"The drug itself at least. These two drugs are also not right cory. What is your next drill down. So let's look at a company called less lease leslie's leslie's trader. I'm sorry l. E. s. l. shares fell over ten percent today and they've lost almost twenty percent since the start of the year. Tell me about leslie's. I've never heard of this company and yet you help. Who'll yeah the fools weekend. Yes is a chlorinated. Yes interesting interesting. Well how isn't that interesting. It's pretty communist soap saltwater. Pools donna chlorinated will. Yeah there are some wanna pros. I mean there's either. Saltwater pools chlorinated pools we have unchlorinated one. Okay well how has it been getting chlorine this last year. I think it's fine. Yeah the price hasn't gone up real for us probably has leslie's has benefited from it. Leslie sells stuff that make your pools and spas work They have had a just a fantastic Year or so because people have been revenue growth last year but twenty eight percent They have been selling lots of stuff to help. People take care of the pools and spas and they have been going there and buying lots of other companies and competitors to put them under the roof because this shortages of chlorine are real and getting reeler. and so they're buying competitors because their competitors can't get product than they can but They went up today announced that they're going to sell a bunch more stock in order to sort of short their balance sheet and maybe make it possible for them to go out and buy more companies and acquire more that thirteen million shares stock offering Didn't help things at all but Didn't up the stock at all. But it's been interesting to hear them talk about. We've heard all these shortages and all kinds of products whether it's clothing or it's it's semiconductors and yes big shortages in the world of chlorine. Here's leslie ceo michael back. We've been working very hard. Cure additional chlorine for our next fiscal year That pipeline is growing nicely and we expect to have somewhere in the forty to fifty percent increase in chlorine granules pounds there next year so i think the summit up tight in the fourth quarter for sure Better next year. We don't expect. Apply to normalize until after pool season. Twenty twenty two so that again is just. It's like everywhere you turn. Companies can't get stuff that they want to sell even when it comes to pool supplies and chlorine you know a chlorine shortage or higher chlorine prices. They're not going to be seeing just yet for consumer like myself. Because i mean normally you have a company that takes care of your pool. They're the ones that are buying the chlorine and taking care of it. So right now they have a pass the that any price increase on to us. But maybe that'll change. just wait. Who knows fingers crossed cory. What what's your next drill. Down to these kadi's trader c- dci shares fell eighty eight and a half percent today and they've dropped six percent over the past twelve months. What's going on with cadiz. Who the hell knows could dis. Shares are down forty percent in the last week with no news. Now this is not great with news. They don't do quarterly conference calls. They don't Tell us what's always going on. Let me tell you about their business. I'll tell you what they had to say about the stock move in. Then we'll go a little deeper in the business. The basics of their business is that they've got a bunch of water in the middle of mojave desert. They've got Secured land for seventy square miles of property with underground resources of water in san marino. County and in and around san bernardino. I should say which they've had since the nineteen eighties Like i said they don't do quarterly. Conference calls here from the company. We did see however a promotional video about the desert ready. You'll be inspired. Yes eras the anonymous spokesperson for. Could he's talking about this wonderful land. In the middle of mojave desert desert reserve the dry heat and hot sun draws the mind to one simple fought water stored beneath me. This landscape is renewable fresh groundwater which has sustainably supported responsible farming for more than three decades. Could these lies at the base of vast special watershed and groundwater resources knock used for farming are lost to evaporation. This groundwater could be saved to create a new water supply for communities in need california has no water to waste. Cadenas can help so as you know where you live isaac in los angeles county. They need water badly. Yeah yeah we do. Guys have water in the mojave desert. They don't need the water there. But what good is water. The mojave desert if you need it in los angeles the answer is nothing. It is not good for anything. This company does about a half million dollars in revenues. it has well over eighty million dollars in debt. They've been talking about this since the nineteen eighties. So are they just not tapping into it. Or why i mean listen. Inland empire around san bernardino. There's millions of people that neither water there can't fedex the water to los angeles he kills. Send it by email are you. You can't why would have never. I know it's tricky. You need access pipelines and and clearances and water rights into. These guys have been fighting in every last venue. They can find to try to get away to get this water from san bernardino to los angeles And in all these years. I mean they've been there since. Nineteen eighty three is when they started this company. We have listeners. This podcast who haven't been around since one thousand nine hundred three you'll maybe try a new strategy obviously not working so th well whatever strategy. They had a bunch of ceo's over the time they've had a bunch of different efforts It is it is perpetually a dream that has yet to realize so something seems to have changed here because like i said the stocks down forty percent in a week with no explanation the company itself put a released today and it stemmed the tide. A little bit you know. Stock was up near fifteen bucks a week or two ago was down in about eight and a half today. Close at nine and a half. They put out a release saying the company ports have been no new material developments or pending announcements concerning business operations. they went on to say they remain confident. In their plan to execute its mission mission is to just get water out of the aquifer and give it to la or as they put it they want to dedicate a unique and significant land and water acid to the implementation of sustainable water supply water shortage an agricultural projects responsive to california's resource needs ru. Somebody had a thesaurus. I mean so i. i don't know what's up with cookies. But i think the the business idea is so bizarre and their lack of successes for so unique in that they've been at this for you know thirty forty years almost and yet The stock shows. Something's going on here now. One of the things that has happened quite often with this company is there will be some bill before the california legislature. That's getting four. Added to or subtracted from worn amendment somewhere that might provide them With some way to get this water all the way to la. It hasn't happened yet. I really think they should rethink their strategy here. Everything in a. to move to san bernardino. Why don't they just say really. Wanna get to la. Just put it on a truck. Put it in some bottles. Of.

