"Josh Robert Welcome to mental. Your hello thank you for having me so we're GONNA be talking about anxiety today. Quite an in depth I will. When did you first start experiencing anxiety yourself will so in a major way It really started me the morning after. I'VE BEEN TO A PARTY. So sounds quite unlikely. But prior to that I suppose it'd been nervous ish child but I'd never been I'd never had like maybe tiny panic attack so what you would associate with what I would now identifies a panic attack but really for me. It was kind of always completely final. Seemingly fine went to a party wake up the next morning and everything had kind of collapsed. The any idea what triggered that I didn't know I think it's a combination of genetic factors so I think if you poke around my family history. Logunov you'll see a lot of on diagnosed condemns with the Times but sort of mental health problems and then so I think it's probably sort of underlying and then yeah. I was sort of conference of lots of different things out of state in a job that I wasn't particularly joying maybe too long. I wasn't exercising. Tula losing a lot not really sleeping and so I think I was probably already slightly predisposed and then the policy push me. How did yet she actually fail on that morning? You describe it. Yeah I mean it was like waking up into if you seen a movie where they kind of an actor or character wakes up startled and it. It was basically like that. Wake up into a panic attack and like I said had sort of miniature panic attack previously this what must just complete next level in terms of the intensity of it say panic attacks on that different for different people but for me it's like an intensely physical experience stomach knotted breath. You know very short heart pumping going nuts is dilated skinny sweaty clammy hall but called less sort of thing And then accompanying physical. Tara is a very singular mental one. Which is the idea that at some point. Olis' physical stuff with my body is going to become too much and I'm GonNa have a heart attack will will pass out and lots of people very common people. Think of panic attacks when they're in the most being heart attacks and th- reality is thankfully whilst that terrifying No one started a panic attack yet so it was extremely intense and long so usually panic attack could last for thirty seconds minutes when I'd had these little tremors before this one was three or four hours. Oh my goodness yeah. It was really intense and it was sort of. Come maybe it would subside fractionally and then it would you know. Sort of new wave would come would sort of appear see. It was pretty grim. I went to I went obviously went to an e a bunch of times with three different times to the and Went to see two different. Nhs GP's this'll general prognosis and it's not their fault you know then. It just isn't at the moment setup to deal with problems like this but This sort of general prognosis that it was that it was a hangover. Gone wrong And you know the prescription was cup of tea and get a good night's sleep so think promos couldn't sleep so Five days after five days off the initial thing having badly slats and been in a constant state of panic I ended up going to To see a private GP just coughed up the cash and And he very quickly diagnosed me with a generalized anxiety disorder after that initial fairly long. Panic attack then manifest. Yes we moved. It went from being kind of immediate fear about dying to being an mall. Will generalize guess all pervasive fear of pretty much anything say the definition of a Generalized anxiety disorders will obviously worry about forget anything so things like getting fired or getting dumped to Get a whole bunch of really. Would they call sensory motor stuff so I worry about forgetting to breathe or not being able to swallow or being constantly live to the rhythm of blinking and things like that so you have those initial worries and then what you do? Is You worry about those worries. This is slightly difficult concept to grasp. But it's the idea that your normal people might worry about. Not Sleeping Normal. Invited comments people like me. Worry we'll spend our whole lives worrying about not sleeping. Does that make sense? It's like a second order. Almost derivative of the original worry and then the third thing is guilt. Say you find this with people who suffer from anxiety disorders and depressive conditions. And things like that where you look at your life. And what on earth do I have to worry about? And of course the reality is nothing but it's a disease or disease but it's a condition something that exists outside of me and therefore it's not really my fault takes a while to get. How did you deal with everyday life through this? I would say in the in the initial I sort of five days a very badly so I was badly sleeping. I didn't see anyone So I I was couldn't sick to work. Actually that's not true. I did go in occasionally but I would get their run into the Lou after a few minutes. Run into the losing sort of burst into tears. Kind of thing and then make excuses shuffle. It stayed really bad for me for about a year and so after a couple of weeks I started to develop. I don't K- ping mechanisms but ways of seeming fine externally whilst crumbling entirely and so. It's something I talk about quite a lot in the book. Is this idea that you really can be fine. Externally and be disintegrating internally and lots of friends of sets me having read the book. I feel terrible that we didn't know we couldn't spots or didn't realize it was as bad as it was. You know you said you had a problem but it was. It was as bad as it was. And the answer is not not an partly consciously. You're trying to cover covered up because you don't want to be have a problem. You know wants to be problem but also because actually It that's just the nature of it. Is You know. Come for me. At least it's very real duality to it And so yes in your question Obviously a bit of a mess for the first couple of weeks and then after that I think I started to get better. It are the disguising it or living with. When did you decide? You want to shad this sort of writing about intending people about it. I was always really chatty about it and I think that is slow maybe slightly old for particularly blokes to to be open about it in a way. I was lucky it was as bad as as walls because I had to. I didn't have an option. You know when you will spending an hour of every day at work in the lose crying You'll boss get slightly suspicious. You know either. You've got a bowel complaint or a cocaine addiction or something that means you against the latest much and so eventually I had to. I I started talking about it with people and once you've said it once again it's just my experience but once spoken about it once it gets each time you did it gets easier and easier and then. I the writing of the book came. I had been talking to a friend. Who's a journalist so I used to work in advertising and I was talking to a journalist at the same newspaper and he'd had a similar problem to me and he suggested. Oh you should you should write about. This wasn't something I'd really considered but I pitched it to see to the Times newspaper. He published the article and we just had this incredible reaction to it so too. I mean hundreds of messages from people around the world and on the back of that someone else to a book so called anxious man at what you cover on it. We talk about all sorts. So it's kind of rooted in my own experience. I hope that it's funny book. So they're all jake's which isn't necessarily the most obvious is doesn't obviously make a A sort of topic will vector for telling jokes but it is humorous. But it's kind of starting from my own experience. What's it like to live through the moment that I described earlier? Where you wake up to realize that your mind has collapsed. What's it like to experience? full-scale disintegration of the mental faculty And then Haji about getting better and I'm convinced that the things that stop you from having one of these things in the first place are the same things that help you to get better and so. I hope that the book is of course helpful for people who've had this problem was similar problems. But if you haven't their lessons in there hopefully Would be helpful. We also look at interesting thing you know would pick around things like social media. We look at the new cycle and how that affects mental health. Sleep BLUES. Stuff about what? How did he pass me in terms of getting better? So I would say the the kind of anchor in me getting better and there's a number of different stages but primarily for me. It's been a combination of cognitive behavioral therapy Which doesn't what form but for me. It's just been incredible. Changing my relationship with alcohol completely. Say become a complete bowl. Well not a complete at that Aussie things like exercise Say fairly standard stuff I will say maybe in the most when you have a problem. That's as longtime or rather when you have a problem that is immediate is mine was like yours at the start. What was the trigger? You spend a whole lot of time trying to figure out okay. What's the exact thing that caused this problem? And actually I would say one of the key components of my own recovery is accepting the there may not be a particular trigger that this might just be completely random and once you've realized that you can let go of the search for the specific combination of things that make giving you anxiety and start to get better.

