Canada Finance Minister Quits Post Amid Charity Scandal

"Look at a chapter of political tunnels. Now here in Canada where yesterday the country's finance. Minister Bill More No. Long one of the prime minister's closest political allies resigned it follows lingering ethics scandal that has surrounded Trudeau's government for some time by this stage well, today a little earlier prime to treat. That Christie Freeland Canada's deputy prime minister would replace bill more now at the finance ministry becoming the first woman to hold that post Donyell. The murmurings around bill more knows future had been simmering hearing the Canadian Press for several days. By the time, his resignation announcement came last night. What's your reaction to? What is yet another high profile resignation from Shudo's cabinets in the five years of says since he took office. Yeah, quite a quite another big controversy four Trudeau in the middle of summer I think you know off the bat whatever reason the liberals are given. Four giving for more knows exit here is a messy one that. It was said that he wouldn't be seeking election. Again, we'll be looking for other opportunities. We know that he'll be looking to helm the AC, which is a great post for him perhaps in a good career move. But at the end of the day, this comes down to. Another sticky situation for the prime minister that really threatens to derail the progress that they've made in. The coronavirus crisis namely their popularity with Canadians. But once again, another distraction for the prime, which raises questions about the ship he sailing and him as the captain let's say. This begs the question of whether Mr Trudeau is simply impossible to work with. Now this is just another controversy that comes only a week Tomasz after we spoke about the last controversy involving. The Governor General Julie Pie itch and the toxic workplace she's been accused of creating butts. The liberals the government to appoint a successor in Canada's first governor of the Bank of Canada and Christina Freelance who held the interesting post of Deputy Prime Minister and not a lot of Canadians were used to to that role before Justin Trudeau but she is his most senior cabinet minister and and now most trusted ally. But that group of People Tomasz as you know is is getting shorter as the months go on. It's seeming time and again, like Trudeau is is just a very tough guy to work with and when he doesn't get his way, well, you get run out of town we should also point out that. Bill, more know. Perhaps. Put. His foot in it and didn't help the situation on on the fact that he wasn't agreeing with the prime minister but we can set that aside they didn't handle that well but also a big controversy besides this is this we charity, of course where. He and his family and the Finance Minister and Bill Maher. Now both have personal and family ties to this charity and should have recused themselves. I don't think that. The, the picture, four Canadians by I think that picture. is becoming more and more for. Canadians. Like. An elite privilege class squabbling over not being able to work together and I think that really does not play well, obviously trudeau lost. His majority after the last election and who knows where it's it's going from here because it doesn't seem like he's going to be able to keep some of his top ministers around for very long?

Canada's finance minister steps down amid pandemic

"Canada's Finance Minister Bill Morneau has announced his resignation following reports of political tension with the prime minister Justin Trudeau. Canadian media say the two men have been a dogs over how to handle the country's economic recovery. After the covert pandemic. Mr Moore knows, said it was time for someone else to take over his job. As we move to the next phase of our fight against the pandemic and pave the road towards economic recovery, we must recognize that this process will take many years. The right time for a new finance minister to deliver on that plan for the long and challenging road ahead. That's why I'll be stepping down as finance minister and his member of Parliament for Toronto center, Mr Morneau and the prime minister have been embroiled in an investigation into a student charity volunteer program in which members of their families received fees.

"justin trudeau" Discussed on Front Burner

"So so you've mapped out this standing connection between Trudeau and the we charity, what are the main points brought forward by the Conservatives and the DP who are pointing to this relationship as a potential conflict of interest. Is calling for emergency hearings before millions of dollars rollouts. It looks like Justin Trudeau helping people who are very close to very good friends of his that. Will certainly benefit from this. They do say that there is a problem here and as I say the prime minister has said you know. My family doesn't receive compensation for this now if you ask the Conservatives. So what's so bad about that right if he's not receiving any money? What's the problem in fact? I asked Andrew Scheer that when I was interviewing him on Friday and he said well look at the audiences I mean Justin Trudeau gets a platform. Thousands of young people that he speaks to a chance to get his message. Benefiting from that certainly benefit every time. Justin Trudeau is given a platform to. Speak with thousands of students there will leave it to the ethics commissioner to determine as he has indicated that there will be an investigation into. You'll pardon me for not taking just drills word. Is that not a connection? And certainly it is one of the issues. That the Conservatives and the EP raised when they reached out to the ethics commissioner. The Ethics Commissioner didn't say that he would investigate all the points that the political parties race, but one of them that he thought at least merited further consideration. Was this idea that Justin Trudeau's personal connection to we might be an issue that will not might be is an issue that he needs to explore more closely. And what do you think the we charity stood to gain by taking on this project? Well, it is a very difficult time for the charitable sector as a whole right now and we we do know I should say I. Know we charity. It's tricky with the pronouns