"And you're a man and we have our history. But, I mean, you know, Harding has this history Tiger, Rory, Byron. Very canny. And now, Colin, you know, you know, I rally I was able to recite all those names going off the air. Last night was one of the Lincoln to everyone. Julie Inkster had loved clapped in my living room when you said that, by the way, I love just there. There weren't a lot of champions were here, but it kind of felt like they at all. All those memories have faded until Sandy and a great group of local local people led by sandy philanthropist, business leaders, people with a heart you know who they are. On, you know, you mentioned Grand Spade's Got Sollers. Uh, George Roberts, eight married rans. I should I should go down this line because we know that There's an incredible core group of people here in San Francisco who care about the game and care about making their community better and care about giving people Less fortunate to have a chance to be introduced to golf and perhaps Create a pathway to, you know better, bigger and better things in their lives, and theirs is just a point of it is I looked at Harding. I just thought it was just a big heart behind it. Ah, big collective heart of locals who poured their time and energy and resource is into building it back up, and then we had The responsibility to try to document and showcase it to the world and tell its story and then hope tremendous. The tournament unfolds in the end, and it did and I just feel really good about Everything. Everything this week that it came out of it a great new champion, Ahh Harding, part that will never be looked at the same the benefit for the game of golf. Whether it be just Harding Park alone. I mean, everyone's going to want to run to play it. People going to want to travel when they get anywhere on the West Coast is gonna want to go play Harding Park now, but how it effects Municipal courses around this country and the positivity that comes out of this message of getting getting kids into the game and growing the game. It all kind of was just a A poetic confluence of a bunch of things this week and San Francisco on Harding part pulled it off on that note. You go rest. Thanks, Jim. We appreciate you so much. "Our farewell show and an awesome show with the PGA Championship. John Aban Drop here, Miss Juris itch alongside as well. And Mitch for we bring in, Tom, I I'll do it. Just a real quick run down on our guest today. Ah, we've got my son, Michael, Who's it going to be a scorer? In the group right ahead of Tiger Woods will talk to Michael from on site, Pat Sullivan. We're going to give a Mulligan. We're going to have him on again. Dan Turner are hooked on golf Club. And Ron Reed USD a former U. S. J and CJ official. And then we're gonna have a little fun and go retro on you all day, Bender and Jim arm and try out a couple of our TV producers of join us, and we'll produce on the air here, and hopefully Tom can come back for the the 8 30 segment if he's available, and we'll kind of wrap wrap up Tom there as well. Me and we will bring in Tom Spencer as we do. Every Saturday and mow many Sundays. Good morning, Tom. My goodness, This is it. And thanks again for Ah, For all the all the years and memories and Glad to chat with you this morning. A guy's good morning to you. Yeah, it's a Zen exciting day in the in the world of golf on DH for a Northern California sports and, of course, a poignant day for for us and and, you know, this is has been a As I kind of said yesterday. I believe to me I've always looked at this PGA Championship is a tribute to the northern, the history of Northern California sports and and the And the golfers Ah, that came out of this area and really thrived in the professional and course the amateur game and and have a big time event like this. It was in jeopardy. Let's face it a few months ago, happening as it is, and And the way it's been portrayed out of Harding Park's been fantastic or having unbelievable day, And by the way, there's there's a lot of big time golf between women's Opens and U. S and the U. S. Open another PGA in 28 Ryder Cup Me, guys, Let's just make sure you keep those those vocal cords warmed up just in case there's a lot of stuff coming up in the next few years. Mitch Oh, ah! But I have a great show today and then Ah, and then you guys out with a bang absolutely time. And you know, I got to thinking last night, and I think I've said this before, maybe three or four years ago when you stop and think about the gulf in this area and the people that have come out of your you know, it's pretty amazing, you know, Starting starting it always. Mr Venturi and Just go right down the line. But think about the people that play golf that got into broadcasting. You know you got Mr Venturi, You've got Johnny Miller. Bob Rosberg Marchal. I did it for a while. Nota Big day. Who's got some roots here? Dammit! Stanford! Roger multi in and you know now, Julie Inkster just tow us to a much smaller degree. This Syria, you know, they not only play golf that people here can talkto way. Do you have some talker? You're right. I mean, there's Bobby Clampett. We would throw bodies. And, of course, Aaron over Holder. Ah worked. How about Tom Spencer wasn't going to go there. But John Brody, I mean, John Brody could game pretty well and play the game and course, quarterback a halfway decent Haycock Rolande. I mean, Rick Barry. You know Rick Barry was into broadcasting. I know. CBS hired him for a few years even when he was still active N ba player. So, yeah, he's got Scott McCarron that broadcasted for awhile and then all the said he comes out and dominates the Champions Tour. Yes, I mean to make his point. There was a time in the early nineties, where Ken was anchoring. Ah, the lead analyst at CBS. Johnny Miller was the lead analyst on NBC. Bobby Clampett was in the tower, CBS on Bob Roxbury was still roaming the fairway. That was not that long ago, so I don't know There's something in the water, Mitch. It's been pretty cool. I my favorite thing about all those guys when they're good and two Rossi Rossi. What's his lie like? It's awful. That's a crummy lot. He's never going to get out of this. I used to love that. The fun stuff. Hey, Tom, but hopefully you can come back or you able to come back to the about the 8 30 segment this morning. I will be. I will be listening and then be ready to a 30. Yes, sir. Cool. Cool. Hey, just wanted to talk. A little golf here is well. I just saw an interesting note that I kind of lost track of. But Dustin Johnson, who's leading and I think there's 16 players within four shots, which is a number. I'm kind of focused on. But Dustin Johnson, who has one major Has led four times going into the final round. And that's kind of interesting will be. Ah, you know, we kind of carry that stat through and see if he can finish it off today, so ah, but lots of guys can win this thing with a lot of great storylines. Yeah, they were loaded and and this is going to be Ah, fun and challenging day for us at CBS Caesar. These air shows that really test the production truck immensely, because once you get everybody on the golf course we're doing six hour show starting at noon. The first couple hours. You're kind of easing into it. It will be showing a lot of Tiger and McIlroy Mickelson. Maybe a few of the guys that are out early sort of finishing their rounds and obviously then documenting players as they get off Teo starter there around and and maybe, you know, handful might get to three under par. Conceivably when Dustin tees off and there are scenarios where we may still have the lead, But that number you just described could could increase dramatically. So essentially, you're going to be chasing Ah, lot of guys around. You know, it's not a day where somebody is most likely going to separate by four or five shots, and you've got Sort of a cruise to the finish. So we're looking forward to that. But the stories are everywhere. Get the Northern California duo with Cameron champ and column or a cow..

