Americans and the right to vote: Why it's not easy for everyone to cast a ballot

"A conspiracy theory. Grow this large this quickly and be so divorced from reality. It basically goes like this. President Trump is terrified he's going to lose the election. And he's going to use the Postal Service to try to limit mail in voting as much as possible to in effect, disenfranchised Democrats and steal the race, just as he did with Russian interference in 2016. This conspiracy theory, however, has perhaps even less evidence than the Russia collusion theory. Over the next 15 to 20 minutes. We will systematically debunk this most ridiculous conspiracy theory. Way are not going to allow the president of the United States to dismantle the United States Post office and undermine the possibility that absentee votes could be used in the next election. And he also wants to do everything you can Two stirred out and the results of an election he thinks he's going to lose. So why do Republicans stand behind a Z attacks the most popular institution in the United States government? I don't understand why the president wants to block funding for the post office in order to prevent people from voting. That doesn't seem fair or right or leading. It doesn't seem like it is going to steal a lot of confidence among voters that their ballots are going to be counted right Once you start to realize that your entire states conduct elections with mail in ballots once you realize the history of the Postal Service is incredible Accomplishments, you know and how it's a backbone for the country. You know, you understand the stakes of what's going on here. You mentioned Republican leaders as well. Carl isn't this about moral bankruptcy of the Republican Party Democrats, aided by their allies in the left leaning media, been accusing President Trump of trying to rig the election by interfering with the United States Postal Service in an effort to have her mail in voting, But the simple truth is that there's no truth to this claim whatsoever. In May, a scathing report by the Government Accountability Office confirmed what's been widely known for more than a decade. The Postal Service is in deep, deep financial trouble since it's designated as an independent agency. It's not funded by tax money, but rather expected to support itself through the fees it charges for using its service. But as technology has made email and messaging communication far easier, and competitors such as FedEx, ups and Amazon have eaten into the post office's package delivery service, fewer and fewer people are paying to send mail. This has been a big and worsening problem. Since 2009 when the O designated the USPS as being at risk for fiscal insolvency, as it wrote in the report issued in May. Since Geo's 2009 high risk designation, the postal Services financial viability is progressively worsened due to declining mail volume. Increased employee compensation and benefit costs. An increased unfunded liabilities and debt. First class mail volume has declined 44% since fiscal year 2006. Additionally, employee compensation and benefits costs have been increasing, although the Postal Service's workforce declined from about 786,000 in fiscal year 2007. To about 617,000 In fiscal year 2013. The USPS is workforce increased to about 630,000 in fiscal year 2019. Finally, total unfunded liabilities and debt continue their steady upward trend. Now, this has resulted in the post office, losing roughly 78 $1,000,000 from 2007 to 2019. Senator Barack Obama recognize this way back in 2008 while he was campaigning for president, if you think about it Ups and FedEx. They're doing just fine. It's it's the post office is always a problem. When President Obama took office, his administration attempted to ease the financial crush on the post office by altering collection routes in removing mailboxes that simply weren't being used. In the past 20 years, The Washington Post reported. Back in 9 202,000 mail boxes have vanished from city streets, rural routes in suburban neighborhoods Mohr than the 175,000 that remain. Between 2011 and 2016 The Obama administration ordered an additional 14,000 mailboxes removed because they were underperforming, which the Post office defines his collecting fewer than 25 pieces of mail per day. This routine elimination of mailboxes to consolidate mail collection and keep operational costs down has continued since President Trump was inaugurated in 2017. But now President Obama and his vice president Joe Biden, are casting this as an attempt by Trump to keep people from voting. By mail as president, Obama told his former advisor David Plouffe, on a podcast this past week. What we've never seen before, is President say, I'm goingto tryto actively kneecap the Postal Service encourage voting and I will be explicit about the reason I'm doing the postmaster general said, would delay the approaching liquidity crisis. That was all the aid for the Postal Service in the cares act completely. Separately, The bill also gave $400 million to something called the Election Assistance Commission for distribution to states to prevent, prepare for and respond to Corona virus domestically or internationally for the 2020 federal election cycle. This, however, wasn't enough for Democrats and they're now demanding a $25 billion bailout for the post office in the next round of Corona virus relief funding, as well as $3.5 billion earmarked for mail and voting on Fox Business Network President Trump said. Well, that was simply too much. You know, there's nothing wrong with getting out and voting. You get out and vote. They voted during World War one and World War two. They should have voter ID because the Democrats scammed the system, but it's two of the items are the post Office and the 3.5 $1,000,000,000 The mail and voting Now, if we don't make a deal, that means you don't get the money. That means they can't have Universal mail in voting that just can't have it. So you know, crazy will be many more just nature. Now Democrats have interpreted this, says Trump, admitting he's deliberately trying to sabotage mail in voting by preventing the passage of desperately needed funding for it. But this claim to falters under the way to the fact of the post office can already handle the expected flood of mailed ballots this November. According to the Postal Service's annual report. In fiscal year 2019 USPS handled 142.5 1,000,000,000 pieces of mail on a typical day, the report notes are 633,000 employees physically process and deliver 471 male pieces to nearly 160 million delivery points. Now this year, That number is higher because the Postal Service has been delivering stimulus checks as well, A census forms now those alone added about 450 million additional pieces of mail. In 2016 roughly 136 million Americans voted in the presidential election. The number's probably going to be a little bit higher this year. If official set ballots to every single American who's registered to vote. That's about 158 million people, and then 140 million people returned ballots. The roughly 298 million pieces of mail handled over the course of several weeks would be well within the Postal Service's ability to handle them all. Now. Officials, of course, won't send a ballot to every American who's registered to vote, and not every voter will vote This too. His false. The changes were ordered to streamline mail collection and limit mail carrier overtime costs, which top $1 billion per year, as the Washington Times reported. In the past, postal delivery worked this way Ah, worker would arrive in the morning and work on various things in the office. Sorting mail handling holds on mail waiting for incoming mail to arrive. To prepare for delivery that often involved waiting around for hours and then starting an actual delivery route later in the day once started, a route has to be finished, and that involved workers going into overtime as they delivered through their route as evening approached. Did. Joyce plan, which is now being implemented in a pilot program in about 200 cities is called expedited to ST Afternoon Sort. A Shin or esa es un during a worker will arrive in the morning. Collect all the mail that was ready to go out and head out for delivery. It's known as retrieve load and go. Then, after finishing the delivery route, the carrier would return to the office and do in the afternoon. The office work that used to be done in the morning that way, when the end of his or her shift arrived, That would be the end of the workday. No overtime would be incurred. Mail that arrived to the office in the afternoon. While the carrier was doing office work would be delivered in the next morning's route. It would be ready and waiting with the carrier arrived for retrieve load and go. The effect to customers would be that mail was delivered to the office in the afternoon. It would be delivered the next morning. Instead of that evening, the effect of the Postal Service would be to save an enormous amount of money in overtime costs, streamlining operations and making the postal service more effective. However, this has been cast as mail carriers simply leaving pieces of mail, especially mailed in ballots on the floor for days. For weeks at a time. There's no evidence to support this baseless allegation. Justus. There's no evidence to support the notion that the Trump Administration has been removing mailboxes or mail sorting machines in an effort to a happier mail in voting. Mail in voting might be impacted by not but not by postal service operations but rather by individual state laws, which make mail in voting cumbersome, especially in New York, where a congressional primary conducted at the end of June still doesn't have a declared winner by the middle of August. The Postal Service, in other words, can easily handle mailed in balance. It doesn't need a $25 billion bailout, and it doesn't need $3.5 billion on top of the $400 million that has already been earmarked specifically for mail in voting. The Postal Service will remain fiscally solvent at least until the end of 2021 but efforts to change it efforts listening to the Dan O'Donnell show. What struck me about all of this is is not just how Democrats have have Done exactly what they're accusing Republicans of doing Have you seen the freak out over the conspiracy theorists, the cue and non believers for those who are not familiar with what Q. And on is it's ah, far right conspiracy theory that posits that President Trump is working behind the scenes to bust the secret cob. All of Pedophiles led by Hillary Clinton and John Podesta, and pretty much every celebrity that you've ever heard off. There's no actual evidence for it, of course, but because a number of Q and on believers and one Republican primaries, it's being hold. My goodness, This is the worst thing that ever happened to mainstream politics. We've got conspiracy theory believers. There's no conspiracy less founded on actual evidence than this post office nonsense. In fact, I've seen pictures on the Internet that have been circulated. Now Twitter and Facebook have done their level best to try to make sure that misinformation about elections nothing that could undermine faith in elections is allowed on their platforms, except for these pictures of mailboxes in Wisconsin. Of all places. That are piled up. They've been taken off the streets. Trump doesn't want you to be ableto Drop your piece of mail in a mailbox. Well, what these pictures Don't point out is these are piled up. Sure, at a facility that refurbishes the mail boxes to put them back on the streets. It's always got a stack of mail boxes outside because it's working on them. Refurbish them, then this idea that sorting machines and mail boxes have been ripped off of the streets in the last couple of months so that we can vote by mail is nonsensical. Unless you're willing to tell me. That Barack Obama and Joe Biden, who saw over 2011 and 2016 5 years. The removal of 14,000 mailboxes and 200,000 mailboxes removed in the years before that. Unless you're willing to tell me that they're part of the conspiracy. You're almost forced to admit that there is simply no evidence behind this, but what's remarkable to me? Is how quickly this became mainstream and it got me thinking. Well, wait a second. Wait a second. Wait a second. If Joe Biden is up by as much as the polls suggest he is 10 to 12 points. Why would Democrats suddenly be trying to cast doubt on an election? Right? Wasn't this Almost exactly four years ago. What President Trump was supposedly doing August of 2016 when the first reports on the eve of the Democratic National Convention about election hacks and Russian interference, and all of this started coming out. President Trump's first said that he was worried that the election might be rigged. You might remember President Obama rose Garden press conference said. How would you even rig the presidential election? Donald Trump is whining about losing an election that hasn't even happened yet. The idea was that Trump was going to cast doubt on the legitimate legitimacy of the election because he knew he was going to lose. Remember the pole similarly showed him down 10 15 points. He had no chance of beating Hillary Clinton. So he was preemptively whining about the fact that Clinton and her cronies we're going to use massive vote fraud to cheat. Why are Democrats doing this? When their candidate is up 10 points. Maybe it has something to do. With this. A new CNN poll finds that 50% of registered voters back the Biden Harris presidential ticket. While 46% say they support Trump and Pence right at the polls, margin of error plus or minus 4% points. There's a new CNN poll. Across 15 battleground states. Biden has the backing of 49% of registered voters while Trump lands at 48%. In other words, that massive lead doesn't actually

