"Oh no. It would have been a funeral. But you know what? You know what? I think the fact that you had the wherewithal in such a quick change to notice that your zipper was because I gotta be honest. I walk out to all the time in the bathroom and my zippers down. And I think, oh, lord. Because you're not a man. Okay, anatomy differences. Yep, I get it. Yeah. Wow. Cute reacts like no. You're 30 years old and you just realize riding a keys right there. Oh, oh, oh. I mean, man, the man checked their zippers. You check your zipper, Ryan. When you get out of the bathroom? Don't ask, cam. He's a Tennessee graduate. He's taking Laura. Thank you. We'll more on the zipper zipper game. Hey, you know what I want to know? I want people to tweet us their stories of when they had their fly down in the most embarrassing moment. I want all of them. Fine bob. Cat Laura. At Laura. I want these stories. I love them. Knoxville's beautiful. Let's talk to those overalls. You don't have to worry about your fly in the overalls, right? It's already up. You are listening to the Paul finebaum show podcast. And we welcome you back. We are live in Knoxville. Final hour and change in Ryan McGee joins us here on set. Another homecoming for you. Yeah, I was just telling Laura that I had a girl break up with me. I didn't eat that tree right there. The one on the right. Did you really? Yeah. It was and we were that couple. You know, the couple has the argument out in public, nearby is changing classes and they're like, oh, no, I can't believe they're arguing out in public. And it's all they have right there. So there you go. I'd forgotten about it. Now I hate to bring back the zoom with my therapist later. How you doing? It was come coming for you too. So I think we both went over circle park, right? Yeah, we had a conversation over at the daily Beacon office with all the student reporters today. It was really fun. Yeah, I went down to I never wrote for the Beacon. But I did radio at wut. For sure. 90.3 I used to walk past it every day. Yeah, there you go. Well I went down there and yeah, it was great. It was interesting because so much throughout campus has changed. Oh yeah. But when you go into the campus radio station, it's still smells exactly like it did in the 90s. So yeah, so it felt good. I'm not sure I passed it every day. I'm not sure I've ever been in there. If you would like to go one down. I got people down there. I'll be happy to take you down there. Because at the time, the idea of being on the radio just did not so all right, so just to be clear. Yeah. I am a senior writer to ESPN and I never wrote for the daily Beacon of Tennessee. And you have made a fairly comfortable living in radio over the years and you never worked on the campaign. I never even I mean, I'm trying to remember, I don't know if worried, where it used to be was on the same floor as the newspaper. I walked past it every day and I had zero interest in ever walking. No, there's probably smoke coming out of the car. Everyone in there. Well, I'm serious. If you'd like to go. Yeah, I would. I've got people. Really love it to her. I don't know that I've ever I don't know that I've ever been trying to think if I was ever in the office of the daily Beacon. I love the day. I was a voracious daily Beacon reader. Like I would eat lunchable myself and read the Beacon and all that, but I did not share this with the staff today, but a lot of things happened in that office. So imagine just imagine them what may or may not have happened in the campus radio station. An alternative rocket to o'clock. Yeah. I remember listening to it. Yeah, the statute of limitations. I'm pretty sure it was expired, if you'd like. That was the old joke for you. Radio jocks out there. Why did certain songs get play like stairway to heaven? Either got a DeVita. Yeah, it got it. Like 15 minutes. There were two songs that you played that were 11 to 15 minutes for a reason. Because you were either going to the bathroom or you were up to something. Yeah, or up to something in the bathroom. Yeah, yeah. There you go. Great to be back on campus fall. I don't know. It is almost predictable to say, but it is always unique to come back here. And there's another memory I haven't involved you. And it was one of the more awkward moments of my career was right right here. Yeah. One was just three years ago four years ago. Four years ago, I did my farewell interview with Butch Jones right up here. So then the addendum to that story is in the SEC nation bus. I was on the bus and bush got married because I told this story, I was on the bus and Butch came one of the bus just to wait because it's like the green room before he went out to do the interview with you. And he I went out of my way to set the microphone down and say, coach how you doing? The let him know. We're not because I want to ask him because it was a tough time. How are you doing? It was rough. And what he continued to do was give me the talking points. And then he walked off the bus and went straight and said I went with you and started to give you the talking points and that was and then I'll cover the game that day and it was the only time I don't have any dozens of games I've been to in the same as the only time I've seen people leaving at the end of the first quarter. I think it was a Georgia game. It was Georgia. No exaggeration I gave was over 5 minutes. It was 24 nothing before you turned around and I was sitting with the just retired bud Ford. Who I was convinced, the longtime of sports information director, Tennessee who I was convinced was going to go down to the coaches booth and start shoving guys out the window. Because he was so vocal about it was the strangest atmosphere. Before game and inside of a game, 'cause there was a lot of enthusiasm about that day like there is here today, but it just was different. It felt like everybody was just yay, we're excited. Like I didn't know for a really bought it and literally at the end of the first quarter people were leaving the game. I ran down from the press box. I took a picture of people leaving the game at the end of the first quarter because I'd ever thought I'd see it. But that was that seems like a hundred years ago now. It does. And let's see how many coaches and so on. We're this is the second one. So things that we've gone great since the last time we were here for Georges game. I don't know. I think there's a level of cynicism about the feeling now, but it does feel just a little bit different. Well, I think that people are enjoying it this year. Right. And I don't know that even when even when people forget, that one, I guess was it 2017, but that was a great year. That was Dobbs no booty. That was albums of exciting year and it just never that great before or after. But the feeling around here now is people are actually excited about it. They're enthusiastic and that because football can be fun and the way they're playing a football even losing is fun. I'm hearing music that I don't know what that means, but I guess that means that I thought maybe there was a concert or something. It might be..

"Please tell the story because so good. So it wasn't planned. In the middle of the show, somebody was Jordan. It was Jordan Rodgers idea. Was it okay? I didn't know that. That's because you didn't have your earpiece in, but it was his idea. So they decided for me to dress up as a yell later. Yeah. We knew he was picking Texas a and M yeah. Okay, big deal. Right. And so there's a finite amount of time that you can change clothes. Yeah, and at first we were going to take one of the yell leader outfits off of a current yell leader and have them where your clothes. But that got way too complicated because they were bigger. So at the very end of the show, I zip in to a tent. Yeah. I got undressed. I put the shirt on. And by the way, I don't get starch in my I mean this, you could that thing was stiff. You could cut somebody's throat with the shirt. I mean, it was that stuff. I saw it, and I was like, I could punch that. I get the shirt on. And I know this is just exactly what happened. This isn't. No, this is true. Embellishment. Because for anybody who's watching this year, I came out a few minutes later with a shirt and blue jeans on. There's a reason why. So I take my shoes off. And these pants, by the way, Taylor Swift could not have gotten these papers so tight. Wow. But I got in them. Well, have you seen his legs? My goodness. I got in them until the zipper broke. So I am fully dressed as a yell leader from Texas a and M which is a respected university, which honors the military. Yes. 5 days before Veterans Day and I looked down and my zipper's open. Well, you know, and I'm thinking XYZ Paul, come on. Maybe, I mean, in all candor, I would have probably done it at Tennessee. I mean, no big deal. We would have understood here, right? I didn't think I could afford to do that. You had so much going to pick me up too, because the yell later had told me. Oh, oh, I didn't know that. That surprised I was very concerned. I'm thinking they picked me up. Throw me up and there's my zipper open. And I'm spending the rest of my life writing letters to the Bush library. Okay. So that's why that was the backstory. So I didn't know, honestly, I was disappointed when you came out of the tent and you're not wearing the pants. I thought Paul's only halfway committed to this thing. And then it comes out and you know, he does the whole thing, he gets a little picky. He's hoisted on the yell eater shoulders. I thought for sure you were going to fall over. I didn't see I didn't hear what they said. And then my wife told me, she said, Laura was really worried. I was so concerned. I thought I kept saying, so it's so funny because people probably think some of our show is scripted. It's all very much our real reaction to things. I thought if they drop you, I mean, I was behind. I don't know what I thought I was going. I thought I'm going to catch you. I probably could. I'm very strong. But either way, if they had dropped me. That would have been.

