"We have a pick coming in, so Matt is muting. Yeah, I agree with you, Jacob. This is a smart move if the Celtics can get in late first. I mean, we're at the point now where like, you know, who the hell knows the sci-fi fall of the early second, but who, okay, we have an or announcing that David roddy trade, that's why I put my fingers up. How's it getting drafted again? Step by. Yeah. You know, Jacob, I'm totally with you. I think that I think ty, I would make a lot of sense for a number of teams moving forward. It is bizarre to me that people just continue to not take him. Matt. Well, he's still not taken. We have Nikola jovic from Serbia being drafted here 27th overall by the Miami heath. So jovic was working out in Miami, I wonder if maybe they went and saw him or something like that. I'm not really a fan of Joe, which I have a second round grade on him. This is the second lowest player to get drafted for me. How well in the second round, I have him right at I am a 31, so kind of right here. Yeah, I have him like 35 or so. Like 34 maybe. I probably have like 6 guys ahead of them at this point. I would say. But that size can shoot. I mean, there are questions about what can you do if you're not doing that? What's the passing? What's the defense? But the way that he can pull up, the way that he has the range to stretch the floor, not bad off the dribble, not great. I'm not mad at this one here. You know, it's not like a complete shock to me that they want this direction. Yeah, no, and. I'm a little bit surprised. Jovic does not scream Miami to me, but he is like a very confident human being that I think will accept like Jimmy Butler like cursing him out. Look, jovic is a point forward. That's the whole thing, like 6 foot 11 can really handle the ball. Plays with good flexibility plays on the ball. Like that's his thing. Like he is very good at handling the ball and attacking and being able to get out on the break and grab and go. He is a okay shooter. The percentages this year weren't great. People believe he will shoot over in Europe, but I will say I was kind of told that like the shot didn't look great pre draft. So I'm a little bit confused on nikole jovic to the Miami Heat, particularly..

"Skill. Yeah, I took EJ Liddell with the top 20 pick. So Justin Lewis, I think similar skill set, just in terms of his ability to space the floor. Very reasonable, really like that pick. At 25 for the spurs, I'm taking Kennedy Chandler. The one and done freshman point guard. 26, you took Dallas Mavericks, Jean Montero, and at 27 for the Miami Heat. I took Jaden hardy from the G league ignite. Another big risk. Yeah, it's kind of a swing. Again, there's a lot of these guys who I had in my top ten in the preseason who have slipped for one reason or another. Jaden hardy is another one. I had, I think I had him in my top 5 in my mock draft in the preseason, was a former top 5 recruit in his class. Spent the last season with the kind of inefficient, and I think that's probably why he's going to end up slipping just a little bit. He's an okay score kind of ball dominant, not sure what his playmaking ability is, but look, at 27, like the shot creation is really, really interesting to me. I think he's got decent size at 6 foot four. Just a really good offensive weapon. And there's definitely some limitations in terms of what he can do defensively. I think what he can do in terms of his scoring ability from an efficiency standpoint, but if you can create separation and you can score and you create your own shot. At 27, I think there are worse gambles you could take and so at 27 for the heat that's who I'm taking. What's it called? What's a cop for Jaden hardy? Does one come on? Yeah. One comes to mind is Kevin Porter junior from the rockets. Just a guy who he can create his own shot. He's very, very talented. The efficiency is definitely a question. The defense is definitely a question. The talent is absolutely not a question. So I think he's the first round talent. If he slips this far, I think I'd be a little bit surprised. But his range, again, some of these guys who are not college prospects are to me a little bit harder to pin down the gene Montero. Jaiden Artie, Nikola jovic, like all of those guys, I think have wider draft ranges than maybe some of the others and maybe that's just because I'm more comfortable evaluating some of the college prospects. But hardy to me, like he could go anywhere between like 15 and 30 and I'd be like, oh, yeah, that sounds about right. So at 27, I'll take the gamble here on Jaden hardy. Yeah, I mean, the last guy that I have probably something to contribute on would be Montero, who I have at 26. And had to look up highlights, do some research sort of on the type of player that he is. I was really impressed with the way he performed in a game against the Team USA select. I think it is. He was playing against a team that had some of next season's freshman stars. You know, some of the best high school prospects in the game who have signed to play college basketball next season. He was on the world team in the numbers were insane. He looks so smooth, offensively. And maybe there's some long-term defensive concerns there for a relatively undersized point guard. I understand that the value of a player with minimal defensive versatility is not going to be as high as somebody who's 6 foot 7 and can guard all 5 positions, but I really like the offensive upside with Montero, especially against some guys who will certainly be NBA lottery picks in the near future. And that game he played against the USA select squad, very recently it was about a month ago. So I was really impressed with what I saw. Again, it's a small sample size. We're more comfortable with those college guys, but this is why this is why NBA teams devote so many resources to scouting and evaluating the international and non traditional avenues because there's so much value to be had there. I mean, you look at the game now and there's just a huge number of guys who didn't come through the college system and were maybe undervalued as a result because they're everywhere. And the teams that scout them well have a lot of success. And so, I mean, I think Montero could very easily just from the bits and pieces I've seen of his game. It could go a lot higher than 26 and I wouldn't be at all surprised if he does because I've.

