"That would have matched the tyrese Halliburton. Asset. But I agree with you. Oh my God, it would have been the most fun basketball ecosystem that I can remember. And they would have figured it out. Like I'm so glad that you mentioned the idea of them playing higher in ball screens with the modest because I didn't even notice the stuff where they were playing just fool on hedging, but I did notice them playing a lot flatter at the level in terms of demonstration being able to just like, okay, we're going to play you flat at the level. You're going to recover back onto the big. At least corral this guy for a little while, make sure your guard recovers, make sure that you're in the gap. He's just so smart at using his body at the end of the day to be able to play the gap to be able to stop cutting down angles for guards to be able to make those high level passing reads to the roller. He's just I really, really like the modest. It took me a while to like, it took me probably a year and a half after his breakout to really really wrap my head around all of it. And I still think he's probably more of like a top 40 player as opposed to like a top 25 player in the league, but he is so good. He's so, so good. And like people who think he's worse than Deandre ayton, he's definitely better in Deandre ayton. He's just so much more versatile. Yeah, because the thing is, is it's like, I don't think people realize how bad the pacers surrounding shooting was around the time when he got traded. Like they ranked 25th in the NBA. Justin holiday I think was the only player shooting above 36% and like literally they played a game against the Phoenix Suns and you could hear Chris Paul on the broadcast, look at their bench and say back up they can't effing shoot. So there was games where you would be seeing sabonis getting defended by three people. And for him to be putting up those numbers while that was happening. I mean, there would be times where you're running a double drag and like in defense of Malcolm Brogdon and some of his playmaking. When you're running a double drag and like miles guy has one foot in the paint and TJ McConnell's in the corner and there's two people just waiting for sabonis to roll and he's still getting what type of numbers he was getting. And then when he got traded over to Sacramento, they're shooting situation was equally bad. Like they ranked 25th in the NBA over the back end of the season. And Justin wasn't even shooting as well for them. So for them to now upgrade what the shooting situation is that so many different positions going into it. I'm very curious to see what that will do for him and how much easier his life will be once he doesn't have it's really funny. If you watch the pacers play the Toronto Raptors, for instance, there were games up there in Toronto where he would literally have.

"Had to come up through the NBL, went on drafted, ends up here in the NBA. I get one into secure it, like just finishing up, make sure you get your $22 million. Make sure that you are set for life. I think that it's smart. He hadn't made a crazy amount of money in his career at this point. Malik monk to 20 Bruce Brown two 13 Ricky Rubio back to Cleveland for three 18, any of those stand out. I think all three of them are pretty good deals on pretty standard monk in Sacramento was like one of those deals that was done very early so it seemed like they were keyed in on him from the jump. And I'm very curious to see what they imagine his fits going to be in terms of, you know, I think you could play him next to Fox. You can play him next to Mitchell, but that's a very undersized back court. And so I'm so curious and then sabonis at center already leaves you vulnerable on the defensive side of things. So I'm curious how they're going to manage that. And they just traded for herder as well, which I actually like the herder trade. Yeah, we should talk about that. That was an awesome deal. I enjoy hurt her as a player. I don't really think they gave up anything of consequence. I don't know what the protections on the pick were, but I think they weren't like, I don't think it was an unprotected pick. I find it bizarre that Atlanta seemed set on getting off of the herder contract. Because I actually really like his fit with Trae Young and Dijon Murray. The thing with Kevin is that Kevin struggles defensively when he's asked to be like the primary defender of a great player. He's actually pretty good as the secondary defender. I don't really get why Kevin herder is not valuable. I think Kevin's actually really good at basketball. It's also, you know, you mentioned as a secondary defender, but he's also, I think, pretty solid as a secondary play creator too. You can put them on and run ball screens for him. He doesn't have to be just a handoff guy. He doesn't have to be an off the screen shooter. He's got some off the dribble game. And I think I enjoy that for Sacramento. I think that's a good fit with sabonis. I think it's a good fit with Fox. They are certainly continuing to add versatile wings, who can shoot. It's a good trade. I like that a lot more than I enjoy. I think the monk signing is value wise correct. I'm just skeptical about the defensive fit with what their other back court were heard or you could see them. You tell me they start Fox and hurt her in the back court. Love that. That's a solid back court. Yeah, I agree. Like that would be what I would do for sure. I think that's a really, really fun offensive team. You know, obviously now you have Keegan Murray, who's blowing up several league right now as we're talking apparently. Justin holiday, I guess that you can make the case that he's a good three and D guy to play next to the John Murray and Trae Young, good lord, my brain just broke. But I don't know. I think I would have rather kept her..

