"You can always tweet to us as well as well at all of it. W and Y C okay to start us off, then second night, Kahane ca, you know as well as anyone. There's a A whole lot of holiday specials out there about Monica. But there's one that you love from 2015 called the night before. Why is this a perfect tonic? A movie for you? So, Yeah, I should. I should probably mention that I may have been a little over zealous as selling this as iconic a movie. This was a movie I saw when it came out, and I thought it was like very underrated. It didn't really get a lot of write ups. I kind of got lost in the shuffle at the time. And I remember like hysterically laughing at this woman being like, Why isn't this like a holiday classic? And in my memory. There's like a low simmering subplot about Seth Rogan's character in the movie. He's Jewish, but he's married to a Christian woman and he has to go to church. And he's kind of questioning his own Judaism, and he's kind of rebelling like he he wears a star of David sweater, the entire movie, and he had goes to have like Chinese, the Chinese restaurant to eat at one point And he has a freak out in the church. That is very funny, however, the movie itself. It's called the night before, because it's the night before Christmas, So it actually just speaks to the fact that like there's just so few options for Hanukkah movies that in my own mind, I ended up reaching out to a movie. That's kind of more a Christmas movie just to get a little bit of Judaism in there. What's your take on eight crazy nights. I love the crazy nights. Eight Crazy nights, I think is probably the closest thing we have to a classic animated Hanukkah movie. And obviously, this is the Adam Sandler film that was really an extension of his iconic the Hanukkah song. Um, and fun Fact I have from a trusted source. Somebody who grew up without him. Sanders family, uh, that he is a very good Jewish boy. Who came home for Hanukkah and the high holy days. Even at the height of his fame every year in the nineties, and he performed the Hanukkah song at his nephews bar mitzvah, So that's a that's a bench right there. Wow! Well, although I have to say, I think we may play this Monday on the show. A crazy night. I mean, it may get displaced by Hanukkah puppy. I don't know if you heard Monica public yet. I don't know it. But those are two of my biggest interests. Hanukkah puppy and two more words for you, Davy digs. I'll leave. Whoa! Let's go under music and dance in the way of Christmas specials. Lot of music theme productions. Let's talk about Dolly Parton, who has two specials this year, so first up, we have Ah, Holly Jolly Christmas. Of course, it's called that it came out in December 6 on CBS. What was the format of this one? So how we, dolly Christmas? Um, it was a little bit weird. Um Holly. Those Christmas is essentially Dolly Parton singing some of her classic for a classic with some of the classic Christmas songs. And like an intimate candle that setting and in between the songs. She shares, personal Christmas stories and some faith based recollections of the season. On bit's sort of a A really classic. You just want the music and you don't want too many more frills with it. Let's play a clip from her 2020 Christmas album of version, which was featured in the Netflix film Dolly Parton was Christmas on the square where Dolly is An angel, of course..

"Well. This night is going to be remembered for a long time and there's a whole bunch of different reasons why people are gonNA remember it. The laker fans have their reasons. the clippers fans have their reasons. The nuggets fans have their reasons I think I just clip. Yeah they're there It's it's rough right now. I mean I I I think any team that had duplex have experienced. What just there? That is a devastating blow, but I think I just watched. McMahon I'll see if you agree. was. An Absolute Total grade a choke. Oh, not just. All much in the three one aspect I mean that jokes who actually in the three one aspect especially in the blowing double figure leads in the last three games while choke in that even setting that aside, I'm just talking about the actual performance of night. Oh, what it only took him seven minutes in the fourth quarter to get a bucket. Yeah. Okay. We're of P. turnovers than frequent hold on hold your fire is just for a second dinner decided the backboard hold your fire for a sector. That would i. I think what I saw was that was a historic choke job and combined with a spectacular game seven performance by the nuggets or. Spectacular Three game comeback by the neck and look. Let's give the nuggets credit to straight series down three one comeback when Bo series Yokich. There's no. Yeah. But with Yokich is at minimum a second tier superstar right behind the parental VP candidates well. He was a I hear superstar in this game. For sure. He totally eviscerated Kawai Leonard in this game and really in the back half of the series but in this game. especially. Yeah I mean he he was great in this game I mean. Just. Look at the box score Paul millsap only had six points but. his buckets were huge. He played on the better six point three rebound performances. I've ever seen Jamal Murray. We've gotta get in this guy's on the Kahane's factor starting five this year forty points in a game seven. So yes. Absolutely, give the nuggets credit and we've got time to talk nice about the nuggets. But what we need to do right now is pile on the most arrogant bunch of guys. The most Arab arrogant franchises never sniffed a frigging conference finals and hey, props to the Portland Trailblazers back court for completely unloading their troll game. Warden CJ mccollum absolutely deserved to just fire away because you got Paul George and Patrick Beverley acting like they're on some frigging dynasty. They've never sniffed the conference files. Why are they act like there's some you know I mean come on now. So yes, I. I'll be honest I thoroughly enjoyed the collapse and the troll jobs that came along with it.

