NFL approves emergency 3rd QB after 49ers' injury woes in NFC title game
"NFL teams will be allowed to play an emergency quarterback from the inactive list if the first two are injured during a game. The rule change was approved by league owners and stem from San Francisco's depth chart challenge in the NFC championship game. The emergency activation can only occur after an injury or disqualification, not for a performance related decision or other conduct. The forty-niners had to send Brock purdy back into the NFC title game with an injured elbow after four stringer Josh Johnson suffered a concussion. I'm get them cool ball.

"That there was a provision for an emergency third string quarterback that you could carry on the roster into a game. Where you could have had somebody who was behind Josh Johnson. I mean, it seems to me that that's the kind of fix that they might that they might land upon here just to sort of ensure that there's somebody out there. You can prevent the three quarters of the game from being a disaster. I thought that used to have something like that. I think they used to. But I think that I think that teams got in the scenario in which they were trying to outsmart themselves and started using that backup option for other positions and all of this. And it went away. But I'm pretty sure that they used to have a specifically backup quarterback. Yeah, I thought that they did. I thought that they did. But I don't remember the history of that. But I wouldn't be surprised to have that come back, right? Yeah. Because you could imagine a scenario in which, like, just pick some unemployed quarterback right now, who could have done a much better job than brought purdy or Christian McCaffrey in the second half? The NHL actually has that where you designate like some local guy to be your third goalie, people get hurt. And I just have it, I was watching it. The only reason I was watching this was the biggest on money on it, but the oils are winning like 8 three and their coach like the university of Alberta goalie play the last three minutes. As the designated emergency was pretty cool, actually. Like a standing ovation, but so it actually is not a bad system. Like just to have it because, you know, like, frankly, you're probably gonna win anyway, but like why not just like have like a taxi squad guy who can only play quarterback. And you can even have it as a rule that if the emergency one comes in, like the other people can't return or something like that. So you can't believe you can't fool around with it, but I don't think it seems like a workable system to me. I don't really see, but I guess the other way of looking at it is that if you have to bring in your quarterback who's behind Josh on the depth chart, like you're pretty fucked anyway. There's a really good amount. So you have Christian hackenberg is like, I don't know. It's a really going to be that much of an improvement, I guess. Fundamentally, if your top two quarterbacks are out, it's not likely to end well, it's a playoff game, so. It's probably not the big deal. But I don't mind it. I actually think it's not a bad it's not a bad idea. At least I have something you can play the position. I don't think. You'll be glad that oh, by the way, since you brought his name to the Christian hackenberg is presently coaching high school football in New Jersey. That's an honorable enough profession. He got second round pick money for I don't believe he ever threw past an NFL. So he did throw some pics of that. What was that weird lead that played like three months? Not the XFL, was it? I don't know what they called out. Yeah, he never played in the NFL. That's amazing. He was in the alliance of American football. He was on the Memphis team and in doing so in three games he threw for no touchdowns in three picks.

"But here's the biggest problem with Cam Newton. I think cam, his problem is he wants to be the man. He wants an NFL team to commit to him and say, you're our day one starting quarterback. We're paying you to be that. And he's too old. It's not going to happen. No NFL team is going to say we're committed you are starting quarterback. Like it's best bet is to go to a good team, learn the system and hope that the starting quarterback gets hurt. Think about cam on a roster like New Orleans, where Jameis doesn't play well, or he gets hurt, cam can step up. He's had time to learn the playbook. He's ready and he would dominate. I bet he do well. I think any quarterback who plays with New Orleans roster this year has a good shot to do well. Or Dallas, if dak Prescott got hurt, he'd have a lot of fun playing in Dallas, or Miami's interesting, if tua was not playing well or got hurt, Tyra killed jaylen waddle, that running game, a good defense with Cam Newton. That's interesting. I would pay to see that. But cam doesn't want to be patient is the problem, honestly. And I don't think he wants to do all that work of being a backup being Josh Johnson or Tyrod Taylor. I think Daniel Jones is going to start for a while in New York when he inevitably plays bad or gets hurt. Tyrod Taylor is going to become the starting quarterback in New York. He put his ego aside and said, I'll wait till I get my opportunity. I'll be ready. I don't, I don't know that cam wants that. That's okay, by the way. But he sounds like a rich and retired guy. And unless I'm starting, it's not worth my time..