"Just the idea of what makes for Sean Holmes so good, it doesn't really work next to the bonus who loves that mid post area where rashawn Holmes tends to roll into. And who tends to like end up in the range of like that short roll area and dribble handoffs, right? Like it's just not really going to work, sorry. I got a text message, like right in the middle of that. There are trading not real. Yeah. Literally about the Halliburton trade from like an NBA person. I'm trying to figure out what they're doing. It's 8 in the morning. I'm recording. I'm writing an article. I'm doing my best and processing because it takes me a little bit longer than I'd like it to. So. In terms of long-term planning, you've given up 7 to 8 years of tyrese Halliburton to pick up a player that I think minimizes your ceiling. In demonic sabonis because I don't think he's good enough defensively. He's a great offensive player. But I don't think he's good enough on defense without incredible insulation to where it's really truly gonna work on that end. And Justin holiday is a good defender. He's not a great defender. Harrison Barnes is a good defender. He's not a great defender at this point. Like, they be on Mitchell's a great defender, but if I'm an opposing team, I'm just keeping Davey on Mitchell out of every screening action that I can under. And you mentioned the idea of the avion Mitchell and getting back to the point that I want to make here, I guess maybe to close before I'll give you another point before we move on. But taking Davey on Mitchell in last year's draft seemed bonkers at the time for the kings, given that they already had deer and fox and tox Halliburton. And buddy hill because you look, I'm not saying that I think that they probably have a lot of pressure to make the playoffs in Sacramento. Vivek is a hands on owner and a rookie probably wouldn't have made the difference between them going from 20 and 35 to whatever they would need. 25 and 30 or whatever. But I do think that having Davy on Mitchell on this roster gives you a comfort level to trade. Tyrese Halliburton, that maybe you shouldn't..

"Is very good. Basketball can be very hectic at times, especially this time of year, the trade deadline is coming up this week. There's a lot of moving pieces in the NBA, but you know there's nobody that I'd rather talk about any of this with, you know, there's nobody I'd rather talk about it more than with John sharks, John how you doing buddy? I'm good. I guess we'll just tell the truth. So we actually recorded a pod about tyrese Halliburton and the kings, this Tuesday morning, and then we're feeling good, love on the pod and then right before I was supposed to go out this trade comes down and we're like, well shoot. So now we're back. Yeah, before we launch into that, yeah, we were getting earlier, we talked a little bit about the CJ McCollum trade that took place, Portland sent CJ to the pelicans and we were talking as far as like young player adjacency goes there, Anthony simons may have motivated that. That's something that we talked about earlier. His sort of the way he's come on lately, maybe open the door for them to be more palatable situation a cheaper option for them too. A guy who has a lot of upside, somebody that we want to talk about more in the future, Anthony Simon, somebody that's showing a lot of promise. For sure, for sure. I mean, he's become like, I'm not the franchise player, but clearly they're making a lot of moves in Portland based around him now. Yeah, totally. And like I said, that's somebody that people have reached out to us about, and we're definitely putting a pin in that we're going to hit on them soon. But the Halliburton thing is king. I mean, it's dominated the conversation today. I was outpacing in my yard as I have to because I have a hyperactive dog and I had to go out in the yard and just walk around aimlessly. I checked my phone could not believe it. Could not believe that the kings traded tyrese Halliburton. So before we go into the why, what motivated this? Let's specify who all was in the trade. So the kings are sending tyrese Halliburton, buddy healed, Tristan Thompson, and a 2027 second rounder to the pacers for demons a bonus, Justin holiday, and Jeremy lamb. Lamb was listed twice initially in the initial wage tweet here and there. But what do you think motivated this I mean, it seems like the consensus among people is like hands in the air, why the hell with the kings do this? Because on the surface, Halliburton has really seemed to have won over the basketball public with over Fox. I don't know if it was clear in the beginning, but he's clearly cemented himself as an asset that everybody thought they were going to keep. Why would they do this? What type of a decision do you think this was? Well, there's a lot of factors that go into it. I'm also glad you actually gave the trade and you caught yourself because I was definitely gonna call you out on that for just launching into the Halliburton. I believe you. Without any presence. Where do you want to start with Sacramento? As I think they were in a position, to me, it all goes back to drafting tyrese Halliburton and Davy on Mitchell. When you already had deer and fox and consecutive drafts. So that leafs in this position where you have three young point guards who are all kind of eating into each other's minutes, eating into each other's touches, eating into each other's responsibility and role on the team. And it just felt, even from the start of the season, the Aaron Fox has like himself at all all season. And I just felt like there was too many cooks in the kitchen. They kind of had to make a trade. And I think the GM macman mcnair, he said after they drafted Mitchell, he said, oh, we just drafted best player available, but the logic of that breaks down pretty fast when, okay, yeah, we can make a trade later, but now everybody knows you want to make a trade, right? So you only have no leverage at that point. And then on top of that, all your assets are making each other worse because I think Mitchell has done a very good this year. Primarily because he's stuck on a very small role. Fox has really struggled sharing the balls that are two guys. And Halliburton has been the best player, which we can get into in a second, but Halliburton is by far of those three guards, the one who's most easily, he can fit into almost any situation. So he's thriving in the chaos of Sacramento while these other two guards are struggling. And I think the question is less, why did the kings trade Halliburton as much as if I'm the pacers, I would want Halliburton back in a trade, right? It's a two way street. I think Indiana said, okay, maybe I don't know. I can't say exactly how the trade negotiations went down. It would not shock me though if Indiana said, we don't want deer and fox on his massive contract underperforming this season, with much of that the younger point guard and Halliburton. So if you want a bonus, this is the trade you have to make. That's my initial suspicion at least. The thing that this all hinges on to me is that Fox assets that we had heard in the conversations about what Fox could bring back potentially to supplement Halliburton didn't seem as strong as what if they pivoted and wanted to say, okay, well, since Halliburton is more valuable. And the kings are lucky because Halliburton saved their ass twice now, even though they decided not to keep thank God that he wanted to push his way to the kings. I have no idea. I don't know about the genesis of that story. Why? Because I'd heard that he did say he singled out the kings and wanted to go to them. But now they're in this situation where this past rebuild didn't really work ostensibly. And you're seeing a situation where they pivoted and said, okay, we could keep Halliburton and see what Fox can get us. There's appetite for that seemed a lot lower. I have time for Halliburton around the league. I think people see a guy who's like insanely versed or we'll talk more about that if you're a pacers fan. I don't know if you're a pace of fan if you would have been listening to a show like ours. Good to have you if you're with us. But we'll talk more about what he is like as a player. You know, they've pivoted. And I think that it was just going to kind of prevent them from being in the desert, like the total desert for a little longer. But if I'm looking at this team on the king's side of it, I know these guys aren't, this isn't like the youngest player part of the conversation. But the kings now have swapped a guy who was a great playmaker, a guy who is malleable, contextually could play with a lot of different situations. Like you said, for a guy like sabonis, who is a really high value player, like he's one of the best screen setters, one of the best, like elbow creators in the game right now. Do you think there's a potential where he could balance? He's not going to cannibalize Fox as touches as much. He's somebody that could fit with him, like he's one of the better like dribble handoff, players in the world. To me, this doesn't really change the it doesn't loft them into like a serious competitive team. What do you think it does for the kings in the short term? Does it really change the situation for them? What do you think? Just quickly here..