"Eight by five two one two four two two seven is the number to get on offense our good friend Chris Ross all from the fan one of six seven in DC our nation's capital and he's on a red skin is podcast the guys all over the place is back on events Hey don't press how's everything brother all it's going great man Hey listen you know I I didn't get a chance to say this last time but I'm I'm not you know set of my thoughts and and and my condolences to you in on everything you've been through so lots want to let you know I was thinking about that Chris so let's let's talk about your article today about like at lunch time about case Keenum yeah and you believe that at the end of the day he's going to be behind center week one yeah I do you know Scott here's the deal look they listed colt McCoy he's been here for all five of Jay Gruden's years now going into your six so that dude knows the offense better than anybody right I mean he knows it better than were as good as Jay Gruden and the new offense of coordinator Kevin o'connell is gonna be a head coach in this league in a year or two we like the next Sean McVay so I have no doubt that colt McCoy is most comfortable guy in the system and he's been around the league and he can play quarterback and what I call ms a higher then thrown right he's gonna make a lot of plays and he's also gonna make a lot of bad reason a lot of stupid decisions and gonna try and fire balls in the windows NT shorten and he's going to turn the ball over but what do you do Scully is he can't stay on the field the last time America saw him was December the third Monday Night Football against the Philadelphia Eagles it's just taken over the starting job less than two weeks before any cracks of leg not only does he cracked his works out pretty up like three procedures afterward after that he missed the entire offseason program again not that big of a deal because he knows the offense but how do they trust this guy to stay on the fuel and that's just one of many incidents that he's hurt everybody remembers the nasty Schaden concussion he hadn't Cleveland in two thousand fourteen as first year here when Josh Robert Griffin third was still struggling to try and stay on the field yeah the neck injury when he took over the starting spot he's been beaten out by her cousins she's been bypassed a couple times I don't know how the Redskins are going to twenty nineteen a make or break year and stay off that's our guy I just don't get it and then he was even banged up on Monday it says there yeah what happened there yeah so he he tripped and fell why wouldn't there you know and they took him out for precautionary reasons even as the end of practice but he did practice in Seoul today for rental they only had one practice and you know you look pretty good you know like pretty pretty good from everything I understand so you know he's been up and down in camp olds route not yet maybe some of our surplus from not having a regular all season but I mean if to me the way I look at it is if you're going to put him over Q. skewed my god we started thirty one out of the last thirty two games granite with two different teams the Vikings of course taken to be honest the championship and then simmer couldn't wait to get rid of him and then over to Denver and hell we couldn't get which looked on I'm I'm not thinking of him as any great shakes here I'm sinking in on this whole liable to Stephen could stay on the field you look at all the numbers you mentioned that article that I put people can check it out at the same PC dot com and you know it it's all over still little search for you know all of his career number side by side or better than colt McCoy now the obvious question is war the second one what about touring Hoskins Scott I'm telling I mean everything I everything I know everybody that I talked to this guy's got a ways to go in terms of commanding the hall and wait for and getting everything I guess organized and wind up at the line of scrimmage all the little things that quarterbacks have to do that I guess we kind of tend to forget about when you just look at the box score look at what kind of throws they can make so I really truly feel this that's her way battle not a three way battle for the Redskins starting job Chris Russell from the fan in DC so the word is essentially what you're telling me is that Haskins has been last name tantalizing so far yeah I would say that you know I would say that's a fair characterization unless it's got he's gonna make some great throws you might see one or two of them on Thursday night in Cleveland right yeah I mean does that really matter it against a bunch of nine to five hand in a grocery backers you know I mean what what does that matter right I I mean what matters is can you get in and out of the hollow can you get all the verbiage how can we get everybody Wanda can you make the checks can you slide protect can you check out a please and certain books and certainly I don't expect him to do wall that you group doesn't expect them to do that but I'll I'll just say this October Jay Gruden said he walked in the door I he is just happened and is Luke warm and his endorsements and his quotes in these words about doing Haskins as you can possibly be you fly I don't know if you're doing that just tempering expectations I'm not sure but the bottom line is I don't think she thinks you're ready I don't think anybody that I've heard from thinks he's truly ready and to release him for the households against the Philadelphia Eagles the Dallas Cowboys and the Chicago Bears week one week two week three week three be in on Monday Night Football that's just utterly insane I'm sorry it's absurdly insane if anybody thinks that's a good recipe for success syzygy I just had a is twelve it's for nothing matches ever just go we'll talk about that in a minute do you know about this so they're playing at Thursday night against the Browns and did you see this thing about I even may know more about it than I do but I think it's interesting the predicted game telecasts that they do on this and see you know as watching a blast channel that giving away money every quarter like they're basically they're running a gambling broadcaster during the NFL preseason game that's awesome if you ask me what's going on there I was gonna say it's going to speak to you it's going to speak to you Scott you know because you're you're more into that stuff than I am but I think it's a cool initiative that the Redskins are trying to get out in front of as being the first NFL team involved in this now the reason why they're allowed to do this during the preseason is because they control their own may authorize those broadcast rights NBC sports Washington which is there I guess official cable TV partner produces and and and and broadcast of the four preseason games they did this with the wizards regular season games so what they do is they have two channels right so they produce a regular