"He can go ahead and put up some Heisman like numbers because believe it or not. That's embedded is in the top 5 in the Heisman race, but if you do that, you might be running it up. Now the last time they played champion here was in 2017 and they won 42 to 14. They ran the ball on a 23 on the last 25 slaves in the game and did not score in the fourth quarter. And that was an SEC championship team. So the mystery here is how much does Kirby smart want his quarterback in the Heisman race versus the class and dignity of not running it up against the guy that hired you at Dallas estate in 2000? Let me ask you this for the audience. There's a lot of interference and a lot of sandwich quite frankly has made your segment much more enjoyable to me because I can't hear a word you're saying. What's going on there? They're doing some scoreboard testing, you know, university of George is a top 20 academic institution. And so Josh Brooks wanted to see to it that this testing did not disrupt the students in the classroom. This is an academic institution first, Paul. Is mister Brooks aware that you're doing a live hit here on national television. He is, and I'm sure he's enjoying it as much as you are. If there's thunderous noise in my ears, I stand up in front of the stadium and talk about his number two ranked football program. Okay, well. He may not have to wait a minute. He's only in his second year. He may not have the power to get that scoreboard off. Because so far, I haven't heard anything about the Jacksonville game being moved back to Athens, so let's get Josh from time to get settled in before he got that

"Receiver. I've heard some rumors of a high profile defensive lineman, maybe from the ACC interested in transferring in. Maybe another running back Kirby's not done yet. Caleb Williams at one time who committed to who signed today was reportedly looking pretty seriously at Georgia. What do you know about that? I think he was just leveraging USC for more money. Honestly, I don't think he ever intended on coming to Georgia. I think it was just a matter of leveraging USC. I mean, my goodness, he shocked himself. I mean, look, when I say this, I'm not talking down. This is the way it is now. This is free agency, Paul. These kids are going to do that if they're savvy enough, they're going to shop themselves around. They're going to raise up the price and then they're going to cash in and that's what Caleb Williams did at USC. I mean, I've heard talk of three, $4 million for this kid. I don't know what's true, what's not true? I can't foia it. It's not, you know, you're not able to get that information public at this time, but we're talking millions of dollars now the going rate for a transfer like a Caleb Williams, JT Daniels also in the portal. You know you're here in LSU, you're here in West Virginia. You're here in Notre-Dame, TCU, or you know, all over the map, and you wonder where will JT end up? Will there be an NIL deal? He's got a wait till after spring. He's got a graduate. He didn't get a release from Kirby. Kirby wanted to become back JT said no, seen this act before coach. I'm transferring out. And now we have to wait until JT graduates in the spring before he's eligible as a graduate transfer. So there's a lot of different rules. A lot of different moving parts and a lot of dominoes falling that are going to create the situations for these players to go to different schools. I don't want to come off naive here, but I'm just going just for the sake of the integrity of the game, which I say was a smile and a laugh. You take millions of dollars that he leveraged his ticket to SC for that kind of money, Mike, for those who were a little hard to hearing. Explaining how you do that. Well, I mean, there's NIL deals. Now, technically, schools can not set up and IL deals. The athletic, they can't be officially associated with this. But the booster clubs can. And we've seen it in Miami. I think they set up an LLC if I'm not mistaken. So right now, poets, it's almost a wild west gold rust race for schools to figure out the best vehicle to secure funding to pay players. And even as we speak, I was talking with George athletic director, Josh Brooks, and he said, look, I'd give you a comment, but the rules are changing so fast, man. You know, there's already things changing in the two weeks since I did an interview. So this is a really fluid situation. The NCAA trying to figure out how did they get their arms around these NIL dealings because what's going to happen is they're going to get undercut from outside sources from agents from other marketing groups. And suddenly, donors aren't going to be contributing to old state U, they're going to be contributing to what was once a slush fund, now called an NIL fund to secure players. So right now, everybody trying to create the perfect wheel and figure out how best to maximize the money to put these players into their schools. It's really a crazy time in collegiate athletics. And back to something you said a minute ago about stetson banner. I asked you the question because you can't assume anything right now with the Georgia quarterback room. So give us, first of all, stetson Bennett decision to come back, which surprised a few people. He had the Hollywood ending. So what happened? Why did he come back and where does all that stand? Well, first of all, you have to understand stats in Ben Paul. He's a little different than a lot of other kids out there. He doesn't necessarily want to cash. He doesn't want to be the Rudy of the SEC, okay? He's not ready to be the 30 for 30 or the Netflix special. He wants to play football. And he said after the game that he's playing football somewhere next year wasn't sure if it was going to be George or somewhere else, but stetson Bennett, by gosh, this guy wants to play ball. He knows that he could cash in right now and the story would be perfect. He'd go out on top and ride off into the sunset. And yes, there were people that wanted to push him down that road and get a younger, more talented person in there. But Bennett says, no, man, I've come this far, I've been a scrap, or I've been a fighter. I want to stick it out. I want to be in Georgia bulldog. I want to come back and you get the feeling that Kirby says. All right, man. No promises. You gotta compete just like anybody else. Carson back, year three, former state champion in the state of Florida. Don't forget. Rock band, grand 5 star, look for both trauma. Guess what's that? You gotta beat these guys out. Then it says, you know what? A beat him out before. I'm stuck around 6 years. He's gonna be 25 years old this season. He's ready to battle for that spot and we're gonna see what pad monkey does for one more year and then George is going all in on arch Manning. And that's where that story's going. And I realize we're not allowed to talk about recruits down the road, but we did see Kirby smart at the basketball game the other day..

