"You can text 11 90 A m to phone number 44222 That's text. 11 90 am the phone number 44 triple too. All right, Josh. I know this week. Your gear just show around the theme. Won't you tell our listeners more about the theme for this week? You bet man this week. Steam is social security. So this is a really good questions that we've received around Social security. All right, Josh. Perfect will jump into the first question today. Social security. This one's coming out of Fort Worth. Natalie was asking Well, what is Social Security, Josh? Financially since the security is a federal social insurance program, and it was created back in the thirties, basically, In the great Depression to help the people who are aging. I need needed financial support. And what it was that what it is, is a pension programs. That's what people pay in through there through their jobs and pay the Social Security tax, which over time once they reach a certain age that can start to draw that out as an income stream that goes for the rest of their life. So what started out of this social insurance program to protect the aged has now evolved into a retirement plan. For people. And so today we talked about it as a way to a strategy and and it is a way to draw income in retirement and how to maximize that income. And so for you, and we'll talk more about this today and you need to know the engine and outside. It's so that you can Make it work for you. And that's essentially what Social Security is Natalie. Well, we'll continue to build off that this was coming out of Grand prairie from Ryan. He was asking How is Social Security Eligibility? Determined? Great question. So, Ryan, you become eligible for Social Security benefits when you've reached 40 credits, so you earn credits as you earn money as you're working. And you can earn up to four credits per year. And so the the equation for that is is that for every $1470 that you make, you can earn one credit up to a maximum of four per year. So you could see it doesn't require much earnings to earn credits. But you do need 40 credits to be eligible to receive Social Security. And so that's just eligibility and then based off of the amount that you're going to get from some securities based off of the amount of money that you make and how long you work, and so The security looks at your top 35 earning years. To determine the amount that you are. You received. And there's a calculation that's done and then based off of that calculation, it gives you a income benefit amount of monthly income amount. And from that amount is what calculations are based on to reduce it. If you trust us a security early or to increase it if you draw it later, and so that's kind of the The simple answer to eligibility for Social Security. All right, well, Terran from Keller ass When can I start to claim my social security payments, sir? So Terry, and you can start your benefits as early as age 62. Or as late as a 70. So there's an a range there. If you start your benefits early again, the earliest is a 62 You get a reduced amount. And then you have what's called your full retirement age. Your full retirement age is based upon when you were born. For many people today, that's anywhere from 8 60 60 67. It's where you get your full benefits. And then after if you delay it pasture for retirement age. Then you get what are called delayed retirement credits, and so that benefit goes higher, and it increases that 8% per year. So again you can draw in his early is a 62. But it's permanently reduced and keep in mind. There's other ramifications to that, too. It can be reduced for working before your full retirement age. So that's something to consider. If you're determining when to start that medicine Again. You can do it all the way to 70 and get the maximum that you can get out of Social security. "Of the fox News channel is here of this colonies. With Mary Walter. Hey, Good morning. Joining us now. Gordon Chang. He's an expert on China distinguished Senior fellow with Gates. Stone Institute. You can find him on Twitter at Gordon, G. Chang Gordon. Thank you for joining us. Good morning, Happy Friday. Well, happy Friday. Mary and Vince and thank you so much. Good morning. So yesterday Big deal. We had China's top diplomat Yang, is she? She and State Councilor Wang Ye Meeting with Secretary ST Anthony Blinken and National Security advisor Jake Sullivan in Anchorage, Alaska. They're going to go for round two today. How did round one go? How do you score both sides? Well, first of all in the opening remarks, it was a shoot out. It was a breach of diplomatic protocol by the Chinese on declare Lee. It got off to an unpleasant start. Just give you a sense. Both sides agreed that each of the four people would speak for two minutes. Well, Secretary Blinken spoke for two minutes 27 seconds. Jake Sullivan spoke for two minutes 17 seconds. Young Josh shirt spoke for 16 minutes 14 seconds and one, he four minutes nine seconds. And then the Chinese propaganda from Beijing, said the United States was the one to violate the understandings on time. It just shows you that the arrogance of the Chinese these days Now I've heard that the internal sessions were a little bit more cordial, but it really shows that the Chinese came to lecture the United States to set the terms of the relationship going forward. This isn't gonna work. You know, I was struck by the fact that the Chinese are exploiting woke ism in the United States as a way to kind of put the American team the Biden administration team in a headlock. Yesterday, they were suggesting that they should not be lectured by the United States about human rights violations because we have issues in our own country. In fact, they suggested That there is the slaughter of black people going on in the United States. And as a result, which is a very big, obvious big thing on the left big talking point