We're going to come on, and we're going to talk about all of our guys that we like, dislike, that we're afraid of in the fantasy football season, and then went to Cleveland to find Garrett Bush, who is kind of a big guy there. I got to say, he's kind of a guy. He's going to tell us what to expect from the Browns, who are the most confusing 2023 team. A lot of that has to do with Deshaun Watson, which Deshaun Watson, are we going to get? How do we feel about Deshaun Watson in 2023, just in general? And where is Cleveland Sports going? What's happened to them this century? All the good, all the bad. And he's going to lay all of it out for us. So this is a really good podcast. Can't wait. First, our friends from Pro Chip. All right, it's the second annual My Guy Fantasy Draft. Our Ringer Fantasy Show guys are here. Danny Kelly, Danny Heifetz, Craig Horlbeck, my rewatchables producer, always nice when he pops on the BS. So we did this last year. We didn't win any awards, but sometimes you don't need to win awards. Sometimes when something's great, when it works, you just kind of know it, and we're going to run it back. Heifetz, you want to explain what this gimmick is? Yeah, it's you text us a bunch of ridiculous categories and then we kind of build an entire show, right? No, it's fun, though. It's just like it's a draft, but it's not a draft. And then it's it's vibes. It's a vibes episode. Yeah, we can agree on this. The concept is like you go into a fantasy draft. We all have the same kind of guides, same kind of rankings, but it doesn't capture the love. It doesn't capture the irrational. I just believe in this guy. It doesn't capture Craig thinking that that Pickens is going to end up being Justin Jefferson this year. There's just some things he already is or fear PTSD from bad draft picks from the past. I actually listened to a lot of the pod we did last year, and it was pretty funny hearing some of the guys we were like completely enamored by that ended up being bust. And then there were some other ones that I was surprised by the accuracy of it. Danny Kelly, can you ever be right in a fantasy draft? Can you ever go perfect? One in a million. It's like picking stocks, you know, if you get one good one, then you're set. Last year, mine was Romandre. I listened to our show last year, too. Feel like I nailed that one. Didn't get some other ones right. So that's, you know, we don't have to re litigate those. But Romandre, I'm calling that one. The take I was proudest of last year was fearing Cooper Cup after the year that he had just not liking the scent of something. This is veteran experience. I've been doing fantasy, I think since like 1989, 1990, something like that. All right. So I'm going to rip through the categories here. And then we're going to go at them one at a time. This is not, it's a draft, but it's not a draft because if we all have the same guy for a category of two of us have it, it's fine. We're okay. Um, the categories are my one true love, the guy that we just liked the most, my crazy pills guy. Do you want to explain the crazy pills thing, Craig? Uh, I think it could go either way, right? It's either you feel like you're taking crazy pills because nobody else likes the guy you like, or it's the other way around where you feel like you're taking crazy pills because everybody likes this guy and you don't understand it at all. So there's a little variance on that one. You can go either way. There's the my I absolutely hate myself for doing this guy, which seems to happen over and over again in fantasy where you go in there, drive like, well, I'm not going to end up with Russell Wilson. Uh, that was the example I used last year. It could be the example you use again this year. I'm not even gonna spend a dollar for Russell Wilson. Then it gets to the 17th round. If you're in a booger eater draft or, you know, you have $5 left for five guys and it's like, ah, Russell Wilson, Sean Payton, and all of a sudden you have Russell Wilson and you have no idea how he ended up on your team. So that is the, my absolutely hate myself for doing this guy. Uh, there's the, I'm going to add this category. It's a little sub category. The I'm staying away from that whole team team. There's teams where you're just like, I'm out, I'm just blind out. I don't want one person from that team. I'll see, we'll see if we agree on that team. Then we have the, my shameless Homer pick guy. That's going to be really, I mean, Craig, you don't even have to go. Uh, although there could be their tickets like plus 500, but I think we know pick is going to be there. There's the, my, I wouldn't take him even if he was free guy. So you're putting them on your D and D do not draft list. I had McCaffrey as my guy for this last year, which looked brilliant for about six weeks. Then he got traded a machine of an offense. We have the, my, that 2022 booty call isn't happening again guy, which is a new category for this year. This is the, you stumbled into somebody in the free agent auction, maybe in November, you wrote them for a couple of weeks, some fond memories, but you know, as a one night stand or, you know, as a three week stand and you're not going back, then we have the, this is a classic one. The somebody's got to get points on that team guy. We just look at all the teams and like, well, I don't know. Everybody scores 300 someone's catching passes on that team. Someone's rushing for 970 yards. There is the, my sorry, I'm sorry. That's too rich for my blood guy where you look at the draft guide and you see some of the salaries next to the guys. Then you go wait at $47. So Najee Harris was my guy for this last year. And I was proud of that one. There's