"Of the pure energy that the music, the player bring into the mound in the 9th inning, we haven't seen it before. What do you think? Yeah. And he's, you know, he could easily finish second in the Cy Young voting and get a ton of MVP votes. I mean, he could finish 6th in the MVP voting because of what he means now to the mets. They feel like that game is over when they bring him in. And buck brought him in in the 8th inning the other day and the game was over. So it's been a spectacular season. I love it when he comes in the game and I'll say it one more time buster. How does anyone get it off of that stuff? Anybody. It's ridiculous. All right, what do we make of the Padres? Who won the first game with the revamp lineup with Juan Soto with Brandon drury and they basically haven't been able to win since and they're not scoring runs. What do we make of it? It's confusing. They lost four straight games by four or more runs, which is pretty hard to do if you think about it. They've been shut out now back to back games for the first time since 2017. I am not going to panic about this if I'm a padre fan, even though I can tell you there's widespread panic going on already. They're going to get to teach junior back. They're going to have a really good offensive team. They can really pitch, including out of the bullpen and they're going to make the playoffs. However, the braves are better than the Padres are. The mets are much better than the Padres are right now. And the Dodgers are way better than the Padres are right now. So the moves they made, I thought, were great and necessary because the Dodgers are going to be great for years to come. The only way the Padres could compete with them was to do something dramatic and they did more than one dramatic thing. So don't tell me they made a mistake here. This is baseball. This is not like acquiring Steph Curry and Kevin Durant. They touch the ball on every possession. It takes time for baseball players to get going. I promise you, at some point in the next two months, we're going to go, wow, that padre offense is just as good as we thought it would be. It just hasn't happened yet. That's the beauty of baseball. So for the record, Tim declared that they're going to make the playoffs. I just want to point out this kind of reminds me of when I declared the national league east race over when the mets had a ten and a half game lead and then the braves cut it to a half game. Like you get your ebbs and flows at the moment, the Padres are sitting 6 in the national league standings. They are a let's see here. What a game ahead of the brewers at this point. So they're kind of clinging to it, but you're confident that they're going to get in. Yeah, and this is the same guy who has pointed out last year the pottery has had the best record in baseball after 50 games and not only didn't make the playoffs, they didn't even finish above 500. I'm telling you, though, the difference is Juan Soto, Josh bell, Josh hader, and made more than anything. Bob Melvin's in charge of that team. Do you really think that bob Melvin is going to allow a team with that kind of talent to fold down the stretch like they did last year? I'm not buying it. Sorry. All right. There is one massive wild card. I didn't think you'll agree with me on this. Some major X Factor and that is fernande tatis junior when he comes back. Through the years, when hitters come back from wrist injuries, you don't get consistent results. You just never know until they actually get into games. Correct? Correct. And you're right, buster. And again, I'm going back on what I said, 5 seconds ago, but if he's not, if he's not right when he comes back, then everything changes again. I mean, what we're basing all this on is Soto Machado and Josh bell hitting one, two, three, four, with others, including Jake cronenworth following. But if tatis comes back and he can't play shortstop or they have to put him in center field or most important, he doesn't hit, then the whole equation changes again. And I agree with you, I think the potters make the playoffs. I think it does take some time. I think soda will settle in and they'll start to score runs. That kid is so impressive. You know, he's 23 years old and I can call him a kid because I'm a lot older than that Tim, but just being around him over the weekend before we had Dodgers and Padres and then being reminded of his approach at the plate when he played that night and to hear the backstories on sort of how he's ingratiated himself with the team, you know, initially they put him in the two hole, then he moved to the three hole and then Josh bell basically talked to him and said, look, you know, this lineup will be better. You'll get more protection if you hitting the two hole. And so that's where he is. I love listening to him on the mic, tell me about Juan Soto through your eyes as someone had been around players for a lot of years. Well, again, I live in the D.C. area, so I used to go to the nationals games all the time and I was always just amazed at how mature he was at 19 years old playing in the big leagues. Mark Reynolds, one of our favorite people, once looked at me and this is, you know, for four years ago and he goes, I can't believe the plate discipline this guy has at 19. He goes, I've never won for one day. Had that kind of plate discipline in my life. And I'm 34 years old. He said, this guy's 19. He said, I've never seen a kid who understands and commands the strike zone like he does at this age, and of course he's still got it. Buster he's walked 469 times in his career and he's 23 years old.

