He's hiring us. Special prosecutor to go after cops does that have an effect on morale? It has had a horrible effect on morale, and no officers are scared to do their job. They're still doing it. We're putting these people in jail. But, you know, also have that thought in the back of your mind if something bad happens, you know, I have a district attorney that that's going to go after me. A lot of these are just their errors. Um, either Accidents or it's just, uh, you know, the officer felt like their life was endangered State law is very clear. You can protect a person or your own person. Um, if you're an affair of serious bodily injury or death That's what's happened in these situations. But they want you They would tell you privately they want you to be shot before you fire back. They don't say that in public now because I know there would be beat up. But that's how they feel. Ken Cassidy from the Austin Police Association, when I looked through the list of crimes, you know the the murders we've had in the aggravated assaults when I run through some of those lists, and I do keep track of a lot of these As the weeks and months go by. It appears to me. That young people of color and women Are the most of their victimized in this uptick in crime. Yeah, I'm gonna have an I can send you numbers today pulled on them yesterday on who are the victims of murder and who commits murder and it really stands out and you know, it's a city really cared about brown black kids. And that's where you'll find, you know, people in political office, the direction that movement Yeah, but they are by a long shot the victims of violent crime Minister. Hey, Ken, I've got a question we're hearing about. Y'all are kind of being forced to let the Lake patrol go. What? What exactly does that mean? Does that mean that literally there will be no law enforcement presence on Lake Austin? After the summer. I know they've extended it out until least I believe it's August or September. But once the kids go back to school, I suspect you'll see or there's a possibility of the late patrol being taken back in our district representatives and our guys to get out there and work on Violent crime. They're called Metro attack. Um all of them. And I was in that unit for five years before I promoted and your best in unit that goes after street crime, You know, but strong armed robberies, drug dealers, um, prostitution and the various array of offences and all those Officers are going to be sent back to patrol in August in this August 1st and will no longer have a met to attack units who are commanders use it to attack crime issues in their district. I am in need, You know, whites and and then various different products, hygiene products, water. Um, just to do their job down there, and we're collecting those things. And, um, our association hall will be a collection side here in the near future for people to drop off items that we can take down to the troopers down there on the border. "Melinda is off and running. She'll be back on Monday. Couple of days of well deserved time off for Melinda Brandt. If you're just joining us, we're talking about President Biden's vast expansion for the federal government. And in particular, we're focused on the tuition free community College for everyone in America. If Congress approves that, and we're also now just getting into this debate that's going on in the state capital here in Austin about constitutional Kerry of firearms, and I know you're getting text messages on that. When Archie Kenny pro and Con Yes, mark, here's one writes, come with responsibility. Removing the responsibility to become educated about a gun is not appropriate in the That we live in where responsibilities missing was so many and then another one right behind that. I'm sick of the disinformation. The only thing you learn in the concealed carry class is Texas laws and some situational awareness does not does not teach proficiency. Or handling. It's interesting that these police chiefs had this news conference this morning at the state Capitol. The timing is interesting because earlier this week governor Greg Abbott was very clear. He will sign a bill into law when it gets on his desk. He had been somewhat noncommittal on this issue, and he was very bold and very strong a couple of days ago. In fact, he said. That there is good progress under way in the Legislature to get this done in the house and the Senate and he will be signing it. He he just flat out, said it will become law and I found it interesting that he's taken that position after. As you said Mark, he seemed to be of not taking a position because the winds blowing from the Senate here in the Legislature, I think it's lieutenant governor, Patrick said. I'm not so sure about this, and I wonder if Governor Abbott said. You know what now would be a good time for me to say. I'm all in because regardless if it doesn't ever become law had come to his desk. He can at least go out on the campaign trail and say I was all for it, Everybody. Do you think Abbott did that? To put some pressure on Patrick in the senator's Because you're right. Patrick had been