I am Matt Verderam alongside Gilberto Manzano as always here in the midweek edition of the show. We've got a lot to get to because last week might have given us the best slate of games we're gonna have all week long. We had four games that everybody thought were gonna be great and as it turned out, three of them were pretty good. One of which was a blowout. We'll get to all them here in a minute then of course we have our week 10 lines of five games that we're gonna focus on from our SI Sportsbook odds and then from there we also have the midseason awards that we have to get to as we are halfway home in the 2023 NFL season. Before we get to all that, let's welcome the other man of the tandem, Gil, what's going on man? How you been? Yeah, I'm doing well. Matt, as you know, I like to brag about my wins and complain about my losses and last week was a good week. I went 12 -2 with the picks but I am pretty disappointed that I betted against Joshua Dobbs. What a game, right? Unbelievable. I'm annoyed. You went 12 -2, I went 11 -3 and I feel like 11 -3 should have given me some bragging rights for the week and yet it did not happen. So I will say on the whole, our group, yourself, myself, Connor, Orr, Albert Breer, Mitch and John our editors and Claire, another editor of ours as well that does great work, I feel like everybody's picks have been really pretty good this year. There are some years you look at picks and go, oh my god, I'm barely above 500. Right now, I've got the sheep pulled up in front of me, so the best record is Albert who's 95 -41, went 11 -3 last week and then after that, Claire Kawana is right behind him with 92 wins and then in gold it says 87 wins and then it's myself, yourself, John and then Connor Orr at 75 and 65 pulling up the rear, so Connor's got to step up. Connor is bringing down the credibility of this entire group. That's not bad for last play, so 10 games over 500? His thing is, we all do our upset picks and he's done 50 upset picks. I think I've done like 16. So that's part of the reason, but yeah, the picks are good and of course people that want to can read those over at SI .com, we put them out every week. The editors are nice enough to put that together. All right, so last week, like I said, we had some great games. We had Chiefs Dolphins over in Germany and then we had Ravens, Seahawks, which we thought would be a great game, turned out to be a massacre, Late Window, Cowboys, Eagles, which was one of the wildest games I can remember seeing in quite some time and then of course we had Bills, Bengals at the end, the Sunday night game there and so like I said, we'll get to all those. Let's just start with how the day actually started. Over in Frankfort, Chiefs build up a 21 -0 lead on Miami. Miami comes back, makes it 21 -14. They had a couple drives at the end where they could have tied the game, even taken the lead if they went for two. They got into Kansas City territory both times, but both times ended up going backwards, lose the game. They dropped to 6 -3. Chiefs, of course, improved to 7 -2. Both teams go on their bye weeks. I'll So, let you set the stage here, Gilberto. What is it to you, is it more about the Dolphins that game or is it more about the Chiefs? It is more about the Dolphins because they can't beat a team with a winning record and don't tell me the Chargers are .500 and the Dolphins beat them. They barely got to .500, so I am concerned about the Dolphins, but I don't want to let the Chiefs off the hook, Matt, and I know you've been writing about this, but the Dolphins have been pretty average. It got to a point where now Mahomes is saying, yeah, we sting. We're pretty bad. Go talk about the defense. That defense is carrying us the entire season. You know what's kind of funny, Matt? This season, it feels like the team with the best defense might win the Super Bowl, and the Chiefs still have the best defense right now, it feels like, so it's kind of a weird irony, but you expect better from Mahomes and Kelsey, but the wide receivers, they can't create separation. And it wasn't for that awesome fumble, reverse play, whatever it was from Cook there. They would have probably lost a game there, but what's going on with the Dolphins offense? Averaging 17 points against the Bills, Eagles, and the Chiefs, so I go with the Dolphins there because I feel like the Chiefs could figure it out. It's halfway point in the season, they're just cruising by, and I think something will finally break out there, but I'll let you maybe talk about the Chiefs a little more. But the Dolphins, man, you're supposed to be the most explosive offense, highest scoring, and you can't even get a first down. It's like, do they have too many home run hitters? Too many touchdown makers? How about some chain movers? How about some first down people? How about some quick outs, and just get four or five yards, and everything just feels like a home run, and they don't adjust, and they don't kind of make end game adjustments because credit to the Chiefs, and Tyreek Hill said it too, they covered, there was great coverage on Tyreek Hill, so it's kind of one of those games where like, why not get a tight end that can help you out here? Why not get some guys that can make it easier? How about go to Raheem Oster a little more? He had like 12 carries, and he's averaging 7 .1 yards per carry, so I don't know what's going on with Mike McDaniel on two, and two was pretty bad in that second half there. Yeah, he had the touchdown to Cedric Wilson, but make some adjustments, Mike McDaniel, and stop going for the home run ball, Tua. Yeah, look, first of all, I agree, I think the Dolphins are the bigger storyline coming out of the game. Like, they've now played three really good teams, and they've lost all three of them, and they came back against Kansas City, but they were getting killed in that game too. They were 21 -0 midway through the third quarter, and frankly, if Chris Jones doesn't take one of the dumbest personal fouls you've ever seen, it's probably 21 -7, and we're having a different discussion. I think your point though, man, is good with the Dolphins in the sense of like, there's timing strung off. They're just dead in the water. They have no answer for it, and we've seen that now multiple times, this year and last year. Kansas City basically said, we're going to get up on the line of scrimmage, we're going to get our hands on Tyreek Hill, we're going to reroute them, we're going to cause problems. Look, who knows them better than the Chiefs, right? I mean, they know what can cause some issues, and they actually went back and watched practice tape of a couple years ago to try to figure out how to stop them. They went back and watched how they worked against him in team drills and practice, and tried to figure out some things, and it obviously worked. But from the Chiefs' angle of this, listen, the offense is a disaster, okay? They had 46 yards in the second half of the game in a turnover. But they're 7 -2 in the number one seed in the AFC because the defense is incredible, and they're just shutting people down left and right. If you go and look this year at teams that have played the Chiefs, nobody's thrown for 300 yards. Kirk Cousins came the closest. He was up in the higher 200s because he threw a million passes. But if you look at Gough's numbers, 253 yards, one touchdown, which was a good game. That was without Chris Jones that week. Trevor Lawrence, they didn't score a touchdown. He threw 41 times for 216 yards. Justin Fields threw for 99 yards. Zach Wilson, of all people, had one of the best days against him, 245 and two touchdowns. That game. wild And then you had Cousins, who went for 284 and two touchdowns on 47 attempts. Russell Wilson threw for 95 yards one game, and in the other game, the game that they won, he threw for 114. These teams, two I didn't throw for 200 yards. Nobody's throwing for yardage against them. They're second in the league in sacks, the first in pressure rate. They've got two elite corners in McDuffie and Sneet, and so, look, the question with Kansas City is obvious. Can this offense get going? Because if the offense gets going, they're probably the best team in the NFL. I mean, if they get even borderline top -10 production out of that offense, forget it. They have the week now to scout. I was texting with some people around the team, and I think there's a general thought of like, look, it's a bunch of little things that are throwing off the whole thing. Question is, how many of those little things can you fix in the next couple of months? The good news is you have Mahalem, you have Kelsey, you've got a good offensive line, you've got Andy Reid. The bad news is they have you and me at receiver. So, I mean, that's the question. My guess? They'll fix it to an extent. I don't think it's going to be a unit that you'll look at and go, oh my God, they're incredible. I think it's probably going to be a top -10 unit right around there at the end of the year. They're in the mix, but yeah, I agree, man. The Dolphins are definitely the thing that you'll look at right now, and the team you'll look at right now and go, all right, you're going to make the playoffs, but what are you going to do when you get there? Are you going to beat somebody good, or is there going to be a one -and -done? Matt, let me ask a quick question, because you watch this team closely, and I think I watch them good enough because they're always on prime time, but all these analytics people are saying, look at the EPA, look at the DVOA. They're top five in offense in all these categories, and I'm like, I get it. You keep showing me the numbers, but I keep watching the games, and the wide receivers are not that great. They're not scoring points. They had nine points against Denver, so I don't know what it is. Maybe when you said disaster, I'm like, okay, cool, because I was trying to play it safe. Maybe they're average because there's something here that I'm missing with the DVOA and the EPA. They're a disaster by their standards. By anyone else's standards, yeah, they're probably still an above -average offense, but by their standards, they're a train wreck. I will say this. People forget it because they won the Super Bowl last year. They were somewhat of a train wreck offensively the first half of last year, too. They had a bunch of games last year. They lost to the Colts last year. They muddled through a Chargers game that they ended up winning because of a pick -six that went 99 yards the other way. They struggled offensively against the Bills. They ended up beating the Raiders on a Monday night last year, but they were down 17 -0, and they needed to come back in that game. They were not good offensively for stretches of last season, and then they're them. In January, they cranked it up, and that was it. Even on one ankle, Mahomes did enough to win. But this has been the year before that. They were 3 -4 at the beginning of the year. They couldn't score a point in that season. That was the year Mahomes played, again, by his standards, not by anybody else's, but by his standards. He played poorly. You go to 2021, and they lost in the AFC title game. They were 3 -4, and then people say, oh, well, then they came out of it. They did in terms of that they won games. Their point totals after that 3 -4 start, they won 20 -17, 13 -7. Then they blew the Raiders out, scored 41, 19 -9, 22 -9. The last couple of years, they've had stretches like this, but by their standards, they're a disaster offensively right now. By the NFL's standards, they're probably somewhere between 10 -12th in the league offensively. So, got to take it for what it's worth. Yeah. All right. Let's get to the next game here. The Bengals and the Bills will go right to Sunday Night Football, speaking of a team that by their standards is an offensive disaster, despite what EPA will tell you. I'm not here to bag on the analytics, guys. I will tell you this. I'm a big eye test guy. You watch the Bills. My eye test, I don't care that they're fourth or whatever in EPA offensively. They have not been good over the last month and change. I don't think there's any way to say that otherwise. They go to Cincinnati. They made it a little bit closer at the end, but they were down 24 -10 with a few minutes left. They score a touchdown. They get the two, but they can't get the ball back. The Bengals now, 5 -3. Winners of four straight playing like we expected them to play at the beginning of the year. The Bills are 5 -4. It has been a struggle for them. They started the year 3 -1. Since then, they're 2 -3 going in the other direction. They have a very hard schedule. We'll get to that in a moment. What was your main takeaway from that Bengals -Bills game? Just the difference in quarterback play between Joe Burrow and Josh Allen and how to cover that game. I wrote about it. I kept seeing Joe Burrow moving around the pocket and extending plays. Then I look at the boxer, I'm like, wait, he has four rushing yards? I thought he ran for a bunch of yards. I know he had that one where he had the first down kind of signal. It's just when pressure comes, he knows how to move. It's smooth. It's not like he has to speed it up. He just says, okay, cool. You're right there, but I'm still going to do what I have to do and just extend plays. Matt, when it's Drew Sample and Tanner Hudson and Erskine Jr., Trenton Irwin, these guys are making plays. Then you look at Josh Allen, when the pressure comes, it looks difficult. It's chaotic. He has to kind of see what's out there and then, okay, force a throw or miss a throw. I get the Bengals defense is better than the Bills defense, so Burrow had maybe an easier time, but there was pressure. He was fighting pressure. I get it. The second there is not as good there, but it just seems harder for Josh Allen.