Cubs rally against Brewers' bullpen, win 2-1 at Milwaukee
"Twice in the series the cubs were able to get the brewer reliever Josh hader one of the best closers in baseball PJ Higgins delivered a two out RBI single off hater to snap a tie game at the top of the 9th inning and give the cubs a two to one win Cubs starting pitcher Adrian Sampson says the theme is confidence in the backup catcher Higgins that he'll deliver in the big moments A lot of people in the Clubhouse trust the guy and he's been doing a steak so it's getting it off the hater and the 9th inning is a rare thing And then putting us ahead is very impressive Earlier in the series the cubs had tied a game in the 9th inning against hater who leads baseball and saves check Freeman

"All are more recognizable, at least in their team's markets than veering. But fearless agent is friendly with an executive at car shield, which is based in St. Louis hometown, that was the initial connection. It was a good opportunity for him to get his face out there, his agent says, and I have to tell you for his first time doing it, he was really darn impressive. In late March, on a day off in spring training, veering made the 45 mile drive from the Phillies complex and clear water to State College of Florida's campus in Bradenton for the shoot. It lasted a little more than an hour, he thinks he did about 20 takes taking swings both with his bat and as a thespian by reeling off lines packed with baseball jargon. So he says I'm not an actor. We filmed it, and yeah, now it's on TV. It's pretty funny. The interesting thing is that veering said, I know a thing or two about game winning hits, which at that point in his career, I don't think he had one. He has since had what he had a big one off of Josh hader, so maybe he didn't know a thing or two, but why have him say that? Why not him know something about good defense? I don't know. It just all of it is kind of confusing. And apparently if you're from St. Louis and you can call it car shield executive, you too can have a car shield ad. Wow. And they had to have done two shoots, right? 'cause they have teams. Like a Ford end in Arizona. Like the Dodgers don't train in Florida anymore as we've learned. Yeah. And this is not the end of their sponsorships and even their baseball sponsorships. So they must be just blowing their marketing budget on baseball. There is actually a collegiate league that is sponsored by car shield the car shield collegiate league. It's based at car shield park in O'Fallon, Missouri. What? It was formed in 2020. So yeah, there is a whole league called the car show collegiate league. They play at car shield field. And it's not that they only have baseball pitch people. They also have another strange assortment of celebrities, like if you go to their website, they say, we are becoming a household name. And I guess we're doing our part on this podcast. If you thought car shield sounded familiar, you're probably right through sponsorships with NASCAR, endorsements with celebrities like Ice-T, Chris Berman, Larry MC Reynolds, early Hudson, Ric Flair. Whoo. Vivica a Fox, et cetera, et cetera. They're like some NHL versions of this. One of the guys from Shark Tank is on here who's supposedly worth hundreds of millions of dollars, so I don't know why he needs the car shield money, but he's not actually yours. Perhaps perhaps that is why. But it is just, I don't know, like what the criteria are for like, are you a car shield person? Are you car shield material? It's basically like, are you from St. Louis? Do you know what car shield executive? Are you a baseball player of some sort? Then good news. You can have a 30 or 62nd spot with us. And I do need to know if these are the people who call me all the time about extending my warranty, because you don't drive, but I do, and I'm fine, you guys, if this finds its way back to you, I would like to be off of your list, please. Yeah. You could do a complete ranking of these and I encourage someone to steal that idea if they need to produce content somewhere. But I will say like the deliveries of the baseball players almost universally terrible to the point where I'm not sure whether they were instructed to be bad on purpose. Yeah, like don't learn your lines. Don't rehearse. I mean, I guess players are just driving over during an off day during spring training. They didn't put a ton of prep into this, but they look, it's almost charming in a way, just like how unpracticed they are and how clearly they are reading. And it almost enhances the comedic effect when they are going for a comedic effect, which is another weird thing, like sometimes the ads are supposed to be funny, and sometimes they are not at all, although they may be intentionally funny anyway, like there's a Dylan Carlson version that is kind of funny where they're like playing up the fact that they are just layering in all of these baseball puns and references and everything and kind of playing around with that. Car shield is magic..

"And by using that measure, hater is baseball's second most impactful player at any position buster since the start of last season. Here's the top 5. Shohei Ohtani, Peter. Aaron judge, Bryce Harper and Rafael bevers, a relief pitcher and for superstar position players. There is no way that you can overstate the impact Josh hader has on his team winning baseball games. I'm really glad you didn't note on him. I feel like I've short changed him this week as that dominus continues. So thanks for doing that. I was talking with Carl rabbit about the Red Sox turnaround offensively, which is pretty remarkable. Plus, there are a couple of weeks ago you might recall. I did this bit on the podcast called panic or patience. And I said, we should panic about the Red Sox. That's how badly they were performing. Well, as you identify this morning on your Twitter account, over the last 15 games, the road socks have scored 112 runs and hit 26 homers. It's been nearly 20 years since they had a stretch. That prolific offensively. And I think the most illustrative thing here is that in the three game series against the White Sox that they just finished, they hit 6 360 three as a team with 33 runs on 45 pits. They played the White Sox in a three game series earlier this month in which they hit two 16 as a team with 5 runs on 22 hits. It has come fast. And while Trevor story has obviously got a lot of their credit lately, it's been Devers, bogarts, and Martinez. The two three four hitters that rudder the ship. Buster, the collective batting average from the Red Sox two three four spots in the batting average this year in the lineup this year is three 27, a third of their lineup is sitting three 27. Right now, JD Martinez is hitting three 80. It is unheard of in today's climate to have any collection in your order, especially higher percentage of your at bats with that kind of production. I picked the Red Sox to make the playoffs before the season began. If they're going to hit anything close to this, they're going to make it all the way back and it's just going to come down to can they pitch it up and can they catch enough, but we know for sure they can hit enough. You see the Red Sox play at Fenway Park next Tuesday against the Cincinnati.