"Pretty good shot so it was a nice for like I scored well it wasn't easy the greens were firm I made it difficult and and I ended up playing really well and and making making a good score you know getting up and down pulling a couple shots of the dreaming I did a good job getting the ball the whole they're still talking about his round today you know happy was with it so you know really really cool stuff there Tom and in a church can I can I ask my our for our great friend an engineer Derren Channa question because you know Darren of course runs the giants broadcast and we've known each other forever back the can be our days and that was that I think that was edited like in nineteen ninety eight you know what real the real do you see and they are I mean like that the digital editing skills that you have now is it how does that come across when you hear it now twenty years later well that was good because you probably have those on cards it right and have to mix that on the fly if you messed up you have to start from the beginning John gave me fill about twenty minutes before we went on the air we cut that thing up for probably five minutes SO in sailor argumentos right out here by for world is in at this so I don't we don't have to use razors anymore to snow the editor into getting with the real the real and all that stuff if if you're listening out there came the dark ages a radio if you know what the hell the we're gonna be one or two that I was wrong yeah and that way when I started teaching with that Bob McCaffrey's golf shop on Montgomery street we had reel to reel video so yeah I yeah I I know of what you speak Tom local guys a lot of good stories coming up I I love the this golf tournament and you can tell me if the other for him it's around the country do it but the eighteen T. is always brought in invites of local young players trying to make it uhhuh ground Brandon will this year was paired with Condoleezza Rice he makes the cut he's tied for forty fourth awesome for him to be in there and I know you've got a list of some others there yeah I mean it it's it's right to your point John these are names that we're gonna rattle off that will be planned pebble beach tomorrow that there are there if they're not household names yeah they're gonna be because these are all young terrific players that the that the college programs in the bay area and the junior golf programs around northern California are outstanding let's face it it's produced yup not only you John Abendroth with the the all the all the great folks that came before you and since we got maverick McNealy of who had that great run at Stanford with other this week neat neat that they did that pairing for maverick and he start to settle in and get his footing underneath him here out as a pro Joseph Bramlett who had a a lot of again out of Stanford a lot of notoriety and kind of went away for a while he's on the comeback trail he's had some good tournaments here lately and I saw he's got a sponsor's exemption from tiger to play next week down at the genesis at Riviera may also yeah yeah he he's making the cut camera champ now this is a guy that I wouldn't be shocked if a year from now we're sitting here hopefully we're sitting here talking about camera champ and he's a guy that appears to be a superstar in the game right he may already be at that stage but I look that good and he makes the cut here it is actually in pseudo contention Max homa who resurrected his career after daisy Qalawun last year at quail hollow lands Griffin to John's reference born that way up north there near lake Shasta has been raised in Virginia but there's those are six good quality young players you know very ages match that have great futures in front of a you know in the end you mended mentioned Brandon we were playing with a Condoleezza Rice and didn't she have some nice shots up there today yeah and you know another name I know he's not local but who is I I think so far this year it's been pretty impressive is Victor hobbling I mean this this guy is for real every tourney plays and he's impressed he's yeah you said yes if he's up there after he hasn't won yet but you know that takes time US senator when a record pebble beach very are and and last year was in the open and was I think the lowest score since Nicolas possibly as an ammeter in the U. S. open right and then he says he after he was frustrated because he missed the cut in Europe and missed the cut in Phoenix and he's like I'm gonna go home and chill out he's like well women I need to go to pebble beach where I've is basically only place for the last few years and he and he was glad that he came down he he just you know he realizes this is now a special community in a special upsetting but he's got the confidence to succeed here another guy that I don't think we mention yet their local guy Kevin chapel top twenty this week and he's coming off back surgery out of the Fresno area and so he's he's ready to rock and roll so again good good good names here locally well I think that very helpfully yep Max who won the NCAA's as did chapel and I believe chapel beatnik Taylor in the NCAA's or Taylor while interrupt so you know that's going back about eleven years now but but you getting back to NYC Taylor briefly he had a great ammeter resume that doesn't always translate to the pros you know we've sort of the names that we just were mentioning to you sometimes you have great ammeter careers like McNeely in homa and then you struggle when you get out here right and then other guys you know Brandon Lou I thought was a little under the radar and then all the sudden at the NCAAs last year for Stanford Mitch he just your burrows on to the scene yep a place here in the U. S. open gets his his diploma on the eighteenth green five our friends to Francis who by the way will be you're heading the USGA here officially in a couple of weeks congratulations to Stu goes over and qualifies for the it is open like he flew over there and qualified and then came home and then went back and played the tournament yeah so yeah I mean that you get it's a yet there's all shapes and sizes and ways to to to make it out here but you have to persevere to me this is a sport of perseverance the great ones hang around through adversity through thick and thin in a hopefully emerge and on top but on the other end somewhere you know Steve doesn't own Walter tendon Conrad rare sitting back maybe open up a bottle of wine and just looking at these guys and there these other guys yeah exactly right no so that are on the tour and really don't know the men's and women's programs together combined you go I mean just call the bay area and having go out beyond and it's it's as strong a college golf region John as I think we may have in the United States right now we didn't even mention San Jose state exactly right pumps amount left and right sure always has yeah and and they were coming off of and I'm in need some help here Julie Inkster was the the Solheim Cup captain yeah and her friend Faberge about her she understand the next captain yeah of the the Solheim Cup we got the LPGA coming up at lake Merced the end of March and then two thousand twenty one the women's open at pebble or I'm skews me a little bit and then here in twenty three we have the women's open here at pebble so that's a that's a great batch of women's term is coming up and we should mention that have hearses also the assistant coach women's coach at at San Jose state so I mean it yeah this area this this is pretty good and you know we we didn't even get into you know some of the smaller schools around here that do that do very very well you know that we had this is very who's here valve valve so no mistakes enormous stating this is always a very good Santa Clara is on the rise St Mary's has been good you SFU except for years I mean the there yeah just just a a lot of good quality girlfriend here and I think that the quality of the golf courses around here that these these guys get the play really helps them out guys are we're going to visit with arts manner we come back from a short break yeah the legend but let's let's hear one little bit here from Nick Taylor who is our overnight leader who talked about his round today that was very cold this morning circle all the one month to get off to the best start Bowie my first goal in the fourth over but it wasn't in that many poor shots just sure a relatively short but miss them I forced first toll on the thirteenth it's awful that can I.

"I'm assuming you didn't ask because the answers just the greatest game ever played it. It's a very good one. I don't think it's the best what so sam asks. What is the greatest movie of all time. The answer is the greatest game ever replayed Francis. We met the country club. Are you fucking kidding me. It's a great story in his greatest golf movie but the other things like Tin Cup's a good movie but it's like a comedy I agree but it's relating Moore's but ten cups related throwing these these are moving because those are movies are different than greatest right like the greatest like all right. This is a fucking great movie or funny. I put those two in different caddick. I'd say greatest subjective in this case in any case I I watched the grace game ever played and I'm like that is a fantastic from beginning and good shooting great story line the whole thing like the way that they do the dad I cry when he's on top of the guy shoulder and he's looking at his dad's dad finally acknowledged Francis. We met like this is it you did it God. It's incredibly so it's eight companies like another. One like borders in the line of like pretty has a real storyline underneath. There's like real dramatic relationships and like emotions that go into it. I think a lot of people brought you to tear in there I at the then when he fucking finally holds that shot out. It's also very relatable when he's standing in the rain with like he's standing there like ninety seven gimmicks on trying to figure it out because he's got the shakes that Shit's great so I I think Tin Cup ten comes probably Grays Golf movie for me. We've had this discussion many radio about like what is the difference between greatest movie funniest movie like like like. I feel like they should be in different categories. It's the same reason why like like Avengers won't win like movie right. It's like whatever makes like things to be in different. Categories like wedding. crashers is not going to win an Oscar. It's like one of funniest movies. I get what you're saying. Yeah I get it too. I would say Hey Tin