"I feel, what could happen this fall? Is this suddenly Aaron Rodgers and of driving rainstorm is an Aaron Rodgers. Maybe you get the same thing with the Democrats in November. Bobby, making so many football analogies, I have to get your take on this part of what will be at play here in the election is the Buffalo Bills stadium deal as part of the state budget. Again, the way that governor hope will handle this seems to be providing ammunition for both your primary opponents, Tom swazi, the congressman, the representing Long Island, parts of Long Island, and parts of queens, public advocate jumani Williams. And then of course, general election opponents, although sometimes you get people who sort of mostly acknowledge that they kind of are fine with the deal, but they don't like the process. How do you foresee the bill situation helping or hurting her? It's obviously helps her with her base in western New York. Yeah, and first of all, I have to be up front for confession. I'm a huge Buffalo Bills fan. That being said, it's like this never would deal would never have happened downstate, like for the Yankees and then that's like local lawmakers would have killed it, I think. And it's good for her that buffalo is a hundreds of miles away from New York City. I think the primary primary opponents were really, really robust. And they're there. But you know, I'm talking about neck and neck in the polls. This could be a real issue with democratic downstate voters. I think it plays very differently in the general election. This is a huge win for her, I think, upstate is particularly in western New York. And I think that they balance that out. And they can argue correctly that lots of other states and cities have subsidized stadiums before, but not to this level. A side note. But I think actually it does politically benefit her. I know, you know, it's funny I was wearing a Buffalo Bill sweatshirt the other day when I was at a children's party and for our kid from kids in the New York aquarium. And a couple people actually came up to me to talk to me about the stadium. It's really not popular. I'd say with a certain swath of voters downstate. But I think they knew that going into it. And I think they did, I think they made the right political calculations on it. End of the day, as you were sort of getting it earlier, there are going to be too many anti stadium deal one issue voters, right? People who might not like it, they're still voting on things related to COVID policies. The economy and so forth. And also it's liberal Democrats, typically who say this is a handout to a giant company. Are they going to say in October? I'm not voting for Kathy hook and I'm voting for Lee zelton or I'm staying home. So I think that's what they thought. And I think they're probably right. But if this was a really tight primary, this would, I'd say and this would have been a huge mistake. Well, and worth noting it seems to be part of the reason that the governor worked into the budget about $350 million in flexible spending directly for Long Island. And so by the way, that's just like a carve out, right?.

Senator <Speech_Female> sausa, a <SpeakerChange> couple priorities. <Speech_Female> <Speech_Female> Yeah, <Speech_Female> certainly <Speech_Female> good cause eviction Bill <Speech_Female> is my top <Speech_Female> priority. <Speech_Female> For <Speech_Female> post budget, <Speech_Female> <Speech_Female> clean slate, <Speech_Female> we came <Speech_Female> really close to passing <Speech_Female> clean slate <Speech_Female> last year. <Speech_Female> And it's <Speech_Female> extremely popular. <Speech_Female> I really want to <Speech_Female> see it become law <Speech_Female> parole <Speech_Female> justice <Speech_Female> as well, <Speech_Female> trying to <Speech_Female> the elder parole <Speech_Female> Bill, <Speech_Music_Female> fair and timely parole. <Speech_Female> <Speech_Female> <Speech_Female> That's really important to <Speech_Female> me. <Speech_Female> And additionally, <Speech_Female> on the note of <Speech_Female> <Speech_Female> an <Speech_Female> issue where <Speech_Female> we saw <Speech_Female> very strong support in the <Speech_Female> Senate and <Speech_Female> a <Speech_Female> little bit less <Speech_Female> from the governor <Speech_Female> and the assembly and <Speech_Female> the budget that I <Speech_Female> still think is <Speech_Female> really critical for <Speech_Female> us to act on is <Speech_Female> the all electric buildings <Speech_Female> act essentially <Speech_Female> a gas <Speech_Female> ban on <Speech_Female> <Speech_Female> new buildings. <Speech_Female> <Speech_Female> <Speech_Female> <Speech_Female> Our <Speech_Female> buildings are <Speech_Female> one of the <SpeakerChange> <Speech_Female> biggest generators <Speech_Female> of <Speech_Female> <Speech_Female> <Speech_Female> fossil fuel <Speech_Female> pollution <Speech_Female> of <Speech_Female> CO2 of greenhouse <Speech_Female> gases. <Speech_Female> And <Speech_Female> so I think it's really <Speech_Female> important that we <Silence> pass the whole <SpeakerChange> electric buildings <Speech_Male> act. <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> And we don't have <Speech_Male> time to discuss <Speech_Male> queen slater good <Speech_Male> cause, but people can look <Speech_Male> those up and there's obviously <Speech_Male> lots of coverage out there. <Speech_Male> Those lastly, <Speech_Male> now that we're at a <Speech_Male> budget season now that <Speech_Male> the lieutenant governor <Speech_Male> has sadly <Speech_Male> resigned from office <Speech_Male> and may or may <Speech_Male> not wind up still <Speech_Male> being on the ballot. <Speech_Male> Should we be <Speech_Male> expecting both of you <Speech_Male> soon to be jumping <Speech_Male> into the fray <Speech_Male> for the <Speech_Male> jumani Williams <Speech_Male> Anna Maria <Speech_Male> archila <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> candidates for governor <Speech_Male> and lieutenant <Silence> <Advertisement> governor. <Silence> <Advertisement> <SpeakerChange> <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> I'm going to take that one. <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> Anything can <Speech_Male> happen then. It's New York. <Speech_Male> So this is whatever <Speech_Male> you imagine it. <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> <SpeakerChange> Yeah. <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> Feel free to preview <Speech_Male> preview endorsements <Speech_Male> here. And <Speech_Male> then make <SpeakerChange> it official <Speech_Female> when the time comes. <Speech_Female> Yeah, <Speech_Female> I know that <Speech_Female> neither of <Speech_Female> us has endorsed <Speech_Female> yet for <Speech_Female> lieutenant governor <Speech_Female> or for <Speech_Female> governor. <Speech_Female> But <Speech_Female> <Speech_Female> just speak for myself, <Speech_Female> certainly <Speech_Female> I'm <Speech_Female> considering it, <Speech_Female> especially in <Speech_Female> light of <Speech_Female> yesterday's <Speech_Female> news. I think <Speech_Female> it's important <Speech_Female> for <Speech_Female> us to <Speech_Female> demonstrate <Speech_Female> our <Speech_Female> values <Speech_Female> and <Speech_Female> where we're aligned <Speech_Female> and <Speech_Female> support a strong candidate <Speech_Female> for <Speech_Female> lieutenant governor, <Silence> <SpeakerChange> particular. <Silence> <Speech_Male> Anything <Speech_Male> <Advertisement> you want to add to that senator <Silence> <Advertisement> Bridgeport before we say <Silence> <Advertisement> goodbye? <Speech_Male> <Advertisement> <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> I mean, I don't think I plan to <Speech_Male> <Advertisement> get involved in the governor's race. <Speech_Male> <Advertisement> <Speech_Male> <Advertisement> Or the <Silence> <Advertisement> lieutenant governor's race? <Speech_Male> <Advertisement> <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> I <Speech_Male> put a period on what I just said. <Speech_Male> Okay. <Speech_Male> All right, state senators, <Speech_Male> jabari brisport, <Speech_Male> and <Speech_Male> Julia Salazar, <Speech_Male> thank you very much for the <Speech_Male> time, be <Speech_Male> safe, be well, <Speech_Male> <SpeakerChange> appreciate the <Silence> conversation. Thank you. <Speech_Female> Appreciate <Speech_Male> it, Ben. Thank you. <Speech_Music_Male> Thank you, <Music> <Advertisement> Ben.

