"Coming in there, but if Russell Wilson plays like he did a year ago, Sean Payton, I assume, has the right has the respect in that building to be like, okay, we're not playing them anymore. That was a luxury that Nathaniel Hackett didn't really have. Not to mention they didn't really rip in his number three quarterback in this league. But if this goes down like it went down last year, they're just not gonna play Russell Wilson because it was absurd last season. When you think about Payne's offenses, they're so good, this is where it gets really tricky. They're so good at, you know, the saints office is so good at creating mismatches in the middle of the field and like what's the one thing, even in this prime that Russell Wilson was a very good at. It was finding those throws in the middle of the field. So it's not a great match. And I mean, Sean Payton has to be aware of that. And he will do something different. It's not like he has like, that's like his one like 2013 saints playbook. He's gonna show up with it and be like, wow, here it is, guys. This is all I know. But it's going to be interesting what happens on the field. And even more interesting what happens if the on field product looks like it did in 2022. I, boy, I hate putting this on one person. I mean, I don't know what I want if I'm Russell Wilson, right? I finally got my way out of Seattle. I guess if you were Russell Wilson, right? And you could go in a time machine. Would you want to go back all the way to the moment you started forcing your way out of Seattle and then think, boy, I gotta actually pretty good here. And everybody just thinks I'm sort of this misused talent and I will go down with the Super Bowl. I can keep chipping away at a Hall of Fame career. Through my longevity and I can go out as a God of Seattle and nobody's ever going to believe the Seahawks when they say that I wasn't running the offense. It's just going to be let Russ cook for the rest of my life. Or, you know, credit to him for initiating that separation process, but you have a chance to be wholly exposed this year. Like, Hackett was a convenient scapegoat, even though I think probably the reason you kick a 64 year old field go in the openers because he's not running the place that you're asking him to run. And so, you know, but anyway, and there's a lot of open receivers. I mean, man, you and I went back and watched some of those games. The guys that are just waving their hands in the air, jumping up and down, being like, please throw me the ball and he's not doing it. And if you do that with a Sean Payton offense, I'll tell you what, Hackett took the criticism for all of that. He took it. Because that's what he thought was best, I think, for that locker room. And that's what he did in Green Bay. A lot of the times. But holy smokes. You think Sean Payton's gonna sit there at the podium and be like, yeah, it's all on me. This is why this thing isn't working. The guy's got a Super Bowl ring and is one of the most revered offensive coaches in the NFL. You think he's gonna sit there and let his legacy be tarnished? No way. No chance. Like this thing, this thing is gonna get exposed. In our heart. Yeah. There might be a solution. And again, I don't necessarily blame Russell Wilson for wanting to change his style of play at this point in his career and be the BD pocket operating distributor that he never was in Seattle, but we're seeing why he wasn't that in Seattle. And I will, I will not take full credit for predicting that he would be the fourth best quarterback in that division because at some point last summer you also asked me if you were the eagles, would you trade all your draft capital Russell Wilson and get the certainty of Russell Wilson and said Jalen hurts? And I said, yes, I would. Which obviously, I mean, what a, what a nightmare scenario, alternate universe for the eagles to be in right now. That couldn't have been more wrong. So he's just he's a guy who it was his out of structure playmaking, which was just spectacular during his prime. And it was also his exceptional efficiency on downfield throws. He was the equivalent of whatever. He was Steph Curry of the other. I mean, these low percentage moon ball throws that were completed again and again and again. That was him in Seattle. And those are very much linked to physical traits and the physical traits are starting to diminish, and I just don't know if there's a solution. Maybe Sean Payton has something up his sleeve or maybe this is Sean Payton was the Broncos third choice and the Broncos were like Sean Payton's like 12th choice. Yeah, I don't know. And you know what? Let's throw down, let's throw down the voice of reason right now. And let's not finish this on a taking note, right? Because I feel like everything in the NFL has always been since the beginning of time, right? There is the complete, there's the, oh my God, he's gonna fix Russell Wilson take. And then there's the, this is gonna be a disaster take and it always ends up in the middle. It's like, yeah, they're ten and 7 and Russell Wilson threw 22 touchdowns and 12 interceptions and he's kind of like Daniel Jones now. And so, you know, and I think that, you know, that's probably what's gonna end up happening, right? Yeah. Yeah. Sean Payton had or somebody through the media had said Sean Payton was assembling his all star team of freelance coaches here to come with him wherever he might land. One of those names that were thrown out was a big Fangio, but Vic Fangio will not be returning to Denver as a defense coordinator. He does end up taking the job in Miami, kind of a weird flirtation type thing with what went on there. This is also a really interesting fit because Chris Greer has. Kind of pivoted to what they want to do defensively by bringing in Bradley Chubb. And I think there's some debate to be had about how good Jalen Phillips and Bradley Chubb can be as a sort of bookend pass rush tandem. I think Jalen Phillips is good. And I think Bradley Chubb is pretty good. I don't know if they become better than that. But the dolphins obviously were so blitz heavy and I mean, the zero blitz stuff they were doing under Josh Boyer over this past season and then obviously Boyer was there under Brian Flores. It's going to be a different look. And Vic Fangio, I think is not quite as blitz averse as his reputation. I think the Broncos were kind of middle of the pack and blitz rate, but the kinds of blitzes he's going to throw. You're not going to see a lot of your blitz stuff out of this dolphin defense. It's going to rely more on those two edge rushers getting to the quarterback and it's the first round pick. It's the guy you traded the first round pick for and gave the monster contract. That's where they are putting their resources right now and it kind of

The ramel family is grieving the loss of 55 year old imelda rimell, who loved ones called Mel. Investigators with the pierce county sheriff's department believe ramel was moving two vehicles in her driveway the morning of January 10th, when one of them rolled over her. But the family has tried to recreate the scenario many times. Still unable to make sense of what happened and where the vehicle ended up. While backing up, it was accidentally put on reverse. She wouldn't be able to get off the car. Ramel was found at the base of her driveway, but the vehicle was found reversed back into the next door neighbor's tree several yards away, facing away from the home. The family believes someone else possibly a carjacker may have been involved. "Triple team in my guests? Trying to figure out how the hell you can get them to not play in the game. Ultimately, you got a one move your quarterback. That's number one, and two, if you're Jacksonville, you get Travis Etienne and some easy throws, easy access for Trevor Lawrence. And I'm not just talking about running the football. Screams. Don't boss into out to the flats. Over the center of the line of scrimmage. You hold it too long, Chris is going to get you. So that's the key. I thought you were going to say pray. Sometimes you say that, but you know, what to do. But very clear that he didn't mind playing on the road as an underdog this week in Buffalo. Listen to this. I always enjoy going on the road. It's just you and your guys. It feels like it's you against the world, and that's where we like to be. You feel like I'm underdog going into this camp. I never feel like an underdog. He liked that mentality. I mean, I love me. We just got so much swag, unlike them, still quarterback to the past. He just got swag all the way around. You saw it in college. You see it now. Do walking with me coats and Cartier glasses. He just makes you as a player feel like I'm rocking with him. I say it again. Not like them stale boring quarterbacks of the past, Dan. I feel like you're talking about someone in the studio. Dan. Well, I don't know. He said, stale quarterback Stan. Anyway, you never miss an opportunity to just give something to the corner. Dan is like my brother, he knows, you know? I know. All right, the Bengals defense, meanwhile, we'll have their hands full with Josh Allen. Head coach Zach Taylor talked about the challenges that the bills offenses possesses. Not only save a great player. But they've got so many good skill weapons that size the quarterback to take advantage of the match ups or the open zones and you don't really have to force the ball to anybody. And so they just got such a wealth of talent there that receiver at Ted in at running back and of course the quarterback. That it allows those guys to win their match ups. Dan, if you're the Bengals defense, how would you game plan for buffalo? Well, I think that Josh Boyer, their defensive record, they actually just fired today, did some good stuff to force Josh Allen to play uncharacteristic last week. So on first downs, there's got to be a very specific mindset. Now, Josh is incredible. We all know that, but on first down, I'm gonna give Josh what he doesn't want. Everybody knows that on first down, Josh is this aggressive playing quarterback. I do not care the personnel or the grouping or the