We've done a lot of business together here filling in on the Prager show, and it's always a joy since this is our last conversation together. During the during the remaining dwindling days of the trump era. That's probably something we can talk about. As we take stock of these four years that we've all been through love to hear from you. You know the telephone number 18 Prager, 77618 Prager 776 Let me give you a little thumbnail of some of the things I'm going to ask you about. We stand here at the brink of an inauguration, which is festooned with what 25,000. National Guard troops to some degree a slice the pie for me. There are two reactions to thousands upon thousands. Of troops adorn not adorning taking up their positions in Washington. May God bless every single one of those men and women in uniform. But here's the thing. That is either Hey. Proper vigilance in view of the fact that Hey, we did just have some riots. Or be it is political theater designed to make America think. Oh, my God in heaven. This is what we need to protect ourselves from crazy. Violent Trump stirs. Now. I don't think that's binary. I think it may be some of both. And I don't know exactly how I'd slice the pie of I've all I've often said in terms of preparedness for anything That I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it. And how do you like to be the official who understaffed. You know the troops for the inauguration? And then have another riot. Break out. That would not be a good luck. But you know what? I have zero expectation of another riot breaking out just as I and you and everybody else. At zero expectation of a riot breaking out on January 6th Yet here's where we Are. We had Ryan on January 6th so suddenly retroactively President Trump, who spoke that morning he incited the riot. Have some idiot says that on the street, I'm prepared not to care. But when the Congress of the United States floats and impeachment based on that, Are you kidding me? And sadly, I'm not getting Cause that's where we are. And it's just centers like Ted Cruz and Josh Holly, that famous now infamous photograph of Josh Holly walking up on Capitol Hill, seeing perhaps a smattering of people they're gathered to support him, and Cruz and other brave Republicans who stepped into T cast some question. About this tainted election. Into perhaps opposed the acceptance of electors from some states where the constitution had been so savaged with laws had been so sidelined. That's what they were doing. It was constitutional through the system thoroughly lawful, everyone free to agree with it or disagree with it as they please. But now retroactively since we wound up having rioting that day. Cruise and Holly being called on to resign. All of this is stuff and nonsense is sound and fury signifying nothing, as is the impeachment, but you know, silly me. There may be impeachments in my life, and now we may have one every few years. I don't know that I agree with or disagree with, But this one is a stain. It's a stain on the Constitution. It's a stain on our history. It is a stupid juvenile vendetta moment born of a toddler tantrum of people who hate Trump. And and it's not just Democrats. Because 10 Republicans Liz Cheney, for crying out loud, who has done much that I've admired? Fred Upton in Michigan, Adam Kinzinger in Illinois and seven other backbenchers. Decided that the only way to telegraph their revulsion about the riots is this where we are now that in order to make sure that everybody knows that you are sufficiently repelled by the riots. Is to vote for impeachment of the president and and to invent out of whole cloth, the notion that he incited them, which is simply factually. Incorrect. It is a lie. I am. Universally repelled by the riots. Am Holy Condemning those who took part. You know what else? I'm repelled by. Tainted election. States changing the rules in midstream of sacrificing the Constitution and proper election procedure on a phony altar of covert urgency. You know that kind of repels me too. So there's a lot to be worked up about. But this notion that you you have to be on board for it for falsely accusing the president of incitement. In order to lay down some bonified of having been sufficiently critical of the riots. Good grief. Is that where we are And sadly. Trump's second impeachment: Timeline of events by Julia Manchester
"Manchester Political reporter at the Hill. Thanks for joining us, Julia Thanks so much for having me. The House has impeached President Donald Trump for a second time. He is now the only president to be impeached twice the article of Impeachment was incitement of insurrection. Obviously we know what happened on January 6th when these pro Trump supporting mob stormed the capital, and everybody had to take cover. You know, it was just a crazy scene this past the house. 