"His way to a club record. 16 strikeouts September 30th, 2009 at Turner field against the braves. Or Pepsi trivia question tonight That's a tough one. Dansby Swanson takes a strike. Only reason why is because there's been some prolific strikeout guys to put on Marlon jerseys. You think about you mentioned AJ Burnett, Josh Beckett, Josh Johnson, Kevin Brown. Carl pavano. Fernández. Jose Fernández never had more than 14 in a game. Nobody else has ever had more than 14 rookie had 16. There's a swing and a foul tipping of the catchers meant we had a couple of 14 K games, including one earlier this year against the braves by sandy Alcantara. Was outlier a punch out guy at that point of his not a huge strikeout guy, but he rang up some case. Mark Burley would sneaky rack up some keys every once in a while. To the Swanson is outside and of all. Brad penny, yep. Big old curve ball. If you think about the franchise and the history on the mound, they've got a very good history on the mound. But never assign award winner, maybe that ends this year. One two pitch missed away to Swanson. Who's your favorite former Marlins to watch pitch? Jose Fernández. Okay. That's an easy one. Yeah. From my time here, Josh Johnson is another guy who comes to mind when Josh was in his prime boy was he good. Dansby swats

"But part of the reason why I'm kind of in on this too is, I think they made a mistake going back to 13 pitchers. Like 13, you're only going to see more of this stuff right now. I just don't think based on short spring training and the Weibo pens are used. I don't think 13 pictures is going to work. I understand you're trying to force to get more length, but I would say in the short term, it's going to really going to lead to some ugliness. So you could end up having a walk off situation in a mercy rule type setting. I just, I don't like it when we're in a space where it's kind of this non competitive thing where guys are just flipping the ball in there. And everybody's sort of smiling. Here's the other thing too, is that the position players are up there, they don't want to throw their bats away. It's an opportunity for them to get a hit every single thing is getting measured. That's one of the things that all of this that's changed is that everything is evaluated, that that's the difference between now and 30 years ago. And you think it's the same, but it's not. You think that a ten one game is the same, but it is not. It's not even close because 30 years ago, the umpires weren't being evaluated this way. And so the strike zones started to balloon. The game moved. Everybody was in on it that was on the field. The offense and the defense. They understood what was happening. But now, a ten one game is being basically executed in the same way as a ten 9 game or two one game. It's two O there's a hitter up there. He's a good hitter and a position player flips one in that's this far off the plate that the umpire calls the strike. And the guy at the plate gets pissed off. In a ten one game. But it's because they know they're being evaluated on every single pitch. The players are, they are connected on what they're being evaluated on. And so nobody throws a bat so I'm maybe I shouldn't say nobody. Guys don't throw it bats away the way they used to. They don't. Like whatever old school stuff you want to say in blowout games, guys would throw at bats away. They don't throw it bats away now. And so on the one hand, they're all trying to sort of get their numbers, but in the end, if you have a guy throwing 65 miles an hour, it ceases to be the thing that we came there to watch. Taylor, I often bring you in to be the voice of the fan. What would you think about a mercy rule after, say, 7 innings book said if the difference in score was about 7 runs? Oh yeah, all in on that. I mean, this is the novelty is worn off. Everyone's over it. I think, except for maybe the people like booth said the people in the stands who have come for the one night and haven't seen this before, but yeah, let's move things along. These games are already long enough. Yeah, and there's probably not a coincidence, but where you mentioned, you know, after the 7th inning and a blood situation, that's usually when they stop selling beer as well. So what do you do in there, right? Time to go home. Fair enough. Because you know the personality hears the by nomination for one of the quotes of the year. Max Scherzer started last night in double-A for Binghamton and after that game, he told reporters I want to be in the big leagues, not a rumble pony. What do you think? Oh, he's awesome. Gosh, smart, interesting, and also really, really honest. That's the thing always with max, right? I mean, I will tell you, could you imagine if you could have only shared two pieces of information with met fans on June 22nd, then Max Scherzer would have started what he started 5 games. Right. That Max Scherzer would have started that much and the Grom hadn't pitched in the mess would be in first place. Like if you only shared that Scherzer in the Grom to pitch that much and then you ask them what would the standings look like met fans would be jumping off the Brooklyn Bridge. And things have gone pretty well. I'm interested to see if he can be healthy and the ground coming back, you know, I was part of the broadcast team in the O three Marlins and one of these subtleties about that year was you think of a storyline at Josh Beckett and that he pitched so well, but Josh had blister problems that year. And so he was on the shelf. So by the time the point is, when he got to the LCS, he was way more fresh than everybody else. And I can't help but wonder with these two guys if there isn't a chance that both Scherzer and de Grom are going to be closer to peak level. I mean, this is way down the line. Closer peak level to postseason and maybe this whole thing could put them in a pretty good space. Yeah, a blessing in disguise. I wouldn't be surprised if Scherzer is next start is in the big leagues. As you know, it's usually a progression about 15 to 20 pitches per start. So he'll be in about 80 pitches next time. And you know if Scherzer tells him it's, hey, I think I'm ready for the big leagues. They're going to listen to him, especially at $43 million a year. And with the Grom, everything you hear, he's making progress. He's throwing the hitters. You're right. If you have those two guys healthy down the stretch, you're in a good spot. That's what the Dodgers have been trying to do over the last 6, 7 years of the Clayton Kershaw to put him in a position to be there in the postseason. I got two more for you. You got about four minutes left. I wrote a piece for ESPN dot com today about, okay, if not the Yankees with Aaron judge for when he becomes a free agent in the fall. And I don't think there's any doubt that's going to happen. There's no sign that they're going to work out even the arbitration case, let alone a long-term deal. If he becomes a free agent, what teams could be interested in, you know, I got a lot of great feedback from around the sport for you, what's a team to watch?.