"And all the years he was in Detroit. I even there might have been more people watching with the Buccaneers lines, regulars, or Buccaneers, rams, regular season game, but I had more viewers than a Detroit Lions playoff game ever had. And Matthew Stafford is the most yards and he's got the best stats ever for a quarterback. He's never wanna playoff game. And I just love seeing the guy getting an opportunity to play in really big moments and doing well and winning. I just think Matthew Stafford has waited his whole career for moments like he had on Sunday. I love seeing it happen unless he can do well. And I'm so so happy for Matthew Stafford. Okay, let me drink some water real quick. Final topic of the day. 48 minutes in unbroken, perfect. I'm doing, I feel really good. There's a fan in the background. I hope it can't be heard. I will be heartbroken. If there's a fan you can hear in the background, however, my theory is that the fan, there's a door and a curtain between me and the fan and I think the fan on the lanai is going to block out a lot of the sound coming from my voice out of my apartment. That way people below me and next to me can't hear me. That's my theory. I'm praying, that's how that works. Okay. I already covered three games from NFL week three. I talked about the rams versus Tampa and another topic, Sunday Night football packers at forty-niners. I talked about that. Bears browns, Justin Fields, first ever NFL start. I already talked about those three games. You can find those topics elsewhere. However, there are still 9 noteworthy stories I want to talk about from NFL week three. Number one is this the ravens beat the Lions with a crazy game winning field goal. A new NFL record 66 yards from Justin Tucker bounced off the cross bar, it went in, was good. And to get there, what's even more unbelievable about this kick? It's unbelievable. The ravens had to convert a fourth and 19 on their own 16 yard line and they did. It's insane and I felt really bad for Lions fans. I felt bad because first of all, the quarterback Jared Goff played a pretty clean game, 22 for 30 passing no turnovers. And also the Lions. Ravens receiver marques Brown. I'm not even going to call him Hollywood because he doesn't deserve it. Marquise Brown dropped two touchdowns back to back. And the whole all those people, the Lamar can't throw crowd..

"Maybe thrown the ball away from the pocket and avoided a sacred tube by just getting rid of the football, like throwing it in the dirt or something. There were a couple times all that Justin Fields was hesitant and was afraid to do the wrong things. We just took a sack rather than getting rid of the ball getting it out of his hands. But did you guys see Jason Peters trying to play left tackle against Cleveland? Jason Peters was awful. The left tackle for the bears? Do you see his cut block on a three step from the shotgun passing point? Where Jesse always takes a long drop. Jason Peters tries to cut block. You cut block. Then what's your plan? You're on the ground. You can't actually do any pass pro if you're on the ground. Was there a miscommunication? Did he think Justin Fields is going to catch and throw the ball immediately? He's like, what's going on there? Jason Peters, how to play where, for some reason, he didn't expect to be blocking miles Garrett who's the guy outside of him. Miles Garrett on your left, and Jason Peters for some reason, was he on drugs? I don't know. He just doesn't even look at ball snapped, doesn't even look at a miles Gerard off to his left. He just focuses in, there's no one who has left a block mail Garrett. He lets miles Garrett get halfway past him and then gives like a half assed block trying to block. I'm like, what are you doing? Jason Peters is a well respected NFL veteran. Look, I don't know what he's doing here, but that was not the way. He was awful against miles Gary. And when you have your left tackle playing that badly, you can't do anything. Ask the Titans week one against Taylor Taylor Wanda's horrible week one against the colts. This is the cold two to the Titans play week one. Whoever the Seattle maybe, whoever, Taylor lewan was really, really awful week one. Whoever the Titans played out, I'm blanking on that, but I remember he makes terrible..

