From Brady To Newton: Julian Edelman Details Patriots’ Change At Quarterback in Boston
"Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman spoke with the media today and off the bat. He was asked about the departure of long time teammate Tom Brady. Obviously way played ball together. I love in a death, but you know, the train keeps moving. Also what? It stood out to him about new quarterback Cam Newton got a great energy about himself. I was really impressed with his work ethic. And his mindset, you know, just like I've been impressed with with systems and lawyers, no throne with those guys as well. Everyone's competing at all positions in a competition makes us all
Fresh update on "julian edelman" discussed on Sidelined with Doc Flynn
"We do have a couple of injuries situations here with the team We do know that David Andrews was played on I r because he had that fractured as a center snapping the ball as hard Sue was he wasn't able to tough it out. They sent him out. There are a couple of days. See if you could snap the left hand wasn't worth it so he's out. So seeing as he's going to need that thumb to play any, he's not going to be one of those guys who can return with that kind of little. You know many cast and just knock it around if some linemen do. He's GonNa have to be well enough to have that thing. Be Able to hold the football and snap the ball effectively. What do you think we could see him back again. Yeah. I'm so bummed for him. You know especially after last year and he really is just the heart and soul of that offensive line so tough to see. When he showed up in practice early last week with the cast just by the looks of it I immediately knew he probably had surgery that issue will be. What kind of fracture he had. There's a few fractures of the bone near that joint near the knuckle joint that they've been talking about. Some of them are stable. Some of them are very unstable, and so it's a more stable fracture that's not gonNA affect the joint itself and he could probably come back sooner and maybe even be able to snap with that hand. You know once it's healing. But if it's more affecting the joint and it's something they worry about stability. And like you said, long-term him being able to like hold a football or like button a button or hold like a glass milk. Then we start to talk about things like maybe him going back in a cast at around four weeks and still having snapped with the other hand. It's going to depend exactly on the fracture pattern. Yeah. Well, the by okay. They moved Joe Tony there got some work. Surprise they look good says one wonders why didn't do that while they had they had some backups last year but yeah, they did the offensive line was good his absence maybe not as big a need to rush him back much earlier than necessary. Certainly, if someone else goes down, depth is going to become an issue there the other person we are definitely concerned with and we talked about this in last week's podcast is Julian Edelman. Granted he had a monster game in week two but he was every time he caught the ball he got up he looked hobbled. Definitely has a tough time getting in and out of stuff and. He looks off. Really like he's bothered by by that, knee. Show again, what are you seeing here when you're watching him play? Yeah I mean we're seeing a guy who's tough I mean no one's GonNa Question Julian elements toughness. So the fact that he's out there I think speaks for itself but you're right he's just not as quick. You can see even just the way that they're using him that they're not having him run through traffic quite as much I mean he that need the left knee just doesn't seem like it can take the same amount of abuse that. It used to take So it's something to keep an eye on I. Keep Hoping maybe they can limit his use a little bit in an help attorney corner, but there are degenerative injuries especially in the knee that just can't get better through of course of a season even with something like a bi week or a couple of weeks breast moving the way our way down the body from the thumb to the knee to the ankle and we did have some you know a person who clearly wasn't right..
Patriots sign QB Cam Newton to replace Tom Brady
"Tonight I think it's exciting to see what Newton can do a healthy Newton with Josh McDaniels and bill ballot check in this offense sieve juggernauts if you well and remember McDaniels they run a very innovative offense that Matt Werner ram mentioned it last hour in twenty ten they draft Gronk Aaron Hernandez they go to that too tight and sat before everybody else they have in the NFL did then it's copy cats city they hurried up shortly thereafter before chip Kelly was even hired by the eagles and now that's commonplace and this new read option type offense the Newton is a master of the patriots haven't done it given Tom Brady's obvious limitations in that category so this picture offense last year was a boring offense to watch it was a slog it was a struggle it wasn't exciting it was the first time where if you're a patriots fan you looked wistfully at the other teams and said why why can't we have Josh Allen yeah there is a ton of pics but always teases interesting to watch why why can't we have Lamar Jackson Pat Mahomes Ryan Tannehill why why can't we have to Shawn Watson why can't we have a quarterback who can move a little bit who can do more than the ball on the territory a five yard screen pass to a double covered Julian Edelman why well healthy cam Newton gives the patriots a more dynamic offensive attack I mean let's face it this was not a very good offense with Tom Brady especially in the second half of last season I think that there is that thirsty to try something new in belt check the is a really smart guy and smart people want new challenges and I think him new night I think introducing that element of offense which is going to come anyway because Jarrett Stidham is more mobile too so either way the patriots were gonna introduce more of that read option modern type NFL offense but and I think that excite spell check and probably excites McDaniels and in terms of where they're going as a running a running based offense Newton obviously is far more dynamic in that category the Brady too and if Sony Michelle returns to form a franchise and left guard this offseason me not to the patriots about their starting center David Andrews back healthy and they have three guys who can now play full back including two players who they drafted this year that's clearly the direction the patriots are moving find a really good and versatile defense and I Bella check as one league does this as the week goes this way Belichick is going that way and that you see that the roster construction of this team and I can even help
Tom vs. Team: Why Brady is Moving On