Cup over the greatest game played plays like a drama I it is. I agree with that but I also again. I don't think like having happy. Gilmore's there's like a gimmicky move. Yes I write all time. He's little it's all time it's hilarious but he's literally like taking a fucking full run at the ball and swing and he's got a hockey stick potter and all that it's a gimmick ten copies ike it's like all about their relationship and his relationship with golf and what could have been and how he has the skill the like beyond the PGA tour but he's too go ahead case and like too much of a party boy in this and that and it actually turns into kind of like unfolding in this very emotional way at the end that I think probably chokes a lot of people up at the end when he's like melting down. You're like Oh my God. You've kind of dying inside because he's come this far so I think there's an it's not like on the same scale and it's so hard to compare because I'm thinking now like every time happy. Gilmore's on I watch it every single time every time quotable. It's one of the funniest movies it is hilarious. It's so good shooter everything about Matt. It's so good. It's such an enjoyable movie so like. Where does that rank yeah. It's tough but it's a comedy. Frankie doesn't count comedies. It's just like when you say greatest movie of All Time Greatest Golf movie. If you're going to be like oh you gotTa Watch this off story yeah like what are you going to show someone. If you have one chance to be like hey watch this golf story story the golf movie like it's about golf like what are you. GonNa show him. I feel like crazy. Member plays like it's like a historical reenactment of the game while I agree with that I would say on on the whole it gets kind of mini golf kind of missing ought of like serious golf movies yeah right like I'm just I kind of looked at up to refresh my brain like the legend of Bagger Vance. I've never seen that movie. Is that right no with will Smith No. Ramey talking about we'll Smithson a golf movie. Are you serious. I swear I had not I have never ever seen that one Matt Damon and Will Smith what in a golf behind myrtle. I definitely heard of it. I just never thought wow is very good. I'm avenue. I mean I'm going to watch his like this. Mysterious like mysterious guy who arise in like Matt Damon. Is this really struggling. Golfer who don't skip it is sick and then we'll appears in helping him out as his caddie and snow orange novel you gotTa Stop. That's a good that was good came out in two thousand. You guys are your offers. You just told me about the movie I said. I'm going to watch it and then what like ten seconds they are. GonNa make it. Here's how it ends. I didn't say how it ends. We just describing the I I was just warning you and I it coming out in two thousand does nothing to me because I just learned of it. In two thousand eighteen just learned about that movie. Just came out to you yup. I it's got a forty percent. Rotten tomatoes does your what is the greatest game. I played it. Rotten tomatoes. Tomatoes stinks sixty three percent pretty high for like like a fucking golf movie run tomatoes. You can't trust I yeah true. Oh you gotta look at the User Score Audience Score for grace game ever played eighty two percent very hi. That's what you're right now. Let's look at what is it called the Bagger legend of bagger Vance typing in I just can't Oh man. He just can't do it. Loading legend vagabonds bagger Vance sixty five percent audience score. That's sure that old school movie vibe dot it. Kinda got that. I'm not saying it's the best movie ever listing. I was actually that helps my argument that like there aren't a ton of great dramatic Matt Golf Movies Right. There just aren't a lot. Do you think there will be a movie about Tiger Woods life. Oh yeah a super. Well done one like starting from the beginning. He's a little kid who plays them. You know you gotta think there's like a really I think they find like someone. That looks might not know who it is yet. You know what I mean. It might happen to ask the Tiger Woods. They'll definitely find a kid. That looks like Tiger Woods at each stage of his life. Really you know what I mean. They'll find cookies ACA. He'll be on the show putting on the game game. Show and stuff like I can see that right now. Having you think they'll do it like dark like the book. Kinda was Dr Alive Celebratory. GotTa have dark to make it interesting to tell the whole story yeah but then he'll never sign off on it but I don't think he has to a movie about him now but I guess so. I guess there's a lot of movies that like the people say like we don't like standby standby base the whole movie the book and like the last five years ten years that he's going to have yeah and then you have a pretty fucking good move in that movie in that Bohemian rhapsody movie a lot of the people from Freddie Mercury family. I said like that's not how he liked did like told them that he had aids and all that stuff like they like stepped away from what the movement so yeah. I guess that you can do whatever the fuck you what who the how would play tiger. Woods like a twenty four year old tiger woods. We don't know who it is. An outbreak it would have the I agree yeah right yeah and then I mean just looking the movie. Obviously caddyshack is up there too but that's kind of I think that's almost a little bit more like gimmicky to and Kenya sometimes caddyshack is like I love caddyshack. That's got so many quotable things like so. It's just a movie that will forever live on a very very funny movie for all offers people exploding all that stuff you say certain things on the golf course but I mean it's I could. I sometimes get like sick of just because it's so old that can't get into it like yeah. I would say though it's like ten cup happy. Gilmore caddyshack like the three kind of like funny the comedy Classic Golf Movies. That's what I mean. There's not that many dramas game played is like one of the only like dramatic serious. CBS Golf Movies where if you've yeah you'd look at like football. There's a million Thanh Golf. There's there's two and we need like a hoosiers of one of them even know right. We need like a hoosiers of golf. I'd love I'd love golf any given Sunday. That's what I would like. I don't know if that exists you could just make it the same name there you go look at that because they play in Sunday's yeah that could work. Hell yeah is all right. I was just trying to think of like how you could slide another golf term in any in any on any given part but I don't know how you could all given because it's like you give yeah. Ooh match-play any given a free one for young filmmakers out there any given open. Brindisi Indices putt close parentheses blow my nose clothes drying. We're we're we're yeah that's a workshop and real thought and we're workshop and all right. Julie Stirs Up Next Excellent Cup. Solheim Cup team in Scotland a few weeks you on the terraces go city match I believe a couple of times yep though great history Harding and then of course tire remember we did there in two thousand five with John Daly which really got Harding back on the map from national and international perspective and unfortunately tire once again the visiting too many doctors and not enough driving ranges has left knee surgery this week and we hope that he makes a quick recovery but another unfortunately medical procedure for tire that a little bit of a setback form yeah you know Tom we we talked about tiger obviously for years and years and you know I I think he still does a little bit of this up and down move which you know the the left knee is is you know really flexing then hyper extending and is in a swing and it's just sort of surprising when when all that happens and you know I'm just surprised he didn't you know has it made some sort of a a swing it just went over the years but anyway it's hopefully he's better and and because the second plane you're at Harding in may yeah I mean you you you can count on it it'll be it'll be there of course but you but you're right now you're thinking about he he always claimed that that when he left but Charmin in which a lot of people wondered you know eight major championships between the two of them and and that an unbelievable run hard to leave guys coming up next season I'll be twenty years since that amazing two thousand campaign which you know we may never see the light to again in green golf but tire always said that one of the reasons he made the transition to Haney was to to take a little bit of the pressure off the left knee and and so you know again we don't know this is golf swing related or or or it's just the wear and tear of all the procedures that he's had thirty years on that particular knee he the rest of his body but yeah I mean it's just it is just disappointing that he that he has it I guess the the the telltale sign if you guys remember when he won the masters a couple days later he was in South Florida and there was some video that came out anyways noticeably limping and really there was not another tournament the rest of the year or you look like you and then sell so something happened earlier in the year he kept it quiet of course had the procedure done a few days ago and now it's hopefully quicker covering get ready for some more golf but as we get to the end of the fall segment of the of the season which will be for him over in Asia when he when he played in Japan Tom I've got some breaking news for you that involves a friend and co worker of yours I was up at the Safeway open media day and they had some announcements you know Phil Mickelson's gonna play in Fred couples and John Daly camera champ Adam Scott is committed so is Francisco Molinari but Tony Romo's gonna fly and apparently his deal is that he has already gotten a day off from C. B. S. first Sunday because he's planning on making the cut apparently he spoke you may not have them in the booth with that with Jim Nance if if he makes the cut hi I am a whole I am holding my abilities right now Mr under dissect the Chicago bear in Minnesota Vikings yeah in case were short staff that weekend I hope we are I hope so any is is raring to go and play at Silverado on Sunday that would be awesome yeah right I've seen a couple times here in recent weeks in any still I mean that there is not another man that is more yeah I was asked about trying to get a great golf and then tell me your next to is his family and his children and his job at CBS this is his passion in life and he's got the talent so it I I just give him a lot of credit