"The dark side. We were glad to have you here. Good to be with you. Second of all, how did you not know TC that her albums have sold at 55 million copies worldwide in a 40 year career one? I'm told that she is Canada's sweetheart. Okay. Well, you need to many people are listening to some of her content here over the next few female Brian Adams. Come back and let us know what you think next week. I think that that'll be a takeaway for all of us. We should all listen to a few albums. Darcy rossiter said Brooke Henderson at Canadian war earmuffs in 52° weather in Florida as a Canadian should I turn in my passport to the nearest embassy. I put this in here because I want to make this point for those of you that don't know. When you see 52 in Florida, it's damn cold. I grew up in the Midwest. I know cold, okay? It's a different kind of it's a different kind of cold, low 50s in Florida, it sucks. It's four layers. It's beanies. It's the works. Trust me. A 55° day like in the winter in Ohio, you can wear short sleeves. If you get 55 in Florida, it is multiple multiple layers. Kind of like that San Francisco cold. Yeah. You know, it gets in your bones a little bit. Amen. Will we play, I said earlier. We played golf yesterday. It was 40° and windy. We're the only people in the course. Yeah. And it wasn't really raining. It was just like, nobody's nobody was interested in being out there. Nz two AZ yeah, I put this one in there. Sent this one a big onica fan back in the day and know she's a casual golfer these days. But is it kind of scummy she's competing as a celebrity at her home course. She made the cut in the LPG attorney at Nona last year and won U.S. senior women's open. I struggled yeah. Of course. So I went back and forth on this. We must protect the integrity of the celebrity division. Thank God for Derek Lowe winning it. Well, that's what I was. Like, on the one hand, I think it's really funny to see the best woman golfer of all time battling Derek Lowe and like Mark holder. John smoltz, like just going for the same? I think so. I think I didn't see that. That could have been a pretty good equalizer. I mean, I think that that concept right there like very much embodies like Kyle Porter's like normal sport. You know, just like, okay, this is great. You know, high level. And she's going against Larry Fitzgerald who's one of the biggest sandbaggers of all time. Well, they don't do the they don't do the sandbaggers in this one. Isn't it all the celebrities like good players? It seems like the ones that have been smoltz urlacher is nothing. I think is it like Larry cable? I think you're right. You're right. All right, I'm wrong. I'm wrong. Tom Abbott had a great tweet. He went and fished out no pun intended here with Marty fish. The players scores and their handicaps. So Marty fish plays off plus 2.8 and through three rounds. It's basically his tweet was ever wondered how you would fare in an LPG event. Celebs are playing stableford this week, but from the same teas and he said through three rounds, Nelly quarters 13 under, Marty fish a plus 2.8 from the same teas plus 8, Derek Lowe, a .2 plus 6. Alfonso Ribeiro, a .3, I don't know about that one, but he was plus 24. Jack Wagner at 1.1 handicap was plus 16 and Josh Beckett a 2.7 index was plus 27. God, these pitchers play a lot of golf. A lot of golf. Well, but with Annika, on the one hand, I'm like, yeah, that's fun, it's entertaining, but it does feel a little like beneath her. For her to be playing in the celebrity division. Also who cares, but it also. But I saw that question coming. I was like, oh, you know what? I was thinking this. I was struggling with that in my head of where I net out on it. I guess I know that on it doesn't matter. Doesn't this seem like the one which is nothing matters? Who fucking cares? The whole tournament of champions. Thing seems like the easiest event for them to do a co Ed event. With the PGA Tour. Definitely. Super limited fields. You know, you play it, you can play it at capital, and you've got like a course that seems like it would fit LPGA playing styles as well. Kapalua. God damn it. A couple of with no time. Carl guy. All right, let's get to some of the bitching the rest of the bitch thing that happened around the.

"Welcome back to the ink sky yard podcast. The JD drew contract, right? That was a huge failure. But then in 2007, JD drew hit a Grand Slam to bring the Red Sox to the World Series. Can we think of any others? The Red Sox trading Manny Ramirez. Yeah, trading your beds player and franchise history, but no Jason bay's there, and he's somehow better than Manny Ramirez. The Red Sox trade Adrian Gonzalez and Josh Beckett to the Dodgers in a complete fire sale. They're giving up. They're waving the white flag while it doesn't matter. It gives them the financial flexibility to sign 7 bad players in the 2013 off season Shane victorino who was never good again after 2013. Johnny gums, who would never get again after 2013, Mike Napoli, who was never good again after 2013. Koji O'Hara, who was never good again after 2013, and they all lined up to win the 2013 World Series. I am beyond done with Red Sox fans acting as if every time they get a magical break, it is the first time that ever happened. I'm not saying Red Sox fans aren't owed something. Red Sox fans and you're going to want to clip this Red Sox fans. Red Sox fans are a good fan base. They're very passionate about good winning baseball. And when they need to bring the noise, they do. That's good. They are, however, Teflon, nothing sticks to them, they feel no pain and they create their own pain for situations that don't merit pain. And they continue to be rewarded in differing cycles with championship ish endings and good mojo endings. And Yankee fans pour their heart and soul into this team and never end up with the ending. Not it's been it's been 12 years. The regime is the same, the players are different. The regime can reload up to a certain point and pull people together and end up in playoff esque scenarios and end up flatlining again when the moment is at its biggest and brightest. And like I said earlier, I can't wait to see who the Yankees acquire and sign this off season who ends up disappointing while the Red Sox sign or acquire a lesser option who ends up succeeding. That's what I can't wait to. How is Corey Seager going to fail? Is he gonna start swinging and missing more after we sign him? Has Trevor's story gonna fail. Is he gonna sign a 7 year contract and then start arguing with the New York media and then come down with plantar fasciitis? Like, what is the outcome? What's gonna happen? It's always exciting to see. Are the ink he's gonna trade Luke Voight within the American League and he's gonna end up hitting 47 homers for the Oakland a's next year while the Yankees have DJ le mayhew at first base hitting two 64 with 12 homers. Is that what's going to happen? That's pretty interesting. Are they going to trade geo Rochelle? Does somebody want him? And then we're going to go, we have enough infield death. We don't need you or shallow, and then Corey Seager and Andrew Velasquez are the left side of the infield by June. Is that what's going to happen? It's always intriguing, which brings me to Aaron Boone versus not even versus Alex core. Just Aaron Boone in general, who say out like he was gone as soon as this game ended, but then again, this organization only seems to care about getting exactly where they got yesterday..

"You've got a player who's spikes and then disappears off a cliff that there's something going on. There's something whether it's performance enhancement related. Whether there's something going on between the years there has been a change. You don't lose your skill over the course of a year. and it's it's their. The world is littered with baseball players and athletes. Who had one good moment in time like whitney houston with the olympics. And then they're off the map but no one thought that to be the case with bellinger and my concern is is that if he elian bellinger have another bad year in two thousand twenty two then all of a sudden the outlier becomes the mvp year. Where now the out liar is the crappy year. So they've got one more year my opinion to turn it around. If vlad guerrero is not the best player who's been in the marlins uniform who is well he was all of these using an expos uniform me the bat who is actually going to be in a marlins uniform. Vlad guerrero was the trade with john. Henry during the franchise swap out to when john henry wanted to bring josh beckett to the los angeles angels of anaheim. Because that was the original deal we was going to buy the the california angels. we said. that's fine. We're gonna get guerrero to bring with us to florida so guerrero came this close to being a marlin now. Would i have traded josh beckett for vladimir guerrero The answer is. I would have and i would have been wrong because we needed beca to win that world series but you always want to get a position player like guerrero who.