It can't just be a theme him one month, and then it's gone the next month, so I'll be judging it based on you know over consis consistent period of time doing a stop with their resources. What are you doing with the team you're on? "Th any ESPN and it is time for the match show. The for your La have more Anthony joining us. How are you? I'm good I. missed my call time you know. You think. You're the time change at the same time. Change that it was last week. You showed up on time though I know what happened. What happened, was you scored a goal after you've been named captain, and now you filling yourself and you like oh they. Work. I know checks so. It it's tough sometimes to fall after games and. you know I just I. let this one slip. So that's that's my fault. I Apologize. How were you? Like having that first of all you've got I mean even somebody who's been in the league and stuff like that and you're. You're obviously used to doing this like is. There's still though a rush when when you get that first goal of the season like just experiencing that. Yeah. You know I think the way the game went laughs, game or read beat the Galaxy six to I felt like my performance was in the best, so I knew that you know I wanted to. Take some leadership on in this game Ben. Trying to get a goal you know always helps calm the storm for your team, and that one in the way we have worked on it and training ground. It was just it was just nice to to see. Hit the back of the net, and I just wanted us to continue ammo mentioned, so it was nice to get a goal early in the season, yeah So. Is it normal now? The Environment Bobo. The lack of fans not being in the bank is down. The field normal is still weird. Knowledge so weird. It's so weird I think. It's just. I don't know we've never been in a situation like this I. Don't think three Games and we'll change your whole perspective on the on the tournament, but we're definitely adopting, and we're growing in each game, which is important, but it's still very very weird. How confident do you feel when talking with mark? Anthony? K midfielder for your L. EFC about just the security of the bubble down there and then that ultimately the this setup is going to allow you guys to finish the season and do everything that you guys WanNa do. Yeah I think at the beginning. It was tough to have confidence in the bubble setup. You know with all the teams our testing positive with Fowler smashed, Ville, but once. Laughed and the tests were starting to come back all So all negative it it was good, and I gave the the rest of a hotel in the players and stuff a sense of calmness, and you know actually. Competent in the setup, so I think now it's obviously we still follow the protocol, but it's not as strenuous on the mind because you know, there's no. Positive tests amongst the group. was there anything special about you know facing? This team's. Given, what happened to us with them last evening? Yeah obviously. It's exciting whenever you get an opportunity to. Play your football against the team that you know took something away from you especially at home last year so You know we're very confident going into this game and were excited that we get an opportunity to play against Seattle just like we're excited when we get to play the galaxy, so it's GonNa be a good match and everyone's roundup and ready to go. What's like the General Vibe of the team right now, just being in this situation. Where you know you guys are seeing so much of each other you know you're. You're any en each other's space this often like what? What's the experience like? In terms of how effects your interaction as a team? I think it's actually a good. It forces you to you know, engage what your team make more. which were only Spanish. It the overall morale being here, so We all know it's time for each other, so I think instead of to lean on your. You make to get through these. Situations but I. It's been you know. I think we've handled it very well. We're not always in each other's face and stuff, so you have the time and space to to get away and have your own room, but I think it's important to to create even more comraderie in tough time like this. AMAC, new and I have had conversations in the past about the movement right now. What we're witnessing with protests, we both live downtown. We both have witnessed not walked with them. Where are you right now? Spiritually intellectually. When it comes to. The way. The sports is handling the extension of what you and I were talking about a few months ago. I think it's I think it's a good start. You know it's important. Seeing all these different sports get involved in it and using their platform because they influenced so many people so I think it's still early to judge Where where they are, and how positive changes therefore six, but.