Closer Josh hader went on family medical emergency list, his wife has had complications as they expect their first child. And they also place outfielder hunter renfrow on the ten day injured list with a strained right hamstring. "Due to do. It's the closer carousel all right. So we did our last show on tuesday and not a whole lot has happened since then. Although trevor rosenthal who a lot of people thought was going to be a top ten closer our hands arrays as well is officially done for the season. Hip surgery is pending yankees. Go to chad green for the save on wednesday. I think that was predictable. Maybe they give chapman the weekend off. Maybe chapman doesn't go to the all star game There's lots of guys who could replace worldwide woody. He's pitching so badly right now. Something's obviously either physically or mentally or mechanically wrong. I'm not trying to be facetious. Something's wrong something's definitely wrong. I mean he. He pitches the tuesday game. Yeah it was. It was an irrelevant relevant split in the in the score at the time and he walked two batters. I believe in that game still control issues. Something's clearly amiss. So that's why. I said pickup chad green. Maybe i'll get some saves. maybe as an injury list pending here Any other situations that changed. Marlins went to bender on On wednesday night and he blew it But he's still really good. And i think for the rest of the season i wanna write a piece next week about The second half closers preview. And i think i might say the is more valuable more value than you may garcia. I actually think benders going to be there closer for miami. The final two plus months. The fact that it's now two opportunities on garcia's night off and garcia's pitch very ineffectively over seventy ira. Since may i. i'm with. You can make that case just when you thought. Scott barlow was safe and kansas city. Pitch yesterday like sixth-inning so there's no safety in kansas city Unbelievable just unbelievable. They give them a couple of weekends. Saves athenee puts him in the sixth. I know he's trying to win the game. And he's his best pitcher. Yep and zimmer started to give up some runs of lay it just man so frustrating trying to figure it out and fancy who's going to get the saves and then something like that happens and you don't know you had one more to mention with cincinnati and your guy heath henry who blew it one night. He got the opportunity the next night. The managers confidence play and he pitched well in it. I think he is going to keep getting saves or save. Chances is as inevitable. You're going to give up home runs. I mean he's worse than hector narrows who gives up home runs and every- is going to give up home runs last year. I mean look. He's going to give up on so let's leave it at that. It's a temporary thing. But but they're they're giving them opportunities. I don't think it is i. I honestly don't think it is. I think you know it. We're still weeks away. Maybe four weeks from seeing lucas. Sims and tj antone. So i don't think it's i think i think embry. And and embry and the lefty mir garrett are gonna really well lately he's pitch virus they're gonna share it i think i. I don't think there's anything else we need to discuss. Because nothing else is really going on. We dealt with of suarez. Josh hader bluish save no big deal and detroit. You don't care about arizona got to saves this month that clearly walking sar story is clearly there. Close yeah i know. I can't believe it. They had to saves before we get to the schedule. And the pictures to watch for the next because this weekend. A funding here from From kyle a little category regress or reinvest is the first category. Have these players. Change your mind enough. In the first african to be buying their current trajectory or is the regression monster. Coming together in three three players for you. Taiwan walker i think. Ob the ground replace because the mess will have an also grandma's go kyle gibson who i think was bad yesterday and nicosia knows who's still plan really great killing righties pitching as well. Regress or reinvest on these regional collie is still two of these guys from the the hash brown question the other day and i think we were pretty firm on trying to cash in the gibson ship. I i'm about wowed. By taiwan walker. But i do lean towards believing and i'm in the castanos there's no am cashing in that chip by f- you know i'm a castanos fan. You know he's not gonna win an nfl mvp. But his team made a run. He could make a run like his numbers there. Yes if the reds were a game behind the brewers you could see a scenario where nicolaas is a potential envy pecan nationally. Because i mean burnett leads the player raider right now overall. And the padres are obviously and contention. So i think the teaser degrom would be probably grow would be the mvp choices at this point right there as well. I mean if it's fifty home runs to he he might win it. Atlanta makes her comeback. Mets are still allowing teams to be in the race but the national league really is going to be interesting to both leagues. because otani versus vlad. That's going to be lots of fun as well. The whoever has more home runs maybe but otani if it keeps pitching well. I i don't know how how you can't give it to him anyway. I agree with you on that. The next category here is rebound or reject buying low and hoping for a rebound or selling it hopes as name holds more weight than a rough. First-half reese stretch the names are charlie blackmon. Anthony rizzo and the yankee closer who we already discussed he. Probably will rebound. He just needs a week off but blackman areso. I'm not sure i'm reinvesting here. I don't think i'm expecting a rebound in the second half for rather one. I mean rizzo against ryan pitching's bedding to thirteen my goodness. Yeah yeah he starting to fall into kind of a split situation which is bothersome at that age. It shows the the downward agent curve. I want to believe in both of these guys. I think that the name brands are going to keep the price too high for my taste. I'd probably lean towards the rockies.