"Hey, this is an emergency podcast and this should be because of a massive trade between the pacers and the kings, the fold details are this. The bonta sabonis is going to Sacramento with Jeremy lamb Justin holiday in a 2027 second round pick for tyrese Halliburton, buddy healed and Tristan Thompson. This is a big deal for both of these franchises considering how long the bonus has been involved in trade talks, considering how long, but he healed his wanted out of Sacramento. And to talk about it, I brought on sear it so he and then Logan Murdock from the ringer to talk about it and we recorded this live on green room, so before it got on and after her and Logan got off, I had to question from the chat, brought people on stage. We had a Q&A, talked about a whole bunch of stuff. And I want a 100% be doing more green rooms, either Tuesday night, Wednesday, Thursday morning, who knows. I'm gonna be doing more of them before the NBA trade in line at 3 p.m. eastern on Thursday. So stay tuned to my Twitter feed for that or download the Spotify green room map and that will notify you any time I go live. And some of those will be posted on the mismatch or the ringer NBA show feed. But you know, not all of them will be. So stay tuned for those, and otherwise, enjoy this conversation. I imagine this has been very much discussed, but I'm very stuck on the Thai Halliburton of it all. What has you stuck? How do you trade him? How do you trade him? This deal, I don't know, I'm excited to go through the nuances of it, I guess, but right now in the face of it, I'm looking at it and I'm like, wow, the king's traded Thai Halliburton buddy healed so they could maybe try to make a run for the 7 seed, you know? So one of the things that I asked nakai is I'm like, I don't necessarily believe this, but playing devil's advocate with myself and everybody here listening. With the kings there, we view tyrese Halliburton as 21 years old and the second year of his entire NBA career is just the beginning. And he's already so good. Fox is out last month and he's averaging 21 points and 12 assists, and he looks great. And it's just this fun player who brings life to the floor and energy. He's just a joy to watch. But right now, sabonis is better. Sabonis is the best player in the deal undeniably. Undeniably he's the best player in the deal today is a two time all star. If you're the kings, I wonder if privately they think, yeah, Halliburton is a really nice young player, but he's not going to be a top 25 guys. He's not going to be an annual all star candidate. Why not? They feel that way. Why not is my question, but is there any logic to that if Sacramento does feel that way at all? Is there any logic to that? If they feel he's going to cap out as like a nice player, a winning player, but not an all star player, and that they might say, what's everybody talking about? We got the best player in the deal. I mean, they could definitely think that, right? You know who it's the kings, right? Definitely think that. But the way that I look at it, and I kind of look at everything's player this way, or every young king's player this way is that ty Halliburton looks this good on the kings, you know? Rookies aren't really even supposed to look that good on teams that are that dysfunctional honestly. A lot of the times, you know, we know how important player development and all those things are. So I think this is a win for him, right? I feel like this is a win for Rick Carlisle. He'll get to coach ty Halliburton, who's also, by the way, just seems on all accounts. Somebody who has the right habits as well, who came into this team with ray habits and was perpetually from what I've seen so far. Early in his career, his consistently made incremental improvements improved on last year's numbers. And he's a really great playmaker. He's really intuitive player. He presents things to you that I just don't think you can get from your average young prospect. You know, just the potential that he has because of the way that he reads the game. He's already ten times smarter than a lot of it, veteran NBA players. So I don't know. I don't think that there's really way too early to put a cap on who he can be. And on the other end of it, I agree, right? I agree. But it's just like trading. They traded, I guess, the future for the present, but it just, it just doesn't really make that much sense. Yeah, I mean, I think you nailed it when you said Halliburton's made these incremental improvements as a player. And the big knock on him coming into the NBA out of Iowa state as well. He has all these great intangible qualities, but can he create his own shot off the dribble? And he's become a guy where I remember that game against the sixers about a week or so ago. And he hits these two crazy sidestep dribble jumper three pointers with a defender right over him and the fourth quarter. And he does that consistently. He's got the floater for mid range. He looks so smooth, pulling up, just a traditional pull up from two. Like I said, you get the floater. He just can't, at this moment, he's not a guy who really penetrates into the paint and draws files or really even finishes at a high level around the basket. But his handle is so much tighter. He uses hesitations. He can pull up from anywhere from different angles, different areas of the court. He just, I think Halliburton, in my own personal evaluation, he went from a guy that you feel a high level of confidence that will at least be a good role player or a very good player who impacts winning in a starting lineup. He went from that to at least for me, I felt like a guy that could potentially be one of your two or three best players. The best player on your team? No, I don't think so. I don't think the bonus is or can be that either. But Halliburton can be one of your best guys. And that's why it's just my overall thought here is just to just sabonis is good, but nikaya said it earlier. If you're a trading tyrese Halliburton, it feels like you get to be getting back a top ten to 15 guy. Like you're trading up to that level with a team that's rebuilding. And they want to blow it up and Halliburton's the young player they want back. And Indiana isn't necessarily in that situation. They're more in a retooling phase. They're changing assets. They're not rebuilding here. So I don't know, man. I just don't feel good about it. I don't feel good. I think you nailed it there about how it was, you know, sometimes you do trade the present for the future, right? It was just what they got back. And that's no disrespect to sabonis. He is like you said, he's the best player in this deal, and he's also for Fox. Gonna be a really fun pick and roll partner too. Like there's an encore thing about this. That's actually, it feels a little bit irrelevant right now, honestly. But it could also be pretty fun. We can we can get that later, but I think you nailed it just, you gotta get more back..

