"We need to not just interrogate the term safety. What actually makes up safety. It has to be entail health s to intel income security these kinds of things not just crime rates. We also have to interrogate. What is the meaning of the public. That's been invoked here. Who is actually being served by this in my argument would be that. Actually that public is being served by current public safety. Rationales is actually pretty much. Nobody it's not even the people who think they're being served by the people in will met or the fancy northern suburbs in chicago. Their health is is also undermined. The collective productivity and cohesion of our societies is undermined by the system also negatively affects even the wealthy people who live in neighborhoods. Where incarceration rates are approximately zero So i really think the the public that served by current public safety policies is essentially nobody But some people think they're being served a lot of people know they're not concern. We need to think about who constitutes the public who who counts and who does not. Because we're certainly not including the welfare of incarcerated people. We talk about two million people when we're talking about public safety. Yeah so i. I'm looking at again My highlights of your proceedings article end. This is the point. Although it's a your comments the comment you just made this a understated but this states Mass incarceration is neither an effective means of criminal. Turn store of improving public safety. The great reset is company is coming. You're gonna own nothing and you're going to be happy. And what and then you see that there's companies like blackrock right now. Which are you know. Big hedge funds an investment companies. That are going in and buying all of these single family homes in some cases are coming in and buying the entire area of homes in. They're buying them fifty fifty percent more than they were originally asking. Sometimes one hundred two hundred percent more black rock is buying single home family so this this whole thing like it seems like we're in. This orchestrated collapse right now. So if you're just nagging a little bit here. And they're not worrying about the prices it goes up and down. Just keep keep stacking sats as they say. Spanish international news agency f. e. John mcafee was found dead in his prison cell at the bryans to penitentiary center on wednesday. And i'm just going to say right here. Earlier on wednesday a spanish court ruled that mcafee could have been extradited to the us following approval from the country's council of ministers and the opportunity for his legal team to appeal the decision. The seventy five year old previously argued that the charges he faced were politically motivated and that if he had been extradited he would have spent the rest of his life in prison That could be very true. John you will be missed and again our deepest sympathies to janice and our condolences hours. Just it's super sad and it sucks you know. The government comes after folks. "I'd like to email this to. It's like you. You say you're going to help people that's what you're there for. Then do it. What what we're getting with them of late is just this delay tactic. They won't return. Phone calls They they really push you to use their particular shop bright but they want the the really heavy handed to say. Hey you have to go to this shop and trying to help people on their term on their terms and it's like you know instead of looking at it there's this thing this principle and it should we should live our lives by it. It's called good and it's nothing more. it's so simple. I hold my interest at the same level of importance as yours and then that should in if the world was wonderful right it should be reciprocated would reciprocate and And i really think In my business we got off of those programs where you're know one of the preferred shops because you can't work with the owner of the car in good faith and be on those programs because the insurance companies dictate to those shops and and you know you're starting to see as you drive around greeley. You're starting to see names on body shops that they they're not local companies. They're they're out of state. Their national vendors i mean one of the companies is is out of canada so all of that money that gets spent at those shops doesn't stay in the market no it levi and it goes back to canada and then you know the sad thing is. I chose a long time ago not to be on those not to be on an insurance companies list. Now that doesn't mean that. I don't have a lot of wonderful agents. That's the worker the. It's still want me to work with their customers. You wish you would've stayed on the list no not at all at all. Never you can't you can't it's biblical. You cannot serve two masters. You're either going to please the owner of the car or the insurance company but you cannot do both The these big corporate body shops that are popping up everywhere And they are popping up everywhere. They're they're going into markets because and then the insurance companies will immediately the minute they put their shingle up on the wall and they see you know national auto body or whatever the insurance companies will use them because they agree to do what the insurance company tells them to do. And and that's wrong. What we should be doing is we should be working for the better. Well to indemnify. That's a key word is to put you back in your financial position after you've had a loss. How many people do you know that if you align a hundred people up and in a row and say hey your cars just received ten thousand dollars worth of damage. What what do you do now and you ask them that question. I'm going to say a very large portion of those people so god get rid of it. It's never going to be the same. Wow how flipping. Ridiculously sad is that. Because here you have an An entity the insurance industry. Which i believe in insurance and i believe in good agents and there are good agents out there One of the things. We always talk about i. I i want to harp on this. Is that if you have an insurance agent and you have a claim and you will already thinks it's there whites there but you will have a claim and they hand you an eight hundred number and say there you go you got the wrong fire guy. You gotta get rid of the age so as we get into into the summer here right. I mean We're getting more and more events going. People are getting going again. the greeley stampede. Getting ready to get underway. Which i'll to talk to you about the stay up right..

