Even if you're not listening build those dreams. That's what I say all right Yup Walker. Good to talk to you my friend back above show. This story comes from Elkhart County Indiana. A twenty five year old man was going one hundred and twenty miles an hour on the highway when police pull up next to him and say pull over pull over. He thought they were getting hand motions. Let's race so he kept going. Oh Wow Hey. Let him on a twenty five mile chase until he pulled over and got arrested. Wait so I would assume there was alcohol involved. There had to be right. No he really there. They said he was charged with reckless driving and several moving violations but no alcohol involved. He really thought they wanted to race. Wow what don't you have to be drunk to think that though is my question. Wow I would. I have a lean on drunk. I would all right. Is that it. I'm much. That's your boneheads story. Today it's time for the good news. Johnny Morris is the founder bass pro shops and he's decided to donate one million. Fda approved face Matt's for first responders or anyone in the healthcare. That needs these face masks. I guess it's a thing right. Now that people are more facemask stepping up to do that and basically if there's an bass pro shop or Kabila's in your town. Those masks are going to those cities. Wow Hey listen we are a bass pro shop show also Eddie goes. I guess it's a thing now like the whole new like every single story on the news for the past. Two months hasn't been that. Healthcare workers need mass. Apparently there's some virus running around. I saw the tweet yesterday. Well Shoutout Bass Pro Cabela's that's awesome. Obviously we love them But making a difference. Everybody's making a difference. I love it. That's what it's all about. That was tell me something. Good every hour. We bring positively. It's called tell me something good. We've we've done it for fifteen years. I remember when we came up with this segment. Everybody Kinda told us as a dump segment we used to it at five and six o'clock in the morning only remember way back in the day. Yeah if it's definitely early early and what happened was we started doing this segment and we have something radio called research and they started testing the segment and it was like our highest testing segments. So we started doing it more because we love doing the segment. Anyway we love positively and finding a good way to look at things and so then other radio show started doing it the next thing you know. It's all over the country. Were super proud of that. And it's really become something where known for and that song is a real song that Chaka Khan tale something good it's like Rufus and Chaka Khan on the radio. I'll be at the grocery store I know here. Don't get down the down. And I'm like all that so weird but we've become known for this after fifteen years and I love it. And there's a pastor at Trinity Church in Oklahoma. His name is Brian Mills. He's a senior pastor there and he referenced in his sermon. This last Sunday ago. Now I want to give you a little update. Can I give update? Y'All y'all fired up. We gotta get a little update term. Something good is bobby bones. That's off Bobby bojars countryman. You don't listen to country. You know bobby he's from Arkansas. Something good anyways. And that's like I feel like he started rambling because he was looking on the crowd and maybe nobody knew who. He's talking about crowd. If you remember there's no it's just sitting keys and so there's the wasn't getting any bag. Oh Yeah Yeah Yeah. Yeah that makes sense. I feel like I. I'm watching Church online too and I feel like my pastors. Have something similar where they don't know if what they said is it's resonating the way they thought it. Would they awkwardly keep talking well Bryan Mills? Two four seven is his name. Brian Mills. "Welcome back to without fail my conversation with chain mcnally after losing his house in Los Angeles. Shane finally break when he landed a big single. UNA Leeann womack record. It was enough for Shane to get taken seriously as a songwriter in Nashville. So in two thousand nate he decided to move back there fulltime and try a second time to make it in country music Decem not as a performer seeing and performing the songs himself but as a songwriter long writer reading songs that other people would perform and it was starting to feel like things are finally coming together. He had some money coming in from last call. He was living closer to his boyfriend. Michael Goal but he was still in the closet and Nashville. I came back thinking I had sort of pulled off the great Houdini by leaving Nashville to sort sort of live like that. And then I can come back and I just thought because my boyfriend lived in Atlanta. No one would know him that I could just keep living like that. Then just not mention it and he said to me I won't I won't do that. I won't be a part of a relationship or someone's in the closet and in that moment I said okay then I guess I'm GonNa Start telling people who was the first person you told Back in Nashville. After that conversation with your boyfriend yeah I was actually riding with Josh Osborne who has become most frequent collaborator and best friend And Trevor Rosen and it was I can remember that room that day and just somehow somehow is talking and talking and joking and they were joking about their wives and I just said I don't know if you'll know this but I'm gay and I'm in a really serious relationship with the sky the lives in Atlanta and so I can relate to what you're saying because I'm also in a relationship and basically saying. Oh Yeah I hate when he does that and trying to just relate to their story and they you know they said we knew because we've actually had a conversation with about it before today but it didn't matter and in fact they were the ones that just said you know we love