"Beaters are threes. Yeah, I didn't know he could do that to be perfectly blunt with you bed. I didn't think that he had those shots in his game. The shots that I knew he had are the mid range jumpers and we had Kirk goldsbury on this podcast, pretty recently to talk about Kevin Durant and how Kevin Durant has become this master of the mid range. His mid range jumpers are more valuable in terms of shot efficiency than most players three pointers because of his skill at that shot, but the martyr Rosen. I mean, he might be the king in his own way. This is his thing. It's just a story of damar's career, right? Like what looks like a bad shot for most players. He's just not actually a bad shot for him. You know, he's been so good at getting to exactly what spot he wants and taking exactly what shot he wants and really like Kevin Durant. The defender doesn't feel like it matters a whole lot. You know, he's shooting about as frequently as he did from that bit range area like he did in Toronto, but in 2016, 17, one of the last times that he took as many mid range field goals, he was shooting 41% on those looks. Back in 2016, 2017. This season, that's up to 47%. And that's on pace for the highest average of his career. We should add jubal that the barter rose is he's not doing this alone. Like when I watch this team, they play like they've been playing together for years. So as the beat writer, the guy watching this team night in night out in person, what are you seeing? What's impressive about how they've been doing this? I think so many guys are just in the right role, right? Like demar and Zach are able to lead the offense and lead their respective units and really everything runs through those guys. On the other end of the floor, you've got Lonzo in Caruso. And they just make life hell. They're so good. The call of YouTube has got out to a slow start, but his last ten games or so, he's been an automatic double double 17 and ten guy. They just have a rotation in a team right now that all knows exactly how to play off each other. How does demar himself given all of this? How does he feel about the prospects of his team being able to compete with, say, Milwaukee, Brooklyn, like the conventional favorites in the Eastern Conference down the stretch? I think the fact that this team came in and just gelled so quickly so instantly and find themselves on top of the conference. I think that kind of has him looking even further, right? He's not been to Eastern Conference Finals in years. And I think that he really looks at this as a chance to say if we get the right health, the right luck, the right timing, he thinks his team has got a chance to get to the finals and that's the one thing that he hasn't done in his career. What's the feeling on his team, man? Consider where y'all are now at this point. I believe championship man. If we healthy, we got the capability.

