"Really cool. You guys are gonna dig it yes It's a podcast called the real me. A new production from pantheon premiering tuesday october fifth follows the emotionally powerful stories of young songwriters and performers with cancer who found hope healing and connection through music and Present about teen cancer america. It's a national nonprofit. Founded by roger daltry townsend of the who the real highlights the moving experience a cancer patients and. Tci's play it back program which matches them with music professionals to write perform record fully produced studio versions of their original songs. So it's An rod. I think roger daltry is going to be doing the Like the voice over for this. Yeah that's really awesome. And i really like that a lot because it's such an amazing thing. They're doing the concept of it is awesome. You know because you got these kids that had cancer there musicians and it's a struggle musician for one and then two. You're going through something like that. What amazing stories must come from those experiences and with pantheon being involved in it. That makes it awesome. The fact that the who's helping out with it. I mean it's this is a good thing man. I really like it a lot. And i'm proud of everybody that's involved in it. Yeah and christian. And peter from pantheon have been working on this for a long time so i It's one of those things where they were talk. They would talk about it behind the scenes but we couldn't say anything so I'm excited for them. I know they were ready to burst before it finally came out today about the happening and a as a big deal. And it's a great thing. They're doing here for this with always good when it's got us a good story behind it so very excited for that And side note I was listening to We've come for you all by anthrax today and Did you know that. Roger daltry sings backing vocals on taking the music back on that album. I did not does wonder how that worked out. I believe scott. Ian was having dinner with him. I'm not sure how that got set up. But it was when they were making the record and he was like you wanna come back up and he wasn't even expecting to get a yes and roger dodger. He's like yeah. why not sure. I've always wanted to play on an anthrax album. Yeah so roger. Daltry appears on that album on that song. I love that song that's cool. I didn't know that. Yeah but Yeah good on pantheon for doing that. It's really cool. Guys man are right now. I'm i'm interested in this next in your reaction to this next story. Because i know you're super crazy about all the guests stuff on ozzy's last record of having guests on the record. It was a matter of who the guests were for me. Well i saw this headline today. Ozzy osbourne's new album is gonna featured guest appearances by jeff beck eric clapton tony. Ionian zack. wild see now. That is good news. i like that. Those are the kind of collaborations. I wanna see. Don't get your elton john in my ozzy. Osbourne tony. I me and ozzy hell. Yes i want to hear. That zack wild. Absolutely what are they gonna do with. Eric clapton man. Some kinda awesome bluesy kind of thing. I'm looking forward to hear the same jeff. Pacman that guy is a legend. I love to hear what these guys come. Up with the The jeff beck. When i think is going to be cool because of he does so many off the wall solos that if he does some really wacky solos on on song. I think it'll be cool but clapton's a square peg in the round hole here so i'm not sure how that's gonna work out I've been you know how you know how. I'm a rabid cd hunter right and i'm always on the hunt for. Cd's we'll hear recently. I've been coming across a lot of eric. Clapton cds at really affordable prices. So i keep finding these cds so it's like you know what for a buck i'll give it a try and i take it home. I listen to it. And every eric clapton's has at least two good songs on it. But most eric clapton's albums only have two good songs is what i'm realizing a lot of blues covers. Oh yeah he loves to do cover songs. you know. it's weird. Like when i was younger like my dad was a big clapped. Fan loved him. specially cream and derek and the dominos. Layla was like one of his favorite song. And i remember i used. I made him real proud. When i learned how to play the rift to leyla he would. He would like to play layla because he was you know he loved that song but Yeah i so. I really got into when i was a kid. Mostly because my dad's influence But i love the cream stuff. I love derek and the dominos but then you get into the solo stuff with from the eighties. And at the time i i liked it was actually like journeymen. And you know the song pretending. And even the 'em to even mtv unplug at the time was really cool to hear. Those songs stripped down because that was kind of a new art form at the art form as far as mainstream media goes because obviously people played acoustic but here hearing him stripped down. leyla You know in some of those songs that were souped up on. The original albums was cool. And i was very into him at the time because i Yeah i remember one christmas. I got eric clapton. Mtv unplug in revenge for christmas together. I remember that. Listen to both those. Cd's on repeat forever. But it's weird. I never really go back to his music much anymore. but who knows. But i mean. I don't know i'm at ozzie. Said he does do a solo on the record. So i know it'd be interesting to hear what he does It's not that out of out of whack. I'm sure they've known each other for a long time. Is he doing some kind of cool rockdale blue song and i'm excited to hear that zack's coming back to do some stuff like that a lot. So i guess no andrew what's going to produce again but i guess he's not going to do the guitar part so that could be interesting. Should be cool man. I think it's gonna be better than the last one. Even though aspen did grow on overtime. I'll even though people skewered before i liked it because uh most malone so much i love that one song All right all right story. We'll talk about this one for a while because there's a lot of split opinions on this Did you see kiss announced the destroyer box set. That's coming out. I saw julian gil posted something about that. And i heard i seen it but i don't know nothing about it all right so there's different you know and to be fair to kiss here. There's different versions of this. It's the forty fifth anniversary addition of of the album. So you can get for twenty bucks. You can get the deluxe edition. That's two cds and can get what is it is it. is it like the original version. And then the bob version. That came out a couple years ago or is it something special. It's special so..