action. Give Josh what he doesn't want. What Josh doesn't want is that check down over the box because it's not fun. All these defenders that you have for, you give nothing over the top. You give nothing in that secondary, get your secondary or second level with the guys to get great debt. I'm going to give you one thing on first and second down. And that's not going to be a flat route. It's not going to be an intermediate throw. I'll give you the back over the ball. That's all you get, Josh Allen. Can you get him to get over aggressive and make a decision to push the ball up? Because that's not what he wants. That easy check down. That step number one. Third down, now I'm going to get you to go where I want you to as a defense. Imagine if you're the Cincinnati Bengals and this is Trey hendrickson. This is Jalen Phillips, okay? Elite speed rusher. What you tell him to do is get up to field right now. Josh wants to get to his right. Right now that speed rush up to field is going. You can't get through. You see this wall right here? Josh, you're not getting there. I want you to go to your left because I loop on the back side with these defenders and now Josh thinks I got something to the left while I do that. There comes this double team on Stefon Diggs. Gabe Davis one on one. Steph, you're going to get doubled. Go to the left for Josh Allen, the third thing. Just a little bit of mouse trap. Trey hendrickson and Sam Hubbard now, speed rush. Just get up to field guys that all I want you to do is you speed to get behind the quarterback. Josh gets aggressive in these moments. Climb the pocket. Now I'm going to tell my two detent defensive tackles. You're not going up the field. All I want you guys to do is build a wall right in front of the quarterback because those speed rushers are going to get him to climb the pocket. Again, when I do that, Steph, you're going to get doubled. Somebody else, you got to win. We're going to spy, Josh. He's essentially going to run himself into exactly where we are. Josh is an elite player. A great player. He is ultra ultra competitive. First down, give him what he doesn't want. Third downs, double step and then take him where you want maybe to his left are up into the pocket. Easier said than done, Cincinnati's got the mindset and the people to do a defensively. He didn't play great last week. This is a blueprint that can be copied. All right, yeah, they're so good on third down. By the way, I'm glad your ears got back a hold of that IFB. How about you're so big and I don't know what's going on. We need to figure out the tension there. Get a zoom in on that. Let's see. Stick that thing in there. Come on. By the way, Dan, you're not stale is key. Thinks you are. Maybe that's it. You got too much wax in there. All right, still to come as a forty-niners get set to host the cowboys on Sunday. We'll tell you how dac and company can cause big problems for this niners defense. Don't miss this. You're watching NFL live, presented by FanDuel sportsbook. Dijon breath stale. Hey, the postseason NFL countdown crew has you covered for the divisional round Saturday morning at ten Sunday at noon on ESPN and the app. Player features early breaking stories injury updates in previews of each game. So glad you're with us here on NFL live. Sunday's divisional round matchup between the cowboys and forty-niners features two quarterbacks coming off the historic performances. Dak Prescott just became the 5th player in NFL history to record four passing touchdowns and a rushing touchdown in a single playoff game. His rookie counterpart Brock purdy has become just the youngest player to throw for 300 yards and three touchdowns in a playoff game surpassing Dan Marino. Odd makers currently have San Francisco as a three and a half point favorite, but ESPN analytics actually favors Dallas on the road, giving them a 53% chance to win. We bring in Edward or now with more from Dallas and Ed, what is the mood around this cowboys team knowing that they didn't fare as well against the forty-niners last year? Yeah, different than you might expect. The cowboys were eliminated in last year's playoffs by the forty-niners embarrassed to be truthful. The cowboys were a division champion and yet the only home team to lose in the opening round of the playoffs. It was a game they never even led dak Prescott sac 5 times, pressured 20 times and having lived with that memory for more than a year. It was evident in the cowboys locker room just now that the rematch with the forty-niners is exactly what this team wanted, even playing on the road, even playing on a short week. Most definitely I did. I think this whole team did. Obviously, using that loss last year as a motivation and just kind of the focal point, I guess, of the resiliency that we carried into the off season, obviously carried into this year. Yeah, we get a chance to go back and at their place. Do something that we want to do. This is who I want to. This is what I wanted. I mean, people like to go around us, they lose here. This three headed dragon, we need to cut off one of the heads off. You know? I don't care who it is. We got wind up 'cause either way, you're gonna meet them at some point. You're gonna be ready for your moment. I'd rather not and later.

"Offensive coordinator changes. Tom has to decide whether or not he wants to play and then if he does want to play where he wants to play and whether he wants to play for a team that he believes is capable of winning. So right now, again, there are other things that Tom Brady is far more concerned about than who's going to be the offensive coordinator of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. More coaching news to get to in just a bit. So Adam sticking around for that. Marcus, let's stick with this right now. What do you think about the moving on from leftwich and Tampa? Yeah, I mean, I think chef de alluded to it. Productivity is a big deal, but also creativity. And this offense was stagnant. And to his point, it was some things that transpired that was absolutely out of burn left with hands. Especially with your offensive line being depleted and not coming back with the same type of guys. So, you know, I think this is a move forward for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This may be one of those horse resets. I'm of the mind that Tom Brady will won't be in Tampa. I think he'll be retiring. Oh, I know a lot of people differ in that, but I think the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are resetting a course now to try to figure out not only where they go from Tom Brady, but where they go offensively, philosophically and how they move forward in the future. Yeah, totally necessary move. There was zero connection for this offense. I'll go back to the year they won the Super Bowl in 2020. I remember being on the show talking about, well, they don't use motion at the snap. Play action pass. They started to do it. They go on to win the Super Bowl. I remember saying, they're so dependent on elite execution. While they can do that with the Hall of Fame wide receiver, Hall of Fame tight end, number two, wide receiver that's as good as anybody in the NFL, Hall of Fame quarterback, one of the best right tackles in football and the best center in football. Yeah, so you could be execution dependent. Last year it was the same thing, except Gronk was still there in AB was playing at a high level. This year, some of those pieces went away. This offense did it convert a single third and 11 this year. This offense was a good play action pass offense. They barely did it. So I understand people's feelings are heard about this. This is a production based business. There's no way you watch this season. And there's no way you watch that game on Monday night and didn't think my goodness. We gotta rip it all the way down because it's a colossal disaster offensively. This was necessary in Tampa, whether people want to admit it or not, it was needed. I don't think it was needed. I don't think it was necessary. Dan, and I do believe that my feelings are hurt in this situation. And here's why. I've been close to the situation in Tampa because I played there. This is a repeat offender situation in Tampa. Ultimatums being given to coaches all the way back to coach Tony dungy, as far as lovey Smith. And now we looking at it and we're seeing Thai bowls. That's what it smells like to me because you mentioned 2020, no creativity. They went on to win a Super Bowl. They were healthy. Then last year, when they got healthy, they look really good. This year was a broken down football team. They didn't have Leonard fournette was not the same guy. Evans in and out of the lineup, Godwin in and out of the lineup, no green kowalski to defense is in shambles, but yet and still. I know the ownership group down there and this is not far from them the gift coaches ultimatums and I'm disappointed in Thai bowls and I know you want to certainly say and everybody wants to say, well, what is he supposed to do? Certain times in certain situations, you're supposed to step on the table for your assisting coaches. Now, if there's something going on in between Todd, environ, in particular, I don't know, but I know coaches that I've been around will step on the table for their coaches and take the bullet for them and I don't see that's the case with tombo. So yeah, I am a little disappointed. A little bit. The lack of connection. There's no connection between what the dis offense does run game and pass game. The reality is this, I understand that there was a depletion of talent because of injuries. I'm watching the New York Giants play on Saturday night. Don't talk to me about how talented they are on offense. Their coaches have been complete difference makers and in Tampa offensively that wasn't the case. That's the truth. Well, both of y'all feelings can be taken into account. And I lean more towards you do, 'cause I don't know the people in Tampa. All I know is what I watch was a terrible offense this year. Now there are reasons for that, but I also have things that could have tried to help them not be who they were