"Think Cole beat Bryant can cover Beasley better than he can cover. I agree. Because Brian's more technique, he's more football IQ all of that. Like Mackenzie's just faster than him. That's right. You could tell him what McKenzie's route is. He just can't keep up with him. Yeah. So if the bills are going to go back to Cole beats, like if I'm the Patriots I want Cole Beasley out there. Now, if they go to his name, McKenzie, I don't know that D'angelo Ross can keep up with him. But we know miles Brian can't. So then maybe you make that switch and then so this is where the outside corner comes in. They have to start with you on Williams because he's the only other outside corner on the roster right now. In fact, this is how many times in the training camp. I was yelling about it, leading into the draft that they didn't have enough corners. Oh, they got Gilmore, they got Jackson. Yeah. No, they'd never. Even if stiff on Gilmore had stayed, they didn't have enough outside corners. So I feel like you have to start with him. I don't feel great about it. I don't feel great about it. I don't know how you can. So and again, it's the playoffs. These guys have to have a quick leash. Well, where do you go from there? And there's no great option. But if we lay them out, right? If we take a look and I just want to pull the roster up here to make sure I don't miss anybody. But if you lay out the options, I think after juwan Williams, your best option might be to move Devin mccordy up. Oh gosh. And I know that's not what anybody wants to do. But they've done it in the past. They haven't done it in a long time. But when they really need an outside corner because remember to have McCourty was originally a corner, they've folds them up to be that second outside corner. Now, you're getting really into potential snowballing here because what if Kyle duggar can't play? Right. Now you're down two safeties instead of one. So that's probably their best option on paper just like in a bubble, but I don't know how realistic it is to pull Devin mccordy up. All right, so what's next? Well, miles Bryant was an outside corner in college. No. He's been playing the slot in safety in the NFL. Dave is a big guy. He has the technique, so right, so that's why Moscow moved inside. He's fine. Okay, so I know you're knowing. I'm giving you the options. I'm giving you the options. Now all these options, please give me a good. You're not moving Devin McCourty, you're not moving miles Brian. I guess actually what should have been the top option after Juan Williams. You can put Justin bethel out there. He's played outside corner a little bit this year. He looked good and camped. They've said they want him to do it more than he has. He's on the bigger side, and then after that, I mean, now you're talking about DJ Daniel, who's who you're elevating from the practice squad who's never played an NFL game. Who just got here this week..

"To me is a Paramount importance in this game. They have to get turnovers for the bills. They have to win the turnover margin. So just to counter to that, are you at all concerned about Jalen mills and Sean wade who are on the COVID list? Just in the sense that even if they are active, maybe that they've missed some reps, conditioning? Is that all something you factor in when you look at defensive backs trying to throw that wrinkle curve ball? I don't think so. I think whatever you have, you go with. Justin bethel, Cody Davis, special teamers out there like whatever. Give me more speed, give me guys who can tackle which the special team guys can do and I worry about sort of matchups later. Okay. So we'll keep an eye on those things. As of this morning, those updates on wade and Jalen mills for the Patriots. So before we keep going, you mentioned the weather. I think it's worth bringing up. It's going to be really, really cold. And you mentioned, you mentioned how it could be, of course, don't turn the ball over from a Mac Jones standpoint, but you said in our pre show discussion about how it could be tricky. What do you mean by that? In the sense that you feel that to generate any kind of passing game, you find that worrisome because of how cold it's going to be. Yeah, I just think you want you don't know look, we still don't have the answer on whether Mac Jones can play in these type of conditions. I mean, you know, I don't think he's been great the cold or it's been. So, you know, can you count on Mac Jones, making plays through the air not turning the ball over? You know, how's the ball going to come out? I could tell you that whatever they will be watching, the coaches will be watching and they did this, they do this every game, but especially when weather conditions are important. They will watch Mac Jones intently in pregame warmups. Basically, they watch them in the first buffalo game, terrible wind conditions. We know that. But they watch Mac Jones in the warm ups and we're like, we can't throw the ball or we can only throw the ball with the wind. That's the only thing that we can do. He's not powering the ball. It was not going well. So they will watch him in warm ups. See, how is the ball coming out of his hands? How does our arm look? Is it loose? Is it free? Is it going to be cold? And then, you know, the football just gets harder, you know, in those conditions. So even the running game, ball security is going to be Paramount. The Patriots at running back have done a really nice job. For the most part, the last since about week four, they've done a really nice job in that regard. And the bills can get a little loose with the ball. That's Allen and the running backs. So to me, that's an advantage for the Patriots, but you really got to gauge Mac Jones in this weather. I'm not optimistic on him being excelling in these conditions. So the Patriots are.

