"Ralph northam remains it's governor. I wasn't sure whether it be more angry with cuomo's actions or with the democratic party because even though they've been flipped to call for his resignation. I remember virginia. Democrats were never willing to hold legislative hearings to investigate the claims. That you and meredith made about being sexually assaulted by fairfax now. Are you angry or my just matt on your behalf disappointed. But i've been following politics. Since i was at least three years old. So the reality is inap- kind of had a life long life of disappointment And so what i would say. Is that politicians regardless of any. You know whatever party they belong to our you know. Seek power and seek to maintain power So when the democrat. Legislators of virginia opted not to engage in hearings opted not to allow me and other women Who had suffered abuse at the hands of justin fairfax you know. It showed where their priorities were and it was extremely disappointing. It's disappointing now But i but again. I'm not surprised. I wish i were. I wanna sit with that for minute. your political science professor. You wear candidate for office. You've been as you point out since you were a very young child. Engaged in american democracy and elections and yet what you say in response is therefore. You're you're used to a lifetime of disappointment. What does that say when women and maybe particularly black women who form the core structure of democratic party see engaging in our democracy as setting ourselves up for a lifetime of disregard of our actual life experiences. Well i think if i if i had of marinated that one for too long i would be deeply deeply depressed so instead i try to focus on what. I can't do to help right because no matter what i've been through there's always someone else who had it worse. There is all also always going to be more women who have been victims of abuse. I mean more. Women and men who've been victims of you know various forms of emotional physical and sexual abuse including sexual harassment on at the workplace. So what i think about what. I try to focus on and i think this has been a a common trend amongst african american women right is that we have a bunch of people that we need to help. It's not just about us. We are connected. There is sisterhood. and in that sisterhood. It means that we don't necessarily always stand for ourselves at set. Were standing for all of us. I think about the democratic party. At times i certainly believe that. The democratic party takes lack of women for granted. I think that's a rather common phenomena. But i will say however is that as a black woman. I am not going to let my fellow sisters down. I am not going to let all of the black women and men who've been abused throughout their lifetimes in whatever way i'm not going to allow them to be let out so despite the shortcomings if you will of the democratic party as an institution i think it's important that is an individual stay involved and engaged in the democratic party but also right. Make sure that i stay true and authentic to who i am and stay true to the people who have been through so much pain and so much exploitation so that they know that they're not alone so i don't see it as a choice as much as i see my activism and advocacy and even my willingness to come forward under rather terrifying circumstances as a means to set an example at to try to help others know that. They're not alone. And i cannot help. But to think about the fact that joe biden as the head of the senate judiciary committee in the us senate also did not allow all of the women who had something to say about clarence thomas. He did not allow them to speak that. It took him decades decades to even acknowledge publicly into apologize to anita hill. And that in this moment. When i hear him as president call on andrew cuomo to resign. I gotta say. I keep wondering if anyone cares when black women are the ones who are assaulted and abused or if our political system is simply willing to take us as collateral damage what i would say. Is that black women throughout the history of this country have always been collateral. But i would add to that black children and and black men and as a consequence what happens is that we're put in this weird kind of situation of trying to survive amidst this palpable oppression. Right help us to think about this moment with Governor cuomo are there things that are not on the agenda in our public conversation right now that need to be. It seems like we're only recently talking about systemic racism. You know it's coming up in. Of course there's plenty of backlash and so on but what i want to think about is systemic abuse And how powerful people either not only abuse others and use their power as a means to abuse others used their power as a means to further frighten and intimidate those that. They've abused right. Which i have personally been the recipient of i also want to think about how our systems and structures allow for abuse to continue and perpetuate and really what does it take for institutions to have the actual courage to reflect upon how they might how they contribute to abuse that shapes our that.