"At 10 40. You're going to the Texas Standard. I'm David Brown. Texas officials have long known they weren't charging businesses enough unemployment insurance tax to ride out a deep job killing recession like the one last year. Federal government bailed it out last June, paid some portion for 10 of the last 18 months. Texas Public Radio's Paul Flab reports the bill on nearly $7 billion in loans. Is now coming due. Texas will make the first payment of as much as $12.6 million at the end of the month to service the debt on its massive loan from the U. S. Treasury, According to the Texas Workforce Commission. It will pay down some of that to lower its interest payment. And in the process may actually need to take another loan out to pay unemployment claims this month. Texas is not alone and underfunding its unemployment trust fund. It was one of 22 states, the federal government had to bail out during last year's economic crisis. Texas ranked 50th lowest out of 53 states and jurisdictions in terms of funding for unemployment, according to a Department of Labor study last year, sitting far below Puerto Rico and just above New York and California, this is red and blue. Both California Texas, New York They under fund William Glasgow works at the Volcker Alliance, a nonprofit focused on government fiscal practices, so they'll keep money in there for a normal a normal type recession because there's no stigma And there's really no penalty involved in running a very lean operation. Texas leaders have been ardent believers that keeping taxes low and keeping those dollars and business leaders hands is the best way to spur the economy. But Wayne Roman and economists and senior researcher for the Urban Institute says Isn't any proof of that. That assertion has never really been tested by the economics profession to know if it if it's an argument that holds water or not, But the bill for underfunding, unemployment will cause the state and interest payments and fees and in time because now they have to figure out how to pay it back. And if the past two recessions are any indicator, the state will need to sell government backed bonds to do it. So in the end, the weight of that $7 billion loan will likely be born by higher taxes on the businesses it was hoping to spur during a recession. Paul Flab in San Antonio. Another grim milestone in Texas is latest Covid surge Hospitalizations of Children with the illness recently hit an all time high. Once seemingly spared from the worst effects of Covid 19, the spreading Delta variant appears to be landing more Children in the hospital, though it's still unclear if it's actually more dangerous for kids. Julian Gil has been reporting on this for the Houston Chronicle. He's a medical reporter there. Julian Welcome to the Texas Standard. Thanks for having me David. You reported this weekend. We saw the highest today period in terms of pediatric covid hospitalizations. What are the numbers looking like? Well. On Saturday, we saw peak of 345 pediatric hospitalizations followed up with the second highest day so far. 307 on Sunday. Um this is the highest two day stretch during the pandemic. I believe before this, um you know, the next highest number was 300, too. But these are the highest numbers to date. Young people more susceptible or vulnerable to the delta variant of covid, or what are what are experts saying Well, the experts we spoke with essentially pointed to the Delta variants increase transmissibility school reopenings pandemic fatigue. All these are factors in the rise of hospitalizations. Obviously, schools reopen, more kids will interact with each other. But again, the level of transmissibility with this particular variant is playing a major factor as well. Could you put some of this in context for us when it comes to say, Texas and the rest of the nation? What we're seeing in Texas? Is it? Are we seeing some similar reports from other states or no? So I do know that there are rising pediatric hospitalizations across the nation. Um, the CDC came out with a study. Um, that measured march to August 14th of this year, and it found that essentially, rates are rising in that time period. Most of all, among Children who are 0 to 4 years old and teenagers, particularly unvaccinated teenagers. No, I know that there is also a respiratory virus that has been going around. It's been around for a long time. Did experts