for continuing to want to play against the best played again that's an awesome deal by the way you just mentioned there match so that's gonna be exciting used to be of course the kick off of and to the to the to the season the wraparound campaign and now they've kind of alter things where the Greenbrier which took a year off this season is gonna be back is the kick off that but but Silverado what a venue and yeah we're we're wishing Tony all dressed up there well keep his keep his time card handy I you know I did I think there's a chance that he might he might show up Tom a couple other topics Rory McElroy use you mention big win last week really big win and it was shocking when you look down the list of even you know what what third fourth fifth sixth place pays yet amazing how they've now transformed the you know the year end bonus into basically the person the term it and and the vantage the stroke advantages you became kind of a non issue I think we talked about that last week but really really big into you know almost a vindication for Rory you know he keeps sort of chip in weight these things but you know willing consistent over the the year but a great year foreman and but Berks Catholic came in as the player of the year but but big big week for Rory right and just to distinguish it I want to ask you to about the player of the year that that there are there are multiple awards so that the big one it's still pending is the one that's voted on by the players and I personally think one captive bead McElroy in Memphis head to head on Sunday that he took care of the player of the year I thought Brooks from start to finish with the best guy but but there is an argument for Laurie no you when the players you win in Canada with with a brilliant sixty one on Sunday and anyway last week as you point out fifteen million in the bank I remember when Curtis strange won at pebble beach at the tour championship about twenty years ago and and it was a big deal the one one million dollars so and it still is about Jorge one billion dollars would be would be great for anybody but I I I just feel like it maybe you guys disagree that kept just the majors are are still you know that the grand Daddy's and Brooks of one three of the four probably should on at least two of the four did win one and then of course are the WG he and this consistency all year so to me he's going to go back to back you guys have any any thoughts on that I I couldn't agree more I couldn't agree more he's the guy yeah yeah no G. exactly so so cool stuff there Tom the other topic I want to mention and we we chatted about him a couple weeks ago when we were together that you the panel Crosby is the coach but captain for the Walker Cup which we played this coming in coming week September seven through eight royal Liverpool in Hoylake England but recall local story I Z. as Celinda from south San Francisco and Brandon will both from Stanford are part of the Walker Cup team and if the annual greed to be on the show with us you know within a couple weeks after the the Walker Cup so really look forward to that it is it an incredible honor form I saw him with a year and a half ago we were down in South Florida by the way you know sadly again Florida bracing for for mother nature here in the next few days but if Daniel as live in South Florida for a long time and he had just been named captain and and this is in a two year journey forum course we all know about his incredible amateur career winning he went down just a few yards from where you guys are sitting today playing on the Walker Cup team himself and he's got an unbelievable roster with guys the unit's mention Stanford the that the both the guys there of course our premier players I'm sure will compete in and and all the matches you got to do or how I guess that he's been a you know a great many amateur player here the last few years coal hammer who's it up and comer it would no doubt will be on the tour someday and of course he he lost the ability to coach and captain I should say Matthew Walton calling for cow to think how great the team would have been if they had stayed ammeter for a little while longer but say again between the Daniel and Julie Inkster you've got to bay area native is there going to be representing the United States here the next few weeks overseas as captain so great honor for both of them Tom they're giving us the hook we gotta go but I just have to ask you you know with with Rory winning fifteen million dollars and he being in Switzerland do you think there's anything going on with the Swiss bank account what do you think at least the Swiss watch I I I don't know I mean this is a good time to invest in a in a shallow a than in the Swiss Alps I would think buy yourself a winter resident yeah good point although Rory's on the side where they're giving them watches you enough to buy a home so good point yeah Tom thanks very much appreciate the wisdom as usual and we will we'll chat next week look for I do enjoy Harding guys take care all right all right very good Mitch I know we often have breakfast here is you know we we my search morning but as we have some of San Francisco's finest during joint breakfast with a view that's right we have five police officers there so I feel really safe now although we better behave ourselves that's right yeah that's right and and right around the corner if you if you need to have breakfast at nine you can stop over at original Joe's Wesley or and I know what they have there they have they have almost and bloody Marys and.

"Joe's barbecue I met Clements along with Ben Clements and Scottish series as we talk about the NBA finals that could end on Monday night in Toronto. But I want to go and talk a little football right now free agent quarterback. Johnny Manziel has expressed interest and the XFL's. No Houston team saying he would relish the chance to play in his home state and be reunited with coach June Jones, while appearing at the TriStar collector show in Houston on Saturday, Menzel, discuss if NS is XFL possibilities with multiple reporters. He told the chronicle that part of an interest would be based on the team's proximity to college station. Dada, Dada, da, Manziel played for the Hamilton tiger cats last year under June Jones, a former NFL and college coach Menzel toll FOX twenty six sports that are very cool to play for Jones once again ban any chance for Johnny Manziel to be on the XFL came. I think it's highly likely that this will happen. He would be the most famous XFL player in the league. And I can't imagine Vincent, McMahon wouldn't want this. I think it'd be a cash cow for Houston. And it sounds like June Jones wants him to play for the team to. Yeah. So I think this is almost a guaranteed lot that we will see him in the XFL. It's just a matter of how long we'll see a minute, he will sell tickets. Gotta do you think he will have a place in their Phil? Well only to sell tickets. I don't that his impact is a player. I just don't see it. I really did think he had had a chance to be a pretty good professional player. But boy, you know, his personal life down just mess it up. And then he got let go in Canada this year. Right. The last place. Before getting kicked off the team. Yeah. But there's a reason he's not the NFL ages, talented not twenty twelve anymore. He can't play to the level of these guys can't play. He's not Baker Mayfield. He's not Russell Wilson he's flamed out. And I, I think the XFL is the best he can do. And you're probably right ban just to sell some tickets. But let's, let's be honest, and I hate to cast aspersions he's at the TriStar collector show in Houston today. He signing autographs for money, and he's still in his twenties. He has no professional football resume. He still loved by got a divorce poor man's got a divorce. He needs money every Aggie still loves him in every Aggie should love him. Because he personally built that addition to Kyle feel when he got the Heisman Trophy. Well, he was spectacular in college. Yeah. No question. What are you gonna make in the in this XFL? I have no idea. What's even guests? But I'd say about eighty thousand dollars eight dollars. It's a stone's throw away from Houston. South. From college station. So I think it's a match made in heaven. So if he was playing XFL in Austin, theoretically, would you go see, I think I'd go same, too, same. You buy ticket and go. But it's still, it's Johnny football. You go to see the great Johnny football. I this is the best he can do. I think it's going to happen. I don't. This is probably the best case scenario for Vincent, man. He's gotta star. He's got star there. But then again manual wanna win. And vents just doesn't want to have a circus like atmosphere. Most of the time needs that there's, there's also reason the af didn't make it was boring. It wasn't good football this XFL. It needs to be the wild west of football. It's got to be what the woes ABA was that he was gonna be the of the twenty first century and football ABA was good though. You had Julius Irving and other playing. You had the, the, the basketball that was multicolored ABA was pretty good. That's where the San Antonio Spurs were created. The ABA. Yeah. A lot of teams were nets the Brookler the, the New Jersey. Nets were there. But I just, you know, I've seen the old videos of the US, F L, and I don't think we'll. Ever. See a football league secondary. The NFL like the USFL was that was great football. And that's what Vince McMahon. Aw, you definitely want to do that wants to be like that. If if he wants to be like that. He's gotta give steel some draft players some players. I, I don't think he's going to do that. He you know, you're gonna get some good players because Olympic rosters on the NFL. I don't I don't see the XFL lasting more than two years at most five one eight three six zero five ninety eight seven seven five nine zero five five to five. I can't remember remember the XFL player when Vincent this before, but I do the red and black. I remember that because I was probably about six or seven when it when it came to existence in what was it ninety nine started came back to guys run into the Senate deal to get the United? Again I that was in gals incredible. I'm pretty sure they allowed knives in numb John numb chucks in any of that stuff. It's just get the ball at all cost. Oh man. Who was that guy's name that what was the guy's name? They'd have to look it up. They had not eating games. Yeah. It was the best part. They allowed the nicknames in the jury. Yeah. But we saw what happened the af it was a