game broadcast on and then they produce an alternate game broadcast in on this alternate game broadcast you they put up all sorts of little prop bets you know it is a dream you know I I don't think it's rude Peterson is going to play and I don't even know if there is guys can play but like what's it going Haskins right will doing asking for for fifty yards well I in the in the second quarter more or you know whatever some sort of little prop bad right people can interact in the I guess the chime in on the broadcast so you know like it's coming in you can go to their website your my T. nap and all that stuff so it's kind of a cool thing to counter in gauging promote fan interaction one Austrians can win a little bit of money certainly a day and age where more people are watching games on television and going to games and I know this games in Cleveland not in Washington it makes sense and it's a way to get the red skins can get ahead of the curve even the cowboys were normally ahead of the curve on this type of thing so I actually think it's pretty cool listen listen can you can you do another one with me because I still want to talk about the nationals with you can you come back yeah whatever let's do an update will come back and talk more with Chris Ross I when asked about the traveling and situation as well I will say this Kairi just sent it to me that broadcast they're doing on Thursday night against around the Redskins that's bottom line the future of of I believe television sports I think you're gonna you're gonna see that a lot like where you have the fantasy sports now is bigger than life right well if you don't think in game batting is huge go to hang out in Vegas for a week and then I agree with you got ride that it's going to be the future of smart you gonna watch a game to get be able to sit there and bad on it while you're watching it the whole game with corners and everything every play every bass they're going to find ways just like this to do it themselves yeah I have your be dealing with the the casinos are and they're gonna be running this thing he does well that's right and then you're a television they won't even matter to you who wins the game you'll you'll be counted Benjamins let's get an update with Peter's words which way and we begin in New York for the match just keep on winning sweat dried we.

"Josh, you will spend attorney with your namesake's throughout history. You enter a little nervous at first. But look there's Josh Brolin sharing laugh with Josh Gort Grogan wondering what they're talking about. Don't worry. You will have all time to hear everyone of the stories. Look, there's Los Angeles outfielder Josh Hamilton, Indianapolis Colts return specialist, Josh cribs and Miami Heat power forward. Josh Roberts discussing the virtues of their respective sports. Oh my God over there. It's Josh Holloway who played Sawyer in lost. That's fantastic. You always wanted to know what was up with the end of that show. Now, you can ask one of the principal actors. He's in a group with Josh Hartnett. Josh Lucas, Josh Duhamel discussing film theory. Can't wait to get in on that you do notice. Joshua, the OG biblical Joshua standing all by himself in full battlegear wonder what that's all about a couple more familiar faces here and there, but by and large there are only a few dozen Josh's you recognize among the countless thousands milling about with their half-full Martinez. No matter you will get to know them all all their stories all their interests. You have attorneys. After all. And so the will pass before you know, it to things will become painfully apparent to you most people named Josh are achingly boring, and there there are only a few black people and no women named Josh. Pending on your racial inclination and sexual orientation that may be good news. However, one thing is for certain it does make for pretty boring conversation. Turns out turns out that Josh Holloway has no idea. What happened at the end of loss? Does he was on a two year meth binge at the time, and he's just as much of an over actor in person and God damn it? If you have to hear Josh Berlin talk about the making of sin city a Dame to kill for one more fucking time. Oh, and the reason that Joshua's all by himself. He's an astounding racist new as for the film theory discussion by the assembled actor. Josh is the only thing they can all agree on is that godfather three was the best in the trilogy and the prequels are underrated. Now, Josh you may want to curse your parents for not naming you Harrison or Theodore earnest, but take a deep breath. Remember that they could have made things much worse for you by naming you Donald Adolf or Mark now. Get back there and mingle. And remember as the maddening and has had is it might be to be with all of history's joshes. You are always will be one of them. Enjoy. You know, the the the least plausible thing in that entire heaven is that there's only one racist. Josh. I feel like I feel like I can't get onboard with that. Well, a most racist. That's right. Right. Okay. And now the and now I've bitterly regret not turning to Doug and saying, and Doug, I I need a heaven for Tim just so that justified with you, I double check them. Like, I'm making sure it's. So congratulations. Josh joy. You are you are in for a treat once the Joshua's come at you. And now Mark you have to give a heaven to seventeenth angry democrat. "In as when needed. So it's not excessive. So so he doesn't take those big shots that he just can impact you down the road. Bruce you watch the game yesterday from the sidelines. What did you see about the Detroit Lions and Matt Patricia program? They're trying to get going over there. I mean, Matt Stafford we Murph, and I have watched Matthew Stafford at least once a year in the preseason for his entire career. We think the guy can really sling it, but they're really struggling offensively. Yeah. Look, I mean in fairness to match Stafford. I mean when we sat down with him on Saturday. He has trouble getting in out of his chair. His back is bad. He was banged up. Pretty good. So, you know, they a lot of ways with the exception of the quarterback experience. I feel like they do mirror. What you see what the Bill? I think they have a really good defensive line. I think that they have some key pieces in place but skill position wise around the quarterback, I feel like they don't they don't have time to work with. I mean, Kenny golladay good second-year receiver. He struggled pastor Peterson the week before he had a big game obviously yesterday. But then you can just look they're pretty limited in the backfield. And I think that's hard when you're Puerto batch hurt. I just think that you know, they have some good pieces. But this is the best, you know, six when team right now. And I think that, you know, Patricia has got I think they got to be patient with them because there's been some positives. But at the same point. You look at it. I mean