the, my $1 QB guy. You're not, he's not going to make it break a draft, but you're also kind of secretly stashing away in your head. And we all have our $1 QB. There is the, my I'd be afraid to look on Tuesday and see the red flag guy, which I've added this year. I didn't even tell you about this category. You take the guy and it's going great. Eloy Jimenez is the ultimate baseball example of this. It's going great. You're feeling awesome. And then you go on there on a Tuesday and there's the red flag with the yellow box that there's news. And you're just like, Oh no. Oh God, what happened? And there's certain guys who just, it happens every year. A cousin of that, the, my, I know there's a 99 % chance he's getting hurt again, but God damn, I can't resist this guy guy. Then we have the, my Cooper cup. It's a year after the year guy. So I named this category after Cooper cup. So who is it this year? They had their year last year. Don't do it again. Don't get sucked in five more. The my, I just want everyone on that offense. I don't care guy. The my it's a year too early, but fuck it guy. The my missionary position. We've all had him guy. The my, I fell for the preseason hype guy. And then finally the, my I'd never root for an injury, but he is one injury away. That guy. All right. So we're going to start with my one true love. We're going to go and we're going to go on one, two, three, four on the zoom. And then for the second round, then the second guy will go, Danny Kelly, you're up. All right. My one true love. Who is it? I got to go with Tony Pollard for the Cowboys. I'm irrationally in love with this guy. I've been saying it. I think there's nothing you can say. It convinced me that he's not the best player in the NFL. Like, like just pound for pound, the best player in the NFL. Um, you know, last year he finished as the RV seven this year. He's going to be playing, I think more snaps, getting way more opportunities. If he can get up to like the same level of opportunities as Ekeler and CMC, you know, cause he's in that style of runner. I think this guy could finish as a top three running back in the NFL. And so I am, I'm just like full as a gentleman said, full bloom in love with Tony Pollard. I just can't, I can't help it. So in the ringer fantasy guide, he's 13th right now and he's gone for $42 in auction. So you think that's low? Yeah, I would, I would, I actually had Pollard too. Wow. We all have Pollard. Wait, did you too, Krik? I'm scared now. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, that's, well, that's, that's, this is a sign that, yeah, this is a terrible sign, but I just, I mean, just to pile on to DK stats here, Zeke had 12 touchdowns last year and Nick and Tony Pollard was a top 10 running back. Like what else do you need to hear? Like every time Tony Pollard was on the field, he was the best running back in the league. And now Zeke's gone. Like I rest my case. This is the pregame show where they all pick the same team to win a football and then that team loses. So you should probably stay away from Tony Pollard. Wait. So all three of you had Tony Pollard for this? Yeah, I can give you some. We did not discuss this before coming on. I didn't expect that. Oh, my God. Talk about groups and Jesus. You know, it's, you know, what sucks about this is that means when I have my big auction draft in a week and all my friends are going to be listening to this. And when Tony Pollard comes up, I'm not going to get them because they're all going to bid them up for $57 if I want to get them. Well, Bill's like, oh my God. Well, here's the argument. Rich Rebar, who works for Warren Sharpe, he's at Sharpe Football Analysis and he is a really good comp, which is basically Melvin Gordon was playing ahead of Austin Eckler for years. And everyone's begging for Austin Eckler to get the job. And then Austin Eckler finally got the job and the charges got rid of Melvin Gordon. And then Austin Eckler still wasn't really a first round pick. And we talked ourselves out of it. We hemmed it on. This is Tony Pollard again. It's like Zeke is finally after five years out of Dallas. And we're like, yeah, any point you get Tony Pollard, that's actually crazy. Like, honestly, you could get him for forty five bucks. Austin Eckler is going to go for 60. Tony Pollard would probably just be better than Austin Eckler this year. I kind of genuinely mean this. Tony Pollard should maybe be the first pick in fantasy football. Right? You can convince me. Kind of genuinely. Well, he does have a great offensive line. There are going to be a couple of games against bad teams where he, you know, you have him on Thanksgiving or something and he puts up the four touchdown hundred and eighty yard game. I can see it. So I guess I'm up then because you guys all agreed. You can have anybody you want. My one true love this year, Jalen Hurts of the Philadelphia Eagles, who I also like for MVP. So. Last year, he missed two games and they also blew out what what was a D .K. like seven, eight team, seven, eight games where they just like in the fourth quarter, they didn't even really have to play offense. They're just kind of running out of the string. Yeah, I don't think their defense is going to be as good this year. Sheila Kapadia on the on the NFL show has been talking about this. I think it's to be better than he thinks, but it won't be as good on it. And their schedule is tougher. But, you know, is it possible that he's like a four thousand one thousand guy with some sort of combination of 40 to D like everyone agrees they have the best offensive line in the league. Everyone agrees the one to A .J. Brown, Devonta Smith punch is way up there. And I'm saying like