"Well amidst everything happening in the world. Right now Tom Brady singlehandedly. Wrestle control of the new cycle and in the process basically gave us in sports media a miniature stimulus package by announcing that. He's leaving the New England patriots. Seth you have covered Brady forever. You've been to his house. You've covered this team for a while. What was your initial reaction to today's news? I think it's been in the works for a long time. I think it's been in the works since training camp and I think that people just didn't want to believe it New England fans didn't want to believe it some media members didn't believe it. Even people close to Tom. Brady didn't want to believe it. Even the people who did believe it in some ways didn't WanNa believe it and yet here we are I should note here that all season long says McCain has been texting me. I think this happened. I think this is going to happen. And I've written back really come on really stuff so you were right and here. We are and as you mentioned not. Everything's been roses in New England for quite a while now and we'll get to that but until I think this season. It didn't seem realistic to a lot of people that he would actually leave. So let's go back to the beginning of the year. When did that start change? Well I think that he almost left training camp because he was so frustrated about the contract negotiations that were going on with the Patriots for years. Now he is wanted a commitment and he has said with every ounce of sincerity that he wants to play until he's forty five years old and I think there's a part of him that felt like he had earned that commitment from the New England patriots but in lieu of that. He just wanted clarity. If you don't want me here fine I'll move on but you have to let me know and in the fall of eighteen. He signed what was termed at the time. As a two year extension was not an extension it was essentially five million dollars in bonuses that he never hit and then this year he entered the year as fifteen million dollar quarterback on the books which is astounding in August. He and his camp were in negotiations with the Patriots again. They were not interested in committing beyond a year to him and again reportedly he almost left training camp because he was so frustrated about it but when he finally did commit to playing and sign the deal he said all along that he was just an employee there. I show up and do my job. I'm an employee like everyone else. I'M GONNA show this week to do the best. I can do a quarterback when he said I'm just an employee here that was a little bit different and everybody always knew that even though Tom Brady could say he was a player just a player. Everyone knew that he was Tom Brady. Everyone knew that he could talk to. Robert Kraft whenever he wanted to. Everybody knew he go to Robert. Kraft's house whenever he wanted to so. It was always a little ridiculous that he would say that. I find your point about him saying. I'm just an employ really interesting because everybody knows that bill belichick is fairly ruthless. Really when it comes to you know how he manages personnel in his job is GM. He will move on from a star a legend right away but it was always the assumption. Tom Brady was above that he was not just an employee. He wasn't just any player to ballot. Check do you think that changed at some point recently or do you think that's always been the case? I think it's always been the case but I think what changed was Tom's perspective. I think the assumption was that it was Bella. Check who would be willing to move on from Brady and cut or trade him. Even though we all knew that Robert Kraft was never gonNa let him cut or trade. Tom Brady unless things got so bad that he had no choice to do it. I think there was always the presumption that Tom Brady wanted to retire a Patriot and again the past couple of years. There's been a lot of turmoil in the building. Twenty years is a long time to spend working so closely with a ruthlessly driven coach like bill. Belichick there's one assistant who told me working one year with bill. We'll take a year off your life and Tom's been in that system for a long time and he's tired he wants to do something new. I think that's were Brady. Decided to take control of his story and changed things Brady starts talking about himself as an employee and I think this sense of unease sets in did that persist throughout the twenty nine thousand nine season. He's a professional bill. Belichick said professional once. They're they're they're going to do everything they can to win every week but the season for the Patriots was weird season. It was a weird season because their offense didn't pull its weight for the entire year and that's very rare especially the last half of Brady's career with the patriots as they become they become so much of a pass. Heavy offense dominated team you know. Obviously they had Antonio Brown pretty was very excited to play with him. They light up the dolphins with Brown in the lineup. Antonio Brown had been accused of sexual assault then. A sports illustrated article comes out detailing. All kinds of new allegations and Robert Kraft who says he doesn't involve himself in personnel and football decisions makes a decision organizationally that they're gonNA move on from him. Brady was very upset about that and I think bill belichick was upset about it too. They wanted to see what the offense could do with Brown and so I think that's one of those sort of hidden moments from the season that I think ends up becoming a bigger deal than it was because after that the New England Patriots is here without Rob Gronkowski. Just couldn't get a receiver as open as they were accustomed to in the past. And so the offense just didn't play very well into remember at one point in the season. It looks like the Patriots were. They were talking about going undefeated again and then they lose to Miami in the last game of the season at home and then they come out against the titans in the in the wildcard round of the playoffs. The Patriots were beaten up for most of the game and yet late in the game. The Patriots got the ball back and it just looked like they were going to recapture the magic. The magic that were so accustomed to seeing from Tom Brady. He hit a pass for about twenty yards. Got a little bit of breathing room and then the drive just stalled and on second down Brady threw outside of Julian Edelman white behind Brady Bunch. Before it was an out route join Dorset Britain dropped back. It was a route two oldest football. It's a route that these guys have run so many times over the years short set walks in on the side at the forty five yard line turning to run an element dropped the ball and even though that's not when the game ended it felt like the game ended right there. You could feel the air. Go Out of the stadium. You could feel the wind. Go out the New England patriots sideline it just felt that after twenty years after all those super bowls after winning and losing some of the greatest games in NFL history. This run was over. That's the way it felt to me. Tennessee titans have come into foxborough and defeated. Tom Brady and the pats twenty to thirteen in his wildcard. Rob You were there. What was brady like in the aftermath? I've seen Tom Brady. After a lot of losses I've seen him after a lot of season ending losses. He looks physically ill. After losing a game that ends their season but against the titans after losing game ended their season this year. He seemed different. Usually Tom waits a long time. The game to come to the podium and granted the game ended late but he came out of the locker room like a hurricane and he got to the podium and was in no rush to leave. He sat he chatted. There's nobody who had a better career I would say to me. I just being with them so I'm very blessed and I don't know what the future looks like so I'm not going to predict it so I wish you'd want tonight and We should done a lot of things better over the course season but we just tend to get the job done. It was just a different vibe that he put out there that I've ever seen before and when he left and he walked out. He just had a vibe that he was over it he was done.

