"6 lane on the outside. But my horse is excited too. I remember winning a race in Churchill down when I first came right to him. He fought back and put his head in from and I could feel, you know, right when I turned for home, you know, that I have more under me, but he didn't want to give it to me. And then what I did, we do have to start slowly coming down and like I said, put it in a 5 mode right there. And you know, I knew it was going to be a battle because several nights, it's a whole day, they have a lot of risks where he's being ahead to head and most of the time and that up in the winning side. But I had to use trust my horse at that time. I knew he had a big determination to win that race and he had it down for me right there. Talking with Jackie junior alvarado here on the equine forum presented by twin spires looking back on junior's first win in a breeders Cup race and it comes at a very special moment with a very special horse in Cody's wish. Let's talk about a race. You didn't win, but you were best of the rest, if you will, behind the brilliant flight line, who wins the breeders cup classic by 8 and a quarter lengths. That is a record margin in the 39 year history of the breeders cup classic olympiad ends up second behind him. At odds of 26 to one, I could not believe that olympiad was not getting more respect from the betters considering the campaign that he had this year. Yes, that's what it was. We just talked a little bit before we started the interview. I just, for me, I think that was one of the best race he ever run and we still would just finish second by 8 lanes behind fly line in a course. I never seen something like that, that horse is just an unbelievable racehorse. He got something else that I haven't seen in the horse to wait. He roams what he moves. He's just an unbelievable, but my whole run a great race. I just remember passing the wire like screaming at my horse like congratulating him. I was petting him and the way back after the race, you know, I keep petting him. And I was very happy that he was kind of reacted to me when I was petting him and talking to him. He kind of like saw that we won the race the way he was coming back. He was coming back very happy with his head very high, like very proud of himself. He actually gave me a lot of joy for not having winning that race, but making sure that he was understanding that I was very proud of what he did for me and in that race. He brought you to my ears. I had to my eyes when I was about to jump off of him. Yeah, nobody was going to beat flight line, as you said, he's at a different level. And olympiad certainly deserved a little bit more credit. I think that he was getting from the betters going into this race. And like you said, he ran probably the best race he has run this entire year, and that's saying a lot, considering that he already had 6 wins from 7 starts coming into the breeders cup. And he ran the best race, but he ends up 8 and a quarter lengths behind flight line. John Velazquez after the race joined us on our coverage and he just went on and on about how good flight line really is. Did you get the same sense to junior as you were trying to come up in some way to stay close to him? Yes, what part did I remember that I was that all the sudden I got very excited was when we were by the three quarter poll when we turned the backside and we just passed the three quarter pole like I found my horse, you know, normally my horse is a horse to know how fast it's going. I can pace my horse. I know when he's going to 47 when he's running 48 and I could feel he's going fire he's going like around 47 and change close to 48 and I'm like 16, 17 behind the life is good and flight lines from thinking like they're going to stop. I mean there is no way I mean it is impossible for not a horse I mean doesn't matter how good you are you will have to start with this kind of case you're going. So like I said at that point I'm just trying to be focused trying to rush myself trying to don't get too excited to use remember that they will come back to me and try to be this horse of the world around me because I thought we were going to be it's going to be just a bit too much because I thought those horses were going to come back and eventually life is good, which is an unbelievable horse he had an unbelievable year. I hope you didn't have nothing to prove like very extraordinary horse. He backed up like he should. But the other animal I mean I just couldn't understand when I turned for home and I just saw him keep drawing away and I was like, I just couldn't believe you know at that point I just keep writing because I knew I think it would be an amazing second for us but like while going through my mind like I was still in disbelief like how just hold you skip running and stopping like I guess I have no way. I just couldn't believe that that was still happening. The whole steel was going forward after this crazy pace that he was going to. Yeah, everybody had that same opinion. That's exactly what Johnny said after the race too. He was waiting for them to come back to him and it never it never happened. He just drew off and continued to widen through the stretch. And then one under wraps, which is really incredible, but I loved your story about olympiad and how much that meant to you and I love the way that you let the horse know. Hey, you did great today, buddy. This was awesome. Yes, exactly. I had a great year with this horse. He's been very kind to me. And to be honest, anyone could read in this course would have the same results. You know, I didn't think that I did anything special. It's a very hard to write and like I said, he's been very kind to me to my family. This year and the reason I could do is let him know that he did a fantastic job that he did what I asked him to do. And that he was there for me and like I said, I was just very happy to know the he knew that I was giving appreciation and like I said, he was very happy to know that too. Well, junior closing in on 2000 career wins. And it won't take you long to get to that Mark. I know you'll be there. Maybe even by the end of the year. Who knows? But I'm curious, what do you do for an encore now? You've had one of the best seasons in the history of your career. How do you top this one? It's very difficult. Trying already used to imagine because I

"Picked it at peace as well. We picked the same horse once again. This time in the grade three river city, all 12 races in the books, time now for the naira betts best bets. This is this is the naira beds, best bet. All right, Dave, go for it. Yeah, I don't know if I have one. I mean, I'm gonna give you one because that's the segment. I like a bunch of horses this week in the 5 ten to one range. And if I can just get one or two of them home, I'll have a good weekend. I think the best bet though is diamonds if you do in the smart halo at Laurel. If I get anywhere close to 92 on the morning line for I think the priciest, the best bread horse horse that came out of a race, keenland was the favorite in that race. I think diamonds if you do just might be a bit better than that group. All right, so diamonds, if you do for Dave in the smart halo, one of the three stakes on the Laurel card, I'm going to go north of the border tomorrow at woodbine race number 8, the grade two Bess Arabian. I think the distance of 7 furlongs hits number 6 hour flash drive right between the eyes. She's actually one for one at this distance early on in her career. She's been trying longer distances of late and to be honest, maybe a little bit better competition. Some of these races. And I just think that going a mile and a 16th is a tad too much for her at the graded stakes level competition shortening up to 7 furlongs, plenty of pace to run at. I like our flash drive 7 to two for the team of Mark Cassie and Patrick husbands. Want to remind everybody tomorrow another bang up edition of the equine form presented by twin spires, the baron of the backstretch, Mike penna joined by jockey junior alvarado as he reflects upon his first breeders cup win aboard Cody's wish last Saturday. Classic winning trainer John Sadler talks about flight lines record win. They also hear from breeders cup winning combo of owner Mike ripoli and trainer Todd pletcher, national HBA CEO Eric Hamill back. That's a lot of letters in front of his name. Preview Saturday's claiming crown. The pot of himself, Jude feld, gives you this week's twin spires triple play. "In at naira betts dot com. Look at the promo calendar, hit a trifecta bet on Belmont in the big a and you get a 10% bonus on your winning so lots of great opportunities and we're going to start things off at Belmont in the big a aqueduct, race number three tomorrow, the noble damsel, only drew a field of 5 Jude, but I think there are four horses in here that all have a legitimate claim to being the best of the group. It's not a big field, but it's a competitive group. Small but select as they say, right? Absolutely. I think Christoph Clement holds the aces in here though. He's got two entrance plum Ali with Manny Franco aboard and mesidor with Javier cassiano. They're both really good turf milers and I think the race goes through him. Yeah, I agree with that. You look at Palma Li, he has doubled the earnings of any other horse in the race. He's two for two at the big gate and the only graded stakes winner in here probably 8 to 5 in the morning line messed door two to one. How do you see the race being run? Well, you know, with such a short field, it is going to depend on who's going to make the lead. I think Evie jets will probably go to the front. She looks to me like she's got the most speed in the race. But I think plum Ali is going to get a perfect trip right behind her and then mess the door will be coming late. I picked plum Ali. I just think the resume is the best of the group. Did you like one of the two come out horses better? Well, I mean, you know, I'm a little angry with Manny Franco currently, but I never let that bother my handicapping. I just don't worry about it, but I like plum Ali, the best of the ducal Montreal. All right, one other question, the rail horse kept waiting three to one on the morning line, a horse stretching out from sprint races to go a mile and gets I read or tease when kept waiting has I read Ortiz up kept waiting is very, very successful. Yeah, definitely, you know, most horses are successful when they have router T's on them. But kept waiting is an interesting possibility, Bobby falcone is a very good trainer, as you know, and this horse is consistent, runs hard. I don't see any reason to think that she can't get a mile. I mean, she's run good going 7 for a long. I think she's definitely a contender and kind of lends credit to what you said earlier about four out of 5 horses. Being able to win this race. I guess the horse ignoring is poor knot. But, you know, I think she's got a shot, definitely. Yeah. Interesting race, I think we both leaned towards Palma Lee, but short but sweet as you said. Race number 7 at aqueduct tomorrow is the hill prince, a grade two for $300,000. This is a three year old event. And it just looks to me like there's not a whole lot of speed in here. Yeah, especially going a mile in an 8th, sometimes those horses get out there and just cruise right along, you know? Who looks like the leader nand task at beach? Is that the horse that probably gonna make the lead? Maybe I don't know if I trust