"Constrained in what we see. But there it is. Those are disclosures that you had them now. Yeah. But back to what I was saying, HBO is very much like not a pajama brain network. You do watch it so then you can go talk with your Friends. Pajama brain. Yeah. You know, sometimes you're just like, I want pajamas for my brain. Oh, that's a thing. Is that a thing or is that a thing that you say? It's a thing my friend group says. That's good. That's good. Okay. Carry on. Carry on. Yeah, and so it's not a pajama brain network for the most part. Netflix is discovery go is and he I think wants to do that with max. But also then have this little tab that's HBO. Because they announcement to shows that are very HBO shows that are not these big pajama brains. Sort of. They announced a bunch of really expensive shows based on somewhat impressive existing IP. It's the kind of thing you would want to do if you didn't want to take any risks, but you wanted to make a bunch of money and seeing prestigious is you would announce a ten yearlong Harry Potter show, which is what they did, right? If they had announced the 8 new HBO originals that you've never heard of that are going to totally blow your mind to pieces, I'd be a lot more willing to believe that there's some real investment in the thing that HBO has always done well. But to me, this is like the same thing AT&T used to say to HBO, which is basically like you need to make a lot more stuff and you need to make sure all of it is a hit and you have to prove it to us before you make it. And in HBO's really bad at that. You think about their biggest success, Game of Thrones, those weren't huge hits in the first episode. Those were slow burns. Yeah. And it was only because they were given the opportunity to do that. And that's to be complaint about a lot of the other streamers, Netflix in particular, is everybody says, oh, they're not giving them enough time to make it. But so they haven't turned over the leadership at HBO. It's still Casey boys. Yeah. And he was very, he was like on stage, talking about it, really doing his dance for the audience. And saying, yeah, we're really excited because we've got Harry Potter. We've got a third Game of Thrones series. Well, so who was this event for? So I was watching this event. On and off throughout the day, 'cause it was fairly long. It took forever. And I couldn't tell who it was meant for. But it's not for new audiences. It's not like it's for investors. Average. It's for investors. Right. Yeah, they're desperately trying to say the streaming market is crap right now. You, dear Wall Street, have bet that we are not going to pull this off. We're sitting on a mountain of debt and we need you to think that we are about to be on fire in a good way. And I'm just saying, for that audience, what you want to show them is we've got one decade of Harry Potter in the back. Sure. Yeah, these nerds are never going anywhere. Their parent has 1999 a month for four K Harry Potter for ten years. Can you do multiplication? That's the money. And they were dancing around the really big issue with Harry Potter. Because Harry Potter is kind of like become a toxic property and everybody's everybody at Warner Brothers is refusing to acknowledge that because they're in so tight with J. K. Rowling, but she has become a very, very toxic personality. She had that big video game and people were furious about it and refusing to play it. That game was also a huge hit. It was a huge hit, but there is definitely that toxicity for we also saw it with fantastic beasts hiring Johnny Depp like this continues to happen and when they asked boys, were you doing with her? Is she going to be involved in the show? She can be participating. Is she getting money for it? Obviously, yes. He just danced around it. He's like, you know, she does her thing. We do ours. She says she's going to use all her money to destroy trans people. That's fine. We're going to keep over here. And I think at some point they are going to have to deal with that. The same way Disney, they brought a decade long headache. Right. But I'm just saying, for this audience, and I agree. For this audience, this audience doesn't give a shit. This audience is seeing, okay, people will pay the monthly subscription to watch Harry Potter for decade. You're doing True Detective season four Jodie Foster. That's a hit. Right. You've got to show them the franchise IP. I don't think that forecloses new stuff from HBO, especially as that leadership is still there. Yeah, I think we're still going to see stuff from HBO. We're still going to see stuff from that kind of HBO Max team. They specifically called out the big successes there, which are hacks, the sex lives of college girls, which is really difficult to show to say you're watching at any point in your life. It's funny because you're the only person on the show that can say it and get a little bit of that. And even I was like, the other day somebody was like, what are you watching? I was like the 6th size of college girls. On HBO Max. It's a real show. So they were calling out those big successes that were HBO Max shows where people were concerned that they were going to just get rid of that programming team, get rid of that programming. They were also the other big thing that people were scared about was cartoons and losing cartoons, which is why they specifically called out a new gremlins cartoon. Sure. And Rick and Morty anime, another property that has a big toxic cloud around it because Justin Roland. Yeah. Not great. But yet again, another big established thing with a big fan base in a big catalog. I don't know. To me, play this out, right? So these things all get combined. They start this app and they start to see how people use it, right? And the reality of the world is that people spend more hours a day doing dishes while they watch HGTV than they do sitting in front of. Yeah, Succession once a week. And they're going to look at it, and they're going to say this one episode of Succession cost more than three seasons of three HGTV shows, what in God's name are we doing? And David's love as a person who has made very clear that he is not doing this for the prestige he is doing this for the money. And frankly, the company needs to do things for the money. How do you not eventually look at the balance and say, why are we spending all of this money to get these really great shows that people watch a little bit of into this tab when, in fact, actually most of the people who come to our app are watching this other stuff that's much cheaper to produce and is an endlessly renewable resource. Like I just unless you are a person who cares, which is the thing that HBO has done over the years as they've had people in charge who have said, we're going to take big risks because I'm in charge and I say so. That's they just don't have that now. And now they're bundled together with all this other stuff that is just going to decimate it in every metric except for quality and cultural relevance. And those two things are really important. You hear the two things. You're correctly the company needs money. They're in a bunch of data. So AT&T still has a stake there and a bunch of debt. Everyone needs this thing to make money. Great. I've known for making money. He's good at it. He is good at it. But my theories to why he'll keep HPR out is that my theory for why he bought Warner Brothers in the first place, which is one, AT&T is stupid and sold it to him for pennies on the dollar. And he could do it. But two, rich guys like fancy stuff. Yes. And at the end of the day, this is why the tech industry is just a deeply attracted Hollywood. They want. This is why Jeff Bezos is like, you know what? The expanse, 90 seasons. It's gonna be super boring at the end of it. Because they want to be in those rooms. This is why Adams area is like always the Met Gala in that moment for Instagram was happening. The opportunity to show that cultural relevance is like irresistible. Yeah. To be the big patron of the arts. And that's the thing he bought. He bought Warner Brothers. So I agree, that tension is there.