"Someone something. jewish people. Don't say no we we laugh about it but it doesn't come out anywhere it stays. It stays within last question i have for. You is people who know you know. Listen to podcasts. For years no we don't generally dabble in nonfiction programming. That's not top chef. We talked about like the jinx which was if you liked survivor and you watch survivor. But i mean in terms of like documentary docu series. Is this one particularly unique. Because of the subject matter in that every single moment is filmed. I mean my memory of watching documentaries experience watching documentaries even expert ones like the last dance which. I enjoyed earlier this year. There will be moments when someone narrates something. Because of course a camera wasn't turned out. Well they don't have a couple of things that they don't have like they don't have allen kadi's like falling out right that's right and i feel like there is some stuff that's like i don't know there's some domestic stuff that i think it skipped over a little bit but garrett's first first family that we just like they do a very effective job of being a they have something that like. No other documentary seems to have which is like we can always cut to these big waves. And they're don't like there are some guy gotta do a drone show like here's another flyover of burbank where we're doing a true crime documentary and it's like nobody really gives a shit about watching that but like i will just watch those waves crashing against the cliff four hours. They definitely last thing tonight. When we first got in there like the reason why this is the best and also the worst place on earth is because there are hundred of these other places. There are nineteen man crushing waves at any moment. And they're going sideways at you in all pointing you into these rocks. And because and there's an underwater canyon so three miles deep and yet being smashed into the rocks immediately is taken off the table as a problem which i respect. I don't know how they did that. Chris you longtime listeners. Know you yourself were lifeguard. You know you're i saw you. I don't wanna. I don't wanna brag but i saw you in a swimming pool this summer. And you know your way around h two. You're comfortable and confident. What is your level of like. Okay i could do some of that too. Are you fucking kidding. Me and zero zero percent. Zero love deep ocean stuff but there was like like a couple of times. But i've been snorkeling and you get really far out. There passed a reef. And you're like oh that is eternity. You know like that. I cannot contemplate like how ray are that is the pacific ocean and like i will die if i keep going out here. psychologically more than anything. I just find it terrifying. Those waves would kill us. Immed- yes yeah like there will be like oh cool like you saw people try and they were trying to get back onto the beach. There's some harrowing footage in this show where someone's basically trying to get back on the beach and the tide is just like yanking them back out so like they'll go in on a wave and be ten feet from the shore and then the tigers gang back out by like forty yards. Yeah in like even when people have that the other thing. You're towed out there in your choices are. You're either going to surf the best thing you've ever deserved. And somehow make it out or you're going to wipe out and wiping out doesn't necessarily mean you're going to do you know crazy. Triple back flip in the air and break your back. Even slip off the board or the wave of the whitewater. The barrel overtakes you. Then the next part of your journey begins and like that's even the people who survived like there's a moment garrett is like yeah. I saw the whitewater coming. So i was under water for forty fifty seconds like already. I'm like this is. This doesn't seem i blow that. He's he's also like i get the feedback. That's my thing is like. I wanna feel like i'm drowning. It makes your god. Bless these guys. I mean i would i. I think they should just start head. Space does very well. But i feel like i just need a motivational podcast. These three dudes in cj learning like laugh out trauma brothers. Keep laughing and khadi like we talk about how they have the footage of everything. But there's a moment last episode where kati rides the wave of his life and no one saw it so yeah because they were like is terrible accident yes so existential. It's unreal Bravo to all involved. Yeah forget me into this. I love it check it out. It's such a great watch. We'll wrap it up there. We were produced as always by kai mcmullen. We'll be back on thursday until then take care of the three of us. I think could serve big waves. I really think that. I think you're right. Yeah i. I've tried surfing many times by life. It's never gone. Well where small waves you have to do. Big waves back yet..

