"We went to lake. God splits called opa. Which is over more towards like honolulu and they use like natural flavors and stuff. It was equally as got anyways. I have gone superlong on talking about Eating on trip of hawaii. I'm going to link in the show notes. The video from that day that whole day we went to the wasp beach and all that stuff the missing the turtle. You gotta see this food. Yes i it's just like so incredible. Go watch it brad. What have you been eating I tried this. New iteration of rice krispies treats. They've been branded. As home style rice krispies treats they came out in a regular version and a chocolate version and basically what makes them home style. Is that the recipe for the the marshmallow. Buttery goofiness that holds them. Together is a little bit I guess more prominent. I winsor this a thicker. But there's just more of it and they're also chunks of chunks of marsh little marshmallows that are actually in the mixture as well and so the The regular ones are obviously the best. I still like the tropical ones. But they're not quite as flavorful As far as the you know the marshmallow as the regular rescuers patriots but They are superior to the the regular rice crispy treats so i think he should be able to find those in any grocery store there Both rations very good and then Earlier this year buffalo wild wings introduced Four new sauces. And i tried two of them. my girlfriend and i had tried the lemon pepper sauce and the new pizza sauce. The lemon pepper sauce isn't one of their spicy iterations at all. It's one of their mild ones is It's pretty basic rotisserie. Chicken kind of sauce recipe. That's just a little a lemon and pepper and it's it's buttery But it's It's pretty flavorful. The pizza sauce. One was a little disappointing. Not because it tasted bad. But because it's primarily there parmesan garlic sauce. But they dusted with Tomato powder and basil. And i don't know if they just didn't put enough of that mixture onto the garlic parmesan lanes themselves. But it still tasted mostly like just a garlic parmesan wing with just a hint of that tomato flavor so it was fine but i wonder if there's a better mixture that they can come up with to make it taste a little bit more like what a you know. A pizza wing sauce might taste like i also tried a fireball. Eggnog which Really it's just it's mostly a branding thing fireball. As i'm sure you know pretty much. Everyone knows is cinnamon whisky. And this is an alcoholic eggnog. It's just flavored with cinnamon. And it's branded as fireball. Were i know but it's still very good because it's eggnog with cinnamon but what you can do and what i is i actually put real fireball in it. And so the doubling of the cinnamon in the eggnog itself and the edition of the fireball whiskey. is really really good. It's my when i was old enough to drink One of my mom made made around the holidays. And i started drinking was Eggnog with cinnamon schnapps in it. Which is roughly the same thing. But as schnapps is not necessarily a strong alcohol so the the flavor isn't necessarily feel like it's an alcoholic drink even though it is And the fireball. Whisky definitely adds more of a kick to it. And it still tastes. Really good. doesn't even taste much like a a strong cocktail so it's very good and speaking of alcohol. It has an incredible flavor and is strong. I tried through-ball peanut butter whiskey. Which sounds disgusting and i thought such even me. I'll try i. I had heard that it was good by kept being like no. Why would you ever drink this. What what would you. What would you do with it. And dad got over the holidays. I tried it and This is so good it doesn't even taste Like alcohol and it's it seems kind of weird because you feel like you're drinking peanut butter but it doesn't feel gross. It's just a good flavor. And i've been told i haven't done this yet but i would like to. I need to get a bottle of my own that it's really good to put in things like hot chocolate to make a a chocolate peanut butter hot chocolate and so i definitely want to try it but i taught me surprised that a peanut butter whiskey was actually delicious. And then there is a A new mountain dew just came out. This is apparently a new permanent flavor that it will be available everywhere has regular version and is your sugar version and it's called a major melon and it's mountain dew. That is quote charged with watermelon. And i've talked about before how water the water artificial watermelon flavor is one of my favorite flavors as far as like candies or icees. Gumy's and whatnot is concerned. And so when. I heard this was coming. I was super pumps because a long time ago i wanna say like when i was in college or something mountain dew one of their a democracy things were they introduced like the flavors and then everyone voted which one would become. The permanent one and one of them had a watermelon flavor. And i want to say watermelon barrier something like that and he was my favorite of the three and it just barely missed out on becoming a permanent flavor to voltage eight so the fact that they brought this out and that it's just watermelon at is great. I love it it's It's not quite as like sugary sweet. As there was a There's been some jolly ranchers so that has come out and other watermelon flavored soft drinks. And usually they are Quite sweet to the point where you don't really want a lot of them because this one is like a watermelon flavor. That's mixed with mountain. The mountain dew. Formula it's not quite as overpowering And it's It's really good. It's easily one of my new favorite mountain decent. So i'm glad that it's a permanent addition to their lineup. I'm interested to try that. I'm also interested. Try those home style. Race crispy treats. Yeah where can you should be any grocery store..

"Maybe i can just skip it. And i actually covered for an episode of the new movies podcasts. My podcast which has been doing this miniseries of the third entries into certain franchises and we recorded an episode about this movie. This morning and that episode will be up tomorrow. Wants to listen to me. Go in-depth on that you can listen to end. Subscribe in check that out if you want to But just briefly. I kinda liked this movie a lot. I was surprised with how much i liked it. Considering what i thought Reputation was going in There's a lot of similarities to steven spielberg's hook which which i've found to be strange. I mean this movie came out in nineteen eighty five and hook came out in ninety one so i just wonder how much spielberg was influenced by this at all or or the writers Just because like aesthetically. There's a lot there This movie involves mad. Max sort of coming across this like a tribe of young people and their this a very very lost boys vibe there so Yeah i. I was surprised at how much i enjoy this movie. I mean it's no fury road in terms of the action but there is a really entertaining Sort of all out chase across the desert. That happens in like the last third of the movie that a sort of lays the groundwork for the work to come in fury road so mad. Max me on thunderdome. Pretty good okay. Let's move into what we've been eating something. I was going to talk about last week. But i we pushed to this week because the show last week just went too long is as you know i went to a wa hawaii and i did film a bunch of videos that are on the ordinary adventures The youtube channel. In one of the videos i wanted to plug is our food tour of the north shore. We went to the north shore. Which is like this beautiful like. It seems like less is touristy. But it seems like like people are actually living there and it's a less touristy like waikiki. Beach or something like that In we've basically filmed their whole day. Which was honestly the best day of food. That catcher in i have ever had together It started off with coz. Which is this place. They sell listen called bombers which are basically these breakfast burritos but in inside the breakfast burrito. They have like this like slow roasted pork. I think it's been slower as defrauding twelve hours or something insane and Just amazing We've visited the beach From the first season of lost We went to giovanni shrimp truck. Which you've probably seen a lot of like food network shows like whenever they go to hawaii they feature of this place. It's like this food stand. That sells like this amazing shrimp. And gator says it's the best shrimp she's ever ever had and we also went up north to how i i think is how you pronounce it a small town. They have like this. Bridges called the rainbow bridge. Which is nothing. Like i've seen outdoor feel ripped off and baby. I got a bowl at alibi bowls which was like the best like fruit bowl. I've ever had my wife And we also went to The beach there's like this whole beach on the north shore where the turtles come to rest and they like eat seaweed own. It was one of the most anticipated things of our entire hawaii trip and we went there and we checked out through the through the sand to go to the turtle beach and keturah was in her Flops and we got close. I want to say we were like a couple hundred feet away from where it wasn't. We were standing there in like. I don't see any turtles turn back like my feet hurt as like we should go like we should just keep on going like me. We could see him there in the water or something. It's us just like feeling like trekking through stand is like no no joke. Sometimes in y like i it's like i don't know how people run on the beach. I guess probably ryan when it's like more packed sand but The funny thing about this story is when we got back and editing this video she used the power of the you know the digital zoom in our four k image zubin and saw that there were actually turtles on the beach and that we actually missed out on the turtles that she wanted. See like the huge Sea turtle rent where And we also went to matsue moto shave ice which i'm not sure about you guys awake my whole life. I just thought shaved ice snow cones. Like you know. I grew up like you know going to like like ice cream. Waco trucks and stuff and getting snow cones. And it's like this like little ice pebble stuff. That usually isn't good like they pour like the the flavoring on top of it. And then once you get through the flavoring and just like ice in his like unsatisfying that like real shaved ice shave ice not shaved ice. I got yelled at a billion times. Thirteen shaved ice. It's called shave ice with no d. Is like incredible though. Like the the kind of we gotta matsumoto which they are staple there in a while who i think. They've been there for a long time. It's a family owned business. We had it with ice-cream underneath it and some condensed milk on top and like a rainbow of flavors. And it's like this finely like it really feels like you're eating snow in there's like the flavor is in every bite the had Ben i fight here but i know you've been to. Why am sure you've done some of these tours of like you went to the beach and stuff. Did you shave. Ice i did. I went to that very place. And i think i remember. There's a picture of tom. Hanks on the wall like celebrities and stuff in there. Yeah it was very good. And i growing up in florida had the same exact experience you did in terms of snow cones and thinking that was shave ice and all that and just like having my mind and and palate expanded when i went to matsumoto for the first time now wondering oh i wonder what in I haven't had this particular shave shave ice but There's a korean. Dessert called bing sou- which is very similar. It's like a very flavorful. Lots of the communists at it on and it's a more fine sort of ice. That is I'm guessing that this shave. Ice is is inspired or a takes inspiration from japanese desserts or something. And that's why korean definitely does because it was a japanese immigrants that came to hawaii and i think they actually lake got the idea from japan like something they had in japan. I think i read that. So you're you're correct. Yeah so if you wanna try find something that's similar to that dessert To shave ice in america you can probably find something like a at a korean dessert place than they have being sued there. Yeah now. i'm curious. I'm going to have to go on a search of like in southern california to see if there's anything that's nearly as good because like i think i like it more than like you know ice cream or out how it was just so good we. We went to a bunch of places on our triple later on her trip..