"This trade. So, the mata sabonis goes to Sacramento, along with Jeremy lamb. Justin holiday. Indiana gets buddy hill. Tristan Thompson's expiring. In tyrese Halliburton, who I thought was off the table. I love sabonis. I was hoping the Celtics are trade firm. I said I was even a rationally hoping they would give up smart and time lord for him, which I know is a dumb trade, but that's how much I like the bonus. At the same time, you can't trade Halliburton. What do you do in Sacramento? Honestly, what are you doing? He's 21. There's like 8 point guards in the league that know how to run a team that check off the advanced metric boxes. I mean, there is some great stuff today. All the advanced metrics NBA people that I follow on Twitter and respect, that one nuts. Like Kurt goldsberry, my former grantland colleague, he had a bunch of tweets about halbert and somehow 11th and assist and 12th instills 12 games without foxy average 19 and ten. Catch and shoot threes, which he really had to do the last couple of years because he had to put fox or the last year and a half, 42.6% on catch and shoot threes according to Kirk. And then on off the dribble threes, second, 40.6. So he's checking all these efficiency stuff like his advance his you feel go percentage was 58.7. I don't really fully understand that one, but I know that's good for a guard. But then John schumann from MBA dot com. He had about best pull up threes. Halbert and second behind Mike Conley percentage. And then when you talk about assist turnover ratio, which is another thing we love with point guards, he started behind Chris Paul and Marianne spurs. So look, I'm just giving you the stats. I test love them in college. Could not believe he fell thought there was a chance that he could follow the southeast of course he didn't. The sun's famously passed him at ten took jaylen Smith and now didn't even give jaylen spent that it even renewed his third year option. So you think the sons are the best player in the best team in the league. And they also could have had Halliburton really easily, and he would have been the absolute unbelievable perfect third guard for a Booker Chris Paul back on holy shit. That's a what if India had steals them. And as much as I like sabonis, I just can't get over the fact that the kings gave up halberd. I can't believe it. The kings. So we used to make fun of them at grail land, which greatly existed from 2011 and 2015. And at that point, the kings were entering their second half decade of just being morons. And finally, grail and ends we start the ringer. The kings still being morons and just you think like for 12 years from like 6 to 2018 there was a dumbest team in the league. And then they take Bagley over Luca, which we were doing a live draft show when that happened. We were all having a stroke. They gave away bogdanovic for reasons that remain unquote. They just didn't want to plan. They drafted three point guards in the span of four years. Gave an extension to the wrong run, dearen Fox, who I still feel like is relatively untreatable at that contract, unless you're taking somebody else's problem like Julius Randle. And then out of the three point cards, they trade the wrong one. So, you know, you think, would have been the king's highlights for the last, I don't know, decade, I guess it would be the fact that they sold high on boogie cousins, even though that's in terrible at the time. And picking Halliburton. That fucking that up, just taking the right guy when he fell to. I think number 12, and then they trade him anyway. I'm just telling you, I rarely go all in with predictions. And you kind of know, I'll be like, I think this is a mistake, whatever. Here's my take. And rarely, especially with NBA, I just go all in. I think Halliburton is an absolute star. I think he's a future all MBA guy. I think he could be the second best guy on a championship team, potentially. I don't think he can be the first best guy, but I think he can be the second best guy. I think he could.