on this one. We laid off a significant portion of its workforce fairly early on in the pandemic and I spoke earlier about the fact that this has been a really tough time for charities, and if you think about what we does, you can understand why this would be especially hard for the what do they do? They're in schools. What shutdown schools they do? weedays thousands of people packed into arenas well, that's not happening for the foreseeable future. They actually have A. A sister company a for profit sister company that does what's often called walling tourism's who sending tourists out into the world, different places in South America Asia Africa where they are doing project in the community. Trying to help that community might be doing something like building a school again. Not a lot of travel going on right now, so the model of we certainly going to be severely affected by the covid nineteen pandemic. They laid off A. A lot of their staff. We did ask them precisely what portion? We did not want to comment on that, but it did tell us that. Because of this contract candidate student service granted was bringing back a portion of its staff on short term contracts, so there's that we doesn't make any profit and the prime minister said this. There's no profit for we in this. Of course, the we charity is a charity turns. Don't make profit and I. I think it's important to make the point that no one is suggesting that anyone was lining their pockets here, but it it gave we work to do and a chance to bring back some staff at a time when the entire charitable sector was struggling, and again the the line from the government on this has been that. We was best equipped to do this job although I will say, there are certainly groups that quibble with that particular assessment. And you mentioned before that Trudeau said that the entity that reached out was the public service. They were the ones that suggested that we charity administer grant. A video message from Mark Kill Burger was. Leaked to the press? Minute announcements. That People may have problems receiving jobs and in that video Massachusetts. PM Oh, reach out to to we directly. And now he did walk back those claims later and say that he was speaking loosely and enthusiastically, and he was incorrect in that and it actually was. An unelected official at employment and Social Development Canada. How central is that question of who reached out to we to forge this alliance? I think we should say I just like give credit where credit is due our colleagues at the National Post that broke that particular story and right to say that. That, we believe it was mark Cuban said that that wasn't what happened. But yes, there are a lot of questions being asked about how the civil service came to this particular conclusion that only this one group could do this. People have said why wasn't it the Civil Service itself they've administered all kinds of other programs over the course of this pandemic Were there not other organizations or perhaps a collaboration of? Of different charitable, not for profit organizations out there that could have done this, and certainly that is one of the places that the opposition parties are trying to apply pressure in the midst of all of this. They're saying basically they're saying. Show us the evidence Mister Prime Minister. The time has come. You keep pinning all of this on the civil service in saying that this is the advice that they gave you. Prove it. Civil servants are going to say that there is no there is no other charity that could come close to matching what we could do. Where is the evidence? Did they do an analysis and so certainly as part of this investigation by the Ethics Commissioner? When we might hope at some point to get a bit more clarity on that, but just because we has backed away from this partnership. Don't expect this issue to go away. Hi! I'm Dr Brian Goldman. Me Available wherever you get your podcasts. I WANNA. Ask You about some of the other criticisms aside from this perceived conflict of interest. Some people have come out and said that the whole idea of paying students for volunteer work. Rub them the wrong way. What kind of criticisms have been hearing? Really on sort of both sides of the equation, you have groups like volunteer Canada, which helps link up people to volunteering opportunities and vulgar candidate has said listen. We gave the government some advice about this program, but we actually said we wouldn't administer it. And part of their concern is that it blurs the line. What does it mean to volunteer as it really volunteering if you're being paid for it? It, can you call that volunteering it at all? On the other side of the equation, you have people including Labor lawyers who say wait a minute when you say you have to work a hundred hours to get a thousand dollars and the way this program works is in those one hundred. Our thousand dollar trashes. So you're either GONNA get one thousand two thousand dollars. Etcetera etcetera to five thousand dollars. Well if you work exactly one hundred hours and get paid exactly a thousand dollars. That's ten dollars per hour. That's less than minimum wage everywhere in Canada and people are saying well. Isn't this actually? A system where we are are underpaying students in.

He worked as a drama teacher. Teaching at times math and French she was involved in kind of youth outdoor activities and there. There's no real indication that that the son of Canada's potentially most famous prime minister really odd deep political yearnings and he actually wrote him the Globe and Mail that yeah I don't read newspapers. Don't watch the news I figure if something important happens. Someone will tell me and I think it was. It was very much Justin Trudeau telling the public public. I'm not the person that my father was despite this treated came more involved with his father's Liberal Party in the early two one thousand and in two thousand seven was selected as their candidate for a safe seat in Montreal they go to the polls for for the leadership race and this is kind of trudeau the against different liberal candidates he just wins by a landslide we say he's taking politics seriously one of his first big political outings an MP in pay in two thousand twelve was in a boxing ring talk.