"julian edelman" Discussed on Skip and Shannon: Undisputed
"He can find that. And it'd be wishing CONC- being reported that Juliet Omon is now dealing with a tendon issue in his left knee in addition to other minor injuries after the Patriots win win over the bengals settlements said quote. Everyone has some sort of injury but would not confirm what it was he's dealing with. Meanwhile it was rookie receiver and Aqeel. Harry finally stepped up and found the end zone on Sunday drawing praise from both Brady and Bella check so Shannon. How much trouble are the Patriots in at receiver? Well they'll be in serious trouble because he's the best receiver. He's the most consistent receiver. He has the best chemistry with Tom. Brady he's the guy that moved the chain that keeps those chains that keeps Tom. Tom Brady on the field. Keep that defense rested so when they come out there when they can put together these long drive because they don't have a flash player that can the Randy Moss or the guy that can take. Thank you over the top like like like that now the roster so if he were to have to miss some time well he's struggling. It's going to be tough. It's going to be tough for them to move the ball. There's only so many times you can throw the ball to the running backs and that's what they had become before the Q.. Hair neely caught two passes. I think Sunday become element and James White. That's that's that's that they throw a twenty targets that those two guys they normally come down with somewhere between thirteen and fifteen of those and then you try to you. Try to get a big play on the defense. This is why skilled coach Belichick is is trying to block punts and playing a Lotta zero coverage trying to create turnovers because he knows that consistently his offense now can't move the ball. They got that one drive skipping they struggled after that to move the ball until the Cincinnati started turning the ball over giving them short fields is. That's the thing look at Tom. Brady in Lebron on you see people. Last year thought. Lebron had dip because his impact of the gain. What did the same? Well you don't have now. You look at Lebron now here they d he he has somebody that can help him back the game well. Maybe if Tom Brady had a viable option yeah other than element has more weapons. Maybe here's play. You wouldn't wouldn't that his players slip but because his plate have little or he doesn't have the level of Dalit around him now. You starting to see what what Tom like. Yeah all Gerrad Green tea anymore. But I ain't this bad. They can't take him the way they used to consistently like last night. Debris Scott protect tacked up all game long. gave him time to say no yes he got blood. He got flushed one time touchdown about but I think he got a call back he did and he's a little more. Nimble Thomas is age so this is Tom. Brady's greatest challenge because no weapons. No real offense of line. They did run the ball some but remember essence inanity. You're going up against the twenty ninth worst run. So what am I supposed to read into. They got one hundred and seventy-five Sony had nine thousand nine hundred eighty nine and then birkhead got loose late. He added fifty three one. Long touchdown run. Can you trust that going forward. Probably not so. I'm going to say this again. This team will. Ironically shockingly go as far as Nikiel Hairy Carey's them and he is a role rookie. Who missed the first half of the year because he's on I r and to me it's going to be Brady's the greatest challenge Josh mcdaniels? Greatest Challenge Belcher greatest challenge. They are talking about because they need to speed up his maturation as you pointed out. They don't what do rookies. They don't like rookies. Trust I I seem as your only hope because he I'm not saying he's Randy Moss but he's got a little little bit of that going on just a little bit. I WANNA show you one play from Sunday. Gave me hope. It's early in the second quarter if we could see Tom's throat Nikiel he'll Harry because they're gonNA have to do this again and again they'll look at this. Okay that's that guy. Guess what that play got nullified by penalty penalty on Julian. Edelman who quietly false started on the opposite side of the formation and nobody even knew the play was dead right but can you see okay. Is that back is that yes get why this might be Brady. His greatest achievement is also probably I think what is easiest because he's not going to have to get get very many points. Kenny get to seventeen okay. 'cause that's that's that's the question okay. BATAK guide number fifteen to help him get there. Yes so they try to do right right. They handed it to him on a little jet sweeps. Why right and he did? Okay ran twice for twenty two yards. He caught two balls for fifteen but he did catch the touchdown right in Belgium gave him high marks because the DB tried to shove him out of bounds which is the correct. Play to me and the kid kept his balance in fought back along the in line and got loose after. Tom Finally did have some time. Rome okay so that was so we saw that. We saw the splash play the against Kansas City. That should have been a touchdown wasn't a touchdown. And we saw the touchdown pass that against Dallas one of the biggest thing that you notice the difference between the Patriots this year and years pass. They can't overcome turnovers because their offense is not nearly explosive enough. And if Tom Turns the ball over and put that defense on short field is hard for them to overcome that I believe the magic number for them especially at home would probably be twenty. Points is going to be tough sledding for someone in their building to get to twenty now now the question is this your do you talk and get the twenty seven thirty one. A WHAT IS GONNA probably take if he has to go on the road if they face a Baltimore did you get the thirty S. I would agree. I am not sure he has the weapons or just the firepower. I don't know if you can get the thirty. We definitely need joy elements. I'm not so sure that I don't know who they played this week. But I might have to sit down awful but you can't sit him down and give Buffalo. Well I don't know I think he is so beata if he was shell he caught two balls for nine yards. He caught one for eleven and one for minus two right. That's it. That's Julian Edelman Super Bowl EP. And they say now he's got a bad knee. Annoys had a bad shoulder and ribs all year so he's on the injury report from multiple tipple injuries. And there's been a lot of conjecture up in Patriot nation. Should they sit in for the last two games and just try to get him remotely healthy the playoffs. I mean you might because you do who get they can get that number two they are. We'll get a buy week in. That would help him. He'll so but he might be to. You played last. Who gave he might be to beat up? Even he eloped from that week off. Well there's still six and a half point favorite over Buffalo. Who's third in defense? I don't know how to I don't know. Mobile is good defense. Air really good playing well right now. Tom Always seems figured out. But at some point you can't do it if you don't have any known mercy. Thanks for listening to the undisputed podcast. I'm Johnny Taft. Join US again at the same time tomorrow morning. Nine thirty eastern. We'll see you then of uh-huh..