"There were definitely things that OKC was very clean. His time there, but there were definitely things that popped up throughout his Lakers tenure at times and some stuff has come up in Boston as well. Now, so yeah, it's a risk for sure if you're Bronson. You have to really feel good if you're going to pass up that money. But I think I would because I think that number is still there this summer from the Mavs. If nothing else. Yeah, it's a good point. Good point there. Let's move on. Let's go Justin holiday. It's unvaccinated. He's been a guy who's been in a lot of trade rumors, just the fact that he's unvaccinated. That eliminates or okay, not technically eliminates, but could restrict some landing shots, right? I mean, we think about the Brooklyn Nets. That would mean he couldn't play home games. Things of that nature. But I do think that this is going to be a factor in terms of his trade value and could be enough to scare some teams off of trading for Justin holiday. Yeah, I think so. I mean, the asking prices and unreasonable, it sounds like the pacers are looking for two second round picks. That's perfectly fair for what he can bring a team. For the vast majority teams, he'd probably be. Guys get decent size has always been a lease holds his own defensively. He's not necessarily a great defender or anything. So that part would be good. But yeah, I mean, you take kind of the nets, the warriors, and want to say the Lakers and the clippers, if I remember correctly as well due to their local mandates, guidelines call them what you will. So yeah, I mean, now Marty those teams in Syria, I guess maybe the Lakers, right? Because he actually does fit into their trade tradable choir able salary window. There, but yeah, I think it's just a data point you have to talk if you're a team of where we're at. And he has made it very clear he will not be getting vaccinated a couple different times when he's talked about it just doesn't think it's the right decision. For him and his family, so that part kind of seems to be it is what it is. So yeah, everything else. So that becomes a question for the teams to decide. All right, the pelicans sign when Gabriel, so that's a little bit more depth there for them. Obviously not at major murky signing or something like that. But certainly something to note, a guy who's got bad athleticism long can defend a bit at the rim and things of that nature. So worth a shot. And that was one of those hardship ten days. They've got a couple guys in the health and safety protocols. A couple people have asked us because it is kind of weird the way this works is, if a player goes is already injured, then goes into the health and safety protocols while injured that happened with I believe it was Michael Porter junior at the Jamal Murray, was in the same boat. There's been a couple others as well. The team is then eligible for one of these hardship ten days..

"Those are interesting targets. I don't know if you're setting the ceiling high enough in terms of skill set. Those are absolutely guys that can help the Lakers. But are those move the needle pieces? So when he says a pick, that's where the little, you know, the red flag goes off for me. If you're going to trade your 2027 first, let's assume it's unprotected. Maybe you can protect the pick, but you're going to trade that first. And that's the first, that's the earliest available first round pick that you've got that you can move. 5 years down the road. Who knows what the Lakers are going to look like 5 years from now? This can be really dangerous to move a pick like that. So if you're going to do that, you got to be sure that you're getting pieces that are going to really pick you up a notch. And in terms of skill set, I like Justin holiday and a like Tory Craig. I think they're guys that could certainly help the Lakers. But if you're gonna give up that pick, plus your future potential guy that as we talked about earlier, you probably believe still has plenty of upside because you believe if you're the Lakers that this shooting is going to come around, I don't know if you do that. I don't know if this ceiling is high enough with those guys, even if the skill set is a great fit. I don't know if that's if that's worth it. I certainly wouldn't be over the moon if they did that trade because I think in the short term it helps you. But in the long term, the Lakers could come back to regret that. Oh, here's a hypothetical. Tombstone Doc, tombstone Doc and he's got a little avatar of Doc holiday, you know, the famous shootout or infamous shootout at the okay corral. Well, that he said, if you had to choose option one, fire Vogel and keep the roster as is option two trade Westbrook for anything.

"As far as the whole that easy warm would leave. I don't think the pacers really need to do too much already. Did a lot of that work thankfully deep at the wing i would imagine the starting small full reposition right now. It's up for grabs between justin holiday tori crag and it may be in chris duarte and they still have jeremy lamb and keelan martin. Both of them could place in three. So they're pretty. Well prepared right now. I still don't know when warrants oppose a comeback may be. it's maybe only misses the beginning of the year while will see. I've i wanna touch on here. The since potential thought about the pacers a lot and i see a lot of people may put like brogden type package i was. I've always felt like maybe they would probably want to one of their centers. Probably not the philadelphia but like to third team. And then you know like it'd be interesting whether simmons would match with a bonus with turner. I think he could make pretty good front quarter with either of them. Time will tell on that but we'll get into our next question which comes from david Who asks is. There was any update regarding eric. Gordon trade You know ever. Gordon has always been a productive player when he's healthy but that's also been one of the biggest knocks of him as a player. i expected to circle the wagon on gordon. If he can show he's healthy. In for the rockets to continue to dangle him trade bait as they did during the nba draft. Gordon at thirty two. He doesn't fit the young core team and he'd be better suited on a playoff team so similar to how a houston in john waller working towards a resolution via a trade or some form of a new destination I would expect the same thing for our recording. Given where houston is in there rebuild. As gordon down the second year of an extension he signed about two years ago or i think it was last year in you know. I don't think. I think it's a pretty reasonable deal. He's only owed about Like eighteen million this year in the nineteen million the next year. So i think it's pretty reasonable if contending team loss of trade for him especially if you think if you think you're going to be good these next two years than might as well make an offer for him. I wrote about recently. How there's kind of a conundrum for contending teens interested in trading area gordon mainly because the third year is twenty two twenty three twenty. Three twenty four season is non-guaranteed but it becomes guaranteed if teams on with the championship for about twenty something million. So i don't know. I i'm i've been thinking maybe that could be a reason. Some teams could be holding back on trading from because he would raise a lot of teams ceiling. So probably not. i'm sure Maybe make it a little too much We'll see. I think the i think if you're a contender in you'd think gordon in can help raise your ceiling