Mondays Summer do tend to be heavy but on the inner loop in the local lanes on the Wilson Bridge street sweepers were at work cleaning the left local lane and slowing the southbound pace on the inner. In Maryland between the beltways slow both on 95 and State Route 295 southbound on 95 southbound past 175 the work zone block to the left lane and on the PW Parkway southbound between 32 and 198 it was a broken down car locking the left lane. "Anything you could dream of. So it is all very twisted. We were talking in the commercial break. I mean, all of the so if Sumner was alive today and he read this book, what do you think he would say to you? Well, I think he'd say it's accurate. And one of the interesting things about Sumner is he was self aware. I mean, he was always saying, you know, I'm going to live forever, but he confided in one of his many mistresses. If that's what you want to call it. You think he knew all these mistresses were taking advantage of him, which is basically what you appear to report. Well, late in life, you see, he's deteriorating. And I'm not sure. I think part of the story is the vulnerability, which I think anyone could relate to as an elderly relative. But he was self aware for a while. And one of the things I found interesting, and he said, well, you know, I don't want to die because I'm going to go to hell. I'm going to be judged. But I meet my maker. And so he knew that there was a what do you make of the relationship ultimately between sherry, his daughter, and him? Because there is some sense that I think she still loves him in many ways, and there's a deep that runs deep, but his view of her, at least during some moments that you report in this book are horrible. So tortured and so horrible that it's almost hard to understand what those feelings could be like today. Well, that relationship is so interesting. And I think laws when written about fathers and sons, but not so much about fathers and daughters. And it's a very complicated relationship here. You see the gender issues, the sexism, his admiration for her at times, then his competitiveness, his jealousy, his resentment when she actually succeeds or gets some credit for something. Again, I think, again, anyone in particular women who have struggled with relationships with their parents will find this really interesting and rich. But I can't explain it neon and I'm not a psychologist. When you think about what's happened to paramount and CBS today, which is to say they've been merged back together. That's something that Sumner Redstone did not want to happen. Something that sherry did, and it's clearly something that Les moonves didn't want to happen, which was his undoing to some degree, definitely. How will that be measured? Well, I don't think there's really any doubt that sherry was right about that. I mean, scale. I mean, the business is going through upheaval as yes, everyone who watches your show knows. And scale is important. And they needed scale. They should emerge a lot a lot sooner. And they should emerge a lot sooner or you think that they could have sold off one of the businesses four or 5 years ago when valuations were to completely different place. Well, it's hard to rerun that. They would have been better off merging and selling the whole thing when valuations. Could they have sold off CBS, maybe. But I think sherry was probably right, merge them and sell them. And by the way, I think most people still think it probably needs to be sold. It doesn't really yet have the mega scale of a Netflix or an Amazon or a Disney+. But I do feel sherry has pretty much been vindicated, although as we all know, the market has turned viciously against the whole streaming model, and that's what all these companies pinned their futures on. Yeah, and if you look at Washington right now and the regulatory environment for any sort of a merger or a deal, like the obvious obvious candidate would probably be something like Netflix, that doesn't have a studio. But trying to combine a broadcast network, a big major Hollywood studio with a giant tech company like that. I don't see that happening right now. Update us on less moonves today. Well, you know, less moonves was very popular. He was named the most powerful man in Hollywood before his downfall. He still has many friends out there. Some of my friends have said, look, I don't really kind of know what happened there, but he really helped me in my career. I would never count him out. I mean, obviously he's long very low, but he has the support of his very popular wife, Julie Chen. Is it still the moon vet center? USC? No, no. Here's the thing that I think a lot of folks really want to know. And it's painted in the picture. It's painted in the book. Do you believe that when less went after sherry or effectively said, I don't want to do this deal, that that was his undoing and that she did it. Because it was definitely his undoing. And we were really lucky that we got all of these confidential documents. The transcripts, the text, the emails. I mean, somebody said, no CEOs ever going to text again after reading this. But you see it in real time what the agony moon beds goes through and trying to do. He decides to declare war on the redstones. At the same time, knowing he has these dark secrets in his past. He had no option. He couldn't lose face with the board. But there's no question that that was, frankly, pretty insane strategy under the circumstances. And it did proved his undoing. But