the left. As a result, the U. S. Is in no position to be engaging in a human rights conversation with China. Yes. And and clearly China's been trying to provoke racial unrest in the United States last year, and this year it actually incited Americans to commit acts of violence, which really is more than just version, Vince. It's actually an act of war, and so they're presiding. That which they incited has a reason for us. Not talking to them about crimes against humanity, including genocide. We're talking, institutionalized rape, institutionalized slavery, masked attentions killings of minority members. Probably forced organ harvesting. This is just horrific. Unbelievable. Are they treating this administration differently than they treated the Trump Administration? Or does it just appear weighs more public Now? Is there a difference? Certainly there was a difference. I think the Chinese were afraid of President Trump and certainly they couldn't predict him. They were really concerned about what he might do. You know, they could deal with a hostile American president, as long as there's some sort of diplomatic niceties about it, and that they can sort of deal with it. Um With Biden. We have heard voices from China's belief in the interim after the November election, but before the inauguration that they owned Biden because of Hunter, Biden and Wall Street, so they really arrogant and also see Jin Ping, the Chinese ruler, believes that the West is done. So this West in terminal decline narrative. Really means that the Chinese think that they can do what they want. So there's a big difference between the way they treated Trump and the way they treated and way there now treating Biden. You know, I got to admit that I was encouraged a little bit by the fact that it appears that the Biden team is taking seriously the attacks. The criticisms of China that the but the Trump administration definitely had another bite administration appears to be continuing. Yesterday was that first time when you see those two delegations together that I felt like the Chinese had the upper hand that they were coming into this negotiation, and we're exploiting the divisions on the left Gordon Chang in order to basically Take advantage of of a Democratic party that is too paralyzed by the nonsense it's created in the United States to be useful at helping to make gains for us internationally. Well, that certainly is the mindset of the Chinese. Now I think that America Americans can be proud of Secretary Blinken, who stood up for the United States on Dat was a good performance by a secretary of state. Also, it was a good thing that the Biden team sanctioned 24, Hong Kong and Chinese officials on Wednesday, according to the Hong Kong Autonomy Act, That was a good thing because the Biden team was saying to China We're not afraid of you. You can't set the agenda for their relationship going forward, right? But nonetheless, the Chinese right now are extremely arrogant. And that means this is an extremely dangerous period of time because they think that they can do what they want. What one other thing this week out of the White House that kind of convinced me that they buy an administration is still falling for Chinese propaganda. There was this concern about Waves of anti Asian violence in the United States that we keep hearing about, especially in the wake of the shooting in Atlanta that involved a six people of Asian descent who did die as a result of the shooting. It looks like that was motivated more by the The killer's sex addiction. Whatever that is, versus raised the Regardless the White House response, Gordon Chang was to blame the last president for referring to the origin of the virus as having come from China. That sounds like they're falling for Chinese propaganda yet again. Well, it's even worse than that bench there, not just falling for it. They're propagating it. And also this goes back to January 26 when President Biden issued his executive order on xenophobia, which criticized President Trump not by name, but certainly.

I'M NOT GONNA put anything past these developers publishers no matter how big or how small I've seen too much as far as the video game industry is concerned. So I'm going to tell you right now my friend I don't put anything past these developers publishers, right? Now to make the extra because there is a lot of money involved, it takes a lot to go ahead and upgrade these games. So it's not exactly for free I mean just Oh. Let's just change the color scheme and their go. It does take money to go ahead and upgrade these to a different format, but we don't have to buy it. We as fans don't have to go ahead and purchase it automatically if we want that in Nice Shinier better looking. Control game we wait five years and it will play it fresh wait until it hits the bargain been there you go I mean this is a simple. We don't have to buy it and we don't have to clamor for it. Contact tracing that's way more efficient to get a handle on anyone talking about that ship before this is like it's just full of shit like it's overly optimistic to look at that and one of the more kind of striking things as they were the I think the person conducting the interviews mentioning this June date because I think a lot of people are saying like June could maybe be the beginnings of some relaxing of these social distancing guidelines, and again they were sort of like now without that testing, not without properly like said you know in the United States, especially like we're not even in a complete lockdown as a country like they're still eight governors who have yet to really make. Moves on this, so it's like I don't know how you can think. This is were really handling it when we're still just allowing other places in the country to keep moving on when other countries we've been going through this have had to lockdown entirely and they