Virginia's gubernatorial seat in a distant fifth-place with less than four percent of the vote. Justin fairfax the state's lieutenant governor. It's a stark turnaround of electoral outcomes for fairfax just four. Years ago. When he ran for lieutenant governor. Fairfax won the endorsement of the washington post who described him as quote a bright competent well-versed former federal prosecutor turned corporate attorney. Indeed and twenty nine thousand nine. Fairfax nearly ascended to the top spot in the commonwealth. When governor ralph northam became embroiled in racial scandal after his nineteen eighty-four medical school yearbook photo was unearthed. Showing northam dressed either in black face or as a member of the kkk. North said he could not remember which of the two races costumes. he'd worn that night in language. Similar to what. We heard this week as party. Leaders called for a motive step down. Democrats demanded north resignation. This is what it sounded like in february twenty nineteen. He's lost authority to govern. He cast resign isn't the best interest of the commonwealth is in the best interest of the party. The good news is though is that there is a zero tolerance and people do understand and he needs to resign immediately to stop the pain in virginia and frankly around the nation. The governor of virginia should resign. it's completely unacceptable. I'm sure he's lost. The confidence of the people virginia. And i've been very clear as pressure mounted it seemed north and was out and that he would be replaced by the young african american. Lieutenant governor justin fairfax it. Wasn't that context when the nation met someone. I have known for decades vanessa. Tyson is her name. she says. Lieutenant governor justin. Fairfax assaulted her in two thousand and four now he categorically denies these allegations. The nisa tyson is a professor of political science at scripts college in southern california. I i met vanessa more than twenty years ago having graduated from princeton university with an award-winning senior thesis. She came to the university of chicago to earn a phd in political science. And i'd just begun working as an assistant professor in the department at u chicago vanessa's keen intellect generosity of spirit and deep commitment to racial and gender justice were readily apparent this week. She sat down with me here on the takeaway to discuss the news about governor andrew cuomo and to reflect on her own very public journey over the past several years. I asked how she felt. When she first learned about the new york attorney general's report detailing. Governor cuomo is pattern of sexually harassing women with whom he worked. I mean i wish. I could say i was surprised but the reality is that i'm not. The abuse of power tends to be rampant in our society particularly political power but you know we see abuses across every industry within families within communities and so on. so now i'm not surprised. I asked her to remember back. Twenty nineteen when she first learned about the racist photo scandal. That threatened to unseat. Virginia's governor some of my friends in virginia had told me that it was very likely that governor ralph northam was spine to step down and that my rapist had been would was going to get promoted. And i remember i was actually at a conference and it was a hotel room and i was just. It was a saturday morning. And i was crying in the shower right just sobbing in the show because it seemed so unfair. I had tried to come forward before he was before. Lieutenant governor justin. Fairfax was sworn in. That didn't stop anything. And now it looks like he was going to become governor and i was just horrified. Professor tyson's distress about the possibility of fairfax ascendance was heightened because she had disclosed the alleged assault before two thousand nineteen. I two close friends and later in two thousand seventeen to the washington post. What's interesting is that. I actually tried to come forward in two thousand seventeen and this is fairly well documented. I spend december twenty seventeen before justin fairfax became. Lieutenant governor virginia but had already been elected. I spoke with the washington post on multiple multiple occasions. About what had happened between him and myself in a hotel room in boston during the democratic convention party convention the dnc of two thousand four. And you know. I i did my best to explain to them. What happened for three. And a half months we went back and forth you know and then the washington post decided to can't can the story for lack of a better term according to the washington post quote. The post did not run a story at the time. Because it could not corroborate tyson's account or find similar complaints of sexual misconduct unquote. But this time in two thousand nineteen. There was another account of fairfax as an abuser. Meredith watson classmate of mr fairfax publicly alleged that the lieutenant governor sexually assaulted her in two thousand when they were both college students. At duke university. Watson told her story to gayle king. On cbs scorning. He did things that you shouldn't do to someone without their permission. And i tried several times to get up and leave. Push back down. "Gubernatorial election. Republicans air holding a statewide convention tomorrow, they'll choose their candidate, although many in the party didn't even want that convention to happen. What's better, a primary or a convention? That's been a point of debate within the Republican Party for many years, Rich Anderson, who chairs Virginia's Republican Party, says, while a primary would likely draw hundreds of thousands of voters, tomorrow's good Invention will include just tens of thousands who've been certified as delegates, he says. For that reason, he'd prefer a