"Reprinted. Four times that year the also seems to have brought an indigenous boy about ten or twelve back with him. Who might have adopted the anglo. Spanish war was still ongoing in raleigh. And essex were both part of a raid on the spanish port of kadi's in fifteen ninety six which destroyed more than thirty. Spanish ships rally was seriously wounded in the thigh. Which never fully healed. But this was a victory for england and a somewhat lucrative one so he did start to win back. Some of the queen's affections. She eventually allowed him back to court and restored him to his position. As the captain of the queen's guard with things starting to turn around after this orinoco expedition and the raid on kitties soon. Elizabeth was starting to bestow more favors on walser rally again including making him the governor of the isle of jersey in sixteen hundred and she granted him an monopoly on playing cards as well. I'm telling you with the fabric in the wind and the playing cards he really had. The entertainment market cornered Then in sixteen o one. The earl of essex rebelled against the queen and rally helped put down that rebellion essex was executed for treason. The queen was devastated. But this meant that raleigh's chief rival at court was dead rally was widely reported as gloating over essex execution. But in reality he seems to have been a little more conflicted over it. The two men had really been close earlier on in their lives and raleigh didn't attend the execution even though he was expected to as captain of the queen's guard but rallies returns to relative favor at court was pretty short lived because queen elizabeth died in sixteen. O three james. I of england and sixth of scotland became king and james didn't particularly like raleigh raleigh also had a lot of enemies at court. Some of whom had convinced the king that raleigh was ready to back. A rival claim it to the throne. This rumor was not particularly realistic. It involved a spanish claimant to the throne and rally had spent much of his military career fighting against spain. He was also against the idea of england ending the ongoing anglo spanish war and even wrote a treatise about it so the idea that he would support a spanish monarch while also advocating continuing the war with spain. Just doesn't make much sense but soon rally had way bigger problems than these rumors in november of sixteen three he was charged with treason in a plot to overthrow king james. This plot was known as the main plot m. i n. It got its name because of its relationship to a lesser weirder plot known as the bye plot in. That's by leg b. y. By it cracks me up that the names that they settled on for these two plots are solely about their relationship to one another and neither of them is about what the plot was actually meant involved. Yeah the bye. Plot was discovered. I and it was a conspiracy among catholic priests and lay people to kidnap the king. In the spring of sixteen. Three their goal was to force him to grant religious tolerance to catholics. Puritans into place catholics in office on july eighteenth. Sixteen three george brooke was giving testimony about this plot and as he was doing so he revealed that his brother henry brooke lord cobham was involved in a whole different plot which was to kidnap the king murder him and replace them with lady arbella. Stuart there were no real connections between the main plot and the bye plot. Except for the fact that george henry were brothers and each of them was involved in one of these plots and that the authorities found out about the main plot while investigating the bye plot because of the connection between the brothers brooke. This is one of those things that if you wrote it in a forest people would be like too far. The whole thing is so weird. Convoluted during months of interrogation comes kaba made and retracted. A whole huge string of ever-changing confessions and accusations against rally. The most consistent and possibly believable charge was that raleigh sought out a pension from spain in exchange for providing information about british activities in the low countries or the indies after queen. Elizabeth died rally. Had once again lost most of his estates monopolies and other favors. He needed money and it's possible that he needed it badly. Enough to be willing to exchange information for it even to the spanish rally was arrested. Based on cobham's accusations. I mean even though they kept changing and he kept recanting them and then having a completely different story the fact that he was implicating himself. While making these accusations made people believe it more so rally was arrested. He was imprisoned in the tower on july twentieth of sixteen three about a week later. He tried to stab himself with a table knife. But he struck a rib and didn't do a lot of lasting damage when rally and the rest of the co-conspirators were put on trial. He spoke in his own defense including answering some questions about his actions. Back in the siege of smirk in fifteen eighty his response to these questions about whether he had acted appropriately was basically that he was following his commander's orders on november seventeenth rally and the co-conspirators in the main plot were found guilty and sentenced to death about two weeks later. Kaban once again retracted a lot of the accusations that he had made against raleigh. So it's not really clear whether rally had any involvement at all in the main plot even this whole question about whether he was trying to get a pension from spain but regardless of that question he was definitely guilty of treason under the terms of the law at the time because the treason act of fifteen thirty one included in its definition of treason this quote when a man doth compass or imagine the death of our lord the king. That was treason. Rally had definitely been really vocal about his dislike of king james and his general ill wishing of the monarch so even though his definitely real imagining. The death of the king was basically just a bunch of idle griping among his friends. It's still counted as treason under the law on december. Nine sixty three walter. Raleigh and the other condemned men were taken out to the scaffold. One at a time to be executed but each one was given a last minute stay and sentenced to imprisonment. Instead rally was sentenced to life in the tower of london. He spent the next thirteen years in prison in the tower but honestly this was a pretty luxurious incarceration. He had a large apartment suite with live in servants and a laboratory and a library and daily visits from his wife and their son. Walter who had been born in fifteen ninety three they had a second son in sixteen o five while rally was still incarcerated and the rest of the family moved. Ncaa home on tower hill to be closer to the incarcerated walter and make it easier for all these daily visits to happen. Rally spent a lot of this time writing while in the tower. He wrote a morality book for boys called instructions to his son and he also wrote the history of the world which started with creation and went to the second macedonian war in one forty-six bc. He dedicated it to james's son henry who he also tutored. While imprisoned henry advocated for rallies release but died in sixteen twelve before he had secured it this this history of the world was five volumes. Something like a million words long and was clearly meant to be the first in a series that was going to then go on to cover the rest of the history of the world after one forty six finally in sixteen sixteen rally convinced king james to let him out of prison james needed money and raleigh made it sound like he could locate riches in south america based on his previous voyage along the orinoco river. He was given leave to do this on one condition that he not attacks pain. In any way the anglo spanish war was finally over and james did not want to do anything to.