"Me. And again, I guess just how you raise I can't fathom how hard it is for people to be a good person. It is not hard to be a good person. And not the abusive and horrible. And I mean, and I know that I've seen this go around, obviously, these are allegations. Innocent tubercules, you want to do all that stuff. Let's pull up the fucking DMs that no one's bothered. How hard is it to be a decent fucking person? It is not hard to not exert your will on someone to not make. It's the most maddening thing in the world. I don't understand how people can think any of this would be okay. Let alone to have the level of success Justin roiland has had and be like, here's what I'm gonna fucking do. And I know that don't get me wrong, I understand everybody's lives are hard. You know what I mean? I always go back to one time where you were the up and comer. And you did, we have cool Friends with me. And at the end, I was like, do you have any questions? And you said, yeah, what's it like being Greg Miller? And I flubbed the answer. I gave no good answer, but the real question I should have asked you is, what do you think it is to be Greg Miller, right? Because now you work with me and hang out with me and you know I'm just a person, right? I don't know how successful or cool anybody thinks I am. I'm sure they don't. But I go home and I got to fucking do the laundry and I got to help get Ben changed and I got like I'm worried about paying bills and I'm worried, oh my God, what's going on with the garage? I understand that your level of success does not make you immune to being a human being, but I don't understand how it doesn't help you not be a horrible fucking person and the fact that we continue to see this. It breaks my heart not to see fucking Justin roiland throw his reputation. Fuck him, the people he's hurting. And then again, to go back to it yesterday, we put them together. Squanch game statement and Rick and Morty, right? And when Rick and Morty got announced of like, hey, he's gone, we're continuing voice recast. Everybody, and I'm not even there was a big outcry of like, what the fuck just canceled the show. You know what I mean? Get over the show. I think it was Rick and Morty or Adult Swim, one of the accounts put out another statement that was just like the hundreds of people who work on this are going to keep working and it's like, yeah, think about that, right? Again, how fucking stupid arrogant, just what an asshole you must be. To not only hurt a fucking person, to make other people on the Internet be uncomfortable and say horrible fucking things on a DM, not understanding that they're gonna screencap this and use this against you. To then gamble the lives of hundreds of people, their livelihoods, the people who make Rick and Morty, the people who work at squash games. And again, I think when you talk about similar to how we're talking about video games and what we do, right, the people out front, right? Like the voices of Rick and Morty. I mean, I don't know, I don't watch the show enough, but the other celebrities that are at Chris Harmon, one of the guys from DNS. It doesn't matter. There's Parnell, Chris Parnell. He's fine. I'm sure he's not worried about losing his job, but the fucking animators, the producers, the right, you know what I mean? I don't know who writes it. So you know what I mean? Is you go deeper and deeper into it. That's why I was glad to see the part of squanch games saying we're going to keep developing games. We know our fans will love because there's another reality where it's like, well, squash games is done from here because so much is watch games is Justin Roland, right? Like a lot of those games are just based off of him riffing in him voicing the main characters and him doing his improv and his vision, right? He was the lead there. He had so much of the creative input there. I love that. There's still a studio there that is going to go forward and possibly make either high and life two or different game and not have to worry about Justin roiland. And can you continue to exist. That's my big hope for swamps games that after you've just been rolling, they're able to continue to thrive and make unique games because I love high on life as a unique, funny, here's a different sort of game that is on the double-A level, but it's going to hit for an audience of people. I really hope that squash games is able to do that. But I especially love that they're going to have the opportunity to try and do that. I hope man, you know, I hope that is the case and that continues on and that they're able to do it because it is one of those things of both reading the Rick and mortys will continue more Rick and Morty. I was like, well, and I know they've optioned what is it like three more seasons or something? It's like, I don't know. Withstand the backlash from that. And then squanch games, yeah, how do you, I feel like you've got to change your name probably. You got to change a lot. And you say high in life, too, no way. That's radioactive. All that's radioactive, because again, it'll be these interviews with IGN. Of like, oh cool, you're making high alive too. What was it like when you found out Justin Roland did? You know what I mean? How hard was it to bounce back from do a new IP and a new thing with a new person in a new writer? And then you're still going to get those questions. Has been a troubling. It's been a it's been a long road for these four years starting now to the next thing or whatever as you are. But even then, it's like,