"Jess and fields is not as fast as Kyler Murray or Lamar Jackson. He just doesn't have the speed to get to the outside that Kyler or Lamar has. Let's acknowledge that, first of all. So yes, he's not as fast. However, that was not the problem against Chicago. I expected Justin to be able to make one guy miss in the backfield escape a sack and run around. The problem was it was never just one guy. It was like two, three, four people in his face immediately snapped the ball, guys, pressure in his face and it was constant. The pressure was unrelenting. I have answered my house. They always are near our sink. And it was like, no matter what you do no matter how much cleaning you do, no matter how much you get rid of the crumbs, the answer always there, they're just relentless. That is exactly what the pass rush was like for Cleveland. If you ever have had an ant problem, and you're like, I can't get rid of these ants no matter what I do. The same feeling of no matter what you do, you always try to deal with it, and then you look at every morning you're like, they're back. I can't get rid of them. That was how it felt to watch the bears try to block the browns defensive line. No matter what they did, no matter how many times you had hope every new play, hey, maybe it'll be different this time. No, it was never different. They'd never could solve it. And I want to acknowledge something really quick. First of all, I am not going to be the person who will defend Matt nagy. I did not like the play calling, I saw bears coach Matt nagy called zone read a couple of times. I thought there were a couple times where he tried to move the pocket with a sprint out or a bootleg. But he did it like a time or two and then didn't come back to it. And I was really frustrated, dude, you got to get Justin Fields moving outside of the pocket. And you have to call it. And it felt like Matt nagy was kind of waiting and hoping for Justin Fields to make it big crazy play. Make someone miss in the backfield and run around. And rather than putting him position to do it, Matt Maggie just waited hoping it would happen. That is not a good way to coach. You have to put people in a position to be successful. You can't just cross your fingers, call a bad play, and then hope they're gonna do something explosive. That's not how you coach. So I felt like Matt nagy could have done better. And I have in the past defended him and this is the closest I will get to defending Matt nagy. I will say this. No offense can work with a bad offensive line. I don't care what play call you make, if the bear is offensive line plays the way they played against Cleveland. It's hopeless. I wonder, how would Sean mcvay have done? Sean mcvay is the head coach of the LA rams. If you gave Sean mcvay, the bears team we saw against Cleveland. That mismatch. That bad offensive line, a rookie quarterback in his first ever start. I don't think Matt nagy did good, but my question is, how well do you think a really creative smart coach like Sean mcvay or Kyle Shanahan would have done first of all, it would have had a way more motions, although the question is can is a bear's offense even disciplined enough to run motion and not screw it up and can your rookie quarterback because it's.

"Now, Chicago. Chicago, Chicago, Chicago. Where do I start man? Bears rookie quarterback Justin Fields made his first ever NFL start. And I woke up excited and hopeful I wanted to watch something incredible and I didn't care if the bears won, but I'm like, hey, I get to watch this young quarterback. Hopefully, do something really cool. And it was a disaster. It was awful. Justin Fields was 6 for 20 passing, had 68 yards. And here's the really disappointing number, though. And I'll dive into it more in a moment. Justin Fields ran the ball three times for 12 yards during this football game. He was sacked 9 times, 9 times is insane. Am I oh my God. I can't believe what we saw. I was just like, this is a heartbreaking and painful to watch. And I worry for the guy because this was probably the worst game of Justin Fields entire life. He dominated high school. I probably had a gamer. He was a backup at Georgia that was really frustrating, but at Ohio State, never skipped a beat. He was incredible. And it's also really not just in fields fault he had a bad game. Basically everything to do tried failed. And I feel like Justin Fields ran into a brick wall against Chicago. I felt bad for him. I worry for him. I saw David Carr. I've watched David Carr film. Against Houston. That's before my time. I was barely even. I was like 5 years old when David CarPlay. But I've gone back and watched that film, and he had no chance the office of land was horrible. That's what it felt like. And David Carr's career was ruined by getting sacked a ton. And it probably won't happen again to this level, but my goodness. It was very, very concerning if you're a bears fan. I'm not a bears fan, but I like Justin Fields I want him to do well. And I've been rooting the whole time like please can Chicago find the franchise quarterback. They've been looking for for years and geez. The Cleveland game was awful. And I was disappointed too that here's the other thing I thought I would come back to. I was hoping that and really believed that Justin Fields would be able to escape the pass rush. I was like, well, he'll make a couple plays and he'd make a guy miss and run around..

"Would. Justin field's ability to run around and extend plays. It adds an element to the bear's offense that they really, really need at this point of the year. And I just think Chicago's going to be more competitive with Justin Fields as they're starting quarterback. And I had Chicago starting the year zero and 9. And a lot of that was because of Andy Dalton's inability to escape a pass rush and run around to keep plays alive. And so what Justin field's ads can not be understated. Like, his ability to run. It's just going to really evolve that offense. And I can't wait to watch him. I think his first game against Cleveland's kind of a rough matchup, I would actually if I could perfectly hand craft everything would go, I would rather Justin field start week four against Detroit Lions because the browns have on the defensive line really stout group, they have miles Garrett Clowney. But I repeat that even with a good defensive line like Chicago has an browns have Cleveland. And even though Cleveland's a really good football team, Justin Fields gives Chicago a better opportunity to win than Andy Dalton would. And the bears win celebrate be very, very happy if they lose to Cleveland. Don't panic, Cleveland's a better football team. But again, I would rather, Justin start week four. But things didn't work out that way. He got Andy Dalton got hurt. They put Justin Fields in. They gathered momentum and that the team is behind him. It would feel weird, I think for that locker room to go backwards to Andy Dalton when I think the locker room clearly was behind Justin Fields. And I just gotta say, it's weird. He's a rookie. He's not fully ready. He's going to make mistakes, but in spite of all that, I really like starting Justin Fields over Andy Dalton. I can't wait to watch, and I actually think that Justin Fields gives Chicago a better opportunity to win because of his legs. All right guys, I'm gonna take a short break when I return, coming up, we have the top story lines right now week three, and then we will finish the show with ask Zach. My name is actually I'm.

Bears' Andy Dalton: Looking Over Shoulder at Justin Fields Worst Thing to Do

"It's all anyone has been talking about. Andy dalton the biz. Qb one starting. Sunday night against aaron donald and the ranch yesterday dalton addressed his mindset heading into this season with the rookie justin fields waiting in the wings. That's the worst thing you can do is look over your shoulder and so i think that's understanding that is is key about tuning out the stuff that you don't need to focus on and knowing where you need to put your time and effort and all that kind of stuff. "To Andy Dalton. So Andy Dalton did meet the media today. And when I saw this clip on Twitter, just the the words of it, I go. Is this actually something that Andy Dalton said. Not that it's crazy, but for him to say that it's his time. His time is now Andy Dalton's not Spring chicken anymore. Andy Dalton has been the year the league for a very long time, and I go let me wait to hear the audio to make sure that this is authentic and legit. And eventually the audio did surface about 20 minutes after I did read the words that were put out there and then they did get the audio and the video of all that stuff out there. So let's hear this is Andy Dalton from earlier today who says he's excited for Justin Fields. But this is my time. I know who I am. I know who I was created to be. I know. Um, we're my identity lies and so, um I want the fans behind me and this team and all that kind of stuff. Yes, I want them behind Justin. Absolutely. I do. Um But That's not my focus. I can't focus on all that right now. Um, like I said, before Justin's going to have his time and Justin is going to have a great career. But right now it's my time. And so my focus is on being the best player I can be for this team and do everything I came to help his team win. Now, Here's my question to Andy Dalton. There's something crazy with what he said there. But how long is it going to be your time?