Patriots' Tom Brady Says He Feels 'Pretty Good' Despite Dealing with Calf Injury
"Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is feeling the effects of his twentieth NFL season he was limited in practice yesterday and cited his age as a factor you know football is a you know the contact sports so. when Sam a spring chicken anymore so I'm trying to just you know feels great as I can and see a customer Brady was listed as questionable for Sunday with a calf injury but is expected to play as the three no patriots visit the unbeaten Buffalo Bills receiver Julian Edelman and defensive end Michael Bennett were also among the ten players limited for the
The Latest on the NFL Injury Report
"Now we have Dr Brandon bowers. He's a contributor on sportsline. Dr bowers welcome to fantasy football today how you doing John Adams. I'm doing great. I appreciate you having me on the show to chat about some injuries here I know I wish we didn't have to do it but you know the number one pick in fantasy drafts in many any fantasy drafts saquon Barkley he could. What do you think of the time line is. We've seen four to eight weeks high ankle sprain. What are you thinking here for Barclay. Yeah really the time on that. They've given the Ford eight and I saw a four to six before. He has mariah's really right on par with what we typically see. What this type of injury when we have high ankle sprain it's an injury to the Senate as most joint which which is a stable joint. That's right above the ankle and when it's injured it becomes very unstable and becomes problematic so I'd say four to eight weeks is right on course what we typically see clinically and it should be back to being hundred percent afterwards afterwards. He'll probably a little bit limited. There's a chance that this thing will bark at him. The rest of the season I it will really take Jake probably a full offseason for him to get one hundred percent right but he should be pretty close to eighty to ninety percent when he does come back after his rehab after the shutdown time forty eight weeks now you like. I said you're a sportsline contributor. So you write a weekly column for sportsline. I do that comes out every Thursday morning and discuss injuries each week the guys that we're hitting on here today we'll all be included in injury reported discussed return to play timetables. I'll dive into the anatomy and physiology of these injuries from a clinical work side of things so that way it can consumers of the sportsline content will have good information helped make decisions about their fantasy football teams. So how how do you deal with injury reports. It's with all the questionable. We don't have probable anymore as a few years ago now. Have you been able to read in between the lines basically with some different coaches different teams in in their injury reports. Yeah I mean it can be a little bit difficult times. What I rely on heavy is just my clinical experience. When you have an idea of certain injuries for example soft tissue injury a hamstring are a quad which will chat about some guys here on a little bit tend to be a little more finicky so it's more of a true questionable in that situation other injuries? He's like an ankle sprain or or something else like that. Questionable might lean more towards them actually being able to play but it can still be a little bit difficult to get a vibe without probable improbable. Designation haven't been done away with a couple of years ago all right. We've Got Julian Edelman and Josh Gordon Edmund with a rib contusion Josh Gordon who returned with a hand injury man. I saw enough of that Patriots game. It seemed like Josh Gordon was taking a hard tumble to the ground almost every time he went out for a pass it he just got beat up but he did may stay in a game and I think he led the team in receiving but do you think we could be looking at absences here for Edleman Gordon. I think an absence elements going to be a little bit more likely than for Gordon now. I'm not guaranteeing that elements miss some time. He's going to have an emory later today to evaluate the integrity of his rib cartilage xrays came back normal on his actual ribs so that's good. There's no rib fracture rib. Cartilage is what they're looking at now so again. We're early in the week. So I'd say right now is probably fifty fifty fifty fifty for week four as as for Gordon. He's dealing with a little bit of a hand and a finger injury. He was able to return to the game which is usually a good indicator at these guys will be okay moving forward so in terms of either one of these guys missing time. Ahmed say it'd be elemental over Gordon. If anytime needs to be missed. GonNa ask about a couple of players who re aggravated an injury but I did want to plug sportsline. I kept forgetting to do that. Sports
Patriots may soon have to deal with their first Antonio Brown issue and it has to do with his number
"We have to talk about the biggest storyline in the NFL Antonio Brown as it looks like the saga for Antonio in some ways is finally ending and in other ways. It's just beginning for number eighty four as Antonio uh-huh Brown signs a one year proved deal with the New England patriots and it's hilarious because there is so much speculation when all his shenanigans with the Oakland Raiders for going on that really it was just a grand master plan for Bill Bella check to somehow land the all world talent wide receiver in sure enough he gets released from the raiders and later that day signs deal with the New England patriots another huge weapon in the offense four. Tom Brady and this has shades of what Randy Moss did did when he was with the Oakland Raiders. Moss spent some time in Oakland during his games he played for the raiders. You could just see that the big hall of fame wide receivers hardest wasn't in it. He wasn't really producing for the raiders he was now running routes with this full heart. You can just tell that he wasn't the Randy Moss when he was sooner in Oakland and then he goes to the Patriots under Bill Belichick and has a career year a record setting year with Tom. Brady Brady threw for fifty touchdown passes does that offense was just a cold plays away from being the first team to go perfect nineteen in Oh as they were trying to catch the seventy two dolphins they lose of of course the super bowl to the tremendous comeback led by Eli Manning and the New York giants. Is this going to be just like that. Are we gonNA see a patriots team. That could possibly go undefeated after Sunday night. That's a very real possibility that defense for the Patriots absolutely shut down the steelers and and if they know they're gonna get just a boatload of points on the offensive side of the ball you know Bill Belichick GonNa give all of his time and effort to making sure that that defense is ready eighty each and every week for their match. Make sure everyone's healthy ready to go that the scheme is right and we very well could see a run at history again in New England might right sound a bit presumptuous just in week one but the steelers are a classic. AFC favorite especially when they had the big three Bell Brown and Rothlisburger now with two of those three pieces Gone Smith Schuster looks to pick up the slack for Antonio Brown but now yet to find someone to pick up the slack for Juju at that wide receivers Chris to spot you also gotta be be frank here that James Connor is not living on bell. We saw that in that game Sunday night so the steelers were still a good test defensively civilly always are fantastic and brady made them just look like a peewee football team out there as he had no problem going for thirty three points in that game and pass over three hundred honored yards. You put a be in that mix with Josh Gordon Julian Edelman the running back tandem of James