Schrager on TV this week was saying Devonta Smith, this is the year he jumps up to the chase class. So we have that with Dallas Goddard, who everybody thinks is the best all around tight end in the league, the guy who actually blocks and plays three downs, running backs, whatever. Put anyone behind there and they'll gain 80 yards. And then he's going to get a lot of the goal line carries. I think he's my top QB this year. I think I would take him before everybody else. So I don't even think it's that controversial. What do you think of that one? He is, I think you're right. I think the key point you have there is that he barely played in the fourth quarter last year. That's the key thing. He was already in a per game basis. He was the best quarterback in fantasy last year and he barely played the fourth quarter. Yeah. So you could argue he hasn't even reached the ceiling yet. He's our number one guy on the guide right now, I believe. Shameless plug for fantasyfootball .300 .com. He's our 21st player. We have like all our rankings there. And yeah, he has the highest floor and the highest ceiling. My favorite stat about Jalen Hurts, other than 18 rushing touchdowns in 18 games last year, Jalen Hurts had more games over 30 points than under 20. That's everything you want in a quarterback. Well, so he's number one in our guide, but I still feel like in a draft, Mahomes is going over him because of the Mahomes. It's just the most fun to have Mahomes. The R. And I actually think that's a little nuts this year. DK, Hurts is I think either 12 to 1 or 11 to 1 on FanDuel for MVP. And I think those odds are the most out of whack of all the MVP odds, because that's, if you're going to say the MVP is going to come from an awesome team, they're probably one of the five teams that has a chance to go 13 and 4, 14 and 3, something like that. He, they have the most talent on offense, I think, of any team that's going to be in the MVP conversation and we've seen him get better every year. So why is he 11 to 1, 12 to 1? Shouldn't he be like 6 to 1, 7 to 1? Shouldn't it be where Josh Allen is? I don't, is it just because of the previous like impressions that he was a, what was he a third round pick or second round pick and maybe hold on to that for too long? Or maybe it's just because he's surrounded by such a good team. I don't know. But yeah, like you said, he's improved pretty much every season he's been playing, even going back to college. You know, from everything that we've heard, he is maniacal about like working and leadership and just all the things, all the intangibles. And then, of course, you know, if he takes a jump as a passer this year, you know, that's going to be huge for him because he's already like one of the best running quarterbacks. He's double digit rushing touchdowns in the last two years. You know, everything about him screams just, you know, like the face of the franchise season. He's everything they want. And so I could see it like from a narrative point of view, for sure. It reminds me of what you used to have with Russell Wilson when he was alive.

"I don't know if I like that. I I like as a coach like an outlier in appearance like a Like someone who's either very old Not in great shape Like looks battle -hardened. There's something to that for me because Well Vic Fangio is Mike McDaniel's defensive coordinator Now Vic Fangio is still the head coach of the Broncos we'd have and Vic and I are from Scranton That would have been a very well Vic is from Dunmore I'm from Scranton. Let me because he'll correct you when you say that but That would have been an obvious one, but you get rid of Vic Fangio you get rid of me as a franchise So but Vikings are good But again, it's like I like So what I like about them So the wholesome part like Kirk Cousins has got that covered but on top of that, right like I do think like the way they treated their plate like one thing that was very noticeable to me was the way they handled all their outgoing players this year and If you go back and you look like Dalvin cook Patrick Peterson Eric Kendricks All these got Adam feel and all these got Dalvin cook all these guys they offloaded None of them have anything bad to say about the Vikings because of the way they handle those guys on the way out And then what you have remaining? Is maybe the most exciting young player in the game and Justin Jefferson, right? Proximity, New Jersey, that's an easy flight. It's a Delta hub So you have like you can get there really really easily and probably like an hour and a half two hours I feel like the young core there is good. They're very Forward thinking with quasi Adolfo Mensa is their GM who's kind of like a good merger between analytics and scouting. I Think there's a lot there I mean I just think that and I don't think that they're at the level of like the Bears or the Giants where it's like Alright, like that's a hit. That's a team that like has Like it's hard to just join that established fan base You know what? I mean? Like I feel like they're like maybe a notch below that and they're Minnesota nice. They would let me in My problem is I feel like as my kids get older. I need the head coach to be Older than me because like I think Kevin O 'Connell and I are pretty close to the same age We're in the same NFL locker room together when I was a young beat reporter and he was I covered him to Quarterback. Yeah, it's so I think like I would imagine like maybe one day my kids being like Oh the head coach of the Vikings is 40. Why aren't you doing anything? Cool dad? You're you're 40 so that's just something that's kind of the back of my radar, but I do I I Do support moving the Vikings up? to to a hot team