"Moving real fast on this topic and maybe people's head spinning, but the bottom line is in college football, you're going to get what you pay for. Now, yeah, there's a lot to be said for the fact that Georgia is going to have another advertisement. They're going to have 12 or 13 guys picked and the NFL Draft. They got three projected first rounders. They got 18 year old guys. I told y'all this the other day when I told you why I was picking Georgia but all those guys going to the NFL yes, Georgia can develop talent. Yes, Nick Saban has proven track record. But you're still seeing kids go where they can get the best deal where they can get the most money and that's kind of what recruiting is about. The facilities used to be the arms race, Paul. Now it's about that free agent money pool that you can get put together by sponsors, donors, and anybody else's door that you knock on, you know, looking for that free agent fund. Like you mentioned the windfall to Kirby smart. That was expected. Win or lose. As I was leaving the airport, where you are right now, today, I mean, there were kiosks set up with gobs of Georgia sweatshirts. I bought four or 5, just to be part of the fun. And how big of a windfall is this going to be? Just from a licensing standpoint, all the things that are already being sold on media on the Internet, what's it all about? Everybody loves the winner, right? Everybody loves a winner in Georgia was already one of the most profitable athletic departments in the nation, Josh Brooks taking that over. I don't anticipate that changing. I mean, that's good business for Georgia athletics and those surge is as much as their academic administration and red tape lets them. I mean, this is the campus that still doesn't have a statue of Herschel Walker on campus. People get all, you know, well, there's events duly statue, but we're drawing the line there, man. Gotta remind everybody where academics, come on, man. How are you, Georgia, and you don't have anything emblematic of Herschel Walker. I mean, you go to LSU and you see Shaq and you go to Michigan state and you see urban Magic Johnson, you go down to the swamp, you see spurrier. You go to Alabama, you see all these, you know, dead coaches and Nick Saban, immortalized with these in Georgia. You know, you know, I'm looking around. I mean, I got Vince duly being carried off somebody's shoulders, you know, on a street corner. I don't see anything around the stadium. You know, so I think this gives Kirby a little bit more clout. I think this means Kirby, maybe, you know, has a little bit more persuasion and people are going to recognize the value of this at the university of Georgia. And you mentioned the licensing and merchant merchandising, but in so many more ways. And I've always thought that Georgian Athens was a little bit of a well kept secret because most people stay in it in Atlanta from the outside when they come in to Georgia and then split out of the football games. You get in Athens and it's an unbelievable college town. I've said, if Epcot had a college town world, it'd look a lot like Athens. Campus is great. So the advertisement for the university of Georgia is immeasurable. As you say. Incredible day. And Mike, I know it will be announced in some of it's starting to leak out, but what is the plan now? I know there will be a celebration this weekend. That's right. There will be Saturday celebration in Stanford stadium. No, no truth to the rumor. They want to move it to Jacksonville. They're going to celebrate it. In Sanford stadium, they're going to have a parade that's going to go down lumpkin street. It's going to be a fantastic scene for Georgia. At the university of Georgia in Sanford stadium, the tickets are free, but you got to be a season. Ticket holder to get on that list first, or a student, right? You know, there's always a catch. I think they're going to have 90,000 there. And I think it's a day that Georgia fans have waited a long time for so many jokes being the butt of the 1980 jokes and Florida fans. You know, really giving him a hard time. And now Georgia has their championship. And now we see how they evolve because here's what's next Paul and I'm gonna let people enjoy they're gonna love it. But I was at Tennessee when they won a 98. And all of a sudden that bar gets raised. And anything less is a disappointment. Remember the next year, Tennessee played Nebraska. Same ball game, nobody care. Not a title game. They play Michigan a couple years who cares, not a championship. So once you climb to the top of the mountain, and I've had several coaches tell me this, it's harder to stay there than to get there. Mike, are you planning on coming home any time soon or you're just going to plant your flag and indie? You know, I will, actually, I'll return home tomorrow and then be home for a little bit and then I'll be down at the senior bowl because as I said, George is going to have 8 guys down there. Simone believable ability for these athletes to showcase themselves, one on one. Your teammates not there to protect you anymore. Okay? It's just you. And that guy crossed from you. It doesn't matter what's on his helmet. He's there for a reason. The NFL believes. So that senior bowl is dynamic, and I'll be down there to cover that. And then I mentioned I'll be back here in and deep for the NFL Draft. Excuse me for the NFL combine where you could see 14 or 15 guys depending on how effective Kirby smart is negotiating with guys like Louis seeing the defensive MVP. I know they want him to come back. George pickens, how much might it cost to keep George at George at Georgia or does he go pro? So they've got some free agents at Georgia that they need to resign in order to have a chance to compete for the championship. Again, next season. Mike, thank you very much. Always great to have you on. We'll talk to you in a couple of days. When things calm down. But there's a little bit of news out of Alabama. As we head toward the break, Jill billingsley and drew Sanders are a reportedly entering the transfer portal as well as drew Sanders and Paul Tyson, Paul Tyson, the backup quarterback and the great grandson of Paul Bryant. On the verge of leaving Alabama, we'll be right back. You are listening to the Paul finebaum show podcast. In college football, Goodyear knows a new season means new possibilities. "You every Monday and Thursday. Listen and follow in decrease wherever you get your podcast. On the vandy taking on South Carolina in prime time, lane kiffin returns to Knoxville, 7 30 eastern. And Chris Dorian will be in studio, talking about all of those games when they're over, and he joins us now. Chris thanks for the time. It's always good to see you on these Friday afternoons. Let's start where we are right now. As you well know, these dog fans are sky high number one in the country. What are they going to face tomorrow when the cats come to town? Well, they should be sky high. I've been saying all along. I think this is the most complete team in college football. They continue to get better. And by the way, they've been doing it with a backup quarterback who is probably better than half the country's starting quarterback. So they have the luxury of having a lot of depth. Obviously, they've recruited really, really well. But with Kentucky, it's kind of the opposite, right? They're built very differently. They don't have the four and 5 stars like Georgia has, but they have guys that play really hard. They understand their jobs. They execute really well and they're developed. So I think that's one of the things that coach stoops staff has done better than anybody is developed the talent that they've brought in there. So they are starting to get a little bit more talent. They're being able to recruit in some places. They haven't been able to recruit before. But I think at the end of the day, you're talking about a team that's a bad matchup for Kentucky to have to play. It reminds me a lot of the Arkansas game a couple weeks ago. Kentucky runs the football really well. Georgia will not give up a lot of runs. Kentucky doesn't have a ton of explosiveness. It certainly hurts to have Josh Ali out of the lineup. So Wanda, Robinson, I imagine we'll get a lot of the attention from the Georgia secondary. And I just don't