White as well as Sony Michelle is going to be a really tough challenge to beat this patriots team and because of that you who who's to say I mean they they could do it. They could do it you. You can't say they can't there. There is a real world possibility with the addition of Antonio Brown that the Patriots could make some history but now we gotta look back at how this came to be an Antonio oneal brown you could tell really from the Gecko once he got into camp once he started running some routes with Derek Carr in this raiders offense something clicked in his head that he did not want. I WANNA be in Oakland. I mean he did the cryotherapy happens and you chalk that up to operator malfunction with the frostbite on the feet then he goes on this insane escapade with the helmet trying to get all that taken care of in think in trying to use his old helmet. He's used forever he. He's had six months to do it and he doesn't think that's enough time to find a new helmet. I mean he's not looking for new kidney. He just needs a helmet you. There's ways to figure that out to make it fit and make it. It'd be comfortable everyone else in the NFL did it why couldn't he that becomes an issue. He's stays out of training camp. He doesn't do the walk throughs. The helmet issue did not mean he couldn't couldn't practice with the team he did that on his own accord and then he goes after the general manager of the raiders after he gets fine for actions he knows our final. He did them with that in mind. There wasn't like that fine just came out of the sky on him and Mike mayock gets verbally costed by Antonio Brown he goes on a barrage. I use of slayer of slurs cuss words to Mike May Auchan your raiders still still planned on playing him in there Monday night game against the broncos broncos that says a lot about the raiders as an organization that they were willing to take this abuse from Antonio Brown and take all this Prima Donna behavior behavior that was happening with Ab and still play him Monday night when he's barely practice with the team we talked earlier in the season here here on this show about how Antonio Brown by taking all this media attention has helped the raiders rookies developed because they haven't had to deal with it and that's still true in the lot of the raiders rookies have talked talked about in themselves and the second year players have said by having Antonio Brown. It's been nice that they haven't had to deal with the media coverage and hard knocks and that was really a lot more centered around Antonio Brown but he's also had a terrible example as an a way to conduct yourself as professional with what he's done with the raiders clearly didn't want to be there show the the reaction video when he finally gets released from the raiders and all of that finally goes down and I think the raiders are better off for it you if you're going to establish a new culture in Oakland. You can't have this going on in your locker room on your sideline. You need to get Antonio Brown out of out of there if he wants out all the better let him go you cut your losses just saved a lot of money by voting that twenty nine million that you would yet. You'RE GONNA pay him over the three years Antonio Brown you get your wish you go you get to play for the Patriots I think both sides can kind of wash their hands of the issue but now the rest of the NFL has to deal with the Patriots and Tom Brady having Tony Brown as viable and very real. You'll weapon for them

"Sports network. Joining us right now in studio. Three time Super Bowl champion and reigning Super Bowl, and the, the New England Patriots Julian an-and, who is a subject of a Showtime sports documentary. One hundred percent Julian Edelman, I had an opportunity to watch this last night, and it is really cool. It is not your traditional walk you through documentary. It is awesome. The way this thing was told the story was told and what I thought was really cool was, how it was. You know, your rehab, and your life to stories going on at the same time. And we're being walked through it simultaneously. It is awesome. You have to check it out. It premiers Friday, June twenty eighth on Showtime. Jillian, thanks for being here. How are you? I'm doing logos. Thanks for having me. So the story couldn't have ended any better. So we're seeing you going through all these things the injury, the suspension. Coming back your darkest times, but in the end, it's more than storybook. You're the Super Bowl MVP your hoisting another Lombardi trophy, your third as a member of the patriots. I mean this story wrote itself. It's incredible. You know, we definitely looked out with, with how a lot of things worked at self out. But, you know, the story kind of is a microcosm of my life, you know, he's having to battle, you never been the number one guy never been the number one draft pick, the guy that everyone's looking at this, that having to go the long road dealing with some adversity and kinda just battle in yourself mentally, because that's, that's some of the hardest stuff when you heard his athlete, and just put in one day in front of another, or in about what you control and going out and trying to put out your best in scene, where the chips fall and, and, you know, the, you know, I've been fortunate enough and blessed enough that when I've done that, you know. Things have gone. Well, you know, the thing is that you care about it. You care about your career you care about playing care about being on the field. Your plan for a maniac that you always have to prove yourself every single day in the practice field, the meeting rooms and all that other stuff. I think back to when you and our last together, it was the Super Bowl in Minneapolis, and you and I made an appearance together. And everybody said, why is he so miserable? You would be miserable to if you're getting ready to play for the Super Bowl, and you're dealing with an injury and trying to get through it, and how lonely you are now. I haven't seen this yet but I have read about it in. Gio was telling me a little bit about it, how you talk about getting injured and how lonely it felt and how I guess distance from the team you felt. And maybe that's why that night in Minneapolis other than it being thirty five below zero a little bit miserable. I I mean. mean. I don't know if I was miserable. But you're definitely you're in that sense of lonely. Like you said acted you're definitely distracted. Because, you know, you have so much on your mind your team's about the play in the game that you love like I've played in that game. And you know the magnitude of that game, and you're sitting in your watching, and you didn't get to participate this year, a whole year out of football. And then you in the other side you have how dealing with this injury. You know, like all right about six five and a half months out. They feels. All right. Doesn't feel great. You know, you're just you're battling those types of things, especially when you heard as an athlete, you know, it also lead you into decision making sometimes. And sometimes you make bad decisions. Yeah. And you felt like what it was like to make a bad decision. And your dad actually was as I understand a very disappointed with some of the decis. You made to get yourself back on the field. All yeah. He you know what happened with, you know, the spend my father, and I kinda when separate ways for two and a half months because of. You know, legally all this stuff that we're dealing with, and this, and that and he, he didn't he, he's got that old school mentality, and he didn't realize all the pieces of the puzzle, and we didn't talk, and you know, we, we actually captured that in this documentary were, you know, you see the ability to, you know, the athletes life, not just from sports world. But how they