Delaware park speed at naira tomorrow, but yeah, maybe nanta beach will be forwardly placed. Was there someone you liked or did you have a kind of theory of this race? Well, I kind of lean toward grand sonata, you know, I'm a big pletcher fan. It's interesting. Junior alvarado gets aboard for the first time in that's not a jockey that pletcher often uses, but he obviously has talent and is good. I just thought grant sonata could lay close enough to be effective at the distance and take it from there. The other horses I liked limited liability. Suge horse just ran third in the Virginia Derby, I don't know if that's good or bad. Yeah. It could go either way. Yeah, another horse with no speed. Shook his two in here, Todd as two in here, Chad as two in here. You mentioned grant's 5 to one on the morning line. If you were playing a pick three pick four pick 5, something like that, how many of them would you need? Well, I mean, I would use, I would definitely use the two grants and I would use the 8 unanimous consent who I think is one of the Chad's horses that has a really good chance. I would use sugar because I don't want to be the guy that gets beat by suge. And the horse that kind of is a question mark that maybe could pop up is the 6 be better pletcher coming off a terrible race in the kurland Gabi 25 links. I think you just have to throw that out was wide on the first turn was eased, I ride hopping on this one, you know, never been on the grass by uncle mo out of a smart strike mirror could like the grass and after the race you don't want to sit there and go, oh my God, I can't believe I got beat by putcher. Yeah, that's actually my pick in the race for basically all the reasons you mentioned. You like grants not I like grants not a two, but why is junior alvarado up on grant sonata

"Good start for Jane graves from that inside post position. Mischievous Diane is right there in between horses and Baba was on the outside. So the three of them right together here in the early going. I will away is running in fourth followed by ruby's in time and it's 5 lengths back to fight on Lucy. Mischievous Diane leads by a half length. Baba's on the outside in second. And then it is a big long shot of will away, who has up into third now with Jane grey down at the rail and in fourth, the quarter 22 and four. Ruby's in time runs in feb for the back, fight on Lucy. It is mischievous Diane, Baba in between horses, a will away on the outside and Justin behind is the favorite Jane grey and alongside is ruby's end time. They head for home now with mischievous Diane, room for Jane grey. She comes on through now on the outside as Baba a wheel away and ruby's in time, mischievous Diane, trying to hold off Jane grey. It is mischievous Diane in front, two and a half lengths. Jane grey all out in second. Mischievous Diane and Dylan, Davis. Jane grey was second. Ruby's in time, up for third. Unofficially four one three 5 in the 7th race at Belmont park final time for the 6 furlongs, one ten flat. Ray handel had mischievous Diane ready to roll off the layoffs. She took the lead and never looked back the favorite Jane grey looked like she had a perfect ride from junior alvarado tucked in saved ground in behind the speed, got clear sailing at the top of the stretch. She just simply couldn't catch mischievous Diane. She was way better than the rest of this field. The top two were well clear of the others, but mischievous Diane just kept on going 22 and four for the quarter 46 and one for the half, sped it up to 57 and four for the 5 furlong split and out the 6 furlongs in one ten flat four one three 5, the unofficial result in race 7 at Belmont park. We're going to take a break. When we come back, we're going to.

"Simplifications even wider than a manual. Looking for room is in due time as they run to the top of the stretch. Emmanuel now takes a narrow lead fighting on dean delivers Hindu time. Oh, that was high yoku clip deals. Ohio cliff heels and unseated gold with him as simplification sweeps up out wide. Simplification is now taking the lead in the fact that you've deemed delivers is so game. He's trying to hold on for second down the center in due time. Emmanuel between simplification for Antonio Sato win the fountain of youth. Second was in due time, a third and a huge price was so captain. There's a stewards inquiry looking at the run to the top of the stretch. We have two routers unseated. Ducky junior alvarado was sitting up and it appears that both horses are up and okay. Well, simplification did his job, he delivered a great two victory and a likely Kentucky Derby birth to his connections last Saturday in the fountain of youth that Gulfstream park. You heard PIL with the call. But his big win was not the dominating storyline of that race. It was the actions of jockey Paco Lopez that stole the headlines and provided us with plenty to discuss. Here this morning on this week's edition of I ask they answer. Plus, the Tampa Bay Derby has produced two Kentucky Derby winners. Is this the year? That prep race completes the hat trick. We're going to talk about those topics and much, much more with trainer Dale Romans and turf writer Tim wilkin on this week's edition of I ask they answer and it's all presented by the university of Louisville, equine industry program in the college of business..

"Trying to hold on for second down the center in due time. Emmanuel between simplification for Antonio Sato win the fountain of youth. All right, so a simplification Antonio Sato, you heard Pete say a scoring the win. In the fountain of youth after that, you know, not great trip, but Jose Ortiz gets them out. I shouldn't say that great trip. He just had a bad start and the other horse is up front, like white a barrio just had everything go his own way. So I mean, it wasn't, it wasn't a bad trip, it was a bad start. He had, you know, I talked about when they made the rider switch was at a did they somehow blame cast a lotto for the slow start. We don't know. We have to that's for us to guess about I guess, but no guessing about the performance. Very nice. Now obviously the spill became way more the conversation than the win. And I think for a lot of us as fans and probably just as anybody viewing a race, you know, when there's a spill like that in a big race, but also close to the end. I guess any point in the race, but closer to the end, I guess, maybe it just feels like, you know, unseats the rider at the start, it changes things, but it doesn't feel so worrisome, maybe. I don't know. But, you know, clipped heels and high oak did with junior alvarado and went down and galt, who was actually the stablemate, so the two Bill mod horses were the two that unseated the riders. Joel Rosario junior alvarado both horses and riders apparently okay, junior, I think, had a sprained ankle and Joel soared back. They both took Sunday off, which made sense, and you know, one of our Jackie Sam camacho leading jockey came off on Saturday and he missed Sunday as well in concussion protocol, so sending out good wishes to Sammy. And to junior and Joel, but seems like all of them not necessarily, you know, they kind of managed to escape serious long-term kind of injury. So good news there and apparently the horses did as well. And good job from the outriders. In fact, my Monday morning message column is going to be kind of a bad outriders and just some of the unsung heroics that go on with some of the work that they do. And so if you want to check that out, edge twiners dot com. So what I was getting at with talking about the spill and that happened and my immediate reaction is just as I said a fan and someone general concern is you look to see if the jockeys and horses get up. Now, they went out of the camera shop pretty quick because when they're at the top of the stretch, you know, by the time the horses take 5 or 6 more strides, like the horses at the quarter pole are out of the picture. And I know that some replay sites, they said they took the spill out. I've always been of the, you know, of the idea that we should have access to replays with spills, especially if we know everybody's okay. It's just, you know, I know that we worry about what the outside world, things like spills are going to happen, and I think we just try to deal with them in the best way possible, but I don't know that just hiding them is the best way, especially for the horse players. But that's probably another conversation for another day. And it's certainly not like a morbid thing, but you want to see who was affected by it. You want to see how it happened, all this kind of stuff. And so, and especially like I said, in light of knowing that everyone kind of escaped serious injury, it feels less worrisome, but again, not my decisions to make. So anyways, so simplification wins. And it seemed like, you know, after the spill, watching the race live, like I kept on watching it, but I didn't, it didn't sink enemy the simplification one. Or that in due time ran second, it didn't, I wasn't watching in due time when the spill happened. I was watching Emmanuel 'cause he was the horse I was most interested in. You know, because I kind of talked him up all last weekend was excited to see how he would do, and he was covering a lot of ground. Kind of right when the spill happened, he was kind of making the lead. It was very short lived. You can actually argue that maybe he never even got to lead. Sometimes the angle, it's a little tricky, but it did look like he poked a nose in front at some point there. And then simplification came right around him. I mean, he circled up 6 wide and had tons of momentum for Jose artes and really one off pretty easily. You know, would high oak have made a big difference in the outcome? I suppose we don't know, you know, he was right there in the hunt. I don't know. I don't think he was ever going to get through for a little while. And as he was waiting to get through simplification, certainly not. So I don't think that the winner was not going to be simplification. Even if the spill doesn't happen. But that's, again, my opinion watching it. I should say everything we talk about on here is mostly my opinion. I'll bring up other people's opinions, but. I don't see simplification losing that race if the spill doesn't happen. And we'll talk about the spill here in a second. I want to talk because believe me, that ended up being the topic of conversation. But in due time, who I guess will probably talk about more later on as well. He was kind of down to the inside. He looked very comfortable in the early stages. He even heard Pete mentioned at Paco found a good spot for him. Fourth down on the inside, just kind of saying he did get shuffled back a little bit as he Manuel started to make that mid back stretch move on the far outside. Who else was up there with him? Oh, that was high out. That's kind of moved up alongside and passed into time. But it was kind of down in that spot. And then as they start to cluster up, obviously things get tight in there. As far as all captain, the third place finisher, he just came from way, way back and got up at 87 to one to finish third, which was kind of crazy. You had a $19 exacto in the trifecta for a buck paid a $1060. So 90 to one shots will do that for you. They'll spice things up. And then Emmanuel finished fourth. I thought Emanuel is going to finish second there for a second, and then into time came with a pretty good run late too, by the way, in due time..