"Yeah. I'm wondering like five ten years. If the borat sequel will feel less relevant probably well. You're probably right I need to see conju. Kajillions jillian air. I like miranda july. Feel like me you. And everyone we know is like her best movie and it's been kind of diminishing returns since then. Yeah i really like me you and everyone. We know the best movies. I've seen of her. So far. kazillionaire is is so interesting. It's so the visual literally striking and would is really great in it I guess i can go into the details of it. Since i'm i'm finishing my fees but jillian air falls a group of a family of con- people who Spend their time trying to get the best deal or value out of things often a whiff ding or stealing at outright stealing and mitchell would plays the daughter of to griffey's who has this is the only life she's ever known and everything about her that she's that she knows what her family is a give and take in not actual affection and her trying to come to terms with like trump come to terms with that and realize that she does indeed want love and affection is a really great It just feels a. It's a movie that feels like it holds arm's length in a way that Kind of kind of loses you halfway through but it's it's a really fascinating movie. I think i think he might enjoy peter. Ben who even watching. I watched the mystery of db cooper which is streaming on. Hbo right now. It is a documentary about db cooper. Who believe in nineteen seventy. One boarded a plane from portland to seattle and held the plane hostage and demanded two hundred thousand dollars and four parachutes and jump out of the plane. Never to beep seen or heard from again. And i think the movie opens saying that. It's like the only Unsolved case of air piracy in american history and just like a pretty cool statistic. I don't know. I'm a little torn on this movie because i love the story and D cooper is like a. He's become sort of a folk hero and there's a lot that has been written about him and said about him and this movie essentially tracks like four x four different people maybe five different people who are convinced that they have figured out the identity of d cooper who i believe that was a An alias that was used and one woman says oh it was my husband. He told me on his deathbed that. I'm i'm this guy and somebody else. There are several different cases and it sort of reminded me a little bit of To thirty seven in that way where the filmmakers relatively dispassionately just present all of these different theories and kind of like. Leave you to draw your own conclusions about what you believe in. If you believe any of these people actually was the real db cooper and what might have happened him in all that stuff. i kind of feel like the film tips. That's hand a little bit towards the one that it thinks that like this this election that they would choose. The filmmakers would choose but it doesn't. It's never over. It could just be near reading into it too much But speaking of reading after we were done with it my wife was. I think i can speak for her and say that she felt like slightly dissatisfied with the the depth that this documentary went into the story so she did a little bit of googling. And we're just sitting on the couch after watching it and she was just regaling me with all these these facts that she discovered about the case. Just like a quick google search. That would have been really interesting to include in this movie or would have helped provide some context or maybe Discredited certain stories are helped build the case for certain people And it it just seemed like you know if we could find this information really easily these the director john. John dower directed. This movie certainly had access to the same information and and you know way more having immersed himself in the world of all of this so it just felt like an odd choice to sort of. Leave out a lot of stuff but chris. I think you've said that. You saw the mr cooper what are you. What did you think about it. I don't remember if you talked about on the podcast. Before i liked it overall i did think kind of i mean i guess it has to end abruptly because there's no real answer but you feel kinda ended abruptly and i feel like there's this montage at the end they're showing like a lot of people and some of them are people who are like not in the movie and it makes me wonder if there's like a longer cut i don't know but overall yeah i would say it's worth watching. But it's not like the deepest dive into the story. I think if anything it will just inspire you to maybe do your own research. But i found it to be mostly entertaining. Watch especially if you don't know any of the details about the case a really good job like yes sort of encapsulating like the actual facts of of what happened there. It actually interviews people who were like the flight attendant who is on the plane with him and that was i hearing the firsthand stories. Was i think the the movies some of the movies best stuff. So that's called. Mystery of d b cooper and then i also watched mad max beyond thunderdome for the first time this is streaming on hbo. Max as well. I'd never seen this one. I'd saw the first few mad. Max movies and then i saw fury road. Obviously but i just skipped the third one. Because i think in my mind was sort of labeled as like the godfather three of the mad max franchise and i was just kinda like oh i guess. This one's like universally not as well respected in..