you. We want to work with you. We we WANNA meet Michael. I want you to meet our wives and let's all be family and that's what we are and So I I went out of that room thinking I could tell anyone and Didn't hide it anymore. And if it came up thing was everyone knew I didn't know everyone knew and it didn't matter and why didn't matter was because it didn't matter to me anymore. Four and a realized that the shift that needed to come all along with for me you know. I didn't go into the situation apologizing for being gay which gave People Power to to judge me over it. It's it's coming in and saying if it comes up you know I have boyfriend and it's not it's not how straight people have to leave the conversation so I didn't lead the conversation that way but I didn't change the Pronoun when I talked about who was with and You you know nobody ever even missed a beat and never meant anything to anyone really really. It's so weird. I don't know if it was. I mean I mean I don't know times have changed. I do think time there's a big part of it that you know that decade had made a big difference but also it just I don't know I never had maybe look. Maybe when I left the room I don't know but I never felt it with his double life behind him. Shane deeper into the country. Music writing scene in Nashville and eventually he set his sights and one of the biggest stars and country. Music Kenny Chesney. Shane had written a song. He thought would be perfect for him. So many bit different. They'd push Chesney into new territory. So how do you go about pitching your song to him. What do you do well? There's through his label through his manager through His producer they all take meetings to listen to songs and it would just get pitched to all these different people. Aw describe one of those meetings what do you do you show up with like a thumb drive then you showed up with a CD and at that time and you had demos news of the songs that you wanted to pitch and the person would sit there for about thirty minutes and go through your songs with you sitting there. What's what are the expressions on their faces? Most of the time they don't say say anything they say I've never heard do something like that. Which means nothing? But it took eleven different pitches Different ways that we tried to get it to him and eventually we did hear it and when he heard it he loved it and they called and said he was cutting. I was actually in Vegas. Guess with my now has been. I was in the mall the Fashion Show Mall in Vegas. I remember where I was standing. When we've been there since then we always go remember? When you're saying right there I started crying? It was just started crying. I was just like I cannot believe it meant that much to get Kenny. Chesney cut plus I cry easy getting that. Let's go broker. I'm trying yeah. I'm just imagining like you on the on the phone in a mall in Las Vegas with tears coming down your face. It's no joke. My husband thought someone had died bent over and he was like. Oh my God what what what and I was like. No no no no. It's good. It's good it's good and that was that felt like the biggest moment ever. I mean that look Leeann womack recording. It was a personal win and I I had needed at cut so bad to get me there but Kenny Chesney. Nobody could touch him Getting a song on Kenny Chesney record for the field I was in. That was what everyone wanted. And what has that one go casing that one. That's some live. You left loud on a accountable right here Saturday. Nine make fun of me. Cinema Saja whole to turn it..

"Okay. So Nicole galleon here who have you medical? Yes. I have other. Well, I just through Utah king about her. She was on your podcast. Oh, that's true. From the Bobby cast asserted falling on Instagram, and then the usual, you feel like, you know, someone and I think I saw you like an award show somewhere. At least I remember this. And I was like I feel like I know you of Instagram, and then just, you know, DM deeming or messaging and then because DM each other. Well, let's. Stories like sometime on or what is it called? If you reply to a story that works. Yeah. So sort of like that. And then, you know, now, I see around willing kogo, Nicole. We brought you in for a couple of reasons one because you really great songwriter. But you just won the triple play award. And it means you wrote three number one songs in twelve months. I read it here this long. She wrote, Amy. Yes. First of all all the pretty girls from Kenny Chesney, are you familiar with the song? Okay. Wrote this. How did this get to Kenny Chesney, I read it with Josh Osborne? And Tommy Lee James and Josh Davis. You know, kind of like the Nashville TV show. Josh just probably texted him the song once it was demoted, and he liked it. And it was pretty simple. So do you get a text going hate Kenny Chesney likes our song? And he's going to sing it. Yeah. Well, you get oh, Kenny loves it. But still in your songwriter heart. You're very much like keeping all of your excitement. Obey because that doesn't mean much in this town, you know, somebody loving asong as one thing, but somebody actually following through and cutting. It is like you're still a world away from getting macoute. So when he recorded new here for the first time is it already on the record of that point. Yeah. I I don't think that I heard the cut of this until it came out on the record. I didn't that's weird how you wrote it. But you don't get to hear it until it's already fully done. Not unless you just happen to be like buddies with them and on his plane or something. I'm not I'm not I'm not in in on that level. So that's the first one she wrote inside twelve months the second one is in maybe no this one here. This is coming home, Keith urban and Jillian Michaels. So on this one didn't you guys at a credit because of the lick? Yeah, they sample the Merle haggard song..