offensively and nothing ever changed from weekend to week out. And I think that's what we look at as the outside looking in, like, what are you actually doing with all of these mishaps that's happened in around you to elevate the level of offense and it seemed like it was the same old thing every single week. Yeah, let me just say this to you guys over the last two seasons, the bucks have used play action at the lowest rate in the NFL over that same speed and Tom Brady has the league's highest QBR on play action. So it's like, here's what it's silver platter. Here's how you can fix it. And that still didn't happen. I know there's a lot of context there, but still worth pointing out. All right, Adam, more coaching news as we go to Miami. What can you tell us there? Busy day, the Miami Dolphins fired their defensive coordinator, Josh Boyer, one of four coaches that they let go on the defensive side of the football today. They also relieved of their duties, the safety coach, Steve Gregory, the outside linebackers coach, I'm Mackenzie, and the assistant linebackers coach Steve, so there are some wholesale changes on the defensive side of the football for a team that didn't feel like it's defense, performed up to expectations. Remember them going out and getting Bradley Chubb, midway through the year, right before the trade deadline signing him to the big extension and then not getting huge results down the stretch. So whenever a team struggles in an area like that doesn't fill its expectations, usually there are changes that follow the changes that followed today, came on the defense side of the football for coaches, let go, including the defensive coordinator. Yeah, Adam, the dolphins defense ranked bottom ten in the league in both points allowed and defensive efficiency this season. More news from Adam coming. So keep it locked right here and we're just getting started on NFL live. "Got here. And that's where the dolphins look, they have this huge defensively. You paid a premium premium premium price spring and Bradley Chubb and getting a good player. But probably not the kind of guy between him and J one Philips will be fine. That's a good pass rushing duo, but it's probably not game changing going forward. But Josh Boyer has been good at making things really messy for Josh Allen. Obviously they blitz a lot. They blitz in a lot of different ways. That seems to, I don't know, bring out sort of the backyard football in Josh Allen, which a lot of times is spectacularly good, and sometimes is really, really bad. And you got some of the real root of that in this game on a handful of snaps. And that's how the dolphins end up sticking around in this one. They played, it's frustrating, right? Because if your boy or if you're Miami, there are things that you can do absolutely perfectly 100% right. And still look completely flummoxed on. And the perfect example that I thought was buffalo's first touchdown where you had one of your linebackers on Dawson Knox and just did this incredible job of sort of delaying himself as declaring being the defender on Knox. So Alan arrives at him in the progression. He wants to dump the ball down and then he's like, oh, shoot. I can't throw this ball. He's looking around and like Khalil shakir's covered, Stefon Diggs is covered, Gabe Davis is covered. And then Alan's just like, okay, and he just keeps following Dawson Knox and then just throws it at him anyway. And he's perfectly covered and knocks just jumps into the air and sort of like one hand basket catches the thing in the end zone. And it's just like, yep, it doesn't matter. This team's just really good. Everybody's perfect. And sort of, in a less definitive way, sort of like the forty-niners of the AFC where you're just, you're just gonna have to play so perfect and then some to beat them. But I just think there's more teams in the AFC that are capable of doing that than there are teams in the NFC that are capable of doing that against San Francisco. Correct. Yeah, and obviously we're gonna talk about the forty-niners a little bit later in the show and their victory, but the thing that I guess you're encouraged about here if you're a bills fan is you kind of played your sea level game in this one and you're still you're still moving on and you're still moving on in.

"Obviously watching so many games, majority at a time late in games, quarterbacks are going to be very uncomfortable. Right now it just feels like when two it gets in these situations. It's almost like a computer. I put this in the computer. I'm supposed to get this result. Well, that's not the case all the time. Sometimes you have to go above and be on the play call above and beyond the look. And sometimes to your point, do your eyes or whatever you've been tracking in the first half is not going to be a continuum. The first half of this game, my tweet, I tweeted, I said, to a cooking. Last game he wasn't cooking nothing. He was putting everything back on the shelf in the grocery store. The problem is he has to be better out of structure when people figure out all of those little things that he's trying to do to manipulate defenses. I want to talk about the other side of the ball that dolphins defense. What went wrong for them yesterday? Well, I was a little perplexed by their defensive approach. You know, Aaron Rodgers greatest strengths as a quarterback are his quick release and then of course his mind he has seen every coverage every pressure on earth. So I don't know why Miami even being a blitz happy defense as they are, would blitz them on nearly two thirds of drawbacks, which is an astronomical number. They got to him twice, but it splits against the blitz were so much better than facing a standard rush in this game. And I have to think when Bradley Chubb went out with an injury, maybe the defensive coordinator Josh Boyer thought this is the only way we get home, but you have good players on that defensive line. Christian Wilkins, Jalen Phillips, and the packers were banged up on their offensive line. They should have been able to rely on that four man Rushmore, especially against Aaron Rodgers in particular. The pain on Marcus spears face while you were talking about that was real. And spectacular. Dolphins, zero and four and December. Win list December and franchise history. The other one was 1993. I know what I was doing. I don't want to have the conversation about what all you guys have been doing in 1993. A few pads have opened up for the packers to make the playoffs. I said I didn't want to talk about it. Here are two of the most likely scenarios win their last two games and the commanders lose once or win their last two games and the Giants lose both green based chance to make the playoffs now 37% per ESPN analytics. That's the highest that number has been since October. So Mina, on the other side of the ball, it was a good day for Green Bay even though it was a bad day for Miami. What did you like about the packers game plan yesterday? Well, so when we talk about the packers last few weeks, I've been saying the offense is actually fine, the young wide receivers are playing well, but I don't believe in this defense. This run defense stinks. I got to give them credit. After the first quarter, they had Miami to 11 carries for 26 yards on the ground. And you know, they struggle so much with those odd fronts and light boxes, but I thought Jaron Reed is one of their defense tackles. It was very good in this game. And then the outside linebackers. Preston Smith, in particular, but also Justin Holland did a really excellent job setting the edge against Miami zone run game. They also walked down quay walker a couple times for those 6 one fronts that work against wide zone rushing attacks. It's encouraging. I'm not saying that the run defense is fixed. But as we look ahead to the playoffs and they're facing really good run running teams, the fact that they were actually able to hold it together for three quarters, I think, is encouraging for this defense. Yeah, considering where they were most of the year, they'll take better, even if it's not yet fixed. Dan, what'd you like about the packers offense yesterday? Well, I mean, there was a very clear blueprint for this football team throughout the whole off season ever since devonte got traded the draft picks for two defensive guys in the first round. It was played dominating defense, run the ball efficiently and explosively, and then Aaron Rodgers make like four or 5 great throws in the game. Well, two or three of those things happened yesterday. There wasn't a dominant defensive performance, but they ran the ball efficiently and then with the explosive elements and the Rogers made those four and 5 throws that only Rogers could make. The ball down the sideline to these tight end Mercedes Lewis, the ball down the sideline to Allen lazard, the ball and the deep out route to Romeo Dodge. Those throws that we sit there and go to S Rogers right there. And maybe maybe this defense is not going to be dominant right now, right? Because there's two weeks left, right? Maybe this defense is hoping to be opportunistic. We saw a couple of takeaways this past weekend. We saw a couple of takeaways against the rams. We saw a couple against the bears. If they can be opportunistic with some takeaways and then they do that in their run game and Dane Rogers, thumb is healthy and those two young receivers continue to allow the physical talent to shine, they got a chance here with two weeks to go. All I could think was I wonder if these guys want to spend a little more time in all season, could this rapport have been built earlier? I kept coming back to that. And not just in this week, particular, like it started to show up against the cowboys when Christian Watson had his come to Jesus. They're still with some drops. They're still with some miss rose with Aaron Rodgers, but I see a level of trust being built with these past catchers and him spreading a football around. I just think I don't think the packers are going to make the playoffs. Obviously, it's a great feeling right now with them going into Miami and winning. I think