great first two weeks. We had that one big hit, and it was kind of people digesting. Okay. Normal NFL football right? Let's get this. Af I don't see this being any different Johnny Manziel, jittery reflect was selected twenty second overall on the twenty fourteen NFL draft twenty second overall Jerry Jones came within thirty seconds. Jerry Jones was going to select what is Johnny MS nephew or son. His son, Steve said daddy, daddy, put that down put that down and instead they got a lineman from Notre Dame who still plays for the Cowboys. Yeah. I was rooting for him to pick Mandel though. I got it. I think Johnny's life would be completely different. If you didn't go to the Browns he went to a bad situation. It might not have been great him. Staying in Texas with all his friends and the trouble he can get an ear, but him going to the Browns was the kiss of death for his career and. His I don't want to say life, but it could be I live here. Ironically, the Browns now with Baker Mayfield, the formerly Travis star. They've got old Dell Beckham. Now. There are many people saying that the Browns could go to the playoffs, and I'm a fan of the Browns because I like I like what they're doing up there. But I think Baker Mayfield. He's not just a different quarterback than Johnny Morris. He's a much much better quarterback in college and his first two years in the NFL. He can fill the ball, much better. He's a more poise quarterback. He's bigger. He can run like Johnny could. But he was also he has his football IQ was one of the band overseeing. Yeah. Really good. This league is not gonna make it, they're going to run out. You remember the world football league. After that the world football for the well, but you know, they had John Matuzek. They had sand Craig Morton, and Danny what they had sand all these great players. And then they went busted before they could play. They could pay them in and it would have would have made it. But this money pit and you got to sell tickets before you can pay players and Bill stadiums, and all that kind of stuff. It's a hard thing. I don't think it'll last either. But if they go by the USFL blueprint something could happen make it fun. I mean the USFL had some players they had they Baird was very Sanders. They had no. Now they had Herschel Walker Jim they had Jim from buffalo Jim Kelly Kelly they had some players. Yeah. Yeah. If the XFL doesn't get greedy like yo L did and tries to make it something. It's not. I think they could possibly last for more than a year, one other football, too strange story coming out of Houston from last night, the Texans have fired their general manager. Brian gain the Texans hired gaining January twenty eighteen after former GM Richmond took a leave of absence to be with his wife gain was signed to a five year contract, Texas finished at eleven and five to win the AFC south. But lost to the colts in the wildcard round strains deal to fire something something's going on with this guy. We don't know about. Boy, that's it is for a team that is on the brink of making some history next year is a big season for them. They, they have all the confidence. They'll they can make it to the super. Hey, I'm on record next year that the Texans will have a better record than the Dallas Cowboys next year. Because I think Watson is a better quarterback than back Prescott. I know the Cowboys have Zeke Elliott but I like the full body of Houston Texans, Saint versus the Cowboys offensively and defensively. I think this is also I it's all about Bill, Brian, I think he's probably getting his way here, and I think he'll have a little more say in interesting. Yeah. And the personnel he gets and I think this is good for Bill. I think it's good for Houston to, but they have the personal they need they have. They have all the figures. They have all the pieces. Now they just have to to make it happen next year. You guys are going to have fun on the fan club. Yes. Because the NFL is going to be good for Texas. Oh, yeah. Yes. I mean, Houston and Dallas, you're going to be good team than I'm excited for, for football college football. Because the longhorns you're getting a lot of mention in a lot of national magazines, even though the bad publicity to laugh at McCoy deal. But I still think the longhorns are going to be good in that still looking forward to the September seventh game with LSU Tigers come to. Austin that weekend first weekend force. We can be dangerous because a long horns play Louisiana tech, and Louisiana tech omen Louis. Great omen. What's a great weather to get home? And why the Texas won the national championship in two hundred six you know they started against Louisiana. Lafayette. Is that right? They're playing Louisiana. Excuse me. Way techy shirt. Yeah. They're playing Louisiana tech this year. This season. There goes the way, I don't believe they have Louisiana tech the first week then they have LSU the second week so they play to the season air already cursed, it five one eight three six zero five, ninety eight seven seven five nine zero five five to five. If you listened last hour, please go to the fifteenth club, Facebook page to make your prediction for next week. US open golf tournament and we've talked a lot about that next week. It's gonna be it's gonna be fun to watch the open next week because it's going to run later in the night. I bet they'll Ron probably eight or eight thirty eight I think it I think the last time out there is close to three o'clock, which is found o'clock here. Yeah. So it's it'll be nine o'clock element nine o'clock, but the only thing and I hate to catch the Spurs fans 'cause I'm based like a nice guy on the radio, but I can't stand golf coverage on Fox Sports. I'm sorry. Go buck is a football guy. He's a baseball guy. And he's a duck out. A wall, the Wellington golf the one positive we get with, with, with FOX crews that we get the shot tracker on virtually every single shot, which I love to see that. I like seeing the little the little ark. They makes draws. That's the only good thing about it. I like Joe buck. He's my favorite baseball announcer. And he's great in the NFL. But yeah I'm with you. It's not the best crew for go. I love Joe buck to I think he does not have a good supporting cast. And now they brought in Julie Inkster who's very informative. I think that, that they're going to have Brad Faxon again here, and who else, what's your maybe over there? It's a shame. It's not with CBS because it's Jim Nance has back yard, he'd have to walk across the street to go to the booth. He knows that course inside and out Cher. It's a shame. It's not CBS. It really is. Because CBS does a wonderful job..

"You get kind of a list of what, what transpire they were. I mean winnings for was Helen Alfredsson won over and she shot she wanted to hundred today. She was won over two hours. She started to even and shot a couple of under powers in round two and three. And then we've been a second Julie Inkster and Trish Johnson t to what impressed me about. Julia was first day. She shot seventy eight. Wow. And came back with sixty eight seventy one seventy two t two. Nice. Now, I, I believe this is the second year of this event. Is that correct, correct? Last year, it was in Chicago, and I can't remember the course but we do have one of the participants. So local golf club. Oh, chicago. Yeah. Right. We do have one of our, our friends on the line. You participated last year. I believe she finished t seven last year. And she was competing for that top ten again this year and Suzy, welcome to the show you back. Hey, how are you? Good. I guess you guys are on the road heading back north not quite we decided. From much we're going to stay the night and head out first thing in the morning. Cool, cool. So tell us about your experience there. I know it was tough. Congratulations played strong again. How'd you think he did? You know, I gotta tell you, I, I was a little disappointed. I leaked oil coming down the stretch. But overall I'm really happy with my performance. I played, I think is most likely expect right now I left them out there, but I made some great putts along the way and hit some great shots. So for the amount that, you know, you know the spring, we've had in Michigan. So the amount of goals that I was able to play in preparation as able to put in I, I feel pretty good about how I did. Yeah. I saw watching today. I was kind of trying to update my phone and I saw your hanging in there on one over through the front nine and then I think you stretched out a little bit, you might have made a bogey in the first three on the back. And then I think seventeen yet a double. Tell us what happened there. Fairway after fairly after fairy all week. And I was fortunate enough to play with more Dany today. And, and he you know, with Poland six irons out off the tee that the kind of tightness, we're talking about the tea and, and, yes, why out-drove her a few times, actually. But yeah, so I was doing great with that. And then all of a sudden just thankful and on seventeen have probably hit it solid. But just kind of came over to bit and it caught it limb of a tree and came back into a bunker in the bunker, very soft year. So I wasn't a Friday, but it was just kind of sitting down there, hot bet fat, and then headed it in the. Yeah, yeah, my cameras in the car right now. He's not happy with me. Kinda ugly and new double there. And yeah, that was. But other than that, yeah, it looks like if you guys get into an argument you're probably gonna lose that one most times. Pretty good. I listen to her. Every single putt dead on today. I just didn't I didn't execute. You know, I couldn't make them today. I made a bunch of putt yesterday and the day before and just I was close. I was close on all day today and just couldn't get him to go. So that's how proud there. Thank you. Thanks so proud of you. He's Suzy time Lang here. Are you doing new good? Thanks for our listeners will know you finished twelfth three other Michigan. Women were represented there. Becky Iverson from the UP was fourteenth Cindy fig barrier of Mount Pleasant native thirty eighth. He linked Crosby from Jackson, thirty three do you ladies tend to hang out, invent like this and kind of celebrate that you're all Michiganders', or do you is it all business and you really don't even necessarily get together? Actually. Yes, in my folks, and actually, I am now to a remembers that country club of North Carolina down here and Cindy, fake rented a house inside the property there for she was with us last night, and hanging out with us that