2 30 to toe 1 97 with 10 Republicans voting against the president. Julia tell us about, you know everything that led up to this moment. It's been a crazy seven days in Washington and really across the country. You know, it's interesting. You know, the insurrection of the capital happened seven days ago. And then seven days from now, a week from now, President elect Joe Biden will be sworn in as the 46, president of the United States. So what happening But in leading up to impeachment, obviously what sparked? This was the insurrection. We saw that President Trump Help that rally in Washington, D C, telling the attendees of his rally to go up to the capital to voice their displeasure with the election results, and many interpreted his remarks as incitement, and it would appear that he did in sight this group of rioters to go to the capital now, Obviously, there were thousands of people to attend President Trump's rally, which was to essentially protest the electoral college results. And then we saw that you know some of the People. Large number of them did stormed the capital when they stormed the capital. It was during the certification of the electoral college vote had senators Josh Holly and some there's had crews essentially proposing challenge the electoral college results in states like Pennsylvania. So we saw that there was essentially ally going around that there was this white Red voter fraud in the 2020 election. So during the certification process, the protestors stormed the capital, putting the lives of the vice president of the United States at risk of the speaker of the House of Thine eyes. Take that risk as well as lawmakers in the chamber at that moment, so we obviously know that five people were killed as a result of these riots, so it was a very deadly insurrection. Now we've heard obviously a lot of these. Writers have been charged. They have been apprehended by law enforcement. But today was President Trump's term in the spotlight, and he was impeached for the second time. It wasn't a surprise. We knew that Democrats would have the votes. But what's getting a lot of attention is the fact that Republicans voted to impeach him and including Congresswoman Liz Cheney, who is part of the GOP leadership in the House. Yeah, I mean, it's

So the day after the election, Missouri Senator Josh Holly, a rising star of conservative populism, declared Republicans in Washington are going to have a very hard time processing this, but the future is clear. But continuing to embrace Trumpism goes against the goal, says Bloomberg Opinion columnist Michael Strain, director of economic policy Studies at the American Enterprise Institute. And the author of The American Dream is not Dead. But Populism could kill it. And he's here to tell us why. Pills have Republican senators Josh Holly and Marco Rubio are sort of interpreting the election results. Well, I think that there is, I think that they are taking away from Theo the surprising strength of of the president, uh, on the other Republican party generally. As evidence that that the president economic policy were successful, and, um, that they should, you know, kind of rebrand the Republican Party as the party of workers on day. That's a sentiment that both Senator Holly and Senator Rubio expressed that they after the election that the election results Pointed the way to the future and in the future is with the Republican Party is a zoo party of walkers. President Trump often spouted populist theories and pro worker rhetoric. But did he follow through on any of that? Was there anything to back that up? In my view, the president actual accomplishment for the working class are in and really the president. The president's effort don't even seem to have been its focus wasn't really on work that rhetorically itwas You know, I think the major legislative accomplishments of the trump years was the 2017 tax cuts. I'm of the view that that is gonna increase Workerswages. I bet indirectly on the left. You take it well. The problem is that the effects of that tax hasn't been really held back by the trade war. With China and trade hostilities with other nations, and that conflict in the room of international trade has held back investment by businesses which has reduced that spending put downward pressure on productivity. Put downward pressure on workers. Ladies, the president really undone. Good that he tried to do with the corporate tax cut with his trade wars. Even if you look at manufacturing specifically, you know, it's common to hear people argue, you know? Yes, the trade war You know a little bit bad for the economy overall, but it'll do a lot of good for being factory workers. The evidence suggests that Manufacturing employment actually was reduced by the trade war. So even even manufacturing workers haven't benefited from both. And then when you add on the failures that Advanced healthcare security for workers and failure to reduce drug crisis for workers. You know you really You really don't see much that the president or his supporters can point to, in terms of a changeable things they've done to help workers. Senator Hawley and Senator Rubio and many other senators are obviously looking to try to solidify Trump's base behind them. But does it seem as if it's not so much a base because of populist theories, but more because of Personality. They're following Trump because of his personality. Well, I think they have. I think they have an opportunity to actually put some meat on the bones. Here s O if they if they want