"Defense was Baltimore's calling card, and I don't think they did nearly enough to preserve it. Now. Look for Israel Thomas a better player than Eric Weddell. Yes. But wet all was an emotional and locker room leader there. Earl Thomas will have that influence, but I think that hurts. Teases? Oh that hurts. Moseley that hurts you you just can't lose that level of player and in numbers and have a defense that's going to be at that level. And from an offensive standpoint, they just didn't do anything to upgrade. I I don't think they needed. Mark ingram. They could've used Gus Edwards and Kenneth Dixon. And and and and jewelry is Allen. And just keep on going down the road. They could have drafted a running back in the third or fourth round. I I really didn't like their off-season loser. You will be losing to the Browns. I found this one interesting loser. The chiefs they say they cut Justin Houston traded D four which takes away of their defense pass rush. But they also got rid of Nelson who came to my Steelers, but they got Matthew in place of Eric berry. Those are loser. Well, I will gently say loser. Here's the thing. I don't love de Ford is a player. Go look at his numbers. He's been very unproductive for his career. And then I'll have a hot streak Justin Houston is not the player they signed. He's not the player they hoped. He was going to be. It's not about getting rid of them. That bothered me. It's what are you going to do to replace Toronto? Matthew, I love you can drop down play the slot. He's an effective Blitzer. He's a very good safety. And you know, people don't realize that the Honey badgers only twenty six feels like he's been in the league for twelve years. I loved the signing. But I'm wondering if the chiefs are. Setting up something I'm wondering if there's a big like another shoe. That's that's set to drop frayed move.

Chiefs release four-time Pro Bowl OLB Justin Houston

"A second. Here's a name that I thought of the during the break. The less than twenty four hours ago. The Kansas City Chiefs officially released Justin Houston, so Justin Houston will be a free agent. Justin, Houston at the right price could be a name. And that's the thing with all these free agents go oh at the right price. You got to see what the price is going to be. And it comes down to how many teams want to services of someone who does the player want to take the most money or does the player that is a little bit up there in age wanna put himself in a good position to win. A ring. Justin, Houston is thirty will turn thirty one in January. He's had a very good career as we know there's one year at twenty two sacks in a season that was back in two thousand fourteen. So he's not the twenty two sacks in a season type of player anymore, but this past year in twelve games. He had nine sacks two thousand seventeen and fifteen games. He had nine and a half sacks. Hasn't played a full sixteen games. Back to two thousand fourteen has only played sixteen games three times in his career. Justin, Houston, though at the right role at the right price. I bring him in with the Philadelphia Eagles. I would start to look in try to I would evaluate in there with this football team. Yeah. And I don't know how much this matters. But you obviously have the Doug Peterson connection to Kansas City. Yeah. That's true. Even though he was on the offense side of the ball. But you could know him, and you could have some conversations with them. I don't think it's a horrible suggestion. The question is what is Justin Houston looking for as you always get into that? Because when you're thirty you could be looking for, okay. This is the last time I may get. One more decent contract with some years on it. Or do you look for the short term deal and try to win? And the eagles are one of those destinations that are well respected in the National Football League. Now, we're teams look at them. And they think they could win and there's other organizations as well. So Justin Houston was one. I'm okay with what the eagles have done for the most part. There's some things that you question. I don't think. But from what you expect you to bring back golden Tatum fine with that. I like bringing back Brandon Graham, I don't like trading Michael Bennet. But there's ways to replace it. And obviously think very highly of Derek Barnet. It's what else do you go because that's an offensive line that we have praised it in years past for the depth. They still have some names, but they're missing now

NFL Rumors Mailbag: Kyler Murray, Justin Houston Trade

"Yeah. What this is shocking to me in the sense that when we were having this discussion about quarterback musical chairs in the fall. My thought had always been the Jags are going to draft a quarterback. And it still seems to me like the more prudent direction here is for them to move up for Golic Hoskins or Murray rather than giving Nick foles twenty million dollars a year when you're already over the cap, it just I just don't understand what if the answer is both. And what I mean by this is that Dave Gettleman came out and said the sin. I think this has the opportunity to be very dumb trend around the league. But did other came out and said, we'll work was the Kansas City mom's it's stupid way to think about which is adding a veteran die on a legitimate contract. And then the guy learning behind him. Now, I don't think that them bring in foles precludes them from taking quarterback in the first two rounds. I don't know if they bring in foles, obviously at a number like twenty they're not gonna trade up into the top five, but they could still draft a a significant future starter quarterback type guy. Now, I think is a couple of things we need to to sort of peel back on with the Kansas City model first of all not everybody's gonna be Patrick Mahomes. Second of all the infrastructure in Kansas City was so remarkably good perfect. They basically structure had