said in terms of industries like maybe manufacturing construction would come back I, because you can reasonably keep six feet away from somebody, and like exercise social distancing there, but he said the this one expert said if you're talking about concerts, gatherings, fucking sporting events and shit like that who are saying Oh. Contagion has a whole section where people after A. Bunch of months of social distancing again that viruses like way deadlier and kills basically everybody who get sick with it. But they then create A. "You're doing the state I mean this is MTV back in what year this was ninety ninety to ninety two. We did a show called. You wrote it you watch it which we were reenacting letters about From from fans and we were doing that show that was show we one of the directors actors on there And then that was ninety two losing track. I think ninety three. It's when we started the state. Yeah because I think I did the pilot for that show that never made it like a ninety five or ninety six. That's probably around the tonight five. We did the. CBS disaster the sea when we jumped to the network. And then that was that was like Doc Tober ninety five so the MTV show is like before then so what was it like. I mean you get near University of meeting all these guys he's big personalities were was there an immediate attraction. Immediate love between all of you where you were just like you all each other on you liked everybody. Yeah there there was at a we. We took each other pretty quickly and I don't know it's one of those things where you you never know why this group of people got together. I think we are all very smart. Ambitious extremely talented. Those guys are are incredibly talented. And and so I feel like that you know people like that attract each other and there was safety in numbers. There's like okay. What if we came up with you know at the group where we all perform in right and so it happened pretty quickly in terms of US getting along of course as you move on there's dysfunction in any big group gruppen? Those dynamics start to particular and and everyone sees what annoys each other about each other. And so who is a leader. Though was their leader was was a David. Wang was the our friend Todd Holler back founded. The group Todd Hall was in a sketch group with David Wayne and Mo Willems who Mo Willems Mo Williams is a an incredible and very popular Children's book author And he had founded this Sketch group called the Sterile Yak the tot holiday David Wayne were in todd. Broke off from that informed A group called the new group which ended up become the state. So that was that's all at Nyu now who did you honestly in the beginning when you first were there and like this guy is the funniest who did you look up to where you're like. Oh I mean not to say look this is events so it's not like you're saying putting throwing any wasn't that your God this guy is going to be a star. Wow can was like. Ken Made Me Laugh Very Hard Marino. Tom Lennon was wicked. Smart and funny Although it's funny Tomlin and we talk about this so I don't feel bad sharing this like I didn't like Tom when I first met him. Tom was very tom had it. Tom Thomson very like arrogant to me. And standoffish And we ended up going in for this student film film directed by Adam Marcus who did one of the Jason Movies and we were in the audition and we just hit it off. We had a great red addition. We booked this student foam. And we've been close ever since I love that man. He's generous it but it's interesting how you meet somebody and like you. Don't take it to them immediately. And then they become really really close. You have friends like that. Yeah I also think it's. It's easy for people I don't know how many times someone is said Either about me or about a friend of mine or somebody I know or an actor in now. I've learned not to listen to like. Yeah my friend Joan. Her friend John John Friend. Jim said that Dax Shepard was not really nice and I'm like Why I'm by the way this isn't a true story? This is not a truce now. It's not a true story but like you know and Like why oh. I don't know. She said she went up to him to get a picture. And you don't want to take a picture I'm like do. Do you think maybe he might have had been having a bad day. You think maybe he was in a rush was he. Eating was the hour. I'm a good judge of character. I think that's a good trade of my for the most part. I mean people like this. The person's good I I trust them. They seem like genuine person. I I my friends are better than me. Yeah I was part But I give people the benefit of they say so and so I go you know. That's well that's why you have so many friends I mean you what's amazing about you rosie is that I. I want your Halloween Party. I don't know when it was a few years ago probably October over. It was it last year I was at the end. Mothers ecological another terrific character. We were a bunch of boneheads showing up like not in costume. Everyone is in costume. And so I think I wore like a quint shirt or some josh shirt. Anyway you have so many people that love you. You should know that you should know that because it's it's important. It's easy to forget things like that. especially when you're feeling alone or out of it not sink not feeling like you belong. I went down like all these guys. Rosie that's amazing and it's true and I and I was happy to be there and be invited and that I also knew you so it just hold onto that known that because that's that's an important thing to remember when you you when you have those days where you like talking about doing it again but you know all this. I want to say first of all I Jimmy. Thank you for that. I mean it's incredibly kind of you and I appreciate did that the problem my mind. It's not that I don't believe you. It's not that I don't think they love me. My friends love me. It's this dichotomy