saying We don't have enough votes to bring it to the Senate floor for a vote. I think that's certainly you could say There's some political calculation going on there. Yeah, I think so. Here are the numbers 51283605 90 call or text us. We are live and local. Robert wants to come in on this idea of tuition Free community college for everyone. Hey, Robert, welcome. Hey, thank you. Good show today and I'm glad to hear you talking about this topic. Thank you, sir. I disagree with the with the college tuition Idea. Number one. Uh, Students will not come into that situation with a vested interest. They will come in thinking it's a freebie. And any time you think something is a freebie, you're not going to appreciate it. Number two in the main, the main four point is that I think it's basically a teacher pay off the national education. Association payoff but by Biden by doing this, and even now, when we look at what's going on in high schools You know, students are not coming out and not have Constand on some good evidence on this. Students are coming out of high school, not being able to read or or to perform. And a high accountable way or inadequate way in writing and math. And so I think, For the most part, it's And even now, if we look at the evidence that's before us graduating students from high school are not a not actually performing above or in a in a way that reflects a good education that they have received. So all right, Robert. Gotcha. Thank you that That's an interesting point, Kenny a few years ago, I read that. 30 to 40% of the freshman at UT Austin are required to take remedial training in some of those fields that Robert was just talking about. Now. Think about that. That's our flagship university. 30 to 40% need remedial training in some of these areas like math and English. That's a good point, and the caller also said some about maybe it's he's throwing a bone to the teachers. You know, that could be right Mark. I mean, when he was when Biden was on the campaign trail, he was talking about free four year college, So he's kind of come off of that campaign. Promise a little bit here already. That's that's not being mentioned a whole lot. But s So he's saying, Well, I can say I'm offering two year but I can't do the whole four year like that originally promised. So Maybe that maybe is trying to us find some middle ground there with the teachers unions. Biden is saying this this will get done for $250 billion or so. That's what he is estimating, but What if we have a tsunami of people taking Biden up on this offer, and we have swelling enrollments? That means we need to hire more faculty. We have to build more campus buildings. Uh, what does that do to the cost? It goes through the roof and again, not to harp on this. But if some states choose not to participate or not to participate at the level that they once were, and in terms of trying to help With tuition for kids and community colleges, then that leaves an even bigger hole that somebody's gonna have to fill on. You know, that's gonna be Mark hurts when you laugh. Can he just pointed at me, and he's right. It'll be me. It'll be you on all our listeners, right? Uh, David, Welcome to K. L B. J. How are you? David? How are you, gentlemen? Sorry. I'm in a bad area of bad reception, but Thank you for having this show it Z blessing for all of us that listen to have you on the air. Well, thank you so much. We were kind of the electronic town hall for Austin to talk about these important issues that affect all of us. So what are your thoughts this morning? So I wanted Tol two points one on this. Uh, freeing college of community college and another one on the open. Carry the colleges is more of a question. Um, I believe we get packed for a sec on our property taxes. On. Good question I had was well is that tax can be taken off the people and the federal government's gonna pick up the tab and pay for everything you know. Is it gonna just also still maintain their They're still going to collect them. There's another burden on the people. Um, it was kind of my question concern that no, it will not go away because his Kenny and I have been indicating. Biden is saying 75% of this would be covered by federal taxpayers. 25% still picked up by the states, which means you the local property tax payer. Yeah, That's what I figured that there never Never text never go down, so they always go up. No, no, they don't. And if we have ah, large number of people who say sign me up for this that that will mean higher demand for property taxes to pay for all. Absolutely I agree. And you know, like A lot of people I know right now They're getting unemployment. Let me just go to school, Get unemployment and get free schooling. Sounds like a sweet deal where a lot of people Well, and certainly some people will see it that way. You're right, David. Quick comment on the constitutional Carrie. Solis is here producing where live and local 51283605 91 of the stories were discussing is the parents who are suing the Robin Hood trading platform have done their first interview. They spoke with CNN. And they maintain that their 20 year old college