Nagy and and read working with Smith and they assigned Mike kaffa to Patrick Mahomes. And so you. Had not only Mahomes working with Alex Smith every day working with read in in meetings. But also anytime he needed something explained to him. He basically had the quarterbacks coach at his disposal. The infrastructure and other places is not going to be like that. There aren't three really smart or four because out include Eric b enemy in that. There are not four really smart innovators in thirty one of the other teams in this league. So if you're going to try the Kansas City, Molly better have Kansas City coaches, and you'd better have talent like Patrick Mahomes need better have a leader like Alex Smith. I just think that was a unicorn if you want to replicate a good luck. It does not make sense to me to allocate your resources in that way. If you're going to sign Nick foles, the idea of drafting a quarterback in the first two rounds, you are team that is built to win at this very moment. That's why you're signing foles using a high level draft pick on a quarterback while also burning twenty million bucks on your starter that I I have no idea. Why teams think that's a good? It's the same thing. The cardinals last year paying Sam Bradford what they did. Wall dressing. Josh Rosen like just put him in just put him in. I it's Mahomes is such a different case in that team was on such a different part of where they wanted to go in their schedule. The Jacksonville Jaguars are there. But why would you tr what would you also draft the guy? I just don't understand that at all. I don't know teams plan specifically. But there are a lot of teams don't know what they're doing. No. There are a lot of towns lie they're doing I don't know if anybody's looked into the last the NFL's celebrating one hundred years and one of the Constance is like my field of dreams speech. The only constant is a lot of teams and have no idea what they're doing my favorite part about. This is gonna be what happens with the offensive line market the players in the pass rushing market or good enough that even with those top four guys off giving Dante Fowler big deal or Trey flowers Iansa. There are players I like in that group more than others. But I'm still okay. With a guy like trae flowers. Getting paid. But it's going to be amazing when the guy Daryl Williams is off the board and then Roger Sappho than teams like, well, we're the Donovan Smith winners five years sixty million.

"So where do you look at teams you look at teams with a lot of cap space who can afford to maybe pay a little bit more for two years of an above average linebacker, and it's easy to look right through the Indianapolis Colts in Cleveland Browns because these teams with chiefs connections of who probably know just in Houston, and they have a lot of cap despair. Pete Sweeney of Arrowhead pride. Pete. Why wouldn't they just wait for the chiefs to release them? Do you really think there's a bidding war happening for Justin Houston? I think the trade happens. If one of these teams don't wanna take the chance of him going elsewhere. I mean, I think you know, I don't wanna look at Justin Houston say there's no value to him anymore. There certainly is it's just chief can't afford what he brings to the table for the amount that pay. So a team would trade him. If they say, it is, you know, this is just hypothetically fade is a race between the Browns and the colts, for example. Maybe you make the trade. So that John Dorsey doesn't get a shot at him. If if you're Indianapolis, and maybe that's worth a sixth round, pick fifth round pick to you. And you know, people look at these draft picks, and you know, the Chiesa hit on some fifth found picks hit late in the draft. I mean Termonde Smith last year became your your, ticker Turner. I mean, I know it's not a murder, but that's your ticket Turner and think he did a pretty good job. So these are there still value there. And and again, the value of these other teams is to send a pic. So he. Doesn't end up. Elsewhere. Let's get to what really gets Pete emotional. When you hear everything that we heard yesterday from Andy Reid about Eric berry. The fact that he is not going to get surgery was which absolutely makes zero sense to me if he's going to be on the team next year, and how that's going to be any different than what they dealt with last year because he had a lot of time off and he still had problems with the pain. What are you here? And what is your first thoughts? When you hear the fact that Eric berry is just not going to have surgery. I find that in this situation, and as it started out really unpopular and as time has gone on. It's it's it's come around come back around to me. I just think that Eric berry is in more control of the situation. People think like if a player doesn't want to have surgery the team could recommend it the doctors recommend it. If at the end of the day he doesn't want to have the surgery because he's not feeling comfortable about his body. He doesn't have to do. So I think that's what happens in the situation. He wants to rested more, and what's horrible about that. And what his is completely silly about that we've already tried this thing before I mean, we tried to it before you rested for more than one hundred days for mid August to mid December. And that didn't work and to go against what had to have been ordered. If you have anything going on with this has formerly like there was a clear problem that probably surgery could fix the go and say, okay, I'm not going to get the surgery. I'm going to be good. We're gonna try the same thing that didn't work last year. I mean that to me is a little bit. Selfish. Like, I I don't I don't and people people get me on Twitter. Like, oh, you hate Eric berry. I don't hate Eric berry. I hate the past that he gets in Kansas City for some for another part of his career that has nothing to do with this part..

