It's gonna be an interesting show tonight. Yeah, 1994. As I said in the intro, my friend Todd Zauchman just absolutely sent me a text destroying the year 1994. Oh, I just looked up 1994, I don't know what you're gonna talk about, there's a few things and I don't know how you're gonna make a whole show out of it, and good luck with that, because that's how he talks. That's exactly how he talks. I'm just gonna do this, and you know, it's not gonna be a good, blah, blah, blah, blah. That's how he talks. Now, he'll deny that, and you'll never know if that's the way he talks or not. He'll just have to take my word for it. I'm Todd Zauchman, and I don't know about 1994. Well, enough about him. But he's a mini, but he thinks he's a Clydesdale. What do they do with horses after that? Is that the proverbial glue factory? All right. You know what? Right away. Penalty box. Oh. Take it away, Lou. Sure. It's fine. It was such an awful show. I thought I said the wrong show for a second there. It's been nothing short of amazing. Don't jump over each other to answer that question. It's always fun. Last week was fun. We got knocked down a bit by Warner Brothers because we played a clip of an America song featuring Dan Peake. Yeah. You're going to watch that. Yeah. We talked through the whole thing, but Spotify is much cooler than YouTube. YouTube sucks like that. YouTube, they have a very strong algorithm. They can kiss my rosy red ass over that. That's right. You tell them, Lou. Fuckers. That's right. Get me kicked off YouTube. That's right. Let me see. John Morris, he was our shift commander. When I met him, I was, I think, a two striper, and he was what they called a butterbot. He was a second lieutenant, I believe. He said, tell them stories from the Nipah Hut in the Philippines. That's a big no. That's a whole other podcast, but they would never make it on the air. Just leave it at that. It's like a chain of Nipah Huts? No. It was a bar slash club called the Nipah Hut. Tell one story. No. They had a giant spaceship that would come down from the top. It's kind of like George Clinton in parliament. At the end of the show, this big spaceship came down from the top. Smoke. Like you said, parliament fucking pelican. Then the thing went open, and everyone would walk up and get up on stage, all those drunk GIs. Like, yeah, I'm going in the spaceship, and you go down these stairs, and you're in a fucking basement. I don't think it was a basement. It's like something from a fucking horror movie. How do you get out? And then somebody goes, this way, this way, go, go, go, go. That's the cleanest story I can tell you. It's the cleanest story I can tell you. Sounds like fun. It was a lot of fun. It was a lot of fun. I got a story for you off the air one of these days. So okay, music relish show's going good. Excellent. I just wanted to say, Lou brought up, he made the show. His segment on bad love songs. That will go down in history as some of the best podcasting ever. Bad love songs? Really bad love songs. The worst love songs of all time, like in rock. It's a deep vein. Is that something, is that like content I could probably like borrow with Perry Mind? Because I'd love to hear that list someday. We voted him off the board. We're no longer a false triumvirate democracy. Wait a minute. We toppled the AI monarchy. There's three of us on this one. Are you two going to overthrow me too? Are you like rebels? None of those stories you're told, no. They're wrecking too. Instead I'll start calling you the Sandinistas. The hostile takeovers. You go on podcasts just to take them over? And it's funny, we noticed that several of them made everyone's list of worst love songs. So it's got to be universally bad. Okay. If everyone said that, that fucking song. Bryan Adams becomes the first major Western music star to perform in Vietnam since the end of the Vietnam War. Oh, shit. Bryan Adams. Bryan Adams, yeah. Wow. On January 21st to February, as it's spelled, the Big Day Out Festival takes place, again, expanding from those previous years. Blah, blah, blah. Auckland, New Zealand. The festival is headlined by Soundgarden, Ramones, and Bjork. Nice. That's an interesting... Probably each night there were headlines. I would love to see Bjork. Me too. I would never want to see the Ramones. They'll never get back together again. Unless they perform in the Pet Sematary. Yeah. Hey, Lou, can you put him in the green room? No, I'd like that one. January 25th, Alice in Chains released their Jar of Flies album, which makes its U .S. chart debut at number one on the Billboard 200, becoming the first ever EP to do that. Right? But they still are always talked about as like number three or number four out of the big four. Big four being? Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden. And Alice in Chains. Alice in Chains is never getting that kind of... Whereas... That first album, the record company made them sound like another band. Yeah. And that's not their fault. They were produced that way. Dirt was a great album. Yes, yes. And Layne Staley was one of the greatest frontmen ever. Just as cool as the other side of the pillow, as they say. Yeah. voice Very unique also. Today we were talking about what we were going to talk about in the show. And he goes, when I saw the videos, he goes, I didn't match his face with the way he looked. Right? He said he was expecting like a grungy, more... No, he was slick. He was slick. In the Man in the Box video, he's got the kind of long... But then he changed it up. He slicked the hair back, he wore the shades, you know. Just turned into a... Suzanne McPhail. Another one of my horse people. She's the one that introduced me to that whole thing. And she said, who's Jack? That's right, I guess. At this point. On January 29th, The Supremes' Mary Wilson is injured when her Jeep hits a freeway median and flips over just outside of LA. Wilson's 14 -year -old son is killed in the accident. What a good day. Ah, this fucking... I saw this and I was like... Dead horses was a bummer. I know, I know. I saw this and I'm like, there's no way around this. February 1st, Green Day releases their breakthrough album, Dookie. Ushering in the mid -1990s punk revival. Dookie eventually achieves diamond certification. Now, I did like them back then. I actually did. I was stationed in Southern California in Riverside. And I decided to get like a side job. You know, I was in the Air Force. But I was like, I want to make a little more money. I want to do something. So I got a job at a record store. Cool. Was it Spencer's or something? Forget the name of it. Oh, Spencer's. They sold all the trinkets, too. No, no, it wasn't Spencer's then. It was something like that. It was a chain. Hot topic. They sold DVDs, too. FYE. No, it wasn't that. I'll remember it. I was working there when Dookie came out and the fucking whole wall was covered with Dookie CDs and they were flying off the shelves. It had a pretty fresh sound. It was fresh then. And coming off the 80s were kind of slick in a lot of ways, except for some of the real heavy alternative. But to hear a song like that on the radio, that was like hearing Smells Like Teen Spirit on mainstream rock radio. Good drummer, too. As a band, whether you like him or not, I think he's really good. Billy Joe Armstrong. Oh, Trey Cool. Trey Cool, yeah. February 7th, Blind Melons lead singer is Shannon Poon forced to leave the American Music Awards ceremony because he is loud and disruptive behavior. Poon is later charged with battery assault, resisting arrest, and destroying a police station telephone. Now, this is the dude that sang, you know, And I don't really care if I sleep all day And he's in the daisy field, so you think he's like this really, like, chill dude. And like, you know, me and the B -girl, man, you know. The B -girl, yes. And the tap -dancing B -girl, and like, I'm just this dude's a fucking lunatic. He was taking substances that made him. Oh, yeah. That was a short career. Was it him that did a duet with Guns N' Roses? What was the video, a song from Guns N' Roses with a video where they're up on like a water tower and they jump into the water or something. I forget what it was called. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe they did it with him.