"Best performance for hugh jackman. I think he plays this Superintendent of a new school district and this is based on a true story whereas discovered that his Staff and the friends and people are all involved in this multi million dollar embezzling thing And there are. It's it's interesting because there are times where this feels like kind of like a a low key mob movie. How some scenes play out. But it's not a movie where these are. These were people who were necessarily actively trying to get rich or scheming just to get rich it was just. It's something that just got out of hand and there's this amazing scene where you really hits it home and you see that really. The point of this movie is this depiction of school system A school system. That is this is something that happens. You know all over the country that is so broken. Where so much pressure put on these people to deliver high rankings. As far as you know they're the education system in Admissions to colleges and just to please parents give them everything they want to that at some point they you you just start doing things even if you the they are immoral and unethical because you're trying to do right by the people that you're supposed to and clearly what happens in bad. Education is something that just got out of hand. And you realize that it's because these people you know they do so much that they're still under appreciated And yeah it's just i. This movie It kind of hits in the same way that movie like a spotlight or all. The president's men does but on a much more. You know Local scale it has a a journalistic angle too. Because they're others a high school student. That is kind of helps on earth. A little bit of what's happening and yeah just just watching the store. Until it's crazy that this was this was even true. And that actually unfolding this way. But in watching the dramatization of it is Very compelling and has a lot of great performances in it so you should watch that on. Hbo max okay. No each has also been playing catch up for the year and has a lot stock. Hd what have you been watching a lot a lot to talk about. So i'm going to go on a lightening around the best as i can achieve a lightning round for my movies I promising young a pitch black rape revenge movie wrapped up in a cotton candy aesthetic. That slowly unveils itself to be a really potent portrait of grief. I kind of wish that went for the Difficult ending but regardless. It made me cry the painter and the faith and nodding complex documentary that deals with the or the apples with the personal demons and the addictions that we share. So these love A really beautiful shot and beautifully felt a melodrama that shoots for douglas sirk but ends up being a little closer to nicholas sparks. Tessa thompson. slagle The best of night real technically impressive movie And i was really impressed with all the long shots at does and what it does on the such. A low budget Really impressive just kind of movie that Research is more restrained and some dude than the kind of scifi film that you would expect a good shirley. I really really loved this movie. Gothic gothic are movie about women on the verge and movie about the monstrous task of writing and How much of a perverse and weird and wonderful thing it is. A loss is just fantastic. Always the best playing women on the edge. And i was really amazed by how much i love. This movie also might be a case of recently biased but it just hits all the marks of the things i love the core women on the verge et cetera. it hits into that The really if you look at the very much of a writer's movie too in a way that it does take a lot of license for jackson's life. I have to confess familiar with chile jackson except for like on a broad strokes level. But i really liked how it evolved into the court in basically turned the task of writing into the monster. And i love that I watched the borat movies for the first time. I never watched the first brought when it came out. Because when it came out every snot nosed middle schooler. Who i knew was quoting it incessantly. And i swore to never wash it ever but i decided to give it a chance because i needed to watch sports subsequent movie film and i heard that. It's actually much more timeline A movie about america's culture than i had you dismiss it as before and it's really funny to see how much sung about the first world. How much of. It's humor has informed the humor of people of people today And it really was went for the shocks in a way that i had to. I was just impressed by an how it kind of tapped into a lot of things that were felt really. Prescient brought subsequent. Move on. Great sequel also equally shocking. But you'll even more politically potent. And i appreciate that Watts sequences were really crazy and I'm happy i was actually able to be in the know about what made the headlines and the last movie i was jillian. The new movie from ranch ally kind of a really oddity. A movie I really. I enjoyed it a lot. But kinda lost me halfway through A dude. I don't can't say i enjoy like the ending of it but it's it's it's so peculiar That it's a movie that only miranda july could make and that's could jillian air which is on the od. So i made it. That's all my movies i did for. I watched over the weekend. H i feel like you an through a list of movies. That is so long in west time than i took the talk about survivor. Do you have anything else to say of these. Various i i feel bad like dislike. Did such era congrats. You did such a job that i think this borat hold up today. Like the original borat. Yeah i think it really does again. It's just it's a movie that the comedy seem so ahead of its time but also would come to define the comedy for the next ten years afterwards in a way that i was really recognizable to me but also i really appreciate as someone who saw like internet humor. Become a huge defining thing and i was like. Wow they really were ahead of their time for it. and yet it's all like shocking shocking and crass but in a way that felt very prescient and i think even more so than borat subsc movie film was subsequently feels very much about like now.

"I think in season four but not talking about a box. I'm still talking about bots peter. I'm stopping right now seriously. I'm sorry jakup okay brad. Watching i watched unprecedent on. Hbo max which is fantastic. Started by rachel lee goldenberg. It is a movie that has a premise that is similar to never rarely sometimes always since it also involves a grill Going on a trip to get an abortion but this is the Much more lighthearted comedic take on it where A young girl. A woman has to basically trust a strange friend who used to be friends when they were younger but fell apart when they were When high school and they embark on this trip so that she can travel out of state to get an abortion since she can't do it in her own state without parental consent and it shares a lot of elements with never rarely sometimes always. But it's obviously funnier but still packed as much heart and the the chemistry between the two stars. It's a haley. Richardson and barbie ferreira. Barbie ferrara especially is man. I want to see her do so. Much more This is like a. It's a performance. It reminded me of like a when jonah hill kind of broke out in super bad And it's a it's a similar kind of performance. Not not quite as obnoxious. Just but she's definitely a very big personality. And i just i loved her character in this. And it's Yeah it's it's one of those kind of a wacky road trip movie but without being too crazy it has just the right amount of Absurd to be funny. But it also treats the subject matter seriously. And i just i i love these characters so much and You know i. I wish that this is a story that allows you spend more time with them. That if there was no time for a series or something like that but Yeah if you guys haven't watched on. Friday i know ben Has been championing this one for a while. And it was in his top ten and it just barely didn't make mine. This never rosen. Has always were both very close together. I feel like they're kind of spiritual Companions and yeah there So you should watch. Both of them. And i'm pregnant apprentice. Probably a little bit more accessible just because it's funnier and that's on hbo. Max you should definitely watch it. And then what else i watched i watched Ma rainey's black bottom so much phrases already been given to chadwick boseman at all i can do is just echo those sentiments Very much because he is astounding in this movie. And it's not just you know praise because you're thinking about wow. This actor is gone if anything you watch this performance in your more upset that chadwick boseman is no longer with us because this performance is just You know not that award you no matter in the grand scheme of things but it is oscar worthy. He has other. there are three scenes. That are still on our list. In consideration our best movie moments two of them are are from bozeman simply just because of how incredible he is As his character in this movie but even even beyond that there's a great movie around him. I was reminded of do the right thing in many ways and even though this is This is based on a nineteen eighty to play by august wilson. And i part of me wonders if do the right thing borrowed some elements from it. Because there's you know they're a very pivotal scene involving the scuffing of a shoe and that. But then i feel like this movie borrowed elements from do the right thing because the sweltering heat Just creates such a tense environment among these these characters in this movie and it has vied very much though that feels inherently tied to Do the right thing and they share a lot of similarities as far as their Elements and how they approach race and that kind of thing and if anything is a you know it's more powerful because it just shows that like the times when marines like bottom takes place which is decades ago to do the right thing you know which took place in the early nineties era Or late late eighties There that you know they're still so much frustration there Among you know the the black people and black culture and so many things are ingrained that just have been so frustrating for them as a whole and you see that come out in this movie. Do the right thing so that's on netflix. And it's It's fantastic. And i watched sound of metal. Been putting off for a while not for no particular reason and i kept hearing great things about it and it definitely lived up to the hype especially Resentment another one of those performances. That's definitely award worthy end. I feel like it dives into The the struggle that people have with deafness in a way though. That doesn't treat it like it's a full-on disability it's Spend time with a deaf community in this movie as this heavy metal drummer play by resume. Ed has suddenly lost most of his hearing. And it's him trying to basically live you know with with deafness and figure things out and learned sign language and whatnot but obviously you know. It's a journey that he takes. It has so many missteps and frustrations and The way it approaches sound both Semantically and ask literally as far as how sounded preventing this movie. Just ingrains you in historic even more and it. It makes his struggle not not literally tangible. Just makes it feel more tangible. Because the way that you hear how he perceives the world. You can't help but think you know what it would be like if if that's exactly how you were left to hear everything that was happening around you and it's It's definitely a a movie is affecting a lot of ways And it's yeah it easily made My my top ten And of me. That was worried. Some movies i saw out whether it was recency bias or not but just the more i thought about you know movie like sound of metal or my black bottom it just resonated so much that the kind of movies just immediately hit you and you feel something inside you. That just tells you like. Wow this is something that is moving and significance. And it's just. This is definitely one of those movies. I also watched The half of it. Which is a netflix teen. Romantic comedy instructed by alice wu. And it's a takes the cyrano de bears iraq Kind of angle. Where this young quirky kind of girl who gets paid to write Kids essays in highschool is hired by this kind of a charmingly fish somewhat dimwitted jock to write. Love letters to the you know the pretty girl in school that he has a crush on. But he's not quite has quite of a full or intellectual personality to be impressive horon his own and so What he doesn't know though is that This girl actually also has a crush on on the same girl and so she starts you know basically living out her like what she would like her romance to be with her at the same time and of course love triangle. Ensues one and it's a very charming movie the performances especially by leo lewis as the lead in this movie are fantastic and shows greats Promises as a filmmaker. But i found myself much the same way that i did with sylvia's love really disappointed in the ending of movies. I won't spoil what happens but it just feels like it all suddenly happens and finishes simply because the movie has to end and not in any way that fits with The story or wraps things up neely. I appreciate what it does with the characters in the end. But the way it comes about feels extremely messy and choppy almost to the point where it feels like there was maybe a good fifteen twenty minutes that was cut out of this movie and there were some dangling things that didn't quite make sense and stuff that was made to be more important or significant that doesn't land as firmly because stuff is missing so By think like with sylvia's love. There's so much eleven the movie. I still think it's it's worth watching and i definitely look forward to What else we can do as a filmmaker because this is a very confident in charming movie that she put.