see them being able to move the ball consistently without having some explosive plays. And I don't know if this Kentucky team has the explosiveness you need to knock off the George bulldogs. Jump ahead a little bit, because the question two weeks from now, maybe somewhere, but what type of team would cause the most problems for Georgia? Ironically, I think it might be Tennessee. I mean, look at what Tennessee has done. They're evolving offense that has now found a leader in hindon hooker. What they do offensively gives some teams like Georgia potentially like Alabama hard time with all of the tempo that they use with the motions the misdirections, the eye candy that goes along with it. You know, I really think that that Tennessee offense is continuing to get better and better and could be a potential challenge for one of the better defenses in the conference like Georgia. A lot of big games on the docket tomorrow I want to talk about the one in starkville. Everyone assumes Alabama bounces back. That's just what you expect from Nick Saban after laws, not that we've had a lot of experience. We're watching Nick Saban teams after a loss. So what do you expect from tomorrow night? Yeah, speaking of things we expect. This season has taught us we got to expect the unexpected, right? Every single week, we think we figure something out. We come out and see something to the contrary, the following week. So in typical fashion, Alabama would fix the things that ail them. I don't necessarily know that they have yet, but I also know that what mississip does offensively are not the things that have created some strain on this Alabama defense early in the season like Florida did against them like a and M did last week. So I think that in this instance, it's going to be a little bit of a grinded out game. I do believe that that Mississippi starting to find their way on the offensive end, but I just don't see them being able to consistently score down in the red zone without the ability to run the football without the ability to line up and move people off the line of scrim. I just don't know that Mississippi state can consistently score without having some of the longer plays from outside of the red zone. I do think Alabama wins this game, but I think it's a closer game than a lot of people probably expect. So talking to Chris storing about the slate tomorrow, I think you know where I'm going next. Knoxville, you mentioned them a minute ago and lane kiffin shows up. On his white horse and, you know, I'll miss for all the explosiveness. You've already alluded to Tennessee. How is this game one? Yeah, the ironic part about it is I think there actually might be something about the defenses being ready for these offenses because they're very similarly built, right? Remember that Jeff levy was with Josh hypo down at UCF. A lot of what has been incorporated into the old mess up and things that Tennessee does very similarly. So these offenses in practice every day are going up against the defenses using tempo, using that misdirection we talked about using the motions. So I actually think that these defenses may be more primed for what they're going to see and have to defend tomorrow than maybe like any of the other teams that don't get the luxury of going up against. And now, with that being said, I believe in an old miss I came on your show a couple weeks ago. I was wrong about the prediction of who was going to knock off Alabama. But I do believe in old mess. I think they got something to prove on the defensive side. They were embarrassed last week by Arkansas. But Matt carrell, to me, continues to be the best player in college football. What he does in addition to throwing the ball with the run game, what they ask him to do between the tackles, the guy is incredibly tough and he puts a lot of pressure on the opposing defenses. So I'm gonna stick with my old miss rebel team here, but I do think it's an entertaining ball game. Chris finally in Baton Rouge. We all know how depleted this LSU team is. It's almost inconceivable to think of all the players that they have lost and the contribution that they couldn't be making. So what gives in the early game at Tiger stadium? It seems a little similar to last year, right? When everybody had kind of left LSU in the garbage heap on the side of the road, Florida was a three touchdown favorite and here comes LSU is able to pull off a victory rally that locker room together and create a little momentum at the end of the season. Now, I'm not saying that's going to happen this year. But it's not like everybody's feeling all rainbows and unicorns about Florida. They had that disappointing loss with a 15 penalties against Kentucky a couple weeks ago. They did have a remedy for correcting what ailed them. And that was playing Vanderbilt last week, but it wasn't exactly like they were smooth on offense. So I do think this is a game where we're thinking that Florida's probably going to win more so because we feel less confident about where LSU is. But I do think that Dan Mullen is one of the best schemers in play callers in college football, from what I've seen on tape. The LSU defense is absolutely terrible. In terms of executing their assignments, knowing what they're supposed to do and even maybe more troubling to me is how slow and indecisive they play. And a lot of that comes from maybe not knowing what you're supposed to be doing, but they're in a lot of different conflicts of assignment. And it just doesn't look like an LSU defense that we're typically used to saying. With a look ahead to tomorrow. Thank you very much, Chris, we appreciate all these enjoy the Friday afternoon conversations. More of your phone calls is we begin to wrap up what has been a very busy afternoon here at the university of Georgia. "Thanks. Brenton, in Georgia, is up next. To hey Breton. Hi, Paul. Roll top, but I don't want to talk about a little bit about your hearing. Carby done a fantastic job of recruiting. They've been so close to win. How much pressure is our viewers now? They're number one, everybody's talking about. If I don't win the benefit this year, I believe there's happened. Listen, when you're the number one team in the country, it carries with it a lot of pressure. We beating the number two team is great, but you'll still see it in a Kentucky would be more than happy to beat in the number two team tomorrow. But there is something magical about number one, I don't care what any code says. And I think Kirby, I joked with him about it. He always says the same thing, because that's how you have to be. And I think it's worked to his advantage, but I would agree. This is the first time in 17 the expectations were different. Remember that team lost to auburn, they it was a completely different situation back then. And even in the Alabama game, Alabama was favored, this is a different situation and Georgia will be favored against everyone probably including Alabama if they face each other and when you get people saying like they have all week, Georgia is now the favorite to win Georgia is going to win. They have the best team. It adds to what happens when you fall. I've seen Alabama teams that were supposed to win, not win. And we experienced it this week on this program. And it does come with a big price. Do you think they're defense, you know? Or at this point, but not really facing like by rose the bottle as well. Down the field, do you think that's going to hurt them? Maybe because they're scared to really show any quarterback that really probably will scare them. I'm not looking past tomorrow, but I am really interested in two weeks from now against Florida. And we can either give Dan Mullen all the praise or not, but he is, he is a dynamic play caller and he comes out. He's come up with some he had a great strategy two years ago against Joe burrow and not against your overall, but against that LSU defense. And I would be a little concerned about that game and I know the rivalry comes into it, but other than that, no, I mean, at least until Alabama, the dogs are not going to see anybody that should put the fear into them. Hey, thank you for the call. Do appreciate it. We're heading to a break. We have Chris storing next. We'll get his take on the weekend. And more of your phone.

