Why the racism in facial recognition software probably cant be fixed
"Been proven that facial recognition software isn't good at accurately identifying people of Color. We also know that police departments around the country use facial recognition tools to identify suspects and make arrests, and now we know about what is possibly the first confirmed wrongful arrest made as a result of mistaken identification by software. The New York Times reported last week. That Robert Williams a black man was wrongfully arrested in Detroit in January. Joy Berlin. We has been researching this topic for years as a computer scientist based at the MIT. Media Lab and Head of the nonprofit Algorithm ICK Justice League. She says like racism. Algorithm make bias is systemic. This is not a case of one bad algorithm. What we're seeing is a reflection of systemic racism in automated tools like artificial intelligence right now where gambling with people's faces. Faces and homework gambling with people's faces were gambling with democracy I mean it does seem like awareness and policy around facial recognition are starting to catch up if slowly, but what more needs to happen, is that the role of companies alone to not offer the software, or is it the role of governments to stop police departments from using this technology? We can't leave it to. To companies to self regulate while we have three that have come out to that back from facial recognition technology still have major players who supplies h recognition technology to a law enforcement. We absolutely need lawmakers, so we don't have to accept this narrative. That technology is already out there. There's nothing we can do. We have a voice. We have a choice what we are pushing. Pushing for with the Algorithm Justice League is a federal law that bans face surveillance across the nation, so I am encouraged by the latest bill I've seen a from Congress so I would highly encourage support of that bill so that at least across the country there are some base level protections. You wrote this post. The ended with the line. Racial Justice Requires Algorithm Justice. Given that humans right the algorithms, this is sort of the the constant question. How can that be accomplished algorithm justice? I mean sure so when we're talking about our MC justice, it's really this question about having a choice having a voice and having accountability, and so what we're seeing with this wild wild west approach to deploying facial recognition technology for surveillance is the lack of choice. Lack of consent, and so when we're thinking about Algorithm, make justice it is this question about who has power and who has a voice in. It needs to be the voice of the people when we're talking about racial justice, the reason racial justice requires Algorithms Mc. Justice is increasingly we have. Tools that are being used to determine who gets hired who gets fired who get stopped or arrested by the police, what kind of medical treatment you might receive where your children can go to school, and so and so much as a I is increasingly governing and serving as the gatekeeper to economic opportunities educational opportunities. We can't get to a racial justice without thinking about Algorithm mic justice. Technology companies are so sure that there must be a way to make the technology work and make it work largely for good. and I wonder if you think the events of the past month have really changed whether they keep working on this technology or whether they might actually start to see the the real limitations that you have seen I along. Companies respond to the pressure of the people, and I want to emphasize that the announcement for IBM to stop selling facial recognition technology for Amazon to do a one year moratorium an for Microsoft to not sell to law enforcement came after the cold blooded murder of George Floyd protest in the streets, years of employees activism. We have a responsibility to think about. How do we create equitable and accountable systems, and sometimes what that means is you don't create the tool. Joy Bologna as a computer scientists at the MIT media lab, but speaking of tools we should not create researchers at Harrisburg University last week said they've created facial recognition software that can actually predict crime. We already know what could go wrong.
Princeton to remove Woodrow Wilson's name from policy school
"Princeton University's board of trustees has voted to rename the Woodrow Wilson School Charlotte Reese reports. It's all part of an effort to oppose racism. The school will now be known as the Princeton School of Public and International Affairs. In a statement, the board said Wilson's quote racist thinking and policies make him an inappropriate namesake. He's been down there for a little bit of some whalers who have Atlantis, weaponry and the ends up going on their vote and kicking their asses, because they're killing whales, and that's kind of cool, and it shows him commanding. Commanding the army, and how people don't trust him. Army doesn't really trust. The humans don't trust him. When you first announced the pick, I was like okay. Okay, Dave must've gotten a Tony. Stash and had had a few with him. I've been drinking. But. Then you described the interaction, and then you described the whole thing with him Dr Manhattan and at the end of it I thought. It wouldn't have been my first choice when my second choice wouldn't have been my seven, hundred and twelfth choice. But the way you described it. Kinda WanNa see that story now and he dropped the MIC. He's done. Well done, sir, well done I'll take it. Because I think it's that nihilism. It's that it's that. Dr Manhattan is like life has no meaning jokers, like of course, not unless it's. That's the joke for him. The joke is ending the world document. Hatton's like man. Don't give a fuck. Okay, sure, let's try it snap. Okay, so let's recap this and let's take a look at the new. Now I I think judge Anderson and the joker would be fun because she can read his mind. He's not ready for that. I can't think of I can't think of a story with the joker where somebody could read his mind, and they can anticipate what he's GonNa do, but somebody can just actually be in his head, and who anyway is that the direction you go, though 'cause I mean, I could see that direction where he's gotta deal with her because she can read his mind. and. Hbo Max in Two Thousand Twenty one is releasing. What's now being called and I will refer to it from now on Zack Snyder's justice league. New Does no longer the Snyder. God It's now Zach Snyder. I feel good man like I. Have that like? Yesterday I watched the first two trailers again were con- sneak peak, and then the the first trailer when you could tell it was still Zach. Footage and everything and I don't know I just feel. I just feel good again like what? Are you boys feeling just overall general like. Well I mean I'm super, fricken excited. I mean this this here. Just just shows you that. The announcement of Zack Snyder's justice. League here now just shows you that. The saying you know one man's trash is another man's treasure. People out there are like already bashing Zach Snyder again because he's actually getting to finish the movie, and and in the series the The series of films that he began. He's actually getting the opportunity to complete it the way he would have completed which you know. As an artist. That's I mean somebody. Somebody tearing down what you did, and and literally using the bones of what you did to create something that they just I don't even know what they were intending. You know what I mean so. With what you're saying. I mean we just want to like. Can. I mean that's that's huge. I said this the Brian early and I've said it before, but. I. Don't blame Weedon for the justice the. Because everyone calls the because. There's all kinds of documented history about what happened, but basically we was hired to write pages. To oversee re-shoots basically ended up him. Then re shooting a majority of the film, and then kind of guiding impose production. And He was hired for a job. He ended up getting more done. And Justice League became another studio project. Was Being Shepherd and conducted by a studio more than a filmmaker. So. It became something I mean i. here's my thing and I is. The problem with this film. Is that we knew that so much more existed. You Know Justice League. We'd seen trailers with with footage that was not in the film. We had seen altered scenes in trailers that were different in the film. We had seen. Pictures and snippets and TV spots all with this footage in this images. That were not in the final film. So it was one of the things that we heard stories about what was filmed. What the heart of the story was going to be? And the actress talking about these scenes that were not part of the movie. So we knew so much existing. Than what we got and that's really what helped. Push this movement. was knowing there's more out there. Well just knowing that. So much. So much of what he did that was. That should have been there I mean it wasn't his film. I mean when you watch it. You, can you can? And when you watch it and you wanted a couple of times you can see the seems you know. Yes, you can see where they used the principal photography footage and then. Reshot so many of the close ups and certain groups, scenes and stuff to completely change the dialogue and change the narrative of the story. I mean it seems like all the results were done in like one sound stage with like one or two sets and a bunch of green screen because. I don't want to dive into all that because James and I covered that pretty well when we did our justice league was a two year. Look back or one year. Look back. It was a one year. One year after justice. We did a commentary track for yeah. Find that episode number but there. We talked a lot about that in there. I want to focus on the positive here. And That's that. Yeah, that's all that's all. That's all history now. Now now it's time to be positive and look look at. What we're actually going to get? We're actually going to get that stuff for the hatred. that. You know this is just coming about now. It's really great reports. Come out that. To actually have Zack Snyder's justice league. Happened in November when there was that huge twitter movement of Hashtags, re tweets and a push on social media for it actually began then. and has been. Third million, tweets. And Single Day. And I do want to throw this out there before we get into some deep discussion. I don't some people are going crazy about this I don't foresee. They're they've they're not saying. The actors are coming back for additional footage. They're saying some additional dialogue or AGR which is. Cleaning up lines adding some lines. But. They're not re shooting the.

