Rizzo homers twice on his bobblehead night, Yankees beat Rays 6-5

"The Yankees handed the race just a tenth loss of the season coming from behind for a 6 5 victory. Anthony Rizzo's second home run of the game, a two run shot in the bottom of the 8th off Jason Adam, gave New York the win. Tampa Bay had grabbed the 5 four lead in the top of the 8th when Josh slow hit a three run Homer. Anthony volpe also homered and drove in two runs for the yanks. They're really good team, but we can stack up with anyone. And as long as we play that type of way and keep proving it, nobody besides ourselves, I feel like we're going to be able to put together these types of games. Juan de Peralta sealed it with his first save of the year. Tom, New York.

"During these four days of exhibition games on ESPN. Rabby how you doing? I'm doing great and caught me sort of the middle post workout. So if I apologize for the sweat, but I'm doing great. And it was a rare drive home from spring training game versus fly. So that helped. Yeah, I gotta tell you, my drive to Tampa last night, I just was so excited about everything that we saw this week. The conversations that took place, you know, the broadcast that we got to do. It was just a lot of fun. What was your takeaway from these four days? Yeah, look, I still believe firmly that baseball is in for a historic massive year. It's going to be wildly successful. I think it's going to take a little while for people to actually realize how different the game is until you attend one or watch one on TV, but yesterday buster, I saw video of, I think it was Juan de Peralta, struck a guy out in 20 seconds and they were in yesterday when Alex Cora wore that headset and there was a one two three inning. I'm guessing that half spinning, you know, took three minutes and I just want to guard against people thinking we're trying to rush this thing away, which we're not, you know, we love the game as much as everybody watching it, but part of the new reality is when a pitcher is on and a bullpen is good and both teams have that. You're going to see a two hour game. You're going to see an hour and 55 minute baseball game. It's very different, you know, than what we're used to, but be ready, you know, kind of strap your seatbelt on because it is going to move and there's a lot of action and all that, but I'm really delighted by what we saw and it feels to me. You tell me, but the shift pitch clock are the two biggest things, the disengagement

"So you never know it could happen again. We might just flip on our TVs for the World Series and find out that actually it's best the night. But I don't think so. This would be a bad year for that because we're already going deep with the late start to the season. Well, and so stressful for me because I'd be like, I need someone to write gamers. Yeah. So in the ALCS, the Astros are up one zip. And they did it, and I guess a pretty ASTRO's way. The ester is like, we praise their pitching previously and they manage to sweep the Mariners, even though Justin burr was rocked in his start, which was weird because his late season starts. It was like he was allowing no hits and half of them it seemed like and lots of hits and lots of runs to the Mariners, and then they won that game anyway. But in this game, against the Yankees, he was good again, and he struggled a little, and then he settled down and was good after that. There was yet another Harrison Bader Homer. I think it must be like a reverse Sampson situation where he cut his hair and got more power, possibly. So he had another Homer, but there was not a lot of Yankees offense in this game because there was good Astros pitching again and so it was a four two final. There were some people a bit up in arms or up in arms about the arms that Aaron Boonen had elected to use in this game. Because it seems like Boone just like, there are only a few pictures he really wants to use right now. Which I get like he's missing a good number of the arms that he relied on throughout the season. And so now it was almost like he was auditioning other candidates for weight ending work. It's like, how about you? How about Frankie montas? You haven't pitched it a really long time. Could you be like a great lady? Maybe not. Clark Schmidt, how about you? Maybe Clark Schmidt, okay. He hasn't really used Lu trevino a lot, which is odd because he's been pretty good as Yankee. So yeah. So he was okay in this game. Schmidt, not as much Montana as much. So that was it basically, but you know, I guess you can't, you just want to be Peralta in every game. No. Probably did too. Yes, but yeah, because there's potential, again, for a lot of games to happen on consecutive days in this series. It's just it's weird that Juan de Peralta is like you're shut down guy for this team. Necessarily see that coming. But he's the guy who was, I guess, kind of the de facto closer now. And then you've got clay homes as long as his shoulder holds up. There's just not a lot like advantage Astros when it comes to the pitching. So yeah. And

"The Yankees have lost three straight gains for just the second time this season you have to improbable loss to the reds four to three The axe led three zero going to the 9th as clay Holmes came into close it out with an ERA under half a run of game But Holmes quickly unraveled giving up two hits a walk and two hit batsman as the reds crawl to within three to two Juan de Peralta came in and got two outs but then Jonathan India lined a two run single to give the reds the lead and an unlikely victory Unbelievable win I think it's our best one of the year She has a lot of fight in who we are What kind of team we are I'm just happy you can do it We did it with this group because it's doesn't stop fighting ever Cincinnati is now one 5 straight games Tom New

"You did not pitch well But i'm wondering early enough to get him back out there for socks of. Yeah he only pitched. I think to third the red sox have not announced starter But lemme. I'm gonna pull up of all. That's what i meant. I because i didn't see the the announcement of evolved yet. All the twenty ninth. So yes oh. Yeah he's lined up and they were having. I have somebody's who were a red sox fan and they were talking about the the debate in boston morning. Sports is chris sale or nathan vall de for the ball in game one. That's a. That's a conversation that i don't think i did not think would ever happen in a million. You know what's happening. Yeah because chris sale is not the same guy right now. He's back from surgery. He's got decent numbers but yeah he's not. The same guy is coming back from surgery in all these been their best pitcher consistently all year. We're talking pitching matchup. Who has the advantage. Obviously the yankees have the advantage and the exit of the advantage in the bullpen. Some of the things of piece together a bullpen. That i actually have a lot more confidence in now than i did a week and a half two weeks ago the wise it goes back and looks like he's all right which is great news. Chad green still scares me a little bit. Better lee scared me today. Though he's runner there was a run around second base. That was a frigate pissed. Missile out to right field. That was hit rate a judge it would have been a run and severino. Severino didn't pitch in the series so he didn't pitch since thursday so i was kind of surprising given inning at some point this this weekend. Yeah me too because a guy like that. Who's coming back you know. They've been messing around with his pitch count and the amount of innings that we we talked about that last episode. You'd think they want to keep him consistent with the way that he's coming out of there. So i don't know maybe they. Maybe they believe rest is a better thing than the consistency. And that's you know that's what his body needs at this point. But juan de peralta pitch today