"No, and there's much work to be done. We've already started meeting and discussing it, a lot of options to discuss and look at. And thankfully, what I'm what I've learned in my 9 months in this role, and even before that when Greg let me sit in some 80 meetings is we have a great group of ADs to work with. So it's never going to be perfect. They're going to be some people who may have an issue with this or that, but I think as a whole, the strength of our conference is how well we work together because we all know the best thing is what's best for the conference going forward. So we don't know exactly what it's going to look like, but there's a lot of options being discussed. But fans want certain games and you can't play them all, but I'm just thinking the games that matter the most to Georgia are pretty obvious. I mean, the Florida game in two weeks is epic. The auburn game, which you just had, I've covered auburn football for most of my career. And it's hard to find a more special environment and I don't know if you can do all that though. Yeah, and that's the challenge you're trying to balance tradition, but as you move forward and expand to 16 teams. And one of the things that I'm excited about is through these challenges, they're going to be new opportunities. Being able to have a better rotation or where we go to places like Austin and Norman or College Station, which we haven't been to yet and getting a better ability and where we go, be glad you didn't go there last Saturday night. But that greater variability will lead to what I think will be better visiting teams traveling. I think, as we have more of a stagnant schedule, you're starting to see a little reluctance from visiting teams coming to certain locations. So if we get better variability, it could lead to better better travel amongst visiting teams. To say the ways this is a great time to be running the Georgia athletic department. And I'm well aware that there are a lot of issues other than college football, but we all know how important it is. And here we're in the midst of a historic run how tough is it to get a Georgia ticket these days? Well, it's extremely tough right now, especially in like this. But you know, this is where it's all about. This is what we want. And we have phenomenal fan support. Our fans are the most loyal and dedicated in the country. I believe I saw that. You can correct me if I'm wrong that we're the only SEC team that said 100% capacity. That's amazing. Every game so far this year and it's trending well. Again this week. But it all starts with their loyalty and how they show up week in a week out. And when we say, hey, we got a 12 o'clock game and we need you there an hour early. They show up there. And they're always the best. Our fans are the absolute best. And we have 6 or 6 opportunities at home this year. And you've got to cherish each one of those. And I think that's what makes this place so special. Just day to day as we wrap up here and talking to Josh folks, that's all I got. I mean, Kirby smart is a unique individual he's focused, but you can't help. I mean, this campus is literally like the state fair has come here to have so many sets like this one around. How do you try to take advantage of that? And there's only so many hours in the day there's only so much you can do, but you also know these are unique moments. Yeah. And that's the thing you got to get, you got to focus on because when these things start happening, you can focus and say, man, it's extra work. We've got SEC nation here this week, game day. We get CBS. All these things and adds to the workload. But we got to remember again, we have 6 opportunities to put on a show, whether it's recruiting, whether it's our fans, whether it's a young child, that's 7 years old, making their first appearance in San Francisco. It's important to make those memories because those are the indirect benefits that we're going to have down the road. And again, when we talk about recruits, we got track records here this weekend or other sports. Here, making that making the most of it, because those benefits will lead to success in other sports, lead to success in football, and so on and so on. So really it's about capitalizing and making the most of it enjoying these 6 opportunities we have at home. It's so great to see a Josh Brooks athletic director at the university of Georgia. He's been here a while, but he is now in charge and what a good time it is to be in charge here. Thanks.