go for By thought he would have been traded by now. I don't think it's such a. I don't think it's like i think a lot of people frown on that. I don't think it's that bad. Yeah just think for gordon. He just gotta show that he's healthy and he's still productive player. I know he's going to be thirty three coming up. But i still got some gas in the tank But you know we'll see what happens if they can get a package that they like form you know. I'm not sure houston's gonna wanna give up a pick to move off him but they might have to give him his contract so time will tell but our next question comes from miles. Oh cnor who asked. Can you see the celtics targeting. A guy like kyle anderson or thaddeus young with the evan fore knee a traded player exception. Both daddy is young in kyle. Anderson in the final years of their contracts young will have plenty of trade suitors around the league. Who were playoff teams. I'm not sure what ambitions market would be. If he became available. I think a wing defender. Like dillon brooks for example might have more value to teams if memphis decides to shake up the roster even more than it has this summer if i had to pick either guy. Boston goes after. I think it will be young in that scenario. Because he's more of a veteran who fit better next to jason tatum in the front court. Yeah i could see the celtics acquiring while one. If that he found recall anderson with tv they used their previous one to choir and forty josh. Richardson known very solid. Lohan starters at their best so that thaddeus young aunt calendar snide thing. They kind of fit that bill. I'm just not sure if the celtics would want to use their. Tv's differ this season though maybe like a couple But maybe not maybe they could save the foreign anyone for next off season the already pretty deep not too deep but during the luxury tax. In if you're gonna take in one of these guys without sending anything back they're gonna really belgian really start to add up so i like both players a lot. They would certainly a helped win. Some more games for the celtics is how worth it is for them to pay so much more for promo- players already add a lot. Our next question comes from at grizzlies legends. So i know folks gotta think too hard on this one. This is probably going to be a grizzlies questioned. So acura legend asks are the grizzlies shopping dillon brooks or looking for another big piece. I wouldn't say memphis. Shopping dillon brooks. He's a good defender. Who is become a consistent score at sixteen seventeen points a game over the past two seasons Keep this one onto your hat. Folks but dillon brooks is only old twelve point. Two million this season and his contract declines to eleven point four million next season. That's pretty good value. And he has a good relationship with franchise cornerstone. John mirant too. So i'd say teams have interest in brooks and he could be a part of a bigger trade package if memphis tries to land the star. But he's not being shopped. I wouldn't classify it as that. Yeah i agree. I wouldn't trade brooks right now unless you're consolidating for for like you know. Starting garter like really good all-star guard or something like that. But in general i would if i'm memphis i wouldn't trade dillon brooks right now unless i get some ridiculous offer for him like i don't know some over pay. Multiple trump takes for him. He really elevated himself to a borderline first option on offense in the playoffs against utah. You just the pest on defense and as you mentioned is an extremely team friendly contract. I highly doubt met is wants to move on from him right now. Speaking of people that a- team may or may not trying to move on from our next question comes from at odiaun twenty six for second. I thought it was a greg. Oden burner account twitter handle but at odeon twenty six asks will the nets trader wave. Somebody next all as we touched on previously on the hoop side podcast the nets final roster spot will likely come down to the android bambi or sekou. Doom mboya member goes. He'll be waived if sekou goes the likely trying to trade him away for future draft pick. I think you've got the completely right. They cut someone's memory if they wanna get off coup. There should be plenty of teams interested in him on. Next question comes from at trick season. Nice handle will robert covington re-sign with portland to me. If damian lillard stays in portland. I think there will be more of an urgency to resign covington if the team can agree to it..

"I love the scoring power on this team. But i think defensively. It's where it's gotta start the indiana pacers. Yeah the two big pairing is also tough on defense mazdas rim-protector and is bonus prolly at the guard. Some smaller players in the perimeter. Not going to go. Great for him right But in terms of indiana just as a franchise they've been very stable to me in you mention the word stability as well. They've been a solid like four through seventeen in the east For feels like a decade. And you know to be. You have the down year last year. Kind of curious. Yeah they went thirteen and twenty three at home And twenty one fifteen on the road. I mean you. You really don't see that. I probably not much to take away from that. But you know if they can get better at home obviously and keep it on the road. the get much better quickly but to me. I see this over five hundred team a lot of on this team. Five guys who like could make an all star team in their in their starting lineup between vert brogden. Tj warren's the guy who prior to his foot injury was looking like a completely new player Totally rejuvenated indiana bonus miles turner so if rick carlisle and get the most out of the steam off. You know you do lose. Doug mcdermott off your bench yet. You bring back. Justin holiday yup. Tj mcconnell comes back we really key in the regular season Kinda man that second unit handles the point guard duty. So i like what this team has and to me at forty two and a half. This might be one of my favorite place on the board very similar to how much i like the utah jazz last year kind. That's super solid. Team has one down year. And then you know to come back the next year and get find their level again. I'm very high on this indiana team going into next year and also think they could be a candidate maybe slide in and enter into a ben simmons trade or something like that they they do have a lot of cooks in the kitchen. The offensively and they could be seen as a candidate for consolidation trade Put more of that show created one person's hand. I think cares sliver. Whatever market you wanna get down on him a him on. I think he can have a really big season. media comeback player of the year type off his cancer diagnosis or even even a complete. Mvp long shot. I mean this is a guy. I think it'd be really dynamic with the ball in his hands And i i think in the end really good so definitely love this over. Forty two and a half. I think you hit the nail on the head about. This team has to be better on on their home floor. And i think up and down this whole division of sect for the milwaukee bucks milwaukee bucks were the only team this division that had a winning record on their home floor now. Is that the case of because we didn't have fans early on in the season and they were missing the fans at a possibility for kind of going back all the way to the twenty six. Twenty seven season. Indiana pacers twenty nine and twelve at home In that season going forward twenty seven fourteen twenty nine and twelve and then Twenty five and eleven..