"Three weeks ago, the New England Patriots were two and four and a lot of people had written them off. But now, the paths are on a roll. Intercepted. Touchdown New England. So when I look at it, I'm saying, I can't sleep on New England. I think people are sleeping on the New England Patriots. Today, the athletics Matthew fairburn on how the Pats have put together a three game win streak. And why the balance of power in their division might be shifting. Plus why Bill Belichick is apparently a lot funnier than you might think. You need to have a thick skin to play for the guy, but he's willing to take it as much as he's willing to dish it. And the right types of guys can handle it. From wondering in the athletic, I'm Tiffany ocean Shinsuke. It's Tuesday, November 9th, and this is the lead. Well, hi Matthew, welcome back to the show. Oh, thanks so much for having me. I believe the last time you were on the lead, it was to talk about the Buffalo Bills. The team used to cover for the athletic. What's it been like to switch from covering the bills to covering the paths, especially in terms of fan reactions to your writing? There are certainly some differences, all right? I mean, Bill Belichick in the New England Patriots, they run a tight ship. It's not easy to get information out of these guys. And, you know, certainly the COVID restrictions that are still in place with press conference settings, no open locker room has been a bit of a challenge. I think some skeptical people in New England that, you know, somebody who covered the bills now is going to be covering the Patriots, but it has been interesting to transition into this era of New England Patriots football and cover this next chapter as they try to figure out who they are without Tom Brady. We're going to get into Bill Belichick being funny, but are his press conferences exactly what they seem where he's just super stoic and kind of deadpan? Or is there a little more to it that we just don't know about? There's actually more to it to be honest. Really? Wednesday's very much are what you've been told with the short answers. The running game with the 8 carries for the minus one. How much of a concern is that for you? Yeah. We've got to do better. It's obvious. And Fridays have been sort of this great time to get him to expand on things if you ask him the right question at the right time when he's in the right mood. He spoke for 8 minutes about long snappers. What? When I came into the league, there were no long snappers. But the specialist, the kickers and the punters were frequently positioned players. Well, I think he likes the zoom setting. It seems to me that he likes kind of having that distance and going on about what interests him. He really loves the history of the game. As time of all, you know, starting with Google ack and guys like that. They specialized in kicking and then you had some of the punters that specialized in punters. So players like Danny white and Tom topa and guys like but honestly, he's pretty expansive and thoughtful in the right setting and when he's asked the right question. So moving on, as we mentioned, the Pats have won three in a row in our now 5 and four. It's actually the first time they've been above 500 since week three of the 2020 season. And Matthew, we wanted to pick your brain about what's been going right for New England. So let's start with their 24 to 6 win over Carolina on Sunday. What stood out to you about their performance in that game? The defense. And throws it away. Sam darnold against Bill Belichick is just not a good matchup for Sam darnold. They ended up with three interceptions of darnold. They batted four of his passes at the line of scrimmage. They had 34 net yards of offense on those first 7 possessions. The line of scrim. The play that probably broke the game open for the Patriots defense was JC Jackson's pick 6. It was the first drive they had sustained during the entire game. And when they finally got the ball moving, JC Jackson, you know, jumped in with an interception returned it for a touchdown and broke the game wide open. Picked off and look out. This is Justin bethel can they catch him from behind. They will not touchdown. New England. They did what a Bill Belichick defense traditionally does against an inferior quarterback. And they feasted on him, frankly, and by the end of the game, Sam darnold was pretty helpless against that past defense. The Patriots de has been making a lot of great offenses and great quarterbacks. Look pretty ordinary this year. Maybe making them look like Sam darnold, including Justin Herbert and Tom Brady, what exactly are the paths doing defensively that has been so effective? I think the biggest thing is their pass rush, you know, Matthew judon has been dominant for them. He's up to 9 sacks this year. He's closing in on a career high. He's putting pressure on the quarterback. Christian bar more of their rookie defensive lineman that they drafted in the second round, he's been extremely effective up front. And they're doing different things. You know, they've traditionally been a man coverage team on defense. They're mixing in some zone coverage. They're trying to fool quarterbacks and make sure that when they go into a game, the quarterback isn't getting the same look he's expecting. It has been essentially Bill Belichick showing that he still has his fastball. He's devising these game plans. And he's the one who is still thinking two steps ahead of some of these quarterbacks. It was a long night for Tom Brady when he visited Foxborough a few weeks ago. The Patriots lost that game, but Bill Belichick showed that he could put together a game plan against the greatest quarterback of all time and one of the best offenses in football. They haven't been perfect, but more often than not, they're showing they have a defense that's going to keep the team in games. And they have the smartest defensive coach of all time, figuring out how to put all those pieces together. Well, on the other side of the ball, New England's offense hasn't exactly been a well oiled machine. But it seems like it's been good enough to win them some games. Is that fair to say? I would say so. I think this offense is what you would expect an offense with a rookie quarterback to look like. You know, Mac Jones came in as certainly a more polished prospect than most rookie quarterbacks. He's definitely a guy that came in ready to play. And it helps that they've started to get the offensive line together a little bit. Still on his feet and now inside the 15 or 25 rather to the 24. They had a lot of different combinations on the offensive line to start the year because of injuries. They had a COVID situation. Now they've had the same 5 N for about the last month and Mac Jones's protection has been better. They've been able to get the running game going as they did against the Panthers. How good did these running backs look? I mean, once again, it doesn't matter if it's you know Stevenson has had some really nice runs. Look at how many touches. They have a three man rotation in the backfield with Damien Harris from Andre Stevenson and.