"Best bet. This is the naira bets, best bet. Take it away, bob. Well, you know one thing we always talk about on this show is I think we definitely feel there's three or four odds on shots that are going to win tomorrow. Obviously the best bet to me also implies value and the best value plate to me is howling time tomorrow on the fountain of youth as we talked about. We both picked him. He's 15 to one in the morning line. I don't think we're going to get that price if he's live. I hope that he's live on the toe board. In fact, I'd be very comfortable when I first saw the odds for the fountain of youth if he was more like 8 or 9 to one. I still think he's been going to be a good price. I think he's a very talented horse. Definitely a horse that I'm keying on through throughout the entire first part of the season amongst the three year olds and so my pick is howing time, my best bit of the week. All right, I'm going to do something we don't normally do. My best bet of the day is a great at stake that we didn't talk about race 13 tomorrow at Gulfstream park this here comes the bride. Number two, mischievous kiss 6 to one on the morning line for Bill Martin junior alvarado, I'll be singling her in my horizontal plays. I think she's going to get the right trip and she's the right price for me. I like your pick, though, of howling time, bob. And I don't care if anyone bets him. I hope he's 25 to one. Me too. In the race. Let him just win. I'm not worried about what other people think of him. I'm more only worried about how he does and how we bet him. So bob likes howling time I like mischievous kisses our best bets on the car. That wraps up tonight's edition of the weekend takes preview presented by nyra bets tomorrow a spectacular addition of the equine form presented by twin spires. It's big cap day. "Jump ahead to the 7th race on the Gulfstream card. It's the grade three kitten's joy for three year olds going a mile in 16th on the turf. We've got a field of 8 here, Dave, where'd you end up? Well, I think this is a really interesting paste race because I think you can pick a lot of different horses, but we've watched the turf at Gulfstream park over the last several weeks and you want to be sort of close to the lead and there's not a lot of speed in here. That means to me coinage coming out of the breeders juvenile turf should be in a good position forwardly placed, but coinage ran into royal spirit. Now it was a while ago back in September at Monmouth park and royal spirit finished ahead that day, a $450,000 sun into mischief for Todd pletcher and Mike napole. Yes, royal spirit only has one career victory. But I like what they're doing with this horse. It's been aggressively spotted. It wanna maiden race last time out. I think the mile in a 16th will be just fine. That's where I went. If I get 5 to one, I'm thrilled and what I think is a race that can go a variety of ways, but I want someone near the front. Okay, I think you're right that coinage has a big chance, but I'm going to finally pick somebody different than who you picked in the race. I'm going to use number two coinage. There are four horses in this race who are already stakes winners in their career. And I'm going to try to beat all of them with number four speaking scout for gram motion and junior alvarado. He was a flying second last time out in the pulpit, a race that I think was supposed to be a mile on the turf, but was accidentally run at 7 and a half furlongs on the turf. I think that's what happened that day. He came from well back and was wide and just really didn't have things his way and still only missed by a head that afternoon. I'm hoping that junior alvarado can find some sort of ground saving trip. He's never ridden this son of mister speaker before. And even with that, not so great trip on the turf last time out. He almost won. And he gets a little more distance to work with, which I think will help his chances speaking scout for me, coinage for Dave in the grade three kittens joy race 7 tomorrow at Gulfstream. We're going to take a break. When we come back, we'll look at three more big stakes on the Gulfstream card, including the featured grade three holy bull. You're listening to the weekend stakes preview presented by nyra bets on the horse racing radio.

"South Florida this time of year and you know whether that's as true as in past years, it just seems like these early ones, it's not the heavy hitters and they kind of come back for the wood memorial and because usually it'll be somebody who is pretty good down in South Florida that will go up for the wood and stuff like that. So I guess I just didn't find this race all that impressive in terms of a Derby prep, but certainly a nice win for a cove assayer. Over at Gulfstream park, they had a stakes laden card as we're full fledged into the old championship meet here and obviously no graded stakes races, but I always liked this car. The mucho macho man card because we're coming up the holy bowl still a few weeks away and to me this is a little bit of the start of that whole series and the a mucho macho man stakes. At a mile, the one turned my Gulf Stream a 150,000 up for grabs. And a heavy favorite here is strike hard ends up getting set off at four to 5 for junior alvarado and trainer Matthew Williams. Williams a pretty small time trainer. I mean only 50 starts in the last year plus and 56 starts and one 5 of those. And so obviously a smaller operation, but this horse was a good maiden winner back in August Gulfstream park came back in one an optional 75,000 in fine form and beat Skippy or Skippy's long stocking in their last start together, so obviously some new shooters from this division showing up as well. Simplification for Antonio Sano was a crazy big winner in the maiden race back on in October and then last time out was one to 5 against optional 75 and didn't hold on after a pressured pace, but let's take a listen back Pete's call. The mucho macho man. Racing and the mucho macho man. A clean and level beginning. Soon after the start, mister rum runner went hunting and advantage from strike hard is put into play by alvarado, emerging between horses simplification with skipping longstocking on the outside. Sia is a no hurry early with graphic detail. He's second last and the early trailer is the long shot sport pepper out of the shoot onto the main track and here's simplification striding forward to take a clear lady. He leads by a length, strike hard is down at the inside Skippy longstocking on the far outside and mister rum runner between them. Then it's a length and a half to graphic detail and two and a half to the trailer, sport, pepper. The opening quarter reasonable enough, 23 and three, less than 5 for launch to run. Simplification has the lead by half a length. On the outside Skippy long stocking is their second mister rum runner is now third. Up to the outside graphic detail begins to launch his bid, getting shuffled back strike hard. He's back to 5th, but he's still in range. He's only four legs off the lead. Alvarado wants someplace to go. The trailer and not keeping up his sport pepper and the leader is simplification. 5 sixteenths from home simplification held together by castellano in front three parts of the Skippy longstocking second graphic detail. He launched a bid, but now he's flattening out. Meanwhile, strike cards trying to knife between horses. He's got run, but no place to prove it yet. Three quarters, one O 9 and four, there's less than a quarter of a mile to come. Simplification has the lead by two and a half. From out of the packet, strike hard up into second, but simplification, he has more. It's simplification and Javier cost a lot of authoritative winners of the mucho macho man. They want to buy three and a half while never threatened. So a nice win for simplification that I thought maybe just a tale of trip more than anything. Last time out against winners for the first time, it was 6 fur long, so it makes sense the price was maybe a little bit more pressured hot, but it was contested too. I mean, 45 and four isn't like the craziest half mile at Gulfstream park. I mean, they basically went the same going to mile, but the difference between being pressured and unpressured to me is such a big factor and this horse I think just got the trip this time and didn't necessarily run back to the one O three Brisbane number we saw in that wind two starts back. In fact, got a 90 buyer, though. I mean, that's 90 buyer this time of year for a three year old. That's not joking around. That's, you know, that's a good performance. Now again, is this a horse that's just going to need that ideal setup every time? Because of polygamy as you go on and on if they go towards the holy bowl or the mutual management. The fountain of youth doubtful that you're just going to be able to coast up front, right? Like this. And like I said, those were odd fractions, but it was an unabated un push trip, but like I said, the number came back for real and we will see what happens with simplification because that's two dice wins for the San Antonio Sano traine. The dania beach ran sonic one in a race. I did not think grand sonata was gonna win turning for home. That was a Todd pletcher exacto with chance so, but chance so was just cruising up front. Just total cruise control the whole way, kicked away in the top of the stretch. Gingrich and Paco Lopez took a run at chance so turn for home, but like you see that quite a lot, right? Like the horse that's cruising up front. Somebody takes a crack at it, but once they straighten away and switch leads, it's like the other horse has already been used for an 8th of mile or three sixteenths of a mile just to get up there and you have the horse who was coast and who had been used at all and a chance so kicked right away. I just thought that race was over. But grand sonata and Tyler athlete getting up in the final jump to a score in the Adina beach. Where who else did I want to talk about? Askew. I don't want to talk about excuse I thought a bad favorite that won the car. But the live house stakes lightning Larry was over at Tampa at its last start and it finished second in one of our little stakes. The lime house stakes this time, though, wired a wire, and I never looked back. Another one who I thought had a pretty advantageous trip had to go faster than the one we're talking about with simplification, but this was a shorter race so it makes sense and that was able to hold on. Where'd it go? The Ginger brew steaks. It was a little love and luck, Paco Lopez getting the score for Mike D, another Tampa Bay guy and at any going down and winning a $100,000 takes race from off the pace again another horse who I didn't think looked a winner, turn it for home and just able to get up and get the score. The cash on stakes it was Kathleen O, for shook mcghee a very, very big winner. I think a lot of folks could be excited about that one just because of the performance. And whatever should gets a good one, I feel like people get excited and start talking about it. She got a 78 buyer figure for the effort, which for three year affiliate this point is okay. It's certainly not the 90 the simplification ran in comparison for the boys. But yeah, fun day out of Gulfstream, a fun weekend. And as I said, definitely on a week ahead, we're going to be joined by Joseph migliori tomorrow's show, agent to determine McCarthy, but to also bloodstock agent banana his own will talk with Joe MiG tomorrow show, Daniel said, teno joins us a little bit later on in the week and we will do some horse player talk and a little bit of weekend preview on Thursday. The entries come out so we can certainly give a little gloss but I'm not gonna just I won't have time to take a huge look at them unless they're places that put entries out early like our friends at fairgrounds, Sam Houston and others who are kind enough to give us 5 or 6 days instead of the normal three day thing. But a little bit of a quiet week in terms of the stakes racing action, sunshine millions coming up in a couple of weeks. It has the Cal cup day. It's not really as big of a deal as it used to be.