"Shit but I chuckled at that. So I I give this movie one point for that. So congratulations so Batman arrives at the scene. Superman immediately realizes. Hey you're the guy who got me killed. picks them up a Threats to kill him in his British accent. I don't know if anyone else notices that. He slips accents there and this is when Batman calls in for the big gun and lowest shows up so I in in a they wanted the audience and not shows up in a May back. A maybach Bruce. A super rich her getting out of the car and I'm like Oh they must've sponsored just center of the screen it says you know. Maybach couldn't couldn't have just gone with a taxi. Attacked her in. So Superman sees lois and throws the Empty Batman pseudo aside and he goes to lowest picks up and flies back to Smallville while this is going on the Justice League forgets that the mother box just totally left alone here and Steppenwolf this of stuff stars upon I go. I'll take this and and yep see later. And then he just by an expert mother box by so he just he screws off to wherever he's going to go and the rest of the League like. Oh man probably should've kept an eye on that that off so now the the Justice League get together. They realized that they are. They're kind of screwed Superman's in the wind. But they realize cyborgs able to pinpoint where they're going and it's to a Russian town where Steppenwolf is prepared to unite three boxes to call in apocalypse. Yeah so go the what I wanted to say with the and it goes back to again another three minutes seen or that they could have put in a movie. Is I know. They wanted to reveal of lowest but so obvious who who he means. Yeah like just have the scene. Like have have bruce going to explain to lois. What is planning and like like as she steps out of the car. Flashback for you know what already you went. It would've made more sense if this was the first time we see Lois Lane in the movie because we already established that. She's in that we're never going to see her again. Come on we know. That's not so it would have been cool like you said maybe Bruce Kinda goes to to lowest and he says you don't even have to explain the plan just like he knocks on the door. She answers it and he goes. I WanNa talk to you about something and then cut away so I mean just so. We know that he's not just doing it to be selfish. He's got the okay of Lois. Lane. I'm thinking you know as someone who's watch lot of movie you could even do. You know she steps out of the car. Do Quick. Flashback knocking on the door. Him saying I talked to you about something. Can I come in explained? And then just have a quick sentence of her going. Are you sure a? You'RE GONNA come back fine with all the stuff that you know. Diana said Diana's basically said Olo lines by the way in this explanation You know sure it's GonNa come back..

"Yeah they did. They did end for strong. As Justice League was throughout the entire new fifty two kind of and week. I'm with dark side. War some things they did cut. That did come out of dark side. War Three jokers. Hopefully once we finally get that It'll be worth it. The whole a Braille storyline and the death and rebirth of dark side which had had stuff in wonder woman. Rebirth as well as into the new Justice League Odyssey which I've enjoyed mostly justice league got us. It was a little different than what they had anticipate. Or what they described when they gave birth to three new Justice League titles the Justice League Justice League dark and just League Odyssey. They were like yeah. Dark side is going to be a part of the Justice League. I was like oh well. That's like I don't know what to expect from that and thankfully it wasn't what thankfully it's not that like dark. Side is not a part of the Justice League the next time. I thought this our role I did this at dockside in. Doc's house all the next time they got to bring an aura and yeah you feel like he's too important dockside new genesis verse apocalypse type. Let's bring in that. I mean I'll be happy if they just did a fourth world type movie like do that'd be how dark side came to be dark side. I mean one thing that I did like that. They did in the new fifty. Two's when they did the villains month and all the villains KINDA got one shot most kind of origin stories but there were all these one shots and I really enjoyed the post tied one is really good and I think they can change. Stocks saw though in that which threw me a bit his origin. I mean he's in very different to what it was before so one thing that they don't talk about in this film with dark side and they don't they don't get the fourth worth is. That dark side exists outside. The multi-diverse yes. Well that's that's the weird thing that I feel like lot of people riding saw dart quite like an injustice like dockside war. I feel like didn't really make sense with the fought across the stuff that they set up. Dachshund was if you remember dark side was going Earth Earth Killing Superman. I don't remember what book is. But there's a book of dark sides town the bodies of a bunch of Superman and then when he got to the Earth a new fifty two when he went to kill. Superman is win. The Justice League was formed stopped him because the whole Earth to book it starts right after or like the first couple of issues of earth two was Batman. Superman wonder woman being killed. I mean that was fast issue. Yeah by dark in that campaign. And that's what threw me. When I went back later and read the Batman Superman team up title was that was all earth to before dark side. Came or something like that. I'm trying to remember. It's been all of them but yeah I was that it was that trickster God from from apocalypse that dark side us to go to these different universes these different Parallel earths and kill the superman. There I'm trying to remember if it was it was his defeat on like Earth. Prime Earth One That spurned him and want and made him go to these other earth and kill Superman.