"Aw aw our guest tonight is the man behind one of the most famous leaks of government secrets in history and what Snowden is joining us on the show everybody the tonight show. Donald trump breaks out his shopping again. Rony Chang finds robots in a bar and Justin. Trudeau has a very duck passed so let's catch up on today's headlines. Let's kick it off with President Trump's trip to the west coast yesterday. The president's popped into California to host some fundraisers talk about housing issues stuck up on edibles but easily the highlight of his trip was getting to visit his favorite trialed the border wall president trump took time from a fundraising trip to visit a chunk of border wall and Otay Mesa California he he met with several construction workers and was invited to sign the wall which he did with a sharpie he boasted about the wall calling it the Rolls Royce of border barriers. It's designed to absorb heat so it's extremely hot. The Wall is you won't be able to touch it so if they're going to climb they're going to have to bring hoses and waters water and we don't know where are they gonNA. Hook it up because there's not a lot of water out here. Do you think you're going to cut it with a blow torch. That doesn't work because you hit concrete. This wall can't be climbed. It's very very hard. We had twenty mountain climbers timers. That's all they do. They love to climb mountains and this was the one that was hardest and so begins season one of Mexican Ninja Warrior the if you forget the xenophobe and all of the racism. It's pretty cute how excited the trump gets about his wall. He reminds me of little kids bragging about what they've built out of Lego. Have you ever seen them. You know what it'd be like a super strong and dishes for the policeman in the camp break and destroy the lasers and the transfer window Mexicans Com. It's funny how trump signed the war with a sharpie like he's worried we're. I'm not gonNA know who built it is so insecure. No other president physically signs their accomplishments like Abraham. Lincoln didn't go up to the slaves like your free now wholesale wholesale there you go now. The problem for trump is that sometimes his enthusiasm actually gets them in trouble because he gets carried away and he says secrets that he's not supposed to one thing. We haven't mentioned as technology. They're wired so that we will know of somebody's trying to break through and you may want to discuss instead a little bit. General Samaritan not discussing it okay like that. That was a great answer. I'll just tell you they're wired okay. They're wired again. Tell me that's not adorable. Trump is so excited about the war that people have to stop him from expanding its weaknesses. There's a door that opens. If you cut the wire right here you cut the right way but we won't tell them as the red one we won't tell them and Kudos Kudos to that God. This is so slick there could be some meriden not discussing that sir. That is the nicest way I've ever heard someone. Say Shut up we should we should all start using that right yeah next time you tell your boss that you've missed work for a funeral and your co workers like what you said you were at the beach. You could be uh-huh there could be some merit in not discussing that Bob Alright. Let's move on to an alarming new report about air travel. It's like coming up. You may want to be careful about what you drained because a new study looked at the water safety from a dozen major airlines and those airlines with the cleanest water are Alaska Airlines allegiant Hawaiian Air Frontier and South West while the dirtiest water is a found onboard Delta American united jetblue and Spirit Airlines. Is that might surprise you right. The study suggests sticking with bottled water on planes and avoiding the coffee and tea. You can also use hand sanitizer instead of washing your hands in the bathroom turns out. If you've been drinking on a plane you'll bowels maybe endanger and honestly this was surprising to me because I always knew that the water in the bathroom wasn't for drinking right. I used to wash your feet but I didn't know that the water they serve you can also be dirty like how does it get that bad. Why do they take the hotels from business. Classes squeeze the water into economies that what they do. Here's like what does that taste so that is the taste of success and that list was pretty interesting as well. You've got an Alaskan at the top and then all the way at the bottom is spirit airlines and I know I know. Some people think spurts should be ashamed that the number ten Chen but to be honest. I was impressed that they have water on their flights. Normally only refreshments on spirit our own tears of regret spur alands Elon's. I'll watch is the least of your problems. Tomorrow Is September twentieth the Big Day when everyone is supposed to raid area fifty one and all those things just started out as a joke it turns out they might actually find something in the US Navy now confirms UFO videos made public by the New York Times and a UFO research group back in two thousand seventeen are the real deal images of that rotating thing captured by US Navy aircraft sensors locking in on the target commander. David Fraser saw it firsthand during training mission describing like a forty foot long tic TAC the ability to hover over the water and then start a vertical climb from basically zero up towards about twelve thousand on fee and then accelerate in less than two seconds and disappear is something I had never seen in my life. The Navy says it still doesn't know what the objects are and officials aren't speculating speculating holy. Shit I hope that's a UFO because it was a giant tick tech giant Texas flying around the sky but would you guys understand what's happening here. The US government is officially confirming officially that in two thousand seventeen the navy saw a UFO and I hope I really. I hope it isn't aliens because