"Tell you the other team. I'm excited about because a complete overhaul. Their allied is at kansas city. Kansas city out was bold and released both of starting tackles from the previous super bowl. Which i think was not popular at the time. But they continue to show that they had a plan and they went out and they were aggressive in free agency You know they got the deal. Done for orlando brown. The added a tiny All of a sudden you got joe. Tony orlando brown at end. They drafted humphries in all of a set. You sign kyle. All of a sudden. "And another team and their actions. That aren't making a whole lot of sense now. Are the chicago bears and head coach matt nagy because this week matt nagy came out and obviously he's in a win or else win or lose your job type of situation in chicago but nagy came out and essentially committed to andy dalton as a starting quarterback this week which is just bonkers especially when in the nfl draft. You traded a future first round. Pick to go up and take justin fields out of ohio state number eleven overall justin field as your future. Even if matt nagy and gm ryan pace. Aren't there certainly hoping that justin fields shows enough. This year this season not just to save their jobs but to position the bears to go back to the again and maybe win a playoff game and show that there can be some promise with this quarterback in that franchise and i think the justin fields has that ability. I think that when you watch him he can make all the throws. He's won a lot of games at ohio state. He's not your typical state quarterback he committed to penn state transferred to d- committed to penn state rather went to georgia faced a lot of adversity in georgia overcame at ohio state. Is Urban Meyer Taking a Gamble With Tebow?

"The biggest story in the nfl right now. is tim. Tebow and the jacksonville. Jaguars on friday afternoon. The jaguars sign boat to a one year. Nine hundred fifty thousand dollar minimum deal as a tight end. His jersey makes up the top five selling items on the nfl shop dot com store. Now figure that out and to me urban meyer's really running the risk of losing his locker room here because if you talk to people inside the league if you talk to executives and other coaches there's a lot of genuine skepticism over urban meyer becoming. Nfl head coach generally. And there's a sense that it's four more likely that he flames out and never wins a playoff game than it is that he winds up winning a super bowl when this experiment bringing in tim tebow not necessarily even as a quarterback you have trevor lawrence. They're bringing tim tebow into that locker room in two thousand and twenty one and having him sing for his supper is a tight end. There's a belief that meyer runs the chance inside the league of losing his locker room before this season even begins

Jaycee Horn's Rise to the NFL

"We'll do some people thought that the panthers maybe should have taken a quarterback specifically justin fields with number eight pick. What is matt rule said about his decision to go with jesse horn. What does he like about this guy. One thing he did say as like jaycee lived this like he knows what it takes to be successful in the nfl. Because he saw his dad he lived at his dad was. Nfl player. great nfl player. he's grown up with it. His whole life play at the highest level. He's got thirty three inch charms. He's six one. Whatever he is ran for three jumped forty two inches. I mean he's a. He's a rare physical specimen who also has the pedigree that's hard to find. He loves jc horn. He loves the physical nature cockiness and the size the speed to match up with all the big receivers in this division but it also tells us something about what the panthers feel about. Sam darnold over justin fields. Right i mean darnold is a guy when they traded for him. They talked a lot about this like he could almost be in this draft from an age standpoint. He's only twenty. Three darnold turns twenty four june. He's younger than joe burrow. Who of course was in last year's draft but it's a risk and if just enfield's goes on to be an all pro guy and chicago and the bears answer quarterback. History will not look upon this panthers decision favorably again. Nothing to do j. c. more about darnold versus justin fields.

"It really. You know coach to to even expand on the baseball saying. I don't know how many people really know how deep justin feels baseball background was. How good of a baseball player was he was e- seriously a high level player was something that he just did because he can do it in high school now was a high level player. I believe the play more because he kind of gave try wall off ninth grade. If i'm the second and from what. They were saying last year or two years ago before he went to georgia. If you would have played more baseball Protected the first round pick so yeah that downs. How level baseball first round baseball pretty high level coach i would love you know just with these two kids. Those kids being together coach. They ever trained together. Digestion a trevor ever trained together and if so what was that like well we only did it. One time i said to what they said why we had it where going into freshman year georgia and clemson. We had him on the field together and usually neither one of them talk doing a session. So this session was even extra quiet because you could see the competitive level. Go ankle ankle in this type of session where you don't really say much just watching it. Enjoy it because it was much to say they. They went at it from head. Start to the finish and it's pretty good inspiration hit coach. How unusual is it to have to. I mean top. Picks within thirty five miles of each other is their quarterback talent in that area in georgia. Yeah right now. I'm kind of biased. Way yeah i think you have a good group of people training quarterbacks in atlanta right now and atlanta has kids. Maybe fifteen twenty years right. Now be one office in georgia. And i don't know if there's a high bid but something's happening in some some good is happening now in and we'll take you so like i said those two kids are helping so many accused that they probably don't even know about foresee dreams clinton at the next level or even making an nfl. But what they're doing is really help stamp night. I can do the same thing if i really really focus on what i'm doing and respecting. How be humble about the game. It's not where it can take me somewhere a black. I thought some interesting stuff. There from ron veal talking about justin going back to the combination there with the football and baseball. I thought that was very interesting. I think is really interesting because easier. We look at some of the top quarterback stutter playing. Nfl now they certainly have a baseball background. And we've delicacies. You talked about having middle in hands in now. The skills from baseball certainly can help Football player quarterback in. So i think that is an interesting observation. Who Will Pick Kyle Pitts in Thursday's NFL Draft?

"All right. Let's have fun here with. Kyle pits blank will select kyle pits right. I think it's the falcons. I mean friscos. Been talking about this for some time. He doesn't think that the falcons are gonna take a quarterback he thinks arthur blank is all in on on matt ryan for another year to have a new coach and the new general manager. And here's the thing like if you trade down four. And i suspect it'll be teams interested in trading up to four to get whether it's trae lance macaroni justin fields. If you're the falcons if you move down if you move down you're not getting cockpits. That's just the end the conversation because either the bengals. The dolphins entertainment five or six and presumably. You're not trading with those teams already have quarterbacks. So that's the math you're doing and if you're not getting likely to march as we saw a report on monday for peter king that maybe julio jones could be moved with which seems crazy what they need a cap space Could you turn down for. Cornerback if the falcons you could but again what gives you more value in terms of making that football team better. I think it's how pet. So if i'm the falcons and i'm not taking justin feels matteo's trae lands i'm sampling. Taking cup pits. Janssen the blank blank. We'll take pets. I think it's it's atlanta. But i also be surprised if the team traded up with the falcons maybe even take pits like ryan saying you know the train up to the quarterback but you know teams fall in love your dallas. You know thousand the four but you know if a team really loves him that much and it's hard not to love that much than you could see. Maybe a team being overly aggressive. I think it was on On the nfl network this morning on good morning football there was a segment that they do with the giants traded up. You know. I don't know who is doing the job. Esau just a screen grab of it on twitter but the giants gave their first or second ebony ingram and something else to move up to four to get pits and it was you know something that on paper make some sense but you know. Obviously something is not likely to happen but still i would say it's four is where he goes. But the falcons do make some sense especially they decided we want from me jonesing. Another playmaker