Electric Justice League dark film with Constantine fighting a supernatural Dylan which is what Justice League dark. That might have been good. Well we got one of those movies already but again. It's like our. Should we still be making stupid mistakes? Fifteen movies in no we shouldn't accept CC all I get the feeling that you say. Oh yeah they're this. You sent American versus South Dakota. And that's another thing because we have there if we're GONNA do a massive attack. Why isn't the core is there? Wasn't this industrial core there if apocalypse exit an existential threat to everyone you know. Why aren't we going after him? Exactly why are we taking literally a handful? Didn't even bring plastic man or ambush bug or oh every wipe the floor with everyone you got little racer Forget again to like you said I mean. No one had a plan. B If Superman Film Batman Luthor should have had like a nuclear bomb something. What the problem is that? Batman and Luther. Both like had plan B's for themselves. I don't think one really thought it through and it will say actually actually know it was the most interesting thing that I don't think it's ever been mentioned before that I guess job show was GonNa Shoot Batman and then chose not to. There's versions of the story where that were that's true. Yeah which also kind of suggested idea that Joe. Chiro showed Batman mercy. And maybe that's why he doesn't kill because everything joke Joe Chill Harden murder that he is could kill Martha in and Thomas but he can kill it kid effort as he was he was still human. Yeah and maybe that kind of thing informs Batman on a deeper level the idea that he might realize that they could have killed me and he didn't add in most stories. It's not even that deepest basically like you know. This was in his mind. This was the ultimate evil. So it's like ultimate evil kills so if I went to fight ultimate evil. I gotta be the opposite so I do not. That's that's the kill comic book. Nineteen thirty nine. Charlie asks her. Come on yes I get..

And a half pincer maneuver isn't a thing a pincer maneuver is when you come in behind in hop light warfare to to close off the enemy's line of retreat a half pincer maneuver means. You're literally just picking a side in ramming at them head on. So yes. Maybe you're GONNA hit from the left hand left rank that yeah. It's it's not a you know it's like a fool and getting your how well the different things they make every episode at a royal drums. Yes but you know. But that's the thing that but that is that is. That's the joke. When every time he says it's a classic half pincer maneuver. It's it's meant to be that he's he he is saying we don't really have a good fan but we're going to rely on the fact that we're probably a superior force and because we're a superior force we can just do this head on attack because we are the and that's great if you're the ATM and you're going up against a bunch of starved cultists in the desert. I don't think dark side counts. You know I don't think army a paradigm demons. Stuff me if you listen to the way some of the creators and talked about how projects and things that were in development and being worked on before the buyout After that Hal things were changed a might mandates were put on. It makes sense because I felt like you know yes. This continuity started from the new fifty two and then they carried out. S- overtime. They kind of drop some of that They were holding too tightly to the new fifty two. They were kind of adjusting. It making their own doing a story lines and then they were kind of entering the rebirth. It more towards what the rebirth reborn storylines were. And they were kind of expanding. Because they know they did storylines like death of Superman. Hush Judas Contract In this continuity and then all of a sudden here we are boom pockets. It's over yeah I was I was. I've heard those are the two. Warren really likes them. I forget to watch the. I've heard really good things. Yeah no the flash. It's tough because if you're not the person that like 'cause Arrow has it's weird funky shit to but like if you're not a fan of the weird and has like weird you might not like the Flash. I love it and honestly yogurt. Sawn has become one of the greatest villains of ANY SUPERHERO BASED MEDIA. I've seen And also his name is. Yo- barred thon boy. Do I love. It really is a good name so we please So one of the things that like what just to start off one of the things I loved about birds of Prey. That is put me off a lot of. Dc stuff is that. I don't love when shows have people that are all attractive in the same sort of way yeah I know where everyone's like a polished millennial or polished older person or Polish like teenager Here's a guy with short hair named Chris. Yeah again you know. Here are all these rails in model tall women. Here's you know all these instagram models doing a show. It's like it doesn't. There's something about it that always takes me out of it a little bit and one of the things. I loved about birds of prey. That will get more into. Is that Everyone was such sessia unique character like they very much came from their own styles. Their own half. They weren't having to in a world together because they were a world together. Yeah so let me ask you this. Can you sum up the story of the movie since we're talking about a little bit in a lot of the ideas of what we love about it How would you sum up the movie? Go Rachel Go. Yeah so high summit up is on the movie starts where a Harley Quinn and joker just broken up. And she's narrating delightfully sort of like how they got together. How the relationship was going sort of all the benefits. She got from being in a relationship with him and now she's the process of grieving that relationship and sort of the the steps. She's taking like when she won't admit to it when she's just sad about it and when she starts to like do something and like work through it And in that process it sort of opens up this This space for a new Super Villain to start to take hold of the city and when that happens it starts to bring all these other characters a cop down on their luck of secret character that is revealed later in the story and even like the the evil guys Driver come into play to handle all these things. It's actually beautiful. A how like all these people get woven into the same

Comics You Should Own: DC: The New Frontier
"The next comic. I wanna talk about is DC new frontiers. Another nostalgic comic. I found from DC slightly different since I primarily read, comics from independence as of late, but this one caught my eye, and I liked what I saw and read the story takes place in the late forties, fifties and very early sixties of the DC universe, the art and the heroes costumes reflect that style. I mentioned in a previous episode that golden age styles seem to have a bit of a resurgence in the last five or ten years in the comic book world is seems to have an appeal to the new generation, and I can't quite put my finger on what that, why that is anyway, the solicit is the new frontier is an award winning six issue comic book series, written and drawn by Darwin. Cook published in two thousand four like I said, set from nineteen forty five nineteen sixty post World War Two sentiment and the Cold War tension of pushed the age of superheroes into decline. However, when a threatening alien presence emerges on earth, new era of superheroes must join force, with the veteran, heroes and an unfriendly United States government to battle the nemesis. The series was influenced by kingdom come the golden age watchmen, and the dark Knight returns, we see our superheroes, superman Batman and Wonderwoman meeting silver age characters like the flash green lantern, Martian, manhunter, the story bridges, the gap between the end of the golden age in the beginning of the silver age and the DC universe. The story was also adapted into an animated film Justice league the new frontier which was released in February of two thousand eight I had forgotten how different the DC heroes looked in the forties and fifties. But they have a certain charm about them. And like I said earlier, I can't quite put my finger on it. Why that art style and writing style seems to be very attractive? However, the story flows. Well, and you get to see all the classic DC characters that, you know in love, I wouldn't say I'm DC expert by any stretch of the imagination, but I recognized all the main characters in the story and knew the origins, they were describing the other side characters that they were talking about, even if you're a novice DC fan, you will, like this book, you can pick up the trade paperback and read the entire story in one big volume. You can go online or talk to your local comic book shop and have