snack Harrison has made a difference in their defense. I think their defense is is is really going to be good as some good young players to to build around. But again, it reminds me a lot of the bills with exceptionally the experience quarterbacks by which is going to give you concern when he's been in there ten years, and it's like you want to see you wanna see some breakthrough right now. I don't see the lion getting close to break through last question. I have for you deals with another buffalo Bill another first round Buffalo Bills player remain Edmonds who you tweeted out today that is Alabama fans would be happy to see the way. He's just to the game. He had a pretty good game yesterday. Tremaine did didn't he? Yeah. I mean, look he's a big long or Dan mortgage like, you know, kids six five to fifty plus, you know, he's just turned twenty or he's still twenty. He's maybe two hundred sixty five pounds sixty pounds, and he can really run, and you just don't see the kind of length in the middle of the defense that he has the other things that I think abode really well, Leslie Frazier. They talk about his maturity is calm demeanor. And that's something that I think that you know, as you're talking about building around the around this defense, we have some young guys in the secondary the maturity that he has he's got a really awesome future there because of his rare combination a gifts that he has to go with the demeanor and the want to I mean, everybody we talked to Williams. Louis forever. You know, all the coaches the people in the personnel department. Everybody was high on Edmunds and in what they think he can do and what he's doing right now. I said Alabama. I meant for junior tech sorry about that sounds like you talk to everybody in the bills organization when you're up here, Bruce. Well, we're trying to go deep as we could mean is crazy in the middle of the game. Because I'm a college guy the running back at OU and the running back coach at Texas. Am just to try to find more about the fourth string running back because I knew he had been both places. And you just never know what you may need in. The course of the broadcast. Haber sanctuary and we didn't show couple years ago about the book, and I tell people it's really the the source for figuring out who's going to play quarterback in the NFL your book. And and we thank you for writing that. Thank you spend a few minutes on the show this year today. We appreciate it. My pleasure. Thanks, guys. Who have a lot of fun? Bruce feldman. Joining us from Los Angeles book is the QB the making of modern quarterbacks. And we thank you for joining us today on the subway fresh take hotline subway, eat fresh, I read that book Steve. And it's it's it's a little technical. But a lot of it is is stories about recent quarterbacks a lot of it west coast based, but just you know, where they go to get trained, and and how they train, and and and I guess the part that got me most of all was how early the recruitment and training period begins for top level quarterbacks. I we're talking seventh and eighth graders who get noticed this guy can play. We've gotta get him. And I've said it before to Josh Allen a lot Cam Newton when they're out there playing quarterback. A little bit. Like, Ben Rothlisberger. Kind of the biggest tallest kid on the field. And it's like a fifteen year old plane with twelve year olds, you know. And when that happens at younger ages, and the coaches put that big strong fast kid that can throw the football back there. It's gotten to the point where they don't see it used to be. All the big guys got put it running biking hand the ball and they'd run it. But now you give him the ball, and they can throw it and run it and they put him at quarterback at younger ages. And if you're the best kid you're going to get a shot to play that position. And if you if you hang in there long enough, all of a sudden, you're fourteen years old, and he got people approaching about getting trained or your or your seeking them out or giving advise to do it. So it's it goes deep. I mean, this is like hoops, you know, they they get these kids set aside when they're six seventh graders and an and life takes off from there. Have you ever done that texted while you were doing a games sideline reporting a coach to get information on a player who's in the game? Right. I mean, you you almost had to write a fourth the fourth string running back. I mean, what are you gonna you can't flip through the game? You know, the the media guide, it'd be a bad look, right right through the media. But it's true, you if you try and find out things, but also we'll have guys in the truck that will we'll call back and say, hey, what's the story with this guy? Where's he from? And if he is somebody, you know. Still too late on the sidelines for me to do that. Because they never answer right there watching watching. They're watching games. Yeah. Hey Twitter poll today who was the MVP for the bills in yesterday's win. One point win over the lions, you can give us a call. Let us know what you think. Eight three zero five fifty toll free one eight eight five fifty to five fifty you can tweet in a response. We might read it on our tweet you can vote in the Twitter poll who is the bills MVP in yesterday's win. Over the lions the Twitter poll. Fifty one percent of you say it's the quarterback. Josh Allen was the most valuable player. Thirty percent say it was wide receiver. Robert Foster twelve percent say safety. Jordan poi- guests in the first hour of the show seven percent of you. That's all say Lorenzo Alexander. This don't you think give us a call? Let's discuss let's go to Trent in Rochester. Hello, Trent, welcome. You're on the air with us. Thanks, guys. And I'm the guy. That's always given your shame. I deserve it. But also, you Di Di to to the point where I do not know what Bill. What do without your show got seriously? Wow. So off Trent. No, I mean banner day. A win doesn't opens up all this. Goodwill for Steve. The the late great van Miller used to say, and we're going to get back. You try them cut van used to say to me Murph when they win. We're the best. We're the best damn announcers in the NFL when they when the bills lose were something else. That's true. Yeah. That's the way it goes. What's on your mind Trent? I wanna make the point. Josh Allen wasn't protected. The play this year. Foster was his favorite receiver. They were both down the depth chart. And of course, dash Sally was able to get out and crack the starting lineup. A lot of chemistry that I'm not hearing a lot of people talk about because they were both it was stolen. So remember all good near fingertip touchdown passes. Josh Robert that he missed. Yeah. He put it right there. So he was showing inability to of course, everyone was just against string competition. He can do that on anybody at any given time. So my main point I'm making a day is that a lot of time together, and it's only gonna