"The pride passion that pageantry of college football lives here. This is the Paul Fein bomb show our four podcast. We are back. Final hour and we're not done yet. Coach Kirby's more joining us a few minutes ago and certainly igniting and fighting the crowd here, but we now have Josh Brooks and we've had a chance to talk to a couple of times. No longer exactly the new kid on the block. I said that after we saw the Backstreet Boys a minute ago, but you've been in the shop for a while. Most of the year in the Josh, how's it going? It's going great. You know, 9 months in. You know, you really want to get to that year mark to where you can say you've seen a full calendar year. I know I've grade a lot, you know, I want to see one of those photos like they do a president year one, present year four, maybe you're 8, and then really see how many gray hairs have came in. But I've had to shave the beard because the beard had gotten so gray that I really needed to get rid of it. And the last time you were on somebody posted on social media picture of you and I think it was Ted Cruz. And it went viral. Yeah, so I've made a concerted effort to do everything I could to remove that look. So I had the beard first. Yeah. Then he grew a beer. So I got rid of the beard, lost a little weight, added glasses, so I'm trying to do everything I can to dispel to get away from that look. I think it was lily, your wife, I ran into her earlier. And she was having a great time showing your niece around campus and I was thinking something tells me you're not cruising through a Friday afternoon with on homecoming weekend. Now it's been a busy day and these are for me these are important weekends, especially every time we get recruits on campus. And from all sports. So I met with track records this morning, women's basketball courts this afternoon. Any chance I can get to help in the recruiting process, no matter the sport, it's big for me to show that availability in the show, the passion from the AD of how important it is that we want to succeed in every sport. And Josh, it's so easy. It's so interesting because there was a time. And I'm talking many, many years ago when I remember being in college and you'd go see the AD and it was usually the former football coach. And that was the case here, although I would not classify Vince Dewey in the category of the former football. As we all know, coach doi is a genius on a hundred different levels. But this job is so different now. I'm not trying to say it isn't fun. But it's almost like you're on Wall Street trying to balance a budget fundraise nonstop, dealing with a thousand legal technical issues. I don't mean to make it. But it is not easy. It's more of a CEO role, but at the same time, I think one of the advantages I bring to this role is I came up through the equipment room as a student manager came up as a graduate assistant coach, director of football operations, so I've seen that led part of many different levels before I started working in administration, so I bring a perspective of being on the coaching side, being a student worker, and now we have administrative side, which gives me a balance. So when we talk with a coach, or meet with a coach and we're discussing needs versus once, I have a greater understanding of why something's important because I've been in the trenches for coaches, and coaches are going to fight for every advantage they can, because whether it's recruiting or whether it's to get their team ready, they're trying to find that edge. So I think you do find more administrators who maybe didn't play or maybe didn't ever coach. But that's why I'm proud of my past experience. I think it gives me an edge and helping to understand what my relationship with coaches. I ask Kirby smart this question and about NIO because we all thought that would be the topic du jour time we got together with administrators. But from your standpoint, I know, I know compliance is probably the first layer you have to deal with. But how has that gone so far? I think it's going pretty well. You know, it's still evolving day to day. The rules and how each school is applying how they're using it. But I think it's gone for the most part how we expected. And I think that what we're seeing now is early on, it was heavy football, it's because it was right around the beginning of football season, but now you're starting to see it open up another sports. We're at a point now where I think every student athlete from each sport has now has some format in IL deal. And I think that will continue to grow. So I won't ever say it's going exactly how we expected, but for the most part. But again, it's just evolving day to day. I'm curious about compliance because I know that's a really critical part of an athletic department to be compliant to deal with and they're very complex issues. I mean, somebody can walk down the street and be in jeopardy or breaking an NCAA violation. But how difficult is it or is it difficult to preach compliance, what you have to do while student athletes are making money in a completely different venue, but it's still seems like the line is being blurred. Yeah, you know, it's always stressful when you think about you have over 540 student athletes, 300 employees. It's a lot of people to manage to make sure everyone's doing the right thing. Thankfully, we have a great phenomenal compliance team lebow will Lawler who's got experience with the southeastern conference. He's got experience of the schools. His leadership in that department has been phenomenal with us. We've also partnered with groups that have helped us with the education process. And I think we've done a lot of programming and our kids have asked a lot of good questions. So I've been very proud of how they've bought in and ask the right questions and stayed on the forefront of these issues. So there really had been a lot of surprises or things that we have made on anticipate. Josh, what one thing that fans are always, I'm sure when you're walking around and they say, hey, what about the schedule? What about this? And George, obviously plays the creme de la creme. I mean, it started the season with Clemson. What is or is there a basic approach to Georgia schedule from this moment on? Well, thankfully, we have a head coach and coach smart, who believes in playing tough competition. And he's willing to go schedule those big matchups like beginning of the year with our match of eclipsing in Charlotte in future games. You look at our schedule for the next ten to 12 years. We've got a lot of big matchups, and he believes it makes our team better. And I think that as we look to the potential 12 team playoff, I think it's going to do it's going to serve us well to have that stronger schedule that we could turn back to and say, we weren't afraid we wouldn't step up and play great opponents. And I think that's his mindset. I'm thankful to have a coach that thinks that way. And hopefully it'll lead to other coaches doing the same. Because I do think at the end of the day, it's better for college football. It's better for our conference. It's better for the fans to have those key matchups. And I'm just guessing another question that athletic director is like you get. And I know there's no answer, but I'll ask you anything. What is the SEC going to look like when that day comes, whether it's in two years or four or 5 years when Texas and Oklahoma joined the league? We're also conditioned in knowing what the east looks like, what the house looks like with the rivalry games look like what the crossovers look like. But it probably won't look that way..

"After this listening to the paul finebaum show podcast. We are back some reaction to bills list we begin with dino who is in both in alabama hello dino paul lesson the love your program. I just had to bring this up because this gentleman that made this list up. I don't know if he's gone wacky tabacchi. Or what but nineteen seventy-three. The sugarbowl era parsegian was coaching. Notre dame and alabama fan and unfortunately notre dame be bryant. Twenty four to twenty three. I think it was that was happen. And you know he for. I didn't hear his name mentioned. Well you know. I started thinking outside the boundary. But he really didn't era coach until seventy four played alabama again that year so he should have been eligible for this list. I didn't even think about that. He's one of the mir air. Parsegian is one of the great coaches in college. Football history. I i mean he's he's welcome to do whatever he wants. But the idea the bill snyder's better than twenty these guys ridiculous right right but no one's three national championships with notre dame of my number. He has correct but he has I think that was an oversight by him. But you know the idea. That bill snyder davos sweeney are ranked ahead of frame boils and darrell. Royal and people like that. I know that there's a tendency for younger writers to go more with what they know versus history. But you if you're going to do a list like this you better. You better talk to someone who understands college football history. I think he should have talked to you. Well i i. I'm not sure. I could have helped them but i wouldn't i mean frankly college football History book would have been just as good. Hey thanks for the call. but i. i was pretty underwhelmed by His list and he's he's a he's an analytic sky and sometimes you just the dabo sweeney. He's