cocktail party and on our back porch having a great time. I didn't see much he or Elaine. But yes, I mean, we're all friends we all full for each other. Becky, we were just talking about how, you know, brutal that preparation was from coming from the north. You know what the weather, and I think that he actually said Thursday was her third round of, you know, two thousand nineteen so. What you're dealing with, you know, and, and she's still played, great golf. And yeah, so we do a little bit. We're talking about tiger not playing for a month and. Yeah. He probably still got a few more rounds in than that. I'm sure. Oh. From customers down here and they were asking me, you know, have you been preparing playing to the currnent and, and. Played and they've played forty this year, you know, travel around and face invites and stuff. And, and they said, how, you know, I well, Thursday will be my seventh round of the year. You should. I should've said it was those two or three putts. You hit him between watching the heck hit a few balls at our place. Practice and then somebody comes from home and can't find something you're gonna have that. It was funny because yesterday I after work at reigns to go and play over it at your club. Barton hills. In the first mission. I run into is your husband, Mike on the punt agree, and I go I go. Hey Mike how you doing? He goes great. How you like a good Hudson today? Yeah. Because she shot to under. And I think she's in the top eight right now. It's awesome. I go great. I go sounds like you get another new kitchen. He said, yeah. Maybe we're not ready for sure. Well, susie. Hey, we're proud of you. Safe travels. Thanks for calling in and joining us, we'll see you soon the weather here is still around fifty so come home in another three or four days. It'll be a little warmer. Go play the cradle down here. All right. I think guys, okay? Thanks, take care. So, you know Suzy how state Buckeye? She's been a great golfer. She is such a simple swing. It just it's a matter of how she putts here. And there she's got a nice short game show. Very simple. And I think on, on lake yeah. On akot. It's very simple. And I watched a video teed off, I think yesterday and you know doesn't hit it overly far but just pretty consistent steady. And does everything pretty good and stays healthy shit, a little bit of back issues this year? But, but seems to be pretty good. So running around those kids now for listeners, the don't know she's the daughter of the famous Pete, Pete green, while the best in the entire history of Michigan. He even caddied for a couple of years ago with the Michigan women's open that she one related to see them working together. I'm playing with Pete's brother. John green and his son, Ben green tomorrow at red run, and the team Selfridge championships. What are you gonna you never get enough? I'll tell you that I think we've got like a nine point something nine point. Something that I won. So. Well, that's good mix. So we'll see what happens, of course if we play if we play. Right. Are you in the afternoon? Yes, we're in the we'll see at once. So Craig anything in regards to, you know, different training mechanisms for women versus men. Elderly men versus elderly women, how things changes to the bodies slowdown more for men versus women. Do you think? I mean in sports in general. Well, I mean, we do you know just from a male female perspective. There's a lot of things that we never have to deal with. Right. That we with. And then they reach that point where, you know, that stops and you tell you what the N word, yes menopause. Yeah. So, you know, I think. You know I think that plays into, and they have the you have to factor that in your this like they go through a whole nother change, you know. And it's like, you know, everybody goes through puberty once in women go through another kind of cycle in their life, and they, they have to change. So I think there, there are some things that have to do with younger women to as their going through puberty and chain in their bodies changing, too. They, you know, they, they have that whole female athlete triad. You know you have, especially with competitive, you know, young women, you know, the, the, the triad, is where you know they're very lean. They're working out regularly. They're playing regular sport. And sometimes their, their mental cycle cycle will stop. And that'll throw everything off, and that can cause all kinds of different issues. I mean, I'm not a guy in Colorado, but, you know, working our field and that's where we'll see. The women young women in their teenage years are more susceptible to ACL injuries. Okay. Just because of the way that, you know, women's hips are arranged differently than ours because they have to, you know give birth. So that's a good point because I had a couple of eighties in for lessons this, this past few days. And, and we talked about hip alignment scoliosis. Is that common for women's hips to maybe be a little more misaligned rights? I mean, they have they have a little bit.

"Wilshire country club, or we just got a chance to experience the layout. Absolutely beautiful. What a great venue for this particular event for the ladies, anyhow their media manager media director of this great event on the line with us right now John show how you doing. Great guys. How're you doing? We're good. We a wonderful day. You put on a great day. It was a pleasure to be strolling around with the Greek star, Natalie goalposts. Yeah. I mean, it was it was fun. And there's more fun in store for everyone seems like. You know, I I travel a lot of different golf courses out in. It's funny that you mentioned going up to me because I get you don't want. In and of itself is nothing is like Augusta. But one of the really cool parts. I think about walking around Wilshire is just a history that place. I mean, it turns a hundred years old this year. You know, there's all kinds of stories about old Hollywood celebrities, and it's just it's just a really cool place to just be. Driving? Getting off the one on one famous a one zero one freeway and exiting vine and heading down. And all of a sudden here in Hancock park in this like jam of golf courses in the middle of LA. And it's just so it's odd. But it's absolutely amazing. Yeah. It's really cool. I mean, it's actually got this book because if they're. Centennial year this year, and it recap kind of the history and just basically how the court, of course, was built on abandoned oilfield. You look at some of the pictures nothing there. It was just a hundred acres of nothingness, and of course, was dealt and then the city just completely sprang up around it every time I play around a golf there with a member or somebody who's got some history there. I always hear a news story from the late. Great Howard Hughes who was a member to so many Hollywood celebrities. It's always fascinating you ever get tired of those stories. Now, you never go to the park. But we've actually talked about trying to find a way, you know, almost like a museum. As you walk around. And it's, you know, this is where Howard Hughes, you know, and then girlfriend time Katherine Hepburn rumor was kind of the story was that she walked out on the balcony and her Rover distracted people. He was playing again. I mean, there's so many stories around that place. This particular your vantage you speak about Hollywood talent. But certainly some of the best talent of the world when it comes to golf all showing up, including your defending champion teutonic gone. But honestly from the likes of Brooke Henderson, Lydia KO representing to Natalie Golda. So we had a chance to spend some time with just the other day. You know, Morgan Pressel the list go on and on including Michelle, we I mean, it's just awesome. Crazy. I think it's scripts ninety one of the top money winner fortunate teenager winners every woman who has held the top spot in the world Rolex rankings two thousand eleven. Yeah. Every every winter so far this year, including that record is he's gonna come into our own this year. Did you did I could be wrong. But is the is our one of our favorites. Julie Inkster hall of fame. We're going to be coming there. Julie is it's an early commitment. So technically, you're gonna find out. So the for that week. So we have what's called an early. Listen, she's on there. So. Yeah. Yeah. So that should be all so the newly engaged Michelle wheat, really I didn't hear about this. I heard about breaking a lot of people around the continent mistaken, Jerry West. Fun basketball legit. Interesting. Okay. Jerry west. I mean, I don't know. Want to her left arm hanging three inches longer than? Peso tickets available as we speak. We're gonna do an equal outdoor mileage on eighteen for people who want to have a little bit of elevated student drank. Pink eighteenth lounge. There. You know? The weather. Notorious and we've got that Conan beer, then we've got the really cool thing is with the hundred year burger year anniversary. We're actually Nick that passed where you are essentially a member for the day, you get access to the club. You eat a member dining beverage abuse and the clubhouse. I mean, it's it's a pretty remember per day. I love the website. Yeah. Everything's here. I mean, LA dash open dot com. You know, it's one thing to go to professional golf event. But as we've mentioned, I even told Jenny the other day Jenny, Shan, I sit look at it as opposed to Jenny Craig. Yeah. Well, let me tell you Jenny Shane who's absolutely just a tremendous talent. She she came out, and she was talking about because we were talking about how I love the women. We praised the women on the show because of how perfect their swings are compared to. Let's say the other the flat belly guys on tour and the older guys sorry on the champions tour at the end of the day. These women are absolutely some of the best in the world. And look at it. "Pro-Am just steps away from I t here's Mitch and John on the sports leader. Welcome back to vote on golf AT and T National Pro-Am and kind of fun to catch up with folks during the year. Although this guy that we're going to bring in catch up with. More than at least once a year. Ed vita is here who had let's see multi-tasking over the years. You were with the moderate herald for a number of years office golf Writers Association, and and now assisting with Kristin hunter running the media room. Thanks for sitting down with Tom. Good morning. Good afternoon, Tom as well. Thank you very much. Great to be here. I can't wait to hear stories. He's been he's been covering