stunned son who committed suicide last June would be alive today of Robin Hood had live customer support. They did not their son. They believe panicked when he thought he owed $730,000 took his own life. And now they're suing Robin Hood. Dani has some thoughts on that. Hey, Donny, Welcome to K. L B. J. Good morning. Hey, Good morning, guys. Love you'll love the show. Thank you, Dani. First off a quick weather update. I just drove from the huddle area towards Georgetown. That's already looking pretty nasty out there a little mix of rain and sleet, Snow, slushy type stuff All Marty had nowhere to go and pick the kids up since it looks like it's gonna get worse. Seven in Yeah. Yeah, So anyway, yeah. I'm agreeing with the parents on this. The news article I read with a little background, but I think it was just a generic one off of Fox News was that he was dabbled in. They had a little bit right after high school had saved up some grandma and Grandpa money about five grand. In just money he had saved over the years in high school. And then after that dabbled in with with the Robin Hood and putting some of his money in there, and the problem with the customer service was he When he saw the problem, he tried to start reaching up to the customer service. Email and was just getting those generic. A. We've received your email and somebody's looking into it. Responses and not being able to talk to somebody in person could have eliminated because I think either the day over the day after that he took his own life. He got a response back saying, Oh, that was our problem. We screwed up. It wasn't, uh, correction. That was a correction that could have been made early on and they finally fixed it, and it turned out he did Noah's much money as you thought. So there was a problem on their on Robin Hood's side. That could have been fixed easier if he could have had somebody there to talk to in person, And I'm not sure if there was any disclaimer at the beginning, but Robin Hood Advertises as first time investors. You don't need any, uh, background or anything. That's what they advertised for, so they're looking for those younger first time. New to the investment world to be able to do that, and that's what they advertised to. So I do think that they should be held accountable for their actions and that e. Can't agree with that 20 years old. You should know that you don't have to do that. Robin Hood has not forced anyone to sign their APP has not forced to anyone. To invest their money. And especially invest over what you know you can pay back. They're not forcing it. Have they allowed it? It sounds like yes, they have. But they're not forcing. It still was a decision by that 20 year old to get into it and to bet Risk more money than he had. He is an adult under the law. He can vote He can be. He can enlist. Yes, but, Dani, you're inclined to say the parents have a justifiable claim, and they're entitled to compensation. Well, he's gone. I guess he's scared that on you when you get to drive safely out there. Thank you. Donnie 51283605 90. John is on K. L b J Hey, John. Good morning. How are you? Doing great guys Love the show. Like the last dollar set. Uh, quick weather update. Guys. We drive 40 like I just did from downtown Austin to the city of Colleen. It's gonna take you a while to get there. But you're not gonna be like the idiot spun out of the bar ditches that tried to pass you 60 0. Yeah, I like the report. Leander. Police put out that said y'all driving out here like you're gonna be late to work. You're gonna hit some ice and you ain't gonna make it to work so slow down, man. On this Robin Hood deal, You know, society need to take a step back, and they need to start thinking about one philosophy and the philosophy is we have to stop trying to prepare the road for our Children and start preparing our Children for the road ahead of Bill and so placing blame on everybody else and a lack of customer support. Guys. I'm nearly 40 years old. I don't understand the stock market. My wife trades and In Robin Hood. I don't know anything about it, so I don't don't touch it. I don't wanna I don't wanna take the risk because I know it is a risk Anytime you do in the stock market, it's a risk history shows that it's a risk. S so I don't believe that The parents have any claim whatsoever. And in fact, I think they're just jumping on this latest event that happened with Robin Hood to try to get you know it appeal to emotion, Sympathy. Out of out of everybody. And you know that I heard about the situation as a 20 year old guy who is in college. I would imagine he understands there are risks involved, but He was trying to make a lot of money in an easy way. It's very alluring. You think you can trade on a nap and make a lot of money quickly. You know when I was 17 and I wanted to make money. I got a waiver and enlisted in the army. But I didn't try to get rich over over. You know, quick, overnight out, right? I mean, it's very alluring to go toe Los Vegas and hope you hit it rich on the craps, table, blackjack or or the slot machines. Exactly So, like I said, there's me to quit trying to blame everybody else and take some responsibility. You know? Sounds to me like the parents didn't educate that young man. Well enough. And while I empathize with them that he took the rowdy did you know, uh, we're trying to place blame on everybody else. All right? You be careful out there. Thank you. John 51283605 90 Here again is Dan Kearns, the father. He spoke to CNN about the lawsuit against Robin Hood. Hey says there are a number of problems with their system number one. They do not have live telephone customer support. And number two. They really don't have enough restrictions on who's allowed to engage.