"Have to. And because I love it. But if you're watching the NFL across the league, coaches are going forward on fourth down. I mean, Brandon staley. It backfired this week, but he went for a fourth and one on his own 19 on Sunday. Coaches are being more aggressive, fourth and short. That's where the game is trending. Belichick isn't trending with the game. He's he's way back and it's and when you go against a team that's more aggressive and more explosive, you're going to give up points. And if you're not aggressive, you're going to lose games. This is not, you know, 2001. It's not even 2014 with Revis and browner in that defense. You're not going to hold really good teams to less than 21 points, 24 points, maybe even 27 points. You've got to change your approach. It's driving me nuts. And hopefully, I mean, we'll see a change moving forward. Because if not, I'm just I'm speechless. All right, three up. Who you got? I didn't change much from the game. You know, from. So I thought Juan Bentley before his injury, I thought it was one of his best games I've ever seen in play. I mean, he had I think 12 tackles and 11 were so low. You know, the force fumble, which, you know, dash got to hang onto that ball. And I still don't know if that was a legit fumble. I said, yes, the ball was moving, but I still think he had possession, but whatever. I didn't have a big beef with the call either way. Justin bethel, getting in there. The past breakup for the intersection forced to fumble on the punt. And Damien Harris, let's just put Harrison Stevenson together. I thought they both looked really good. They both look really fast on the coach's film, explosive. I think that's an indication, you know, the offense is starting to come together. Slow, but surely, but it's coming together. I just wish they attacked the linebackers more with their running backs. I thought, you know, they're getting there. It was going to be a game, especially after that played a Stevenson down the seam and then the Henry touchdown. I said last week, I think tight ends and running backs could do some damage against these linebackers and safeties. And they went big a lot. They ran the football lot again, you know, they did move the football, but I would have liked to see a little bit more activity to the tight ends and the running backs in the passing game. You're three down. I'm going to go Bill Belichick for that fourth down call and over time. I just think you simply you simply can't make that call. You have to go and win the game. And he didn't do that. And my second down would be Steve Belichick for those two calls that I said earlier. The fourth, the third and 25, which is just ridiculous, was a ridiculous call..

"I'll pull the numbers up. I looked up his historical. Yep. Which to see the last time he did that and I just got to scroll through a couple of things here, but I will give you the numbers here. They are so 2015. So he really didn't play defense. He played 106 name, over three seasons, his first years in Arizona, 10096. And then he played 442 7450 that's in each year from 2015 to 2017,. So he you know, he played about a quarter to a half of their the Cardinals defensive snaps during that stretch. Basically, it rotational outside corner, which is what the Patriots need. And then putting him out there last night on a night where a lot of special teams guys didn't play, Matthew Slater, Brandon Bolden, they're trying to get him ready to play boundary corner and I don't know that he's the the be-all end-all answer. It might be more of a break glass in case of emergency key might be the same. He might be the Johnson. Bademosi of this team is. I think it's a little more than that. No, I think it's a little more than that. Oh, I really do. I hope you're wrong. Wrong wrong. I don't think it's it's obviously not the best answer. But if they can't add somebody externally or steps, not ready to come back. Because remember, even if they, you know, even what if both, if both those things don't happen, even if one of those things happens, you still need to fill the third cornerback spot. So what I saw last night and it wasn't a ton of snaps, I think he played like fifteen eighteen snaps of two or three drives. I think we've seen in practice to he's been out there. I think they're trying to get Justin Bethel ready to play outside corner in case they need them. That's not good. And look he's fine at it. He's decent at it. I actually, you know, I was kind of surprised when she came here and they didn't use them out there as a depth guy more. I thought he could handle a small roll out there, in addition to special teams, but they, they, they were doing it before and you're doing it now, that that indicates to me that something's wrong, something's wrong because Joanne will not that he was all laughing. Like, like, you said, sorry, Justin Bethel made a really nice play Early second call log. I think it was early second-quarter. Yeah that quarterback ended up writing scrambling for on a third-and-one. He ended up scrambling for a first down. But Justin Bethel was falling underneath a vertical Corner out and it was a it was sort of a bootleg action type of play and the Crosser was coming from the back side. And the Crosser was open and the quarterback went to go throw the processor and Justin Bethel peel off the corner route, pass it off to the safety and jump across or enforce the quarterback to run with the football. And I said, oh that that's a pretty good play by Justin Bethel, you know, you just write those types of things down. You should see what happens there with that. But John Williams is still, I think a little bit of an issue. I really liked what miles Bryant did last night. Yeah. He was a game. We played a lot of deep middle of the field, safety, and the concern that I had with him playing back, there was length, right?.