and luis severino. Did that's a problem. It was a must win game. That's a problem we want you for those good. I like one. You also got a lot of heart if we're talking. Moxie bullpen pecking order. One role pecking order. There's no both pecking order at this point. Who's who's who's rolling out. That bullpen pecking order a guy. That order means chapman that it's elisa then. It's probably chad green but it should be separate. Then it's luis severino then it's klay homes then it's then it's probably lucas leaky. Then it's probably one of the peralta. And then i think it might be. Michael king i think i think per authors higher than Again he will use peralta in a in a situation where there's a tough lefty and then draw you pitch to talk to anybody but if he's starting to get one particular guy out on the from the left hand side. I could see him going in there but i. I do believe that the you're right. They've put together furthest wildcard game. Because that's over talking about at this point. They've put together an arsenal out there. And i think it's actually a big strength so if we see cold struggling at any point. They're not going to be. They're not gonna let ian garrett gary a guy you'd let work through it to a to an extent right now not in this particular game with what they have in the bullpen and everybody will be ready to go. Also it's i think a big part of the reason why you're not going to have dirt coal push. It is because of how he's pitched for a month if he's been if garrett cole was pitching like he was in april. And may i don't care who in the bullpen. I don't want anyone pitching other than garrett cool but that's not the same guy right now right. And that's why i think that if he gets into. I think he's control early. That's what i'm watching the the first thing. I'm watching insist control. And how how. He's you said that the the red sox might go deep into account or that's how you know he'll get into trouble on the fifth inning with a high pitch count if he's getting to a high pitch count and not aggressive around the strike zone early then. I think it's going to be tough sale. Tough sledding for him. I think that's I'm watching the first. You see able to throw the ball over the plate when he wants it Are they making contact with the ball. If they're if they're if they're make contact with the ball over the plate in the first inning he might be in for a long day but so peppering zone and they're trying to be aggressive early because they see something and they know they gotta jump on him because if they get behind the counter. That's that's the sign when you know that going well. Does this sound.

"Right but then how and why are they reeling it from the dugout. If they pick something up then they just have to tell the hitter oh his gloved dips when he's gonna throw an off speed pitch so just look for. That doesn't need whistle every single time from the dugout. The only time you signal from the dugout is when you're getting something the better can't see like houston that's a good point so if you're whistling from the dugout that and they haven't given the actual tell and why something is happening then yet you're you're you're not wrong there so there. There could be some some muddiness of how that happened if that is the case but where i don't think they were relaying information i don't think juan de peralta was relaying information about walkers tipping if so then what do you think then you think all the shit no no. I don't think. I mean he s. He was whistling. Okay but i don't think he was probably was not whistling to steal signs because again like you said how would they have stolen. The i mean. I guess you can't put it past them to have technology that is now like that now. Major league baseball to know about but they don't normally opposing ballpark. They're not they no longer but they no longer have access to the replay room like they used to so it would have to be from someone all takeout telescope from another building or it literally have to be from someone outside of the clubhouse being like hey we figured this out gets the information into the clubhouse but then why juan de peralta the one doing at it's just hand signals from the bullpen. Although i'm not gonna put it past 'cause like who who would have thought that the astros were slamming trash cans and look what they were doing. So yeah i'm not gonna put it past anyone to cheat especially major league baseball players. Because they're a bunch of fucking cheaters however he was whistling the mets were mad about. That's why he came out. There addressed it. They they did. There was a a visit to the mound that was clearly about something that was happening. He shut the shut them down so maybe he was tipping in the batteries. Were figuring it out. And that's why they hit the three home runs and then he shut them down. So here's here's the thing. Here's a scenario that could happen. I wanna lay it out a little bit because people are immediately go to the cheating thing clearly like obviously we're conditioned for that now with what the the astros have done to us. When i say us i mean baseball in baseball fans. But if you have a guy that's out there getting rattled getting tipping his pitches and the yankees. What it is then. You have another guy who just whistling his ass off just being freaking annoyed just trying to be distracting distracting distracting. Because we know that he's tipping his pitches so we don't want that to stop. We want that's gonna stop. That's gonna stop the birdie. i mean. They they scored five runs scored five runs on him. So if you figure out someone's tell in poker you don't tell them you figured out his tear. Ub as obvious as possible where they think you think you know. And now you're playing mind games. And he gave up five home runs or five runs. Three home runs right. You let him continue to pitch the same way so you can continue to hit him. You don't start whistling from the dugout. Which is obviously going to get. The opposing team's attention. And then they're going to say what's going on. Why are they whistling. Yeah maybe or maybe you think that when he goes back into the dugout they're gonna they're gonna rectify the situation anyway. Let's get as much as we can. I'm throwing shit out there because clearly they were trying to be distracting and it was working if they were not tipping pitches. I'm sorry if they were not signaling. Pitches back to the batter with a whistle but no one will ever admit that in a million years ever because they know is against the written rules. Why do you think this team never gets the last laugh. Because they're not gets coincident. Good at executing. I think yeah. I mean that's probably what it comes down. That's a given up. How many home at the end of the game. How many what's his win. We don't look look at win loss records for starting pitchers but when you look at it for a relief pitcher that consistently comes in and from the seventh inning on and you have losses. I don't care so high profile loan saves to. Yes you're probably right. It's lack of execution. That ultimately is the reason that you'd think of eventually one of these is gonna go the yankees way. Even if you don't execute you'll get lucky once or twice and they haven't been lucky and it's yes lack of execution. I also think there are mentally soft team. I also say we're conveniently you're looking at these moments that are convenient. They've had triple plays in the past eighth had they did sweep. Toronto onto a key chemo. Things talking about key moments. That could be that. That are like last night with linda ornstein or like in houston when aaron judge mock Jose altuve right talking about these types of key moments that they fail after these moments happen. Not talking about just turning triple plays or coming back or winning. Thirteen zero talking about key..