"I think the personal problem I have. Isn't the right way to phrase this. Not even the dilemma about this. Are you reviewing Hogwarts? Yeah, I support trans people. I'm not a trans person. So as much as I can read or talk to people, I'll never truly understand the experience, right? And to the credit I've seen so many different think pieces from individuals who are like play the game or don't play the game or whatever or understand if you're like there's so many things going on that it isn't just like there's even a this is what we're asking you to do as a community. Because of course that's fucking impossible. I'm not asking for that. I digress. Not being trans and also not being Harry Potter fan puts me in such a, I don't my job would be to review the game, but I want to support, but is it really doing in blah blah blah? I think it would be a different equation if it was for you. It wasn't about trans lives. It was about black lives. For me, if it was a Superman game, you know what I mean? What if WB was finally making a Superman game? And I guess this is even harder because of course, you know, the people who created Superman are a long dead, so it's not like the creator of Superman's being like, yo, anything horrible. You know what I mean? It's this weird, it's so hard to get into the issues and understand the artist. Yeah, there's so much grain. There's so much levels of separation between JK, the studio, the Warner Brothers, being above the studio, that's dictating them saying these things below the studio. And then us as reviewers and us also as audience members. This has been a thing approaching this game where I've not known where I'm going to land by the time this thing comes out. I would like to review it or I'd like to at least check this game out for the sake of I play games for my job and this looks like a game that I would play that I would want to play. On the other hand, right? Like if I didn't play this game, I feel like I'd be missing little because I'm not a Harry Potter person, but then also I just don't I just don't I don't like how the how the studio has been pulled back from talking about these things. And muzzled, right? In a sense. And also I just don't like J. K. Rowling. And so it's a whole weird thing. The answer, the question from squid in space about what will be revealing it will be trying it out. I still don't know if I'm going to be on the review, right? And maybe that comes down to how far I get in the game. Are you going to try it out? Yeah, I was going to say you want to try it out there. I'm going to boot up the game. Well, you think you're going to press start. You're like, God damn it. I mean, listen, I happen for spoken for me. You spoke. But then I played 15 minutes and I was like, I'm good. I think there's a bunch of different ways that we can do it and use our space and our platform to make sure we're like, yo, this fucking sucks. And here's a way to help. And here's a way to support. I think it's a super simple thing, and I know it's like obviously not millions of dollars. I would say that I'm pitching this to you and I'm sure Tim is not listening and optical pitching to him. I would say all the money earned on that YouTube version. We donate to a charity as well, whatever charity we choose to put in and say we're doing this a lot. And it's kind of reminds me of how Gary with Chick-fil-A. I don't know if he still does, but in the old days, Gary used to be like, yeah, I love Chick-fil-A, so I'll go there. I'll eat there, and then I'll double a double a pledge to an LGBTQ organization or whatever, right? And really fucking stick it to him that way. It's like, and that's the other thing too, is like, we need to move on to a story that is also not good. There's also not fun. But it's like, guess what? At every fucking corporation, everything you go up, there's fucking douchebags, a horrible people that you won't agree with that are making money off of you doing the thing. Again, they aren't necessarily person who created it. They aren't necessarily the person who made the fucking thing. You loved so much and out of your Hogwarts themed wedding about it and all this other shit. Speaking of which, a person that did create a thing that a lot of people love so much. I guess so if you don't know Justin Verlander and you're around him, you know, if you spot him on vacation or something, if he's speaking quickly, he's probably had a couple of drinks. I think the leak kind of spoiled, obviously that big reveal at the end of the stream, but what we saw, I was like, this just feels like more of the same of what we've already seen. How did you feel about it? More of the same in what way because I didn't see this. I think it's very different than the first one, I think, less buggy I hope. Yeah, but the only thing I was saying during the whole time during the stream that dead island taking place in LA, LA is not in line and so I don't know what's. Oh. I see where you're going. Yeah, right? Unless they're going to make it Catalina. Unless the parts of LA just went away, I guess, because of the earthquake or something, yeah. So I don't know. And I want to know more about how you customize your weapons and similar to the first one. Is it four player co op or what? Are you saying you would have liked to see some gameplay from their gameplay trailer? I mean, did it show gameplay trailer? I'm not gameplay trade. They show a gameplay. It was snippets. Snippets of gameplay. They show something. So that means they're kind of confident to show this early. I mean, and they said it's coming out in February, so. To me, a game coming out in February, which is what 5 months away, almost 6 months away, between 5 and 6 months away is really soon. That game should be mostly built. They should probably be in Polish. If they're changing anything, it's not major gameplay systems or design or narrative, et cetera. It's some balancing potentially or adding in some assets, things like that.

