Are the Rittenhouse Prosecutors Really Dumb or Really Bad?

"Obviously we're all still waiting for a verdict in the rittenhouse case No no news I have nothing new to report We discussed in the beginning of the show and then in the second hour with a terrific guest the great Leo Terrell is a also a host on KABC one of our favorite radio stations one of our blowtorch stations out in Los Angeles We're always happy to be on there Leo's on there too But Leo came on We were talking about all the prosecutorial either miss feasts or malfeasance I don't know what it is The prosecutor and the written house cases he just really dumb or just really bad And the answer is I don't know Possibly a blend of both I mean between implying that the invocation of the Fifth Amendment right to remain silent is somehow an indication of guilt which is law school one O one orientation stuff It is not an indication of anything You have the right to remain silent A lot of people take advantage of it for all kinds of reasons because if you read your Miranda rights anything you say can and will be used against you So most people say well I'm not saying any of this mean they're guilty The prosecutor in the written House case apparently didn't know that Not measuring the barrel of the rifle yet charging him with a short barreled rifle possession charged despite not measuring that darn rifle is another one of those things that makes you shake your head And then yesterday sending over a video of substandard quality to the defense attorney while keeping a high resolution copy of the video for yourself and then blaming an air drop malfunction because the defense attorney had an Android rather than an iPhone is just I mean clown car stuff It's a case where the kid's life is at stake So we're gonna keep our eyes on that But again no new news to report

California's 'Surf City USA' beach reopens after oil spill

"Surfers and swimmers have returned to the weights at southern California's Huntington beach a little more than a week after an oil pipeline leak off shore the re opening of what many call surf city USA came far sooner than many expected that's the spill became apparent a few troops Mel blanketed the coast and blobs of crude began washing ashore but officials say water quality tests now show no detectable levels of oil associated toxins and Avan ados E. with the California department of fish and game tells KABC they have not found a lot of oiled birds there's not a lot of bird population out there right now so in that respect we got lucky right it could be a different kind of hearing you might have ten thousand birds out there that's for the tar balls I dont see says they're not looking for the public's help we get it right you want the oil off just as fast if not faster than we do but oil is a hazardous substance while the environmental impact on wetland habitats has been less severe than initially feared advocates say they remain concerned about the long term impact I'm Ben Thomas

AXS to Deploy Biometric Amazon One Palm Readers at Entertainment Venues

"This is part of the show where I'd like to talk about future tech. Can it tell you what's going on? So I'm sure you've heard about the payment system called Amazon, one that allows you to buy things in stores where you just wave your hand over a scanner. It's pretty simple. You hold the palm of your hand with two inches above a biometric reader. And then what's the system verifies your ID? It charges the payment card that you have on file for whatever you're buying. And so you don't have any more checkout lines being using some Amazon whole foods stores. It's expanded. But it's expanding to this. Why bring it up to you? Stadiums and arenas? That's right. Um, no more tickets to get inside concerts or sporting events. Amazon's taking over everything, aren't they? You just scan the palm of your hand. It's being used for a company called Excess in Denver, Colorado at one of the kiosk at the Red Rocks and theater. Anyone coming to an event can enroll one or both. Palms just takes a minute and then you can just scan your palm at a reader to enter. Um, the Amazon. One system could they say, create a unique pump signature? All that other stuff, But Big Tech already knows a lot about us. I know a lot of people are worried about this, but the palm print is just one more thing. You know, Palm lines tell a lot about you. But your browser history? Mm says everything.