How box they're doing what the always done they they can't do is continue to compete against much younger man. That doesn't mean that they can't compete. Those should be completed. because. I can't continue to box and challenge eventually an empty Josh, she wore a or Deontay, wilder or something like that. That doesn't mean that he can't box anymore. It's just mean there becomes a point in time, in which his age becomes an impediment to be named. Continue to do what he's doing, but that doesn't mean what he's doing still. Isn't that excellent very very high level? To this now what they've added to this curiosity of to age giants is a freak show because literature again, not know, but they've added attitude. Guys not known for anything they're about to do. And they're being paired with two men. who were all time greats at what they did. That's why as a freak show yeah. No no, because here. "Was The guy last night. Who the hell knows who's going to be tonight? Who knows WHO's going to be tomorrow? That's how deep they are. We don't know if there's going to be leadoff. If, it's going to be designated hitter I. Mean we don't know who's going to be the catalyst for these ones because everyone steps up is a game changer everyone when you mentioned incredible, you mention to the D. H. means just one more spot where you're the other team. You don't get a break Yummy, because you know really Dave Roberts was going to be having to make these decisions you know about okay. How do I leave this guy out of the lineup? I WANNA put this person in, but you know the bachelor doesn't worry with or I. CAN'T I can't take cody bellinger off the field I can't. Can't take off the field that D. H. Slot gives you one more place to put all these different bats that they have like you just don't get a break. If you're facing that lineups that gives me a lot of confidence even with the bullpen. Still being something that you're that you might have concerns about with the dodger. This is something that can directly offset and again the death star for the time being feels apropos, because it's just this big ominous, overwhelming force that your to be staring down feeling like you're a little x wing fighter like trying to figure out what the hell do with this thing. You know what I got A. Bone, to pick with our company. Is Not. It's not a big bone. Subong this. East Coast bias thing is driving me crazy. At the top of the ESPN DOT com are the red sox. You scroll down a little bit more as Washington versus the nationals you keep scrolling and I still can't find the dodgers. What is that? What is that I don't. Home screen until. There's a story from Zozo bringing down the top five positions. Teacher might trout and Buki Bets. Are you kidding me. This is the best team in baseball people. They sit up higher on the homes on the homepage for our website. I understand that you know a lot of guys love your Yankees. That's all fine and Dandy. They didn't even finish the damn game. Think. It's this is what we deal with on the West Coast you deal with it. As sports, fans deal with it as a team and I'm sure in some ways Mark Anthony K midfielder for your. L. AFC has experienced that East Coast Vice. We can talk about that with next. The MAC attack coming up, so we will talk with Mark Anthony, clear, L. AFC and Portland fight to a two two draw, both advancing into the knockout phase of the tournament and Next game for the L. AFC Seattle sounders Monday July, twenty seven eight PM Pacific Time. That game obviously can be heard right here on seven to ten ESPN. We're GONNA joined momentarily by Marc, Anthony K midfielder four Jor el. AFC and we can learn to L Z. has he experienced the east coast bias because it is ridiculous that the Yankees are leading? ESPN site did not even play a game. Freekick rained out sixth innings. That's. That is not an official game. It does not count for the records. The dodgers even have an abbreviated game in an abbreviated season. Look all joking aside. Man Like that's. That's got to mess with the League like. Okay, what are we going to do with this like? How do we actually do? We have so little time for the entire season like there are only so many make-up's and rain outs, and all that that you can even afford right now if you're baseball like logistics. Got Homeless. Blue Jays team right now. They're trying to contend with the Blue Jays. They. I mean they would say oh America. They would actually don't blame us. Our fault you got you guys look in the mirror, pal, but. Trying to figure out this makeup for the Yankees like in a season like this, that's no joke. Turn. You, I mean. Do you remember how hard it was? And this is before everything ended up getting suspended, but how hard it was for the Lakers and clippers to find that makeup date. For the game that got postponed in the wake of Kobe's death and I. Remember like there was some fans complaining that put the Lakers in a position where they were going to have to go back to back to back, and they thought it was unfair to the team. It's like look you have no idea how hard this is at a venue like staples to find an open date, and then you have to juggle all the all these other teams schedules like that's hard to do under normal circumstances much less with baseball stadium with now so yet another reason that you should be focusing on the dodgers and not the rain out season. Listen! Everything about this year is going to be weird. I and we're going to have to stop and we will. Eventually going to have to stop comparing what we have to what we've always done. And all we can do is try to hold onto as much as what we've always done as possible and allowing from grace. For the things that we have to adjust now I know that may sound like. I'm being hypocritical because I was against expanded playoffs. wannabees wanting to give extend extended playoff is because. That's not just new reality. That's just about trying new. Ish could make some money. That's different. Yeah, but the money's part of the new reality. The money's though is actually part of that new reality is. We're losing income. We lost a ton of income during the pandemic. We need to try to get as full as possible. I think that's actually part of the same thing. Everybody's lost in the calm. And I'll take a pay cuts I'm sure a bunch of people taking pay cuts and furloughs, so it's not just owners that have lost a lot of money. Would try to make it back if you can't. You look to make it back. Considering back to the poll I? Look at you. Look at you. Are Your upside down boots? I got I deal with this Taco meat on top of my chest to figure out I'm going. Off. This is going. This is both a complimented, both complement and a total backhanded compliment, but of all the front facing folks at the station. You are by far. The best candidate the poll I think by far you're the one that people would most want to see would be least objectionable on them Raj groups. Have you met Raj Groves? Yeah, I got some polls skills Andy every now and again I walked pull I. Just try it out just in case you never know what's going to happen with. The sports independence. I I've been on the pole lately. Okay I. Can I consider you a strong second Raj, but I really bogus thing that that all things considered if you take in the entire package, soda speaking. She tell you what she what you did in the drain? No, she never even told me what I did. DRINK, you have no closer, nope. NOPE NO? No closer, Dodgers, though by the way have some closure. At least in one game sample size eight one win over the hated ones. The giants yesterday at the ravine. The mookie Betts era is upon US Elsie and it was pretty fun like he looks like he's GonNa fit in with this organization for a long time. Listen the thing that most is that he was enjoying the moment he was enjoying himself. He was happy to be dodger and some things. You just can't fake. And when I saw the. When he was asked when he signed his contract about whether or not, if the red sox had offer him same bill if he would've stayed. The his response to that question wasn't one that gave me a whole lot of confidence. You know it's sort of like he's sort of. It was interesting question, but he didn't say yes or no. You know which led me to believe that maybe this was just about the money, and not about being a dodger. Watching him yesterday, he just looked so freaking happy. I found myself bobby because he was smiling. And when you know that someone is happy. To to wear the uniform repping your team wreck in your city, and that that guys a good player and a good dude, and Oh, by the way he's going to be here for a very long time. It was a beautiful night man. It was beautiful and yeah I would have preferred and you guys know I love you some key K, but I would have preferred if McKie's first night was key case. That would have been like the perfect ending to the story, right? He's smiling everything and he's the one that's going four for five with a five rabies and run up to gable I go and see this is signed him didn't print out that way at least have plenty of moments that remind you why considered one of the top three players in the game if not. Definitively, he'd had enough of that. You saw the spe-. He saw flashes of defense. You saw the base money he got hit. So you know you saw me? She needs to do to feel good about it. It's just what a story book ending in order to get Disney or Pixar to make a film out of it and needed to be a key K. MAC and I'm sure you'll have plenty of nights like that and Keith is going to have nights like mookie hair, and that's just the spirit of baseball, but overall. It was just a great night and man. When that when that starting lineup was announced. I was like. Eight a pitcher in major league baseball. That wouldn't fear this frequent lineup. Not Break Site, man not. Incite. Jeff Passan who covers all things baseball for ESPN had a really good comparison when talking about the dodger lineup, and why it should scare the hell out of the rest of the League. The argument in favor of the dodgers is this. They have a lot of talent, and they have not just a lot of elite talent, but they are incredibly deep like they are just loaded with guys, and here's the crazy part. If August rolls around and someone has gotten hurt in. Maybe they don't have a backup for him. They've got the prospect depth to turn around and trade someone to try and fill that potential hole. We talk about how the Yankees are. The death star. The. Dodgers are the death star. The dodgers are also a team that have not won a world series since nineteen eighty-eight, so they are ready. They are hungry and this signing of mookie Betts really dovetails with their plan. And I, love that debt stark comparison L Z because Star Wars geeks like us will will note yes. The Star was awesome. It was also blown up twice, so there were weaknesses, but you look at this death star, and maybe there's a weakness to the dodgers, but I'll. Like I don't I, don't see it right now. In terms of what could take this team part over sixty games, maybe worry about the bullpen, and but the dodgers of managed to get pretty far even with bullpen issues. And in the meantime, that lineup is going to be so hard to deal with. You wonder if maybe the dodgers offset that bullpen by just not putting themselves in situations where the bullpen matter as much. And even if they're now. Do you feel secure. If you're an opposing managing if you'RE IN A. Team, if you have a dodgers down three in the seventh any. Do you feel good? You feel like you just need a couple more housing. You're all right because you shouldn't. Don't should we saw? Them exploded for seven runs into amy's. Night? It was like plot club club club club club bail. Bam, seven seven runs in two innings, and Oh, by the way the only guy who you can say really have Jamaica. Great night at the plate was Freaky, k., one else was just kind of foul. It great not like Oh my God. This is like. A landslide of by any stretch. Just solid tiny hits boom boom boom boom. You look up seven runs over. And we can expect that often, and here's the really cool about Oliver's is the thing. If you're a dodger fan you have to really excited about. Is that they're not depending on one or two or three bats to have.

