How to Examine Nietzsche's Work With Dr. Khalil Habib

"Way to really look at nietzsche's works is sort of two categories. He's got some that. I would call. Sort of a wrecking ball approach. They're really designed to clear the deck so to speak younger will be an example. It's a very destructive. Book is primarily focuses on destroying the prejudices of of the Of the philosophers. You know trying to push nationalism out and make way for some new horizon. Zero fish tug would be sort of more of a constructive work. Okay so it necessarily follows his other works and endure deir through strove what he essentially wants. The obermann mentioned simply means the overmanned can be translated as superman but it's it mart Accurately overmanned and the question is over. What and essentially in network over the nihilism that has engulfed europe and so he has this image of a tight rope walker who stretches a wrote across an abyss and he wants to cross it meaning wants to carry civilization over this abyss that he falls and dies doesn't have the spirit necessary to lift europe up and so what so. What the uber. Mitch is designed to invoke or inspire our men who see the problem of modern europe as essentially nihilism. We've we there's nothing meaningful left in man's life anymore. I mean when you think about how pop culture most likely has more influence over most people's lives today than say god or family our country you can see need just point. The three things had historically always been A portal through which human beings can gain some sense of continuity or meaning have been replaced essentially bigest the market and so the overman is designed to connect a link between this world and something over the nihilism of contemporary contemporary europe. "There's this one. Specific video of president bolsonaro from july eighth. Can you just sort of narrate what it shows. Yeah so he actually posts many different facebook live streams and one of them from july eight. I actually counted. He hiccuped fourteen times within his first minute of speaking. You can see him sort of talk. And then he'll sometimes stop or closes is and then just pause shoes moore who he people and then recollect himself and get back to speaking. But i mean it goes on for an hour and the the hiccups don't really stop. That's just one video from one of the ten days that he's been having these persistent hiccups. So do we know what's actually behind ours hiccups. So the thing about hiccups is they can be caused by a lot of different things something as small as eating too fast or even stress or bigger things. That are more serious. Like a tumor. For example he underwent different examinations and they found intestinal obstruction and in a recent tweet. He's tying this incident to an encounter that he had on the twenty eighteen campaign trail where he was actually stabbed in the abdomen. He lost a lot of blood. He suffered a serious wound and afterwards he underwent several operations so he mentioned that again in a tweet and posted a photo of himself shirtless with his eyes closed in a hospital bed wired up with sensors and cables and he tweeted. We'll be back soon. God willing brazil is ours in portuguese and more recently bolsonaro has had other house cares right. Yeah boston bolsonaro has actually gone through. A run of different health scares other than the stabbing incident in two thousand eighteen. He also contracted cova last july after playing down the current virus for months. This wasn't a life threatening. But while he was in quarantine for that cova case he was bitten by this emulate giant bird in the presidential palace. And he's had a stubborn cough since he had covert as well. Where do you stand now with president bolsonaro health so there were initial worries that he would have to undergo some sort of emergency surgical procedure but instead doctors are saying he's going to undergo what is called a conservative treatment with things like medication. A lot of people have been watching bolsonaro during the pandemic brazil has been one of the worst hit nations passing.

"Being outrage And being miss asian women fronting a band and like shoving a mike and newer mao and thinking. Like oh my god lord. This woman is amazing. Also she looks like me and he's on stage. I'm curious how how in your musical career and identity like how you overcame the sense of kind of sticking out your own place own sense of like i got this. Oh i mean. I feel like i'm still experiencing that all the time. I think it's an ever changing experience where you're always looking for your place in the world and i mean it was just something that i loved to do and constantly had to confront feelings of imposter syndrome in doubt and it's an ongoing battle. I think struggling with the feeling you have a new album that came out this summer. Jay believe it's your third album from japanese breakfast at the title is like the exact opposite of crying h mart. Tell me about this new album. What's funny because this album was actually supposed to come out before the book but we pushed a year later because of the pandemic and it. Actually i think makes much more sense having it come out now after crying in h mart because i think for me crying and h mart sort of felt like i had said everything i needed to say about grief and loss the to records that i had before that were also largely about my mother staff and so i felt like i had unpacked everything that needed to be investigated and it was time to move on and the most unexpected thing for me as an artist felt like tackling this album about joy and i think in some way all the songs are about giving myself permission to feel joy after the last six years of grieving and struggling to feel joy again relearning how to experience joy. They're all different ways of interacting with joy. In some way. I think my favorite track on the record.