"To the time of day the consequence is that entitle analysis when we come to the solar tides we cannot know how much of the analyzed result is due to attraction and how much to heating effect directly or indirectly whether on water or on air or on water as affected by air as to the lunar tides. We are quite sure of them. They are gravitational and nothing but gravitational. But i hope to speak later of the supposed relation of the moon to the weather and the relation that has to the tights. I have defined the tides as motions of water on the earth due to the attractions of the son and of the moon. How are we to find out whether an observed motion of the water is tied is not tied as thus defined only by the combination of theory and observation. If these afford sufficient reason for believing that the motion is due to attraction of the sun or the moon or of both then we must call it a tied. It is curious to look back on the knowledge of the tides possessed in ancient times and to find as early as two hundred years before the christian era of very clear account given of the tights kadi's but the romans generally knowing only the mediterranean had not much clear knowledge of the tights at a much later time than that. We hear from the ancient greek writers and explorers posidonas bio and others that in certain remote parts of the world in fully in britain in gaul and on the distant coast of spain their emotions of the see a rising and falling of the water which depended in some way on the moon. Julius caesar came to know something about it. But it is certain. The roman admiralty did not supply julius caesar's captains with tide tables and he sailed from the mediterranean with his expeditionary force destined to put down anarchy in britain he says referring to the fourth day after his first landing in britain that night it happened to be full moon which time is accustomed to give the greatest risings of water in the ocean..

It's throughout underneath hard feet. We both fell face on something. Probably a call. Maybe for i was wearing cowboy boots you agree There's a remind me. There's another struggling this case where people fall to the ground and the other person gets injured. Do you know what i'm referring to now is not what you said happened to morris black you said you struggle you fell to the ground i wanna clarify. Is it a possibility that maybe more assists head ran into the bullet from your gun. Kinda like peter schwartz is face ran into your foot. Is that maybe what happened at another point. In the day lewin asked durst seemingly innocuous questions about kathy durst applications to med school. It quickly became clear. That lewis questions threaten to unravel durst prior testimony that kathy applied to many lower tier schools and was only accepted to albert einstein due to durst family connections mr jurors. Correct tumor three show. You this document this is your wife kathie durst. This is from an item evidence. It's already been stipulated for admission. And this talks about the courses at she took. Yes i do well mr durst look. Would you agree that as an example. Harvard and yale are probably the two biggest name colleges in the united states. Well so my question is in answer. You made it sound. As if kathy couldn't get anywhere that she applied to a bunch of second rate schools and the only school that took her was einstein. Because your dad got in there do you think that that testimony is a fair representation of what actually happened stint. So again my question to you is mr durst. Do you think that your characterization previously your testimony the kathie durst applied all those schools and the only one she got into was einstein and that it was the first or second best medical school that she applied to. Do you think that that is a fair characterization. Following up on the theme of durst alleged domination of his wife. John lewis and continued to cross. Can you tell me how the statement well if you keep the baby. You're going to get divorced from me period. Can you tell me how that's not contentious. I don't remember being content. You you also testified. You said that once it was done it was done correct. And what you meant by that. That was in response to mr journal. Asking you was that very contentious part of your relationship or was it not and when you answer will once it was done. It was done what you were saying. Was that basically. It was not a contentious party relationship. That kathy accepted what you had told her to do. And that you both moved on. Is that correct. Stone isn't though. "And how qualifying has been his arch nemesis this season. I think there's only two races all year long that he started inside the top ten and watching once again. What he did in this race is just just reinforcement that. If brad bender could just simply figure out how to qualify well he would likely be doing the same exact things. We've seen out of miguel lavera before the break and miguel by the way was injured in this one. That's why he was really not that great all weekend long and brad proved it again. Today i mean he started sixteenth and he was ninth as late as lap. Sixteen in this race. And then he just comes blazing through the field in the final third getting by bo takenaka gami and johann