"I i really feel like that. An unreported Underreported and You know under the radar injury that has had much bigger impact than i think. People realize jonathan low is going down for the yankees. What do you think absolutely. I mean i just really think it exposes that bullpen. And you know we've seen andrew heaney pitching. Even in baba appearances i think far more than yankees fans or anyone would expect to see him in there and you know with the bullpen. it's just such a ripple effect. I mean not having a guy who so important around the eighth inning. If you're winning a game likewise go and again with how chapman has looked might have been getting more of those chances in the closer role just brings and more and more guys. You don't necessarily want to see a narrow mean klay. Homes has been really good for the yankees. But it's thirteen appearances. I mean it don't know that he's not necessarily going to continue to do that. And if you look at their bullpen. You look at the names that are in there. It's just mean. Juan de peralta has been better than i ever expected him to be for them. But i just don't think you can be relying on guys like that when you're fighting for a playoff spot and as i was mentioning there on the downturn here but not when you're running up against an offense like the toronto blue jays you know we saw homes last night. Come in and get a couple outs. And then the you know the blue jays score run. it's it's gonna be difficult for them. And my friend bill chuck. Who's a loyal listener writes in the dodgers loss of. Aj pollick like the yankees lost civil wise. Agca therefore supply cody bellinger. Every day of the last fifteen days dodgers dating to five last in the majors leaving the pitching staff no room for. I think he's right. Sarah what do you think. Absolutely i mean when you mentioned to me before you wanna talk about politics. The first thing i did was pull up. Cody bellinger page. Because it really forces them to play him as bill saying there and you know a couple weeks ago. I think we had dave roberts basically saying that bellinger was going to be a platoon player. He's not able to do that anymore. Because pollick is out cody bellinger season. I mean i. I share this. I've looked at this so much. I can't figure. I can explain to you what's going on and i can explain to you why that means he's bad but i don't understand why what's going on is going on. I don't know if that makes sense but it's just so hard to look at a guy who was mvp caliber for a decent longtime enough to establish himself and see him not hitting the ball hard not making good contact whatsoever. I mean. I talked to you about these expected stats every now and then he is in the second person tile in expected batting average about is all the way it is blue on the top of the pages. Not what you want to see. Second person talents by two batting average a two one expected batting average that means that based on the contact. He's making he should be hitting about to a one. Usually i look to those for an optimistic view. Hey you know what. He's making better contact than he than he is getting results for. He's going to turn around. That is not the surround cody bellinger and having to put him out there every day. It's really really hurting them. Yeah and they're imposing pitchers in in big spots or just sat. Here you go. I'm gonna throw ninety five mile an hour top of the zone and you can't get to it because your swing so messed up all right. Sarah thanks for doing this. Travel about star bleacher.

