"Like my my soul requires it. And I it's. It's something that I keep inviting myself to do that I haven't. Actually accomplished it. Yeah I hear that. If I, if I gave you one way to do it. That I wish somebody explained it to me this way because it makes it a little bit sexier. And a little bit more appealing. His think of it like. You'RE GONNA. Sit and you're going to watch your breath. You're just going to focus, so your brain wants to focus like A. it's like a flashlight and it wants to like we pointed at the TV, and that's where our attention is, and you don't notice clicking. Clock in the room, because your attention is pointed at the TV, right or you and I it's pointing at each other, and I'm not hearing my daughter running around because some focused on you so in that same way we just point the spotlight of our attention on the sensation of breathing, and this is almost over by the way. It's not a long lecture, so you just focus on breathing, but here's the key. Instead of thinking about whether or not, you're doing a good or bad. Whenever your brain goes somewhere else you just come back with compassion and forgiveness, and allowing like not like a come on, Josh. Just think about the breath. You're doing bad. You just go into a mercy where everything and anything is okay. You think about punching somebody in the face don't. Don't let your brain rope you in and take five minutes thinking about what a piece of shit you are. You just let it flow like a like a leaf on a river, and that's what you're practicing, but if somebody had been like, it's just a time that you set aside to forgive yourself for being exactly how you are while also trying to bring your focused here breath, and that is a more appealing way than this'll help you sleep this. Help you a strassel. And when you're good at it, maybe you'll see a floating blue light like she. She talked about that. Need pray love seeing a floating blue light, and for the longest time I would meditate trying to see a floating blue light. It's like. It's like you were saying about the trees and the and the transcendental has paintings in the ansel Adams Oto like bees, small and disappear. We don't need to achieve anything. Just think of it as a time where you go. Whatever I think or feel is okay. And Breathe. That's that's meditation. Oh of that, that's all you need to actually take that up. I, hope you do. It'd be fun. I really okay, so you're movie. Brother Zach braff on. Wish I was here and you're so great in that movie and your great with you. And and he and I are like we got to hang out and I'm going to say that you. Let's hang up. I WANNA. See you in person as a person. I stayed up I mean like not as a fan I. WanNa see you Josh and Hang, so let's do it. I would absolutely love not a lot. Okay, but. Thank you for doing it. Do you feel oh? I'm sorry last question. Yeah. People would be mad if I didn't ask. Ask every guest. Can you think of a time? You laughed really really hard. Sometimes, it's a little bit too much fresher. The time you laugh the hardest in your life, but I can think of a time when you were laughing till it hurt I was I was driving with my buddies Southam Sam. And we were going to big bear mountain and we. We just doing the stupidest. Like thing where we came up with a show called the gruff stuff, and it would get in early featured shirt in only featured. Characters. Like, Miss Piggy and like. The like inspector gadget by qual- like it was the dumbest thing ever, and they were all on this talk. Show called the graph stop and I almost blacked out because I was laughing so hard that I almost you're off the side of the Vulcan road. Me and it was. You know that scene in in In who framed Roger Rabbit where the weasels all by from happen to are doubtless me and that. I was going to be the old. I love in people that listen to this show. No that my story is me with an old friend saying stuff that doesn't even make sense yet. It's great to bolster. Its it's it's insane. We ours was a cooking show. that. We used to speed up our voices high speed dubbing and it was cooked. McCain with album, so it was. And he was none of this was planned. We didn't even know it I'm so proud of myself. We didn't even know we were doing Improv, but we were we were. So pleased with my so, but it was the cooking show, and it was called cooking with Alvin. And he said and. Alvin goes and today on cooking with me, and we thought that Alvin calls cooking with Alvin cooking with me. Was the funniest. I mean like that is gruff stuff that is just like a pure kid. I don't know. A. Shit. I was just I love the Dumber, the better I love a good pun, and like my friends always know that like the dumber the pun the more I will just go into tizzy I well when I see you in person I'll have my pun program renting. "Sort of like move to another level of existence when I first saw a Robin Williams performance in Aladdin, you know I was about eleven, years, old, ten or eleven, years, old and Anti Shaw that movie I Simon. Fuck you can do that. It's the same thing at somebody that's like any elevated at to believe. There was a lawsuit because he he rightfully deserved writing credit because he rift so much of it, but that's you add that energy which is like I. See what you've done here, but not only. Are you going improvised an ad, but it's like I'm GonNa. Could an amount of wind and I I. Don't know the language just saying like. What what is the word is ver- abroad. There's something happening. I'm going to do this. I'm not just saying this because you brought it up. Like Robin Williams would do if he had that voice if he was singing. It's like I'm GONNA put a hundred percent into this, and there's something funny about it like it's not just. It is excellent, but there's also something where you're like. It's funnier. Like. With stand up. Committing is funny and I think with musical theater. Committing is funny when when I've watched everything you do in fact. I know you believe me, but it's on my notepad here to ask you about commitment. If you could just talk about the importance of finding your Unin barest cells that can be end summer like that's a guy I'm going like I know where he is. He's not in a magical forest. Those actors aren't there. He's finding it. He's imagining unless I'm wrong. He's imagining a time where this will play in a theater and it will destroy, but that's something you've gotta dig into yourself and find. Yeah, give you a I appreciate. All of that is all very very generous encountered a you know what is. What was so clear to me about the making of frozen three example was that it really was a collaboration and and Jennifer Lea in Chris Balkin in our composers, Kristen and Bobby They wanted. They wanted what you know what I brought they would. They wanted me to to play fuck around. And Its ending sneeze words like naievety in positivity, and like you know childlike wonderment were sort of the the jumping off points, so you have no choice but to commit. It's right. It's like it's like that Trey. And that story that I told you it's like. If you don't go all in, then, the audience will sort of be like well. My supposed to know. And that that's what happens as parents. Watching the movie also would have seen the movie of whatever as grownups those movies, too, but like. It's alluring. It pulls you in. If that person's committing that hard, you can't help. The spell is cast in your sucked him. That much deeper as The fourth time you saw the producers, and understandably they they couldn't find that. You're giving it and I have to imagine in a film. You know you only have to nail it one time. And, that's the other thing is like it. You really do get a couple of slices at the advocate, and and you know the sequel was even more fun because i. knew what I could get away with. An I knew that I could really sort of up the ante in mess around and do even crazier Shit. That would somehow five its way On Loving that ends Aladdin's gallery pitcher behind you. You have nothing to do with it since airbnb now that feels very transcendental lists remember when America was like a frontier and all the paintings I'm reading a great book right now I'm reading. An amazing book called the over story It won the Pulitzer last year in, and it's all about if. People joke around that. It's the tree book, but it really is breath like this five hundred page masterpiece sort of about our relationship with trees, told through the story of this of people, all kind of smashing into. Each other's lives with the purpose of saving these incredible trees that are. The lifeblood of the world. Where the amazing that's! That is really interesting. It's one of the things that you don't necessarily know. It is fascinating into pitch it out. Rena five hundred page book about trees, but I'm also the guy who had never read a five hundred page book about trees, and loving it, oh, and it's called over the over story, the over story I think. The Trans transcendental us. Have that term the over soul. It's not because of that. No No, no, it's it's. Off. An under story is like the part of the tree that basically. I think I'm I think this is like the canopy. and so I think it's a play on those words. It's Richard. Powers is the author in it's It's brilliant I gotta check it out the thing that stuck with me about those paintings in about that photograph that you're seeing behind me, is that it dwarfs you so like you? The Spectator feel very small, and and before we sort of felt like we had dominion over nature it up in the early art of of of early America where it's like all the paintings were like holy ship. That's GONNA fuck and By the way I wish we still had like the human nature's to consume everything.