"Walk off two run single from struggling jeff mcneil and the bottom of the eighth as the mets raced. Three separate one run deficits the top. The brewers four two three jose peraza had the game tying pinch hit solo homer off josh hader in the bottom of the seventh i blown save and homer allowed by hater. This season back to mcneil the hero in the opener and he certainly needed it back. That was huge. Never had a walk off hit so that was a lot of fun. It was a fun celebrating with boy snow decision for grammy a lot. A couple of solo homers. That was it though. Ten strikeouts over seven including the fifteen hundred of his career afterwards made it official will not even attend all star festivities and colorado. Next week was kind of open. The air whether i'd go or not and then you know thinking about it. I think it's best for me in this team for me to not go and throwing that and just rest for the second half boomer and geo said yesterday morning and i was listening to those guys talk and they seem to make a lot of sense and i'm just going to follow their advice send you. How many times did he hit hundred yesterday. Lost count. I mean he was. He was rocking and rolling a couple couple of home runs you know solo variety. Yeah right. Gary cohen said that he's thrown more one hundred mile. An hour pitches than every other starting pitcher can buy last night. There was lewis a hundred man. They had it on us and white ridiculous number hundred seventy nine and the closest next closest guy was like twenty four yeah craze. Ns they get shutout in game. Two five zip left the bases loaded. "This will be interesting because Vladimir Gutierrez is making his fourth start. All four against Central Division teams. This will be the first time a team gets a second crack at it. He pitched well in his first appearance against the Brewers last Wednesday, seven innings two runs. It has been said many times. It's a game of adjustments. Let's see what the adjustments are tonight from Milwaukee and how Vladimir Gutierrez counters those tonight He comes in with the record of two and one and earned run average of 265. The opposition for the Brewers. The lefty Eric Lower, getting a spot start tonight Record one and two earned run average 482. He appeared in the same game Gutierrez started last week he pitched in relief gave them four innings of two run baseball. They being the Brewers Um, he has made five starts this year has pitched out of the bullpen and those five starts. He gets the call tonight. What is? Um, what is interesting? This is the start of the nine game trip. This is the third series this year the Reds have played the Brewers. They will for the third series, Miss the Brewers two aces. Brandon Woodruff has a 1 52 earned run average. Corbyn Burns has a 2 27 earned run average. They missed them the first series of the year. They missed him The second series of the year. They're missing him tonight for the third series, Ida. I'm fine by me and the bonus tonight. You would think the Reds will not have to deal with Josh Hader. He has pitched for three consecutive days. I'm not arguing against that, either. Fine by me. Last three days, he thrown 18 pitches, 10 pitches and yesterday 21 pitches. I have not looked up how many times he has pitched four consecutive days, I would find it bordering on highly unlikely. That in June, Josh hater would be used 1/4 consecutive day by Craig Counsell in hitters Last 11 appearances has not allowed a run, so this kicks off the road trip nine games three in Milwaukee. Four in San Diego, and then a two game quickie against the Minnesota Twins. Nine games. So he tried to stretch it out tried to pop it. Twenty eight years old lives in Guthrie, Oklahoma slept around his neck bother. This is Josh Hader from the brewers. Nope. Different Josh eight, okay. Stretched it out. Dave, if you take your hands, put them into your Channy sort of push your head up the push it from side to side manipulate your neck. You don't do that too quickly. Seems that Josh did it too quickly or too popping sound next thing. You know, he felt his entire left side. Go numb. He got up tried to walk to the freezer to get an ice pack, and he said he couldn't walk any way other than a forty five degree angle to the left. You've lost his sense of balance. He eventually was able to get to mercy hospital in Guthrie, Oklahoma were Dr Vince McCallum said that he had a serious stroke. Caused by cracking his neck now, this is otherwise healthy twenty eight year old. It wasn't a predisposition to this or anything doctor says when he popped his neck, eat tour, arteries, it go to the bone of the neck where the neck joins the skull at the base of the brain. Remember that song the neck joins us. Call at the base of the brain. Just sure and the way he twisted his neck caused by section man. He's lucky. He's alive. Haters father-in-law took him to the ER where they administered a drug called TPA to break up clots at informed immediately. And hater said that after that he was transported to the larger mercy hospital intensive care unit for four days before being sent in patient therapy, and arterial Graham, she'll be artery was compromised because of the tear, that's what caused them not to be able to walk straight and fall down. Awful story got racist. Questions. Can you? What about popping your back popping your knuckles, popping your, you know, can you have a stroke that way, too because I think a lot of us do a lot of this popping. I do a lot of pop. I do the next thing. All the time it back and forth. Have you ever had your neck? Popped by a character actor. Yeah. Awful. Yeah. I used to have it done. All the time shock you. They don't let you know. They're going to do it. They know what they're doing though. Right. But it is weird. Yeah. It was very weird tell you wiggle your toes. And then they crack your because he can't tell you. I'm about to crack your neck. He'll stiffen up right now listener from the seven eight suggesting a rice, Krispy hood. I like that. I like are treat. Yeah. Perfect. You'd have to put nuts in it though. The indeed a lot of Martian that that's an embrace nut nut subpoenaed Eminem's, right? Yeah. Sure. Slogan from the eight one five Cheesehead is a Steve Cheesehead. Yeah. That's true. That's true. Go at work too. By the way, for those of you don't care about my tease head. But he's still wondering what happened to Josh hater. Says currently can walk without a Walker came. But he gets very tired is balances still off. But it's coming back is left side tingles a little feels heavier, but he's hoping for recovery. My right side doesn't feel sharp pain or hot cold on. Good emotionally. It's still a struggle to walk long distances. But it's getting better. He's had to wear an ipad for several weeks because the nerve was injured causing weakness. One of the muscles going to die. I mean. And here's a side effect is constant hiccups. That's weird. It can't stop hiccuping. Don't you have like my net crack some time on it on its own like so you can't prevent like you said good handed. The my hips crack, you know, you can't present prevent all cracking going on. But I think the body doesn't the body protect itself from you doing stupid things to the body. Well, you'd think but in this case it didn't did it with this. You over road the the systems and the body couldn't take the stress. So I would I would advise you not to crack your neck. That's the lesson from today's show. And if you choose to have an eye patch ready because it's like give us a twenty eight year old, dude, that's horrible. I feel bad. There will be a young woman. Same thing happened to her ten days ago. That was awesome. It is. So I didn't even I've never even heard of neither. Well, it's not like it's it's not like that's an internet trend. "Stanton that was