"It's available on all the regular. Vod services for a couple of bucks point. He's all streamlined criterion channel. It's really terrific. And i don't wanna say more than that because the weight reveals that story is the real treat and stick with it. It's maybe a little slow start but it's taking. Its time for a reason the way it tells the story revealed has its details is quite frankly. Brilliant backout great Also watch tesla. Chris spoke at length. So i won't here on the say that it's thorough rejection of all bio-pic tropes is really refreshing and it does too low budget. It makes me feel good about the bio-pic again because there's no point in trying to do the whole life story approach that's been endlessly mocked at this point whereas tesla really tries to get underneath the story. Wide is some. Why don't we care about this person and present that in a way they feel relevant in modern and very funny with a lot of awesome fantasy sequences that aren't literal and really inform. How you approach these kind of stories more so than a literal take would've been so that's tesla streaming on hulu. Also real quick lucy's about about starting my favorite guilty pleasure show it's just a bunch of nerds building robots and fighting robots and if so joyful to watch because knowing is rich building robots fighting robots throwing its famous building. Robots of what people are building robots to fight on television because they want to build robots. And it's it's just such a simple pure thing and plus has a new spin off shows includes exclusive with them called battle bots bounty hunters. That is just a It was filmed right after the main season. what was was wrapped. And it's just more about a box in different format law. The lesser tier robotic law. The main you know eighty robot your actual contents relationship aren't here a lot of the Really interesting You know middle rung teams battle it out for a cash prize I love metalbox guys. It's just my thing. I love to love survivor. I could go on forever. But i won't watch battle. Bots robots fighting pretty rad. I'm disappointed that battlefronts bounty hunters isn't isn't people with battle bots tracking down criminals. The basic gist. I'll be real fast. They take one famous or top. Tier robot have eight robots who are not as famous atop to. You're having brackets battle. It out to who will face a major robot for cash price coming about hunter which is format of. It's it's really fun as very surprising and difference unlikely human stories instantly on of vickers and i've bought. It's such a pure thing it's just you don't go on about a boston. lets you. Love robots man and that infectious. Joy isn't every moment of this. Damn show i. I love alabama and i'm done number. Albert's for today okay do you. How often do the underdogs actually defeat like the famous grow by both things. Especially for the hunters. There are some big though. See across the brackets and been off. Show i i will say that. There is one robot this year to compete in both bounty hunters and the main Series called mad qatar and its builder to the lead of manatee community college teacher who teaches robotics california community college East of los angeles is entire team. Our students and in past years government had a pretty okay robot that won and lost and mostly like lower to your battles but this series. He came back swinging. He's like destroying big robots in like a wrecking things. And you know he's probably mile community college professor. His on camera persona is like he plays. Wwe villain like click having fun doing it so much fun. Because he's clearly having a great time usually a really smart guy who's built this robot with students is. He's a teacher. And educator who's passionate cameras are on him. He literally goes full. Wb clearly like just relishing or other people are more low key are sort of like you know this quiet little nerd. You're going you know this race saw spoken. They're happy to be here whereas like going for us. He's he's mad cat. My current mvp and the current guy upsetting brackets across all about bosh right now jacob. I think we made a deal in the past like you'd watch survivor. If i watched something and i don't even remember what that something was at this point. I've been listening to change the deal to battle bots bounty hunters versus trillion survivor. Yes by will also say that the to fully appreciate federal hundred. I'd recommend going back to season three about bots to you can see the transformation of the robots. But you'll have to actually meet us trump at anytime stuff on. But yes you know what albatross trillions peter. You drive out abuts either core series or bounty hunters. How how will this season. Three of battle bots. That sounds like it's a long time ago. It's make it on the history of albert's the original run the nineties. What's comedy central or thousands. That's not screaming anywhere. As far as i know the current iteration the first one. Abc and they're not available anywhere legally vitamin illegally. If you want to track them down. The current iteration seasons three through five Which is the current season five are all streaming on discovery. Plus personne amazon. I'm watching him. I bought the episode through amazon already. The season But you have plastic and storrow season three and enjoy just fine and the youtube up. Some old fights if the white people fear tombstone for example. Terrifying robot You can always find that any too but I think part of the fun is like watching. Sports teams robots get better robots get worse the human stories next robots to evolve and the show gets better over years about finding the finals human stories. That doesn't always find them early on early very much. Is robots fighting. Isn't this cool. But especially in season. Four they really started getting cameras behind the scenes and following the teams as they would fix between fights and why did like robots. That's where they started. The show went from being good to great..

"A lot of people on the puck gets knocked. Giving us a chance yet but cobra kai i. It's stupid fun but so enjoyable. It's so much better than it ever has the right to be like. I'm not sure it's not like the best friend stuff but it just like so just so very enjoyable anyways. That's net flex right now and. i think you can watch all three seasons. I'm not sure if credit is on flicks But i would say if you're gonna watch cobra kai season three. You're gonna wanna have seen the karate kid part to I think the first two seasons of cry k. r. cobra kai required just a viewing of the first film but the the season requires part to and maybe future seasons might require part three. So yeah anyways I also what else have. I been watching One of the things Kitchen i have been kind of craving that the that the pandemic kind of has taken away from us is Know the shows though. We watched where it's like. Competition reality shows like The amazing race or survivor in a lot of the shutdown way before the united states shut down Earlier last year because you know they were international productions. And so you know. I think there's an amazing airing right now or just aired that was filmed like two years ago or something insane but survivor. There's not going to be a new survivor for a while and one of my friends chris. Kidder i texted him the other day like he. I was like what are you doing. I'm watching australia survivor. I was like. I didn't even australian survivor existed Apparently australian survivor I think launched you know many a few decades ago They had a couple of season in and then it went off the air but they had season three. It went away for a couple of decades and then season three Just started airing two thousand seventeen. A i think i'm correct. So that's what. I started off with one of the one of the big problems with survivor. I think an even me trying to recommend it on the spot gas is i feel like you can't. It's a hard thing to recommend for newcomers to get into because it's kind of like recommending. Here watch this. You know the two hundredth episode of this one seizing a football. Because i don't want to say it's complicated. It's not complicated. Something anybody could easily get into its network. Tv but it. It's really a competition show. That is kind of it's based off flake. All this canon has come before and how the game has changed and how to play the game and all that kind of i. It's hard to recommend a united states survivor. For people to get into because the first like i wanna say fifteen seasons early filmed in standard definition and are very hard to watch. That are. They're all available on. Cbs all access. And then once you get into the high definition seasons were actually looks modern and is easy to watch it's Kind of like their reoccurring. There's contestants that are coming back. There's like there's literally like vocabulary that they use on the show that like it's never explained you know it. It's from previous seasons. So it's kind of hard to recommend but i think like if i was ever going to recommend someone watch survivor. Today i would say. Start off with season. Three of austrailia survivor. Because this is kind of a new beginning it set in modern times where it has You know a very good production Set and samoa. So it's a different Island location than the recent american seasons of survivor. And it's it's i it scratches survivor. But it's it's interesting how it's the same but different first of all. I think that this this show in america survivor. The the big prize at the end is one million dollars in australia. They don't have that much money so it's half a million dollars. The interesting thing here is the american show. I think the contestants last there on the island for thirty something days in the australian season. They're on the island for like fifty five days. So they're they're there for twice as long for almost twice as many episodes And you know working to earn half as much money which is kind of interesting. But i like seeing how things are different here like in american survivor when it gets to the island. The they're kind of like Presented with They have to go forward to create like they're like tents and stuff like that but like they're not allowed to like cut down trees and stuff so like the survivor Production just like. Weaves a bunch of these bamboo you know in all the stuff around for them actually have to go look for and bring back in this one. It actually feels more robinson crusoe where they're actually cutting down trees and and so It's i feel like it's nicer. The people on this are a little bit nicer and more polite I think because that would recommend this the jacob. I think he might enjoy this more. Americans survivor Sometimes completely different than the challenges and the games that they play like there was this one where each team had a tunnel in. They had like ten minutes installed. These like these big like boards in sticks it sticks and the had rope to tie it in the tunnel and then after the ten minutes. So i basically obstruct the tunnel. Then after ten minutes they had switched tunnels and the other team had to make their way through the blockage that they that they had made in bring actually a chicken coop with him. Which was the prize for the challenge anyways. I'm probably going way too long on australian survivor in people. Probably don't care. But i know i in the past when i've talked about people have all asked me like you know. What is it good season to kind of like an introductory season of survivor. And i think this is. This is now my go-to answer and I don't know there's some very interesting twists and turns and they do some stuff in in this version of survivor. That i feel like i know has never been done in the american survivor and Might even be like gimmicky for tv. But it's it's so enjoyable to watch so that is australian survivor and you can watch that on youtube. The whole season three. I'm not sure if any other around on there but the entire season three is like up there. I think illegally to be watched so there. You go Jake even watching. I'll be brief on my stuff I walked back around with a brazilian Sifi satire horror action drama bonet is unclassifiable and also really really great Near future Dystopia antifascism anti imperialism just as brilliant political blend of.