"Donate it to somebody else. I said, okay, sorry. I said, you know, we could do it right now. No, no, I'm good. Yeah, no, it's so those are, I mean, I've had you're somewhere, you're at a restaurant. And somebody will come up and they'll introduce you and they go, oh, and my friend, so and so and the guy will go, well, would you like a picture with Paul? My favorite too is because it's so rarely falls very famous. So he's sandbagging here, but so rarely anybody will have any idea who I am, which is great. But sometimes if someone sees me taking picture with somebody else, they'll be like, oh, maybe I need to go take my picture and then they'll say, so who are you? There's a picture. There is this great joke. I heard it a million years ago. Involves Frank Sinatra. Famous people in the world. Yeah. It was with Don Rickles. He went he saw Sinatra out of New York restaurant. And Sinatra had like entourage. More entourage than you have. Less than Tim Tebow has. He went over to Sinatra and he said, I'm with a new girl. That's how they talk back then. Oh well. Well, you would know. Well, how was it there? And Sinatra goes, would you come by? And I just, my first date with her. Yeah. Sinatra walks over, and there's like 5 guys with vests and guns and other people. Yeah. And he goes, done. It's so great to see you. And rickles looked up. He says, Frank, can't you say I'm having dinner? That's so good. Oh, that's great. Yeah, I'm gonna try that on you. Next time I have a really fancy dinner, I'm trying to impress somebody. I'm gonna see if I can get you to come over and then I'll say that to you. I don't think that. I don't know if I've ever been anywhere where it was really that impressive. Yeah, well, that's just how you think about yourself, which is it's probably very apropos to where we are right now because you are such a legend here in Knoxville and you don't consider yourself that. But that's one of the great things about you. So humble man of the people. Is he the best? My ultimate goal, though, one of my favorite things about volunteer fans is that they will have the overalls that have the orange and white stripes on it. I don't know why it seemed like this is a shot. No. I love yours. I think they look amazing in my ultimate goal is to get Paul wearing those. Don't you guys think that'd be great? Where do you get those? Yeah, we're gonna go get some. Ball shop. Ball shop. All right, we'll be there later. How later are you guys open? How late's ball shop open? Yeah. All right, so we'll get Paul. I know you're not run over there while you're here. You know what? I'll finish this up for you. You go get those. That would be worth it, right? People could suffer through me doing your show long enough for you to go get some of those overalls. I just think it would only be right. I think, you know what? You need an extra layer in this weather. It's a little chilly. Okay. We did a show. It was I remember distinctly. It was two years ago tonight. We did a show in Oxford. Yeah. And I had picked up something. I don't know what it was. Oh my goodness. And I literally couldn't get marquee reactors producing the show tonight said you have to get off the show. He was so sick. That was so sad. My goodness. So I'm so worried about you. I was watching the show inside and I felt so bad watching you outside. But you were, I mean, you couldn't even speak. You had some and I think you yeah, we've turned a new leaf with you, because now you take better care of yourself, which makes me really happy. You guys, Paul's been really getting it in the gym too. That's been, that's his new thing. Right? This is like this is your life, Paul fine, bam, huh? Yeah, it is. Well, I just think that people should know more about you because you're very private, but I like to share things about you. So I know anything about you that no, no one cares about me. I got nothing. For the people that get mad at us when we don't talk football. Which is a lot of people. Yeah, yeah. You know what? I like those people because they're so committed to football that you can't have any reprieve on this show. We've already had Roman and Tebow. That's not enough. We need our current Tennessee player. We've had countless. But we need more. You're on here for a couple of minutes a week. And people get very upset. Yeah. Anyway, I love you guys for calling us out and keeping us on track. So I'm going to get us to the nitty Gritty here. Did Roman say on this show what he said to me earlier about how he thinks Tennessee is going to score 21 points tomorrow? He did. I think that's really interesting. He also called that Alabama fans for being crazy. Which is even better than his statement about Tennessee. Anyway, I think that's possible too. And I think Georgia wins the game. They number one team in the country far and away at this point. I'm not sure. What? You're picking Tennessee? Paul. I just said I'm not so sure. I didn't say anything else. All right, but seriously, you think it's competitive? I think it's more competitive. At the end of the program tomorrow. I'm coming out of smoky. Okay. Last week, did everybody see when he came when he joined the yell leaders at Texas a and M and a story about that?.

"Find bomb show podcast. Welcome back. We are live in Knoxville and look who showed up. Hey. You were just saying, you guys, Paul's had a wardrobe change. He's added a jacket to the mix here. You were holding out for a long time though. Yeah, no, for me, once it goes below 70, I start shivering. Right. Yeah, he's over here, shivering and shaking. I said, let's put your jacket on for once. By the way, is this the jacket that we just keep on the SEC nation? Did you bring this? This is not my jacket. Well, yeah, it didn't fit. Let me tailor that thing for you. Real time here. Yeah, this was not done at a top notch tailor. Yeah. Well, it looks really warm though. It's going to be colder tomorrow morning for SEC nation. So I hope you're ready. You got to hat or anything like that? No. Keep the dome warm. I mean, let's just listen. It's the elephant in the room. That's funny. So how have you been? I'm great. It's great to see you. Yes. Great to see you. I was thinking about you last night 'cause we did the mics like foundation charity event for their foundation, which benefits prostate cancer awareness and research and we were missing you a lot. And so one of the things you generously donated a dinner with you, that was one of the live auction items. And I felt bad because when I announced it when we had the auctioneer going through nobody wanted it. I didn't think so. I'm just kidding. Someone bought it. The way to go for it. I was gonna try it. $35 or something? No, it actually sold for a pretty great amount. We raised almost $700,000. It was awesome. Man, I really wanted that. I wanted to stay with that joke, but you look so sad. I couldn't do it. So I have done that before where you I did and I did it in auction and I don't remember where it was. Well, and someone hung up here. What are the items was like backstage at the fine bomb show? And I said, okay, what's the opening bit? I was thinking a couple $1000. $20. Oh no. What is so far? It didn't sell for much. Oh, shoot. Well, it was funny because last year when we did it, I auctioned off something similar. And the guy who bought it, this is true story. Came up to me at the event and said, you know, we still haven't used what I won last year. And he said, I don't really.