a young Marlin team with a good core that might have been able to do some damage they kept them together. And instead, they they tore it down, and they started what did they get? That's the question. Still looking this Caleb. Smith got at least in the Antes top-flight pitcher. Tomorrow. Sixty two since last all star game. And he will be there all star tell you that Josh Hader. You know, he's turned around a little bit. You know since the all-star break forty seven innings eighty eighty seven eighty three strikeouts about that. But now yesterday came in for two innings twenty pitches. He got six outs. So when he's on it's tough what he's kind of a super reliever closer that. I think everybody wants now it's like you want to have all these arms that can go get outs for you. But if you have a guy like Josh Ator who can get the swings and misses that he does with the fastball can use them almost every day. It seems like brought about they need bullpen help Jefferson's back. But there's definitely need bullpen help. Starting up a little bit to do the brewers. There's no question. In fact, I'm glad you brought that up starting pitching. I I looked this up to smoking starting pitching the best in the league right now. Pittsburgh Cincinnati San Diego about that. Dodgers cubs nationals and then the. Giants so about seventh. But the brewers down in the bottom, isn't it funny though, because the brewers team we think of is just this powerhouse hitting team. And then you look back at the top the pirates are TV don't play a whole lot of good ball. The reds can't runs. The giants. Don't score a ton. But their teams that are keeping up off the board. Well, that's why they're dangerous because they pitching. And we'll talk about Trevor Williams pitching today against the dodgers. He goes against Richhill making a season debut. "This game. And they needed is production. I mean, you drove in seven runs tied a record. I think the three home runs in one game is ties a franchise record as well. Just having an incredible start the season mostly against the CEOs cardinals. He is owned them. He has eight home runs on the year and half of those are against the cardinal mandate. Played a little bit more than one series against them. But still he he is having a fantastic start to twenty nineteen as he as he ended twenty eighteen in for all of us who cheer for the Moore's you look at this team. And they're in first place, they're playing, okay. Their pitching staff has been a little shaky at times, Josh Hader, still lights out, but I heard Craig counsel with geniune, Jane, they have mostly fun conversations about game of thrones. And some other stuff. He's gotta be thrilled about wears team is at this point in the season. This team has a lot of potential a lot. Is on Milwaukee. And for all of us who are fans, you got to appreciate the fact that we have Christian yelich on the brewers, and the honest attempted coup on the bucks that's to MVP's. Hopefully when it comes to us that we get the cheer for. That's pretty cool. Yeah. And one of the things that Bob euchre mentioned when we did our opening day show when you guys interviewed him was how selfless yellow Jays how much he's liked in the clubhouse, and that's really radiating throughout the community. So he is getting some national attention. Now you wanna VP last year, but he was MLB network last night and talked to bid for a little bit of a long cub. It's a good one talking about playing here in Milwaukee. I wanna ask you about playing in Milwaukee. And how that's just transformed your whole career. Yeah. I love it here. So it's a great place to play great baseball fans. Great baseball city, and we have not believable team. It's fun to come to the everyday really is. And. Is there as take me in the mind of a hitter in that ballpark said of that box is the ball better there or what? I think it just allows for me allows me to stay within my approach and really rewarded for and often do extra free like you have to do extra where I might have had to do that in the past. And that's been my biggest thing is really just bay to just focus on hitting the ball hard and being rewarded for it? You're the cool thing is I was reading that the account of the game on social media and sounds like before the game yelich and council have their own little one on one batting practice. Boy, maybe do that every night just throw some soft pitches tosses. You can't have a much better than nineteen Christian yelich chat and for all the fans out there, including our producer Jordan was at the game. They had a long game like almost four hours long, which is not surprising given on a run scored. But early season hijinks fun at Miller park and Christian yelich. Obviously big part of that story. "They knew the position player inventory was definitely in need of help. They made a lot of trades. And you look at some of those guys they got back in trades. And will you damage is certainly one that jumps out at you right away. And and some of the other moves they made they built that core and Jake Bowers was one and then they turned around and they flipped him. So I think it was a matter of being aggressive of being smart with what they did of being disciplined and sticking their plan. But also still being willing to take chances. I mean, again, the the day of the winter meetings when the Jake Bowers trade was announced I just kept thinking, what am I missing here? What what why did they give up on Jake Bowers and the race put five million dollars in that deal to get ya de they only have two players making more than five million dollars BUSTER, so. Wow. That for them as a huge investment, but they saw something and as and they thought it was worth it. So they're willing to still take some chances and and build this team as they go. They don't really have a closer. Alvarado's gonna get most of the safe chances. But he's pitching the seven thing a couple of times already this year. So they're just doing it their way obviously the opener system and using the reliever to start the game. They're they're doing it their way they're willing to take chances. But they're very smart and what they've done. And you touched on the guy. I wanted to ask you about you wanted to ask you about last Jose Alvarado when you look at his pure stuff to me when you rank the best relievers in baseball right now I'd have Josh hater number one. And I'd have him a number two. What have you seen? It just you know, nasty is probably the polite term. Sick a lot too. And you have to put that in the right context. But you're just the movement and the velocity you don't see that combination that often. Now, the thing with Jose Alvarado that that I think creates a little separation from Josh haters. I think Josh Hader has shown even not in much longer time, but you'll more consistency. Alvarado came in yesterday. He couldn't really find the strike zone necessarily. So you're still gonna have moments like that with him. But you look at some of the, you know, the frame the frames and the video put on Twitter and just watch the movement on a pitch. I mean, he throws a sinker a left handed thinker ninety nine miles an hour that has the movement of a right handers slider and think about that for a second. But it's true. I mean, it really is. And and, you know, there was a clip floating around on MLB Twitter the other day, and that that was literally everyone you showed it to said the same thing that looks like a right hander slider, and it was a left-hander sinker. So I it's a combination of youth movement, and he's still wants to get better too. So I think he is a guy. Who is going to emerge as a star level player? I appreciate a Mark of sure we'll be talking to you through the year because they certainly look like they have staying power. You got it. Anytime