I don't think i can be in this rock band anymore triumph because it just eats up to way too many big chunks of my life and i need to be a father a husband to from family. This is much more important to me. You know so but you know. My kids are all in their thirties. Now and i'm a grandfather. And now i look at these grandkids. I go so this is how this works. Like this is kind of life ends up. Your horizon is in those kids now you know and and and my own kids. i'm going. Yeah yeah i mean i love. I love them but Fan for themselves. now take care of themselves so degree. that's with this. So maybe that shows you what my priorities are inserted. How yeah. What will you do sort of. Give give a hint in the gender strangers foreigners and lovers yet year end off that with i have never so complete as when i am fully engaged surrendered willingly committed in the service of others. But it had you know but yes Circling for family. That's true but also you know. I was always completely happy to volunteer to be on a curriculum committee at the college. I said there's some people wouldn't be caught dead and they would say well. You can bill for your time. And beverly like this is great. This is like the the the judge gave me this court appointed community service a community service that i love to do. I like i like it. I used to love the moment at the end of the night. Finish the show you know. Stand up everybody's applauding into the encore kissed the mecca my guitar and you know bow and think i've just been in service to these people. It's nice that i'm getting a paycheck. I love that. I'm going to say no to the money Black i also just love the fact that i was able to do this thing creatively that was so fulfilling for these folks and that was to be their service in their at rick. When you when you got into teaching what did you start. You said you started off. Teaching the business of music What did you want your students to know. I'm guessing there was stuff you said. Oh i can't wait to tell about all of these things you know. It's not just fun playing and guitar banging on the drums. They need to have something up here. So i'm curious. What was it about. What did you want to teach them. You first started. Well i wanted to understand the practical realities a career was going to be like and i mean the first day i would write on the board Ah van morrison quote you know. Music is spiritual the music businesses. Not and there was another one that i like to well. There was one where all never been. Remember it now but it was like who was the guy that wrote for rolling stone and he had the cigarette in the cigarette older and Any road fear and loathing in las vegas. Oh yeah the the movie then. Right train remembers name now. Alias talk eight. There was a cooler it was. It was something along the lines of the music. Business is a long plastic hallway full of thieves camps. And you know blah blah blah pay was. There's also a bad side. I would redacted them. I would say like the music. Business is a business of mutual exploitation. And you have to understand that there's gonna be guys that are businessmen and you are just a widget to them. You're just you know you're just meet and that's how that's gonna work and you have to know that that's the way that works and accept that you have to be perfectly willing to go. No no actually. It's it's about money you know and and and and that would be the first less the the second thing i would say. Is you know in those. When i started music business. Which just an option that they could take in their third year. So i'd have maybe thirty five four a people in the room right eventually. The whole school had to take it so now i have two classes and they would like one hundred twenty in each class. A visually are sharing the workload was submitted. Because that's a hell of a lot of marking graded jubal link anyway so So i would say to them. You know Here we are in this classroom. There's food and i hate to tell you but statistics canada. We'll tell you there's only gonna be one and a half of you that are going to end up having a job and music business that's the statis- and said you're here at humber college. Which is you know It's not even like mcgill or of t. programs where they're training classical musicians to be in in that you know part of the business and that's where a lot of the statistics are coming from. You guys your odds are even worse. I hate to tell you and the the one of you that might end up having a job. you're probably going to be working for music publisher or you're gonna be working as manager of a line of mcquaid store you. It's not going to be the music business career you think you're going to have black. There will be one of you every three classes. That is going to have a music business career like you. You're gonna be in the music business as a musician now. I know what everyone was thinking. I'm going to be that good while the ambition is i of course the reality the the practical reality of it is the your your actual chops as business person as entrepreneurship are not gonna match your decision. You're dreaming pipedream. you know. And they sadly realize it over the next four or five years of their lives. They get to the point where they don't not not for me. I guess i'm going to take a job bookkeeper with my uncle. Louie wow you taught for a while you you left in twenty nine thousand nine right ally actually left the teaching the year before that i knew my crutch and then i played out that foale of gigs and played a huge room in toronto in january and it was the last gig that i played live aware. Both the gagan played my own repertoire. That's your thing. I i'll i'll still go and sit in from time to time do things. I never going to book my own shows. Input is hugh's room still up and running. You guys are gonna get you a question lit later on where you're going to work but we're going to get what i wanted to get. Rick was the stuff that you started teaching and then when you stop teaching a few years ago like so much changed in the music industry so much changed about how you make money in the music industry especially with the advent of streaming i mean just a huge disruptor or a huge opportunity depending upon you to look at things.

Why Its Expensive to Be Poor

"They say it takes money to make money. It's true and it's also true that it costs money when you don't have money or a better way to put it. It's expensive to be poor. This is jubal added things. Food is more expensive when you don't have a local grocery store or can't afford to buy in bulk wants to carry a ten gallon jug of pickles on the subway. Not me housing is more expensive when you have to stay in a motel because you can't afford a security deposit to rent an apartment in many other random little things. Add up like how it costs more over time to do your laundry at a laundromat when you can't afford a washer and dryer but today we're just a focus on banking and how it is more expensive to manage your money when you don't have a lot of it while cashing your paycheck and paying your bills is pretty tedious for most of us. It's actually a challenge for those who are poor or lack stable income. A few years back many big banks realized they weren't making enough money off of small accounts so instead of offering free no minimum balance checking accounts the kind popular with many low income customers. They decided to require minimum bounces and customers. Pablo that threshold. They have to pay a monthly see. That's right if you don't have enough money in your checking account you have to pay the bank ten to fifteen dollars that you probably don't have because if you did you'd have it in your checking