"Like any running back in the league, could have ran for at least 8 yards, a lot of the time, because the colts oftens a line was dominating. Against the jets. Now, the other interesting storyline from this game is that the jets, backup backup quarterback came into the game. So my white hurt his hand and then Josh Johnson came into Josh Johnson played pretty well. The jets put up 23 points of him at quarterback. And I just kind of wonder are the jets going to keep for quarterbacks on their roster? Because they have Zack Wilson, Joe Flacco, Mike white and Josh Johnson, and I just you would think Josh Johnson is the first one to go, because Mike white had that great performance and Joe Flacco that traded forums at number two overall pick. But do you cut Josh Johnson after a performance like that where you played really well? Put up a lot of points and rallied your team a little bit. I don't know. I'm really interesting. Brutal, the NFL like Josh Johnson play very, very well. And then literally lose his job tomorrow. So we'll see if that happens. But this is an interesting story on there. What will the jets do with their quarterback room? Okay. Here's a fun one. In 2018, I made a video called do not draft Mike white. And I rewatch that video earlier today and kind of the whole point I was making was that he didn't handle getting hit very well in college like he wasn't stepping into throws and I don't know. I don't really remember evaluating him. It's kind of fun to look back, I guess, like, was I wrong three years ago? Three years ago make a video. Don't draft him, and then in 2018, he has a really great day on Sunday and plays fantastic as another day on Thursday where he plays really well. We don't really know. Looks like he's pretty good quarterback. And I think what's interesting about this, I went back and watched that video and I want to let everyone know for a multitude of reasons, this is not a video I would make today, not just because I think I might have been wrong..

"They had over 250 yards passing and 250 yard rushing. How balanced that is that's just a recipe for disaster for the other team, especially the jets. They could have stopped the rush or be passed yesterday to save your lives. The colts were also efficient in a red zone, three or four, as well. They were the better team. But I'll give some props there because there is one thing the colts need to work on moving forward and that is their past defense. I like their front 7. You know, when you got divorced Buckner and Darius Leonard, you're going to be good. But the secondary has some concerns, especially when Josh Johnson comes in here. I throw from the yards and, you know, they have 400 yards passing against the cold. That's something the colts need to work on their four and 5, but if they're hoping for a playoff spot, they're vying for one. They're gonna have to have their secondary do a lot better. And then the judge, we need a better ground game as well. To me, you can't rely on, you know, your rookie quarterback, Zach Wilson, or Mike light or Josh Johnson to bail you out because they're not those type of quarterbacks. They're not you saw Mike white steel you one. Last week, I don't think consistently. When you games, that's just not who Mike white is. That's not who his jets football team frankly is. But I've got a message. I know Thanksgiving. Everybody likes to talk about, you know, taking the Lions out of the Thanksgiving lineup and with how bad they are, especially this year, I'd be fine with that. You know what is a tradition? But does every single team need a prime time game, for example, do we need to see the jets once a year on prime time? I know this was their one slot right here. You know, I know they played the game in London. Shouldn't that count as their prime time slot at least for London? Do I need to watch them on a Thursday night game? I mean right now, to me, it's just pathetic. It really is. To me, they're not a winning team. So I don't really want to see them.