"Give him try to force his leash on everybody else and when he gets mad like a whoopsie because I mean they're like his comments on Twitter or something as like him. I'm not supposed to be nice to him. Paul, I'm not trying to be discharged you, but he's disrespected you and this show so many times if you speak to women and racist sexist things out here, how do you focus on your perspective. Both know that don't do your book by its cover if you get to know it. That's fair. Okay, I was just curious. I mean, you've answered very much. I never disrespect you, but I feel like. I want to make it clear. I'm not sitting Jim's his own entity. I'm just, I'm just a talk show host. He is. I mean, if you can say whatever you want about him. And I don't know why it matters to him, but it seems like it does. One question I'm going to ask you Paul. What do you think? And what do this year against ultimate shutdown? I believe we're going to assume that the core position has made. I don't agree. I think Matt carrell and all this as long as Matt carrell is healthy, you know, I don't know where his status is. But I think you're severely underestimating his ability. I don't understand, but it's actually might not play in their banged up pretty bad. Well, okay. Hey, thanks for the call. Appreciate it. You take care of yourself. Let's go to Robert, who is in Tennessee. Hey Robert, good afternoon. Hey. Paul is first time caller, multi listener. I'm a diehard SEC fan. But I have a thought that maybe I'm read too much into it, but, you know, and it all miss gang, they had as Tennessee was driving in their hurry up and there were I think 9 players that got injured during those drives. Right. It's saying the same thing happened with Kentucky. And I'm going is this am I reading this ride or is this a real problem, now I'm not for putting in rules, but is it something that maybe looked at by the NCAA, your opinion? Where are you at on this? Yeah, I think it's an issue, but I don't know how you can really look at it, objectively, because you don't know if you look at it. You need to study it. I do think there's a lot of this here. I hate to run unfortunately up against a break here, but I think it's a great question. And we will have more on that. We're live in Knoxville our.

"You're a student, you're trying to find a craft or perfect a craft, how do you deal with that? I think at the end of the day, I heard some good advice. It's just all about what you value school and the classes are important. And that's how you get a degree. But at the end of the day, experience is experience. And so I want to put as much effort as much time energy into this into my job here at the Beacon as I can because as I mentioned earlier, it is student journalism, but at the end of the day, we want to be respected and treated just as any other journalist. As any other major news, news media company. So it's just that just that idea of putting all my effort into this, just you put in, you get out what you put in. So history like I would a real job because this is what it is at the end of the day. And what I think some people don't understand is you are walking a very fine line, you you're a student. You're not working for an independent entity. The student publications office is part of the university, but you're still having to give honest portrayals of what is happening, especially when you go through something as we all did with the end of Pruitt. I mean, that is a conflicting Odyssey. Yeah, I mean it really is, we are editorial independent. So I think we have a little bit more room than normal, but I know in the past they've had stories they've had they broke news and whatever the case may be and they have faced some backlash from the administration. I forget the building or the organization, but one place won't run ads with us anymore because of whatever store they broke. I don't remember the exact example. It's stuff like that. And I think it goes back to that kind of student aspect of it. But they just don't use the same. But it is a fine line as you can. Yeah, you're independent, but you're the president of the university and the Chancellor are within they could throw a stone and hit your operation. And I think they do pay the light Bill. Yeah, they do. But you know, at the end of the day, news is new. So you have something that happens you got to break it. You can't just look over it just because it's a universities. So I think that's the mindset we have to have is that no matter what happens, we just want to be fair and biased and treated just like any other story we would cover. So at school of paper now is different than maybe it was a couple of years ago or even a million years ago. When you were there? Well, I was there a billion. But it comes out once a week, is that correct? Yes. We have a weekly paper. And I think twice a month we do a special issue, which is a little different just about whatever topic our most recent one we had won about a homecoming. We had one preview in the basketball season. So just kind of those special. What about online? Is it more regular? Yeah. Every day, every story we were right, it goes up online immediately. Just the print papers come out once a week. But everything else goes up online every day. Well, Josh, again, thank you for having me over there today. I'm sure young students had no interest in listening to what somebody may opine about yesteryear, but it was a delight and really a pleasure to come by and meet you and meet all of your colleagues and you're just a phenomenal group of people. I was so impressed with what I saw and heard and I hope you'll come back offer appreciate that Paul thanks for coming. It was great. Josh lane, the sports editor of the UT daily Beacon joining us here. An old rocky top. We're coming right back. You are listening to the Paul find show podcast. We're back we're live in Knoxville, Laura Rutledge joining us shortly. Great conversation. Our sports editor friend Josh and let's take more phone calls at 8 5 5 two four two 7 two 8 5 I'm always the last person. John is next in South Carolina. Hey, John. Hello, Paul. How are you? We're great. Thank you. Good. Thanks for taking my call, man. Love your show. Big dog fan down here in Charleston, South Carolina, but it's got to take issue a little something in Tim we're talking about earlier things like week after week, dogs are 9 in that. We're shutting down everybody. We're still not getting credit. We hadn't been tested. So, you know, since we woke up from new touch or not, I mean, Clemson, yeah, Clemson was Clemson. We know how that stand out. So if I could interact with you for one second, you're not getting respect, is that what you said? I mean, I don't know maybe number one team in the country and you're not getting respect. Well, I will know you said earlier we hadn't been tough yet this year. You said we did not the dogs have not been tested. Is it this week we're tested? And then we talk about it Monday. Tell me. Well, let me back up. I thought I thought Clemson was a test at the time. But I would say since Clemson, I can't watch as many games as I can. Maybe I miss one, but it seems like most of them have been pretty much pretty one side. Yeah. Which, by the way, that's not your fault. I mean, that's the fact that you're so good. No, I mean, and it's been a while since we've been like this as dog fans. We've seen 8 and three, 9 and two. For many, many years and I watched TiVo beat up almost every year he was there except for one, which was that, but it seems like each week it's like, oh, Georgia still needs to crib a little something. I don't know. Well, maybe this week. Not that I'm here to offer advice. I wouldn't really care what people say as long as you win. I thought Griffith had a good point. Alabama went through this about 30 years ago that nobody respected them. The entire season only won the national championship. That happens, though, when you're when you're a defensive oriented team I got you. I agree. I agree. But I think this is a different team that the Georgia fans have not seen in many, many years. We've been used to silly penalties and all kinds of other stuff. And I think Kirby's got this team's got their head screwed on right and I think this is the year that we finally get one. Well, 20 years ago, I hate that. Thank you very much, John. Appreciate it. Matt is up next in Texas. Hey, I got right ahead. My brother. I want everybody to go miss game and I got a prediction for you guys to send the gym as well. I'll go over a prediction first. Animal beat on this 45 40 47. That's quite a prediction. And I got one you say to Jim. Jim, my man, miss Cole, you are so much. But a week, the crippled old man, thank you to your show. It's clear to show us past you over because you're too much home to thank you the future. When you're not the future, giving it or a diaper and go work for Fox. You know what? You ain't too bad. Hold on a second. We're Friends, right? The answer is, you let your brother Paul. I mean, is that really a nice thing to say to Jim?.

