"Ready for you. We do value you. Come here, here's the love, just as important in the recruitment as Anthony Hudson as U.S. soccer and the people at the helm as the teammates within that player pool are the fans. So this is amazing to me. Yeah. And when you hear it from the player, it really stands out to you, right? We kind of assume it, you can look at his Instagram, you can see his comments, but when the player tells you, yeah, it was overwhelming. And when we go back to the very beginning, if you remember that first Instagram post, right? Go where you're appreciated in life. It was so obvious that this kid wanted to be love and hashtag U.S. M and T Twitter certainly delivered there. I wonder if you're willing to give any credit to not just Anthony Hudson but Greg berhalter, right? Because this is a guy who we've now heard from multiple players in terms of building camaraderie within the team. Even a guy like Zack Stefan, who was left out, talked about the camaraderie in this group. It's clearly something that is helping in that dual national recruitment process. You don't even have to have a head coach and you still have a guy like Bali and willing to commit to the vibes in this team hurt. He laid the groundwork for sure. FIFA, under 20 World Cup kicking off later this week in Argentina. Here's a look at the U.S. schedule in Group B, they start with Ecuador and Fiji and Slovakia. For more on this team, let's hear from the man in charge. Mikey Varys, head coach of the U.S. under 20. He joins us live from Argentina coach, busy man. Thanks for taking the time to join us here on football Americas. Thanks for having me. I appreciate it. So a lot of folks that have watched this show know about your under 20 team. We've been tracking you for a while, specifically going back to Concacaf qualifying where we talked about it on this show. I don't know that I've ever seen a team at youth national team level dominate a tournament like that. For those that haven't seen your team play, tell us a little bit about the style and maybe if there's any differences in the team you planning on taking to the World Cup versus the one that we saw in qualifying. Yeah, great question. I mentioned it at qualifiers. The boys did something incredible for their country in that tournament, not only qualifying for the World Cup, but also being champions. And most importantly, I think, doing a selfless thing in terms of qualifying the country for the Olympics with zero guarantees that any of those guys will be on that team. I thought it was really amazing. In terms of what you see from the group is you see an incredible American fighting spirit that's first and foremost, we're built on intensity and relentlessness fight and then on top of that, we really pride ourselves on being an and team. So we are intense and physical and relentless and we want to be proactive and aggressive with the ball and the attack. Try to score a lot of goals.

"Have we heard that U.S. men's national team, you know, social media is toxic. That social media in general is a dark place. It's negative, bad for your health. Here you have a player who is not only coming to terms with who he is as a footballer, but coming to terms with who he is as a person. Wants to feel accepted and most basic emotion for a human is to want to feel accepted and you have all this love, all the support from a fan base showing you we value you when England, when Southgate says, wait your turn. We're not ready for you. We do value you. "That a look at you taking shots? At every time. You head over there. I love that kid. Just started. Here on football Americas. All right, hurt. Which of the U.S. men's national team players that we just saw in run it back most needed their big performance on the weekend? Josh Sargent. I don't even think it's close. I mean, go back to last window, the nation's league window when everybody's talking. Flow, flow flow, float here, flow there. He's coming. Everybody forgot about Josh Sargent. And it Ricardo puppies back in the mix and Ricardo says, you know what? I'm tired about listening to about flow. I'm here too. You're concentrating on following ball again, and you're concentrating on Ricardo peppy. Josh Sargent sergeant, excuse me, will remind people that he's still here. He's still in my eyes. As of today, the player in this pool up top is the most talented. He's the most talented 9 for my money input. Before the World Cup, before the World Cup, he was on a tear, 8 goals. In Norwich, playing finally in a central position, scoring some goals, post World Cup. It's been something else. He has struggled, and then he got injured. So this was vital. This was important. This was a necessity to remind players to remind people to remind the coaches. I'm still here. All right, I didn't go with Josh sergeant. I went with Gio reyna, but on Josh sergeant's point, I think it's fair, right? 