"On Monday. You know, he's open to taking your phone calls. You can have a conversation with me on Twitter that's BW Weber, Webber with two B's getting closer to our number two of the program, thus far it's been nothing but NFL. We're gonna keep that going, talking Denver Broncos football and Russell Wilson presently will start our number two of the show trying to get a handle on the future of two a ton of violet and then we will incorporate our first guest coming up at one 20 Eastern Time. Take you around the NFL with Mike Jones national football writer for the athletic I will address some NBA coming up and I can let you know there's another wrinkle involving tonight's Thursday night matchup details coming up. A reminder, this NFL postseason every Westwood one NFL broadcast streams live for free. The wild card round, the division round, AFC, and NFC championship games, the Pro Bowl games, and Super Bowl 57. Thursday Night Football was already filled with uncertainty when it comes to who's going to be on the field for your Tennessee Titans, who have completely imploded. They've lost 5 straight, but because they had such a robust lead within the division, they will still have the opportunity to win the division title. Next week, winner take all when they take on the surging Jacksonville Jaguars. So understanding from a playoff consequential standpoint, there's no meaning for Tennessee tonight and given the injuries they were already dealing with, Mike were able has made it very clear this is going to be a glorified pre season game because I figured we get another look at Malik Willis, who has struggled as many rookies do. Now, if you watch more than the red zone and I do my best to pull up highlights and just get an eyeball summary of a player, I don't hand out grades. I'm not breaking down tape, but will this has looked overmatched? Still, young player hard to learn on the job, but he's had some very rough games. So I guess I should not be overwhelmed with the news that was announced within the last 15 minutes. Josh dumbs starting tonight for Tennessee. Now, it's a good human interest story. And Al Michaels must be losing his mind even more. Al's been a little bit cranky on Thursday Night Football and he's the best in our industry and the best of all time. I think when it comes to calling football, certainly right there with baseball, but you go from the Sunday Night schedule. The best games every week to the floss and jetsam of Thursday Night Football. At least from a standpoint of having the fans in Tennessee having a reason to cheer tonight, you probably recall Josh jobs was a terrific college football player in the SEC for the Tennessee balls, making his first career start tonight I recall when I was deeply involved in the path to the draft he was selected by the Steelers wound up with the Lions, what's it mean? Tennessee's going through the motions tonight. Now, the counter is back ups are highly motivated. We have seen Dallas within the last month play down to the competition as recently as that game against Houston. They tried 7 different ways to lose it. So I'm not telling you not to watch. I'll be watching my job after all. If you're inclined to maybe enjoy other things, I'm back tomorrow. I'll give you the takeaways. I don't break games down. I'm trying to tell you what's important from whatever happens on the field. And we'll talk more about Dallas and how much I actually believe in them, which I can't believe I'm saying as I'm trying to be objective given all of the reasons Dallas has given us over the years to come to the conclusion they are frauds. Ben a horrible year for the Denver Broncos and a real departure from their proud history and you have to take a step back in one term, how much of the decline of Russell Wilson can we blame on a coach who from day one looked like he had no earthly idea of what he was doing. And I'm not trying to take shots in Nathaniel Hackett, but when you have that mental lapse week one against Seattle and you're playing for a 67 yard fuel goal, spite the fact that the franchise went all in with draft capital and when it comes to scratch giving Russell Wilson a contract on paperwork 240 million, the guarantees more like one 60, but still huge money. Why don't you use him especially in his homecoming back to Seattle? Try to have him make a play instead, you're selling for a 67 yard field goal at things hit rock bottom last week against the rams with Baker Mayfield scoring half a hundred the sidelined verbal altercation, the fight with Randy Gregory postgame. It was time for Hackett to go. So, here is the real question based on whomever takes that job. And if you follow all the NFL insiders that come to mind, Ian rappaport, Adam Schefter, Jay glazer, there is a degree of speculation unless Sean Payton is just negotiating through the press that he doesn't want that job in Denver. Because he views it as no win because he thinks, at this stage, although he's only 34 years old, Russell Wilson may not be fixable. And that's really the entire thrust of what's going to happen for the Broncos moving forward. Now, a legitimate head coach can solidify that locker room because clearly there are major divisions going on within the roster in Denver. Part of that comes down to the veterans looking at Hackett saying, this guy is my boss. Not gonna happen. I'll see you later. All right, co jacket, be good. So you have to have a grown-up in the room. Is that Dan Quinn? Is that Jim Harbaugh? And I'm gonna spend a lot of time talking about horrible future, both today and tomorrow because I don't think it was a coincidence that he had the interview with the Vikings last year on the record officially we knew it occurred, even though Michigan finally made it to the playoffs and they're back this year, getting set to take on TCU on Saturday. Whoever it is, can you coach up Russell Wilson? And I'm not sure. And sometimes you do have to trust your rise because we saw this from Russ at the end of his run in Seattle, go back to the COVID season, first half, 2020. Remember we were talking about Russ finally winning the MVP. He got hurt, never looked the same last year was riddled with inconsistency and this year has been a disaster. So we can go through all the names, and that's a fun time of the year to kick around, who might be going where I have empathy for everyone who might be fired, but it's the cycle within that profession. But whomever it is and paint makes a lot of sense based on Russell's own perception that Drew Brees was his favorite player growing up because they're both not tall. I'll go with diminutive. Well, is anything really going to change because unlike Drew Brees, Russ is not a prototypical drop back quarterback. He's had his best on the move. He doesn't move that well anymore. He got old in a hurry. Now, if you're a rush fan of the pushback would be a fill and hack, whoever you are, to look at that offensive line, what's he supposed to do? I get it. Not saying his career is over. I'm saying, I think it's a bigger, more of an ask, a fixer upper project that is larger

"Got to at least the right tackle skill set for them if not a left tackle skill set and we had to get a tackle in here, right? We had to get somebody that could add some developmental upside the play tackle in the long term start to tackle. I think at the worst you get a guy that's a really good third tackle at the best you get a left tackle in the middle is right tackle. So I think that that's checks a box and that's okay. Yeah, I mean, you're not necessarily counting on him. Unlike those top three guys, we're probably gonna apply and probably gonna have to play. Yes. You're not counting on walker necessarily in 2022, which is fine. The idea is when I say win leaves next year, you have a guy you can slide into left tackle can start week one and you don't have to go essentially with the year to develop and you're using a top 100 pick on that position this year instead of a top 50 pick on him next year. Right. Okay, so Josh job we both really like Josh job physical press man outside corner from Alabama. I think what I liked so much about this double dip is that I think job despite some of his shortcomings, right? And he does have some speed limitations. He's not fast. He does struggle a little bit down the field on vertical routes when he's not jamming guys at the line of scrimmage, but despite those deficiencies, if they have to hold off on playing Zion for a little bit, then I think Josh job is somebody that can play right away. So the one thing I'd ask you, how much did Josh joke did you watch from 2020? A little bit because yeah, his 2020 tape is definitely better. For sure. Specifically, you mentioned the speed. He played through a foot injury most of last year. That's true. And I think that impacted it. So here's why Josh job falls..

