"Up fewer so we can even tell these do yes. Something tells me though that it's going to know is going to close the gap a little bit on that point spread. I sure hope. So with my prediction i am planning on that. Okay well stick around till the end of the episode to learn about carter's prediction all right. So let's talk about some of the keys to why we think clemson is going to win this game and some of the things. I'm not so much again worried that they're not gonna win this game so probably keys is the wrong phrase us instead. Some of the things that we're going to be looking for in this game that we want to see and the first one for me is that finally it seems like almost the entire defense as healthy at this point lane is zanger's will be out but other than other than our starting safety and zander's than i think most of the defense. It appears is going to be with us in healthy on saturday. Which obviously is a great sign especially after last week which we talked about how that defense came out and dominated the game and it felt like it was the first time in a very long time even though they were still missing players that they felt hole. And that was mostly on the defensive line. And it's really good that we're getting a back this game because we're going up against The best one of this running backs in the country of athletic quarterback as well and oftens of line in virginia tech that actually grades out as the fourth best according to pro football focus so all signs point to the fact that virginia tech is gonna run run. Run your boat gently down the stream and so it's good that we have this defensive line back but i've been talking about for the past few weeks it's really time now for clemson to build that chemistry and listen. It's the last regular season of the of the season. I i literally cannot believe it. The season's gone by so slow but so fast and we're already here like this. Is your team at this point. These guys heading into the acc championship heading into the college football playoff. Who are either gonna win you the the championship or they're not like they're this. Is your team at this point. We don't wanna worry about. I'm sorry to frank lanson josephine god. All these guys who are injured we. It's it's time that the guys that we have step up that they build some chemistry that they show up and that a dominate the games like they need to and so. I think this is going to be a good and important test. Especially in the ron and as we've seen throughout this season clemson has always been good against athletic. Quarterbacks course we played steve young earlier this season. so you can't blame them for that I forgot about that. Brennan armstrong of virginia. But as dab elected com steve young and then shoot. Who did they compare. Lamar jackson to era the compared to lamar jackson. I forget who heard the miami cornerback. Yes yeah. I think you're right to lamar jackson. So they algebra his name dear king yes okay yes so anyways against those guys running plays then in book. Who of course is faster than you want him to be as they described him and he had some success as well scrambling so the quarterback for virginia tech. Hinton hooker isn't really a passing threat honestly. Virginia tech actually has a lot of talent on the offensive side of the ball. But you know everything. That i was reading was complaining about the offense coordinator and how he doesn't know he's totally unqualified to run the offense. He doesn't know how to use their talent things like that. So it doesn't appear that they're passing game is in any you know such condition to be afraid of and so this is really just going to be. Can the clemson defensive line. Stand up to this. Really good offense ally in from virginia tech. Yeah i think. I'm thinking. I'm hoping actually that coming off gets pittsburgh and with everyone healthy. It's it was encouraging to see that. I'm thinking that they're gonna have momentum going into this game it'll be good for them to It was a little bit easier against pitt to get some of that momentum back in that chemistry like you said going into this game against virginia tech but honestly throughout that game it was just really encouraging to watch that as i'm really excited about this game against virginia tech. I think they're gonna come out even stronger now after a full week of practice. If as far as i know they had a practice without kobe restrictions. Yes yes but the chemistry. I think even just one week i think it will be a big deal for them and going into this game. I think it'll help out a lot. And i'm really looking forward to it. Yeah we'll see I mean this is definitely the game where you want to start building momentum heading into the post season while we have to. I mean this is like you said next up is notre dame so i guess it's it's important to point out that clemson wins us game there in the acc championship and actually having clinched yet. If they lose the miami. And if miami wins than miami will be in the of clinton's losers who cares about the rest season we will forever postponed this podcast. How will that yes. I will bet our podcast that they win this game. The next key that we have The second key we're looking for in this game we didn't even talk really before the podcast. But we both at the same thing. Basically we wanna see. Trevor lawrence come out here and