"I'll cry. When i see a korean grandmother eating seafood noodles in the food court discarding shrimp heads and mussel shells onto the lid of her daughter's ten rice bowl. Her gray hair frizzy cheekbones. Protruding lee the tops of two peaches tattooed eyebrows. Rusting is the ink fades out. Michelle's honor is the lead singer of the band japanese breakfast. She's now also the author of the bestselling memoir crying and h mart. The book talks about michelle's journey through grief when her mother was diagnosed with cancer trips to the asian grocery store h mart became this way for her to explore her connection with her mom and with her korean heritage post reports editor and producer. Alexis de house spoke with michelle about the process of writing her memoir. And what. It means to be an asian american musician and author today. Michelle i have to say first of all congratulations on this book. It is so good. I feel like i've been waiting for a book like this for a very long time. Thank you for putting it into the world. Thank you for reading it and hoping you can read a passage from from the beginning of the book. I wonder what my mom would have. Looked like in her seventies if she'd have wound up with the same perm that every korean grandma gets as though it was a part of our races evolution. I'll imagine our arms linked her small frame leaning against mine. Is we take the escalator up to the food court. The two of us and all black new york style. She'd say her image of new york still rooted in the era of breakfast at tiffany's should carry the quilted leather chanel purse that she'd wanted her whole life and said of the fake ones she bought on the back. Streets of etowah on her hands and face would be slightly sticky from. Qvc anti-aging creams. She'd wear some strange high top sneaker. Wedges that i disagree with michelle in korea every celebrity wears this one. She'd plucked the lint off my coat and pick on me how my shoulders slumped how. I need a new shoes. How i should really start using that argon oil treatment. She bought me. But we'd be together. If i'm being honest there's a lot of anger angry at this old korean woman. I don't know that she gets to live. And my mother does not like somehow. This stranger. survival is at all related to my loss that someone my mother's age could still have a mother. Why is she here. Slurping up spicy jumping noodles and my mom isn't other people must feel this way. Life is unfair and sometimes it helps irrationally. Blame someone for it. I'm curious how did you settle on the name crying and h mart the title game to me pretty early i had started. Probably twenty. fifteen. Was the second christmas without my mother. And i had lunch at the elkins park h mart and i remember starting to feel this way and observed people and envy them and also feel close to them in a way and i just wrote from very honest place about that experience when he wrote this book. I imagine you would have to immerse yourself in a lot of those moments feelings of your experience with fat helpful in your process of grief or was it kind of like retraumatize thing over and over again. I think it was both honestly. It certainly was re traumatizing. But i think personally. There is a part of me that is tempted to poke at. This wound may be to constantly acknowledged that. It's real and i think that sometimes re experiencing that type of agony makes me feel closer to the person that i loved so much makes me recognize how real my affection for this person was and also i mean. I think that one thing that's really incredible about writing a memoir is that you have to really place yourself in everyone that you write about and all of the players involved and i feel in doing so i was able to really understand where the people in my life were coming from better. I was able to forgive them and myself. And it was a really important experience for me a lot of your experience that you write about in your book centers on food as a love language as a way to you know. Take care of your mother but also as a way to connect with her and connect with your culture. How did you decide to put food. And you're learning to cook. Korean food at the center of your of your book and your experience. You know everyone has that sort of connection with their family. There are dishes that are passed down and things that mall makes that no one else does. But i think that there were also a lot of other more complicated reasons why i used food. Is this major vehicle. Because part of it was this almost psychological undoing of the failures that i felt as a caretaker not knowing the dishes my korean mother needed to eat during her illness and there was also this real fear of losing that part of my culture once. My mom died being mixed race and using korean cooking as a way to kind of preserve my connection to my heritage that suddenly felt at risk. I'm curious about if you had conversations when you're writing this book and you're writing about korean food and culture and traditions. If there were conversations about like how much to explain certain things like bunch or.