of of yeah of course but then I'm always organizing stuff and doing fun things and doing this and having Thanksgiving and having a Halloween party and doing what. If I just didn't do that anymore with these still they still want to give a shit about me and I I would hope the answer is yes some of them. I'm just like sometimes I I worry I go God you're such a helper such a people pleaser. You're such a like I want to be liked and it's you know it's like dude true but like you don't don't you have your family. You have your job you have your kid. You don't go. Hey I'm GonNa do this an invite all these people all the time and I am getting better at it and I've been working on myself but you know no and I genuinely think people care about me. Yeah I do. It's not about. That's not an issue for me to allow people in. I think I think I just you know I've talked about this some billion times but you know getting it at a young age getting kitty on life and you walk around life you know like I don't know if I've ever been really felt love that I was really like few people. I feel that way but I can relate to that. I related that yeah I can relate to that in that. There are many times when I'm in a room and I'm like uh-huh what the hell am I doing here with. All these amazing people like what what what's that about. I should not be here and I've realized that you're never in a room. You're not supposed to be if you're in the room you deserve to be in the room period. So that's helped me just take could step back. Take a step back Trauma Abbott. What else is APP? It's this is what happens when you prepped for colonoscopy protein. What's in your mind right now? You're begging you to get rid of Shit yes but like you have to step back and remember that the you're there for a reason to to just accept it just own it you know and that's helped me. I hear your point about having a family right if I had this amazing place that you have. I've with all these incredible things that inspire you in it. That's wonderful and yet you're like well. What what else is there? What what about the family all that stuff? I could understand where your where your head might start to spin and be like what happens if I don't though the parties is it. Just do I turn to Howard Hughes or or whatever it is you know what I mean but you won't you won't you won't. There's too many you you're a you're a people. Gather you have an energy to you that just people I like it. So don't sweat it. Well I thank you my friend. Yeah Man I find but look back to you back to me as I view it is inside of me. What else we haven't talked about? We talked about Brooklyn while. I WanNa talk about Brooklyn but you know that whole journey from going from the state into this like starring on things doing things you're always like going. Hey I remember playing poker with you. I've never been at bars with you and it's just like hey joe I might do this independent thing. I don't know pain. I remember remember going up to quadruple. BANGERS called is four. You know you're staying in this thing. What were one of those little private urinals? Yeah those and you were. I just like doing this little bit. Part I've waited fourteen hours I haven't shot yet and I can just tell like you didn't you didn't show up. I knew it like you're like I just I just want something to hit. Yeah you you know I just WANNA be able to go on set every day. Yeah and be have a purpose. Say I'm here to do my part and work. You wanted to war. You're starting your star. This is a very interesting part of the conversation. Were segue into now because what you're talking about is accepting when your time is right. I had a longtime accepting when my time. It's GonNa be many actors. Go through that mark. Kevin Jackson just did a podcast with Brooklyn nine. And we're talking about Brooklyn nine in that. I almost didn't go in for Brooklyn Nine. I almost didn't get Brooklyn nine nine because I'd gone in. I put myself on tape for Allison Jones. Then they wanted me to come back in for a callback or session at that point of his during a very kind of dark time in my career in my head about my career like you know what I've done survey I've done all these like little movies. I've seen enough like like everyone knows what I can do. Like cast me cast me but like I'm tired of it. Who's really the EGO was overwhelming? Swallow me up and I almost didn't go and if I didn't go I would not be on the show. Clearly more importantly the lesson learned. Is that no one knows you anything. And if if you're doing a job because you're expecting to get another job you gotta find what you like about it. I know that's you hear it all the time you find the join. What what you do? But you'll get you realize that's really the truth because it put me in such a a mood of Eldest and people know what I can do. Just give it to semi give it to me entitlement. That really starts to wear you down and it starts to infiltrate you in a in in negative ways and you don't enjoy we around. I remember member. Ken Marino is such a great guy. His wife Erika Young wrote this really funny visuals. Here's burning love that. Ken was in so dominy. Funny people were in that shooting that and I was just in a terrible mood and can bring me a set like while we're shooting you know I didn't know disruption during the set but between takes I was just like not at the greatest of moods and he's like what he's like man to can. I love you I love this. This is so funny like I just couldn't be doing this. Like web shows like it was really narrow minded own grateful type of stuff and he her as a friend and he related and here I am talking. There's someone that also hadn't got his big break cans amazing and seeing all this stuff but also hadn't gotten his break and you realize you just end up sounding like a complete asshole asshole because you can't see your path you can't see when.