just obliterate this virginia tech defense. We want him to put up a heisman type game. We want six hundred yards passing ten touchdowns. Okay maybe not that much. But why stop there. Six hundred yards. No joke like we want to see. Trevor lawrence come out and just obliterate this new take defense put up the stats show. What he's got no more taking it easy. We just want all out. This is where we show everything especially with trevor lawrence. We want to see as may touchdowns as possible running up that score. Who cares about virginia tech. We're up by sixty with a minute left. We're not kneeling the ball. You better hope. Trevor lawrence is going to be in that game one touchdowns still. That's what we want to see. I could not agree more and this week has been kind of funny because dabo sweeney came out and said that any you know logical people would realize trevor lawrence is the best player on college football and he says irving of winning the heisman and of course clemson twitter and social media has also brain the hashtag. Trevor for heisman i mean. How catchy is that. Come on how could he not win the heisman with that. Catchy little hashtag. But there's you know they're trying to drum up some momentum because they realize that it's sort of sort of. It seems that the heisman is out of reach for trevor lawrence. At this point. Which i talked to will or as i talked about before at the top of this podcast. And he seems to think that it's also out of reach and less. Trevor lawrence throws six touchdowns against notre dame in the sec champion which is possible. It's it's totally possible. I mean who knows it can happen. So here's what i would say though. Is that these narratives change on a dime. I mean how many weeks did it take. Trevor lawrence.

"Dangerous. But some of the other guys I mean Miami's played a lot of great quarterbacks Michael Vick certainly was one of them that they had a little rivalry with when Miami and Virginia Tech playing each other Vick was, of course, the number one overall pick. You know the Matt Ryan wanted NFL MVP award if face Tim. This is just recent guys, Russell, Wilson Those are all guys that they that they took on and then you go way back their big east facing Notre Dame on an annual basis, Joe? Montana. boomer esiason when he was at Maryland. A you know look at Jameis Winston Florida State and all the Great Florida State quarterbacks Charlie. Ward I mean they faced a lot of the probably a lot of the same ones that Clemson phase being in the ACC. So you know I think trevor certainly what he's accomplished thus far. Some of the numbers he's put up at this level of the fact that he's twenty, seven one and one a national championship. You could you could certainly make the case that already his resume is up there with with the best of the best of them in actually taught to Joseph Jackie, who's the radio Voice for the University of Miami he calls the Games he's been doing it for the last eighteen years and been been involved in it for the last thirty. In. He says Trevor is up there with the best that they've ever faced. He feels that they're facing a passionate Mahomes, Dan Merino type of quarterback you know, and so I think for sure when it's all said and done when Trevor's careers over in the NFL WE'RE GONNA? He's GonNa have a resume. That's going to certainly make the case he's possibly the best Miami's over face certainly got hall of fame type hair. So no matter how he plays. No doubts are let me get you out of here a little more question. No matter the outcome of this game. I. Think there's a good possibility that these two teams meet up again in the ACC championship. Obviously that's a long ways away. How likely do you think that is Notre Dame's in the mix I understand that but I think there's a good chance me again what do you think about that? Well, I, mean I. Think if Miami's going to get back there if they lose this game, then then it's it's a matter of them running the table. That's the only way you're going to be able to do it, and that's going to require Clemson also beating Notre Dame probably worse than they beat Miami if the if that's the way things play out and it's such a strange year, right? With covid nineteen and everything else that's going on you could always have a player missing game. I think in a perfect world if Miami's remains healthy, they're to be favored in the majority of the Games that they have left I. Think the only game that they probably won't be is is Virginia Tech and that's because the hokies right now are playing well. They'd have to play that game in Blacksburg and that's always been a challenging game for Miami. So if Miami runs the table, certainly I think that they'd have a great shot of doing it but that's easier said than done in today's covid nineteen climate. Absolutely. I guess we should focus on this weekend. We'll worry about the rest of the season later, but I really taking the time to come on with us. I want to encourage our listeners to check you out at the athletic. You've got some great stuff about Miami, the Miami Heat as well. I don't know how much longer the finals are going to be going on, but hopefully a few more games but. Check that out for sure and I also want to tell her about Europe podcast the wide right podcast. You just interviewed Chris Falicov, the bear. From Espn College Game Day that was great