Are you fucking nuts? Now? We came. We came in, but I'm getting to censor. You wouldn't do that. No, we're. We're having the same discussions I. Here's the thing is I am so. Blown away, and and we also marched by by the show of support, and by the fact that for the most part everyone was so unbelievably cautious by wearing masks, and also nervous because I think we're all seeing an uptick in the numbers again which freaks me out because I just can't imagine a a life of just indefinite Stat home quarantine, so it's a tough call like. Like, we're. We're looking at the same thing now we're we're. We're sort of planning something that, but again it's like as long as you're going from one shelter in place to another, and you're like you know you go into that facility and clean it up like I feel like it's. It makes absolute sense like I need to get my kids out of this house like I. I can't take much more or less of it is. It is sad that like the most joy my children have had in the last three months is is marching for social justice reform die. We got was like their biggest outing yet, and that is crazy. I so funny that you say that because Vallon I came home and we had a feeling first of all. You get all these feelings from doing something like that, but we also just identified. What is this feeling and it's like a? We're tired from having done something with other people that specific kind of collective. Good tired and we were so happy like I mean obviously. We felt everything throughout the day, but like maybe the next morning there was sort of like a glow of having been with humanity that reminded me that we're not missing. That being said and to start on a less serious note. We dived right in. We dove. We dove who we did it both we did both. I'm so happy to talk to you i. feel like this is what I need. un-unsought debate concentric fan by the way in the van Josh. Aw, it's true I can't handle it. That's so nice to hear your genius. Charlie. God I have to start planning what I'm going to say before I say. I also WANNA, give a shout out to the original Pete's pick. which is Alphabrain, one of the original Pete's picks? Alphabrain, you guys know this by now is a new atropine is made with earth grown ingredients. It helps you with focus. It helps you with memory. It's not a stimulant. It's not like caffeine like coffee or anything like that meaning you can take it even before bed I highly recommend you do because it can give you some pretty cool dreams, but basically for the past four or five years now if I am doing anything where I need my brain to be operating at peak performance. Be at a podcast or reading a script or doing stand up, or even just going on a date or hanging with friends and I want to be there fully in my brains, full power, which just makes life better I take Alphabrain Alphabrain fifteen minutes beforehand. You absolutely feel the difference you feel that your brain is getting the nutrients and like I said the earth grown ingredients that it needs to function at maximum capacity I. Wish I knew about it in school, but I'm so glad I know I know about it now value. Take a couple of days off I. Still Take It. Just because it helps me be in the moment, it helps me be clear. It helps me retain what I learn helps me be a good friend. Good host, and hopefully a good partner like I said it's your brain, and if you want to give your brain some help that my needs I think all of us.

"The one of the things that's come out of our quarantine in this covert nineteen world is the reunions of your favorite old TV shows I think a lot of people are going nostalgic right now anyway just in terms of what you're watching because we're all kind of harkening back and grabbing for a simpler time but also there's so many opportunities now for people to connect over zoom over Google hangouts over all the other meeting apps so now we're getting a ton of reunions you remember John Krasinski reunited with his office co stars recently the cast of that thing you do linked up over a virtual screening of the of the comedy after the death of the lead singer of fountains of Wayne the Goonies just did a reunion of Friday night lights having a reunion and Melrose Place is having a reunion tonight six five one six four one one oh seven one what TV show cast would you like to see reunite remember the cast of the nanny did a table read of a show the first yeah and you know Bradley you'll you brought this Josh gad is kind of at the center of a lot of these reunions well he he's the one behind the Goonies and there's this new web series and it's called reunited apart with Josh gad the first one is the Goonies and that premiered yesterday it was actually I mean I'm sure somewhere I was paying attention better than we were but I saw this yesterday morning and it took place live at about eleven o'clock our time yesterday after morning but then I watched it when I got home and it was about thirty minutes like twenty six some minutes of Josh gad hosting a reunion with literally your favorite people from the Goonies and not only your favorite people but like the writer the director and Steven Spielberg so he brought all these people together it was just like frankly I think one of the reasons these are happening is because it's so it takes such little resources to make it happen you literally just have to have the people and by the way nobody's doing anything right so everybody is available to show up for

Oh Man I wish No my primary care physician to make an appointment for annual physical. Okay with blood work. And they said They're not doing fasting staying anymore. But I don't have to fast at all. What exactly what to you? Don't have to make it a huge breakfast right before I go. I want you to eat a pound Kaunda Bacon right before they take your blood. I don't trust I'm still gonNA fast because I I'm very skeptic I mean it sounded like green blood. It's Yeah Gotcha moment but then find out. You're still going too fast. It is a Gotcha for you. He probably definitely was allowed to drink caffeine. Because now you can do anything. uh-huh my gosh. You can stop at McDonald's and have like a fucking SAS `age I guess so often. I wonder what the difference is. I'M GONNA ask when I go what's changed. Mom Um but yeah you can just eat your heart out. Can I share with people. We're transition. Then you and I watched the Taylor Swift documentary out and we became obsessed obsessed with her in. Just WanNa be clear so that if people are on the fence about watching that I In the past was like if I were younger Taylor I wouldn't be the thing for me because she's just so widely accepted and she's kind of like while she had like a goody goody kind of persona Clean Cut American girl and I think for all my own personal reasons housing I need something a little edgier. So that's when I entered the documentary in and I left. She is so phenomenal on so many levels right I just we were just wowed by her nonstop. Yes she so. Oh she's very self aware which I loved and she's transitioning it. Sounds like out of China. The thing everybody wants her to be done with that. And it's really cool. It's a very good document. And it's a very good documentary. And then I decided I'm GONNA buy oversaw. I mean there's already have pretty much oliver songs she it makes the heck easiest music do have already like five or six of her songs and you know I love that song about me so much so tall it did. This is Harry Style Zohreh. I mean that's the rumor. Then it's Harry silence but I think when we interview will come to find out it's about me anyways so then the super bowl halftime show happened. Oh my God I was all a titter I decided I'm obsessed now was Shakira. Yeah I know more about her. I WANNA learn about her. Can I say this is a a little bit of a microcosm of Your Life House. You just get a little piece of somebody and then you'll love them. Oh Yeah Yeah Yeah. Yeah and that's what's happened with these three folks. I own this obsessed with yes Shakira Whitney Houston and Taylor. I think it's funny because I mostly obsessed the off road racers and motorcycle racers but slowly and surely all my interest surf pop singer. Yup I think what I like about it is there's so much coach left undiscovered because I shares on the table. Yeah Lean Dion is on the table. I mean if we can get you coming around on Selene. That'd be great away. All they need to do is make a documentary about guaranteed lover. It's a hard life. Those people how God it it really is. It's so isolated. It's their whole life those a tours we we we were watching Taylor Swift. I was like you know man just living in a hotel half the year. Is this the very lonely isolating experience. You're not home. You know your life's like hold temporarily forever though kind of yeah for as long as you're succeed anyway and the like the weight and stress of. Oh the last five albums have I've been number one. If this number five now up the huge failure if like fallen off a cliff like steaks also. I think it's really great to watch with kids. I'm I'm really looking forward to watching the Taylor swift one with girls because it really explores relying on other people's approval for your own self esteem. which is I think we all tend to fall into? Yeah and then also the eating stuff is here agreed. Oh good for her including that. I know I need to do that impressed by. Ram To give a person. Also write us you do right. Yeah what I was. Thinking also is thank God for Net flicks. Yeah I mean Every time I'm like when we WANNA watch I turn it on their something new like there was a Taylor swift and and there were. I mean there was cheer. There was the GOOP lab like. There's every time I turn it on. There's something new for me to get excited about. They are are brilliant over there. I mean it's just we're living in golden era. We are like the roaring twenties TV in is people look back on air and realized only they were having so everyone's going so much sitting on their couches forever ever so he says dry vs and no one knew what that meant But it's a French phrase often using English to express a cheerful enjoyment of life an exaltation of Spirit Not Opaque No no no need I think it's very fitting that we have such loose understanding of the word opaque when that in a way encapsulates what the word means gene. The irony is so ironic. You cut the irony with a knife in here okay. New York Water Marine there was this article about New York. ORC Water and America's test kitchen did some testing on. Is it really the water in these bagels. Okay good that's causing the the bagels the taste so good so I don't know if I believe I'll just go ahead and skip all this and say no. That was my hunch okay. They'll they say they just say no. Okay I'll read this part over the cooks America's test kitchen whipped up a batch of bagels with water from Brooklyn and a batch with water from Brookline gline Massachusetts. It's kind of funny that they did that. Similar name. A blind side by side tasting proved no the difference at all next sent samples of both waters. They used in their bagels to the