Zero-Zero Landings

"You see this video? So this video of zero zero landing holy Moly so it says a twitter video on twitter out the front window of presumably an airliner or some sort doesn't make three twenty. Thank you because I didn't read it. I just looked at the pretty pictures and I was actually somewhat riveted by these pictures. Because it's like a fifty five second video. The I forty five seconds of which just shows you clouds Alexandra visibility out the front window of the airliner and then like last ten or fifteen seconds. You suddenly see the runway and I mean they're they're basically on basically in the flare when you can. I see the runway out the out the front window and and to their credit they're totally on the centerline. Good job I guess but It's all automation I. It's it's all something because they I'm watching this thing. If I'm I'm the pilot in this airplane and I suppose if I was the pilot airplane I'd have a lot more experience than I do now but if I was in the pilot of the airplane the experience I have now. I'd be staring out the window looking for trees. Holy Crap this going to peer. I don't know what's going on here. runway okay. They really do this. Apparently you guys know. I mean I can't tell from here. What kind of a cert? Yeah that is it. It could well be kept three. I don't know okay. I've heard that term before. I don't exactly know what cat three zero zero cats to is. I think fifty feet hundred feet something like that cat. Three cat three or whatever it's called is zero zero Now is I understand it. all Airbuses at all Boeing's manufactured recently and I'm putting recently and finger quotes have the capability to do that presuming. Everything is is present and working There's I'm sure there's a minimum equipment list for for these operations but you also have to be trained crew has to be trained and has to be current in the operation reform. All this I hope yeah I hope so. There's probably some other restrictions about which I know nothing now I mean. Does this happen very often happens more often than you think. Well okay so let me let me be. I would notice this if I was on one of the airliners. I was traveling on. And as people know I've fair. More than average travel on a lot of airliners and when we're doing our our arrival through the clouds I'm looking out the window looking for the ground. All right I mean. Forget straight ahead. I'm just looking straight down. Which is a different kind of visibility? I admit but I'm looking to when we break out of the clouds and I'm not a real comfortable camper so to speak comfortable airline passenger Until I can see the ground out my out my window and I would it so the point of this story being I would have noticed if we landed on that kind of a circumstance because it would have freaked me out. I I'm trying to think and I am not as many as you jack but I you know I've been on a few airliners in the last couple of years I don't recall are certainly recall. Some some approaches in some classes. But I don't recall anything like this. Yeah that's I mean just to give give listeners. A context here when they can actually see the runway surface. Even even after they've touchdown and you can kind of sense from from the I actually didn't listen to the audio very carefully if there even is audio but you can kinda sense from the motion of the video. When the gear touches down you can kind of say okay touchdown so the rolling out there rolling out and they still can only see like a stripe and a half ahead on the runway and those strikes are standardized distances right. Yeah Okay so you can see a stripe and then half the gap between stripe but even if you can see the neck to head to the extreme. That's four hundred feet visibility. I mean it's like yeah I mean Holy. Moly the other thing too is. You're only looking at the windshield very very narrow view We don't know what they could see by looking out to decide okay true. It's possible down. Not that that matters because in my airplane for example it's one and I have to see something of the runway environment before I could land out of that approach With these kinds of of approaches the three as whatever You don't need to see that you only need The working equipment and the certifications cat cat to is again either fifty or one hundred feet and you still need. I think to see something other runway environment before you can land Yeah David what's your take on this whole thing? Well I been in a jump seat when we did a cat to level landing Years Ago I think it was a hundred feet was what we had. And it's for me. It was a new thing and it made me tense The flight crew and they were everyday business with them You know just another aisle less except they could go down to one hundred feet two hundred feet of which point they head to see the runway environment or go around and I've heard stories of people in Lighting G. A. Aircraft Part. Twenty-three stuff that we fly out on ninety one flight. That