a lot of people pinpointed this one as the one out of the three that they needed to get to bolster those chances obviously, but you look at this, you look at this team and how he's now spreading this football around for a few weeks now. Still run games still Aaron Jones steal AJ Dylan, but it looks a lot better with these guys in the secondary, a lot of trust seems to be there that wasn't there early in this season. I'd say this week 18 feels like a playoff game when and get in, lose and stay out for them and Detroit. They're playing Minnesota this week. Minnesota has made New England's offense looking credible to make the Giants offense look pretty pretty good this week as well. So I think Green Bay is going to have offensive success this weekend as long as Watson plays, but if their defense can find one or two, find yourself one or two, week 18 is going to be a playoff game between them in Detroit. Maybe the bad news is their next game is technically in January because they're 15 and zero in December under Matt Lafleur. Win streak in league history. When we come back, dak picked up where he left off with a pick. And then after that, he was flat out fantastic. Was it enough for orlowski to put some respect on dak Prescott's name? Stay tuned to find out. Do it bigger only way to improve my Cheddar. And make it triple and I ain't trying to complicate it. Keep it simple. The right time. With bomani Jones. "Football training camp is heating up. The dolphins and Buccaneers are holding joint practices today and tomorrow down in Tampa. There's always some great one on one matchup. Plenty of opportunity for trash talking. But Kyle, there must be one thing in particular that standing out to you to watch for in these joints, bucks, fins, joint practice in the next couple of days. Three letters. I'm just watching that man. I'm watching tua tung valoa. And if I was calling plays for the dolphins, you know what I would do in the first exercise? Hard pump fake and deep to that man. Let's just get it over with, chuck that thing deep. I want to see how he throws it. I want everyone to shut up. I want them to tweet it out. I hope they hit it too. It's one of the lamest off season storylines, and it's at the season yet, but I'd like to officially like trying to close the loop on that. And then I'm just watching how he handles it, how he handles himself, how he runs the offense. How are you using the huddle? Does he talk to Brady? Does he yep, it definitely white. Like, I want to know if two is that type of dude who, you know, as they say, the most popular expression in all professional sports right now is that this person has that dog in them. It's everywhere. I don't know if he has it. Scrimmage is fine. There'll be a fracas or two. There'll be some yapping and I want to see if he has the dog in him and I don't want to see as the deep ball and it's clean and simple. The quarterback of the dolphins too. Will he be about that action as another one? Yes, earlier. But yes, that's the number one thing I said. We've seen it all training camp. Tyreek hill, Jalen waddle, the D pass. What's it? Will that happen? Now that there's another opponent in front of you, but also we talked about with Tampa Bay, offensive line, Ryan Jensen is not the alimony pet retire. How do they stack up against this Miami Dolphins front where they blitz, they get after the quarterback, and then number three, I wrote down Miami's defense. I was a part of it last year. We went to Tampa. We played against Tom Brady. It was not pretty. It boss out. They hung nothing 40 points out. It was ugly. What happened? Tom Brady. Yeah. Really? Yes. And we had to normal game national games, everyone like, let's see the dolphin. Let's see what tomatoes. It's over before the half time. It was ugly. So I want to see how that defense looks. Now they're getting another crack at this Tom Brady led offense. Does it fare better? And I think overall just joint practices in general, you've been going against the same opponent all training camp. You know the offense is doing. You know the defense is doing grandfather talked about here. The practices are scripted. Hey, we're going to run a deep play action. Hey, let's put in a blitzing defense and see what the secondary does. And when we put them in a tough spot now, it's a little bit more. It's another opponent in front of you. You're running some of your best scheme to see how it's going to look. I want to see what both teams look like against each other. I follow a lot of the local beat reporters on Twitter and I text you a bunch and then of course those people at the team side, you know who's getting a lot of quiet buzz out there and the guy that Jamie, I know you want to speak with too. Julio Jones. Yes. Is there it? What's going on? And I think I want to see how he fits. Yes. And I'll defer to you on what you were as far as what we're expecting to see, but I just, from what we've seen already in training camp, there's like this bubbling thing of like, no one's talking about him, please, but awesome. And I went down this road with Julio, was a Titan, and I saw it, and there was injuries, and it wasn't all about, does Julio Jones have anything left to the tank? I would be curious to see what he does against real live action defense. Whether it's scripted or not, there's going to be actual defenders out there. Maybe the best defensive backfield in football in Miami. Well, here's my thing about Julio Jones. I have this working theory that you look at a Seattle, and you have those two excellent wide receivers in Seattle, but whose throw them the ball. Now you have Julio Jones. You know what he's capable of. You know the kind of season he had in Atlanta. I'm gonna forget Julio Jones two with the Titans. It just didn't happen for him. Let's go back to when he was with the falcons. So to consider what Julio Jones could do. But what I love about this situation for Julio and Tampa Bay is that they don't need him to be that guy. And it's almost like it would be a pleasant surprise if he, let's say throughout 1200 receiving yards in a season, but they don't need him to be that they need him to be enough to let the other guys grow. They need him to be enough to give Tom Brady an option when he really needs something badly. So it's this perfect marriage of perhaps what Tom Brady needed in an offense where he needed a veteran wide receiver, but also such an awesome quarterback to be throwing to this guy who just needed to find a home in Julio Jones, perhaps has found it in San Francisco. It could be the fourth wide receiver. Yeah. And that means your fourth DB or a nickelback is covering. I mean, Twitter Jones. Mike mcdaniel is an offensive head coach who's never really got to hold over defensive coordinator and Josh Boyer, who was there from rope from Flores regime. What's the dynamic and is mcdaniel going to be one of these guys that can dictate, hey,

"Started one in 7, they flirted with seller dwelling metrics. The final 9 games of the season obviously coinciding with a schedule that lightened up considerably. They were second in points per game allowed forth in passing yards per game second in total yards per game and third in third down defense. Now, when you look at the schedule of opposing offenses, at least on the surface pane, I don't have access to your metrics, but it does look like it's going to be significantly more challenging for this group. They're going to have to raise their level of play right out of the gates against the New England Patriots. Your spot on and that's why Mike mcdaniel kept defensive coordinator Josh Boyer for continuity purposes with how they ended last season. I like his defensive style, which is very much aggressive. Mike mcdaniel, Josh Boyer likes to confuse offenses by moving guys around pre snap and that makes it difficult to know where blitzers are coming from post nap. We know Boyer loves to send heat. Miami sent pressure at the second highest rate in the league last season, nearly 40% of snaps. I'm interested to see if Jalen Phillips grows in year two and then you mentioned adding Melvin Ingram, knowing van ginkel accumulated a 15% pressure rate on pass rush snaps and then a manual log, but finally reaching his potential. If the blitz will be relied upon as much this season. You hinted at this at the top. Miami goes from facing the worst schedule of passing offense to a fringe top ten schedule of passing offenses. And better offense will make you pay a little bit more when you send heat, regardless of how good your corners are. Christian Wilkins and Zach seiler were solid run stuffers graded out two of the better interior linemen and league last season. Those two combined for a 13% stop rate on run place. Overall, Miami's defense was top ten and run stop win rate. Now, Miami does need to do a better job as tacklers in the run game and across the board. The greatest 26th in tackling and bottom ten in miss tackles. I think what we're all waiting for here is Miami's defense to go from a good defense, a fringe top ten defense to becoming elite. And looking at how xavien Howard and Byron Jones played last season, both clearly have another gear. And if Miami wants to get to that elite status, both those guys have to start playing like the paycheck. But ultimately, I think if Miami can replicate last season's production while going from the 30s schedule of offenses to a projected top ten schedule, that's a massive win here. The continuity is there. The talent is there. The versatility has been on display when Josh Boyer goes with some of his three safety lineups. We've talked highly about Jay von Holland. There's a possibility after this season. He is talked about as one of the best safeties in all football. His versatility is just through the roof. You can line them up in the slot and he can cover. You can put them on the end and he can rush. You can stick them in the back and play free safety and come down in the box and be a thumper. He can return buns as well. Then you pair him with Brandon Jones and Eric Rowe. This was interesting because we knew Miami's defense was a little bit lacking in the