BUSTER always enjoy it. Bleacher tweets. All right. Let's get to the Bleacher tweets we have to tweets from the same tweeter. We'll do those first for counter of bratwurst at nice kayak kayaking Smith. I think is the name kayaking Smith looks right eater. Bratwurst? Love. Lopez just did not have it yesterday for the White Sox. Lopez four the game struggling a tad as we take a look here. Lopez four plus hitting six hits four runs four walks. Couple of strikeouts. He threw eighty eight pitches. It snapped the streak of six starts in a row in which he had six innings last year. Manny benway lows came in an inning gave up two runs. Nate jones. Didn't have it. Jay's fries struggled a little bit. But then we did see Kelvin Herrera. And we also saw Coloma Alex caller me who is going to be big parts for this White Sox team when they have leads late in contests homers for you. Homers from Moncada at three for five. So the White Sox and Calvin bald lose by dental eight to six scores elsewhere around baseball. And if you want to jump in toxin baseball three one two three three two three seven seven six lots of other baseball to get to. And let's start up in Milwaukee. What a series to start the season. You've got the cardinals and the brewers game one. Esi? They don't have to take a day off because they got a roof over their place. It's Milwaukee they got a roof. We're Chicago we have two stadiums. No roof, and that that a lot of people would like to have a roof, but a retractable roof how perfect is that? You don't get rain outs. Nice temperature every game. But anyway, so in Milwaukee they opened the season with the cardinals a weekend series against St Louis and that first game ends with the brewers having a one run lead and Lorenzo Cain up. And over the wall to make a catch on the final play of the game to end it. And they celebrate a Milwaukee the second game in Milwaukee, you have Paul Goldschmidt and Paul Goldschmidt hits not one not two but three home runs, Paul Goldschmidt. The cardinals Watson homers and Saint Louis comes away with a win last night. You had a game. Where the brewers they're continuing to be Homer happy. I think almost all the runs this in this series have been at home runs. Travis shot hit one Mushtaq is hit one and Christian yelich at one now for Christian yelich. That's three homers in a three games. That's some of the year and a half to watch. He was in the VP race with havi Baya's last year Christian yelich continuing to play very very well for the Milwaukee Brewers they wrap up that series up in Milwaukee later on today. And I think this that was a a really smart move by David Stearns in the front office. Well, that's that's the guy that you can buy low on just because the fact that nobody else seemed to be looking at him. And I think the same is going to be said for another Texas reliever and Jose Leclerc later in the season. But we normally talk seven eight nine with bullpens. But I don't think that that would do this bullpen any Justice because it is loaded top to bottom. I mean, you know, everybody talked about the Oakland bullpen last year. And how good that was after the trade deadline. I would take over ending. Yeah. And I would not blame you. I'm gonna mention there. Seven eight nine guys, even though you said you weren't going to, but they're seven eight nine of either Josh Hader, cork naval or Jeremy Jeffress in various different orders because he them all over the place was really really good. And I know they had different struggles with them last year with Jeffers struggling in the playoffs. And I believe a huge reason for that was the fact that he just got tired in in overworked and uncork enable in the mid season was sent down to AAA. And then when he returned he was flat out awesome. But the thing is they had the depth last year. And they're going to be losing two of those guys brand Woodruff in corporate burns be quarter both likely going to the starting rotation. So they ended up Ling at bringing in as you mentioned before Alex Claudio, and then Bobby wall from the Mets, and he might not start off in the major leagues he might. Start off in triple a where he did really well for the Mets last year. But he's a guy that brewers are really high on and his strikeout rate is really really good..
"josh hader" Discussed on WTMJ 620
"Globes are approaching Sunday night with the buzz this morning. A lot of circles, the Oscars, and we'll Kevin Hart. Indeed be the host. You gotta be made the actor comedian their guy December fourth, but he withdrew two days later when homophobic tweets he had been ears earlier made public he and Ellen Degeneres discussed the dust up on her talk show that will air later today. I think perfect that all this happened because there has to be a conversation. About homophobia, and whatever brought up whatever they did. And whoever's trying to hurt you it brought up u- reminding people that you're a bigger person that you've already apologized. Your heart says what happened to him on Twitter wasn't attack? It wasn't a coincidence that the day after I received the job that shoots just somehow manifested from two thousand eight now, I don't know who follows Neo who doesn't I'm on social media every day. I got over forty thousand tweets go through forty thousand tweets to get back to two thousand eight that's an attack DeGeneres forgave hard for the old tweets urging him to change his mind about hosting the Oscars. Then edit this mortal called the academy today because I really want you to host the Oscars. I think that I was so excited when I heard that they asked you I thought it was an amazing thing. I knew how important it was. And how it was drained. So I called them. I said Kevin's on. I have no idea if he wants to come back and host, but what are your thoughts? And they were like, oh my God. We we want him to house we feel like that. Maybe he misunderstood it was handled wrong. Or maybe we said the wrong thing. But we want. Want him to host what whatever we can do. We would be thrilled. And. That's pretty much how they lifted he says, he's keeping an open mind about perhaps hosting again. This only happened a month ago feels like a year ago says it's all drama played out, but he took himself out of consideration as the controversy erupted. He claimed that the gave him an ultimatum demanding that he either apologize or be replaced heart refused to apologize at first thing you've done. So the best took himself out of consideration. Only to apologize. Not once but several times afterward, some of the social media blowback and seeing this morning, not necessarily good for Eleanor, Kevin Hart, including one person who I believe is a movie critic for BuzzFeed, and he points out several things among them. The fact we were talking about this off the air to call it an attack. Not necessarily the best thing responded thing to say because you can check anybody's old tweets. It's not hard and it's been done. Brian. You're mentioning in sports. How many guys member of the Bruce got Josh Hader this past season after he went into the game at the all star game. If you remember, Dante even Chen. So now Milwaukee buck similar situation happened when he had a tremendous national championship game at Villanova before he was drafted by the buck. So even if it isn't a tack. It's better. It's a better approach in my opinion. Just to go out and say, you know, what I screwed up on it and try and move on. Which is what hater did. What did interesting story and a good reminder to everyone and talk to your kids about this. What you tweet online, and what you put out there stays out there. Forever. Seven forty four brains in for Doug, ES sports next. This is Jeff Wagner, inviting you to join me every Friday at two thirty for of culture, corner, pop culture corner. What was the best.