"And you get there. We get a taste of it like we're all in i mean we're looking at. Msg sold out all these amazing bucket list venues then all at once the entire world shuts down and it was just got to our heads a little bit man. You know if. I think everybody speak for the music industry. When when i say it's like we were all looking around like we still have a career gonna do this. You know and i i think the first couple of weeks of shell shock. I remember a lot of pacing around my yard like just pulling weeds. They've been all kinds of odd jobs. Landscaping trying to stay busy. And then i think you know after a few weeks of that like man. This is crazy opportunity that we have. There's you know blessing in the skies silver lining not being on the road for year and a half like. Let's let's make the most of it so we made an album and now here we are your and a half later like with a new album out to the fans a couple of singles that have gone up the charred gonna number one that. We've not gotten to play live a single time which is like the craziest thing because usually when you have a number one song you've got a song at the top of the charts. You're out there. Feeling it's ryan jubal energy from the fans. Sing it back to you every night but we just like the people actually know this song is somebody is is. I don't know somebody played a prank on us here. We are in rehearsals man. And it's going amazing. We're working new songs of the set. And i think you know. Speaking our artists friends begin. Everybody crew folks out there on the road. It's like the energy is high fans are ready for. It waited long enough. And i think you know i. I think it just causes us to appreciate the moments a little bit more. You know usually is rehearsal days a grueling. You know you're in there at seven. Am you're working till past seven pm's long long days but i think we're all looking around and join it a little bit more appreciate you know people the friends. We could spend the time with minutes all that much more worthwhile when we get out there and feel it onstage. Man we've got a few shows on our belts this summer. And it's like i get goosebumps even thinking about it's crazy. Yeah i mean you guys probably were like the rest of us thought all right. We're gonna shut this down for a week. Maybe two weeks of back out on the road ever could have imagined it was going to be a year and a half. What was that like to wait this long to get back on stage and sing those songs to your fans man. It was pretty crazy like dan said it was. Shell shocked at the beginning of just. What do we do now. And a lot of kind of waiting around like we heard anything just kind of you know trying to get updates from her body and then i think it kind of turned into all right. We're going to try to settle in. And i had had a baby our youngest. Anc was born two weeks before bridgestone chesney just kind of a wild thing anyway was kind of preparing myself to you know..

And then there's also like the gusts of wind in like. Yeah all that kinda shit so maybe out what could even like how. I just. don't think yeah. I i never wanna to settle and be like all right. Well i've done this. There's a few a few points in my career already. That like all right like that was enough. That was enough. That was cool like that monetarily or whatever it is. It's just kind of like i a chocolate up. At the end of the day i was successful. Artists like marketing. Make some real money or that kind of thing. I don't know it's like it's it's it changes like there's the two big goals that i can't really say like say goals. I know that they're jubal there's two things out there. I would love to design a sneaker at some point just whether it be a color way. Or i get big enough to get back collab- And then a vinyl thirteen size thirteen. Okay eleven and a half anybody's looking for for my my partner's very mad about that and then and then a vinyl toy There's a few sketches and a few designs. I have for vile toy And i'm interested in getting that three d. printed in the next like year and start doing prototypes for that. But that's that's a long. It's a long process as long expensive process. So it's like i dabble in little projects and like little little goals that i think are like big achievements for me as an artist and it takes like a year eighteen months and it's like that slow slow process it's it's almost like like different milestones. Have you been listening to what you're describing a kind of some thing. That i have and i think about what i do really an artistic way. Which is kinda why. I wanted to do this. This podcast because i think it's is interesting to have conversations with people who are creating who are actively creating and i think one of the things that happens is when you get to that level where you feel that you've hit a goal and you get complacent and then it's just like that's what i do now. And it's like no you right now at three like as i said before i'm doing three different podcasts. And people told me you're out of your mind. Why are you trying to build three different things at the same time because fun because i enjoy doing it and when it comes to any of these things what i wanna do is have something. That's out there that transcend that transcends it whether it be okay doesn't action figure. Oh snap pop of me. This is great. He has gone heart shirt on his amazing. And those are the things that you would feel what i would feel like i this is. This is great. This is something that kinda matters to me. And it meshes with what i'm into. This is satisfying is not what someone else's values or what they a attached to a certain achievement or so certain goal should be. I think it's i mean. I think it's good pressure like with you here in that twelve year. Twelve year anniversary. I've been doing for twelve years like there's there's so much to me like much clout and so much like strength to that that everything to do outside of that..