"Up everybody. Welcome back into this segment so as you just heard. We just talked about derek. Jeter play known as the flip and the reason that it really actually happened was because of the nine eleven attacks which we just had the twentieth anniversary of and the start of the playoffs was delayed. In the season's end was extended past these walked over timeframe and because of that the yankees advanced to the two thousand one world series to face the arizona diamondbacks game four mark. The time marked the first time that any non exhibition. Mlb game had been played in the month of november and an extra innings. Jeeter hit a game winning home. Run off of breed. Sheehan kim and the words. Mr november flashed on the scoreboard alluding to the former yankee legend. Reggie jackson whose nickname. Obviously as mr october despite the homerun though jeter slumped the plate he denied injuries. Were factored though a fall into the photographers box. Trying to catch. A foul ball may have aggravated an earlier. Hamstring injury jeeter hit just a buck. Forty eight in the world series as the lost in seven games. Jeter hit two ninety. seven with eighteen. Home runs seventy five. Rbi one hundred and twenty one runs scored one hundred. Ninety one hits career-best thirty two stolen bases. During the regular season. He led the major league in stolen. Base percentage with a ninety one point four percent getting caught only three times and he made his fifth all-star appearance in the two thousand two season. Excuse me the anaheim. Angels defeated the yankees and the lds on the way to winning their world series from two thousand and three to two thousand eight. Is this next section. We're going to be talking about today. On opening day of the two thousand three season jeeter dislocated his left shoulder when he collided with the toronto blue jays. Catcher ken huckabee huckabee. Excuse me at third base and he was placed on the on the dl for six weeks. In ms thirty six games he had never played fewer than hundred and forty games. Prior to in the prior fool seven seasons jeeter returned to bat three twenty four finishing third in batting average to bill to bill mueller. Who had a three twenty six average and manny ramirez. I believe finished second steinbrenner. Then named jeeter. The captain the yankees on june third of two thousand and three following eight seasons out captain after don mattingly retired in one thousand nine hundred five that postseason. Derek jeter batted. Three fourteen with two home runs five. Rbi and ten runs scored across seventeen games including three hits in game. Three of the o. Three world series against the florida. Marlins all the only three hits josh beckett actually allowed during the game jeter committed a crucial air though in the game six loss. And the marlins won the series in six games the yankees then went out to acquire. Alex rodriguez from the texas rangers in the three. Oh four season. Rodriguez had two. Gold gloves are already at shortstop and was considered the best shortstop in baseball derek. Jeter though who had no gold gloves at the time remained the team. Starting shortstop alex rodriguez moved to third. Base rodriguez is fielding range. Allow jeter to succeed. Grand to his right to rodriguez and she to his left. Feeling balls to his left as a weakness in that was identified by scouts. So it was. That was one reason why they ended up deciding to do that which i mean. Yeah he cheat a little bit more. but honestly i'd rather have just a short staff that i know can get the ball. The aki get the ball. If i'm going to be honest with you. Like i i know. He's the captain but he doesn't have to be the starting shortstop i know he's been at shortstop we could put them at second base instead. Find another third baseman. Maybe i would have much rather i rather have seen. Alex rodriguez at shortstop Especially after his first few seasons in the mix but regardless jeter is at shortstop and a-rod is now at third base then. Rodriguez is fielding. Range was very good for the yankees but the thousand four season began with jeeter mired in a slump and at one point only getting one hit in a span of thirty six. Abc's through april. He hit one sixty and his improved to seventy seven by the all star break in july jeeter. Made the all star team and finished the season with a two ninety ninety-two average twenty. Three home runs the second most of his career and seventy eight. Rbi's one hundred eleven runs scored career-best forty four doubles which broke the yankees single season record for doubles by a shortstop besting. Tony kubiak thirty. Eight and nineteen sixty one or excuse me yet is. Cuba is cubic. I think the attorney kubrick's thirty eight sixty one. But he batted three sixty wine with a team leading four. Rbi as the yankees defeated the minnesota twins in the two thousand four lds jeeter struggled in the ale hitting only two hundred with one extra base hit as the yankees lost the series to boston. Red sox in seven games despite winning the first three. And we'll definitely go back and look at that Probably more toward the time of the ale the s. Because that's just a story that i got to cover But i'd have to recover. I should say. I wanna bring that that one out back out to forefront. I guess you could say but in the twelfth inning of a tied game on july first two thousand and four against their rivals. The boston red sox trot nixon hit a pop fly down the left field line and ran from his position at shortstop to make an over the shoulder catch and he watched himself over the third base side railing in two rows and into rows of seats receiving a lacerated chin and bruised face the yankees went on to win the game in the bottom of the thirteenth and this play was voted the play the year in this year in baseball awards. Competition as voted on by fans. Mlb dot com following the. Oh four.

"If that's what he did at the time he did it in a blitz. Yeah yeah yeah. Yeah the the baseball like story about him. Is that he when he went to tour of the yankees. You stood at home plate and threw it over the center. Field wall like at through one step bone over center field. The guy had alc- crazy crazy arm. And then the helicopter like that. Oh yeah asked. Me is like one of my earliest memories sports. It's the first super bowl that i can remember being a good game so like that. My whole childhood was like cowboys by million forty niners by million. Packers beat the patriots. Lot in that game was like holy shit like and that moment. This one's for john he he is just what he's like. So revered the way you guys were saying that carlson probably should have been fired by by the broncos. He's missed six quarterbacks. He's had a few head coaches but he just. They're just this year though. I think they're going to have big improvement under fangio. I agree and they finally got the right quarterback in there. So i'm gonna say. I like what i do. Actually like the broncos this year a little bit to be surprised team. I like that dave. You're up again. I'm up again. So current i don't know how this is going to play. I need another artist sierra. I wanna go julio jones. He's active is that allowed. Yes but he's not like he's pretty josh beckett and he's i mean how are you supposed to draft someone. Yeah it's a tough tough category. I'm well aware i dunno use. But he's if you want julio jones and how old is he now He he was in that. No thirty two madman something like that. They started to. He's been a leaks since twenty eleven. Fuck you got him. I would have guessed you. That's where like. I think i think like if it's a little later in the decade you take them if you want to take them easily the titans right. Yeah yeah titans so. It's gonna be a titans picture got damaged know it. I'm going to do it. i'm going to go. Julio jumps all right. I mean probably the best of the two thousand ten era wide receiver. I mean start to finish I mean megatrend woulda been but he retired early and everything only had six year career. If that Laird fits was mr like we. Just said consistency julia. Jones had those fucking big time years pushing through two thousand in the two and the twenty twenties. He's probably going to be one of the better number two options as a wide receiver. So oh he's he. This guy's looking at white sox roster. He needs another wide from the eighties. He's yeah it's tough coming together. It's not coming off spot. Yeah he's gronk certain alright. Julio jones chief you're up again all right. I have a tight end that i want but i think the way the board is. You're gonna go double up. Yeah i gotta go. Why don't i gotta go twenty twenties white out and i think there's a more obvious one just sitting there as tyreek hill like tyreek hill is like the most electric guy in the league and still is and he's on like them like he him mahomes. Or what makes that team go. And i feel like if you're gonna take a wideout from the twenty twenties. I don't know how you don't take tyreek hill. So white sox dave thank you very much i mean i prefer not to have you know what i..