'cause it's the number 9 position. So it's maybe not the deepest in terms of quality, but in terms of guys who you legit feel like could get that job. It is the most competitive and it's the most important open position in the team. So anybody who scores sergeant Pepe that is going to help their stock, especially when I think the reality at that position, herc is when or if balagan commits, he immediately goes to number one on the depth chart, right? And everybody right now who's playing knows that's the reality. So you have this time before he commits to kind of put yourself at the top of the heap or at least in that conversation because once balin commits her, I think he's number one on the depth chart. And I think you're going to have a really tough time. Whoever the manager is, keeping him out of the starting lineup. Even if he hasn't played a single minute for the national team. I think it's illogical to think somebody's already written in if they've not ever played. But the sentiment, what you're saying is absolutely right. I think the majority of people and even the players feel that way. And hell, even for any valid and is going to feel that way if he's committing. That's just a reality of things. So I understand where you're coming from that. Since we're talking number 9, probably worth shouting out Daryl DK. Unfortunately, the Achilles injury playing for West Brom. He was a guy who was playing well. So unfortunately, he seems a little bit snake bit. The injuries just keep cropping up for him at the wrong time. For me, I thought when you said this is real obvious, it's not close. I thought you were gonna say Gio reyna, because we talk about giovanna Dortmund a lot. And of all the guys that we've discussed, the only one who's playing time mark is not guaranteed is Gio rain. In fact, the only guarantee right now for Gio reyna Dortmund is that his talent as much as you say it is and we all know it is, is not enough to get him on the field at that position. He's got to be more productive. So when he gets a goal, the first one for him since early February at a position and at a club where he is way down the depth chart, that's huge to me because we've already seen it, even his productivity earlier in this year didn't really lead to more playing time. I hope this goal leads to more playing time because still at the end of the day, I'm not convinced that dormant right now is the best place for Gio reyna. I mean, look at the best place when he signed, look at the best place the first few years, but the way things have gone post World Cup, you can make a real argument he needs to look elsewhere. Yeah. All right, so Georgia there with a goal, what would we say is 6th in league play for Borussia Dortmund? Let's keep it in the Bundesliga. Because the team that Dortmund is chasing atop the table had their own stumble. Buyer and drawing one one against hoffenheim. That's right, John Brooks went the full 90 playing in the middle of a back three. Andre came rich in the 71st minute there to make it one one. And

It's a little L three. Is that who is that? Shout to them. I think this is supposed to be about what she meant is. I don't know. I don't know what it means today. Yes. Yeah, a steady, steady, steady. I think we've hammered him enough on this show. I don't think we're talking about Jimenez in this episode of football. He wasn't on the roster this weekend. Best daddy, daddy. We do have lots to get to. You were working quite a bit last week on Friday. You were actually at the gold cup draw in Los Angeles. You spoke with a variety of Concacaf mentors. So here's from some of those guys we will, of course, be reacting to us. Traffic, LAFC, LA galaxy. "To the Bundesliga to FC Osborne, which was a terrible choice, doesn't play has a rough go at, but go of it. At the advice again of Greg berhalter switches leagues to the era de vizier and starts tearing it up and league in cup. He's back on the radar. He has to go. Greg berhalter leaves off his only true proven goal score. Now you can say Jordan Peele is a proven goal scorer and you may be right and he wasn't formed, but with the national team. And at the club level, in multiple stops, it's only been Ricardo. So while you're at the World Cup and Josh sergeant, who I've said many times is the most talented man you have. Yeah. It's injured or struggling and you need a goal. You need somebody capable of fabricating something up across or through spaces or through tight lines or combination play, whether with his feet, right or left or the head, you look to the bench, it's hide you right. You don't trust. You look to the bench and says, who's feeder? Who had a very rough go at it in the World Cup? It has to be Ricardo Pepe. He was so missed, so sorely missed until this day, we don't know if we'll see him again. At the national team level, regain that form. Yeah, which would have been great because of everything that you just mentioned and what he can definitely offer and what the U.S. was missing. And I feel like it was kind of the same situation for the Mexican national team. Yeah. Because there was a lot of problems with the 9 and it was this debate whether to take Roku funes mori, whether they should still take. Yeah, exactly. And he was injured. Speaking of injuries too, raul Jimenez, we know that he wasn't at his top for me still hasn't been on his top form, and that was so painfully evident during the World Cup. Why not give the kid a chance? Because it's someone and he's not even necessarily a kid anymore. I say that kind of lightly because he's still so young. And he still has that growing up to do. But he's done that growing up in such short amount of time. That decision to leave the Mexican league make the jump. He was having maybe not all the minutes that he wanted because he was coming off the bench still. He just started starting and now he's scoring goals. So I think Mexico could have really taken a chance with him. But I don't even think it would have been such a crazy chance with him. So the only reason I don't go Santi Jimenez who I think is an absolute baller. The only reason I didn't go Santa he met it is because you