linebacker room. That's the weakness. There's not a ton of depth there. Boyer used nearly 200 snaps with that trio of safeties on the field at the same time. Holland Jones in a row. By only gave up 4.8 yards per play when they went with that three safety look. So there's a lot of versatility. There's a lot of chess pieces that can be moved around here. I also think the defense comes in feeling less pressure in 2022. The need to be relied upon as much. I think subsides with a better offense now that Mike mcdaniel has run in the show. Do you want to take the victory lap for Holland now? Because he was a player coming into the draft that you were extremely high, and I knew you were thrilled when the dolphins had but the same time. I do wonder if part of you feels a little bit conflicted, having to heap such praise on a player who played his college football out on the West Coast. So he was supposed to be a first round pick, like a middle first round pick, but sat out that final year at Oregon and there was some question marks with him, but ultimately that was a guy, this organization wanted to play that minka Fitzpatrick role, but was also willing to be moved around. And that was the one thing minka Fitzpatrick did not want. Didn't want to be moved around the defense. One position. Jay von hollands accepted that role and just fantastic when you watch him. Let's see ultimately what comes of his season. But one of the best rookies across the board last year. Should be a fun dolphins team to watch to your point. We know there are a lot of offensive difference makers there can have a fantasy impact as well. When you look at the dolphins schedule, it'll be fasting to see what the second half of the year looks like because the dolphins do have a week ten by week 11. They get a home game against the Houston Texans. And then what could be a defining stretch of opponents, they'll play three straight row games two on the West Coast at the forty-niners at the Chargers. They'll head to western New York play at the bills, a home game against the packers. So very interesting team to watch, no doubt about it. Clearly, the talent has been upgraded with an offensive minded head coach. It should pay significant dividends. "Team last year they dug themselves such a hole, they weren't able to overcome it. And we now have Mike mcdaniel steps in as a head coach and offensive minded individual who comes from the Kyle Shanahan coaching tree. And when you look at the way this dolphins team is being talked about, a lot of reason for optimism, given all of the expenditures that they made to bring in game breakers to pair with two on the offensive side. It's always interesting to see how that matriculates as the off season continues to move forward, right? The betters that are getting out ahead are quietly high on the dolphins. And then some more money starts to come in and now all of a sudden we're starting to ramp up and the dolphins are becoming quite popular, which is interesting to me. Listen, no single offense in the NFL. Had greater change for the good this off season than the Miami Dolphins. Let's see what the execution looks like. But going from a defensive minded head coach that hated the starting quarterback to an offensive mind and Mike McDaniels who, if you've heard Kyle Shanahan talk about him, he profusely claims to be the best offensive mind he's ever worked with. That is very high praise and a massive upgrade. From a personnel standpoint, I think it's easiest to start from the inside work our way out. It's very clear, Chris Greer understood that Miami's offensive line was horrific. They granted out the worst and past protection and finished dead last and past block win rate despite facing a bottom 5 schedule of patch rushing defenses. So he goes out signs the best left tackle in free agency with Toronto Armstead. Armstead was a guy that only allowed a four and a half percent pressure rate last season. Connor Williams, a former second round pick. He's made huge strides, improved each of the last four seasons. He's versatile can play guard, tackle in a pinch and now center. Although there's been some early camp snap problems there. But Connor Williams gave up less than a two and a half percent pressure rate last season. Robert hunt has proven to be a solid guard. He's now entering your three came into camp in the best shape of his life. You have Liam eichenberg. He can slide to a position. He was actually drafted to play. And that's guard. But Miami forced The Rookie to play tackle last season. He was in way over his head. And then there's been some rave reviews about Austin Jackson's revamped body. He was drafted as a 19 year old. It was clear it was going to take some time, but apparently Jackson's taken well to the new scheme and because of that, it just really fits his skill set a little bit more. Running back room was affordably upgraded from two undrafted backs to now proven talent. You have chase Edmonds, Raheem Moser, who's familiar with mcdaniel system and Sony Michelle. None of those contracts are extensive in years or money. And I would fully expect an increased run rate from Miami this season as they try to recreate this forty-niners offensive identity and because Miami is projected to face the bottom 5 schedule of run defenses this season. Then you look at the pass game. Obviously starts with tua, he's two and a half years removed from a career threatening hip injury. To us as he feels stronger, he's more confident and word is there's more zip on the ball. No matter what you think about tua and there is this negative narrative there because it's clear Justin Herbert's better. But that doesn't mean it's not capable. The one thing that we've really kind of lauded to for is accuracy. And I think we'll see that on display more this season when the enhanced offensive philosophy and past catchers are just way better than what he's dealt with in the past. Even last year, to a managed to finish top ten in completion percentage above expectation while having the highest rate of tight window throws. So he's throwing into the most traffic and he's still top ten in completion percentage above expectation. It's really tough to do. You think about two first two seasons in the league, and he has three offensive coordinators. Chan gailey year one who's old. And last season, there was a dual coordinator system. Shortened concise to describe Chan gailey's offensive philosophy. Old, outdated. Neither of the coordinators last year knew it was calling plays until ten days before the regular season started. And then that changed after four weeks. Just an epic disaster from Brian Flores, who had a new OC every single year he was with the dolphins in his final year head to. And two is 2020 rookie season. He's battling the hip injury. He's focused on recovery there more than learning the system. We mentioned Chan gailey. On top of Chan gailey, he's throwing to the likes of devonte Parker, jakeem grant Isaiah Ford and an undrafted miles gaskin out of the backfield. Those were four of the top 5 targeted weapons that season. This year, two is going to have receivers that can separate with tyreek waddle and Wilson. And then you have a solid pass catching tight end and get sicky. And just that exchange from Parker to Tyreke is massive. Tyrique was top 7 and adjusted yards above replacement. Devonte Parker was 74th. Parker was dead last in separation at 1.7 yards. Tyreke 3.6 yards of separation per outrun last season. Waddell is going to make the year two leaps. Simply because he's not going to be the target of every defensive coordinator's game plan. Cedric Wilson is projected to be Miami's third receiver. Last season performance wise, wide receiver three was Albert Wilson for the dolphins. Albert Wilson was 76th in adjusted yards above replacement, Cedric Wilson, 27th, and Wilson averaged 3.5 yards of separation. This receiving core is completely night and day from a season ago. I'm also interested to see how you said he's used a little bit, right? He's not an inline tight end like a kittle because he can't block. So if you look at his snap distribution over 92% of his routes were from the slot or out wide, what I'm hearing is that's why the dolphins tagged him and didn't commit long-term before seeing how he fits in Mike mcdaniel's offense. But undoubtedly is a nice weapon to have at tight end nearly three yards of separation per route run last season. That's very good for a tight end. Miami faces a schedule of defenses. That's projected to be just average overall and against the past. This is a big stock arrow up for the dolphins offense. I really thought we were going to save the Devante Parker slander until we broke down in New England Patriots, but I'm glad we got it out there early talking about separation and some of the things he didn't offer up for that dolphins offense. You obviously mentioned jaylen waddle. His 104 catches last year was the most by a rookie in league history, three better than what anquan boldin did previously back in 2003. That represented 24% of targets among all dolphins wide out. So you want to talk about a kid to your point who has the chance to really blow the ceiling off, waddle would be one of those guys this season. And it is funny when you talk about narratives as far as professional sports are concerned specifically around two in this case. The way most NFL Talking Heads make it sound is that Justin Herbert is Michael Jordan and the dolphins having two as like drafting Sam Bowie, one pick ahead of him. Let's pump the brakes a little bit there. I think watching him with an offensive line that hopefully can keep him upright being surrounded by weapons will be a much better indication of exactly what to it can be and how they can maximize his skill set in a Mike McDaniels let offense. As far as the dolphins defense, Josh Boyer, of course, the one calling shots there. They add Melbourne Ingram on the edge. You lose Justin Coleman and Jason McCourty in the secondary. And this was a dolphins team that kind of had a tale of two seasons. When they started one in 7, they flirted with seller dwelling metrics.