it's not because of what charity. There were all these rumors that sherry planted these stories. That's what I'm asking you. No, there's no truth to that. I tell you, one of the fascinating things is that the board, especially, always believe the worst about sherry and the best about moonves. And I had so many rumors to track down. I wasted so much time. None of them actually turned out to be true. She did not plant those stories. She heard the rumors. She passed him onto the board. The reaction of the board was disgraceful. The sexism in there. Again, the real time comments, the remarks, they're like, oh, who cares about that? We all did it. It was astonishing to me. And that's I think the idea that you have the text and the emails. Right. And so much of this that goes back. Yeah, we have such all this original material. It's like you can't really argue with the facts, because it's right there in print. Transcripts, emails. Exactly. I thought I knew this story until I started going through your book. And there's so much more there that I wouldn't believe this if I saw it in succession on HBO, because it doesn't seem like it's possible. It can't be this bizarre. The truth is stranger than anything anybody's made up. Yeah, well, my jaw dropped so many times. Look, I bet a reporter a long time. And I've seen a lot. And I kind of think, this is one of the great things about being a reporter. You just think you kind of seen it all. And then, oh my God, something else surfaces. And it was during the pandemic, fortunately I had a co author because we'd call each other back and forth and say, can you believe that? We needed somebody to talk to. Rachel Abrams, we should mention Rachel. Yeah, they did a fabulous job. Definitely deserves a lot of credit for you. You guys are amazing. And I do. Khloe and Tristan are officially expecting baby number two via surrogate. Now, before you are really freak out, no, Chloe and Tristan are not back together right now. And they haven't spoken since December outside of co parenting their daughter true. Now, a rapper Chloe confirmed that the baby was conceived back in November. One month before news broke that Tristan had fathered a child with another woman. All right. Okay. So this is so conceived in November. That means it's due now ish. Yes. Yeah. And okay, look, did you get excited for this news? I literally was like, I saw it. It was all over social media. And I was like, we're going to have to talk about the tomorrow. We're going to have to talk about this. We got to talk about it. I knew it. I knew in popular opinion. Here's what I think, because I know immediately my brain went to like, what is she doing? It probably is the same opinion I have. What if, what if, and I don't know, because I don't know her business, and I don't know, this is entertainment. What if there is an understanding that they have? And she really doesn't care, but society makes her care, so she feels like, honestly, he could do whatever he wants. We have an understanding we're cool, but I have to cater to what you think I should be doing in response to his cheating or whatever. What if they have? I know a lot of people at entertainment who have. I don't know, I don't know, anything about the situation, but what if? I know a lot of people, not in entertainment. But I don't think it's that. I think when you get to how old is Chloe Kardashian now, she's got to be almost 40. Almost 40 years old. Ish there? I think that she has always talked about wanting a sibling for true. I think that she has always wanted that big family feel. And for me, I think a lot of women look at a man and they say, you know, I don't really want to have a baby with you, but you know, time is ticking. And you might be my best possible option at this point. We made a good first one. I made a good first one. I also know that there were embryos already fertilized and frozen. So going back through the process with somebody else, that's maybe a question mark, is a lot. But going through the process with somebody who seemingly seems like a good father and somebody you already have a routine with, I think men do it women all the time. And now women are turning the table. It's like, I want another baby, so I'm gonna use you for that. However, okay. This is because you know Khloé Kardashian are two of the same people. We like to look at the bigger picture and the blessing out of everything. However, I'm still a shady bitch. Okay. This man letting this woman conceive that baby under false pretenses. Yeah. With him knowing full damning well that that paternity suit was gonna come out because you've been talking to this person through lawyers for months. And not having the gall to say, hey, before we do this, I want to pre warn you about something else. I don't think it would have changed her mind. I think that she wanted a baby and she was gonna have a baby with him. But it would have made her not stress out about that a monthly. And have to deal with it. Is it possible though that Jay's kind of like, is it possible that both of you are right, that maybe he did kind of potentially tell her and so her anger might have been a little bit performative because we knew the world might end out of accepted it. "From outside the big brother house with Brent, I'm Julie Chen moonves. Goodnight. And I remember when she did that 'cause it was the first time she ever signed off as Julie Chen, moonves, and she was like showing that she was standing by her man