"Him. Brian Kelly's gone, he's still a Brian Kelly player, I guess, so it doesn't really work, but like, they might dip back in Notre-Dame again. And they might just bail on LSU. Brian Kelly's not a good coach. Yeah. Notre-Dame players rarely hit. You know, I know there's a couple league right now claypool is one of them, but yeah. So the question that I had there busts. So the question I have here is, do we double up at a position like corner? Yeah. I think that's definitely not a terrible idea to hedge our bets there with Zion McCollum or do we take the running back now? Because we could wait till one 58 and probably get a solid running back, I would also put doubling up on offensive line, right? Getting a guard here is in a terrible idea either. So I think there's a guard we can get a little later. I think Josh job. I think Josh joke he's fell at this point. Yeah. And he was the first round pick at one point. He just said it down here. Right. Remember last year they took a bunch of guys who were better two years ago than the year before. That's Josh job to me. Yeah, he definitely has a physicality in the press man ability. And he comes from a system that's basically a carbon copy of the way the Patriots run their coverage. So if I am a column, if they have to wait on ziya McCollum for a year until he's ready to play it at this level, Josh job could probably play as a rookie. In the way that they're on their scheme. So we also did, I mean, we took chenal, if that's the picture sticking with press man, they're just going to make it work with the personnel they have. Yeah. So Josh jobs the fit. So I think Josh job. Okay. And then we would do Josh dove, and then I think we go with an anterior offensive lineman and a running back with those fits round picks. So I think we do well, we only have one 5th round pick left, because we traded one. All right, well, we have two 21 now. Okay. So we have one 58, and then down at 200..

"On somebody like booth and the NFL is just based off of where he is on some people's boards right now. Some of the plugged in media. So Andrew junior is an interesting conversation. There's some guys later on in the draft on day two that I think are interesting. This is a position where I would be really shocked if they don't take somebody in the draft at corner because regardless of JC Jackson situation, they just need bodies at that spot. And they need some bump in somebody with upside too, right? Because I think that Juan Williams, that ship has sailed. So they need somebody that could potentially come in here. And even if it's not right away, two or three years down the line can develop into a starting caliber corner. Well, I think we both know who that guy is. But we'll get to him in a little bit. I'll tear this like I did with the defensive tackles. And mostly focused on outside corners. They're good in the slot for now. You've still got Jonathan Jones under contract. I know miles Bryant had a rough go of it against buffalo, but I still think he's a good player. So first round, outside corners, first round, maybe realistic, this might change after this week. Andrew booth, junior, you sold me on him. You've given him enough rave reviews around Josh job. I think Josh job is interesting to me because a lot of the reasons he's not a first round pick are things that are going to be insignificant to the Patriots. He doesn't have a lot of scheme versatility. This is kind of the flip of what I talked about with Jacoby dean earlier. Josh jobs really only oppressed me in corner. So a lot of teams are going to write them off. Patriots want press me on corners. They don't care that he can't play zone. Right. So they might see him as a value And then the late round guy, I think the most exciting prospect in this draft, not the best player, but the most intriguing, exciting, interesting prospect in distract Evan, I hope we're on the same page with this. He's Tariq rolling UTS a I can not, I don't know what this kid is gonna be, but I can not wait to find out 6 four two O 5. There's rumors he's gonna run a four two 5 40 supposedly. Yes, some people think he's gonna break John Ross record. Well, supposedly he clocked a four two 5 last week working out, right? Yeah. So again, 6 four two O 5 four two 40 converted wide receiver we know how the Patriots love those guys who change positions. He sees the game through a receiver's eyes as a corner, he's very raw. He's incredibly rise, only played corner for two years. But you want to talk about potential. Is there a player with a higher ceiling in this draft outside of the first round than Tariq woolen? I don't know that there is. So the biggest concern that I have with Tariq, 'cause you gave all the positives of why he's a great prospect. The biggest concern that I have with him, watching him is how he plays with his back to the football and press coverage, right? So when he's playing with his back to the ball and he's trying to play the ball in the air without eyes on the cornerback, he loses the ball at the top of the catch point, right? So that leads to a lot of losses down the field that way. But then there are times where that speed just shows up in the open field or he just chases somebody down from across the field and you're like, holy crap, this guy can really move. So I like to equal in a lot for his upside as well..