"You also had a chance to visit with former ohio state running back and current baltimore ravens running back. Jk dobbins about his Impressions of justin feels. You know you think about the standard of late you guys have also been able to produce quarterbacks and so you play with justin feels who is one of the top quarterbacks in this year's draft what makes justin feels special as a plane. He's all around guy. You know what i'm saying. He going to work hard. I'm going to be a first in last out. He go try to find him nash to beat his opponent. He's thrown away and everything and then he's in the film room he's going to study he's gonna study study. Study then like this guy giving talent you see him. He's fast then his arm time he can. He got a rocky as arm gnome. Says so he's got it all and he's gonna be he's gonna be great. He's going to be great. You know a lot of would goes to playing successfully quarterback in the national. Football league has to do what your leadership ability. What kind of leadership qualities and traced is. justin feels. what yeah. He's a leader. You know what i'm saying. what i what. He his first year with me us was new to stay in. He still came in. He used to grow as a leader. You know what i'm saying. He was a young guy but he's growing a leader towards the end of the year. He was leading the teeth. You know what i'm saying. Then this pasture you could just see it. The guys use command and everyone loves saying he was. That was his team. You know saying in like when he gets hurt and it's coming back and he's he's a warrior no saying like when goss either leader you know get hurt and it makes them play hard and that's what he brings to the table he's gonna gonna make everyone around him better and he's gonna leads gonna make sure he's gonna try to win that game. You know what i'm saying for the team you know it's funny because you have an opportunity to play with a guy. Lamar jackson who is a unique talent as a as a runner and a play making the backfield justin feels has shown ability to run. But he's also a special athlete. What's his like when you're in the bathroom together. What is justin feels like as an athlete when you're playing beside him similar similar to lamar but not as squeak labar. "And it's been an awesome experience for me to be around him to be in the film room to get up on the whiteboard and talk through everything you know the team that gets justin's going to really liked what he brings to the table. What is the one thing that might have surprised you about justin upon meeting him. I did not know that. Justin had a background in baseball. And justin's very athletic guy like you watch him on tape and you just see the strong powerful like so hard to bring down the pocket. I was so impressed. When i got to talk through him what he was going through. What is the process of his ability to make plays. And i mean he just looks the part of a guy that when he walks in the locker of your alpha that dude just looks part but it was so cool for me to know the back story of his life just how involved he wasn't baseball. How much baseball played to me right off the bat that just as a coach i see. Wow there's so much i can do with that background. All these guys that come from other sports immediately you know. Oh my gosh. If he has this in his background. Here's what i can do if he has this background. So it's been really cool to know that about justin push him in some areas because he can make those off script you know sliding left. Make those tough throws because of that background that he has so to me. That was a really cool thing to figure out and then apply that to our practice building. Some of our workouts for guys like by justin fields. I had watched him through these last couple years. I knew about when he went to georgia. But i don't have that interaction with him until he gets here and just watching the way he approaches things. He's already approaching things like a true professional He's here early. He asked to get extra time in gets an opportunity to the to prepare for his interviews and he calls me on the phone and says hey. Can you help prepare. This offense can you. Can we go over this again. Because i want to nail it i i love more that baseball conversation You know but to me. It's a positive right. There's a lot of positives you take from that and we talked earlier. You mentioned matthew stafford and you talk about cuyler. Murray and baker mayfield is baseball but to me. Let's go back to john elway for crying out loud. This is not a There's not a bad thing to have that baseball on your background. I think john beckett a good job explaining that yeah explaining. "Like the first time you got on the field with justin and got a chance to to actually coach him. Well when we get to work with them in camp you could see that he was pretty special and then he wanted to his freshman year. We kept him with the freshman. Because we had a pretty talented quarterback lorenzo nunez who ended up going south carolina at the time so he stayed with the freshman was very productive there but just to watch him drop back. Throw the ball down the field. You knew you had somebody. That's pretty special anytime. You have a quarterback that can throw the ball the way he could. You know the probably good things are in store down. The road was there. Was there a wild moment at all coach. Once you got him up to the varsity level was there a moment in where maybe you guys kind of looked around each other and say okay. This is a little different now. Well definitely when we started putting in some new plays like the first time we put in power read. He went sixty yards to the house. So we knew that was pretty good. Play having a quarterback like justin fields. I mean you thought outside the box you know the next year his junior year and and just everything he did. He just took it to another left. Let's just justin for a. He's so talented. What was he like from a work ethic standpoint coach. Somebody's obviously tremendously gifted But you don't get to where he is right now without matching that with a work ethic. Yeah he's just never really satisfied was like that in high school if You know one time. We scored forty three points. So we lost forty five forty three his senior year and he was trying to take the blame that loss because he had a fumble but that just makes them worth that much harder but he's very humble he always gonna take the responsibility even on. It's not his seen through his high school career. You've seen that through his college career. He likes to be challenge. He definitely likes to hear the critics. He just soaks it all in and usually when people are maybe trash talking about him for while you're going to see a great outcome probably the following week down the road. That's just the way he is. It just makes them work that much harder near coach. I think of that. That fighter almost kind of tastes his own blood and then takes his his game to a whole 'nother level we. We saw that on the national scale of on the national stage. I should say against clemson. He takes that huge shot and then goes on to play..

"Media recognize the town is just off the charts. Rare rare physical specimen. Throw at plenty of time. Sometimes you think supernatural everyone. It's daniel jeremiah from move the sticks and i'm bucky brooks and this is justin feels three sixty all right buck again. One of the favorite things that we do on the move. The six podcast are these three sixty episodes. We do before the draft where we highlight a couple of top players and we devoted an entire episode to doing a deep dive as if we were scouting right cultivating those sources talking to coaches teammates. Anybody we can find to learn more about a player. And i feel like we've got a pretty thorough. Look coming your way here on justin fields. Yeah think is a very thorough though because we had opportunity to talk to a couple of coaches. No justin feels really really well Try coaches high school coach. We had a chance to talk to coaches data continue to foster development along the way his head coach at ohio state ryan day and then some of the other coaches and teammates also able to paint a picture on how justin feels has become one of the top prospects in this twenty twenty one draft. It'd be helpful to have somebody on. That's coached him to a championship and We do. I want you tell that story buck for those. That don't know. I wish i could say i could claim but what i can is. I watched a guy play at an extraordinary level at an elite eleven camp. And i think what really stands out to me about. Watching just feels when i i was exposed to when he was a high school going into his senior year just a raw talent daddy displayed. I mean you talk about someone who had the time was really built. like an nfl player Tremendous arm talent could make the throws and for a guy who came in really celebrated as dual threat. He shredded opponents with his ability to throw from the pocket and what was unusual about the way he did it At the time we were introducing what they call pure progression concepts where. It's not just your own Curl flat reads whatever. Quarterbacks are really tasked with reading across the field and for whatever reason it really worked with his game and his eye and he shredded and terrorized opponents with his ability. Do that and i think it gave us a preview of what was to come for him as a college player. I remember going up there. I remember visiting with him talking with him And was like talking to a tenure pro after it was over and visiting with you have having been around him for all time you liked. This kid is the real deal and this is a seventeen eighteen year. Old kid But you got a chance to coach. Watch learn and perform at an elite level. No pun intended There at the elite eleven. And that's kind of where. His journey began in terms of getting on the nfl's radar Say but it started well before that. And that's what we've accomplished here on this episode. Try to go back in the way back machine here to learn a little bit more about justin field. So we're looking at development. Trevor Lawrence Responds to Critics

"Want to transition a little bit of nfl because obviously the next big thing on the nfl draft calendar or on the sports counter really is the nfl draft. And it's kind of crazy because there are so many different narratives that are popping up mack. Jones moving updraft boards justin field potentially moving down draft boards. So narratives going on. And so what. I kinda wanna do. That was a new piece of information that came out today. That really leads to an older piece of information from earlier this week that i want your opinion on and so listen. It's draft season. You hear all sorts of crazy stuff but there was a report out a lengthy report from the athletic earlier today which which which interviewed a bunch of anonymous gm's and coaches and stuff like that and so it said in this athletic report. You told me that justin field was going to be better than trevor lawrence and five years. I would say yes that could happen. That was an anonymous. Gm told that to the athletic. And so i thought that quote was kind of interesting in the context of what happened earlier this week with trevor lawrence. I know you and chris touched on it briefly but for the audience. That hasn't fully heard the quotes. I'll read it really quick robin than i want your response but trevor lawrence of course the presumptive number pick. Since the beginning of time no one has ever debated his place as the best player in this draft. He sat down for a pretty lengthy interview with sports illustrated and he said a few different things where he said. It's hard to explain that. Because i want people to know that i'm passionate about what i do and it's really important to me but i don't have the huge chip on my shoulder that everyone's out to get me and i'm trying to prove everybody wrong. I just don't have that. I can't manufacture that. I don't want to and i think that people mistake debt for not being competitive. I think that's unhealthy to certain extent. He's talking about that chip. Just always thinking that you've got to prove somebody wrong. You've got to do more. You've got to be better