zarco in the final few corners of the last lap to get an incredibly impressive fourth place. Finish after starting sixteen. They just need to figure out how to get him. On the first three rows of the grid and brad bender could make some big big waves over the second. Half of the season. Never talking nakagomi. Well i don't know maybe he's feeling a little bit of that. Pressure from iowa is increasingly more impressive performances. Emoto too but one way or the other taco was motivated and he was looking a lot more like he did in twenty twenty in this race then has so far in twenty twenty one and getting roughed up a bit by bender at the end was really his low misstep and talk a finally gets back into the top five for the first time since he res- was a really good race for him on the other end of the spectrum. I wanna talk about three writers who did little to help their chances on sunday. And they all happen to be on do kadi's starting with johann zarco who actually had a decent race and he was in a really good spot when jack miller went out to at least only finish one spot behind fabio quattro in this one but then he let to riders. Get by him in those final few corners on the last lap going from fourth to sixth. And you just you can't. You can't do that if you want to be in the championship against a guy who's been as fast as fabio quarrel has been all season long. You can't make those mistakes especially when you're chasing writer in the championship if you've got the buffer. Well okay you lost a couple of points. Come back the next day. You can kind of fix it. But here's arco is a good distance behind. He needs every single point he can get in those situations. You have to find a way to stay in front of two riders who you are better than and i know that's arguable. But based on the results we've seen the season zarko should have been able to best takenaka gami and brad bender instead. He lost out the both of them. That's really really bad way for him to end the race for petco back niamh. I mean when this first started before the red flag. He looked like he was going to be a contender and then he was simply flat in the second race. He never got anything going it all and he finished eleventh doing himself no favors. And then jack miller ma'am after leading the race early and then falling out of the podium spots. Jack was in the middle of a late race. Push to get by fabio coiro. Get back on the podium. Make up some points in the championship as well which would have been huge for himself. Amber johns arco too. Because it would have taken a couple of points away from coiro. And i really don't think showing mir would minded. That's so much either. But then he lost the front end in the stadium section with ten laps to go trying desperately to match the corner speed of the aha instead of being patient and relying on the dakotas real strength which was sectors one two and four. Don't try make it all happen in three if you don't got it in three right and instead of maybe getting on the podium or at least finishing fourth he missed out on at least thirteen points. Maybe even sixteen and because of that. He's now over seventy points out in the championship. He is perilously close to having his title. Bid for twenty twenty one come to an end as well before we finish up on the qadis by the way how about the droese finishing tenth in this race he got the last spot based on a track limits and fracture but still top ten for a guy who hasn't racing a couple of years. I think that's a good day. All things considered becoming background to. It wasn't a good day for them. Obviously they didn't accomplish what they set out to and yet she still had a smile on his face at the end of the day. Why is that well. Because i'm pretty damn sure. He was looking up at martine on the top. Step of that podium and thinking there's next factory rider that's the guy i'm going to go. Try to win a championship with if these other guys aren't going to step up for me. Because if mirrored one or even if somebody like johann zarco have one he was going to be pretty darn upset that his factory guys didn't step up to the challenge. But instead i think he was seeing the future up there and thinking you know what maybe not this year but maybe next year or the year after that because i got somebody. I can really really work with here so on the podium whore. Hey martine his first victory pray mac qadis first victory in modo. Gp and a fantastic display of talent from future contender show. Amir was second the ride height device and the result that came with it. I think definitely gives mir and suzuki a ton of forward momentum them running at the podium fabio quarrel he just keeps on going and this is just like a win for him in a champion like effort as well and in that championship while fabio of course still leads the way and he actually has a bigger lead believe it or not when he showed up in austria which is huge the margin now stands at forty points after johann arcos last lap. Struggles mirror gets couple back. He's now fifty one out while disappointing efforts for both factory riders. Lee petco back. Nine of fifty eight points. Back in jack. Miller wapping seventy two behind some more and more this fabio quattro arrows championship to lose..