"There was one day that very last day of mini-camp where I thought it was a decisive win for cam the other day. Is have really been controlled by Mac Jones or one by Mac Jones. And again, I come back to this point, not to belabor it, but let's see when the pads come on. If money back is still physically at that level. Because right now, if we're just talking about sort of throwing competitions between these two guys and who's going to throw the better ball and the more accurate ball them is going to win that, that contest 9 out of 10 times, right? And this is the other physical tools and cam hasn't really been able to do that quite yet. This is right now, a target of contest. And if we're going to play, yeah, we're going to play a Target contest, and Mac. Jones is going to win that. Yeah, for sure. It's with the case that's gets every position, right? You really don't know about the pads. Come on. And we should put that caveat on everything we say today. For the most part, you know, we're going to go off what we have and this is what we have, but whenever the pads come on, expect the conversation to change entirely dead. All right. So let's talk about some of the other offensive players that either stood out, or didn't stand out. We mentioned that the secondary played very well today and kind of had control of the day. And a lot of ways, I thought, snaggle or Ransom nice routes. I was impressed with this horizontal cuz of the top of the route where we when they signed him and when I studied his safe, but the Raiders so much of his good tape was vertical rats right off of Route, tree Fades, go Ballz deep crossers or posts things of that nature. And I wasn't necessarily expecting him to be able to separate at the top of the route as well as he has and he's a couple of practised. Now some of those reps, the two touchdowns, he caught one was against Justin Bethel, the other was against Mike Jackson I believe or maybe it was deep urgent. Not exactly. All-Pro quarterbacks right? We're not talking about him, dusting stuck on Gilmore but I thought that the routes that he ran at least it out a little bit above the rest and maybe more so than that. N'keal Harry had himself a nice day. Look, they'll work at I'm on Red Zone passing right?.

"Because I think it was interesting cuz it's their top ten in points. Most years I think last year they were even like eleventh or twelfth or something like that. I had to look it up but believe it or not. They actually like tend to figure it out with points-wise right? You know they they tend to keep going break right? They tend to keep teams out of end of The End Zone a lot. You're right page inserted, by the way, they're seventh and points last year, right? I mean like that's not a defense that you imagine is 7th and points, you know, they they really 27th offensive Lee. So right. But if you watch that Patriots defense last year and you didn't look at the stats, he didn't know anything about the stats. What you think that that was a top ten scoring defense last year? Cuz they were well, I don't know that. So, okay, here's where the numbers maybe lie. I think part of the reason that they didn't allow it's on a point is they ran the ball, a ton opponents, ran the ball a ton on them. The clock was constantly moving there wasn't necessarily time to school. Kind of points so that one might be misleading. That being said, I think it's asinine that we rank offense and defense by yards, instead of points most yards. At the end of the day, doesn't win the game. The team points does if you get the Chiefs to go on a, you know, ten minute drive that ends in a field goal, you gave up a ton of yards, a ton of yards but you only came away with three points. That's good. Defense, that's gone defense right there. I I absolutely go by points and I think that they can be in top 5. There should be a top five points defense. We'll see if the top three is maybe a bit of a push but they're going to be one of them points defenses in the league. Right. It definitely depends on what the offense does, right? Because when you get short field to the offense is turned the ball over. They can't drive the ball down, the field it all right kind of placing a hand. Now it definitely helps when you have Jake Bailey and Matthew Slater and Justin Bethel covering punts because then you're able to go out there and flip the field a little bit..