I got sucked into the narrative that the chargers we're gonna go into that stadium. Beat the patriots. I was mistaken. Well, here's one difference in the match up between the chargers and the pads and the matchup this Sunday with the patriots in the chase New England all year. There has been a dominant home team have a loss. The patriots on the road vulnerable. The patriots and championship games on the road phone or bowl. And I don't think they're going to have an answer for the most electrifying player in the sport. I think it's Eddie reads time, I think it's Patrick Mahomes. Does that chief defense scare me? You better believe it scares me. Well, I need is one or two plus. I was going to win this game. It's gotta be of the thirty thirty one high scoring variety. People didn't get that here. I think it will be late Justin Houston sack, maybe strip. Like we had it last year civil pass rush to make a big play. I'm Mahomes going to be dancing all over the field. Maybe this is my heart. Maybe this is just me not wanting to stomach another year with a patriots plan in the Super Bowl. I just think she sat answer all year. I think home field is that important. "Now back to replay with art Hayes as the capital federal game continue. The cheap set at twenty one to three halftime lead. But Oakland had the ball to begin to third quarter. Doug, Martin avoided a tackle the backfield cloud for first down rushing and tight end. Jared cook fought off defenders to hang on for a double digit game through the air at twenty five yard connection from Derek card. Jordy Nelson was white doubt. By a holding penalty at Emma chief pass, rush got home this crowd. That's been into it. And trying to force. The raiders are no mistake. And it's a sack back in midfield ball sports out but traveled up by the raiders, Derek Carr. Marcus Robinson pennies wide open their twenty fifteen backpedaling into the end zone. Touchdown chance city an eighty nine yard pass and Patrick Mahomes five thousand yards passing and fifty touchdowns in a single season. Now, it's twenty eight to three on their next possession. The raiders had third and two when the defense continued its good day. Rashard stays in running back sidecar, right? You'll get hit by the backfield. And for a loss that at midfield a loss of two on the play D Ford red run all the way it came crashing into crash. The party of Jalen, the chard and it'll be four down for the raiders. "And what you look at what Phillips is even always been to a Super Bowl. I mean, he played an AFC championship game with an ACL tear and wasn't able to get over the top and win the game. But again who wins in Foxborough against Tom Brady, nobody so I I really respect what he's able to do. I mean what he was able to. To do. This year has been phenomenal. Big thing. It's an improved with him. Is that he's doing more check downs and he's ever done before? And again, I I was stunned that he was able to win last night's game because more defensive lineman to him than anybody that sees it because Chris Jones Justin Houston, they were able to get to him more than anybody else. Because what hits thing is he's a quarterback savant. He's able to read everything and know where the ball's gonna go and gets rid of the ball so fast that it's like I was stunned that they were to get the fast as they did. But the fact that he was able to come back win the game with the big four with a big fourth quarter play. I just phenomenal. How good this guy is who which to you is the more impressive because on the road against the Steelers Sunday night football or this one divisional game, obviously for you know, to get to a tie with the kids within the division in the comeback within five minutes to go this one because the fact. Was able to execute that four thousand the fact that they could get the the play for the two point conversion. I mean. Unbelievable. I mean, you watch it was like might brave boys lost two games with four thousand place in Indianapolis probably caused themselves a chance to get to e play offs. Because again, they're pretty close. But again, you know, the fact that they went three times against Jacksonville in Jacksonville territory. But instead of going for the field goal they want for the fourth down. And then of course in the game. They basically should've taken a tie. I mean, they blew it. What Anthony Lynn did in going for the fourth down going for the play an a two point conversion phenomenal. It was able to win. I hate those plays because I think that if you look at the analytics, don't look like, okay? Analysts on the road. You go for the two point play. No. But he did it was able to get it wide. Open play John on the other side. I wanna talk about Pat Mahomes, and obviously he's a rockstar already in my mind in the NF. NFL? But it's very interesting when I watch him late in games and very close games. Couple of losses on the record for the chiefs this year. I find interesting the patriots loss the Rams laws and in last night's. No obstacles the chargers. Do you think Pat Mahomes? I not I want to ask you his ability to close out games. I just wanted to get your thoughts on where Pat Mahomes is with that. He's the best young quarterback. I think I may have ever seen. I mean, the