"This season over matteo bertini. His third consecutive major with a four set win over the italian. This time bertini much. Like wimbledon earns the first set over joke bitch. Seven five from there. Jovic turns it into top gear and he earns the next three sets six two six two six. Three i mean novak djokovic. He turned it on. This was the first performance because you look across the board in yes. He lost the first set against jensen brooks be in round four before winning the next three sets ditto by the way against caney. She corey in the third round. And what's so amazing for novak djokovic. He's now eighty twelve in his career at the. Us open was ten and ten in his career. At this event after dropping the first set coming into the twenty twenty one tournament he's now won three consecutive matches after dropping the first set and what was so noticed a notable for him after the match were his comments to the press. He says look. When i dropped the first set i just went to a different level. And i stayed there 'til the last point. That's something that definitely encourages me and gives me a lot of confidence. Prior to the semifinals. He also said. I know what my strengths are. I stick to them. I've worked over the years to perfect my game so that might game can have literally no flaws and while of course that a bit hyperbolic that second statement those to comment in the press. It hit him is what we saw from joke. Officials performance on day ten simply put. He was exceptional insects. Two three and four. And i mentioned this in my preview yesterday of this match but and i mentioned it for our patriot listeners on our patriot match of the day We've now seen three. Consecutive tournaments pinpoint accuracy with which novak djokovic can say hey matteo. I know you're serves lead. He's one of three players. Matteo bertini to hold over ninety percent of the time. I know you're first. Forehand is a lead. I'm going to take those things away. from you. And for novak djokovic throughout the course of the match his ability to just get the return and You know and use his return to get the point to neutral and just get that ball either deep at the feet of matteo bertini or more particularly into the backhand corner for matteo bertini and that made the match. You know and that neutralize everything matteo bertini wanted to win the match because you look for him. What was he so effective at at the start it was the the first serve the plus one ball. He was so good in that first. Set makes sixty three percent of his first serves win sixty four percent of his first-serve points which of course is on the lower and for matteo bertini but against novak djokovic. A locked in joke of it. You take that sort of performance may wins fifty seven percent of his second. Serve points as well fights off both break points. He faces with big first. Serve seven aces on the day in the sad. Excuse me fourteen winners. Against sixteen on four stairs versus joke of inches fifteen seventeen spread bertini was dictated inset number one in his service games he was playing on his terms and you know going after the first four hand in particular his ability to use his inside out first forehand to open up the inside an open up the cross court up the down the line shouts he wanted to play. Everything was that much more effective. He was locked in. And it was a seventy seven minute for setter seventy three minute whatever. It was where jovic had a couple of chances. Bertini fought them off then. Bertini had his chances down the home stretch and he capitalized by breaking joke. Vision the five all.