Potentially and I do like I like that They're a little earlier in the cycle because it would be a little strange to I think the Jaguars are a very appealing pick It would be strange to become a Jaguars fan and then for the rest of your life people say Oh, how'd you become a Jaguars fan? And you say well, it was Trevor Lawrence's third season They had already proven they could win a playoff game and I said now's a good time for me to hop on the Jacksonville bandwagon Jacksonville just feels like I don't know. It's like too obvious too obvious That's how I feel about Detroit too, which is in this category. We haven't even talked about. Yeah. Yeah No, I'm with you Detroit's too obvious and part of this is gonna be You know, I want a fan base that handles success. Well, I think on this list a lot of teams that got punished Are teams whose fans when they achieve sudden success? Just collectively become like the largest group of douchebags on the planet and is that how you feel about Eagles fans? People would describe Patriots What I like about Eagles fans, I will say this you're getting dangerously close to early Bill Simmons era Boston and A Boston Red Sox Boston Celtics where you're making it a lot about you and I think you are over rating The struggle that's what I would say and it's there's a very theatrical Element to all that we had to go through in the empty stadiums at the link and oh The fellowship what we called it up here was right before they like the championships started here They called it the fellowship of the miserable up here But it's theater, right? It's acting some of it is Yeah, I mean like the whole like going to your you know Great -grandfather's grave site the day after the Red Sox won the World Series. There was definitely some of that Okay, I can see that to one up that I will say the morning of the Super Bowl this past year I saw videos from Philly where people were at their grandparents grave sites tailgating And they had run like they were tailgating with their dead relatives I remember walking into the stadium in Arizona being sent these videos Wait a minute Can you imagine like driving by a cemetery and seeing like an RV parked in the middle of it and just like a half dozen people hanging out But that's also part of why I'm weary about Philly like there's always there's already this established fan Subculture and then to be able to fit in I would have to be so extra beyond what I am now And so I think that there's a little bit of pressure there to be there's a high barrier to entry to be a fanatical Eagles fan I think yeah, I also think Philly is a very strong 4 -4 kind of city and I know there are others on the list I'm not saying that's exclusive to Philly But I think it it is Particular there where it's like the diehard Eagles fans are tend to be also diehard Sixers Phillies fans It's not an easy city to sort of pick and choose one team a la carte and have other interests It feels like everyone's very much dialed into all of the teams I know there are other four for four cities people probably listening to the saying or cities like that, too But it feels it feels like some very passionate fans as I know and I think it would be a tough place to just sort Of hop in as just an Eagles fan it would it would anybody else have a candidate to bump up from maybe teams So we're moving the Vikings up right moving the Vikings up Okay, I'm gonna have to you know, the Kevin O 'Connell thing is a me issue.

"It was just one thing after the other of mistakes that added up. Like things needed to go perfect for the Vikings. To which came in the second half. I was you were at the game, I was texting Ryan. I mean, you were in the group chat, but I'm sure you were busy enjoying the game. But we were up with three minutes and 52 seconds left. And I was like, all right, four minute office. You're a championship team. You don't give them the ball back. They do some crappy screenplay. They get a false start. That goes nowhere, the next play. And then third down is incomplete pass. So they got the balls like you got the ball back with like, yeah, still three minutes left. So that wasn't all time failure. What was I put them just not running the ball too? In the second half, they just stopped running. They were running well to begin the game. Singletary two touchdowns, right? The first half is how the bills offense should look. Run the ball, quick passes, Alan doesn't need to be a hero. And then they look good. And then the second half turned into crap. And then don't even get me started on cam Lewis. We should have done a podcast on at night because I was all sorts of fired up, but bleeping ball down. Justin Jefferson made some sick catch, but it's not the dang ball down. Yeah, if he just knocks it down, he couldn't have made the catch, so. I don't know how you guys feel. For the first time in forever, I feel like the bills aren't the Super Bowl favorite for me. They just, they make stupid