"Why we're going over these folds up next is one that i'm kinda hyped about and we're only going really until twenty fourteen team from two thousand fourteen on here but the the one team that i really wanted to talk about was the twenty eleven boston red sox so we're going to skip that then. I wanna go deeper dive into that one if we get a second but the twenty twelve rangers is one team one win. And that's all the twenty twelve rangers needed to get in on their final three games of the regular season in twenty twelve to clinch the al west. They couldn't do it as the as swept the series in oakland on the strength of some some clutch pitching timely hitting extremely. Ill advised defensive gaps josh hamilton. The as had the as only had sole control of the west for one day in two thousand twelve the final day of the regular season. The rangers didn't didn't exactly hand the as the division. The rangers went nineteen ten in august. Fifteen and thirteen in september but the as when eighteen and ten in august in seventeen and eleven in september and before sweeping the series and stunning ron washington's club on october first through the third the ranger saw the west slip through their fingers and clank off of josh hamilton's glove and then retaliating them to the wildcard game where they would lose to the baltimore. Orioles up next is the twenty fourteen oakland as on june twenty first twenty fourteen. The as held a six game lead over the west. The team spent six players in the all star game a month later a day on which the record was fifty nine and thirty six in everything seemed in the cards for the as to have successful october but the and it would be their first successful one in a very long time however it didn't play out that way in fact after billy. Beane traded assessment is to the red sox on at july thirty first trade deadline exchange for john. Lester johnny gums. A completely unraveled. Remarkably the as went just twelve and seventeen in august in ten and sixteen in september needing the final day of the regular season to clinch the second wildcard spot with a record of eighty eight and seventy four falling all the way from a first place club. Too narrowly qualify for the wildcard. Spot is pretty difficult to do but green and gold. The green and gold definitely did find a way that year and then the last team that. I really wanted to talk about as the twenty eleven boston red sox because after battling for the aol east for the entire season the red sox claimed the top spot in the division in the summer of twenty eleven and held a game and a half lead heading into september boston ad one of the most talented teams in baseball that season with a rotation that included josh beckett. John lester in clay buckled in and a batting order that housed adrian gonzales. Jacoby ellsbury kevin youkilis in david ortiz. However what happened in the final months of that season will live on in beantown infamy. The red sox fell off a cliff in september. Posting eight atrocious seven twenty record of in the final month finishing the season. Seven games back in third place in the al east a season that really could have been special for those socks ended. In just utter disappointment and like this team was just. This team had so much talent. There's like no reason that that should have ever ever happen. I mean you have guys hitting you have your mike aviles hitting to ninety five. You have j. d. drew on that team. You have carl crawford on that team. Jacoby ellsbury as well like we said adrian gonzalez. You also had jose iglesias. Yes which is interesting. I actually didn't know he was on that team. But you had jed lowrie who was playing us a june player at that point but he was still a very capable outfielder at least a player. You also david ortiz. David ortiz hit three hundred dustin pedroia three. Oh six josh. Radic was on that team hitting two ninety. Three jared salts. All makki was on that team saltalamacchia that year at twelve home runs like this team. A kevin youkilis. The greek out of walks ended. That year was sixty three walks. That's nuts. He didn't have as many walks but royal though but he still was even still a decent player. You also jason varitek on that team. I'm just listing names. That are amazing right. Now you had andrew miller on that team. You had. John lester john lackey. You had clay buckled. You had josh beckett. This team was straight up nuts lake in the grand scheme of things. It's similar in my opinion. I would say it's a lesser version of what the dodgers are right now. If i'm going to be completely honest with you. I'd say it's a lesser version of what the the dodgers have now but this team was full of superstars at the time and they just fell apart during september. But that's the one. I wanted to finish on so we'll take a short break right here and then i will be right back with just one second with the best player in september for every tee. We'll.

"The marlins tweeted treats night. That was you know beyond that price. So i decided to reward them for the generosity to me in my daughter. I'm legit worried if you made your mortgage payment. That is an expensive jersey. Yeah again added this count. Who was it. Did you get the discount. Because jesus i what is even at two hundred bucks. I'd be like shh. I'm used to authentic jerseys customized being at that reigns in two hundred dollars. It was a. I was thinking back at the original price. But think of this pet is jarring. Well i'm glad you got the the marlins were kind enough to give you an employee discount. I guess i have to make their numbers because not many people are walking into that sore getting an authentic personalized jersey but holy cows. You have to wait on line at the at the letter. Making machine No those one person in front of me. And i had the chiefs clear around so once i got jersey in is pretty quick. I mean you're a man of a very specific taste when you get a jersey. It has to be personalized. It has to be bellamy eleven. I i hope it was worth it heavily. So kelly was worth it and They should have been all right. All right i went as part of the road trip i did. I went back to marlins park. And i took some photos and there's gates around the now so i couldn't access it because my idea doesn't work anymore so i went to the team store. I walked in the team store. And i was dressed down and i was not recognized by the guy who was working there and i asked for any old school marlin stuff and he brought me to one corner of the team store which had the f. till logo. I said no no. I'm talking about the rainbow m logo. She said no. We're not allowed to have that here. Oh wow i. My lower back is covered in sweat right now. Just knowing what. Roy paid for this jersey and even muster words roof. That's staying ahead added boost to that because the tax refund finally showed up about a couple of days early unseal. That's your income tax refund. No there's a the biden child benefit thing to that came in. I enjoyed that. At what point of the movie does john. Data washington tap out hori prasada for the third and final laid. Who's gonna play. You haven't played josh beckett. Don't tell john david washington. He can't do something based off the color of the skin. Oh time just saying that. Beckett has nothing to do with trash bags where he plays the title character. It's beckett all right. So i'm gonna save you an hour and a half of your life and tell you that beckett is a movie that is not worth watching. Dan's elvis and get to. John david his son and say make better choices. "The cubs then on october fifteenth. They absolutely just the cubs and they do it again. On the fifteenth as well winning both of those games by outscoring the chicago cubs fifteen to nine losey or they win that last game by a score of nine to six to win that record and now i mean the i mean the championship series is one of the most infamous series in. Mlb history on one side. You have the marlins the miracle who had just a few months before we're in the cellar of the end of the nfl and on the other side the chicago cubs who were the lovable losers. Who for a very long time. We're just so close to victory. They jumped to a three to one lead including two out of three in miami and they were sure favorites to take the series when it shifted back to chicago but in game five an absolute stellar performance by josh beckett brought the series back to chicago and back to wrigley were the home team always has the advantage and with the cubs needing to win only one game and having studs like mark pryor and kerry wood on the hill in those games most people thought the marlins hopes were over and game six. The cubs enjoyed a comfortable three to nothing. Lead with one out in the thinning when it all fell apart in the marlins went on to win. The game tying the series. This was the steve bartman incident. And now you can't really blame bartman for the cubs loss entirely in the series. But i mean in. There's still a lot of baseball left. But i mean like it's it's definitely infamous in. It's not necessarily yet but we'll end. We're gonna end with the world series right here and i know got really nerdy about this team but it's a really interesting team at nfl. I find it to be very very interesting. So yankee stadium. Obviously it's a massive stadium game one at yankee stadium. Marlins win by a score of three to two in front of fifty five thousand in new york. They would lose though the next game by score of one to six in front of those same fifty five thousand fans to tie the series at one to one and then go home to play in miami now the yankees would win by a score of one to six as well in front of the sixty five thousand fans in miami to to bring the marlins down to one to two in the series but following eight four to three twelve inning victory. the marlins then went on to win the rest of the series outscoring the yankees by eight four scoring sixty games or six runs in game five to bring this to bring the series to and actually to end the series in miami. Send it back to new york. Giving the marlins a three two lead and then on october twenty fifth of two thousand three eight to nothing score the miami marlins won the two thousand three world series. I mean it's it's pretty amazing. The the world series marked one hundred anniversary of the annual event although because it had not been a world series played in what would have been it. Second year of one thousand nine hundred four the cancellation of all postseason play as a result of the strike in one thousand nine hundred ninety four. It was the ninety ninth world series played. Josh beckett went on to win the world series. Mvp this was joe. Buck from Joe buck quote from him during the during the world series. Trying to win it all again. Slow roller right side beckett. Picks it up tax kasahda in the florida. Marlins or world champions the marlins have stunned the yankees shocked new york and this improbable team improbable. Ride the end up on top winning in six games over the yankees. And that's gonna do.