"Knock off I? Know you guys are training and know you guys are physically fit, but did it take a minute to kind of find the rhythm of the game again. I think it was A. Matter of time before we started clicking I. Think going to the game. You don't know how the? Are GonNA play. Maybe bathe. They caught us off guard a little bit. You know when I. When I look back at the first half, it didn't look too bad. There wasn't that many transition transitional moments for them to counter attack. US, but you know. We we need to figure out how to shore up in the back. Because if you look at our last game against Philly, we had let in three goals to and that's. That's not really the L. Ese everyone wants to see and that's not the see. We Wanna be a part of so knowing that we can of course through those positive, but I think that rush was very three. In other words. In other words you this weekend Saturday got the galaxy, and they sit right now at zero the point scale. In, Group F with zero point. Is this is this. Match GonNa feel how much difference will feel from. The being here in La claiming against him. Yeah definitely GonNa, feel a little bit different, because you can't replicate environment that's created by you know the supporters in the stadiums, and no, the media fanfare before a game like that, but I think I think internal actually benefit us because you know you look at Galaxy in the last couple of years they they feed off of this rivalry where they got create these billboards and start see. They gotta say this in the media. They gotta say that and now they can't really do that. You know what I mean, so we're ready. We WanNA win every game and the fact that it's against the galaxy. It's a great opportunity to get three points, so we're excited, but it will be a little different in the sense of surrounding intensity. Speaking of your rivalry with the galaxy. Do you feel like you guys town now? Do you feel like that. Are you still? Are you still little brother? Nano! They're holding on their. They're holding onto. Let they have lots. You know what I mean. The. Talking? Talked to. Put, success. Yeah the fact that they have to keep bringing out there. They're five championships in high school and happened or something. You know we gotTA. We gotta focus on the president, and and the future now so yeah. I think to really holding on and I got a little backlash like on my said that from their supporters, but I think it's. It's the honest truth, so yeah, we're we're here. I think La's our city. Do you think the galaxy feel the same now that they don't have slot on, but they got shot. How do you say shot? CHEAP CHEAP THAT! I. There's no way they have the same. Mentality about everything you know, I think when you have a guy like telling. He could change everything for you I think they're still trying to figure out playing with. This kind of style. They have with teacher Reto, but they. They're not stupid people. They understand where they stand in in the in the position. They are in with us so I'm not surprised if they're. They're a little fuel Sirak so now so now you feel good that slot towns, not there see had y'all a couple of times Yeah like! It's not feel better. You know what I mean. He was kind of more annoying off the field. But. That's a great person to play. And that was a great opportunity have and now it's like we can actually focus on other players on the field that other twenty one players on the field. Sometimes, it was just all about him. And you know there's some good on the field that they don't get the recognition. Mark Anthony K. L. AFC midfield joining us. ORLANDO, so you're deeper into the fall. Has the boredom set in? Is there a routine or you getting through it better than you might expected? What's it like now another week into being on site, not being able to leave. Yeah, you know. I think the boredom. Is there obviously, but the days go by? Night you know it's crazy. How much stuff you can just find waste your time until until trading time and then next you know once you're done training. It's like you know you're getting ready to go to sleep so I think guys are getting a good routine I haven't been so a lot of them on what they're into. Where we're trying to push through it. One of the cool things is watching. You just grow as a player, but the leader as well and opportunity the captain. He talked a little bit about your your transition insensitive. Just you're rolling your voice in the locker room. Yeah so obviously my first year you know coming into new situation. I wanted to absorb as much experience is possible from the players around me. You know then obviously I have the bad injury. Then I go into my second year, and while the has a conversation with me where he wants me to be a leader. You know and that was a really. Really good moment for me to have someone of his stature asked me to do something like that. That requires a lot of responsibility and you know you look. At the year we had last year. It was great, and I felt like I was coming more into myself and having a bigger presence within the locker room, and on the field as leader, so that was nice and. Even this quarantine situation. I just knew that a lot of people we're GONNA. Need to be motivated and you know it was a difficult time and I just wanted to support all my teammates as much as possible and I think you know the coaching staff realize that with individual training sessions trying to push each other stuff like that and I guess in the end, I was rewarded the the captain's armband, but it's just. It's just understanding how to be a good person. Person to the people you're around, and how to really take the time to listen to what people have to say, because I think I've done a good job of having a connection with all my teammates, and you know if that's the reward having that and getting captain's armband, it's great, but it doesn't change the way I interact with them on a daily basis. If anything, it just gives me more responsibility, and I want to take care of all of them are. You talking about your relationship with teammates, and we were having this conversation earlier with a the Lakers and the fact that they all get along well will help them through this process of being in the bubble. Saved for you guys. The fact that there's a connection amongst yourselves. Does that translate to actual gameplay? Hundred percent hundred percent. I think if you enjoy who you're around all the time, the. The product is much better. You know, I mean you. You feel like you're. There's a deeper fight you're fighting for, and you know. It's easy to say racism thing of the past, but it's not especially black people don't enjoy the protection afforded by the Constitution as proud Americans. How much longer can we avoid an honest look in the mirror? Equality is that together? We must learn and grow. We don't know the exact answers we're committed to working. We will proudly support the California funders for boys and men of color. So that was Clayton Kershaw at the end as well and I hope the other twenty nine teams in major. League baseball are taken notice because that's how do that. That is how you put together a message and get the right guys to send the right message and have it be authentic insincere. Is this. Is just again as I say, I don't know if I'm a dodger fan. La Guy so no matter what they do on the like. I don't know if that's it but I can tell you right now. That registered with me. Period like. Real like I, don't feel like they. Were forced to do it in had their own twisted to do it, and they're just doing it because right now. That's the thing to do. Let's not have people looking at US sideways. Will we walk into driving down the street? that it doesn't feel like that. It feel like. This is the right thing for us to do because we WANNA do. This is how I really feel. For, whatever reasons in the past that Major League baseball the dodgers, even those players wasn't speaking out or saying certain things. In now that they are. It makes you feel a whole lot better about not only the dodgers, but who those individual players are you learn about you? Learn something about me. It's like it was in them to begin with it just she pulled out. If you. WanNa reason. Out At this franchise there are a thousand and one reasons to be proud, but I would tell you based on all the conversations I've had over the last few weeks, specifically with members of the dodge routine, both in terms of the roster's team executives all the way up to the owner. They get it. They get it. If that video is out there so they can look good the videos out there because they give you. A heads up by people are sleeves up. Really get involved meaningful ways in our community to make things better for everyone. I'm talking from my conversation. With Kershaw of to Peter Guber Salat Rosen magic of jt like. Men that I've spoken to. I'm telling you this nurse. The dodgers get it if you're a dodger fan or not, you should just very proud to have this franchise reputable, jekyll. They understand what's going on. They completely understand what's going on and Oh, by the way is not just the dodgers. I've had several conversations with with like less need with the rams and. Woke. Less was bringing some stuff down and I was like well. Hold up! He, says. Being we're in a bubble Wallace Jersey all. Going Bush any other blah blah blah, but there are a lot of people in powerful positions sports in this city who get it and who are willing to this leaves and do something, and it's a really proud moment in the city because of that well, it is easy, and like you said it's not just the dodgers in Los Angeles. You mentioned less need in the rams. It is just the dodgers in Major League Baseball. That's part of the problem. Right that we've seen NBA very active here. We've. We've seen the NFL. Try to be active to varying degrees of success with baseball. We've basically seen nothing other than a few statements here or there that you know almost everybody has said along the way that the dodgers are alone in this space. The dodgers really are the first team. Hopefully that that's right that it's the first team to do something like this as opposed to the only thing, but at this point, baseball is so far behind these other teams like look every time we turn on. An MLS game, I know we have our TV's on in this tournament is going on down Orlando. They're starting the game in virtually. Every player is on one knee. Weren't a black lives matter shirt. We know that the NBA. It's going to be active. The WNBA is active. We'll see what it looks like in the NFL when they play baseball's nowhere. One guy took a knee a couple of years ago. Bruce Maxwell you got to run out of baseball and I know that that won't happen again. Because people will be looking good, no one else is doing with the dodgers tested, and that's four. Darrell loan in this in that regard. Well I mean think about how the owners should. Group has handled all of this during the pandemic. You know when you talk about. Why weren't you already up and money? But before the fourth of July, what happened to the bubble was going on with the test why our players complaining. They haven't ended results yet, but the cancer open like they fumbled and bumbled a lot since March. Part of that has to do with the fact that lack of trust between ownership and players, and it's just been historically like that, but I think there's also the element of just who makes a baseball as far as the players. What are those sensibilities?.

"There are new Intel macintoshes in the pipeline that means they've designed them. They're ready to. They're going to still offer them new designs, probably a new I. Mac would be my guess, but we don't know but. They've said that they've also said. Our existing Intel computers and the ones we sell will be supported for years to come. I believe them on that, too. That's all we know, so everything else is speculation is my speculation. There will be a thirteen inch laptop and macbook pro this year. running on apple silicon. There will also be an Intel based I'm Mac this year next year. I would guess everything apple releases. Will be on the new apple chips and the apple chips. Here's the real the benefits. We pretty much can expect from the new apple chips. They'll use less power so if you have a laptop. You have an I mac, you said. No you have a laptop. The PRO macbook, pro. LAPTOPS, Yeah Yeah. I'm sorry I thought you, said I mak so the. Biggest benefit will be for laptops. You should get a much better battery life, maybe a day or two.

"At a at a certain point, college football in particular. If you're not gonNA listen to you, know the president of the NC. Double A. and you have different rules for different states. I, it feels like to me that the bare minimum everyone should just announced. We're all just playing conference this year. And hoping for the best hope that you can actually get the conference thing done. Because you're right travis. He's lost. All credibility with the leafing. He can do is flow out of suggestion that other people can take. You know instead of having this sort of what are you going to do? What are you going to do? What are you GonNa? Do just unilaterally just excess universally. Everyone announce. We're only play conference schedules this fall. And keep it moving and then hope that you can actually execute it. Yeah I just don't think anybody's GonNa list that especially with football with these other sports, they have some leverage with basketball, because they're the ones that administer all these chant football, the only thing they really have or the ability to rules and the only reason they have rules that people follow because for whatever reason this is never made any sense to me. They agreed to follow them that they could go do their own thing with their own rules that could pay the players. They can do all of these things and just the. The the NC double A. to jump off a cliff. We don't care what your rules are. We're going to go do our own things, so it's going to have to come from inside one of these leaks and it just doesn't feel like everybody wants. It just doesn't feel like everybody wants to be the one to say. We can't do this or at the very the very least we need to do this late. Nobody wants to be the first one to pull the plug other than the Ivy. League, so they're taking half-measures. We'll see. We will absolutely see our Kenny. "He'll Ki Ki this is really fascinating, too, because you're, you're essentially trying to delineate between. A! Very receiver and someone that everybody fears wants to get the ball like I. Don't think people fear Amari Cooper, the way tyreek Hill when the balls in the air, you but you gotTA. Is Fear Tyra he'll. There's no question about it because he could pick them up and put them down but Amari Cooper run nice. Crisp routes. In when he's got. Full of the point when he's all point, he's one of the best in the League on top of that. When I look at a do when I when I look at the do like Mike Evans. You can't account for Mike Evans from twenty in it twenty. You might as well give it to him. What? What is it that we have to do in the national? Football League getting Rizzo. We got to score touchdowns in body size, six foot, five, two, hundred and thirty forty pounds. That gives me a weapon that I. Don't get entire Req-. There's nothing wrong with retiree Keel. But when you got these other guys on the board. That you would probably prefer the Julio Jones's to Michael Thomas J Hopkins. Mike Evans is over a guy. That's you know. Tar heels with five nine five t as little. That it takes a lot of for little do it takes a lot to understand how to throw him the football. It puts a lot of pressure on the quarterback, a lot of pressure on office coordinator to understand how to utilize him. Think about it. Austin essentially was supposed to be tyreek Hill Tehran Austin with terrariums and they couldn't figure out what to do with his career went away. What if what if he goes to the Kansas City? Chiefs would a guy like Andy Reid that had guys like the Sean Jackson in the Anthony Tom is in. Westbrook and some of the other little smaller type players he's accustomed to Cochin has turned tyreek Hill career. It's something fabulous that that he's a bad football player. He's a phenomenal player, but you gotTA. Know what to do with that guy. It makes your job harder I wanNA make my job as easy as possible. Okay, correctly Thomas. Micheal Thomas makes my job easy. Correct me if I'm wrong. Any point. With Austin considered. The fastest guy in the league. Yes. For sure. Because when I think about this Sean. tyreek he'll, I'm thinking. Bb Can, but here's the pro. Here's the problem, though is that you never saw with the rams because they didn't know what to do him, yeah, they had no clue so at at one. Point Sean mcvay if. t-bone Austin had been with Sean, McVeigh. Would he have been tyreek Hill? He was. When He. Not Not for long, and I think he was gone right after Jeff Fisher right. They made that deal. They give an extension and then they moved him out shortly thereafter. At all right I'm looking it up right now if he did. It was very very briefly and. I think he did play with him one year. He, he did play one year because. Because, he killed the ball. Soured on him at that Yeah I. Put my. Point is. Point Body, tight body size comparible in speed all sorts of things phenomenal return, man college gadget type player could play all these different positions or reversals and everything. They got nothing out of him because at the wrong place at the wrong time if he's in Kansas City. Maybe maybe a guy like Andy Reid knows what to do with him phenomenal player. There's nothing wrong with ty. I take him all day long I'm just taking him over trees. I like trees I lay on us. The trees don't. Go ahead. Travis I was just GonNa say save on Austin. Played the one season with Sean. mcvay in two thousand seventeen, but only thirteen passes. Could you? Because I remember he was the one that killed from in the bog kickoff return against Seattle. Like but when you, there's a reason is like Julio, Jones, in Michael Thomas or or kidding the type of touches that they who Jones is the number one pick that they moved up kit. For reason you know what I'm saying. These type of guys when you are big fast physical. This is what the NFL this coaches light in every now and then you get tyreek, Hill this. Body at the risk of sending you around the Jameis Winston Bend again you look at this list. There's only one team that has two guys on Tampa's got Chris Godwin and they've got Mike Evans. How much better are those two guys now that Tom Brady's the guy throwing them the all. I. Think they still saying. No just won't be because they got the football. He threw him the ball. do through for five thousand yards. Thirty touchdowns, I understand he threw fifty picks, but at the same not only thirty three. He threw the ball. Did they were productive under him there? That's why they're on this list because they were productive. But how much more productive can they be if the ball's not going to the wrong teeth thirty times I? Bet You they numbers are not even close to being the same bitterly. I bet you their number I mean better I you. The numbers will be the same. They numbers aren't going to be much that much better. They might actually be worse because they might not be behind and throw it like crazy like they did. In that may be the case, too, but they'll be thousand your receivers because of the system, and this is what they.