"In a World Cup when it's a 100° outside. Yeah, and I think that's the thing too is like some of us have been kind of confused with these starting lineups and I'm sure we could talk about it if we want now like why guys like Gio reyna and Brennan aaronson aren't really playing the amount of errands and not starting geo playing like what, 7 or 8 total minutes in the tournament. I think you could argue that aaronson is the best informed player of any U.S. player in the world right now and the geo, you know, you could argue he's the most talented U.S. player. He was on, I think number three on the list of under 23 guys coming into the World Cup and he doesn't I think the word on the street is he's banged up. He said he was a 100% though like he's been injured on and off for Dortmund for the last couple of months and the injuries have been pretty bad, but this has been the one off field distraction really kind of looming over the U.S. team is this rain a thing. And there's been talk that pearl hall isn't like feeling him, but bro all there's just like, it's not that. I'm just protecting him from getting injured. It just gets into when you bring this team along. It's like, and you bring any guys with you to a World Cup who are injury risks and you're trying to like, quote unquote protect them, you have to wonder whether or not that. Roster spot could have been used on somebody more useful. You mean, like how we have three goalies. And then a guy who they're afraid of. People usually bring three. No, I know. I'm just going to the rust or spot. And then all of a sudden, it leads to Shaq bore playing the last 20 minutes of two pretty crucial games. That's my favorite part of it is we have four strikers, I believe, on the roster. None of which we have any confidence in. None. We have four right backs. One of which keeps obviously desk is good, but Jack Moore keeps coming in for some reason despite repeated evidence that at the moment just way too big for him, period. I guess we talked about this before the tournament on the pod I do with Paul Carr. I don't think that like Ricardo peppy being on this roster. Some people got all worked up about that, but I don't think that changes the ceiling or the floor of the scene. I just don't think we have a striker we can trust. So the question is, why don't you just go like MBA style and just put your 5 best guys out there, put your four or three best attacking players out there and have them figure it out. The answer is Greg berhalter, his system, he just he plays with the center forward and a striker and he's just not going to go off of that plan. So that's why we see Josh sergeant just run around for 70 minutes, not really accomplish a ton. CR was calling for the false 9 with pool sick. No, I was actually, I want we up the middle. And I don't know why. I don't know why he, I mean, obviously he prefers playing off the striker role and like playing in the channels and a little bit more on that wing slide, but I think if you move we had a 9, you can bring aronson in and dick Clinton Dempsey was talking about this too. I'm not inventing anything there, but if you can bring aaronson into the starting lineup, if you move we at the 9, I think that that I think what Burrell hader wants to do with bringing in aronson is that that's his like Trump card to bring in at 60 minutes. It's first when McKenzie starts. It's his Trump card to bring in one of his 7 best players. If you hope so. If you're playing three matches in 8 days in the desert, you wanna have like a second gear that can happen in the second half. We'll bring them in at halftime. Right. Well, typically, it's like around 55, 60 minutes is when that would be an aggressive sub. Halftime is when something's gone wrong. If you're making 70 minutes for Christian Pulisic got his nuts kicked up into his stomach and you have to bring in somebody. Do you want to talk about that now? Well, no, I want to talk about the formation for a second because I rarely get a chance to strut my soccer song. José Mourinho Simmons. Let's do it. Look, as everybody knows who listens, I love, I love the three forwards. I love the left wing the right wing and the high forward. I'm

"Is a player who we thought was going to be the next big thing. Are you member the rio olympics. This was a player that was a teenager at the rio olympics and playing on the us women's national team. She didn't make this olympic squad. Some five years later this could be the beginning. I think of redemption tour. She's twenty three years old twenty three years old. She's already planning sixty plus times for her country. A world cup winner. It's not like she's in the other side of thirty eight. Where like can she get her magic back. She regained that form. She's twenty three years old great opportunity for absolutely the other thing i would say about her. She's got a little bit of crystal done in her. In two thousand fifteen crystal don was one of the last players left off the team. She then tore up the nwea cell for the rest of the season and from then it was never doubt anymore as to whether crystal don would be in the national team or not since being left off this roster mallorca's having a pretty good season three goals already for chicago