"He can play all of those types of weak move linebacker type roles that you want that the Patriots and every patriots fan wants speed speed speed at the second level. Quay walker is it. The guy that I see, maybe not as big as Jamie Collins, but I think there's a lot of Jamie Collins in his game, right? Length, athleticism, freakish freakish athleticism, this guy is going to absolutely murder the combine next week. I think that he's everything that you would want in that position and that pick. Plus at 6 foot three to 40, maybe you get them up to two 45 once you get them in the building. He's still got some sand in the pants. And he still got some length to be able to press blocks, get his hands into people and create some separation and get off some blocks when they are asking him to shed and stack in the trenches. So a really a lot to like about clay walker and this is another one of those picks too where I look at it and I say, if they can just draft anybody from that George defense, I'm taking them. That was one of the best defenses in the last two decades in college football. I think anybody from that defense, whether it's at the first level with Davis or Wyatt or walker, the other walker, travon walker, quay walker, tindall, dean, Louis scene in the back end. Just get somebody from the door to defense. It really doesn't matter who it is. I like boy walker personally, so that's why I took him. But anybody from that Georgia defense is good with me, that you just can't go wrong with picking off a defense that goes 8, 9, ten deep with NFL prospects. Josh job. Josh job cornerback from Alabama, third round pick, definitely has some flaws, not a perfect player by any means, grabby, has some penalties, but when you watch him play, press man coverage, the guy beats people up. He's in massive corner. He's got great physical tools to be able to play press man and he can really bring it in his jam and in the initial parts of the route to really get into guys and really press guys at the line of scrimmage and make it difficult for them to get off the route. So you'd look about pairing him with a guy like JC Jackson, what I like about it is that when you go up against a Mike Williams, you go up against a Corey Davis when you go up against some of these bigger X receivers that are going to play on the outside..

"But a florida can't get pressure. This game's over the other injury here to monitor is the status eventual miller. He's florida starting linebacker. He is the the leader the quarterback of the defense. He's dealing with an elbow injury. It sounds like to me. Todd unless you have differing information that he's not necessarily trending in the right direction as of but will we will have to keep our eye on that from now. It didn't sound like there was a high level of optimism because if you read some of the quotes that were there they were trying to figure out who could assume their responsibilities. And that's not something. You're doing early in the week if you're optimistic. That kind of caliber of player from a leadership standpoint is going to be out there so i think it's the save assumption to make as we sit here on wednesday. We know things will change a four kickoff on saturday. Eventual miller won't be out there for the game against alabama. And you raise them real interesting points. They're talking about the boomer. Bust mentality for florida. And i almost think that that's the kind of approach you have to take into alabama. Because if you're going to play the bend but don't break defense against the crimson tide. You know you're going to be able to slow them down for a limited period of time so if you create those plays force at turnover two. That's a gamble. You're willing to take knowing at the risk of giving up a seventy yard explosive. Play over the top always looms in the back of your mind. One thing for me paying that. I'm curious to see in. This game can alabama at their ground game on track. I mean you talked about their offensive line issues in pass blocking. But i wasn't blown away with their effort against miami trying to establish brian robinson who is expected to be the next great in a long line of alabama bax. So let's see if they can create some balance on that side of the ball. Meanwhile for florida. I think both you and i have some skepticism about emory jones. Coming into the year a lot of people called him a darkhorse heisman candidate. And that's probably credit more to dan mullen than emory skillset. Suddenly we have anthony richardson. Who goes out there. And has eleven carries for two hundred and seventy five yards including an eighty are run. Usf but richardson was injured. News relatively optimistic. He was out of practice about his availability and a hamstring. And in my opinion pain. When you look at this florida offense. You don't have that same level of skill position town in a kyle. Pit cadaverous tony a trust so. I think having that change up at the quarterback position between emory between richardson knowing. They have to get the ball. Jacob copeland goes a long way if they're gonna keep alabama stop unit off bounds. I think you're spot on. Although i don't know yeah is it. Emory jones is an anthony. Richardson is it a mix of both. What's the rotation and snap percentage look like they are stylistically at this point very similar. Whoever the quarterback is. I think it's pretty clear this bama's best defense and couple years even without christopher allen. Who's that that'll be a big loss here. Not just on the production side of things. But he was kind of the leader. And you're going into a hostile environment. Sometimes you know you give up a big player to the the calming effect that the defense needs so. Let's see if he's missed that way. Florida i don't know what they are. Offensively it's really interesting to me. They're bama has dominated early in games with their starters on the field giving up less than three yards per play in the first half this year that taken a lot of starters off the field in the second half obviously that metric includes the mercer data. Point where bama held them to less than one and a half yards per play again pretty impressive dominating inferior opponents can still help project and alabama's defense has done that. We thought the unit was improved. We've gotten confirmation through two games that had has. Let's see what dan mullen comes up with. His best attribute is scheming and designing an offense right calling place. Everything else has gone man. This is what he does and if you listen to his presser is basically said all week. He's told anyone who wants to listen that he's held things back for this game. I'm not sure those new elements look like or if emory jones can even execute them. But let's see. And the issue that we saw with. Emory jones coming into the year was that it was a massive downgrade from trask. Inaccuracy last year. Fifty three percent of emory jones throws were accurate through two games against one defense outside the top one hundred and efficiency in the other one barely inside the top fifty. Emory jones been accurate on fifty five percent of his throats. And you mentioned richardson. Gator fans are clamoring for. ar fifteen. He looks like he's built in a lab and he's a big boy he's he's sprint and ten yards doing backflips and you know he can run. He can throw the ball a country mile. He dropped a couple of times last week. there's a thrower he was running. Laugh jumped in through like thirty nine yards in the air to copland. And it's like you know he looks like patrick mahomes. But when you look at all the throws and not just the highlights in the wild place forty five percent accuracy. Accuracy rate through two games hasn't done a lot of passes small sample. But you know we we see the highlights and we obviously know the ceiling with richardson's far greater than with emory jones. But you have to be precise against album. Right knowing the passers that that emory and richardson of kind of shown to be at this point florida's got in the early down battle. Because if you think. Emory jones is beating nick sabin from third and six. Plus you have another coming bama has done a great job. Stuffing run special in early downs. Twenty five percent stuff right through two games have done well creating havoc with both the front seven and their defensive backs. But i think this game's pretty simple if you're watching at home. What's the third down marker. Say and fortunately because this is an on espn three espn plus. You're actually be able to see. Cbs let's hope they got the down markers working. And so if you're watching this and it's third and five or less and florida is bypassing a good number of third downs. They'll have a chance to stay within the number if not alabama's gonna win by three or four scores. The positive also for alabama is the opposite on the