fact is able to do this in his first year. I mean, I thought that the charges would win today because you know, Alex Smith say what you want about Alex go into the playoffs lose the first round. That's Alex Smith. He's Chad Pennington. But now Patrick Mahomes. He's played at eight maybe played it at unbelievable level in a sense that he'll forty five touchdown passes. The fact that makes unbelievable throws. I love this guy. This is one of the best quarterbacks. I've seen come into the league. I there's nothing, but total respect. I purposely flew to the Kansas City. Baltimore game. Just to watch him and watch. What Baltimore would they be able to do watch with Mahomes is unbelievable? This guy is going to be one of the best quarterbacks. I think may I have ever seen. And even though he didn't win the game on Thursday night. This guy is going to be I think two or three Super Bowls at the at the very early. I mean for for yourself. It's not about really judging or comparing quarterbacks, but when you put them on pedestals and doing that you have to decide which is which right? So with him because he has so much talent around like I feel like I knock them at times because of that because I'm like, well, you know, Brady does this a lot with, you know, certain not not like a plug and play guys..

"That's kind of what they're planning on using which to be fair. He led he came back. Let the colts to the Super Bowl two thousand show. Like if you get that performance at bury. It was all worth it. He was amazing when he came back. What did you guys make Justin Houston, Indiana? So once coming back we were talking about this on Monday of sometimes I think people diminish the value of Justin Houston because default played really, well, we don't know if we need them necessarily just in Houston is still one of the eight most important and best players on the team. Like, I don't know. How many guys on the defense? Make that interception in the spot that just in Houston dude on Sunday against the cardinals that this team still needs Justin Houston if they're trying to go to the Super Bowl. Yeah. You could tell he's he's played in a few games like on several screens. I noticed he stiffed it out really early. I noticed it before the. Dick, even and then he got that one. So that's you know could game changing play. He's probably past the point where he's like, you know, twenty guy, obviously. But not a ton of number to pass rushers. I think better than him when he's healthy. And and fully at it. I think what a pleasant surprise because. Yeah. Daniel Sorensen, you knew as a role player. It's good to get back in the lineup because you know, that he can start in the NFL. But it's nothing to the impact that Justin Houston could have. I was feeling similarly about Justin Houston based upon his recent games, and what we've seen from him. He didn't look like that dominant force on Sunday. That was old Justin Houston that. We were used to that can wreck games so on and so forth. So you have default on the other side just in Houston playing like that. You're Cornerbacks are playing good. You truly are a safety from a good defense. Which is something. We never thought we'd be saying seeing this defensive first few weeks of the season the thing to adjust Houston. I'm glad he made that play. And the reason I say that is because I don't think to Jordan people can if you're just watching the game if your average football fan guy, you don't understand how good is when it comes to stop the run and setting the edge out there, right? That doesn't really show up but isn't show them and fantasy stats. It doesn't make highlights. It doesn't do any of that. So I'm glad he'd made a huge play for everybody to see because I think, you know, the thought is with a lot of people if you don't sack the quarterback, you're not any good at your job. If you're an edge guide or an outside linebacker, and that's not the case just used it. So I'm glad he made like a visible huge play that had a huge impact on the game. So people could see I'm happy for him on that. You know, get off his jock a little bit man to do the Duke. There's been playing pretty well. And now he came back, and he made a play that I think pretty much won the game for them. I think now that PF is starting to get out there a little bit more NFL starting to get a little bit like baseball did when you all used to look at was batting average and home runs. And now you look at, you know, replacement value, I think now would hurry people aren't starting understand. Okay. Just because he's guys necessarily have all the sacks. Which is what Bob son's been preaching for what five years now the quarterback. And he's and for what it's worth chiefs altogether at twenty nine pressures on Sunday. That is a lot. Thirteen hits on the quarterback to which is ridiculous Twenty-nine pressured. I thought like eight of them came from D Ford. Yeah. It was fifteen combination of the linebackers deformed Justin Houston, and then twenty nine with a defensive line and as team Twenty-one pressures from guys not named Ford. That's incredible. Because I make the point of we have yet to see I think in the Andy Reid era them have all the pieces in all the weapons available apart of the puzzle..