primary. But there's also a number of people who want to sure that Bonified Republicans gather plus in the convention. A candidate can't win unless they have more than 50% of the votes, Anderson says. Ideally, that makes it easier to unite the party around the winner. Nick I. Nelly w T O P News. "Walters, your husband's company. Good morning. Good morning to our next guest who is a candidate for lieutenant governor in the Commonwealth of Virginia, Head of the Republican Convention set to take place tomorrow. Winston Serious joins us. Good morning wisdom. Good morning. Good morning. Good morning, so good to be on your show. It's really great to have you with us. I I'm interested in I I see that you Virginia pilot quotes you as saying that you think that there are some politicians specifically in Virginia that benefit when citizens are at each other's throats that they're crewing political power unto themselves by making people fight With one another. How would you be different? Should you become the lieutenant governor? Because that's not the way I roll. I am trying to be a true servant leader. You know, I'm from Jamaica and I see what happens when people get power and too much power. When I was in office because I am the first black Republican woman ever elected to the General Assembly, and so I tried to be a servant leader. I tried toe ensure that the citizens Of the 90th district, which I represented parts of Chesapeake, Norfolk and Virginia Beach. I wanted them to understand that the power that I had comes from them. That they have the power. The seat does not belong to me, and when I'm no longer there that they should always demand of their leaders through servant leadership, So that's what I modeled when I was there. As we've been talking to different candidates throughout this process leading up to the GOP convention tomorrow, lot of we've had a lot of discussions about schools, but you are very specific. You want school choice in Virginia as a way to combat this indoctrination, give parents a choice. So instead of having to constantly fight and have these kids subjected to things that they don't want you said, give them the choice. How would you do that in Virginia? Yeah, you know, um, one of the things that the Democrats like to tell us is that they love everybody more than the Republicans ever could. And yet, what I see from them. Their love is poisonous. For example, you see what's happening at Thomas Jefferson High School where 73% of the population of that school is Asian, and so instead of us asking What are the Asian parents doing? What air the Asian kids doing that causes them to be selling so much? No. Instead where, Uh, we're dumbing down by saying we're going to keep some of these kids out these Asian kids. And then we're gonna institute quotas so that we can bring other kids in. And so we think that this is going to make everything better. So I'm saying if we had had full choice Then all of this nonsense would have gone away because you see, the parents would have been able to decide, especially those who don't have the resource is would have been able to decide. I'm going to take my kids somewhere else. I'm going to take the money. Somewhere else so that they don't have to be subjected to this nonsense And so they can excel in life. And it's the same thing with critical race theory. You know, I was vice president of the State Board of Education and Let me tell you something. The kids weren't learning. Then they're not learning now, and they're really not learning now because of province. And we already know. For example, in Fairfax, Our kids are failing. I can tell you in Chesterfield, one out of six high school students are failing. They're just failing all around, and so You know this cove, it is so is so smart. It does not affect private schools, apparently because private schools have been open five days a week all year long. So there's something wrong there and we need to be able to have the money. Follow the child instead of the money being given to the brick building over there. Yeah, maybe with those private schools Cove it is on the waiting list. Just like everybody else I can't get. It s so winsome steers. I want to ask you about your running for lieutenant governor. I wanna ask you about the current lieutenant governor, Justin Fairfax. You know he's running for governor. He made some news recently when he compared himself to George Floyd and Emmett till during a Democrat gubernatorial debate, suggesting that several women who had accused him of sexual assault on that made him basically the same as Emmett Till as as a black woman hearing this What did you think of Justin Fairfax taking that position? Please, please. What you're hearing is a drowning man who was trying to save his political career. And you know you ought to be making those choices before you take certain actions not trying to associate yourself with through injustice. And many of us black. Uh people were very much offended by it, whether we're Republicans or Democrats. He needs to go home and figure out what he's going to do with his life because of decisions that he's made. And you know, and stop this trying to curry favor. We don't want that kind of leadership here. We've already had black face. Um North, um, with his incident and fantasized views, and we've already had blackface, Harry. They all need to go home and figure out the choices of May. We need some different leadership here. This critical race theory, for example. That their past that they have passed and which is now supposedly to help people who look like me. US black folks, You know, it's It's a farce. The kids aren't learning. Do we really have time to teach reading? Writing and racism? You know China is going to eat our lunch, Vince. It is going to they're going to either life. They