Danielle Joins Dinesh to Talk About a Controversy at Yale Law School

"So Danielle, let's talk a little bit about this business, Yale law school, a prominent judge, James hole, says I'm not going to hire any more clerks from Yale law school because they're regularly suppressing free speech. In fact, there was an event in which a conservative speaker. This is Christian Wagner of the alliance defending freedom. Was there to speak at Yale? The students began to shout and scream and prevent her from speaking. There was a dean of Yale in the audience who did nothing even to ask them to quiet down and then later the dean of the law school, this has had the gherkin said no action would be taken against any of the students. And so this judge has mentioned that incident and others and he goes, listen, you know, I don't really want to punish the students, but I want to punish Yale. I like what he says, you know, he goes, I don't want to cancel Yale. I want Yale to stop canceling people like me. So, and now if it was just him, it'd be one thing, but other judges have joined in and Yale is having a freak out. Yeah, that is good because Yale should not be able to get away with this. And the reason they get away with it is because people continue to hire them. That's the main reason these students want to go to schools like this and so that they get these Supreme Court clerkships and so that they get good jobs afterwards. So if more judges like him say we don't want to hire these students, these graduates, then Yale is not going to like that because they will not be able to supply those jobs for some of those students. So if other judges are doing the same thing, that will hurt Yale overall.

"P news. Campaign 2022 on WTO P looks like there won't be a delay in Maryland and counting up votes after the midterm elections in November. That's because a judge is allowing mailed ballots to be counted before election day rather than after, which is the usual policy. In his ruling, Montgomery county judge James Bond says mandatory deadlines will be missed if you didn't take this action. Under the decision mail in ballots will be able to be counted as they come in for the election in Maryland in November. Counting can start October 1st. The state board of elections asked for this change, anticipating 1 million to 1.3 million mail in ballots in the upcoming election. This ruling affects only this election not others going forward. And of course, the effect is, we'll all know who is elected, possibly on election night, or soon after, and not weeks and weeks after those mail in ballots are counted. In Rockville, Kyle Cooper, WTO news. I'm Kate Ryan. Marilyn state senator Cheryl Kagan spoke outside the courthouse where a judge ruled that elections officials could start counting mail in ballots before Michael and son and get $100 off a train cleaning today. "69° dropping to the 40s. Good evening, I'm Dimitri sodas. And I'm Hillary Howard. Our top story is campaign 2022. A judge has issued a ruling today that could speed up when people know who the voters in Maryland will choose this November. A judge in Montgomery county has approved a request from the Maryland board of elections that will allow mail in ballots to be counted as they come in instead of after election day. The board made the request anticipating 1 million to 1.3 million mail in ballots in the November election. Judge James Bonham said mandatory deadlines will be missed if he didn't take this action The ruling only applies to this upcoming election, and even though the mail in ballots can be counted early, the results of those ballots will not be publicized until election day, counting can begin on October 1st. In Rockville, Kyle Cooper, WTO news. There is reaction this afternoon from local election boards as we hear from WTO's cape Ryan. Without allowing mail in ballots to be counted as they're received, election results in Maryland can stretch for weeks as they did in Montgomery county in the July 19th primary. Gilberto Zelaya with the Montgomery county board of elections says mail in ballots have become increasingly popular in the state. Right now, the mail in ballot requests sits at about a 116,000. Says the key to getting those timely election results is having voters return their mail in ballots quickly. The decision by Montgomery county circuit court judge applies to this election alone, it does not make a permanent change to Maryland state law. Kate Ryan. Meanwhile, Virginia voters started casting ballots in the November midterms. I just got up a little extra early and decided that I want to come down here. Here to the fairfax county government center, Frank Anderson was first in line for the start of early in person voting today

"Major development in a legal battle between the loudoun county school board and Virginia's attorney general, Jason Maurice, a judge says a special grand jury convened by the AG can continue to investigate the school system's response to sexual assaults by a boy who was allowed to stay in class. Let's get the story tonight from WTO's neologist team. Here in loudoun county, circuit court, the Deputy Attorney General told the judge the school board does not get to decide the scope of the investigation or whose question and the school board is not above the law. Lawyers for the school board argued that the special grand jury was going far beyond looking for potential criminal activity and was focusing on school policy issues, judge James ploughman, who's overseeing the special grand jury, said the school system can't know where the investigation will lead and said that it can continue. The school board can appeal. In loudoun county near law it can stay in double. There was no spray paint anywhere. We were having a peaceful vigil, but it turned ugly. As have many demonstrations over the last several weeks, declaring it a riot doesn't change the rules here. Now the American Civil Liberties Union and others have filed a contempt of court lawsuit against the city, its second one this time involving police actions at the vigil and three other demonstrations, including the one where an officer rolled his bike over a man's head. We're really asking just Jones to clarify what is allowed and what isn't allowed under that order because that order is still in effect. But we still see protestors protestors being hurt every single day. Federal Judge Richard Jones ruled in June that the city could use pepper spray blast balls under limited circumstances when it wass necessary, reasonable proportional and targeted to a specific, imminent threat. We think that's a really high standard that applies to very rare circumstances. But SPD is invoking it constantly. Wait a minute. Are you asking yourself to in the City Council pass a ban on tear gas, blast balls, rubber bullets and limited use of pepper spray. In June, the City Council passed a ban on these measures in response to public outcry to have the right to protest and not feel threatened by those charged with your safety. Any chemical weapon makes me feel a lot safer. But the Seattle Times reports the U. S. Department of Justice asked the federal court to prevent Seattle police from implementing the ban. The DOJ argued the band could conflict with the 2012 federal consent decree governing Seattle police bias and excessive use of force. The extended restraining order is in place until June