A highlight from S13 E09: Diversified Crypto Mutual Fund Success Stories
"Hello, welcome to The Elone Show. I'm your host, John Mayelone. In this episode, don't have any regulars because reasons, I guess. As for our guest, he's from Brisbane, Australia. He manages the world's first diversified crypto mutual fund since 2016. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Jeremy Britton. Thanks Jamie. Great to be here. You're welcome. So how's life? Life is sweet. It's springtime here in Australia. So, you know, time to put away the jumpers and put on the t -shirts, get out amongst nature. Life's good. All right. Very good. And have you been up too much recently? Oh mate, it's been so exciting. I mean, in the crypto world, I mean, we've been flying solo for a long time as the world's first crypto mutual fund, trying to make it easy for people to get into crypto. And for the first three years, we had no competitors at all. So we just benched ourselves against Bitcoin. We have managed to outperform Bitcoin for the last six or seven years in a row. But that's that's all we could measure ourselves against because there was no competitors. And a couple of years ago, we got some competitors into the market. There's two or three fund managers who came in. Sadly, they were not very good. One of them had 43 percent of their money invested in FTX before FTX went broke and they closed down. But, you know, in the last couple of weeks, we've got BlackRock, Fidelity, ARK Investments, Wisdom Tree and a whole bunch of major financial players coming into the market. So it's actually a very exciting time right now. Very nice. So what inspired you to set up this mutual crypto diversified fund of some sort? Now, my my career is like when I was 19, I started as a financial planner. So it's my first real job. And I would create portfolios for clients and say, hey, you go shopping at this grocery store, so we should get some some stock in that and you fly with this airline. So we should get some stock in that. And I would specialise in US and Australian stocks and shares. But obviously, I couldn't be an expert on China or India or Taiwan. So that's where we'd use mutual funds. And there was a person who lived in Taiwan who knew all the best stocks and shares to buy. So they would have mutual funds and would invest for a bit of diversification into into other areas. Because, as you know, you know, with with stocks and shares, when one thing goes down, something else goes up and you've got to have a balance in there. So I was I was usually creating these portfolios for clients with a mix of direct stocks and shares, as well as some mutual funds, and found over time that most people didn't really care that much about the individual stocks and shares, as long as they were making a decent amount of money.

Well, he is campaigning for candidates that already exist, but he's also campaigning and looking for and recruiting candidates in Pennsylvania and Ohio. That's good luck in Pennsylvania. I got a question for you, Selena. Do you boil or do you grill your hot dogs? Oh, grill. Oh, the people who boil their hot dogs, you know, they need to go to confession. You know, Selena, you're so wrong about that. And my poll proved conclusively. I did an online poll. Duane is a grilled person and I'm a boiled person. But you're wrong. Let's go back to Kevin McCarthy. So you sat down in Poland. You crossed over the line. You got your papers. They let you through from Pennsylvania into Ohio. How long were you with the speaker for? The interview went for about 45 minutes. How many columns are you going to get out of that? Well, probably a couple, but this is a, you know, sort of a big profile piece of him in the magazine. And I thought he was really interesting in talking about how he has dealt his hand with only having a five seat majority. And he was really thoughtful about, you know, we actually got more done with five seats than we did when we had a really big majority.

Mark J. Brandenburg's New Book Reveals Truth About Police Stress
"I'm talking to Arthur, author Mark Brandenburg about his brand new book, Fence Jumper. It's about a Secret Service agent who gets into some trouble and then it develops into a DC novel of manners. But Mark, I told you when we were going out. You introduced Metropolitan Police Detective Derek Rowland on page forty nine and on page two, you know, 250 pages later, he's having a conversation with a young FBI agent outside the Willard Hotel in his Crown Vic, which is really kind of a serious moment about being a local policeman. Did you put that in there purposely? I did. I did. So before I was a Secret Service agent, I was a police officer in a suburb of Kansas City, a police department for five years. Now, obviously, I've worked with police officers all over the country. So Derek Rowland, I'm glad you like the character so much because he's one of the most enjoyable characters to write in the entire work. And it just kind of came easy because I had met so many police officers. I know the personalities. He's an aging Metro cop who's seen it all. And he was just a fun character to write. And also having him play off the younger FBI agent who at first he's not real thrilled with, but as it progresses, the relationship gets better. And he's also a coincidentally, Derek Rowland, one of my best friends, is still a police officer. Johnny Rowland is kind of an ode to him. That's why I named him Rowland at the end. Well, I got to say, when you say there comes a time when you're just tired of being lied to and then you talk about the emotional toll. I was just in my 45th college reunion and one of my buddies has a son who's a cop on a major Metropolitan Police Department, and she's convinced that every street cop has got to have a mandatory meeting with a counselor every three to six months because of the accumulated amount of mental stress. And you communicate that in three pages. It's like talking to Hillary when I talk to her about her son, because, my gosh, the stress just is cumulative.