"To the league salary cap numbers, but they're just never right. And they're never updated. Jason it over the cap does the lord's work. It actually puts in the effective cap space, so we don't have to sit there with, you know, calculators for half of our day. So God bless you, Jason. Thank you. But yeah, Miami is really interesting to me because Mike McDaniels, their new head coach, is Kyle Shanahan's run guru and has been forever and is sort of the secret sauce behind that outside zone offense. I think there's a big reason why you saw the forty-niners run out and get Anthony Lynn who actually was a running back in that offense to try to replace him and get some of that institutional knowledge back. But here's what I'm looking for and I'm curious kind of your take on this, like when we saw Kyle, when we saw Kyle going to San Francisco, they were super aggressive in free agency, but in weird places, right? Like they needed Kyle used check, right, to make everything work. When we saw Matt Lafleur go to Green Bay, they wanted guys like marcedes Lewis. And there's all these very specific players that they need that are extremely important. Like if marcedes Lewis got hurt, the packers would have been SOL. And if Kyle used check got hurt, in addition to George kittle, the forty-niners would have won like four games last year. And I think that there are these players that they desperately depend on to make the outside zone work and I'm really interested to see now because Nathaniel Hackett's got a job somewhere. Mike mcdaniel's got a job somewhere. Like, half the league is running this offense now. And the other half is trying to still figure out how to run it without any of the guys to run it, basically. It's like you can go back 6 years and look at what happened to the Seattle defense. You know, getting those long cornerbacks who weren't necessarily burners, but the long arm guys were kind of the market inefficiency. They had found with that covered three style defense that they played. And then as we move through kind of the late 2010s, everyone kind of wanted those guys, not literally everyone, but most teams wanted those guys. Now that's a little more broad because cornerback is just sort of a purely reactionary position and being being a big guy is helpful anyway. But it is really interesting because there's, I mean, and I guess that's kind of the problem with picking off the coaching tree. You want to do it, but at the same time it's like, okay, well, now we have to get those kinds of players in here, and there are only so many of them. There are only so many Kyle used chicks. There are only so many. I mean, even the offensive lineman who, you know, they need those quick nibble offensive linemen. The forty-niners have kind of a loose sort of metric analytics sort of approach to what they're looking for as far as size and some of the testing numbers in their offensive lineman. And there's only, there's only so many of those guys out there. Yeah, and what's really interesting to me, I mean tight end is so it's so central to this whole thing, right? And I'm looking at you look at the free agent list that you have so artfully put together for our website. And the best, I don't know. I mean, where are the great, where are the great blocking tight ends on this list? I mean, Dalton Schultz, but other than that, you know, I don't really know where you're going. And that is something you have to have. So I'm thinking about like mcdaniel and David and, not really a blocker. Either. So I don't know, you're going to spend, you can plunk $14 million on the table for Dalton Schultz. Are you going to CJ uzama is probably someone that I like as a blocker and absolutely destroyed some people in the Bengals backfield this year. But other than that, there's no, it's hard to come from George kittle, who basically revolutionized the position. And I'm not saying that Mike mcdaniel is not going to be able to figure it out. But I'm just saying you do need these certain guys and are all these guys going to be bidding against one another for the sort of the scraps on the market. What was the Moneyball, the movie? What was the guy who threw funny, the reliever, the submarine reliever? Oh, I should know this because his actual baseball. And I used to know baseball back then. But I didn't know it. Bradford? Oh, Chad Bradford, yeah. Chad Bradford, yeah, so now we're all looking for Chad Bradford. Instead of just having a bunch of Chad Bradford's lying around, you know? Oh man, it's not a good band name. It's good album name though. We're all looking for Chad Bradford. Just like a morose woodsy cover, you know. But I don't know, 'cause this team needs a lot of work, right? Just taking a look at the roster, you're an awful. I mean, Brian Flores got blown up during this whole thing, but like Chris Greer could not put an offensive line together in 7 years. This is a bad offensive line. It's not a good offensive line. It's still not a good offensive line. You're okay at wide receiver. You're pretty decent on the back end of your defense, but that was also because Brian Flores was your coach. And the half of your defensive line is pretty bad, you know? Half of it's pretty good. So, but if I'm Mike mcdaniel, it's like, okay, well none of this works if we can't run the ball. So that's like one and one a is like we have to figure out how to make this happen. Yeah, it's gonna be a really interesting there. And it is a good point with the defensive line. I mean, they held together pretty well defensively last year, and they are keeping Josh Boyer there, but gosh, a lot of this was sort of Brian Flores in his creativity and the way they sort of worked around the fact that they don't have dynamic guys. I mean, it's a page read style defense. They didn't invest big money to get sort of the game changing superstar type of pass rushers that you have in a lot of spots. So you have to come up with different solutions there. And we'll see what happens defensively. But yeah, that offensive line is just circled and starred and highlighted and however else you want to do it because they've just they've with time and time again in the draft. And now you probably got to go out and shop in free agency or this is supposed to be you're trying to get a read onto a tongue of Iowa before you have to decide to commit or not commit and they're committed to them for this year..

"So I am interested. My interest is peaked. You mean like the backup of Volvo? Volkswagen. Was that a movie or is it like, yeah, we made out in an uncomfortable place and they're like back up a Volkswagen? He's getting the football and uncomfortable places. All right, so I got John. Dolphins. Quick chatter about the dolphins. What do you think about what the Patriots will see on Sunday four 25 kick? Yeah, I think the most useless thing is over analysis and week one because we have no idea what we're going to see. You can't show anything out the preseason. Don't give me the film. Don't do any of that stuff. I mean, look, Austin Jackson, they're left tackles and COVID-19, shaheen's and COVID-19, one of their tight ends. They're starting a rookie at left guard. I think I can burgers pretty good. Second rounder. But man, that's against this front. That's a tall tat with tua, who's not exactly mister, you know, mister stoic, you know, but in the pocket and you're gonna sit back there and confident in his reads and his blocking. So look, they have a ton of talent. I think this is gonna be a team that's gonna be better in the second half of the season. I think that they have a ridiculous secondary that I think is gonna be pretty good. I mean, Jason McCourty is playing free safety though. So look for them to target him on a few things. But rose pretty good Justin Coleman is back former patriot. I loved him here. I loved him in Detroit, Byron Jones, saving Howard. But to me, I think one of the big storylines in this game, Nick is the dolphins because Brian Flores can't make a decision on who he wants to be offensive coordinator for more than 6 seconds. Is now going with, yeah, this works all the time. The double offensive coordinator with George God, my guy, George godsey, who I spent a lot of time with when I did the Houston Texans game plan story was Bill O'Brien's offense corner. Love godsey. He's very smart. I could see him as a future OC here. And Eric, stews ville, who is mostly I think a run game. He was an interim coach with the Broncos. I think maybe after McDaniels got fired. But anyways, yeah, the double coordinator works wonders like, you know, after firing people left and right. Now he's going with the double guys. That's going to be an issue in Josh Boyer against Mick Josh McDaniels. But, you know, Boyer is the dolphins defense corner, former secondary coach here with the Patriots. That is an intellectual mismatch if I've ever seen one, and now that Josh McDaniels actually has tools, I expect him to win the day that way. So I like the Patriots pretty good in this game. The good co OC, the double mint gum approach to their offensive coordinator. I pretty much everything you just said..