We've sort of touched the muni jackovitch brooks spe- saccharine versus on rescue wall. Are your predictions. No i named my predictions from nas site were shocking. We should really be mentioning them. We jovic brooks bears fascinating brooke. Spe- wildcard thrash night's session crowd full capacity probably going to be booing jackovitch or not applauding him not expecting see which do his Custody celebration baby after that if he wins it what. What your thoughts. How's it going guy. Yeah he hasn't been doing. That has a joke turkovich. I'm i think the long us going to get no. Yeah well. I think he's up for that. I like i think he knows that he's probably just accepted that. I think the best brooke speaking get is a set in tie-break kind of like how nishikori did i date and see anything happening beyond. I'm intrigued day to see how he will fare. I'm quite treat jamboree. Boy jason brooks because oversee. He's been getting of wins eight leeann. I haven't actually seen much fame. So i'm quite intrigued. See how he's gonna shape. It does feel anything brooks does. The is gonna be off. No it's just going to realize a joke of it. She's going to be like. And i took that personally. And then he's gonna kind of rampage through particularly if the crowd gallon his bat. We've seen in the pasta. The i think he likes. He can deal with that confrontational atmosphere. Yes he can. You can play the the gentleman and the the the the the you can play to the crowd if that being nice. But they're not not with him he certainly can handle it so certainly think jakovich coming three. I'm going to say i gonna say straight-sets i think brooks be will give a good account himself percent. I think jock fish will come through. We get into the business now and. I don't think there's going to be any more slip-ups really i think from chocolate to the final off to the semifinal maybe with with czar of the women's singles salary on the rescue wary gang with this because this feels much more much more. Even you know sacree as dumb welling grandsons association. What the semi finals at the french open on rescue overseas has been a usa pa- champion It's still a defeated. We forget which is completely stop thinking about what you have. You have you seeing this one. Yeah i like that good winning and loss round but that was against greet minin. Who's very different opponent. maria saccharine. So i'm gonna give you the edge. They like she still hasn't lost. And i think she's maybe going to be playing herself with each round into a bit more form and if she can just recapture what she did she is a guy. Then yeah i think if she. I'm gonna say undress in in straight-sets chalet but like claes a seven five seven six. Perhaps okay. I'm i'm thinking saccharine might win. This in three sets can see it for some reason i can. I can just see saccharine. Not letting go Staying very close to undress goo and just yet getting over the line somehow in in some in some sort of way perhaps yeah. I'm sure it will be. I'm sure be a very feisty affair that both both quite combative players on the call. And i don't think ondraskova will give this much lightly given all the you know the stuff. She's been history the fact that she plays so well on the big stage and the fact that she probably so many good memories of her on author ash. You know the fact that she's in the night session. I think would say that. Probably give us some confidence. But i'm so packing saccharin that undidahk in that underdog in the underdog. A little bit. So i think she revels in that position. I think going to soccer and we do have push back against puppet shankar as well. I think will come through in straight-sets she's again another player. Who solve slowly quietly going through the draw serving up as while. She's be doing it and she doesn't have a cage with sasha. Brian couldn't get into america because a visa. She say she said being coached remotely as well Which is very good so style. Coaching radius with everything going remain virtual. I mean pa probably have sympathy because she had also visa troubles. I think Earlier on i think we've Won't she she can play cincinnati. I think because if she was able to get visa visa hanna. Yeah something yes something that just have to deal with but We will. We first started doing the podcast but perhaps now more than ever. It feels very very clear that the generational shift has occurred. Perhaps there's even a new hierarchy at the top of the men's game. So i just want to run some stats by run some numbers. Get your thoughts. You look at where we are. At this season. there have been forty. Eight events played twenty nine total players. Mattie have won titles here in this twenty twenty one season. I believe there are eleven first time title winners here this year as well you look at the list of players who have won multiple titles to me. This is the most telling part there are twelve players with multiple titles. Jovovich has four. He's obviously still. His best is the best on the. Atp tour. i don't think anyone's denying that. Look at the evidence. He outplayed joke. Vich and the olympic match jovic didn't play his best in the second sadden through the third. But sheriff was better than him. Through three of the four sets. Zero was leading in their australian. Open battle this year and he played better than joke. Which i'd say for sixty percent of the match just not for the important forty percent of the parts And yet you look at that olympic gold that followed it up with the western southern open. I agree with you from a tennis standpoint. His best now is better than the rest of the field except jovovich and if he plays his best jovic does not he can beat novak and that it would be in a semi-final and not the final. I think benefits fear of immensely. And so i i completely agree with you that that would be the pick at the same time man that match thou. Hopefully we get it. "Of three guys to make round of sixteen to four major events alongside of joke. Which i keep saying it. But the top of the ben's game has clearly delineated itself. It's jovic top tier than a little half here with nidal. then you've got the medvedev see positive bertini quartet. You wanna throw team in that. Mix as well. that's fine. then you've got the mic. You know the best to the rest. The rube loves on a given week. The carino boost is given. We casper ru depending on the surface roger federer depending on the surface i mean. Faa shop evolves. There's a lot of guys in the mix. But i think that top seven is pretty clear right now. That's not a bad thing by the way. I think that's always a good thing and i. I just think we see that consistency. Things are starting to sort of wean themselves out sort of you know again Make clear who the best and who the rest are right now in the men's game but certainly you look at these olympic finals. We've got plenty of the bass djokovic taking on nishi cord caney. She corey one of the best stories of this olympic games. The twenty sixteen bronze-medallists. Doing this on home soil with all the injuries. He's gone through for him to have earned winds thus far in the event. Overrule blood Own and ilya involve ska yes. The for him is joker. It's like look dude. It's the one thing missing my resume. Otherwise i would do it because yeah that'd be a really cool story and it'd be good for tennis but now obviously the point being tough scored this may be the end of the line for him. "The promo code is cr fifteen with that in mind. Long winded intro. I do apologize for that fact but it's a new week on the tennis calendar and feels like all these past. I say seven weeks of tennis have been very rushed. Honestly i would say the past nine weeks for me. We went ncaa tournament. Knocking off matteo bertini in four sets six seven six four six four six three. Of course this match started out dramatic and it was fun to see. Matteo teeny fight back from two five first-set deficit and ultimately break novak djokovic twin joke which is serving for the sad five foreign. He looked for jovic coming into the final. He hadn't dropped a set since his very first set of the tournament. In the first round. Two young bridge player jack. Draper and against chaparral five four thirty. Excuse me denis shapovalov does not sniff point rest of the way he ends up winning that match in straits now here against bertini he served for the set and look jovic blink and i think in that first set it's fair to say neither player brought their best level of tennessee. "Up matteo. Bertini serves up her. First grand. slam. Final novak djokovic sinks shovel and ash bossy sets up a final showdown with caroliina applicable. Came we are heading into finals weekend. At wimbledon i think it's fat say was a baby a little bit more drama yesterday with the ladies matches but today we have had the victims. I think we've had it novak djokovic. Petya barra td. I think we sort of were expecting those to come out as the the winners of the semifinals. And and that sort of what happened. And i think general the general booths crappy fibro which is so of marching towards. Aren't we to a novak djokovic title. It just feels very fills very very sedate. It was very very very like we know what we we're going to be like ourselves informed sunday. He i feel like if bertini was to wait. It'd be like see one of the greatest upsets of sport history ever because we know he said from the very beginning that joke rituals the one to beat and that he probably was going to do it without batting an oil. It and you know as being quite exciting. He did have a bit more work today but came through it with with flying colors wherever chevelle of was able to throw it him You know it was quite frustrating measuring. Let's let's start with this match because chiappa valve. You know he called say he didn't have opportunities because he absolutely did you know he was a break up in the first set surfer it got broken and then i mean how many breakpoints did he have. Not second sam. At just i swear on almost every jovic service game shop about who's getting opportunities and i mean fairplay struck which he was able to To to save pretty much all of them on the big points shaft valve nor able to convert an you know very frustrating You know for for chaperone fans and for him. But i mean positive as well. He was able to get those opportunities to begin with. Yeah definitely and i think looking at the school line seven six seven five seven five. I think it was quite impressive. How shop vile despite kind of all of those opportunities out. He had particularly in in the first and the second set. You didn't let it get to. He did he was able to kind of reset and jock which wasn't necessarily able to run away with it like he has been able to do with this week. Sorry in the last couple of weeks against certain opponents You know going leading into the semifinals as you said chiappa valve. I think we'll be particularly ruin that. I sat. the fact that he was serving. Jovovich wasn't really playing that good tennis really. We've seen we see much better. I think novak djokovic wimbledon on center call and chiappa valve if he really wanted to kind of put pressure on the jackovitch game and kind of take this into unexpected territory. If felt like that i set was a real. It was really essential in although he was playing his service games. I really really well up until you know up until when he kind of said for it just really showed i think the despite playing a really good level of tennis when it came to those big points he he just had a bit of inexperienced that if potentially as a bit of naievty and and vitual kind of smell his his opportunity that to kind of get back on get back on track and you know even though it went to a tie-break the fact that ed got there in the first place would have been a bit of a it would have been a bit of a disappointment. I think fish app evolve. Yeah i thought he's talked much like say well. Though and i think that expected to what he said at the end of the quarterfinal that he was the star of the matches. No nil. and you've just got to pay for it and forget what's happened. Prior in all of his previous matches repulsive he was to be fair to him. Yeah like you said. He didn't give up. I mean what players do but it's so easy to get disorder when you failing to convert your break points. But the fact that he was able to hold until you the loss. Dna bay of each set. You a lot of players that have crumbled earlier and going to break down like straight away and it would have been a real formality in. You kept thinking oh if if chaparral of just a convert of right one get a set you know we might have bit more match on our hands and i think he definitely deserves to say but you you'll playing against the world number one and if as anyone that he is going to be like a break down the down the other end of the call is named joe kovic and i mean. Just talking about novak djokovic. Game in that first as i said it wasn't it wasn't the best novak djokovic we've seen and i think that's what makes what makes it so scary at the moment. Is that his his low level is still able to kind of drag him through against someone shop valve. Who was he was playing an executing his game plan. And even though you know free the fest. Two sets jovovich was pet. One seventeen points shop valve very close behind on seventy points. Turkovich was two sets up. And it just showed you despite the so parity with the you know the point play but it came to those big points. It was a completely different story. And i think joke richard save those five break points. I think he was chiappa. Vilo was love forty on jock fishes. Serve at one point. In the i think in the second set it just it just showed i think the lack of protection you know the lack of experience. The shop valve has You know when it comes to playing at this level on this sort of occasion at semifinal you know this is his his first time and it is a is a learning experience for him but jackovitch just was able to kind of bring it out and once he went two sets up you just sorta felt that he wasn't. There was no realistic prospect of of him. Letting it go now. And i think we think about like steph sits patsies played novak a couple of times in slams. I think with each time he's getting closer and he's learning from his prior prior much..