injury. Front right will anderson status just an absolute pressure monster. He is trending in the right direction that the injured b serious. Expect them back at practice today. Josh job in in our more davis both return to practice already so alabama a little bit healthier on the defensive side of the balls while you seen anything on the total for this game. I mean this feels like the element is high variants in terms of trying to assess value in the betting market as the side is years while i haven't but obviously dan mullen has proven to have some success against alabama's defense in the past with some of the things he does but as you alluded to at the top right you know. Tony isn't walking through. That door pitches and walking through that door. Trask isn't walking through that door. And so a lot of this is going to be on. Emory jones to be inaccurate passer. Sure we have seen mobile quarterbacks give savings defense from troubles in the past but all those guys could also throw right. When you think about the johnny manziel they could throw the ball. Emory jones hasn't proven that he's a consistent enough passer. And so if you're in alabama defense who's got thirty seven analysts when you kind of come up with a game plan here. It's going to stop. The legs of the quarterbacks i in turn them into passers second right that that's at school. It's what's going to happen here so from that perspective. I'm not quite sure how florida's going to move. The ball. Offensively as as dan mon alluded to. Maybe there's a surprise here. Maybe there's something on film that he has not shown yet means bend in the sec. He's been an offensive mine for fifteen years. So i don't know what those things could be. Obviously you come up with new elements in the off season every year but in at this point we kind of know it. Dan mullen is offensively. I don't know if he's got the horses to kind of pick. Alabama part like they did last year and then from the other perspective is. Let's see what alabama's offense is. If pressure is on there could be some boomer bus plays. They're dutch just.

"An interesting thing about that. When ben roethlisberger was on injured reserve he was on the sideline with a clipboard and a headset. So could josh. Dobbs be on the sideline clipboard headset. Talking to ben rothlisberger looking at place helping them. The offense without being you know on the fifty three man roster injured reserve might be the best possible thing. Yeah jerko can linger but For an injury. That's not crazy. And maybe it's the best thing for both parties. Josh jobs that just going to full. Jackie moon this year. That player coach basically mike Assistant qb coach honesty. Call is like he's just the smart guy. That's ben trust with every fiber of his being. What would it comes out on that field. So i think that's That's the way that's going to go down. But as key will follow like byron left which in some other guys from the steelers who end up a coaching an offense kind of on that path. But you're right. Except he is also legitimately genius. That i feel like the world would be doing disservice having someone so smart when it comes to rocket scientists literal rocket engineer and then have those talents kind of be used as a as an offensive. Play caller as selfish. Football fan yeah the great but i feel like junk shops might have bigger things in his future so i guess we'll have to wait and see on that you being football coach might pay more so i don't know who knows how does either way i think he's set up pretty good but we are. "And i'm bringing a t- again this week. After the pittsburgh steelers preseason has drawn to a close no they couldn't wrap up the defeated preseason but that may be a good thing depending on your kind of outset mindset on these type of things but the steelers drop in a pretty ugly fashion thirty four to nine to the carolina. Panthers coach tomlin took to the podium straight off the top. He said he was disappointed. In the team's performance surprising to nobody that he wouldn't be happy with that game First and foremost coach tomlin pointed to the offense not being able to take care of the ball as one of the biggest factors in why they performed so poorly. He thought the defense started out. Okay but because the offense was unable to move the football and turn the football over so frequently. They got tired and in doing so. They made mental mistakes and all in all coach tomlin. So the offense and defense were junior varsity which is a kind of a theme for this. This post game press conference from mike tomlin kind of judging guys on whether they were varsity status or junior varsity His words and we will see it to brought up a number of times. Now the last thing before we got to The question period was a breakdown of the injured players. Marcus allen Hurt his hamstring and had to leave the game. Josh jobs at a turf toe. Which saw dwayne haskins reenter the game. Midway through the fourth quarter coach salman would further go on to say at mcfarland's zach. Banner were left at home for treatment to injuries. That they thought would be better. Served a just staying in pittsburgh and getting treated up there. He also was asked later on in this in this. Press conference The status of candidate who was held out of the game because he was sick. There's no more reports on that other than just kennedy being under the weather and something that kinda monitor i suppose in. Today's climate one of the questions. That coach tomlin was directly. Asked was about the long snappers however and we'll start with that one now because christian kunsi of course got all the reps tonight there. Is that kind of long snapping battle that has been going on and survived every round of cuts. so far this steelers were to hang onto kunz. They would have a player that has a million dollars cheaper than candidate and also a better tackler. The pros in camp candidate side is that he snaps the ball at a higher velocity about one tenth of a second faster which yes does make a difference in the nfl. It could be the difference between getting blocked and getting a kick away so it'll be interesting. See how that shakes up whether or not the steelers shut bank on a little bit extra cash and a little bit better special teams coverage skills or someone who can snap the ball faster. That is one to watch as the week goes on and cuts become official taking things off the top now from the question period Coach tomlin was of course asked about dwayne haskins who pretty Pretty pretty adamantly. Put it that day. He was not varsity in this game. it wasn't enough from haskins of course to get the job done. The next question was again on dwayne. Haskins reentering the game and scoring that touchdown very late to ray ray. Mccloud of course Coach tomlin said that might be good for Dwayne haskins to get the taste out of his mouth haskins that is because of his poor performance from earlier in the night to finish in the end zone. But it didn't change anything in terms of the final score the game it It was kind of just a play that could help haskins. Maybe sleep better at night. But it's not going to change the overall grades of the players or how they will be judged upon when time comes down to it to make those cuts Coach tomlin was also asked about what he liked in this game if anything at all and he quite simply put it he didn't like much the final question of course Bondsteel curtains favourite position battle. That we've been monitoring for the last couple of weeks. The punting battle that coach tomlin was asked about really seemed like the only bright spot in the game and the only bright spot of this press conference coach tomlin said presley. Harbin and jordan berry had been varsity. They've been competitive through this entire process. And he's got well. He's going to judge the entire unit special teams wise on film after the game before they can give any fair assessments just to make a prediction myself. It seems like either. Punter has put themselves in a position where the steelers might be able to recoup a draft pick Instead of cutting either them because jordan beria played very well from so maybe the best punting of his career while pressing. Harvard of course burst onto the scene. And we all know the story. If we've been watching the game there with big press so that about wraps things up for the coach tomlin press conference breakdown for the final week of the preseason. Of course we'll be back bringing this action in two weeks time after the pittsburgh steelers take on the buffalo bills. Ladies and gentlemen. It's time for some regular. She's in football. The next you hear this podcast. They games count and boy. Oh boy to. The steelers have a big one to kick the year off with so make. Sure you're dialed into behind the steel curtain dot com. Which once again should be your one stop shop for all things..