are scheduled China to be the number one superpower in 2030. Do you know they have more honor students than we even have students and we have to have time to teach. That all white kids and all white people are bad and everybody else is good. What is that going to do for the morale in the school? You know you just you brought up the three R's and I was so interesting. They've suddenly changed to reading writing and racism. You're totally right. Thank you. Winston Sears. Good luck this weekend, a part of that GOP convention running for lieutenant. Governor. Thanks so much for joining us. Thank you. Thank you. All right, 6 44. "Example of disparities in our society Have so many things to say this statement. It is a part of. What was a pattern It as fairfax the victim and i. I don't think that did him any good by the way. It is the case that mcculloch of all the people on that stage have probably benefited from the rules. Formal and informal of society more than anybody else. But i don't know that. Fairfax lands the critique as as well as it could be landed because again he is under accusations that he's not been able to get out from under yet that fit into a larger clash in society and so he can't at the same time been claimed to be a victim and then try to land a punch on. Call us for being. You know the white guy who's benefited from all of the benefits of society. And so. I just don't know that it landed in. I walked away from the debate. Thinking justin fairfax can't win this race by being the victim. And that's what he essentially did in the debate yet and fairfax taking time. The one minute that he has to respond to just wine for thirty seconds didn't do him any services if any politician has been paying attention at least since two thousand sixteen. The response is not to whine about the front runner. Taking advantage of the moderators. If that's what they're doing it's to do it yourself right so if you're complaining that somebody is going over sixty seconds you should also go over sixty seconds and make the moderator stop you without someone who sometimes moderates these things. I'm going to disagree with you. Thomas candidates are listening. Please do not do that. Do not take that advice So now we heard. Carol roy talk about how difficult it was. Sit around the kitchen table. And her hours were cut and her husband lost one of her jobs and so she's struggling during the pandemic. We also heard delegate lee carter talk about collecting unemployment insurance. This is what he said. I'm one of those virginians. It's still waiting for an answer from the employment commission. you know. my second job is lift driver. Because the general assembly doesn't pay enough to make ends meet and so obviously gig workers were eligible for p. Ua from the start this pandemic and they told me i was eligible and then they gave me a single check for one hundred and fifty eight hours. No more answered. No more reason for why that stopped. So i m right there with the hundreds of thousands of virginians who are waiting for an answer for the virginia employment commission and i think that their performance. It's understandable that they've been overwhelmed but it is unacceptable that here we are year later and people still don't have a reason why they're not being paid. This kind of personal story is so rare in politics to hear a statewide candidate talk about collecting unemployment insurance and having a hard time with the employment commission. Quinn kid what do we make this story. And this is going to work with voters. Well again i think this is. Why a leak are i think. He's of all the people on that stage during the debate. He is the one who can relate to voters where they are vote. Many voters where many voters are because many voters are in the same situation. And you know when he said that there was a name that popped into my head that anyone who follows virginia politics. Remember melanie rabb. When she was in the house of delegates. She was a substitute teacher and so she relied on her house. Delegates income much more than most any other delegate did in lee carter is essentially in that same position in and so again. I don't know that leak. Arctic can overcome his lack of resources lack of name recognition around the state. But i think the more people hear lee carter the better position. Carter is in yeah. I'd agree with that. Carter has an extraordinarily powerful story and he brings up issues that nobody else has talking about. That are extremely important and regarding unemployment. There's not a single democrat who went to the mat for strengthening unemployment benefits and any budget session prior to covid and the fact that nobody in the virginia legislature is even thinking about strengthening. Our social safety nets tells us tells voters that we don't have good representation among working class virginians in the legislature. So the more he talks about this stuff. The more that average virginia will identify with him. And i realize he is a fun punching bag for a lot of the democratic establishment. But the reality is terry mcauliffe is going to be the he absolutely needs to listen to every word. Lee carter says and implement everything he can. Well clinton kids thank you so much for joining us any other thoughts you have about the state of the primary or what. We learned in this first televised debate. Yeah i would just say. Look at the end of the day. The candidates came in positioned left debate in the same order of positioning as they came into the debate. I don't think terry mcauliffe. He's the leader right now which everything seems to point that direction. I don't think anything happened to make him. Not the leader going out. Min- to thomas point. They're just a minute ago. I do think terry mcauliffe end. Probably the other candidates on