Rescue Efforts Underway After Deadly Haiti Earthquake

"1300 people are dead. After a 7.2 magnitude earthquake rocked Haiti over the weekend this morning. Search crews are scrambling to find any possible survivors. As the area gets ready for potentially strong storms. K two a five Salina boat and joining us now live with the latest Alina. Good morning. Chris Megan. Good morning. As you can imagine, the Haitian government has declared a state of emergency and as you just mentioned 1300 people are dead and 5700 people are injured. Uh, yeah. This is a look at the recovery efforts. Now excavators are being used to pull the heavy concrete off a very devastating sight. As you see, being zoo see people being pulled From the rubble. This was a 7.2 magnitude quake that struck Saturday morning and has destroyed more than 13,000 homes and destroyed equally as many the destruction has pushed hospitals to the brink and most roads that would typically carry vital supplies is blocked. "Ninety KABC well this is the Ben Shapiro show so big story of the day New York times has now fired its opinion editor it is this an amazing amazing thing it's truly incredible the the complete collapse of American journalism in real time discussion to watch the hands the woke brigade so for for decades there is the assumption that the media were there to provide quality reporting and also the op ed pages were there to provide a wide variety of opinions and sure the reason Overton window either one fine **** writing for your op ed page but if you were to say something to fifty eight percent of Americans agreed with and there's a long history of doing state road not bad about how if local authorities could not handle right including the fed should be called in which is exactly what senator Tom cotton wrote the Republican from Arkansas at the behest of The New York Times editor yeah that would be perfectly acceptable now it is not acceptable it has been deemed unacceptable why was it acceptable unacceptable because he woke staffers at The New York Times complained it was dangerous transaction up at now you're gonna have to explain me why it is dangerous to suggest that if you can get writing including under control you call in the feds why is it dangerous to whom is that dangerous they said it was dangerous to black New York times staffers why would black we are ten staffers riding and looting if they were less criminal activity they probably shouldn't be working for the gray lady yeah but they they literally fired their op ed editor for having run a piece from a sitting senator that fifty eight percent of Americans agree upon data here's the story from The New York Times it's an astonishing revelation because they've now basically endorsed the idea that they are slight our salon dot com I can open left wing publication they're no longer going to pretend reporting is going to be infused with the joy of leftist aggression and their op ed page is just going to become an open weapon and have less so in a way I'm kind of grateful because we all knew this within your times was anyway but now the universities have been captured by the radicals this this is very reminiscent of the nineteen sixties when you have students on college campuses we have a bunch of communist and anarchist would basically take over a college dean's office instead of the team calling the cops and get these kids the hell out of here he would say what can I do for you well you can you can declare as adversity requirement okay I'll do whatever you want and professors would resign I didn't this is never come to America's newsroom so well done everybody according to The New York Times James Bennett resigned on Sunday from his job as the editorial page editor of The New York Times days after the newspaper's opinion section which he oversaw published a much criticised op ed by US senator calling for a military response to civic unrest in American cities no no by the way New York times had to correct the speech the original phraseology of this piece suggested that senator cotton called for a military response to protests in American cities he explicitly did not call for a military response to protests he called for a military response to looting and rioting but they had to change the story they pretend that the that the actual OB I was calling for protesters to be shot so they could argue for why it was wrong from the op that right to the York times like that in your times editorial process which in turn was lying about senator Tom cotton it's unbelievable AG Sulzberger pencils by the publisher said last week we saw significant breakdown in our editing process he's not the first we've experienced in recent years in a brief interview souls were added both of us concluded that James would not be able to lead the team for the next leg of change that is required what is the next leg of change an excellent of change I kid you not is the new York times telling people if they have an objection to on an op ed if they're offended by now but they should let the op ed editor now so now the woke staffers get to actually edit the paper it's taking over the news were taken over the entire editorial page and they banned basically anyone they do not like in the name of freedom in the name of free speech genius and also a virtual meeting on Friday Bennett fifty four apologized for the op ed saying it should not have been published and it had not been edited carefully enough in enters no public posted late Friday noted factual inaccuracies there were none and a needlessly harsh tone needlessly harsh tone your time has literally been calling center cotton a terrorist it is he wants to murder American civilians and needlessly harsh tone of the checks their op ed page every other day calling from Hitler needlessly harsh tone the op ed I senator Tom cotton of Arkansas I had sent in the troops as headline it said one thing above all else will restore to our streets an overwhelming show of force to disperse detain ultimately deter lawbreakers the piece drew anger from readers and times journalist Mr Bennett to swift fall from one of the most powerful positions in American journalism comes hundreds of thousands of people have marched in recent weeks in protest of racism in law enforcement and society the protests were set in motion when George Boyd a black man in Minneapolis died last week after being handcuffed and pinned to