"In a high quality final with barely a dull moment. He won the first set 6 four, seemingly unperturbed by playing in a first Grand Slam singles final. But Djokovic was deported from Melbourne in January and had not won a Grand Slam since Wimbledon last year, raised his game magnificently. Curios was worn for swearing, tried to have a woman he thought a drunk too much removed from the stands and spent far too long telling those in his player's box their support was inadequate, but he forced the very best out of Djokovic, who is now a 21 time Grand Slam singles champion Djokovic says winning Wimbledon is always special. I always dreamed of coming here just playing in this court and then of course realizing the childhood dream and winning this trophy and every single time it gets more and more meaningful and special and so I'm very blessed and very thankful to be standing here with the trough. The raining champions Nigeria secured their place in the knockout stages of the women's Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco with a four zero win over Burundi, uchena khanu with two of those goals for the super falcons, South Africa topped the group beating Botswana one zero to end the group stage with a perfect record. The women's European Championships Iceland and Belgium drew one all in their group D opener, elsewhere France thrashed Italy 5 one with the DR Congo born Paris Saint-Germain midfielder, scoring a first half hat trick. In Formula One Ferrari Charles Leclerc beat title rival Max Verstappen to win the Austrian Grand Prix and revive his championship ambitions and it will be union Namibia beat Kenya 36 zero to win the rugby Africa cup and seal qualification for next year's World Cup where they will meet hosts France the three time former winners New Zealand as well as Uruguay and Italy. That was Paul cirrus. Lastly on this edition of the newsroom, British government scientists have come up with a novel way of controlling the gray squirrel population, spiking hazelnut paste with oral contraceptives. Gray squirrels have driven the UK's native red squirrel to the verge of extinction and are even accused of undermining efforts to tackle climate change as our climate editor Justin roulette explains. A red squirrel nibbles a knot in a forest in the Yorkshire dales national park. Since its rival, the grace were always first introduced to the UK from North America in the late 19th century, they have spread across the country. Muscling out reds and killing and maiming tens of thousands of young trees every year. They do so much damage, ministers have warned they threaten to hinder efforts to plant new woodlands to help soak up carbon dioxide emissions. The new contraceptive is a vaccine that prompts the squirrel's immune system to limit the production of sex hormones, rendering the animals temporarily infertile. The plan is to use hazelnut butter laced with the new drug to lure gray squirrels into specially designed feeders, other animals can not access. Ultimately, it could be used to eradicate gray squirrels in the UK, according to the government minister overseeing the project. That was our climate editor Justin Roland. And that's it from the newsroom from the BBC World Service. Thanks very much for listening.

"It's also a lesson for us now as we meddle with the planet There is no guarantee that we will get through that That's the final episode of a geochemical history of life on earth after the news It's so tense right now We may have been just too stupid to solve the problem In which case what drama queens we are Hello this is Daniel Yao vietze with the BBC News A report released by UN scientists at the start of the climate summit in Glasgow says the world is entering uncharted territory because of record concentrations of greenhouse gases The past 7 years are on course to be the hottest ever recorded our environment analyst is roger harrabin The UN convention that's drawn so many people to Glasgow did have a clearly defined purpose to avoid dangerous climate change It's a bit late for that Scientists say ever rising CO2 emissions from human society mean the climate has changed dangerously already The world's nations have begun the seismic shift away from the fossil fuels that are heating the planet but progress is far too slow The British prime minister Boris Johnson has warned that a huge amount remains to be done to secure a deal to tackle global warming at the UN summit in Glasgow He said a target of keeping the rise in temperatures within 1.5 Celsius of pre industrial levels was in the balance Ethiopia's prime minister Abby Ahmed has urged his supporters to use any weapons they have to stop an advance by tigrayan rebel forces He issued the appeal on Facebook after the rebels said they'd gained more territory taking them closer to the Ethiopian capital at his Ababa Grant ferret reports The Ethiopian government has denied assertions by tigrayan TPLF rebels that they've seized the city of desi a nearby kombucha in the amhara region But abiy Ahmed's latest statement has an air of desperation He said it was the duty of all Ethiopians to block destroy and bury the rebels A TPLF spokesman get herder said their only aim was to break what he called the siege of tigray Communications with the region are largely blocked and desperately needed aid hasn't been getting through A year after the conflict began the United Nations estimates that 400,000 people in the region are suffering famine like conditions Japan's main stock index the nicaea rose by more than 2% in early trading on Monday After the governing liberal Democratic Party held on to power in a general election The pole was considered a test for the new prime minister fumio kushida as Rupert wingfield Hayes in Tokyo explains He did the job that he was elected to do last month by his party and hold on to a slender majority but this was the third lowest turnout of votes since the Second World War It's the worst result for the ruling LDP since 2009 So it's not exactly a stunning victory However a lot of people were predicting that the LDP might lose its single party majority And that would have severely weakened mister kushida just a month into his premiership So in that respect this is good news for mister kashida Wild news from the BBC Australia has allowed the resumption of international air travel without the need for quarantine for the first time in more than 18 months Airports serving the biggest cities Sydney and Melbourne are allowing fully vaccinated Australian citizens and residents to fly Australia imposed some of the toughest COVID travel restrictions in the notorious bank robberies around the country Will Leonardo reports The raid on two farms in the state of minister days was intended to stop suspected gang members and targeting local banks Police said they'd