say anything about complications due to that, Uh, separate respiratory virus, especially in Texas in large parts of the South. So for this story, we didn't specifically report on RSV. That has been an issue, particularly at Texas Children's Hospital here in Houston and at other pediatric hospitals throughout the nation, but that that is not something that we focused on. Although, um, you know, like I said it has been contributing to a lot of the strain on pediatric hospitals in Texas. You spoke with the pediatrician in chief over at Texas Children's Hospital in Houston. What did he have to say about the situation at his hospital? Well, Texas Children's They're saying about 50 Covid patients, you know, on a given day in the hospital census, um, which is a high number for them. They're seeing positivity rate of 15%. Whereas in July I guess before the delta variant started to take hold, it was about 3%. So they're operating at a very high plateau. Three campuses have implemented mobile emergency and it's to expand outpatient capacity to see more kids and they are seeing an increase similar to what the CDC reported in their recent study in unvaccinated teenagers. Is there a correlation or can a correlation be made between vaccination rates and what we're seeing with kids? I know that, uh, a lot of Um, I think the figure that I've heard something like 48% of all Texans now have been vaccinated. But as we all know, if you're under 12, the vaccine is not approve for administering yet. That's still the case, right? Right. That is still the case. Yeah, I mean, that's part of the reason why A lot of experts are pushing masks in schools because obviously we have a large portion who cannot yet get the vaccine, And there's also a risk of Children bringing the virus home to their families. There are multiple facets to this issue, and I think a lot of experts and epidemiologists are really trying to urge on the mask issue. Are. We have also been hearing about school closures and a certain school districts in Texas thinking about next steps. Um, is there a way that you I mean, are we Are we looking at a pediatric health crisis right now in Texas as it reached that level, I don't want to create any sense of of of of greater panic or alarm the necessary But what are you hearing from from health officials. Well, I don't want to use the word crisis myself. I nobody. I spoke with use that that term. Um I do know that you know, in Houston in particular. We have a very large pediatric infrastructure here, but I will say that as my colleagues Alejandro Serrano and Hannah Dellinger reported last week is there are multiple Houston area school districts that have reported more covid cases in the first few weeks of school. Then all Last year. You know multiple districts throughout taxes, not just in our area have temporarily stopped in person learning because of student infections, absences, staffing shortages, so schools are, you know, essentially like I said, stopping because of this, and as outbreaks continue, um, that could continue as well. Julian Gil is medical reporter for the Houston Chronicle linked.

"Interesting? It's been in the news. They fired all those health care worker. That's why that was the one. Right. Well, technically, this was Memorial Hermann Sugarland. Okay. Same hospital network. The same network guy goes in there. Vietnam War vet 74 years old Pete Lopez, backbone of his family. Guy had covid symptoms. The guy had a prescription for Iver Mactan. They wouldn't feel it wouldn't fill it. Yep. I mentioned that yesterday. I didn't give you all these details. But I told you I knew about a guy who had a doctor's prescription for ever make them and the pharmacy, which happened to be the pharmacy in that hospital refused him and now he's dead. He died. That's just so sad. And the hospital refused to administer his prescription for ivermectin. They say in the first line of the article here in the Houston Chronicle, they tell you I ivermectin is not proven to treat the virus. Then why are doctors prescribing it? Huh? What? Hang on a second. Who wrote this article? Julian Gil, staff writer Julian, Where did you go to Medical school at Do you know more about that drug than the doctors that are prescribing it? Or you just some jackass who runs a news blog at Houston Chronicle Kiss my ass so angry. Do we have to get before Somebody does something about