the ground by white police officers me the firm has reached other newsrooms to on Saturday night stand which which now ski resigned as top editor of The Philadelphia Inquirer so why okay which now see by the way that is an amazing story it's got to Philadelphia Inquirer you spent twenty one years there is dramatically diversified the newsroom in terms of race his increase the number of black and Hispanic people working in the newsrooms dramatically dramatically it was a minority representation to twenty seven percent of the editorial workforce that's a doubling in the last four years Hey what happened but he's also wrong spelling out the Enquirer editor he published a piece with the headline buildings matter to this is not just the black lives do not matter this is just that when you burn building is a bad thing he was forced out they fired him he stepped down as senior vice president and executive editor why because they're big zoom session people were mad people were very mad rule according to The Philadelphia Inquirer the session turned intense and emotional some journalists could be seen in two years and there's no friends all their crying on soon shutdown fell down people crying on zoom well my can present him every day during school doesn't mean they shut down the school critics black and white denounced the pace of change in the paper sharply criticising both coverage and racial and gender mix of the staff several journalists pointed out the newspaper could only muster one male black reporters who covered the protests and police response involving a city that is majority minority so you so we are going to decide who is the best reporter based on race sounds great hours after the wrenches in session about fifty journalists of color signed an open letter calling for faster change the paper the following day most of minority staff to day off from work in protest to literally didn't come in because they ran an article called buildings matter to they didn't come in you know what happened if we ran an editorial that I approved and then our staffers income that exceeds their offended it would all be on the front lines the next day all the unemployment I would fire all of them you cannot run a business where your staff we're pulling the staff it's insane it's insane again this guy was a liberal he increased the minority representation the beverage twenty seven percent which is pretty good because I'll be I'll be Frank with you if you look at and if you talk to people at it a lot of these newspapers they're seeking desperately minority reporters and journalists and they're not getting the surfeit of applications that they're seeking this guy was ousted because if people were crying on soon decided not to come into work which should be a fireable offense get back to the New York times during Mr Bennett's first year on the job two times national security reporter is publicly objected to an op ed by Louise mensch we sent her own reporting on U. S. law enforcement reported minority my purported monitoring of the trump presidential campaign times reporters who covered the same story were skeptical of her claim well some people didn't like some of the stories around over the course of many many years and it worked in healthcare jobs in the times newsroom nineteen ninety one until two thousand sixteen he was considered a possible successor to deem the cat who is running the newsroom for six years obviously he's very bad by the way this has the brother Michael Bennett was the U. S. senator from Colorado in a note to the opinion staff on Sunday the the person who's taking over him Katie Kingsbury declined it should come in for the article she said that eight until a more technical solution is in place what is a direct quote right for this any piece of opinion journalism including headlines or social posts or photos you name it it gives you the slightest pause please call or text me immediately the the editorial page editor is saying to the entire staff if an operator gives you the slightest pause contact me and we'll talk about taking it down insane insane I mean not unpredictable I'm really enjoying the Tom cotton's piece was not well fact technical Hannah Jones at sixteen nineteen project Pulitzer Prize winning essay was riddled with errors and four separate Pulitzer Prize winners came out and said was garbage there's no call Hannah Jones explaining that fact check it we we can just run anything we can't just run anything everything has to be deeply fact checked except my pieces that are just full of crap there's a call Hannah Jones who is the new editor of the paper said graduations according to Johns we do absolutely believe that his views should be air that is necessary that we know that someone with this power things this way but that's a different thing altogether than simply allowing someone to say things that are not true to make assertions that might be unconstitutional without a check many of us journalists said they should have just been a news article where his views were aired but in a way that was factual because we know we are struggling with Americans getting this information and our role as journalists is to give people correct information so they can make decisions yes that is her role as a journalist as you correct information information like violence is not burning down a building and also the second man was created to keep black people down and also seventeen seventy six was fine preserve slavery all of which is crap and all that she's written well amazing fact checking going on over the near times the I mean they're they're coming out of the closet now with regard to what exactly this newspaper is for so there's a piece bye bye Ben Smith over the new York times talking about the shift away from the news put simply editorial coverage and he cites the case of Wesley Lowery Wesley Lowery is a guy who basically was tweeting activism from Ferguson Missouri in the middle of the Ferguson protests so it here's a piece from Ben Smith Wesley Lowery woke up in Ferguson Missouri on August fourteenth two thousand fourteen his cheeks sore for a police officer and smashed into a vending machine is wondering how to get a shoe laces back in was boat shoes after the police took them when tossing in a holding cell the night before around eight thirty that morning he dialed in CNN's morning show where host passed on some advice from.