lab. They found that there was indeed a difference in Ph levels. Newark Water has lower levels of calcium calcium carbonate and magnesium. This explains why and other Metropolitan Locales with harder. Water the BAGELS. come out tougher. The hardness of the water toughens up the gluten. Well that's not good for you laugh. You need loose gluten gluten jury tough enough for me. Yeah tough possible. Lastly America's test kitchen test of the pitch levels in the bay goes after they'd ferment. It Oh yes. The recipe leaves the bagels out. Overnight to ferment is in fact actually one of the reasons. New York bagels are so great. They're leaving him out on the curb and the difference was miniscule. Okay okay all that information led them to conclude that New York water can't take the credit for the finished product of the Bagel. So what is it. Then that makes New York bagels so glorious according to America's test kitchen it's all about the recipe. They have one here that I could click on Oh you make me some bagels. Ok well learn. That recipe made me some some chicken wings. House House turned you a lot of chicken wings. Okay I'm GonNa say that the making of the bagels probably ten times harder than the making of the chicken wings. It has to because I've never done anything easier than made those chicken wing bowl of cereal has more steps or Fryer you just throw it in the air fryer tourism swimming pools debt well Aw Aw olive oil spray but yeah and then twenty minutes later the best wings we've ever had lease. Hey we've gone too long without batch wings. It's been a week. Wow Yeah are we should have and then do we already told me about the tasty treat. We've been eating is also at the Air Fryer Fried Oreos all my they're covered in crescent roll. I mean it's the best mom prepares them treat. I've ever had in my life in you and I sit there like children waiting for her to pull them out of the air. Fryer we panic when we see the plate. There's never another knocking play. It gets the best desert ever have. Yeah I really think it might be because the Oreo oriole becomes soft inside because almost twinkie filling. But it's still intact. It's weird because it's still intact like it looks liquefied fide. It's this Bin. Safa Fide S-o-f-i became completely stop. It's not liquid. No it's it's just soft but it's still like intact act in its same shape inside the crescent roll gooey. Oh my becomes Louis. It's so good right now. Of course okay. Okay you imagine splashing some New York tap water all over Apparently would do nothing speaking of the opposite assistive this Okay Atkins Oak by the task. Can't you said it's the opposite of fat free. It's to eat fat and then to go into ketosis the Atkins Diet is a low carb fat diet so those criminals are not going to be good on the Atkins. "Let me as a question. Yeah so I have a ton of father issues so Yeah and my dad died. I got this amazing window. The last four months he was live was in a position to be able to go back and forth to Michigan and deal with all this cancer stuff. I was enormously Cathartic and then coupled with them having our first kid right after became a pathway to a ton of forgiveness and understanding. Are you anywhere close or nearing that. If anything worse it's es here's the thing is like. I have an amazing stepfather. I have an amazing I. Love Stepfather does Stepfather Stan. So my Stepdad really was president. I love my dad. My Biological Dad ages was was kind of a crummy father. Suren terrible husband. And that's okay. He wasn't crazy. Young Lindsey like twenty eight or something you guys. Yeah I mean well well I have of an older brother. I have a My my oldest brother Jason's ten years older. My middle brother is eight years older and I was supposed to be Jenny. Okay I was going to be the girl can workout so then if your brother is ten years older than Than Your Dad was about nineteen or twenty when he had your brother early. Twenty's yeah okay so the two things that I go to now. I'm Mike. Oh my God. My Dad was eighteen when he had my brother and he was twenty three when he had me. I was thirty eight and forty such different stage alive right. I would have been horrendous father. In my twenties I was horrendous steward of my own body now the thing that switched for me when I when we Lincoln was did he pass before you had Lincoln there. There is a picture of him holding Christians belly in the hospital bed. She's about eight months pregnant and yet he's rubbing her belly. It's really sweet pitcher but when we had Lincoln and all of a sudden it clicked like Oh. I wasn't the victim in that. He was the victim. If I had to choose. Whether I missed my child's life or missed my dad's life. I would wait. Choose to miss the parent not apparent around then to have now met Lincoln and not watched her do all the things. She did is heartbreaking. I really feel I'm very sad for him and I'm like it's worse. That's a tragedy. Yeah I wasn't sure it is a tragedy and you know I think like I have very little in common with my dad but the one thing that I will say is I think there's a part of him that probably does look back and regret missing missing out because by virtue of missing out on so much he's now missing out on everything that followed right because I just don't have the relationship with him that I wish I did. Yeah you don't have the Foundation Foundation. I don't have the foundation but I think it's It sounds like it's coupled with the same thing I had which is also a door my fucking mother so in my story my mother was the Arrow Hero and the dad had to be tagged. My mom is a Superhero Ryan. Single mom raised three boys who all ended up up being successful with amazing families. And that is a very hard needle to thread audio. We all could have been very fucked up like as you know. It was probably more likely that that would have been the case in the not but she just she was like I am going to make sure that you guys get an education and I'm GonNa make sure that you have a roof over your heads and I'm GonNa make sure that I do whatever I need to do. In order to keep you safe in order to make sure that you have an opportunity to live out your your dreams and your best life. I'll show you. I actually just took a picture your podcast. Here's can't see this because that's not how podcasts were while describe it in great I'll show you just when I went home to Florida for my twentieth high school reunion and I took this. I was going through photo albums. Say Holy Shit. My mom was gorgeous. My Mom's still is beautiful wonderful but it was like a gorgeous woman a real peace and she was a real watcher fucking but look at this look at this. She's crazy cute. She get in there she he really really is gorgeous. She actually looks a lot like my oldest daughter. She looks like that actress. She cut her hair really short eventually. So so kill Ya. Yeah Oh was she on. She was on big love. Maybe Julie Andrews Ono. I talked about Jenny. Jennifer Goodwin Jennifer Apologize. No she was used beautiful. And but again as you get older right and you get a little more aware of the power of storytelling in your head or the store you're creating reading about your life and you realize like oh I did slap some people into some some archetypes good guy bad guy you know and maybe it wasn't entirely and like that's that's the thing is my mom rightfully so aided my dad after they got divorced and me being the youngest I was the recipient of all of that Adam and anger and so I- fucking like absorb that and yes he had got it really is a piece of shit. Oh Mama can't be the your your husband her mom not in again. The throes throws plutonic. Carriageway I I really did absorb a lot of that in there. You know not to sound sound cliche or not to sound like fucking needy but there were a lot of nights where I would wait at the window for a man who is Never GonNa come sure Shar Shar and I have vivid David Memories of that like my dad would be like. I'm coming to see you. He lived in Colombia which is where he worked which is a whole other podcast. We should do one time but you know he would say I'm coming home to visit you. I'm coming to see you and I would wait anxiously because I loved him so much year dubbed him and I wanted to be with him and then I'd get the call at like eleven eleven thirty at night. Oh I didn't make my flight and that takes toll but it also creates some resolve and I think in a lot of ways. I don't think that'd be sitting on this couch. Said Yeah my mom's story that she kind of She my mother was really really generous about not shit talking my dad. Even though she had a lot of he never paid. child-support didn't do anything. She addressed my brother and I up on Easter he had us for Easter. She dresses up in matching outfits. I had had chickenpox. It's the week before I'd gotten over it and my father's girlfriend of like six weeks. Her daughter hadn't had chicken pox yet and she was too nervous to have me around so he called cancelled. It didn't recuse up and my mom took a picture of us and mailed it to him said this is what you missed and she still has a pitcher and that's one of her ones where she's like. No I can't look this over six weeks kid. I know that shit adds up yet. She it adds up but great fuel. You said something earlier and a bunch of my friends and I who grew up without great father figures all sort of similarly found the same thing which is made us better dad's Like I made everything that I learned. I used used to make sure it would never happen again. Committing to be in the opposite of somebody can be really. Yeah Yeah and for me like that was the greatest lesson as just like okay. This is how I felt as a child growing up in a household where my parents just stood clearly were not member each other and seeing my father start a new family was so incredibly. Oh he did that. He did that while they were married. Oh my goodness like one of those cases hidden family. In fact I remember meeting my half brother. Six and a half seven and my dad's like I want to introduce you to somebody and took me to a hotel and was like. Hey what do you you think Mike. WHO's this boy? How old was he? He's like to. Oh my goodness okay. It was pretty traumatic. I was nervous. He was going to be like a year older. Yeah Yeah like a real at all happened. While he was still married did he have an occupation that lent itself to having a secret life like was he on the road salary Saleh he was in Emerald. No Shit Uncut gems uncut gems US essentially Adams allers Adam sandlers loosely. Plane gyms a bio pic about. Your father should know that bullshit. My Dad also talks the Josh. How can you have and call? Well I do some embrace. I'm not a very good impressions. I do I can't do anymore because they're all calm. Philip Seymour. I did a weekend we can. We could honor him. Am Let me let me introduce him for one. Second okay. Holy smokes man. You you've had such a career. I I mean when I saw twister I did not think. Oh this guy is gonNA end up being one of the greatest you know you know what I just WanNa say twister is probably the thing. I'm I'm.