deal with their family, their friends, their surroundings, the expectations the all those types of things that every person deals with in life pressure anxiety to things that could lead to bad things. But that's what you said you. That was that was the best part of the best part, so honest. And also you guys coming together afterwards. So your coaches you when you're younger and the unconventional way of coaching. He's throwing towels in your face and just making uncomfortable and all these things that don't make any sense. But then when you're not allowed to be with the team after. For this time. Are you guys are part you come back together, and he can do the same things that he did when he was coaching you as a kid and then to see you, too, that shot of U2. standing next to each other out on the practice field and him just smile year to year 'cause it gets to coach again after went through the adversity. I mean that that gave me chill so mean to see your family life. I mean, I know yes, the guys kicking the jets ass all the time. Right, and winning Super Bowl MVP's. But now I know you through your your father and your brother and your sister, and, and that must have been really fulfilling for you to watch that on film, your relationship progress with your father. You know, I was talking with boomer earlier that sometimes in life, you have so much on your plate that you don't get to appreciate certain things as much as you, you wish you, you would have, you know, in hindsight and through this process of making this and, you know, you're sick of watching it, but, like the first few times of going through it and seeing it, you know, you've already moved on from it, and you're already thinking about next year, and you already have, you know what your you want to do better in this that and the other. So you don't always get to remember that watching it. It was kind of refreshing to see that, and, and, and, you know, I wouldn't be where I'm at without my father and month of support my family and, you know, it was it was, it was a cool way to see that. And, and really appreciate that more IBA worry about, what coach Bela check would have thought about you doing something like this. During the did you go run? Him. You know, I, I didn't necessarily run it by them. But. I, I know coaches rules. And what he I appreciated his boundaries through this whole thing I didn't want. I didn't do anything to jeopardize the team any kind of way. I don't think you know, he's got a, a standard of what he thinks we should be doing in certain things with the media, and I feel like I tried to respect those two this, my billion and not be a distraction with with certain things. I love you're young. You're great player your Super Bowl. You're popular you or you're out there on the scene. If you will, when you're out there, people write about you, and everything else. You get what's going on in the world. You get the Twitter sphere, you get the Instagram and all that other stuff. I are you as a maze, as I am that seems like nobody within the patriots organization ever violates those rules as opposed to other organizations were guys are out there. Like you know, let's say in Tonio Brown, let's say Odell Beckham JR. Junior guys are always out there in the social media world yet. Very rarely is there a patriot player ever crossing that line. I mean, I think there's. There's clear expectations on how to handle those things, and our, our staff, with media, and in our coaches, explain those things thoroughly. So, you know, and you also learn from the older guys and what you can and can't do. And you kinda respected in new us social media to kind of shape, your personality completely away from football, nothing to really do with football scheme to schedule this that and the other, you know. So I had a unique situation. I wasn't with the team. Yeah. You know, so there's a couple of loopholes air loopholes. One of other part of, of this whole thing. And I'm sure he's in the in the documentary GIO mentioned it to me, the Alex Guerrero, angle here, and the controversy around him and everything else, and what has gone on. There is a fair controversy surrounding him or is it? Or do you think it's I think the media, I think it's a little blown out of proportion. I think it's unfair. You know, I think it's just the media trying to get a story with with whatever's going on between everything that goes on with. Everyone's speculations. You know, I don't think there's any controversy. I love Alex, he you know, I still work with him. He's got some of the best soft tissue techniques that I've ever had. And, you know, I believe in a lot of lot of what he, he's about an his system, you know, in his method of training and all that stuff is incorporated, with other training. So, you know, I don't think there's anything wrong with how incorporated in the dock or I think I think those allegations of controversy are kinda ridiculous and the organization and him now. Everything's okay. There's not any real rift between Bella check and Guerrero and him being allowed to be are around anymore because that seemed like a big, big deal last year the year before you'd have to ask coach or Alex on that I see him here and there and, you know, I use them for what I need to use them with. And his muscle coaches and his massage techniques and all that stuff. So, you know, I think they do wonderful job of what they do. And you know that's how much does this cost because it's not cheese right now. We played softball over the weekend. You know, he pulled the quad I third baseman Paul hamstring. I got I got a third basement in their my producer doesn't want the hard ball. Shit out on the softball for God's sake. I mean, he's got Mr. Mielke, Hans right? Yeah. Thanks. I pull muscle of probably hydrated, right? You know, between you and Brady and ballot check, everybody's all in. I get it, you know, and which is great. And it's really admirable to watch from a far, but I actually had a guy on my softball team this weekend. Basically say one of his teammates. I think I've lost the edge. I think I've lost the competitiveness that I once had my life. Yeah. That would be me and standing by that. Yes. I mean I give him some advice out to get the edge back. I don't want wanna back. You could save your words. I don't want. I'm not like guys anymore. Here's the thing. See, you know because you guys are professional athletes. Right. You can't make a professional athlete mentality out of a guy like mate. You can't do it. I played in high school. I'm going how many pounds of you lost? I lost sixty pounds. Pack and I'm still throwing the ball away. I'm done. It does is nothing. That can save me. It's like a pitcher either got the stuff or at all. Or you don't have the movement, bro. What is Julian Elon, is my witness? I am retiring than the softball team playing. I will be every game I will be there for the brand. I will sign autographs take the pictures on not playing anymore. Believable. I love softball. Yeah. Shame it is what happens when you're playing with. You know what that means? I, I can kind of put it in non athletic regular exactly what I have. Any basically admitted on the bench on Saturday island. I'm standing places fire island. Have you ever been have? Never been should go anyway for all places fire on. He says, I've lost my competitive spirit done. It's over could you imagine going to coach and saying that I don't think it'd be there, you'll ask conversation, maybe move on. Yeah. Well, it's different with the patriots and your softball team, but much as athletes, or different this one part of the documentary talk about you get you get drafted. Right. And you're waiting for a phone call from from Tom Brady to work out, because you're out in California, and he's thinking Tom's gonna come out..