I don't understand why we can't tell what's yet. No one. I don't know. I try to be as obvious as possible. But people still can't tell were important character. No. But I think I unintentionally just come across as a care. Well, because it's like if you left the room for like half an hour be like where he going. Oh, I met some people as in their room for like twenty minutes. What? And yeah. Yes. Like that answer. What is that? Do you want me to elaborate? I mean, I would prefer not to I told Rudy. He interviewed me. I. I'm gonna leave everything open to interpretation and I'm gonna make like a contest and today's April first, right? Weird. May I our announce everything that happened? And I'm gonna get was everything real. Not everything was real. So when there's people in your room that happened that happened. How many like I said, I'm not gonna say the details yet there are people in my room, and I was in other people's room. But that's all I'm giving away. I mean, it was a lot of this the whole weekend. How are you? Where'd you go? Our you guys brainstorm folks left on Friday night club. Where did you go? Yeah. That was that was one of like. The character moments. No, no. We're equally drunk everybody. I did later all over the past. Right. You are equal maybe more drunk. Yes. Just showed it in different ways. You were. I thought you would trunk our fucked up going to dinner I asked him like you fucked up KB. No not. But I thought you were. No, I wasn't right. Sober dinner. Great. That was a great was it catch great food. This. It was it was a lot of my brain is exhausted from this four minutes and the biggest factors outside of seeing him. And being with him. We spent once on exile Taylor hotel. We didn't see him a lot and knowing there's literally no way to know what he did outside. What he says? He did what you just meet a lot of people. That was tough for me. Getting the boot like getting no, how are you? Now you in the beginning. I don't know if you did you watch back our conversation, the one that I was recording the one that's on Twitter. Yeah. The one that you immediately made public, right? Yes. I washed it immediately. And I watched it like seven times more. Okay. So you are very clear like I don't want us to be like my reputation. Yeah. I said that it is now clear that. Keira is now clear that will be part of the legend of KB or whatever. Are you just fine with it? Now seems like you've been funny and handle it. Well, I thought. It's it's a big part of my life. Obviously it wasn't the most ideal situation. Dealing never seen him since camera the way, Jim. Jim in the off. People carry on. We look is looking directly at Rudy. Holy rudy. If this gets posted, I don't want my side view. You know? If you're filming me, I wanna know for sure. Does I wanna nunciate my statements? Yeah. I'm not used to being filmed throws me off. When Frankie was doing in the hotel room. He was doing very discreetly. And he was good at it with the iphone Rudy is in my face with that. What was my question? I don't know who knows that. I want to know about the Josh shirt. What what is the and then the rest of the outfit was that plan not planned or we're not gonna know till may I posted a blog probably like an hour ago. Put again, very a detailing the whole out of choice. Total. I I didn't what did you say. I I read it, and I was still confused. So when I found out I was going to Vegas, maybe like in a day later, I- preplanned all my outfits for each day. I went through my entire wardrobe closet. My jurors had my grandma do the laundry because she had she's fucked up some things, and I made sure I had an outfit for each day. So the first day the biggest day Thursday, when I meet Dave meet, you know, you meet Frankie meet guys, and it's like my coming out day. I'm Shawn fantasy. And I'm Amanda Daba. And this is the big picture a conversation show about the movie us, the new film. The second film from writer director, Jordan Peele. I'm going to say right up front. We are going to spoil the hell out of this movie. So if you have not seen us, please walk away very quickly from this podcast. Can we just reiterate we are spoiling us turn it off? If you don't wanna hear spoilers amend, and I right before we begin recording this podcast had a philosophical debate about the essence of spoiling. It is we're in complex times because a movie like us is essentially bound by spoilers. The whole story is it's impossible to talk about without it. I wrote a whole column on the ringer dot com. You can read that in which I danced around the idea of the ending of the movie, but really was much more about the kind of movie that Jordan Peele makes this is only really his second movie has I being of course, get out which was nominated for best picture was an international phenomenon. I think kind of redefined what a horror movie could be in a lotta ways us is different. I would. Say Amanda, you know, I'm going to throw some questions that you were going to talk casually. But excitedly interestingly about this movie, I'm going to just start with you as a non horror fan, you bravely. Yeah. When and saw this film. This is what everyone who's really excited about us wants to hear is someone who was like too much of a wimp to see horror movies her opinion. But I'm engaging. I'm gonna try folks you're going to try. I mean, it's okay to be a whore expert to enjoy us. And I think that's actually part of the fun talking about the movie, but just as an experience, what did you feel walking out of the movie, I had a lot of questions, which I think was the point. So in that sense, it was successful. And I think that is also a bit about the structure of the movie, which we'll talk more about the second half is really loaded with a lot of ideas that are they come together very quickly, and and then the movie ends, and so you wanna talk with someone about it. But I found that interesting, and I have found myself trying to puzzle through the ending and the questions, and I have found that that is what really stays with me. Me and also the various images there are some really really amazing and creepy images in this movie that have stayed with