One of my callers said he was concerned that Senator cotton have been on our morning show on K R N and didn't sound like he thought the president had much of a path. Going forward. The win this thing Yeah, that didn't sell right to me. Because I've said Consistently. If we let them steal is obvious Landslide for President Trump. I don't know how we come back from that. But a lot of times. I don't get up early enough to hear interviews in the morning show, so I hadn't heard that one. So we got it and we play the relevant part back on my show, and it began with our morning show host asking Senator Tom Cotton If it was time for the president to accept a Biden win and move on. And so let me see. I don't know if I get the volume right in this, but But here we go. Here was central Cotton's response. We had a huge election in.

"We do have some breaking news. President Trump is planning to delay. Imposing tariffs on auto imports this affecting the European markets. It was expected that on Friday. He could announce another round of tariffs on European automakers. We're seeing shares up the eighty hours the American depositary receipts up almost three percent after being down earlier on this new, Sean. Donovan our chief trade correspondent for Bloomberg news. Joining us now for a little bit of context. Sean how surprising is this move. What we've been moving this way for for for a couple of weeks, and you really need to look at it in the context of the escalating dispute with China. This oughta terrorists are things that would hit mainly the EU and Japan, which are two big sources of imports of cars and parts and this is heavily opposed by the. Industry as well. So while Donald Trump is X escalating his fight with with with China in recent days. The appetite escalate fight with allies at the same time. So how important is this for the European and Japanese automakers per se was this a big issue for them. This was an immense issue for them. Both dime layer and BMW export a lot of cars to the United States. But they also big manufacturing facilities in the United States that rely on a supply chain that comes out of Europe. And in some cases, Asia likewise for Toyota and also some of the big South Korean producers. So this was a real fundamental hit to their to their business model in the United States and their coach to to a big market. We shall also say, however that this plan this idea of imposing tariffs was also opposed heavily by the the big Detroit three GM Ford and Fiat Chrysler, Shaun. Donovan Bloomberg trade reporter, thank you so much joining us with some commentary on the trade news coming out that President Trump will delay trait. Tariffs on imported cars. Bloomberg markets is brought to you by common. Financial network. The r I a broker dealer. That's one that JD power award for highest independent advisor satisfaction among financial investment firms. Five times in a row. Visit Commonwealth dot com. Well, clearly, the volatility in the markets has spiked in the last couple of weeks Vic's is now of eighteen from recent lows to get a sense of how to manage his fall tilting. We welcome George Young George is partner and portfolio manager at villa refunds about two billion dollars under management based in New Orleans, but George joins us here in our Bloomberg interactive brokers studio, so George welcome. Thanks for being here. How do you and your partners manage volatility again, we've seen a kind of spike you over the last few weeks? How typically do you manage the volatility in your portfolio? Well, it is difficult to do. I think the important thing is for investors to remember that investing in general is a patient exercise. And so it's important for people understand over the long term. They need to make sure that they understand what they're buying. And why they're buying a good example of that is the volatile that we saw the fourth quarter of. Two thousand eighteen in contrast to the bolt Mark that we've had in the first quarter of this year. It's important for people know that there are a lot of macro factors that are looking great for long term investing. And if you think of it that way that would include low interest rates that include promising earnings that would include a strong domestic economy respective of the trade wars it were saying right now, so George is sort of interesting because as you speak banks in particular are taking it on the chin today. And I was looking at some of the stocks that you like and one of them is a Bank stock your any financial, which trades his K R N Y. And I'm just wondering how much of a case is there to own the shares of Bank right now. Given the fact that we're seeing inverted curve on the three months ten year side and low yields all around, right? That's a good question. One of the things it's important. Remember with them is how fishing they are at operating. They've got a two percent yield. It's very consistent. They are a recapitalized in Bank, which means. They can be bought out in due course. There are small Bank. They're only a big in and a half dollars market cap. So it looks to me that something like that extremely consistent. They don't have any high risk loans. They've got a charge off ratio point. Oh, two percent. So the very efficient in the mortgages that they that they have their portfolio and the loans they determined to make so long term. It's great. It's not your typical Bank of America. That's what we like something like the small cap area. So George what are we have this pullback in the market of all the markets kind studying here a little bit today. But we have a pullback in the market whether it's just in the last couple of weeks or whether it was back in the fourth quarter. Where were where are you putting cut new money to work? What are sectors that you like this point? Well, there a number of good sectors investment in information technology, for instance, that's an important sector to look at and that again dominates the S and P five hundred is a mentioned Carney of something. That's fantastic. Then also Roper technologies which is a mutual fund basically of fifty different investment. Companies fluid handling pumps. They continue to buy their sort of like a mini berkshire-hathaway their cash flow outpaces their net income, so they have additional cash reinvest. It's not an overly expensive stock touchy. When you compare it to interest rate yields right now ten year government two and a half percent. You gotta do better than that Roper can deliver easily. I think a fifteen percent return consistently over the years. You know, George once struggle for a lot of investors has been the whole value versus growth, and as you look into value. It should be that these chairs outperform, and they really haven't in growth really has led the way what makes you think that's going to change. Well, what happens in the investment world is always a regression to the mean, so whatever's in style right now tends to go out of style. And so whether you're talking about one percent, one sector doing well versus another sector, a one type of stock over time there such a plethora. Wonderful investments out there. Timing can be difficult. I'll I'll agree to that. But there's always that regression to the mean. So I think you'll see that switch in due course. George. Thank you so much for being with us towards young partner and portfolio manager at villa refunds overseeing more than two billion dollars normally in New Orleans, but today in our Bloomberg interactive brokers studios, just giving you a sense of the market action. It is a week or day, but not sharply. So an actually the NASDAQ has turned positive up three tenths of one percent. Barely down the S and P now so trying to get a little bit of steam as we have a little bit more positive tone out of President Trump on trade negotiations on those potential tariffs on the auto sector from New York. This is Bloomberg. This is a Bloomberg. Hey, it's flow. And you never understood top hat aren't all hats on top. The like the toughest part.
