Collins. Thanks so much joining me now is Senator Bob Menendez a Democrat from New Jersey. He's the ranking Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee senator. Thanks for joining us your reaction to John Bolton being fired. Look the Unser Mona's way that Bolton was fired at stupid this functionality the whiplash that goes on in terms of you know national security and foreign policy look at the record this is going to be the upcoming the fourth national security advisor the Third Secretary of defense the Secretary Second Secretary of state the Second Second Director of National Intelligence and the list goes on and so the situation room shouldn't be the place in which the president plays his this reality TV show of the apprentice so it's it's very hard for our foreign policy and national security both with our allies as well as sending messages to our adversaries by the dysfunctionality that the president has in the White House. I'm no fan of John Bolton. He's very bellicose in some of his views but you need a national security advisor who's was willing to give you alternative views and other realities and not just yes men in in such a critical position. Well I want to ask you about Bolton specifically because one of your colleagues league's Republican senator who declined to be named told CNN that Republican senators quote clone to people like Bolton on Capitol Hill relying on him to know what's really going on at the White House seeing him I suppose as a non-sycophantic grown up one of the proverbial guardrails what do you think well clearly although I don't agree with many of embassador Bolton's views and he has a bit of a bellicose way about him in terms of foreign policy and national security but he was a voice that would give alternative realities or real realities to the president for his consideration and I know that in many choices for example like the precipitous move in Syria which would have left those who fought alongside with us in in the Lurch that voices like his were also you know surrounded by members of the Senate who who felt this was a disaster astor in the making so I think there are those particularly on the Republican side who felt that he was some sort of stability in terms of foreign policy there are many on my side of the aisle who thinks that that accurately you know he was a bit of a warmonger but what this says Moore I think it's less about Bolton and more about the president the president has no stability in in terms of national security and foreign policy just cut his legs from his Afghan. you know envoy his. Middle East peace envoy just laughed. He's got nobody with Kim. I'm John Own to deal with it so it's it's a disaster at a time that we have to one of the most challenging foreign policy scenarios in the world that I've seen in nearly thirty years. I know you disagree with Bolton on on a lot but there are areas where I imagine you you do have some agreement. A Bolton was skeptical of the President Meeting with Kim Jong Hoon skeptical of the president's offer to have a no strings attached meeting with the Iranian President Ruhani. He was against the Taliban being invited to Camp David. I wonder what this might mean for the administration going forward when it comes to policy and when it comes to people in the president's inner circle who are willing to say you know what Mr President. That's a bad idea I think those people are few and far between if there are any left in this administration. I think the only way you survive in this administration is by I saying yes Mr President even if you believe it's a horrible idea including for the national security and interest of the United States in its people and so that's one of the challenges of this administration administration the reality is is that this is why I believe that Congress under its Article One role is more more important than ever before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee the House Foreign Relations Committee the intelligence committees the Armed Services Committee need to have a robust oh bus vigilant row using their article one authorities to try to pursue a foreign policy that the administration ultimately will will limit the risks that they pose in terms of US foreign policy and national security interests oil prices fell almost immediately after trump tweeted about Bolton Why do you think that is. What are the ramifications might this well? I think that those who believe that Ambassador Bolton who was an advocate of for example example the potential of an attack on Iran because of its nuclear program and the instability that that would create in the region maybe be those of us that now there's less of a bellicose view as it relates to Iran and the region you know I would assume that that's speculation on their airport and that's why some of the prices fell all right Democratic Senator Bob Menendez of the Garden State New Jersey. Thanks so much appreciate it. Sir Thank
Ex-Trump campaign chief Lewandowski says 'happy' to testify before Congress