"So Josh guess what we're doing. I have no clue. Okay we are calling strangers. We're we're calling strangers. Yeah Hello Hi Brittney. Yeah Hi Britney it's on affairs higher. Hi I'm here. With Josh Gad. Hybrid knee high. Josh Science. To Talk to you to talk to you. Tell us what's going on. Yes definitely absolutely. I think I'll start with a little bit of back story About my boyfriend and his daughter who is twenty years old. He received a phone call from a girl. He dated previously for about two months saying that she he was having a baby she was in the hospital and he was one of three guys who was up to be her father so of course he did the DNA tests. He got to be the lucky guy. Who is the Beautiful Little Girls Dad? And now it's eleven years later and I'm in the picture. I'm kind of like the stepmom figure to his daughter. She is unbelievable. She's just smart and Sassy me and funny and she's she's just everything she's my best friend and I've just had this. Absolute joy improved in this role for her and our relationship is just amazing and it gets stronger every today but there have been the negative factor in our lives of her mom. Unfortunately I guess the best way I can describe the situation as I'm really not sure if it's kind of like a jealousy thing or what. The problem is but basically what's been happening lately as her mama's said some really awful things about myself and my boyfriend and and things that are very untrue. She has called the police and made allegations against us which is completely crazy. Have actually come to me herself herself and said that I'm harassing her family which is completely untrue. They've never spoken to a single person in her family. And at the beginning things are fine. I was really supportive to her. I was overly kind and I made myself very available to her. She has four kids with different. DADS so I know. It's a hard situation for her and I just always try to do. My best for are my boyfriend's daughter so we took her to Disney for her tenth birthday and we take it to do with all the time and we have our fifty percent of the time so we're always busy and always spending a lot of time together and getting to know each other more and more but as we develop this relationship it almost becomes more and more negative on that side. So there's just a lot of awful things being said about myself self and about my boyfriend and with the police involved and it's just gotten to a point now where I just don't know what to do to deal with it anymore. I've astor stop contacting me. It has kind of worked for about a month but I know that it never really lasts with her. So I'm Kinda looking for some advice on the co-parenting side of things and how you develop that relationship with someone who doesn't really want to develop it back with you in just kind of wants to almost assassinate your character Britney. What does your boyfriend and just think about all of this whole scenario? I mean 'cause it seems crazy but what does he think when we started dating. He told me about her and actually his daughter also like I said maybe I should meet your mom. She said No. I don't want you to meet her and I said why. And she said because she ruins everything and to me. I'm just like okay nine like you're being dramatic. She can't be that bad and my boyfriend said like no. It's been bad with the custody stuff. Everything has been really really bad. And just I've never encountered anybody like like her before. Like I don't have kids myself. I'm thirty two. I was single for like six years just working out my career and that's basically what I focused my life on for a really long time is just career and got my job in my home and you know I really developed who I was the person. And he's very supportive of me and everything I do in my life ace and he just told me to kind of ignore it but I'm kind of a person who wants people to like me. I want to be peaceful. I want it to be happy like I come from parents who are split up and have step parents on both sides and it's always been really loving and kind even though my parents don't necessarily like each other so I thought that that's what would develop but it just has not this confrontation feels like it's between the two of you when there should be also the conversation of your boyfriend. I'm I'm curious about how your boyfriend is dealing with it. Yeah because this shouldn't be on your shoulders. I don't think I don't know no. And you know he was very very involved like it in the first six months or so that we are dating. I never spoke to her. I never saw her actually. The first time I saw her was picking his daughter from school. And she kind of ambushed me a little bit but it was fine like I think. I almost shocked her without crying. I was to her facebook Blake. I think she was expecting it to be more drama. Filled or something but in my boyfriend is like the most supportive wonderful man I've ever met in my life like he is. He's amazing but he told me from the beginning what it was like and he says we know you can make your choice of what kind of relationship you WanNa have. What's her he's like for me? I just co parent with her and that is because there's honestly no talking to her and I've seen the way she speaks extent when it comes to like texting and stuff. She's really cruel constantly telling him he doesn't know how parents just these things that she throws out. That are really awful and then on top of that ah has called the police and reported him as a drug dealer. She called the police about a month ago and reported myself as a prostitute. She like so. I had to get interviewed by the police at two thirty in the morning. I'm sorry yeah like it's crazy and that's the thing for me. That is so hard as if I was dealing with somebody that you know like one of my friends. So I've seen teamed. I've seen them jealous and I've seen them angry. And I've seen you know women at back kind of state before but I never encountered anybody like her before it's just it's above and beyond beyond it's a above and beyond. She reported me once for kidnapping her daughters. I wasn't even in the same city as her daughter at the same time. I don't know what to do with it anymore and I still just ignore those things I was like just nice all leave and I constantly teaches daughter that if you're kind to people at the end of the day when you walk away from a situation you have nothing to feel bad about. You have nothing to worry about. You were kind you kept your head and you can keep your head up because of that. But I'm having a hard time now. Sorry of course you are. I hope that your hardener has your back with this. Although I do think that your future daughter that her mom is clearly going through a lot and so how you guys negotiate those waters. I I think that that's kind of I don't know if it should be your job. Is that crazy about trying to how I've been feeling. It sounds sounds to me like you've gone above and beyond and I think that you are providing this young lady with an incredible example of what affection affection and love should look like you know I question some of the choices that her mom is making I think for from what I'm hearing on his right. You have to navigate this with your boyfriend and see just how committed you guys are to maintaining a working relationship. Obviously not with his his daughter which I think is incredibly important. It sounds like for her wellbeing that you guys are in our life but navigate this in terms of barriers that you put up with the mom because it sounds to me like she's trying intentionally to stir up trouble and based on what you said has a history of doing so so you know. I think that you guys have to decide. Just how much you want to wade into the craziness with her and put up potential barriers. So that she doesn't necessarily we have that access to you guys to get you constantly in trouble for what reason. I don't know that that's what I would say. Yeah you sound sounds amazing by the way and you. I think that this this young lady is very lucky to have you in her life. It sounds like exactly the kind of figure that she needs. I appreciate that but I definitely work really hard to try and be good for her and I try not to say you know awful things and I don't want to ever speak poorly about her. Mom that's not contention and like I'm at a point now where the pair of them are just everything to me and I wanNA spend my time in my life with them. But there's these threats almost you know like the the police and stuff like that. And I've now told her His daughter not to repeat the mean things that are said because her mom was calling me names of course and insulting my body and you know just things that are so unnecessary. But there's little things like you know. She told her daughter that she was going to make sure I lost my job. You know because she knows that's how I provide and she she knows that that's what's important to me and it's just these things that are really scary and it's almost like bullying as middle. I've had that in the workforce I work in a kind of a male dominated industry. But I've never had it like this before and I never in trouble with the law. So it's like really crazy for me. Gosh okay as we Britney so jade will grow up and you'll understand things in a way that like she can't right now but the more important thing I think is keeping you safe safe and how your partner protects you. Yes he definitely does. What because this does feel like.