it would be really bad time for them to visit Earth. Can you imagine they'll take us to your lead and we'll be like ugh sorry. He's signing a wall right now. That's the headlines. Let's move on top story the Justin Trudeau Canadian Prime Minister and Hot Dad in the Disney channel movie ever since he came into office he has has been embraced as Woke Bay by everyone from liberals all the women and trump's family. I mean look at that if 'cause looking at trudeau the way Takashi six nine looks witness the protection and the reason those have been popular is because he's being a women's rights advocates right. He's been a champion for environmental reforms and he's been very reactive in connecting with minority communities but now we're learning that he may have connected with minority communities a little too much another major story this wanting to re election campaign campaign of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is suddenly in turmoil after a photo surfaced of him wearing brown face. These photo newly discovered discovered by Time magazine shows him in Brown face nearly two decades ago the picture from the two thousand two thousand one yearbook of a private school where Trudeau was. The teacher shows the then twenty nine year old wearing a turban robes and dark makeup. There are so many problems with this photo first of all. It's obviously never okay to do black face and secondly if you are going to talk in your skin at least get the color rights yeah. Rosen dressed as Aladdin. He's dressed. Latin doing black face. That's not the color of a ladder when he join and also to didn't even need the brown face to make the costume work. He's in a full Aladdin outfits. At an Arabian nights themed party. No one was gonNA seem and be like white skin the snowman frozen so time magazine published this photo of Canada's Prime Minister the stuff in Brownfield and in response to Hopton his magic competent stretcher press conference to apologize in two two thousand one when I was a teacher out in Vancouver. I attended an interview gala. The theme was Arabian Nights Way. We dressed up in eleven costume and put makeup. It was something that I didn't think was racist at the time but now I recognize recognize. It was something racist to do. I've always and you'll know this been more enthusiastic about costumes than is is somehow is sometimes appropriate to says he also wore black face for a high school performance where he's saying the Harry Belafonte Song Deo when I was in high school school I dressed up at a talent show and Sang Dale with with with with makeup on this is no good man because you realize what happened here. Trudeau came out to apologize for one black face and ended up admitting to more aw he's like. I did Brown face Aladdin and I did black-faced when I sang the Song Dale and now if you'll excuse me daylights coming and me one goal it's funny. It's also funny how Trudeau says he only did this because because he's more enthusiastic about costumes than is appropriate because besides being problematic it also sounds like Justin Trudeau would be the most annoying person on Halloween alouine. It was like if he commits that much he's wife is like Justin. Have you seen my keys like me. Not Justin me how how have you seen my keys. It keys hopefully ductile and look and look to instances of blackface would be bad enough but it turns out we call this a black face controversy anymore because apparently trudeau has been going full body video uncovered by Global News which which has been verified containing images of Liberal leader Justin Trudeau in black face makeup gets pretty grainy. We are looking at Justin Trudeau in this video you you can see that he has black face makeup on its covering his face neck his arms and hands and you can see between the terrorism jeans there that he also appears to have the make-up down his legs as well he has on his like. He's wearing jeans but he still did the legs. This guy's is committed. 'cause most people do the face but Trudeau was like black neck black back black pussy and black crack. He's like I'm doing all all of its aside from the obvious offensiveness of it. Having black makeup on your entire body Muslim causes a lot of problems as well. I think about like the whole leaving makeup on doorknobs CBS. You're getting it on food. It must have been terrifying for any white person he met who didn't know he was in black face 'cause if you touch them then you leave a black handprints on them and why people panic and they're like. Oh my God. I think black people make other people black. Oh my God I heard about this on facebook so what the Canadian election just one month away. Many are wondering if this black face scandal is going to hurt you those chances of being reelected and to be honest. I'm just sad to see another black man. Being brought down breaks my heart the when you look at Trudeau and an old these new stories of black face coming out every day at some point we have to admit that this problem is bigger than and some people would like to believe from the governor of Virginia to multiple TV stars and every FRAT party in town. It seems that when white people get their hands on Brown makeup they just cannot help themselves so we need to treat this like the epidemic that is which is why today ladies and gentlemen. I'm proposing a buyback program to get black face off. The streets also think we need red flag loss few here your white friend talking about buying again after a week for the school talent show we stop that before it happens and for those people who already have a black face photo that hasn't come out yet. We need to have one day of amnesty or you can put it out online without getting cancelled and don't use this as an excuse to make new black face voters cast you white people old photos only don't abuse the amnesty today and last but not least we need makeup companies to start taking responsibility for the products..