red stars so i think Watch out we may be seeing the second birth pew with the women's national team. We'll see more of it. On september sixteenth. Thursday seven thirty. Pm eastern time the us. Against by from cleveland game you can see on espn two and of course streaming live on the espn. Let's head out some winners and losers from the transfer window. That wasn't hurt. Let's start with matthew hoppy who moves from shelf in bundesliga to to my llorca in lollygag hurt for you winner or loser winter. What's he gonna stay in bundesliga to or go to lee. Come on man come on man come on man. He's got to be a winner he's on. Espn plus right. Shame about that team. No offense door holden but you know and what do you mean. He goes from shocking to my orca. Orcas a major upgrade place to and he has his own view an awesome. Look at this. They did as his intro. Video was great. let's at least. Yeah go ahead. it's a technical league. Right is not a good fit for. Yeah i like them. Technical league is going to be very good if you can play. I mean there's still a plan. That's very much unproved at the senior level with with. What is the club team club. I guess the question is and we'll probably. You could ask the same about josh sergeant later. The minutes won't be guaranteed at my orca as they would have had east state at shotgun and so minutes. It'll be a big part of this right. If he doesn't get minutes at my yorker we may not be looking at risk reward here absolutely moving.

You have to experience it at some point so to say that it's failing i'd say it's a struggle right now for sure whether they can kind of breakthrough and get over the top in terms of that. We'll see i. I'm not ready to give up on it yet. I guess it's a long way of saying that but You know we'll see we'll see how these guys do. Jeff you mentioned josh sergeant before and we've been waiting a long time. It seems like for him to have a single game like what ricardo peppy had injustice. I game last night. And i i just wonder. I don't wanna make this entirely negative about sergeant. It's about peppy too but like detect. Pass sergeant in just one night. Is this slight waiting. And waiting for josh d'argent to emerge and be this player that we think he is is that kind of at least for the time being kind of over or at least put on the back burner and other guys are going to have the chance now. Absolutely obscene ricardo peppy. Showed me more. I think it's two games now that he's played for the. Us than just sergeant has showed me in twenty. And it's you know. I think for a long. I'm guilty of this as anyone in a lot of. Excuses have been made for josh sergeant. Well he was. Playing for vertebrae i mean. Obviously he's with now but he was on a bad team with vertebrae women and So you know he was doing all the little things right you know the holdup play the linking up with guys but at some point he needs to score and at some point he needs to be gold dangerous and he just isn't that often enough for the. Us team graded. It's he's dependent on service like a lot of forwards but last night it was just it was infuriating to watch him make three almost three five yard passes or three to five yard passes to a guy who was like pratt. Obviously right next to him you know. He's not looking to try to take guys on get that that's really his game but at some point you you gotta do a little bit of that to keep guys honest and so I just i just see a guy who doesn't have a whole lot of killer instinct and it at least at the moment. And i don't know that i've ever seen a real killer instinct out of him and so ricardo peppy still little raw. But there is something about that guy that just scream striker. I mean he if out opportunities he can you could do it with guys draped all over him he can and heap you know. I was a little disappointed. That first afghans. He had where he didn't really connect with it. But my word you know. He he buries that header He's he's making great runs. He's you know he's he's just helping in that on the goal that he scored Actually i'm thinking about anthony robbins goal. You know he. He holds the ball up. He stabs it to a prolific. I believe and then he create some havoc on the box that allows entity robinson to finish. And so it's just. I don't i don't see just started doing any of those things the national team. And so you know. I think he's a guy who because he's playing in. Europe has lived off that reputation as lived off of where he plays. And it's it's time for him to start producing and until he starts doing earth club. Now you know. I think it's going to be awfully hard for him to break the lineup. And maybe you don't even see him called him. Jeff one more positive before the obvious elephant in the room crushes. Which is west mckinney. I'm gonna let andrew. Who is. I gotta be honest. Salacious media hound. I'm going to let him talk about that one. But one more positive anthony robinson last night at left back into the game just being comfortable on the ball being cam and the ball getting open. Don't doing all those things you want a kind of a wide back to do and doing them competently comfortably. Taken his goal really well. Is this another position where we can. Just say all right. That's the guy right there that either. Don't touch it absolutely. I mean so for so long. It's like well what are we gonna do about. What does the us going to do about sergio deaths. Because there's no