Robert Pattinson's Batman Films Are a Trilogy: It's Bruce Wayne in 'Detective Mode,' Says Director
"All right. So this one this story that, that I saw this week. I was very excited to bring into the show tonight, I found it, it, it's not an onion story. And I, particularly think it's hilarious. And you thought it was bad when they announced Ben Affleck, Robert Pattinson is officially the new Batman, the twilight actress set to play the Cape crusader in the Batman director, Matt Reeves film, scheduled for release in June of twenty twenty one Reeves was the filmmaker behind the last planet of the apes sequels athletes starting Batman in two titles directed by San by Zack Snyder Batman versus superman. Dawn of Justice in two thousand seventeen Justice league both films received mixed reviews and we're disappointment for Warner Brothers in its efforts to compete with marvel studios in the superhero. Realm patents in became a star following the breakout success of the five film, twilight franchise in which he portrayed. The vampire Edward Cullen opposite. Kristen stewart's. Bill Swann Jack, you're huge Batman fan, also now team Edwards. Well, okay. So Matt's of bigger, Batman fan than I am. I want to get to this in a moment, but I just had a conversation about this. Earlier today, one there was a great joke. Matt, you'll like this. And somebody said he's the worst vampire ever, because it took him ten years to turn into a bat. That is funny, and I have no problem with it all because the poor guy, I saw his stuff before he did twilight the hell of an actor and then he got pigeonholed into this awful, teeny Bopper, Rama thing that fortunately has given him this thing. He can't live down. So I'm gonna give him a shot. I have no problem with it as a giant Batman, nerd, only because Matt REEs, generally doesn't make crappy movies. So. As movies are really good. He did. Lord. He did the remake of let the right one in and actually generally really good. It's far as remix go, oh, those excellent. Yeah. I mean, he doesn't make bad movies for the most part. So I kind of trust his judgment, and he's he doesn't wanna do the over the top popcorn. Every five minutes and explosion type Batman movie. He wants to do a dark detective Noir story where you are showing Batman, using his skills, I've been wanting to see that in a movie for a really long time. So I'm okay with it. The guys at decent actor. Yeah. I don't know how to do is Bruce, Wayne. I think he'll do fine when he's in the costume you do. Yeah. I think it will. I think it'll be okay I trust Matt Reeves. I mean I don't. You never sold the twilight movies. I've only seen stuff he's done outside light, and it's always been fine.
Batman, Michael Keaton And Adam West discussed on Barsky Radio
"But do you think of patents patent as the new Batman? I saw this. I'm kind of down for it. What is that these economics, right? Yeah. Not your thing. I mean I, I like your right. Not my favorite, Robert Patterson. Who is in these twilight movies. Yes. Apparently, he's going to be the one that's going to be taking over from that. What's his name? Well, Ben Affleck in Africa. Yeah. Ben Affleck was the what happened someone went to bed African said, you just don't want to do this. They wanted a younger guy, I think. No, I think that that's part of it. He they wanted a younger guy and also he just wasn't working for them. You know it wasn't really been afflicted. He did it in two movies. The Justice league. It didn't work the first or second time you're out. They, they wanted to go younger than don't want. See you. Yeah. It really who wants that guy. Anyway. Then Aflac I mean he's a good actor to just, you know, sometimes you don't fit the role, right? And the thing is, if you don't fit the role, then you shouldn't get a second second shot at it didn't work. So then you're out. Let's see who do I like is the best Batman. Michael. Keaton was good. Christian bale was good. My favorite was, obviously, it wasn't the, the movie Batman, but the TV show, Adam. Adam west. Absolutely. I if I had to pick a live action when it's probably Michael Keaton for me. He's, he's my favorite. I like Batman and Batman because he was it wasn't. It wasn't the movie Batman. It wasn't a serious. It was very, very campy, if you watch the TV series Batman from the sixties, it was one of those shows that was made for a kids, but made for Delta's. Well, there were tongue in cheek secret double-entendres there were there were like a jokes or inside things that only would appeal to adults that would go over the kids heads. And let's face it. Adam west was actually pretty funny, even though he didn't mean to be the way he would deliver his lines. He was hilarious. So I don't think they try to capture that in the in the movies and the film. But and there were different directors to who is the Batman that had with a cod piece. So. What was that Clooney's? So it was the first Batman in terms of movies, anyway, was timber, and did two movies with Michael Keaton. Right. And then after that, I think there was a third movie that was with Val Kilmer, instead of Michael Keaton doing, like seven or eight Batman. Yes. And then after that George Clooney. I think two of them, Robin. Batman forever. And neither one of those is very good. Those are the ones that hit the nipples on the bat suit. That's Joel Schumacher. Batman. Yeah. They he succeeded. Was -cluded the gay Batman. Yeah, I think he definitely Clooney's come out and said he played him as a gay character. That's what he was written like to him. Schumacher. That's why that's why. And then and then I mentioned Christian bale. So Robert Pattinson. All right. Well, maybe I guess he'll do good. Yes. Seems like he's been he hasn't done a lot of big movies ever since the twilight one. So most people know him for that, but he's done a lot of good art house movies. Like smaller releases the not a lot of people get to see. And he's, he's a great actor, but he the brooding Batman, another Bruening Batman. So they got the dark
Jason Momoa, Aquaman And DC Comics discussed on Barsky Radio
"Story. The biggest story today is I thought it was the report. But apparently, it is it is the fact that Jason momoa shaving his beard off. Jason momoa was. Interesting shaving his beard. So so was that his thing you'd have a beard. I mean, so his look I mean guys find for whatever it is. I don't think he's particularly talented actor personally, but his claim to fame is that he is a very attractive cut individual with kind of a gruff, look, and he plays a superhero. He he's. Yeah. He played up barbarian character on game of thrones. And then he got the role for aquaman any played aquaman and Justice league. And then in the Auckland movie is that part of your whole deal. No, that's DC. Dismissive Toronto run run thought he was telling Garrett something that you'd be scared say, you know, as a marvel comic nerd, so he thought he was telling you something that that he'd wanna know. And Jason momoa, whatever I was thinking. Wow, you're like dismissing Ron what's that? And now, we know he doesn't replace for the wrong team plays for DC comics interest. I said to my goal. So judging by your reaction, not that's not that big story is well it is you're interested as beard. Dismissive excuse, right. Right. Don't get me wrong. I liked DC movies. I thought I thought it was a very fun movie was fine in it. I just I'm not a big trip back. All
Breaking Down 'Shazam!'