How worried should we be about foreign takeovers?

"There's an opportunity for investments from China into Canada today. The innovation minister was forced to stand in this. House acknowledged that he misled when he said that the company. He's selling our retirement homes to was Canadian. Under Chinese ownership. You could be forgiven if you missed some of the stories that inspired today's episode. I mean look. It's my job to be tuned into all the big stories. And I know I miss them. The fact that moves like this one. Don't register on. Most of our radars might be a problem. Right now obviously Canadian businesses are suffer. Not all of them are going to make it through Colfax now. And that makes some of them. A tasty target for foreign buyers who are looking to acquire assets in a stable and relatively prosperous. And in some cases, those investments are badly needed in other cases, though especially when the purchasing company has direct ties to a foreign government. There are real security concerns. I mean. Why would a foreign government have interest in owning a failing Canadian business? So much interest that they are willing to pay more than anybody else. What kinds of risks do we take on when we allow Canadian companies to come under control of state owned businesses. How can candidate government balanced the need for foreign investment especially during an unprecedented economic crisis? With the red flags being waved by our security and intelligence agencies. And also just. Why, don't most of us know or care about this? What part of the big picture is missing here? Jordan Heathrow, and this is the Big Story Stephanie Carbon is an assistant professor of International Affairs at the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs at Carleton University. She also has a book coming out this fall on you, T. press, which is called stand on guard, reassessing threats to Canada's national security. Hi Stephanie. I want you to start. If you can buy explaining a recent deal that kind of put this question in our minds in his why we reached out to you, can you just tell me a little bit about The Hope Bay Gold Mine Project, and what it kind of means for national security in general, so the Hope Bay Gold Mine is a mine eighty S. he was a Canadian control. It was it was kind of being run by. by US t, T MAK RESOURCES INC and it unfortunately unperforming, it's one of actually three mines that have been unperforming recently where there's been some kind of take over, but this kind of raised eyebrows because it's been a basically taken over by a company called Shandong Gold Mining Company, which I also goes by St. Gold and the concern is that this company is considered to be a state owned enterprise. The Chinese government has a forty seven percent. Share in this company, and often when you at the other owners, the you can dig down and find that there's actually probably more links to the state. Generally, so this seems to be an a case of a Chinese state owned enterprise, taking over a Canadian natural resources firm something that you know has raised concerns in the past say in the last ten years and seems to be happening even in this Cova era or perhaps because of it. Why does it raise concerns? I? Mean pretend I know nothing what's wrong with them? So. This is a really good question. Canada is is a small country, right? We're a country, thirty, seven, thirty eight million people, and that means we. Need for an investment in order to grow our economy. especially up north I mean it's very expensive to develop things up north, and we know that successive governments have wanted to encourage business up north to try and improve the lives and conditions of people who live there, but we get concerned when we see these government, company or state owned or even state champion enterprises coming into the market in order to provide that foreign investment, and sometimes they are the only companies that are interested in providing that financial assistance to get these companies going. So you know the first concern is for a long time. We saw the government trying to get of business. Right privatizing various companies, but we're seeing. Despite the Canadian government getting out of these businesses, we're seeing other governments. Take their place, and this is something that actually Stephen Harper warned about in two thousand and twelve thousand thirteen. Canada has spent a long time. Trying to privatize its into industry, but not in such a way that we want foreign governments coming in and taking over those. Businesses instead, so this is. This is something that we've worried about for some time and. Part of the reason that these state-owned enterprises are problematic is that we often don't understand what they are trying to do in. You've taken a normal company right? McDonald's any other company. You know that they're trying to make money, right? That's what they do, but with state owned enterprises. Is there some kind of geopolitical or Geo? Objective that they have in mind. Particularly in the natural resources sector that we have to maybe be concerned about you know, are they trying to strategically placed themselves in such a way that they have control over Canadian resource in a way that perhaps maybe Canadians or the Canadian government would be uncomfortable with. Do we have any examples of that happening that we can look at and say you have this was A. A mistake we shouldn't have gone down that path so a really good example of this would probably be nexen people would point to next is of course a oil company. It's out in Alberta and in two thousand twelve. It was kind of putting itself on the market, and it was taken over by Seahawk. which is a Chinese state owned enterprise, a petroleum company and there was some concern that you know. Do we actually get want. These kind of government owned enterprises owning these businesses, and it paid well over the market price in order to get access to accent. A Louis. Some national security concerns that were raised at the time. Eventually, the Harper government did let it go through, but you know a lot of the promises that were made as a part of the deal. Really haven't gone very well. the business hasn't been as profitable as as was hoped. There's been some safety issues. Accidents with regards to nexen owned critical infrastructure, and even recently we've seen a number of layoffs. I mean. There's so many layoffs in that industry anyways in my heart goes out to the the oil workers, but. It. Really just hasn't performed as well as hopes, and this is one of the concerns that I think has often been raised. Is that state owned? Enterprises can't fail they are. Backed by the state. They're not subject to the same pressures as a normal company like again. Going back to McDonald's. You

Stimulus checks being sent to dead people, leaving loved ones confused

"In under a month the IRS delivered more than a hundred and thirty million corona virus relief payments to Americans that's two hundred and seven billion dollars that was part of the relief package passed by Congress during the public health crisis but the speed has come with some significant mistakes NPR's Tim mak has been talking to the families of dead Americans who got coronavirus relief checks Bob lemon dues father passed away in December so Bob who lives in Houston notified the V. A. and the Social Security Administration that his father had passed in order to stop payments from them and those were halted but on April fifteenth Bob who is a co signer on his dad's account noticed a payment in the amount of twelve hundred dollars he was a corona virus relief payment from the IRS I feel bad that this money is sitting in my dad's account I don't know what to do with it and there are people out there that need it badly and that bothers me quite a bit I wish I knew what to do with it but I don't treasury secretary Steve Mnuchin said one week ago that any payments to the deceased would be a mistake and should be returned but this is raised more questions than answers this mass confusion that's Jenna holds what of the urban Brookings tax policy center there's been no official guidance as to how in this instance people should return the money that was received for their loved ones the Irish does not typically track information on the deceased in America but other parts of the government such as the social security administration do it appears that there was no cross referencing before checks went out the scope of the problem could be in the millions the CDC estimates that two point eight million Americans died in twenty eighteen for example and there are signs that people who have died more than two years ago are receiving payments Karen McClure of fort Collins Colorado experienced this first hand her mother passed away in January of twenty eighteen but in April of this year she received a payment of twelve hundred dollars the government is being very reactive instead of proactive to this situation which I I find frustrating mark Iverson is the former IRS commissioner serving from two thousand and three to two thousand and seven he told NPR that the IRS has generally been doing a good job but there's a real trade offs of speed versus accuracy in the processing he says the people in this situation should rely on official guidance people need to rely on the information they get from IRS dot gov but that's not so easy when it comes to this topic three so will not the seventy one year old in Rockford Illinois has been trying to do just that she lost her partner of thirty nine years Frank dica just two months ago last month he received the payment I'm coping with Frank stuff pretty well at this point I'm not over it I probably will never be over it but it didn't that part didn't bother me I'm I'm probably angrier at the government for sending out a payment to somebody who's deceased three says been trying without success to find guidance online from the IRS to send the money back so I went online to the address on the letter and looked for a long time trying to find some way that I could first send the payment back and I couldn't find that so look for a way to contact somebody at the IRS or treasury or whatever to return the payment and I couldn't find that NPR did not fare much better than Theresa after multiple requests the IRS directed questions to the treasury department the treasury department pledged to have an answer by Tuesday morning as of the sharing the treasury department has not answered questions about what steps the IRS is taking to address this problem or what to do if a deceased loved one