"It's the same way that you can have a conservative. That doesn't believe in fiscal responsibility. I do understand the frustration though grant because it's like you you got this angel and devil on your shoulder and the devil because I feel it too. I'm like well. He should resign. He should have his life ruined. He should have to face all of these consequences that all all of these conservatives have had to face for far less so if I was the conservative candidate against Justin Trudeau and thank God I'm not because I don't live cannon right. I would come out and say hey. This is what political correctness gets you. You're the left. You pushed all this nonsense. Look what it's doing to your candidate. Now I can beat him on the issues. I think their version of the attorney general maybe that's what it's actually called into dropping a case. He's got issues. I personally don't think we're going to put up with seeing in his face too much which you remember when I got elected and everyone was like Oh. It's so great. He's so handsome. He's so charming. Last long didn't last long and then he was an Indian like with his whole family dressed up like it was not the biggest pandering thing I've ever seen in a while like this guy is he's speed dresses entire family of an ending clothing to go go to India like you and your surprise. "Hey Jamie wow wow was right. That was a shocking development yup. Definitely I think you and I have mentioned there's kind of been an absence of moments that turn the dial or change things in this is definitely finitely it and I this certainly looks like something that could move the needle. I want to get in to that with you a little bit later but first let's talk about. This picture described this picture to me. I'm looking at the picture right now. this is a picture that was published in time as you mentioned a Mr Trudeau is flanked by three women if you're if you're looking to the looking at it head on the left of him as well as another woman to the right he's dressed up completely and including his hands painted painted in Brown face he says that he he was you know he put makeup on himself. this was at a party when he was twenty nine years old in two thousand and one at the school will he attended where he was teaching at at the time well private school yeah it's called West Point Grey Academy community and and how do we think time got this photograph well. They are very explicit about it. Actually it's they say that earlier this month. They obtained a copy of the yearbook in which this photo was like the photo was in the yearbook at the yearbook was called the view and they got it from Vancouver businessmen. They say named Michael Adamson Maha who was part of the West Point Grey Academy Quote Unquote Community He was not at the party. The party was attended by school faculty administrators and parents of students and he said Mr Adamson that he I saw the photograph back in July and felt it should be made eight public okay so that's how they got it okay and and I will say in this photograph Justin Trudeau is certainly wearing the most intricate kurt costume of the bunch. He is the only person in Brown face yes obsolete and it says his spokespeople say it was a photo taken while he was teaching Vancouver at the school's annual dinner which had a a costume theme of Arabian nights attend with friends and colleagues and he was dressed as a character from Aladdin okay so very quickly after the story broke which I think was just after dinnertime. Justin Trudeau responded and here is what he had to say last night in Halifax. Was this bottle racist. You're just yes yes it was I didn't consider it a racist action at the time but now we know better and this was something that was unacceptable yesterday you you'll be allowed to stay. I'm going to be asking Canadians to forgive me for what I did. I shouldn't have done that I take responsibility for it was a dumb something to do. I'm disappointed in myself on pissed off at myself for having done it. I wish I hadn't done it but I did. It and I apologize for primarily to to put it into some sort of wider context. You have to remember the last time of speaking to you. Jamie we were talking about candidates and the Liberals Criticism of Andrew shears position which was if stuff has happened in the past and you say sorry about it. He people can be forgiven right as long as someone takes responsibility for what they said and and and and addresses the fact that in two thousand nine hundred and some things have sent in the past are inappropriate today he was resoundingly criticized by not only Justin Trudeau but the the Liberal Party for saying saying that last night that's exactly what Justin Trudeau asked right for forgiveness for forgiveness because he regretted his actions he has moved on since then and and he thinks differently now and he apologized right and he said he should have known better and I will say a very significant piece of information that came out of that press conference. Justin Trudeau admitted that he'd actually done this before. Is that the only time in your life you've ever done something like that. when I was in high school I dressed up at a talent show and saying Dale with with with makeup yeah and then actually even beyond on many of the second instance at the end of the press conference and other reporter asked whether or not there is anything beyond those two incidents in just WanNa read exactly what he said Ed the reporter asked. Do you want to Canadians about any other instances where you were concerned a racist hot walk-throughs around I think I think it's it's been plenty. the fact of the matter is that I've I've always and you'll know this been more enthusiastic about costumes than is somehow is sometimes appropriate but these are the situations that that I regret deeply that the only two of their more of the situations I regret the he's not unequivocally saying no we'll check immediately sort of makes me question if there are more right and this idea about him being enthusiastic about costumes. I'm not entirely sure what he was referring to. I thought aww maybe he was referring to his India trip. Yes he went. She was widely roundly criticized for wearing you know a very elaborate outfits with his wife and and family.