And he in this one half step like slows his body down, basically he's so big that he can back the defender off and then catches it, but you don't notice this until unless you watch it like 5, 6, 7 times and you're like, oh, like, this wouldn't have happened somewhere else with somebody else. This is pretty amazing. And but he does that all the time. It's almost like, you know, this is like Gary, this is a good analogy that I'm about to pull out of my butt. You know when catchers are really good at framing pitches? Yeah. And they'll make a lot of balls look like strikes. Yep. I think Justin Jefferson is making a lot of balls look like strikes. Okay. I like that. That was a good one. I'm glad that came out of your butt. We're off to a good start here. So let's talk about the bills a little bit. I will, I will go out on an island with this take right now. You can join me if you want. It's a very nice island. I still believe the bills are definitively objectively and by somewhat large margin. I don't want to overstate it, but they're the best seamen football. I still think they're the best team of football. The one thing I worry about coming out of this one is there are a lot of really good wide receivers in this league. They're going to see tyreek hill again this year. We know what the Bengals have in Jamar chase should that come up in the postseason. They are just sort of undermanned in the secondary, and they have performed admirably. But I think you saw it a couple times in this game where their young cornerbacks were just sort of not capable of keeping the ball out of the hands of Justin Jefferson or Adam Thielen that moments in this

"I mean, it's painful. Remember that Philadelphia drafted Jalen reagor instead of drafting Justin Jefferson who is a star standout receiver in Minnesota. It's a painful reality that Jalen rigor every time he fails, everyone is reminded that, oh, they could have had Justin Jefferson instead, how frustrating and painful is that. In fact, they're talking about how Philadelphia should draft another receiver this year. That'd be three years in a row drafting a receiver in the first round. Partially because Jalen Reagan just hasn't been good enough and hasn't got it done. By the way, Dallas got their tight end had a great year as well. He was our second leading receiver. He had 56 catches for 830 yards and for touchdowns. Philadelphia surprised me in so many ways last year. Their left tackle. Jordan my lada became a starter before the season started got a massive contract. I love him. He's a great his interview. Short of my Lana is such an easy to like guy. Philly's defense did some really good stuff. They were actually a top ten defense, which I didn't really expect. Some of their free agent signings did really well in their secondary. Philadelphia even mostly only lost to good football teams. You know, they lost a total of 9 games last year, including their playoff loss to Tampa. Here are the 7 good teams that Philadelphia lost to. Kansas City, they lost to the cowboys twice, they lost a Tampa twice, they lost the forty-niners and the Chargers, that's 7 losses to good teams. Those are like kind of honorable losses for a team the Philadelphia Eagles who I thought wasn't as good as any of those teams. They really I thought beat everyone they should have, they lost to teams that I can understand them losing to. And I was very pleasantly surprised with the eagles during the 2021 season. They got a lot of people in that building that I find myself rooting for. Jalen hurts, Nick Siri. Devonta Smith is awesome. I love his attitude as a work ethic. Joe to my lot, a Darius slay, I would love to see Philadelphia build off what they did last year and get even better in 2022. Maybe when their division I'd be really, really cool. I hope it's the beginning of something because I am rooting for them. They won me over..

"I mean, I understand the mindset, but we're not, we're not run defenses, got to stop this. We've got to there is free agency too. Like, we're going to fill these in more than just the draft. So I guess it's what do you want to eat your cap's face with less, 'cause you're going to be paying that rookie guy a lot less. I don't know. I really don't. I think the tackle. I think we're gonna go D tackle in the first round. And find a way to resolve that right. Right tackle is not as big of a salary bust as a left tackle. So then you can find a good solid strong right tackle and free agency to short things up once the log just turns to ashes and never sees the last day ever again apparently. I've never seen the guy. Rudy looks like so we're just we're riding we're riding for log off, like he's never gonna be able to stand it. Can't stay healthy. Whatever the injury was to require what two surgeries during the season like before the season even really started. I mean, in his age, and you take all that into consideration like, yeah, he's not going to get another contract. No, no, no, no, no. Yeah, I think the D is where the biggest issues are, like, again, like Justin Herbert throws amazing when he's under pressure. He's got like almost. It's fine. Pressure's fine. Because most of the time and not all the time. And there are certainly instances where guys get it in year three year four year 5 later on in their careers. But from an eye test perspective it does feel like for the most part you kind of know almost right away if a guy's going to be really really good or not and the NFL there's very few first round picks. Let's call it. Maybe some of those a guy like Julian Edelman right who's a 7th round pick and it takes some three or four years to break out as a receiver. But guys that are first round picks like Nikhil Harry you are either really really good right away or it's clear that you were overdrafted. There's not all there's usually not an in between. Some of those guys for instance Cordero Patterson. They can find a role for themselves in the NFL even though they don't pan out as a receiver. The first round is does it become Who's the ADP? Am I trading? Austin? Ekeler. Am I getting Austin Ekeler and Justin Jefferson. As opposed to Delvin Cook and Keenan Allen. Maybe a bad example. Maybe a group of Showing Watson's peers But, man, you're putting it out there like this is he's the worst person on the face of the planet over and over and over and over and over again and then, obviously Rusty Harden started the fire back, and it just got got tit for tat