"Pretty vintage pretty vintage Justin Houston right there. Justin Houston in coverage. I what. Let's not even get started. Head of all the things are doing. Yeah. I mean, I the even more so than the interception because I think if you're an outside linebacker slash defensive lineman in that front seven sometimes tough to come up with picks. Sometimes you got to get a little bit lucky just seeing that old school just in Houston that he's big body guy. But it's still really quick and can get to the quarterback. Just we haven't seen this version of Justin Houston that we saw in days game in a very very long time. I mean, there's been certain flashes of it over the years a couple times this year, but not consistently like, right? If he can start getting back to this every single week. This is it's gonna change the game for the chiefs defense. I mean, he at his best is a monster. And we saw a little bit today. I mean, you don't want to jinx it, and you worry. Okay. He had a hamstring that can linger. But again looked fine today. Do I dare ask if any chief's fan is going? Agree with our last caller and give Bob Sutton credit. No, then I mean, I I I mean, I'll get I I don't think anyone I don't think anyone is feeling compelled to get on the phone and call us and say, Bob Sutton for president that type of. I think there's a good amount of people that are out there that are like, okay. You know what? Bob zone dot Bob's in a good enough job this year. I I'm not I'm no longer. I no longer have the Tiki torch. Like they have in the Simpsons and calling for him to be fired from his position. See we'll see how everybody feels after the Rams game. Right. Should we'd make sure I I think the last caller is named James, but I could be wrong about that. But the last dude that called I wanna talk to you in eight days. All right Monday night when we're up doing this show late night next Monday. I wanna know of your to call in with the same thing if they if they lose thirty eight thirty five who knows if they will. I have no idea if they lose thirty eight thirty five Gough has three scores girly has to and they gave up four hundred seventy eight yards of offense. Right. All these numbers down. These are my official prediction if that happens is it still time to take some of the heat off of Bob Sutton, five seven six seven seven nine eight got a couple of guys on hold for a while start with Matt into Hampshire. What's up, Matt? I'm live in Hampshire from Kansas City. And I went up today. First of all just killed it today. And I want to say that I've been a fan of Bob sudden all year that he's been making stops when it matters third-down closing the game out. I've been really big fan of it. But first of all tyreek hill we were talking about him week one. And we haven't heard that much since I think he whispered in Petra for homes here this year. And he said I need to play today. Let's what makes them happen. And he showed up. He did. I mean, I think that there are a lot of people, you know. You know, this this team. Yeah. I mean. It's part of the reason why Sammy Watkins is happy here because he has no pressure on himself anymore. You can make a case and you watch a game. And I it just depends on the game. You know, you pick it where you you say to yourself man cream hunch to begin the Bowmore ever watched Travis Kelsey should begin the bomb every maim tyreek be the bomb every X amount of place. All these guys the football. And tyreek it was tiring. Turn today where you're like. Wow. What what he can do? They gotta find a way to mix them in more. And then Sammy kind of picks up the scraps from there, you know. But he he obviously didn't play. Well, I'm watching a little bit of this Rams and see how the can't keep changing the game on you never know. Which came. I'm watching sorry, buddy. We're watching the Rams and the Seahawks Seok threw a touchdown to a tight end. Maybe next week the focus is to get Kelsey the football because I I don't know the stats fantasy nerds would know this..