"Or not to move for with formal impeachment proceedings particularly the jews zhiqiang chairman has already said they're in a formal impeachment proceeding the question now is will they actually vote on articles of impeachment and they view the democrats do liu doused. He's one of the witnesses who could help build their case towards an actual articles of impeachment. The question ultimately is how much you tell this committee. He has appeared before a separate committee. The house intelligence committee last year in that session. Democrats tried to ask them a number of questions about what happened during the white house he down serving the white house but communications that he had with the president but he refused to answer those questions even cursing repeatedly. I'm told at those democrats will he fight and be feisty before democrats in this committee. He indicated today. He's willing to fight. I look forward to my opportunity to sit in front of his committee and believe me. I'm though flowering violet. He wants to attack me which he's already done. I am a guys that are fight back and i look forward to that opportunity. I'm happy to come <hes> right because i want to explain that there was no collusion wasn't obstruction now wolf according to endow sqi is considering a run for the senate to presumably he could use this as an effort to propel his campaign. Potentially he appeared with the president and his rally yesterday. The president made very clear he'd like him to run for in the new hampshire senate race even though number republicans are concerned about his potential candidacy so we could see a lot of theatrics. Come this hearing and mid september. The question is ultimately. What will be gained. What will the public learn. That's a big question could be rather lively. <hes> what does he know about possible obstruction or he is referenced several times throughout the report is part of that investigation into instruction of justice. There was efforts about allegedly the president underwent to try to undercut the muller probe trying to thwart it according to what the report says that the president told corey lewandowski that he wanted loon down to reach out to jeff sessions the attorney general to try to limit the scope of the muller probe to exclude exclude the president's campaign said focus on future investigations now lewin dansk tried to set up this meeting it did not occur the president then follow it up with lindau ski blue in taos ski then turn to rick dearborn who was then a former white house official bene- former chief of staff to jeff sessions said why don't you go to jeff sessions trying setup this meeting. He delivered a message typed out. Delivering the president's words. Dearborn apparently did not set up this meeting but the same committee the house. She wants to hear from rick dearborn as well. They issued a subpoena for both him and lewin douse get to appear at that hearing in mid september so we'll see if he decides to talk about those episode episode because in the past as i said earlier his not wanna do that. Who's your unlike loon. Dusky dearborn actually worked in the white house. The white house might have a better case for executive privilege on that front. Thanks very much for that report. Let's bring in our white house correspondent kaitlan collins. She's with the president in new jersey caitlyn any white house reaction so far to the the prospect of corey lewandowski testify well wolf. It seems to be a sign. The white house thinks that strategy we first reported on yesterday could be successful. Spur one where officials are weighing using executive privilege to stop corey lewandowski from having to answer questions about conversations like the ones that mani was just laying out conversations about the special counsel's investigation. Even though democrats have said absolutely not that's not something that can apply to corey lewandowski because he never worked in the administration something we should note executive privilege experts that i spoke to agree with white house. The White House isn't ruling out another shutdown
"Who say the shutdown. She'd be taken off the tip. I'm not going to get into the hypotheticals of taking that off the table. Okay. So that's not down as is on the table. The president thinks the odds of no deal are are high higher than the odds of a deal. And it came on the day, we found out that it is costing nited states three billion dollars for the shutdown. That's according to the CBO and only twenty percent of Americans actually support shutting down the government again that is a bipartisan and overwhelmingly resounding statement people don't want it Kaitlan Collins out front of the White House tonight and Caitlyn that is the big question. The president dangling out there again. Right. Are we headed for another shutdown? Yeah. And that's really the question here. But what it's going to come down to Aaron his largely two things one. Whether or not those congressional negotiators can find a deal, not just finding a deal, but also one that could pass both chambers of congress and get the president's signature now as you noted in that Wall Street interview, Wall Street Journal interview, he expressed doubt that they could come to a deal, but the president isn't the only one who skeptical here because both sides have drawn these red lines not only the president saying he dealt take anything less. Than five point seven billion. But also with the house speaker Nancy Pelosi being on camera calling the wall and immorality now. The one bright spot that White House. Aides have looked at lately who's on this committee. That's trying to find a deal, and it's none of the hardliners mostly you see these appropriators here who are used to finding a compromise. And have said they would like to do. So for this. Now, if they don't Richard deal, and they don't reach one that either Nancy Pelosi lights or the president likes. Then the president has said that his top choice essentially here is to invoke a national emergency therefore bypassing congress to fund his border will. So that's the