But we are excited to talk patriots Panthers with you folks tonight. Pretty good night for Boston sports so far out to blow out wins for the bruins and the Celtics and the jets are down three touchdowns to the colts, although for playoffs eating, I'm not sure if that's a good thing for the Patriots maybe. We are lost as football fans. If Mike white's going to miss time, the legend Mike white, we all lost not getting to watch him. Yeah, Mike white is injured for the jets. Now two quarterbacks down Josh Johnson is in the game for New York, but we're going to talk about the Patriots here. We're going to talk about some news that we can say that rumors, whatever you want to call it, often on top of the show here. And I know that there's going to be a lot of people in the chat and in the comment section asking us about Desean Jackson Alex. He was released officially by the rams. He has cleared waivers. He is now a free agent set to sign free to sign with any team that he's so chooses. So first and foremost, I guess the main question is is do you like the idea of Desean Jackson coming here and being a New England patriot? And where do you fall on DJs? Yeah, I mean, I'm obviously I'm not getting my hopes up. I don't necessarily think they'll do it, you know, you say this to me all the time. They've had a million chances to quiet this guy and they've never done it. So he is kind of redundant to Nelson Aguilar. He's probably better, but I think they would see him as redundant. So, look, they did it, I'd be happy. I don't know where they get the money to do it. But he are actually no, because the rams are still on the hook for his contract, right? It's what he's. So his contract is now the Patriots are going to have to pay his entire salary if they do sign them. But the points he's already getting paid by the rams. So I would have to go look and see if he got any guaranteed money. I'm sure he did get some guaranteed money in that deal. So yeah, technically speaking he's already been paid for the season in a way. Yeah. I don't think it's going to happen as much as I want to see it as much as I'd be all for it. I think they have Nelson agglo in that role. I think they like him in that role right now and you know, they already have one receiver Nikhil Harry who they can't really get on the field and I just don't think they would see it as having a spot for him. I think it's definitely the redundancy thing with Nelson Aguilar because Desean Jackson's not a Truex, right? If somebody came available of D Jack's caliber, that was a true receiver on the outside. I'd be really interested in that kind of move. But to me, he is a Z or he's a player that's going to play condense to the formation more than he's going to play, truly out on the boundary and be a factor outside the numbers as a deep threat. So in that respect, it sounds a ton like his skill set sounds a ton like Nelson Aguilar skill set..

The jets only win against good teams. Mike white fills in for zach wilson. He becomes just the second quarterback with four hundred passing yards in his first. Nfl start joining cam newton. Who we already mentioned at the show at one point in time. Josh johnson comes into the game. I mean this was jets team that a week ago got totally blown out by the patriots and a bangles team that a week ago dominated the ravens in one of the biggest wins for the franchise in recent history and yet the jets. Come out with the thirty four to thirty one win jenny. Shades of twenty Twenty jets where you know a quarterback controversy just feels like it's lurking in the background all of a sudden. We have mark sanchez over here and greg mcelroy over here and tim tebow over here and nobody knows what's going to happen next but we do know that mike. Why starting next week But i thought i thought this is. I think here's what i said about the jets all season. They're not going to be a good team right there at at best. They're going to win five games this year. But you can judge the relevance you can judge the ability of robert solid by how tough they hang in games and you know as much as everyone lost their minds over that fifty point game against the patriots last week they come back and beat a team that was tied for first place in the east which is very division in the afc north. Two very good division. And they've had this kind of like little thing all your if you take the patriots games out. Which again i mean. Can't that's something that's happened but if you remove those games against the coach who hates you. The most in is the best coach. Nfl history. They've been tough team. They've played tough. They played good teams tough all year. Despite the fact that this roster is largely threadbare and so. I think you have to give them a lot of credit. They've they've showed a lot of feistiness this year. Yeah i think when you're changing an organization you're trying to set a new culture or have a new head coach chen and it's taking the team in a different direction. Positive reinforcement is so important in. That's why we always hear teams don't want to have these winless seasons because you get no positive reinforcement for the entire year so i think this is great for robert sala and his new era is that there are these big wins and like you said they're not gonna make the playoffs this season but if you can come out of this season with a few things to hold onto. Now i'm sure the jets would prefer that most of those things include the quarterback drafted number two overall so the fact that this was a big performance by mike white probably wouldn't have been how they had drawn things up. But maybe the backup quarterback position was better than we gave them credit for. We have talked a lot about how they didn't have a veteran. Backup for for zach wilson. And they didn't have somebody to turn to you but mike white was sitting there all along. Everyone's underestimating are underestimating him. The very least thursday night football. This week looks a lot more entertaining now. I am excited to see if mike white is actually good. I'm very excited to see the continuation of the mike wide area and a very excited to see i've i've i've always loved like kind of zeroing in on different coach things that happened during a game but i will say that robert solid genuine sideline joy is one of my favorite things like when he wins games. He looks just genuinely thrilled about it..