"And watched him call a race, Pete is incredibly good race collar and it's so funny. I asked him, because he said they're talking with us, and there's like a minute to post. I'm like, do you need to memorize feels like, no, I got them. It's like, okay. Like, you haven't really looked at them, and then calls the race, and I think he looked at his program once during the whole race. He's just got a memory that's insane, but such a sweet guy. I love Pete and so I'm very biased in my praise of him, but it was really cool to get to see him. And what else did we do Dani Gulfstream park? Well, we saw an incredible performance in the finale, which was a first time starter for the Clement barn. So the other thing I wanted to talk about in regards to Gulfstream was the torpedo because it seems like it's I feel like most people thought it was going to be a just in case kind of thing. So when the races are off the turf, they go onto the Tapia. And that was actually the case on Sunday, but they are actually carting a number of races for the tepid and they're doing it throughout the car. It's not like all the torpedo races are really like, I've noticed it at Tampa, like our racing secretary Allison, who is also our secretary at colonial. Like they tend to run usually one, two or three dirt races early on, usually it's the smaller field dirt race, and then after that, it's kind of turf dirt turf dirt. And that's not always the case. There was a couple back to back turfs, but racing secretaries tend to have kind of their habits that way. I remember for years, this is before Martin panza for years though. You can count on the third race at aqueduct or Belmont like being like a really good small field allowance. Like it was like clockwork. And just like for years in Southern California, the last race of the day was kind of a 12 horse field, cheap maiden race, like it just, it was just, I mean, you could count on it. And there's I talked to a few different people with varying opinions on the torpedo. In fact, I was talking to a guy there. And I said, you know, he got something this racy. He's like, nah, I don't know the synthetic yet. I'm waiting. I don't feel confident with it. And you know, I don't mind the synthetic. And I've kind of said that, you know, I like Golden Gate and all this kind of stuff. One thing I will say that at least frustrating as a race viewer is and I say this as someone who's watched fair bit of races. I've watched a lot. I have a lot of trouble kind of telling how my horse is going. If I'm really focused in on a horse and there was a couple times yesterday in the to Peter races, I keep saying yesterday. I'm recording my you guys know the drone. According Monday for Tuesday. So it was Sunday. But I'm watching them, and I'm like, it looks like traveling pretty good. And then very, very slowly, but surely, you're like, oh, maybe it doesn't have anything. No, he doesn't. No. And then all of a sudden he's back into the pit. And you're like, oh, wait, maybe. It's like the gift with that girl who drinks the kombucha where she's like, yeah, no, maybe. Yeah. I can't get a feel for how they're traveling. That's not to say, I don't like it for handicapping, 'cause I feel like sometimes my handicap opinions on it have been fine. But just from a race viewing standpoint, I feel like on dirt, I have a pretty good idea by the far turn. I mean, really, I feel like I have a good idea by the middle of the backstretch. If my horse is running at all, and if I have a shot, and by the far turn of the three 8s, I feel like I have a decent idea of like, look, it's down to these one, two or three. And with the pita, it's just for me, it's not like that. There was a couple where I'm like, oh man, they just walked on the front end and these going good. And then you just swallow it up. And it's not like it was some bum. It was a horse with a good possibilities. But I talked to a couple people and, you know, the opinions were not positive, but I mean, like I said, I get where they're having them for the braces off the turf. I like that. I think people are I think they're getting more of those races than we were expecting, or at least a lot of horse players were expecting. And maybe that was kind of always the plan. Not sure. We'll see though, but yeah, it was a great time going down there. A lot of fun, the weather was good. Margo, my boss had a horse in down there so we got to go in the paddock and talk to kisha Courtney for a little bit, said hi to her. We'll probably get her on the show. I would assume sometimes soon. I feel like we have a case on usually once a year, and we haven't had it on for a while. Brian nadda, who's doing a TV there with Ron nicoletti, talk to Ron. And Ron goes, I thought you were on the West Coast. I forgot about Tampa. Good to see you. Ron is a very, very sweet guy. So it was neat to see him. And got to junior alvarado was riding for Margot, so I got to shake hands with junior, which was cool. And yeah, just enjoyable day. Gulfstream.

"Edition of the Jason beam horse racing podcast brought to you by twin spires and ignore what you heard in that commercial. We are not a 5 day a week show. I got to redo that. But again, it's a holidays. I can't Brian griggs, producer to the stars to cut new commercials over Christmas. Can't do it. But we will get that done eventually. Sooner than later. How about all guarantee by the end of January? We will have new new accurate timely commercials. It's on my to do list. Continuing to look back at some of the weekend racing action and Gulfstream park. Of course, the rampart for the Phillies and mayors and it's hard to it's hard to give up the weekend preview show when I give you such stone cold mortal locks that pay 6 80 like dance dioro did. Here's Pete's call. Racing in the rampart. Sent from the inside all worthy with dance doro moving tour up on the outside grandbaby won't be far away, but the leader will be danced doro as they link up with the main course. Grand baby yummy outside all worthy driving through with the rail far outside and dream Marie alvarado wants her close early. The early trailer is Queen nakia. Out of the shoot onto the main track, dance doro leads for harmony and leads by an act. Barrios keeps the pressure on with grand baby in second, all worthy white blinkers moving through under a loose rain. She's a joint third alongside the gray dream Marie who's out in the center two back to don't get cozy in the early trailer as queen nakia. Quarter time reasonable enough 23 and four, 5 furlongs yet to go. Dance doro three parts of length. Grandbaby is second, two back to all worthy and third. Dreamer is out in the center while racing in fourth and don't get cozy and queen nakia is still far back. The opening half mile was 45 and four, they leave the back stretch and move on to the four turn and the rampart dance doro still clear length and a quarter all worthy after rail is now trying to challenge for a second. Grand babies alongside her. Junior alvarado trying to get dream marita shift gears. She's fourth while covering ground two back to a rail running queen nakia don't get cozy at the back and the wrap the top of the stretch. Three quarters and dance doro's favor and one O 9 and four green just got floated into the parking lot, so dad's doro just an 8th of a mile from home in four on top, all worthy is second queen the key and don't get cozy or showing some late interest. Don't get cozy tries to reach dance doro dance door all close to home on a clear lead, and she's the rampart winner dance doro by almost two in the end. Talked a little bit earlier about the doswell race and handicap and the pace and trying to figure out who was going to get the lead and how does will ended up getting the lead and looked so good doing it and all that kind of stuff. Well, this was one of the ones where on paper it looked like there was nobody else that was going to get the lead. There was just no other real true speed in this race. You know, grandbaby and dreamer Marie were kind of close up for a little bit coming out of the shoot there, but in reality dance door all was traveling well under Michel hire me and gets the win for trainer Ralph Nick's glad to see Ralph having some good success. Obviously, the passing of his dad recently saw was happy for the next bar to have another nice score and they win the rampart stakes. Non graded rampart stakes. For some reason I thought it was. The suwanee river, it was sweet Melania, who shifted she cleared off, got the lead, I think as expected and sweet Melania just sat in second and they were one too, the entire way around between Melania ended up wearing her down grinding it down for an almost 7 to one win and sweet Melania I feel like we obviously was very prominent as a two year old Philly when she was one of the jessamine almost one that juvenile Philly turf let it mid stretch before getting caught by sharing late. Came back as a three year old won the wonder again. God knows out in the Lake George up at Saratoga and then kind of went south for a while. They tried the kiwi too. She got thump there. Gave some time off came back at Gulfstream in the sand springs and ran okay, had the lead early on, and just got ran down, but finished off the board, terrible effort at Belmont sprinting and then optional Saratoga third, but a couple of seconds in which founder spot and just set kind of a good clean trip and ends up getting a nice win for Johnny V and Todd pletcher. The Todd stir don't don't sleep on the tots. He's been hot lately. It seems like every time I look, his horses are winning and running well, which, you know, I know that that's been the case for 20 years now, but it seems like a little more so than normal. How about we'll say that. But yeah, fun Saturday at a Gulf Stream, obviously the championship meet kind of getting into full swing. Let's real quick talk about the feature over at Oakland. It was a nice card out of Oklahoma, Saturday. Obviously, the weather God's not cooperating as much over Hot Springs, a little bit of rain in the course muddy throughout much of the car. There was that really good allowance race in mucho. We had John Ortiz on the show last week a little. We used to call it barn karma when we were on our show was the barn because people come on the show and they seem to win races.