"So it's two thousand and three right. I was only like two and three years. Old during the two thousand three season for the marlins. But jeffrey loria was definitely not. He was the new owner second ear into his tenure. As the owner of the miami. Marlins if you i really encourage you all like i literally. He has no idea that i exist. But david sampson is. I'm a big fan of the way that he breaks down the business aspect of baseball because he was the team. President for the miami marlins. And he was jeffrey loria stepson. Ask for a while as well. But he was the president of the expos. And the marlins of until. I believe around twenty seventeen but that you in three florida. Marlins season was the eleventh season for major. For the major league baseball franchise in the national league. The marlins ended up playing the yankees in the world series. And it was. It's a bridge series. If i do say so myself. The marlins became just the second team in baseball history to win a world series championship. Despite being ten or more games below five hundred at some point in the season the marlins at one point in the season were twenty were nineteen and twenty nine. The marlins wouldn't get back to the postseason until last year in twenty twenty. It was really amazing but the the one of the big reasons that this team was so good is because they pulled off some major major moves in the off season. The most impressive was going and getting draw. Rigas the ten time gold glover they also traded for catcher. Charles johnson. Outfielder preston williams. Both of those guys came from the colorado rockies for four their leadoff man want bear on november sixteenth of two thousand. Two charles johnson was traded by the florida. Marlins we vic darren board. Pablo zun a- in preston wilson to the colorado rockies for one mike hampton and cash shortly thereafter hampton was traded to the atlanta braves for tim. Spoon bake bar. Margaret spooning bargar. She's me they also signed some pretty good I mean obviously they padraig is was a free agent signing. They also signed kevin. Laura from the red sox and they also Signed todd holdsworth and matt trainer as free agents that year. So they're opening day. Starters you had josh beckett on the bump. You had louise castillo at second base. Not the luis castillo that we know with the reds two different. Sto actually you also had one encarnacion and right field. Alex kansallis short todd hollandsworth and left. Derek lee was at first and mike. Mike lowell was at third base. Quantier was in center and yvonne. Rodriguez was at the dish so they ended up in the season. With a record of ninety one in seventy one ten games back of the braves for first but they did end up playing very very very well and so they got off to a very sluggish. Start jeff touring. The manager was at at the start of the season. He was struggling out of the gate and the tea and let the team to a sixteen twenty to start adding to that. Their three top pitchers were mark redman. Aj brunette and josh beckett. They all had eat they. All of those guys had endured injuries that season but beckett and redman were able to finish the rest of their two thousand three season on may eleventh tour. Borg was fired and replaced by jack. Mckinnon mckean who was a seventy two seventy two years old and began his major league managerial career in one thousand nine hundred ninety three with the royals and these guys in miami absolutely love this man so some midseason acquisitions. They traded for jeffco nine. Who was a first baseman. in exchange. For a couple of flavors they called up dontrelle willis from the mud. Cats they also called up ugueth urbina right. Handed pitcher decided. They didn't call him up. They traded for her beena from the rangers in exchange for adrian gonzalez and two other minor leaguers. They also signed aaron small an called up miguel cabrera. And that's the that's the. That's the biggest reason why i wanted to Why i wanted to bring in irc talk about this team. Specifically is because mickey was honesty this. The first team was on so padraig. He didn't play very much but he did play in eighty seven games for them. A wasn't a starter but he did have twelve home runs. Sixty two rb is he hits you. Sixty eight that season and had eighty four hits in his three hundred and fourteen at bats. He was he was definitely the guy that played the most out of every platoon flare rotational player He played in or mike. Lowell was the starting third baseman. Mike lowell led the team in home. Runs with thirty two. And rb is with one hundred. Five louis. Castio led the team in average with eight three fourteen average and the lowest average on the team out of their starters was todd hollandsworth. He was hitting two fifty four on the year healed but he only played in ninety three games. Derek lee was also on the team. Eric lee played in one hundred and fifty five games that year at thirty one home runs in ninety. Two rb is very very big for him. Pudge rodriguez hit almost three hundred just underneath it. Actually with eight to ninety seven average he also had a five. Rbi's on the year. They this i mean. This team had a ton of of the same habits on its talent like it's not it's not like they didn't have any talent but starting pitchers most guy. The guy who started the most games was a tie between brad penny and coral pavan. No both of those guys started thirty. Two games bevanda went led the team in innings pitched with two hundred and one but brad benny mark. Redman and dontrelle willis. All had fourteen wins on the year. Josh beckett had a three eight record. Carl bravado led the team in losses however with thirteen losses yet twenty five total decisions for 'em. He had four thirty-three average josh becky even though he had the least amount of starts out of their rotation that year. Aj brunette only got five or four starts before he was shut down for the rest of the year but beckett in his twenty three starts in twenty four periods is led the team in strikeouts with one hundred and fifty two which is really really impressive. Especially when you consider john willis who was apr any all star. He had one hundred. Forty two strikeouts in twenty seven appearances. Air twenty seven. Yeah twenty seven stars mark redman only had one hundred fifty one strikeouts in twenty nine starts that six more starts any. Didn't even have one less strikeout than the josh. Josh beckett was a stud back in the day that's not even a. It's not even a real question if we're gonna be really honest so during the season though..