Otherwise you're dumping alberta brave no thank you again. He's been a borderline closer for like two and a half three weeks now. Lucas leaky. no thanks. Don't want to get rid of him. Juan de peralta hasn't given up neurons since coming back from the i l. joey. Rector years has been great. So i mean bottom. Line tyler wade. Velazquez and nestor and heaney related the foremost removable names on the roster. And esther's going to get a playoff start in corey. Kluber is coming back unless they decide. He's not maybe they decide. He's not maybe reno is probably coming back for a bullpen. Roll down the stretch. But maybe they decide he's not i mean there's no way there's gonna work out lewis. He'll is not currently on the roster. I will remind you are best starter over the last ever weeks. Not on the roster. He's been co up and down roller coaster replacement for everybody upset by the fact that he keeps losing his rosters. This is why because there's currently no available roster spots Again not the worst problem to have the worst problem to have. Is our oster sucks. There's twenty roster spots. What do we do with them. It's called the baltimore orioles corollary. it's like oh my god there's so many roster spots we don't have a single player who's worth it. What what do we do. Not the worst thing in the world to be the hottest team in major league baseball on contending with an overstuffed rosser with unexpected contributors. But atas earn boyd. "With an urgency. They're playing together and really is in craig. He'd never does it on the phone with the afternoon. Guys i rinse and repeat these things. How pumped up are you. How disappointed how loose. Maybe i shouldn't be coffee. Yeah right exactly all right. They went tower heavy at the top last night yet. Luke void as the leadoff man. He did a two run double in this game. And how would you describe this lineup with all the weapons right now back. That's what we call a big boys up top giancarlo attack on solo homer. To right in the eighth on the mound. Jamison town was in cruise control into the six. Then he faltered. Juan de peralta cleaned up the trouble. They're still good enough to pick up his seven straight win shirt yet for goal-line. I'm sure they're working on that today. Goal-line package pre-game by the way. Yeah yeah they go. Chad green did get the save. Even though we gave up a home run to begin to know in the ninety seven straight wins for the yanks. They'll try to make it eight this evening. Nestor court says junior opposed by rookie. Left-hander charlie barnes. We got pregame on the fan and the aussie app. Once again begins at six the on this year. Not again obliterate the longest streak in the history of your boy. Bruce beck kind of asked the question along those lines which i will bring to you next hour. Similar line of the greatest team ever assembled kind of well didn't the rockies back in two thousand and seven lynn hurdle like finish the year on twenty seven game winning here. They went to the world series. Yeah that was timber. Yeah they had that wild september. I believe so it's happened. He missed by the red sox. Well we looked god. Jesus eddie and allen helped me the indians right couple years ago. Twenty two straight. Yeah since we're not counting the giants from nineteen older whenever the brooklands said yet me sick i heard that too. I know the way. I thought pat was good. I'll give you a little bit. I missed whatever that joke was you guys. They were talking about the new names for the washington football team. Yeah and he didn't like washington football team in the caller said. Well people call the giants. The new york football giants and pat was like well. That's because the baseball giants were also playing in brooklyn at the time and they had and it was like all the old baseball overnight. Listen there's like six of them passed away when he said that you guys manage to find like the one mistake he made because he will tell you what was good. He was sharply highly. No we were just having fun he was. I'll i'll save it for leaving some positive things to say about it. That's all that's all. I'll leave it. I'm not gonna crush him today. Adults nothing across the brooklyn. that's fine. hey we got on the other person for the wrong dead yankee. That's not quite the same and you didn't name that person so all right all right raising the score now right raise beat the orioles again. Seven two two. That's fifteen straight losses for baltimore. And the as beat the white sox five to four so the yankees still one clear of oakland in the wildcard raise. The red sox had the night off their one and a half. Behind the yanks. The dodgers push back their big starters. That meant the mets face. The bullpen game last sunday. La six hits no walks one. Run one extra-base it and another lawsuit balls two strikes pitch swing and a mess strike slider wipes out donald dryden strikes out the side for the save the top of the night as dodgers defeat the vets four to one. It really fits so perfectly streak on top of the great depression. Things are really not going well. Jd davis joining. the drove in the lone run with a fourth-inning double but he also had some awful at bats and he made the throwing error after a diving stop and the fifth dodgers ended up scoring their final runs in that frame. Did you see the close up him. After the throw. Got by alonzo over there at first. He was blaming them. For on. Pete bleep. Yeah now i. I was doing a little research. Forgotten this back in april in chicago cubs. He had the one game with two throwing errors and the second one he kind of without saying it late at pete's feet as well so there's a little dynamic on their some friction Friction well friction friction anyway the momentum they hope to bring with them from san francisco nowhere to be found. We're still confident we're just right there. I mean there's probably maybe one-two-three plays that made the difference in this game once again. One two three four three. We're different right. There is a fine line ceelo between winning and losing. We all know this couple one two three four five place. Oh goodness luis rojo sees it differently had knows he's got a messy situation on his hands. Right now thanks can build up some things and destroy a team. So that's where Leaders of the group know myself to come in and michaud. That doesn't happen here. One in six so far the thirteen game gauntlet now. The opposing pitchers get much better walker. Bueller against carlos carrasco tonight. Remember how poor rasco was his last time out So we'll see fares little better against the dodgers this time. Then you've got max scherzer on saturday and david price on sunday temporary restraining order against dodgers pitcher trevor. Bauer was dissolved by an l a superior court judge yesterday who ruled against a woman's request for a permanent restraining order determined. Bauer did not pose a threat to the twenty-seven-year-old woman who accused him of sexual assaults and that her injuries were not the result of anything. She verbally objected to before or during the encounter. So that is the latest on that situation out there with bauer. We mentioned it. I mean the jets. What can you say about disastrous. Day and green bay. I mean this guy. Carlos laws in every report you read is that he's just been dominating training camp and was ready to thanking him for making better because of the competition level and practice. I mean it. It was one of the storylines. The main storylines coming out of jets camp and of course he tears. Achilles gets corner off the field. Rupture is a rupture. So i mean i i know this guy. He has injury history. I think he has to. Acl tears since he was in like the middle of college one of them was wondering with the bengals early on and he's come back from it he's still just twenty six. There are guys that have come back from the injury but obviously it's a long road ahead for him and then on a lesser note. Not not for this guy. But just because he's not as much of a factor on their defense the zane lewis one of their safeties tours patellar tendon and sprained his acl. His season two is over. So Rough scene for the jets out there on day. "Thirty four pitches to get it done luke. Void giancarlo stanton had the fifth inning. Run-scoring singles put the yanks ahead for good here was voight with susan after game one tense moments in the seventh. But they got it. Done is one of the best players in baseball and You know i got to you. Got a huge. I doubt and then he did. What his nasty stuff does. And i hadn't heard punchy before. Have you heard to talk to me. That's the list now in the same interview with susan hint at what void with later. Say to the media