"This is the Greg Bedard Patriots podcast with Nick cabins. Okay, Greg for the past couple of weeks you've been dying to get to the 2022 Patriots. Now. I know some people are listening to this and saying really we gotta focus on 2022 when the draft is now to walk away. Listen, I follow along what Greg says is what we want to do here and and we go with what Greg is thinking. So Greg Bedard says, let's just press the pause button down on the on the draft stuff and all of that and let's look at twenty twenty-two because Greg your argument to those people who say why are we talking about 20-22? I think your argument is dead. Well, we have to talk about twenty twenty-two because you think it's going to affect the draft. So, you know, depending on what this roster looks like in 2022 that should lead you to what they might do two weeks from today to set themselves up to be better off in 2022. So Greg tell the people you say the situation in twenty-two is a concern to you Thirty e Five players are already signed for $167 million dollars of the cap. Tell us why the Patriots are looking at twenty twenty-two and saying to themselves. Oh, man, we got to figure this thing out. Okay. So I understand people are probably like you know, what what what are we doing? You have to understand that teams run on a different tracks at the same time. Yes, they are looking this coming year with the draft and things like that. Sometimes you drew draft for need and we could see that with the Patriots with quarterback and and you know, maybe a couple other places to give themself cover like say for Stephon Gilmore if they have plans on trading him or or what have you but you know, and I've been in a bunch of different offices for general managers and one of the things that you see in every one of their offices is a depth chart basically by year up on the Blackboard and and it's either by year or it's one big Depth chart color coded by when a player's contract is up..

What Should the Atlanta Falcons Do With the 4th Pick?

"Talk about another quarterback order player Who people these days. Certainly no. and that's matt ryan about that for a transition Terrific quarterback for very long time. 2016 was his best year was the mvp of the league with the falcons and took that team all the way to the super bowl and then from that point forward it has been sued of a steady decline for the team despite making the postseason in two thousand seventeen. They've won just eighteen games over the last three years and with that regression the falcons might hit the reset button in this draft with ryan being almost thirty six. They have a new head coach. And arthur smith they have the fourth pick. Overall general manager is teri faulk no and he said quote. We wanna stack good quarterbacks. Its prime time to do it. When you have a player like matt ryan because when you can get in the white quarterback you don't have that pressure play them right away so it opens up so many possibilities and we have to make sure we're evaluating those positions and we feel good about what we where we are there a lot of different ways to take that it certainly what i would say if among other things i wanted someone to come and try and trade for my fourth pick in this draft so teddy. I'm giving it to you directly here if you were the falcons right now. Are you looking to bring in players to help matt ryan try and win a championship again or are you looking to draft his eventual replacement. Said like i said about the smokescreen season. There you go right there you make everyone think that you're okay with draft a quarterback in developing under matt ryan. But you gotta take advantage of the quarterback desperation which is in this draft and everyone one maybe sneak up if they're guy falls to four and go ahead and get him because i think they should build and they need to usually head coaches come in. And they'll want to stack pile not quarterbacks but draft picks in terms of building a foundation model for their team so i would say definitely take advantage of the fourth overall pick trade down. Try to see if you can get some building.

"Game from justin fields and then adds more to it why we have these conversations because he mentioned the fact that he had they had really one padded practice before that game so timing and rhythm you know is not going to be there so that made that even more impressive to me you know. I thought it was very impressive. Performance because always in wanna look at prospects where they're going through their worst moments. Because i want to see the level of resilience and toughness today bounce back do they. Shower is at the end freedom. And i think coming off the heels of that spectacular performance against clemson missing most of the preparation week due to the injury in ensuring implant alabama. I thought it was a gritty. Gutsy performance wasn't best performance. But i think there were some some flashes that you can kinda cling to the suggest he's going to be an outstanding the next lump no doubt do wanna remind everybody we are going to have our three sixty series coming up soon which this year will be on three players. We're going to have it on trevor lawrence. we're going to have it on. Zach wilson. yes we're going to have it on justice field so we go back and talk to guys who've known these kids since high school. We talked to teammates. We talked to coaches. We put it all together to really give you kind of a holistic picture of were these guys came from and what to expect for them going forward and i think the justin fields one is one of the best ones. We've done book. Yeah i mean like this is a fantastic three sixty look behind the current net. Who just feels is what has got a helped him get to this point but also fascinated when we give the other one's done with trevor lawrence. Zack wilson just to look at these guys just kind of have a better understanding of the new wave of qb one. They should take over the league in the next few years and just another little peek here behind the curtain after we wrapped the interview. We did congratulate coach on ohio state in two zero. Because keeping chris alava and keeping the tight end rucker. Those were two wins for the buckeyes. Those guys are big. Time play decided to go back to columbus smile to get a laugh out of that is what he does a great job by him. Sometimes you got to recruit your before you can go outside the building green guys that gives them a chance to maybe make another run. Yeah so he's again. One appreciate coach days time with us to discuss his quarterback there and justin fields and excited to see where he lands in the upcoming draft right. That's going to do it for us today. Hope you guys have enjoyed this Quick episode here a little peek behind the curtain and learn a little bit more about one of the top quarterbacks in the upcoming draft class. We've enjoyed it. San Francisco 49ers, Miami Dolphins and Philadelphia Eagles Make NFL Draft Trades

"Not in season. But March has been mad for the league, especially this week here, Schefty with what all went down. What happened here is that the 40 Niners have been trying to move up in the draft into the top five, frankly, for the last few weeks now, and they were able to cold together a deal with the Miami Dolphins at the same time that the Dolphins were going together a separate deal. With the Philadelphia Eagles that enabled the 40 Niners toe move up the third overall position to take a quarterback. And that means in all probability that we're gonna have quarterbacks go with the first three picks in this draft. We would think Trevor Laurence goes one Zack Wilson to and then the 40. Niners would have their choice. Assuming they stand three for the third quarterback in this draft. I would not dismiss Mack Jones in that conversation. Like Trey, Lance. They like Justin Fields. They're going to continue to do more and more work here in the weeks leading up to the draft, but they wanted to get into this slot now. So that they could have their choice at three. Knowing that they would get one of these quarterbacks a lot of people then wonder what happens to Jimmy Garoppolo. Sure, they're gonna be trading him right? Not so fast, because they believe that this is a Super Bowl caliber roster, and they're not ready to hand that roster toe a young rookie quarterback who's unproven just yet. So in their minds today, Jimmy Garoppolo is going to be a quarterback and opening day, and that's not a leverage play. That's not them trying to bait another team into giving up more compensation for Jimmy Garoppolo. Their true honest plan today is to have Jimmy Garoppolo as the starting quarterback. Have the first round draft pick that they take a quarterback learn for a year and then eventually it will be his job in San Francisco going forward. We have

"Mock draft three point. Oh is available on. Espn plus right. Now and here. We go no surprise at the top. Trevor lawrence has been there and we'll be there for the moment and started to the moment. That pig is made. He's going jacksonville. And that's not going to change at number. Two mel projects the jets to stay put and select quarterback zach wilson who would be the team's highest drafted quarterback since they took joe nemeth thousand nine hundred sixty five at number three. We have a trade that panthers would move up from number eight to select justin fields from ohio state carolina getting its quarterback of the future miami. Picking up more prime picks. And the falcons make it four for four to begin the draft selecting their quarterback of the future trae lanes. Should it go this way. It would be the first time ever that quarterbacks go with each of the first four picks in the draft. We take a look at the rest of mel's top ten. After the four consecutive quarterbacks we see some other names you will get to know. Kyle pitch superstar tight end. More pass catchers jamarcus devante smith jail waddell notably absent on this screen. Max jones the fifth quarterback in this first round the star from alabama who mel projects. Going number fifteen to the new england patriots and let's start there because mel we spoke about this the last time you broke this down for us. You had max jones going considerably higher namely number eight overall. Why do you see this drop. Greenwich carolina eight with matt rule had max jones at the senior bowl practices where he was exceptional right. So you figure carolina's stuck at eight. They would look at mack. Jones new england and fifteen is built. Bellichik nick sabin connection and obviously looking at a quarterback to get back to. Maybe the tom brady days. Okay get your that type of quarterback which is what mack jones is his style and the way he goes about his business as a pocket passer so once carolina in my mach three point. Zero was moving up to get justin field. Mack jones next opportunity to come off. The board for me would be new england at fifteen.