got a great record For the last twelve years. But you're talking about influence Put phil fulmer that far down to put john major's that far down to put gene stallings barely on the list. Please let's check in with michael lewis in arkansas. Hey michael hey how you doing man we are doing. Well thank you michael. Hey i'm obama fan here in fayetteville. Arkansas i agree with one. Two three. I think i grew up. I grew up in the florence area. So i think bobby wallace might need to be on up that little bit body. Wallace definitely deserves to be higher. I agree he was phenomenal coach. Man i got a story about bobby bowden if you got time A high school basketball coach took us to auburn team. Camp to play Basketball when terry bowden and was the head coach at auburn in ninety three ninety four bobby bowden had won national championships with florida state. Right and i. I've woken up late to breakfast. I was hustling around. And i was the only person in the auburn cafeteria and i was standing there. Sleepy headed and there was a gentleman standing next to me. And i didn't notice who it was and i had my plate of food and i was looking at the drinks and i said hey do you think they have chocolate milk and and this large man kind of walked up. He grabbed a container of chocolate milk. He said here. You go son and i turned and in my sleepy head. I said thanks. Coach bowden wow and I was nobody. I wasn't a recruit. I wasn't anybody and he was just. He was just a kind demand. And so i just wanted You know in the in the light of things that have happened without family. You know a seventeen year. Old kid bobby. Bowden showed kindness to me when I could do nothing for him. And so i think that's the kind of guy he was well said and and very very accurate. Thanks for the call. Greg georgia greg. You're on the air good afternoon. Hey paul doing good kudos to that last comment. That's pretty cool on Mr ballard that's awesome but for this guy that made this college football coaching list. He's got bent newly at forty four. No disrespect martin rig. I loved him as coach. Love them every person. God willing he is one the one of the better ones does he not realize it. Coach dooley coast for twenty five. Years went to three straight national championship won numerous. Sec championships got a national champ. And one over a two hundred one gave you one two hundred one hundred hundred correct It i mean there were some outrageous things in the last. i didn't want to just. It's his list. But i was just curious about a few. And i think he revealed. I think the dead giveaway was his fascination with bill snyder. In lavelle edwards top ten laughable laughable. Ain't what is a overwhelming is. What looked at it. That guy needs to go back and read the history books before he puts out. Here's the problem. And i give him credit for one hundred years because but you know i knew when when i was growing up i tried to read about people like newt rock knee and robert kneeland in wallace and frank howard and and bud wilkinson and i. I'm going to sound like a curmudgeon here. But i'm afraid a lot of young people that try to encompass a history simply look at the record and and don't have any idea. I mean woody hayes joe paterno off a top ten list or eddie robinson right. They really most influential coaches with all due respect. You probably has bobby bowden a little bit too high i would have my top ten john mccain maceio give him credit John mccain was was incredible. Good coach but He was he. I think he got hung up on titles. Barry switzer Deserved attention but primarily eight. Got one in the top ten. That i didn't even more national champions. He'll well. I'll never get over. Bill schneider being in there. I mean that's not even possible. I know like. I say and i hope coaching watch. This causes coast duly is. He's probably going to reach out that do Lavelle edwards one arguably the most illegitimate national championship in the history of college football. Yes sir absolutely absolutely. But i was just. I was just shocked. They and no again. No respect bought re- he had mark rick ahead of markers very good football coach. Vince knew what he was a trailblazer. And i don't know if it's really realize there's only certain a number of spots but steve spurrier ranked where he i mean. Anyway we can we. Could we could carry on forever. But we're at a time. We will be back with two more hours..

"Bonus points for influence to just the the number knowing the way that The area system has changed college football gardens and bonus points. Dare i mean obviously you know no no conference titles as compared to quite a few for with the names right behind him but taking on texas got his best ever decade had walking date in the top ten. Obviously he hasn't done it yet but the influence and the fact that he won a lot of games at lower level schools so to speak meant a lot. Okay so you mentioned schneider a couple of what. What else have you heard. Because i mean. I don't want to just go either or it's your listeners can do my own list. I'm sure some publication would run it. I don't know which one. But i am curious where you're getting other other pushback from. Yeah i think those. I mean and a lot of it. What they say you guys. Who wanna kinda games in chips versus the snyder's and barry alvarez of the world that was certainly a sticking point but I honestly those that was. That was the biggest thing paterno on eleven was kinda tricky tricky. What you die you. Yeah i mean. I just i. Here's where i'm really in trouble with your list. Fr- showed jordan in in the in the grandstand. I mean that's your opinion. You didn't see him coach. And you don't that that's fair. He's he wasn't a big twelve coach. And obviously you put a high premium. But i just for the life of me You know have a hard time as i look at your list. You hope turno. Eleven eddie robinson. Twelve spurrier thirteen peak. Carol fourteen and jim tressel ranked ahead of woody hayes with with trust. Remember that one aa with count at twelve thirty at a ton of cocaine if he sold shoes in his spare. Time mean woody. hayes is woody hayes. I will say with one of the things. I didn't realize until i kind of put the list together was i did seem to put a lot of value in the guy who had very few off years. You know. just the ones who. That's out that when he ended up its high. Urban meyer. never add off year. So that's how he ended up in the top five But just the long stretches guys like joe paterno who around forever at a lot of great year than a lotta five and sixes and seven fours that maybe came down from last year. Florida director program. Oh no there's still one a ton of games that if that was the bad year that he was pretty good but yeah that was matching together win percentages and kinda year to year consistency with volume. 'cause obviously paterno and robinson especially at all the volume in the world when it came to wins and whatnot. It was a tricky experience. But i ended up maybe leaning a little bit more towards the the high points and the consistency and maybe expected to and build. Listen i i realize you're looking at things through a through a specific prison. That's how put these lists together but and you're always gonna get blowback but it's you've you've left me speechless at some of these. I have to tell you know. I mean this is a hard exercise and i was comfortable with it And that's really outscored. I've known about what you're going to take some people off so i was comfortable with it And the very very least with like my defenders list for a while back where number one was obvious enough that kept me from getting yelled out for that so that was good. Well i give you credit. I mean i think these are by the way why fifty. Yeah why why did you choose to only the last fifty years really. I mean even fifty years pretty difficult. But just the idea of comparing like nick. Saving to walter camp was just i. It made my head hurt a little bit. So i wanted to kind of create a general definition of modern football which i use basically. Why like where school started integrating it everything that years ago. That was my loose point for a demarcation. There it. It made sense but yeah the idea of compare and you know. Amos alonzo stack or meyer. Just i just could not make your work in my head. But you did have some tweezers though because i mean as coach into what seventy eight couple of guys did move. You know i mean. Bryant kosher dill eighty two. So was that more difficult did you. Could you give the same way to the guys at barely made the list. Obviously yeah i. I would basically like judge everybody on what they did after about. It seventy but that ended up being too weird like you're only given bear bryant credit for half his career because i randomly set the bar. It's fifty years. That didn't make any sense. So basically as long as qualified as long as coach about five years after about nineteen seventy than your whole career was taken into account just because it would have made. I'd have thirty eight extra disclaimers on their. They would distract from everything. Will bail congratulations. You've done another list and when you do a list that doesn't raise my blood pressure then then you will have failed. That's what i'm here for. Bill thanks so much great to have you on bill conley with his list. And you can do yours at home if you like. We'll take a break mortar. Calm and your reaction to that right.