"Take us through that okay. So the first of all When you do a vaccine you're checking a little bit of protein or some m a with your body makes a protein from Into persons are your immune system makes an antibody to whatever that protein is meaning that. Hey that doesn't belong in my body. So i'm going to get it out of my body and kill it. I'm going to go against that protein and to protect myself and so that's what an antibody is and so what is dangerous about quote unquote dangerous about vaccines is if you happen to have that protein in your body naturally now like you say in the heart muscle and you're making little antibody to it. Then your body could attack some of your own selves and so that's an example of one possible explanation. What's going on. We know that wild covert if you get sick. Kovin near chance of getting myocarditis. Well if you haven't been one of those people who is one hundred percent because the people who dived kobe all have could this if you're a middle aged adult The data so far shows about two thirds to three quarters of people that are middle aged. Don't get go with get myocarditis. Now you've got a headache. You're coughing your lungs are messed up your exhausted so you don't know about it or pay attention to it because it tends to be a secondary symptom and we even have studies from college. Athletes where twenty six college athletes protested four for them had myocarditis so cova causes my is now. We give people a musician. One in three thousand people so realize i said four and twenty six. that's true that's eight percent which one and twelve so now one in three thousand people could get that inflammation. That goes away doesn't cause it's not long term thing but it's probably this cross reactivity. I talked about so. This is a risk conversation. Would you rather be in one. And three thousand people get affected or would you rather be in you know for me. I'm an old man. you know. Two thirds to three quarters of us are going to get that. And that's the decision you make on. Whether i get the vaccine or i don't ages the state of mind dr connor just remember that day everyday. That's my story. "Of getting immunized. So much less i would really encourage my brothers and sisters. You know go do this and and be courageous because this is us really looking at At what nature. And you know for those of us. Chris would say god that for those of us who maybe more secular what nature is teaching us and that is that we understand us and we can protect ourselves from the forces of the world the bike to infect us and take us down and it's a tough lesson to learn because This corona virus this novel corona virus isn't going anywhere quickly. It'll always be with us. And i'm fond of referencing line out of jurassic park. That said life will find a way well so well. A corona virus says it mutates and continues to find new ways to spread among us. And that's what we have to look forward to right well so i'd like to share with the listening audience. What's going on here. So we had the first version of of cova that hit new york and then seattle etc. It had way to attach to your cells. It's called a spike protein. That was kind of like a key that went into locked. It didn't fit very well. And then you had the uk very which one on seven and the virus perfected the kilo of it so he could grab a hold of your cells and twist and get into yourselves better and the delta by variant now has perfected that key so it can get in your body. It can grab on yourselves. That can invade your cells and turn them into little factories for the virus. And it's perfecting itself over time and the only way we stop this is to have people stopped getting sick cova because every sick person is a laboratory for kobe to try to protect itself. And that's why even if you couldn't even if you're part of the demographic and you think like this gentleman did it's not gonna happen to me even if i get sick. It's not going to be a big deal. Which by the way is what receive majority of the time. What you are doing is allowing it to perfect itself inside your body. And i'd say don't be used that way. Goget the got the the vaccine. And don't let the virus us you to get more dangerous to other people it's diabolically brilliant isn't it. This virus seems to learn l. It does learn. that's what a variant is is. It's an experiment and learning and growing. And you know it's it's it's one of the things. I'm a big believer in human rights in an individual's right to decide. I also doctor who stood by the bedside and watch people die of something they didn't have to die from. And i i would be really I'm really struggling with this right now. Because you know they'll be other viruses. This is this one is is working. Its way through. Its teaching us. It's almost like a school for all of us. Who are watching it to say what can happen if we're not careful but imagine if we ebola virus which kills thirty percent of people and the krona virus with its infections would really affect people get together and we had another virus and we got a vaccine for it. We really would have to say to everybody..