"And i want to see him be accurate when he's throwing the ball past fifteen yards because in today's nfl you to be able to Chunk out yards. And you got to do it quickly. So if ben dwayne haskins isn't able to throw the ball down the field really what use is he we seen him in washington throw some Some pretty brutal turnovers. When working down the field he cannot be so conservative. especially in this Training camp he needs to really kind of push to make this team make those aggressive place and sh- and prove that he can do it so that's what we need to see. How to duane. Haskins out of josh dobbs. If he can. Just keep up this consistency. I'd like there's no way that the steelers could possibly move on from him just by releasing him because he is proving to be a solid backup again. We know how much ben rothlisberger respects him We know what he can do with this feet if he can. Just be a guy. That sticks around on the roster. Someone ben can pick his brain on the sideline and heck if ben sitting out a game. That josh dobbs package that we saw a year ago. I thought was highly effective. If he's the number three quarterback. I would love josh dobbs package. en- games were if ben rothlisberger isn't the guy you could turn josh jobs for series for just a change of pace Number of place. It was very effective against the browns. And i kinda wanna see that. Continue now for mason. Rudolph what he needs to do is be more consistent and just be better in the pocket and that's something we've heard year in and year out with mason. He needs to be a guy that can work on his fetal but Hit the guys. When they're running the routes in the hands a hundred percent of the time he just needs to take that next step as a quarterback Just put it all together. He has the deep ball. He makes good decisions. He doesn't typically really throw a lot of turnovers aside from one browns game where he got. A helmet walked up the side of his head. He really doesn't turn the football over whole heck of a lot so if he can just be more consistent Continue to move the chains. Just be the the guy that he is but a little bit better. I think he could be someone that is definitely at the very least a career backup and someone that kind of pushes for starts here and there. If there's a rookie somewhere down the line so that kind of wraps things up for the backup portion of the show the second half of the live mike will become coming up or rule. Fake focus on ben rothlisberger. What he can do in this twenty twenty one season and what we can expect from him really moving forward so stay tuned.

"Is a match up nightmare. Tight end you. Have john michie from last year. He's got the opportunity to be the guy now as alabama's lead receiver. I've seen him already. In looking metrically he's been able to crush press coverage so teams are focusing on him while obama's trying to figure out who their number two receiver is. I think that bodes well but expectations are championship or bus. Todd and i think that ultimately is decided by regime. Yeah and i think that's the biggest question here. People are gonna go. No alabama's gonna be good and we say it all the time man. You do a better job than i do kind of articulating pain for alabama and eleven and one season is a disappointment so us saying that alabama is going to be good unless we're saying they're going twelve and your underperforming to market expectations and i think that's so important to try and get across to betters whether they've been doing this for twenty years or this is their first four a deep dive into college football a new legal markets that fan duel has enter you have defined teams where the market disagrees with your sentiment saying alabama and clemson are good is one thing but if the market is three to five points higher in them there's going to be valued going against them and when you look at alabama this year pain early on if bryce young has some issues or concerns i mean defensively bannon may have to raise its level of play because they haven't had a top ten rush defense in tuscaloosa since two thousand seventeen but they haven't needed it when you have quarterback pedigree liked to a handing off to matt jones and some of the receivers but defensively this may be a return to more normal see on this side of the ball but let's be honest if there's one question i have about this alabama coaching staff. It's not o'brien and marrone on the offensive side. Let's see what we can get out of. Pete golding defensive coordinator with a ton of four and five star recruits led by linebacking core. That should be absolutely stacked. It's really eerie. That we have not talked about any of this. We did not exchange notes. Neither of us put together a template for what we were going to be talking about. But we're on the same page because if there is a dip offensively alabama's defense is going to have to be a little bit more dominant to carry the tide. This is year three for pete. Golding alabama's d. c. There is varying degrees of good for alabama's defense but pete hasn't put together an elite defense. That can just carry. Bama to a title like we've seen during saban's tenure some years and that's partly because how the games played now and it's partly because p golden and if you look at the epa numbers alabama finished seventy fifth last year outside the top twenty five and success rate allow. All we hear is how dominant alabama's defense is in the trenches and how they recruit nothing before and five star monsters that crush at the point of attacking her grown men playing against kids. Alabama got pushed around last year to your point outside the top fifty five in line yards outside the top eighty and stuff rate gave up four hundred yards of offense four times now. I do think this bama defense might actually have more talent than last year guys that contributed as freshmen sophomores looked to have more potential than some of the guys that left last year will anderson. The five star freshman in shortened. Offseason was top ten in the country and pressuring sixty pressures as a true freshman. that's nuts. he has potential to be alabama's best offensive. Lineman since clinton williams. Josh job is an island type corner that loves depress. You'll out a lower passer rating when targeted than the ninth pick in the nfl draft patrick's retain last year malachi more in jordan battle performed. I thought extremely well as underclassmen. You have a true freshman this year and the names going to be a all over the place names kool-aid he's an early in raleigh all signs point to him starting at corner. You had a pick in the spring game so there's more young talent that shone it can produce and be elite than i've seen in recent seasons. The question is can the young guys. Put it all together and churn out a better season to make up for the dip. Offensively and and i won't lie in you. Hit perfectly as we segue.