"They do a great job there on FS two America's day at the races. Well, speaking of New York, we will start with the Saturday action in New York, Dave, and the great two sands point on Saturday goes as race number 6. These are three year old Phillies going a mile in one 8th on the inner turf, the purse here is $200,000, nice field of 8 set to go to post. We heard there the stretch call of the 2021 jockey club oaks invitational won by Santa Sara runner up that day in the Philly who was actually favored in the race. The Chad Brown trainee higher truth, hired truth never runs a bad race, and she will be favored in the sands point tomorrow. One of two fur Chad Brown in here along with fluffy socks and both of them are completely reasonable. Higher truth, couple of wins and 6 starts back to back, runner up performances, fluffy socks ran second in the Lake George at Saratoga in July, went out west and ran third in the del mar oaks in August. I think this is a pretty wide open event Jordan's Rio for Todd pletcher number two, I think, is possible as well. I ended up with harajuku the three. Here in the first race in North America, you heard it a moment ago finishing third behind higher truth. But ara juku had the more difficult trip I thought, I think second race in North America for Graham motion is a really good angle. And I think the horses that harajuku is running against in Europe might be a touch better than these. I don't love the cut back in distance to a mile and an 8th, but in a wide open event, I'm gonna go with harajuku. The other thing that I was worried about with harajuku, in addition to the in addition to the cutback and distance that you referred to, is the rider change. She goes from one of the best riders in the world in Ryan Moore, to a guy who is not one of the best riders in the world. He's a good writer, junior alvarado. He's having an awful time of it at Belmont park and really overall in 2021. He's actually winning 12% of the time at doma. So that's not an awful time. That's probably right where he should be. But he's only 7%, actually, I'm sorry. He's 7% at Belmont park. He's 12% for the year overall. So it's been a slow start at Belmont three wins from his first 41 mounts. And it worries me a little bit that in a race this big that there wouldn't be a quote unquote bigger named rider on this gram motion trainees. So it doesn't mean she can't win. And you know what? You're probably get a better price because of it. If one of the Ortiz brothers or Joel Rosario or John Velasquez or you know, whoever you want to say, Louis Sia is we're aboard harajuku she probably be lower than three to one, where she is on the morning line, junior alvarado. You get a little bit of a better price. I thought higher truth was the one to beat. I don't think she's a standout in this spot, but she just never runs a bad race and I rad's gonna try for the first time. His brother Jose has ridden this daughter of Galileo the last 5 times that she's run. The Philly that really intrigues me Dave and I couldn't pull the trigger to put her on top, but I'm gonna be using her on every ticket is number four runaway rumor for Jorge Abreu and Jose lazcano. She's another one that's never run a bad race in her life. 6 career starts three wins a second a third and a fourth place finish. The first three or four starts of her career, I think are as good as anyone else in this field. And the last two times she's run. She's been caught a little bit wide and she just is kind of not kicked it in as well as I thought she would have. And I admit I've been kind of chasing this Philly. So if you I like her, don't you have to fluffy socks a little bit? Well, I have her in the Lake George. The fact of the matter is is that I like a lot of them in this field. It's a very evenly matched field. But price wise, first, I think the one you can count on the most is higher truth, price wise the one that intrigues me the most is runaway winner. It doesn't mean I don't think harajuku can win. It doesn't mean I don't think Jordan Jordan's Leo or fluffy socks can't win. Obviously plum Ali has races that make her very dangerous. She's another one that really just hasn't come forward since when she was a two year old Philly. In fact, she hasn't won since she was a two year old. So a lot of different ways you can go, I'm going to be using fours and 5s, though, in these sands point, it's the grade two sands point goes as ray 6 tomorrow at Belmont park. Over at keeneland, the feature race of the day is the grade one, Queen Elizabeth II challenge cup, three year old Phillies running a mile in an 8th on the turf, and the purse is $500,000 now. I'm actually in Lexington, Kentucky right now, Dave. It's been raining most of the afternoon today. It is supposed to rain throughout the night. It's supposed to be gone by 6 a.m. tomorrow. Now they did run on the turf today at keeneland, despite it raining most of the afternoon. We'll see what happens with it raining all night. My guess is with this ween a grade one event that they will at least run this race on the turf hopefully they just keep the entire card tomorrow on the turf. But I wouldn't be surprised if it is less than for the Queen Elizabeth II challenge cup. And once again, a good field of Phillies here going to post. We've got a field of ten and Chad Brown, as always, has a say in these races. He may have the two favorites in the race. They're not favorite on the morning line. Number four Empress Josephine for Aidan O'Brien is three to one on the morning line, but the second and third choices are Chad Brown trainees chantel Sara and technical analysis. And you know when it's Chad Brown and Mike dub like Shanna sorrow or a Chad Brown and Clare of its Staples like technical analysis, those are among the better horses in his barn. I think both of those make a lot of sense. I like Empress Josephine better than this field. I thought last time out in the First Lady at keeneland, she ran a strong maybe not spectacular third. I thought the race is in Europe. We're really good. If it's a little soft, I think that's a good sign. I don't think she's gonna be dramatically overbed. I think you're gonna get something in the 7 to two range. I think she's better than this field and I think she'll win. The one horse that intrigues me the most is ain't no Brian's son, and he's got several sons in training and they've beaten him occasionally even in North America. Nicest number 5, ten to one, I think that's a really good price on that horse. Probably gonna play underneath might not win the race. I like Empress Josephine best. I think necessarily good value. Okay, so Empress Josephine no. Four for Dave also using number 5 nicest basically Euros in here. I'm going to go with the USA contingent, I like Santa Sara. I think slightly over technical analysis..