No matter of a team deep in on their own five yard line two letting let ball back year twice a year. It's just so wrong twice a game. So it's two drives a season that did The punter in the rams super bowl did did he win that game. And i'd say everyone agrees he was the game day. The best part of the nfl arabes hecker. Was that play in the chargers game. Where the ball was about the boundaries. Fassi got there and like caught it and scooped up behind him as reagan before he stepped in the end zone. And later you to use your brains okay. You're approaching football's a religion and like bill bell. Jack says that special teams are important. So that's really good signing. Aw that's talking about apparently is really dabbler religion. Football says that's true. I believe it. I decided i think we should start a religion because apparently it's really easy to do and it's completely tax free and start a religion around this bell like we'll we'll work on the name the name. How does the money into because we don't make any money well. We don't have to pay taxes on. Get the ball up on a Keenan Allen reception for 58 Yard Field goal attempt with three seconds to go in the half. Michael badge Li Would miss earlier from 46 lined up for the long field goal. The ball was snapped. Put down Ah, a lot of pressure from the outside from Justin Bethel, the Patriots db and then Cody Davis gets his hand up on blocks it Devin McCourty takes the hop and goes 44 yards for the touchdown giving me it's Ah, just Ah, great specialties play Nick Folk with the extra point and that's how we got to 28. Earlier on in the first half. It was a 70 yard punt return Tai long for the Chargers kick from his own end zone in Gunnar. Oh, Chesky took him back down the right sideline Nick Folk with the extra point. Early on in the first period was over the game. It was Cam Newton, a leaping one yard touchdown folk with the extra 10.13 plays 75 yards. 67 10 off the clock. The Chargers have just converted one of six on third down the Patriots. Harris 12 for 63 Cam Newton 12 for 46 passing. Why seven of 10 for 42 yards Justin Herbert struggling nine of 20 for 85, so The best thing that we can say right now is that the Chargers will have an opportunity to start the second half with the football, but it's been a long day. The Patriots are very physical. They have not missed a tackle all day and the Chargers air down 28 nothing. All right. Thank you, Chuck. Let's head to Seattle, where the Seahawks are trailing for the first time today. Here's Here's Kevin Shockey. Yeah. Really exciting moment. Here is something happened in the Seahawks job on. That thing That happened was a Wayne Gorman junior 60 yard run, starting at the 23 putting this Putting the Giants right into scoring position, and then Alfred Morris back from the dead. Alfred Morris is playing in the NFL. Still, you might not have known that he got two consecutive runs 13 Yard run to put them then down to the four yard line and then a four yard touchdown run to take the lead. And then a two yard excuse me a two point conversion from Colt McCoy to Sterling Shepard gave them what is still a baseball score now 8 to 5 lead For the Giants over the Seahawks for the Seattle Kris Gundersen with nine carries for 56 yards. Russell Wilson 113 yards in the Air Metcalf three catches for 51 yards. Tyler Lockett forecasters for 41 Yards on the other side win Goldman really coming alive here in the second half now eight carries for 82 yards that long, one of 60 and then Alfred Morris with the cuts down 32 yards and one touchdown. Colt McCoy. Nothing of note. Nine for 15 for 71 yards. With that pick, but with seven minutes 40 seconds left to go here In the third quarter, the Giants have finally taken the lead. It's 8 to 5 giants over the sea off. Thank you, Kevin. And you know, Jody just before we go to build Rabia or just a quick thought, waiting woman. There's a guy that didn't make himself some money. In this offseason, His contract is up. He had a great career. Clemson had a slow start to his NFL career and really kind of gotten a doghouse, I guess if with the previous coaching staff of the Giants but hes really come alive here down the stretch, and at a time when nobody really thought he would I've been saying it for a couple of weeks now, Now don't get me wrong. I didn't think that when Goldman was gonna be when Goldman has turned out to be, But after the first game that he had, and he opened up my eyes and I thought, and I hope that the Giants coaching staff size they did they believed in it. They saw it. They said, Hey, he's having success here. Why don't we continue to feed him? He has been dynamite. He is for me their best offensive player. Right now. He's the best offense weapon. Daniel Jones running the ball when he's healthy and the other team not expecting. It has made some big plays for the Giants. But down and down out. Their best option is to hand it to Wayne Goldman..

"Linemen Eric Armstead next hour we had patriots DB Justin Bethel and right now as promised we're joined by a former receiver from Alabama he is a national champion third most receiving TD's in Alabama history he averaged seventeen and a half yards per reception for his career forty receptions seven hundred forty six yards seven TD's as a junior in twenty nineteen he was the fastest man at the twenty twenty NFL combine and the NFL draft is scheduled to get underway April twenty third Henry Ruggs the third is my guest Henry it's so good to have you on how are you I'm good how are you I'm great listen there are a lot of things I want talking about but let me start with the most obvious I mentioned off the top that you were the fastest man at this year's combine so you don't just have speed you have crazy speed you talk about how back in the day your dad used to encourage you to run a lot so when did you first realize that not only my fast I'm actually one of the fastest people in this country okay probably I probably got the best in the new house when when I last under contract Graham my senior year and we'll live with the practice always in the gym at basketball and you know whenever I came up to the tags out when the first played with no practice side in that point I kind of had commented that they're out there but right and we run some third joining us hope you good indicator indicator I should say zero four two seven forty to combine but you were not especially pleased necessarily with that number what's the number that you had in your head did you could hit if you execute a perfect forty and everything goes the way you want to go I I wanted to keep it at the the four to five Dallas hands on ministry I want this I want to stay at that number hello that's what you said that when you running training you don't really look at the clock you don't need to because you can feel what a good run feels like so what does a good one feel like explain that's me well how how do you know if you have your number without looking at the clock a lot of times I mean I did it feel good if I if I come out and get a good start pretty good star in it this move you know what I get to the top and as desperate about what I like to do so I feel like you know if I get my first my first ten yards down and I get a small start being the decree of the vehicles no it feels good and that's what I can tell I have a good time okay we're talking to Henry Ruggs a third when you announce the relieving Alabama you had a piece in the players Tribune and it starts out talking about your best friend rod Scott who passed away is the results of were the result of injuries from a car accident what was wrong like as a person and a friend and what do you mean do you I