"With more on life after Juan Soto and Josh bell. Baseball's a funny puzzling game. Bottom of the 8th inning, the long balloons large as the nationals lead the New York Matt's 5 one they've hit three homers, Luis Garcia's two run shot in the 6th giving them the lead back. He also opened up the scoring with an RBI double, and that's also get a gem that's in 5 scoreless innings from rookie starter Corey Abbott, met's getting their run on a Francisco Lindor Homer while two time Cy Young winner Jacob de Grom strikes out 6 over 5 innings in his 2022 debut he won't get the win though tonight. The nationals do lead 5 one in the 8th inning. And the deal sending Soto and bell to San Diego netted the Nats a total of 6 players, Mike Rizzo today, not worried about being the man in history named as the guy who traded a generational 23 year old talent like Soto. Yeah, I was a guy who signed him too. And I'll remember one as the guy who was with me when I won my first World Series as a general manager. And now I'm looking to do my next one. Okay, but our own Sean Anderson said in the DMV download, this could be D.C.'s answer to Boston's 86 year curse of the bambino. Today, it's the curse of the childish bambino. "You could see him everywhere, and they'll be network New York Post. You name it he's there John Heyman, John. How you been, man. It's been way too long since I've heard your lovely, lovely voice, or we got to talk a lot of baseball trade deadline coming up, man. Well, I'm not sure how lovely it is, but great to talk to you, Cody, and let's get with it. Yeah, let's do it. The first domino has officially dropped and it's going to the Met Daniel vogelbach or as I like to refer to him as Vogel unit just the most awesome player I love to play against or see play. He's just, he hammers right, he's he's a good platoon player. He's got some serious pop. Obviously it's not going to be the last move the mets are going to make or try to make I should really say who knows who they actually end up with, but your thoughts on this vocal block move and the first domino to fall in the trade deadline with all the names that are starting to be bantered around. Yeah, I mean, they needed a hitter and quick and they got one. So I give them credit, you know, vocal buck will or vocal back. If you prefer, we'll fit in nicely. They needed that left handed DH, obviously Don Smith had not done what he had done a couple of years ago with the team. You know, they try to start it with Robinson Cano. It looked like the mets had a lot of DHS to begin the year and really none of them have really produced Pete Alonso give him credit. He's doing it alone in that middle of that lineup and vocal back will help there's still looking for another middle of the order bat though and I'm sure that they will get it eventually. And there are names out there. Especially seeing how the Red Sox have started their second half a couple of names in the Red Sox are being thrown around the mets of interest and what are you hearing about the idea of JD Martinez potentially being moved. And if so, is there another team that would be as high on him as the mets would be? Well, like the idea of JD Martinez, there's nothing concrete yet. We don't know that the Red Sox are going to be a seller. They're kind of in that middle ground right now. I would not be surprised if they do sell. So add them to the list, the list is pretty good. Obviously, Josh bell, they've talked about Trey Mancini they talked about. You've got Nelson Cruz, you got CJ Crone, you know, Wilson Contreras, potentially in hep there are a lot of good hitters on the market that's one thing that there is supply another thing, of course, is bullpen, but certainly there are hitters starting pitching in short supply, but the mets of fortunate, they don't look like they're going to need starting pitching. They do look like they need to hit her and they do look like they need bullpen. So it's falling into place nicely for them, although right now they've not been able to make a deal on pill or they've tried for yet and Mancini we're not sure that he's going to be traded at this point, Baltimore has been a little bit of a surprise. So give them credit and, you know, with no guarantee he will be dealt, but I think it's still a pretty good chance that he will be dealt. Yeah, you mentioned that Baltimore. I mean, they're currently 48 and 48. They're three and a half out of a wild card spot. And we're even talking about the Red Sox. You just mentioned the Red Sox are potentially a team that could be sellers. They're kind of on the fence and whether or not they're going to be sellers or not. And they are only up a half game on the Orioles. So that's why I'm a little surprised that the Orioles seem to be hot on moving Mancini. Do you think that's going to happen or do you think the Orioles might be willing to throw their hat in the ring and maybe adding on and maybe competing a little bit for this potential extra wildcard spot? Yeah, I mean, it's too early to be sure. We still have a week to go, you know, these things go down to the wire and Baltimore, no reason for them not to take it to the wire with this, as you said there, right there with the Red Sox, not the Red Sox or has fire, but give Baltimore credit. They're having a terrific year, they're bullpen outstanding. They got a good top of that lineup and lately Matteo and a couple others have added to that Rhea. So, you know, I would say I'd be surprised if they movement seen in the next couple days, but I would say by the end of this deadline, I still think it's a good chance that they do trade him. What about you mentioned Josh bell? And he's a very interesting name out there. And he's an interesting name