"The country in the fight against a covid. Nineteen that connor. Welcome back to the show. Certainly appreciate your taking the time this morning. Let's let's talk a little bit about how concerned we should be about. This delta variant treated for groups of people. Were talking about right now. First of all you've got the people are immunized. And i'd say they need to be concerned for their family and loved ones who aren't having us but they're protected from the celtics went so they can feel pretty good. You got a group of people. Who had kobe and they may be protected. Also but You know so. They can feel a mildly to moderately concerned. And you've got the people are naming us and for those who are listen. You're on immunized. Go getting immunized. I gotta tell you I was on the phone yesterday with a thirty seven year. Old man who lift weights every day. Two hundred pounds five eleven just a model of health and each well and he's in the hospital can't breathe. He's got a two week old baby. I mean it's it's a disaster. And so he and he said to me he said dr conard i. I'm so sorry that i just didn't go get the immunization. I just didn't think it could happen to me and And he's fighting for his life. I mean it's not a question of how quickly it's back to normal to quit question whether their lives or dies so we've got to get the people who aren't immunized to really look at the risk benefit ratio and. Go kidding me is. It is just so heartbreaking story. I just Pray for his recovery particularly given the fact that he has such a a young child. But it's just heartbreaking regardless of age. But i you know you've got to wonder dr konin as we watched over the past thirteen to fifteen months as kobe. Nineteen and of course The vaccines were so politicized and weaponized. You still have a lot of people sitting on the fence when it comes to getting vaccinated. What would you say to them. In order to flip the script for them. But you know i. I'll just confess. I was one of them. I mean i'm kind of Of part of the demographic that isn't getting vaccine and and i and my heart goes out and this is not me being critical of them. It's me saying the data's in you know the data is now in an. I'm so disappointed in our federal government over the last year with the way to handle this is completely. It was just done. It couldn't have done a poor job with the communication but but look at the science. The science says that You know one point. Eight million people died in the world last year already. Two point two point. Oh over two million. People have died in the world this year from kobe. More people have died this year than last year. Now not in the united states. Thank god but around the world and what we see is that over two hundred million doses have been given and it's very rare to have a significant problem. The myocarditis problem that you wanna talk about that later but but net net is that That when you look at people getting covid and you get one point. Five percent dying and six percent being hospitalized versus the people getting shot which is not even a tenth of a percent getting hospitalized..

Walmart and Gap Partner to Launch New 'Gap Home' Brand

That's gonna start showing up on walmart dot com on June 24th. Eventually these products will be in Wal Mart stores, the companies said in a joint statement. But for now, it's just gonna be On on walmart dot com. Summerfest announces new three-weekend format for 2021

"New announcement. About what Summer fest 2021 is going to look like and we're joined right now. In the first Midwest Bank hotline by summer fest, CEO Don Smiley, Don. Good Afternoon. Good afternoon, Jeff. How are you? I am Well, thank you. Okay, Let's talk about the big news. What Summer fest. 2021 is going to look like and then we'll kind of explore why That decision was made, but so what? It's gonna look like Sure we're we're changing the festival format. The three weekends versus 11 days, so we'll start on June 24th and work 24 25 26. July, 123 and July 89 10. We will eliminate two Sundays, two Wednesdays and a Tuesday. That's five days. So what the essence of this is and and what we discovered through? Surveys and focus groups in in in in and data mining was that our customers want Mohr national bands. Earlier in the day. Can so We're going to take the expenses from those five days that I just gave to you and we're going to reallocate them to the weekends. Where will have local bands up early, but well, you you can picture a national band. Being on the Harley stage or the Miller stage at 5 P.m. and then another headliner at nine or 10 o'clock that evening, so it's an effort to go after more quality. Versus quantity and really fish. When the fish are biting, more people are more apt to be out on the weekends. Thursday, Friday Saturday with disposable income And And in using their energy entertainment dollars on those days versus the five days that I gave you, which, really when it came right down to it, they were really weak and that is W e a K. There were weak days for us, and we were spending a lot of money to produce those days and our money can be better spent in reallocating tow three weekends done. This is just in some ways respects. The logical progression in number means. Summer fest originally was always Thursday through Sunday, 11 days and a number of years ago. You made the decision. To to drop that first Monday because of a variety of things, including, I think week attendant, So this is really just kind of a logical progression of that I would imagine. It is. I mean, you know when you look at Theaters and restaurants and so on. I mean, you find a lot of businesses closed on Mondays. But when you're running a music festival The expenses are are are significant and Whatever you can. Maximize those dollars on different days. We concluded that that's the way to go. Even though it's too less days we're gonna have we're gonna have better bands and we're gonna have the bands that our customers our fans are looking for is still