"It's a little bit. It's a little late in this kind of transaction period. And I'm not sure what teams are going to be interested at this stage. A lot of guys that, you know, a lot of guys are locked up at this point because they can't be traded until December 15th. So that's going to limit your options. But the report also suggested that, look, Jeremy lamb he had a lot of injury issues last season. So a lot of teams are saying, well, we're interested, but we want to wait and see if he's healthy for. So maybe this is a guy just to keep an eye on and we'll see him moved midseason. Yeah, he got back about Blake January. He came back, so when he came back from that injury, with the pacers after in 2020, he tore his ACL. So about a year later, which that's roughly the going time frame for an ACL injury. And yeah, he was a little rough last year. So we'll see where he looks better this year. My guess is this is when we talk about this a lot. Who does this benefit to put this out there? And I think this is one that benefits both the pacers and Jeremy lamb because it starts saying like, hey, there's teams who want them. I think the article which was by J Michael of the Indy star who has proven to be pretty well connected to the pacers and their players. He said the Lakers had reached out, makes sense, right? Now was that the Lakers reached out and the end of July when they had built their bench. Yeah, or was that recent? Because it also he makes $10.5 million. How do the leakers get there? That's a little odd. But he also mentioned Charlotte hornets where lamb had played previous. They could actually maybe use another wing. Score, they don't have a lot of guys in that role where the pacers do. I mean, you mentioned levert and Chris duarte, but they signed toward Craig. They still have Justin holiday on that team. TJ Warren still plays quite a bit at the three for them. So that's a team that's they've got an awful lot of guys who play that same position. So that says to me, I bet lamb gets run early in the year as a duarte is transitioning into the NBA and lamb is showcased for a move down the line. That's my guess is how that one plays out. So he's going to be kind of the training wheels or whatever for Chris duarte to come in and he missed him. You missed it. You could have done with he's gonna be the sacrificial lamb for Christopher today. Oh man. I've got Keith. I have too much football on my brain. I was trying to get to Andy Dalton and Justin Fields somehow. I was trying to make that connection and then oh man. I went for the easy one man. I'm too tired after putting puppy duty and being up all night with this guy every few hours to make long ones. I went for the simple one. That one was definitely better. And it was sitting right in front of me like I said, I have too much fantasy football on the brain. I love it..

"Is i think these are the guys who Unless they are quality at the point of attack so this point attack comes in 'cause like you if if you're going to be a really good off ball wing defender. You have to be good at the point of a taxi or at least good enough at the point of attack that you're not gonna playoff four. 'cause i think we've seen guys were good off ball offenders or of chasing shooters but if they can't defend the point of attack then they're going to struggle to stay on the floor. Do you think doug mcdermott the best example of that year. I don't. I don't know if i would say he's the best example because again i wouldn't say that he's like a top tier chaser over screens. Bill like He's the example of. I'm interested to see what happens if the patients make the playoffs this year. How he looks because he has struggled in the playoffs. He got haunted a lot against the heat last year and in boston the year before You bring up like a guy like teaching. Mcconnell who a chaser is more of like being nail defender at the top But he's a guy who when it becomes more about trying to force switches like how does he hold up in the playoffs. I mean he's incredibly small. It's very difficult to actually make that work in terms of talking about guys who i think are among the best like justin holiday i think is one of the better lock in trail vendors in the league incredibly long incredibly active he can hold up to the point of attack He gets asked the less this year a lot. More last year he was asked to play the four Which is i mean. He's six six like a hundred and eighty five pounds So he got tasked with doing a lot but in terms of being just an awesome off ball defender key. Be right up there near the top for me and somebody who actually wanted to pick your brain. Because i know you've watched decent hawks. What do you think tony snell. 'cause i've watched a lot of the hawks lately in like i know he's not like not a sexy name. Tony snell is a much better defender than i think. People will give him credit for just. Because i know as offense is pretty not. It's underwhelming he has like the offensive capabilities before in twos body like he's not awesome at the point of attack but i think he can hold up. I use the guy who wished like his frame would fill out more because he's probably five to ten somewhere in there so he can get taxed on wall. Pretty pretty handily by a by bigger guys. Blake. you can put him on on like guard in having fight over screens in like i was watching. He gave victory deep a lot of problems In some of the games that that the hawks played because the rockets didn't have great screen. And if you can't screen. Tony saw the play. He's really good at coming in for review tasks and getting back into position. And that's an important part of defense like if you can take away. Some of the poll of jumpers and again victory depots naga. You necessarily want taking pole of jumpers this year But it's just it's. It's another thing that i find really interesting. I i just one of the guys i was thinking about..