"Finds itself at an interesting inflection point. I would say I thought she was a very fun and entertaining movie, but it did not really feel like anything that had come in the DC universe before. And you kind of explain to me. What should I am is? And what it's trying to do. Sure. I mean, I kind of had the. To do the same thing after watching the movie because like right around the time the post credits scene with a evil Caterpillar happened. I was kinda like I've no idea what any of this stuff is. So thankfully, Mike does have a a piece on the ring dot com. A great website kind of breaking down the kind of Kazan origins. But yeah, he's he was actually originally called captain marvel and like in the movie there was like a wizard named 'schisms who gave him like all these superpowers. But when he sorta got folded into DC comics because marvel had its own captain marvel he then became Zam. But the whole spiel is basically the same thing like the wizards powers you activate it by saying Zam, and then I guess in the big conversion you just become buff, Zachary Levi. Yeah, I didn't even know buff Zachary Levi was going to be a thing that I would ever have to talk about. I can't say when I was watching Chuck ten years ago. That this ever crossed my mind that he would be a superhero, I think Tony Lee. This movie is pretty significantly different from superman vs Batman and the Justice league films and even wonder woman, which I thought was you know, is a very charming and obviously hugely successful movie. But there is a lightness in the tone, and it's not quite as operatic goofy. As was l-. You know, what did you make of the kind of movie that Sam was trying to be yet? No, I thought it was fun at kind of had like almost throwback Amblin entertainment coming of age vibe like something you'd see from like Amblin in like the eighties. But with the caveat that instead of a kid going on venture or something he can just become a superhero. But I thought it was a it was it was kind of an appropriate tone for for the kind of here that this guy is and I kind of like that, you know, a kid like a teenager becoming Kazan like he has like a bit of an aimlessness to him at the beginning. Like, there's not the sort of great power with great with great power comes great responsibility type speech. You just sorta has to learn things on the fly Yemen. One of the first things that the character does after he realizes his powers as he just goes to a convenience store in buys beer and candy. And you know, I it, you know, the movies clearly pitched as sort of what if big, but superhero, and it's very effective in showing us like maybe not with the real world ramifications would be because it's a little bit different in tone in the real world. But some of the like aspirations that you have as an adolescent, and the things that you wish you could do when you were thirteen sham does for the first hour of this movie, and the movie ultimately just becomes a story about like friendship and the way that we act bigger and older than we are. And what we can get away with in that time. And then it does turned into a little bit of a superhero movie. What did you make of the kind of balancing of those tones? Yeah. I mean, I think I did prefer sort of the the first half of the move. In that respect, as you know, there are so many superhero movies out there. And I think for the most part it's sorta gets derivative to when the movie gets the guy discovers his powers, you know, like Peter Parker, like scaling skyscrapers type of thing. But it was fun for Suzanne because it felt very like very genuine response. What if a fourteen year old kids suddenly had powers like, yeah? He would try to buy beer. He would go to script strip club in like beam about the chicken wings because this is a PG thirteen movie. You know, if he's in a world where superman Batman exists, and he doesn't really know. What to do is? You just if he can't find people to save is he just going to he's going to try to make cash and become a YouTube star. It was an interesting approach. But I think like I preferred that half of the movie versus like, the Mark strong shows up with seven CGI deadly sin, archetypes, or whatever. And it's time to punch him a lot. Yeah. I agree. I don't think part was active. It's funny because it feels like a movie like this, which is not exactly a reinvention. But is a is a reconsidering of what these kinds of movies can be still does arrive and its conclusion at the notion that needs to feature a lot of punching and a lot of fighting the bad guy. I'm curious to see if as we grow inside, the D C E U, I guess much like Zam. If they'll ever change the the the approach that they take having kind of the final showdown in the final forty five minutes of the movie that was also one of my struggles. Honestly with wonder woman, which I thought as I said was really clever and well made and then ultimately just turned into Diana fighting a demon monster who was played by David through Lous. What do you make of the decisions that DC is now making to singular is each of their movies? I mean, it's interesting because like, you know, they they did a pretty quick pivot from like fast-tracking their Justice league movie which end up being like relative to the expectations a bit of a bomb for them. Also, it didn't really track critically. But you know, they're kind of like making these films that have this very little interconnectivity like aquaman was only really playing the seeds for Auckland to and I guess a trench spinoff, which I could go on like a twenty minutes handed about the trench about the trend. Can't wait for the trench. And like kind of the same thing with wonder woman sequel in feels that way, which is. To you know, if it does well enough at the box office like affiliates just leading into sham two or maybe like a black atom movie, which is like a sham villain. That's supposed to be played by Dwayne Johnson. If you look at like the C projects that are in the air like a rebooted suicide squad, James Gunn, new bad movie. Perhaps a flash movie there's all these other projects like the one glaring omission is there are no plans to make like a Justice league to and not to say that would never happen again. But clearly like the D C you right now is content. Just kind of throwing stuff out there and seeing what resonates with audiences yet. If you look down there slate, we talked about this a little bit during the release of aquaman, but I was just in add an in Vegas at cinema Khan. And they were very proud of the approach that they were taking telling their stories because the next the next handful of movies. They have is of course, Zam, and you know, they also have joker which is coming in October. Which also feels quite standalone seems to have virtually nothing in common with the movie Lakesha Zam. And then there's also a birds of prey which is. Theon story of sort of five superhero team that will also include Margot Robbie Harley Quinn, and that totally and visually looks completely different from those other two movies. And so they've taken this decision to not just make that flash movie and not just make whatever inevitable green lantern movie. And with the same kind of stormy visualises that that Zack Snyder created, but to just kind of individually each story, which is what a lot of comic books are actually a lot of comic books have separate illustrators. They have separate writers their tones are quite different amazing spider. Man could be quite different from x men and superman could be quite different from, you know, detective comics, and what's going on with that, man. And of course, I guess next year late next year. We'll have the Batman which Matt Reeves Batman movie. Do you know, your your very closely track the comp films for us is it more interesting to you of all of this the fits together or do you like it better? If it stands alone and the movies get to be what they are. Well, I. Kind of like maybe I just have a bit of a marble fatigue. Just because it feels like we've been preparing for endgame like just just forever. But yeah, I kind of like this approach because you know, like, if something doesn't, you know resonate