That would be Jake Doe gala, of course, and then Brian murky, who was only here for a little bit last summer, but he sort of knows. Then they could go with another Brian Hoyer, just another veteran and other teacher for Mac Jones. I look at a guy like Garrett Gilbert, who I thought did given the role did well last year in Dallas in Josh Johnson, who's been on 14 NFL teams. He's been cut 20 times, but hey, he's seen everything. That knowledge is valuable. You know, you don't look good for 20 times. He's been caught 20 times 14 NFL teams plus three other professional teams. He's with the Sacramento mountain. Let me see if I can do this. Sacramento mountain Lions who I think were the UFO he was with the LA wildcats of the XFL and then he was with an AAF team the San Diego fleet would be so he was with three non NFL teams in the Sacramento mountain Lions, were the UFO. They were not the fxfl, so that's the one league. He hasn't played it. But yeah, 2014 teams since 2008 he's seen a lot of football and then the other category they can go to is because they still do need a backup quarterback. I don't think it's Brian Hoyer beyond this year. And, you know, if we were to project ahead and there's a lot that's going to happen between now and then. But if we were to project ahead, I would say that they're probably going to need a quarterback and get next off. He's not a starter, obviously, hopefully. But they still need to find a backup. A sustainable backup for Mac Jones. So maybe they dip into that pool. I thought that potentially will grier could be a guy who could come in and be a backup for them for three or four years. I liked his upside. He was claimed by the cowboys. The other option, somebody beat me to it in the chat, Kyle law letter. I was going to draw who they reportedly really liked coming out in the draft in 2018. Somebody mentioned Stidham, he's going to be out for at least the first 6 weeks. So bring in any one of these guys, cut him 6 weeks in instead him becomes your third quarterback. Or you could just roll with this guy and not activate Stidham. Especially because maybe you want to keep this guy on the practice squad. If you did him, you then have to call him to get him back on the practice squad. He might get claimed. So I wouldn't rule out a third guy. Those are kind of the three branches they could go. I guess Danny yelling falls into that first category. But he's really bad. But yeah, there's a number of directions they could go. Yeah, the one player quarterback I can tell you that it's not as bend the new gene. That's the only one I got. I don't know who it is, but I know it's not been the nucci. The other quarterback that I wanted to throw out there was Kyle lauletta, who had a decent camp in Cleveland. What.

He didn't even mention will grier. Well, so I was going to say there's two different ways you can go. You can find another veteran in addition to Hoyer who's going to be another pseudo coach for Mac Jones. And that could be a guy like Garrett Gilbert that could be a guy like Josh Johnson. There might be a guy like Kyle Lola, who we know they liked in the draft a few years ago. The other direction they could go is if Jared Stidham and maybe this is just until Jared Stidham comes back to. You could sign Garret Gilbert or Brian lurk or whoever and then he did him ready to go. You cut that guy you bring back to him. But the other thing is, I don't know that Brian Hoyer is going to be the backup beyond this year. It really seems like Stidham's a lost cause at this point if we're being honest. So the Patriots quarterback search continues, even beyond Mac Jones. And now there's starter, but they're going to need a backup here. So maybe you go out, you find one of these younger guys that got cut and you see if that guy can become your backup. Like your long-term three to four year backup. And if that's the case, will Greer, who I really liked in the draft in 2019. Third round dick was cut by Carolina today. I don't maybe he can be a starting NFL quarterback. I don't know that that's relevant in terms of the Patriots. I do think he struggled with coaching changes and system changes. Global pandemic last year was crazy because it was the first thing that ever happened. That happened to everybody. "Josh Johnson ornate, sun filled one of these guys at the 40. Niners brought in to to be one of the backups for this year. And then, of course, drafted trade land. So my thoughts or my question for you is any surprise here that In the very first days of the first snaps. We see it. Oh to it's all Jimmy G for the first team. It's all tray lands for the second team. Kinda looks like it will be not necessarily baptism by fire. But Trey Lance looks at least early on like he's going to be the number two guy which could create some Like real competition at the starting level. I think when we get into the season, yes, I mean, I would love to see Trey Lance eventually push. I'm not surprised right now Copes. The Jimmy G is going to get all the first team reps. And I don't expect Trey Lance to get many first team reps even later in the summer. Just because we saw when Jimmy G was traded from the Patriots to the 40 Niners how long it took Kyle Shanahan to get comfortable with Jimmy G in this offense. I think that three or