"In this space. But anyone who handles the security and has a long term time horizon. Is in the green right now. With Bitcoin. In the green. In the cream to the tomb of some cases. We've seen people make over $100 million In the last decade. You know the pullback. What we're seeing right now. I mean, in the last couple weeks, Bitcoin hit 40 thousands of 34,000 right now, you know, this is just part of the fluctuations. And if any asset class That we could invest in where a small is Bitcoin. You would have this much volatility, if not more. So You know, I haven't looked at this in the past few weeks. And it changes a lot, but Bitcoin The asset class is not even Worth a trillion dollars. Hey, Stocks are approaching. Maybe, like 100 Trillion. Globally. Real estates like 202 150 Trillion, Okay, Bitcoin. Is a $0.8 trillion asset class. So any time somebody puts millions of dollars in or out of it, that makes the market Move. There's a lot of well traders out there a lot of people early in the game that can manipulate the market. But the number one rule. In my view, all my view, If you're looking at this is to be very conservative with the amount that you want to invest and to have a very long term perspective. And security front and center focus on protecting that asset. So you know, as it's you know, I think it's funny in a way because as I've watched Bitcoin from the sidelines as a spectator early on I'm willing to bet that That a lot of us Have been excited about an investment, you know, unipolar. Oh, you know the idea on getting on something or getting in on something early. And it's in these Seasons where we see these huge spikes, you know Bitcoin from 3000 and 19,000 all the way back down. And then you know 9000 to 40,000. This is when people really start, you know, asking about it and want to invest in it, but I don't really understand. What it is. And you know, there's there's been these dry spells along the way. When it comes to this space. We've seen it kind of in these four year kind of cycles. And I want to walk you through that today. Give you again some better insight. Into the space that is getting a lot of attention. That many have dismissed us think it was going to go away a long time ago. And yet it's still here. It's really more of just been kind of waiting for the opportune time and This past week. There has been a lot of news in the No news and headlines. I guess I should say around, you know, real disruption and Star market the equity markets If you haven't listened this radio station this weekend, you may not know what I'm talking about. But if you have, um yeah, it's been nonstop. It's all around the game stop and You know how they took Over the hedge fund, and I was fun, you know, went bankrupt. Instead of taking a moment and taking in the frustrating level that was just shown there, we need a security for this individual's. That's what she said. And then she said, to all of you waiting your turn to come inside and speak to us. Don't do that. She admonished them, like shared them. Scolded them in the hallway. It's gonna be just a few days, maybe a week, but they can't limit Trump's defense. I mean, much time to defend those accusations is anything he's got two Thanks. He made a speech where he called for peaceful demonstrations. On. Also, they had now evidence that there's been plenty of playing pre planning for this whole attack and also he has a has evidence There's plenty of evidence available of election irregularities throughout the country. If they're saying Well, it's not enough. Don't turn the election. It's probably not. But he has the right to Tomo present evidence of voter irregularities to that trial, So I mean, this could go on for a while Stopping. Listen to this film, Melinda. Has an idea for President Trump's team radio. Remind me a lot. My ideal was your idea is based on what Phyllis saying The Democrats are all saying, Okay, we want to go rapid fire. We want to get onto the Biden agenda. We're wasting time here, and Trump should tell his attorneys talk very slowly drying out. They could go off on a full and thorough defense if it Takes 21 days like the first time that it takes 21 days but be extremely thorough with what you have to present so that I know I was defended to the fullest. So if you would like to call or text or get in touch You got to do it before show ends at 11 today instead of 12. So 51283605 90 color text that number or toll free 8775 90 55 25 Um, So I got this other text that says Hi, Shirl. Do you see if composting