"The pride passion then pageantry of college football lives here. This is the Paul Fein bomb show hour three podcast. And we're back second half the show live from Knoxville. Yeah, that's smokey there. You see a lot of smokey replicas on the campus of the university of Tennessee, which is where we are. We have made it back to rocky top on homecoming weekend, the dogs are in town and we are here. We've had a great show. We just had Tim Tebow on Josh lane joining us. He's the sports editor of the daily Beacon. And it is a delightful to welcome you Josh. Good afternoon and thanks for being here. Paul, thanks for having me. So excited to be here. Let's talk first about this campus right now. It seems different than any time I have experienced it in a long time. And I want you to tell us from a student perspective, you cover the team at the UT daily Vega in the school newspaper. What's it been like to watch all this unfold and especially to see the excitement for the first time in a long time? Yeah, the word you said describes a perfectly just exciting. I mean, everybody's talking about the football team again. It's always big around here on campus, but now that they finally have a good product or at least better than it was to ask last couple of years, I think everybody just excited about it. Obviously, fast paced often set scores points. That's going to get eyes. It's going to get attention. But I think excitement is just the best word to use everybody's talking about the program now. As a student sports writer, you're obviously you want they're still getting around. This is your school. You want them to do well, but you've also had to cover as the rest of your colleagues. A lot of disasters. What has that been like in the ensuing months leading up to the hiring of Josh hyper and all the other? Within a couple of days, the head coach was gone. The legendary Hall of Fame athletic director who won a national championship was gone. It seemed like everything that could go wrong did. Yeah, it really did. I kind of was lucky that when I first started as an editor, it was at January right when Pruitt was fired and hypo is hired. So the very first thing I did as an editor was we had a special issue come out about that. So that was pretty challenging. I kind of set the tone. It's kind of been more relaxed and kind of the first thing I was doing was writing about everything that happened with Peru and looking into the investigation and all this. And then we hire hypo a couple of days later. So you're writing about hand, you're looking into him. So it was kind of a tough way to start, but you know, here we are now. In terms of that investigation, and I know we don't hear a lot about it. But it is out there and there are some concerns not to dampen the spirit. But whatever happens there could affect recruiting moving forward. What are you hearing? Not much right now. Obviously, a couple of weeks ago, there was the news that Jeremy Peru was calling out some of the coaches. I don't know if that was just made or what I haven't heard much since then about that as far as Rick Barnes and everybody else, they get what's called out. So I assume there wasn't much stalking in that. But it's just in the back of everybody's mind, of course, recently, Tennessee decided not to self impose a bold band. I guess that's kind of the right move considering that they think most of the guilty parties, including in coach and players are gone now. So just doing that kind of protecting the innocent players that are still here. There's still looking into it a little bit, and they have some smaller punishments and the size of maybe the recruiting pullbacks like you mentioned kind of limiting that or limiting scholarships or whatever the case may be. Just kind of those smaller penalties. But I do think it'll have an impact on recruiting. Since they're not doing a bold band, they're going to impose those other panels there in that area. Talking to Josh lane who's a sports editor of the school paper. Josh, let's talk a little bit about your role. Before the season, we had the opportunity to talk to I think we talked to somebody from every different school newspaper leading. And it was so cool. And as you do your job, I know your contact and concert often with others. What is the mood out there among campus reporters, especially in the aftermath of what happened in Oklahoma where you had someone that does what you do, literally break the biggest story of the year by sneaking in, not sneaking, but he legitimately climbed on top of a building or something and looked in and found out what was happening with Spencer Rattler and Caleb Williams in Oklahoma. Yeah, I think he's kind of as you mentioned earlier when you came in and spoke with us is that that idea that we don't get much respect. And obviously, you know, you can debate with the other figures that feel like that. But with student journalism, it's always just kind of been behind just behind everything else just because of the fact that we are students. Obviously, we try to be as professional and treated just like any other journalist would be, but at the end of the day, we are students. And even though most other people in the media are very kind and very helpful to us, they're just in the back of everybody's minds. I feel like they think, oh, they're just students. So they're not as important. You know, they're not as credible or whatever the case may be. So to see, and to hear that story, what happened in Oklahoma, students taking the next step in breaking a story before anybody else and doing it in that crazy way. I think it just goes to reinforce that student media student journalism is a big thing and it is legit. It's not just students on the side just doing whatever they want to. It is an actual really can break news just like anybody else. And you mentioned. Earlier, and I want to thank you and your entire group for having me back to a building. I did know how to get there. It was so cool. Not to opine about my own experiences, but to be able to spend a considerable amount of time with you and your colleagues at the school newspaper. And then we had what I thought was a big surprise. We had the Chancellor. Ploughman dropped by and I had never met her before but I felt like I knew her and I told her I said the reason I feel like I know you Chancellor is that she's been on the front and center so often with a machine she's the one that went all in on Jeremy Pruitt. How did that play on this campus? When she did that. I think the mindset with everybody was kind of what you were alluding to earlier was just that it's a nice change because a lot of schools could have just swept this under the rug. It's very minor compared to some of these other scandals and things that happen. So the fact that they brought it out, they brought it to light, they call it. There's some schools that will not even acknowledge that they're under investigation, right? Yeah, that's what he just flat out said. That's guilty. That's what made it so different was the fact that she said that to the public, and then they fired through it immediately. They looked into it and now they've been so open and honest about the whole investigation since they've been working very closely with the NCAA. And I think that's just a nice change from what you normally hear about administration and kind of involved in interfered with the athletic program. Let me wrap up here in a second, Josh talking about what you're doing. And I will, for those who have never been in a position, I mean, you are in such a unique position. You're at this great university with football what it is. You got Georgia here this weekend. How do you approach your job knowing that there are a lot of young people who are reading you keeping up with you, however they are and not let all that affect what.

"Some today. we're back We still have forty five minutes to go. let's get some more calls in your anthony in louisiana. Hello anthony. hey how you doing. We're doing great. Thank you Good a look. Yeah i wanted to just put a little input about texas and oklahoma if you can hear me Tetris think is not going to do that. Well in scc. I think oklahoma. They'll come in and compete. You know just some opinion. what you'd think. Well i think. I think oklahoma will will slip in here very quickly and do quite well. I think ultimately texas will do what we'll do better but texas has to up its recruiting to the level of alabama oklahoma. I mean they're not that far away they just they just need to go up in class and i think ultimately they will to me without this texas who is going to continue to be mired in mediocrity but but i think the sec could potentially give them the shot in the arm that that's necessarily. Hey thanks for the call appreciate it. Jim georgia. You're on the air. Hello jim hey paul how you doing jim. We're doing great thank you man. Thanks for taking my call. A longtime viewer first-time caller. I'm glad to hear from you had a caller earlier. Speaking by georgian clinton playing we used to play all the time and hasn't great gangs back in the day. Some that i go along with long field though. If you wanna be you as a fable man pull up that Larry month and rex things kicking the ball. I remember that jeff. Kevin butler wasn't it. Well kevin butler kicked one that ranked bras the cape extra mile. Forgot that well. Yeah i mean the robbery is fantastic. And i think everyone is. I mean. forget the fact that it's one of the two of the top teams in the country but This game really ought to be back on campus. There's no hope. I hope it will be soon some is up next Go right ahead life. You're on the air. Hey