"I am very happy to welcome Mark Brandenburg to the program because I loved his book, Fence Jumper, and I am a sucker for books about D .C. Good morning, Mark. How are you? Good morning, Hugh. Very good. Very good. Just landed last night from out west and very excited to be on your show. And I appreciate you having me on. Well, I very much love Fence Jumper. And first, I got to add, does the Secret Service clear books like the CIA clears novels by former CIA or active duty agents? Yes, so I was kind of uncharted territory when I wrote this because I'm not aware of a current agent writing a book and having it published before. So about April of last year, our media relations people in our legal department read the book. I was very careful when I wrote it not to have anything in there that would be problematic. So they honestly they didn't retract one word. They were they were secret service has been pretty supportive, but I've been really open with them about it. But yeah, it's been it's been a fun time and an interesting time. But yes, of course, they take a good look at it because I want to make sure I'm still employed here. So I had to make sure that they were happy with it. I'm like Jimmy. I'm not ready to quit. I can't be a full time author just yet. So I am curious, is Jimmy coming back in another novel? Because I like Jimmy and Kat a lot. And I love President from Gene Sterling. We don't need to see again. But what about that? Is he coming back? Yes. So I'm in the process of writing the next one tentatively titled Webcam Girl. It'll be some I'm going to keep some of the same tone that we had in Fence Jumper is one of my main goals. But yes, James Ford will be back. There'll be some new characters. There might be there might be some characters that you will recognize from, let's say, modern Washington, D

El Salvador Is Protecting Citizens and Targeting Criminals
"York Times says El Salvador decimated its ruthless gangs. But at what cost? No, no, the next sentence should be huzzah, hooray, hallelujah, the streets are safe. But The New York Times has to say, but we need to find a victim in this equation. Remember, the left they are victims seekers. Need to find a victim in every equation they believe the society is usually to blame for somebody's shortcoming. Somebody rapes or loots or murders, what society that made them that way. It's from a very flawed view of human nature. We believe human beings are rather crummy and you gotta put a lot of work to create good people. It's not society's fault. The great battle is you against you and how to raise good children. So if you have a problem in El Salvador and these people repeatedly terrorizing everyday citizens, then maybe we should go after them and not act as if they are victims because they are gang bangers that are shooting up soccer fields. It's an incredible article in The New York Times. El Salvador decimates its ruthless gangs. But at what cost? The whole article is a series of stories about how much life has changed in the country over the last year. Now, that's not something we talk a lot about. El Salvador is not exactly a lead nation. We do get a fair amount of illegal border jumpers from El Salvador, which is probably where we mentioned it the most. But now it says in the article that children are finally playing on soccer fields that used to be exclusively gang turf. Sounds like Chicago. Residents are able to park their cars without paying $10 a month to the gangs, which by the way is a lot, and El Salvador. People can let their children play in public parks out worrying that they'll be hit by stray bullets. Here's one quote from Juan Hernandez. He had not set foot on a soccer field, just blocked from his house in ten years, quote it was turf. Meaning it was gang territory. You'd get hit by bullets left and right. Now he's using the field to teach his 12 year old son to play. He tells me I want to learn how I tell him let's go.

Dick Fosbury, who won an Olympic gold medal with the ‘Fosbury Flop,’ dies at 76
"Fosbury flop high jumper dick Fosbury has died. I'm Lisa dwyer. Dick Fosbury who completely revamped the technical discipline of high jump and won an Olympic gold medal with its Fosbury flop, has died. Before Fosbury, high jumpers cleared their heights by running parallel to the bar, then leaping over it with a scissors kick. At the 1968 Mexico City Olympics, Fosbury used his new technique to set an Olympic record and win gold. Fosbury took off at an angle leaped backward and bend himself into a J shape to catapult his 6 foot four inch frame over the bar.