that stage are gonna be moving toward. Lee harbors positions on some issues as we go forward and that's what makes him valuable voice In this field. But but i think at the end of the day. This is the first debate. There are several others to come. I think terry mcauliffe came out of the debate in the same position. He came into the debate. Let's see if that position changes as we have the next several debates. "Emmett. Till and george. Floyd i tell you. I think this was the moment of the debate. I i was stunned. When justin fairfax made that statement it runs against so many waves in our politics right now. The idea that he's accused of sexual assault in yet. He's going to push back on that and try to couch himself as a victim in a guys george florida emmett till it really was astonished. And he's been pilloried. All over social media at one of his. Accusers came out of right after the debate instead. It wasn't a false accusation. I'm not ashamed. She said i'm not ashamed of bringing to light what happened to me etc so i don't know what that got him. It didn't get him sympathy. We talking about him. I mean like he did get the buzz around surrounding that comment right yet. But i don't know that it's the right kind of buzz. I think when you're in a position of being not the front runner in a five person field. I don't know that it's the right kind of buzz in so i don't know that it does you many good. I think he could have said. I've been a victim without going so far as to equate his situation with george floyd emmett till in maybe have gotten the same point across without the gobsmacked response that seems to have seen that he seems to have gotten. Yeah this moment from fairfax really gave me brett kavanagh vibes where he just completely defied any reasonable sense of good decorum and you know. Obviously emit till a george floyd. They were horribly murdered. And the fact that fairfax is still alive makes it a false comparison period. Fairfax of course is accused of being a rapist. I would point out. The washington post did not exonerate him. They pointed out some discrepancies in the stories. That did not exonerate justin fairfax. So there's a lot of misinformation here. I expect more to come. Just from fallout. He's really defying. The thought that all press is good. Press not in this case would delegate. Lee harder took a broader approach to attacking mccullough by lumping in with all of the candidates on the stage during a discussion of legalizing marijuana. I introduced legislation to legalise cannabis in the commonwealth of virginia back. When even some of the other candidates on this stage asked me. Why are you doing this to us an election year. The carter has also called for using the tax revenue from taxing marijuana to create a fund for reparations to account for the transatlantic slave trade and jim crow of delegate. Carter's position on marijuana and reparations as essentially an attack on mcculloch yet. So i thought the whole discussion about legalization of marijuana was interesting because everybody was tripping over everybody else trying to claim that they were first in line to support this legislation or first in line to try to you submit legislation etc. Lee carter in all fairness is probably the most politically liberal. I mean. he's a democratic socialist. He probably is the most left on stage but he standing on a stage with two african american women in african american man and a former governor. Who did things that african american voters really supported Voting reforms and things like that and so as the other white guy onstage. He he probably needed to distance himself from the rest of the candidates and he did it. I thought in an interesting way by linking marijuana legalization in the reform of marijuana laws with reparations in jim crow the jim crow history in virginia and so it was an interesting point. I don't know that it gets him much in the context of an attack on mcauliffe. But it's an interesting collection of thoughts and ideas put together in that piece there. The other really big attack on mccullough was about this controversy surrounding the parole board now. Republicans have already signaled. This will be one of their major attack. Lines this senator. Mcclellan used the issue as an attack on mcculloch. Governor collins had an opportunity to put more money in place for the parole board. Unfortunately he didn't. Is this parole board controversy. Something that will work as a line of attack on mcauliffe it it very well could it. Certainly the republicans have like you said signaled that this is gonna be a big issue for them. And i think it's going to be a part of a larger kind of criminal justice crime issue that That seems to be shaping up on the republican side and and mcculloch you know the fact that mcauliffe appointed the parole board chair on when he was governor does lead him to this controversy. Even if the controversy itself wasn't under his watch and so. I do think he's gonna have to respond this. I think it respond to like he did. He'll say hey. I wasn't there when this happened. And he may just brush it off. But i think he's going to have to deal with it in the fall. Republicans are going to are going to try to hang on this issue all over him and make him drag it around the entire campaign if he's the democratic comedy. Yeah there's no doubt that the republicans are going to bring it up. I don't really think too. Many democrats are going to bring it up outside of the context of these pot shots but the reality is nobody votes on the parole board. It's such like nobody knows how it works. We don't really have parole in virginia. Anyway it's it's limited to people who are incarcerated before a certain point in time we got rid of parole so like the reality is as controversial as this may be one. This is.

