Bond set for father of July 4 shooting suspect
"The father of a man charged with killing 7 people at a July 4th parade appears in court Saturday. He's charged with 7 felony counts of reckless conduct for helping his son get a gun license. Robert krimo junior's bond was set at $50,000, the judge agreed to his release, he must hand over any guns at home on Friday when cremo turned himself in, Lake county states attorney Eric Reinhardt said, charges were based on the dad's sponsoring his son's application for a gun license before the July 4th shooting outside Chicago. Harrison guardians are in the best position to decide whether they're teenagers should have a weapon. Reinhardt wouldn't elaborate but authorities have said accused shooter Robert cremo the third attempted suicide by machete and family members had said he threatened to kill everyone. They reinstated their 6 to three. That's interesting. 6 to three. Under these maps, black voters. Will only have, let me read this. I'm going to read this, this was written on vox dot com by Ian, melcher, I hope that I said that properly. Thank you, Ian, for this report. And he says under these maps, black voters will control just one of Louisiana 6 congressional seats, despite the fact that African Americans make up nearly a third of the state's population. Thus, the court's decision in are done versus Robinson means that black people will have half as much congressional representation as they would enjoy under maps where black voters have as much opportunity to elect their own preferred candidate as white people in Louisiana. Now, isn't that something because isn't the whole reason for Independence Day is that the people who rose up who were probably 99.99% white said, we will have no. Country over us if we are not representative. No taxation without representation. And here we are in the state of Louisiana where a group of people will not have proper representation. Okay? The Voting Rights Act does not permit racial gerrymandering. A preliminary injunction temporarily struck down the Louisiana maps. And ordered the state legislature to draw new ones that include two black. Majority districts. That's something, isn't it? Here we are. 4th of July. And in the state of Louisiana, there will be voters that are going to be taxed and not have the proper representation. This is why we need to vote. We need to vote to make sure that we are represented properly. We need to fight voter suppression. Okay? I know we say the same things over and over again, but look at what we're going through. We're losing freedoms. We're not gaining any. Not only are we losing every type of freedom you can possibly think of, but even losing the freedom to vote for our representatives based on. How many people live in a state. Everybody else has their representation, but we're not having any. Okay, I'm going to talk about upcoming elections for federal office. Okay, and the following states have elections for federal office in the next 90 days. So let's talk about August. Now, oh, I'm sorry, I'm starting July. July 19th, there is a primary election in Maryland. July 26th, there is a runoff primary election in North Carolina. Why am I telling you this so that we can be informed and understand when our elections are coming up? Because it is sometimes these elections, you might not hear about them. I have people on the phone who say, is there an election? So we just need to keep track. Sometimes there's election in one place, and there's not an election in another place. Okay. I guess. Primary elections, August 2nd, are going to take place in Arizona, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri, and Washington. Please make sure everyone in Arizona, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri, and Washington, August 2nd, you have a primary. I've already sent in my ballot. I have an absentee ballot, and I sent in my absentee ballot and already voted in the primary. August 4th, there is a primary election in Tennessee. "And there is really a fantastic book that's been out. It's called First Friends by Gary Ginsburg. Who's got quite a pedigree himself. Gary, How are you, sir? Very well, Thank you for having me Well, it's a fantastic book. And, uh, unfortunately, like every other Interview. There's only so much time, so let's jump right in these first friends that have an enormous influence on the president on an administration. Chapter one talks about Jefferson and Madison. Now, this audience is quite familiar with Jefferson and Madison. But Madison Was very, very close to Jefferson. I'm not sure how how much people know about that. Tell us Well, I certainly didn't. I knew they were great collaborators. But what I learned in writing this book is that they were also best friends, and they were best friends for 50 years from 17 76. So when Jefferson died on July 4th 18 26, and what I found fascinating is that they're 50 EUR 50 year relationship with deep it was emotional. It could veer between the serious like whether we needed a bill of rights to the deeply personal, For example, when Jefferson tried to help Madison overcome being jilted by a 15 year old when he was 32 years old, and they were complete opposites as I write, Jefferson was this tall, dashing Huge personality. Madison was five ft four and quite reserved, but it worked in combination and I think it's because Jefferson needed Madison's exacting mind and practical nature. As much as Madison needed Jefferson's bold ideas in large personality, and I think in my book, and I think in American history, it's probably the single most powerful friendship in the history of America.

"Which is the right to vote. So it'll be very interesting to see what happens with this as time goes on in the near future and who has the power to determine what might happen with election day. One of the things that i like about the debate over election day now is that it does pull up that idea that you stop federal holidays by complaining that they're going to cost money so in fact senate minority leader mitch. Mcconnell took a stand against the idea of having election debut federal holiday when he had those what america needs another paid holiday in a bunch of government workers being paid to go out and work and that has led people to suggest instead of creating a new federal holiday for election. Day rather simply to turn veterans day into election day. And that is i mean. It's interesting to think about how. We even ended up with a tuesday in november as our current election day. And that's of course because they didn't want to do sundays which was the day of of rest theoretically where you could have put it because people were in church on that day and because it takes a long time for people actually get to their county seats to vote. You had to give them enough time during the week. Day to go ahead and get to the county seat to be able to vote in order to do that. You wanted to pick a time when there wasn't going to be a lot of work to do around the farm so in the fall after the harvest is in. There's a moment when in early november when the roads are still passable but people aren't going to be stuck home on the farm harvesting so we got this tuesday in november. But there's no reason in the modern day world with the public transportation and the interstate highway act and the fact that most americans no longer live on the farm to mean that it has to be on that certain tuesday in november even though it has sat there since eighteen forty five we could in fact move it to something like veterans day. Now at this point. I think looking back at what we've been talking about in this episode. I think it's it's some of the takeaways and some of them very directly. Get us right. Back to june teens.