for multiple reasons. One of which he's obviously a good bat to have, a first baseman that could possibly move into the outfield on occasions, but on top of that, he also plays for the nationals and Juan Soto's name is obviously at the top of everybody's list right now. Could you see a potential of them being packaged together with a team or is this a thing where Juan Soto is only going to be going by himself and Josh bell will likely go elsewhere? Well, you never want to say never. We saw a trick Turner in Max Scherzer, the two probably the two best players on last year's market package together, but I mean, in this case, they're both great hitters, so I would say they're going to be separate bells going to command quite a bit, but obviously Soto's going to command many, many, many times more than that. He's just one of the best players in the game. And you know, I think we know the teams that are involved certainly we're talking about the mets, the mets would love to get Soto, but you know, I just don't see the naps trading one photo in their division. I know there's going to be more of a balanced schedule going forward, but I don't think they want to see them with the mets. So they'd have to pay a premium. And I just don't see the mets doing that. Bill more realistic for them. They have made an offer or two or more a bill still haven't been able to come together on that yet, but I would say separately for those two guys, but good for the mets that there are many, many hitters on this market. You know, I think San Diego is looking for hitting Milwaukee's looking for hitting a few other teams maybe looking for hitting. But I think it's better positioned to be in the look for a big hitter than a big starting pitcher at this point. Yeah, and you mentioned San Diego. They're a team that very much intrigues me going forward in this trade deadline for multiple reasons. One of which they have some needs, they're not playing their best baseball right now. They may, we don't know this for sure yet, but they may be losing Mackenzie gore for a little bit of time, which would not be ideal for the team. And they have not been swinging the bat well lately, and they're still waiting on Fernando Tatís Jr.. They also have a lot of prospects, a lot of prospects and AJ preller is not afraid to trade away anything. He's made that abundantly clear over the past 7 years. How realistic it is it for that team to wind up with Juan Soto come trade deadline. Yeah, I mean, I do think there's a decent chance that happening. They were the first team that I thought of and wrote about when this became a possibility that one sort of was out there on the market. I mean, obviously AJ pillar was aggressive. He identified one so early on as a guy that he wanted when he was an amateur and soda was an amateur player.

"So Jeff, I have summoned you here because there is a trade that is being talked about across all of baseball. That is unprecedented that nobody has ever seen in a sport that has existed for over a century. And the guy at the center of it is Juan Soto, a guy that you know well. I got you profiled on this show before. And I just need you to explain for people who don't know him as well. How good is he, exactly? Juan Soto Pablo is Kevin Durant. Soto right field. See you later. Soto. This poll is destroyed. Wow. Juan Soto is Patrick Mahomes. This ball is crushed bangs on those one Soto. He is young. He is so preternaturally talented, so incredible. It all facets of the game, but especially at the most important for an offensive player, which is hitting the baseball, hitting it really hard, having an incredible eye at the plate. He is everything you want in a young hitter. And he's only 23 years old. I'm gonna throw a comparison out, please. For Juan Soto and call me a blasphemer, call me whatever you want. Juan Soto is Ted Williams. Damn. And so the price, Jeff, the price for a 23 year old Ted Williams. How do you describe what the cost might be here? I'm gonna use the words of a general manager with whom I spoke minutes after Juan Soto turned down a not just record contract for Major League Baseball, but a contract extension offer from the Washington Nationals Pablo that would have made him the highest guaranteed money paid player in North American professional sports history. I said to this general manager, what is it going to take to get Juan Soto and his answer was it's going to be a Herschel Walker trade. And if you have any knowledge of football history, the package that Herschel Walker was traded for. Was the single greatest package in the history of sports. And one that spawned the Dallas Cowboys dynasty of the 1990s. Right. And so that's what the Washington Nationals are hoping for here. If in fact, they do decide to move him that they're going to be able to put their franchise for the next decade in a far better position than it is now on the strength of this one deal alone. In other words, Jeff, the price for Juan Soto is pretty much everything. As it should be. The MLB trade deadline is one week away exactly. And right now, everyone is trying to win a prize that is pretty much never up forbids. But acquiring Juan Soto, The Crown jewel of the Washington Nationals, is even more complicated than it looks, because this story isn't just about a generational slugger with two and a half years left on his contract. It is also about a billionaire who is about to sell what is currently the worst team in baseball. And also the most feared agent in the game. So today, Jeff passon tells us about a young superstar that he knows as well as anybody. And the race to make Juan Soto the first half of $1 billion athlete. In North American sports. I Pablo Torre. It is Tuesday, July 26th.