"KABC so as I say that there's been a complete push on the left for this idea that we need to completely remake the American system because this is pre it's exposing all of the evils of American society which is amazing because basically we now have an on falsifiable thesis from the left if things are going really well it's a mask for all the bad things happening in American society if things are going really poorly and that is exposing all the bad things that are happening in American sites in a matter how you slice it bad things are happening it requires complete remaking of the system Elizabeth Warren senator was pushing this nonsense she she was suggesting that the disparities in health outcomes for black and white women it has to be because health care professionals are racist or something I really did this watch is pushing it she's pushing the the disparities in black maternity mortality statistics I would have been pushed by everybody from Stacey Abrams in your times you got to mention the fact by the way the racial disparities in outcomes in Europe as well which doesn't have the same history as the United States obviously and also neglects to mention that there are pre existing conditions that run concomitant to two races not caused by race but they are but there there's crossover that largely explain black maternal mortality rates being higher namely malnutrition in the in the womb obesity of mothers right these are things that help explain the the disparity in black or black maternal mortality rate okay with all that said Elizabeth Warren making the the common and obvious error of mistaking all inequality for underlying structural inequity now she's living health care professionals this is just at the same time healthcare professionals are putting their lives on the line to save people black white and green she's out there suggesting that our health care system is staffed by people who are inherently racist health care professionals listen do they listen to black women and white it is so important to raise this issue because it's not like somebody deliberately says you know I'm not gonna pay attention yes that is happening and if you don't raise awareness about it and get some accountability in the system too many people several I don't have anything to do with that that's not me okay well what if they don't have anything to do with that it wasn't him I mean my kids again and the the idea is that now you're going to attribute all of the inequalities in the system to current people doing bad things they don't even know they're doing so now we are ghost hunting right now we we we are we are a tricky motives to people they don't have themselves but deep in the recesses of their brain they're still little racist and that is why you're getting these outcomes me strange that that everything amounts to the sick it doesn't matter what the what happens in front of the equal sign is that what your question is in from the equal sign X. plus Y. always equals overthrow American siding completely restructure it it's pretty incredible it really is and and it is all a lot of this is also based on your political expedience a lot of this is based on on the D. ease you believe that your political opponents are evil there are different priorities from you they're actually evils Rachel Maddow trying to try this one out last night she suggested that consumers are operating from earth to when they talk about people going back to work or alternatively they have a different assessment of the risks and benefits of staying out of work as an entire society and that assessment is different from your own and that is called an honest political disagreement according to her it's earth too and consumers want people to die and that this is just it's just claptrap even in times this weird conservative media is like earth to all rights are under the one and they are on a completely different planet in terms of what the news is and what it means to cover it and the conservative media is as influential as they ever were if not more so when it comes to Republican elected officials and conservative voters in the Republican Party base but the conservative media the most influential parts of it really are living in and describing and now promoting a completely different world the one that all the rest of us live on okay you know the one of the one that you live on racial matters when were you are operating from a studio get your salary paid that's the world that you are living on the world the Chris Cuomo's living and that's the world that that everyone is yet and is living in all the members in the it's not live the same lives in the thirty million people are now unemployed they do not live the same lives the small business owners to something like savings into a restaurant to watch it disappear they're not living in the same world as people who actually work living on the bubble and now need to go make a living they're not looking the same world as you this is why you end up with with ridiculous comedian Patton Oswalt tweeting out over the weekend just you know we say that your your sacrifice you know just sit home and watch Netflix no pets no house will consider his mansion watch Netflix they're bunch of people but you don't have a full fridge that's the disconnect and by the way Democrats are just full of it I mean here this is a brutal adds the RNC put out an ad about Nancy Pelosi's I show you a clip the other day I'm Nancy Pelosi standing in front of a very expensive French again I'm all for very expensive bridges but I'm also for people being able to work so they can afford food in their fridge apparently Nancy Pelosi is not for that she's holding up funding for small businesses and she's getting from the fridge talking about stocks with expensive gelato chocolate ice cream and the RNC could this viciously brutal attitude perfectly honest in it it does demonstrate the disconnect that's how on earth do this in a few you don't want to eat up everything.