"Like, there's a way that they I don't think that they can necessarily recover from the optics of this to women really coming forward and saying this was a mistake. And I think in my opinion, though, like in the larger picture like I'm proud that. They did that. And they came forward and said those things, but I do think there's a lot more at stake here. And I think what frustrates me is that as someone who is left leaning who has done a lot of research, even for example with what's going on in America right now with Fox News and how they literally are disseminating fake in Frahm agenda. They are feeling comfortable with using propaganda. And they've studied literally studied right wing establishments. Like, Fox News and the way to disseminate information and left wing and they've found that right wing. People are a lot more comfortable with fully lying with literally not telling the truth. And I think that is really scary. Because. I'm not saying yet that necessarily that's service are going to do. But Doug Ford, the conservative leader of Ontario, certainly is comfortable with that. So there is this level of like, okay? We can't not we can't just allow us all to go. Okay. Justin Troodos, bats. Now. We have to flip the switch and we've done our stand. Like in a nuanced way where our opinions lie, and I just don't think people have the time and energy to be doing that. Like, I think I really got to understand this because I know we wanted to talk on this podcast. It's confusing. It's I would just like want people to know that it is exciting to learn about these things and it is important educate yourself on what's going on. But you're right. This could be the thing that ruins Justin Trudeau's legacy, which I don't know if necessarily that is fair based on what happened. But I do really think that there is a world where it's like this these things need to happen in order for things to change and just because you claim to be a feminist and you use all of these on raise for yours to can't exploit them. Don't actually standing to their standard. You know what I mean? Can't exploit progressivism is that a word also being held to its judgment. And in really like gain the benefits of the world's stage thinking of you as the leader of the progressive movement. Then these things are going to come back and haunt you. If you don't handle them properly. It's one of those frustrating things where it's like, the great power comes great responsibility. And he, you know, he really propped up his responsibility as that person. And he'd maybe we expect so much of people like this to be permanent. But for me, I think I heard an interesting, quote, I don't know if it was from him as someone was talking about him. They said like don't. It was like don't compare me to this is going to be a really botched version of this. But it's like don't judge me by the standard of God judge me by the standard of who. I'm up against. Yeah. Which is like an interesting thing because right now everyone's like, he's so bad. But then I think the end of our whole conversation here has been like, but we should really be evaluating the liberal party against the other parties they're running against and not to the standard of being perfect. When it comes to this when it comes to the election right now, we can judge I think, but then when it comes the election. It's like this doesn't stand. Nice elation of the comparison between when the is actually stand for anything. So one last thing that I want to say is that what this continually makes me feel and I just is that we need women to be in power is like something I really think that needs to happen. And then think for that to happen need to start stepping down their responsibility. I think we need to be propping women up which he actually did gender parity, but we need to go even further. I think climate change is the biggest issue of our time. We all need to be focusing on. So when the next election comes the conservative government is not the government to vote in the other two parties are the ones that are better at it. But I think Justin Trudeau has made a huge mistake with the pipelines in Canada..

"Among any of the. Seven nations, and like he has done a lot of things for refugees to respond to Syrian newcomer. And there were some programs that we use that I was looking at that he actually initiated that did make the settlement of has gone a lot easier. Like I firsthand like I had to go through specific government overseas things, and I was like, wow, okay. Justin Trudeau created these like as someone who obviously thinks candidate needs newcomers in order to survive like the east coast literally is an aging population. People need to understand that. If we want our economy just five we need newcomers to Canada. He did help do that. Which is the right thing to do ethically. But also from an economic perspective we need people to come to Canada. So I just think like that was something I've got to experience firsthand that was thankful to some of the policies that he and his administration had brought in and I was like that wouldn't have been the same case if there had been someone elected in the conservative government. I'm sure so he's done. Good things. I think is what you're trying to say. Yeah. And I think that for like you said, I do think in some ways, and I like. I won't paint conservatives especially conservatives in Canada with a blanket brush because I think it is a much different country than America right now. But it is like I worry that these things have an always do happen. And I wonder like you said like if it was within the conservative party, would it maybe have just never come out because there weren't progressive candidates like we've had right now. And I know genuinely think that that wouldn't happen. And so that's the frustrating part of that could lose an election. And that's something that I'm sure like they the two women who have left now are going to have to think about. So that is maybe not fair to throw on them when they're like. But I'm standing for my. What's that? Asleep at night. That's the thing that for me. I'm trying to figure out I think like big picture. This is a good thing. This is a good moment for democracy to have a woman come forward and face all these people and say, you know, what I feel was unethical happened. And this is how and this is why and that we actually get to see the inner workings of politics, and even listening to Jerry butts will never get over that name even listening to Jerry butts like half to speak today about how they went through the decision making of how to move people around within. It was like we don't actually have to hear about this that often. I even if we do I don't listen to it. So we're all hopefully tapped in and I think what I worry about is that a lot of people. This is a scandal that I've been so excited to read about maybe preparing for this podcast. But we have a lot of peers you've just like glaze over these headlines, and maybe we'll leave this thinking. Oh, wow. Justin Trudeau is corrupt. And all these things that I'm like, well, it's actually really important that you read what happened people's opinions read out. I think these women in many ways are standing up for what is right. And I like. I'm so proud of them for doing that. But like understand what the other options are in the next election. Obviously Andrew shears using this as like a moment to be like he needs to step down as prime minister. And all these things which I don't agree with. Oh, yeah. Also because people have talked about in Ontario right now, the similar things have happened with our conservative government. Yes..