come under heavy fire and had to act to protect themselves killing 25 people Now a senior officer has said that the materials recovered from the farm suggests the gang was the same group behind a number of headline capturing raids on cities including around the tuber in August There bank robbers planted explosives around the town center took hostages and engaged in shootouts killing three people They tied people to the top of their getaway cars as human shields Several rifles grenades and stolen vehicles were seized in Sunday's operation The U.S. embassy in El Salvador has strongly rejected accusations that it conspired to split the governing new ideas party as a diplomatic row between the two countries continues On Saturday new ideas published audio of what it claimed was a "Do they. How do they handle that with the audience knowing he's done something terrible and well it's great rest of the carriages not knowing it's actually done really well because I think they did. Okay let's go ahead to say I wanna i wanna do one other thing before we get heavy. Hard corner spoilers So far we have anything that's doesn't get spoiled in the first episode But i wanna. I wanna tell you about the fucking voice cast. We're going to get into spoilers amongst this is just a highlight reel. We had talked about stephen young. Sandra jacobson's gillian jacobs From community bread from community andrew rannells was from The book of mormon From all the seasons girls walton coggins justified. Of course zachary quinto. Spock what does the other schuyler rights as the world's siler what what what what the fuck was the name of that show heroes heroes thank mahershala ali. Michael dorn Justin roland and here get ready for the walking dead reunion tour. Carry payton kings ezekiel lauren. Cohan maggie cynical. Martin green Ship sasha chad coleman her brother. My father Michael cutlets linney james Just incredible mark hamill does a cameo in this shows as he beats from atlanta john hayden. Yeah like there's just herschel. Ali seth brogan germont han soo which you know for a lot of stuff. Garage fell johnson. Who the hell is that. Steve urkel neighbor. Carl winslow no way kamara windows in this principle. I guess i was gonna say. Is you when guards. Beginning is talking about i one of the. There's a couple of principle joys in the show one is like. I think they got pretty good music. There's a lotta run. The jewels and also just recognized. Voice cast is a delight and see which ones stephen he's actually putting the performance it he doesn't eat from the walking dead. Yeah he's actually put in a little bit of. I dunno teenage yet This week in his voice. He's he's actually not just most of these people are just fucking to be in themselves. Jk simmons's fucking jk simmons. Yeah this character. It's essentially superman. With like a ron swanson mustache and the body of an at lesean. God fucking crushes it. He so good. And that's the other thing is yeah okay so i got all that away highly. Recommend this if you if you like it all these the the hero deconstruction movies. Your fanta suicide. Squad of your fan of watchmen if you're fan of the boys especially man this. This is a real bar razor for the boys. When i was like man. I hope that boys are watching this. Because this is the new state of the art. You should check this Let's get to. Let's get to Brian stotts and then he's got a whole bunch of questions for the end of the podcast. Let's let him introduce this. He says probably like you guys. I sat with my eyes narrow. My arms crossed where i started this show. I'm getting tired of the cape shit as you guys put it. I hear that. It's like the boys which i love but it's also skeptical about it being an inferior clone of the show. I feel like invincible. However stood at deconstructing the superhero genre in a totally. Different way from the watchman of the boys in a way. That's even more crushing. The superhero fantasy and watchmen or the boys majority the soup severely flawed or outright scumbags so obviously no one wants to live in that world but invincible. Ninety nine percent of the superheroes are in fact noble at kirkman shows how horrific a world with even at premises. Some that best when debbie grayson mark's. Mother casually disregards the lighthouse being destroyed. For the third time that year you see innocence or casually slaughtered and super hill superhero versus dylan battles and taken just like. They died in a car accident. It's just become a normal course of life on this planet. Snyder tried to touch on this. And some superman movies. But it doesn't quite sink in like the raw carnage and brutality of invincible. Above this the other reason i commissioned a podcast was they had me on my toes. I'm a heart pounding in a way that not felt in a while. Much like breaking bad. Game of thrones leftovers. I'm in no way comparing the story telling of those shows that this one but the do share the ability to make characters feel very real and then buried much extreme danger the show also unleash unleashes. Disappear soups carnage. I can only hope the some day in the boys. Besides me the taste we got during home lasers or homeland lasers is Daydream yeah that last one man their shit the show gets up to that final episode that is just like definitively fucked up. I don't know that you can take it to a higher level and the fact that it's like a father son abuse situation makes it like yeah. I don't know. I mean the boy's obviously has all the pieces there to do this but let me ask you that because invincible predates the boys by quite a bit the comics. You're talking about. Yeah do you think if they do like do you think that the boys can like nail a homeland or son plot in the same way. That kind of invincibles has already done it. Or do you think the even if they nail it it's gonna feel kinda derivative impasse a and also what was amazon thinking by having these two things on its own platform. It's a good question. What eaters elvis said and the suicide squad. It's like what what did you. Br as we both have the exact same skill set the exact same background. like where. we're just competition on this team. Yeah i mean that's that's fine. Whatever i i don't have a huge problem with multiple shows that are similar ban same network. Don't watch one if you don't want that much of it I yeah to think do this with the boys homeland and his son feeling only and his son are fundamentally going to have a different relationship. Because you look at how young kid is and it starts off similar but like the kid is not seventeen. The kid isn't formed yet right. So a lot of his opinions shared are gonna come from home lander whereas invincibles kind of like a fully formed adult at this point. He's supposed to be seventeen or something. Yeah he's got a lot of fucking opinions.