I'm questioning why she requires two meals like is she bringing it to like a vampire that she's harboring at home like what's it's strange. It's a strange thing to be like. I'll take it to dinners one for me and one for an unspoken reason for after after. I'm done with you here anyway. We have to do a little Improv. All right so you're Josh. If you WANNA be Josh. I'd like to uncomfortable with my. Here's where you're at. Have you been to the site in place. Oh haven't we all okay ready. Yes okay you can have to think the quickly on your feet about what. Move your shooting. Okay got it and you're at the bar at the Gerard Room someplace so you need to know okay got it. Oh my God. That was the crazy. Oh my God wait a minute weird. You're during that show where it's like everybody the book of Mormon and yeah. It's it's I I wouldn't call it crazy so much as it was job that I did that. Felt very nice so cool though thank you. So what are you doing. You're shooting. Yeah that's yeah. That's yeah I'm doing a live action reboot of the rescuers this down under this sequel. We feel like it lends itself to learn how to scuba dive. And so or no. Have you seen the movie. Rescuers Chris Down Under the Old Disney movie with the little mice. There's no like real scuba diving. Not even a scene that really lends itself to so we in James Bond. Become an actor right. I'm getting that vibe from you for sure but also I really admire you thank you. Yeah they were really really elitist. I respect you too. So what is there any way you want to go and go on getting back to you being an actor I would maybe think about other stuff too so appreciate your advice. Thank you hugh. Okay how did you handle your first teenage break-up I handled being broken up with fairly well I would think I like third grade. Fifth Fifth Grade. Yes fifth grade was the first time I ever dated dated whatever that means like we were dropped this we did kiss. My first kiss appeals crazy. My first kiss was at sleep away. Camp who yeah with a girl named Danielle. I wonder if she's listening to your podcast right. I just suon apologize because I think I used way too much teeth at the time and I didn't know what I is. Banged teeth was a lot of mouth. Percussion and now. Oh you're better at guessing. I think so I hope so. It's less teeth Moreton. Yes it's a lot less teeth a lot more tongue and more passion at at the time it was like a lot of breath support like I thought you may have to hold your breath and just bang from that was like the act of kissing impressed that at fifth grade I didn't get my I guess Titus Tireless Sixteen. I remember the song to the song that was playing with all songs. Yeah was I touch myself by the finals. Which is a weird song view Berkshire at it like a Jewish in the Blue Ridge mountains but that was the song that was trying to see and at the time I was just like? Oh Oh this is like a cool thing about somebody who really loves their body but not realizing that. It's a song about masturbation like not really putting that together. That was my first kiss. Not Miss. Her Daniel Churning out. Are you out there. Can I ask you about an embarrassing moment. Thank onstage a few yes I do really yes. I was on stage in the book of Mormon and I was very perturbed by an audience member celebrity. who was very ill behaved in the audience and I was getting fucking pissed watching them? I'M NOT GONNA mention names. There were in the show entourage Raj and I'm not GonNa say who it was. It was the lead And so I got really annoyed and and I was like thinking of what I could do what I can improve or what I could say in doing that. I lost my train of thought. Was this person doing. I don't want to shame them but they were but they were being very very like inappropriately distracting in the second row and so I was just like fuck this dude I. It was a man and I completely not only forgot the line but I forgot the English language V.. Importance of this. Is that the line that I was supposed to say leads into a song without the line setup. This song can up again and I don't know if you've ever had this moment where all you hear. Here's ing where like you just have like symptoms of tonight is in your ears. But that's what happened and I literally were shouting the line to me Stephen Arenas in the pit. The conductor was shot in the line at me. I couldn't hear this stage manager. Were shouting the line from offs. I couldn't hear now. Finally I look at my co star and I go what this is the brilliance of Improv skills. What the fuck am am? I supposed to say as the only thing that I think of that you have to understand contractually. If you've seen the book of Mormon the person that I asked this too is an African villager jour-.

"Hey everyone today's guest is the brilliant and amazing Josh Gad who you might know from the book of Mormon the Voice of Olaf in frozen one and two and a million other things. We were lucky. Josh was able to fit in between press commitments. I knew. HBO Series Avenue Five. Before we begin I want to read a couple of your letters the first from Laura to Jerry who we called with Pignataro and here it is I just finished listening to the episode with tag and Jerry Situation sounded very similar to my own only from the other side. I'm recently married to my complete opposite and we now have an extremely stable relationship but for the longest time it was trial trial after trial. I am very introverted. And often couldn't handle her boisterous personality. While she enjoyed our deeper conversations she was mostly interested in gossip Amore. Shallow topics topics that I couldn't stand. It didn't take me long to realize how different we were and how different she was from WHO. I always imagine my perfect partner to be as lonely as I was. At the time it was disheartening. For me to think of settling for someone less than perfect I liked her but we had innumerable differences and our fair share personal growth to experience. agreeance before I could see us. As a long-term couple after several rough patches over a few years we split up and moved away but we always inexplicably missed each other after plenty of time spent his friends and a lot of personal growth. We decided to give it another chance. It wasn't until it took the time to love understand and appreciate her differences that I could find true no interest even though I used to think of us as temporary now that I have fully embraced our differences. I can't imagine a more interesting and fulfilling relationship. This isn't to say David Jerry should stay with him. It's up to his boyfriend to want to change and learn how they can embrace their differences and work together but if anything can save the relationship. I'd say it's genuine the effort to understand and respect each other through open and honest communication. After all it's differences in unique experiences that make the world an interesting place to be best. Laura Laura. Thank you so much Laura. That is such great advice. I really believe that honors communication is one of the most important things in any relationship. It's also the answer to most relationship Jason Ship Providence. And it feels so good to really know someone and let someone really know you. This next letter is from Taylor to Dana. Who we called with Melissa views on your I was in a relationship for eight years and the same thing happened to me? I've got to tell you it did not work out for me. No matter how hard I try an old man I I did. It ended up causing so many more issues in our relationship than I could have ever imagined if he doesn't get professional help or at least try to move forward with the problem in the bedroom. Other problems we'll start to show up. I'm no professional. But a lot of the rage that started to stir within him came from the fact that he couldn't perform sexually in. This caused a lot of unnecessary arguing anger anger from his end. I tried to be as therapist but that was the wrong move. He promised he'd seek help but didn't suggest no and speak openly to him. You can't be the one to fix this issue. He has to do this willingly for himself. This is something that could really escalate. I hope the best for you guys truly. Good Luck Love Taylor. Thank you so much Taylor and thank you dear listeners. I really love how much you care about each other. I love your honesty and former ability a love your strength. I'm working on that too. Okay and now. Here's Hughes Josh Gap.

"I walk out and I look at the guy who went for for me and I go. Congratulations you've got the job walkout. Go back to my hotel start crying. Screw this Blah Blah Blah Blah. I got a call from my agent and she goes so James has left to tickets for you to see spelling bee which I hadn't seen because I couldn't afford a ticket and I go. Why on Earth will I WANNA go see spelling bee? She goes because he figures. You should probably see it before you take over in two weeks come on and that was it. I think he was testing me and I respect that now because I was like if felt traumatic but like he wanted to see if I had the nerve to take on this thing which was replacing. This guy who was about to be a breakout star and I really you really look back on that and I feel like that was the moment when it got easier when I actually felt like okay. This could work. I could make a living as an actor and you can trace it back to your mom because she could have said law schools great. We support Yup good luck. It's about time I've been waiting for this call. I need be a failure. Thank God you're getting to your senses time to open those logbook yeah. I don't know how you handle that phone. Call thinking you're crying here hotel room it's over. I've totally blown my Broadway break to start in two weeks. WCHS like for us. This phone call then I started going through. Oh my God what if I am a fraud what am I gonNA take go through all that and had had like an amazing. Yeah before I let you go I just saved this to the to the end of the interview because you pulled out a knife. If now Hawk openly about this starring role that I had sixteen hundred Penn.. Oh my God I had eh. That's when the show's ratings downhill. That's when we lost our audience. Some critics say that was. The moment was the moment that was that that was a funny show. I'm going to show and you were spectacular. I do you did it up. Todd it did it. Yeah it was a WHO's who of NBC employees we were on the screen I think in the Oval Office guys. We're watching the developments in the news with resident president. Do you remember who wrote that. Show love it John Lovett. Yeah now I'd say America the Great John Lovett. The great not Jon Lovitz from Saturday night live different different different. John's leather done of it. You were terrific. I didn't work out but that was a funny show us. Sometimes timing isn't right or the the criticism of the show was there would never be a buffoon like this in the White House. It just you may eat and on that Alexander Hamilton. Not Thank you together and on Broadway. Incredible thanksgiving that was great. Thank you my big. Thanks external truly great guy. Josh Gad. For that conversation you can catch his new show avenue five every Sunday at ten p. m. on HBO. And I'm joined now on the Sunday. Sit Down and podcast by the producer of the Sunday. Sit Down podcasts Maggie law so I do some explaining about sixteen hundred Penn.. What happened there? I realized I didn't really explain what that was. So it was a short lived. NBC's series. I WanNa say it was eight or nine years ago okay. Josh was the star. He played the son of the president of the United States. So they live at sixteen hundred presidential comedy and he was sort of the buffoonish son. In like the Chris Farley Tommy Boy Spirit for it and there was one episode where they needed news coverage of something So Joe Meakin I for morning Joe recorded a scripted bit I love it. And they all sat in the Oval Office and watched a short time later. After I think thirteen fourteen episodes the show Let's say it went away. And so I just wanted to know how much Josh blamed demise and sixteen hundred on the shell was possibly the morning. Joe And by the way the Dijon Lovett that he mentioned in our interview was speech writer for President Obama and then created that. Show Harry cool so I like to explain everything after it's already been discussed hope that clarifies. That's super helpful. So I'm not ashamed to admit it I love me some Josh Gad. Great Dude such a funny guy And his show is so funny. I know you watched an episode. I watched a couple episodes. He talked about Armando IANNUCCI. WHO also created veep? Great this show and I feel like watching that if you love veep you're GonNa Love Avenue and I do love the and I mean I love that Lake Quick Radi Banter I mean it's got the whole outer space like it'd be concept. Sounds especially when I I listen to this conversation. It didn't sound like funny as it is. And then you watch it. And his Herman Judd character I mean the whole thing thing is just hilarious. Yeah I mean it's it's perfect is such a delightful jackass on the show. I say that as a as a great compliment It was fun to talk to him about frozen too because you know he was a respected and funny and relatively well known actor but that just changed. Everything joked about the Gulf of merchandise index. Money got merged I keep buying those backpacks boys only housed. Yeah then it could have known as would be that big to be the two highest grossing Animated Movies of all time. That's Kinda crazy. I loved what he said about his daughters to. He's like they. I mean they think it's cool. I was in evidence really bragging rights like Oh can I tell that person with the airport that is out is. Don't tell the bags not allowed to do that. You know he embraces it. And he's smart too. I remember when the first frozen came out I was hosting the today. Today's show and he just and my daughter was like six or something like that and they like his really into it and he just took my phone and voiced a message to them. It was used to that request. But he's like he's not like Oh yeah it's been crazy. He's serious thing that's ever happened. If you're part of the children film like that and especially when the effect on people turned into a musical talking one. Now it's you sort of have to be. I mean when you read Kristen ballots. Same thing they and they you know. She's like this has changed people's lives and people come up to us and they say oh meaningful it's been so they know and I feel like you know he goes along just great and then I have to say it was cool. We'll just to be Inbar Centrale. I've heard the legend of that place. You've almost done several of these. There were years ago but to finally get into the room must have been pretty cool. You can't just walk up and be like Highwood. Let's see which Broadway phenomenon starring you starring answer. Unfortunately for me is none but I love how he ended the interview saying the the reason he wants to come back to Broadway get back into that person all makes sense and I cannot blame him. It was a great conversation station. My thanks again to Josh Maggie. Thank you and thank all of you as.