"Made me move over here. What might be like fun, the gonna get married like what made all this stuff happened is as simple and cheesy as it might sound like stat dreams that dream of like one day wanted to be here and be part of this country music community in that that's the feeling that we tried to create in that song Morgan Evans is here. Got a record today album is the alma today record albums and things that we drink to you moved here. What year two states it was officially three and a half years ago. But before that, I came back and forth a lot. So it kind of felt like progression. Are you citizen yet? You're married Kelsey. So are you like a real not a citizen not all that stuff? Takes a lot of time. Even if you're married to Kelsey Ballerini. I mean that that allows you to apply for the next part of it, which is all that's happening. But give me call somebody. Can you call on everybody? I'll let you know. Thank you. See you move your three and a half years ago. When did you meet your wife two and a half years ago? And so then you got married how long ago. Ten and a bit months ago. And then you put your record out today. That it's been pretty wild. Eighty full close to four years. Yeah. It's been incredible. And you know, I've been playing music so long and sort of traveling back and forth. I the first time I came to Nashville was ten years ago. And so I feel like I'm going to really good position to really appreciate all the great moms that are happening all at once right now. When you moved to Nashville. What's the first thing that you do you come to Nashville? Let's say you're you're Morgan from Australia, and you're flying here for the first time. You you go to a hotel or a friend or what do you do? Yeah. I was standing hotel and the first thing I did was throwing my bags in the hotel room and walk down to Broadway. You walk down to the street with your guitar or just just to just take it in and see see what it was. And I had that experience for the first time. It was like, wow. This place is awesome. Did it intimidate you? At our excite you that street didn't put the more. I learned about the riding community and the level of everything happens here. It was definitely I say that all the time. This town can be the most inspiring and the most intimidating place all at once. And you get to decide which one it is. Morgan Evans is here. I wonder when you go play a show like the bachelorette because then you on the bachelorette how many times do you play your song over and over again. That's funny. I I get a lot actually a great question by me. You always loved to ask the question where someone goes, you know, every day someone asked me that people expect it to be really set up, and it is a setup situation. Like, we're obviously in there with Sanchez, and there's a couple thousand people in their whiting. But we only shot that song once when they came in at home using TV only have them once on that actual experience with not constructed. Cool. That was good. It's the rap kiss. I never played kiss. Somebody. I play that song. Thousands. All right. Why don't we plan on the song? How about can? I requested song. How about things that we drink to which is what the album's named after. Yeah. Absolutely. I can play this song. This is like. As I said like the last couple of couple of years have been pretty amazing. But last year I lost. I lost my manager of ten years last year in motorcycle accident, and he was the guy. Discover ministre Yang's that guy that brought me to America. And he's the guy told me to come back to America when I told him, it's too hard. And and we obviously lost him really suddenly and on the day of his memorial here in Nashville I was in studio with Christmas definite producer and Josh Osborne. As well. Somebody with and is definitely one of those days. We could've just been like. Let's just come back tomorrow. I was talking to Chris. And Chris new rob as well. And and and Josh was talking about is his father who had lost before that pretty recently and. Chris Dodd playing a bait. And I started singing this melody, and and the things that we drink to came out and. We wrote this song that day as a celebration of of Lawson all the cool things you got to do. I guess you're in each other's lives are here. He is Morgan Evans. This is things that we drink to. raise. As we look. Back. Live to drink. Roles there. Choose. We make that we miss. We we don't. Wean long. Dreams. We reach choose stories. The. Most wiki. I'm gonna. As we look back on. Drink shit. Me me. You with me? Songs that we sing the whole. We know. The battles. We thought we win within two things that we drink..