this tournament for forty years. So he's got to have a boatload of it's funny. I I started, you know, I'm a local guy grew up in watsonville and been around Santa Cruz Monterey forever. And I came to the tournament in the mid seventies. I was a young writer, and this kind of stuck with it. It was great. So. Yeah. Been around for from from being on through all the years of basically everybody days difference in the seventies and eighties version of this tournament too. Now mean the flavor is still here has gotten bigger, but a lot of the components are still the same. What would you say would be some of the similarities, maybe some of the notable differences? Well, I think the similarities or the camaraderie between the pros and the. Matures? You see that you know, everybody to want to come and play with family, friends or end up making new friends. You know, Paul Casey was talking about the gentleman he played with many many years ago. It was the first of any ever played in as a pro. And they're still friends today. You know, that's twenty five years. Probably. So that's kind of cool everything is much more slick, you know, everything's very, it's entertainment. Now, that's the whole tour too. But but Pebble Beach really was the start of entertainment on the tour and Paul Casey was cute in the interview room that he he talked about the eighth hole. Some of the changes for the US open where they've kind of moved the fairway about fifteen yards right knee. And he says I used to have to aim at this gentleman's house. He goes, I can't pick of it. But I know the guy of net am I know that man's name. But now we have to aim at the house next door. It was kind of cute how he said that. So you know again over over time. Those are the things that change at mentions celebrities and actually Paul is married to a British celebrity. His wife is has been a TV reality star over in Great Britain. And now they're living down in Scottsdale. So he's had a little bit of the behind the scenes nature of the entertainment world. He's a great guy. I'd Paul was struggling with his game a couple of years ago, and he came up to the tower at one of our events and did a did a segment 'cause he had a good round. And I said to him afterwards. Hey, not today and not tomorrow, but years down the road when you're done with golf, you make great television golf announcer. He was kind of like looking at me like I'm not ready for that yet. But he's very well spoken. He's got a good sense of humor. He can articulate golf well on TV when he has that opportunity. So and more importantly, he's outstanding player ad and he's only won twice on the tour. And I would think that tomorrow. I remember last year. He wins in Tampa holds off. Tiger Woods down the stretch. I was only a second career win. And he's been a perennial Ryder Cup player for Europe. So to win this event tomorrow, and you can put it in perspective because the guys that win here generally do big things in the game most often Ennio which really be unusual to he would only be the fourth non American non US player to win. Bruce Crampton back in the sixties. And then Brett Ogle, the one time wonder from Australia and then a few years back VJ Singh. Writes, it it's been Americans all away. And yeah, he's great. Stay up late and watch some of those European tours telecasts or there early in the morning telecasts. He's fun to watch on TV cases. A great player. We just don't see enough of them here. No. He's an ASU guy which will make the pairing with Mickelson interesting tomorrow. So when when Paul was it a s and by the way, he was winning. What was in the Pac ten title now Pac twelve but he shot a sixty in the final round to beat guy. We know. Well, Joel when was at Stanford in the final round. So he was a very good college player, but Nicholson needs to come back and speak to the team. So they have to have a relationship that goes back many many years. Tim Mickelson who's now fills caddy his brother more importantly was the coach ASU. So it'll be a big day for Sunday tomorrow at and are they gonna play together because we don't know that for sure. His. Lover. Yeah. The the the parents of the teams Glover made a bogey. So he fell back to eleven. So you got Paul's at fifteen Nicholson at twelve year, the top scores in all likelihood, I would say there are gonna be you know, if group tomorrow, even if they're amateurs make the cut. Yeah. And that is the tricky thing out in the amateur dynamic tomorrow does add a component here that that is unusual because you can get you can get a player, man or woman in the final grouping. That's really not ready for that atmosphere. We've seen a few times and the players are just as pocus on getting their partner a championship is anything else. Remember DA points when he won. He was more happy that he and Bill Murray one the pro-am that was bigger deal. Well for Bill Murray, this is like his his master's, the US open, you know, to be playing in something like this. I know why these guys play the downhill Cup and they play others. But, but this is really the big deal with the TV coverage, and all that's the voice of Ed v. Join us Tom Spencer is here as well. And Ed been here forty years. At you. And I talked earlier kind of a unique growth here that nine excuse me. Ten women playing in the event, I believe that's the most ever this year. And and breaking news Miss America makes the cut right? And you know, two women are making the catchily. I also is making the cut in doing very well in the leader board of the program. So two of the ten women are playing on Sunday. I mean, you know, twenty percent of the field. It's pretty good and ten is the most they had nine last year and that part of the field that segment of the tournament is really growing and for from both women in industry and celebrities this America being would love that. No doubt about it. I love it. Yeah. And she's got buried her name and helped me with the pronunciation, Kiera Cass cassettte cassette v. It's good with new John. She's was was was born in Russia. I believe grew up in the bay area. And and plays a lot of golf in the she's born in San Francisco for okay? Over the year before she was born. Yeah. And and I saw a cute moment. She in a woman friend of hers were leaving the putting green this morning to head to the I St. and Jim and Gary McCord run the putting green and they were doing like a selfie video walking off the green and their little theme was no no autographs, please no gymnasts, please know autographs, and they walked off, and they're really engaged in this thing, and and really really into it. So pretty pretty cool. Pretty what she was on the telecast just now she was jumping up. Amanda valley on his told her she'd made the cat and she always so excited. It was it was it was great. And that that is what an achievement to just play on Sunday. You could find yourself teeing off the tenth hole early tomorrow morning or the first whole late. It doesn't matter. If you're going to be in an atmosphere Rena that is second to none. And yeah, I remember what Ed you'd help me. I think this would go back to when you first started covering it. Didn't Nancy Lopez and Julie Inkster. Play amateur played this tournament goes back a relationship with women players to the thirties Bing invited babe zaharias to play at Santa Fe. I think four or five different women pros who played as pros against the men lost in history. But you know, we talk about women playing against tour pros now they were doing it in the thirties. Yeah. You talk about being having vision for stuff, you know. And he was just doing it for fun. Let's face it. That's a great point. Because we think of the of the momentum that that on account. Sorenstam's in two thousand and three. And then Michele we subsequent to that. With that interest with that generated. But as you point out babe zaharias was playing back well before then and doing doing quite well, what an athlete she was. So yeah, it's it's it's just me. I thought the Amador feel that would be another question. I posed for you add is that amateurs years ago really didn't have a lot of shining moments. It was it was almost like you Jack Lemmon annual he's gonna hit a ball into the ocean and make fun of himself and telly Savalas and whoever else you wanna think of Jim garner from Hollywood. And then it slowly started to change where in the last say ten fifteen years the folks that show up here from the Hollywood sector lease really bring their game and hit a quite a lot of good shots on national television. Oftentimes, we had like one year in the last three or four ten ten celebrities made the cut on Sunday. So it's not just, you know, come up here and hack around for three days. Well, that's hurt. Your in what we're seeing is the high profile athletes, the the superstar athletes who loved to play in this. Compete like Larry FitzGerald winning it last year Roger vision. Do you see what Tony Romo did off off the carpet yesterday? He makes birdie from the bar on the fifteenth fairway. It's incredible. Do you have the right credential to go up there to get that shot? His caddy didn't even go with him to give him a yard. She just played the shot by field almost like top golf where you hit it off, the, you know, the mat to the downhill target. Yeah. It was perfect. And there was a bar in the background. By the way, we should mention that he withdrew last night to fly back to Dallas to unfortunately, attend the funeral for Wade Wilson the late NFL quarterback most notably for the Minnesota Vikings. And Wade was Tony's quarterback coach. So some were wondering why Tony didn't play today with Jim furic? And that's the reason why but to ED's point when you think of Aaron Rodgers it looked like Matt Ryan was going to make the cut in. This is first appearance. I believe they're leading their second right up there. Right up there. So yeah. The athletes we travel in the NFL circles, and it's a it's a topic of conversation. It's comes up all year long. We're meeting with Aaron Rodgers. We didn't do a Green Bay game this year. But there've been times we've been up there in September errands already talking about the possibility of playing hoping he gets to the Super Bowl. And then hoping that the next week he'll be here at the AT and T, so even athletes have their profile truly look forward to this event. And I know one guy when quarterback that everybody knows that from the bay area that loves to come here. But couldn't this year is Tom Brady. Yeah. Loves his plus one hundred percent, and he's pretty good Tom's, really good..