get better. So you're seeing the result of them being together down on the depth chart. Both pulled out which I think is great now they're both daughters. And it's just I feel like a proud father guy. And you know, it is a good point. They worked together during the bye week. Right. When everybody else kind of cleared out the bills got a lotta time off during the bye week just a month or so ago, and they work together they stayed here. Robert Foster stayed here is Joshua's bouncing back from his injury. So yeah, that was needed somebody to throw tune Robert Foster said, I'll do it. It's interesting too and trim brings up a good point about the reps that they got together. And I think it's one of the things we look back on. Maybe that has that has hurt other guys on the bills about not getting opportunities and not having a chemistry with Josh Allen, most notably. We spoke about earlier, Charles clay. He can't not only did he work with Nate Peterman. Derek candidate all the guys that were starting before Josh got in and then with Josh he didn't practice much because of his because of his age because of his knee that he has to they have to monitor really closely. He doesn't get as many reps as these young guys who are undrafted rookie free agents because he just can't practice enough. And that's one of the reasons. Perhaps he hasn't been as effective at tied in with Josh Allen in there either. But certainly the more times you throw to a player the MO and when the chips are down in you're under pressure. The ability to know what that guy's gonna do. Because you've thrown to him a million times is invaluable, and it, and it leads to more opportunities for that. And I think there's no question that Robert Foster and Josh Allen, proven it. He's got a call here. Hi, how you with rules, Iran? I don't know. I know I feel the same way. Well, let's take Kevin in Rochester. I kevin. I think I know what you're going to ask you about. Go ahead. Kevin you're on the air this. Hey, guys. How you doing? It's a real pleasure to be honest with you right now. My my question was my question was is. Yeah, you probably know what I'm talking about. There's two thirty eight left in the game and Allen may set. Nice little floated a chrome. He catches it for the first down in the lions only had one time out and they call the penalty, but the bills obviously waved a penalty and the clock doesn't that? He's caught. He's tackled. Inbound the o'clock stopped and we're trying to grind the clock out. And then the game, and I'm thinking great, we're gonna we're gonna maybe burn the clock down at ten minutes or the lines are gonna have to burn their last time out. They don't burn their last time out, you know, and the clock just sits there after they went apparently the clock just insert to thirty eight. And I I noticed that thought I started somewhere thing happened in the past Steeler game last night near when the killings were trying to run some clock. You know, what you need and ask about the play. I thought you're gonna ask about Kevin. And I'm looking it up here. There was a penalty flag thrown on that play. Glover Quin was on the plate and the past a chrome the big pickup the second nine bills at their own twenty five twenty five yards. Do jason. Groom a penalty on Glover Quin for defensive holding which the bills the client is they got twenty points. Yeah. Without you would think normally that if the penalty was declined that they would start the clock. But they don't if there's a penalty call whether it's accepted or declined the clock. Stay stopped. Yeah. Isn't that kind of funny because that's like helping the lions like, okay? So they get a holding. And they're getting help on that play. Because I was like, wait a minute. Did I miss how many time outs? They they blow time out there real quick. And I'm like, I just doesn't seem doesn't seem fair to any team trying to run the clock down. It's okay for the bills because think about it if it was a third in two or third in three and they they run that play. And it's a five yard penalty. Will they get the first down anyway? And or if it's not they get a replay the down. So you're gonna lose that time anyway, and the bills could certainly choose. So they got not only the time that the first play took off the clock. They also get the time for the replay of third down a replay of second down on the penalty. So they don't stop the. They don't start the clock whenever there's an infraction. Even if it's declined thanks very much. Let's go to Terry and Niagara Falls. Hello dairy. Welcome to the show. Carey. Yeah. Are you doing? Hi, you're on the air. Terry. Yeah. Just calling..

"On the list. Really good. One of the greatest TV shows of all time. Oh, yeah. One of the funniest most brilliant TV shows of all time it all happened because Garry shandling didn't get the gig. You know, what I mean like in real life? That's right. He was up for the tonight show. He didn't get it. And and so that's how Larry Sanders was created. We're talking about the TV a talk show hosts three one two nine eight one seven two hundred any favorite TV talk show host David Letterman, Letterman, right? Yeah. He's the best lead. Yeah. I get. I get annoyed by a lot of the other ones to be honest with you. I I've always loved David Letterman. Yeah. He was he was the best in his show on Netflix. Terrific. If you're if you're I have I have started watching that actually forgot I was watching that I'm gonna have to get back on if you need your Letterman fix because you know, when he was gone for a while. I was like, hey, Anita Indian he went out and just went out and grew the beard didn't care what he looked like a love them. But now did you ever watch? Larry Sanders on HBO. With Garry shandling. Oh, no. But I watched the documentary about it and learned tons of stuff about him. Yeah. He's well. He was he was just I mean, Garry shandling one of the best ever. But that Larry Sanders show was so funny and hilarious. Hilarious. Rip torn come on. Now. And his standup stuff. I had never watched either. Gary Shanley talking about not to get away from the subject, but gosh, man, his stand up was so good brilliant. Garry shandling was brilliant and taken from us walk away too soon. Yeah. He was a big e was I loved Garry shandling. He was one of those and it's Garry shandling show, which was on FOX. Where he broke the fourth wall and drove around the golf cart. In the theme song. This is Larry this is Garry shandling show. This is Gary sandy. The theme song. Right. That's great. But yeah. Larry Sanders was funny, man. And that whole thing that whole subplot involving David company. I mean come on now. David. David the company having a crush on Larry. It really is about you know. I mean, it's it's he's Larry Sanders is one of the most. You know, insecure people in the history of the world and that shown all the time. Here's what here's what they say about shandling new talk shows after a stint as a sitcom