"Only two months away. So how does this field of candidates shape up. And what will they do if elected. Who's ahead and who's behind to help us understand. This primary were joined by the one and only dean of the college social sciences at christopher newport university ease the academic director of the judy ford watson center for public policy. And he's one of the sharpest observers in virginia quinton. Kid thanks for joining us. It's really great to be with you. Great so during the first televised debate in the primary this week terry mcauliffe was the only person on the stage with the title of former governor and he was also the person who had the biggest target on his back. All the candidates seemed really eager to take a shot at the perceived frontrunner runner this race i out of the gate was former delegate. Jennifer carroll who said mcauliffe was not serious about addressing gun violence the reason we have in curb gun. Violence isn't because we don't know how to do it. It is because we have politicians failing to act. And when terry mcauliffe had opportunity as governor to be serious about gun violence he did a back room deal with the nra. Undermining concealed weapons laws in virginia. Making us all less safe. She's talking about two thousand and sixteen deal where the governor used. From attorney general mark harrying to sever reciprocity rights of gun owners in thousand five states as leverage to cut a deal in exchange virginia. Got to take guns away from anyone. Under a two year. Protective order for domestic violence offenses and state police would have attend. All gun. shows to provide background checks. Here's the governor responding to carrol foy and check out how he hopes sender jennifer mcclellan throws him a lifeline. That bill she refers to was a bipartisan bill. Senator mcclellan helped me on it as it was a bipartisan bill. Bring folks together. It was the toughest domestic violence bill in the united states of america. Now you have mclovin. There are saying no as in. Don't bring me into this. What do we make this exchange between the candidates. Well you know. I cannot help but go back to turn. Mcauliffe's i run for governor and much the issue of guns and gun control has moved in virginia politics. You know. the first time he ran there had never bad candidate democratic or republican candidate in virginia to run in essentially proudly run as a gun control candidate and he mccall's mentioned this in the debate but none of the other democrats would touch the issue of gun control and they were all sort of leery of past elections where they had even hinted at the idea of gun control in. It'd cost them in. So mccall runs on gun control or touted And people say oh. That's a death sentence. Any wins fast forward to this election cycle and all of the candidates on stage are not only running on gun control but they're pushing mcauliffe on the issue of gun control. I just i think that issue alone speaks to how far virginia politics has moved in last ten years in its in. Its a phenomenal movement. If you wanna think about transitions in in politics it's just a phenomenal movement. Now there was this interesting exchange there between mcclellan and mccullough and it wasn't the only one later on the discussion of guns included another weird moment. Mccullough was listing his agenda on guns banning assault weapons banning high capacity magazines banning ghost guns and allowing local governments to ban guns at permited events. Then mcauliffe said this about mcclellan and is governor ida right wing legislature. I think senator mcclellan. You're with me on a lot of these battles thank you right wing legislature. We had veto bill after bill. After bill none of them got through. And i you senator senator. I was proud to work to address gun violence and once in two thousand twenty we were able to pass about seven bills to address gun violence including giving local governments the ability to ban weapons at permanent events. We could have gone far though the once again mcclellan is forced to say. Don't drag me into this and she adds also what are the things on. Your agenda is something. We've kind of already done quinton kid. What do we make this. Dynamic between mcauliffe and mcclellan. Yes so. I think mcauliffe is clearly the front runner in the race right now and i think he sees mcclellan as either one of two things either. His greatest rival as we go down the stretch into the democratic primary voting in early june. He sees her as either his greatest rival or and probably it's both of these or or they're in the same lane and so they're competing for the same set of voters. And so i think the caller strategy here is to essentially reduced the space between them as much as possible so that a mcclellan leaning voter right now may say will mcauliffe is in the lead. He's most likely to win. So i'm gonna go ahead and give mcauliffe my vote in so that may be the strategy that he's pursuing by essentially pulling her very closely in know. I think it is fair to say that you know mcclellan a work closely with mcauliffe as governor there in the same lane politically and ideologically very much alike. And so it's interesting to watch the dynamic between those two because it's a different dynamic than say the dynamic between a mcauliffe in any of the other candidates fairfax or carrefour for example. It's a