"It did matter they they find they found the way we did know that when they were onto they were they were going to come back and see here's the thing. When you pick the patriots, you're picking history of picking tradition. You're picking experience. It's the lies pick that you could make that doesn't mean the chiefs won't go to the Super Bowl this year. The Steelers won't come on and make a run the chargers. Anyone of them is capable? They could get hot. Let me say this about the that pig because of the if the chiefs actually should get home field advantage, which is no guarantee, you know, they they they've lost at home in the playoffs before. But I do wanna see there. I wanna see Justin Houston come. Back of you'd like see Eric berry back. I think they're a little bit better on defense at times, they're pretty fast over their defensive side. So I mean, I'm not ruling them out at all if I have to make a pick. I don't know how I can sit here make against the patriots based off history. But you bring up the chiefs at home, and they would be tough to beat at home. And and they have had a losing playoff history. I've been at their postseason losses when Elvis ker back didn't get it done against Denver when they're playing the colts. They writing thirteen and three and like nine thousand nine hundred went in there and beat them last year, they lost Tennessee. But the only difference this time is the quarterback. The quarterback is different there been so many Plath chokes Arrowhead for that team. But. Your current impact Mahomes is going to get better. See, that's that's kind of scary thing for people. He should get better. I already you see him doing certain things I not floating out of the pocket quite as quickly and set it up in the pocket. And now if they say healthy, I mean, yeah, I would never say don't forget the chiefs ill any reads never wanna Super Bowl any res one of the greatest coaches in the history of the NFL fame coach me too. Well, so we agree that the patriots would be the pick. But the chiefs cannot be ruled out if they're at home and have home field advantage. One other thing, by the way, and the most intriguing team of all is is just intriguing for different reasons is the are the chargers. I mean, I mean, they can't kick an extra point. No. But Philip rivers knows his his his stretch here going, and I do kind of know this, and I've always sense it because of the stadium they play at the stubhub stadium in Carson, California near my old hometown of Torrance. I would say this. You know, going on the road. They feel like they're on the road at home only playing against thirty thousand fans who don't want him to win going on wrote. It's it's more exciting to them energizing to them. But ultimately, it's still not easier to win every game on the road. Or you've made that point. There was a great point that the chargers sometimes might be better off playing on the road. And we'll see whether that holds up in the post got the AFC out of the way, the NFC you're gonna pick the saints to go to the Super Bowl right now. Forever. That's worth for whatever that's worth. I mean, do I do. I like the Rams a lot. Yeah. I do like the Rams a lot. But if this if yesterday by the saints, schedule stuff, they said, a b Atlanta Carolina couple times. But they just got on the road beat Baltimore. When Baltimore was hot in a beat him in the elements, and they want the Minnesota and beat Minnesota. And they just beat the Rams. So I'll I'll stick with that for now. I don't have to stick. With is the first time, I even said it. Well, the saints preseason picture I'll stick with them. But I will. Say this that the Rams I still think could get home field advantage. And I think he'll be tough to win in Los Angeles in January for anybody. Although the home field advantage for the saints is I think the biggest home field advantage. There could be Carolina people are overlooking. As you rightfully pointed out and have been very good and Philadelphia's still could come on here. Yes. Very much. So and and the falcons are going to be a factor. But I don't know if they team that ends up in their own stadium in February's..