"So here we go. Here we go some thoughts talk about Justin Trudeau. Okay. Let's try and like Chuck chat about this through the lens of him. So what I find so interesting about this whole case is that I think it's helping people really understand and make politics become something that is not so confusing. And it seems kind of simple. It's like it sounds confusing. It theory because these companies that clearly a legal things they need to be charged. But these companies also employed Canada like what do you do? So I'm empathetic to like all sides of this. Yeah. Me too. But one thing that I would say is that I find I when she talks about the way that Jodie Wilson. We'll talks about the way that they cut sort of hassling her to you know, maybe change her decision. Maybe get some more insight into these things and even the way. That she has said that gesture true droves did set. You know, I am the MP in the back like if we lose all these jobs, or if they lose these contracts in Canada that could influence the election like that's what he insinuated things. Like that. Just makes me like oh my God. Okay. This I'm glad that we're bringing to light that this is corruption. This does happen in government. And I think that it's really not good optics for him because he's sort of ran and came into power and was really good at taking to the stage, the world stage as this person who's going to speak for the people, and like be anti corruption and be very democratic be like, we believe in democracy, and we're going to follow these rules, and we're not going to be behind the scenes like so many other governments have trading and benefiting auto stuff benefitting off of the tax payers dollar in this sort of thing. So one thing that just made me so frustrated and all of this because we're can talk maybe now or later, but how this is potentially going to loosen the election. And I think what's frustrating to me is that when I think about the conservatives, and I think what other. I'm sure this happens a lot. I get it. It doesn't always. And I think that's why these women are in my opinion. Awesome. They're almost acting as whistle blowers to allow the public to understand that these things happen all the time. But he hasn't spoken down the barrel of the camera to the Canadian people in a way that has sounded like authentic real. Yeah. He ran on a platform of being real. Yeah. And I mean, some people have always questioned said that you were like, yeah. But there was a point where I was like, okay. He feels more real than most politicians. I like when a politician can just talk off the cuff and not sound so scripted. And it is like, yeah. I I wish right now that Justin Trudeau would sit down and put a YouTube video out or a livestream just like. And this is like it looks bad. I'm gonna talk through what happened from my perspective. I think one difficult thing is that. In all these articles in all this information. It's the prime minister's office. So he has a team of people. So it's not necessarily him. Who's the person Ness-like telling them that they have to change this. Right. Even he might be behind the scenes asking people to do that. But from like, Jodie Wilson, Ray, Boltz perspective. Like he wasn't coming to her being like you need to change it because he has a whole team of people who manage listening. Yeah. So she was saying that she was being reached out to by law different like staffers on his team. And then obviously that one meeting with him specifically to her face saying like mentioning it, but not young like, oh, I'm not pressuring. But like just I wanna make sure we all on the same page and aware of what's going on. So then he did talk to the public today. And I watched it, and he also had like Jerry butts law of that name his like his literal best friend from like university. Who also was his. Yeah. His principal secretary who came forward and try to portray that this was a lack of sort of. A lack of trust and like misunderstanding between different size like she obviously took that being like being demoted from like attorney general to become like the veteran's affair minister as like a d motion..

"It's also not related to Justin Trudeau it's related to a new study that came out, which is kind of hammering home the same point that vaccines do not cause autism. So they did like a huge another huge long study over six hundred and fifty thousand kids, and they realize that the the significance of this study over any others. Was that not only did it find that vaccines don't cause autism? They also found that it doesn't trigger autism in kids who are who are at high risk to get them. So that was sometimes an argument like, but what did my kid, maybe could get autism more likely and evac Zine kind of like kicks it into gear. And they realized by studying this it was like watching kids over over a decade and then following up with them, and that's six hundred fifty thousand kids again. Yeah. No link and no there's a lot to say about this other than it's just exhausted article that it did saw based on one study that the. Author has redacted that people always linked back to their has. Now been I think this this seventeen previous major studies that have found no link between vaccines and autism. And sorry, I shouldn't necessarily say like all that scenes this study and all those studies were on the m m our measles mumps rubella. But that's the one that all the kids get when they're young to like protect them. Yes diseases. They're at high risk from so. Yeah, I mean like I don't have anything else to say other than like stop spreading this false. I it doesn't mean. We can't say, hey, let's make sure vaccines are still safe in any new vaccines. We should be claiming that. Yeah, it's really it's no longer appoint the scientific community. You know at this point. It's just like it's done and measles are back Q. Good job. Everyone measles or back. It seems It like. seems like there's more celebrities than ever that are like supporting this notion. So that's a weird part of world. We live in in. How how do we make people listen to science? That's consistent thing that we're gonna be talking about it for the rest of live story Tonton. So today we are talking about Justin Trudeau in the midst of a controversy here in Canada. If you don't know about it. We are going to after the middle break go into this SNC lava Lynn controversy got to our opinions now on Justin Trudeau as people who in our story time. I wanna talk about voted for him. Yeah. I won't say too much about it. Now other than for especially like Americans are people around the world who have no idea big deal now in the New York Times on there, like Canadians who don't even quite know. So we'll explain it. Explain the whole thing. But for now just know that there is like quite a scandal going. It's a big deal for us Canadians. Ooh. I it's juicy juicy juicy. So before we got into that. "Yes. Absolutely. I'm a feminist because a feminist is someone who believes men