"Did last year With you had an interesting stat. Courtesy of one of your listeners on the radio show yesterday if anybody out of all the teams that had defenses what that allowed was the twenty eight points or twenty nine points per game or higher. That the raiders. Were the only one eight. A derek carr with their cards starting quarterback with that offense so this team. I mean yes. The defense was far far far away from being playoff caliber defense but with with all the all things considered you look at the miami game right. You look at the charger game on on on thursday night. Even looking at chiefs game. And it's tough candy chiefs twice and not saying that should be an expectation but those are three games at all. Come down to the final possession. Know more or less you make one play here one player there and it's a totally different outcome. You're looking at maybe ten or eleven and five and all of a sudden. You're you're in playoff contention if that's the case so but like you said with the improvements. The raiders made in terms of brain in new personnel or rally in the improvements that you're expecting from your younger group. I think when you take a look at the schedule it's tough. There's no doubt about it. But i think it helps that baltimore at home helps to be at home against miami dolphins. It helps to see those. Nfc seems bill when the raiders are better than in washington who i think the raiders are still a little better than even the washington as a good defense. Those games are at home and then you look at the roads schedule outside of division games. Yes cleveland very good pittsburgh's and we we figure he's going to be pretty good but we don't know about alice with with how bad their defense was last year. And we don't know about the giants. The giants had their moment. They were competing that weird. Nfc east last year too but like we sure about daniel jones. He turns the ball over quite a bit sure they upgraded his supporting cast enough during the draft during free agency to where we think that they have a distinctively. Better rush raiders. I'm not. I don't think so at all so just of course you'd never know there's so. Many variables are still things that need to happen right like touched on. There's the injury situation. There's always a mark injury or two or three or four or five that affect the outcome of the nfl season in effect kind of nature. Some of these games but looking at the schedule yeah. I think this team the expectation should be competing for a playoff berth. Once again and i think the schedule plays into what they wanna do. No question about it and yeah that that was a pretty startling stat. of the twenty one teams that have given up twenty-nine more or more points per game Since since twenty since thousand and two only the raiders and the chicago bears got to five hundred. And if you look at the to both of those different situations while the writers had only fifteen takeaways the bears had twenty eight takeaways that season. So that helped them get to that. Eight hundred eight Otherwise is pretty impossible. If your if your defense is giving up that many points for you'd have a even close to a five hundred record Most of it was five eleven. There was no in sixteen there. Foreign you know three and thirteen and were pretty good. Quarterbacks deshaun watson went for and twelve. I think it was last year with texans on a team that ever that gave up twenty nine points per game Matthew stafford was five and eleven last year on a team that gave up. Twenty-nine points per game drew. Brees was seventy nine One year. I think it was two thousand fifteen when his what is defense gave up. Twenty-nine points per game so it just old shows you how difficult it is to overcome a defense. That's given up that many points and honestly how impressive it was. That the raiders were able to get to eight nate largely because their car on the offense were that good so and it also lastly shows you that if the writers had any sort of a defense last year things would have been a whole lot different. And that's what. I think over there in henderson at their practice facility. They're counting on gus bradley. They're counting on cory littleton. In the newcomers janaka gakugei. The youngsters getting better. They're counting on that defense. Taking a step forward and if they do Ten and seven eleven and six is absolutely without question within the raiders reached. Sam yang. I'm with you. i don't. I don't think that's i don't think it's unrealistic Like you said given the addition of guys bradley really. We saw so far in the first the first couple months offseason. We saw that the raiders. Right we saw what it was on in free agency we saw. It was on in the draft right. They know that this offense is good enough west player playoff-caliber last year. You re tool the offense in line. A little bit. But with tom cable doing his thing. For as long as you've been doing it you figure that that unit is going to be solid regardless of the loss of gauge action iranian They have a plan there with alex. Leatherwood with andrea james. They have a plan in place. I think that unit is going to be solid but other than that offensively you have one of the best players all football in their waller like you said every rugs and bryan edwards You can't be a little bit more productive. John brown can stretch the field. I'm not sure he's going to produce the white house aguilar. Did aguilar was awesome in. Twenty twenty headstones big payday with the new england patriots but josh job rows deep threat since he stepping leading twenty four thousand fifteen. He's been one of the better. Threats in the league was awesome with low a couple of years ago. One thousand yard season so the the offense i think for sure is going to be pretty good Again like you said to backs josh. Jacobs kenyan drake introduce different. Things can keep jacobs a little bit more fresh and then and then defensively. I think the bradley the addition of rally. What he wants to do is philosophy and then kind of tailoring your roster to fit that Adding up the a pass rush getting players that fit his cover three scheme and his ability to develop talent that we talked about ad. Nauseam throughout the correspond. podcasts These last couple of months. I think huge to so with all those components i mean. Yeah the expectations should be to compete for playoff berth. No question about it. And i don't think that's unrealistic at all. I think the like we've