and all of a sudden it stopped. Not like it trickled to a stop. It just stopped. And usually when that happens As Amy Dash pointed out, That's where I first saw it. It usually means that there is a settlement or their settlement talks being negotiated right now, now that that that that notwithstanding because I think we kind of thought that for a couple of weeks Now the question will be. What will the NFL do? What? Well, what will be Roger Goodell stance? If this is settled, and all of these potential of these, a plaintiffs who were going after the Shawn Watson now the sudden have gag orders or are contractually obligated not to speak to the NFL investigators and they have no there's no evidence like everything just kind of goes away. Does Roger Goodell now say all right, Well, there's no evidence we didn't We couldn't you know, find anything Did Shawn Watson you're not suspended at all? I don't think I don't think it'll be that. I think it'll be somewhere around three or four games that he'll get suspended to start this season that when I was asked about this a month ago, I forget who I was doing. Um, you know, maybe maybe I forget who I was doing. A show is just talking about this situation when it was first going down, and they asked me point blank. What do you think that showing? Watson's penalty is going to be? I said, you know, the commissioner can go to six games, right? The the player conduct. Um Regulations and rules dictate that six games is really where you start, but they come south of that. Sometimes I suspect without concrete evidence and Smoking gun, so to speak, and legal jargon that it'll be about four games. That's what I would say. I think that feels very low to me. If he settles with 22 women, you gotta give him a month gum in. But what's the What's the What's the 22 with media? Settle with you Miss four games? Yeah, but horrendous Look at B team is not spending for the whole season. There's nothing that you can you can point to that says. He did x y Z. "There's a laundry list of problems. Injuries. Fumbles. Interceptions. Supposedly not this great teammate as I thought he was when I was in Philadelphia, covering Carson once because there's story after story. But right now he's not even welcoming. Nick Syriani is the head football coach. So I understand why Carson could be upset with the organization. Howie Roseman should have been fired and he wasn't But they have catered to Carson once. They have made moves to support Carson once financially. Unfortunately for them. They drafted offensive lineman and Dillard who didn't work out. They drafted. They tried to draft the right wide receivers, and they Missed and they missed in a big way. When Justin Jefferson and DK Metcalf turned out to be the players that they have been last year, too. And you get JJ Ortega Whiteside with DK on the board. And you get Jalen Reagor with Justin Jefferson on the board. You got a lot of egg on your face. So I understand why Carson is frustrated, however. Carson. Why does not put in a big time stats? This is not as if you look at the situation. You could tell me with 100% clarity that Carson Wentz the reason why he's not performing well is because the Eagles have screwed him over. Does it factor into the poor play? Yes. But didn't the Texans this past year screw over to Shawn Watson? And to show him what's at least put up good numbers. Carson's at least not even trying to show you the light at the end of the tunnel right now, with the way that he's playing So without knowing what exactly have to fix with Carson Wentz because I can't control his health. If you bring in Jamie's Winston and you use that run game with Jonathan Taylor, you had the hog Molly and Quinn and Nelson with that great offensive line for the Indianapolis Colts and a good defense. Wouldn't the turnovers you would think Would go down in some capacity with Jamis Winston James Winston. Yeah, he had 30 interceptions. It was brutal. Have you could cut that down to half of it? And still 15 is a high number. But if you could give me James Winston at let's just say 28 touchdown passes 15 interceptions and throw for 4300 yards. You would take that. As you're starting Foundation if your Colts fan If it came down to Jamie's Winston, or if it came down to Carson once. I'd rather have James Winston. I don't know. I'd say you're coming off one of the best years in college football history. You won just about every single award out there Now you're getting ready for the draft. You're doing the interview circuit. It seems like life is pretty good As you look back on a magical season. What kind of thoughts do you have? I know you're looking forward. But if you take one last look at last season, what kind of thoughts do you have? It's just a blessing. Just feel part of the team to be able to do everything that we did at the team and just finished with that picture. When I look the way that played out when jail in water went down, you stepped up in a huge, huge way. And you yourself pointed out, quote. A lot of people outside the program expected the team to take a step back because water was really good. But instead, everybody stepped up. Like when you look at the way the team did step up. How proud were you in the way they took that step and how to explain the way everybody lived in their game. Um, is that us being around? There's always next man up mentality, so just everybody just fine and just completely do that job nor that one man went down that the next man coming up, you just have to Up into their world and just do your job. You know, I talked to Devante Smith joining me. I talked to Mark Ingram yesterday on the program. He was raving about you. He was talking about how special