one at left back while there somebody at left back now. There's somebody at left-back is showing actually a couple more consistency than sergio desk. I mean maybe he's not as good dribbling the ball suzanne yoda's but he puts in a fantastic cross he gets into the attack. I mean what am i. Restrictions of the el salvador game was that when he came on there were like two or three times where he is streaming down the left wing. The overlap is on a guy like geo. Rainy season doesn't pass on the ball. I'm i'm just like what are these guys waiting for. And then the one time in that game were anthony. Robinson was able to get across in. It created some danger. And so you know maybe this goal maybe his klay over the last couple of games will create a little bit more trust that it would entertain that he can get the job done but yeah i mean he's he's the guy to be left back right now and then we'll see what happens on the other side will see l. Healthy dust is He does continues to look really out of sorts to me. Even you know there was a lot of concern after the nation's league about the way he played there wasn't a huge uptick in my opinion in terms of his play this window. And so he's another guy who has kind of been living off his reputation of playing at barcelona. But there comes a point where you got to perform if you're going to continue to play for the us national team in right now. That's that's that's in doubt for me jeff. I do have one more positive for you. But we'll end on that. Because i like ending on a positive note rather than a negative. So we'll go to mckinney now. This obviously was the big story during the week leading up to this game. What's what's the overriding sense that you get from coming out of that camp right now. About how they they feel about him are they. Are they mad at him. Are they disappointed in him. Has he shown the proper amount of contrition for whatever it is that he did. I mean what is what is the feeling right now in. Us soccer about weston mckennie. Well publicly there. There's disappointment that he that he did what he did But i think it's telling that after the el salvador game he was mckennie was one of the guys preaching accountability and responsibility and the fact that he wasn't walking the walk on that i think rubbed a lot of people the wrong way and so i think there is broad support for what berhalter did med. Can't i mean this is kind of coaching. One on one you have to. You can't lay down a set of standards and then when the star player wanted your star players violates just kind of ignore it in. Pretend it didn't happen. So sorry jeff do you think it was. You know greg bear halt or like you said. He has delayed on the standard boo boo. Was it enough like. Would it be an acceptable could could bear halter have and maintained discipline if he just said hey. The canada game is enough of a punishment. He could've played last night. That's a fair question. But you know i think just reading some other reporting about this. It wasn't so much that it was covert protocols. It was that he broke any rule and so but to me to me. The covert apart matters. Because you're bringing an author unauthorized person into the bubble. You're putting everyone at risk right. After zach step has tested positive for coverted and another staff. Member has tested positive for kobe. I mean to me that you know it. it's mind boggling. And so i've seen where the cova doubt like. Hey this would have happened no matter what but it's not just western kitty doing something that's going to affect his performance. It you know if somebody else had gotten sick because of his action i mean. I think that's what the what really infuriates. People infuriates me..

Well he was playing for vertebrae man. i mean obviously. He's now but he was on a bad team with vertebrae women and So you know he was doing all the little things right you know the holdup play the linking up with guys but at some point he needs to score and at some point he needs to be gold dangerous and he just isn't that often enough for the. But my word berries that header He's he's making great runs. He's you know he's he's just helping in that on the goal that he scored Actually i'm thinking about anthony. Robbins goal. He holds the ball up. He stabs it to a prolific. I believe and then he some havoc on the box that allows entity robinson to finish. I'm gonna let andrew who is. I gotta be honest. Salacious media hound going to let him talk about that one but one more positive anthony robinson last night at left back into the game just being comfortable on the ball being cam and the ball getting open. Don't doing all those things. You want a kind of a wide back to do and doing them competently comfortably. I mean maybe he's not as good dribbling the ball dust yoda's but he puts in a fantastic cross he gets into the attack. And so you know maybe this goal maybe his klay over the last couple of games will create a little bit more trust that it would a that. He can get the job done. But yeah i mean he's he's the guy to be left back right now and then we'll see what happens on the other side will see l. There's disappointment that he that he did what he did But i think it's telling that after the el salvador game he was mckennie was one of the guys preaching accountability and responsibility and the fact that he wasn't walking the walk on that i think rubbed a lot of people the wrong way and so i..