"But if you've never seen made a gusty made brad. I feel like you are probably one of the people on this podcast that i've seen this movie for sure. Yeah i Watch made answering is You know basically when i was like really digging into a different kinds of movie and we started watching more indie movies and paying attention to lower key filmmakers. Monnaie there was a big part of a lot of Movies that basically got me to becoming more of a sinophile to a casual movie fan you. Have you ever watched it in recent years. I haven't actually in the you talking about has made me wanna go watch backing him. Watch both of them. Yeah it's definitely not as good as swingers but it's i. I looked like the rating like the the critic. Reviews weren't like to positive. I think it was like seventy percent of run tomatoes. Or something. So i i just. I really enjoyed the movie. I highly recommended made her. I recommend if you'd like this. Which made is really good. By the way i liked it. You should also look up. Mikey nikki which is a nineteen seventy six movie from. Elaine may also has peter falk in it and when you watch that. You're going to be like. Oh jon favreau stole all this you nicky. It's clearly not being subtle about it. Because it's like i said they boast are peter fox. Oh i'm sure like he was like this. Why should that. But they're very super movies where it's about these two low level mob guys and one of them is just like a fucking mess and the other one is just always trying to like calm him down and he's like oh he's my best friend and he slowly because realized. This guy is a monster. I need to stop hanging around with him. So i really if you you know. If you're in the mood to see another week made i. I really recommend looking this up. I don't know if it's on it's on to be which is a free streaming service so you can watch it there if you want. I didn't even know to be existed. The look into that Another thing i watched this past week was cobra kai season three. You've heard me in the past on this podcast Sped off about how great cobra kai is. Now it's on netflix. Now i feel like a whole new audiences discovering the series and season three came out on january first I will say this season. Two of of the series kind of ends in a cliffhanger a very surprising shocking cliffhanger that kind of sends the series in a new direction in season. Three the first half season three is kind of trying to deal with the consequences of the the corner of the room that the that the show runners have put these characters and and because of that It kind of feels like like the first half of the season is them digging back. To the kind of the the normal status quo get back to the normal status quo but digging back to kind of getting to the the way we like the show to be in because that i know Fred to powell on our site compared to the west. I and i wanna say it's the last jedi of karate kid spinoff of this of the series but it really is an apt comparison because it is kind of sending our characters in directions that They don't really wanna go. Maybe we don't want to see them go but it they're going to be better off for it and Because i feel like the first half of the season. isn't as good as cobra crisis in one i'd say it's on the level of cobra. Crises in two but the second half of this season guys is amazing. Especially the last two episodes I don't wanna give away. But it really. The last two episodes i think are like serious best and has some twists and turns and some not even like gimmicky twist or anything just like moments like some good moments we get some reunions of characters that we haven't seen together in a way that lake you know co coming twenty twenty. I feel like we've lived through all these like Brad what does that series of Josh gad has been doing on youtube what is that called reunited apart reunited part. And i feel like. I've never i haven't been like very satisfied by a lot of those if feels like everybody's so distance on zoom camps and stuff in this is Some of these people being reunited together in a place as their characters. And it's just so so good so good and Where the leaves off. oh and also this season In last season season two they introduced There they reintroduced Oh my god what's his name martin. Cove blanking on the character's name on the free john kreese john kreese they reintroduced john kreese last season. And this season They gave us some flashbacks. They basically throw is sprinkled throughout the season. This john kreese back story. That i never like the john. Kreese story like john kreese begins. Basically it's a story that. I never thought i needed or wanted but ends up being pretty lot of fun these digital da. Jim i have not watched season. No I didn't know this but like after watching the series i learned that it was actually the. They used another actor by learned after watching it that they use his son. So yeah so Yeah Anyways Where this show were. The season leaves things off for season. Four is incredible. I like really like that. Last episode had like almost like the last episode. I want to compare it to the last episode minute or season to like i literally had both catcher and i like jumping up and down honor on bed. We're watching on her bed and like here's coming out over at like i it just so good so i don't know i..

"Girl who finds out that is pregnant and Has to go from pennsylvania to new york in order to get an abortion And her her cousin goes with her. And it's this very low key very very indie story extremely grounded Very very emotional. But without overselling as like it doesn't feel like it's trying to be this you know. Prestige drama is just a very much grounded in realism. And there is a a spooky calmness of it that really just lets you sit with. The gravity of the situation have been so many movies about abortion because it's controversial and it's dramatic and you know it's a it's a it can be a powerful story but i don't think i've ever seen one. That just felt like you really tapped into the quiet contemplation of of having to deal with especially at such a young age. And then there's a a pivotal scene in this movie to that really just hits it home and makes it so that you feel like you're right there with her and you are in in this situation and it's it's a very simple seen and it's not in one that is full of big performance but it is so effective and it just breaks your heart and i just i i love this movie So so so much. H t. I think that you loved it as well. Oh yeah. I really really loved this movie. I had a head expectations for never rarely sometimes always going in. It had been on so many critics top ten list. But it's a movie that i felt like had to steal myself for because it dealt with such a difficult subject and because it seems so to be so bleak and to be generally like that kind of hard to watch drama that you expect from this kind of subject matter but i found it surprisingly to be not it is hard to watch but not in a way that feel sorry punishing just kind of lets you sit with the characters like you said brad and it. It just kind of takes you along on this journey in a way that you are completely invested and you are completely Ingrained in these characters Emotions and sort of A end And and you know. Mine's mindset semi flanagan is just really really tremendous like she gives such a great performance as the lead character and You feel like every little thing on her face like every little emotion that flits cross and it's a movie that i think is completely without pretense. That feels really refreshing and Just really authentic and genuine and yeah that that sequence that you're talking about brad that we'll be talking about her moments. Podcast hit me so hard. Like i i was like tears were dropped. Were going down my face but in a way it the film is so good at not feeling like it's trying to took it your heart strings or manipulate your emotions. Just like you're in that situation and as everything's sort of dawns it becomes even more powerful It's it's really amazing. Film and I haven't seen elisa hitmen other film beatriz which i know also got a lot of praise as well but i'm really really interested to see like the rest of her works and what's again has in store to but yeah this is just a really really great Quiet contemplative movie and i adored it so h also watched freaky The body swap horror comedy. That was dubbed freaky friday the thirteenth. Back when it was in the works Plenty of people have talked about how much they love. This movie At how fun. It is and i echo. Those sentiments wholeheartedly It was even more fun and better than i anticipated. You know even based on how people were talking it. Just it just works so well. It has such a a great script that is not only funny and you know it uses plenty of the typical body swap comedy elements but also add some new ones to the the fray because of the serial killer spin on it. Vince vaughn is outstanding. It's always kathryn newton. It has a surprising amount of heart in it too. And it's just it all around. It's just a so much more than i thought it would be like it and honestly is better than it has any right to be. I just felt like Initially even when the trailer came out that it was going to be goofy and fun. But it's just such a well put together movie. That has a lot more going on under the hood than it would seem like for a movie with such a A high concept. And i really don't think that there's a part of the movie that doesn't work and you know even even the The ending you know manages to to insert a little bit of extra suspense and terror into it in a way that you are entirely anticipating and yeah. I was just very impressed by by how well you know. A movie like this turned out how about you. Hd yeah i echo what everyone has said. I really liked a lot of fun. I do think that was going to say i i. I do think that he did. This is what i was gonna say. I like that. It does a lot with them. A pretty like simple but unique premise But i do think that. I like Crisper a tap death day. A little bit better happy. They movies a little better. Which is directed by christopher landon. Who who directed freaky Vince vaughn though is hilarious Kathryn newton is good. I think she doesn't have much to do as much. Do has been spun but She really likes cells role and she looks great and she's it's just like such great imagery to it So yeah figgy fun time it. Speaking of vince vaughn. I actually re watched over the last week made this is the two thousand and one films came out before september. Two thousand one. It is set in new york city. It's ridden directed and co produced by jon. Favreau in the reason why we watch this is kitchen. I think i forget how it came up. We were