mean he was in the is always a happy person you the one that was very tough in his job his ability and he will let you know that the true competitive so he always had me in them head of working out no four five times a day waking up early coming back late at night going out and seeing this get the better been at that company that he had to make sure that everybody knew you know who he was and what he was about yes good answer because that leads me to the next thing there's this amazing story that when you were in high school you are a self described a five foot nine basketball player who was set on not playing football but right started calling you five star he was going to five star to convince you to play football why was he so clear that you were going to be any leave football player and what it means to you to hear that I mean I I kind of I kind of didn't really have a company because I was a smaller guy and he he thought that the the idea when I was a kid and then enlisted in being around about and you know in middle school I'd be a great year so he he thought things and there's no way that I could I could compete on the high school level but I didn't you know I would have to come up with a lot of the smaller guy he did you know what the dad be it came about he thought called me five side tell me that I can go out there and do you know do today that they have before and will be with those guys a lot you don't want that one back and then heard that he had that coverage then you can get me to go out and try sure I wonder though like like how did he know like what he see for instance so we're really clear about this you were a really really good basketball player similar highlights have gone viral in the last few months and they're crazy like how did ride no how do you have that knack where do you see like how would he know something like that that that's a question that I still try to ask myself did they lie idle like if I would be about the C. again and with a bath and some that will be the question like what did he see because I have no idea it's amazing thing can rise if they're joining us now you wrote that when you move from Montgomery to Tuscaloosa you weren't sure how it was going to go for you you kind of kept yourself but people they're found out about riding in what he meant to you then they reached out to you and they supported you so how special was that feeling yes I mean I guess I would I would kill myself didn't really didn't really get around and really get out what they really a social person and you know what they found out they just kinda you know came on to me and do that that relationship were important to me and you know my teammates and and the fact is that around the around the program had it is it is for them to death F. SMU Cockett trust them and you know it may be more comfortable and more confident as a player and person talking Henry runs a third and speaking of family you said that when you were wrestling with that decision of whether or not to enter the draft one of the things that you kept thinking about was returning for your senior season with the fact that your brother was going to be there and you have the potential playing with him he told you that it was time for you to go and take advantage of the opportunity what it means to you to hear that from him well I mean that was that was very much the deciding factor because I mean I'm a I'm a family guy and I'll do anything for my family especially my brother they are the number one no one number one in my life and once he told me that I did it was like you know the number and I knew I was going to take the opportunity and I knew that he he he was great demand uptick and do things that he had to do a voice for the talking head runs a third but the receiver room there you're part of a loaded receivers run that included multiple future first round picks it would be really easy for guys to get caught up maybe even complain that they weren't getting enough targets but it never seemed like that happen for you guys how to describe the vibe in the attitude in that receiver room they were competitive it was fun it was always all right it's a it's definitely a brother to know Colorado outside and that's the one thing we products of phone is it doing everything together and as a group so why make the play we obviously is not yes you do stats just divide states that your device that is as a group it's also the same time though when you've got that much talent in the receiving corps when you do get the ball in the game do you have any kind of sense for any kind of feeling like man I better score here because I might not get to the look for a while yeah that that that the amount that in the mentality that we had you know yesterday your friend that you can ever get done because not only do we have a loaded zero but we had it loaded up you know quarterback that can take off at any time you see not you make a great out the back field in the passing game so you know when when you do get the opportunity you gotta you gotta do what you have to do that you don't get that said that and then you've got to go out and head coach what was it like to play for Nick Saban I mean he never let you never let anyone sour greatness you know if you're not if you're not on top of everything back on the field and off the field he need that mentality no and that much pain and I can say that makes not only the program better but the people around that and we run some third is my guest for a few more moments no a lot of people to be focused on your speed but there is so much more your game when teams are looking at your film what do you want them to see I want them to see I got it related that you know that that never got a shot away from anything you know and I sat away from big the last on the way from entity catches over the middle enough of my god S. as Linda do any and everything for the team once you get into a place right now who do you think are the most similar to your game are there any guys you watch right now that you model yourself after I will tell my mother about the wide gap with that kind of you know I'm going to watch a lot of guys that I like to watch yeah Jeff Hopkins of course Terry here because he's being and jobs landed all the guys that are you know kind of what's allowed by some when you consider all the work you put in when you consider you went from being a basketball player to a football player what do you think it's going to feel like when you hear name called in the draft hi diddle beat it it will be a a a crazy feeling but underneath it is the thought of something else so I had to you know get like Boston half blue collar you have to make a name for yourself it just like awful from college to the league it's time to you know let everybody know who I am and what I can do it's the right mind set he's a former receiver from Alabama a national champion the fastest man at the twenty twentieth all combine in that and draft is getting underway April twenty third Henry Ruggs the third our guest Henry really well done great to have you on the show good luck with that thank you very bad pre sheet you Henry well done Henry Ruggs the third all right you get two or three interviews and we're off to a great start we had Eric Armstead we had had we rise to third Justin Bethel coming up next hour good day Matt money Smith after the program for the general podcast right so may take a moment since we're not having another interview until forty past our number three now is the best chance to get through to me open it up to you one eight hundred six three six eight six eight six once again one eight hundred six three six eight six eight six.