"Any reason biz biz. Buzz can't even better second time out than he wasn't his debut and he's one of a few in here who have shown a good ability to pass other horses. And i think there should be an honest pace in here so biz biz buzz to be rolling from off the pace for me sunday in the grade three fraternity fifth race. The belmont park card. Sixth race on the card. Sunday is the grade to belle dame phillies. Mayor's going a mile and an eighth. Of course it's a one turn mile and an eighth at belmont park a quarter million dollars on the line one of two big stakes races on sunday for the fillies and mares bell wjm at belmont the spinster at keeneland so There are probably some runners in this race. That tried to stay away from lotrowska. Who will run on sunday keeneland and in doing so they make a field of eight going. This one turn mile and an eighth at belmont park. And you've got the ultra consistent runner royal flag drawn on the outside for chad brown and joel. Rosario and no question they'll be happy not to see the true ska running a wail of a race yet. Still finishing behind that rival in the personal ensign last time out at saratoga won the shufi in july at the spa after a fairly lengthy break after running a close second to bonnie south at keeneland in april. Royal flake is my choice. I think without good trubisky incur- she is the toughest the most battle-tested i like she'll come just off the paste. I respect harare gist. I'm just not sure. Twenty twenty one form is quite good enough. She's going to have to run back to the way. She was running last year when she was a great to race at belmont. In fact it was this very same great to race at belmont or one. The molly pitcher at monmouth. And i'm a little bit interested in zahed gel with todd pletcher and many franko. I don't know what exactly to expect first versus older but perhaps if the race can be one upfront then some gel could be a factor but i think royal flag is the classiest and most accomplished of this group. I agree with you. And i think she's going to get the right trip on the outside. The pace should be fair. Not necessarily really fast. Corologis can be close to the pay. She's shown speed last two but she doesn't have to be on lead. I think ms marissa's more likely to be the one who's definitely up there. And if corologis decides to go. I think marisa miss marisa will press from the outside but trusting and joel rosario not to keep royal flag too far out of it if the if the pace is not hot. I think he will do that. And especially with that benefit of the outside post royal flag for me as well in the grade to build amri six on the sunday belmont card skipping ahead to race number eight. Good one here. The grade three hundred fifty thousand dollar knickerbocker knickerbocker easy for me to say three year olds and up going a mile and one eighth on the turf at belmont. Nice field of nine here. dave. And i don't think we'll have a heavy favorite here. It's pretty wide open. I think you can make an argument for almost all nine of them in the field. Only to have graded stakes wins field. Pass on the rail. For mike maker and dylan davis and corelli for jonathan thomas and junior alvarado. This is a really open race. A lotta options. The two that. I liked the best or breaking the rules for shook mcgahey and joel. Rosario really likes that last race offer lay layoff off a long layoff coming from behind winning one hundred thousand dollar optional optional claimer at saratoga second off a layoff and i think will like the stretch out here. I could say almost the exact same things about sacred life. Who is my choice for. Chad brown and mike dub its third author. Layoff last time out just loss to the to breaking the rules. I think has more back class to go on and more than anything. I really think the mile that secret life ran in each of his first two races. This year is a little bit short. I think he does his best racing at a mile and a sixteenth and a mile an eighth and i think he'll be coming late. I think both of those horses will become an late and it should be really really fun. Edition of the knickerbocker. I believe it'll be a good stretch battle as well. And i picked sacred life on top to for everything that you said the only thing that worries me about sacred life. I'd love your input on. This is the trip. He's going to get because as you mentioned. He's a horse. That likes to come from a little bit off the pace not necessarily from ten or twelve links out of it but four five six lengths off the pace last time out. He was as far as nine and a half lengths back and missed by a half. A lengthy may have been just too far back in too wide that day to get up but if you glance through this field. It's hard to figure out who's going to make the leader epic bromance has shown speed at times but he makes the lead when the pace is ridiculously slow. I really wouldn't call him pace as he. He's making the lead when they're going forty nine seconds for the half. Nyc has been up close to the pace when they're crawling along as well so i can't figure out who is going to set it up for sacred life or do we just need sacred life too late closer than he's been laying. I have a very good friend who i sometimes partner with on bets that says in a race like this. If you can't find the pacesetter you better bet anything. That looks like they're going to be in the front because maybe the the race will just fall apart for them. Nyc led this race for a long portion of it last year. You mentioned there was no pace. There were only five horses and still couldn't make but you're right epoch. bromance nyc should be forwardly placed. and maybe doing it. At pretty slow fractions. So we're kind of going against the the general theory of pace handicapping here and that we're still. We're selecting a runner who figures to close in a race where we know that the pace is not going to be that great. We're just trusting sacred life. Listen this is a race where i admittedly do not have a very strong opinion. It's a spread race for me no sacred life. Because you know this is what we're supposed to do. We're supposed to make a pick in these races. If i if i say i'm using numbers one two three five eight. That's not really helping anybody. Also i am picking sacred life very hesitantly. He is my top choice in the race. Sounds like he's dave's top choice doesn't sound like it's a real strong play for either of us but sacred life in the grade three knickerbocker race eight on the sunday card at beautiful belmont park. We'll take one more break when we come back. We'll have the keeneland will head to woodbine for some more graded stakes action. You're listening to the weekend. "Many vacation days she'd have Depending on your how long have you been working for the company i saw. James year are our resident Cincinnati reds expert. I've been watching following the joey votto run that he's been on. Have you seen anything like that. Awhile i tell ya. I love it i mean and you know we need it with kathy beyond those being out You know we're going to. He's going to be back here soon. But yeah. I mean they were talking about it. I was watching some of that cubs game in the olympics. Last night Yeah just going. After his first one you know he had back to back the night before and then After his first one last night it was like circling the bases. He put one finger up to the bench. Like this is the first one tonight not to laugh. Then i thought and when he hits one boy the best way crazy yeah he's the first guy for cincinnati reds the ahead to To home runs in consecutive games. It's johnny bench. Back in the heyday of the big red machine. So yeah i just really. The reds offense is just phenomenal. I mean they are such a jekyll and hyde. And because they're pitching staff wall they had their moments times they could just be flat out. Atrocious the bullpen especially. So they're out there hitting you know they can be as good as anybody in baseball. They can really score. I've actually started watching a little more baseball lately When i was in louisville for that week i watched a couple of reds games. They were playing the brewers that week. And then when. I got since i've gotten over here Where they airbnb. i'm staying at they. Have you know cable package or whatever and you get all the orioles games. So i've been watching the baltimore orioles. Who were terrible. But it's i'm kind of enjoying getting into the routine of at least watching baseball. 'cause i really didn't watch for like ten years twelve years or something like that and so it's a kind of a nice part of my summer. Yeah that's awesome and you're doing some good work right now in virginia keeping me busy it was funny chiappa. Who will talk to could. He sent me a text message. he goes man. I played that late. Pick four on tuesday. He goes through some big fields as they make me or my check here colonials jap. There's no No mail it in with with five. Horsfield's james you mentioned the the olympic. So what do you got to go to events. You watch you just kind of like in every night. Hey whatever's on we're gonna watch it. Yeah pretty much that you know. I mean there's some things that i enjoyed that more than others but Yeah just you know. I've watched Watched them finals Just this afternoon like ping pong and some different events. You know i you know i. I don't like romanticize about like the kid of the wacky. When i was in kid. Because i'll be honest i was in college and younger. There are a lot of through a lot of times when it was on every four years. And i just didn't watch much of it because i was doing other stuff but now that i've sort of older more relaxed i don't mind i enjoy sitting back and watching it and i think it's pretty cool every four years for every five years this year. Yeah yeah this years. of course. everything's a little bit wacky. I watched a the women's powerlifting weightlifting today. Majd sharon who's this Canadian lifter won the gold medal. So that was my first olympic event. I watched this year. We should talk horse race and james. I know listeners. If i go more than three minutes of non racing they they tune out over to foretell show. So i got to. I kind of stick to the stick to the script and the saratoga weekend of course I know there's been big races each of the first two weekends. This feels like the first like kind of big card. Am i right on that or am i am. Am i being stupid. That they're all big cards. Absolutely i think so. I think there's a general surrounding S you know. Essential quality You know this is be his travers. Tuneup everybody's really excited to see him. Run the morning on maker. And the jim dandy Made him a generous Wanted to I'd be shocked if he was And he's gonna be a wanted on on the toe board. He might drift up the glass. Second a wonderful job but Yeah he's going to be an overwhelming favourite against this. But i think he really a lot of these regulars in the field like Labor or keep in mind or aren't really fast enough to beat him. Mass parades a little bit interesting. Can you just broke his maiden free starts back. and he's got these triple digits. I knit speed late. Pays numbers in his last two starts but he's probably not Advanced enough either I i'm hoping central quality runs his race and sets up for donna my travelers because You know he's really exciting horse and then you also have the grade one sprint On the main on dirt vanderbilt and even the bowling green you know the bowling green has one of my horses moon over miami that i've talked to you about in the past jason. He true and outside post post seven perfect form. Don't get him buried inside. Junior alvarado junior and i follow each other on twitter. I can send a message if you want your. He'll write me back and say yeah. I've liked fifteen grade ones. Get out of here out my out of my man. Yeah it should be. I'm super pumped for it. And they kinda how. I thought you know. Obviously central qualities. Historian the dandy. Somebody an email brought to my attention. I hadn't really realized but they have. They almost always ran the curling. And the jim dandy on the same weekend because they're kind of the same race and i feel like you know once just not a great race in smaller purse but you know three year olds and a mile eighth on the main track kind of thing is that always something they've done. No no i mean it's it's relatively new. It may be. It may be like seven eight years now And they may they may have had a you know. A another listed. Three old race Earlier in the media but putting it on. Friday the day before the travers. Yeah it's it's taken. I don i mean the day before. The jim dandy. I think it's taken away from the jim dandy field. There's been some forces like hockberg others that were eligible for that curl and being on stakes winner. That would have definitely running the jim dandy and made for better race so yeah having a six-figure race that say this is the day before and the only thing is you know. You can't be a state. Definitely horse. Like i captain I would like to see him. In the jim dandy so so there is i hadn't i hadn't looked at the pp's yet for that. We're speaking in the morning. I was going to look at it later. But this is the restriction is is that you can't be a steak source. Obviously central quality is going in the curling right. Yeah it's it's a you it's a non stakes winner at a at a at as longer than a mile. Okay and you're gonna have the potential for a sprint winner In the field in fact claverie or no not collaborate somebody else ab- aaron is like a listed stakes winner at six furlongs. He's eligible god. God god the the bowling green was looking at. And i you know channel makers one of those horses who..