talked about what the schedule there's gonna be some tough games. There's going to be some some some hostile environments that they're going to go play in but you would think that elision stadium is going to be an equally hostile environment for opposing teams to. We're gonna find out. I think probably pretty early on just how much of a home field advantage that region stadium can provide. And that's what. I'm super excited about with with scheduled releases is just kind of seeing where the fans are gonna be able to showcase their stuff flexor stuff on a national audience and what that's going to look without question and by this time next week we will know what that schedule looks like. We'll have a better idea of who wear win. What time of. The raiders are playing. And we'll absolutely talk about that and then also talk about Kind of moving forward as the raiders. Continue this their off-season program Kind of a another weird offseason program. We don't know How many players are actually get out of field when they're allowed to do that Later this month basically next week when the onfield portion of ota's start How many players are gonna show up. How many players are going to stick to that boycott Being pushed by the nfl players association. With you know that the rookies Have gotten into our will. Be in town This week to try to to kind of fall in line on the offseason program. Most of the rookies. That drafted rookies. Anyway were not at the quote unquote rookie minicamp over the weekend. That was more reserved for undrafted free agents trial basis players and some some very very young players that are in the in the raiders program That are trying to To kind of make their mark up at the rockies Getting acclimated and we'll we'll talk about that next week and hopefully have a better idea maybe of what the onfield. Ota's are going to are going to look like but until then thanks to all the listeners. We really appreciate the support. The numbers reflect your interest. He was tied with great Alabama running back Derrick Henry. 28 all rushing by the way 2015 when he won the Heisman Trophy. Alabama, the only team in the history of college football with a 20 touchdown scorer rushing and receiving in the same season for Smith 20. Plus now receiving touchdowns. It's remarkable how many different ways this Alabama offense can Puts you in conflict a point they run the football the way they throw into their running backs out of the backfield. Then, of course, the Heisman Trophy winner. Basically, nobody could cover him, at least not with the way he's running around tonight. Harris did not have a receiving touchdown in the regular season, and he had three nd SEC title game there. Six point win against Florida now has five for the year end over end kick off. I will record from right to left this over the head of tomorrow in the car, and it's another touch back. Here comes Ohio State and the pressure on them, Greg to pretty much match the scores because it doesn't look like they're going to stop Alabama very often tonight. Not just that, but also now Take a little bit of pressure off their defense. Alabama now has 30 snaps offensively, They're three drives not including the fumble. Dr obviously, but they have been remarkably productive. With the exception of that one blemish the fumble by Mack Jones. So to give their defense a little rest, the Buckeyes need to put one together. And you put the ball right in the middle of the field at 25 1st down out of the gun, Justin Field, hands it off. Straight ahead. And master team stopped up after a short game look like they'll give him forward progress to the 28. Dylan Moses, inside linebacker back from a knee injury cost him all of last year. And Christian bar more made the tackle box line up quickly. 2nd 78 38 to go first half 21 14, Alabama leading Teague running back on the left hip. Both fields goes out of the gun. Five man rushed Now He pulls it down runs to the left has a first down and much more across the 40 50, and now he runs out of bounds. Far sideline is Josh job was about to tackle him, and clearly, Justin Fields doesn't want to take any more hits. On those ribs. But that's a big run for 28 yards in the first down for Ohio State, any line up quickly again from the band of 44 hand off out of the team takes a couple of tackles, running down the first sideline inside of 20 and shoved out by Jordan battle at the hard to tell from work all the way at the other end of the field looks like the five yard line. But another big run 29 yards from master team. Noah's well short of the five yard line about 100 yards away in the opposite ends only market at the 15 yard line. Just a really good job in the last two snaps on the offensive line of Ohio State, Justin Field, seeing man covers, taking himself a great job on the left side of the old line. First in 10 out of a gun again and hand off the team running off right guard. Alabama's down for three our game in the middle of the field. Alabama's offensive line one. Joe More Ward is the best in the country, but Ohio State's is terrific as well. Josh Meyers first team All Big 10 Center, one of three finalists for the Winning team trophy. Ryan Davison. All American, right guard, left, tackle. Fair Munford. First team All Conference second and seven. Alabama crowding the line is finished two receivers to each side on now. Team moves from left to the right. Yep, both fields out of the gun. We're doing a Titan rocket in motion from the left him off the team, and he dropped the lost time Rumble. Laughter never got close to the corner Buried behind the line of spinach by Chris Allen. Huge play there by Chris Allen to knowing that Ohio State's field goal situation with true freshman is very much up in the air, so a huge negative play. They're coming off. The left edge by Alan dropped Teague on the sweet far side pressure from film Mathis as well to help pull that up. So it's third down and 11 there on the 16 yard line on the left, has received a bunch right lobby, singled up to the left one on one on Josh George, short side of the field play clock running. Down. Well, it's gonna be a time of used by Ryan Day Time out called by Ohio State 6 17 to go in the first half Alabama leading 21 to 14 and a third down 11 coming up for Justin Fields. In Ohio State. Back to the studio is Mark Caster Sugar. All right, Sean. Thanks a lot. Trevor Managed with me in studio Is Ohio State looks to score and even this game, but one of the big story lines of.