"People often ask me of prosecuting. The mob is like the movies. There is violence. He cracks his guys over the head. And pop. Just like a melon pop. There are hits so it wasn't just permission to to take a map permission to take out his own nephew but after taking down over one hundred mobsters. I can tell you this. The real thing is much more interesting. I'm elliot hoenig former mob prosecutor and host of the new podcast up against the mob up against the mob lifts the veil on the world's most secretive criminal organization cosa nostra. Listen and follow up against the mob on apple podcasts. Spotify or your favorite podcast app number. Seven jake know what egg monogamy continues to struggle. This really hurts especially for some of us fans who wanted a jk dob one of those fancy running backs maybe a senator your your twenty one year old corner continues to fall down the depth chart and you know i. It's it's not. it's not that big deal. When you got byron jones we got exhibiting howard's air but when he can't beat out a nickname when he's you know being supplanted by justin coleman who yes. He's that veteran presence. Yes he's that guy you know understands floors defense. No l. accounts are gonna go out. There make plays it. You just wanna see more out and we saw me at one pass. Breakup in preseason. Yeah we look good at times but no ebony twenty years i wanna see more adam j what about you. Yes definitely be nice. I mean he had a lot of opportunities there in the preseason to at least give us something ed i don't think we if you beat out. It was awesome if he doesn't beat out Bedroom justin cullen. But it'd be nice to kind of see him flash there. In having a couple of big moments. I guess he was pretty solid against the bengals replied played sixty seven snaps neil allowed to catches on his five targets against in general hilo thirteen receptions on nar nine targets for one hundred two yards jazz. You're right be kinda wanna see little more at you. Gotta wonder where he's gonna see that opportunity. He's listed as a boundary quarterback behind byron jones. I justin coleman nikki user guys who i think we're gonna see often really brings up the question if you're not saying former first rounder in his second year You start to get concerned. I guess the big question. And that's you know that's where we're joined with here because we're sitting here talking about how he maybe should be able to be just maybe should be able to be on nickname but you draft him in the first round. You know. this is the second year you want to see your first round draft pick. Go out there and be able to plant some of those guys. So i do think it's a little bit concerning but we go back to the michael jeter thing like we just talked about this a twenty one year. Old cornerback has all. The physical tools is with. Josh boyer is with brian floors. If there's any coaching staff that can turn this guy into a superstar. It's dolphins but at this point you gotta feel a little bit concerned for. His development moved for little concern about his the for sure. But josh at the same time i mean maybe there's too many cooks in the kitchen. I mean josh. Nick need of his looking so much better that he did a year ago. He had a seventy nine pro. Football focus grade in week one. I'm more than twenty coverage snaps. I he had pass breakups on slants twice an eight-year slot receiver. You're going over the middle one of the hardest jobs in football. He seems to be pretty solid. Especially as an undrafted guy. It's it's been kind of great to see developed. He played five snaps the slot week to at any hopped outside with byron jones. Exhibit howard. bus. The game josh. What have you seen data Because he's someone who's going to get the ball thrown out of right. You have byron. Jones yet exhibiting howard. He's someone who's going to the ball thrown his way quarterback test their lack. Ed he seems to be the one. Who's making more than the quarterback man. I think you could argue. You know plan nickel quarterly. Nfl might be the hardest position play. 'cause you're pretty much on the island against noah tight end against some of those speedy receivers. So you can go anywhere nick. Needham i mean this is a guy van favorite. We know the story. You know undrafted worked his way his ass off basically but i mean he just looks like a different player. Jackie don't know if it's because he was getting ready because exerting howard told out you just don't know if it's because again they had what fourteen fifteen sixteen. Db's at one time. I mean this is the group that you did kind of see the cream rise to the top you did see a nickname start to stand out above the rest and and that's just what you wanna see. I don't care if it's him. I don't care if it's i really don't care if it's no eggnog. Any i know you know as hard as that is to say as long as you're going out there and you got your best players out there i mean. Is there a better. May i'm going to say. Is there a better tandem in the nfl than byron jones. Exuding howard nick needham. I mean that's a pretty damn good trio of corners and It's just a testament to how well nickname has developed this season despite playing much in the is going to be a battery receiver. At least it seems like that. Early on being listed behind. Fired jones exhibited howard. Josh i do have to say. Justin coleman is listed starting slot corner with freshly signed elisa campbell behind him cohen. Kind of seemed like one of those guys who you could kinda just plugging play. You do be fit right away. He seems like a perfectly. Chris bosh type player. Where if he's your best cornerback. I don't really know how are you're gonna get but as your number three having. He could take advantage of every opportunity that comes his way. But just we know we. Just these rosters these charts. They changed so often who plays more snaps snacks. This season justin comment or nydia victim. I think it's got to be nicknamed him. I think again you know what he did in preseason and the nichols spot and again i think you know. This is just reindeer games with the dolphins Sense i mean anybody that looks at depth. Chart gets mad because jay phillips third down the list or a rea- someone else's listed above another person. This is brian for his defensive. All those different multiple looks With all those different fronts. I mean i'm not put too much stock to this. I'm gonna go.

"Safety out of oregon. You know high draft. Pick a gun. The dolphins brought in here got rid of bobby mccain. How is he going to handle. You knew that game situation because what we've heard all these long you know throughout training camp. I mean we heard what three interceptions and four practices think he picked off any for pick six also. I won't justin feels reportedly. So i mean how devan holland gonna go out there. How's he going to get those. The rest of that secondary in place. And you know do some of those things that have veteran linked bobby mccain did and then you also have here brandon jones. I mean again. A young safety started four games last year against the patriots chargers denver and the patriots again played thirty eight percent of teams snaps. And you also have your jason mccourty is currently has started and i think you know a lot of that is because he is a veteran presence. He has got it understands. His defense can get those you know the corners and the rest of that defense align a little bit better than obviously a rookie but again if giovane holland do half the things that we continue to hear that. He's doing a camp. I mean that just seems like a homerun cy a homerun draft pick and you know when so many people wanted to running back. It was like so against the grain for the dolphins to go that route again. We're already hearing. That's paying dividends. All bite in practice yet just. I wanted to bear. Branded joins me by him. In different players the vet that jones started or played thirty eight percents snaps last season. Just kinda gave me the idea of. What can we expect from. How how'd you know have written down here. How long japan. How would be held out. We don't know how much is going to be eased in the system. We don't know of brantford. Simply just trust a veteran jason mccranie back there on the secondary so if he keeps making these blaze we know he's going to be out there quite a bit Is it only a matter of time. Before he takes over that starting gig or he becomes. Maybe that third safety does or do you think it's a situation where these according brandon jones are going to have have this role until holland you know. It's those thirty percents. Nassar's starts random game because of injury where he can really grabble of position. Where where do you see him. Really starting to make it impacts this here. Yeah that's the million dollar question. Probably one that. Only brian floors and josh boyer knows. I mean. if there's any you know defense that evolves around versatility no getting these different guys in situations. I mean that's prime floors defense. So i can't sit here and truly say i do think he's going to be that. Starting you know quote unquote free safety sooner or later but a mile down here and i brought it up before you know in two thousand nine hundred and played five hundred ninety one snaps at nickel corner in the slot. So you know. How much of that does brian. Flora's you know. Try to implement this year so a lot of different things. Yeah a lot of different things you can do there and i even joke you know. He's the anti mix. Patrick you know some of the knox against winker. I guess the whole reason. He's no longer here is because you know he didn't want to drop down the box. Go against a run and take on some of those blocks. I mean that's what you see. Which von hahn on tape so I do think this is going to be a guy that again no disrespect to bobby mccain. But i think which von holland bruce on tape. You know the range from silent silent. I think this is going to be that. Ball hawking free safety. And i'm pretty damn excited jake. I have no idea how this secondary is gonna shape out especially with those safeties. 