is not for hire who have a landed in well whether it was zero. Zero or fifty. Eight of a mile was the subject of very boisterous argument with the people on the ground. But I watched this guy come in when everybody else had gone missed and gone to a different airport i. I'm not sure that I'm not sure that you're GONNA get my Kahane's down that level may maybe with a little more experience with the L. P. V. Approaches because I've noticed in having both an an IRA less active at the same time that the is far more stable and easy to use and the IRS. Which would have a little zig zag and a little up and down depending on the terrain as you're leading into the runway expand that acronym for me l. p. l. what'd you say. L. P. Young. That's sorry trick question. Well lateral lateral precision with vertical guidance and that. Lbj got it okay yeah just OPB. And that's the WAAS. Gps equivalent to an irs and some l. p. v. approaches in fact have the same minimum. I

"I'm curious if you have. Any predictions about the outcome. And really more importantly, if you think that the outcome of these really elections are likely to have a meaningful impact on the quality of life for people living in the West, Bank, and Gaza or you think it's likely to jump start the peace process, which as you note has been dead for some time. Yeah. I mean, it's it's interesting. I think wha- scene overall trend in his Rayleigh politics that is moving more and more to the right with each election, Israel and Israel's kind of center of gravity, politically shifts more and more to the right? And that's certainly true in this election where Netanyahu is already has a very right wing coalition. His now kind of even been flirting with these Kahane's who are you know, described in Israel as Israel's K K K, and some of whom whose members are actually barred from entry in the United States as designated terrorists. And so that's on one side on the other side. And the more centrist coalition. That's led by Ganz. It's interesting because there's nobody in Isreaeli politics who's talking about a two state solution or about even the Palestinians in general. It's just not an issue. It's not an issue because I think both the West Bank and Gaza Strip have been sort of neutralized in their own respective ways. And there's no pressure to have a meaningful. Peace process, certainly not from Washington, which is wholly on board with not just the with an Israeli agenda. But with a very far right Isreaeli agenda that is for the most part opposed to a two-state solution. And so I can't make predictions about who will or won't win. I think the polls in Israel show that it's very very close in one moment and Netanyahu looks like he's edging out against on the other hand in other moment. It looks like gas may have had a good run for a while. So it's it's very hard to predict. But it's clear I think that neither of these two blocks is talking about peace is talking about a two-state solution. And I don't think that either of them are likely to move the ball forward in terms of genuine two state solution. If only because Washington is no longer really pushing the ball forward on a two-state solution agreed caldo Guinea, thanks so much for joining me. The book is called blind spot. "It seems one of the ideas that comes to mind here is like you'd almost wanna have. Just social groups that are. More adherent to scientific consensus. I hate to come back to to that. But because ultimately if if that is not present in in one of these social structures. I mean, it's there's going to be a high possibility that some other factor is going to be more pressing in the world view, and certainly one sees that in religious groups. I mean, not all religious groups. But there are certainly religious groups out there that have have beliefs that run very counter to scientific consensus down do they do so in a detrimental fashion. I mean, that's going to depend. Yeah. Again. I I mean as with all these questions like is there any way to actually engineer that or is that just impossible. Well, no, I think we have we need to create a new religion. That's what it comes down to you know. Yeah. The an open discussion science, I religion. They can just sweep across the sweep across the land from short ashore. And and and make a better world for the future. Well, I'll let you carry the crook of priests and profit on that one. But okay, here's maybe one more way. Another basically, I'm just offering different ways you could approach the motivation problem. I don't know of any specifics that you could create, but here's another way of approaching it. What if there is a way to shield facts from acquiring in the first place what cahan and co-authors call quote in Taganrog, cultural meanings. In other words, if you can't fix publican understanding, my making people better at science, comprehension, and you can't program people not to be incentivized first and foremost by a sense of partisan social belonging. Maybe