Eagles trade Carson Wentz to Indianapolis Colts

"You. What are your thoughts here on. The carson wentz listening to come and key overpaid underpaid. Who won the tree. There's just so many opinions out there. What's yours i mean my opinion is for carson wentz. This is best case scenario. I mean this time was up in philly. The the philadelphia fans didn't want him and he didn't want the philadelphia eagles anymore so he gets to move on to a place where he wants to go and he never made it public that he wanted to be an indianapolis colts. But this is the best place for him. Is frank reich. A guy that believes in them. You have a very good defense a good run game. Excellent offensive line some young weapons on the outside. But to me this is put up or shut up for carson. Wentz and frank right reich. You're staking your your career on this guy being what he was in two thousand and seventeen when you haven't had him and now if you're carson wentz you're in a perfect situation for yourself to resubmit yourself as one of the top tier quarterbacks in this league and if you don't do it i believe this is his last opportunity as a no brainer starter for any organization ryan. What's your reaction to the eagles having the six pick and potentially targeting a quarterback at the six spot. You know what i think. The eagles would be stupid to be messed up at quarterback again. Right you look at it last year carson. Wentz didn't play well. You drafted a guy in the second round so there were rumblings that people wanted to see him play and then he plays any outplays carson wentz and now you find yourself in this issue. Do you really want the do that. Couldn't read his press statement in his opening. Press conference to start to season the season with a quarterback controversy. And here's the other problem. Let's say. Trevor lawrence and anzac wilson go one two or go one three. And if you're picking where the philadelphia eagles are if you're not in love with the quarterback don't waste your pick. Don't put yourself in another bad position. And listen to you. Look at trae lance you look at justin feels and i know people are going to kind of compare these guys based on color but that's not it. I'm just talking about style of play. We're talking about two quarterbacks that extend plays the same way. that jalen hurts us. Two quarterbacks that can make all the throws but may read things a step through slow if you listen to some of the skull which. I don't believe about justin fields. Which are going to have quarterbacks. That are very similar at at very similar ages competing. And i don't necessarily know if that's the right thing for an organization starting over with the new coach when you have a guy that had some success in jalen hurts. Evaluate him seeing. If he's your quarterback of the future anythi is you don't waste at picking us to get better somewhere else.

Who is QB2 in 2021 NFL Draft?

"It would have been fully justified and with that we welcome you back as always live from the seaport district appear seventeen brought to you by chase. I green this get up and we have a huge our coming your wine. It starts with this. It's a quarterback sneak mc shays make board is in and wait till you see the first four picks. He's with us live to break down off the top. Then wait a minute. What did russell say. Is he talking about getting sri. Didn't from seattle the wild ride in. Nfl history continues. And then we'll tell you how the shawn watson saga plays out and what it will mean for every team in the nfl. All that and more as we get out with you when this hour which starts right now with todd mcshay post super bowl mock draft. It's available right now on espn plus all it. It's fascinating a number one. That's no big surprise. He's got trevor lawrence going number one to urban meyer and the jaguars. But here's where it gets interesting. He also has quarterbacks going to three and four at two he has the jets taking. Byu's zack wilson who has been rising up. Everybody's draft what he has been be talk of the nfl draft process so far at three overall. He's projecting trade the panthers moving up from eight to take north dakota state's train lance to be their quarterback of the future which leaves ohio states justin field sitting there. Four and mcshea has the falcons taking him fields the second highest total qbr in college football season and then jones sliding down a little bit later to make five quarterbacks in the first round in there he is the man with the mic board. It is mcshea and it's awesome. Let's start with this todd. We all understand. Trevor lawrence going number one. Nothing even to discuss. How firmly planted in. Your mind is zack. Wilson right now as the number two quarterback in this draft. I think very firmly. The first thing i do when the season is over and a govan studied the top quarterbacks. Because i know that's what we're going to talk about for the majority of this process leading up to the draft and after lawrence. There's a little bit of a gap and then at zack wilson. And then there's a gap between gods trey lance from north dakota state and justin feels from ohio state. So i think he is clearly the number two quarterback in this class. The question becomes greenie. Is that the jets taking two or the jets gonna move out and allow a team like a carolina to that number two spot to take him. And that all depends on the domino's in terms of the veteran quarterbacks right now where does shawn watson wind up carson wentz. We know is going to get moved to chicago indianapolis. I think joe douglas. The general manager is kind of waiting. And seeing some of these other quarterbacks go and he's fielding phone calls he's not aggressively making calls but fielding calls to see maybe if they can move sam darnold and if they do exactly since the pick for the jets at number two and if not as i said i think the jets will move outta to and wilson will still wind up being that number number two overall pick in this class. I grew the. I've been saying for a while. I agree with you completely. He'll be number two. The question is who winds up making the peck. Then the other part of this is. I'm old enough to remember a time when we wondered if justin fields might supplant trevor lawrence as the number one draft now all of a sudden these the fourth quarterback off the board. How did that happen. You go back. And study games against indiana northwestern. And then the college football playoff national championship game against alabama. He completed around fifty two percent of throws with five interceptions. Those games in my opinion. You look at it physically. He's big. he's sturdy strong who mobile. He's got a big arm all the traits that you look for. But he likes to see his receivers. Come open and get stuck on that. I read very frequently. So you compare him with trae. Lance and i have identical grades on the to train. Lance didn't play the level of competition. Didn't play as many games as is justin fields but i think he processes the game a little quicker in terms of going from his first into a second and third and seeing the entire field. So it won't surprise me if it feels is third quarterback off the board. But i think they're kind of bunched together in that third tier of quarterbacks behind lawrence wilson and then the other two and then i want to ask you about the guy that you currently have fifth because i'm a regular listener of the first draft podcast and so i'm listening the other day to you and field. Yates and mel kiper talking about what was going on at the senior bowl and everyone is raving about matt jones. Your buddy mel had max jones moving this thing and i believe he has him sort of. I believe he hasn't projected higher than you have in projected. What do you see for mack. Jones as this process goes on the fifth quarterback in the first round. Well i think what's going to happen. He's matt jones is going to benefit from the fact that these four quarterbacks are gonna come off the board quickly and it's probably going to be cut because of trades moving up. I have matt jones going number twelve overall right now in a i had chicago moving up to twelve in san francisco. Moving back to twenty we have to see where carson wentz go. It does go to