to turn their whole party into a pro worker party, I think that would be That would be great. And then the Rubio you know, particularly several years ago, had some really good ideas to help workers if they were to move in that direction. I think that would be a departure from From President Trump's policies. It wouldn't be a continuation of the policy on that, I think is is the tree distinction? Secondly, what you bring up is really important. You know what? What will Republican politicians take away from? President success, you know? Well, well, they try toe to mimic his aesthetic. Will they try to, you know, kind of mimic the rhetoric. You know, my hope, of course, is that is that that isn't what we're in for from from the Republican Party. I hope that they try to come up with some Creative solutions to address today's problems and try and implement them again. Recognizing that that wouldn't be a continuation of President Trump's four years, it will be a departure from it. Michael, Thanks so much. Those lawmakers joined Missouri Senator Josh Holly, who was the first to announce his intentions to object to the state tallies during the upcoming joint session of Congress. In their statement announcing their intentions today, those 11 lawmakers said in part quote Congress should immediately appoint an electoral commission to conduct an emergency 10 Day audit of the election results in the disputed states. Senators went on to say they quote intend to vote to reject the electors from disputed states. Until that emergency 10 Day audit is completed. Senator Josh Hawley to contest electoral college results, forcing vote in the Senate
"Bunch of members of the house from House Republicans had suggested that they will be objecting to the official. Electoral college vote tally that takes place in Congress on January 6th. That is when Mike Pence will preside over the activities of the Congress and count these electoral college votes. Throughout history in America. It's been mostly a routine affair, with some exceptions along the way a specially this century. I'll get into that in a moment. But Josh Holly became the first United States senator yesterday to indicate that he would also object to the Electoral College certification process. On January 6. Here's what he said in his statement. Well, First of all, I don't recall hearing the Democrats make any such claims. Hold tight on that. That is him on Fox News last night, and I just I just want to read the statement that that Holly released, he said, following both the 2004 and 2016 elections. Democrats in Congress objected during the certification of electoral votes in order to raise concerns about election integrity. They were praised by Democratic leadership and the media when they did, and they were entitled to do so. But now those of us concerned about the integrity of this election are entitled Do the same. Holly says he can't vote to certify the electoral college results on January 6 without raising the fact that some states particularly Pennsylvania, failed to follow their own state election laws, and I cannot vote to certify without pointing out the unprecedented effort of mega corporations, including Facebook and Twitter. Interfere in this election in support of Joe Biden. At the very least, Congress should investigate allegations of voter fraud and adopt measures to secure the integrity of our elections. But Congress has so far failed to act and that's why Josh Holly says he will be issuing his objection. In January. 6 now Beverly. What makes this important is you need both a senator and a member of the house to do that, in order to force both both houses to take a break from that joint session and head back to their separate houses and have two hours of sustained debate over whether or not honor the objection. That means the house and the Senate will consider this objection. Because they got the requisite one senator and one member of the House to object. It doesn't mean it goes any further than that. And we know it won't because Nancy plus that controls the house.

This is This is a pretty big deal. He guaranteed that both chambers will now be forced to at least debate the results of Pennsylvania's election. Maybe other states whether or not to accept Bynes victory, And this is important because if this had just been an issue raised by the House of Representatives, it probably wouldn't have gotten a lot of play. But now that both chambers are into this into the fight, want to see the debate. That looks like what will be on the schedule on January. 