I'm convinced i would have gotten here before. Dalton did but you were saying. They're ad yeah new balls please. Manscaping dot com twenty percent off free worldwide shipping. But with that in mind just two things. Odds on these men. Semifinals let's start with djokovic shop of all of jovic clearly going to be a favorite. Do you think oddsmakers think he has a chance will. They be impressed with his performance. Here in the slammer. Do you think jovic going to be over. That mimes five hundred comfortable threshold. Certainly not minus five thousand like he was today. But what's your number what you have a. Yeah i think he's gonna be above minus five hundred. I'd say gimme gimme minus thousand i. That's too high. It's a grand slam semi-final. I do think he is going to be a comfortable favor. I'm gonna say minus seven hundred. Yeah miami seven twenty. I just feel like that's the number that comes to my head. I shop evolves going to be like plus four hundred range. I promise you. I have not low and all put them at like what plus six eighty then took to match the minus. One thousand something. I don't wanna look before. I hear your bertini a number. So for me up bertie. Fa excuse me bertini her constant that one i say. Bear teens minus one eighty. I think her cat is going to be in that. Plus one thirty to one fifty rain. I'll say bertini minus one eighty. Gimme bertini minus two ten. That's a good number that's again. That's that's where i feel like it's right and then her catch obviously just sort of mirroring the other side of that. So what do you think. Plus like what he wears you put it. I put it as play on yours. I put it at plus one thirty five to one forty. We aso give me her catch at plus like i don't know one sixty one fifty one sixty there all right your final numbers. Wow jovic minus fourteen hundred s shop Plus seven hundred. They're just like look joke. Which is winning.

Australian Open 2021: Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev Meet for the Title

"The crusade for the men's singles crown comes to an end tomorrow. And when the undisputed king of rod laver arena novak djokovic takes on russian number-one neil medvedev the world number one djokovic. Gunning for a history-making ninth championship in melbourne. While the russian authors seeking his twenty first consecutive win and first major title to preview the match. I'm joined by not edwards and commentator. Nick mcardle nick at the start of in fact two weeks before this we had you on the show podcast and you picked this matchup is that what led you to make that cole way back. Then let's say lucked out. Let's be honest that wasn't necessarily total. Total fluke made many wrong picks before but coming in you know we talk about the twenty one matches in a row for osaka. It's twenty in a row for daniil. Medvedev the non includes a win over novak djokovic close twenty twenty i think medvedev has really come into his own as someone expects himself not only to go deep. Atp events which we've seen the last couple of years but now to really do at at the grand slam so the drop laid out for him. I think he's played to each match to the level now. Can he bring an eight time. Grand slam australian open champ. Seventeen time major winner novak djokovic. Can he meet that level in a final thoughts really eighty s. What i love most is after medvedev bates itsy pass in that semi final is that he said stride away. All the pressure is on novak. He just load him up because he's plight fonsi before and never lost and it sorta. But i love how he just playfully. Put that out there and look. I think he'll come at. He'll show you'll be a little bit nervous. But i think he's just going to swing freely and that backhands i mean. Gosh they both have terrific backhands. But it's going to be like jock itch playing a twenty five year old vision of himself. It's going to be such an interesting match. I really count. Wait for the all similar. It can not just in court croff necessarily but as personalities both very eloquent and sort of personable somewhat chiming in front of the camera but they do have this white line fever as we know totally. I love those points that you've made and i think medvedeva's become more comfortable without. We sought the us open a couple years ago in the crowd. Really got against him and he used that as fuel which i think djokovic has have that in the past that in the past for sure for sure for jovic against rafa roger. He's felt that too. I really think that it is an opportunity for medvedev lake. Nona saying just swing for the fences and the scary thing is when he swings for the fences. Oftentimes the ball goes in. And i really think he's going to use that experience of beating novak in london last year at the atp finals. He'll really be geared up by that. Yeah i think so too. And i'm really looking forward to. I think the one area that novak can probably try to exploit daniels is that netplay. He's not very good. Let's let's be honest when it comes to netplay so if he can drawer him in a little bit and maybe draw that out. I think that puts pressure on daniel. Bit amid gets off to a flying start is going to be hard to stop.

No Challenges Remaining

Remember When? 2020

"Welcome to new challenges remaining our usually annual most years we get around to it remember when episode four twenty twenty. I've been rothenberg. Always remember my dear friend courtney win. Hi courtney how are you. I'm doing well then. And how are you happy. December happy december to you as well. We were just sort of talking before we started recording about how this like year feels very different for this show. Like remembering things experiencing things was very different in twenty twenty and there's obviously know like a very clear break on in the episode about in chronologically when we stopped when we were going to things and we stopped going to things we experienced things remotely and in person. So i'm just curious before we forget started like what was this exercise of. Try and get notes together or wherever for twenty twenty. How how did it feel in vague terms. Yeah i think the initial challenge for me was trying to divorce. How i felt about the twenty twenty tennis season literally the encore results and the story lines and the narratives of what would be normal tennis. You know under any other circumstance trying to divorce that or untangle that in my feelings about that from my feelings about two thousand twenty as a year and it you know. I don't anybody who has listened to. Ncr is throughout you know since february knows about you know the arc and the struggles. I think both of us have had with respect to once. The shutdown came and once so much uncertainty hit the tennis tour but even more so so much uncertainty hit our lives in addition to just living in the midst of a deadly global pandemic that it was just hard to care about what was happening after march. And maybe obviously. I think that that you can talk about it separately from your experience for myself. There was an uptick of that once tennis returned so once we got back to to to to work for me effectively in palermo and palermo rolled into prague and progress into lexington rolled into cincinnati new york. A and you know. It was really nonstop but my memories of january and february so being in australia and then being in doha which was my final tournament site are so much more vivid and crisp and clear in my head compared to the effectively. What eight weeks or so of tennis smith longer than that. I suppose but but tennis that we got once we returned in july. It's all very much a mushy pile of potatoes From from august on yet. Because for me. I feel very similarly and for me. It's weird because usually did remember when episodes the tricky parts. The hazy parts is january. Right is the beginning of the year. The stuff at ten eleven months has passed since we've experienced it of piecing together like. Oh yeah i remember this that whatever. And that's still kinda the case in twenty twenty like those are still like descendant memories but they're also in some ways the clearest ones we have because those are what we were there in person for. And i'm thinking about how experienced the french open which was the most recent major tennis event right. It was me sitting at my desk and my computer. Which is something i've been doing. You know in various forms since in this room since april whether it was binge-watching british game shows or watch enough it all kind of just like in the same place in senior doesn't change and we're so used to these rhythms of being along the travelling circus tour and having this scenery shift all the time. Even if the players say the same the people say the same largely lake having it. Be a moving picture in here. Only very small part of the picture. Move ray at our screens moved and so that makes it like it. It makes it much smaller. If like you're if you're watching. Were staring an envelope. Only the postage stamp is changing. It's still the same envelope and that's sort of how it feels for parts of it. So it's it's a less a lot of it's going to be a lesser visceral memories. We have things like you know even like big things like jovic getting defaulted from the us open. Let's say like a big like remember where you were when you did. That was like yeah. It was my room like it's very pinky and the brain. Like what are you going to do tonight. What are we gonna do tonight. brain. We're gonna do what we do every night. Pinky we're going to try and take over the world. It this is. The pandemic has kind of felt like that in a lot of ways. It's like what were you doing. What i did the entire pandemic. That's what i was doing when x happened when this happened. It's just like you know it. It's yeah it's it's tough. It's tough to sort it out and you're right. I think that the lack of change of scenery and just and you know as just common sense like the lack of electricity. That we in an adrenalin data today. One that we are used to enjoying not enjoying like a good time but like that we get the benefit of the adrenaline. Were running on fumes during slams. I mean like it's exhausting. It's a very high stress environment but it. It helps you to your job and here. It's like rolling out of bed every day at one thirty. A m forcing myself to go to sleep at four. Pm the night before like all of this sort of stuff you know it For weeks on end trying to get excited about something. That's happening in the middle of the night like i'm so clearly you know when we're in australia. We know what's happening in the middle of the night in the us. But it's not the middle of the night for us there but here like covering the french open at four five o'clock in the morning west coast time. It was hard. it was hard to motivate. And therefore you're distracted you're distracted you can't really focus on thing that's happening. I'm not a neurologist. Obviously but i do feel like there has to be some sort