"For seventy percent of the game. Now all of a sudden you have to defend it. He doesn't look comfortable doing that. Pulisic was quite. I don't think that's saying anything. I don't think that's a hot take. But i also don't think the united states was as fluid going forward now. I felt like giovanni riina had a better tournament semifinal finals if you combine them he was more impactful and games. He was willing to drop deeper in the hole but politic's the game changer. Pulisic has the pace off the ball. Logistics the guy that can run off your number nine whether it's sergeant or whoever is up front and so. He's the one in the blink of an eye that can change the game. He can turn over the game and then all of a sudden. The game's going in your favor. Gregg berhalter has to find a way guys to get more touches. And i don't think he's putting him politic for that matter in the prime spot to do this in the best games. We've seen politic play for the us men's national team particularly in woke up poll flying in two thousand eighteen. He was actually playing as a second ford a number ten in a four. Three one whatever you want to say. It was underneath. Josie and he had the freedom to just go find the game. Go get into the game. Do something right through the middle and impact the game now. A lot of people will say herk. I've seen you do this. And it's right for chelsea a wide player. I get that however for the united states. I'm not so sure you need him to play wide if giovanni rain is that kind of player the way is they've got to find a way to get politic involved more in sub you're right it was a quiet game in my opinion from pulisic and yet it doesn't matter because he bared the most important penalty in that game. If i could briefly here. I actually thought when they did that. Three centreback back line. The two wing backs that they would play josh sergeant and almost two tenths very narrow. Wingers like he does it chelsea. I thought that would have been better for players like christian pulisic ngo on giovanni rain. And when you have wingbacks because then it gives them the liberty to kind of overlap. You and to play off you. I was very stunned when i saw him. Isolated and you saw how ineffective now. We saw the ranks rate. There he was. I a lot of team team ranks for the us men's national. You had a very underwhelming final. As far as good football good play. They won the game but by no means was that aesthetic. Can we talk a little bit. we talked about even horvath off the top. Here let me take you back to like two thousand nineteen early two thousand nineteen so early days of gregg berhalter and i were doing a game i think in in arizona and we have these the day before the match kind of behind behind the scenes chats with the manager and one of the takeaways from that was he said there was an open competition for goalie. And i really believed in. And eventually zack stephanie. Kind of locked down the number one job and didn't really seem like there was much. Competition zack steph gets hurt it's scary. Because it's one of those non contact knee injuries. Then ethan horvath comes on and does what he does. A is this number one job for the us now up in the air with what like eighteen months ago to the world cup. Better be but absolutely better. Be because what we've seen from zacks stephan look at the fa cup semifinal guys you you see him make one decision coming off. His line. he.

"Seventy percent trust the sort of other. How do you feel about that night. Great i i actually thought i thought mark and brooks looked good as appearing in the middle but the problem was was there. Were still these moments. Where just was getting forward. And they're having to kind of like they couldn't quite and they were getting dragged out of that space. So i understand three was going to protect you but even still you could find the little soft spots. Mexico is finding over the top looking in behind. And just turning these guys around and saying you want to go chase and tune down tech petito. You want to chase him to the corner like that will. We'll play that game day. Linas we want to isolate you one on one and those wide spaces where we're going to have some trouble So i i just think i'd rather pick my to even from a continuity standpoint have to centreback that you believe now. I do believe that is an open competition. Maybe it's richards maybe it's zimmerman. Maybe it's you know whoever might be. But i still. I don't know i'd love to be wrong and see the three work but that three pairing clearly did not work. It just didn't have the mobility to get to put those fires in the in the white space third one last thing. Which is i would like to see timothy way actually start at wingback and play that role for him. It's not his natural spot but it hasn't been for other guys who have played it for us as well but the way he worked yesterday and then what he can do going forward. If if no one else assis- seizing that role might not be a bad spot. If this is a formation we play in the future. We hit one hour just now. We have even talked at all about the number nine position. We have a ton of stuff which is good we all we take a step back urge. rj hacks is coming out. And he's saying look. I don't think sergeants getting credit or getting noticed for the work. He does put in the positions. He's in the fact that the ball didn't either arrive at the right time or arrive at all. Vin smith comes back and says he thinks just sergeant is ineffective against hundred in mexico and then elder hasek is hit us up and saying his decay getting in the in that that costa rica game do they owe this to him. He got a photo. We ought metal from him. Does it warn. A start against costa rica. What do you want to see against costa rica. how about that instead of belaboring the points. We've already made about The performances of just sergeant in the previous two matches what. What would you like to see. In costa rica. from a center forward position. I've been wanting to see decay from the beginning. I just think he brings something different. And yes you know. Doyle made a good point about how the First goals created just long. Throw from West mckinney and. Josh sergeant makes an alert running behind Tries to cut it back in. It leads to a corner kick..