talking about movies. John ever had directed because of mandalorian and she didn't realize that he directed health. We had gone rewatch that and she had never seen made which i remember loving when it came out. I was a big fan of swingers. That whole kind of indie movement. That was going on in the nineties into the early two thousands and I hadn't seen this movie and you know probably like ten fifteen years or something a while and This is a funny movie. If you've never seen made it has John farrow stars alongside vince. Vaughn as a bunch of guys who were kind of they're working for a local mafia boss. The end they kind of get this opportunity to gotti new york city. They're they're working in. La the an opportunity to work to to go to new york city and be part of this Anna the money drop of some kind Some shady things are going on going down the thing i like about. This has been kind of I feel like in swingers. The whole movie like john fabrics character. Kind of think looks up at vince. Vaughn and how like you quote unquote money. He is and how cool he is. And in the end of the movie spoiler swingers. I think john barrows character kind of realizes how he really isn't in how he doesn't have everything figured out as as much as he thought he did. and this movie is kind of a play against that. Where i think john vince. Vaughn is this like incredible fuck up to just can fuck up every single thing but think. She's the cool guy in the room and john farrow's character is like is completely aware of that Has some some great appearances from sean. Puffy combs Who elsa Peter faulk colombo as a great role in this I i love jon favreau when he does like these smaller films said like a five million dollar budget. A ninety minute film I will say that seeing this film in twenty twenty. I was surprised how old it feels for a movie that was made in this decade That are not decade this century. Sorry i'm surprised that like you know. There's they're smoking in restaurants and bars in this movie. They're like you know they have beepers go to payphones Surprised to see him like a couple of shots. The twin towers in the background Even like the film grain you know this was filmed on film. Like makes it feel colder than it should be for a movie that was made in the two thousands Which is weird to say. it's also interesting to see like barros obsessions like kind of just like looking over his entire career like even back then like there's a scene where he shows his His girlfriend's daughter had a cook some pasta so he's are obsessing on cooking and making like you know a a good meal there's like a whole scene that takes place in the beginning of the movie. That is that like the cd boxing. Match which i didn't really think was like a through line and in february stuff but in one of the episodes of actually the first episode directed by jon favreau of mandalorian season three or season. Two rather There was like a cd. Boxing match so know it just Interesting to see the obsessions jon. Favreau on display in this movie..

"That'd be cool or even a documentary. Anything more give us something that we can watch it. That's all i want. Okay let's move on to what we've been watching jacob. What are you watching listening. Both brad an i watch. You watched two movies wolf lockers for stuff. This is new film from a cartoon saloon. The irish enemies company working in two d. And i think we'll walkers is this magical miracle perfect little gem. It is a simple story. Beautifully told and compared to like soul movie. I absolutely adore you. Watch soul released striking animation. Go oh computers of that and he. He bowled over by it but still the computer said that watch wolf walkers which tutti and does things. You've never seen before in any kind of animation. you think. Wow hardly do that. There's a magic in wolf walker. Does the movie about magic. And it's if the match. Every frame is full of life in beauty the performances are so wonderful and rematch character designs which are themselves really stunning and remind me in a weird way of maybe not direct comparison but look back at like seven to four so very first disney may feature which you know has become you know a corporate icon days but back in the day felt radical dangerous new and fresh in will of reminds me of that of to being a playground for things. If you'll dangerous in the right ways like this is different. This is fresh his new What we have our own corner here corden. Nobody works in anymore. We can try things and with walkers tries things and they all work is amazing movie. I brad did you like walkers. Semesters i did ya. I absolutely adore this movie. Not just. The animation is simply stunning. Where every frame feels like a painting or an illustration from a along loss children's book from from so long ago but The story is just purely magical it. The fantasy elements are beautifully brought to life. I does so interesting things with how tells the story to i. I love the differentiation in the animation. Between what the hell the wolf walker see the world in how they visualize Sounds incense and things like this and it's just it's amazing just to see it come to life in this fashion. I haven't seen any of cartoons limbs previous work like the secret of kelso or anything like that but it's this was just Such a wonderful movie to get lost in and It just made me. It made me feel like a kid again and even like in the final battle isn't anything Revelatory as far as bringing new to the table. But i found myself getting caught up in like worrying about the fate of these characters on what was going to happen Yeah it's a magnificent animated feature. And i i just wish that you know You know cartoon was able to churn out more movies more often on the same level as pixar. Because i would love to see so much more from them. This is a walk in solar are unfairly attached to the hip. Because they're both going to award season the front runner and critically beloved darkhorse for you know author. This year i think seoul and walkers represent the absolute apex modern which can be from from different angles. And i think some people are having to compete against each other but making them into rivals gibson natural inclination. But i think we're in a year like this like we're soul and walker is what a. What a magnificent example of animation is in right now it. Wow wow allow. Maybe soil could win. Best picture and wolf walker could win best animated. I'm gonna. I'm gonna keep on pitching this jacob. You're gonna tell me now. But i would. If we've walkers won an oscar and oscar's don't matter the today. But i would say like oh. Finally some recognition for the studio is amazing. Movie that my own personal top dan. I think it is out sold by one spot. Actually but it's hard to look at seoul. Say you don't deserve oscar. Because seoul is the absolute best picks been a longtime top three for me so who the who the heck knows all i know is that i'll be revisiting solar and walkers quite a bit this year because holy crap. Good walkers it's on Apple tv plus by the way it may be that intend lasso our recent for you to set up relatively close and boy and boy states. Yeah boy it's a very very good as well. It won't make you feel good like walkers and it'll make you feel a little good but also making bread. I also watched a movie couldn't be more different than Walkers as hunter hunter starring devon sawa a surprisingly good in rugged as isolated a backwoods men whose families being threatened by a wolf he defined. It's and he finds more than bargained for and it's all say other than to say that for the first five minutes of his ninety minute movie. I was onboard enjoying. It's really menacing low key vibes. The climax happened in my wife through her mouth literally through her mouth. And i couldn't stop laughing because she was so upset and i was so what happens comes happens with such ferocity that i could not stop laughing in a positive way i was. I was bowled over. And i knocked on my ass by this movie because i it really came out of nowhere swinging connected with my head. That's abroad Hundred hunter worth price price of mission. For you yeah I this was mentioned before. And i. don. I think A chris or or band mention that if this movie had the eight twenty four logo on the beginning a lot more attention. This was the source of some controversy over jacob. Tweet missed attributed that to me but it was actually christie. Said that when we were talking about that he's absolutely right and we we've talked about our slack and stuff to that it kind of has the same vibe of a comes at night where it's a little bit of a slow burn but definitely some genuine terror and suspense and tension throughout man. That ending is up there as far as just being shocking and gruesome one. I'd say like if if you find yourself giving taking a chance on hunter hunting man. This isn't what it's cracked up to be. trust me. Just just just. Just wait for the inning. Because the whole movie. I think is is great but that ending takes it to a whole different level and it is It's pretty pretty vicious. What what. I found myself really being impressed by devon sawa in this movie to the point where i was watching him and i'm trying to figure out what he reminded me because he looks so much more older and rugged now and i feel like that maybe we should have devon sawa replace mel gibson in the kind of roles that mel gibson place because i kind of got that vibe from him in this movie and i feel like like maybe there's a renaissance like a comeback for devon. Because he's been making movies steadily but they've typically been a little bit more of the low key bargain bin thriller kind of things And so. I think that this movie shows that he's still got some good acting chops in and i think that he gets older. I hope that he starts to do more stuff. Like this. and things that garner more attention. yeah. I agree very good here and i will say that your curious about moving. Don't wanna washable on note. we're talking about. We'll be discussing contractors ending at length in tomorrow's back half of our topic moments because one hundred hundred. i think. Probably be on that list before. We'll cross that bridge tomorrow. okay Bread what else. Have you been watching. So i got a chance to finally see never rarely sometimes always and this is something that t also watched this week we actually h doubled up on a couple of movies and so this is one that has been in the end of year. Conversation as a critic been coming out. Hopefully it will be an award consideration it It played at sundance all the way back at the beginning of twenty twenty and i it's available on. Hbo match right now. It is the story of a seventeen year..