Kevin Hart steps down as Oscars host
"Oscars. Well as often happens when things like this are announced. Offensive tweets that Kevin Hart had years ago. Came up and these tweets were reposted and made their way around social media. Many of these tweets were, very homophobic, and Kevin Hart had to sit here and realized that this was a big controversy. All of these tweets he had looked Kevin Hart's a comedian. And he tweeted out some things that he probably thought were funny. One thing was about his son growing up if he was gay. I would stop him from being gay. Now is this him talking tongue-in-cheek is this him being a hundred percent serious? I mean, you know, you don't know what's in somebody's mind when they want to tweet something, and again, these are tweets from years ago many as much as ten years ago. It got so bad. Kevin Hart stepped down as host of the Oscars. He was announced today, and he withdrew from hosting the Oscars. Now, the Oscars has to go look for somebody else to host the show because of these homophobic comments that were made on Twitter by him years and years ago, and the reason this intersection sports is because this is the same thing we saw earlier sear with Josh hater we saw with Josh Allen quarterback of the bills night of the NFL draft. All these racist tweets from Josh Allen from five years ago when he was in high school came up same thing with Josh Hader. Josh comes in all star game, boom. Neither the all star game. Here's some old tweets from Josh hater where he saying some very racist things. And Josh Hader, had to apologize for Josh Allen had to apologize for maybe fell a little bit through the draft because of it. But this has happened now. So many times mainly we saw it in the world. Of sports. But now, here's entertainment. And it's the first thing you think of when you see Kevin Hart is Josh and Josh Allen, and how many times and now you're wondering the next time. This is going to happen. Because believe me, there's people who have these tweets saved up waiting for the right moment to say, you know, what I'm gonna loose this on everybody. And you're going to see exactly what they said years and years ago some seven years ago eight ten years ago doesn't matter they use the curiosity in this particular case. And obviously, you can't it's like when we talk about these sarcasm font and it being necessary for Twitter, right where people take you at your word, Kevin Hart as a comedian and distasteful. Sure, we can have those discussions in the change of where the line is in a in a lot of discussion and a lot of where society and culture in a second in a lot of. Areas at this point. But this is something he's address before the something. He's talked about before. And he's continued to make at a minimum ten movie swabs GV appearances. Plus stand up tours whatever every year. This is not been a controversy. That's in persistent. So but now. But why why is the Oscars? The biggest thing he's ever done in his hosting the Oscars. That's the biggest thing. This is the pinnacle of his career hosting the Oscars. A really really big deal. Sure, it is you it's bigger than any movie he's ever done. It's a bigger audience at one point a bigger. Focus on him. No, no, focus on how bad or well. His his performance, you host the Oscars. It's the biggest moment of your career. Biggest moment of Seth Macfarlane's career. Biggest moments of Billy crystal's grand. These are guys that have had great careers. But you Oscars. That's something different. You're talking about a television audience. That's only rivaled by the Super Bowl. It's more people watch the super, obviously. So it's a little bit less than that. But you're talking about a television audience that that everybody is watching you this is about you. It's once in a lifetime. So this is when okay, what is really the most the most powerful time to strike at Kevin Hart. When a movie of his is coming out on a Friday or hey, your name is the Oscar host. You know, what bull here it is? Here's these Ray. And because the new cycle is owned by the fact that here, you are you're the Oscar host so people are paying attention to this story already. And now, here's where I come out with. Here's these tweets he had years and years ago that he's addressed and instead of bowing to the pressure from the Oscar said, hey, we need you to apologize. We need you to go and condemn what you said. And he's talked about it. Because look I was a different guy, then those jokes is part of the act, etc. And take him at his word or don't the reality is it's it's years in the past that has been addressed. He said, I'm not apologizing about I get that. Some of the things though are need a little bit more of an explanation. Maybe he's gonna regret it later because it's the Oscars. He's gonna say I'll buy I would have had to why did they not do this? It's the Oscars because right now his reputation is really low. You don't wanna turn into some look what happened to Mel Gibson for how many years he was like everybody's staying away from him. And he's had to come back in the shadows. And come back from from getting arrested in everything and he's not really all the way back yet. Kevin hart. I didn't need to apologize. But what explain some of this stuff? Just do something to say, why don't you want your son to grow up? I don't want to be a conversation about this. The it's mainly about how would you become famous? You have to realize, and this is what so many people on Twitter don't realize when they first get on it. It's not a group tech. Next right, Twitter's not a group. Text Twitter is not you and a bunch of people hanging out in the living room making jokes. But that's how people treat it like they're texting with their friends like, hey like athletes like Josh Allen. He's just fooling around in high school. He's around on Twitter with his buddies who were on Twitter. And it's a fun thing thinks like it's only the small circle of us. That are looking at things Twitter is a record is a physical record of you, your beliefs, and what you say, and everybody's got to realize that and athletes don't realize that you're not in a locker room hanging out talking and saying off color things and things that could be offensive. But because you're joking around in the locker room, everything