My favourite tennis match

"We'RE GOING TO BE KICKING OFF. A new series and looking at some of a favor owed time tennis. Matches will also be catchy on the tennis news as well a little bit catch on with the virtual Madrid Open. That's just happened Andy. Bari Packard a virtual school as well as the news. The tennis is actually starting up again in some parts of the world in Germany. But before we get into that Kim how you doing. How is how is lockdown? Treating much the same as last week H. O. By fairly fast actually despite the lack of store which is really weird. I think I've kind of just go used to it now but having said that I did cheat in worship Madrid. I didn't won't should awful. I have to say it was. Radi my cup of tea just kind of saying it on a playstation today. What is g thing? Yeah it was a bit of kind of a completely new scenario new situation and I think it's kind of recognizes that living in these times they can open up new opportunities and of course you know this is one of them in the tennis world and I thought it was kind of really interesting to say I think in terms of what I liked. I absolutely loved the place. Be BUYING INTO IT. And procreating like the war codes Up there that the herbs to the controller I really loved that I'd like pretending to warm up thumbs and I really liked the way that kind of the players go invested in it and we're kind of really enthusiastic about getting creative and and kind of showing it off on on social media See I think that was kind of one of the things I I really liked. I saw I think it was Belinda. Bench really went. Allow it like a tennis gear. As I said could walk up the stairs a yeah just thought it was great to see getting really enthusiastic about it. 'cause we've not seen them on a TV. We're not seeing the you know what she pilots. Whatever as fans over the last few months it's just almost kind of great great to see them again really. Yeah I thought that was. That was good like the best saying the players saying the engage with the wall. I thought bench probably owned that one. I just like the little bits in the corner. We can just see their faces as they're playing. You just want to see their homes in the pack right to see what what. They've gone like their bookshelves or like. I just find it really interesting is like through the Keyhole. But he the past and that is really hyping. The stands framed in the background. Well potentially coming up in this focus on his lovely shorts but no yeah I. I didn't really like actually watching this. Nsa Watch just liked having the players kind of interacting having a bit of a laugh so that was nice to see the thing. This format would. I didn't think I'd want to see this every week. I think it would get a bit repetitive. After a while but I think it was a good kind of one off thing and obviously Andy Murray one that we should give him credit for that because he's now won the tournament on three different surfaces. If you can cool the virtual sphere surface adolphus. The Andy has donated his prize. Money half is going to the NHS and half is Gordon to the players Relief Fund. So it's obviously for Good Kohl's and Kiki burdens won the women's event as well and I think she was actually due to defend. Muhtar to say she has succeeded into that are mixed in our love. I love that idea. She's she's the non virtual virtual back to back very innovative. Double D for a champion. But yeah I think yes kind of great to see I guess. Play his Getting involved I think one of the things that I think they could have done. Better way of is the had this common tree over the top of the of the players. Now I I was kind of the point where I think it's more insightful. And more interesting if you just let the play is very commentary because Y- They are tennis players that professionals at the end of the day you'll be ready. I think what bringing up level is kind of almost kind of getting them to kind of talk about the tactics or you know that sort of that sort of level that sort of layer that. Yeah well my sick on a Royal Corps And it's like if I was doing this show in real life. I would choose to go here because of X. Y. And Said Yeah. It could be more of an educational thing as well I think what I did. I cheat and they lost connection because I was watching on light-years addicts correct show. It was just having to could LE- sort of chats while they were waiting for everything to ten on again. Did you see the I think Diego Schwarzer was best. Play at Deborrah. The savvy FIDO's but due to a weak WIFI CONNECTION. Debry a sorry. Schwartzman had to concede walkway. So I mean I love that idea. The like I think that's going to be one of the VAD. The walkover reasons happens to the best of our good today that like even top tennis players have poor Wi fi and all safely on. La has had a bit of a Jake because he said that Rafa could play because he'd like injured his back reaching for his game controller. Which and everyone believes here. I think I mean I think we believed him as well. As we've always believed tweeted about be cowed they gig for Geria- saw and I thought this this off to the best of the fortunately that was not the case. Rafeh was able to play. But we'll just very gullible but yeah if they're going to do this again like I think it could cost you on. But just every now and again maybe they do in other Walden on like Wimbledon. I different surfaces. I assume this playstation game has all the different surfaces they do girl scout one. Couldn't they maybe federal workup? That yeah that I think it could work. I think it could coexist when the tools get back up and running. I wonder if it's a sort of you know in the in the grounds of the events and you have fans can go line up for like an autograph from players and I wonder whether you could be like. There's a stand somewhere grandson for example. Oh face off against some. I player playing tennis against them. Virtually Sake I could see that happening. I know there are a few comments. The game was almost up to like up to scratch And you know whether it's the improvements to be made with with the game and you know I think I think potentially peop- governing bodies like the ATP liked the W. H. E. A. Maybe they should be looking at partnering with Game's about to really kind of Mak- licensed game like fever. Because I think you know I think this is as you said. This is very new is almost kind of this was a test and you know. I think there is appetite for it but I think there's almost kind of a lot can be done on that so a product side of it. Yeah for sure. I'm sure that's an avenue. They could possibly see going for. It's an yeah I like the idea that you could maybe have a bit of a play on it while you are an event. Perhaps if during a rain delay or something and even on Joe we actually have some real tennis. That's happened this weekend in Germany. It's kind of the first actual players of setback on cool so they've done a little exhibition featuring Dustin Brown and seven other players including randomly the British benign. Yon Shouldn't ski. Who I think is based in Germany. Anyway so yeah. That's been happening this weekend. We'll see JEB. So you fall head of other countries. Getting back to normalcy. So they've been out to do this. Little event Neko blends at the Base Tennis Academy. It's GonNa oversee how necessary health and safety measures in place. So they've obviously not touching hands at the net. They're going to touch rockets instead. There's no ballboys fans line judges. They're obviously doing it. Very watered down version is not for any points or or anything. It's not count I guess. Prize money's involved. So it's I guess aimed at lower ranked players to to kind of keep them earning something during this time and I think it's only for players based within about ninety minutes of the event so it's overseas a very limited