"Yeah, got ahead of me. All right. We saw what happened to Trevor Laurence against Ohio State and the college football playoff semifinal and Justin Fields as much as I was doubting his accurate in after the Big 10 championship game. Was unreal. Now, Maybe that was just some liabilities and clips in secondary that just kind of got glossed over. Even though the same thing happened to that sex secondary last year gets ls you This could be a colossal shootout because we know Alabama Canal score anybody on it looks like if Justin Fields is healthy, which is a big question mark that they can score some points as well. How do you see this national championship game playing out? You know one of his worst games against Northwestern with 100 yards or so and then they explode with the six touchdowns against Clinton. So I think the secondaries there definitely could be challenged. Album has trouble against Ole Miss. They give up 46. I think it wasn't in Florida, 46 or 48. So they, you know, I thought all year that the defense is getting better. But then, when I reviewed the information with the quarterbacks they played Old Mr Florida. We're not very good, and it turned out even practicing against all those great players at Alabama did help him now They're tackling better communicating better because they had four or five people in the secondary that we're young. Besides, Patrick's retained the second and Josh job, but I think it's a shootout. I think it's in the thirties and maybe the last team to hold the football. I would say that if you're trying to stop the receivers for Alabama and the receivers, rowhouse state Maybe you look at those tight ends like a Giulio Billingsley frowns from Alabama's from Chicago and you look the Titan who had a fantastic game. Jeremy Rocker from New York Matter of fact, so maybe those tight ends are big factors in this came AP You think that Nick is doing this in in five years, five years from now on, that's saving, still coaching Alabama? Yeah, That's what I think. About five years. You know, he's 69 years young on And you know, he still plays the basketball during lunchtime because he really pretty good shooter. Yes, thank you. That's what She's she's. I think she's the boss. When you you know, evaluate that relationship, and yeah, I don't know if she don't like being home all the time. Like the paycheck much. Hey, yeah. Do you imagine him? Because this This was floated a couple years ago. I believe About the Texas job or something like that. You think he would get an itch to go take on another challenge anywhere else or where his last job be as the Crimson Tide head coach? I have a funny story for you. I was with Al Guido. He's the president of the 40 Niners. He asked me one time. They were, um there in Atlanta to see how it was like the host the national championship because it went to Santa Claire. We asked about next David coaching the 40 Niners, said Al. I said Mrs Savings if she went to California should be a nice woman from California. But in Alabama, she's the Queen of Alabama. Yeah, means no. He's good. Different means No. He's gonna be in Alabama and retired Alabama that she really does run the show, huh? You're not just kidding around. I'm not a very nice woman. Hysteria is, he calls her She's always at the game, but she's very vocal and her, let's say review of her husband's coaching. Yeah, all the time Favorite AP The cool thing this year. We mean they moved the box the press box in the broadcast booth for the For the radio broadcast where I do it, it was usually outside On the other on the West side, Whatever whatever side that was now they've moved. It indoor s Oh, my box that I went to him with the three games this year and called three games for compass media. I was in the box right next to Mrs. Save it. So her boxes right next to ours, So we saw her throughout the game. Yes, she is. She's in. She was really engaged. It's also one game that she didn't go to ours. He was the one that Nick tested positive for the coronavirus. Sure is very much of it. Well, listen AP. I love the energy. I love the fact that revealed your your order. 123 in the Heisman. Great great insight into the program. You're obviously is connected. Is anybody down there and out there? Could have any other show, Buddy, take it spoke very highly of you. And I could see why a nice conversation. Really appreciate. Thank you so much and happy. New Year's All the good folks in Alabama from L. A lower Alabama. Thank you be nice. Sometimes I'm envious of that kind of existence. You know what that would just be nice, like, instead of being stuck in Jersey and deal with the nettle. It sounds like you love. But you know what I mean? I've told you many times. You've got to get down on the game in Tuscaloosa. Brian told you many times to bring me back a shirt from the games that you've done. How could you come down and you get yourself? Here's the thing, though, Petey. It is the it is the greatest like environment to just chill and they always wins. I mean, with all the games, and there's never any stress in the fourth quarter, they always win. So everybody's like happy on, you leave there, and it's just like it's like a It's just amazing, but I'd love to know I don't break here. I'd love to know from An objective voice like not a diehard Bama fan, Not even somebody necessarily connected with the SEC. But just somebody who has a real, you know fervor for stadiums and the ambience and tail gates like I And I know it's subjective anyway. But I would love to know, like from people who have been to the great stadiums like what is the best cause I've never been a battle, but I've been to Michigan Stadium. I've been to the horse you into the big house. I have not been to the horseshoe been to a few packs Well, venues army, but they don't have been dip in Happy Valley. I went there with white out last couple years ago, which was insane. I remember when you did that. Yeah. I mean, I mean his Bama. I helpless you at night. That's what that's the general consensus. Ls you at night? His number one. I haven't got to do that one. For whatever reason I got skipped on the on the on the target. No, on the ls you gave last l a U L s U Alabama two years ago when they were down there, and I had to bring that up with Michelle Didn't think you were good enough. What? They said No. Or maybe they didn't. They didn't just didn't have the game. I have not here, but you're right. You know, I think why Alabama and Ellis, you always get the tick The check. It's because the weather is always great know that even even in November or whatever, late October, it's gorgeous. Yeah, it's easy to go to. Where that white how game I went to. It was freezing. Absolutely. We'll stay with the horse. You say what Michigan Stadium yet? No, no doubt same and most of the continent, the big 10. Yeah, I mean, I haven't heard much about the food game down Obama. Oh, it's not saying it's not good, but I haven't get it. But it's not. It's not healthy. It's not revere. Maybe maybe I'm just the great you know the great praise. But you're saying Think it's more about like the game and have like there are certain places known for food is what I'm saying. I think Alabama's tailgate is not necessarily one of a butt. Be wrong. All right, let's get the update. Act has tailgated absolutely nowhere because he's never had a drink in his life Right act. Actually have had a drink in my life. I haven't had too many. And I did I have tell get it. Yeah, well, tell us where I mean Super Bowl 23 about college. I've never actually.