brad bender johann zarco miguel lavera bo takenaka gami nakagomi jack miller kadi fabio quattro fabio quarrel arco zarko takenaka gami Emoto fabio coiro Amber johns coiro miguel bender brad niamh

"See just not holding my breath for that at this point moving on mr said. Hey with the news. That coty is going to have eight bikes on the grid in two thousand twenty two. He was kind of wondering why why that situation is coming about not necessarily what is do. Kati want to have that many bikes. There are plenty of reasons for them to want to have that. Many bikes mean not only. Is it. good marketing to be able to point to so many of the top riders in the world. And say they ride into kati but it also gives them a better overall shot in the constructors standings because they have eight chances to have the highest finishing bike on the grid as opposed to to suzuki and two for provia and four for the other manufacturers it also gives them a little bit of an edge when it comes to strategy especially late season strategy in a push for the championship because with eight riders on the grid you have more opportunities to push the other competing riders down further in the points in a given race and most importantly it lets them cast a really wide net in terms of finding and keeping riders the best riders and giving them a place to develop to eventually move up to pray mac and then maybe even to the factory team so there are plenty of reasons. Why do kadi is super cool with having eight bikes on the great. But that wasn't what mr t. Was talking about what he meant is why does do coty have to have that. Many satellite bikes mean. What's up with zucchini. What's up with a brilliant. They have none. And that's why do kati finds himself in a situation where they could take on eight satellite bikes. And that's a good question. Why suzuki especially still doesn't have a satellite team. But even why doesn't have one. I'm and it's difficult question to answer as well Apparently award reportedly trying to get a deal done with rossini. And i believe that they genuinely were and i think that racing armchair mention this the uncertainty of current. Your bike availability. Made that deal very difficult. Because if you're pristinely and you're having a discussion with really over here and do khadi over there and they're both offering you a one year old bike when you have to make that decision between a twenty twenty one in twenty twenty one do cody. You're probably gonna want the better performing bike if the rest of the deal is very similar or the same so yeah i believe if apparently have been able to come up with a current year bike. A twenty twenty two bike seeing how rapidly. They've improved over. The last few seasons cruciani probably would have gone with them. But if i'm deciding between the two thousand twenty one and twenty twenty one coty as impressive as a probably has been and with the strikes. They've made their still nowhere. Near what do qadis been able to do with jack miller and petco bag johann zarco. I would much rather have those bikes. Then what allies should grow and lorenzo salvatori are riding right now on and let's also not forget here. That as part of this deal with do christine is taking on bass giannini. Who's contracted directly to do khadi so in addition to getting bikes. That are better performing out of the box. There's also a big savings in both salary and support taking on that factory backed rider which is something they would not have gotten from appropriate so it was probably a better deal and faster bikes as well. And so that's very likely why appropriate doesn't have a satellite organization because they simply couldn't offer a package deal as good as what do cardi was offering to christina me. Now when it comes. Suzuki they say and i think we talked about this on last week. Show but they say that their latest abandoned attempt at starting a satellite program is not a direct result of the departure of daviel. But i certainly think it has something to do with the situation. I mean even up to just before the time that he laughed. Brivio said that not only but this is key. Engineers felt the organization needed more data from more riders to help move the program forward competitively and that meant teams satellite riders engineers working on those bikes but then brivio left and i think that not only was the organization hesitant to move forward at that point because they knew they were up against a challenge and filling davi shoes. But i really think that brivio is departure gave the accountants and being counters. That suzuki kind of a reason to bail on the idea. Because those guys not really wanting to spend the type of money that you got to commit to two more mo- gp probably said. Hey with the pandemic situation. We're bringing less money in so why not save right. Now we can explore the slater and they may have even said why should we even think about a satellite program and after all we won a championship without spending all of that extra money and i could absolutely see some executives at suzuki saying that not really fully understanding the circumstances in how brivio enjoy amir were able to take advantage of that situation last year to bring them a championship and without brivio there to say. Hey you guys have to understand that. We were opportunistic in twenty twenty. If we want to continue what we're doing right now we have to up the game heading into twenty twenty two and beyond. He's not there the say that. So instead suzuki is i'm sure having this conversation with shinichi sahara and all of the other internal people and i don't think that the people lower down the food chain suzuki who worked for the company directly are gonna necessarily go against what the people at the top levels of suzuki are saying where brivio didn't care because brivio was brought in specifically to run motor not to be an integral part of suzuki's operation. If that makes sense and so. I'm sure that he was way more likely to step up. And say if you guys wanna win you gotta do. Abc where the committee. That's running this as a commodity program right now might not be that willing to say it and so i think that brivio leaving combined with less money coming in from the pandemic definitely created the situation where suzuki could kind of shy away from spending that extra money if some of the being counters weren't ready to do it and if that's the case and i don't know for sure i'm just guessing on all of that but if it is then that just highlights the difference between suzuki and duke. Odium race onto hit on this for do coty. Replacing is the top priority of the company for suzuki. Sales are the top priority. And there's nothing wrong with that but it drives decisions at critical points where things can go one way or the other and that's evidenced by what we're talking about right now.

