You Won't How Will the Left Use the Military Leak?

"I just don't think we're being told the whole story and obviously this is a big deal. I don't want to minimize that. This guy allegedly leaked this documentation the documents Jack to share did, but I just feel as though something is missing and I'll be Frank with those of you that are in the listening audience. I do not trust the federal government under Joseph Biden. Now, I don't want to conflate what Jack to share did with what I'm saying here. I do not trust this federal government under Joe Biden. So I look at things like this and I'm like, okay, there's got to be more to the story with Joe Biden, Merrick Garland so on at, et cetera, and then I start looking ahead, Jennifer, I've never done this before, and I'm like, okay, even if this guy is guilty, how are they going to use this story against us? How is the left going to use this? I've never been that way until Biden came in. But I want you to, I just want to go through this story if you will. You start out with this, obviously that was the big story. The arrest of the 21 year old, but the media seemed to get ahead of the it seemed to get ahead of the Department of Defense, which is, which is really, really odd, Jennifer. So when you break that down a little bit. Yeah, it's very odd. So there was two basic components to the piece that I wrote in. It took me about 9 hours yesterday to write it because things kept changing as I started to write. I was just writing about The Pentagon briefing and basically how we didn't learn anything throughout they basically said, oh, well, we made rules and he broke them. So it's not our bad. Like, we don't have to change anything. No, that's not really how this works. So originally, back a week ago, Reuters reported based on anonymous sources, of course, that this leak came from Russia or Russian sympathizers. So then you hear nothing for a few days, and then all of a sudden, Washington Post has this story Wednesday night that in an interview with someone else from that Discord forum saying that the guy who posted them was in his 20s was military guy, and of course they made him out like some wet dream of a maga supporter so that they could probably target that audience in the future. And so that the next morning they wake up and I sent to some of my colleagues, I said, I bet the guys attached to fort Bragg somehow just because I know the role that fort Bragg plays in our war, especially with all the special operations and I used to live near fort Bragg. So I knew a lot of the officers there. So kind of had that knowledge. So get up the next morning and sure enough, Wall Street journals reporting that the guy was attached to fort Bragg.

The Biden Classified Documents Scandal Is Getting Interesting...

"There's a lot of opinions out there right now about this Biden document story and we have learned that Joe Biden has been keeping private classified documents in his garage next to his Corvette. We have learned that apparently the official regime narrative is that people just stumbled upon these documents and then turned them over to the national archives that they said, oh wait, sorry, we have all these classified documents here, not just at the university of the Pennsylvania, but also at Joe Biden's private residence. A residence that Hunter Biden also declared as his residence. On an official government application, I believe to get a firearm. We're supposed to believe this entire story and I know many of you do not. Many of you look at this and you say, there is more to the story. And now there's several theories out there. Let me tell you what those are. One of the theories is that these documents were planted by the deep state by the shadow government by the administrative state by the fourth branch of government that these documents were planted as a way to take down Joe Biden. Hank Johnson, a Democrat who is most famously known for being very concerned that Guam was going to capsize because of too many troops on one side of the island. Actual thing in a real congressional committee, not a joke, not hyperbole, not a metaphor. Hank Johnson came out and said that these documents very well might have been planted, play cut 95. My response to it all is that alleged classified documents showing up allegedly in a possession of Joseph Biden, but I'm suspicious of the timing of it. I'm also aware of the fact that things can be planted on people.