"We it was we went out and we met with, the players we went to legends tour events which is that. The senior tour for women and we went to LPGA events we've been. Meeting with players since two thousand fourteen before we even, announced this in two thousand. Fifteen asking them what do you wanna see what do you. Want the experience to be like an and quite frankly we studied distances we watch how they played? Golf we weren't sure? How long they were gonna hit the golf ball three or four years ago. And so, you, know one of the cool parts of this experience here Chicano golf club this week we're allowing fans to walk down. The fairways with the, players that was the number one thing. The players that they wanted interaction with the fans and we wanted the fans to have that interaction back with the players and so, you know We have. Ropes around, the greens and tees and then just like our Walker copper US Amador you see two hundred. People just following the group along the, fairway so whether you're here just to see Chicago golf club and this magnificent, venue, or because you wanna be up close and personal with the golfers. It presents that perfect fan experience, for anybody who's here and I've talked to a number a couple of players. And one of the things I did say to the credit of the j I mean the the the LPGA, players have been chasing this? Dog for a long long time but I said to the credit of, the US Jay. When they launched the event they. Gave they gave them a signature location Chicago golf in of itself, stands as an attraction for. Championship this is a, first class venue it's one of our five founding clubs of the. US she, it's history architecture I mean this is this is this is the midwest Augusta National for for, those who don't know it it's such a pure, piece of property and I think for people that have the opportunity to. Come out this week See it I it's just a phenomenal place and and, you know we wanted this to be a first class experience for. The players it. Really was it was the right time for us to do. This championship I think with, the purse we've put out there at a million dollars with the Menes whether it be, brand new Lexus courtesy cars for players or having people greet them at the airport and put them in a car to get their, courtesy cars the name plates. In lockers we wanted this to be all around the best experience possible for it to hearken back to when they were playing in US, women's opens you know the the biggest golf event in the world for. For women and I think you know the players have said it time and, time again the. US shake, got. It right and we feel really good. About that and as, we talk it's, third round you've had a little rain, this morning but through, this week what have you? Learned new You know. What. I I've been amazed at one how good, these women are still I think back to the days of watching some of these players. Competed, for sills when St Louis had an LPGA event, and as a kid you know you you were just in our. And then here. I am you know gosh however many years later and I've. Seen the same players and, I'm still in awe at their personalities at how they interact and how well they hit, the golf ball and so I think that's been the most fun and the other part of it really has been this has been, like a high school reunion. For so many of these players whether it's JoAnne Karner Hollis Taseer or are these women who who've done tremendous things and then you see, Julie Inkster who who's who's just behind it still competing on the LPGA. Tour well and they're all getting each other's autographs and make sure they signed, stuff and it's. Just been, a. Cool week in that regard eight it. Gives you a personal, sense of fulfillment. And I can't imagine what these women, are feeling out here, and then have final question For Mets Wicky and you mentioned a cool week. And and that? Goes, to the calendar because next year you go to pine needles. Is this July date pretty much where this event is going to be going forward you know one of the things we've tried to do at, the US as, we've tried to create a US j. championship season and. So I, think, what, you're going to see is are open championships conducted every couple of weeks and that starts with the women's open up front in may that's gonna roll into the. Men's US open in June on its traditional Father's. Day date and I think you're gonna see the. Senior Open senior women's open either on the front end or on the back, end depending on the, year, in, the venue but you know we we go to. Such great venues at the US here country are Chicago golf club, Shinnecock Hills this year for open championships, another Seth Rainer golf course in Charleston and Pebble Beach next year for. Our men's and women's and then we've got a really. Cool. Venue for a two senior championships will planet, the Warren course at Notre Dame which is a phenomenal public. Off course on the campus At the university Notre Dame and then this pioneers which has an illustrious, history which has seen on a win Cari web win The best part about working at the US. As the places we get to go to and it's been a wonderful experience and I'm blessed to be able to. Do, it and you're. Hearing about and hopeful enough that sometime that's. What he's going to run a championship for the Saint Louis I I can't wait it would be a privilege to do that I can't wait to get back to Bellary even August just to see so many friends that I still have their that club did. So much for me personally and where. I am professionally because the people I met the experiences I had as a caddy, there I wish them the best of success and I, hope one day we've got. A number of US shea championships coming back no matter where it is in Saint Louis and look I, hope people come out we've got the women's medium there in. Saint Louis, at at at a great venue in at Norwood hills and so can't, wait to get back there in the fall and again I Saint, Louis is. Such a. Special place such a. Great. Golf. "Hear about you just did the us women's senior open at chicago golf club was that like oh my god that places so unbelievable you know it was it was funny i signed indie johnston i know our good buddy fried egg in psalm out on the golf course on friday i believe we were just kind of cruising around scouting because we we only did the weekend on the broadcast and he walked over to me and you know how it gets so excited he's got the smallest face and he said this this event is his brought me back to loving the game you know you know he's golf could be such work when you're doing it but it was it was such a cool mix of an unbelievable venue i mean chicago golf club is one of those ones that if you have a list of five golf courses you wanna play before you die it's probably going to be on any of nerds list and it's a mix of that and then just the field i mean i wrote this on twitter but i'd never been to an event in worked in event where people were just so happy to be a part of it you know i mean this is something that no you know the the lbj players that we're getting close to fifty of wanted to have happened for a long long time with the us and in it was just it was cooled the see that the passion not just to compete but to be involved and i thought that was you could really feel that from the players and you know it was it was a good leader board i mean obviously you know the the cream kinda rose to the top with with laura davies planes well julie inkster battling to win another us jj michio but just the feel of that was was really special and it was cool to kind of bring to tv because you know a first ever us j championship is something that you're not really going to be a part of much so it was a fun week and you know i mean you really just don't have to say much and just let the golf course to talk when you get to to showcase something that's that's rainer seating donald like that yeah that's that's what's so cool about the event was kind of bringing to life a golf course that is not capable of hosting amends championship in any way at the at the top level anymore but it's such a important course historically for the history of us golf and still just an incredibly fun challenging place in it's such exclusive place that not a lot of people got to see it before so hopefully people listen to this got the tune into at least a little bit to see the golf course and see the see the inaugural championship so did you get a chance to play it as part of your newbies you know we i was just had brad faxon on my podcast which is kind of talking about the open and just kind of talking about links golf in general and we were talking a little bit you know that i get that question a lot from people you know oh man you must have played it how was it and you know our schedule is just packed this summer i mean it's back to toback of events so we don't really have any time to do it but let me tell you what i do i go up to the director of golf and i always very nice to him and i try to get some sort of a business card for them and then in three months i could bug the hell out of them to maybe see philemon a golf course that's that's a good strategy it's working for you from.