"Show just real quick before you get us going. Did you know the cowboys. Play the steelers. Tonight there is football tonight. There is an nfl game tonight. A hall of fame game is tonight. I'm not ready for some football. I'm not either. I'm not thankfully to hall of fame game so i'm not sure we're going to see much most years on the hall of fame game. We rush up to an allegation hunt. All it means. Football's here and then you watch three plays and you're like wait a minute. That's not actually football. That's that's fake football. it's here. i'm going to training camp this weekend. Two days of getting my hopes up by monday. I'll be screaming. We're going to be bama david samson. Did you get confused when you arrived in town at the grip that the dolphins had even though the dolphins weren't any good on this town and over the time that you were here the heat sort of wrestle the city away from the dolphins grip but were you surprised by that when you got here having no experience with miami well no because remember a guy named larry lucchino who used to be the president of the red sox. One of the co-owners the red sox with the padres on that name. He was hired by major league baseball to go to florida. During the time that we were negotiating the franchise swap with the with john. Henry and bud selig and the red sox and the angels etc. Anyway larry aquino was hired to tell but seelig whether baseball could work in florida and whether there could ever be stadium financed because zinc and henry had failed at getting a stadium done and his report said that It's dolphins town. It will always be dolphins town. And he viewed it as very unlikely that a stadium deal could ever get don by anyone which is wide but seelig said good luck. Have fun in miami. I know that you and mike have covered a lot during the pandemic through your notes. Do you have one interesting story above all others that you haven't told about that team swap because things like that you just never see. When do you ever see that happen in sports. That had to be such a complicated transaction. Well it's never happened before and it's never happened since where there's been a three way franchise transaction. I think one of the interesting things that i don't think got enough. Attention was what was going on in the minds of the owners. Were negotiating this and the commissioner who was negotiating this. They were so desperate to have a deal and john henry. His level of of desire to get out of florida was shocking. He would have allowed the team to be contracted Before he would have kept the team in miami if he had not been allowed to buy another team he would've said contraction if contraction would have been allowed he would have sold. The team tried to move the team anything but he was done in south florida without a question but heap overplayed his hand quite a bit. Obviously it's worth out for me. He's now got fenway sports group. He's turned a small investment into billions of dollars on the backs of people. In a way that makes me jealous and Shocked at how good he is what he does running the baseball team but he had times during the transaction was his idea and i have to give him credit for it to swap players. Because while he didn't want to be in florida he really did want his florida players with him. Specifically josh beckett is the example. I'd like to given when mike and i spoke about it. I don't think that we talked in enough detail about how hard he tried to get josh beckett. And i didn't know josh beckett really. I didn't know much of the players. So i counted on my scouts. Montreal to tell me who which players we'd want to make sure are kept in miami. And what trade would you do if we weren't going to have josh beckett and that's when we counter with we'll take ladder guerrero senior and we went to meet bud and said we'll do that. Trade will do beckett for guerrero and but felix said no. I'm not going to allow that. John henry almost walked away from the table for that. Why wouldn't he allow it. Because he felt that if we we were doing a three way swap and he did not want to lose any assets from the expos because he knew that he was selling that team to move it and he felt the part of the attraction of getting the biggest price possible for the expos would be to have whatever superstars they had. He didn't realize that oman mnay would then just completely get rid of all the people when when he took over the expos on behalf of baseball because he didn't realize that what the learners wanted in washington was just a team that they could have been a team of lebatardshow ryan's and samson's and they would have paid the same amount. I don't know where guerrero was on the timeline of his prime back. Then but how would that trade have turned out. Would it have been 'cause josh beckett at that time was somebody who was just a prospect right. Well now he was. He was certainly in the major league level and it was someone who is going to be great. We didn't expect him to be pitching. The final game of a world series just two seasons later and then go onto another world series in boston and guerrero was the best hitter we thought we had ever seen and there was no limit to what he'd be able to do in his career and both out to be corrected. Would've been a very fair trade. Actually i've actually been a little captivated recently with all the trade deadline moves in all the high profile cubs switching teams. I've also been playing and we'll be the show. So i've been paying a little bit more attention to the sport and seems as though the yankees have turned it around a little bit and there's a very exciting wildcard chase right now with immense fire offensive firepower from the new york yankees trying to track down the as which obviously made a move with miami. I love the playoff expansion. I think there are a lot of positive lessons to be learned from last year..

"Could And maybe they have done that So that's that's possible. I i. I don't know like how much they're involving him. And all this right now but that's certainly possible. The other thing is that due to start thursday which is crazy. I would be shocked if he makes that. Start but We'll see It's been it's been a. It's been at some multi last week with the net. So who knows what happens. That i just i in listening to you and thinking about especially that nationally west. We're the third place team You know are the padres in there like seventeen games for whatever over five hundred you know. Usually the the best deal comes in at the last minute you and and you weren't that bidding war to develop so hopefully they don't. They don't do it too far in advance with respect to strasbourg in his season ending surgery. This is obviously The theme of his career is never been quite healthy enough and he's got all these years left on the seven year. Two hundred sixty five million or whatever was deal that he did a few years ago. How bad is this deal right now. For the franchise. Well it. it's a. It's the calamity from a sports standpoint. This is the worst contract work and I think with everything going on with the national. So you have all the trade stuff you have trade center testing positive for covert nineteen. Isn't that long ago. You had a game suspension. Due to gunfire outside national part but number one development over the last few weeks is what came out yesterday with strasbourg. This is a huge deal. What he got diagnosed with i. I don't think this is getting attention. This this thing that he got diagnosed with the rafic outlet syndrome. That is a doomsday. Scenario for pitchers l. That that that is what tommy. John surgery was like thirty years ago. Like we don't now at tommy. John guys undergo it come back from a just fine sometimes come back from but he did better. Some is under. Got it all time. -til let is something very different -til as a career record a career ruined her when people talk about someone like that horrible. What happened to that. Rv t. asses is what happened to matt. Harvey ruined matt harvey. He'll let has ravaged careers. And you know what strasbourg i have to say. I genuinely feel sorry for like he. His career never going to be the same now his career and i'm not trying to beat dramatic. His career in essence could be over because of this procedure that he's supposed to undergo on wednesday. We don't know what he's going to pitch again. Matt harvey comeback in pitch. He actually pitched pretty well against the nats on saturday night. Because i was there. But how many careers has it ended. Ended like okay. Harvey's career is over. But he's never the same again. Harvey underwent this josh beckett underwent visit. You know it's not a lengthy list because it's it's not something that everyone undergo is there. Anybody been a success after it. No not really not. I mean. Alex cobb under win it though. He's been okay but no one comes back from it. And it's like as good as he was before. Okay and especially with someone like strikes