Edwards ought to see that one to believe it. Barry switzer at nine bill snyder. Eight dabo at seven mckay at six urban and the final four osborne bobby bowden bryant and nick sabin. I mean. there is a month's worth of shows based on what that list had but we will talk to our guest here in a minute. Cal is up next in chicago. Hello cal paul our you well thank you. I just wanted to make a point here about the conference expansion. I don't know what taxes thinks that they're getting into They can't handle horns down gesture in the big twelve. I don't know how they're going to handle getting. Bali lost half the teams in the week to week basis and i also wonder As a conference expands Do you think that There there's a chance of the relegates Certain teams like south carolina for example to the north to make room for other teams. No i don't think cal. The anyone is leading the sec. I appreciate the call. Thanks so much for being here. Mike is up next in fort worth a hell. Am i good afternoon. Go paul. hey up. there's a lot of talk about what's gonna happen to the remain twelve team and Basically what the papers standing dallas fort worth is there. I mean it's bad. don't get me wrong. But they're not in this basically telling everybody to calm down as long as they're as long as they're in the power five conference deal. They're they're not in bed. Is bad a shape as you think They're still getting close to forty million a year with oklahoma texas. Let's say texas and oklahoma leave next year. This they'll get about fifteen to twenty million a piece and then after the contract expired at twenty four the senate probably merged with the pac twelve. So and i'm here in fort worth or tcu fan and t they say brings a different components for pay twelve. 'cause i a her oregon and usc they say they would. They would look at tcu because they the football program has dropped down last couple years but they bring a dallas forward television market in recruiting and So the big twelve remaining eighteen. I think are Love they stick together and they don't lose another person. They're going to be fine. They're still getting paid off money. Being twenty four. I think to what do you think my. Thanks for the call. Would you put bob dole's beyond because it sounds like you're reading from his cue cards. I disagree with pretty much. Everything you've said but i appreciate your thoughts. We are heading to a break. More of your calls at eight five five to four to seven to eight five bill conley about his list. He's always controversial. This one might be all timer. He joins us next listening to paul. Finebaum show podcast. Well we have shared The last one through one hundred with you over the last thirty minutes bill collie put together and we always enjoy bill joining us bill. Thanks for the time before we get to the list. Give us how you compiled it. Yeah i mean this is like a lot of the other lists. I've done. I mean just by a whole bunch of kind of disparate factors in one but i looked at the general when percentages that. And you know how many high level seasons you had kinda got my people. That's right in devolved a little bit. Like the most interesting part. I was to adjust some to some degree. Four where you coached where you accomplish the things you accomplished. So it wasn't simply a list of Guys who won a lot of games at the bigger schools other. The listing quibble about But i'm i'm curious just in terms of reaction that you have gotten. Could you share with us where the biggest complaints have come from the biggest push back. I've gotten. I really actually did not see this coming was was having bill snyder There what a. I think eighth overall that was a no brainer to me with just knowing having grown up in big twelve country knowing what. Kansas state was at that point in their history The fact that they couldn't find anybody who wanted the job that never finished ranked number one bowl That was just a the lowest of the low in terms of power conference programs for him to have them on. The precipice of a national title bid a decade later. It remains one of the most incredible things wherever going to think. That's great i've got i've i've got to ask you if you think about that Yeah bills an automated. An thomas your series either or which was l- but bill schneider better than joe paterno. Eddie robinson steve spurrier pete carroll in woody hayes. I mean i mean you. Do you do follow college football. Don't you know. I have the easiest. Ought to say that there are about fifteen coaches there. Were all basically bunch together. Really close but no i mean i i just i. I saw firsthand. What kansas state was before and after and that that obviously he kind of impacted. Hey bill gates or better You know a lot of other people have seen. Darrell royal in woody hayes and all these and have got to be going you gotta be out of your mind. Think the bill. Snyder should be ranked ahead those. I'm just. I'm just giving you some some anecdotal evidence here. Oh yeah well aware well aware of people picking way. But i'm comfortable with the fact that he did it where he did it. As opposed to texas where. Ohio state or usc. I think made up a lot of ground. There okay A couple of other ones and mike lee should forty one. He is ranked ahead ahead of. I'm just gonna go through a couple of names john. Merritt vince dooley shug jordan. Phillip fulmer john. Major's i mean it's endless Explain that one would you that one was. I mean obviously that was kind of a leap of faith. Pick kinda win against by numbers..