different dynamic. Because i think they're really struggling to attract the same set of voters yet speaking about that dynamic clinton kid. Is there any ice between these. Two candidates few years ago terry mcauliffe and jennifer mcclellan to pod right they were very close as you mentioned very ideologically aligned and of course jennifer mccollum gets in before terry announces that he's running again. Although it telegraphed for quite some time as ice between these two candidates now is that one thing that we should be looking into or is this electioneering. I think it's more electioneering like like. I think there's ice between fairfax and and mccollough for example. But i don't know that there's ice between mcclellan Mcauliffe as much as there is political rivalry the sense. That sort of your time has passed mcauliffe. It's time to give others the opportunity. You know that sort of political posturing. I don't get bad blood But you know to be fair it neither mccullough for mcclellan are the kind of personalities that are gonna exhibit put on public display bad blood in so i think of this more is not a friendly rivalry. I think it's a serious disagreement on about who's time it is to run into into be governor but i don't think it's deep more deeply personal than that. I don't get the sense that it is anyway. Fairfax accusers break silence in Gayle King interviews

"About Justin Fairfax for Lieutenant governor of Virginia. Although all of the top three Democrats in the Commonwealth have weathered their respective political scandals the heat, we'll get turned up just a little bit more this morning on Justin. Fairfax as one of his accusers Vanessa Tyson takes to the airwaves on CBS this morning. That's right. The morning show. Gayle king doing an interview with Vanessa Tyson today tomorrow accuser, Meredith Watson, we'll have her say as she joins. Gayle king for yet. Another interview on CBS this morning, a sustained assault on Justin Fairfax in his credibility as he has tried to get past the scandal of sexual abuse allegations by both women, very interesting turn of events. Gayle king being the one to interview interview them in bring this back to life resurrecting, so far the media has. Done a yeoman's job of ignoring this and putting it on the back burner and covering it up and nothing to see here. Keep moving keep moving because that's what they do. They do that for the Democrats if it were Republican, he wouldn't even we wouldn't even be having this discussion because he would have been gone a long time ago would have been done. This is almost like a slow. This is slow burn here. And Gayle king turning the heat up. I am shocked at this shouldn't so surprised. Why why do you think she's doing this? I just think I don't know. I don't know what the answer to that is. I did see some conservatives who were happy to see that a mainstream outlet like CBS would be willing to give airtime to the accusations. When it seemed like they had survived it meaning that Justin Fairfax had gotten past it nominally. But here you have CBS and Gayle king trying to do their part. Let's see let's let's withhold judgment until we see how these interviews are actually conductive, but here's a little bit. That CBS has released of the Vanessa Tyson interview ahead of the head of the actual broadcast. Particularly for survivors. I think this is incredibly important they need to be heard. We need to be seen. Right. And we need to be treated as the human beings that we are Vanessa Tyson. She was the one who allege that Fairfax had assaulted her at the democratic national convention in Boston in two thousand four this the famous convention where President Obama I made himself gave himself a national profile in that big speech. She came forward in February and is in contact with Suffolk County district attorney invest Suffolk County district attorney in Boston to explore legal options. She wants to testify before the Virginia general assembly and she wants just in Fairfax to resign. I'm curious about this. Like, what does she know? What what is the thing that would satisfy her resignation from public office or that he never hold a job ever? May. What is the thing that she wants? I think some kind of acknowledgement that she actually existed. Is making these accusations because it's like the Keith Ellison story weighing we've carry Monahan, she was begging for someone to take her seriously, and nobody did and the media ignored her and she was ignored yet. Christine Blasi Ford was front and center with all of her accusations from how many years ago thirty some odd years ago being treated as if they were gospel. So I think that these women feel that wait a minute. You're telling me about hashtag me to that. All women are to be believed. But not me why not me. And I think that's what you're seeing. Here is these women want to believe too. If if it's all women will be believed. And that's what you've told us. The the realization that it's only some women who will be believed. I think is pretty startling and hurtful. If you're in the situation, and so that's what they want. They want. They want their voices heard. That's why. Well, Fairfax for his part says that their encounter was consensual when this all happened in two thousand four that wasn't forced oral sex as she

Just When You Thought Virginia Politics Could Not Get Worse...