Jk simmons stephen young Sandra jacobson gillian jacobs andrew rannells walton coggins mahershala ali Michael dorn Justin roland ezekiel lauren Cohan maggie sasha chad coleman Michael cutlets linney james john hayden Ali seth brogan han soo Carl winslow Martin green Brian stotts zachary quinto

"Also full disclosure. Some of the voices in this game are provided by justin roland. For whom i work. So simon amstel is the voice of the narrator. And i think even if you just like this game. I think the voice acting is really good and i think the seminar sales at british comedian. Who have not familiar with. But apparently very well regarded. And i think is great in this and elevates the script so much i think is so funny and so you know just like completely on point with what this what this performance dates and then roland you which i think is there. There's a there's a quarter you. Unlock your subsequent playthrough. Yeah second play through. So yeah i Well i think the game begins. And you're like oh this is clever. And that's for me as heightened as my emotions became during which the game you know is advertised as a heist game but when you enter the game a voice starts a voice over tells you that another person is playing the game currently and so you've been locked out of the game in sort of the background of the set for the game as if a game is an interactive puzzle room in a real world space or like gonna fucking escape room almost like an escape room experience that you're on the outside of listening to another person playthrough their version of the fucking heist game. So you're initially you're like wow it's like the point in portal where you portal out of the last puzzle and then you spend the the the next part of the game in the background area of the portal game itself. Okay cool. But because i've already seen that in a game i was waiting for another thing and i'm complaining about a free game. That only takes twenty minutes. I was like oh shit. It's the stanley parable guy. Something crazy's about that. Nothing happens you're you go from location. Location is absolutely linear. There is nothing you can change and then it ends and that's the game it's a. It's a single player joke. So yeah you start an as other wretched so that you the game glitches pretty much right away and you step out of you see like you're literally see the menu screen the shell that you're looking at like you see as like a big in game you know. Object that sitting there. And you're just step outside of it and so you're looking at this big like wall-sized menu screen and then you're sort of walking around the backstage area which feels like a theater backstage. Which also i think is. There's another element to this that this game. That really liked which was the sound design in particular. There's like some you know there's like an orchestra pit that you can hear warming up in about two to q into and playing. Some key cues which i think is really nice but it feels like you're the backstage of a theater the backstage of like a big broadway production or something like that and then yeah. You're just sort of wandering through step by step. You start to get clues. I mentioned the. The strike was mentioned in the steam store about this. And you start to get like you start to very quickly your queued that there is a labor shortage because there is some sort of dispute between the people who worked on this the production of this game and you know the the the narrator and so they're understaffed and so you most of the game play interaction as you as the player who is waiting in line for your turn helping to cue the effects for the guy who is for the person who is currently playing the game so it's like we need to have a weather effect here so you have to go there and pull a lever. The thunder starts starts a playing. Yeah and if that sounds interest- look. I think was funnier as a person. I just rag on this game in a way that other people would be like. That's right. I fucking hate it but because my tone is abrasive as a general human being me complaining about the game will only make people hate me for hating the game. So what i want to say is fuck you. She ran away. I what go ahead and say. I mean 'cause i if i'm remembering correctly i enjoyed the stanley parable as a concept and i liked a lot and i was thinking extreme. It's drift now. I stop fucking calling me out playing this. I was sort of expecting something a little more like that. Like and i guess what i mean by that is i played. I played through it. I went through all the areas. In like i kind of just started doing whatever i wanted. Ring shoot. I should sort of do play. It like how the game wants me to play. I thinking i'll get different results. I played through. However i wanted the first time through. They played through the second time. Start getting those tapes and stuff and they'll say okay. I'm deviating from what the game wants me wants me to do sort of third playthrough i'll play it straight. Each time i played it. I was like oh. I got the same thing and there is only one there is. It's there's only one way to play really because there's only one story and one in one solution yet the the the wikipedia for this game rights. Dr lingus golf is an exploration game played from the first person perspective where the player has some limited interaction with the environment but otherwise no major gameplay and if that's the way the article like breaks down or the you know the general crowd sourced deconstruction of what this game is breaks down. Then i what nick what. You're smiling so big. No big peanut butter and jelly sandwich. I'm just eating. it was first off. It was a cheese and manny sandwich. But second off it's okay..

"Television talk so these television talks is diamond. Bladed mustache scissors. Thank you for that. Sponsorship of the segments television talk in which we were talking television obviously specifically a television series by the name of invincible This thing This sort of falls into. And i feel like i'm this is happening. More and more often A television shows where i suddenly see a shit ton of memes who using them The there was the What was the last one. I wanna vision. I kept seeing one division. Memes and i'd i hadn't really planned on watching one division But the combination of everyone talking about it And saying nice things about it. Yeah there's that but then also seeing you know dozens of memes and not quite getting them. Maybe it's a sort of a foam. Oh probably So then that started. The exact same thing started happening with this invincible This is a animated superhero program You know picture if you will you know. You're you're superman animated series batman and media series in the vein of that however for a more modern adult not just in terms of the fact that Super super bloody and gory The first instance of which. I was not expecting Which i think was a characters heads. Just being squished between two superheroes strong hands popped so bust. Like jesus fucking crazy. Just because i was not expecting like i've watched a lot although i haven't been while super violent gory. Japanese anime stuff over Over the course of my my my media consumption however when you're not expecting it and jumps out on you it really took me Took me by surprise So mature for that reason. Yes obviously but also Mature just in how it is sort of a family dealing with a normal situations normal everyday situations but also these incredible situations that come about from the plot. And from the fact that superheroes exists super villains exists And people you know live at this takes place on a world in which people are trying to seemingly quite often tried to take over the world as you do And then the sort of build up of the facts. That's a invincible. He's a young man. I don't know late teens. Who's just sort of develops these superpowers Having inherited them from his father the father who seemingly