after game two and it was pretty much prompted as well. A defensive play to get. That thirty took lasted over there. Get home satirical right there but as play and You know. I'm just trying to prove to everyone that i'm all round player and i'm a good player so i keep saying you know. I like that. Rizzo who's totally one-dimensional can tell it's really weighing on it but give credit a lot of guys will put the pressure on themselves squeezed the bat too tight. He's having success at the plate. Now so he's responding solve risi's a cat person not a dog person so i thought that was a little weird but anyway next question he and stanton would team up for solo homers in. The nightcap is well to nothing shutout of the socks to leapfrog boston in the wild raised by a single percentage point. Very little offense to speak of other than those solo blast the two teams combined to go over seventeen with runners in scoring position. They stranded a collective sixteen runners rookie. Louise he'll remains unsquashed upon through his first three big league starts. he was lifted with two outs. In the fifth and the basis loaded. Juan de peralta got rothfield diverse to end that threat and then in the six with a couple of runners aboard the line drive off peralta glove deflects to third base and he throws a missile right on targeted. At first i was awesome. Chad green very sharp in the seventh to pick up his fifth. Save here was he'll via interpreter. Marlin abreu he certainly understood the high stake adrenaline tonight. You know I was very excited to face face. Boston You know. They have a really good lineup. And you understand that you cannot make mistakes. Avoided it last week. Chris you were. I think it was you. That was asking the question. I think it was you talking about how he was not a great pitcher in the minor leagues. And yet he's come up here and he's been out saying he was. You was one of us. I forget who well if you looked at the numbers right. Sure poon talk about it if he throws strikes. His stuff plays meredith. Morocco talk to him and he admitted that he was pretty much depressed. Board in the minors. Yeah and felt like he belonged to be in the majors and just didn't have the extra giddy up by saying now he's here and he wants to prove he belongs and i guess he's all into it. Well you see him. he's one of the. He's not one of these flatliners. He gets fired up right. Oh for sure emotion out there on the mound all of a sudden. You're in the bronx restaurant. "He's guy stupid thing that i'm going to like do not on a two thirty in the morning right now. I think you're on at seven o'clock like me more listening. Yeah might want to keep that to himself very good. All right jerry boomer. I'm losing my voice now. All of a sudden here even for hours on friday sounds a little different. I me gets a watering rehydrate. Get this thing moving in the right direction. Each morning show with boomer esiason in gregg giannotti boomer and geo going on. See la hype brought to you by town fair tire. Nobody's town fair tire. Nobody six straight series win for the yankees best record in the american league. Since the all-star very swung on and hit on the air too deep loved his high. It is far does god. It's a two run home run. Oh that boy is a droid blasts at to run home run to left field to give the yankees of four run lead john sterling here on the fan important insurance for the way the back end of the bullpen has been going lately and sure enough. The combo of lucas lipsky and juan de peralta combined. Give up a couple of runs in the bottom of the ninth of peralta. Really did his job. He got a couple of ground but the second one was a game ending. Four three double play as they hold off the white sox five three. Here's aaron booms a really good spirit after tough lawson in in the field of dreams game guys just continue to continue to pound away a little different than thursday night in iowa after the quick turn of events in the ninth left. Boone is stating the obvious about that experience. That ruined it a little bit honestly Typically you know we. Of course it ruined it you lost in the ninth inning off but again they bounce back. They win both games in chicago and on sunday was voight and rubio door with a couple of two run homers together runs. Came across on a brett gardner double coupled with a throwing error from the outfield other than that. A lot of swing and misses yanks cade sixteen times for peace for joey. Gallo and carl. Gosh yoka and they stranded fourteen runners but still found a way. Nestor cortes junior. His first win and over. Two years was fun to watch. He's always fun to watch. But i mean to go six and actually give them what they needed yesterday. Already starting to get stretched out. And he's giving give you ninety eight pitches yesterday. Gave up the one run on a solo homer seven strikeouts. He was certainly pleased. Yeah i mean Very respectable line You know went in there and got job. Done better than will chemo with the w lefty. That's what he is. He is crafty. Why they always say they. They don't throw her. Oh that's a good point. Yeah never crafty righty. It's always a crafty left yet. No he's crafty with the righties. I guess maybe you get like the submariner. The sidearm usually inside. You know so Yeah he's crafty left. He's the definition of a crafty left. Specially here in two thousand twenty one where everyone throws guests. So i do like when he drops down and it's almost like the batteries. Not expecting that fastball. From the side. Yes you give you a little quick pitch here and they are oil. Hold the hold the wind up for a while to mess with your timing and your rhythm. I did another one too. I don't know if you caught it the day game against the nationals. The other day that first pitch the nationals used bowling or gulliver's name was did not see that he if you watch he had. I want to say five different lineups. He used he would go to the slide step like he was in the stretch. They we go to the wind up and would turn his back completely tour. It was wild. Why fun whatever you need to do to stay in there. Yeah your right your guy guys go to the knuckleball like our dicky did other guys to change the armed slots and the life right now. That's a great question he was. He was big into the religion stuff wasn't he didn't he marital problems that flip a coin right. Well was the divorce rate. Jerry fifty two percents pretty much pretty joined to. Hey dicky yanks are back home for tonight's makeup game with the angels garrett cole is back from the covert i l. He'll be opposed by jose. Suarez pregame on the fan. The odyssey app begins at six twenty. Five let's give you some. What are you got. Look at this so you type in. What is already dickey doing now. Somebody wrote about it or dickey. Forty five this is from last june. Okay retired from the game over two years ago. He's now adjusting to life in nashville where he grew up and owns an enormous farm with thirty seven animals including horses a donkey. A pig ducks rabbits dogs and cats. That sounds about right thirty seven animals when you got to be as farm animals you know but i mean i mean that's just so i mean to win some like overwhelming thirty seven animals how many acres it say Doesn't say horse farm nashville probably in the outskirts of nashville suburbs for him. I think that's the farthest life. That i wanna live honestly would take it like waking up taking care of the animals that going out and do that. We don't know leo was career. They like waking up and churn in the butter and milk in the cows and clean and the pig pen like. That's probably good point now by the way there was a sixty minutes piece on dickey Several years ago about a about his life hitting rock bottom extramarital affair things of that nature but they kept it together. And i think they're still together all really team up to handle all the animals out there nashville. Maybe maybe to two person effort seems like such a nice eaten not easy a nice conway of life. Raise an animal's well. You're on your own farm. You don't have the hustle and bustle of a job. Where you're commuting out anywhere. You wake up time to do this time to do that. We'll dinner much game nashville drinking and think about from a guy who won the cy young thing he's got going they knuckle around and are so hard to control dickey. Can't you see that. We need a called strike three. I know it might be wrong. But i'm in love with dickie balls underneath you there that eddie. Course he's always made my backup harmony a little off their balls sad. Ra dickey. you're so fine. You're so fine please. Blow our minds. Dickey. hey dickey. We're testing them. All off dickie. Cancel all we wanted..