"Us got a little bit desperate and as a honduras intention of playing for penalties became more and more evident In general like i agree with you there were there was a lot of lethargy. Isn't the right word. Maybe committee in terms of taking space. And then you will in particular like the question with the jackson. You'll was supposed to be. Can he do a defensively. We want him out there for his passing but can he do it defensively. I actually thought he was better. Defensively these past two games than he was in his distribution derision. These these past few games didn't add anything for the. Us attack defensively. He was exposed for quickness a couple of times. And that's one of the thing. It's like with sergio desk. You choose to live with that because of what he adds in attack while if he's not going to add in attack then he's gonna fall down the depth chart and maybe that's what we saw for the last ten minutes when kellyn acosta came on but if you if we go back and we roll those chances from the first half again you'll see like g arena is in on the keeper. All he has to do with sidefooted over to josh sergeant for a top in like. That's that's the goal right there. And then obviously this was just you know. shaw zack. Stephan absolutely flailing and know making a a non dangerous situation into almost the goal But then the politic well it politic takes the extra touch and decides to try to go five hole on the on the keeper instead of just like square wrote. The roller like lager rolled across the six-yard box and sergeant hasn't happened so like these moments right here. The build up was really good. I thought the i thought all the attackers were in the right spot. I thought there was just of sharpness and a little bit of selfishness and then as they hit the thirty thirty fifth minute mark that kind of fed into a level of in terms of what they were doing with the ball and what they were doing off the ball and it became very look. We've seen this game happening. Kaka calf quite a bit over the years and you just it takes a level of mental toughness. This is something that we talked about in the pre game space. David remember we were talking about okay. We know that there's gonna be some lovely buildup but who's going to be tough enough to win that dual in score that kinda crappy goal. Well this one was actually a very nice goal but you we. We didn't have that level of toughness. And that's why these games are important because we're getting these reps for this very young team in against one of the best teams concha kept. Were getting it in now before world cup qualifier starch and on sunday. We're going to get it in presumably against mexico and win or lose that is going to be a valuable ninety minutes because the only thing that matters is world cup qualifying you only thing that matters and i really do feel like ninety minutes that we saw tonight gets us closer to being a team that knows what it takes to qualify out of world it out of it for the world cup out of this region. This was a dress rehearsal really. I mean it was. There were stakes. It wasn't the same stakes. Imagine if the. Us gets us enroll cup qualifying in denver one. Nothing nobody cares. You might be gnashing of teeth because there always is but it'll be three points and three away from honduras by the way you mentioned this young team. It is the second youngest and a competitive game for the us national team. The first youngest was in a game that did not matter whatsoever..