"He has a writer. Juniors asia steve rushing I personally like hobby a castle and all good guy always along with them. Can't let that affect your opinion. I have zero confidence betting on via castelo at this point in his career. Zero to the point where i've passed races. Now it's just my opinion in his his best years. Laurie why why did you say what. I think what. I think happened here. Is i think the older guys and this is something that has to be talked about. I think the older guys save john velazquez because of alaska's is immortal impair. Your effect were affected greatly by the culprit. Not just havi who had it but by the lesser schedule the starts and stops the all. These guys are on the other on the other side of the mountain. Anyway they're not gonna ride as many reasons they use the cheaper horses you know. He's actually gotten to the point where he's riding the cheaper horses. Roddy road that to lifetime today And one he wants to today today. This is what happens towards the end of the career. And you know he's riding with guys that a younger and stronger and i hate to say this guy. Is there a little smarter than him. As a writer. I love the guy. But you know this colony right now you got some. You got guys in this you you look through the colony. Okay you look you look at a race the race and thanks for the call then look at the last today okay the last race today. Junior alvarado guy wins fifteen percent all year. "I saw wins by ten. The quarter links cup. I mean really. I thought only one interesting point in the race was last judgement who was also kind of speed horse. They break jose ortiz on last judgement. Kind of pushing. The established position out of the gate. Rosario obviously going with mexico and ortiz makes the decision to let knicks. Go go on like you can visibly see it. As they're nearing the wire he's like no. I don't wanna get the dual go ahead And to me you know that was in part a winning move by next but since we kinda got the knicks go that we saw before you know where he runs and runs really well. I don't know that it would have mattered. Like they could do it. I think it would have mattered worse for last judgement. But maybe not maybe it. Does you know if they go. Forty four and change or forty-five five. Maybe it does set up for radar superstar who kind of did put in a little bit of a mild early bid on the turn. I feel like he's such a slingshot. Late move kind of horse but he. He got his move going a little bit early. And i ended up just missing second firm from last judgement. But i almost wonder if like with last judgement of part of the instructions. Were like look like sit off of nikko. If you can make a run at him then do it. And then we'll we'll we'll we'll win if he folds and we won't if he doesn't and we'll get second and second place pays sixty thousand dollars. Which is the equivalent of winning one hundred thousand dollar race. That would be my guess of the instructions based on how we saw it play out. It could have been that they were told to go. And i mean i don't know when when a trainer tells you like get to lead no matter. What do you literally. If if you're going to just dual forty four with some other horse and you have no shot like do you still do it or do you say look screw the train or i mean i feel like i hear a lot of these top name trainers like say like oh i don't give so and so many instructions you know they're top writer they can do whatever they want and i would be really curious to hear what the plan was with last judgment because my guess is that they probably thought look if knicks goes at his best. We can't beat him and if he's not maybe we can stop him. And maybe we try to get to him going into turn and it looked like they kind of took a little bit of a run but he just never was able to get close at that point but again they were able to save second and second pays pretty good in that race. So we'd love to hear your thoughts of course being podcast gmail.com com. Oh good way to get a hold of me and discuss any of the topics that we talk about here on this program. Of course the iowa festival of racing was not just the big friday night car. There was some Steaks action on the saturday. The iowa distaff the sailor ville and and others. Let me scroll my thing here. There we go the iowa. Distaff it was. Josie fernando delacruz in poprad cox winning and beating stan council the acid horse for for sophie. Doyle and you know the kind of slugged it out and it was josie just getting the better of it down laney iowa sprint stakes special reserve. Junior alvarado coming in for mike maker. Obviously junior over there right modernist as well so he may as well make a A weekend out of it and then the taylorville ended up getting scratched down to a field of four and the one two nine favourite. Franks rocket who we've seen taste defeat against some good horses at churchill and stuff like that but You know kinda got looked in the eye a little bit by by blinkers in the middle of race but Able to dispose of that one who did come on again. Blinkers ran a pretty game race. But you know it was It was never much doubt for for. Franks rocket winning the taylorville syllables. That's good winners over the years. I feel like tonight. Sources that won that race even though it's not a great stakes race let's take a quick time out. We come back. We'll talk some belmont. Some gulfstream and more. "You know in the in the june july and august. And then when i go back east to virginia and even when i was in cincinnati here rains all the time in the summer. It's so weird. It's very foreign to me. So i'm always perplexed when i'm like watching racist mike. It's june. why is it still raining but it does back there so we deal with it and you figure it out and we handicap change your bets. Accordingly was really excited to see change control score of win in the intercontinental stakes at belmont on thursday. Of course they they start the stakes action there. On thursdays part of bella is belmont officially like a festival. now i feel like most tracks. It's the iowa festival of racing or the racing festival of the south the houston racing festival. Everything's a festival now. Is it a festival in new york. Did see i read. Ortiz took a pretty scary spill. His horse was clear. And just kinda looked like tripped on itself at the eighth pole as a recording this. I have not heard any updates other than that. He was moving and talking and doing all that. And so happy to hear that obviously Potentially scary thing and what that means for his writing this weekend. I guess we'll probably find out some point on friday with we would have a more definitive answer on what it was. Jose ortiz in junior alvarado. I guess ran out to him to check on him and they were saying that he was moving and talking. But had some scrapes and scraps. And you know it's so hard when you have an accident like that you know your body shoots adrenaline all over the place. And so you like. It's almost like if you break something a lot of times. I don't think you feel it. I had that when i got. I broke my wrist and it was like you did drennan. It hurt but the the adrenaline. You feel like you use it. It's fine and then all of a sudden hour later i all. This doesn't feel good so Sending good thoughts to him and Also she with was fine. They said so. Just kind of a weird freak deal. The official Naira report was. I read waking alert movie all extremities what we transport local hospital for further evaluation. So good to hear that. And like i said we'll we'll find out what he has going on for the rest of the weekend in terms of his injury obviously leading riders is going to be a big player this weekend in a variety of racists including the The belmont stakes. Where i read is Slated to who is he writing. I forgot i know it known agenda. That's it for the patch so we'll talk a lot of belmont. Today's show with the jury guys. James and scott will talk a little churchill with them. We'll talk a little think. We talked a little baffert with ed little baseball. With james and scott. I forget talks got first thing in the morning so now. I'm forgetting what i talked with him about. Other than the belmont stakes. Definitely talk some belmont pay stuff because scott has a little bit of a theory that out work is going to be kind of a a not unknown like an unexpected pace presence and i think he might be right like first of all pletcher two horses or stone cold closers right so make sense that they would. Maybe you know the longest shot or the ones that You know might be the worst or whatever. I don't wanna say worse but the long shot you know. Maybe they're gonna yoko upfront. Shake things up a low. Pick as Known agenda probably would love somebody to go with rock your world and you know we know essential quality can be kinda handy and we know hot rod. Charlie's kind of so get excited for the belmont. Though i think it will be a fundraising. It's always such a fun day and we'll talk more about some of the undercard races later my I want to say that my like horse. I liked the best is in the manhattan in domestic spending but i i mean he's obviously he's he's won all but one of his races and the one that he didn't win he broke terribly slow and had circle up and still almost one and that that move he made between horses getting i mean diving the outside and still dead heating with colonel. Liam i thought just so spectacular and you know maybe he can't repeat or maybe bounces or whatever but i mean to me his kick into that slow pace and everything associated with it. I just thought man if this horse gets a clean trip like who's gonna who's gonna run with them. Currently am who he just tied after. The one horse had a perfect trip and he didn't. I mean i don't see that rock emperors. Okay channel cat you know. I know he's just want a great one. And i was happy about that Gluco is in here. I mean all good horses but man. I just thought that that domestic spending has shown a couple it i mean i thought that was such an impressive gear and You know just ability to get to to the wire and he gets flavian pratt. Who was on board again or onboard. Last five and i'm i'm a big fan so got to give it up to two flavian. Let's take quick time out though we'll get to the jury we'll talk about all these undercard races a little bit later on. It is friday edition of the jason. Be more racing. Tiz The Law Owner Jack Knowlton On Belmont Win