with with audiences like I personally wasn't as big of a fan as as wonder woman as other people were which is fine. You know, I I like parts of it. But, but you know, for the most part people really enjoyed it. And I think you know, it's an interesting approach. I think what will probably be most interesting is with wonder woman command and Zam they've all been pretty well received. And they've made a good amount of money. I'm curious what happens like how the DC EU responds when something flops with critics audiences in the box office. Do they like shake it off? Or if it's like, if it's bracing a certain tone, like, you know, let's say joker is actually quite terrible. And and you know, it's like a Scorsese prestige that. Just kind of doesn't work like will the DC you kinda void being that experimental. Again. I I'm curious to see what happens when there's kind of like a speed bump on the road for them. I am too is an interesting question because it does seem like in with Shas AM and most likely joker and handful of these other movies. They don't come with that two hundred and fifty million dollar production price tag. You know, they're definitely smaller movies with more modest ambitions, at least in terms of the execution of the movie. And so the risk is lower. So if let's say joker is not the sort of world-beating, cultural colossus that many would have us believe this week. That's okay. I think that they could probably survive that. And it's an you're right. It is a really interesting pivot away from all of that interconnectiveness. Is there anything else about his that you you really liked and you responded to? Yeah. I really like that, you know, I thought Zachary Levi was was just so good at like kind of capturing basically like, you know, a kid in a swollen dealt spot ended it so well like there were times where you almost felt to childlike for guy who's still like fourteen years old, but you could tell he was just having such a blast. And and yeah, I would have never expected Chuck would be like a swollen superhero. But I never expected Jim from the office to like, you know, make some hard movie also become buffer like Michael bay film. So I I guess, you know sick. I'm stars. They can transform. Yeah. Could you cast a sitcom debauche sitcom figure into into a superhero movie right now is there? Anybody springs to your mind? Is Jim Parsons our next. Green lantern. You think? Oh god. No, no. I'm trying to think of like if someone from parks and rec ado that transformation that isn't Chris Pratt. Because I mean, he's he's just forget about this point. He's he's like a discount printing. Frazier. But he he has done that as well. I mean, I guess maybe if if Adam Scott were cast as as galactic that would probably that. That's as close as we're gonna get
Drugmaker doubles recall of infant ibuprofen
"And this consumer research and advocacy group did this study and they tested apple grape. Pair fruit plans. They found elevated levels of the heavy metal in nearly half of them. Did you ever get orange juice pushed on you? And your kid I got like grapefruit juice tomato juice and orange juice a little bit. But then when it had all that sugar in it than my mother run a different way. But. Consumer reports tested. Forty five drinks found twenty one had enough of a single heavy metal or combination of metals to concern people who work with consumer reports on this study and just drinking four ounces a day would cause concern because of the compound risk of the what it does. And then you have elevated levels of heavy metals and other foods, so then you put in juice, and it just that's even worse. Okay. So grapefruit juice. Juice blends had the highest level of heavy metals. So just be careful out there. If you're doing the drinking, the juices thing, it kind of makes sense, right? I just had this discussion with the other that we get all that pushed on us about drinking us so healthy. And it's just loaded with stuff. That's not so healthy. I bet you're depressed. That Ben Affleck will not stars, Bruce, Wayne, he will not be the next Batman in twenty twenty one. He's not going to be the Cape crusader. Apparently, it's going to be different. You know, a new movie, but they're going to have to have another Batman. He played Batman in Batman versus superman. Dawn of Justice suicide squad and Justice league. Forgot how many times he did that. So the new one that comes out is going to be in June of twenty twenty one and they're going to focus on a younger. Bruce, Wayne, whoever that's going to be and it is a hard roll to do because the expectation there. What is Batman supposed to be like, and for some reason it can be deadly? For some of these actors to play Batman, or at least it feels deadly. Anyway. Right. Feels deadly tesla you cannot keep us down says, Elon Musk. He's gearing up for the model y crossover and tesla actually made another nice prophet. So it's he's down in the court of public opinion. I think in some areas, but with a debt payment of more than nine hundred million do within weeks, unless the company stock makes the leap Tesla's under pressure to improve its operations through cost reductions faster. Sales. So they made a profit of one hundred and thirty nine point five billion in the fourth quarter. That's up from a loss of six hundred seventy five point four million a year earlier, and after some brutal losses they've gone in the opposite direction. So they they're helping the model why is going to boost all of that. It is a pretty car. But it's going to be hard to make a profit in the first quarter of twenty nineteen unless you know, they're enacting the four hundred million in cost cuts, and that's going to dent the bottom line would think a little bit. But he says Yuan musk that he's still optimistic. Hey, what's the what if he makes like one hundred dollars more we made a hundred dollars over what we expected now that they wouldn't even notice anything. That's that is like a half of a penny. But they've had improvements in manufacturing. They've had some construction things to speed up. And I guess they're they're doing that. You gotta say, the guy's brilliant. Whether he's eccentric or a little nutty. He is absolutely brilliant in some areas. How you come up with this idea? Then all of a sudden, you're in space, and you're launching that and you actually enacted despite the odds being really against you. But you hang in there. There's something about. Hanging in there. Something about that. And he he definitely was that guy that hung around figured it out got the right people on his team got the people back. And yes, there you go. Are you might say, yes? Or no to this. But Glenn Close who's won. A couple of words. Now, this is Hollywood's big season of awards with the sag awards Golden Globes. And then ultimately the Oscars. She says she's down for an update on fatal attraction. So there has been rumors, but will it really happen fatal attraction. I don't know how many years ago that movie was remember it was Glenn Close who became obsessed with a married, man. Michael Douglas, and then they have like this weekend affair, then she boils the bunny goes after him goes after her his kid was crazy. I've thought any man who watches this. There's no way they're going down that path no way. She's seventy one. I mean, it would be where's your life? Now. I guess if they did that and she just earned her seventh. Oscar nod for the wife of movie that came out this past year, and she got her fourth Oscar nomination in eighty eight for playing Alex forest in this movie, fatal attraction that some people would like to see. The second part of it. I guess we do live in the land of sequels if you can find the audience, and you can pull it off, I suppose, this is a good deal. If you've got a child who's fourteen that's really a teenager, but a fourteen or younger, you can get a free seat on a domestic flight on frontier airlines. They've got this thing called discount den. And that's boy, that's pretty big. Because usually it's infants are kids that are way younger. Now, you got to pay for the membership is just under sixty dollars. But if you fly enough that would pay itself off from one flight.