EU, UK in urgent meeting on lawbreaking British Brexit plan

"A hastily arranged meeting will take place in London today between Britain and the European Union about new legislation the British government has introduced which ignores parts of the Brexit agreement signed in January. European Commission's vice president, Moro's chef, Jovic will be meeting the Cabinet Office Minister Michael He is our Europe editor. Before leaving Brussels, Mr. Seferovic echoed off the European leaders when he insisted the withdrawal agreement was not up for renegotiation. He said he hoped Michael Gove would assure him that the letter, the spirit and the timetable of the agreement would be respected. If not, there's talk of Brussels, possibly taking legal action. The outcome of today's meeting is also significant for the future of trade talks between the two sides. I guess kind of in the middle of the court and he kinda lobs the ball at the line judge the way you might if a ballboy was looking and you lob it at them, he probably hit a little harder but the line judge wasn't looking because you this just in you don't throw the tennis ball at the line. And she looked like she took it in the throat. And went down. She could not continue and because of that, he was disqualified from the US Open for that. You could see right away it was totally accidental. But what did you think of the whole thing should have been disqualified? Well if you read the rule. Right, if you're the which they've been showing for frigging every ten minutes for since it happened. Okay. It's it's pretty clear. What he did would would be would be breaking that rule. Okay it's kind of like. I don't have it in front of me but you may be able to pull up you may not, but it's kind of like. You know you're in charge of your own stick right in hockey, and if you're still goes up and you clip a guy in the forehead unintentionally, right? You're going to get penalized. Okay. And that rule is you have to be in control of your own stick whether it's accidental or not. If if you if you hit a guy, it's high sticking tie sticking and maybe more if you cut the. I think this rule in tennis reads the same way I didn't think it rose to the level of being kicked out. Did you. Know I didn't ask for a couple of reasons. One is he wasn't trying to do that. It's not as lined up here. He's got his sights and drilled the ball. At the line judge, make sure you understand here there's not a ballboy here he hit a line judge right Yup ballboy would probably be different right for the obvious reasons the ball boy would be ready there have to be ready at all times to. Give balls, and whereas the line judge might just be sort refocusing and you know they can take rest for a moment they may not be looking at the player. And it was a line drive. Okay, you came off his racket. Well it didn't bounce. It didn't bounce. He didn't lob it up in the Air Steve He. Say Line drive don't be confused. It was like one hundred miles an hour buddy. He's sort of pissed too. took the ball whacked it and it and it hit her on the fly in the throat. Wasn't intentional not at all. So when you see that, I'm like come on the guy, the guy didn't mean it. You know. So. That's you know that's a bit of a drag their. Okay. But back to the hockey roll like there's lots of penalties where you don't mean it. and it happens well, the broadcasters at the time they they actually had the they basically could hear a bit of the conversation. Between the officials and Jovic and one of the announcers said he believes that they had said part of the decision to have him disqualified was because the line judge could not continue right and. I honestly looked at that and maybe I I don't I don't want to be taken emails and an angry calls and things like that but it's a tennis ball. Am I look at the speed of that tennis ball? That's not exactly one where I'll be sending a card praying that she survives like that's that did not look like it hit particularly hard. That's just me eyeballing and give an opinion. But. We shall see. I agree she could've continued. If I had to you know I looked at her I I don't think he was faking I think she was surprised. But it looked. Real God her her her corner would come screaming but it looked a little over the top. Okay. Role Lawyers Up. Yeah. I don't know