"As we learn john pulling that from nineteen fifty seven reference from a musical back in the late fifties pallet frank sinatra in that movie as you looked up jay So yeah joey. Gallo was first home. Run with the bombers. That was part of a five. Three yankee doesn't in the late innings. Pretty cool came in the seventh. Aaron boone did you think that that ball was gone. I thought it had it. I thought i knew it was right. Down on thing Obviously was so high. You don't see very many that go that high yeah well. The yankees are getting coveted because keeps coughing everywhere. The amazing thing has there been a lot along home runs. This year that may been the shortest homerun this year and maybe the highest in the air who knows ago high it may barely made it over the wall and it made it over the wall the kalmyk homerun was. Actually i think even short the net from last short porch. That's rats coins. That's why you need left these. Here's your right. Here's gallo enjoys that. Poor charitable i friends from texas a me and say hey you know that's that doesn't f nine texas out so Like yeah but we're not in texas anymore. No they're not and instead they're ten games over for he's gotta be thrilled to be out of their their ten games over five hundred fifty nine and forty nine member a week ago before the deadline. We were wondering what the yankees were doing with this season while they have member. Jeanne wasn't their season. It wasn't it starting to feel like i said it wasn't there was that was over was wrong. Matter of fact. I said i like the yankees chances to win the division. More than the mets. The mets are in first place so no one said it was over. Somebody said it was said it wasn't a year and then they went out and they changed the team as a tooted. It didn't feel like they're year. I think he was right about that. I said it was and now it's starting to feel like they're going to run away with this division. How about that. They're five games out in the loss column away with they might. I'm looking at an american league. All star lineup is what i'm saying. We'll see kovin gary. Sanchez said he joined Garrett cole and jordan montgomery on the cove this yesterday's we found out from aaron boone before the game they are five out in the laws column. It's juan de peralta. Who will open this game against marco gonzalez on the fan at six twenty five. Nestor cortes did start last night. And all this chapman got this a thirty pitch ninth-inning inning. How many strikes you think. Heathrow quick around the room mike fliegelman. How many pitches out of thirty did aroldis chapman throw for strikes. Seventeen al fourteen bam on have to nail around the room on the nuts on the nuts fourteen out of thirty for strikes that's brutal but he got the save so all good as for the mets..

"Bad news. That's but anyway. I don't know why this pulse of the people were sitting in front of me. It's jerry's award. Did he put it in front of me just to see that That i could see that he won. I know he wanted yesterday. And i'm very very proud of jerry recco for winning the award. I know that the award ceremony to ceremonies but the the whole aura around the the award was for some reason totally chaotic this year. Not really sure why. I am not sure who was a running the thing behind the scenes in honor of craig carton that You know. I thought that the way that he delivered the news. That jerry one. The show was very good and it just showed how professional craig can be one. He actually has his brain screwed on and the nice things that he said about jerry and also the fact that he supported his own partner. In in in evan roberts self congratulations very own jerry. Recco very proud to see that yesterday. And i feel proud this morning. So maybe because on the longest tenured part person i guess as in a host on this particular show that the the award is in front of me to present jerry. This morning i'm posted. The people people are garbage does a fact. I don't know. I know. Jerry sought this morning already. I wasn't sure. I figured when jerry was backing here for the update we would talk to him about him. That would get it. I don't i don't know seem smaller this year. The award looks like a baby's hand to babies han thumbed up or like a toddler thumbs up. Well i think there were supply chain issues. Oh that's what it was. He s so they they had to go with. I guess glass. I guess this is that's class and the writings much smaller than our awards. Were but again you know. Everybody seems to be cutting back these. That's right of course due to the pandemic right. Things have changed right. So the question is a couple of things in regards to the pandemic around the yankees. Number jonathan louisa. Nestor cortez and of course. Juan de peralta. "The air. It's the morning show with boomer. Esiason and greg nadi boomer and geo the mets should be playing tonight but i did take a look at the weather in. Pittsburgh doesn't look all that creates so imagine if they start off the second half with more rain outs and more doubleheaders especially after the yankees kovic situation and we continue to wait news on that. Maybe they played tonight. Maybe they don't. We are hoping that once you get the positive tests the contact tracing you got everything order boom end up playing the next night and maybe they get three games it maybe they actually get three games in this series or maybe they play all four because they have the double header at some point during this weekend with the red sox but we would like to see a non shut down the yankees are going to be without these players for a while which is a big is something that's