"Does not give you a linear path. It's not sunny every day with no traffic. And the kids slept through the night and use leaped perfectly and the eggs were just right. That's not life. That's a television show. That's a script. Life has having to overcome crap. Bad bosses average help late to work a wreck. You gotta use an apt to get there. That's what life's all about Tom Brady yesterday. I've said this about LeBron James the most impressed I've ever been with LeBron James in my life wasn't winning with the great. Kyrie Irving wasn't winning with Chris Bosh and the great delayed when LeBron James lost Kevin love, and Kyrie Irving and took the golden warriors. Golden State Warriors six games in the finals and has the best most reliable teammate. He had was Matthew Della Vedova, and he took the warriors six games with Matthew della. Vedova? Are you kidding me? There's never been a basketball player in curbing, Michael Jordan, Kareem magic Koby Larry MJ that could. Matthew, Della Vedova and got six games into the finals, overcoming stuff blows me away. That's why Hollywood makes movies about rags to riches about people that don't get perfectly. What they want yesterday the game winning drive. I read a story this morning that essentially with nine minutes to go in the game. Josh mcdaniels went to the sideline. The patriot offensive coordinator and said I'm scrapping the game plan. Nothing's working. We're going to do something. And we haven't practiced this in months we're going to huddle every play we're gonna use two tight ends in a fullback and have an empty backfield. And they huddled every play because they hadn't practiced it. And they averaged on that drive twelve yards of play the rest of the game. They average four by the way, I'm not saying last year Super Bowl wasn't impressive for Tom who threw for five hundred yards and everything worked and Danny amendola was opened. And element was open. And Chris HOGAN was open. I'm not saying that wasn't impressive. But what was impressive yesterday is the Rams virtually everything away except Julian Edelman and I love Patrick Mahomes. And I love Russell Wilson. I love Andrew luck. I love Aaron Rodgers their all amazing toes guys aren't winning a Super Bowl with Julian Edelman? Are you kidding me? Did it never deep threat? They couldn't sold her running backs. They're running game was spotty. Chris HOGAN was blanketed Brady faced interior pressure. The Rams had an unbelievable game plan and Brady with a seventy one quarterback passer rating one by the way, let me tell you the quarterbacks who have been able to win Super Bowls when they didn't play. Great Terry Bradshaw. Ninety six passing yards won a Super Bowl. John Elway fifty one point nine passer rating won a Super Bowl. Peyton Manning won a Super Bowl with a passer rating of fifty six Big Ben when a Super Bowl with a passer rating of twenty two and Tom Brady yesterday one with a seventy one what are they all have in common? Their hall of fame level players most quarterbacks in this league, Kirk cousins, guys I like Alex Smith, they need a lot of stuff to work for them to win big games. Nothing or for new. England, except Ataman. We're spoiled. We've had so many good Super Bowls in a row that if it's not a firework show, but then go to overtime if it's not thirty five thirty four who cared yesterday was all about great defensive game plans. Great defensive pass rush. Great secondary. Play a defenses were unbelievable yesterday. Wade Phillips tip of the cap. Bella check Brian Flora's tip the cap, but one player on offense was able to overcome that scrap the game plan beer a source vol using just Jillian edleman and win the Super Bowl Tom Brady. I want to shift to this. Great to have you ended on Monday really is great to have you in. I wanna talk a bit about Julian Edelman because there's five or six patriots that create the core of their team gronk and Brady and Eshelman. Devon McCorvey Dante Hightower shack Mason and not all of them are high paid most are paid below market value. They are the core of the team and I'm all for free agents, and I'm all for trades. But realize when you get somebody via trade.

"They're trying to get a day better than yesterday i'll ask you probably know the answer in advance but i'm going to do my job and ask anyway disney's team at all compared to either of the two championship teams that you report of it honestly i can't even answer that because i haven't been in the trenches with them and every team is different i mean that that the two teams that i won with uh what i was a part of uh those teams were completely different in an with themselves uh so you never really know unless you're a guy you know on that fifty three forty six on game day that that's out there playing and and seeing in the eyes of of fellas in in uh in the huddle and and seeing how things go i mean i can't i can't i can't answer that question i'm not part of it i'm gonna go back to those championship teams i'm going to ask you this do you think you're ever going to get tired of being asked about your catch in the super bowl as she two two parents all receiver animated has sued the remake can instantly law of the day overcome they you just don't want to talk about anymore yeah i mean they it's you get pretty tired of it already already i mean i don't even think about that play i think about the third down on right out of the three in out our defense gave us.

"Here's the thing i think they're good enough to make the playoffs they may have lost warned game many already when you look at all the teams that are in front of them and that they are vying with right now they're going to have to be flawless down the stretch now the good thing for them is that it really is starting to look more more like aaron rodgers will be back next week against carolina all that will take his medical clearance and the doctors and them winning sunday against the cleveland browns if they can win sunday and he gets medical clearance i think he plays against carolina and if he plays against carolina then their chances are increased infinitesimally but the problem is nearly plays against carolina at still a tough tina managers to win that game exert and they've got to win out here to make the playoffs in a conference that just stacked with good teams absolutely adam we know that you're not a coach you're a journalist but if you were a football coach sam rubio at rubio theme thirty one wants to know if you could shoes any team to coach in the nfl left one would it be wipro article to philadelphia eagles because that means i will get a 23 24yearold cross a winter my job would be safe for the next ten twelve years so if i'm going to pick a team to coach i know philadelphia's a tough media market to fans are impatient they get angry i got all that but i'm going where i can coach a quarterback for the next twelve years because of i got a great young quarterback and carson winces than my job is basically safe as long as i do things and hanna myself right then through and let's say you do when a super bowl their your uh your deified well in philadelphia i would love to be defined with other.