Walkin and Talkin Disney

"Hey everybody welcome to another episode of daily Magic. This is this is a take two of this podcast. We just Gave you some really good information for about two minutes or arm. Sorry for about ten minutes and then I realized I wasn't recording. So this do over. What are we doing well? We're taking a walk or second side the House all day. It's my lunch break and I just thought you know what we're not gonNA have an opportunity to record around the studio today. So let's Let's just pull out the recorder and talk while we walk so we have. Oh boy lots of cars so we have a skating for the first time. She's here with US trying to escape but she figured out that she does best when she just sits on the skateboard and goes down hill. We got any with us. She's walking our dog Elsa and we have Mr Liam with this right here and I'm Jeremy and we thought well. What could we chat about today? You know we've been doing a bunch of silly stuff we've been doing a bunch of games pulling out all the stops. The best we can and amy was like well. Why don't we talk about how we came to to be family? Yeah so I would say definitely we inherited some of the Disney genes from our families having grown up in southern California and the West Coast and the West Coast having family in southern California. Even after I moved away always out there every time we went out there my parents were. We gotta go to Disneyland. We gotta go to Disneyland. And then and then of course we settled in Phoenix. Amy was already there and it was just like six hours away. Like why not go? It was it was amazing. When we got married we went when we had. Liam became his fifth birthday. Were like this is it. We're taken Liam. It's like the rite of passage. It's the birthday trip. Liam hated it. Hates is not a strong enough word for what this kid felt about Disney. Yeah it was. It was almost scarring. Yeah for everybody. We felt so bad. Thankfully Amy's mom and then a friend from church was there. This is the sound of Fiona trying not to kill herself or us on that last attempt So we were able to kind of they got tired and you know what we'll take Liam and you guys go have fun but we were just so bombed because you know at that time. Liam had more of his hearing more of a site And it was just sensory overload. I think and it wasn't the kind of thing where we could. You know put headphones. Because he just doesn't tolerate any of that and it was it was we. Were only on like a deaf awareness. Day Yes so the so there are some accommodations. There it just. It just wasn't having it was not it was. It would be irresponsible for us and I think it was more about all of this is i. Don't think he quite knew where he was in space like. He wasn't really in good muscle control of his body at that point. Remember those posters of space like it had the whole galaxy and then it had like a thing that said you are here to know that part. No He's not a mushroom or is that a brown egg. We live in the southern suburbs of a Lanta beautiful gorgeous day here and I gotta say a brown exciting would be more rare than a mushroom so it's probably a mushroom anyway. Oh you did. Yeah that's why I kept going. Oh my God how because I was dying just because I think filling in the details with God is a rooster would have been helpful for all of us to share in that experience so we took Fiona for her birthday of everything. Went fine if you want to. Being are typical child home. Yeah we might push him over the edge if we took him again. Here's Yeah Oh yeah you were scared of some of the rights as being for your and a new four year old like she was barely not three was on her fourth birthday. Yeah well so you fast forward Liam Gets Omega wish trip. A bunch of stuff happened there. We moved cities we moved houses. And we kind of found ourselves saying we want to get this. Make a wish granted and we. We really just ended up deciding. Let's under the suggestion of Mika wish. Yeah but at that point. We said you know what let's do it. Liam hated it. It's free the worst that can happen is we can hang out if this village we hear about and just have a good time for a week the May give kids. The world. Village is an incredible incredible place. Yeah it was. It was just as hard to leave the village itself than it was. You know how you feel doubt on your last day of Disney vacation. It was difficult to leave the village itself. But that and you'd water so we you know. We ended up having such a good time and again like here's huge. Assist to give kids the world. They met us at the airport Harrison tears before we were even helped adjust our expectations immediately and they were like they're like look Liam special than they look at. Funen they say but you know what your special and they looked at us in there like mom. Your Special Dad your special. This is for you. You need to cut loose. You need to leave everything behind and this week is everything and and I mean they just they just said our expectation up to where we were softened up already so by the time we got to Disney and got the full red carpet treatment. You know with that Mak- wish button. I think we just like we were sold and it W- and so when we when we left we decided you know what I think. Because Liam is there's something for everybody Liam is Liam is aware of where he is when he's there Liam's aware of where he is when he's there and You know of course we are to now. Liam is aware in in a way that maybe we didn't expect being deaf blind at this point. Liam was you know he he? He enjoyed the parks by the smells and the different motions of the ride vehicles. And the different You know the the different lilting of the the ride vehicles. The way the ride vehicles were constructed on pirates of the Caribbean he's scratching at the grip tape We're looking at the pirates going nuts. He's he's scratching at the grip tape and cracking up. He's got a huge smile on his face because that was sensory to him. That was the input that was the experience provided to him. And we just thought to ourselves. You know what we're going to. We decided look. We're going to go back all the time. And so the very first trip back was a little nerve racking and I was a little apprehensive because we had really experienced this red carpet treatment and I mean where do you go from there. Yeah because I think it's important to note like the myth is if you're in a wheelchair or you need assistance that you somehow get this red carpet treatment and while you do get accommodations that are other than say a typical family or people who have typical needs You still it. They try to make this fair as possible. We need to contrast this with the absolute like free stuff top with Give kids the world because you have a make a wish button and the cast members are trained to look for that and give extra magic whenever they see literally bypassed the lines. I mean it's every it's all the myths that you hear about just Special needs families. But it's really only a Mako. Wish experience the thing I will say about going back to Disney and the reason that we keep going back to Disney is they do make accommodations for us and they do have some special things and every once in a while we get a little extra magic just like everybody else. But that's those are the key words is that it's like everybody else we Kinda Day. What they do is they level the the vacation experience so if you have typical children my experience may look to you. Like I'm getting special accommodations but I must special needs family. So there are some special accommodations that we need to bring us up to a normal family experience

COVID-19 Relief Bill Oversight: Here's What You Need To Know

"The house is expected to pass a two trillion dollar corona virus related economic rescue package today it's the biggest in history and it includes a five hundred billion dollar funds that the treasury department will use to help American corporations that is a lot of money so in pairs to mac has been looking into what kind of oversight there will be a time Hey there so five hundred billion Bucks how does this bill ensure that none of it will be wasted that there will be no fraud well so the bill creates what is called the pandemic response accountability committee it's made up of existing inspectors general from various government agencies who will work together to conduct investigations and audits into these programs the legislation allocates twenty million dollars for the government accountability office and also includes a special inspector general just to focus on that five hundred billion dollars that the treasury department has in order to work with corporations and finally there is eighteen question all oversight commission that will be reporting to Congress every thirty days leads temple with the director of public policy at the project on government oversight praised the frequent reporting requirements in the bill it does allow you to also do kind of that real time oversight that's going to be really important in a situation like this for the money is being spent very quickly so they've woven oversight into the heart of this bill in order to try and reduce the chance of corruption they will then a lot of oversight and based on what you've just said how did this all end up in the legislation so much of it well here's one example Massachusetts senator Elizabeth Warren she played a central role on an oversight panel she cheered during the tarp bailout and she is again playing a role in getting this congressional oversight into this legislation here's how it happened on Monday evening president trump answered a question about funds in the coronavirus legislation hello I'll be the oversight I'll be the elder said we're gonna make good deals we make good deals that alarmed Warren who according to a source close to to the senator called called Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer that night to see if they had locked in better oversight provisions in the bill and some other lawmakers are taking credit for other varies accountability provisions Carolyn Maloney who chairs the house oversight committee offered ideas for that committee of inspectors general we spoke about for example you have also been talking to watchdog groups have nothing to do with the government these are independent independent groups and what are they saying well so there are some holes in it Craig Coleman he's a lobbyist for the watchdog group public citizen said that the bill doesn't prohibit corporations from using the funds for political purposes so that means major corporations that are receiving billions of dollars in bail out funds will be able to who will also make expenditures trying to lobby the federal government to either change the law or secures significant government contracts or even make political expenditures to try to influence those will be in the position of determining what the law means and remember that committee of inspectors general I mentioned earlier Jennifer Ahearn the policy director of citizens for responsibility and ethics in Washington spotted an issue four of the eight named inspector generals are technically vacant and so there's an acting inspector general serving in that role that means those four haven't been confirmed by the Senate and have other jobs they have to do on top of their oversight responsibilities and Molly Clifford as she's the oversight council the chief oversight counsel at the watchdog group American oversight she had this to say there's going to be for others going the way since some of these recovery friends and there certainly will be profiteering I think every CEO in America is going to want to get their hands on a piece of this check but she also says that the bill gives the public some tools but I think this is the least gives Congress the geo and the inspectors general the mechanisms to try to hold things accountable and make sure the funds are spent the most responsible way to benefit the American people so generally government accountability groups are optimistic with the overall oversight provisions in this bill NPR's Tim mak thanks him thanks a lot