sort of got lost yesterday. So let's say that the rapid tests that the guy she ohka or shelhah in judge took turn out to be false positives. Those guys aren't going to be around for a while and you're talking about this stretch that the yankees have without judging or shelhah and higashi okay. That's a big problem. And also the other guys. Cortez and elisa and juan de peralta so the yankees are going to be in. This season has been brutal for them. To begin with this is another one of these deals. That's just going to make it even harder for them to get back into the playoff picture and winning a division just seems like totally out of picture. Michaels in nutley. What's going on michael. Hey good morning guys. Thanks for a advocating for the vaccines. That's awesome I was just curious. You know with all this. Talk cancelling games. They can players sit out. I'm curious especially with boomer is contact with the nfl. At what point do we hit it where you get cool and you don't you don't make players like players who played sick and listen to different. I'm not minimizing cove is But it's gonna be around forever You know the same other infectious diseases are so. I'm just curious. At what point did they stop canceling games making guys sit out and say listen. You've got the vaccination. You're probably not going off little. And we kinda kinda played with it around you. And i'm sure that guys have had the vaccination are walking around a symptomatically so they're not being tested for it and maybe that's what happened in this case. I don't know they'll they'll try to figure it out. But i do know this. There were three times in my career where i played in a game where i had the absolute worst flu that you could ever hear and i remember those games. One was against pittsburgh one was against houston and one was against baltimore. And i'll tell you how i got through those games. I have no idea and the the one using game. I think they're like six of us. That had the flu and played and we all were sick and they were giving us. Iv fluids we were on the plane going down. We had pre game meal with our with our team where we could eat And then show up the next day. They gave a couple of shots of stuff to help us get through the day and somehow he played shots of stuff..

"Right of course dude to the pandemic right things have changed right so the big question is a couple of things in regards to the pandemic around the yankees number one. Jonathan lewa nestor cortez. And of course. Juan de peralta. All of course test positive. Did they go home. They fly on an airplane. Did you know where were they. In order to contract the virus. Where where did they go what they do now. The other one of course is aaron. Judge and we all know where aaron judge was. The all star game was at the all star game. It was aaron. Judge kyle gosh yoga and geo or shelhah that tested positive with a rapid test. And they're waiting for the higashi your somewhere as well so he could be in that if they come back positive they could be. Maybe they were all on the same plan except for aaron judge. I dunno. Maybe they weren't went home for a couple of days. I you know who knows That would be probably some of the questions that are being asked but the judge one is really significant simply because he was at the all star game we all watched the all sort of watched it but we all saw the home run hitting contest. We saw how packed stadium was. We saw the players interacting with one another. And that's one of the reasons. Why number the red sox now had have undergone testing as well because a number of their players were also out at the all star game. So they're just trying to figure out all this stuff and just do some contact tracing. Hopefully all the stuff is not serious and we haven't heard of really any major athlete of any sort in any of the sports even nascar golf or anything Come down with anything significant. They've lost opportunities like jon. Rahm did You know where he was leading the memorial tournament and ended up leaving and then of course we have three golfers. They weren't allowed to play in the british open. 'cause they did test positive and so they stayed home. But we haven't heard of any significant deaths or any long term symptoms from athletes. That i know of and there may be one or two that we don't know of but it just goes to show you that if these guys all were vaccinated. Why brian cashman said be interesting to see what their symptoms are like and how quickly they get back. Well they got that. Johnson johnson vaccine which was the one shot and the least effective of the three big ones which to me. I thought was odd now. I know that it's protecting from hospitalization and death that that is the big thing with the vaccine however when you get shut down for any period of time with positive tests the positivity rate still matters and the efficacy against the virus as a whole still matters so in baseball team. I'm not rolling my dice with the sixty six percent effectiveness of the johnson and johnson. I'm getting the to shot one. So i'm just surprised. Is the second issue that the yankees have had both trying to make it easy for the athletes. When athletes done pfizer or madonna cut corners. And you had the visor and you boy. That's the best. I took them return. I feel like that was the best. Okay well the better than johnson and johnson. We can agree on that. People still need to get back to nato. What's interesting. I was talking over the weekend. And he was telling me that up at dartmouth. Kids are now coming down with colds because now they're all back together again and it's not kovic..