these people and these lives? And these? These? All of them? The guy is dying. He has a doctor that drug And you're telling him he can't have that drug. Why? What you What do you care if he's going to die anyway? Just give him the drug. Okay? You don't think it's effective? He's dying. Give him the drug does as I've ever met in proven to make covid worse. No, there's nobody say, afraid it might kill you. And then he died. Kiss my ass Pucker up. And yeah, this who you matter at the people that refuse the the hospital or the Houston Chronicle person that wrote the article. The whole thing, all of them. The whole thing sickens me. These people are getting oodles and oodles and oodles of dollars. From the vaccination maker from the government from a corrupt, broken system that puts politics before science and somebody just died. Not just somebody. This guy Pete Lopez is a is a combat veteran of the Vietnam War. I think this man has risked life and limb enough. He can decide. What drug he wants to take when he's sick. Ain't that right? You're going to tell him he can't. Who are you? Well, when you said lib tarted earlier, you just emphasized the fact that I've been making for years that liberals are Mentally irregular. It's a mental disease being a liberal thinking the way they think, and those liberals, especially the ones out in California, have demonstrated that they would rather let their own family members die. Than ever give Trump any credit for anything like life saving drugs, for example, that he has maybe offhandedly commented about what was the first one was the I Can't remember the names of them. They got the Ivor Mac, then hydrogen cars, hydroxy thing, and Trump came out and said, You know, it might be worth looking at this. No. The minute he said that These lunatics on the left. Said. Well, we can't support that we can't do and they could have a kid or a grandparent dying. And they would rather let them die. Than to go out and say, Well, you know, maybe Trump was right. Maybe Trump was right about Ivor. Make him Maybe he's right about hydrogen. Give it a shot. No. That's how mentally ill these people are in that sick. That is sick. 866 I love W J markets in Texas. Go ahead, Mark. Why did you call Um The reason I'm calling is I had a neighbor friend of mine just a few days ago. Uh, actually, it was Sunday night had a heart attack, and it took forever for an ambulance to get there. But they finally took him in, uh, into the hospital. And they kept telling him that well, you have covid. So they gave him a covid test and it came up negative. All right. That's day. One. Uh, he's been in in the emergency room for three days before he was able to see his cardiologist and they gave they gave him street. Covid tests and each one came up negative and they're telling him that it's a false positive. Okay. It wasn't popular is a false negative. Are false. Yeah, it's a false negative, All right, And so anyhow, anyhow, he finally gets this cardiologist in there. This morning. Three days He's in in the emergency room, gets his cardiologist in there, and he tells us cardiologist, he says, I don't know what the hell kind of game you're playing, but you want to get the money. Like saying that I have covid. And you're hoping that I'll die. And And and finally, you know, he finally got his treatment and they removed the covid sign from his door. Warm archive Some I can't get over that. Mark. I have a lot of questions. Why? Why were they telling him? He had covid? Did he lose his sense of taste and smell? Was there another element to this? No. They said that he had fluid on his lungs. Okay, but he had a heart. You know? Why was the cardiologists? Why was the cardiologist not available for three days because he was busy or because they wouldn't let him see the patient. I believe it's they wouldn't let him see the patient because probably told him he didn't need a cardiologist because the cardiologist don't treat covid. Mark. I'm glad you called us. See, this is the main. This is another example. What I'm talking about. It's like what? We just told you about the 74 year old Vietnam War vet who died at Memorial Hermann Sugarland. The pandemic, the politics have infected themselves. Into the pandemic so deeply that were now willing to deny people the actual health care that they need in an effort to help check off some box to get more covid funding. Exactly.