"Thank once maybe twice a year people from the state would come out to do like an inspection or something. This is terry a former patient at the ana wakey campus in rock mart. The all girls facility. She remembers her time. How the staff would handle visits from state agencies. That were meant to check on the treatment center and how it operated with anna wakey now being a licensed medical facility. It had to be recorded the patients who were getting the proper treatment. They were supposed to and i remember the first time when they came out they picked like three of us. Girls should be the one to answer any questions and so they took the rest of the group like way way out into the woods like a mile out into the woods. And i can remember when the first inspector lady came. One of the group leaders told her. The girls are out on a work project about a mile out in the woods. I guess they just knew that the inspector probably wanting to hike out a mile that we were available though there were like three of us and we were told even before the inspector came if they asked if we met with a psychiatrist to let them know that we did and that we had thirty to forty five minutes sessions at this point in time in a wiki was sold to the parents of its patients largely as a medical treatment center with daily therapy in. And also the only place where you can find a giant vat appeal garlic because it's the only place that truly understands how much garlic you'll need for the kind of food your people eat and before reading this book which i picked up pre publication autumn and the recommendation of a friend. I was unfamiliar was honor and her work. I didn't know anything about her music career that she performs and records under the name japanese breakfast. In fact there are many passages in the book where she refers to her band their gigs their struggles their hopes to work as professional musicians. One day and i was in suspense wondering are they gonna make. I finally googled and felt a little silly. When i learned the answer and soon enough i was listening to more of honor stories about her mother albeit in a different medium from her 2016 sixteen album cycle pump h central the many as honors memories and she finds the simplest things trigger her grief like the ingredients for a recipe. She wishes she could ask her mom about or even the snack aisle at h. mart. Tell you with a straight face what it was like watching my mom's hair fall out in the bathtub or about the five weeks i spent sleeping in hospitals but catch me at h. mart when some kid runs up double fisting plastic sleeves upon tiggy. And i'll just lose it. Zahn herself was just he five. When her mother was diagnosed with late stage stomach cancer she moved back home to eugene oregon to care for her mother. She declined a descent. That was dizzying. -ly abrupt zollner says the onslaught of her symptoms was like something out of a disaster movie as soon as we got a handle on one. "Sometimes business owners only look at it way like. I don't know how to do this. I need somebody who can save me. Time indistinct us off my plate. But i wanna point out that when you have somebody managing your list for you. They don't just set it up. They actually find a lot of missing out on so for example in my favorite things to do is to go into automations touch them up. So very simple example would be Somebody hasn't abandoned cart. Email while i make it abandon car emails so like instead of one or two turns into three to five or in some cases like seven if they go into a particular series. We'll have browse abandons. Some people don't have like some kind of re engagement strategy. Some people don't have tracking set up to know when people are engaged How they should be using list hygiene properly on another thing too is any time for one of my clients any time somebody to a certain products for offer or calendar for the first time and they don't book or take action that we want them to take they get a follow up email about it answers a lot of their objections. So all these ways to like find money on your list literally just hatching holes with emails And that's where the strategy comes into play where you have. Somebody really intelligent engine. So you know that you're not missing out on anything when you've got somebody mart manager west. Yeah i mean the the thing is with email list management is. You don't know what you don't know. That's how i see it. Is that once you get somebody to do it. And you start seeing the value hard for people to qualify paying somebody to send a couple of emails. But then like i said as for me is after i got into. It was like holy shit. This is insane. This is intense stuff like whereas i i before i got into it. It was like oh yeah. I'll just throw a couple emails and that'll be it so i do see. I definitely agree with. There's so much value there and there's so many things that you can do and how to communicate with people and how to make things work better at least for me we've we've Automated one process of one part of the business. "Mean, it's quite possible. Any description of this bike. You talked to Kevin. I'm on the case. He's already moved on, he said. Once it was stolen, he's moved on. And having my bike stolen as a child was probably 10 11. The coolest bike I ever had. That was I look and I look back on that and that that pain was deep man. I guess I should be thankful my parents would never get me the coolest bike. They'd get me like the third or fourth coolest bike now. I was in the same club with you. I always wanted a dino or a mon goose or some sort of, you know, but whatever those and I never was in the market for those never was going to happen, right? I don't even remember the brand of it. I think it was the K Mart brand, but it was chromed out and had baby blue lettering on it. Sorry. That happened. And it still hurts, man. While we're confessing about modes of transport when we're kid, I, um I never had a big wheel. My My mom would get me the K mart. Knock off the hot cycle. Oh, Big wheel would have a spinout lever on it. Oh, over it, You know the hot wheel the hot cycle. Ah, if you want to spin out, got to get going really fast. And then, like Move your feet backwards for a second. Hit the brakes that way, and you could scared But it wasn't the same. Did you ever did you ever have one of those little green machines? No, I don't know what that is One of those AA like like a little truck thing. A little monster truck. Like what? A big wheel? No, not a big wheel. Elektronik. Like like a motorized foot with those things have a name? No, I don't mind was booked foot. How'd you know? I had a big foot. Well, because Bigfoot was the only monster truck were kids. Oh, yeah. Until until grave digger took over. Everything ruin his life. No. Hi. Thanks, Dennis. I know I never had one of those. I know. You don't know what you know What the you know The green machine green machine. No. Like a souped up big Wheeler's green, obviously, and it was longer and you had, like, almost gearshift was on like, almost like a manual transmission, Big wheel. We did have an engine. No, you're the engine was your feet. So they said, so the thing that the gears didn't work. Say no, they I think they worked. I never had one. So I wasn't really familiar with that. I