Tennis is back; James Blake discusses the challenges

"Hello. and. Welcome to the tennis podcast. It is Monday the third of August twenty, twenty and two. There is tennis actual tennis. Not, exhibition tennis competitive tennis featuring plays, we've heard of playing for ranking points and prize money. We haven't seen any of it yet. It's just been. It's just been qualifying for the weekend but at the Palermo WPA event does get underway the main draw in earnest. Later on today David's Matt I, Give You Tennis It has suddenly occurred to me that we were together when tennis was last to think. Remember when we were watching. Dubai. Was it when Jovic Matt. Watch. Kim Clijsters Return in my lounge. Yeah. That feels like a different lifetime. I. Think. I was. Kind of the last weekend of tennis, which was the Davis Cup qualifying which. Never, find run event, which is taking place to eighteen months after they. After they, qualified for it. And the even then there were. It was kind of in the background there were rumbling signs of covid nineteen. I think the airport I was at in Hungary actually had a case and they shut the airport down and but then two days later everything just shut down it's amazing how quickly it happened. Just. Tennis tennis is back and it came back with a tennis way because I think the first day of qualifying in Palermo ended gone to am in the morning. kind of like we're doing this again. Given there's no crowds to worry about a no corporate lunches to around the there is no excuse for that is the because he can stop playing at eight am. And you can play on his you can play on his many courses is as you want or need to I mean how how it is? So tennis is it like comfortingly reassuringly tennis. is finishing yeah but also stupid. We stopped terriers and your we. When you didn't go to the airport because Indian Wells was canceled. You had a fully packed suitcase. State fully packed for some time. What is status? Is still my bedroom floor it hasn't been unpacked is had items removed from I would describe it now as haw full. Because Yeah I've removed you know the old parachutes. Only items only items with an elasticated waste obviously because lockdown But yes, all items with an elasticated waste have been removed from it. And all items which you might have to wear a Nike shoe with awesome accessories they remain in the case. Keeping most of. My bedroom floor. I said I said I would leave it the like Tracy unmade beds for the duration of Tennessee's absence and I'm a woman of my word five months. Yup. There's no. Mouse. No no mouth. Remembering the mouse, the other day and thinking was that dream It was that feels like a different lifetime. The masses in the suitcase I know why inspect that regularly? Don't you don't joke about that because that is that is those are the dark thoughts 'cause my mind when I'm trying to get to sleep. So. Yes. My suitcase remains on unpacked a spouse. Now I should probably technically go to unpack it this afternoon before three PM, which is when right the main draw of Paloma starts in the UK. Literally part of the Furniture Knob? Yes. Okay. I will. I will consider that we WANNA pitch empty. I mean that will just be a pitch of an MTC case day K. Okay, sure and case with just a mouse corpse at the Boscovich. It's It's the content that everyone's waiting for you. Welcome. Seven terms of tennis. News from this week, there's been no sort of big bombshell news. The deadline of the thirty first of July has been put. On the US Open confirming. Wants him four whether or not? It was going ahead? We haven't had that sort of concrete hundred percent confirmation. From the US Open from everything we're hearing as much as the little concerned around a concern around everything we're hearing suggests that with a heck of a lot of regulations in place in and details of those those rules and regulations have been. Leaking sporadically of the last couple of weeks, it will be going ahead. I mean seems to me that the only outstanding detailed in terms of it being categoric is. The quarantine situation on reentering the you and I think I mean in some ways that is I don't know whether that might even be made easier by the fact that it sounds like Madrid isn't going to happen anymore in this is not quite such a rush to get back to to Europe in order to play the very next event.

The Big Debate

"Hello Ladies and Gentlemen Welcome to the passing shot tennis caused by fans. My name's Joke Kelly. I'm Kim McKenzie and today on the big debate we're discussing the greatest players to never have won a singles Grand Slam title. Take your seats. Thank you everybody hype you while Hyppia Safe On. What would it be today? The very star of the French Open Garros Second Grand Slam off the season. Obviously we have no live at is to catch up on what main came have decided to do in. This episode is commemorated. The occasion by looking back at some of the best players to have never won a grand slam singles title. And it's nothing is fair to say it's quite Alexi List that we've we've captured and are few surprising. Names bad did about is the yeah. We've had a lot of suggestions for our listeners and followers say thank you very much for sharing your thoughts and we have had some niche suggestion straight in as well. I'm actually trying to think plays on these lists. Yeah A lot. More names came up that I was actually wanting to and I mean really one of the questions is where do you draw the line? How do you quantify like how many slam final how many titles players had to have one career ranking? They had to achieve to cut be considered good enough To have been capable of winning slam. Is it how close they came and in a final. Is it just what they did in terms of the rest of their career that you could kind of define it? Let's say we'll be looking into this more detail but yeah it's it's quite an impressive list of talent on this list and makes you realize actually how perhaps unjust sport can be when some of our favorite players never quite managed to go all the way exactly and as he said I could this list dominate at Alex. Verify think if that career they will at some point be able to kind of break that that grandson duck. We're going to start actually with a really popular answer. The calls one of one of the first thing that came into my head. It was one of the first that came into of our listeners. Had as well and that player is David Nalbandian. Who the me as one of those payers who do not doubt that he had the technical ability to win a Grand Slam. It was more. I think the injuries him. I think this is fiscal outlook or school. He was quite stocky and made. Now bandying was one of those players. Where yes he? He could be anyone on his day. He was let down by injuries. And the fact the his maneuverability around the court wasn't wasn't the greatest. Yeah I would agree. I think now found him probably gave into the list of being too injury. Prone to to capture title assertively. He was around before the dominance of of the big three m federal was kind of coming to the scene of course but Sam either he was before when the era of Jovic in middle kind of say dominating everything when you look back at what he actually achieved. It's very impressive. Though he was the the only Argentinian in history to reach semifinals Al Slams and even just reached semi-finals and more at all is is a feat in itself and oversee most famous he reached the Wimbledon final thousand. T- leasings Lleyton Hewitt which you okay. This was his best opportunity to witness lamb. However I think in this final you look at the score line and it was so comprehensive. He think if he wasn't capable of kind of doing more on the day at such a kind of big opportunity. I know this question marks around kind of whether he really sees the moment because slates near be like six one six three six two very straightforward line and this was the tournament. Schley going back to this two thousand Buddha. The top seventeen seeds were knocked out before the fourth round. It was only Asian. You and Tim Henman. It will get onto later. That actually came through so you think ooh found in. I don't know I guess maybe even getting to the final was a bit of a stroke of luck giving given that he was Didn't he wasn't having to play top top names to get that far. Sipa houses move reflection of that but yes that very consistent across the Sam's reaching the semi of old of them and the fact that he he was able to be the big three as well. I mean we talked about it in a in a recent Poe cost about the fact that he. He's the only player to beat in the Big Three in one tournament. In in Madrid. I think he'd be Federa Djokovic and the Dow so he was able to kind of know only just do it on one occasion. He was able to come string great consistency across. You know what you would need at a grand slam across. Two weeks is just yeah. You almost fell the loss hurdle as he said. He got to the semi finals of L. Better every Grand Slam and I think it's just a bit of a shame that he got so far but doesn't really have a lot to show for it in terms of in terms of actual titles and that two thousand eighteen. Would you look at the George? Dd that kind of that was potentially could have been his. May I know kind of you know? He's up against the world number one. The Best Player Lleyton Hewitt. But certainly you know how to kind of solve easiest drawer to get to the final to go out. So comprehensively was almost shabelle on his part.