"A great writer like maverick can get them on the podium in short order but winning and getting more wins them. What he's used to getting on the yamaha that's going to take work and being a legit championship. Contender is gonna take a lot of work and it could take a fair amount of time to now if we look at it from the cadi perspective. The performance is going to be there right out of the box. That's faster bike than the probably right. Now they're making strides all the time but it is a satellite team that he would be racing for and in the end. Do kadi is always going to give preference to the factory. Riders as mapping eight can tell you any day of the week So one option is going to be behind on performance the other behind on prestige and preference the two main hanging points that he has right now with yamaha he feels that the performance is inconsistent. And that they're not treating him like a number one rider. Well he could go to appropriate. He could go to kathi. He's only gonna get one of those things probably is definitely going to treat him like the clear number one. You're going to be super happy to have him there but they can't give him a bike that's better than the omaha do- coty may be able to give him a bike. That's the equal of or sometimes better than the omaha. But if the jack miller and eat the nilo petrucci he ain't going to be number one and so that's why i go back to my initial statement lot of weather. This is the right. Move for maverick. And whether it's actually going to make him happier all depends on his expectations. If maverick's main goal is to be the number one is to have the team build the bike around him as opposed asking him to adjust to the bike and by the way his dad maverick fan. Y'all is his dad. Did an interview this week. And he said that is the only reason in his estimation. Why maverick is leaving yamaha. Not because he doesn't want to be on that bike but because he feels that the team isn't taking his opinion seriously and isn't molding the bike to his capabilities. And that's what he wants and if that is his main goal then for sure then y'all is could be happy at a pro and over on facebook. Andreas made a comment that he thinks that that feeling of being that number one rider in having the manufacturer mold the bike around. You just like honda with marc marquez. He thinks that's really what's behind. A lot of mavericks very public very vocal complaints with the bike. And that he's doing that not so much because he thinks there's some magic thing that yamaha's withholding from him that they're giving the fabio but more they aren't acting on his opinions and i can believe that a good part of his jabs at the engineers and the bike are a bit of projecting of his emotional state not being that number one in feeling insecure about that. But let's face it. Even if maverick's father is being genuine and saying that his priority is the feeling is the relationship with the team when it comes down to it. Performance is really always the top priority for everyone emoji p. for riders for teams for manufacturers. Because let's face it. If maverick didn't feel coddled by yamaha but he was winning six races a year and grabbing twelve or fourteen podiums. He wouldn't be looking around at other options. He wouldn't be having press conferences where he said. He made a huge mistake re-signing and he wouldn't be saying he felt disrespected by the team. Even if they were blatantly disrespecting him to his face if he was winning ten races a year he wouldn't care about that. Okay maybe my care about a little bit but not enough to leave if he was women championships man. I mean if he won the past three championships then he could have had a spat with lynn jarvis. And it's not gonna change anything. He's coming back next week. He's getting on the bike and he's going to go out there and try to win because he knows he can win so no matter what. His top priority is as far as outward. Appearances performance is going to be super high on the list to and a lack of it is going to increase his frustration level. And it doesn't matter where he goes any new team. It's going to be tough for him at first and not. Just if he's going to aprilia or if he's going to a satellite team he could be going straight to honda. Where marquez is dominated in one zillion championships and it could still be tough. I just ask who. He'll lorenzo asked police boggle about that and it might take a while before he gets to the level where he wants to be especially with an incomer or developing organization like apprecia-. And you know it's possible that if he doesn't have the patience for that and performance was really the big thing nagging him at yamaha. Well a couple of years are in short order down the line. That another relationship could tailspin as a result. Now i tend to think that the feeling of being wanted to being the number one rider. I tend to think that is his main concern right now. But how long before. Performance is gonna take center stage if he's not competing for championships if he's not competing for wins or maybe even not competing for podiums and with that in mind. I think that dj over them read it some that very very well mavericks whole emotional mental state going through this time. I am one sentence which cracked me up by the way he said quote whatever. The future holds for maverick. I'm sure it will be maverick in nature and it really feels that way doesn't it. I mean maverick is rapidly becoming the new. Hey lorenzo where. His own unique brand of controversy seems to follow him around wherever he goes. And you know i think. The dj was referring just as much to his approach to his team and racing. Which pretty much boils down to an excellent plan and execution in practice and qualifying and then when that works really well he then try to translate that directly to the race without really accounting for or adjusting to any of the variables. That might come up if i said what you were really thinking. They're dj and if that really is the case that wherever he goes. It's gonna be very maverick in nature. Then not a parent that that approach to racing is going to change simply because the color is on his leathers are different. And i think that's what. Dj's point pretty much was and tom was on the same page over on facebook. Thinking that mavericks best move isn't necessarily to another team but maybe to sports psychologist to maybe get out of his own way a little bit..