"What I would say to that is three. 25. Yeah, but Juan Soto as great a player as Deborah's is. He is a great offensive player. There is no question about that. Soto is a generational talent and Hall of Fame. He's a griffey esque impact on your team. I guess, yeah, at that point, I would say, why don't you why didn't you pay Devers and bogarts? Right? Well, I mean, because bogarts is getting older. He's approaching 30. And Juan Soto is he is a Ted Williams. He is a Mickey Mantle. He is a Ken griffey junior. You name it. He is that kind of generational talent. All right, fair enough. So yeah, I guess that would work. The other thing we're so factors into me is if he does get dealt and what does he get dealt for? If he goes for an absolute hall and normally you don't see these kind of deals at the deadline. Normally you see him in the off season. We like to correct. That's good. I'm really happy. But let's say Soto goes for hall. Let's say you're sitting three or four games out of playoff spot at that point. I think you have to consider moving bogarts at least. Because we are seems as good as gone at this point. And I don't know that Beau verz is getting you as much as Soto, but if Soto goes in some team sees that as oh wow, contenders are really loading up, right? Let's say Soto goes to the mets. Every team in the NL is going to react to the yandel's probably more open than the AL. You know, I think the team like to braise is a pretty good farm system. Could you send them to the braves? The Phillies are kind of making a push here. I think you have to consider it. It's soda doesn't go. I don't know that you force it. I think Bogart's has more value in the off season. So I guess you can't sorry, let me take that back. I got my timeline mixed up. You can't move forward or something else since he's going to opt out. Yes, I think if Soto goes in the gets a hall, I think you have to consider moving bogarts. Devers, I still think you take that one down to the stroke of midnight and try to figure out if there's a way to get him back, even if you think he's gone. As much as it hurts, I think you have to think about moving bogarts if you know you're not going to respond. What if you move bogarts endeavors and your top two prospects? For

"And you know, the perspective of Soto's camp is that, you know, they lock them up and enhances the value of the team and that's what they're trying to do. There's no doubt about it. We've seen. And I think the kind of the idea of free agents getting paid more, as you mentioned, Bryce Harper got, I think it was said 25, what was 5, four years ago, 5 years ago now, it free agency. We saw kind of a change in how teams operate it. When Fernando cited his scientist big deal at such a young age, he also saw the kid in Tampa sign his big deal at such a young age. I don't know that the free agency line doesn't work anymore. I think if we have your young talent, young talent like a Soto, a tatis, it seems like the idea now is to pay them early and get all of his prime years and you're paying them top dollar during that time. Those guys are rare. There's not a whole bunch of them out there, but I do think the philosophy has changed in Major League Baseball. So it sounds like the nationals and it probably has to do with the fact that they're going to sell this team are a little bit behind the times, if you will, and listen, for the outside looking in, you kind of hit on it. Window dressing. That's how it appeared to me the whole time, right? Because, you know, he seems like a pretty private dude, doesn't want to do this out in public. And it seems like every time there's been some type of offer, it has made its way to the public eye. And I'm sure that does sit well either, but it is a business we get it. John, let's talk a little bit about last night. Home run Derby. Once again was, I think, to the liking of all the viewers who are watching. It was a good competition. And ironic. It's not really ironic, but Juan solo also won that one that competition as well. And pretty big fashion. Yeah, I mean, I used to really load the home run Derby. They've made it much better than that with the time rather than the swings. I think that really enhanced it. Speeds it up too, by the way. Yeah, take folks. Right, exactly. I know. I felt like I was leaving in the middle of the afternoon here, of course. We're in Los Angeles, so I'm not used to the early start. I love it. I should probably move out here and join you if you got room in your house. I think I'll do it. I got four kids. I don't know if I have enough. Oh my God, good for you. I mean, Julio Rodriguez, you know, he really stole the show. Fantastic. You know a lot of us don't get to see him very often, incredible talent as well. Only 21 years old and as so often happens, the guy who steals the show doesn't end up winning it, but Soto, the big name in the news is the guy who does win it terrific young man. I think we all believe that. I know some people probably annoy they didn't take this big amount of money, but he's going to do better. Let's face it, he's going to do better. He's the man of the hour. He's where all the news is and I think right now you all start game obviously since we talk is coming, but the trade, the potential trade of Soto, I mean, that's really what's on everybody's mind at this moment and whether we'll be traded here and who we will be traded to. You know, I had a list of ten candidates who could acquire him and, you know, I didn't even include St. Louis in Seattle and now they're kind of whispers like, you know, they've got the prospects, maybe they could do it. You know, the nets are going to be looking for major league talent. So that's going to make things very difficult and very interesting. I will say the mets not too likely in the same division. They don't want to see Soto there for at least another two and a half years and with Steve Cohn there probably another 15 years. I don't think they're too likely, obviously you'll see the big market teams, the Yankees, the Dodgers, involved some degree, the big gambling teams that have some money, San Diego, Texas, probably their involved too, but it's going to be very interesting. I personally think it's going to be very difficult. I've been told it's like a Durant trade and a Durant trade on a deadline. Not easy. So we shall see, but that's certainly one of the big stories right now over the old star game. Yeah, I mean, the moment you mentioned San Diego's name and your New York Post article. Oh my gosh. This place has been it's been just coming up with all kinds of different trade ideas

"Red 6 15 now time for Dave Johnson. Hey, home run Derby All-Star Game all that's fun stuff and Juan Soto will be a part of both, but after the break of serious business, Soto's future with the nationals reportedly turned down a 15 year $440 million contract over the weekend, trade deadline is coming up August 2nd. And for basically baseball network cliff Floyd, now is the time to make a deal. I think it just makes sense to do it right now and move on. I think Mike Rizzo has never been afraid of any trade. And to pull off a deal, my rhythm was like, all right, you forcing us now to put you out there. And then them to reap the benefits of losing a superstar player. So you have to literally back up every prospect from one to 5 in your organization. And then give us two major league ready type ball players. That's on your roster. Making note of that. So home run Derby today. First round paired against Cleveland's José Ramírez won Soto Homer is the nationals beat the braves yesterday 7 to three to end the 9 game losing streak.