the best way to protect facts is to find a way to never let them become politically charged in the first place. If there's a if somebody could figure out a way to do that, or at least lessen the probability that would happen that also seems like a very useful thing a good way to fight this problem. But it may also. Be impossible because there's again, political incentive for people to politicize certain issues. Yeah. The league con Kahane's definitely talked about this before I believe he touched on the idea of of not necessarily like outright preventing. But like a win. It is beginning to take place, and and finding ways to intervene and keep it from being so highly politicized because it's like, you know, barnacles building up on a ship or something, right? Yes. Like when you detect maybe have a process for when you detect that a an empirical scientific question is starting to become an issue of political significance. Suddenly what you want is to get all the politicians and political actors to stop talking about it immediately. And instead get politically neutral celebrities and spokespeople and stuff to talk about it. Yeah. I feel like it's a pretty good idea. I think it probably has thirty three and one third percent chance of success..

"Up democratic, subpoenas, because let's face it. This is an important choice because what's coming down the pike. If the Democrats take the house, which which I sincerely hope they do not is going to be nothing more than subpoena after subpoena after subpoena to the White House. And executive agency is going to be very ugly period. So you need somebody with Kahane's. I want to ask you a little bit about the Don mcgann's relationship with the president and what might be changing as he departs because you know axios who I reported that Mcgann was headed for the exits does include some of the drama in this saying that source said that Mcgann has done the best he could under very trying circumstances often had to bat bat back, unreasonable and legally problematic requests. I know you've worked closely either with the president or with the legal team. There are kind of having conversations from time to time. Did you ever get any sense of that Mcgann was trying to bat back legally problematic requests from the president? No, I think what was what was from time to time there. It would be politically problematic requests in other words a lot of people around, the president, like things to be. Quiet and nice and smooth and traditional right that is not. The president of the United States, that we have I have never heard anyone say that what the president was requesting was illegal there are people there who get acid. Indigestion when the president wants to do something out of. The box but that's who he. Is and one of the things you have to do is lawyer is be creative when you have a client who likes to think out of the box and you help that client especially when the client is not a lawyer which does president is not but I would say this I would say the president's instincts are pretty damn good he. Got elected over the notion that, he could never get elected. After having gotten the nomination when it was said he could never get the. Nomination he's got a supreme court Justice on the supreme. Court he's about to get a second one he may have one of the most historic presidencies in history and? For, the entire time because this is the one thing that damage Again is, gets very very low marks for from people who know the situation and that is that he recommended rod. Rosenstein to Jeff Sessions to be deputy attorney general and it has. Turned out to be a monumental mistake well that plays an important role in. My next question then because Don Mcgann I imagine almost any lawyer isn't a position of working for the, president is there any indication. To you that he's one of the reasons the impediments that the president hasn't been declassifying documents as so many of his allies have often requests that he do to be more, transparent about what's going on in the Justice, department you hear all sorts, of stories about that and, one of the is that he has been an opponent. Of declassification the reasons for that or somewhat unclear an unknown that you know I I am an Victoria my wife, who do a lot of work. On this publicly have both said that we believe that. These documents should be declassified and having. Been privy to some of the stuff that's in there I I can tell you that I nothing more will help the president better Than having this stuff declassified I cannot think for the life of me, why these documents, have not been declassified yet even if they contain allegations against the president which are completely unfounded and even more salacious than the ones that have, been made public who cares that doesn't matter that's already. Baked, into the cake people who. Loved the president it's not gonna change their, mind one way or the other people who hate the president like NBC. ABC