"Six three six eight six eight six right the world until the top of our number two at that point in NFL draft prospects former Alabama wide receiver Henry Ruggs to third really interesting draft in the way of wide receivers and he is one of the best coming out so we'll get his thoughts and what he's thinking about as he gets ready for the NFL draft you probably saw the story there is talk that some would like to see the draft move back with some the power brokers in the NFL so you don't know what was the weirdest we can get into that Justin Bethel patriots DB in our number three Jim Mone podcast dropping after the program episode one hundred and twenty two Matt money Smith is my guest that is an awesome lesson can the podcast I've got a phone number where you put your phone especially now you're at home you got more time on your hands should blow up my phone write this number down put your phone it leave me a voicemail nine four nine three eight five zero four four seven nine four nine three five zero four four seven it's a short time out and we'll come right back I do wanna talk about Tom Brady and that introductory presser with the box you're listening to the Jim Rome show Hey guys it's never a good look when you want to talk a long bulky Drescher now you may think it makes you look casual but more than likely you just end up looking sloppy this is why untuk it make shirts that are specifically designed to be worn on top it's a casual shirt it's not too long and not too short it's just right sure it's designed so wealthy GQ calls them perfection untuk it sure it's our go to for any occasion from casual.

"Okay he also said some other things I believe about how special teams is directly correlated to the coaching which by the way when you're planning a spell check Belichick cares about the special teams he's like invested in the special teams then I got a guy named Matthew Slater Matthew Slater is one of the best budget is the best muscle teams buyer of all time his dad Jackie Slater NFL legend so he's a generational talent he's very very good they also have Justin Bethel good schemes block upon scored touchdown bang bang boom don't put a return back he put the cowboys punch him in a blender because you didn't put a return back I mean they were never ever prepared for an over number of people inside the box because we don't ever trying to back you have nine people in the box on a point which means that your frontline asked zone protect basically instead of man project which is normal if they fire him upon or in a game and I see no return or back and I'm putting into the wind I am so happy because all I have to do is just catch it hello Laurie nothing and it's just going to run out instead they get a delayed game because they don't know what to do that again the legal shift and then they lose twenty yards of field position with Bella check choosing not to border Turner back he beats them in all aspects of the game which is why Jerry Jones said I built this team better which I would argue he's right with that whether the rain the wind all that to have a great a line which is what the cowboys supposed to have yeah have a great running game which is what cal boys are supposed to have been a defense that can do well in can swarming can move the ball you would think that that game was almost set up for them to succeed as opposed to the patriots and here we are talking about a patriot seem that still doesn't have their offense clicking at they made a play down there and then kill it and kill Harry yeah bachelor through a great catch but he drops on later where most of the time those balls are caught Julian Edelman have won it off his hands which doesn't normally happen he makes up for later but normally those caught so this is a defense and special teams strictly win for the patriots in if your cowboys Jerry Jones you like come on this is one of our only chance to get this win it looks like this season is trying to spiraling out of control the thing I don't understand either is look look that Jason Jason Garrett is gonna get is ask can he be probably deserves to he's been there for too long I think many would argue nine years he's been there clap nine years to playoff wins right but like they have had several more Mike much more egregious losses this year I just I don't know why after this game like I mean I guess die how hard cowboys fans may be expected them to win but like is anyone really that shocked and that's the way that game played out now like it's just interesting that he would take a stand that hard after this game as opposed to like the Minnesota game or a handful of these other losses where they really had no business law I think once you start looking down the line both them in Philadelphia have a pretty good schedule but they have a couple more losses I think coming down and I don't think Philadelphia has that many in they're not gonna get the wildcard spot so this is another year with the cowboys and Jerry Jones had been am this conversation up initially looks like we're not making the playoffs this year boys in that can be tough to take especially if you are the owner of a franchise it's supposed to be marketed everywhere it is ten fourteen eastern standard.