Zack Snyder Returns to Movies After Stepping Away from Justice League Due to Daughter's Suicide
"Excuse me, according to the Hollywood reporter the movie is set to start filming this summer. And more news Snyder announced his decision to step down from Justice league in emotional interview with HR where he also revealed that autumn had died two months earlier in March two thousand seventeen and the he initially went back to work to after her death. He later realized it wasn't what was best for him and his family, and my mind, I thought it was a cathartic thing to go back to work to just bury myself into see if that was. If that was way through it that was a way through it Stanton. Toni T HR the demands of this job are pretty intense. It is all consuming and in the last two months, I've come to the realization decide to take a step back from the movie to be with my family be with my kids who really need me. They are all having a hard time. I'm having a hard time. The director later thanked fans for the support on Twitter after they announced. Thanks for the appointed support. I can't express how much it means to Debbie. An I an honest mother Denise at such difficult times that row automates his daughter from his first marriage to the niece Neider. So that's my story on returning. So we're happy is going to be doing a movie or net flicks. I wish he would come back to DC. Yes. I do. Yes. I do. I wish I could get the Zach Snyder cut the Justice league film. Yes, I do. You're supposed to be two parts. I'm not gonna I'll just start getting agitated let me let it go. So happy that he's back and still goes out to them having to bear your child guy be one of the rougher stays in the world. So our condolences still Mr. Snider, but we're glad you get to work. And I'm looking forward to seeing your new film. Netflix with the chain your wife are making when you when you release it. So. And yes, I like Batman versus superman and I love manner steel. Yeah. I said it more entertainment news after this break. Let's say you just bought a house. Bad news is your one step closer

Come with all of our human bias built in joy, boom weenie researches bias in algorithms at the MIT media lab, she studied AI programs for Microsoft, IBM and face plus plus owned by China-based Meg be g found that all of them make mistakes facial recognition more often. When the person in the photo is a woman or not white and make the most mistakes when you combine those factors. I asked her how this happened. If you look at existing benchmarks. You'll notice that even these benchmarks have major skews. Why this matters this when breakthroughs were being recorded for facial recognition in two thousand fourteen the way, they were. Be able to say they'd made progress was by saying they achieve ninety seven point three five percent. Accuracy on this data set that data said is seventy seven percent male and meeting. Three percent white. Yes, there's the bias that can be in the training data. But there's also bias that can be in the benchmark data sets which are used to validate whether or not something is ready. Does it cast doubt on overall? Absolutely. Because what we have right now is a blind faith in a I that doesn't acknowledge how easy it is for bias to creep into the systems, and at the end of the day data reflects our history, and our history has been very biased today. So we have to be checking, and this is especially important because now we're using artificial intelligence in high stakes decision making deciding if somebody's hired if somebody's granted alone or not. It's influencing college, admissions choices. So what are you most concerned about I'm most concerned about the promise for precision health, you're using data? You're using clinical data. Oftentimes, it wasn't until nineteen Ninety-three. That women were even mandated to be part of government sponsored clinical trials nineteen ninety three mile at right? Even then the information wasn't always disaggregated by sex. Do you envision that? There could be some sort of a technical standard. Yeah. Actually, this is not a pipedream. I am currently leading such as standard with the I Tripoli if a police department is going to let's say put facial recognition on body cameras. Does the community. Now have they had the option to say, yes. Which is why I'm working on putting these standards into place. Merriam-Webster picks "justice" as its 2018 word of the year
"Got going on over there. The merriam Webster word of the year is way inclusion. Oh, no. Liar. No gender. No justice. That was hop. Search. That was a letdown. Seventy four percent. Yeah. It was up by seventy four percent over twenty seventeen pointed out that many of these debates over the past year have involved Justice, social Justice, criminal Justice, economic Justice Justice department Justice league. Here's the Justice league. Right. And legion of doom and Justice Cavanaugh.
Henry Cavill Isn't Done Playing Superman
"What do you think about Henry Cavill superman? I know that obviously he hasn't always been in the greatest movies the greatest like the the movies around him have not always been the best. But what do you guys think about him and his take on the character issue? What do you think I think can rekindle is actually a great superman, and he has not been blessed with good superman movies, but in the there have been moments where you see that there's much potential or him as the hero, especially in amber the first scene for scenes in Justice league. And then when he returns. Justice league. I guess spoilers for people who have not seen. He really shines in that as that character. And you see the the the optimism and the the cheesiness that I think is inherent with superman. So I think that he's been he's good in the role. He hasn't really been given the chance to get a good grasp on the character yet. But I would have liked to see him. Stay just because I think he's good casting. Even if his movies have not been great. It's I mean if Jason memo is right, then maybe we'll see him. Again, brad. What do you think about Cavs performances? I think that capital is pretty good as superman, but the the biggest problem is that he hasn't really been given the opportunity to play the superman that I think people want to see and we got a little bit of a taste of that injustice league where he was a little bit more playful a little bit more fun after he went bad for that CNN and fought everybody else in the Justice league. But at this point, I almost would rather just see Henry Cavill do other things, you know, he was fantastic in mission impossible. You know, he's got that new Netflix series of the winter. Coming up. And so I feel like just letting him go and do something else.