writer, he turned to stand up with successful appearances on the tonight show leading to a gig. As one of Johnny's recurring guest host in the eighties. Nineteen Ninety-two shandling mind that desk gagged create Sanders for HBO lampooning with pan. Accuracy, the glorious vanities of late night starring shandling as Sanders rip torn is already and Jeffrey tambor. As hank? Hey, now Kingsley the show was nominated for fifty six Emmys during its six year run. Wow. Today with more late night options in dwindling, big three network audiences. Celebrities, no longer have to genuflect before talk show hosts as they did to Sanders, but shandling skewering of the show biz narcissism and insecurity remain eternal. Yeah. That was that was one of those shows, you know, when. I would when when they would do marathons of them because sometimes HBO would just go to a whole weekend where it was nothing. But Larry Sanders on HBO. I would sit there for hours and watch it because he was just brilliant and all of the all of the celebrity. All of the celebrity people who you know, who would be on the show, they got it. They totally understood the the the sense of humor skewered themselves. I mean, obviously, the besides David Di company there were a ton of other real celebrities who who would be on the show and. Yeah. And it's great. It's just to this day. It's it's still very funny and still very timely today. Even though it's you know, they made it like twenty years ago. Over twenty five years ago was when it was really made I was trying to figure out why why did I ever watched that? When it was on. Because I think if he was on now, he I would watch it every single time it aired. It was during the time. I was overseas in different completely different. I just didn't watch this early nineties. Yeah. This is early ninety. So yeah. But it's it's out there, man. You know, I know what's available on on Blu Ray and on DVD and all that stuff. And I think that HBO has an archived on them. Now, the demand, and I would highly recommend it. If people have not seen Larry Sanders. It's brilliant, really, really brilliant. All right L. Let's see. Now, here's my my my favorite ever. I think I mean besides Letterman, but like. Craig ferguson. I adore Craig Ferguson, and and people who were regularly listeners to the show know that I actually kind of became a part of the show forgive put you in the band. Did. He actually he didn't. It was Josh Robert Thompson Jeffrey Peterson the robot. Skeleton, gay sidekick. But yeah, he named he named the drummer in the band, Nikki d and and I wrote emails, and they read they read but five of my five or six my emails on the show. So I was part of the the the Email and tweet part of the show a bunch of times. And then NICKY Di was was the drummer named after me. Now, the reason I love. Ferguson so much is that he just you know, he he would. He basically through the rules out the window like literally every time. It guest came on. You know, how a lot of a lot of the the game show urged the game show. The the talk show guys have those those blue cards in front of them that have all the questions and where they're gonna go. And he had you know, it's funny because Ferguson did have a staff who wrote those questions, but he never used them. Like every time a guest came out. He symbolically tore up those those those blue cards into pizzas and threw him over his shoulder. I remember him ripping up the cards. I always wondered if it was a bit. Like was there anything on there? But people actually prep them and you're right. And he's still torn up ready writing staff and tore up those cards, and then just winged it, and that was one of the brilliant things about that show is that it really up turned turn those turn the the cliches of your late night talk show on its ears. I mean, obviously, the the gay robot sidekick is fantastic. Josh Robert Thompson, providing the voice of Geoffrey Geoffrey Peterson and. You know, just no rules his monologue. He very I mean, he he had a monologue in again. This is like a, you know, a SAF of writers writing the monologue. And he does maybe two or three jokes that were written form. And then the rest of it is just him. Winging it. Josh Robert Thompson on the show a couple of times. And also my future ex wife, Dana de Lorenzo or did she work? There was on this show. She played she played Beth the CBS executive, right? Who who would try and stop the controversial stuff or the stuff that he couldn't get away with sensor wise, and she she was on the show for a long time. She also did the voice of the rhino one night. But I've talked Dana, you know, my future ex wife, Dan, Lorenzo about what it was like to work on that show. And she said it was it was. You know, just it's it was completely improvised, like whatever bits that they were doing they didn't rehearse them. They just did it right right on the air. And and when she did the the rhino, the voice of the rhino. They just sit here you're gonna do the voice of the rhino tonight. Just get go ahead and do it. And she had the same sort of gear that. That Josh Robert Thompson had operating Jeff Peterson. You know, he had like the remote and everything and she had to do the remote. And so they didn't they didn't prep. They're like, yeah. You're going to do the rhino tonight. And she's like what? But that's the way that that show was man. I mean it through the rules out the window and and. And he was brilliant. I mean, he was just he was absolutely brilliant. And it was so much fun to watch. And it was so fresh. And yeah, I guess Ferguson is way up there on on my heroes list. I love that guy. Let's see when Johnny Carson died. Ferguson had been hosting the late late show for less than three weeks. He was already working without a house band. And then he decided to do away with the other talk show conventions most important, no prepared monologue. No staged questions with the guest later motivated by what he called a deconstructionist's contempt for talk shows. He introduced his side kick Jeff a gay robot with a mohawk. From two thousand five until a couple of years ago. Ferguson was the best host on late night TV through a mix of intelligence honesty, swagger and wit. If late night is a club. I don't want to be a member. He said a Scottish board comedian picked by Peter. Lastly. The TV legend who produced Carson Letterman, Ferguson, fostered anarchy flirted, joyfully with actresses impersonated. Sean Connery played harmonica and had memorable serious moments. A lengthy interview with Bishop Desmond Tutu a poignant eulogy for his parents and a discussion of his alcoholism and a pledge not to make hack jokes about celebrities in in legal trouble because people comedy should attack the powerful and not the vulnerable. One of the most memorable. Moments in monologues that Ferguson had was. When Britney Spears was going through that that time when she was like, she kinda lost your mind. Has had shaved. Yeah. And she