for recruits already. There was thirty th and has a lengthy injury history. This does not look good at all. Like i really can't overstate this. This is this was horrendous news. And it's horrendous for him personally and it's horrendous for the nationals. This contract is a complete the bockel debit years. Two hundred forty five million dollars. He's made seven. Total starts over these last two regular seasons and the striper who we came to know right in two thousand nineteen. There's a very good chance we never see that again. I don't even know if he's gonna make it through this contract. In fact i think it's almost fifty fifty whether he ends up happening retire at some point over the next few years and again i i don't say this stuff flippantly. I'm not trying to be like overly all god you know. The world is ending like t. Os is a big deal in baseball. It's not good at all. It's basically the last thing you want is a pitcher baby. Bucked the trend. i mean. obviously everyone's going to be rooting or but But the this is a very bad predicament. That the accurate out with him and his contract in thinking about the team next year if you start unloading all those people. Obviously the untouchable is soto What are you really. I mean it's amazing that two years after winning the world series worst farm system and a team that no one will recognize when it takes the field in two thousand twenty two. Yeah i mean look. They couldn't theory create these guys and resign. Okay assures her say he wants to find a place to get traded to where he can stick around and sign an extension. You know if it's in. La or san diego san francisco. Right so i. I don't know how likely doing that. It's possible but look all these leaves you at the end of the year. So if you don't want to treat them They're to go by at the end of the season because stupid they. They read the writing on the wall to the people who don't let trait baxter's or what would be better than he walked away. He added a year little real content in fact for him. And that was it with al. We had some phone issues That we could not overcome their But it's great to catch up with al. Get his thoughts on the football team and certainly get his expertise as it relates to The net situation is they will be sellers here over the next twenty four to forty eight hours As we approach the trade deadline A few more things to finish up on right. "I walk up and i'm like so and there was a throng of media around him and i had a microphone and like so. What's the deal man like. Why don't you want to do it. And he looked at me like like how dare this. Is ken griffey junior. Who's probably about my same age at the time. Had this look. He gave me this death. Stare like how dare you ask me why i am choosing not to want to be in this homerun derby. You know what he did. He went out the next day and he wanted like he gave me the look. He kind of like he was so angry. That i asked about because i even like president. Well you know. According to so-and-so he says this and this and he's like you don't even know what you're talking about he goes. You don't understand what we're going through and coming off of these series and having a fly in here. I mean just unaddressed. Me in front of everybody like okay. Sorry see you later. And then the next day baseball players are super ornery. If i if i've ever encountered issues in clubhouse or a locker room did more times at not been with a baseball player you know they. They're just. I don't know what it is but that for whatever reason seems to be the culture there like or at least certainly it was for many years. Okay go ahead. it's the sport that plays over one hundred eighty km one hundred sixty two games. One hundred eighty an postseason win all said and done and if you do that for several years you're spending half your professional life. Basically in front of the media and no other sport has maybe tennis maybe soccer. Yeah has that much. Yeah and most of the most most baseball players at this was pre you know the nba obviously had high school kids. But there weren't that many high school kids right but like most baseball players barely go to college. You know what i'm saying like so they're also just like you know so young and just like not. They don't have like if you if you're a basketball player or a football player and you go to these basketball schools or these football factories schools. You have media training. You know what. I'm saying like if you go to duke. You don't want to deal with the media. I'll give you an example. Because i i do want to eventually talk about this game but i was watching the post game last night on. Nba tv and kenny. Smith asked mikhail bridges. Like what is it like to having done. Nba finals media. Day was like different or cool. He's like man. I went to villanova and play the two final fours i saw there was a media like all day like i talked to media more than i did practice. You know what i'm saying so like but in baseball there isn't there isn't that you know what i mean like basketball players and football players have a lot more media training because they spend time in these big colleges whereas most baseball players. Don't even go to a baseball like a college. If you're a college baseball player you don't have the media responsibilities that a basketball or football player has either but my only issue he played for the dodgers right. Aj burnett greg played for the dodgers a long time ago right. I don't remember burnett was josh josh. Josh beckett was burnett did not play for the dodgers. I mean it would have been very very short if he did the mid-2000s mean look it up. I don't remember him being dodger. All right keep going. there must be nonetheless. You're right it wasn't it was josh beckett so aj burnett one time. I don't know what the hell i even asked him. I don't even remember it anymore. But i was a baby. Okay like a baby in this business. Like twenty two twenty three wet behind years but baby. Yeah yeah and i. I asked him something and he it was me and another guy kind of asking the same thing and he just berated us in front of the entire room and they're on their forget. This there was a a national moby guy who's based in new york. I don't want to say who. What or whatever. But he came he. He heard what was happening. Walked right up to him and said bro. Why do you have to be such a bleep to these two kids. They're just doing their job man and then he kind of backed off because this guy was a prominent baseball writer at the time and he was like all right man. I'm sorry and then he answered the question. But i but baseball players get real ornery for sure inter or having to do like post game interviews in locker rooms. This is going to come off sounding. Maybe like can you. Can you finish this on the zags. We have a four and a half minute break. Go ahead let's do that. You get your story. And then greg will do overrated underrated. We'll do that next. Thank you chris. And i don't know tonight. I wanted to take away i real fast or just go right into the birthday. I mean. just go do this first. And then we'd give away story all right. It's not that big a deal. You want to tell your story anyway. So let's do birthdays. I and l z. You did not end up using your get out of jail free card not okay so then. Today's birthday is lisa leslie or michelle kwan. Boy i'm going to say that. Lisa leslie is the underrated one because when i look at staples and i don't see no statue of her. That means y'all impr- she and her right yelling. Give it her her flowers. This is an la legend who has brought chips and olympic gold and all kinds of se. Glory where's statuette. Where is the statue. So she is the underrated. One not trying to hate on figure skating. You know but brothers ain't really looking at figure skating. I'm just saying we really don't mess with the winter olympics in general but we damn sharing sitting around waiting to see when michelle kwan is gonna take the ice. You don't think the brothers sitting around going yo man. You excited tonight for for the big figure skating finale. I'm sure there are some brothers who love them. Some figure skating. I just wasn't hanging around with them. When michelle kwan was on the ice feel that she. Greg i really don't wanna use one of these. Get out of jail free cards. You know. eventually you're gonna. I guess you're going to have to find the right topic where i'm just unwilling but for the sake of of this particular exercise i will also say michelle. Kwan would have to go in this equation as the overrated versus lisa. Leslie which i would have to say would be underrated. And i'm not into figure skating or wnba basketball. But in this particular instance. That's how i'll go. I agree with those lisa. Leslie is no disrespect to again michelle kwan. As well but it's like what are you. Lisa lens lesley's iconic in her sport. Michelle kwan is one of many great figure skaters. I don't know if i would classify her as iconic necessarily..