after he resigned over sexual alley, harassment allegations. Right. I remember this moment. It was really big because and he denied the allegations right now. Yes, he has denied the allegations. You know, first of all, everybody knew that they were together. So. I think everybody in this business. I think maybe the larger one, but the larger one might not even know who let's move. But they weren't signing her checks. It was the people in this business who knew exactly who she was. Well, he was very, very powerful. This is my movie story. When I did star search, he hand picked 12 comics. I was one of the 12. I was the only female handpicked. And when we did star search back in 2002, he actually I lost. And I was under a CBS contract for one year. But he let me out the contract so that I could continue my career. So that's one good story, by the way. That I have to say about him and I say thank you because that helps start my career. So let me ask you this. If you were Julie Chan, and all of this was going down, would you have done the same thing? That's your husband? I mean, if you think he's innocent, yeah, you do what you need to do. I also thought it was, I agree with you. I also think it was smart for her because no one ever wrote a piece or a headline about what she was thinking. Is she going to stand by her man? What's her next move? That message was so clear. I'm here. That no one said a thing. And you see big brother is still here to just say. And so is she? She came out and was like, she dropped a real hard line and was like, I'm with him. And I was happy that it actually because I think sometimes with these allegations, the woman gets punished as well as the man. And I think what this has shown is that you can still, you know, you can be independent of whatever your husband's doing, but you show that I know it sounds crazy what I'm trying to say. You search solidarity. Yeah. Right, right, right, right, right. Right. But the problem becomes when and I think what Julie Chen did again, which was smart was she made her message clear. It's when it's wishy washy or it's not like vague or it's like, well, you know, I'm trying to figure it out. Please give us our privacy. And it's like, uh uh, honey, you've been shoving that relationship in our face for ten years. Yeah. People want to know what you think. Yeah. And I think she just let people know, and it was no gray area. You know what I mean? And I think that may also be dependent, obviously, on conversations between them. I mean, we don't know what happened with, you know what I mean? It could have been she had known about this for 6 months that it was going to come out, that this was happening, that they had talked, that there was plans in place. I don't know their conversations, but I think sometimes women get sort of like black, they're like, oh my gosh. I don't even know what's happening right now. Let me, you know what I mean? But I feel like they had a unified front. I think if you work, if you worked in the CBS office, I'm pretty sure you have heard whispers of, you know, things. "I have to deal with. All the time. Well, you know, I was at the very beginning of the view. Yeah. So, I mean, we all liked each other in the beginning, you know? I'm only kidding. We all like to talk through my whole time there. I never. I never experienced that. I don't know how you put up with it. I had a great time on the view, because we were, we were on the ground floor, building that thing up, and it was an amazing experience. And you know what? You have so much confidence. That's what we love about you. You recently returned to the view to celebrate the show's 25th anniversary. What was it like going back? Like the WWE people there are so lovely. They greet you as if you have never left, which is really nice. But you also know, you know, sometimes there's a truth to that statement. You really can't go home again. I had my experience that was wonderful. It had its time and place in my life, and I'm glad that I'm in another chapter. Yeah. Right. Meredith, what brand of CBD are you using? Because you are so damn calm, even when people say like, you know, you will have an interview and people will be like, I did the craziest things and he'd be like, tell me about it. Yeah. How are you? I actually mainlined it. Going into me right now. That's so funny that you said that because I got some gummies because for anxiety during this period and sleep. No, you know, that wasn't the right job for me at that time in my life and her husband has said repeatedly publicly that he was so glad I turned it down because that's how he met Julie. So it worked out for everybody, I guess. But no, you know, it's really weird. I always follow my gut and my instincts and a lot of people have questioned why would you do that? I know when I was going to take over millionaire, the syndicated version and friends who said, why would you want to do a game show and my editor was, why wouldn't I want to do it? You know, it's one more thing I'd like to accomplish. It's fun. I like to say I hand out money, like with 25 words or less, I do no harm. I bring a smile to people's faces. Brighten up their day just a little bit. Hopefully. So, you know, that's kind of that's how I've named my decisions in life that just things that I think might be interesting. Four legacy when that came, out and they felt like that was such a part of the DNA of the series that they really can't lose that conceit right so I think.