four weeks went by before Kyle actually handed over the keys to the offense and said CJ Beth third, you're out of here, and we had all seen the way that CJ better looked on the field. We were all craving the opportunity to watch Jimmy G on the football field. But you bring up a really interesting point that the 40 Niners could have baby Trey Lance right from the start they could do with the Green Bay Packers did. What Jordan Love. People Forget that. Yes, Aaron Rodgers was the starting quarterback in Green Bay. And, yes, he was the M V p last year, But Jordan Love was not the backup in Green Bay. It was some guy named Tim Boyle, who I think through one college touchdown pass to 13 interceptions. If I recall correctly, just some horrendous stats. Yet Green Bay wasn't even ready to trust him. Boil or excuse me wasn't even ready to trust Jordan love and I get that it's a different situation. Going at the back end of the first round, as opposed to going number three overall, but Trey. Lance only played one college game last year trade. Lance has thrown fewer passes in high school and college combined. Then Kyle Trask Buccaneers draft pick through at the University of Florida last year alone, which is just a mind boggling stat to me, and so shows how green tray lances and it also shows what kind of confidence that the 40 Niners having him because Nate Sudfeld he's been on the field in a big situation. I was trying to, you know, really suppress the Eagles chances of winning at the end of last season when Doug Peterson put him in the game, Josh Rosen. Obviously he's been on the field, big situations he was unintentionally suppressing the Arizona Cardinals chances of winning by being on the field. And so the 40 Niners could do a few different things that they wanted to, But I just think that it makes the most sense to get Trey Lance the second team Reps. And the better practice experience when you can. What do you think? Yeah, I'm with you. I think it's it serves you better, especially if you're going to use a draft pick on a diet number three. I think you have to be ready or pretty close to ready to put that guy into a game of Jimmy Garoppolo goes down, and also it's going to create a real level of competition here for Jimmy G, right, and I've been thinking about and he came on the Murphy, um, actually earlier this week, and he did the media tour earlier this week and talk to obviously to the Bay Area beat writers, but my side was boy. This guy could be a totally broken quarterback based on the injuries. Is that he's accrued over his couple of years in San Francisco, based on the fact that he was already a trade peace after the deflate gate scandal, and he started three of those four games while Tom Brady was out before he got hurt. Then his name was mentioned for two years in trade rumors. Then he comes over here, and they go to a Super Bowl. And then it can Jimmy make the big play. Now, for three years we've talked about Jimmy Garoppolo is whether or not he's like a gay manager or can bring a championship. To San Francisco into the 49 ers, and then they go out and they make another trade for top three pick and they take a quarterback at number three. This could be a guy who was totally broken, but I've always loved especially in the game of football player with something to prove. And I think Jimmy G is of that mindset. That's how we talked about it with Murph inaccurate earlier this week that Kyle and John are going to give me an opportunity to compete. I've always been a competitor. This is the most I can ask for, and that could be a little bit of lip service. Sure, but it's also sort of a sink or swim situation here. If you're not better than trey lands they will move on. There has not been anybody behind Jimmy G to light that fire under him, and I don't want to say that every athlete needs that and that Maybe you need that to become the the best quarterback you can be. But I think it's going to serve both of them well to have trained and sit for a minute. See how the system is run, maybe see some of the mistakes that are made. See what he's better at than what Jimmy Garoppolo is better at And then Kyle Shanahan can make that decision because he's lit a fire under Jimmy Jesus, and by the way, John Lynch earlier this week gave a little bit more explanation to, uh to Chris Collins worked on the Chris Collinsworth podcast about his calling of the Green Bay Packers, saying, I can't be that guy who just didn't call about Aaron Rodgers if you were available, and we actually have that sound, let me fire that for you here that the thing I've loved about John Lynch and Kyle CNN is much like the Yankees. "Mark Scofield our guest long ago. In the conversation. You mentioned the point about Tom Brady's dad and sort of the feeling that this is just how it has to end. But with certain quarterbacks quarterbacks in a certain level, maybe And I think I read that. Rogers is one of five players to have won three M V P awards. The other four guys all ended their careers with different teams. Rogers is the only one Manning Brady Farm and United ended up going to different teams for different reasons. Um, so it can seem like this is sort of normal. If Rogers does move it one thing that I think about so Denver didn't draft a quarterback. Maybe