"Situations where everyone wanted to kind of see okay Baltimore do a really good job offense will run the football everybody but I want to see what they do look at the patriots and vice versa two seven is what this story great defense in the first half of the season what have they really played anybody who was a competition or worse if they do against the ravens so these to be suppliers meet tonight also then Michael ball in for the first sixty minutes of this game we will not sure people respected this if you if you're not from Baltimore or a raving fan open you use but that is to happen and I think even have there been expected even talk of a short kick off pulled into the four yard line compatriots to the right side of the fifteen border with available twenty across the twenty five as he gets across the thirty yard line bests starting field position of a night for New England so go to work down seventeen so nothing this still is pretty it's out whether this game I will say that we play sixty minutes of football there's plenty of time in this game we have a great quarterback in doing that still that to make things happen pretty quickly and your support for both of us to get to places here but I think the power of the future to put their personal two receivers right side this crowd scenes working in screaming right now and for seventeen of the thirty one yard line up doing was next to the ball game for the first time Brady on the shock and throws left side for your service thirty five the pass was a little high he left up to get it by the time he came down Jimmy Smith back for the first time since week one was there to make a stop at a thirty seven yard line compatriots pacing again up to the line quickly Brady now one for for the night second down and for the thirty seven yard line Brady of the center turns it gives the Burkett over the right side in Rexburg can't stop the shot of the forty mortally third down and one Patrick once so what the stock their play with pace is great it was great you're doing a disservice because you're down but only problem is if you don't pick up first your point is alright we have a team time and time again for the sake of the eight ball more than seventy three receivers points to the left side Brady changing it up close in his arms in front of it we'll go out wide to the right emptying the backfield on third and one of the forty yard line Brady along the right hands meeting in pointing to is left to a left handed Watson in most of the slot left Brady gets the shock and sapphires to the right side traffic the flood could away and complete all once in one one side Marcus Peters on the other Brady tried to fit it into a tiny tiny slot couldn't get it there and use that put that you were talking about again Jason Brady and the patriots offense headed to the sideline where you saw what he wanted to see they were these all the papers were mad because he tried to get into the at the at the back fill set out and then they get guys stepped up to the one pick relative to the man coverage but to look about the captain of the balls being pointed back Cyrus Jones the bands who are left to do it lots of Jake Bailey high into the night sky and it's and the New England Patriots just got it just was really cool our first sorry Rhys Jones it the White office chance slip through his fingers and Justin Bethel has it inside the Baltimore twenty what is is that if you're playing so well offensively so well defensively about it in the open special teams in games like this can make huge plays it contains momentum to really see the outcome of the game is this possibly that play this early in the game it can be because right now that the patients have had nothing going on offense to gain by themselves in the red soled already scored four previous reports first out of ten of the ravens twenty of the former ravens Justin Bethel comes back to bite the hand of the team that put him on October twenty one Brady swing set out to white on the right side with a doctor to fifteen white a little stutter step of the ten and white down at the five yard line by Marcus Peters it'll be first and goal the week or the fifteen yard pick up and how quickly mold meant to can change chase it on a seemingly innocent fun this place is rocket thirty seconds ago and they're excited to get the ball back on offers the crowd was into it patriotact ahead Hagen real things of flip quick screen a door set has a terrible office and that's an incomplete pass he got absolutely pummeled by Jimmy Smith as he had that ball hit him in the hands Jimmy Smith with him in the store those who support here for doing then obviously the diskette support service Dr hopefully they're hoping for touch down one to get his ball the end zone but worst case they'll turn it over to conceal boulder really the three point to help down the road will be really killer here for them right now is a good touch down in this world three receivers love single wide of the right Brady in the gun on second gold a white male six out of the backfield Brady looks right looks left pressure comes Brady throws the sword into the first row behind the scenes on Matthew Jim done with the late pressure but that's a coverage play right there for the patriots offense they could find anybody opening it's a rated speed number seven figure was responsible about that was the Beatles were brownie but there was a receiver in the area sort of third down and goal to four huge play for the ravens defense maybe a bigger play for the patriots offense down seventeen to nothing your set in and open to the right of the line Sununu and Watson white to the right of breeding in the gun radio said that over the motion from right to left some of his right foot gets the shot cuts that looks left throws it left side what is the goal of the left side for a touchdown Mohammed soon.

"We were down like six I think like one score JJ Watson sideline Laaksonen sidelines. He wise onside and everybody's on the sideline and any Dalton's in the game for this game winning drive. So I look at luck. I'm like, why are you not in the motherfucker game? You're not the first pick of this traffic. There's thirty thousand dollars on the line right now. He looks like no, no, no. He didn't want to be rude to whatever so JJ watt pipes. And he goes you go in go in. I'm like look. Anyway, I'll go into a wide receivers you wanna engine walks away like pissed off. And then Andy does what Andy does we lose pick? I don't know what happened and I go to Andrew, and I go thanks, and I just walked that's roughly our last. I think you could have talked one gun, and that's all you needed was one gutter into a fake. I know would have been nice, but that gutters getting blocked by the other special teams guys not trying. No, he he is trying that guy's only there. It was Slater was on the other team, and we had Justin Bethel. So those special teams guys they are those who are trying does that's their their only role is there for that. And there's no way like. Our bethel. I think tried to block Viteri feel like extra point. And they put the skinny uprights in the day of the game. Viteri had no idea that they were gonna put in Guinea uprights. So they they actually did it for the Pro Bowl. They made smaller upright Viteri missed like an extra point and something else. Who's a year? He was almost perfect to the greatest year of his fucking career in it soon as it gets for the Pro Bowl. They make like these gimmick. Fucking up. Fuck is this. It was like a Rena league up. Put it bullshit. Absolute bullshit. He wasn't on my team. Either us on the other team would have been nice photo. You know, maybe a little ball for him. You know, maybe cheer me on was quite Matthews. Try block..