Yeah we got a competitive game coming up soon. So yeah there. We go the only two things that i'll say about this before. We move on with regards to john brooks i get the sense. They didn't have tyler adams. He's dealing with a back injury. Really really tricky one to yes. Oh i don't know what his availability will be moving forward. But i do think not. Having him hurts as you would expect. He's a very good player. And i think he he does provide some cover for that back. Line i wonder if maybe bear halter. Almost wanted to expose john brooks at times and see okay is he can he be our ruben diaz. Like a guy who can leave a little bit on an island and allow players to bomb forward because we have this guy at the back. Who can do those things. And maybe we're finding out brooks's really good. Maybe he's not quite to the level they were hoping to a and you make a good point if he's going to be operating on the same site is sergio desk he can expect to be. Oh yeah. I'm not swear you would like a number six. Maybe in the liverpool style you can slide in and make sure the full back position is covered even if desktops called high up the field but Yeah not great just overall not great. The the last thing. I'll say on and it's going to be something that we keep an eye on for half nations league certainly We all like josh sergeant. And we all think that there's a really good player in there and we all want to see him succeed desperately. He's part of this young youth movement for the us. He's coming along at the same time. He's the same age as a lot of these guys and we want it to work with all these guys but at some point it is fair to ask questions you know. He's not scoring a ton of goals at club level. "On those u twenty world cups. You missed opportunities. There's a reason josh. Sergeant had a great u twenty world cup even signs for for the team. That name escaping me It'll come to me. We were josh. Sergeant vertebra everybody. Thank you Signed for vertebra so you know. It's it those opportunities matter because they give a chance to sort of exposing they give a chance to give players to get to other to other teams And i think you missed out on lozada opportunity so the olympics can still provide that opportunity because it is a u twenty three tournament I think it's still does. It does sort of matter if the us can get through this Get to the olympics. It is a showcase it is a chance to get eyeballs sort of on the us team along with the women's team It it's sort of not fair. I guess the qualification. In how you get there Because it is literally like you you they could. They could win their group and then they could lose one game. And that's it. And you know they could lose on penalties in that semifinal game and like that's it they're out so I'll be curious. I'll be curious you. They play And who they can get out there. I thought they looked like they sort of got it together. A little bit in the republic. I'll be curious to see how they come out. Mexico i think jason crisis talked about wanting to beat mexico We'll we'll see. It's it's in mexico right now. So it's it's it's certainly homefield will not be on their side but this is likely to be their hardest game. Yeah so how. How do against matters much more than they did in the previous two games. So what's you know. If they're gonna play. I would like them to win yet is my unofficial position of a. Us soccer fan now. A new us men's soccer fan basically or he. Reborn just win baby. Keep this drive to survive to quote a formula one Keep him in the bundesliga. So we'll see a we were hoping for. We're for hopeless sleeker. In america you got a lot of americans are. I'll come to that in a bit but helpless over the last Probably since from when we started the podcast. Till now it's it's grown a hundredfold obviously having some americans in the past like christian pulisic and mckennie. They help bring people in but It's growing more. And more. And i think the bundesliga clubs are doing well to themselves over here and connect with the local clubs. I know of shoka We work with the All the local fan groups that are in different cities. I mean i. I probably get like ten cents. I've taught my head in the us and canada Who have fan clubs and we're on consultation with each other. And i think the clubs do really well to reach out to these fan bases Back into time before cove it we will do watch parties and stuff like that now. It's like zoom parties So i think all the bundesliga clubs do really good job of reaching out to americans andrew sanders talent pool coming from this from this generation And they're really trying to tap into that and i think the market is the country's wants to be a football country European football on right now in american football country in baseball country and and stuff like that but Not the the hunger for the sport is there You've seen it in some of these areas can't city and some other where it's like so many fans get together and they celebrate she when the us men's national team play or it will use women's team plays but it's growing so much especially with all americans like josh sergeant and all americans that are in the leah currently in Of the two leagues to most links. I would say Americans featuring i would say obviously english in england with the premier league or with the bonus lega so Yeah i think what the boondoggle dozen as a as a whole Really help to grow the sport here in the united states. You've got a lot of young american players coming crewmen you've got ingested abundance legal. I can think of some elect five hoppy mention to raina. Yeah i'm forgetting the other guy who's at Would have put him in. Josh josh sergeant it just the bundestag has a good place to harvest at talent and get to the next level. I think some players. I mean even erling hallen. He came here because he knew he knew. In the bundesliga was a league that he can develop his skills even further And and the type of play in the bundesliga is conducive to learning and getting better. And we'll see that with all young americans that they are thriving in this type of this type of atmosphere and as an american i. I'm saying i'm excited to see that. Every time i seen american Play in scorer. Hopefully nothing shoutout but you know when excoriated deciding to see you know because you hope. Oh maybe that's a potential future national team member there so A lot of good talent around bundesliga from from the american side wasn't mckinney's already with you. Event is so You know has done really well. Events former shock former shock player And then. Brian reynolds as of lot of good things about him. He's been wanted by lots of clubs..