he think she was a player. What's it like to have another Alabama legend talking about you in such a manner and doesn't feel real to know that you're on the same level now is Mark Ingram. It's a blessing. Just the guys that came before me that Get out of the blue period and I'm just following the deli and just continue the legacy. Vontae Smith is joining us. You know, As long as we're talking about teammates Matt Jones had a huge season is well, I'm curious. What was he like to play with? And what would you tell NFL teams about how good he is as a quarterback and what they'd be getting if they bring him in? Magazine best at what he does what he does so with him. It was a blessing, just a bit of a coast saving and just see the way he carried him feel and how he goes about things approach everything like it's a business, so it definitely rubbed off on me. And he told me a lot of things that helped me into the man. I am today. E thought that not only do you have one of the greatest seasons that we've ever seen, but you have one of the all time great Heisman speeches. When you said, quote all the young kids out there. They're not the biggest, not the strongest. Just keep pushing because I'm not the biggest. I've been doubted a lot because my size and really, it just comes down to putting your mind to it. You can do it. No job is too big and a quote. It's a great great mindset in attitude where that mindset in attitude come from. Um, just when I was young, I grew grow about apart so going over there with the other guys playing with them, and they always try to bully me and just keep me away, But I just can't come back and just never let tell me. Listen to decide what's your mindset, But then there's like the technical aspects, right? Like to your point. If you're not the biggest or the strongest, you're still out there dominating games. How are you able to explain the fact that you get that kind of separation and actually make it look easy? If you're not the biggest, and you're not the strongest. How do you do that? Um Didn't just watch fam. Just knowing what defense they're gonna do. What the guy against me. What he's uncomfortable doing it just keeping them all comfortable, so it really just comes out knowing your opponent. But talking to Devante Smith, also you're from a small town in Louisiana that I want to ask you about you pretty much help. Put them on the map for those who don't know where you grew up. What city are you from? And then what was life like for you growing up there? From 80 that we down not to be. Why they have that It was a lot of family, so I used to go from house to house, the family members and just playing with everybody, and it was a community that was together. Everybody's come to park play football, baseball basketball, so it was always something to do. Just everybody around. It was always into sports. We're talking Devante Smith, the husband trophy winner, Then you end up in Alabama and is a freshman. You're going up against the likes of Marlon Humphrey. Make a Fitzpatrick and you're holding your own. These are two of the best players in the NFL. What do you remember about those early battles when you got on campus? On really with them. It was just the way they carry themselves, just watching everything they do, how they went about their business, and it just rubbed off on me. And just watching them just made me want to do the things that they were doing because I knew that there was Going in the right direction. Devante Smith is with Autotrader today. That's how you know From Stanford. This go, who didn't finish in San Francisco to Pittsburgh to Baltimore to Buffalo. To Cleveland to Denver to New England. The fact that all of you are complaining. Is all the evidence. I need to prove to you that the NFL did not play favorites. I feel like everyone is doing that's probably having a crappy day today. E mean, let's be honest, the NFL took its turns. Taking off franchises in their fan base is this year. And as I hear how we open the show, something that I said very wisely in the past. We'll get to your fan base eventually. We haven't offended you yet. We will, Because that's sports were in Cleveland. Nothing is easy here by mistake. That blood. Where is he? You know they do. Those magazine covers every now and then s I does. Where in the world is David Black. Where is he now? I'm not sure we need to Google it. But maybe it's a unanswered for another Another show another time, like the wide receiver question. Do you know I almost I didn't quite get to it this year, but it was stuffed in my back pocket. The question of the best young stud wide receiver in the NFL because that one is another really good. Question. There's so many athletic wide receivers. And I just got this tweet, but I was up against the clock. So obviously I left out a lot of really good wide receivers that Calvin Ridley, another one that impresses me, week after week. Above average job handling the pandemic and handling football in a pandemic. You some of you were working here. Look, some of you are a ticked about the way your team was treated. But again, there are lots of Franchises that felt like they had a beef. One week it was this team the next week, It was another team and the NFL marches on and my entire point to you this whole Four months of the season has been If the NFL stopped And change the schedule or postpone games every single time. One team had a competitive advantage or competitive disadvantage We never would have gotten through the season. That's why the NFL continue to move forward even when a team was left at a disadvantage. A little bit like bad officiating. Thies guys, They're human beings, right? They make mistakes. But