Jackie's Coming Out Story

"Out for. The swearing comes Jackie. Haiku poet Comedian Anthony. To Mak- she grew up in skelmersdale in northwest England. I'm just white hair about her. First sheltered crushes. I think she's the first person that's ever taught me about being attracted to an object couple of into this. Well I always take the bisexual box literally but the small size ends than that isn't the I like. The word Queer is on fire with an lots waves produced Survive Queen just meaning like fucking things off like an assault of of quite like you know doing it wrong for any sort of purposeful goods. Why saw linked to and GAL rank had to go wrong. Even crepe wrong lights disabled wrong so that people can say me so got one leg and so I- folk that applied instead of being like the. Oh God of Gotland Lego. Pull me or you know whatever light the thing that people expect to be as I do like stump poetry. An you'd like you know you've got to get a celebrity is obviously so it's like things to fuck shit open. A really goes. Why THEM OPENLY SURF expectation? So that's your favorite subject to them. Basically yeah yes. That's what it's called like. Calm Yourself Queer. Because that's what I'm about ways so alike but then when you say queer people like what does she really mean. What's the real sexuality as if it's an umbrella term that means nothing? I don't think that I love it so then you like you're right. Yeah you just want to know. What jets wholesome into his own? Yeah so I mean some yeah. Yeah so all of them all of them and then as problem as advice actual isn't words now. It's the the problem of sexual I mean. A lot of people now are saying Pan Sexual as opposed to vice may be in the past. Marta said bisexual this big shift. Isn't that the problem with bisexual? So people again and a couple of ood might people's on from scam in Wigan listen cone means like he got he got gangrene loving bisexual because of buy into so people like that means that you only like men and women. I'm by taming. You hate transpeople. Or You are an unseen. Non Binary so. That's absolute bollocks. You know historically bisexual people of been translated some advice on use of limited space. It's not like Oh you're bisexual you've got twice. The amount of exceptions gay people hate you straight people here generally people just keep the fucking down which at some yes so historically. It's like being bisexual rights. I don't care about being accepted by any of the group of people Which is true as well of being non binary and Trans and you know occupying all. I'm spices song. Yes was bullshit just because just because the prefix by means ten means that people can really like so fixate on the Ron and going Oh do you know what this represents people and people more complicated than that? By definition you probably would identify as being panned. But you'll just quite happy using by sexual stuff is just like the underdog. I just wanted to defend the word bisexual. Rarely saw stay with it and also I just saw a fought for inside and outside to me. That's because it's you're yourself as well an fought for it for so long about. Just give it all you know so. We'll just fight the case for because there's a lot of sex was out there but the core find not enough people put their head over the parapet and go. Yes me. I'm bisexual. Well exactly. Yeah and especially when you've got a platform if you perform in some sense because you don't know that she giovanna you're gonNA pay the rent Matassa if you like. Oh Yeah Bisexual and the streets you folks on what Stacey Wipe People's so it was sort of come to the conclusion that you were by social what was like my first crush was multiple. Was on tremendously Sasi. Yeah like h three with multiple. I was very very politically correct when it was on the way. Multiple glomma model lovable and Rambo. Rambos Rob Rumba Joe Jr so take like Kinsey. You know it was the people you love some crushing Mongo. I'm moms what you call this. Big Massive St that Intel from the way of Santana big massive tape Zack. Were get so plus plus two. What about the guests that was in there with the group? I was as a Christian Catholic blaster as well. Okay well. This is moving into a whole news. Fair inanimate objects as well well you'll stay. There was just so didn't have any I mean. I think I haven't changed that much since I've lived like quite hard life but in another way quite charmed life because of never rarely socialized. I've never had an office job. I add my parents who great I was never really told off. Fancying ghetto blaster. So we're never stops at quick fair enough check. And you're the first person that's come out. Mister trump's object today like you. I didn't know that you sexually with age child. You wouldn't really so. When was the first time you sort of articulated that and said maybe to your family or someone that union Joran advance and Brooke signs and at been getting the balls up phrases. Well I should suppose that was some some of whom Ananta parents and it didn't say to them moms odds I'm bisexual because it sounds to sexual you know like even just saying the words something sexual Siemens feels embarrassing society as well. He's just embarrassed. The rivalry so aside at the the girl saying I'm not my friends. That's my girlfriends. Go thirteen year. But she wasn't she didn't really like me. That's why USC skips over at nine nine thousand virus so you were having a relationship with not just it was you liked to. I live in a world of delusion. It's like even citizens vets-go angle most the most the reality of this because one year reis from performing you re rice life the narratives in your own life because you use it using the angle. What really happened so at thirteen? There was a girl at school. Presumably that you liked. Did you tell her that you know I was studying like everyone I think is? Is that my sexuality? Always been like a won't the elicit thing on the saying I'm not meant today once a Catholic school. So maybe that's so you're not meant to go out with women but then once so as like very established in the lesbian community. It's like Oh you're allowed to go out with women now. So that's not fun anymore for how Lesbians Hate is shackled men. Let's go to that and then once it was like Oh Giannis just bisexual or okay. So now I'm allowed to Shag out everyone on so where to go. Now so did you. Really get flack from les pins than for food. Let me yeah. Yeah Yeah I was angry. Sort of twenty something. You get more people on the late. I didn't see you face. Those quad knock ECOWAS land. I wasn't this wonderful chairman. Of course you got loads of like bi phobia. I go threatened and stuff life performance pride and do stuff about bisexuality and go like threatens and the Beer Garden say threatens me and you know when you think Oh my God. I'm going to get my kicks usually annoyance and like some people get an annoys for being in Chris Vices or existence in general and then you got like straight people alike. Think just think that it means the Kinky and you WanNa go fronts while I watch so. Why is it so difficult for people to comprehend? I've never really understood. It's just proud. People love binary is learning. People are obsessed with like extremes. The idea that the world's and people are just very gray area and everything's fluid scares the shit our people because humans needs the categorize things like pick a solid any side. Exactly you feel miserable. Yeah it's just don't give a Shit. Choose one very very similar to the football analogy. Yeah it's interesting. I know why phobia exists. I've certainly dated a lot bisexual. Men over the years and a half off lesbian friends. Turn around and go Emma. Why are you bothering? Yeah and the assumption is. They'll never commit to you. Because in the end of the day they will go up and find him on these sump. Shen and then I guess in straight world. The assumption is for men that you're going to go off and leave them for women so you can just want you have kinky sacks. Yeah yeah difficult so you haven't told me yet. The conversation over brookside. What happened to be here for us? So let's go back in time and they were just like okay. It wasn't a difficult kid but I was fucking whimsical. You know thought could fly. It was a more lowest much so they were just like okay okay. I think they saw us. It was a phase but because it was a faizy kid not because they were pricks. And you said you couldn't say reverse bisexual. So how did he phrase it? What did he say? I sat this girl. I such as my girlfriend but then you start talking about what she really Alfred portion on you have to keep coming out so it was. It was years I was being bisexual. I would say it was bisexual swell the people and then Owens University and I was so excited about joining and it was just the algae bay then feel old. I was so excited about being around people and then I got there and it was like Oh okay. You know survival instincts that sends us and you like folk. I should say. Espn so then. There was a lesbian to try. And Fa these people are whenever fest with anyway so it was more of a class thing than a sexual thing but anyway he didn't think that except you. And they phoned me up in the middle of the night and said go to your apple store and wait in line, and we will pay and this is why people say you, and I on friends because you didn't do that for me. I don't recall you calling me in the middle of the night NASCAR. I would've answered tales had fought William I would've answered and said will you again, I would have picked up, but I I was in line and I was in line with play of kid and play which was nine hundred nineteen eighties rap duo. So you at half had this kid of kidding play. Play. It was almost a house party in line at the apple store you had play you weren't kit. No kidding get. Lisa was kidding? I got you. I got to there. Yes. It had to be set. Okay. So you went into did you get that? I've got the case on mine, and I really liked that case the original case was that sort of heat sealed black folio thin. Yeah. It was a bit grubby now after all these years. To begin with. They really came into their own with the silicone and the the magnetic smart case smart cover. Yes, I had one of those on an ipad. But I think I got one for the I was giving his present on. I think I was given for the wrong. I Pat so it kind of works, but it didn't quite work. So I have fun memories. At the original. But this will sausage with memories of the MAC. Well, so Stephen sign off sqi who is who is now a venture capitalist. But he was for a time the lead in charge of the windows program. I was actually the time of windows vista windows seven he was recounting online not too long ago about using the first MAC, the one twenty eight k Mak for school papers. And he said, you know, the first first time he had us using its right? And he spent his second semester recovering all of his MAC right documents because they became corrupt when he used to too much formatting and had too many characters in them. The five twelve k Mak the fat Mack. The second could not come soon enough for him. Yes. Fat Sawyer run up inside head-on evidence of the line. That's. Mac launches and changes the world eventually, yes. One of the reasons for that was that it was too slow at the start. But look where it has brought us all on the wonderful MAC. Absolutely. Absolutely. You know, and that was one of the interesting things as those early max, especially let's say around the nineteen ninety s we're doing networking and doing local chat and things like this that that windows machines really weren't at that time. No, not rolling through sailings pulling. Oh, what would the cable have been? And didn't net. You're pulling co ax the some of the word for it's when the haze. I've ADP ports. Right. So you're doing talk apple talk. That's that was it. Yes. Yeah. We're into the ceilings that was I was younger. Then clearly locked her presumably. Yeah, I'm younger than that. Now. But. That's that's you know, a lot of things are happening. You know, one of the things in the US. That's happening is Apple Pay is finally turning on at most of the retailers that recalcitrant and refusing to do it still fund that hard to get us because it's so prevalent hat. I cannot think of a single place I've been to buy anything where I didn't pay that pay for any reason other than just didn't want to only on different account..

"I said once that there was no need for screen better bigger than the original MAC five twelve k Mak one twenty eight. I said that's green was big enough. Why would you need anything bigger said? There was no need to ever have color. I still would you looking for visionary statements. You know, I listened to Alex Lindsay. And I'm always fascinated by how he'll say, you know, what I really need. I need a pan. That knows how hot it is. That will tell the different sides of the panda heat all evenly, and then send information back to me about what my omelette has done. I never thought about that. But that'd be cool. No vision like that whatsoever. No vision whatsoever. I am you know, I understand what we have today. Kind of. And boy, it's can be fun tomorrow kids here. But I have no idea. What it is what it means. Okay. Well, then this makes my last question both kind of ridiculous. But then also I'm curious what your answer would be Tim calls you tomorrow and says you're in the driver's seat. Where would you like for happened ago and originally I thought oh this'll be really insightful. But now, I'm thinking this might be good for a laugh. Well, actually, I'm going to go against something. You told me you told me not to pre- prepare my answers. But I was a guest on the quad cast at he has two very similar question. He said if you could be the puppet master Tim for the day. What would you have do? And so I had a prepared answer for that. I'm going to cheat us again, I would have if it could be my fantasy world this isn't a real reality. But my fantasy world would be when you bought a MAC, you got to choose the kind of keyboard you wanted so that you would shut up about whether it's good or bad to the world. You wouldn't have to talk about it. But there would be repercussions to your choice. So when you buy the MAC, if you say, okay, I want it to be clicky with with lots of travel. It would suddenly be an inch and a half thick, and it would twelve pounds. But if you said, hey, I wanted to be really light and thin. You would get a really bad keyboard that you could barely type on but you had to live with it. It was your own decision. And you had to shut up about it. That's what I want him to invent next because you will never find it.