"For a while. I was going to come back and do a funny thing happened on the way to the form and I still hold out hope the the time the right time comes to scheduling thing. But I but I want to. I really do do it. You might be able to get a table back here again. When that's why I WANNA do in for an interview Louis really need to do a Broadway show so that I can have dinner here? There's really no other incentive. Well here's my segue. Yeah you might be able to get a table after people see Avenue Five. That was a great value. You pay television moderate moderate around. Yeah well I I will tell you that avenue. Five is the most insane thing I've ever been apart breath it's it's so he's such a brilliant satirist Armando Armando IANNUCCI. Having worked with again again. That's why you do big interviews because you know people's testing you and you sixteen the answers but but working with getting my start art with John Stewart on the daily show and then working with Trey and Matt a Book Mormon and now Armando on avenue. Five it's a masterclass in satire and what Does what he does so brilliantly whether it's veep or death of Stalin is he finds such a human way in right so that you can't help laugh half because you understand the truth in all of these characters and all the relationships having five is literally a show set in space forty years in the future with this insane trillionaire named Herman Judd at the center of it. WHO's created this giant floating Phallus ship called Avenue Five and Y? You know the first episode of the show plays out like act three of the titanic. Hi Tantric and then everything goes downhill from there. And I've likened the show to Lord of the flies in space right. It's like Lord of the flies by way of Gilligan's island because it's it's really fundamentally about the breakdown of society in a bubble it's about all of the anxiety that we have as humans. It's about all of the fear we have of what happens in social norms and a class system no longer reflects that which we've been taught right so what happens when you're on a ship and you're supposed to go on a trip grip on a luxury trip for a couple of weeks and then it becomes a couple of months and then it becomes a couple of years. What do you do what what does what what does it mean to be a captain if you no longer care to respect your captain because you're stranded what does it mean to be in the service industry and have to to change bedsheets one? You know that you're not going to get paid for another few years at the very earliest so it's really about that breakdown and it's it's it's so funny because you have these people in a bubble in the bubble's about to burst. There's nowhere for them to go. There's nowhere for them to go there trapped opt so you play her in Judd. Yes who again while. You're such a great nephew. He's doing all this without any notes. Three sang names without notes. teleprompter teleprompter beautiful is and. He's remembering all the information that he read before interviewed. It's hard not to get lost in the choir. Some extra focus. Thank you Got New York City tap water ice water and tastic but yes I believe Herman judge he's so he Forgive me as a bit of an idiot I forgive you he is. He's very rich and I see so many real life modern turn tell me where together talk a little bit about it. So it's cheating okay. There's obviously some Branson physically that the hair Brenton yes. There's there's you know there's sort of the Alon vicious and we can do anything you know. Wouldn't you know what he's really based on he's based on so so i. There's a type of twenty-first-century entrepreneur which is the sort of get rich. Quick Scheme Entrepreneur people like Billy McFarland right created fire festival. People like Elizabeth home created theranos. They're great salespeople even though they don't have a product necessarily worthy of salad and they're able to convince people to give them a bunch of money for an idea that doesn't doesn't even exist. That's who judd is an extension of. I fear that the evolution or devolution of that type of entrepreneur is eventually going to be a Herman Judd like person so the the basis for the Hairdo for instance was based on this anecdote that I read that Elizabeth homes bought these mock turtlenecks in bulk that Steve jobs away to give that sense of I am the next Steve Jobs so I thought it would be great if Herman Judd went to a hairstylist. And said give me the Branson so that's right. He's got this Blonde Mane. We should say that in their own ways. Richard Branson any lawn muskrat genius and Herman Judd is not is not not a not. There's a distinction there. There is a distinction there. Having having said that do you necessarily need to be qualified to be in a position of power right like you know the. Do you need to be qualified. If I to be president of the United States do you need to be qualified to be The head of a major corporation. I don't know I don't know that we're we're headed is is necessarily a great place based on Based on anything other than popularity or based on anything other than this idea of he's got got enough charisma to lead so give him the job. So it's sort of in amalgamation of all of those ideas and and the truth is I fear Mark. It's not that far out of the realm of possibility to have an entrepreneur like this with thousands of lives in the balance with the other great representation in the show of that serve. Death of expertise is the captain himself your played by Laurie. WHO's just genius? Wish I could give away. Why because because immediately becomes clear? What's going on here again? Great Journalism he's holding back secrets that he must because we sent him the information before and he knows not to reveal it. Because we call that a spoiler spoiler alert in our industry. Oh Man I hope this interview airs. You're doing great. It'll be reviewed by legal some of IT A- At the end of the first episode it becomes clear that things aren't what they yeah that he's he looks the part Kalinka go. ooh Captain Sully reassuring. Right speak to the you know the travelers and the people on the ship but it all comes crumbling down very quickly all comes crumbling. Lean down I mean the the show really is about. It's to some extent. Facades is about this like this idea of what we put out not necessarily necessarily reflecting the truth of what's actually happening. The ship itself is just gold gilded nonsense but the actually like beating heart of the ship is not cry. Like it's where you actually see it. You're like Oh that looks rough and I think that that kind of represents infrastructure itself it represents sort of like this idea that lake we're building walls and we're doing all these fancy things but fundamentally we're not dealing with what's at the core of the issues that were right needing to deal with as a society right so again as only are Mondo can do. It's a reflection of all of that. So what is the Armando thing for people who don't know know it when they see it maybe they watch veep and I go. I know what that is. And they're gonNa see if you love veep you'll love this show. Yeah just based on the comedy the pace of things but I was telling you beforehand. There are a couple jokes in there that I can tell already. You're going to become running jokes and every time I see it something that could be a throwaway one time it gets ear. And he's sort of like burrowing into some of these jokes what is the Armando thing. So I think it's a couple of things I think for one thing are Mondo like no other is a great chess player in any plays along. Game this series begins. Act Three of the titanic and then goes from bad to worse to unthinkable really quickly and what happens is you're getting getting a feel for the breakdown of society but by the end of the season you really start to understand exactly the card. The hand that he's playing. I think that the thing that that makes his comedy so unique is the rhythm. The Banter yourself is very unique. Style is very unique. It's it's sort of like a kind of has a British the quality to it right. The other thing is the truth in human relationships that he seems to tap into We all know versions Asians of these people right. You know so even though it's a show that takes place in space forty years in the future. There's still a couple that are hanging being on by a thread because because their marriages in disarray those issues are still relevant. Forty years from now just as it were forty two years ago. So he sort of finds in taps into this thing that speaks to all of us on a greater level he he loves tackling big themes that I don't think others necessarily have the nerve to tackle or necessarily the nuance just to tackle so well it feels like Oh this is just a big space comedy. It's really not. It's a comedy set forty years in the future in outer space he's meant to reflect on earth in the present meant to reflect our unease and our uncertainty with what we're dealing with the rise of populism. This idea that things aren't going the way we want to. And we can't control those things and so we want to break free free of that. All of those things are threaded into this comedy called Avenue Five that is an outer space adventure and that stuff. I hi thanks are Don's on you as you watch because you're at the beginning you're caught and that was a hilarious joke Bhagwat Great. Your hair is funny and then you realize there's something else we were talking. We were talking earlier earlier about the delay. There is a twenty second delay on the ship and actor bacteria without ruining anything part of the reason why they get into into trouble is because my character is so arrogant that he thinks he can throw money at what is impossible to achieve based as on the laws of physics. He cannot get the delay but he's making them try to do that. I think we see that playing out today. In our political landscape we see people trying to throw money and things that issues without actually dealing with the issue itself and and so even something like that that on the surface just seems like running gag has a much bigger purpose to it so in your career right now in something like this comes at your anything comes at you how are you evaluating. It is. Is it as simple simple as Oman does doing another show. I WANNA be a part of that. I love the death of Stalin. I WANNA do that. How do you sort of analyze all the things that come away at this point? I'm blessed blessed enough to have the opportunity to chase things based on the kinds of people that I really WanNa work with. You know an opportunity came up to work work with Kenneth Branagh jumped at it. An opportunity comes up to work with somebody like are Mondo you jump at it You respond to great scripts you respond to great filmmakers and then you hope for the best and expect the worst but you hope for the best and sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't you never know But with with our Mondo Oh you know that you're at least betting on someone who has the potential for greatness. Hey guys thanks for listening to the Sunday sit down podcast stick around hear more from Josh Gad. After the break. If you don't know your numbers you don't Know Your Business. "Episode of The Sunday. Sit Down podcast. My thanks as always for clicking and listening along on very excited again and this week about our guest. He's not only one of the best guys in Hollywood funniest guys in Hollywood. His name is Josh Gad. He became a star. I in the book of Mormon the Broadway sensation that still running there right now. He played elder Cunningham. That really put him on the map and then of course his life exploded in two two thousand thirteen when he was the voice of Olaf in frozen be lovable Snowman Olaf film that made more than a billion dollars in the sequel that that just