Flash standalone movie pushes start date, eyes 2021 release
"Nine thousand nine with a with a release date for twenty twenty one a around that time. So and because fantastic beasts begins shooting in July during nineteen. It would not have made sense for them to start flash earlier, and it seems that they've kind of put it on the back burner and. Feels like the flash movie is kind of endanger of being sent into the void as the cyborg standalone movie has. And it's one of the long list of troubles at this movie has had on the road to the big screen. I has gone through many directors. Seth Graeme Smith and Rick were the first to board and exit the project within a span of two years during two thousand sixteen currently, John Francis, Daley, and Jonathan Goldstein are attached direct and their parents. Reportedly tweaking the taking the script as of been a now. So they're still plans to do this film, but it's actually a ironically, not been officially green lit by the studio yet. So it seems like they're developing it with a plan to make it at some point, but they don't want to tie themselves to any date. So as of now, we probably won't see the flash until around twenty twenty one. And that's more than that's about seven years since as a Miller was first cast as the flash. Article. The source article of this also notes that one of others seems to be moving past Ben Affleck Henry Cavill for superman and Batman, it makes me wonder, do you think do you think when we actually do get the flash movie that it will be as Remillard as the flash? And mean, that's a good question. I feel like even now as Miller is putting task beasts prioritizing fantastic beasts and doesn't seem to be intent on making the flabby anytime soon. It's wonder, brothers could totally revamped their entire cinematic universe and with an entirely new cast except for wonder woman. And yeah, I don't know. It's possible, especially since Justice league was a little bit of a boxer offices appointment.
Channing Tatum Is Dating Singer Jessie J: 'It's Very New,' Source Says
"Rate to people magazine yesterday and said there was nothing to break up from it was casual the day after she posted the story of him in the car were she's filming it next to him. And he's looking at elk and they're Yellowstone in Montana. Okay. So his this what they insider his publicist tells people there is nothing to spread from as it has been casual and he enjoyed being with her with her, but he's working on himself and being together with her at this time is not something that we're today he will date in the future. But for now is focuses on sobriety family and his next project. So what happened? Radar. Online calls this China, the twenty two year old and she says, they said, you know, we hear you and Ben have split up and just said that's not accurate. So she's coming in the back door taking her through the alley. You can't post anymore insta-. He's like Shana, maybe his publicist home to say this Shana. You've now got up to the magic Mark of one hundred thousand followers on Instagram. Could make a nice living just doing turf sponsored posts a week twenty g's, exactly. And you're going to have to I'll still see, you know, we can still hang out where you're going to have to hide under a blanket in the back of the station wagon when and pulls in anywhere, right? And you can't post anything more about. Okay. So they're still doing it. But not publicly. Oh, wait a minute. Wait a minute. I thought you said she said that she broke up with him. No, no, no, no. The break-up happened his people yesterday the day after her insist story. The day after talking about like, dude. Okay. You go to your ex wife's house who drove you to rehab who's been taking care of. You you go you get divorced in the next day you're spotted with your twenty two year old. Yeah. Ever had to hide in the carpet. She'll be fine. Maybe I'll get up to two hundred thousand dollars. You know, I don't know. But anyway, so there's still seeing each other. But his not out loud in any public way. Sharon, she's not allowed to use the social media sites to post anything. You can't do that. Then they're going to have a really for. Sure. Heartbreak out. Is quick to also she's in people in next week's people because she's got her show camping funny you guys. So funny. I think it's on HBO. I think spin off of a British show. Remember, the last spin off British show that we are so crazy about the Matt LeBlanc half hour episodes. That was a spin off a remake of a British. And that was one of our faith that is a show to watch and laugh and. In front of Hollywood and Matt LeBlanc plane himself anyway. So she was on with we share with less than oh Kimmel Kimmel. Yes. And she brought over a blueberry crumble. And it was just talked about food and faking it was, you know, nothing about peppermint. It was just about camping and organic farming, and she's just so baby food her baby food, but she's very infectious light fall to light. So of course, you know, no questions asked, but she's back in the dating pool. Poor he's going to date again. She's doing great. She's wanna be single. She's opened a dating. So, you know, the story spins publicists have been busy for three and a half years spinning their images. She's winning. Oh, yeah. I'm not a percent. Yeah. One hundred percent. Yes. What Ben's next what he has. I'll tell you. I think he does have some things in the works. But I mean, if he's filming anything right now, I will tell you. Yeah. All right toes. To find out. Brad, Pitt a source tells tell us he's got stuff happening. He does. Well, let's see he's filming city on hill, which is a TV series. And he's also been. Well, he's executive producer Justice league. Now, that's for twenty nine thousand nine he really has nothing in two thousand eighteen and then Torrance, but all that's film. He's producer producer producer Batman. He's a producer acting such a good for the prosecution, which I'm excited to see that was such a great movie producer on that original. Oh my gosh. That was a great production where you know. I bet all of Ben Affleck get an starring and witness for the prosecution Christie novel. Yeah, I just went into it. He's starring in that I think he's also starring in films now it's twenty nineteen. In Batman it stars. He's not directing it stars. Ben Affleck, Joe manganiello, Jeremy Irons, so that's being filmed next year too. So he's back at it. Two thousand eighteen off. Yeah, I guess. And then Brad Pitt's people have been busy have been insiders to people about that. You know, the gal he was with the other day. That's like a co star on the movie Twenty-three-year-old. Yeah, they're not dating. But they're very close. So they're just call like Ben Affleck and his lady. You know, they're they're not dating. But they're very close. I mean, it's it's such a laughably quaint it is way of. Putting it isn't like somebody can't we can't say her keenum to see that their close. They've seen each other with their clothes off. And she doesn't want to meet the kids. And so everybody's fine with that. You know what I mean? Right. Like why Brad Pitt and Ben Affleck have a lot of baggage. It's best to just be the girlfriend who is the season. Whenever it suits. You early so much baggage Perez who wants to meet the kids and all that crap. I don't think that they're not looking for here. So right. They're not looking for any any of that stuff know, what else do we know? Here's a show. No one asks for but apparently is coming to TV to TNT K. Wait. Wait, wait before you go there. Okay. Our TV commercial. The new Mitag commercial has aired last night during game whatever the last game of the series between the New York Yankees. And the Boston Red Sox. The Boston Red Sox were trolling the Yankees. What were they doing? We'll because the Yankees GM was a big we're the only ones who can really do damage to the Red Sox. And so there were just all these teams and stuff. Damage. So we're getting down to you know, getting down to this. The World Series. Seen it. I haven't seen the new one. We did a couple of things. Yeah. Nobody asks for a a live medical diagnosis show meets the view. Can you hear on everybody just clicking out their remotes? Maybe all the people like to Google their symptoms. This. There's the audience may over like it's going to be on TNT. It's a show where people get their ailments diagnosed by a panel of doctors enthusiastic audience. You