Are you a little bit? Yeah, the friends and family discount on the Costco size jug of textual healing, But it's really just Vassily or whatever. Tell us a little bit about the situation that you're dealing with. And how we can help heal You textually, of course. A few months ago. I Well, I kind of ended up stealing my friend's boyfriend. What did you say? Gently you say feeling stealing, stealing feeling, But it was an accident. In a way. How is it an accident? Well, it all started at the party that we were at, so he was complaining about their relationship with my friend. And so I was giving him advice. And, you know, helping him out. And you know, next thing I knew we were hooking up. You're like my fault. It all happened. Why are you acting so innocents in that It was advice? Yeah. Let me give you advice. It's called my tongue. Yeah, Okay, So it just happened Really fast. And like I hear what you're all saying, Like, I was totally stupid about it. But then After like we were really connected. And so we decided to start dating each other, we Whoa, Wait. What? When did you break up? Okay. Wait first. Hang up. I'm sorry, but this is awful. Hold on. So guy, this is your friend. You hooked up with her boyfriend, and then you and the boyfriend started dating. Yeah. Okay. When did your friend find out about all of this? We decided to tell her together. Oh, God even work. This'd different because we've had people on the show before who said that They had a moment of weakness, and they accidentally hooked up with a friend's boyfriend or friends, girlfriend, but to actually start dating afterwards, that means that you had to think about it and agree to go through with that. You guys don't really paint a good picture of this. I mean, I already told you that. You know I was. I was being stupid about the whole right where he's called, too. Oh, like what Jeff is saying is that yes, There's a moment of weakness and of idiotic see that it happened in the moment, whatever, but then to continue. The relationship is a very well thought out choice. Then you're saying to your friend like your friendship doesn't mean anything to me like this is more important. That's a bigger betrayal. I mean, after we told her, she kind of turned away from me, and so I just felt like alone. And so then he was there for me during the break up of that friendship. Well, and so it just felt like it was meant to be. It was her fault that you had to follow it to the arms of her boyfriend's e could see what she's saying that she felt like she didn't have anywhere else to turn except to the guy that was willing to have her. No, no, I want to be an attractive I mean, okay, Terrible friends like your program. Okay, Brooke, I'm hooking up with someone's boyfriend makes you a terrible friend is also a listener, too. Work shows. So thank you. I support your decisions way. Where you at today? What is going on? Okay, So it's been two months and it didn't work out with him. Shocker. I'm sorry. I'm sorry for your loss. No, that's that does stink. Yeah, it just felt like everything was turning out to just be about him. And now looking back. I know that it was wrong of May and so I reached out to try to reconnect. And get back to where we were before, And I sent her this really long apology and I haven't heard back from her. It's been a week since you sent that text to your friend. Yeah, And so I don't know. What do I do? What do I say to get her toe? Respond to me. Okay, well, this is happening. I just googled it. And there's a survey by the website. Plenty of fish. Okay. They analyze 60,000 messages to see which words are the most likely to successfully start a conversation with a woman. We're not looking for. Eddie. Try to be friends. No, this is just a word that gets women to respond. What would they found calling Woman beautiful in a tax man. Such leads to a conversation almost half the time. That was so very beautiful, right? Because you're hitting on them. But I don't text Alexis and I'm like, good more. Hey, you okay, Brooke? Okay. Hovering above the toilet may cause hernia or UTI

"Potentially serious injury in the er family is working with a patient advocate to try to negotiate the bill since it seems like just a little too much to pay for a quick exam a nap and a bottle of formula but the advocate thanks to family will be lucky if they can get the bill down to fourteen grand the next time you baby falls down hits his head stone rushed to the hospital you can work it out on your own i guess that is the message and actually just out of hygiene headquarters ever been in a public bathroom taking one look at the toilet seat and realized there was no way you're going to sit down on that filthy little thing well according to experts it actually might be worse for your health to hover above the toilet seat in the just plop down right on top of the grossness here's why researchers say that when you hover and makes the muscles in your abs back legs and pelvic area really tents that makes it harder for you to go to the bathroom so you have to push harder and if you do that enough you can wind up with a hernia some toilets i'd take a hernia for the was going to say i'd rather have a hernia than some of the things that i think these toilet seats have plus it might mean that you don't empty your bladder completely and that can lead to urinary tract infections but if you just sit on the toilet it's very unlikely that you would catch anything very unlikely still likely a very unlikely actually sit on most public toilets i mean my best friend's nurse practitioners like i've never seen anybody died from it my mom always taught me that it dries it dies and there you go if you're going to catch an intestinal disease it's probably going to be from having little particles of feces on your hands and then touching your food or your face wash those hands so if the nasty toilets bacteria touches the backs of your sweet little lies you probably won't get sick so don't hover anymore chance yeah toilet all wet like please stop doing that you guys if we all just sit down and really really solve the problems gotta get in there and get a little dirty we're like this that sound of a turtle humping issue that means the laser stories has come for today wednesday yeah yes that's correct brandnew loser.