"We'd me like, yes, so then I had to find the perfect person to write it with, and that would be Josh Osborne. So here we are. So how long until he says, hey, I'm going to record it until you finally hear the final version of it. Like when it's produced from that, like on the record. It was a while. Lena single record to hear it a lot sooner than than normal. But I would say, you know, couple months and then I still haven't heard on the radio yet. How about the players that don't you worry about this? So I love the song even before I knew Jesse Alexander was the writer jesse's do best. And so what you're singing on this too, right? Yes. Come on. You want to know about this long. She wrote him. Yeah, she wrote Dr chart. Leib rice. Role she wrote, Blake, mom online will be used. Can't shouting and she wrote the climb from Ali Cyrus. There's always going to be in the about that one right there. Did you bring that one back? Your macaroni? Classic. Good one now that I hear it again, I'm like, oh, he's the, she plays the climb. It sounds like. Oh, yeah, sh, no, no, no, Jesse does. Yeah. Hello. Thank you. Probably does. Okay. Hey, listen, Jesse. Congratulations on this big old. Awesome song. I loved it before I even knew you're part of it. Now love it even more. I'm gonna make sure you hear it on the radio right now. So I'm going to hang up on you. Okay. All right. There's Jesse Alexander. One of my favorite writers also episode sixty three. The Bobby casts. On the phone now is Arkansas key. Hey, good morning. Morning. Stepdad, we went to Chicago and what's cubs game together throughout the first pitch. We're both die hard fans. He has the cubs tattooed on his right shoulder. Is it your today? Yeah. So what did you think about that. Great day, right? Pretty fifty. Cargo Kevin Kevin game. game. I mean, I thought it was great. What did you think about going on the field. I loved it. Man fail. What can I say? Chicago. You're in the fan. Yeah. So it's, what are you saying? Arkansas, Keith. Some of your buddies back home. Could they've believe what you were going to do. I didn't really tell that many about them. I've been brag about since I got into. Okay. Well, now that you're back. Yeah, I'm I'm really loving it at. Fun. Trio great drip. How do you think bobby's pitch was being his step-dad for so many years? Like we're you for you? Super proud of him like his actual pitch actual picture. I want him to blaze it, but you know. Would like just harder. I'm Keith. I thought he did a good job like just making sure it got to the to the catcher's glove. I thought it was perfect. I said, boys it and don't put it in a nerd. But you know, he, he, he didn't know what he felt he was. So I went out and thought I want to enjoy the moment. I don't wanna be nervous about going. I possibly can Arkansas gates at blazes. It boys. To tell you this too. I think Arkansas has a bit of a warped memory because he thinks a much better athlete than I'm really was. Credit man. You you great. Outfielder and first baseman. "Hey days of of country music i think admittedly a say was sort of the 90s was canada hay day know garth was at its peak each in i and there was all these huge artisan everybody who's selling records and even like a mid level artist for selling three or four million albums and it was nearly again that's crazy give out there and they were reaching all these people and i think one of the byproducts that you don't necessarily look at until you're sort of peeling the layers back and looking at it is i think sometimes even it hurts the craft a little bit because you can't go into a room and your focus can't be i want to write the closing track on the album i want to write this great piece of art you in the back of your mind from a i wanna sustain my career point of view you have to be thinking i have to write a song it can be played on the radio you have to ride a single you do you have to think we have to write a single and i think that's a byproduct of there's just you know there were so many guys songwriters in the nineties that made careers of having album cuts there were guys that made more money off of having songs on garth albums than haven't singles and and and i'm not saying it will i'm not the you know foolish it's never going back to that but there is a way to make it to level the playing field a little bit and i think if we can people like lee and honestly people like you having a voice on the radio and it was speaking about it it's it's getting it to where people are understanding that it is actually an issue most people just don't know and a you tell him or this song was stream two hundred and fifty million times and and on my last as kept statement on me two thousand dollars for it blows people's mind they don't understand it and and i think it's just right now we have a lack of knowledge and i think you have a lot of really old people which is always the case whenever it comes to lawmakers you have a bunch of really all white people yeah and they don't understand but it's always been this cycle is i like this new route but we can't.

"In what's going to happen is going to kill the songwriters because people are gonna go i can't make money and upper tier is going to be fine the uppertier israel going to continue to make their money he said but it's it's discouraging to new songwriters the people he said so he as you know had been on the capital capitol hill so many times talking it these like find screw it i'm just gonna run myself and i'm like that's a ball or move from somebody who really wants to make a change right so is running and asserted think about that radio and digital in for me the radio just it's the phone but you know what happ and the weird thing is if something doesn't change and i mention i think the radio being the monster has about five years and it really but other doesn't change what songwriters and radio loses three percent here 'but ted digital and i hope it does because i all my hour set up i've already built my house over on the digital world your debt it's risk in her you guys even worse because in radio is gonna be gone and if you have some kind of planet for streaming radio is going to be less and then streaming is still going to be kicking in the ball zipser and it's gonna be like what are you gonna make even less right will we're have we're having the hangar careers inner our hats on radio right now in in in the freight a goes away that what you're hanging your hat so lee you'd advocate j handling lay i tweeted out aside vote because we miller via bright but only if you live in like brundtland googling a district yes i tweeted out last night i was like hey listen because i'm independent guy fraph friends that republicans are at the democrats i grew up in arkansas which has.