surpassed it. I think it's like one point. Three billion dollars now is frozen to my man is a box office draw. He's also a new show on. Hbo A hilarious series from the same people. Who brought you veep? It's called Avenue five and it's set forty years in the future it's about a luxury jury cruise ship for space tourism. So it's a spaceship forty years in the future. And he plays this guy named Herman Judd. Who you'll hear about him as Josh and I talk? He's an idiot. I'll just say that he's a billionaire buffoon. He's a combination of all these young billionaires that. We've you've seen these arrogant young billionaires in our culture kind of mashes a bunch of them together some of them with respect others with disdain. He'll walk through that he's a guy who can do a lot. He's is a really funny guy. He was in beauty and the beast and other billion dollar movie he was in jobs. The movie about Steve Jobs. He plays Steve Wozniak in that film. He can do a lot hysterical guy and he brought me to a place. As you'll hear I could never get in on my own. It's sort of a speakeasy in New York's Theater district. It's called bar. Centrale control you Kinda gotta be on the list type of thing and he talks about growing up idolizing all these actors and actresses and then when book of Mormon blew up in two thousand eleven and two thousand twelve. He was in the club and he got to go. Sit At these tables and look over and see his heroes like Philip Seymour Hoffman and Stephen Sondheim and all these incredible actors that like I said he had idolized his entire life and then he fell. Oh my gosh. I'm in the club. Thanks to book of Mormon I think it really enjoy our conversation tation right now on the Sunday sit down podcast inside bar Centrale with Josh Gad. Here it is. What's the significance of this place to you? The the significance of this places I lost bet and couldn't afford this would have been my apartment. Had it not turned into a speakeasy restaurants. The truth is I couldn't get in here without you. You really couldn't end the other. Truth is as you couldn't get in here with me. I would come here pretty much every the weekend after I did book of Mormon. Its who's who of incredible musical theater Folk Martin Short it would be at a table you would see the late. Philip Seymour Hoffman. On any given night you would see Liza Minelli Nathan Lane and it's just one of those places where I think. It was the first time that I actually felt like. Oh I belong in this community So it was amazing now. Not so much When I come in they should go back to Hollywood to Hollywood pretty all the time they all screen green pretty boy? Oh Man I'm like damn guys gravitate this I'm with Gad to clearly. It's very busy right now. So we're going to have difficult so after we took a stroll around the dining room and Josh assured me that I would never ever get into that place without him at my side and his great celebrity. We sat down for a conversation about his new series avenue. Five and a lot more so we've already come in. You know this was a great entrance was express entrance so I thought it felt like it evoked a lot of those like you know old sort of like sixty minutes style. Entrances is or a psych. We're about to reveal some really important about the tobacco industry and Josh Gad and Mike Wallace and the it you don't know what's going to come through that curtain is it usually more crowded. This is very it's about can only service service about two people but you get the best service. Imagine into yet. Here's the the actual truth about this place is it's not crowded it's to put it. All the seats are taken. But that's that's why it's so hard to get in because they don't want to be a scene is you'll sit in a booth and you look behind you and they'll be Stephen Zahn Heim You know so it's it's pretty amazing and the energy especially because when you're done with to show especially he you have so much adrenaline you have all of this energy that wants to go somewhere and to come in sort of share combat stories From that day or just in general. It's always so nice to be with like minded folks who've All sort of had that day. It's got to be like I guess if you're in the room you're in the club. What can you walk up to Stephen Sondheim? I can totally up to Stephen Sondheim. And he won't know who I am and I'll say I'm such a Fan Ryan Jose. Okay completely make except you at the time. Where the hottest show on Broadway that is true? You were Sondheim. Actually actually was a huge fan of book of Mormon He. He is obsessed with Matt. He actually it Matt and Trey when men trae wrote South Park Stephen Even Sondheim at the time called it the best musical decade and added that he loves Cherry Matt incredible so he would recognize inlet at the C.. I never had the courage to do it but there were there. Were certain people that I would approach. But but you know you just you feel like you're part of of theater royalty. I the first time ever came to New York. The first show I ever saw was fiddler on the roof and I remember watching Topol on stage play this iconic character Tabio and I remember thinking to myself man. I want to do that so badly. Wounded I WANNA be a part of. I'M GONNA be to quote Limon Wilmer at. I want to be in the room where it happens and that lake feeling of finally being there and and like walking among idols. I want it to be Nathan Lane growing up. And then you're sitting and Nathan Lane is right behind Nathan now. He's here now but he's bright by you. So that feeling was something that I just. I think the pride that I was able to take take especially in that yearbook of Mormon was really something special and that went from zero to one hundred pretty quickly that hit Broadway and people like what is this show and then it was the only thing we didn't you know. Usually you would do an out of town. Tryout you would go off Broadway. They were went all in. I have to admit this now. It's embarrassing to say. I felt the show is gonNA close in three months really. I was like these shows. Two hundred virtual for Broadway possibly accept it. We're we're saying all sorts of things things that are not really going to fly with the blue hair eight-year-old crowd and this weird thing happened. Where we I remember our first preview and it was full theater and then the next stay there was a lottery line outside? And there's like fifty people waiting outside and I was like no that's interesting and then the second day there were suddenly a hundred people waiting outside by the fifth day of that week we had about five hundred hundred people standing outside of this theater that had a for show that had opened all word of mouth suddenly being like. I have to go see what they're doing in that that space so it was pretty surreal. I see a lot of Broadway the only thing I can compare it to is Hamilton Hamilton. Were recently right tone off awful. Both doing in terms of like a phenomenal phenomenal in that moment book of Mormon was and you had to get tickets and hard to get and they're expensive and Brian old guy to get into the show. So what was it like to be at the center of a phenomenon walking out of the stage door and they're huge crowds waiting for you and everything else it was it was so surreal. I you know I remember going to see the producers when it was at the height and it was like a the similar thing of like you had until I beg borrow and steal to get a ticket but that was two stars Nathan and Matt and Mel Brooks and this just the expectation. Wasn't there so suddenly. You have a show called the book of Mormon. This is very strange name for anything. But especially a Broadway musical and you're you're you're suddenly sitting there and you're looking at in the audience. He see Tom Hanks. And you see Bondo and you see elect Steven Tyler are and you see like politicians and you see like everybody any just. You're looking around and you're just pinch yourself going this realize la is really happening And and you know to the very end I just had this feeling of. I'll never be a part of something like this again. It's just it's a once in a lifetime experience. Are you the kind of actor because interview. Ben Platt a couple of months ago to see deer. Evan Hansen and he said he had to to know before the show that she was there because of us in the middle of a big song looks down. There's Dante everything shuts down. That happened to me three times. I got distracted. When Oprah was in the audience audience? I got distracted when Bano is in the audience because I actually put on a pair of Sunglasses in book of Mormon and Knbr I am just like Bondo and and I remember being like Oh God I have to sing to Bono as Bata this very surreal and then the third one is surprising but he was my idol and that was gene wilder. Oh I remember seeing gene in the audience and and thinking to myself. This is probably going to end up being the proudest moment of my life The other one was my very final performance. Another idol of mine Philip Seymour. Hoffman was at the show and afterwards came up to me and he said he's my Philip. Seymour Hoffman President. Goes you really really really good like really good and it was like that. Is The coolest thing anybody's said doing is like we should do something together and sadly we never got to but like that experience of being able to have the guy that you think is the greatest actor in the world. Come up to you and say something like that to you. We such great swansong for like to go out on is an amazing the power of those few words as a young actor young. Whatever you're doing if somebody look up to gives you that little bit incurred yes in such felt so real because he wasn't blowing smoke he wasn't saying you're amazing? It wasn't saying you're incredible. He was saying saying terms. That were legitimately like I respect you like I really respect what you did. And that and then the other one was Robin Williams who lived in my apartment building at the time. I was doing more than he was doing. Bengal tiger at the Baghdad zoo and we would come home from work. Work and Robin would just literally make me laugh and cry every night with an anecdote about the show. Oh and the day the apartment he would the apart over we would. We would basically show up into the lobby every night at the same time. And we just talk in the lobby And and then when he left he left me his bike and I didn't accept it. I was like Robin. Look at my body. You're you're wasting a bicycle I I'm gonNA stare at it. I'm not GonNa do anything really is. One of the great regrets of my life is that I didn't keep that bicycle from Robin Williams. The man that's amazing. I mean to be in this room with all those people must have been like this crazy. Validation of it really is even what you wanted to achieve. When you were a kid it really was and it? It's one of those things where you know this. This environment bridges the gap there. There's something very unique about Broadway Rodway once you're in that club us sort of in that club and so it's got this kind of historic significance to it. Because it's not just the Broadway community of today. It's the people who helped shift Broadway to where where it is now. It's the people who did all the hard work like facade Anaheim's of the world right like when they were alive candor. It's the ones who gave us the foundation on Dacian by which we could build things like book of Mormon like Hamilton deriving handsome. You know and I think it's a really exciting time right now especially in the world of musicals because you have all these young composers like Lynn like basketball and of course bobby and Chris did Mormon and bobby we did Avenue Q.. And and Frozen so it's it's it's a really cool time I think. Would you come back and do Broadway. You're busy man in a heartbeat. You you would in a heartbeat..