A Tale To Warm The Cockles Of Your Heart

"We drove about an hour south to visit the Manchester Research Station where Jodi Tuft and her colleagues are based for the untrained eye. Us is just a random collection of buildings that a federal facility tucked away in Manchester Washington. Which is a semi rural area? Not too far from Seattle but really this is the heart of where shellfish research and restoration happens in puget sound. We walked into one of the buildings with Jodi and her colleagues Stewart. Disease them cockles. Right now Stewart is going to open up this kind of funky basket jovic purse. What's going on here so? Yeah these are a handful of cockles. That are roughly one to five millimeters and look like tiny little pebbles. Yes these were from spawns. That happened in early summer. June baby cockles are adorable but it turns out. They're not that easy. To produce at least in a federal research facility has robin found out when she tried to find examples of research on local cockles. Nobody had ever tried to breed them. We have some magicians on staff here. Who are really good at breeding shellfish and so we collected some cockles. Brought them back here. Nothing happened there was no magic. There was wonderful people doing great work and just a whole bunch of cockles sitting in buckets of water and they were not making any debacles. But even before. Jody and the team tried to get the cockles to spawn. They had to make sure they had healthy. Cockles and Vivian. Says that wasn't so easy. Either because some of the cockles had cockle cancer and they determined that they had a communicable cancer neoplasia. So they could all be brought into the hatchery right away. So they had to be quarantined for two weeks in a lab about fifty miles away and kept in a each individual in a separate bucket while they were tested for neo plays see even shellfish have to be quarantined. We really are all in this together. After quarantine the cockles had to be tested to see if they were sick sound familiar or generally there were enough tests but it turns out when you test a cockle for cancer. Sometimes the stress makes them spontaneously released all their spawn in a last ditch attempt to leave a baby cockle behind. And we certainly concerns that we were GONNA do a great job screening for Neo pleasure and then we will have spawned Oliver Cockles. And then that would be that because once a cockle spoons it takes months before it's ready to make babies again. Luckily the cockles did not shoot their load and that was in part because the team had another magician on staff with a very gentle touch to get the blood. They needed for their cancer tests. She was kind of kind of got the nickname the the cockle vampire because she was so good at drawing blood. After the cockle vampire had done her thing all but five of the cockles tested clean which left Jodi and her team with thirty cockles to make babies from this was their brood stock and then the fun really began so we tried. The first time around failed tried again failed. Maybe we could call it. We learned not failed but yeah we failed. They didn't produce anything and then the third time around. We brought them in and use a technique. That's pretty common. And other kinds of production of shellfish other commercial techniques and injected them with Serotonin and they they were off to the races and this also took a gentle touch because the scientists had to inject each cockle by hand in the gonads with a personal shot of Serotonin the Cocco Viagra test to make things even more interesting. Jody and the team had to set up a group sex situation because cockles have a tendency to fertilize themselves. It's actually called selling so. Yeah so the the the cell thing which your face is not making it easy for me to laugh but you know we're professionals here. We are such professionals that we are going to say it again. Just for the GIGGLES. When a cockle does the baby making thing by itself that's called self ing And that's because cockles are actually hermaphrodites. The same animal can be at different times either male or female so if a cockle is alone and it releases eggs than it can release sperm next and fertilize its own offspring. So the thing that comes from the Hem afforded expanding of the cockatiels also great sentenced to get to say is it can be a challenge for maintaining genetic diversity if a cuckold creates thousands of baby cockles. And they're all exactly the same genetically. That would not be a good thing as jody. Says there'd be basically no genetic diversity so with the group sex tank and the cocoa Viagra injections the setting was finally right and the result was cockle. Babies about a million baby cockles. Many of which are out with partners out squamish now growing bigger. Bigger bigger the took all those cockles and put them out in the shallow water of the sound in a floppy an acronym for floating up Weller System. It's sort of like a nursery for clams that is outside so there's water flowing through twenty four seven so they have food all the time and oxygen all the time and that's where they are right now once the baby. Coco's get to about the size of a quarter they can start living where. Coco's belong in the INTERTIDAL zone. We thaw that. They would have been ready by now but they're growing very slowly. There's not that much food in the water right now. Although they're not dying they're just kind of waiting waiting for spring waiting for the big phytoplankton bloom and I think they're really going to start to grow soon. Some of the cockles they raised. Were extra tiny stragglers. Those were the ones that Jodi and Stewart had in the building to show us. We wanted to see them jump. Coco's don't do anything on demand. Apparently okay let's see. Oh Yeah I just I don't. They're not opening and just the shells. The shells are beautiful and I have a whole bucket of shells that the I will show you in a bit because as exciting as You know five millimeter baby cockle is it's not exactly a meals worth now. We only looking at it. You can imagine what they'll look like when they're big they're miniature version. I mean the crazy thing about looking under a microscope is they. Do Look back at dinner. No one's really fun to see. Miniscule baby cockles under the microscope but we really wanted to know was. When will they be ready to eat? So that's the question we keep asking are. Biologists are constantly hearing from us. So when will they be ready? When will they be ready because people talk care about like medicine in terms of food as medicine and Sometimes people say I need to feed my Indian and it's that old school Indian ancestor piece inside you. That really needs these foods. These sovereign foods that we've had since time immemorial to last time I had cockles was about three months ago but that it had been about two years because I just don't Wanna eat them before we can save them. But we're had to have some gotta feed Indian sometimes