CBS MSNBC and CNN it's just gonna you know they're not going to change their minds sorry I can't help it over read what you just said or maybe read it appropriately are you saying that inside the classified documents that are tells they're. Not just tells rather but I'm sorry but. Allegations that are more intense than the ones that have been made public I have no way of knowing but there were rumors circulating about, that, from people that have. Seen those documents in that and that that may be one of the reasons that some of the people don't want the now I have no idea I'm just saying that is that is theoretically. One, of the reasons that it is possible that people would be opposed to Declassification the problem is there's a, lot of other stuff out. There like Brennan emails and all. Sorts of the emails of. People in the Justice department and letters documents memos that could be declassified which are known to be directly related to the attempt. To frame the president of, the sitting president of the United States. People. Forget that this conspiracy against. The president and that's what it was make no mistake. About it continued after is inauguration continued on the day of his inauguration what's going on, during transition this, is quite a startling and remarkable series of events and it's because it's been. Going on for so long and, people have gotten used to it and because the Democrats have done a marvelous job of obstructing any attempt to get at the truth people have forgotten what this is basically about and my. Only hope is that. These documents are declassified I think it is the best defense that the president has not only that the people who believe And understand what. Went on need the reassurance that will come from declassification and the other thing that's going to happen Is. As the election is. Over there has to be. A change at the Justice. Department show let me hold on Joe if, you don't mind let me hold onto you. I wanna ask you talk let's talk about. "Failed I was thrilled that we got to make the, show you, know do I wish the reception would have been, different of, course but for their own, reasons they didn't give the second. One and if they had given a second, season I wouldn't have been able to do. Blockers so there is the door the? Window, yeah, yeah. Yeah In a way like I think, we did the first season when you watch. It and I know you will immediately? From, the, center Like you know we. Kind, of. Wrapped it up in a nice way at the, end of the episode we didn't. Know but. Erupted, up any kind of yeah yeah so they come to you to do, this movie which must, have, been quite surprised I imagine yeah I had had? Lunch with Nathan Kahane, good universe a couple years before, and he was like are are you tired of other people directing your material and I was like what I know Outraged actually Throwing. Salad across and so he kind of got into. My hat and, then again I thought it was going to do, television television and I wasn't surprised knowing that it came from good universe and, point grey but I was surprised I didn't have to do any kind of dance that I didn't have to like prepare something to pitch to. Stay like this is why I think I'd be good. To do this. Is my I didn't realize that they had brought me in had asked me to come in for like an all lady writers panel for neighbors, to When, I, when I say yes to anything like that I like. Bring my computer I've got lots of thoughts and whatever and I had no idea that that was my. Audition that was my dance, like I'd come in and just doing a, panel on neighbors well 'cause I kind of took. Over the room, a little bit I guess I didn't realize I, had done that you know and when when you boss girl did yeah I, mean I'm used to writers rooms like I'm used to like doing that and so I guess when I left there they were like oh she. Should direct something of ours and fat became blockers now. I have having. Said that they have like this great script ready for you to direct by the it was called Cherry's well it was on the blacklist Something they had called, it they had renamed at. The pact and they had already done. Some work on it can I just say it was, three girls and three dads which I was gonna say like yeah and I think. That, point grey and good universe thought that too when I read. The script that was already two dads and a. Mom okay? What I was excited about was I. Was. Like the, writer in me came out and I'm like oh I know the. Take I have on this and I know, the changes I, would, like to make and ideas that I had and I. Thought the scripture super funny and so I said yes immediately and then I met with all the producers. Says basically like me. And, like ten producer dudes yeah Because I didn't have time to, do the rewrite so I had hired my husband, had, been Russell who we work a lot together so it was like Eban and like nine other guys and I basically kind of. Went through the script and was like. This feels like it's, written by..