"Over. Twenty twenty has been the most awful year ever. you know. i just can't wait for twenty twenty one and now we're finally here but before we take that bold step into the future. We've gotta take one step backwards one more time. We're dipping back in one last time before we move on to twenty twenty because despite all the bullshit that we went through this year there actually was some really really damn good albums that came out. Yeah and i posted on facebook the other day that you know like the i. I came up with around eighty albums. That were You know that. I considered you know attention worthy to look into and then i broke that down to thirty five saul you know thirty five albums that i really liked and then narrowed it down to the top fifteen and as i know you did as well. There was a ton of great stuff released last year. I don't even feel like. I've even scratched the surface. I mean 'cause if you came up with that kind of list my list was probably half of that and then whittled it down but as always this time of year we do this episode at the end of the year every year where we look back and pick out our favorite albums that came out that year. And you know it's it's kinda cool because it's an adventure for me. Because not only. Do i got the handful of ones that i know. I love the ones that i went out and bought on the day they came out you know and the ones that i was so happy with but also it's a chance for discovery too because i actually go back and i know you do the same thing go back through and say what did we miss. You know what's out there that we didn't catch this year. I don't want nothing to slip. Pass me and actually got a few debut albums from new bands that i'd never even heard of before that we're gonna talk about here today. We got all kinds of good stuff for you. Milk cartons have you. That's cool awesome. Names come up and they come and go all friends longtime friends new friends. we appreciate. Y'all thanks to everybody. That sports the decibel geek podcasts. We've each got fifteen albums man. we'd better get to it. Yeah there's a lot to go through here so i yeah. Why don't you go ahead and start us out all right so My number fifteen or a record of twenty twenty is tyler bryant and the shakedowns pressure. Know much about this banner. What i do know is that. I've heard good things about him. People that are in our desperately geek. Community have been talking about this band I went ahead and check them out earlier in the year and thought they were pretty good Do to hell of a guitar player. I really don't know a lot about them. Well they Started out in. Two thousand nine tyler. Put the band together at the age of sixteen. So he's kind of like a teenage virtuoso. Formed here nashville. i'll cool. I do not know that yup and the lineup currently consists of tyler bryant lead guitar and vocals and needed do based on the new. So there between bass players graham whitford and caleb crosby and graham whitford sounds familiar yes. He is the son of brad. Whitford era okay. Right on so a lot of talent in this band They recorded this record in tyler basement during the lockdown and he was gonna do it as He was gonna do a song and then that turned into an ep. Way back for ordering a couple of t-shirts i listen every week and loved the show however the most recent episode discussing rhythm sections had me yelling at my phone. We knew that would have oil. Yeah we predicted this entwistle and moon at number seventeen are you guys know both redefined their instruments and were phenomenal musicians for me. They are easily atop three choice anyway. Happy holidays and keep the great content coming and that comes to us from adam. It's an awesome apple. Podcasts review from right here in the goodell. Usa thanks for the review. Nice words and your your hatred of of our pick is kind of what we're banking on. We wanted people to get upset by some of these books and it seemed to work. But yeah i mean it's always so subjective you know it It was a fun one to do. And you know. And i could go back and probably do my list completely different if we did it now totally changes. In retrospect i definitely would change a few things the way i did it. But in like i said we had twenty picks right off the top and then we went to forty on the christner show for the decibel geek. Vip's overrun patriot. And it gets even funnier and part too because you know we get cut loose a little bit more. But yeah i think i would probably go back and i would agree with adam and think that into whistle and moon should definitely been way higher than seventeen is. It does seem kind of outrageous when you look at it like that or if you're not a patriots. Vip patriots dot com. Look for because you'll want to hear the other half of the picks we had an animal agree with you because during that half of the show. I think i yelled at aaron a couple of times. Yeah the savior fury and your rage for the chris and aaron. Show for part two of that blood money which i did. Not induct bobby. Dall and rikki rockett. Is you trying to tell everybody. I did awesome so last week. A lot of fun. Glad we got to do that. Hey before we move on to our favorite other people. I've got one more review here. You want it's christmas right. We deserve it here. And it's like having a music discussion over beer in a local bar. Nothing pretentious an entirely rock and roll. Keep on keeping on. We got that one just a couple of days ago. So that's one of the first people join. I wanna face looks like who else loves seventies freeze and you were on it right away so i get a feeling this. This era of the band is very near and dear to your heart. This is my preferred era of the band. And i saw you post Like boom. I'm putting my name down. He gets picked. I'm this. I'm just looking forward to an excuse to talk about you. Priest awesome heck. Yeah this is my favorite of priests as well. It wasn't the era that i was introduced to or came up with but nowadays looking back man. These first five priests albums are hard to beat to where gummy three for three. Because i the there at this point in time there. That's the ear i go to the most. Yeah for sure. I'm looking at this thinking. Maybe we should just call this one. the best. And the more best of judas priest in the seventies because there's really not a lot of worst that we're gonna come across today. Yeah there's there's no time for change on this Discography like we had with motley crue julian. So were you into them. Back in the in the seventies or did you come to them later like we did. I came to them later. And oddly you know. Living in england get into them in england. It was in america. After i moved there That i discover the eyes of the lake house of on a friend upstate new york and his brother. His brother was playing A song and it stuck with me for years. And i didn't know who it was and i kept trying to find out who the song was kept it resonated in my head for five years. Finally eighty-five i got into the band with the turbo and went back and bought the backlog. Then i discovered that song that he'd been playing in nineteen eighty at the.