at a very affordable price. We're still gonna have free gated missions. We're still gonna have promotion days. We're still gonna have Children's fast day. It's such a It's such so none of that's going to change. We're just going to camp up. No pun intended thie the quality of the of the bands that we signed and on top of that on the fringes. If you will, pre summer fest in post summer fast, we're going to do a lot of shows in the American family insurance amphitheater in the beam, O'Hare's Pavilion will probably do more shows. And those two buildings that in the history of the festival So there's going to be a lot of activity in that building. It was too bad we couldn't use it the summer Ah, it turned out beautiful. And I'm referring to the reconstruction of the amphitheater. So and I know we're not alone there. I mean, you know everyone's hurting, and that includes sports and in restaurants and businesses alike. We understand that, but we had it. We have a scheduled board meeting this morning. We went through all of this. It was a unanimous decision. And so while we do understand that there are Maur. Important things going on in our world today and in people's lives have changed because of coded and also social unrest. This is just one of those things that we had to get out there and get on with it for the planning of 21, Don't just so I'm clear that this is not a one off plan for 2021. This is this is the plan for Summer fest moving forward is that correct? We'll see. I mean, I'm not going to sit here and tell you that You know that This is a perfect plan. And if if it works if all of the data That we considered in making this decision plays out. Well, then it will be a nine day festival going forward. I mean, you know who's to say that there isn't a show on Wednesday night prior to the opening Thursday, and who's to say this might turn into a 10 Day festival? I mean, you know, everything changed with Kobe. Everyone's life has changed their personal life, their social life. All businesses have been affected. And and and we're not on an island here, so we really believe that we have to be flexible. We have to be creative. We have to be able to pivot when when it's necessary, and that's exactly what we're doing. We lost $10.4 million in 2020. That's Before depreciation by not operating summer fest or any other shows down here or the ethnic festivals, So that's quite a mountain to climb. To try to make that money back and start replenishing our reserves again after we put $10 million of our own money into the amphitheatre, which was a $51 million project, so You know, I have, really, I really couldn't tell you what the future holds. I can tell you exactly what 21 is planned for, And if for some reason we run into a fork in the road In 21. Well, then we'll make a decision. At that time when you mentioned the ethnic festivals. Does this new schedule for summer fest proper, have any Will it have any impact on any of the ethnic festivals and they're scheduling No. The ethnic festivals would have the same dates as they would have had in 20 Got it. One of the other things in your announcement today for the nine days of summer fest. It looks like eight of the days are already booked for the amphitheater, and it looks like you've got just a a killer lineup coming there. I can give them to you if you're interested. Sure. Okay. On June 24 we have Khalid 25 is Luke Bryan 26 is Justin Bieber. July 1st Dave Matthews. The second is blank. 1 82. The third is Halsey. The eighth is Stapleton and the 10th his guns and roses. So we have one day to fill July 9th. Actually, it's filled but we can announce it. Yes, and we have some other shows sprinkled in around those dates. Already. So I think that's one of the things that people need to recognize as well and in part because of the partnership you have with with live nation now, the summer fest grounds. There's even outside the parameters of the run of summer fest that the summer fest grounds we're going to be utilized, probably more than ever in 2021 with big shows, right? Yes, sir. That was a great deal We did with the Frank Brothers, which is the live nation partner here in Wisconsin and That will provide more more shows more opportunities it required. Um, the reconstruction of the amphitheater. If we didn't do that, we wouldn't be any more shows And you know, there are some shows that we won't get there. Some shows that just play that, you know, they just want to play indoors and will will not get a shot of those. And There's plenty of venues in town for for those bands to play indoors and then and then we're going to get a shot at at bands that want to play amphitheaters. So we feel like we're in good shape. They're in and we're set up for the future, and I'm sure there's going to be some traditionalists who look at this and say, I really I really missed that Tuesday's show or I can't believe they're doing away with opening day Wednesday, but This is kind of a new reality that you're dealing with in a festival. Look, Let's just, you know, get this out of the way. I mean, we know we're not going to get all the votes and we know that there will be you know, there will be some that don't agree, but you know, we're going off a day out of I, You know, everyone's entitled to their own opinion. I love that. I think that's passion. That's like arguing who should hit second or third and play right field or second base. I mean, if they're not talking about you, I mean, then you really have a problem. So You know, everyone's entitled to their own opinion. We're just going on the facts. We know what our attendance is going back. Years. Um For Thursday, Friday Saturday and we know what kind of revenue we do on those days and we know exactly what the expenses are so for us to set this up. And get it ready for future generations and replenish our reserve funds. This is the move that we need to make. Got it done. Smiley Summer fest CEO. Thanks so much for spending some time with me this afternoon. I always appreciate it.