wrote my friends a couple of times about a hop along. You're in one of those. Was that the big ball? Yeah, Those were fun. Down off their fun. You mean you'd rather sit and spin? Oh, how? Yeah, Those were good. I wanted one because my friend had won that I would like the psychedelic pattern and then you twist the thing. So I went in. I was like, Hey, Dad, can I get a sitting spending assure sit on this and spin. He held his middle finger up. I did wasn't nearly as much fun man. This green. Where was it? Is the visual that man, Frank, just like a basketball on Frank's on. You're just giggling and screams. This green machine is legit. Yeah, I know. I never had one, though. I'm sorry. I don't even know what the thing Yeah. That's when I learned that we were lower middle class that this thing right here. That's the green machine. Oh, yeah. Joey's got it upon bone TV. Piggy knows what the real green machine is. 7 to 75791025 Hillsborough County teachers I read today that there Ah! They're considering a strike. I support that if I'm a teacher. This is when I would strike like you're asking me to go back into a situation where We're basically all going to catch Corona virus. I don't think that I would show up for work. I think that I would unite. And I think I would form a picket line. And I think if you were to do it with enough teachers I think you could avoid getting fired. And there's so many levels toe. Why it feels weird and wrong. Specifically in Florida. I mean, like, I know the argument is different in other states. They say we've stabilized. We're not really seeing that with the numbers you mentioned earlier. Today was our biggest one day increase in deaths. At 120. So you know to think that this is that actual peak of that is probably not true. Right? So just in this situation where we're so in the midst of Of our peak. And it looking worse than it's ever looked to be talking about school in less than a month. Just feels weird, like even if they came out, said Hey, this is too crazy right now. We're going to revisit this conversation in two months that would feel Normal. I completely agree. My son doesn't know what he wants to do. We talked about it, and he has no idea what he wants to do. He feels like he's not getting an accurate are enough of an education through the virtual learning. But he also doesn't want to expose himself to this damn Corona virus, Right? And then, And I mean, what What happens if you are a kid who has a parent with a pre existing condition or if you're a teacher with a pre existing condition? Does that mean you just you're no longer eligible on ly people with the highest of high health and immune systems. Can qualify to be teachers now, because if if it's a possibility, you die fromthe Rhona than being at school just isn't a thing that's for you, man. This is just a mess. You gotta live alone. Who are you? Hey, Drew it to Carl. Hey, What's up, man? What's going pretty good, You know, just down here driving backto work. Yes, sir. What the You guys started talking about bikes and you know, I remember the green machine. I'm the same age as you are. I'm always wanted one. But when I was like, five, my parents got divorced. And originally I stayed with my mother. So it was the night before my fifth birthday and all that I wanted for my birthday was a bike and is one of those memories that You know, some stick out some don't I will remember this forever got up the morning of my birthday. "I love it when the blue light comes on because my mom takes off with me in the car and is like I'm on a rollercoaster ride but I like K. Mart because it has toys and my mom would take me down the aisle. If I asked I know we have everything we need but I also know that. We don't always have extra so I knew not to ask for any of the big toys but there was one little toy that you've asked for our probably get. Maybe you've heard of it. They're called matchbox cars. There are these little tiny die. Cast metal cars that come in all kinds of different types and colors. Sometimes I get the hot wheels which are like tricked out matchbox cars but there are sent some more. They have maybe bigger tires. Are the engine sticking out of the hood. But I'm fine with just play matchbox cars because they're just as fun when we get home. I run straight outside with my new matchbox car and my little collection with me. My mom is watching me through the window over the kitchen sink while she catches up on the dishes. When she's ready for me to come in show Holler my name out the window. And then if I don't come right away she'll say my whole names Jason Regan Parham and I know that me. He's like I'm in trouble. And then he's a run inside so I'm outside plagued with them with my matchbox cars by myself at stump. This don't cool because my dad. I cut down the tree that have been there. It was an awesome place to play cars. Then I noticed a person jumping are chain link fence and coming into our yard. I don't know him but I know he's an older kid in our neighborhood so he walks up to me gets on his hands in these in offers to play matchbox cars. I don't know how long we're GONNA play but it's great just to have someone to play with right now in this moment. I know that I have a friend. This person has made my day. I didn't know that someday I would be a forty four year. Old Man digging through a big box of matchbox cars trying to find a perfect once for three dollars or go home. Get on my hands and knees and play cards with them because I want to be like that friend who made my day when I was a little boy and I hope. Someday del by those little cars for their kids and make day to some people. They're just cheap little toys but to me they are points of connection with people I love. And it's those connections that make life worth living. So here's a quote from Dr Cease to the world. You may be one person but to one person you may be the world. My wife asked me this question a couple of weeks ago. Do we have anything in common? I say sure then I try to name all the wonderful things that we have in common. It was kind of embarrassing. After I said our children I found some but it did take some time. The world has become like a really small place with email mobile phones and social media networks. You can connect with people all over the world instantly but you can lose the connection to the person who's the closest to you. Time live in responsibilities. They all have a way of disconnecting lovers. Even entertainment has become way too personal over the past decade. Whether you're watching show are playing a game. You're probably doing it. Solo. I mean most people are caught up in their own lives in entertainment online. If you're not careful you're love can get broken and you'll find yourself married to a person you you have nothing in common with like everything pushes you apart. And you lose that connection that major love special to begin with. So what do you do when you wake up one day and you realize you have nothing in common with your spouse okay? Let's figure this out together. I have to admit this recent struggle in my marriage. I said that my wife actually asked the question. So amber are looking for ways to reconnect with each other and discover more things that we have in common. So if you have an idea to help us you can.