6 now a guy who never Gives up the fight is the author of a new piece out right now in the Spectator, the American Spectator. The title of it caught my attention and said the president should stay the course. So this is an answer to the New York Post. Headlines on the cover of their newspapers few days ago that President Trump should give it up that he's ruining things in Georgia and that he should just exit stage right and that he should. Always kind of quietly. Well, our friend Jeffrey Lord, who you know from CNN. He is a prolific writer. He worked in the Reagan White House. He decided no President Trump meets to fight back and he wrote a piece about it Right now. He joins us on America first. Jeffrey Lord, follow him at real Jeffrey, Lord. And, of course, always the Jeffrey Lord Calm is a place for all of his articles. Welcome to America, First of Happy New Year. Well, happy New Year to you, Jen. And thanks for having me and thanks seven. Giving my best wishes I will. Absolutely. And you know what? At some point when I make it to the East Coast we will all make. We'll all get together. How about that when we can actually see each other in person? I think that is a great idea. Virtual only goes so far. Exactly. I know I'm done with zoom calls, which, by the way, is apparently one of the most popular new words of the year. Zoom. We'll talk about that later in the program, But Jeffrey Lord, I was so just heartened to see the New York Post, which seems to be one of the few Sources of reason in the news media coming out and saying it urging President Trump Tonto back down. And for multiple reasons, but because there are some real issues of voter fraud, it is the president's job to not just fight for his political longevity. But to fight for the American people in the 70 million Plus Americans who are questioning the results of this election and for the New York Post to come out and join the other media outlets and just Sort of. I don't know, brushing all of that under the rug. It made me I didn't love it. I felt like gosh, we're really losing the fight here. But then I was looking around on social media and I saw your piece. The president should stay the course. And it's available right now. Spectator dot orc and it was written by you. Were you feeling the same way I was. Is that why you wrote this piece? Yes, exactly. Yeah, I could tell you just is a a personal aside. I'm out here on Eastern Long Island for the holidays. Mark. My mother and father grew up out here. So I have all of my extended family here. So this is where I come for Christmas every year, So that means when I show up at the breakfast table, the New York Post is physically on the table. I love that I still love to read the physical newspaper, too. Yes, I saw it. And I thought to myself. Oh, my God. You know, I just I could not believe it. So I read it And I thought, Well, this deserves an answer which I promptly sat down and Good virtual style and sent into the spectator. But I just think You know a couple of things number one just in general. This is one of the reasons why Donald Trump is where he is because he fights and other Republicans do not. That's right. Better problem for the Republican Party for Ages and ages and ages and I'm so glad to see him do it. But secondly There are millions of Americans who really believe I'm one of them that this election was stolen from Donald Trump and Pennsylvania is mentioned here. I'm from Pennsylvania. I came up through the Pennsylvania political system on the Republican side. I can tell you I have never seen the response to a candidate. But I saw two Donald Trump when I went to these rallies in Pennsylvania, and I went to three of them right before the election. One I did not get to was in western Pennsylvania in a more world section of Pennsylvania Butler candidate They had Jen 57,000 people show up for it..
Perdue, Loeffler say they will support $2,000 COVID-19 stimulus payment

Senators Kelly, left Lord David Perdue, Marco Rubio and Josh Holly left. Lauren Purdue are facing a tough reelection battle next weekend. "You our new senator from Missouri, Josh Holly. This guy is the real deal. I remember Josh. Holy I didn't I introduce President Trump. But the last rally Of the 2018 midterms. It was in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, My my hometown. And Josh Holly was there since it was in Missouri, and he got some speaking time at it. He's got a hell of a voice. Those of us in the voice business we say got really, really great set of pipes. But Josh Holly, he is all over these tech guys, and there is testimony going on. Today. Zucker Burg. And what's his name? The Rasputin looking guy, Jack Dorsey. From Twitter, and they're all up there testifying and it's all such a joke. Uh, Catherine. I will watching some congressional testimony Senate testimony yesterday or or maybe we were watching some senators who were getting ready for this today. And they were talking about how we're not gonna let these guys get away. Whatever I want, and I said, you know, they they say this before the hearing and at the hearing, nothing happens and they tell us that they're going to get to the bottom of what happened to Russia. Probably never get to the bottom of it. They just pontificate. They just throw us a bunch of promises. But when it comes down time to peddle his the metal, the rubber hits the road. Nothing ever happens. Nothing ever changes. It might be different with Josh Holy someday. Because he was he really? He had Zucker Burg kind of sputtering and fuming in there today. Under oath. Under questioning by Josh HOLY of Missouri. Zuckerberg admits that Facebook does have tools. Track its users across the Internet across platforms across accounts without user knowledge, he asked, specifically, do you have the ability to