"Actual draftkings picks. I play Draftkings every single weekend. I'm in a couple of different head to head and group meetings. And so I'm going to give you these and so usually my picks. We call them K o D as Ted Kot. Pics of death are usually the kiss of death. But in this particular case that is not so I'm pretty good at draftkings. Not bad. A draft kings not good at picking the winners of games legendarily bad at it. In fact, Not bad. A draft kings, So I got two for you this weekend. Here's the complicated Let's start with the easy one to me and easy pick this weekend is JK Dobbins. I love Dobbins. They're going to run the football like crazy this weekend against Tennessee, and you don't want to take Lamar because he's so expensive for those of you Don't play draftkings. You only get a certain amount of money you can spend on different players putting together a roster now Lamar Jackson, I think will be the number one point getting quarterback this week, but by how much? Because he is so incredibly expensive to put on your roster for 6600 can get. JK Dobbins and Dobbins went for 31 points last week, and the plan against the Tennessee team that cannot stop the run and we'll be selling out to stop Lamar. So I love Dobbins this week and then the other little tip. I will give you Is you need You need a stealer receiver in your line up every single week and because they don't do anything but throw the ball. The problem with them is they've got too many different guys. So one week it's juju and one week it's Claypool and one week it's Johnson. So it's very hard to know which one to take. So this week, I'm going to take Chase Claypool. I liked what I saw from him last week. They threw him a jump all last week, and he scored a touchdown on that juju with the playoffs, I think is a good pick. That's where I'm between the two of them for me. I think I'm gonna play Claypool this weekend. So those are just a couple of little tips. For you and there they will cost about the same on draftkings, which is great fun, And you know what a good opportunity So those are my picks for draftkings this weekend Brought to you by Draftkings America's top rated daily fantasy app. I will give you my picks for the game's coming up tomorrow. Meanwhile, The thing that I found to be the most surprising thing in sports happened this morning. Todd McShay. I had been told last night is going to reveal his first mock draft of this off season and he's going to do it exclusively for the first time on get up. So I was very happy about that. But I didn't really look at it ahead of time. They sent it to me, but I didn't look at it cause I figured I know what's there. Why was I wrong? Todd McShay has Trevor Laurence Going number one. That's obviously no surprise. The next quarterback he has going off the board is Zach Wilson from BYU at number four. And he has just infield. The Ohio State superstar going 15 to the Patriots, the third of five quarterbacks that he has going in round one. He also has trade lands and Mack Jones going and so what I always do When I look at these mock drafts. These guys don't know who's going to take where we usually take what you have to all of free agency to go through. Pay no attention. The team's outside of maybe number one and two. Just look at where these guys are slotted because guys like me, Shane know that McShay doesn't is not saying that because he's just throwing a dart. This is going to wind up being the consensus. All these guys look at the same data to look at the same film, and they tend to arrive for the most part at very similar conclusions. So Player in Justin Fields. Do I have spent the last two years thinking is going to maybe give Trevor Laurence a run for his money to being the number one pick in the draft. And if not, will certainly be the second quarterback taken in my co 23 or four overall. Has suddenly in the minds of one of the foremost people doing this falling all the way to the middle of the first round that that's now the range that McShay has him in. And that doesn't mean that that can't change. Obviously, Monday night is a huge night for that He gets one more game. So does Mack Jones. Actually, he's going head to head. These are both first round quarterbacks this year and both of them out. Assume can increase their stock with big performances. That Jones is on one of the highest flying offenses that you've ever seen in college football, So you'd expect him to have huge numbers. I don't think his I don't think the thinking on him is going to change almost regardless of what happens on Monday night. I think Justin Fields it can Fields if he didn't raise his stock in the eyes of people with the toughness that he showed on Friday night against Clemson that I don't know what he would have to do. I'll say it again. I love the kid. I love Justin Fields. I've never met him in my entire life. But I mean, I like him personally, I just think he's a sensational player. I'm very Tori and whether or not I want the Jets to take him at number two. So that's where I think that's what I think of him at number 15. I think it would be like you should make that pick like with a mask. It's such a steal. So I don't know, but I find that very surprising, So if he goes out there, they're going to need 50 points to win that game. You do not beat Alabama by scoring 30. I'm not even sure you beat them in scoring 40. If that gets into a shoot out a game that is a shootout. I think Alabama will comfortably score 40 points. You have got to score 45 to 50 points. I think to beat them. So if Justin Fields is going to do that, that's what he's gonna have to do on Monday night. And if he puts up 50 points and wins a championship. I just can't imagine He's not going to go ahead of Zach Wilson because he's also exactly the guy. That teams are going to talk themselves into. They're gonna fall in love with him. Have you ever looked at him? He's huge. He's huge. He is a was described on my show one time on TV as a Maura athletic that Prescott That sounds awful good to me that Prescott is tremendous and he's pretty athletic. Testing field is he's bigger, he's faster. So I think Justin feels to me and I'm not an analyst again. I don't watch every snap of every game. I don't pour over the film over and over and over again. I don't know the 40 times and all that kind of stuff, and so much of the evaluation is still to be done. Part of it. Where you kind of lose me is when the game's end. Not that interested in the cone drill. That to me. That's ridiculous. As Mike used to say all the time they don't put the bench press on the 50 yard line, So I watch these guys play you want. Justin feels play. I think he's great. And if he plays a big game on Monday night, I cannot believe he isn't going to at minimum, be the second pick in this draft. Whether he wants it going number two overall and again, the Jets have that pick. I think it's better for the Jets one way or the other. Whoever would be the number two. It would be the case if people do fall in love with fields because that just increases the value of the asset. Castle Village number one has an extraordinary asset. They're going to use it to take Trevor Laurence. But if they wanted to, they could trade it for everything. They could just like. Call up a team and say We'll take everyone and you can have the number one pick and every team in the league would do it. So that's the value of the asset. So I don't know Just how valuable the number two asset is. If there's this much question over who the second best quarterback is in this draft, we'll wait and see one way or another..

"They're times after the accident. When you go damn. Where'd that come from? All of a sudden, you've got a bruise or you know your shoulder neck. And that might be what happened because that was a collision. That was a car crash. Yeah, Club. Does this totally change everything we think about Justin Fields like now He's a Now He's a tough guy because he was really struggled the two weeks before right? You had talked about him being off. He had a great night. And if he has another great night If he beats Alabama, then I wonder. No, he's not going number one overall. Out out out out out, but would he go? Number two? I don't want to say it that way way we're gonna cut that out. What he what he go as the second pick in the draft? Yes, we club but it's unfair to judge a prospect by one game. Don't have to look at the body work. It seems silly. That one game could determine a draft spot. Are you new here? I know. I feel like that's what I'm wondering. Is that the way the media doesn't or do teams do it differently? I know we will not you that Sarah. Oh, no. The media No, not teams. Teams. Look at the body of work, right? Yeah. You can't go. Come on. That guy was really good in that one game. Let's draft him. I would think you would want to. That's why. When I was assessing Joe Burrow now assessing him through a source, I said as much credit as I want to give him for the greatest season a quarterback has ever turned in in college football history, in my opinion. I have to go back to the previous year. Where he was sort of pedestrian. And he went from being maybe 1/4 or fifth round pick to the number one pick overall. So somewhere in between was Joe Burrow, in my opinion. And then I realized, you know that since I was going to take him number one, and by all accounts, they made the right choice there. Yeah, I've been thinking about this a lot. The past come much which of the sports media hot takers is most likely to say? That Trevor Laurence should not be the one pick and blank quarterback should Someone's going to do that for attention because you know it's coming. If it hasn't already some analysts, some taker, they have to follow college football and a lot of these hot takers. Don't Cover. But that won't stop him from saying it on the show that Trevor Laurence should not be the number one pick. It should be field. That should be Wilson. Blank like It's gonna happen for attention. Ah, yeah. I don't want a handicap The hot takers here, But yes, Somebody will do that. But you know, I go back to what Kurt Herb Street said earlier in the year. I think he looked at Justin Fields as better or he would be better is a pro, then Trevor Laurence. So Herbie said that on our show months ago, Yeah, McLovin. Is it possible that all the you know the leaf Manning dynamic will be Jack Wilson, Justin Fields instead of Trevor Lord, so that we need a quarterback debate. There's always a quarterback today. Well, who's the second best quarterback is going to be the debate? Like who goes second behind Trevor Laurence, and you're the Jets take a quarterback. Um, into somebody trade up to get a quarterback. You have a club? I heard Keiper say someone could trip to to to take the left tackle out of Oregon, too. That's not out of out of school. Any school because maybe the quarterbacks go 345 instead of two. Well, that would be with the if I'm the Bangles..