"Just when you thought it couldn't get any weirder. And shadier in the Commonwealth of Virginia it does. And it did. Now, the Lieutenant governor of Virginia is facing sex assault charges. Not not not being brought, but allegations of sexual assault having been perpetrated on a young woman who was was somebody who was sort of connected in with with democratic politics democrat party politics. And there's a lot of question now about the pathway forward here. Fresh off of what we've seen happen over in the Virginia governor's drama the governor itself. We saw the racist insensitive. Awful photograph of somebody in black bass and a Klan robe in this guys. In. This guy's medical school yearbook. Coming on the heels of his call to do partial birth abortions post, birth abortions. Additionally, we find out that the source for a lot of what we saw come out with regarding north picture was ready for this. You're ready and goes a medical school student who was with him in medical school who was aware of the yearbook and decided to release it because they were so offended by the position he staked out with Kathy TRAN. That he would be okay with post birth abortions, essentially, and that's where the punishment. Started out with north them. Then we saw the pictures. We heard him say that was me, then we heard him say, no, I only maybe showed up in black face a little bit once and that was in San Antonio at a dance contest. When I was trying to be Michael Jackson. I can even moonwalk if you wanna see me in his wife made him stop. This guy's not resigning. And I don't think he's going to resign Virginia's one you cannot serve more than one consecutive. In other words, you can be the governor more than once, but you have to sit it out for a series of years. So you can run for one four year term. Then you must sit it out then you may run again for one for your tub. So it's basically a one term thing he gets elected in two thousand seventeen he's not due to come up again until two thousand twenty twenty twenty one and he'll he's damaged as he's as damaged as you can be right now, I don't know that he's going to get made better. If he quits in his mind, I think that's what he's saying. I'm not going to be forgiven. I'm going to be pilloried. If I leave I'm going to be a punchline, I'm going to be the butt of jokes. So I'm going to ride it out and stay in as governor that says mentality. That's what he's saying. Now, the Virginia Lieutenant governor Justin Fairfax issued a statement early today denying a sexual assault allegation that appeared on the same conservative website that posted a racist. Photogr? Graf from north medical school yearbook. Lieutenant governor Fairfax has an outstanding and well earned reputation for treating people with respect and dignity. Read the statement from his chief of staff Yati Yati Yati, we come to find out though that a woman approached the Washington Post after Fairfax won election in November twenty seventeen and before he was inaugurated in January twenty eighteen saying she felt like she had an obligation to speak out the woman and Fairfax I met in Boston at the two thousand four democratic national convention. You'll remember that was the very famous convention that Barack Hussein Obama had his coming out speech when he came out to the country and people said, oh, this is going to be a great guy. No run America's throat. Oh, bloomberg. There are only United States of America during conversation. The to realize they had a mutual friend. It was that commonality she require she recalled that put her at ease enough on that afternoon that Fairfax asked her to walk with him to his hotel room to pick up some papers. She thought nothing of joining a big big mistake, according to this woman's testimony, Fairfax and the woman told different stories of what happened in the hotel room. And no one was present the Washington Post could not find anyone who could corroborate. Either version the post did not find significant red flags and inconsistencies in the allegations. Essentially the woman describes a sexual encounter that began with consensual kissing and ended essentially with a forced oral copulation act. I know we've got kids driving around with our parents. So we want to keep that is above board as possible. She said that's what he did to her that was the assault. And that is a problem obviously post reached out to the woman again on Monday. She's now hired a lawyer. You think it's going to be? Gloria. Or is it gonna be have an ATI Gloria, Gloria, Gloria? Later on Monday. Fairfax spoke to reporters at the state capitol in Richmond. And again said the encounter was consensual. Now. I don't know what the order of succession is in the state politics. Like, I don't know if it goes to the speaker of the house, I don't know if the speaker that house is a Republican. But here's the thing. There's no way north is going to give up that seat. And then have that seat go to Fairfax? Who's going to end up giving it up, and maybe ends up in the hands of the of the Republicans. These are political animals writ large, ladies and gentlemen. So here's the question for you to consider this hour number one. Have we learned nothing if we have not learned from crazy maisy, Geraldo and company that you always believe the accuser number two should north resign. Number three. Should Fairfax resign? Number four. Do you care about this story seriously? Is the original underlying offense? The offense of calling for infanticide. Is that the original sin here that has to be dealt