coordinate? He was asked about their censorship, essentially, do you He's asking Sucker bird. You have the ability to coordinate. With Twitter. And with Instagram, you have the ability to coordinate and Zuckerberg A paused And said, Senator, Um I don't want to be very, very, very, very, very clear about this. We do. We do have the ability to coordinate. Uh, When it comes to matters of security. Like what? Well, like terrorism on national security. We haven't even any coordinates again. Well, what? Zuckerberg Just admit it. He admitted they have the ability to coordinate period if they can coordinate with Twitter if they conjoined Twitter in figure out who to censor. If Zuckerberg and Dorsey decide they want to censor somebody, they can do it and they can coordinate it. Because if they can do this with terrorism, they could do it with anybody. So under oath. Josh Holy got. Zuckerberg do admit that Facebook Zuckerberg to admit that Facebook does have tools to track its users across the Internet across platforms. Across accounts. All without User knowledge. Polices. I asked how many times is tools been used domestically against Americans and Zucker? Burg won't say. A Facebook whistleblower tells me it's called Centra. This cross platform tool thing they've got. Dr Berger said he couldn't recall the name is only the company's CEO. After all, There's a lot of people who work there. At any rate that up. I watch this in my mouth I love is a stunted. Zuckerberg admitted this. He tried to limit its impact was going really, really. You want to do this during during times of national security? "And the other thing is I, I was extremely weary of the lion. Ization of Silicon Valley, and it was very happy to see the HBO show, Silicon Valley, sorta come along and poke holes in the in, in the, you know, the this veneer of their superhero, their superhero, image and for a long time, it seemed like the only billionaires that progressive love progressives love the tech billionaires, but I'm also leery. Now of the extraordinary swing towards what I think, is thought Lewis, demonization, because I think the fact of the Matt. There is while there are some people in Silicon Valley who have been sort of era, that's in infiltrate ill the caricature of the sort of the air again. Technocrat there's an awful lot of people who are well, meaning who kind of found out that they had a tiger by the tail and that this these platforms that they thought in believed genuinely we're going to exist and do one thing in society. They're finding out doing another thing in society and quite frankly, they don't know what to do about it themselves. And so I think that there is a awful lot of demonization and caricaturisation going on these in in, I, I, I'm glad we've sort of punctured, the superhero image, the week ought to be careful that we don't then turn them into some sort of version of the robber barons of the late nineteenth early twentieth century when a lot of these people are people who are well, intentioned and trying hard to figure this out and so but bottom. Line is I also think we cannot overlook the power of the market, we cannot assume that these corporations are going to maintain dominance win. There is consumer debt. Dissatisfaction wide-scale, widespread consumer disatisfaction that exists today when there's consumer dissatisfaction, there are other entrepreneurs who say market opportunity. So exit question to you, m b at this juncture, your guess, is which of these Republican senators represent the future of GOP politics. Ten crews, Josh Holly, Lindsey Graham, rand Paul then says. Josh Holly, but it'll be Marco Rubio, saying his lines. Saying. I think probably results but I, I wish I wish I should have included. Rubio, so Rubio's and option David. I'm going to be an optimist and I'm going to say been says, oh, I should I have should done. have done it. So wrong in be you're so wrong. I'm going to say Josh Holly with eighty percent certainty that I'm wrong. But I, I do take Michael's point that he is sort of the first among prominence Republican officeholders lease it probably prominent senators who represents, like a post rise of Trump. A Republican party doesn't bear the scars of all the fights during Trump's rise and is trying to think through in a non Trumpy and way what we should learn from Trump, which I think is should be very important project on the right. So I'm going to say say it's Holly. But if you'd asked me this question anytime over the last thirty years about any Republican Senator, I'm sure I would have gotten a wrong said, Phil Gramm you know, in nineteen ninety five. Very I mean, I think one thing we're gonna learn from Trump, I think, is, it's great to run against Hillary Clinton in we may be overrating an awful lot of this populism. So as days. So just two quick exit questions. I u m b tree sommes resignation will clear the way for the Brexit that Britain truly deserves. "Brown. Josh, Holly Blackburn, get into the Senate, and it is very motivating. It's a it's have great members who really want to bust up these stablishment. So it really fits my personality. That's good. To keep doing this through two thousand twenty seven