and women should be equal. And who believes that there's a lot more work to do to get there. And. Exclusive interview with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, his push for gender equality and his effort to close the pay gap. Why he mandated his cabinet behalf. Women. Also, Trump trade and trust how Trudeau negotiates with President Trump one of the things that me very very well through the thirteen months of negotiations over the new now with that. I don't think about black, and we have strong conversations and private and we get for the right outcome forever. Plus his defense of the free press. He calls journalism fundamental to any democracy around the world. Here's our exclusive interview. Madiun prime minister Justin Trudeau mister prime minister. I appreciate you. Joining me today. It's a pleasure to be here. Puppy, so diversity when I started asking for this interview two years ago, it was because I was at a dinner and her speaking about diversity and heard you speaking about a cabinet that was equal men and women today. It is. Gender-balanced seventeen women seventeen men. It was clearly intentional. Why did you do it? A first of all before you can get to a cabinet that has gender-balanced. It took a number of years of work recruiting great women convincing them to run for politics, which isn't easy as it is. So when you think about getting to better gender diversity, you really realize you have to you have to do a lot of work building the pipeline towards that. But why do it was a fundamental to to governing? Well, when you have a broader group of people with different perspectives with different backgrounds different stories with different life experiences. You're actually much better able to solve different problems and solve them in a way that is going to respond to the needs people. Have we've known that for so long and yet so many governments, including our government in the United States falls behind on that. I mean when you look. And prime minister at the under representation of women in the US congress. What do you think what we have a similar underrepresentation in Canada's parliament? We're we are nowhere near fifty percent. We're nowhere near forty percent, right. We have to do a lot better. But I can't control the numbers in parliament. I can't control the numbers of my cabinet and modeling that leadership of making a determination that yes, it's was twenty fifteen we had to do that was important. But also modeling that you get better government out of it that it's not just the right thing to do. It's the smart thing to do is the message that is resonating more and more these past. Can you give me an example of that of what you've seen happen in the last years because you brought in more women when when we talk about putting a gender lens on issues where you actually think about the gender implications of it. A pipeline. For example, you couldn't imagine the putting a gender lens on building a pipeline would actually be meaningful. Except if you say, okay, you're building an infrastructure. That's going through remote and rural areas, you're going to be descending a whole bunch of mostly male construction workers on it. There are going to be societal impacts in small communities where there so can you make sure as you move forward on this decision that you're building in social supports and a counter to some of the problems that might come are you feminist? Yes. Absolutely. I'm a feminist because a feminist is someone who believes men and women should be equal. And who believes that there's a lot more work to do to get there who or what made you offend minist-..

"You said you're going to retaliate how serious are you are in you really think you can make a dent welcome back as we mentioned earlier the us this week in post tariffs on steel and aluminum from mexico the european union and canada all three retaliated by announcing tariffs of their own but it was canadian prime minister justin trudeau who was called up personally by president trump and a friday i traveled to ottawa canada to speak to mr trudeau the prime minister is hosting this week's g seven economic summit which means he's going to have some one on one face time with president trump and a couple of days so i began by asking him about president trump's tough words on the new tariffs and the ongoing renegotiations on the fate of nafta i think i think our approach has been consistent all the way through recognizing canada and the united states have perhaps the most successful economic partnership and alliance and friendship in history of the modern world there are no two countries that are as interconnected interdependent you sell more things to us every year than to uk japan and china combined we are connie's are are incredibly interwoven and there is an absolute path towards improving nafta and doing well on that the fact that the president has moved forward with these tariffs is not just going to hurt canadian jobs it's going to hurt us jobs as well and neither of those things is something that canada wants to see your reaction felt as if you felt jilted is people the candidate got like wait a minute we've done all these things for the united states over the years and this is how you treat us you felt.

"Or they can make it harder for them to succeed and they claimed it all this is all this is going on the committee is a smokescreen for what they really tiny do what do you say to that well the liberals are certainly got a lot of problem lining up their feminist rhetoric i with their failure could bring in a single piece of legislation that helps women um and so on the ntp side we've been advocating strongly ever since i was elected that trudeau government bringing pay equity legislation that he bring in universal affordable childcare and we're ready to get back to work on thursday now that impact that both the conservative in the liberal created is behind us do you think that what happened on the committee and the rejection of rachel harder was orchestrated by justin trudeau as the conservatives are claiming not at all i called the alarm on this last monday at that time the liberal for saying there's nothing we can do about it the conservatives get to control the nomination i was urging at committee and i my motion was that we have a vote on it i'm not unfortunately the kind of knocked off the rails for a week because of the liberals walking out of the meeting but they didn't look that i still i don't have any sense that the pmoi orchestrated this with canada was saying that the whole thing was america station by the liberals by justin trudeau and and it said at the actions demonstrate the intolerance of the liberal party of god that which claims to value diversity but do voted against the appointment as well so really where where can you point the finger where can even pointing the finger at the liberals as being this because you share the view the of the liberals about the appointment of regional harder.