Michigan Football Chatter: Nico Collins and Donovan Peoples-Jones might come back to the team

"Niko Collins down of peoples' Jones there's a lot of rumors are some good vibes out there that both of these guys might come back after treat black just announced late last week that he was he was going to enter the transfer portal and of any schools have been associated with him yeah I know a lot of people started following him on Twitter but in that same vein nickel Collins and down hills Jones some reports out there that here they would like to come back for their senior year Zack and if you've heard anything like that but what we'll talk about here is if they get both of them back what that could mean for Michigan football in two thousand twenty means a lot right it's ME builder baby to their their five most dangerous players on the team L. Collins actually played up to statistically people Jones I thought was big in some key spots but maybe didn't find it I mean that's that's what it came down to is their draft grade we just we're going over the CVS draft maybe we did it during a break instead of on the show but calling the people Jones were what fourth and fifth round picks I don't yeah I was surprised by how low they were you know I'm a big I'm a big believer in go when someone will pay you because you know life is short in the NFL but at same time you're twenty twenty one and you come back and improve your stock yeah I I'd say more power to you because you have that opportunity will be interesting to see what they actually do because I think it would be a testament to what they believe the quarterback passing game situational be like next year if they think that they can move up in the draft with another year what I don't know someone asked me on Twitter you know what they could they wait until the fifteen ball practices are done and get a feel for Joh Milton or don't McCaffrey and I would bet that at this point they they probably know I mean either one of these guys is supposed to get the starting job in the bowl game I mean they're going to go out there and treat this like the final game of two thousand nineteen not the first came in two thousand twenty and preparing themselves for next year and so you know if they don't know already what what Joh Milton until McCaffrey are I don't think that's gonna change and bull crap here but I do agree with you I I do think that is a a kind of a connection to this if you decide to come back you're not coming back if you think like man V. the quarterback room and the passing game is gonna regress considerably here because all you're really come back for is if you think that the last three or four games when they were both being targeted you know six and seven times a game and have an opportunity to catch five balls a game if that's consistent what's gonna be next year now you can put up those bigger numbers now you can catch the eye of more scouts and so yeah I would think that be a very positive sign for mission of both those guys come back for the quarterback room and also for obviously the wide receivers I mean we're already you know everybody's really excited about Ronnie bell and the rise of Josh Jackson like senior still you had these two guys in there and what you know that I mean if you're Joe motor Joe McCaffrey said yourself like all like you know we're in the red zone I'm I have a tough time finding open perceiver Hey I can just check the ball to the corner nickel counts gonna go get it how much is that help a young quarterback my goodness yeah in the end they can get better still I don't think it's out of the question that in how people Jones and Colin they missed a lot of spring practice they missed a lot of summer practice I I don't know their health situation I don't I don't know enough but I imagine it would be healthier this year could be and then you build that chemistry bill that report and players get better I a you know it's everyone gets better different speeds but I always laugh when people are like yeah I've heard enough about such and such improving no players improve when they play college football for a long time that's why a lot of you know there's not too many freshmen who are the best players in the country you start to see it more now but usually it's the juniors and then the easy casual senior but it's it's the it's a big deal it would be it would significantly pollster Michigan's offense of potential it would raise some questions because you how do you use them do you still go pass first even if you're changing quarterbacks but I think it would be a net positive for Michigan some players should not come back there are some players and more so in other teams that I notice in Michigan where they come back in it and I think both sides kind of regret it because there's not a lot of you know it's a you're you're thinking about the NFL too much or the chemistry is off with some of your new teammates I think both of these guys I mean if they're if they're said to come back I think it's a it's a big win for Michigan Brandon if if these guys come back amber Thomas is expected to come back we pay last night at the show me awards said that he expects to come back if all these guys that could have I know we look at this list last week I think it was on your hosting day the six players who are all eligible to go pro all of them came back does that saying anything about what they think Michigan football could be in two thousand twenty yeah I think that's fair I mean are you know if they've got a chance well some of it does come down to the whole draft great thing too I mean if these guys are thinkin of animal finally you know realize my dream and go pro and then they get a draft grade back of like fourth or fifth round that might be a little bit of a you know a little bit of a blow to the ego and also just a just a dose of reality like okay I'm not me maybe I'm not quite as good as I thought and I can prove it I can prove that I am better than this by coming back so I think it's there's probably several factors but I certainly think that's one of a might like these guys want to win they're not gonna come back if they think they're going to be worse than they were this year that they have no chance of meeting Ohio state or that they have no chance of possibly making it to the playoffs like I think that certainly factors in this is big time college football they came to Michigan for a reason and they want to win and I certainly think that when you're as talented as Michael Collins and out of people's own our they're probably thinking like okay they could be pretty good next year and we come back we can be really good that maybe we like it also out of his car arrogance our confidence or cockiness or whatever you want but they know that they're making the team better so why not come back and try to take it to another level another year and Josh gad as a system from everything I've heard players tend to like Josh gad as I know he's pretty hard core on the sidelines he gets in guys faces but I think everybody also respects and he's a younger guy he's a really he's a really detail oriented coach I feel like he thinks players think that he's getting them better I think there's a lot to it but I don't I think I think it does speak to like where Michigan is a maybe wear those guys think they could be next year and I I think you got it I think you got a look between the lines a little bit and maybe realize it like they look there think in those two quarterbacks if you're pretty damn good we saw it we think with another year like it could be special with them I think that's got to be part of what they're thinking about yeah absolutely I mean if you can if if if you told me going Donovan Hey what we did the last three games we're gonna do that over twelve games next year and they had now have evidence and they can believe it and you've got some else tell you like Hey you're you're projecting great right now is third or fourth round I mean to me unless it's an easy decision because you're still given up you know some money but are you are you but you gotta put on the best position to be successful the next level and I think they'll be coming back see the reason the CBS sports things also a project to pick like a sixth round pick an obscene somethings I have them all a first round pick the good news is for these guys is that they have much more trusted sources like telling them what projections are verses like that just going up the randomness of every sports website out there I'll say this too in in Donovan people Jones and eco Collins cases specifically if they come back and