Daniil Medvedev claims first Masters title in Cincinatti

"The world's best men's tennis player at least at this moment is deal medvedev going into last week. The twenty-three-year-old russian had made two consecutive tournament finals here in washington d._c. And then in montreal then this past week in cincinnati he we used huge first and second serves and really solid for hands back ends to beat world number-one electric in the semi finals and divvied viewed goffin in the final to win the biggest title of his career and move up to a career-high number five in the world behind only jovic rafael nidal roger federer and dominic team stephens hero. The eighth ranked stefanos citybus. Thank you is owen foreign his career against gets medvedev seats apostol ben rothenberg last week than medvedev plays sloppy adding. It's good sloppy. He can make you miss without your understanding how you just missed you. Miss shots that you don't mess. That's deep kind of. I watched medvedev in d._c. So i have a good sense of how well the dude is playing but i it didn't know before i saw a pretty oblique tweet on sunday. Is that three years ago medvedev was defaulted from a match on the second tier challenger tour. You're in a match which was played on clay and savannah georgia medvedev. Who was then ranked number. Two hundred sixty in the world was playing donald young young as a black american can player in the first at the chair umpire. A black woman in sandy franch went down to the court to check the ball mark on shot medvedev hit. There was close to the sideline. She called the ball out giving young the point which led medvedev mark. I know that you are friends. I am sure about it. After the game was over french called over tournament supervisor advisor medvedev was quickly defaulted for what the united states tennis association later referred to as questioning the impartiality of the umpire based on her race. There is unfortunately precedent for that incident in two thousand one. Australian lleyton hewitt claimed that a black line judge at the u._s. Open was calling foot-faults on him to to favor hewitt's black opponent american james blake. I've only been foot-faulted of one end. Look at him. Look at him. Look at him. Mate hugh had said look at him. I and you will tell me what the similarity is. Get him off. The court. Look at what he's done. Hewitt was not penalized during a match or afterwards the u._s. Us open tournament director brian earley who you may remember as the guy who came on the court during last year's yes open final when serena williams demanded to speak to the terminent director during her her conflict with chair umpire carlos ramos early ruled that there was no violation of quote grand slam code of conduct and that quote the evidence events was inconclusive as to the intent of mr hewitt's remarks to the chair umpire q._a. for his part said i come from a multicultural country. I'm not racial any way at all. Though hewitt didn't get sanctioned. John mcenroe called his on-court statement unforgivable. It has indeed followed hewitt for his whole career areo still hear people mention it when hewitt's name comes up medvedev's words have gotten less attention because they came in a minor league event probably also because he wasn't yet well known when it happened as far as i know medvedev has never commented on this <hes> the incident did get brought up in two thousand seventeen when at wimbledon medvedev eh opened his wallet and started throwing coins at the base of the umpire's chair to make a not so subtle point about the empires bias alleged bias towards his opponent it

Gareth Bale left in limbo after Real Madrid board block China move

"Your Gareth Bale and you've got your manager saying it's best if he moves on yet he doesn't want to go. What do you do if you'll Gareth? What would you do? Would you sit on the bench. Take the money or would you go so I said go somewhere else or a couple of days ago. I said he has to go. Prolongs prolonged career Gallup show everybody that he still talk class player having seen the last two games that Real Madrid played. I'm not sure that sedans going to be there for too much longer or I think he might not. He's not lost the dress in but he doesn't know how to change this side that a plan really poorly at the moment when he didn't end to last season this Gareth Bale thing is causing a lot of problems I think Gareth by just and if it was say I'm going to stay here. I'm GONNA prove your if you give me a chance and if he does go and you manage the Chancellor John Lag into new Sean is not the answer and I don't think too many clubs in the premier league all by Munich or P._S._G.. Look are they going to make a bit for him. At the moment or plays wages so you could go and pay for one ice pops if you took a Paker if you took it up but still I don't think too many coming in for him at the moment because he hasn't played that much over the last couple of you could force the hand to move I would go and play in in a Premier League club and try and be there starman improve over the next four years on still a world class player and we told you so the fact fails they've got him play and go e._p._S.. G. And then you will prolong career Numero got bill and and maybe a little picot now yeah and then you set for another full five years Ganga now just going to say to be fair. We have to consider also ASENSIO's injury in this. I mean it's still very crowded upfront. Fronton sedans also been very very clear about this but if you look at it in terms of in terms of numbers game that's one. That's one guy who who incidents mine would have been a headed bail in the pecking order came out of the mix and then you know it's hazard. It's Venetia Jovic expense. Is there some room in there for Gareth Bale. Do they want to hold back a little. He's loved the only thing I can think of cops. Sedan has completely lost bail regardless of whether Bill Gates and the team every now and again or comes off the bench kind of billy gibbons it on every single thing he's got no the will be professionalism that will give set in the mode but possess let x factor when you you really want to play for somebody and you really for the Jersey and you really WanNa be there so when you take away taken a chunk of the extra ability then you have so he's lost got with bill guys bills weakness team staying Real Madrid note clearly if they need another body. He's there and ASENSIO's injure. That's all I'm saying religious and you're putting money you just have a body there just in case the injuries fifty million body. That's not suggesting could I'm not suggesting but if he doesn't WanNa go Stewart for the time being that might come into it as well. You know there's only around Madrid can't sell him if he doesn't WANNA WANNA go but they may be in a situation where they say with ASENSIO gone is their way to repair this Gareth.

James Marsden to Star in 'Sonic the Hedgehog' Movie

"Sonic movie has started production and we almost talked about this last week, but we had so much stuff to cover last week that I was like, oh, we'll get to. Eventually I was gonna say anything like, he's like, you know, we did. We really didn't have a lot this week, so it kinda worked out. Like eight con filled in nicely to Slad in. But okay, so I'm getting this from comic book movie dot com. Say, having started production only a week ago, the sonic the hedgehog film is already delving into nostalgia hills zone. A name familiar to fans of the franchise will be making its live action debut during the hybrid film, the location of Greenhills, which set the tone for sonic as the first games level. As the games I level seems to be under the watch of sheriff, Tom, which hausky played by James Marsden the film's human lead. Now, there's a couple of pictures of Mr. Marsden l. k. onset. They just literally within. Like a week or so, you know, just started filming. So you know, they're kind of doing principal for tiger fy and stuff at this point. But this is Mr. Marsden as Tom, the Cup. It's like, okay for anyone who hasn't seen any set photos. He's just like in like a sheriff's outfit like that Brown light Brown combo me myself and Irene, he kind of looks like Jim Carrey does. He does? He does. And then here's a another. One of them. Just, you know, fixing his little cowboy hat. Just like, you know, I don't remember a cop in sonic. It's it's going to be because they call it a hybrid movie is going to be like a live action CG tight. Okay. So like the cream for Robin Kennedy thing, think Alvin and the chipmunks project probably somewhere or like the Smurfs movie or something like that somewhere weren't