question here. One thing we did learn today. Erin is that the president will get the chance to make the argument for his border wall during that televised prime-time address during the state of the union, which is going to be one week after it was initially scheduled to happen. All right Caitlin. Thank you. Out front tonight democratic congressman Roque Khanna. He's a member of the house oversight committee. And I appreciate your time. Congressman look the president is putting the odds at less than fifty fifty that the bipartisan group of congressional negotiators will get a deal before there's another shutdown. So so he he has the odds for a shutdown where do you put them? Very discouraging. I think we can get a deal done. The Democrats are willing to fund border security. We're willing to fund smart border security, even give more than five point seven billion dollars. We would give ten billion dollars, but we're not going to get money for the fifteenth century idea for wall. And I think the president if he can move beyond his campaign promises could easily get a reasonable deal. So I in the interview of the Wall Street Journal, the president said he would not rule out another shutdown. Right. His quote, certainly an option. That's what he used to describe another shutdown. Now, look we we know from the most recent polls Americans overwhelmingly don't want that outcome. According to Monmouth, right? That is a bipartisan take from people in across the country. Do you believe the president will go ahead with another shutdown? Does he think that that's a real alternative? I don't for two reasons one. The polling showed that it was unpopular for him. But more importantly, his own economic advisor said that it was costing the country point one three percent of GDP every week. The president knows that he's nowhere. If this economy falls into recession or tanks. I just don't think he's going to take that kind of risk again. So when you talk about being willing to give something for border security, but not a wall at this is this is what it all comes down. To sometimes words are not just words. Sarah Sanders today was asked about it. She said that you all Democrats need to give something here. She is. They don't come back with the deal. That means Democrats get virtually nothing that will make the president and force him to have to take executive action. That does not give Democrats the things that they want. Will you vote for deal, congressman content? That includes some wall, I will not. And I think the president is miscalculating his odds on executive action. Let me Senator Rubio Senator blunt have said that they would not support the president in declaring a national emergency. And as you know, we could invoke section five of the national emergency act and the congress capacity joint resolution to overturn it. Now, it would require veto proof majority. But the question is whether Senator Rubio and blunt and others would stick to what they said they would do. Well, of course, Senator Graham has already said he supports a national emergency. I mean, I guess I guess the reality of it is are you willing to take one? Well, I would vote to overturn it. And I think it's clearly unconstitutional. I mean Harry Truman when he declared a national emergency to nationalize steel for the Korean war the court so that that was unconstitutional. So certainly this is not going to be a constitutional exercise of the president's power. But here's the point. We're all for reasonable border security in the president. If he just gets passed the wall, and if you'd thinks about what's commonsense can get a deal. I mean, people say well road, you have you have security in your own house. But I don't build a wall around my house. I have an alarm system, I represent Silicon Valley technology solutions that are effective. And my hope is the president will see that. Now, of course, the president points at communities, you know, whether it's a layer San Francisco anywhere across this country and says, well, they have walls to and in fact when he gave in here, right? No other word for it. Right. He caved and the government reopened, and he didn't get any money for his wall. At that time. He was slammed by his. Base for doing that. Here are a couple of people. He promised something for eighteen months. And he lied about it. She has just whipped the president of the United States. He just reversed himself. That's a victory for Nancy Pelosi. Okay. When he hears that from people that he cares deeply about. He cares. What they think about him. He cares that they reflect what he thinks his base wants, do you think that will make him dig in even more? He doesn't wanna look like a loser. Unfortunately, they're calling the shots. And this is the base that he thinks got him elected. But leadership is about convincing your base to do something that makes sense for the country. The president of everyone knows has a lot of loyalty from his base his poll numbers are through the roof still with that forty percent of the country that voted for him. I think if he turned to them and said, look, I'm going to getting border security. We're getting funding for smart border security, and it doesn't have to be about a fifteenth century. Well, I actually think the vast majority of his base would stay with him. So I think he is over relying on the end Coulter's and isn't doing what would. The vast majority of the country wants all right? Well, thank you very much. I appreciate your time tonight. Thank you for having me on and next is the president trying to bait.