they're sort of leaving room for him. Carolina was the same thing. Carolina did trade for darn old previously and then gave him the fifth year option. But still like you move things around for for a player like Rogers. Mark Watson is still somebody that this has to get figured out for two and the first thing. The ongoing thing, of course, is the legal situation that he's in. And I'm not here to make a prediction about that. But well, I guess I guess I'll say something like I feel like probably he'll be suspended for some amount of time. But who knows? Just a meaningless guess. Still, though, he didn't We know he didn't want to play for Houston anymore, anyway. Probably doesn't but he plays somewhere else. I mean, I would think he's going to be in the league, and so I wonder how maybe those teams or others are still sort of proceeding here with respect to him. Yeah. Yeah, that's sort of the elephant in the corner of the room, right? Because all the weed up until this legal situation started to unravel And watching his left was the idea that look, that relationship was also fractured beyond repair. I remember saying that with you guys Couple months ago that there's no way he's coming back to Houston. And look what the Houston Texans do when they finally were on the clock In the third round. They drafted a quarterback and what do you stake? Davis Mills could be an NFL starting quarterback or not the fact that they went quarterback when they have so many needs on that roster right now. Tells you that internally. They probably think that even if watches cleared to play at some point, he's not coming back to play for Houston. So I do think it's you Mike Carolina with who is rumored to be in it to Shawn Watson mix before this went down. Yes, they drafted they traded for Sam Donald. But I don't think they can go all in on Sam Darnell's being the savior down in Carolina. I think they it's similar to the Rogers discussion. If you have an opportunity to require player after Sean Watson's talent, then you will go down that path. Obviously, teams that would be calling about to Sean watching. They're going to have to have this legal situation of the back of their mind. Does that impact his value? Can you make this trade as an organization before this is resolved? Those are some things that It was. Your decision will be made by people above my pay grade. I mean, there's a lot of excitement about what they did this offseason. You mentioned the secondary. Greater than you know Josh Johnson, the safety, huge acquisition for them. I think they were in France last year that they had a bunch of safety, but nobody could really be that sort of middle of the field post Safety type player, and they just added that and Johnson It was a tremendous acquisition for them. They're gonna get Grant. Help it back. They had Troy Hill. And then Theo read. Continue without into the you know the draft cycle. Adam Greg News in them the northwestern corner who's more of a zone coverage job. He has the ability to click and clothes on routes to drive on place. Make disruptive place in the catch point. He's got a bit of an injury history, but That's a secondary. Now that can match up with some of the elite passing offenses that they'll see in the A F. C. Whether it's Kansas City, whether it's Buffalo that ability to sort of create mismatch create matchups on the defensive side of all that's huge for them. That out of Jeremiah will shoot, come or the linebacker from Notre Dame who they could use is a safety they could use in the slaughter. He's played all over the place. I really like what Cleveland did. No other teams that also, you know, made a good use of their draft capital over the draft. We can sure you could make a case for the Jets. You could make a case for the Dolphins. You could make a case Friday Number of teams But I really like where the Browns have put themselves over the course of both free agency and now the draft. Do you think New England is a playoff team? The big I mean, could they be? Yes. What does it come down to? Quarterback? I mean, period full stop. They made some acquisitions. We We know all about the receivers. They added the title. They added the players they're getting back. All the defensive side of the ball, but you could have all these weapons around the quarterback position. But if you can't get consistent, solid quarterback play in this league the way it's set up today. You're not going to be a successful teeth. And so whether that's Cam Newton whether it's Mack Jones that remains to be seen. I think the roster outside of quarterback is a playoff roster. But quarterback is like half the battle here in today's NFL, and if they get the same level of play from Canada they got last year. I don't think they could get into the playoffs now. Couldn't get close. Perhaps could they perhaps steal again that they might have lost last year, given the editions of talent of the other positions, perhaps, but I do think that it's really there come down to whether they can get sustained. Consistent production out of that quarterback position, and I have to see it before I buy in on it because Cam was very high variance last year, and then when you talk about dropping a rookie quarterback, and potentially that could go a couple of different ways..