Pacers lose to New Orleans tonight. 1 14 1 13. And that's a tough one tough when Chris Yeah, they had chances made a great comeback and the at the end just came up short. Yeah, they did, And it was the bench unit with one starter Justin Holiday that play the entire fourth quarter. The Pacers were down 18 late third quarter made a run at the end of the third. And maybe organs. You know how many times do you see this in the NBA? Not a lot. Never asked E. Where you see where you see a coach will just stay with the same players and he just stayed with the guys that brought him back. They took a lead at 1 to 1 on one on the Doug McDermott. Three. They had a 1051 of four lead, but I'll tell you, the guy that hurt the Pacers all night. Not just dyin Williamson and Brandon Ingram, but Lonzo Ball. Wonder Ball not known as a three point shooter. He made five of them tonight. And had had big answers late, but, uh, it was, it was a heck of a comeback. It's been an interesting week. Bob because you start out on Sunday, you have a 20 point lead on the best team of the East and you fritter that away and lose to Philadelphia. You come back and blow out. A Memphis team that had won seven straight was the hottest team in the league. You go to Milwaukee against a very good team and get blown out. You're down by 40. And then tonight you're down 18 you come all the way back. Take the lead, but you fall short, so And what do you get for all of that? On Sunday, the best team in the NBA is in town, the Utah Jazz who are 18 and five, but you know it's been. It's been an interesting year. They're 12 and 11. They're still fit in the East. They're doing it without two starters. T. J Warren is out caress liver. It will be a starter when he's healthy, right. So with the first year coach just trying toe You know, sort of put the pieces together. Yeah, they've got to play a little bit better. There's no question about that. They've faltered a little bit here, but it's a long season and you know, hopefully what you learned tonight. You can count on some bench guys in critical situations, and even though they didn't get the job done, I think it will help them in the future. Well, I mean, you're you point out this is a team. Clearly as the RA League is right now use a team capable of beating anybody. They play like everyone else. They're looking for consistency with the in the game within a quarter within a stretch. You know how this is, but that's what makes it so much fun for a guy like you. You mean you're gonna watch something interesting every night? Mean, tonight was an amazing game. It was a fantastic game. There were a couple of 1000 people in the building. You're staying. You're seeing Maura. Um Or I think they want to. They want to crawl, then walk, then run. I think I think the health department has said you could have about 4000 in the building they've done is they started out it about 1000. They're ramping up to about 2000 and then probably somewhere near the end of this month. Early part will get the 4000 and that makes all the difference in the world and creating an environment. You know you're seeing it in high school basketball with some of the limited fans that could be there. The families and friends and some of the students. You're right. I was listening to you, Um, last summer, did we think we'd be in this situation? We weren't even sure what we would be able to write, whether it be high school sports approach towards the fact that we're still able to do. This is a very good thing. It's an amazing thing to be honest, and I mean, but you're right. There's a whole lot of basketball to be played. And it's a fun team to watch. They play hard. They share the ball each night. Someone seems to be stepping up and giving you a big lift. It seems to be one of the hallmarks of this team to this point. TJ McConnell came off the bench. He had 13 assists tonight. Yeah, it's a fun team and and like I said, there's a long way to go. There's 49 games left there right in the middle of the Eastern Conference, So I think I think they feel good with where they are. They'd like to be a little bit better. But, hey, we'll see what happens is we go on. Kristin Eri is the television voice of the Indiana Pacers. Pacers Lose tonight to New Orleans 1 14 1 13, Utah. "Some of those games against the miami heat and it's almost jarring to see lebron play in that way because it's not a five outspread pick and roll abroad that we see. It's more of a working from the top of the free. Throw line surveying the court running around some screens. Sort of lebron. So i think this is just the perfect time for roy. Hibbert to to hit his all star peak. Yeah definitely and i think one thing i would say to Like his footwork was incredible like he was not. Of course i mean seven two two eight. He was not a laterally. Quick guy whatsoever. He was not fast He was strong but he his base was so high. That guys could get into a little bit. But it didn't matter we'll of his length but I was watching a couple breakdowns of the pacers defense from six or seven years ago And i they were slowdowns. You could watch his footwork. His foot work in the in getting into his defensive stance in deterring drivers was really really good. And that's something that i think is a little bit underrated in las loss. Especially when you talk about big. Because if that's what makes the difference especially to for looking at perimeter defenders there are so many guys you could pull off like right now Cash stanley pacers rookies. Second round pick. He's probably like maybe justin holiday will be quarterlane him laterally. But i would say. He's probably the quickest guy on the team laterally but he crosses his feet all the time when he slides so his slide is not even really a slide That's what makes some of these guys who ended up being raped perimeter defenders defenders in general. Really good because if you don't have that ability to actually keep up with somebody if you can improve your footwork well enough you can kinda counteract a lot of that in terms of you know a eventually speed wins out but if you have enough athleticism coupled with that ability to have your footwork down and figure that out than your goal. That's a great point in another modern comparison of a player. That has terrible footwork. But should have the athleticism be a great defender. Zion and we talked about in the sense of scale ability. Podcast i wrote about it in my zion's needs to improve article but his footwork is just his ankles or flying over places hopping to close out on players. And it's it's interesting. How something that seems so basic just chopping your feet or knowing where to put your feet is so important to being a fantastic defender. Yeah yeah no. I totally agree So where do we go next with this one. I think okay. Let's i said we weren't gonna go in chronological order. But i ve kind of been going backwards. I think the grizz happened right.