"So I'm glad that you pointed these things out because it just so happens serendipitous -ly that I'm prepared to argue both of them. What the you talk about? How potent the posing offenses have been so far? I would make the argument that they've been so potent because they've gone up against this terrible chiefs defense, and that's allow them to inflate their overall rankings and their overall success for the season. And I want to talk about the injuries. Yes, you're right. Just the berries out Justin berry. That's a combination of Eric berry and Justin Houston Justin Houston's out Eric berries out. And I think it's easy to fall into the trap of believing that the record numbers for the chiefs currently that they're currently allowing on defense or nothing more than that natural byproduct of the offenses like their offense is dropping out huge leads, and that's forcing teams to take more and more risks and look for more and more chunk place. And that these these injuries are playing a huge part. I think it's very easy to say look. Oh, Justin Houston's not there. Eric berry is not there as the reason for their is Tanisha poor play. But but listeners would you be surprised to hear that since two thousand fifteen the chiefs are eleven and nine with both Justin Houston, and Eric berry healthy together in the lineup there twenty three and nine without them together in the lineup. Now is that more of an interesting happenstance than a damning Trent probably, but it also speaks to the fact that the team doesn't need those together in the lineup to win games. And that maybe their absences not as big a deal as you would think. So Pat, Mahomes, tyreek hill and the Kansas City. Chiefs offense are doing their job. But right now, they're being let down by the poor play on the defensive side of the ball that we saw this week against great teams. Whether or not the patriots are great team to be determined. But against great teams. They simply aren't good enough right now. Yeah. To be determined because I'm pretty sure somebody on the phone said that the patriots weren't exactly dead and buried a few weeks ago. I don't remember who that was. But we'll let let everybody out there listening recall that I mean, honestly, of course, the chiefs defense is under performed, but you have to remember they still have a lot of guys who can certainly add. And play a lot better than what they've done. I mean, everybody when the chiefs traded Alex Smith and the Redskins essentially through and KENDALL fuller that was a big deal people acted like the chiefs head essentially swindled the Redskins for KENDALL fuller. I mean, he's a guy who hasn't performed super well yet. But you're also a guy who's now only six games into a new scheme and new team that sort of thing he's going to get more and more comfortable as he's out there. You can't forget about a guy like Reggie Ragland and even for those linebackers. They're they're not they're not subpar linebackers. It's just a matter of getting everybody in sync. And also because they're getting out that lead. Like, you mentioned teams are just constantly having to throw the ball on them, which is going to tire defense out more in my opinion than just hard pounding brushing as far as the entire defensive teams. Just running the ball. Most of the time. Obviously the D lineman are going to get more and more tired same with the linebackers. But when you're stretching out those corners, no safeties with constant route running and route protection it can be a real problem for defense. Andy Reid is a coach, obviously as offensive minded I and that's always been what he's focused on. But this guy's always brought in guys as far as coaches and coordinators to to really coach a defense. And excel I mean, if you remember his tenure in Philadelphia, they had some of the betas defenses betas in mess defenses. That the NFL had to offer. And I just I just have a feeling that there's tweaks and.

"Media ad under center NBC or tweet me. If you want to add Malone's, all right? Let's start in the National Football League. The forty Niners have confirmed tornado for quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. He is done for the two thousand eighteen season. He had an MRI this morning team confirming the torn ACL and his left knee. And that loss yesterday against the Kansas City Chiefs. If you didn't see his knee buckled as he scrambled down the left sideline. He was washed out of the park. And I think it was third and goal instead of voluntary just stepping out of bounds. Most quarterbacks in this league. Would do he decided to plant his left leg and cut up field for extra yard maybe took a helmet to helmet hit from chiefs quarterback Steven Nelson. And that was it. They put him on a cart. He is done. The chiefs Justin Houston said this about Garoppolo. I thought this was interesting. He said that was his fall. He said I praised not hurt nothing serious. But as a quarterback you should step out of bounce. It was only one inch. And it wouldn't have helped or made a difference. You've got you've got the need to step out of bounds. You gotta be smart. So now the teams left with CJ Beathard who by the way went and one in four last season as a rookie starter bathroom completed fifty five percent of his passes with four touchdowns and six interceptions. He was sacked nineteen times completed sixty percent of his passes during the preseason. So now the forty Niners without a backup and without. Mckinnon their starting running back as well. So that is not good. And we'll talk a little bit later in the show. Whether or not Kyle Shanahan ought to be looking right now for another quarterback. All right. Why? Well in part because tyrod Taylor has gone from the field to the bench. Imagine take three weeks in the National Football League feasible the Browns. The cardinals today have decided to move forward with their rookie quarterback's under center. All right. Hugh Jackson apparently looked at the tape over the weekend following Thursday tab Mayfield as team started moving forward. Jackson said he would need tyrod Taylor. If healthy to be the backup Mayfield talked about his excitement when given the news. That's what.