interview. He told people a lot about how he got involved. In the industry and he's just a fun guy overall. So I want to tell everybody go listen to that for sure. Yeah. Definitely Chris is One of the best in the business we you know to me, I, Kinda, look at him as a brother from another mother you know I mean I. We're too big too big dudes who love sports and stats analytics and I. Thought it was really interesting to hear how it was that he got into the business I got into it through the writing side and he talked about you know being a statistician and a guy who kinda get got his start you know working in radio and then eventually getting his way over to ESPN and he is a Miami. Grad is a guy who. Attended. The University of Miami. So he he's got a soft spot, obviously the canes and his heart every every single time he makes a pick. But in the end, it's all businessmen whenever he decides he looks at the numbers. I wouldn't be surprised if he picked Thompson in this game as good as Miami played to this point. Yeah I guess we'll find out on Saturday and what's your prediction game I know you've said other places but I wanna I wanna our listeners to hear from you. Yeah. I'm picking the tires thirty eight to thirty one. I. Think this is going to be a back and forth game. Where Miami going to be in the hunt and have an opportunity but the fact that Trevor Lawrence doesn't turn the ball over and Clemson protects its so well I don't have the number right in front of me. I did the research a move probably a month ago now but going into the season but I I know Miami's record when they create more than one turnovers really really good ever since manny has been there in the turnover chain has been out there and I I just think If clemson can protect the football. They're the better team and and they should win this game but So I said Thirty, eight, thirty, one Clemson but I think Miami's got a chance. I think they really do I think. This is going to be an exciting game. The fact that the valley will not be rocking and it won't have a tactile certainly helps Miami. And so I think is going to be a good game and you're gonNA see too good football teams play a good game on Saturday night. Yeah. That's what we're hoping for just some good Games. I feel like the ACC, a ton of good Games recently. So we're we're hoping for that for sure on. Saturday. And I really appreciate you taking the time and we'll see L. Saturday goes but thanks for thanks for your time and thanks for joining us. Anytime you take care. I just want to say another huge. Thank you to manny for coming onto the show today, and the one thing that I forgot to say while he was here was that you should go follow him on twitter and you can find him there at manny underscore very aright. Let's hop right into. We have three specific points that we WANNA make want to make about this game. These are the things that I'm going to be looking for. These are the things that Carter is going to be looking for. and. Of course, you should be looking for these things as well. The first thing that we are keeping our eye on is, of course, the CLEMSON offensive line against Miami's scary pass rush Miami has ten sacks through the first three games which comes to an average of three point, three sacks per game. I'm. Not, GonNa lie to you say that I'm super confident. At this point and Clemson's offense have lied they, they've been solid. Have we seen anything though like? To seen anything of concern somewhat with that. But also like with opponents we've played like, can we take anything from that? No No, and that's what I'm trying to say is that okay so we you know we beat Virginia Virginia's genius obviously the Best Po opponent we played so far I wouldn't say that there at all on Miami's talent level and so yeah concerns me Miami has a couple of dudes fry in manny just talked about that. And they're gonNA be good. So clemson is gone up three six sacks so far this season in three games. and. It's going to be important to protect Trevor Lawrence against this pass rush always. Always. Go down the season's over. Let's. which is the exact reason we don't want him to run although maybe I'll reverse course on a little bit. We'll get to that in a second, but keep an eye on that for sure. The Miami Defensive? Line. In those ends are able to get pressure on Trevor Lawrence and making them uncomfortable. This game is going to be Wide Open Trevor Lawrence is good under pressure manny talked about that as well. But no quarterback is better under pressure than if they have a clean pocket by any means our boy. And I think it's important to we've seen so far that I don't think. Trevor. Lawrence in his wide receivers have impressed so far Trevor Lawrence has but I'm not sure. I'm like Josephine God I'm Frank Lads have been. So not so far now no. So we want to make sure that they apply a time to run through their routes. Give Trevor Lawrence plenty of time to get through his reads and make that happen. There's definitely talent on that Miami defense aside. All right. The second thing would be looking for in this game is we're GONNA, be looking at Clemson's secondary REC- stop Derek King through the air as well as through the ground. He is very good at both that is for sure now there are some positives take away from. Tiger Secondary Against Virginia we obviously had that amazing interception by.