is okay. That's not what Twitter is and people still don't realize that Josh hater didn't realize what Twitter was Josh Allen didn't realize it Kevin Hart, beginning didn't realize it. I can just say whatever I want to and part of it is when you're a comedian, and you're an athlete, and you're you're an entertainer. You're not really as beholden to things as you are. And you're an athlete because I. Could say what I want 'specially comedians because that's what they do some jokes are in bad taste, but they do that for a living. So you don't realize it. Okay. I need to be beholden to anybody. But then the stuff comes back, and you go, oh, it's really come back to bite me in the ass realize that Twitter what you tweet is a is a public record of who you are what you're saying. And the number one thing you should do if you're famous go back and scrub that Twitter account. Maybe people have it already and they're waiting for you to be famous. But if you're not famous people on hold onto stuff go and take a whole day, go through all your tweets scrubbed, the bad ones. Get rid of the bad ones. Go through everything just keep going, however long. It is go to Starbucks sit in front get that delete button ready and get rid of anything. You think I don't want this taken the wrong way? Someone might come back and see this get rid of it. But yet because there's still keeps happening and happening sports and people didn't pay attention happen to Kevin Hart. People are still going to let this go. And you're going to see this controversy continue with different people Jewish statements that he put up on Twitter just a little while ago. I made the choice to step down from. This year's Oscars. This is because they did not want to be a distraction on night that should be celebrated by so many talented artists. I sincerely apologize to the LGBTQ community for my insensitive words from my past. I'm sorry that I hurt people. I'm evolving and to continue to do. So my goal is to bring people together not terrorists apart, much, love and appreciation d the academy. I hope we can meet again. So there's his apology. So there's this apology on twentieth. Politics, LG LGBTQ community. That's that's kind of getting that finally from him. So hoping that this turns the page and maybe doing it now. Maybe they wait a week and say, you know, what? No, we he apologizes. This is that and he could go in and host the Oscars again. But at the very least it's a wakeup call for everybody about not pressing send her we're gonna talk about Herm Edwards for thirty years. Don't press send one of the wisest things he ever said he says, he's a garage. I went back and tremendous job at the college level that was mocked and derided when it happened in. In a very avid says one of the most intelligent things related to our social media world you play to win the game. And don't press. He can make T shirts for days. Yeah. That's you. Gotta do. That's odd. Kevin hart. That's the t shirt I wear the next couple of days. So 'cause you know paparazzi is gonna fall around now because all the stuff that don't press N t shirt. He's in Australia. I believe right to win the game Twitter at how about a Fresca, Mike, it's Molin dome. The Jason Smith show with. Fred Mike, carbon coming up next
Sean Nukem, Turner and Josh Hader discussed on First and Last
"They sent many, many years ago. One of them almost had the crowning moment of his brief young career, Atlanta Braves, pitcher, Sean, nukem, nearly pitcher, no hitter against the dodgers yesterday came within a strike of throwing out of shutting out and no hitting the l. a. dodgers. But soon thereafter he was apologizing for tweets that were sent in two thousand eleven and two thousand twelve that were. Offensive. One tweet included a racial epithet. That was part of a rap lyric. Several others contained gay slurs. He spoke about his no hitter than he came back and issued a statement about the tweet, saying, quote, I just wanted to apologize for any insensitive material. It was a long time ago, six or seven years ago, saying some stupid stuff with friends. I know I've grown a lot since then. I didn't mean anything by it. It was just something stupid. I did a long time ago and I didn't mean anything by it for sure. This is very similar to the situation that brewers reliever, Josh Hader had to deal with the night of the all star game says MLB in a statement, quote, such inappropriate comments have no place in our game. We are aware of this serious issue. Billy Bean's going to meet with Mr. nukem this week, and we will identify an appropriate course of diversity training in the Atlanta community being as major league baseball, vice president for social responsibility and inclusion that Sean nukem. We also had Washington. National shortstop, trade Turner, who became the third major leaguer this month to have old embarrassing an offensive tweets resurface. These also day two thousand eleven two thousand twelve from when Turner was an eighteen year old. The tweets included a gay slur anti-gay comments and joke with racist undertones Turner on Sunday night issued a statement, saying quote, there are no excuses for my insensitive and offensive language on Twitter, Turner, like nukem is now twenty five years old saying quote, I am sincerely Sarli sincerely, sorry for those tweets. I apologize wholeheartedly. I believe people who know me understand those were credible actions do not reflect my values or who I am, but I understand the hurtful nature of such language. And I'm sorry to have brought any negative light to the nationals organization myself or the game. I love and his own statement, Mike Rizzo the GM of the national said Turner's tweets were quote inexcusable, but he also added Turner has quote, been a good teammate and model citizen in our clubhouse, and these comments are not indicative of how he's conducted. Himself while a part of our team Turner was second in the rookie of the year voting in two thousand sixteen hitting to sixty five with thirteen homers. This year old tweets were posted by Twitter user who cited earlier postings of old offensive tweets from Sean nukem. So we're back at this again right back to where we were a couple of weeks ago with Josh hater tweets, and it is a growing problem perhaps for major league baseball..