miss a finebaum First time caller man Just so excited. I got a chance to come in with you. Well thank you. Just two things i wanted to say. I'm just so excited. I don't know really what to talk about. But i think we're going to Bama full-time bama fan me and my wife live here. Nor ford I think to our trouble games is gonna be ole miss and texas. All the almost game is at home. Now let's should help a little bit but you're right almost is going to be a threat to everyone this year. It's just a matter whether their defense can shore up and and quite frankly the game is circled There's not an aggie fan in the world. It's not thinking about that that afternoon. yes sir. Hey look here man. I'm just so excited to get your voice on the phone. And i watch your show every single day me and my wife and we are die hard alabama fan well license. I really appreciate your your calling. In and i hope you'll do it again and you guys Just hang in there and we can't wait for the season to get started here in a couple of days. Absolutely man have a grey week. Thank you appreciate it There was a pleasure to talk to you. Let's continue with more. Phone calls. And chris is up next in arkansas. Hi chris we're doing great. Thank you i met my question for. You aren't lsu But my question for utah coach saving. What does he do differently than than other coaches do football How does he keep winning year. In and year out with new coaches every year. What does he do differently. Well i think there are couple of things because you're right it. His his staff is always in upheaval. Because of success you know he is a a detail process oriented coach. What does that mean. That means that everything is planned out plotted down to the second. And i think the one thing he does not get credit for is his evaluation skills. He makes mistakes. Everybody makes mistakes in any sport but he makes very few and the reason why he makes so few as he is a student of the game. He's he he. He never stops looking at film he never stops evaluating and then he makes good decisions and you know again. You can afford to make better decisions when you have. The the field of players to choose from alabama does but you don't want to He i think he tries to avoid discipline issues which will upset and perhaps poison his team and i think ultimately success builds on top success but but he has always said. His success is coming prime primarily from the process. He hasn't laid out he doesn't deviate and then the execution comes after that. Right right well. I appreciate apollo more fine. How do you think. Lsu's going to do this year With i know there's big talk so going back to the toy nineteen year which is as we all know. There's a long shot vallis you family like to see. How do you think they're going to stack up in the sec. Quite well i'm pretty high on lsu. And i mean the first game makes me a little uncomfortable because you for this reason. Ucla we'll have one game under their belt. And that's that is a tremendous advantage in college football because so few teams get that job because we don't you know week zero is is not something we do very much with major games. Ucla hawaii this week. I'm really interested in that game. But other than that i think. Lsu has a really good chance of a big year. if i looked at the schedule Which we are looking at. I think as a little tricky just because of where it sits. I just notice a kentucky game. You can't go to kentucky without expecting difficulty. Florida at home is a real advantage. I mean all misses a little troublesome to on the road and alabama. I look at. I look at lsu schedule. I like the fact that am is at home but they have some sneaky. Tricky games on the road which which made me a little bit concern but having having talked myself into the concern. I'm going to talk myself out of it. As long as max johnson stays healthy. I think they have a really good chance of contending if he if he goes down. It's over There's there's no like there's no turning around thanks for the call to sheet it. Hairy in louisville is up. Next harry pile. We're doing great thank you. I wanted to talk to you about the kind football. That's what i wanna talk to you about. Of course like the idea. I don't like to add their Princeton clemson they don't play by the boss. Let me being the playoff every year. Because they don't play but now eight on your home is in there without me. Alabama might not even come out normal. You know what i'm saying. Well you're you're you're right And the one thing about clemson you have to give them credit for their record against the big teams are is fantastic. Especially the sec. But there are some theories about. Why are they so successful in these big games and you just laid it out. They play a pathetically easy schedule. They don't incur as many injuries as other schools. Do because of the competition and they skate I'm thinking about clemson's losses over the years. They've had a couple of Inexplicable losses like to syracuse or or pittsburgh. But but i mean this year i mean. Let's let's move the georgia game aside because we all know about that. South carolina state georgia tech at nc state. I mean that's a tough game in the acc. Boston college terrible..

"We all know that What's it feel like. And how much different is it even with. Covert concerns rising around the country. Yeah think everybody's excited to be back on campus now. Football back tennessee I would say everyone is still kind of skipped skeptic about tennessee. We got the new coach. But i don't think everyone jumping on the bandwagon yet. I think you know with the history. That's innoc- has. They're all kind of reserved as far as that. But everybody's excited to be back. They're excited to hasselbald meena neilan capacity again. It's it's hundredth year of the stadium. So everyone's excited about that. But i think they're still hold off from declaring tendency the national championship point the joshua final. Tell you mentioned pruitt earlier. And i know that's the topic nobody really wants to go to but It ended in an absolute disaster. Then we had the school chancellor and and the president coming out and throwing him under the bus. We're still trying to figure it. Phil fulmer leaves in in a matter of days. We're still trying to figure out really what's going to happen on that front. I realized nobody is saying anything. But what are you. What are you pick up around campus. What's a how big of a concern is that Impending investigation or the current impact the investigation. That's currently going on. Yeah it's a bit of an odd situation because as you mentioned no one really talks about it. It's something i think this kind of on the back of everybody's mind like well you know. Maybe if we're actually good night somehow you know. Make the playoffs or ballgame or something like that you know they might revoke it because you never know what the punishment is going to be. There's always the thought. That tennessee could impose a punishment on itself So but you know they don't really announce much as far as that goes you know. They don't let the media in and all that so. There's still some questions. Some some drawbacks there because nobody really knows But that's just that's just kinda how it is with these investigations. You know you ask the coach although give you as you know we're cooperating. We're doing our part and you don't get much more to go off the net. So i think that's just kind of something that's on the back of everybody's mind where you know we're not to worry about it now but maybe towards the end of the year could ask consequences on tennessee josh. Let's talk about you for a second before we go. You're in a coveted position. A lot of folks would like to be the sports editor of the school paper in a place like knoxville. What you're back to ask you what your back story. You're a college student. So there's but where you from. And what are your. What are your thoughts. Moving forward as You you tackle this job. Yeah i'm from From lewisville tennessee is just right outside knoxville. In here in this area my whole life. And so i'm pretty excited to be here at the daily beacon. Get this opportunity to be pretty cool things Cover tennessee sports. You know hopefully I'll be have a career that continues in sports journalism. That's what i wanna do this. What i love But yeah the beacons been great. I've had nothing but great experiences so far last year. It's kind of weird with kobe. Didn't everything's online but happy to be back in person. Even though you know. I'm like four days into it at this point but it's it's been nothing but great so far all the best. Thanks for making time. We hope to see if we Come that direction And maybe you could give us old some old timers a tour of the school newspaper and see if it's still there. Thank you very much. What applies pleasure to To have josh lewin And that is something that we are going to try to do as much as possible. We've done it three times. And i will continue to do it As we work our way through this week. And as i mentioned a couple of hours ago when we go on campuses We really do like Talking to the cat. I'll never forget. It was two maybe three years ago when the most memorable moments. I think we've ever had on a friday as we had The editor of the sports editor and in another editor of the daily beacon. We were up there at Areas hall and it was just amazing Amazing time just reflecting back on the year is and and talking about these young people in the prime of their life As they get ready to tackle the the end of their college career. And what's ahead for them. We'll take a break more of your phone calls right.