flowering perennials with mushroom compost? Will promote growth and not flowers, Phil. Phil. It's a sort of a nice time release fertilizer. It's probably not what I would put on flowers. I think it would be good for just about anything else. It's a little bit more nitrogen than maybe I would suggest, however, it's a very gentle form. The one thing you don't want to do is is use it on acid loving plants like azaleas and stuff. So if you got some of those In a special area. You don't wanna use mushroom compost on that because it's a little Chuckie. Um, so but, yeah, it's it's a pretty good, you know, Compost. Um But I just don't know if I'd used it on mine. I just think I'd rather use a just a good balance Compost. That you can you know by there's a lot of people that make it around here, too. And Austin so Okay, Let's see. There's a better picture of that plant that was under the Three. Huh? It does look like a little oak tree. You know it was talking about this is coming up under there. Red oak tree. It looks like Almost like oak suckers. But you know what else looks like that? Is gum. Elastic Tree by Amelia Linux. Jinno So gum elastic. Looks exactly like that. Um, however, typically doesn't have green leaves on it this time of year. Although it could be a young sprout up, Um It looks like it's a very woody stand. Which leads me to believe these are suckers. It could be that there had been an oak tree nearby. That then you said yours a Red oaks. So this is obviously not a red oak. But it's Very possible that they are. Do you have any? Why votes? That would be a good question, if there live oaks in the area. It again. The other thing is, is this tree we called gum elastic. It's always mistaken for a live oak. Unless you know exactly what you're looking at. It looks just like a live oak. The difference is is it gets bigger? Sometimes it has modified thorns. Esso like not brutal thorns, But you know, some of the ends of the little limbs on a gun elastic can have a thorny field to them. Kind of a prickly So if you can, if you you know, squeeze this little plant with your hands if it Has a little bit of Ah, prickliness to it. It could be a gum elastic, although at this young age, it may not have developed it, but I think that's what it is. It's it's either a note leaf. A live oak sucker or More likely a gum elastic tree. So thanks for seeing me a better image That really, really helps a lot so Okay. I think I've gone through all the text here. Um Yeah, nearly but Tex spongy cut. S so anyway, if you have any other questions or comments we do have lines open will be here until 11 today instead of till 12. It's just one of those days. There's not a lot going on this time of year. I know it. Although we are very busy building building building our for our landscape clients. So there's a lot you can do this time of year. One of main things you could do is go ahead and get in touch with your landscaper. If you want a job done this spring because We are booking up fast and You know, it takes a while. As you've heard me say, to turn around a good design, and you can't just mean the minute it starts getting to be march. The phones will start ringing. People will want things done and you know by next weekend, and that is just not possible. So there's a lot of planning that goes into landscape jobs. And a lot of hunting around finding the plants. You know everything from the design process to the you know, actually scheduling an installation can it's a good you know, can take time to turn it around. So I mean, we try to do it as fast as we can, obviously, but And also our clients. We will do. Uh, what we call enhancements for our clients are good clients that we've done Jobs for in the past, will No bear kind of quarterly basis, usually in either add plans to compost. You may be a little cutting back of things, you know, maybe they want some seasonal color. Maybe they needed air, raided and top dressed and all that kind of stuff. But we typically do that for our clients because we're not really maintenance company were a construction, you know, design build. That's good company. However, this time of year is when just for you, you know homeowners. If you want to go out and get yourself some fruit trees and stuff. This is when the bare root fruit trees come in, and I can't emphasize enough that you have to be aware of your Uh, cultivars that are appropriate for your county. Your area where you live? Four dead police injured and dozens arrested after siege at the U. S Capitol and I've seen a very similar headline throughout the morning. I've even heard it on some of the network newscasts on the radio and TV and when they say four dead Your immediate impression is what Melinda when you hear that is that all that died were part of those storming the Capitol like the lady that was shot and killed that all of them died along the same circumstances, which We don't know a lot about the other three deaths, except for they were medical emergencies that took place on the Capitol grounds. Yes, outside of the Capitol building. What One person was killed inside the Capitol during the violence, the 35 