'cause i mean we got mccourty got row. We got jones. You know and now we've got holland. I mean you name them. Even byron jones complacent safety right. It got got a great point there. Josh moving on it is the free season. The preseason to panic. That's what we're here for to get a little excited fantasy a sprinkle on some panicking and a little layer of doubt in how good your team's gonna be many really. Have the preseason. Bundle up for you. So josh i gotta ask win. Can we start panicking about the offensive line because you have leave. I can guilt with injuries. the dj fluker thing. I mean we've talked. We've talked about that to her balloon. The face That probably have been the miami dolphins two biggest injuries so far this season and everyone's kind of been under the impression that the dolphins are struggling a little bit. Brexit's the baker's but the bears have one of the better front sub into the league not necessarily trying to doubt that but when you look at their numbers last year they sacked opposing quarterbacks thirty times thirty five times Last year right in the middle of the pack leaks meanwhile khalil. Mack is one of the greatest edge rushers in the league outside linebacker. I mean the dolphins offensive line. Tomorrow night should be able to manage absolves right. There should be like the first team should be taken up field because offensive line gave up two false starts. And there's a fumbled snap as it. Right what is our standard for the offensive line when they play the bears. Yeah i mean. I really wish i could sit here and talk us off a ledge and say that everything's gonna be okay but i don't know that i can't jake. I mean you ask. When time to panic. I mean it is time to start feeling a little bit uneasy because again we mentioned is a lot of young players but nfl. You know it's one loss in the trenches and and this offensive line can't go out there and open up some of those holes can't protect to. It's going to be a long season. But i'm glad you brought up blankenburg because i think i alluded to it on the last podcast. No he was demoted. Is actually an injury. So now you have him yet believe. Jessie davis banged up. You know i heard some people say panky was taken reps or right tackle. I mean. I don't know what the dolphins had planned. In mind. You know when they obviously. Dj fluker obviously. They had to like jesse davis. If the worst case scenario. So i i do understand their plan but at the same time you know to think that you're gonna be able to go out there. And that is your best bet to protect. In your franchise quarterback that does make me feel a little bit uneasy and then you mentioned the center position. I mean that is up in arms. We brought him matt scurr. You know michael dealers taken over that role again. I don't know if that's good or bad. So i wanna see how they handle the defensive line for sure but I'm not going to say that you know i mean. I think you're trying to say that it shouldn't be as bad as you know it could be. But if we've learned anything in the past you know it's definitely going all inspire and it's gonna look you know doom and gloom and it's going to be all we're talking about is horrid offensive line day long for weeks. Can we named this episode. It shouldn't be as bad as it could be because that is sixty really is. It's our story of her life. That is incredible. Kind of the point. You know. I just don't wanna be setting year later tonight. I don't wanna be sitting here waiting till next week's game saying that. Well the offensive line. Excuse x. y. and z. I think that if the dolphins are showing concerns here week. One of the preseason. It doesn't mean they won't fix it. It doesn't mean they didn't have a plan in place Plan doesn't work in those. Are the doubt start tab and just these two are linked here so switching over. Can we see any big plays from the running back group and this one. I found myself into a little whole job so you may get a little mad with me. The listeners might get a little bit of me year. Specifically we we know of miles. Gas in canada brings to the table each week. And you know having been fantasy. Add just see those stats. We know the numbers you're gonna get every week. It's somewhere around. Like eight carries for forty three yards and the fiber such as for for sixty seven yard touchdown. And that's great that's exactly what the delta z. For miles gas. They need that consistency. Need those yards. They can take. He can really get the outside. I don't think that even if the dolphins whatever their plan is at offensive line works out..

"So i think it's really interesting that i mean. It did seem like the dolphins were playing hard ball through and through. But you know josh that brings up the real question here with exhibit howard signed with him. Happy without with him out there practicing Go look at the dolphins twitter instagram. he's already thrown up the highlights. That's exactly what we expect. Exactly why he's in a position to be asking for more money. But who do you think gains the most with exhibiting howard being back in the fold you mentioned dick needham you mentioned knowing monogamy who is the who gains the most. Obviously the dolphins secondary in general is so much better but who specifically would you say if you had to pick one person gained the most with him being out there. Yeah i was gonna say josh boyer and really just give you the most cliche answering entire world. But i mean i. I'm not going to say one specific player. But i almost think it's at defensive. Line up front you know. We mentioned how they're jalen phillips how they needed to creep pressure if exuding howard was out a lineup you know what he brings that secondary what that allows those guys up front that more time to get to the quarterback so i i can't say her name you know andrew van gingko or you know requ on davis or whichever guide is but i think as a unit you know that defensive pass rush out front is going to be much better when you have examining how. I'm byron jones. Only outside trying to clamp those receivers down what about you jay. I'm going to go with kind of cliche answer. But i'm i wanted to say chris greer because you kind of think about it especially the way. The dolphins operated this off season you know. Kyle van noy shock. Loss of these guys who weren't necessarily too happy to be moved on from in miami kyle. Benoy noise specifically and this idea started You know kind of balloon over that. The dolphins don't treat their players. Well the exergen howard thing made it even worse that you know they treated just like a business and i players aren't gonna wanna come here yada yada yada. Of course people started to spend it like that But by chris greer and really making this deal doing something that david kanter said. He didn't expect to happen That makes him look like a stronger. Gm and on top of that josh. He looks like an even better gm because it means no but that could be. I'm field nearly as much so we have to kind of point out that he's a first round pick who really hasn't done too much. He hasn't really shined too much in camp. Obviously you know game and practice or two totally different things but you know. I'll joking aside. I think this does kind of help egg monogamy where he's going to get opportunities where he can succeed right. That's what makes brand floor such a strong coach general. He knows what players are good at and he can put them in a situation where they can really rely on their towns their traits their skills so i wonder here with howard being there as that boundary quarter byron jones that other boundary corner all of a sudden you got monogamy and nick needham you can throw in. Depending on the different types of third and four receivers. We might see on the field at any given day. Another interesting note. Is i believe the dolphins are actually working out cornerback. Yesterday or two days ago. So i mean that's still unit that they're trying to bring in some depth but you're absolutely right. Jake i mean this just overall for the miami dolphins as an organization you know and also for the player i mean this is honestly a win win situation and you know you. We both mentioned who might benefit from this. But let's go one step further and talk about the receivers because when you're going there and you're matching up against saving howard. You know maybe those are so match ups that are just going to be a little bit more intense. You know a little bit more intense. I don't know if you saw. Jay keenan allen sterling james i believe it was pro football focus or may was the los angeles chargers official count like. They tweeted out that matchup. And you see those guys going back and forth niche. Just you know iron iron. So to hear the saving howard's back net lineup. You know what it does josh for his defense as a whole we obviously know it's gonna pay dividends but then what it does for some those young receivers throughout camp matching up against to be honest one of the best. If not the best corner football should hopefully you know. Make them better overall so jake now that we talked about saving howard now gotten to those details. Let's take a break and jump into the latest news surrounding miami dolphins training camp before they head to chicago for joint practices with the bears. Later this week support for this episode comes from.

"Kobe burset, was brought in as the back up. But, you know, he's not really a threat to win a whole lot of games, if it doesn't work out with two is so they, you know, they're putting all their chips onto a home and I think that that might be a little bit of trouble. Now, look, he's going to have a lot to throw to. He's got DeVante Parker, get sick. He's a good tight end. They brought in will Fuller and drafted Jaylen waddle. So there is Talent there depends on how much you believe in will Fuller. I don't believe in will Fuller very much. Just his hamstring is bound to pop at some point and he'll be down for three or four games. He's all about Suspended per week. One for Peds. He has not played more than 11 games since his rookie season. That's a lot to bet on that guy. I will say ninja about the Dolphins. I think their defense is excellent. Even with Josh Boyer as the defensive coordinator there, who I'm not, the biggest fan of that, there's a lot of Talent on that defense on all three levels. They are a little bit leaky against the run and I think the Patriots stealing Davon godchaux from them was key and you know, might weaken them a little bit. But the offensive line in basically we're going to say it for almost all three of these other teams. And this is where I think the Patriots have a big Advantage. I think that they, if you look at all the teams in the division and you stacked them all up, you would say the Patriots are far and above the best offensive line. And now with all the, all the changes they made in the offseason. Yep. Might be the best up front on the defensive line and if you believe in that and I do, that's a good sign for the Patriots cuz I don't think the Dolphins offensive line is very good..