"Young student. Well speaks for itself student. Reporters and editors on college campuses as we go back to school this week. We've been a couple of places in our final stop. This afternoon is in knoxville. And we're joined by josh lane. Who is the sports editor the. Ut daily beacon. Josh thanks so much for being with us Congratulations on that position. And how are you get ready for a fall in knoxville tennessee. Yep all thanks for having me. I'm doing pretty well. We just started back on classes wednesday At a couple you know daily beacon meetings last couple days so we're getting back into the swing of things. It's been fun so far. I'm to let's talk about what's going on At practice and what we know sometimes coaches are helpful. And sometimes they make you guess. The quarterback situation seems to be where we're all is rn. Now in josh. Polls i i Fall what does it look like to you. Yeah we'll so far hypo has been playing cards close to his chest. He is not been willing to give starter yet I kind of the feeling that you know within the program. They've got their deaths chart made out and maybe they've got the top guy but they're not announcing that you get just you know it's hard to imagine that ten days before the first game. They're still undecided but they haven't released anything to the public yet So far i would say joe. Milton is probably been the guy that stood out as far as his size and athleticism. Strong arm that he has. But i've josh typos. Been you know not really willing to name starter yet. So let's let's kinda everybody's waiting on right now. Now coaches are always different about that Considering the opponent is for the first game. I doubt this is just a opinion. It really will make any difference but you guessed it hypo is just type of coach. Doesn't want to give anything away. Or maybe he really doesn't know hard to believe that though. Yeah that's what. I was thinking. I think he's just a coach it doesn't want to give it away on some of his You know assistance to defend coronations. All they've talked about that You know not wanna give away their base defense and also. I think this is kind of a a trait within the coaching staff. But you mentioned their first opponent bowling green. I don't think they're. I think they're gonna be full green regardless of if they have a couple of days for indices quarterback or not so. I think it's just something. That's within hypol- coaching staff this. This willingness to keep keep all the cards Their chest get every advantage that they can trash. Let's talk about this team because it's old news now that so many great players departed L. for elsewhere. I mean we're talking about some of the stalwarts of the last couple of years in knoxville. But how do you think it's gone without having seen him coach game yet other than in the spring. But how do think. It's gone so far for josh apple. Well so far quarterback thing. I would say so far so good for josh hypo At least within the program within the players right The kind of the mentality that some of the players had that they were talking about under jeremy pruitt there at the end was how much of a chore was coming in the practice. It felt like going into work on monday mornings and so far the know. The players had great reviews for josh hypol- In the vibes the culture that they're getting they're in the program. It's a been radically different. So i think everybody loves playing for him. I think he makes it fun. I think he's still. He's still saying disciplined in teaching. But he's got that balanced to where they enjoy it. They love coming in and playing football form. It seems like a certain narratives have have been formulated in one well. Tennessee may not win a lot this year. But it's going to be much more exciting to watch. I know that won't satisfy fans for a long time. But is that a fair description of what we're about to get into. Yeah i i think that's fair because obviously with hypo the thing brings that offense. And that's something that tennessee Been well documented in lacking. So you know just bringing that offense no having some quarterback competition and maybe a starter whenever they name it that you know might play the entire year and might be pretty good. I think that's something that You know something. That fans are excited for now whether not that means. He wins eight games this year. I don't think that's going to happen. I think it's still a work in progress. It's just hypospadias here. So give him time. But i do think that we're going to start seeing that progression in it might even start with you. Know a big. Big offense. Invite next thursday Against bowling green as you look at the schedule. There's certainly some flashpoint games and a lot of colleagues that we talked to here have pointed toward pittsburgh as being a really important game. They're all important. Let's not get caught up in cliches but because it's a good opponent. It's not a great opponents. Alex starting against clemson but pittsburgh is a known team because it really gets difficult after the tennessee tech game. It's at florida at missouri Those look promising sites south carolina probably and then the ole miss alabama kentucky georgia gauntlet. How do you evaluate what what these first couple of games could mean ultimately for the vol's yeah. They're going to be real important for tennessee. Because i mean you mentioned that you got it up there it gets it gets real god thing to the end so you know. Take advantage of bowling green pittsburgh tennessee tech. You know some of these teams. That should be easier. Now you mentioned pittsburgh can be pretty good and you know they're celebrating the johnny majors thing there so you know there might be extra emotion sarah from pitt. But you've got to take advantage of these teams that you think tennessee's got a chance to be that you can't let anything happen a couple years ago when georgia state comes back You can't let anything like that happened. So take advantage of these. You know these first couple of teams because as you mentioned. It's going to get real tough to win games for tennessee there at the end. So you know record. The winds while talking to josh lanes is sports editor of the ut daily bacon. Josh let's just talk about the the attitude. The mood on campus. Were about to see football in just under under two weeks now. The first game on thursday night last year was it was a mess..

"Hundreds of people fight in a field over the name. Josh honey is radioactive from nuclear bomb tests and a woman is accused of stalking a police officer who previously arrested her first stalking. These are the weird stories for wednesday on weird af news. This is the only daily weird news podcast by a comedian. Very happy. you're here. I got some weird stories from around the world. And i got a new piece of sound equipment. Enjoy it. Hundreds of people fight in a field in nebraska over the named josh. A lot of josh's gathered to brawl over the right to their name over the weekend. Dozens of people in fact named joshua they met in lincoln nebraska and they held a battle over the name joshua on april twenty fourth. The winter not surprisingly was josh tiny. Josh to be exact. He's a five year old boy. He was coronated with the burger king crown after a massive pool noodle fight. They use pool noodles. Guys know at pool noodles are they were invented to float their flotation device primarily but quickly. Most of us appropriated these devices to smash cousins in the face. Anybody else just me. Okay josh from all over the country. I'm talking about the u s survey and there are a lot of josh's in the us of they flocked to air park in lincoln nebraska. For saturday's of the joshes. How did this come about. I'm so curious it seems very fun. I wonder if there's going to be a battle of chris's and i would have to. Of course show up and fight for my rights to my name is video of this. And i watched a little bit of it. It's a pretty fascinating. It doesn't look very organized. Bunch of people named josh. I assume are smashing. Each other with pool noodles some addresses spiderman. Some as batman some are just as spartan warriors. It looks like a lot of fun not gonna lie. I can't think of a better way to spend an afternoon. If my name is josh and i'm stuck in lincoln nebraska where there's really not much to do i assume what what is there to do in nebraska in general. Is there some sort of sports hall of fame. They've got nothing nothing in nebraska in the video. You can hear spectators chanting josh. Josh josh josh. They're not chanting joshua it's too long. They're chanting josh. Josh josh. Can you imagine being a spectator to this. I would have to get very high end or drunk. And maybe like if i felt like participating if i felt like i wanted to take over the name josh for myself i suppose i could have fought for it. So how did this come about. The events origins date back to last year. When someone named joshua swayne twenty two year old student in arizona became very overwhelmed with boredom amid the covid nineteen pandemic so he messaged another joshua swayne and another joshua swayne on social media. So a bunch of josh lanes talking. The first josh challenged the others to addul over the right to their name. The first joshua swayne was very very upset that his name was extremely common and he wasn't able to get it on social media handles and whatnot. This is what the beginning of the this was sort of the genesis of his frustration so he challenges the other joshes online in the antics go viral it completely went viral. And that's how you can have an event where hundreds of people show up now as far as the battle for josh swain specifically only one of the challengers showed up so it was one josh swain against another josh swain and they battled in a grueling tournament of rock paper scissors and the original. Josh swain from arizona won the battle allowing him to claim the title of the true josh swain. We live in such a weird world whereas stuff like this can happen. I find it fascinating. It's very novel. I enjoy novelty the weirder. The better had i known about this. I'm yeah it takes a lot to get me to nebraska. I have to say not to say that. I would have attended this however if there was a battle for the name out there i would consider consider doing you quit your job in nebraska to battle for your name so fun. I love weird shit like this and to be completely honest. I can absolutely empathize with josh swain's frustration. Because i often find my name is duplicated. It's very plain chris. Jones super plain also. Jones e. is very common nickname. So it's difficult for me to get social. Media handles like jones e. That's why on all my social media. It's funny jones. Because i can get that one i can. I can't really get jones e. Although i have jones e. dot com and i got that one was pretty crafty to get that one very proud of that and if you happen to be bored. Checkout jones e. dot com. You can also email me at funny jones and jimmy dot com and my instagram at funny jones. And i'm just going to use this opportunity to pimp out all my social media some at funny jones on twitter. Okay by american honey is radioactive from decades of nuclear bomb testing. We a new study found that bees have been harvesting elevated levels of irradiated pollen for decades in the us. The world's nuclear powers have detonated more than five hundred nukes in the surrounding atmosphere over the years. These explosions were tests and shows of shows a force to rival nations and eventually proof that countries like russia france and the us have really mastered the science of the bomb and the world's honey industry has suffered for it according to a new study published in nature. Communications honey in the us full of fallout lingering. From those feerick nuclear tests over the years for the study researchers collected honey samples from more than one hundred hives and soil samples from one hundred and ten locations across the eastern united states..