control. Yeah. Absolutely. Absolutely. And so what's on the horizon? That's a much tougher map for Republicans. It it is Republicans defending twenty one or twenty two seats to Democrats twelve but you've got Alabama Lamar Alexander's leaving in Tennessee. So there are a Republican pickup opportunities in states that are ripe for hardcore conservatives, and you look for people like MO Brooks, there's plenty of others in Alabama. But he ran last time and he was a good candidate president managed to knock him out. But and in in in Tennessee, I'm curious we're gonna swear in a guy today as congressman Mark green who could well step forward much like Tom cotton didn't Arkansas and take on that Senate race in twenty twenty and Tennessee, so we could see another Marsha Blackburn lake race. But I don't think the Democrats are going to be a successful recruiting as they were in two thousand eighteen Phil Bredesen's. Was about as good as they could do in quality of candidate. But you are right. It's a very different. Matt a how how influential was the president going around the country during these centers is he focused on the Senate. And so, you know, now in retrospect was good, you know. Do you like the seeing the president involved in wrapped up with these candidates? Is he helpful to them? And what should he do in two thousand twenty twenty twenty? I mean, his first focus as it must be is going to be as relaxed, right? And obviously he's gonna have a deep impact on all the Republicans were running. You know, it was interesting for until the closing part of the cycle. There were a lot of people in the mainstream media interest. See the leadership Republican Lee so-called leadership Firdaus surrender ship better at that. But you must you must get along. Great a cocktail parties. I don't really go. It's easier that way. Saved them all being uncomfortable. But Trump was a big help. You look look at Josh Holly, Mike Brown asked bike Brown. When he's on the air today, you'll you'll hear that bringing out a Trump base. Many of whom had not voted for years before two thousand sixteen was a big deal in these Senate races. And let's remember you already noted the map changes in two thousand twenty. But in two thousand eighteen there were ten Democrats defending in seats that Trump one that is an enormous number of crossover potential states and Republicans did very well. Even where people didn't win in this listening area. Attorney general Patrick Morrissey. Lost in a close race to Joe Manchin. Joe Manchin didn't break fifty and Morrissey did well as he did in his first race unseating in twenty year. Incumbent Matt Rosendahl in Montana tester didn't break fifty in surviving that race. So these guys, and of course, Marsha Blackburn. Woman did really really well. And it it it it shows that Trump's support, and he was in all these states a lot. Yes was valuable. Okay. So so real talk about the electorate what what lessons did you pull from two thousand eighteen when you look at the demographics of people who actually voted because you know, we're constantly told all sorts of things there's all all of us all of this analysis. Single women are offered Democrats. I mean, and you get basically breaking down all these lines who actually showed up to the polls did anybody surprise you. And what are what are the things that Republicans need to do better at well some of the house race outcomes? Were driven by the kind of schizoid leadership approach where they were preaching to their folks, you know, campaign on local issues in tip O'Neill gave that old famous advice. All politics is local that is advice for Democrats Republicans need to run national campaigns. That doesn't mean they need to subjugate their campaign to Paul Ryan. But it does mean they need to run a national females. You may have reading every house candidates. They need to understand how they make those issues effect. Area. Barbara comstock. Yeah. Comstock ran on local issues, she basically avoided national topics. But I think I think Barbara in that district was toast from the get-go the real mistake. There was the leadership spending so much money. They're when they could have helped meaningfully in five other districts with that money already knowing what was going to happen. And it never changed. The course of the race interesting. All right mortar, Ken could coming up right here on WFAN five twenty two..

It's a big if but if they're able to pull that off Mary wooded a three things you'll be watching. Well, if Democrats can take the house they are going to put the Trump administration under an intense microscope. The first thing I'm watching the investigations they are going. Demand to see President Trump's tax returns, and they're going to dig in to everything from conflicts of interest to questions about possible Russia collusion. Second thing to keep an eye on Robert Muller. Democrats are likely to take steps to try to protect the special counsel that third question impeachment. Democrats are treading very carefully. Here. Don't expect them to bring that up much. They wanna see what the special counsel has discovered before they make any day. We'll Robert Muller has.