Ann Beattie Reads Mavis Gallant

"Hi Anne Hi Deborah so you mentioned for me that you read the story for the first time last summer how did you come across it then. I'm Visiting writer at the University of Virginia this fall and I have to give to public talks and I was pulling books off of my shelf just looking for different examples. Awesome things that I wanted to mention in those talks and I pulled down the best American short stories of the eighties which was edited by Shannon. Ravenhill and I thought. Oh if I've never heard of this Mavis askelon story. It just blew me away. I mean I just loved it I WANNA do nothing. But think about this Mavis gallant store. What was it about the story that surprised you well? I could answer that in a lot of ways. I think but the way that she moves through time you know. I think I think that the liberty she takes with those leaps and it's happening all over the place I mean she. She works like a dragonfly or something. She's really amazing. uh-huh had you been a fan of Mavis glance work before that I am but you know I don't know it anywhere near as well as I should I find such immediacy. See in her writing that I always like it. I don't know why I love this quite as much as I love it. I really found this an incredibly startling story the visuals I think part rid of it. The the imagery of it. Yeah the imagery of it It's it's set Or as written unpublished more than thirty years ago. I think on the eve. Steve of the nineteen ninety-one French presidential elections. Does it feel to you so it belongs to a different era or does it feel completely undated. I did I noticed the politics of it. You know but it. I didn't know that I didn't know what you just told me. And I think that's very interesting but it didn't really seem to be an an enormous factor except to make this very believable in terms of the kind of conversation that was held. And you know the way galant tells you people's opinions the we'll we'll talk some more after the story and now here's an beady Reading Day Day by Mavis Gallant Day. Pascal Breuer a is fourteen now he used to attend a lycee but after his parents found out about the dealers in the street outside the gates they changed to a private school here. The situation is about the same but he hasn't said so he does not want to be removed again. This time perhaps perhaps to a boarding establishment away from Paris with nothing decent to eat and lights out at ten. He would not describe himself as contriving or secretive. He tries to avoid drawing attention to the responsibility clause in the treaty that governs peace between generations like his father the magistrate he will offer neutrality before launching into descend. I'm ready to admit he will begin or I don't want to take over the whole conversation. Sometimes the sentence comes to nothing like his father. He lets his eyelids. Droop tries to speak it lightly and slowly. The magistrate is famous for fading out of discussion by slow degrees at one time he was said to be the youngest magistrate. It ever to fall asleep in court. He would black out when he thought he wasn't needed and snap to justice. The case turned around. Apparently he never missed S. churning. He has described his own mind to Pascal. It is like a superlatively smooth car with an invisible driver in control. All the driver is the magistrates unconscious. Will to Paschal a mind is a door ajar or shut. His grades. Rates are good but this side of brilliant. He has a natural gift a precise perfectly etched. Memory how will he use it. He thinks think cicadas easily. Become an actor as a lawyer when he tells his parents so they seem not to mind he could turn into an actor manager with the private the theater of his own or the director of one of the great national theaters. Commissioning new work refurbishing the classics settling questions at issue. With a word or two. The brewers are tolerant parents. Ready for anything. They met for the first time in May of nineteen sixty sixty eight a few yards away from a barricade of burning cars. She had a stone in her hand when she saw him looking at her. She put it down on. They walked up the boulevard. Sam Michel together and he told her his plan for reforming the judiciary. He was a bit older about twenty six six answering his question. She said she was from all sauce. He reminded her how the poet Paul Awad had picked up his future. Wife David the street on a rainy evening. She was from all sauce to and starving and in a desperate muddled amateurish way pretending to be a prostitute. Well this was not quite the same story in nineteen sixty eight. The Future Madam. blu-ray was studying to be an analyst analysts handwriting with employment to follow so she had been promised in the personnel section of a large department store. In the meantime she was staying with the Protestant reformed church pastor and his family in rufous. Still Do Kuan Sh. She had been on her way home to dinner when she stopped up to pick up the stone she had a mother in all sauce and a little brother on me day day day Sylvia and I have known both with sides of the barricades. The magistrate likes to say now what he means is that they cannot be crowded into a political corner. The stone own in the hand has made a rebel. At least in his recollections. She never look at a newspaper because of her reputation for being against absolutely everything so he says but perhaps it isn't exact. She looks at the pages mart culture to see what is on the galleries. He reads three morning papers tapers at breakfast and if he has time lest evenings lemonde reading he narrows his eyes sometimes he looks as though everything he thinks and believes had been translated into a foreign language and suddenly back again when Pascal was about nine his father said what do you suppose you will do one day. They were at breakfast. Pascal's Uncle Day. was there like everyone else. What's Pascal called Him Day Day? Pascal looked across at him and said I want to be a bachelor like day day. His mother moaned. Oh no and covered overturn face. The magistrate waited until she had recovered before speaking. She looked up smiling. Bit embarrassed then he explained and slowly and carefully. The day was too young to be considered a bachelor. He was a student a youth a student a student. He repeated thinking perhaps that if he kept saying it day would study hard. Data had a button of knows that looked ridiculous on someone so tall will and a massive curly fair hair because of the hair the magistrate could not take him seriously his private name for day was Harpo Harpo that period of POSCO's life nine rounding ten was also the autumn before an important election year. She said it's ready though. That was not what am brew a had asked her to say at least not that way. The guests got up without haste. His sister wish he wouldn't. The smile gave his brother-in-law another the reason for calling him Harpo sitting down he seemed to become entwined with this chair. He was too tall ever to be comfortable. He needed larger chairs tables that were both higher and wider so that he would not bump his knees or put his feet on the shoes of the lady sitting opposite Pascal. Father Father just said so no Marm Ellen. It was something he particularly liked and there might be none now until that summer. If data had asked his opinion instead of jumping up so impulsively he might of said. Just leave it and take a chance on getting stung. Well no more for anyone. The guests sat a little straighter waiting for the next course beef veal or mutton or the possibility of Duck Pascal's mother asked him to shut the French doors.