"Player they wouldn't be there. Yeah no that's the great part about this game. You can be rainy. Johnson six ten and you can be jose altuve ian an mvp and the big leagues a monkey beckmann heavy peanut. Big like you know now. Bregman and pedroia. Mvp they this game caters to know kuna junior. Who's a star disguise. Five ten and so. It's the one thing with this game that you could. You could play a high level and it doesn't matter how big your i you know. Analytics are great. We learn every we have more information and all sports golf whatever it is but we do forget to watch the game. This game special. There's so much going on. There could have been a big night last night. There could have been a bad sleep the day before. You can't judge that kind of stuff. So the human factor of your eye tests like you're saying when you're talking about last year's world series as an example of blake's now gets taken out of the game with sixty six pitches facing the dodgers and he struck out the three guys getting ready to see six times. They've all strung out twice but the analytics already set at one o'clock that day you're not facing the dodgers lineup. Third time around. Well that's where. I have an issue. And you mentioned 'cause my eyeballs are saying nobody's hitting blake sale at night. He might have thrown a nine inning. Complete game twenty strikeouts. we'll never know because analysts got in the way of that decision and that's when we have issues in my my opinion the eye test is the greatest thing watched the game. And then you can use the information when needed. I completely agree with you. And this is one story that i found absolutely fascinating as i was prepping for this interview. You were actually sold to the japanese league tunisia dragons before boston broken unwritten rule and placed a waiver claim on you. And that's how you ended up in boston. Tell me what on earth happened there kevin. It's amazing because feel epstein was a twenty eight year old. Gm for the first time. Okay in two thousand three and this has never happened in the history of baseball. Was that when you basically get non tender by the marlins you have to go through waivers. Which all twenty nine other teams get a chance to get you usually. If you're going overseas. I agree to a two year deal with the issue dragons and usually as you're going overseas no one's ever claimed anybody because you're not gonna hurt anybody and let's get real clear. I wasn't very bonder. Sammy sosa definitely a little player with the florida. Marlins so hey. Kevin have a good time in japan. Feel claimed me off waivers so it was the first time it's ever happened. Well now no one knows what to do. I had agreed a two year. Deal that at that time you know with a lot of money. Because i've been buying my whole life so it's like a two year contract with mike. Not this is awesome now feel and the red sox claimed it was a six week battle because now japan change drags. Didn't well let me out of this verbal agreement and then the red sox they were stay with me so john henry who's the owner of the red sox owner with the marlins beforehand so there was a little bit of relationship but larry lucchino was looking at like. Let this guy go. If feeling these guys they fought with me and stay with me. And i ended up going to the deal. Vialli's it was valentine's day two thousand three february fourteenth. I had i had to do Fort myers florida and red sox and it was you know. Thank goodness best decision ever made. Or i'm on still being japan to playing baseball at forty nine and you'd be hitting thirty home runs at age forty nine over there too. You know the very next year after this whole ordeal you win a world series. The red sox break the curse of the bambino with an unforgettable two thousand and four series. You've ever just find yourself just sitting at homer whatever leaning back out and you think about that season yeah i. It's remarkable because when you say that think about nine hundred ninety seven. The marlins won the world series. That year i was player of the year as a minor leager. Okay so for non-draft guy. That was a big deal. Okay usually they call you up in september. They didn't jim leyland. These guys were going for this wild card. And i totally get it. They win the world series. We were the guys that come up. Ninety eight with the marlins right now. I leave after the two season with the marlins go to boston. And three marlins win the world series in two thousand three when josh beckett through an amazing game against the yankees in game six and shut him out. I believe To win the series but that was the bartman situation in chicago and then an only three. That was aaron. Boone hits a home. Run the rains and beaches in game. Seven yankee red sox so i was thinking the curse marlins won the world series ninety seven and two thousand three. I go to the boston. Red sox in two thousand three and that whole thing happened and cubs red. Sox are supposed to be. It ended up being yankees in in marlins and then thank goodness gracious. Oh for talk. Nation came back down three games. That is kevin millar. First baseman played twelve seasons in the bigs won a world series as of the oh four red sox team as you just heard him talk about. And he'll be playing the american century championship. In lake tahoe. July seventh to the eleventh alongside other athletes such as joe thighs meant aaron rodgers. Patrick mahomes charles. Barkley and john smoltz. Kevin was a pleasure having you on getting to pick your brain and reminiscent a little bit with you. Thanks so much for taking some time. Have some fun in town and we look forward to checking it out. Appreciate pray for birdie. Let's go now. We we definitely will. Maybe get paired up with charles and you'll you'll look like you would be right now japan. So what will hope for birdies. Long straight jazz for your calf take care. You bet. Fake i appreciated. That is kevin millar. I'm dominic purcell wrapping.

"This so many places right. We kinda got a little bit funny on the The roll-call there and that's that's really really good stuff Here's what i would if. I was sitting around a bar. Top or having a discussion with folks. Here's here's what i would Kind of reflect back on folks You know. I don't know if we said while we were on the arab we said it before. There's there's two big fears that we have mostly as men as entrepreneurs is the in just as people is the fear of inadequacy and the fear of judgment and Josh from it's when i go back into the aviation world in a pilot training. It's like that that those things were present always am. I mean we had. I think a dozen check rides at any given point. You could fail a check ride. You got to do it again but if you fail it again you gone right so that you you wanna talk about that. Fear of and fear of judgement is like i. i didn't know that that was an encouraging her. It was a motivator but it also kept me wildly insecure about whether or not. I could do it. And if you can begin to give that a name and realized the way that you're perceiving something and and just just ask yourself what am i afraid of and be very critical of yourself. You're gonna find that your the only thing standing in the way of you in great success. Because frankly i'm not judging you if you tell me that you think that you want to be a skydive instructor and you go. I'm actually afraid of airplanes. It's like well that's not my problem that's a you problem right. So is the as we kind of unpack those things. That's the conversation. Those are really hard to kind of get into josh beckett that destitute things that if i could impart that on my five year old son or seven year old daughter i want them to understand that they can open up their aperture and if they just reframe the.

Miami Marlins: Derek Jeter, Kim Ng make baseball history
"I want to start with What I mentioned in the update, and that is the hiring of Qiming as the new GM off the Miami Marlins. And just off the top before we get to the historical nature of this and what it means for North American professional sports, moving forward. Just it is interesting to me. You know? Inevitably, the Rockies and the Marlins will be linked. Both coming into the league together. Iraqis and Marlins or not rivals by any stretch of the imagination. It's certainly if you are Iraqis Fan and the Marlins do something good. And the Rockies. Don't You inevitably draw that line between each other. And for the longest time, even though the Miami the now Miami Marlins used to be Florida Marlins have been more successful or tasted Oldham. Its success more than the Iraqis have. For the most part, the Marlins have been one of the worst run organizations. In all of baseball. We all remember Jeffrey Loria. Would buy a championship. Did buy a championship. 97 When Edgar Renteria got that hit off of Jose Mesa and the world Syriza's Sold everybody off. Because the wage bill would have been too high. But through that, by selling off all those players, he ended up getting a lot of really talented young players. Josh Beckett, Juan Pierre Carl Pavano. And they We're able to go win a championship, and then they were all sold off. Couple of ownership changes later, a monstrosity of a stadium poor attendance. Fire sales seemingly every other year incomes Derek Jeter and we thought that it was going to be more of the same. How in the world Is Derek Jeter. Going to Be the And he's not He runs the Marlins that he has a money man behind him. That helped him get the deal done as much money is Derek Jeter has made throughout his career. He can't outright by a major league baseball team himself, so he has kind of a What Silent partner that kind of front him the money, But he's the face. He's the guy that is making all the decisions. And it's something that We really haven't seen too much. And North American pro sports. We've seen plenty become G m's even presidents. And I guess that might be Derek Jeter's technical title, but two Be The owner. Of a team like the true owner, not nine. Justin Timberlake buying Air Peyton Manning's wife, buying shares of the Memphis Grizzlies. Like it's his team. And then they promptly had a fire sale. After he took over. We thought, okay, same old Marlins. Quietly. They have become one of the more Progressive Four thinking which I guess are It basically means the same thing. Progressive four thinking. Competent. Organizations in baseball.