very much superman-like like in that he is you know top of the food chain in terms of power But we don't there's something about him. There's something that's sort of bruce throughout that Towards the end it's exposed. You know what. I won't give that away specifically but it's early on that you know Something about this guy. Ain't right but what i liked. What they did is early on. You know almost spoiler because what happens is i think. I episode You know that the sky is i guess seemingly a bad guy but then he's got this family that he also seemingly loves And they don't really explain. Why until i think the last or the second last episode. Why he's done what he's done. Which i will just say involves the head popping As sort of like a really slow build So you're watching this incredible show with amazing action and Just just cool set pieces and fights but then underlying all that is the fact that you don't know why the sky is doing what he's doing and that sort of a curiosity throughout i think was really a good mix now I think i saw i. I got the as i do. I have the wikipedia open. I'm pretty sure. I saw season. Two has been green. Let which is no surprise because it was incredibly popular In in the closing credits of this season The hinted at all the possible Storylines that could happen in the next season and that right there worth the price of admission like eased some of the things that seemingly. They're potentially doing just incredible. You know what does take place What universe does this take. Place in Enemies based on image comic series. Like i think they talked about martian manhunter which is in the same universe as superman. But that doesn't make sense something weird going on there. A lot of big names as well in terms of Voice actors Let's see we've got a steven yeun Playing a the the titular invinci- invincible mark grayson sandra. oh playing. His mom a. j. k. Simmons playing his dad aka omni man. He was a sort of a really really super powerful Girls do we have Gillian jacobs alter dogan's jason man zukas. Yeah that was a pleasant surprise us. jeffrey character wheaties perfects and more marquette. Got on there. I think i saw yes. Seth rogan is guessing couple episodes. I'm pretty sure. Oh sneak martin green. I didn't know she was in that. That's fun little star. Trek crossover Also i think i saw maybe it was just. Yeah michael dorn so michael dorn He was one of the potential plotlines hinted at in the next season which was fun So of the we've got michael dorn and shit with the guy's name. We looks just like me. Or i look like him. I guess it depends. Who's older you know what i could do it. This way Yep me google things. That's what's happening k. Justin roland yeah co-creator within harmon of Rick and morty. He does voices well. So yeah. justin ruined and michael dorn. What do they have in common. You might ask well if you were to google. Nerd cain adventures. You could see both of them Autographing a cane for some reason. See back in the day. Prepayment mc i would go to conventions your toronto comic cons. Your fan expos. Your niagara falls comecon once things of that nature Ah while in those places. I would have a cane because if you know anything about going to conventions you're going to be standing in line a lot and my back. It's bad necessarily but strangely what kills at most is standing still walking. You know picking up shit not so bad but just standing in one spot stationary. My baxter stuck gets worse and worse and worse. So i need some million on. Hey a cane. Hey why don't i get a nerdy celebrities to autograph this kane. Hey hin this cain to cause players and take their picture and then have thousands of pictures of confused. 'cause players will mccain for some reason is what i have done. Would i have did. Perhaps because i don't know if i will go back to that sort of scenario we'll see we'll see You know what give behind the scenes action on that note In three hours. I will be getting my second vaccination interesting so You know maybe one day we'll be back we'll see If i never do it again kind of a shame but also a mentally prepared for that possibility invincible. not i He's in one easy easy. Five five yeah. Not not even a decision there. At eight episodes. I watched in two days. Yeah just as a example of my like of it.

"Number of seasons. The fifth season premiered on june twentieth. Twenty twenty one and will consist of ten episodes. So far two episodes have premiered and they've been pretty good episodes. I like the series. Basically the show's premises. This show revolves around the adventures of the members of the smith household which consists of parents jerry and bet their kids summer. And morty and best father rick sanchez. who lives with them as a guest. According to justin. Roy land the family lives outside of seattle washington the adventures of rick. And morty however take place across an infinite number of realities with the character traveling to other planets and dimensions through portals and rick's lying car. Rick is an eco centric and alcoholic. Mad scientists who exchanges many ordinary conventions such a school marriage love and family. He frequently goes on adventures with his fourteen year. Old grandson morty a kind hearted but easily distressed boy who's naive but grounded. Moral compass plays counter points to rick's mischievous ego maurice. Seventeen year old sister. Summer is a more conventional teenager who worries about improving her status among her peers and sometimes falls. Rick and morty on their adventures the kids mother. Beth is generally level headed person and assertive or in the household though self-conscious about her professional role as a horse surgeon. She is dissatisfied with her marriage to jerry. A simple minded and insecure person who disapproves of rick's influence over his family different versions of the characters in habits. Other dimensions drought. The show's multi-diverse and their personal characteristics can vary from one reality to another. The show's original rick. Identifies himself as rick. Sanchez of earth's dimension. See one hundred thirty seven in reference to his original universe. But this does not necessarily apply to every other member of the smith household princeton's in the first season episode rick potion nine after turning the entire world population into monsters. Rick and morty move to a different dimension. Leaving summer beth at gerry behind all right. So that's basically the premise of the series. Now get down the who voices who so basically the main two characters. Rick and morty are voiced by the guy who created justin roland and well. Rick is basically your typical grandfather. If your typical grandfather was a mad scientist create alternate version of yourselves and an alternate like dimensional portals protector. Yeah he's not the typical grandfather and we'll maurice just trying to live his life as his grandfather is assistant and survived. The wacky hijinks says grandfather gets into. Then we've got the mother. Whose name is beth she is rick's daughter. Her voice actors. Also name is beth. Sarah charcoal which i thought was interesting. I mean you're playing a character. His name is bethany. And your name is beth. That must be fun. And we'll beth. This will she loves her dad and she loves her family but she has problems he. She's having problems with her husband and trying to deal with her. dad's antics. All the time can be difficult and she also has a moral compass where she cares about the environment and her job so yeah her. Life is complicated. Then we have her husband. Jerry who is like not very sure of himself. He often thinks that he can't do stuff any asked to go through. South conscious like re adapting to this like these living and he does not approve of rick's antics at all and he's voiced by chris. Parnell and then they've also got the oldest child which is summer and he's voiced by spencer grammer and well..