was attacking reporters and all that stuff and Ferguson came out. It's one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen in my life. Ferguson came out and said that you know, we're not going to do any Britney Spears jokes. We're not going to do them. And he said because she's in trouble. You know, she's got she she had at that time. She had babies, and and he's like, I'm not we're not gonna do that. I'm not gonna do any Britney Spears jokes. And then he launched into. This. Searingly honest, absolutely beautiful speech about his alcoholism. And at that point. He had been sober for fifteen years at that point. He talked about how on Christmas morning. Nineteen ninety one. He was at a pub and. I'm Ben in regular fashion. News Christmas Eve, he wakes up on Christmas morning, and he's and he's completely still drunk and he's covered in urine. And as he said, I don't know if it was my urine and could have been anybody here. But but he talks about how when he woke up that morning. He's like that said I'm going to kill myself and about how he was gonna jump off the London bridge and kill himself. And so he went downstairs he was standing up in the room upstairs above the pub. And he went downstairs who's about to walk out and the bartender who ran the pub he slept behind the bar too. So it's not like I can't speak for his alcoholism. But if you're sleeping behind a bar on Christmas Eve, you might have a problem. So he's he tells the the the guy who's running the place. He's like, yeah. I'm I'm gonna go. I'm gonna go back home. When I go back home because he was in England. He's like I'm gonna go back home to Scotland he said he can't go back to it's Christmas morning. There's no there's no transportation you won't be able to get back. Once you come back in here and have a Sherry for Christmas morning. So, you know, in in in Ferguson's mind. He's going to kill himself. Like, this is it this is he's definitely going to kill himself. So he sits down he has a Sherry which turns into. A lot of Sherry's and he ended up forgetting to kill himself. And then, you know, a few more months went by. He doesn't remember much. You know, he jumped back into into being an alcoholic, and apparently he was doing standup gigs. He's like, I don't I don't remember them. And I bet they weren't good. And then in February he reached out to a friend who had gotten sober and said, the I need help I need help. And then he he got it. He got he got sober. And it was a struggle for him every day, but for him to to tell this deeply intimate story to show support for somebody like Britney Spears. I it's one of the most honest and amazing things I've ever seen on on late night television and meeting dared him to me, even more, and he was a real inspiration for me when I quit reckon like, and that that speech itself, you know. I mean, it's a struggle. It's not easy every day. It's hard to not drink. Sometimes it's worse than others. You know, sometimes it's okay. Sometimes it's not it's tough, man. It's really really really hard, especially amount of booze. I was drinking at the time. But he was a huge inspiration. And I, and I you know, and personally that moment that that story that he told really affected me. And and I go back and every once in a while I watch just for inspiration like if things get tough, sometimes I go to YouTube, and I watched that Ferguson one of my favorites. One of my favorites. Maybe maybe my favorite besides. I mean, obviously Letterman is the king and Johnny Carson, you know, but but personally on a personal note. Ferguson made a huge impact on me. Not just because he was hilarious..

And every time I saw him without it. It bothered me. I just could not that not handle it. I just needed to look away. So like in the longest yard. He doesn't have the mustache. He doesn't have the mustache in deliverance. Either. Yeah. I starting over. No mustache. Yeah. No. That's I mean seriously when I think mustache there are two their pop into my head immediately put Reynolds, and Tom Selleck, those are the two and Tom Selleck so much is a much more substantial mustache very much. But it says Burt Reynolds has been rocking the mustache had been rocking mustache since nineteen Seventy-three pretty much nonstop. It's lent him a roguish charm that he's used to advantage in film like in films like gator smoking in the bandit. And then Tom Selleck. Tom Selleck stash on magnum PI defined facial hair for an entire generation. And by the way, Jay Hernandez is the star of the new magnum PI. No mustache. I'm not watching it. I thought I saw goatee and some of the commercials he's got a little SCRUFF. But he's gotta have you. Gotta have your magnum PI. You gotta have the mustache. And you know, Higgins is a woman on this one. It's not John hillerman or whatever. His name was was hillerman. John hillerman was Higgins. I can't remember. Yeah. And by the way, I, you know, I've only seen seven thousand commercials for magnum PI because I watch big brother. I know I can tell you, Dan, I can tell you the entire CBS fall lineup. I can give you can give you the name of every single single show. That's coming on CBS. This this fall. Hey, go. Thanks. You've just because I watch big brother because I watch big brother live. I wouldn't you know, if I were watching it on the DVR, obviously, I would be scanning through this. But, but I I like to watch big brother live because I don't want any spoilers his, you know, somebody gets evicted. And then somebody mentioned it on my Facebook page or Vic mentioned it on the news. All right mustaches is what we're talking about. What are what are the most are the best coolest mustaches? I think we just mentioned the two pretty ultimate ones. But there are a lot more out there. Burt Reynolds who we just lost last week at clearly known for the mustache. And then of course, Tom Selleck, which is you know, that mustaches legendary. And. Dan. Do you feel the same way about Tom Selleck when he doesn't have the mustache it does seem weird. Yes. They were there were times in the show. You wrote friends where he went sans. Moustache did little weird. I, you know, we have some monitors here in the studio Dana's, you know, and one of them there's one right on the on the on the desk with me here on the counter, and that's switch to channel nine because I'll just be having it on there's so there's two monitors channel nine out another one that has a different channel another one that just has the security cameras. So that I can see Vic in the newsroom and everything else. And friends is on twice during my show late night. It's on twice and tonight. This this during the show this morning one episode had Tom Selleck on it. No stash. He also you remember the movie you've seen? Did you see the movie in and out? Yes. Looney great movie, by the way, great movie, Kevin Kline. Closet. It doesn't really realize he's gay, but he's clearly a gay teacher and he's married and he's gonna marry Joan cusak. Who by the way was nominated for an Academy Award for that performance and deserved it. 