me, but funnily enough I do think the ending stayed with me more or the the questions than perhaps the premise or the scares of the movie. Yeah, I think there's something very savvy about the design of the movie, which is as soon as it's over you sort of want to rewatch it and see it again, and in order to make a movie and movement, you need to see multiple times, the most successful movies, the avengers Infinity wars of the world, the reason those movies make a billion dollars is because people go four or five times, and they go, and they cry and they have emotional experiences with it. And I think Jordan Peele is a very emotionally bound filmmaker. And he's creating relationships with characters that stick to you. You know, the relationship that we had with Chris and get out was was real. You know, we we had a lot of empathy for him. Even if that's a movie that ultimately is a sailing white liberal guilt, which is something that I think you, and I have been we've victimized in that way. This movie, though is different because it's about it is about sort of everybody. It's a movie that is meant to be. About america. Let's just talk a little bit about what this movie is will sort of try to summarize it it opens with a very specific declaration about the tunnels in America. And how many of them are abandoned and unused. And what is really happening inside of them. It very quickly shifts to a story set in the nineteen eighties featuring a young girl named Adelaide will Wilson who is at a carnival. I guess with her parents and her parents are not maybe paying as much attention as they should and Adelaide goes to what amounts to a sort of a hall of mirrors, a funhouse room that has largely abandoned and in that funhouse room, she encounters a double of herself yet someone who looks exactly like her and it's not a reflection. It is another began. It is truly her. Now, this is in this sequence. There is some of some really awesome filmmaking. That's this is where I was like, oh, cool like Jordan pills going to the next level. It's just very haunting. It's very beautifully shot the way that it's led is incredible. Michael Lebel scores. Amazing. And then we sort of flash forward from that moment. That's like. A shattering originating feeling for Adelaide. And then we meet the Wilson family in the present day and they're on their way to a road trip. Excuse me. They're on their way to a beach house vacation it Santa Cruz. Yeah. Summer vacation. And we need the whole Wilson gang. And they seem like just a regular old American family right there in African American family, but that's sort of incidental in the telling of this story. Exactly. Yeah. They're in the car and they arrive and the kids are asleep in the back seat. And the dad is making fun of everyone for falling asleep and not participating in the car journey, and they are talking about the song on the radio. It is kinda your typical family vacation fair. Yeah. And I think it's an interesting way to just make everybody relate to everybody right away. There's something like very Americana about that experience of being stuck in the backseat and having to listen to your dad lecture. You about how powerful the song. Yeah. I got five on it is by loonies grates on by the way, the car. I believe is a station wagons your motto. But of course, it's. Classic. Yeah. It's kind of Jordan peels Rockefeller Norman Rockefeller things. And it's charming, but it doesn't necessarily seem like a scary movie for a while. And then the movie takes like a good. I don't know thirty minutes or so to kind of kick back into that hormone structure that we had right at the beginning with that very upsetting scene in that hall of mirrors. Yes, there's a whole bit. With Winston Duke who plays the father and a boat, which is very funny. It is genuinely he is the comedic relief in the film for sure, but they are establishing the family dynamics, which I think is important because you are a bit invested in this family when things go south, but it is just funny and enjoyable there's something that you learn right away. Which is that something is wrong with Adelaide you can tell immediately from an lupita and young plays the grownup Adelaide really cut him an amazing performance. I think we'll talk about her a lot. I think she's maybe the single biggest takeaway aside from what you're did with the second movie in the ending that you pointed out at the top of the show, she's uneasy she doesn't want to go to the beach. The beaches a reminder of this traumatic event. That happened in her life, and there's just something kind of bio chemically off about her. We can't quite figure out what that is. But Winston duke's character just seems like kind of a doofus dad like lovable Fulla dad jokes trying to make the best of his summer vacation. And she's just on edge for some reason when you were watching the movie, what did you think was going on with harijans like this is just a PTSD situation? Yeah, they do at some point in that thirty minutes flash back to a scene after the fun house where young Adelaide is at child therapy. And she's kind of outside the room while the parents are talking to the therapist, and they're talking about everything that has happened to her since then she won't talk something's wrong. And you watch Adelaide hearing that and is sue PTSD is the clear example, we should also say like it's not that she just the beaches a traumatic place for her. It's literally the same beach visiting Santa Cruz. So she doesn't want to go back to a place where something scary happened, which is. Is understandable. And you just kind of sense it. It's a little too close. Yeah. So there's my first question. Yeah. Why are they going back to the same beach where something terrible happened to her? Right. Well, it's a great question. And that was one of the main notes like, maybe maybe you try to prevent maybe you try to head that off if you're Adelaide if you're adult Adelaide, you'd think she would having issued buried what exactly beat which was or where she had been. We'll she's clearly not accessing it or talking about it because she it becomes clear that her husband does not know about