"Ninety KABC Peter to look for Adams a safety medication analyst a driver's ed dot com which is the leading online driving school and welcome Laura how are you I'm great thanks for having me on the show so really some unsettling info from your twenty eighteen distracted driving in America report first of all tell people or inform people have the report was constructed how you put it together and we got your statistics I was a dot com took a look at or wearing a range of folks we looked it over fourteen hundred respondents a variety of ages income levels demographics geographic location to try to understand what is going on right now with driving behaviors we wanted to put some numbers behind some of the bad habits that we know we're going on and some of the results were expected but some are pretty surprising before before I go to your results there was reported just came out about distracted driving and the states for recreational marijuana was approved and they saw an increase in car accidents now you can't say specifically due to pot but there's consideration it has to be made as far as those three states as a maverick a second parts of four states were part was allowed have all increased in car accidents were how do you address that issue yeah it is an increasing problem we don't really have a good way to detect drivers that are high that's one challenge so I think some people feel like they can get away with it but the reality is that anytime you're impaired behind the wheel you're driving is just not as safe as it could be when you are completely sober so you know whether we're talking about alcohol prescription drugs marijuana I think people need to understand that it's very serious and not only can you be cited with a D. you wire D. W. I. depending on where you live if an officer does suspect that you're driving while high you know it can have some pretty significant consequences not only financially but to your driving record you could have your license suspended the ticket is going to be expensive and your insurance rate will definitely skyrocket if you get one of the series violations and we're in the wild west with this so we don't know yet what the cause and effect is as you said there's no yet there's no way to that's that's across the board way to detect drivers another have experts opposing police forces were trained to determine marijuana and that's expanding but yet there's no there's no device yes to determine and there's no baseline either in any of the markets correct that's right so I I'm sure somebody is working on the technology for this but in the meantime it's something that just really is up to the discretion of the officers you know she said summer train but many are not let's start with the texting what percentage of drivers out there now listening are texting based on your study we found that sixty nine percent of the driver said dot com responded said they are texting while they are the bother behind the wheel it's actually seventy three percent said their reading tax and fifty four percent said they were typing texts so you know I think either one it is is not good we know that if your focus is on your phone and it's not on the road ahead of you a lot can happen I mean even if you're just looking down for a few seconds you're covering a lot of ground particularly if you're going fast if you're going fifty five miles an hour you're covered eighty feet per second so even glancing down to read a text for a couple seconds means that you could cover the length of a football field or the football field and a lot can happen in that span of time so I encourage people to think about that if you are unaware of what's going on during that that large distance that happens over just a few seconds it could be lethal it really could be a situation that you don't want to find yourself and forget I don't know if your study how to how much time when you do look up again how much time it takes to reorient yourself yes absolutely that's another factor you know it's probably another couple seconds just in terms of reaction time so if you're looking up and all the sudden you get cut off by a corner there's a motorcycle that darted out in front of you unless you have incredibly good reflexes it's going to probably take you another set can or to simply to react on so the texting is a problem but what's surprising is that people are doing even more dangerous behavior it's in that setting so let's before he jumped to the wind blew my mind social media which means people checking Facebook Instagram Twitter at center and they're texting back correct number there yes we found eighteen percent of respondents said they were out on social media so you know not only are they looking at their phone but they're engaging in social media so that really distraction you cognitively if you know maybe there's something you're responding to that makes you emotional this is something that's really going to take your your attention and your eyes off of the road and probably your hands off the wheel as well if you were actually typing into a smartphone should mention because of the point between texting social media you have an emotional hit because you're getting a text back from somebody that's a friend or a girlfriend who says I'm not meaning it tonight or I'm leaving you whatever it is or your bosses is texting something about work that creates a negative reaction all of a sudden you're mostly involved in this two which crosses distractions not just the act of texting or the active checking social media it's what your reaction is and then how you process process is that what you're driving absolutely to study after study shows that doing all of these things that we're talking about texting and talking on a a remote device or maybe it's a speaker phone or you got voice commands in your car even using those technologies is still dangerous because cognitively you are unfocused cognitively you're distracted from the task at hand which is driving so don't be fooled into thinking that okay if I'm talking on a speaker phone or find texting V. device in my car that I am safe because you're really not you may have still have hands on the wheel but your brain is not on the road here's the one that got me the number people percentage of people who watch YouTube videos Netflix N. N. are actually watching media watching movies television shows videos while they're driving I agree this was the most shocking part of the driver said dot coms studied to me as well eight percent of respondents said they are watching you two videos while there we all four percent said they're watching Netflix programming while they're driving so I just can't even imagine you know being prepared if something unexpected happens while you're engrossed in you know some type of a Netflix procreate the person is I mean you didn't see the ending of the show last night so I'm just going to drive you know download and look at a long run seventy miles an hour on the freeway that's insane it really is and some people say well you know if I'm stuck in traffic or I'm sitting at a stop light or red light you know I feel okay about pulling out my phone and doing some of these activities but the reality is in many cases it's probably against the law you know in some cases were not supposed to have any of on phones depending on where you live but the problem is that after you began picking up speed you're more likely to have the phone in your hand you're more likely to be continuing that distracting behavior and as you grow your driving faster and faster as we discussed the distraction can become deadly Mar Adam sixteen educationalist driver's ed dot com the website drives at dot com and the Twitter at drivers ed com and I thank you for coming on with this info is mind blowing some of it thanks to my pleasure thank you or talk for you seven ninety KABC dependable traffic still seen some slow traffic in the east LA area sixties about the seven ten earlier car fire's been clear from lanes but still stop ago from Indiana street we have worked so in Redlands on the ten east on it six street emergency repairs has the right lane blocked right now is backed up to your Rica you have to upload and we have a crash working on the same west on before mountain Avenue that's blocking the right lane it has you slow from four streets nurtured port at seven o'clock I'm John gamble AM seven ninety K.