Signs a contract that makes him the richest player in NFL history 16 months ago. Two years ago. This week, he was the starting quarterback in the Super Bowl. Today. He's a Detroit lion. Life comes at you fast. So what do we think? Let me start with this. I love it for the rains. Absolutely love it for the reins to me. This puts them directly among the Super Bowl favorite. I just finished up a TV show in which I played a game called Prisoner of the moment. I am that Am, if nothing else, a professional over reactor In my professional overreaction today is That the Los Angeles Rams are now on the shortest of short lists. BV team to beat in the N F. C. Tampa Bay's quarterback is going to be 44 years old next year. I don't know who the New Orleans Saints quarterback is going to be. I'm not 100% sure you know who Green Bay's quarterback is going to be. I think you're looking at some of the other teams and I reserve the right to absolutely a race. This if to Shawn Watson winds up in San Francisco, and that happens, forget it. If Shawn Watson winds up in San Francisco, it'll be the second time the Bay Area has ruined the sport for the rest of us in a decade. If you like the Warriors, adding Kevin Durant If the 40 Niners wind up with two Shawn Watson, then just forget it, But I don't expect that to happen. I guess I shouldn't say I don't expect it to happen in the absence of that happening. Believe the Rams have as good a chance as anyone. Matthew Stafford is a I believe, and he's going to get the chance to prove it Now. I think he is a terrific player. He has more than enough time left to have a full and complete second act second chapter of his career. He turned 33 a few days. That's more than enough time. Look at the age these quarterbacks applying to and I'll tell you what you love about Stafford. That's the effort. Week 17 of this past season last game of the year. Was on the injury report with three different injuries, three different injuries. The same week that, by the way, Carson went to was a healthy scratch. Because for the Philadelphia Eagles, he was out with hurt feelings. Matthew Stafford, with three different injuries played. Meaningless game and was in there fighting to the very end. Why? Because that's what he is. He's a football player. And he is out there fighting like crazy for his team to the very end. I love Stafford. I'm a huge effort fan, and I think they are set up for enormous success in L. A. It does not mean that this does not come with significant risk. Can a man made that point with us this morning. They have zero margin for error. It's reckless and irresponsible to go eight years without a first round pick. You have great core players Erin Donald, Jalen Ramsey, But if any of them get hurt, it's over. And then when you layer on top of that, that you have to keep good young players like Josh Johnson, Troy Hill, Leonard Floyd You have a very small window with no margin for error. Yeah, I get that. I think it is totally right. But you know what? Cannot sit here and criticize the Green Bay Packers for trying to win next year's Super Bowl and this year's Super Bowl at the same time. And not love it when the Rams go all in Los Angeles Rams have gone all in Trying to win a championship in this window. Have the best defensive player in the National Football League, and Aaron Donald, a generational talent, a transcendent star. Have Jalen Ramsey, who was as good a cover corner is there isn't a sport. They have good weapons on the offensive side. They have a good offensive line. They run the football with two different guys. They have two different tight ends. They got Cooper Cup. They got Robert Woods. Now they have a quarterback who was a difference maker and you're going to see it. Good to see what Matthew Stafford has never had a chance to show you.