"Opinions perspectives i think some youth there might do them some good i think that the look at that i know people wonder about vance joseph future i i don't believe they want to plan to intend to let him go but i also know that there's going to be four weeks left in the season and they're going to be some games that they have in december where their home stadium is gonna be lightly filled for games they're probably gonna wind up losing the fans are gonna get increasingly angry and they're still is more time in the season to soil things so even though the broncos don't want to do anything and don't plan do anything you just never release things out because december can be an ugly month for losing teams having type of seasons that the broncos have had this year absolutely we obviously know the broncos are not going to win the afc west but case in floyd wants to know at this point atom who's your money on to win that division i think right now kansas city as the home game against the chargers and i know the chiefs have been slumping and struggling and they're not doing much of anything right the defense's suddenly spree leaks but the fact the matter is the charter still have to go there the raiders are competing but here's the problem with the raiders schedule three the last four games or on the road and they play teams all vying for the playoffs so of those three teams i don't like the raiders at all the chargers are really coming on their hotter than the chiefs they're playing better football on the chiefs but they still have to go win in arrowhead in december and if they can do that than they deserve to in the afc west while we're playing the prediction game adam joey at joey m avino wants to know will the packers make the playoffs yes or no.

"Nickel higher i used to hear the same thing about coercion wentz this september of his final season in north dakota state had a gm comments i got my sleep quarterback i'm gonna be able to get in the third round coercion wentz and of course it didn't happen that way because there are other teams that call me in octobernovember and all of a sudden everybody who by carsten once and eventually the philadelphia eagles traded up go get him with the second overall pick so there are these quarterbacks uh there are other quarterbacks out there this quarterback in north carolina state up begun to hear a lot about luke falk is out there mason rudolf i've heard quite a bit about an there are supposedly other quarterbacks out there as well josh so it it it goes deep and it's going to be bountiful and there's gonna be a chance for plenty of teams with quarterback questions to go find a quarterback anatomy talked about the guys who study this foural living yeah mel and todd bear on podcast it's called first draft a new episode dropped yesterday tuesday so if the draft is your thing do yourself a favor check that out in your favorite podcast and platform and what's there take on quarterbacks right now jay jay say it's incredibly deep out of yet himmler you got alpha and and they they said that josh rosen is the most polished but other guys may have a higher ceiling speaking of the draft this question from ryan brothers at brothers ryan given the broncos recent lack of draft success adam what changes do you anticipate them making in the way they scout in draft talon a lot of guys are saying john elway might means the all new heat under that seat you know it's funny they want the super bowl a couple of years they on genoa gets an extension where the richest extensions for nedical executive at all times and other questions and people criticising because they're having the worst season that they've had in franchise history since nineteen sixty seven and i covered that team fifteen years and losing doesn't play well there or anywhere so i understand it i think what they may do as they me look to infuse some young personnel people into their for an office to try to get another different set of eyes.

"And i think those are some of the guys you're looking at joey cling scales a guy on oakland some nice work with that roster um as always been waiting for an opportunity terry mcdonough interviewed for jobs in arizona last year and was a finalist for the forty nine or job ultimately went to john lynch and so it's it's question of what ernie corsi were jumairah uh what steve tisch what they want to do that job when we talk about the head coach and candidates i think people most people stored in new england with josh mcdaniel's map patricia in no particular order josh the elephants coordinator met the defensive coordinator bolton drew very well patch shurmur done a great job at the vikings this year as the offense coordinator i think crucial shored this york defensive coordinator is going to get some looks as his tyrrell lost in the lions defensive coordinator are no doubt my mind about that um my group was a guy that thought of very highly of wigan are recycled coach jim schwartz done a great job in philly you know like i mentioned pat sherman has been echoed before so there are a lot of kennesaw i've heard that from teams and people that other on a lotta great candidates this year i don't believe that at all i i think there's always great candidates and as i think it's up to the teams to go find them always one thing that whoever is in the front office with the giants will have to do likely is finding new quarterback and can the whim at ken g limbs seventeen wants to know which quarterbacks in the upcoming draft class look the most legit to you at adam well here's what we know it's early december and the people who started this for a living say it's one of the deeper quarterback classes that we've seen her wall and i think that if sam dorrell comes out he'll be up there josh rosen is a universally held in high regard for his talents health and some other questions josh alan wyoming still going to be a very high draft pick teams love baker mayfield ambrus twenty right now i've already had a bunch team say man baker mayfield love that guy which always tells me when i start here of multiple teams that they love a particular quarterback to these.

"What's your question if if they're going gonna come loose basically let's keep in here's a notrade clause in his contract so he would have to approve or sign off on any place he's traded he also as a fivemilliondollar roster bonus do on the fifth daily gear so if he doesn't wanna play for new york and they wanna make a move our basically he we get to dictate where he goes now if he were on the open market a he would command i'm sure he'd ask for quite a bit of money eighteen nineteen twenty million dollars a year now what he would get i don't know in the end it would be a function of how many teams would be out there won't pay him but he's always done very well contractually i don't know that he would do quite as well but they're still be enough demand i would peg the number for eli manning on the open market at nineteen million dollars year i like that i like their let's keep it in the big apple would this question from anastacia williams anastacia or anastazia zero 26 who are some potential general managers and coaches they need both that the giants will be looking at well listen i think when you have ernie a corsi helping on the search or you're going to have a slant towards certain people that he's connected to now if you go back and look at the people that he has recommended to other teams in the past and he's he has done that he is recommended other people here the people that he's recommended to other teams when they have consulted with him tom heckert was with the denver broncos chris meroe whose with the giants gene smith who is with the jaguars dave gettleman we work with who was with the panthers john dorsey with the chice mark ross with the giants george pain in the vikings lake dawson now the browns are believe brian game sheldon white shrink kirchner kevin abrams the giants in through gm these are named that he's recommended before and they had to figure would be in play now i think that it's also fair to assume that we're going gonna hear something about the new england gm nick caserio who's going to get some play here.