"He he dropped out of school in the seventh grade. He doesn't know anything about movies. Produced and it worked and he became this very rich and powerful guy even though he's clearly an insane person who literally physically assault anyone who disagrees with them so that's the trifecta of books right there. disney war many would be king and hit and run which will give you great insight into hollywood and confirm that no one in hollywood actually knows what they're doing a christopher devil's candy. I read that to you. that's great. Court is invaluable for people. Listen to podcasts. While i know everybody in hollywood is not know what they're doing point candy. It's about the making of The bonfire of the vanities. Brian depalma. Movie i gotta say that like as great as these books are they're also kind of like dispiriting like there's this heart in disney war where the writer sits in on just a meeting on movies and you can see how little goes into anything like they're talking about the princess. Diaries to the risha make the princess diaries. Two and i don't have the conversation for made him basically like michael eisner is like we can't call it. The princess diaries to it sounds dumb. We should call it. Princess in love in everyone in the meeting is like great title. Like that is not a terrible idol. Like they're all just like that works and they move on. It's like what the fuck it just. It's like you know. I love movies. I love the art of film but reading these behind the scenes things. They just confirmed that the people the movers and shakers people who call the shots they really are just always say dumb. They're they're they're really just kind of like oblivious to how anything works and they started just luck into their careers and i don't know man it just it just seems like anyone you have. The right connections can become very rich and powerful movie producer. Who doesn't know jackson about movies. I two things to say here chris. I hate the be the person that's going to defend Rich powerful on this. I just want to add that disney were also makes bob. Iger look really really bad. I gotta say. I knew very little about bob. Iger just knew he was the disney guy but reading this book. He was like a weatherman that became them but basically the all through disney war. Bob iger he's like he as the book starts. He seems like an okay guy and then he realizes If i just suck up and agree with everything that eisner says one day i will run disney and he basically just throws everyone under. The bus doesn't care who he hurts and it was just like. Wow these people are just terrible human beings and maybe you just have to be a terrible human being to run a very successful company. I don't know anyway go ahead. Peter defended disney. I was gonna say that. I don't think all movie executives are that bad. Some are okay some like i feel like ones that. Come out of creative like How no. I don't really know much jason blunt but i would assume that he has more like sense in him now. I don't know. I mean. I just wanted to wait. Look like a hell. No i guess is another arena but will get steve jobs. I don't think like every executive like -secutive that runs a company is completely clueless. Reluctant to it. I don't know he was by all accounts. He was kind of an asshole to. You have to be really in general. You have to be kind of just like cold hearted to succeed and as as bleak as that sounds. I mean like massive miners like you want to be rich and powerful you literally okay with just crushing people and wait. Wait chris. what are you talking about. Mark zuckerberg got no. Have you read the psychopath test by jon. Ronson asked about how it suggests that. Psychopaths are everywhere. Just they're just not the ones who murder people and i think that most corporate executives are low grade psychopaths. I think this feeds. Yeah it's hard it's like i. I read these books. I'm like are these people like just really stupid or are they like incredibly evil. It's like this very weird line. You can sort of shrug off their behavior if you think like. Oh they're just oblivious if they're not oblivious that just means brealey morally bankrupt by the way. I'm not sure if you've ever read this crest but William goldman has a series of books adventures in the screen trade. And there's another one. Which i know is not from an executive level but it's from screenwriter Looking up which. I think kind of falls in the same kind of like category of books that you might want to check out right and it's also earlier too. It's like in the seventies and eighties. So i'm not sure there might be some good stories in there. I think even to this day that are really interesting and show you know. I think he paints it with a picture of nobody knows that You know anything in hollywood which is kind of you know forgiving of bad executive decisions but Yeah we were talking on our slack channel after we were talking about you reading disney war and i forget who said it was either you or jacob. Said this would be a good movie. I like this would be a great netflix's miniseries. I'd love to see a show. That was like an adaptation of this book in also you know The men who would be king Like i i feel like that could be incredible but like what. What are we come to the conclusion that like. It's not possible all people are alive. I guess in theory you could. You could have the character like the people in a movie. But i feel like since like disney has such deep pockets. They wouldn't allow like the disney name. We have to change the neighbors of be like disneywor- z. Or something just to get around being sued but i would also love to see like adapted or even like a podcast would be kinda cool. You really cool podcast on that thank you..

"Was sort of a but with texas twist at setting the in west texas it's full of Desert's and you know sheriff's cowboy hats and it's very much American southwestern it's bloody and darkly funny and it's the kind of story that i find fresh comics comics so often you know. Want to have whizbang. Pailin them by the very nature and this is a very low key very drawl southern nawar and i'm enjoying a lot in the first six issues are out and it'd be collected into a trade paperback out. I think sooner in keep on going after that. So that's that texas blood i also. I finally finished a final issues of sex criminals a at one time massively popular and widely talked about comic series. That really petered out like hardcore his back. Half get thirty issues appeared fan of this. Is your finish this i did not i. I have a subscription to my comics allergy app. So i've been paying for it up until you said ended. Recently the last issue Lots of she was. I think two months ago and last six. She's been sitting on my to read pile for so long staring at them going. I do not wanna finish you. You're here yeah. Basically the same thing's happening with me but like it's a virtual to read pile and it's probably you know. Probably like twenty issue is thirty issues. Total and this is what comic series. That's about a couple who realizes that When they ejaculate during sex they can freeze time and start off with a joke between writer matt fraction artists chips at arche is like can they make comic series and the answer was yes in the beings really really funny science fiction fantasy competent people sex powers and it and they decided to try to rob a bank by freezing time after having sex a truly bizarre wonderful very serious for about twelve issues that he realized they only the only have enough story about twelve issues. Ed spins its wheels and becomes nonsensical and goes up avenues. That doesn't feel prepared to explore. And i feel really crappy for recommending to so many people After like the first tennis shoes so good to great so smart and funny and strange for the really really peter out it becomes something so disappointing the first two onto the first tenant tissue so it's so good and so it really starts to become a absolute shore to go through. Yeah i think unlike fifteen issues in. And i stopped kind of like wanting to read it because i think it was starting to peter out that point but i agree with you. It's so smartly. Funny i it almost like reminds me like fight club in way like david fincher spike interesting. Because i think it's a bit more emotionally mature by design. even though it's about emotionally immature people get an interesting Double feature for sure. Yeah And what else have you been reading. Oh yeah The omnibus collecting. The first massive chunk of scott side and greg lewis batman run Came out for a while. But when deep sale on amazon's i bought it. And this was this for me. Because i read comics before dc relaunched itself ten years ago at the new fifty two initiative by the issue for him. I wait until you're in shape. You're back and started cooler. Run of batman was the first. I must read comic. I read month to month like getting subscription reading every issue by issue. I have mall in a box somewhere. Regret them on this forms. That can revisit them because a great writer most of his non superior stuff is hard driven so his take on. Batman is very creepy and unsettling batman's up against a city in a rose gallery who are treated characters. He'd respond for a long time. So he's familiar withdrawing creepy things and it's a stream team and they're still working. They're still do special events together and They are so telling the back to become batman but in different ways throughout dc comics This is a really really strong Interesting take on batman and on that actually recommended to People who maybe aren't general because it really is this conspiracy horror nor flavored tail as opposed to just batman punching things. Although there is a a batman punching things okay. Let's move on the crest chris. You've been reading something that both jacob and i have