'cause he's brilliantly funny in it. No, no mustache Selleck mustache Lewis. I I would like to make the story up. And I'm gonna believe it that it was because Wilfred Brembos also in that movie is joke. Thanks parents. That's right. Feet down before they came here. Hold on a second. Dan, you wanna feel real you've seen John carpenter's the thing? Okay. Wilfred Brindley, no mustache, and that's still weird. And I've seen the thing four million times. And every time it's like, I can't believe that's Wilford Brindley. Hey, can you see if you can find I know it's out there? It's on YouTube. From my old, my favorite show, ever, Craig Ferguson, and and Jeff talking about Wilfred Brindley. Because it's it's hilarious. It's of course, it's hilarious because it was on the Craig Ferguson show. And Josh Robert Thompson doing voice of. Of jeffrey. Jeffrey Peterson the gay robot sidekick. Anyway, they talk about this encounter with they talk about Wilford Brindley. And it's it is absolutely hilarious. And I think the clip is out there somewhere if we can play that that would be. All of his appearances are coming on. So let me let me see. 'cause you're right. You're thinking of the one where at the grocery store. Right. Yeah. We sees at the salad bar. I don't know what what what are the other searches would be. Maybe Jeff the robot Wilford Bramley, if you put Jeff the robot in there that might that might change it because of course, every of course, everything that was going to pop up would be. Oh, here we go. Really great story. I was in the grocery store. I saw at the salad bar, Bradley. Bomb? Good. Helping himself to salad. I thought doesn't have diabetes. Let you. Those commercials. I want you to pick up the phone right now. Julia. I wanted to go over and say good for you. Solid because you've got. Staring at me. Photograph. Bradley. Jason man, I'm trying to eat a salad here. When you're jammed. Anyway, looked good diabetes salads the way to go. Thank you. Diabetes Wilford family's gonna keep you. Oh, man. Now that just that just made me. Sad listening listening to that just made me sad. I man God. I miss that show. That was the best show ever in the fact that I actually was a part of it for a little while. Oh my God. But that's one of the funniest things ever. Wilford Bremmer gonna kick your ass. I miss that show so much as the brilliant. Josh Robert Thompson, doing the voice of the Geoffrey Geoffrey Peterson the gay robot sidekick, and of course, the Greg Craig Ferguson, and my future ex wife was a part of that show for for a while to Danny de Lorenzo played Beth the CBS exact, and she was also the rhinoceros for a little while. So one night, actually, no. She was only go rhino for one night. Man. That's funny. Okay. For Brindley clearly on the list of mustache hall of fame. Clearly, here's a fun fact, Dan. I'm older now then Wilford Brindley was when he made cocoon. That's a fun fact for you right there. We're gonna take a break..

"I don't get it because I don't understand how this rotation is supposed to work. The Lakers are gonna be number one in rebounds. I'll tell you that we better be the most rebounding, but I think with relying on got Rhonda with Rondo and Lonzo in the back where you got fourteen rebounds, Josh, Robert just had multiple double digits. They've the best rebounding guards in the in the NBA by far just adding length. But in terms of shooters I still think the shooting is gonna come from the young guys, the shooting v. i. Josh mar, Josh heart. That's what it is. Then these other guys aren't playing very much. Yeah. I mean, how much does Michael Beasley play? How much does see the guy before today. When there was even another. Again, you can play Beasley. I think it's safe to say the fee era is not going to start, but maybe not because if you need, if you really do need pure shootings, still probably the best pure shooter on team. And you know the return of the machine I think is probably means the wall bangs. Not gonna dress much. I don't think so. I probably won't see a lot of zoo bots. No, you know, Alex Caruso played a lot of minutes on a two way contract up in the big club is here that's. Two way contract. I wonder what will Wagner be on a two way. They won't be two ways. They'll just spend a lot of time daily. Okay. But like I just I, you know, Beasley can play the four. So that's a different deal. But you already have LeBron there in coups now I just I don't quite understand where the minutes are going to be for a lot of these one year guys particularly saying, I think Stevenson's gonna get squeezed by the end of the year you do? I do. I don't think he's gonna play as much by the MDC wilted beginning, but I don't because I think if heart really is what he showed in Vegas is a guy who's not just a role player, but maybe he's gotta be floral. He is you don't sit him to give players great defender, right. And you want Brandon Ingram on the missiles. You want these, you know, I want you want coups on the floor. Yeah. When I see Josh hard, I think about a young souped up Derek Fisher has to play. You're gonna play Rondo in your try at least to figure out ways to play Rondo and Lonzo to get see. I think ACP is going to get squeezed. He might how he's great defender, though, will not great, but he is a good defend. He's a good defender jumper shooting, and he's issued plus the same ages LeBron James, The the good. good. That's huge. There's is not working out. You can cut him Beazley's not working out. You can cut him one year guys one year? Yes. It's almost like panning for gold. Trying to figure out which of these guys you envision being part of the future. But like there are guys who are around who are fairly normal, human beings, James Ennis fairly normal human anybody. That's the third is pretty normal. Discussing not Accenture enough. Who's, oh, Michael Beasley. I think tomorrow for offered is still out there. Yeah, I really thought this last you can't. Oh, yeah, that's true. They're loaded eighty. Just tweeted this out late. Is the NBA about to film their own version of hard knocks? Like maybe that's what it is. They just went cameras to follow the team around. No, no, we're all going to watch it. Yeah, I think Luke has got one of the toughest jobs. There is getting these pieces figured out, which includes somebody who's going to have some say in LeBron some say is Luke LeBron's second-best coach he's ever had. Is up there aren't you guys day? I think sponsors one championship spotting sponsors number one. But when I look at the guys that LeBron's play for thing, Luke is the second best coach he's had, but I but the other thing about Beasley to is he's gotten much more efficient over the last few. The last two or three years. He's been over fifty percent. He he wasn't really starting. It's kind of a six man off the bench last year, right renaissance waiver wire for sure..