the incident, and she's buried at very deep and doesn't want to talk about it. And so later that night while he's trying to seduce her which was a very funny moment, then she and she's just like one hundred percent not receptive to it. And then explains why and starts trying to explain what happened to her as a child, and he doesn't take it seriously. Because it sounds like she was just a six year old who got scared by something in a mirror. But it's it's clear that she hasn't felt ready to talk about it for whatever reason. Spoiler alert. There's no real spoiled. I mean, we ultimately learn why which is that the Adelaide. We meet is not data lead. We met at the beginning of the film and things are not quite what they seem threw out a lot of this movie before we go any further. I do wanna point out that there are so many little tidbits of self referential -ality and pop cultural fenra sprinkled throughout this movie in that opening sequence on that I mentioned about the tunnels immediately. After that, we get a vision of a commercial on television from the hands across America movement, and is a very slow pan into the commercial hands across America was of course, a sort of charity design in which thousands of people locked hands across or locked arms rather across various states in America to fight homelessness. And you're familiar with hands across America at all. I was a little too young. But they the image, and especially the poster the t shirt that recurs through the film ways Valey buried some art in my subconscious. Yeah. I mean, it's an interesting thing. It's it's largely considered a failure. After you know, I it was a noble gesture that is was ultimately sort of illogical. And I thought that that was kind of an interesting yet at work. I'm back that. Yeah. It's inside story. And then on either side of this television that were slowly painting in on we see the shelving units and on the shelving units. You've got a copy of the right stuff on H S, and you've got a copy of the goonies, and you've got a copy of this movie. Should have you seen should I have capital C capital H capital U capital D, it's a horror movie as about I'm not going to get into it. It's probably till into describe. And most crucially Steve Martin comedy the man with two brains is on the show as well. And all of those movies represent something to this movie, and they're all of these little signature flashes throughout the movie that is you know, is Jordan telling us as this guy born in nineteen seventy nine that all the stuff you grew up with is meaningful to the making of his story. The horror has this long tradition of winning in all of this stuff. You don't know as much about those movies. You're not as personally connected to stuff like that. You haven't seen showed that I have not seen chide? So when you see something like that. You're just like this is just set design. This is just a prop. No because you know, the right staff signifies something to me, the V H the concept of VHS the eighties. And I think we've just been so programmed now to you see specific film or movie or music reference that identified by name and a movie, and you know, it's significant somehow talked about this at length with captain marvel a couple. Yeah. I guess I don't know the specific horror references, especially for something. Like, I don't know what that is. But there are certain who are references in this movie that even I recognized because I have seen some horror movies and also they do transcend the movies sometimes like the the twins in the shining, transcend culture, and they're everywhere in this. So you kind of once you see enough of those movies and you see the kid wearing the Josh shirt. And you see another thriller shirt. Like, you know, what's going on? You understand that this is part of a thesis statement, and you can kinda pull together what the thesis statement is it is. Although I think in some cases, the thesis statement is like five thesis statements, and that's a little bit of this problem that I have with the movie, but it's it's something that feels a little bit messy, and we'll get into that as we keep talking about it. But for example, Todd is here's the plot. Description of Chet the puck concerns and New York City police officer and a homeless shelter manager who joined forces to investigate a series of disappearances and discover the missing or. Taken by humanoid monsters that live below the city now, you can see right. So the next into doing all the reference

"I like the way like Chris is talking about what are they trying to put five on? What? Sounds good. At least. This. Okay. So I'm looking at the trailer. But this is what happens when you move out of what conned into the suburbs. Oh, yeah. Not in Nacchio Bahir, man. I was thinking he got the health of the crew for black Penn got that black package deal going. No. But. I was watching this trailer. Man. I let me let me just say that. All right. I'm not gonna even play. No, I'm not gonna I love this trailer. Sure, not great at trailer, very very creepy and very effective. It really is. And you just to make it as well. I know I know what what I like about. It is how is how they first of all they get you into the into the trailer by all the fans out there all of the I like how they got fans on different levels with this. Because the the first thing you see is that is Jordan Peele just showing his movie geeky because he's in one shot just one shot. He's already given a mosh to believe Spielberg and George Lucas, you know, you got that kid back there where Josh shirt not. I think that's what you Baca mask. That's where with mask or something. I don't know. But. In like that he's doing that nod right there. It's because throughout the trailer. I liked it. The kid is he never taste that you Baca mask off that one kid that has their favorite toys or something like their safety blanket. Very creepy address. It weird things. Yeah. Got his ass like a house negro, right? Vo tied. Dinner, jack. Baca was serving on the plantation. Ironically. Like the kid before the trailer even gives anything weird happening. The kid is already weird. Or of course, he's the one