"January 2018, city council chambers in city hall, downtown Manhattan. Council member jumani Williams sits at a table with two colleagues. Williams, Corey Johnson and carlina Rivera are looking for a way to keep a lid on Airbnb. Johnson rubs the stubble on his round face and looks at the newly elected Rivera, dressed neatly in a blazer and skirt. So jumani, we wanted to meet with you to get the city council low down on Airbnb. I know you've been very active in organizing efforts against it. Right, we've been trying our best. We've passed law after law, but they're tough to enforce given the city's strain resources. And Airbnb keeps finding loopholes. Johnson looks concerned. He's the new speaker of the city council, and he has a lot riding on how this plays out. This really worries me. We both campaigned on ending New York's housing crises, but the problems only getting worse. Rivera represents neighborhoods, including the East Village, flatiron, and the lower east side in Manhattan. We all know it's a problem. In my district, we've got landlords taking Rhett regulated units out of the housing stock because they can get a lot more money per night on Airbnb. Look, Corey, you're a new speaker. I say we go after them even harder in city council. Meaning past and even stricter Bill, we could do that. Exactly. Rivera Johnson and Williams smile. The anti Airbnb alliance just gained two new warriors. May 3rd, 2018, a subway station in downtown New York. A man leans against the green column and strolls through his Facebook news feed. One headline catches his eye. It reads New York City renters paid an extra $616 million thanks to Airbnb. He clicks to read more. The city controller says that Airbnb has contributed to a housing shortage, and that is pushing rents up. He frowns at his phone, his rent has been rising. He had been annoyed at his landlord, but now he has someone else to blame. Airbnb build itself is fun. A boon to those looking for a little bit more income and a harmless asset to the city. Sure doesn't feel like that. His blood boils. This is bull. He navigates over to Twitter and spots a video titled New York is not for sale, and he taps to expand it. Airbnb says they want to help New York families. But all they really do is help themselves to billions of dollars. Statistics pop up. One in particular catches his eye. 75% of listings and black neighborhoods are controlled by white hosts. This is not okay. He retweets the video with a hashtag New York is not for sale. After the report, Airbnb gets heat. But a few days later, it catches a break. May 7th, 2018, Airbnb headquarters in San Francisco. CEO and cofounder Brian chesky is at his desk, checking Airbnb's latest numbers. It's been a rough few days since the report came out saying Airbnb has been driving up rents. Cesky feels frustrated that his team has not been able to change the narrative. It's lehane. Brian, are you sitting down? Yes, what is it? Look at the link I just sent you to The New Yorker article. Cesky scans his overflowing inbox and opens it. Holy crap. It's about Eric schneiderman, the New York attorney general who for the last few years has made Airbnb's life hell. Are you seeing this? Four different women are accusing him of physical abuse right after he became a champion for the me too movement. This is unbelievable. Yeah. And it could be good for us. He's going to have to resign. And then the state's going to be distracted by dealing with this mess. That should take the pressure off us. Well, let's hope so. We need a break. Within the day, schneiderman resigns. One of Airbnb's biggest opponents is now sidelined. June 2018, outside city hall downtown Manhattan. Rivera and Johnson pushed their way through dozens of angry protesters waving signs that say Airbnb hijacked 8000 units. Finally, Johnson and Rivera inner city hall, with relief. Cheese. They're so angry I could feel steam coming off of them. You're telling me. They both quietly look back outside of the protesters. Look, I've been thinking. Airbnb isn't cooperating with the city. We've got to do something else. What they come up with is a bill that can be enforced. It will require Airbnb to report all their listings to the office of enforcement or face a $25,000 fine for each violation. But most importantly, it shifts the responsibility for the listings from hosts. To Airbnb. Rivera and Johnson go one step further. Airbnb will have to provide the addresses and names of hosts to the city every month and note where rentals are for a room or whole apartment. It's practically designed to make Airbnb. Go ballistic. But despite Airbnb's headaches with the city, it's not letting that battle keep it from forging ahead. It has greatly broadened its horizons. June 2018, it's a warm day in New York. A woman logs on to Airbnb dot com. She leans in for a closer look at a picture of a yurt against a vivid sunset. The text next to it says, not sure where to go? Check out exotic adventures. She scrolls down the listings. There's a treehouse in the Costa Rican rainforest. A unique home built into a cave in Santorini. A beachfront villa in saint barts, a country estate in Tuscany, an igloo in Finland. Hey, honey, honey, come here. You gotta check this out. Oh. Together, they flip from a photo of a palatial open plan mansion in Greece. To a rustic cottage right on the beach. Castles in France. Wow, these are awesome. Below the listing is a section called experiences in Greece. Hey, one of those. I don't know. Let's see. Cheese making with locals, goat milking on a farm, a diving expedition off the island. A.