"It may be more fun than actually being inside the stadium. And that woman completely validated that thought. Love the bucks in six chance. They're great. AJ Hawk was his coast to the pet back. She always love it like a Jayhawks and the Pat McAfee show. Yeah, he is a member of the Pat McAfee Show the Pat back official. Oh, Whoa. Pat McAfee show so a Jayhawk. Is the co host with Pat McAfee on the Pat McAfee Show. A Jayhawk does not think that Aaron Rodgers sit out the season because he's too competitive pre wanted to win. You can see when somebody wants to win. I think he was very happy he won. He likes to compete. Is that guy that's going to sit out and retire to you? Nope. Does not. Yeah, I mean, so, of course, we I mean, all four of my kids are there's a lot of different kids in the house. So it was a crazy time. There was a lot of fun. But now I think Aaron looks great. He seems mentally in good spot. You can still slang the ball, wash them sling the ball little bit in the watery network jumping off. Doc's trying to catch balls and stuff, But, yeah, I feel I think he's in a great spot right now. So a Jayhawk spent a week with Aaron Rodgers. Remember John Coon. When he was on our show. He talked a lot about how he has talked to Aaron Rodgers this process and he said a little while back. He believes that 75% chance that Aaron Rodgers and back in Green Bay this year so after spending a week With Aaron Rodgers. Let's get another confidant of one. Aaron Rodgers. That's a Jayhawk once again, Pat McAfee, AJ Hawk on the Pat McAfee show that is co hosted by a Jayhawk AJ Hawk says he believes Aaron Rodgers will be a packer in 2021. I said, I don't see him playing anywhere else. That's what I said right? Day one. You said that I said, I don't I don't see Green Bay trading him. I don't see that happening. I don't know how it has to work. But, yeah, I still feel like he's going to be in green better. And so do I. Until he's traded this off season, I'm going to assume that he's going to be on the Green Bay Packers and really believe that the question then becomes, Is it on the same deal, Or does he get some security with an extension? Take a time out. When we come on back, I will tell you who will finish first. Or I think we'll finish first in each division this year. And then if your team wasn't first. Where do I have your team? "Spin rate decrease. On saturday for the brewers. His worst started. The season velocity was fine but his worst started the season and then trevor bauer of course spin rates down significantly. Tried to throw a little bit. Harder tried to compensate for that decrease in spin rate by adding a little bit more velocity but back to back bad starts for our here with decrease spin rates. This is not an injury related thing. It's a kind of is what it is you know. This one's not even really accusatory. I think people just kind of widely except that bauer who prove visit game back in two thousand eighteen in the first inning of a game. He proved how much putting these substances on will increase spin rate. And i think maybe he got to a point where he was like. Look i showed you what happens and you didn't care so now i'm just going to do what everybody else is doing. And so with his spin rates down quite significantly in his last two starts. He's going to have to find a way to adjust. A lot of guys will try to adjust by throwing more velocity at what happens when you throw it. More velocity is get more erratic bauer had four walks to starts ago. Not sure how many he had over the weekend here doing cease a guy that has walk raided shoes. That's something i would pay attention to corbin burns you'll when he kinda flamed out as a starter couple of years ago he had a really high walk rate so yeah it helps having extra grip on the baseball absolutely helps with your control so cease burns and bauer three guys. I would pay very close attention to here as we move forward sunday once again. Juan de peralta showing up on this list. And like i said maybe usage thing velocity was way down in that star earned relief appearance on sunday as well. But that's what i'd follow pretty closely a lucas sims showing up again here for the reds on sunday. How much shane bieber. Big drop in curveball. Spin rate big drops across the board for shane bieber. With a bad start against the seattle mariners. First time he's giving up multiple home runs on the curve. Ball in a single start was one of the things. I think i saw on twitter. But also bieber's velocity down and this kind of been a thing off and on here this season. He got worked very very hard. In the month of april he got pushed to a level that. I really don't think that he should have been pushed to and now we've kind of seen him. Have some velocity decreases a little bit of that. All you know less control and what we've seen in past years so. I don't think that there's an injury here for bieber may be a little bit tired but big drop in the curve ball spin rain on sunday and the mariners took full advantage speaking of the pirates. Another one here on sunday. Sam howard is really big spin rates spin rate decreases multiple times in a row. Said i think there's something going on with the pirates here. In this regard chased his young had a bunch of spin rate drops over the weekend. Tyler anderson like i mentioned a lot of relievers. The same thing for them seems like the pirates doing things fully on the up and up here so you know. They're already a bad team but now they're probably going to be worse. One other one here. Kenley jansen on sunday for the dodgers decrease spin rates across the board but the velocity was up. Saba keeping an eye on that one here in his appearances as we go forward. But like i talked about on last thursday show baseball savant dot com. Go to the game feed. Go to the player breakdown. Section and you will see the spin rates velocity the swings and misses the max exit velocity pitch velocity all those things for every pitcher that made an appearance in that game so baseball savant dot com. Go to the game feed and when you select the game go to player breakdowns. And that will take you to see where you can find these spin rate decreases and all those different types of things but as far as to kind of put a bow on this for today's show bullpens and specifically full team bullpens were multiple guys are seeing spin rate drops. That's worth watching closely. I think the braves and the pirates two of them. That really stand out here. Maybe the red sox to a lesser degree as well. The indians certainly with karen shack salen. But then dylan cease corbin burns trevor. Bauer shane bieber tyler anderson. These are some guys. I figured very much tyler. Mail some guys that are very much worth paying. Close attention to chichi gonzales as well. I there are some guys that will chance it will keep trying to use these things to try and be effective but once major league baseball suspend somebody for this. Then i think all hell will break loose. So we'll see what happens this week. We'll see if we get any suspensions coming from this substance usage but again it's a very dicey very precarious situation right now. Four a lotta guys for a lot of teams also for a lot of baseball handicappers but to that end the bullpen impacts. Here you know. When i was growing up and i'm in my mid thirties. Now when i was growing up you know it was always. Oh you're going to run up that starter pitch count. You gotta run up. The starters pitch count you wanna get into the bullpen. You want to get into the bullpen and these old guard. These these white dude's at bitch about how the game used to be. You know these guys still hold onto that mantra of running up a pitch count and this and that the fact of the matter is asserted. Pitch count doesn't mean dick. It doesn't matter because the game is so highly specialized. Now that you've got these really deep bullpens. Everybody comes out of the bullpen pumping ninety four. Plus all of that. But with what. We're seeing here with this spin rate crackdown. I want to see what happens here with bullpens.