"It's like you know I just I feel like it's too easy to get music now. Isn't that the point? Now is not the point. I feel like looking forward in and getting it like finding the music like right now. People feel like it's so easy to discover whoever they are dependent on these algorithms. And you know that's shaping their musical path in a certain way and I don't think people are thinking about that you know let's say I want to take my hard earned money. I want to support you. I go to fat beats and your album. But I'm the three hundred first customer out while you're vinyls limited to three hundred now. I can't get your music is. What's the what's the balancing act on that? Well know if somebody wants to get my music they can get my music. It's the twenty first century like there's nothing stopping anybody from getting anything so I'm not really I don't feel like I just want to hear some more music like I just feel like it's like you know people can get music anywhere you know for. Free. I don't know the way that we release music. I feel like needs to be revolution. So I'm just trying to explore that you know how people created I know. Jd When R. J. diller. Love would hear something. He would take headphones off. Closes is and start. Nodding himself beat boxing little drum patterns. Like I think sometimes headphones can get in the way when you're creating music to who honestly I don't. I don't really like using headphones. When I'm making beats but I know people that do it and it's all just what you used to think. I it it to the person so I guess the last thing I wanted to bring that was just the actual tape itself because timber the full vision of that project. You said it was like from two years ago and now here it is at present day. So it's it's kind of a full circle project But tell the people about yet. It's pretty soon. So yeah the release. The you know secret release on the website was just like the aside and I I had always intended on doing a b side to it but you know when how shoes hit me up and said I need a B side for it. It was like yeah tight on do that but obviously I had I had just finished the K. Mart project at that point so I sent it to him so this is kind of you know the record that was made before and after K. Mart Shoppers. So it's kind of crazy so when you're when you're hearing it if you buy this record and you hear it's kind of like two mindsets went into this kind of the the Jesse from two thousand sixteen in now for sure. Yeah I like how it turned.

"A trip Hey nobody's there and it's a big deal and there's nobody to blame it's amazing time to go on a trip you know the word on social distance of distancing there's nobody on the airplane yet the whole freaking thing yourself so I don't worry about it so I mean it's pretty incredible so if you're in a position to get your home ready financed if you don't have it paid off you can get a Zippo little bitty tiny go call Churchill mortgage all right now Churchill mortgage you get you lined up baby that's what's going to happen here so pretty pretty incredible stuff Henda yeah are those of you that invest in the stock market steadily if you go extra money and you're out of debt completely anyone dump some money in there it's on sale right now there's a sale up at Wall Street there got a big sign out front going going out of business sale no it's not going out of business but this was some of you think but it's a great time to buy the blue lights on a K. Mart you know I mean you know you know what that is or not but anyway there's a they set having a great time to buy definitely not the time to sail listen if you've got a really nice big piece of real estate and you eat if you wanna sell it like in the next two weeks you're not to give it away because people are freaked out and when the freaked out they're not thinking clearly and they give stuff away and you should be standing there when they give it away with your money and get a deal on it and that includes getting a mortgage refinance for right now baby doll right now and yet you do not cash in your retirement good lord no the worst possible time no no no no no no no no no no no this is if you were gonna do anything right now by more but don't buy more just stick with what the plan is fifteen percent of your income going into retirement not your own baby step seven and you got some money laying around that you have been deployed and you want to drop some into some mutual fund you can I got a business I got to run through this downturn is I'm not gonna be deploying any money except to.