"I'm all i'm all caught up up. I'm through four episodes of solar opposite season two. I'm really enjoying it. Do you think we're going to get a solar opposite season. Three after the thomas ditch kind of. I feel like it's much easier to do so because it's animation it's just the voice actors who think that they could just like get rid of the character of terry and bring in somebody completely new. I mean i could. I could see them bringing over. Not necessarily an alternate reality terry but maybe just an alternate version or some late. They grow out there on lab store thing. Because you're you're half aren't yes. So how or even like in season one when they create that That little dude or whatever at the end of season one i wouldn't. I wouldn't be surprised if they do of mike that. So you bring in a new voice actor for terry and it's like the same person just a different voice when it be crazy if they brought in ben schwartz who you know well they schwartz. They did middle. Ditching schwartz on netflix. Dot com find out how loyal shortest his friend take his character. He's not very loyal right now because he like. If you go to his twitter. He's fucking taken thomas he's taken middle ditch and schwartz off the list of credits on twitter and it was there. Wow i'm disappointed. Because i had middle different sorts on my list because i fucking love ben shorts but then that thomas middle stuff came out. And i'm like all right. Missed the boat on that one on. Never see man from uncle. Now that middle distance schwartz fucking act was fucking brilliant. It really was and was and it just sucks. Because i love solar opposite so much that i don't i hate it when like something i love has like somebody that's like controversial involved in it because then you don't know the future of the series and it's like yeah middle ditch you kind of fuck this up for. Not you fucked up your life number one but number two like you kinda fucked it up for everybody. That's involved in this show. That has jobs on the show. The animators justin roland. Everybody who's involved in this show..

"Number four and I'm gonna say the guy that does apu and and half of the other simpsons characters hank area twenty four. Doing you're doing so good you got you got one one more two more to more to more guesses to more okay. I'll say cheese. Now it's getting mo- it's only one only one one because the only lafontaine yes my throwaway. That's right let's go with justin rowland. Oh you know justin roland fantastic boys artist he is he is not in the top fifty well he got robbed he got wrong because he is he is he is terrific he is he is terrific mel blanc is number one out see yeah how 'bout wait timeout frank oz no frank frank oz although you are considering frank is No muppet tears are in in the town. I guess that's fair Going going in rank. Order mel blanc. Dan castellaneta homer. Seth macfarlane tom. kenny. Nancy cartwright another simpsons alum charlie adler who he buster. Bunny a big heads Star scream rob paulsen a maniacs billy billy west trust mcneil here trey parker matt stone. Ten eleven alex here. Here's one. I disagree with wholeheartedly. Alex bursting. Who does does a the the mom on family guy. The only voice she's ever done she is number fourteen. She's number fourteen beating out. Casey kasem can casom. Yeah and john. Dimaggio does bender shaggy Yeah i guess. I guess if this had been framed as best cartoon voice actors i wouldn't have thrown away a lafontaine. Yeah guess so so here here. And if it if it. If i had realized that it was based on like sheer popularity i think like i maybe would have thought of like a seth macfarlane who is who is a terrific voice actor. He has But we heard his voice in in too many in stuff. That i must like. Oh so yeah. I dunno i. It's it's a good list it's good. It's a great game. I will say that it is a great game. And i think he should rip it right out of the. You know what we'll do. Well here's what we'll do is win rounding the bases finishes its accepts. Owed run then. We will adopt the game back. That i'm throwing the gauntlet down. It's it's a challenge. All even all even all even let rob or matt host the game for us get get past ten episodes matt and then we'll talk gather or we're taking your game anyway. Thank you thank you. Thank you brandon for for allowing me to play along. It's a good thing. I it's a good thing. I didn't listen to the episode. Or otherwise i i would just wouldn't let me say this last thing though matt very first guest was don lafontaine is all caps in the chat about it. He's he's pissed. He's pissed off because he says he because he says he was robbed. And but the thing immediately after i said that Immediately after said that i told him he was wrong. I was like think more animation. Rather than than i mean. If you think voiceover artists that would be the only voice-over artist you would think of. Because you don't know anybody else's voices well you could say like the guy that does the allstate commercials yay dennis. Haber yeah yeah. You're in good hands. Whatever like but but he's he's also he's an actor on screen froze commercials says. He's not a voiceover artists. And in that case all right accent technical here but but still like rob sure. Let's say you you you you talk talk about a popularity contest right mel blanc being number one i would say hands down is the is the correct answer job. Yeah for for for that. Type of stuff and Inept three we do another game based off top twenty five in. There's a lot of names on there. That i i don't have never heard of That are still accurate. So i explained the rules. The matt mad is complaining. He's like oh explain the rules. He's just he's just a poor loser and i wait for him to lose it more things as we going on. Yeah all right being. If you're listening. Support our podcast. Leave asleep review. Let's let us know but you're not listening. Hey this.