that knows all the weird stuff. Because no one else is looking at it. Exactly. Exactly. So he's already two kids. Do they do, you know, an observant typically it's funny because like this kid is he's already kind of already. He's already off. He's like one of those guys. He's perfect book film school like he watches movies so much that he's just social shosha socially retarded. He's just kind of like he just socially off a little bit. Yeah. Which is playing to the film because like you say seeing like he's the one that starts to see things before anybody else. I noticed counters the candy man at one point just stand outside in the middle of the beach, scarecrow or fingertips and ammo. Yeah. Look at it. This is like any kid would be like, man. Thank for what this dude over here. He goes straight on. Hey, mister, you, okay. Actually think in the movie that that is probably just a homeless red herring. Macguffin are red herring or something? Yeah. But although you see that the even with things that might just be normal not part of the movie, you can see that. They are ready to have ominous thing going on like, this, whatever it is whatever's going on this guy has bloody hands. Why you know, what is going on kid almost route reminds become a black version of Danny from the Schaal sharia? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Sure. Of course, so far, though, how you feel about like I said what I loved about is just like how it's edited. And how it just slowly builds just awareness by setting that up and like his parents reactions and everything like that. And then you have this his weird Doppler gainer family that comes in and how they are. I mean, they're like the family, but they're not they're more animalistic and. They're moving. It's just that is something. You have like a regular human guy only krone up a tree or hopping over things are a walk on walls. And whatever that's always just considering it makes it more creeping. Yeah. Absolutely. Matching uniform got matching uniforms. Let's your superhero. This is really weird the whole family. We hope win jumpsuits nice uniform not uniform, but now aware red jumpsuit. Yeah. Some people in prison with new incredible 's families. Yeah. No in what what what I like is that he's worked. He's worked some of the culture into the heart. Because that's what I was saying. He's he's already showing his film geeky out to folks should have a notch to that. But I liked that. He's a he's also brought in his not to black culture..

"Katie in the morning. The number one hit music station. What oh seven five Casey L yesterday was a very scary day for students and faculty and the parents. Oh, yeah. Smith high school where an armed man, Greensboro. Winston greensborough. Far from here. It isn't. Yeah. Walked into Smith high school carrying several guns, several magazines and a backpack filled with boxes of bullets. He was apprehended. For some people might not understand it is that's like reloading your God has a bunch of bullets in it to reload. So we're going to take a listen, the Greensboro police chief did a press conference yesterday and kind of answered or talked a lot about exactly what happened and what we know. Take a listen just before twelve forty pm today on these Smith high school's campus. A school employees working as a monitor. If you will inside the cafeteria area noticed an individual that did not fit in that had wandered or walked into the cafeteria. We believe they came to the open court area in the school and walked into the cafeteria the school employee approached this individual ask good, they help them. What were they therefore after a short exchange, the individual brandished, a handgun Josh shirt to show a handgun and made some request that. Immediately alerted the school official, obviously, there's a problem. The gun part just gun Peres terrifies. So brazen all the kids there in you walk in and good for that. The cafeteria worker for not only seeing something unusual but saying something in approaching him which is dangerous in itself because I'm sure there's people that come by the school to visit. They don't check in like oh, sorry. I got lost. And so that could have been whoever this person, male or female could have been their last day. And if there was any armed security at the school while the Greensboro police chief does answer that school officials acted quickly. Calling lockdown over the radio began to move students out of that area. And is this was going on this one individual left the cafeteria and walked back to the court the art area. Obviously, this alerted are SRO that was on campus and less than a minute. The SRO was in the courtyard and confronted this individual or the individual pulled two handguns out one all my gosh. SRO student resource officer. Yes, they're police officers with guns in Iraq. And I think what there's like one or two that are assigned. Typically depends on the school some schools have done some serious have one. That's true. So I'm have to. And so the police chief of Greensborough continues the altar confronted the individual then fled across the campus are all Sergei foot chase within about sixty seconds or less because we were calling in on the radio we had additional resources arriving while we were able to apprehend the subject only age of. School property near the the driveway near the tennis courts. I'm very pleased to say that neither that individual or any grades police officer had to fire weapon. There was use of force. A taser was used to bring the subject into control and make the arrest. That is quick because I mean, it's like right off Holden road in Greensboro area. But I mean, the fact that they tasers him meaning he was kind of resisting or whatever. And who knows when he was going to take that gun and pull it out and possibly shoop already. Showed the two people while he was standing there that he was armed if you're just joining us, by the way yesterday was a very scary day for those at Smith high school when a man armed man walked onto the campus. And it was a cafeteria worker who I noticed that. There was somebody who on campus who did not belong mugshot. He's older..