"Here is Josh lanes. Bras, what is up welcome working interferences podcast didn't advice show. I'm Joshua Austin and Lance Timmerman forever. Lance, I had an opportunity about a week and a half ago. Yeah. To fulfill the dreams of a seventeen year old Josh Bowman. My goodness. No, it wasn't MRs stiffler situation now than okay less interested. Now kinda kinda turned off now. I get to go. See Hootie and the blowfish. Oh Oh my God. my guys. And I understand that, that may make many of our listeners snicker. Like most maybe. But I graduated from high school in nineteen Ninety-seven. I am a white prep. So that means that Houdini blowfish was instrumental in my teenage years. And so he came to Austin and I got a mazing tickets and I went with my best friend from high school David, and we saying every damn lyric at the top of our voices, every single lyric, except for one song that they saying that was one of Darius Rucker country songs that I don't like I don't do countries. So I didn't know I heard you went country every other soda Marie Osmond. Yes, I guess, successfully, I mean he is country following, I guess, we built it out every damn lyric of every damn UDI song, and it was amazing. And I will not apologize for that Lance okay? I was going to ask you who is like who's your version of Houdini blowfish might go? Hi leisure. Yeah. Like high school band like band that you were into when you're in high school that, like looking back on it. It's kind of a tough look, but still secretly play that album from time to time anything like that. Anything popping up in your in your brain? That's, that's what I really wasn't a high school ish. Or is it like wouldn't be high school? I don't know how would Barry Manilow and Neil diamond fall in there. I'm a fan, although I don't love Barry Manilow, my mom's big into Barry Manilow but I will ride with Neil. I will ride with that. They're awesome. I've seen berry live. I, I wanted to see Neil. And now as Parkinson is such that he asked too. He can't to. He had Parkinson's. I had no idea. Yeah. I would've figured he if he didn't have that he probably have a Vegas, residency or something and be well, I know that if you can checks he, he cancelled a tour a couple years ago because his doctor's orders. So if there's ever a moment where he's like in queens. He's like, I'm gonna play we will be buying tickets. And. Yep. Do you remember gross anatomy, unfortunately? Yeah, I still wake up and cold sweats, every once in a while..

"I was born on June fourth. I graduated from West Point on June. Third fifty five years ago. Just back from my reunion, you know, some of those guys have gotten old and this show is the beginning of frontlines of freedoms thirteenth year. This all started on the first weekend in June, twelve years ago, and it's been a fun ride. Oh indeed. The sixth of June nineteen forty four the day. The allies invaded Europe. Normandy France during World War. Two has always been an important data me co host air force vet Josh lane. Also the co founder indeed show is his idea. He sold it to the leadership, it would radio flagship station with information recruited me to host, Josh produced, the show for a few months than employment opportunities moving away and the ball was in my court, fortunately, I did, and still have a great support team which includes Josh. As we have frontlines of freedom. Look forward to our thirteenth year on the air, I want to share some of my goals and concerns for our nation. The world is a very unstable place right now. We have to be strong and prepared to defend ourselves and our allies, the incredible hatred and bias against Israel and Jews around the world around our nation is one example of things getting worse. Not better America is the greatest nation in the world. I've traveled a lot and have never been or even heard of any place else ride rather live, but I'm very concerned about our future of this, wonderful nation. We have always been far for perfect. We're getting further from our great potential. We're abandoning our values the values that made our nation. Great our education system is failures. Well, our students are learning how to do math and science, and all the all Ogies like sociology psychology. They're not learning the history of our nation or how our nation works a little about either our founding. Documents declaration of independence of the constitution, many seem to think the bigger government, and even socialism is the answer when both are the path of dictatorship. Our presidents that are not attacked by people who are full of hate while I like our president, and I have no problem with people who don't close minded, hate, which is also the basis of virtual the news in the mainstream media, leads, only to violence look at all of islands in our society, today, the hate and violence never lied, irrational discussion between people who disagree. No, so we're stuck with violence, virtually all of it initiated by left-wing haters. Why is there? No recognition of the great improvements in our economy jobs, higher wages. Why can't those who dislike elected official? Do what we've done before. Start planning support someone to run against them in the next election. I felt the President Obama's worst president, our nation's ever had I hate him or attack him, much less hate attack, his wife and kids, as Trump is experiencing. This kind of behavior is destroying our nation. Trumps hate filled accusers. Never come up with any proof after over two years of trying. Isn't it time to calm down except are properly elected government and work towards the next election, if we don't really setting the standard that of closed minded. Hey for all future elections, wanna live like that. I hope we will return to be a nation of toleration and living with our political opponents going back to our failing education system. Our colleges and universities are for the most part dominated by left-wing faculty. Now there's nothing wrong with wing faculty as long as they're balanced by right wing faculty in this situation. Students are taught how to think not what to think. But in our left wing dominated colleges. Conservatives are under attack. Conservative speakers are not welcome conservative groups are put down. We must teach our future generations, that good Americans coming all flavors, including all political flavors and the diversity is what makes great. So our guest on today's show are going to share. Values and goals that I feel will help return. Our nation to balance will even help identify things you can do to help move our country in the right direction. I don't expect everybody agree with all of what we discussed today. But I hope that everyone will agree that all perspectives must be welcome considered, and debated and violence has no place in our society. Let's do away with Haight. Encourage open discussion of all points of view, every proud of our nation. And those are my comments for today. This is Dennis Gillam. You're listening to frontlines of freedom, and now we get to enjoy some more wisdom with Roland. Ask me what do you have this week role? On September twenty six nineteen eighteen at about eight thirty pm off the coast of Wales, the coast guard cutter Tampa with a hundred and thirty one souls, onboard was sunk by German new boat, or PTO, the sinking of the Tampa happened just weeks before the war ended on November, eleventh, nineteen eighteen it was the single largest loss of life, for the US coast guard or the navy in World War, One after more than a century. The ship went down ten descendants of the Tampa lost crew received the purple hearts earned by the relatives in ceremony last week at headquarters in Washington. DC James Wilkie twenty nine was a cook aboard the Tampa in a seventy seven year old grandson, William Bonaparte, who also served in the army, and Vietnam attended the ceremony. His only wish was that as late mother Anna bottom part could have been present. She was four years old when he died, but spoke of her father often, they're planning on taking them back home to Charleston, South Carolina, and holding a small ceremony at his mother's gravesite, another descendant, Henry height of Saint Augustine, Florida and his wife Ingrid brought with them clipping, from the Tober fourth nineteen eighteen addition of the Brooklyn, New York daily eagle which noted that fourteen of the Tampa crew were from Brooklyn in Long Island. One was second Lieutenant ROY Bothwell twenty eight of Brooklyn heights first cousin twice removed. The Tampa was an nineteenth mission as a convoy escort on runs between the Baltar and southern England when it was hit by the torpedo sank in three minutes of the Wellstone of Milford. Haven. Of the hundred thirty one aboard a hundred eleven from the coast guard in four from the navy the rest were British sailors, or civilians, purple hearts, were, not awarded by the US during World War One but resumed in World War, Two the award was extended to coast guard in nineteen forty two and nineteen fifty two congress made the awarding of the