"Nick save. In this phenomenon is one of the all time greats in some people's is the all time great, we get that. And there's nothing to dismiss or poo about the Alabama crimson tide. But when you look at clemson's program, I think the biggest thing is that a guy like Justin Ross left Alabama to comment play for your program. What do you think that says not just about you? But what's going on at Clemson? Because you've got a lot of kids out there that are looking at Clemson differently. Yeah. No doubt. I mean, we think we guys this this year this classroom. I think fourteen different states. So I mean, we've we've gone to Pennsylvania and got the top player in the state. We got the top receiver out of California this year Josephine God of the top receiver out of Florida. Frank lanston. I mean, we'd gone all over and but getting Justin Ross last year was was huge for us. I mean Trevor Lawrence last year out of Georgia number one player in the country. So, you know, we we we. Recruit guys that we think, you know, fit our culture, and and we're transparent because I won't go to know what they're getting into when they come in here. What the expect -tations on? It's just really cool to see young people that are just great great football players and how they recruit and all that. But yet they still they they walk family. They won't disciplined they won't structure, they want accountability. And and you know, that's not that doesn't mean that that's not a lot of other schools have the same things. But it's just really cool that our brand has grown to that point. And guys know what we're all about. And you know, for young man like him to to want to come and be a part of it. But he knows that we're explosive on offense. He knew that he would be able to come in here. And I have a chance to to grow and mature with Trevor lords along the way, and he came in here and got behind T Higgins, you know, he had he's the second freshman I've had to have a thousand yards the Sammy Watkins, and and he was a backup. You know? He backed up t- Higgins most of the year and. And then as the year went on we kinda had different packages where we got them both on the field at the same time. But he's an amazing talent. Those catches that you saw the night. You know, that's like just, you know, another day at practice for what we see around here. And he's a great kid with a tremendous work ethic. So much fun to coach. And man is they're going to be fun to to work with that guy for a couple more years does a couple more questions for the great one dabbles. We need a coach at a rainy defending national champion. Clemson Tigers right here with Steven. He has PIN radio ESPN news. I want to transition because I want to get your perspective not about these players, but about player accountability. And some of the things that young guys out there need to recognize if you're going to come and play collegiate sports you had a Dexter Lawrence. You had zag laying Brandon Galloway they got suspended because the national championship game because of some failed drug tests with some muscle growth supplements, or whatever the case may be but most of them have forget about those guys for a second. You are. A coach going into kids home talking to their parents, their family members, etc. Etc. Because of how things have changed from a societal perspective. Even from the business of the NC, double A, how individuals players programs, etc. Held accountable. What show message to kids that want to come and play collegiate sports that they really really need to know, and the grass if they're going to succeed at this level and keep their head above water is what are some of the minefields. You think they need to watch out for coach? First of all, there's no entitlement. You know, we we we live in this world now, especially with a lot of young people. They get armed with this entitlement. Whether comes from, you know, outside people in their life, or whatever or the recruiting process. You know, listen, there's no elevator to success. You know, you gotta take the steps period..

"And and I never in my wildest dreams believed that Clemson would be sitting in this position right now where it's not about just a national championship. What I took from Justin ROY. Awesome. When he was spoken to and what he spoke about this prior to the national championship game. They asked him why he want to come to Clinton, and he talked about the family kind of atmosphere. The fun love coach and a programmed any plays for and he talks about having a good time. Nick Sabin is phenomenal. He is one of the all time greats and some people's is the all time great.