much too. The chagrin of fan base is that when it happens against them, the thing is What goes around eventually comes around. It doesn't affect one fan base or one franchise more than it affects another. Now officials make mistakes, and they Don't play favorites with with who they screw up against. The NFL every week. Had to figure out How to navigate what we're completely unprecedented challenges and and ones that would pop up with really not a moments notice. Even if you Think your faith or your franchise was treated unfairly in your fan base. Got the shaft. You have to admit that to get through 17 weeks with his many moving parts, as they did Not skip or cancel even a single game and to finish on time. Even begrudgingly. You have to be impressed with what the NFL did this season. You don't have to like how it affected your team, but you have to be impressed. No other league did that. It did not work for college football. NBA and NHL were in bubbles, which wasn't possible for the NFL. NASCAR a little different more of an individual sport, though they had the team component, of course on pit road, but they kept those guys so completely separate. I don't practice together, so to speak. We're not talking about dozens and dozens, even hundreds of people who have to be together all the time. They really kept them isolated. Facilities were closed. Teams practiced in parking lots. Entire Offensive or defensive lines were out at the Raiders. If they feel like they got slighted or the NFL handed them an unfair advantage. You know, 92 yards receiving, but coming out of the gate with with 41, then the ripple effect. I mean, all the coverage is like we thought we talked about the pregame show. Not my belief was that a J Green was gonna have without Jimmy Smith out there. He was gonna have like the fourth corner and he did early in the game. But then when tea, Higgins goes out No, it changes everything around. You could start doubling Tyler boy taking it just changed the whole dynamic that you lose. Ah, Player of his caliber as early as you did. The whole passing attack becomes a much different equation matching up with that secondary of the Baltimore Ravens. He's got an ability to sink his hips, getting a lot of cuts he had Some concentration with some drops, you know, didn't catch everything he could have cotton caught. But the other thing he's got an attitude. He understood his assignment. He understood what he was supposed doing. Why was supposed to do it and how he was supposed to get it done? That's big, and I think it lent itself to getting in a rhythm quickly and in a time in a coordination with three different quarterbacks that's hard to do is a rookie. "Specifically, the guards left a lot to be desired, with all due respect. And you lose route off than a couple of tight ends. And Smith and Conklin they jump up. I just feeling at 14 touchdowns 13 in the Red Zone number one in the NFL. I just can't stress enough. How well Gary Kubiak cousins in the offense did through the totality of all 2020. And if you can, if you can amplify that And and find better protection for Kirk. It's one of the questions I laid out for Gary 11 20 K F A. N If you put if you provide requisite protection for Kirk Cousins, who's one of the most accurate quarterbacks in the history of the NFL, he'll kick your ass. On in every week basis, and that's really what it's all coming down to. Now, with Cook Jefferson feeling a draft coming up and this quarterback, so there are a lot of positive things offensively on which to build and absolute reparation needed with the defense. Kirk Cousins is obviously no Aaron Rodgers. She's obviously know Tom Brady. He doesn't have a ton of rings and you know a bunch of record setting seasons or things like that to T attack on to his resume. But when you talk about Justin Jefferson having these receiving yards and you talk about Galvin Cook, You know, nearly getting 2000 yards who's throwing the ball to Justin Jefferson? It's Kirk cousins, right? He's on the other end of every one of those yards. Dalvin Cook doesn't get 2000 yards. If there's no threat of if there's a reasonable threat of a passing game, the defense's have to account a ma'am. I mean, you guys dealing with political, worldly, earthly American related issues. On a daily basis. I mean, that's real stuff. Where where we leave work and with our personal lives, we live it. You know this? That you that you really are excited to see Besides Jefferson being the obvious choice well with with with Justin quickly because this is too understated for my liking, And I think it's going to stay understated. What? Which is sad because Justin, he's nose and nose with Herbert for the Chargers for rookie of the year. Justin plays quarterback Herbert So he's probably gonna win on Brandy Mosses rookie year in 98. I mean, it was one of the most fantastic, splashy explosive things anybody's ever seen from a rookie. Justin's wasn't okay he had, like six or seven games with 50 yards or fewer couldn't find him with a search light first two games because he wasn't ready, and he had zero touchdowns on the road, but End of the equation. I just can't stress with everything I've seen over two decades of calling games for this team. Do what this young man did with a virtual offseason memorizing things off Zoom for the first time in the history of the NFL and having no preseason games. And and being your first year it's to break two of three Randy Moss related rookie records and to break an 18 year old yardage record for rookie set by Anquan Boldin. With that virtual offseason. No preseason games are running back with 2000 scrimmage yards, another wide receiver with 14 touchdowns. Are you kidding me?