purple heart retroactive to Ibra fifth nineteen seventeen however, the crew that Tampa was not eligible for the purple heart until nineteen ninety nine at the ceremony last week of call some of Delaware received the purple heart on behalf of his great uncle Cox herald, Tonnison thirty seven who was originally from Norway. But it settled in Brooklyn, according to letters sent home Thomasson kept a dog and a cat of Tampa. I'm sure the coast guard didn't know about that. The others from the Tampa who were posted Wesley awarded, the purple heart include first Lieutenant Archibald Scully thirty five. Baltimore master of arms Joseph Saigon, twenty-seven, Massachusetts Behmen Shanahan Twenty-one of New Jersey seaman Edward Dorgan Twenty-one of New York, firemen, William Hastings, Twenty-one, Philadelphia, and semen, Shelby, Lehman twenty five of Kentucky. Also receive in the posting purple heart was boy, first class. Paul Webb, twenty one of Saint Petersburg, Florida. The radium boy was used at the time in the coastguard and more than five other, quote, boys were listed in the Tampa crew, the community do a little bit more research on this whole boy, rating thing in the coast guard anyway, for frontlines of freedom. I'm four enough for rolling Ashby. Thank you rolling. I appreciate you so much, straight ahead on frontlines of freedom. We'll discuss the challenges, our nation faces with Nate Anderson from concerned veterans for America. Then we'll discuss next year's election with combat veterans for Congress's captain. "And I mean, it was it was weird how out of sorts that were in the defensively. Michigan state wasn't where it needed to be. So it's been a little bit funky. Frankly, see MSU turn into this. Now, it gets a home giving. Minnesota get right on Saturday. But then it's gonna turn around and a week from today. It'll have a game at Wisconsin. So we'll see where it goes from here. But I was weigh in on Michigan state being a top five team. In college basketball, didn't foresee really any circumstance parish, which this team will lose three straight. And yet here it has it's done just that. And now the big ten which rates a strongest in college basketball, suddenly has drama because Michigan and produced top the league standings, which just two losses and the Michigan tied in the loss column with Wisconsin. And Maryland is the other team that is within shouting distance. I think the easy thing to do is point to the loss of Josh Lankford and say this this this is what happens when you lose somebody who was averaging fifteen points per game. Somebody who was clearly one of your best stories, you know, you sort of explain away. Michigan state's recent troubles the same way. You would explain away. Keynes's his recent troubles. They were triggered undeniable. Ably by the loss of your Doke as a book. But here's the difference. Keynes's has been like playing five hundred basketball since it lost Doke. They've never been good with him. They have some good wins with. I mean, they've never been good without him. They've got some good wins without him. But they've been wildly inconsistent up and down without him. Michigan state went Walsh Lankford the first game. They played without him was January second it was against northwestern. They went Eighty-one fifty five then they play Ohio State when Ohio State was ranked in the top fifteen. They went eighty six seventy seven and they played Purdue Purdue team that's now in the top twenty five beat of seventy seven fifty nine and they go to Penn State win seventy one fifty six go to Nebraska when Brassica was healthy beat Nebraska, seventy sixty four then they get Maryland at home beat him sixty nine forty five another double digit win. Then they get Iowa at Iowa that's Iowa team. That's good. They go and beat them by fifteen points on the road. They started seven oh without Josh link for so. I don't think it's a simple as they lost fifteen point per game score. What do you want to do because they beat at least at the time? When the game was played one two three top twenty teams. Without Josh Langford before they went on this three game losing streak with Josh lane for. So I do think it's a little more difficult to to pinpoint Michigan state's problems than it is some other teams that their problems are clearly tied to to injuries that they've endured. Yeah. I do. To a certain extent. But I also don't love Michigan state's chances in March to win six games in a row without Lankford. And I believe in that even before they hit the slide and Lankford was officially ruled out for the season with that mysterious foot injury. So we wait and see on that by the way in the in the in the big ten on Tuesday night. Michigan did get a win at Rutgers which is no automated thing so that Michigan state's loss combined with Michigan's win also created room for separation within the league on Tuesday night. The Michigan state loss at Illinois was not the only upset on Tuesday night. There was another big one it happened in a big east. We're gonna get into that in a moment. But first check this out if you're trying to hire people, and you're not going to ZipRecruiter dot com slash I on that ZipRecruiter dot com slash I on then you're not being smart about it because normal job sites. They simply cannot do. What ZipRecruiter.

"Games i think it was sixteen when i started and we went to eighteen and my god it just seemed like to extra conference games was like four decent regular season games you know it because everybody knows each other so much intensity the fact that you're gonna play in a pack place usually i think the two extra games is enormous now we put two more on top of that and tried to sam what you men and i do think it makes for better games but i think we're all trying to learn how to handle that in and and that's been a little difficult with practices and everything at least for me it's been you know i gotta change i've been in the league so long that i've i think i've been here since it was fourteen or sixteen games and it was eighteen now it's twenty and i bet you when you voted on that a bit yell the coaches voted twelve zero not to do it right dr league but i think for the most part you know people and i give jim credit i mean it's better for t._v. it's better for what we're doing and i do think it's good to have the rivalries i mean it's crazy that michigan michigan state only played once produced indiana only played once and but it is different as an dan what do you think on that i mean you played in it then conference games are a lot more taxing i mean you go play duke and carolina and in crazy it sounds it's not as taxing to conference game some think this i've said this forever we we see and we say well pros play any two games and they to class every day they don't get up and and okay the game so i can't tell you how many times having is different now than when i play the demands i i can't tell you how many times i went to michigan game and either mole or dunkin or derrick walton or whomever i would drive them back to the dorm after a game and they had to study and it was like man i am examinating people that's tall know we go to purdue and we play at one o'clock in the afternoon i said god we'd just come from iowa got in at two thirty in the morning and and i said we go to do and i said oh good i'll get home in time to have several my family and actually live we get to the airport and i think they master nuts at purdue sabotage there we couldn't start the plane so we we sat there for an hour and then we bust back five hours ten thirty at night anyway on a bus the whole time you know with a couple of guys can everybody i mean there are so many things you've had the air when you played and then you got the kind of see the area where your son played and now you're seeing a little bit of the air when he coached and i yeah he has a different coach and as a player to coats coates agree with this coach nine os used to sing a player should come in division one college basketball coach for years a red shirt and then play in that have a totally different perspective right link for guys josh lane for you know if first couple of games he was out of his you know he was doing his normal stuff but then when he realised going to be for a little longer he started trying to take on he's he's an unbelievable kidneys coach got to have a purpose and i said okay you got all the out of bounds place underneath the basket you gotta make sure guys at garner guys ready both authencity defensively so if you watch him he actually does it on the bench and he says to me the about two weeks ago he goes why are these guys doing this here's a west so brother welcome it is different you know they really he really looks at it differently and he's living with those two freshmen that are kind of taking his spot and aaron henry and gay brown and i told those guys sitting i told you when you got to hang with josh and now they're trying to hang with just four months later you know six months later and realize that it's not as easy as you think so i.