"Will here it is Jack Knowlton visiting with Anthony's to bill on. Red Brand radio. Congratulations on a fantastic win. A lot of people feel like it was seventeen years in the making my friend. Well we finally got our triple. Crown for Sakho Toga for Barclay tag and took us two horses and seventeen years, but from what I understand. It's still kind of fight for Barclay There aren't a lot of trainers at You know is one three legs of the triple crown in recent years. Yeah and you know you guys together. Seventeen years apart, and with New York breads and I know that's the. The mantra over attack a Toga. You guys support that program as well as anyone. Well I was pretty fascinated to learn that it was one hundred thirty eight years since the new. York breaded, won the. Belmont stakes now I know a lot of people are going to say well, then really count you know at you know. It wasn't a mile and a half and Yada, Yada but. In my mind, anybody who watched that race, who questions who would have won that race? It has been a mile and a half. I think the outcome would have been exactly the same as it was at amendment eight. And, Barkley had gone on record is before the race saying you know I would have liked a mile and a half of the source, and he's a horse again. New York Brad and that's what you guys do, you? You've been high on this horse from day one. Well. I watched them train at Saratoga. I mean you're up there and I'd go over at six o'clock in the morning 'cause. That was a time of day that Berkeley landed of track. It was almost darker. She got near the end of the need of what's dark. And not only did he. You know have a good works, and you know work quickly, not crazy fast, but you know good works. But the way he galloped out, I mean they couldn't pull him up. He goes around the second turn. After you know going, pass the finish line and writers just added tremendously difficult time pulling them up junior. Alvarado was riding. Mine is is raised back then, and when I saw that we went into a first range of six and a half furlong maiden mates for New York. Badge I really had a lot of confidence and He's lived up to it so one little bump in a road when he got stuck down inside and the worst part of the race track and Kentucky Jockey Club At. The end of November other than that He really has been flawless. Yeah. That's lobby. Track back in November. He's just been He's been impeccable. The rest of the way the covid nineteen outbreak of course forced post moment of the Kentucky Derby the preakness to. The. Bom obviously the biggest change with the Belmont was not only the two weeks, but the distance. You've mentioned the ASTERISK. We'll get to that in a minute You guys pretty much. And gals I don't want to offend anybody in Saratoga those thirty-five parts of this. Is that accurate? Seven and funny is that I was that six or seventy? You guys and funny side. We had ten ten. Okay, okay only. The same folks lieutenant. And I the only holdovers class. You guys Gus Williams. He passed away several years ago as dead one of our other great partners Dave Man but Ruined I gave remaining to. Stay with it and never in the world expecting that we would get the kind of horse that we've gotten here with the law. And this was an important race for you to win Jack Not that you don't want to win. The Derby again or the preakness again, but the Belmont stakes with your dedication to new. York, Brad's and New York, and let's face it. you know in a game where horses changed hands an awful lot. You and Barclay have been together two decades at this point. This was a very important race for you guys to to tick the box on. It was, and now he's got one more coming up in my hometown Saratoga Springs I've lived thirty five years I know Barkley wants to win it badly as do I and. Really if we can you know, check this box. would include the champagne, which is the the most important two year old race. The Belmont stakes obviously being biggest Belmont. Race and We get the travers at Saratoga. That's quite a triple. And that's pretty remarkable. When you consider you know you started this twenty years ago. As pretty much. Just some friends getting together and buying some horses. We had six guys and Sackett Cyber. I find the eastern end of Lake Ontario I went to high school. We were having our usual. Memorial Day weekend, bearing barbecue, and my wife and I would go up there and visit and I had been in the harness. Business Standard Bread business I guess for about a dozen years and got out. In in ninety four. And somebody up there said well. Why don't we buy a thoroughbred and I said you know figuring I've never gonNA hear anything about it again. I said okay. I said you know, let's each put in five thousand dollars. I knew Tim Kelly at that point who's a trainer and works at is never now. so I got a hold of me and he found this a New York Brad for twenty two thousand dollars. We named him the second sex after the six of us. From Sackett Cyber and came up with the name sack Toga stable after sack I Saratoga and made ourselves Maroon and gray, which are high school college. So. That's how it all started.

Yeah I mean I guess you know that that's the way I I yeah I can grew up. You know like I say it's been soil. You know where you had to do it that way been raised and and just a lot to do it. You know the more I can get with them and you know probably get the best result and after noon well we just heard that clip of Larry Calmest calling preservationists reservationists winning the grade one Woodward put me in the saddle with you aboard preservationists and I know that the poor horse wouldn't be able to carry that kind of way with me on his back but but put me in the saddle with you. What was that trip like. And what was that victory like for you. We know you was it definitely was more. It was very special us because you know were happening and with the you know like it was like I wouldn't say more pressure because I didn't have it. Are The you know in the top you know of the best horses and the country you know and you know like he was just a raise what I just needed to make sure you know he he he relaxed for me. You know like he was great. In the Post parade there was a problem we can have a little bit in there and the Whitney you know he was a little Kim. You know he didn't want to really be with the point at all. So you know Jimmy schooling break good for for for the war and I mean he just show up that day. You know he was a beautiful trip. You know we we're GONNA. We're trekking horse horse in the whole way around you know he was ready for me the whole way there on the facts this thing you know. I tried to make a little more broadly inside of 'em how horse because you know the point. He was getting a little pressure and outside. I don't see him moving forward. So I thought for a second brought it was running out of horse horse and before you know I got the whole from the outside trying to cover me. I try to make a mobile and then I saw he he can move a little bit and then after that you said like you know I used to the little bit right here behind us when we turned for home and and then I'll find my way would would would survey ships and I mean he he dig in there. Rob, Britney And Hockey discussed on The Horse Racing Radio Network Podcast

"Native of Winnipeg since two thousand nine he has trained one hundred fourteen winners, but how about this through the first forty four days of two thousand nineteen he has sent out ten starters resulting in six wins and two second place finishes think about that eighty percent first or second this year, the moral of the story do not leave his horses out of your exact is if you're betting the races in New York this winter he is rob actress and he is with us now on trainer talk presented by phasing. Tipton? Rob welcome to the show. Hey, guys. How you doing? Thanks for having me. Yeah. Doing great eighty percent. I or secret first or second. Let's get this out right now. What's the secret? My friend. I don't think there's any secret. I I think I think I fell into a fortunate situation picked up some decent horses. We put them all in, you know, very logical spot, and I got I had Manny Franko in junior Alvarado or riding lights out. They they wrote all the winners, and they wrote them great. And I think that's that's pretty much, you know, putting them in the right spot and getting fortunate trips in great rides. We have something to do with the semblance your team. I mean, you're of course at the center, but you know, you've got the right jockeys riding. I'm sure you're your staff is great. I know your wife helps you out. It's it's nice when everything falls together like that. But it's not really accidental you had to have a big say in that outcome. Yeah. No for sure, you know, when I first started the January first is when I took over the remaining horses that were left here. I had I had two guys that I've been working with for two years Braulio Fernandez and Rafael to go work with me for all. There was a writer and Rafael with my form end with Robert Keno for three years, they stayed with me, you know. So is nothing new to them. And nothing new to me, you know, working with them. And we kinda you know, we had the same kind of system. We we knew what to do. And and then, you know, obviously, my my wife Britney works with me. And she says she does pretty much everything she she rides the she thinks care the helps. Groom just you know, we all kind of worked together as a team. And so far it's been working. Yeah. Rubber Tino Diadora. You mentioned rubber Tino. He was on this program a couple years back and he much like you a native of Canada and somebody's head a lot. Of success training in his career. And now you talked about taking over the horses that he left when I guess he went to Oakland this winter. Right. So you took over for him and your your training at aquit full-time. Yeah. Yeah. That's right. Actually, I I remember that show. I was Remington parking time. I remember listening to the show when he was on with you guys. He was a pretty good hockey player. If I recall from that interview is that right? Yeah. I didn't you know, we're from different parking Canada. But far as I know he was he had to make a choice between playing hockey and then bringing horses, you know, he apparently was a real good goaltender. I guess you weren't a hockey player. Actually, I I was and we're okay. I think I made it up to. Yeah.