"You know the big issue last year which was obviously limited attendance and and it has been a big issue in college. Athletics in college football for a couple of years as as attendance has declined. I doubt it's going to be an issue. This year with the dogs is as good as they are. But but i'm curious as you look beyond this year obviously The concerns that many in your positions around the country have raised about trying to ensure that fans do show up at the football games. Yeah war blessed here. We've got a phenomenal fan. Base has been extremely low for a long time and our ticket. Sales are strong. We're sold out season tickets again We get can never take that for granted they'd come out covert and knowing that there were people that sat at home for more than they would like to last year. That we've got up our game. And that's why i put a big focus on the customer experience so and it starts at little things. We announced this summer. That were we create a core list of concession items that reduce the price ought to make it more family friendly Got a lot more green rolling out this year in terms of customer experience. I'm going gonna keep challenging to find little ways making that experience better and learn from our fears. Got break years down in atlanta at the hawks. In raise the falcons of what they do. And we're gonna steal every good idea we can to make sure we're providing the fans best experience possible. Some of the things are out of our control but everything we control. We've got the best in the country at. I think that's our challenge every day. Find those little things to make those experience better for all of our fans in judge when when you talk to your donors and your fans and i'm sure you have to do this in a industry like this. What what what do you hear from them. What what what do they want that Maybe they haven't had in the past. What services on game day are they most interested in. You know the thing that we get a lot air. The things that are relative to a lot of the sec stadiums. Being older venues right. So you get fans that get to go to mercedes benz and the other venues that have been renovated or brand new. And you've got us phenomenal older stadium. That's historic in sanford. But it provides some challenges because it's been built and expanded upon to so you're you're up against the wall in terms of your counts of number restrooms points of sale ingress zegers pathways. So those are the challenges. Those things of fans i hear about and we're we've already started Progress on one big initiative in the south part of the one hundred level. Stadium that to widen the concourse. The increase the restroom count new restrooms new concessions new points of sale. So it really starts those little things but it's also it's listening. Those are the big things that say they say a lot but but it covers every spectrum from what song they want. hear play to You know how long it took him to get in the stadium at a certain gate but all of those things are important us. And that's why. I say we have to keep finding ways to better every single one of those ways. What type of music do they wanna hear that your. That's it. I mean there is no you put out one song a guarantee. You have the rule that no matter what song you play. Ten percent of the population will be upset with the music. Always a polarizing issue. But i'm always in favour plane is much george music possible so whether it's Rem or allen. Brothers outcast or whoever. I think One of things. We could probably put more sonus as rushing shanghai georgia artists. I can pretty happy to georgia game listening to that those three. Hey scott thanks so much. It's great to have you on the program. We hope to see you very soon in athens. Thanks all thank you you to judge the athletic director at georgia. I realize everybody does not have access to this list. So it's a lot of names here. But i'll let you figure out who should and shouldn't be where they are one. Bruce snyder. he coached at arizona. "Being at the games and experiencing sports in person for a year. We weren't able to do that. And Couple of weeks ago. We were at the Reds game on a Sunday And it really hit home to me after not being at events in person. For that long we went with a group of friends Josh Sweeney from my third and main and Aurora invited my family, Kelly and Casey and and Peyton to go with a group of his friends and workers from third and main. And, um, we sat in a in a group and we talked and we watched the game and we relaxed. And we drank and we ate and we got up and we walked around. And it was just it was such a reminder of the way it used to be. And the value of of being there, and it had nothing to do with The action on the field. It had to do with being there with other people, and that's part of the draw and part of the appeal, and they're certainly many levels beyond that of the crack of the bat, the roar of the crowd the smell of the hot dogs and popcorn. What? I'm struck by the number of different times. I've had this very conversation with people about. I don't miss it. I don't know that I'll go back is much too. Man. I couldn't stand it. It wasn't the same. It wasn't the same watching games and here in the basketball shoes squeak and the whistle blown with no fans in the stands. Then I saw this this week. From Georgia's athletic director. And this is part of what teams and schools are going to face after a year. During the Georgia Athletic Board meeting last week. The athletic director is Josh Brooks in he revealed That prices for their concessions stand items are dropping. Hot dogs, popcorn, candy, bottled drinks Coca Cola Dasani water. And The belief is the drop is going to be about 50%. And the athletic director in that meeting said, And I quote We can't look for profits at every turn and every corner. And he went on to talk about how times are changing. Fans over the last year learned that it can be easy sitting on your couch watching a game rather than buying a ticket rather than paying for parking, rather than paying for concessions. And he has said, what many are now saying around the sports world. We need to doom or we need to be better. Giving fans reasons to come back. Because for a year we couldn't offer him any reasons. And they experienced The home experience, but I love that line. We can't look for profits at every turn and corner. And rather than marking up the hot dogs in the popcorn in the candy, Whatever the markup rate is, it's astronomically ridiculous. Georgia this year is going to say we're dropping our concession prices at least in half. To enhance the experience of going to a game. Making it a little bit more affordable, nudging the fan a little bit more off the couch. Come watch Georgia football. I think you're going to see more and more teams do that. When we come back, we do it every day. It's a trip back in time. So look at what happened on this date and Reds history. We'll head down the stretch with the Arnell Carrier. The person who lived in the apartment where the fire started had apparently just left home. Smith says there were no injuries. McGarity first took the role of the excellent director in 2010 following the dismissal of Damon Evans. There's more news and excess Wdun. So will we be losing you then? You know that There are a lot of jobs in the world I talked about wanting to have that's not one of them. You talk about politics. I'm in journalism. I already can't make people happy. That's a job where you cannot make everybody happy. No, not at all, because you have to win every single time and things that exactly what you're not just not just the football coach. You gotta win in gymnastics and basketball, because there's always somebody in You know, when soccer is there's always somebody that's going to be following those teams that are happy if you're losing exactly or for that matter. If you win, you have to win by a million points. Exactly. Yeah, if you just sort of wind that's not gonna work. Although I don't feel too sorry for Greg McGarity. He does make about $800,000 a year. Like I said, what would be losing many times? Do I think I could put up with a lot of grief for that? There's a reason why he makes that much. I don't want to have to take a pay cut. Oh, yeah. I need to talk to you about your contract. I need to figure out who negotiated that one. Indeed. All right, coming up in just a second forecast. Well, a lot of talk about the weather in the news as you just heard, and probably a little more talk as we work through the morning cold last night. Not exactly toasty this morning, either.