talked about priestly on this podcast Yes it's Disney war and it's all about disney in the late eighties nineties leading up to The early two thousands and it basically covers the reign of michael eisner disney and first of all. The book is great. It's a great read. It's great insight into the behind. The scenes goings on at disney. And i'll admit. Even though i knew who michael eisner was. I really didn't know much about him and entering this book. Man he is a horrible person. He is just a monster and as weird as it sounds like. This book made me realize that. Like i guess. All businessmen are really dumb selfish narcissists because everything. Mike eisner does in this in. This book is very trumpian in that like anytime anyone criticizes him. He's like oh you're as loyal to me and he doesn't want to listen to anyone else and everything he says is just the bottom line and just reading it. I was like this is exactly how donald trump acts and that may be fine in the world of business. But i guess the moral of the story here is. Please stop electing businessmen to be the president. Because it's a bad idea but this book is is is very just fascinating and it also confirms that to be like a big hollywood executive. You really just kinda stumbled into the job like a. There's like a rotating door of executives in this book. Just come and go and time after time. They all seem like they kind of just like locked into the job. They don't really know about movies. They don't know anything about anything really just happened. Like be powerful guys or just like i work at disney now and they lasted a while and then michael eisner pushes them out the door because he can't work with anyone so it's a it's a great. It's a great book is a great read. I read before this. The men who would be king which is about the founding of dreamworks and i would really recommend. I wish i had read this. I because this is almost like a prequel to that. Or that's like a sequel of this. Because they both involve jeffrey katzenberg. Who worked at disney and then got pushed out in went to work it at dreamworks. So if you're if you're looking for a good a double feature of books. I'd recommend starting with disney war and then jumping into the men who would be king and i'm also i'm also reading now hit and run which is about producer jon peters and that also underlies my theory that you really don't have to know anything about anything to be a very rich and powerful movie producer. You just you can run. It's so what are the book is just one nightmare after another. It gives me an attack right so if you don't know i'm sure you'll have seen the kevin smith video where he talks about working with john. Peters on superman lives but bazeley peters was a hairdresser was a hairdresser to the stars in hollywood and he became barbra. Streisand's hairdresser any basically use that to. I started ended up in a romantic relationship with her and then he basically parlayed that into becoming a movie producer..

"Hey that's me. Senior writer ben pearson going on at writers. Why trampoline in. Chris evangelista okay. So let's let's talk about what we've been doing jacob. What have you been up to Been underwater this week to care of our end of the year content Slash always runs end of the year stuff in the first week of january to give the staff changes as much as they can give our readers a chance to see what they can really enjoy it and this year has been a lot of fun Just very very busy. Everybody has top ten couple. Freelance pieces like a running. We have not recaps twenty twenty cinema in in terms of dishes and food. So it's like the eggs for mandalorian or the breakfast english and birds of prey the oily cakes from first cow which actually really amazing look back at a year pop culture through who the most delicious or interesting food dishes we saw. Yeah so we also. Have you know more traditional stuff as well and Podcast listeners know that we ran our around the first half of our top fifty months of the year it yesterday. We halfway through in two and a half hours. It's open android that as much as i enjoyed wrangling that we have all week all week. This week is just looking back in twenty two thousand film and know what was the best most memorable and so far. Lots of good stuff to makes you check it out in that. Second part of that discussion coming tomorrow. Yes we are recording tomorrow with plans to publish the same day so Fingers crossed things. Go right and you look to hear our talk. Fifty twenty four moments lockdown the at the end of the first episode and With all the streaming services in the world. I heard that you subscribe to another one yet. Another one yeah. I subscribed discovery. Plus i mean it literally has all the laundry folding shows my wife and i watch and that seems like a backhand compliment. But it's it's being able to put on a tv shows or discovery shows or food network shows and not have to commercials as that auto play while we'll do stuff whether it's playing board games or whether it's you know lily. Folding laundry cleaned the kitchen. It's a tremendous resource for that kind of background. Chill out pay half time entertainment. And that's something that is missing streaming services. I think and plus has all those shows like having on i find what are the shows. Run down the list of shows that you and your wife like have on in the background. Anything network anything cooking chopped For example like my wife watches anything on. Hdtv in more vital south to talk about in the watched. Extra battle bought is on there and the new battle bots spin off as every plus exclusive so. It's it's just stuff i like. I mean ends of weird to see stuff. I like next to like. Tlc which is mostly garbage. You know reality show nonsense. But i think i'm paying six ninety nine a month for the ad free version. Is there a lot of like like original programming on discovery plus live announce quite a bit depends on what you're into like the the gains the couple who used to have like the big shows and hdtv before this criminal network of unique stuff there. So it's a big drop if my wife but you also if you're mia battle bought spin off is going to be just. I really recommend looking at the list of things that they have available for streaming and coming to it. Because there's a lot of stuff a lot. Originals and i will say. A lava doesn't appeal to me the loss stuff on every plus. I'll never watch. But in terms of having a ready made library of so many thousands of hours of shows it is one of the biggest bargains in streaming. If it happens to contain things you know you yeah. This is an advertisement for discovery plus where we are not being paid by discovery plots. But i i will say that. If you are a verizon wireless customer or if you have reisen as your internet service. I learned that you can get six months free of discovery plus. I'm not sure if it's the ad free version or not but So if you had that you may want to look into that. I also be disney plus on that too so this report is that like. Yeah you should definitely research. Just make sure it's has things you want in case for me as somebody who likes to have tv on. Clean the kitchen or cooking food or organizing cards in a card game. Which i was doing the other day as was organizing car. A board game hip hop card game in the binders while i had Had food network stuff on from this. I find it to be a pretty much the most relaxing streaming service out there is no. You don't need to pay attention to any show you put on my wife put on amy. Schumer learns a cook for like four hours tonight. We just had it on what to give everything great. So that's reports hd. Have you been relaxing. I then you know kicking back with a crossword. I have described before on this podcast. How my very specific vision of adulthood or successful is sunday morton Getting the coffee do crossword puzzle. And having i dunno a baguette or something and i am one step closer that dream because for christmas my parents got me a book of crosswords specifically a book of the best of the week. Crosswords from new york times. monday unfortunately is the easiest day of the week in terms of the new york times puzzles but that means that there is one for every day of the week and i can go through each of them in my journey. What i didn't know this. Because i haven't followed crosswords but why monday's that because like you know it's back to work and no one wants like really work hard at the crossword on monday. I guess so. I think it's just it's a Increasing levels of difficulty with each day is always the most difficult so monday. Would i guess naturally be the easiest. And then you get carter with tuesday wednesday thursday etc. I don't know what the specific reason is. But i guess i think that makes sense know monday. No one wants to do anything so they wanted to stay in easy crossword and So far in the two weeks that i've had this Abidjan nine costs words. Very exciting rats. Thank you i just. I just think it's insane that like new york times. this lake. The inverse of like what movies does where like. You know sunday's their biggest day. Were you know the most amount of people by their newspaper and their lack. No we're not going to give them like the mass appeal blockbuster easy you know. Back crossword puzzle were given the hardest. We're gonna give them the art house film across scores puzzles on sunday. That comparison That's what we've been reading jacob. What are you reading yeah. I've been catching up a more complex. Recently i want to recommend a newish series and finished his first of six issues. It's an ongoing back called it. That texas blood from writer chris. Khandan and artists phillips. And if you've read the comic series criminal ousted long-running thalji series f all various. No criminals whose lives intersect has been for years. That takes.