year old female Air Force veteran who served 14 years in the U. S military, who was shot to death Uh, So D. C officials are saying the other three were medical emergencies right? And they didn't expand on that, uh, to tell us what that means, but they were on the grounds of which could mean a number of different things. Eyes. It's sad that they lost their life yesterday. Yes, but I'm not sure that it's fair to put them in. Uh, the same sentence or in the same breath as the lady that was shot and killed trying to get into the capital. They may have died even if there were not the violent use of force to get into the capital yesterday. They might have had a heart attack or something without that, But we were talking before the half hour news break on how many Americans have a lower level of trust in our key institutions? One of those is the media and the press, and we in the media need to be very careful about headlines and what's reported. And try to be accurate because this clearly gives a lot of people the impression that four people died inside the Capitol building yesterday during the violence. Yes, And that's been the problem. I think to me. I feel like one social media came on board. That was the problem is you're trying to put into words a story that is In his few words as possible as the headline That's kind of provocative so that you can get people to click on it and read your story. And I e. I feel like this is where social media has changed the way the journalist report because it's all about getting those 45 bold letters out there just to get people to read the story and then you know Will bear out the facts eventually, somewhere within the story, But it's all about grabbing the attention. And if people don't click to read the entire story, and they re just that headline they then form what that headline says, is what happened. Just like that one that you just said four dead? Um, it does. If that's all you read, you would go Oh, my goodness. Four people died in that storming of the capital. Whatever you want to call it that occurred yesterday. In that to me, it is very misleading and it's It's not fair Reporting. All right, let's go to East. Austin. John. You're on K. L. B. J with Mark and Melinda. Welcome, John. Yeah. Yes. You know where your thoughts Good morning. Well, thank you for taking the call. I was mentioning to one of the reptile person that after the phone is that you know, I'm not going to be correct, and it's very simple. I feel that the both sides They all have their hands in the cookie job. This is what they've been fighting Donald Trump for four years because he was the outsider and he wasn't beholding to anyone and he was able to ruffle feathers. And it's real simple to you can look back in my lifetime. I'm 16. I've been voting to Ronald Reagan. When have you ever seen five states at one time Shucker the polling And if that doesn't show that it was organized, I don't know what else anybody can put. What? Whatever, Okay? Because the ending alot information voter can say what is that? So, John, look into your crystal ball. What? What do you see happening over the next few weeks the next few months. Where do we go from here, John? Well, I think really, you know, for for lack of a better term that you know the country is very divided. But I also think If you look at the numbers, and they say that 17% of the Or actually, it was it 70. You know, the black voter the You know the Latino vote so much of it went over from the Democratic Party. And if you look at the numbers You know Hillary Clinton in the last election that 65 3 million more than Donald Trump. Okay. And then you're you're having Like what?.

When you say cut off to me that makes in my mind. I'm seeing that car is now in front of the vehicle. Yes. So what is he saying that the driver reaches is now Out of the window, pointing the gun backwards towards him. Or leaning to his right. He's cut him off, and the driver turns to his right and is pointing a gun right at the officer who's sitting in his car, and he stopped. Uh, he I don't know. That how that scenario works out to me, though. You gotta know what you are shooting at. Every bullet that comes from your gun you are responsible for I cannot see blindly shooting into a vehicle not knowing a there's a two month old baby in the back seat. There's a passenger in the front seat. He didn't know any of that. Yes. And so he went into shooting into this into this vehicle blindly. Pretty much is what I'm hearing. I don't know that I agree with that. All right. We will keep you up to date on this. There may be more coming out today. Uh, the relative who appeared on the scene last night told K X A N that the 27 year old who was shot and killed by police in her words. Had a troubled past but was changing and doing better. And she does not believe that he was reaching for a gun in the car when he was shot by the officers on the scene, So the officers were supposed to take a chance at that officer saw a gun pointed at him. They're thinking weapon. He's reaching in there. That's that's a whole to me. This is too. This is a tale of two different scenes.