The Dow up 233 points down the NASDAQ 248 points higher. Maura Town whole dot com Now for the O'Reilly Update Message of the day revealing Joe Biden, the 46 president. Who is he? Let's start at the beginning. Joseph R. Biden Jr was born on November 20th 1942. He was raised in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Then his family moved to Delaware. He attended the University of Delaware, then Syracuse University College of Law. On August 27th 1966 Mr. Biden married Neilia Hunter. Also a student at Syracuse University. They had three Children. Joseph Beau Biden, the third Robert Hunter Biden and they only Christina Amy Biden. Then tragedy struck. In December. 18 1972 Neilia and baby Naomi. We're out Christmas shopping. They were involved in an auto crash that killed them. One week before Christmas. Five years later. Joe Biden married his second wife, Jill Jacobs, That was in 1977. President Biden has now to surviving Children. Hunter Biden Age 50 Ashley Biden Age 39. That daughter is from his marriage to Jill. Now in his professional life. Joe Biden has been pretty much a politician, but he did hold. Ah, job is a public defender in 1969. Shortly after he was elected to the new Castle County, Delaware counsel. Then in 1972 just three years later. He was elected to the Senate from Delaware. Then, as everyone knows, in 2008, he was elected vice president of the United States. Joe Biden himself has undergone multiple brain surgeries. He had an aneurysm in 1988. And in 2015, his eldest son ball died. From brain cancer. So obviously President Biden has had major major tragedy in his life. Having issues at first in the Senate, Joe Biden was fairly conservative. Even as a Democrat, he supported the Hyde Amendment. Which prohibited the federal government from demanding taxpayer money to fund abortions based upon religious objections. But today Mr Biden supports Using tax dollars. From Catholics like he is To fund abortions. Stunning turnaround. Also, Mr Biden does not want any limits on abortion at all. 1984 Joe Biden sponsored a very tough comprehensive crime control Act along with Senator Strum Thurman. A very right wing guy. That act. "But in fact, 27 of the 30 trends that we're seeing on Twitter right now are dedicated to the inauguration. And there are some personality is getting a lot of attention right now. I would draw your attention to a couple trends right now. Eugene Goodman. You'll recall that he's the Capitol police officer who kept lawmakers safe during the mob attack on January 6th. He's the one who escorted vice president Kamila Harris. He came out to a cheering crowd and the folks on Twitter absolutely loving it. His name is trending and Officer Goodman is trending as well. And, of course, Twitter loves entertainment. So you see, Lady Gaga you C J Lo, Jennifer Lopez. Of course. You see Garth Brooks Trending A rod is trending as well. And this is a fun one. David. Robin Net is trending, of course, the president's middle name, which leads me to believe that many people who are watching the ceremony today are perhaps finding out that they are in Joseph R. Biden Jr stands for Robinette. Oh, I love that. I love that these things were large about domestic issues at the same time. We're all conscious of the whole world, literally watching what goes on particularly like what happened in January. 6. Are you getting any sense of how maybe people around the world are reacting? Is there a difference overseas? There is and you know I want to bring up Ursula von Dir Lions tweet. She's of course, the president of the commission. She's weighed in, and this one is really striking. And for those of us who are listening on the radio right now, she tweeted a gift that says a fresh start, and it's an image of the U flag sort of embracing the American flag, she says. Congratulations Joe Biden on being sworn in as president of the United States, and Kamila Harris, the first woman vice president of the U. S. Thank you for your inspiring inaugural address and for the offer to cooperate, Europe is ready for a fresh start. And I should know, too, that the prime minister of Israel weighing in on his account, Benjamin Netanyahu, in fact, thanking President Trump earlier today, for all the great things in quotes that he's done great things that you've done for Israel, especially your historic recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital and bringing four peace agreements between Israel and the Arab world. He did also tweeted congratulatory note and video to President Biden and President Vice President Harris and then Barack Obama, weighing in as well with a picture of his old friend Joe Biden, their arms around one another, he says. Congratulations to my friend, President Joe Biden. And this is your time. That's nice. That's particularly thank you so much, Tim. Great to have you with us. That's Bloomberg. Quick takes anchor Tim Stenkovic needs to stay on the subject of overseas. Welcome now. Richard Haass. He's president of the Council on Foreign Relations. Richard Thank you so much for being with us. You saw most of it was about domestic issues. But President Biden now President Biden went on his way to say America's come back stronger and we will rebuild our alliances. You've been outspoken on that subject under the Trump administration. How difficult will that be? Little take some time. But today was a good start, David because this projected an image of a very familiar, reassuring America bipartisan Um, resolute. I think this will this. This is all good, but it will take time. I think At the back of every allies. Head is the concern over whether this divided country can be there for them, and also what times in four years to put it bluntly. How are they to understand where America is in the ark of its history, where the last four years the aberration and this is now the restoration of the normal or will it turn out that the last four years were a harbinger? We'll have four years of Joe Biden. But then we got then we're going to return to some version of Trumpism with or without the man. And that's the question mark that Mr Trump planted around the world rich I want if there's one place in which we shouldn't really expect too much of a deviation because we did here in the confirmation testimony from Tony Lincoln, and he seemed to indicate maybe they would be just as tough on China as President. Trump had been in by the way. Janet Yellen, the nominee for Treasury, also had some harsh things to say about China. I think they'll be more consistency than that difference there. David, You're exactly right. I think it reflects a shift in American thinking about China. It's a bipartisanship. Much more critical, much more skeptical. But this is a very different China. This issues in things China, it's more repressive at home. Economically. It's not evolved in ways that people expected or hoped for that stronger militarily. It's much more sort of diplomatically. So I think you're going to get you're going to get a much more pushback from the United States. Richard. I just want to follow up on what David just asked you because I was struck by those confirmation hearings as well. And do you see you said you don't see much of a stark difference, but we did see some exchanges yesterday, and I wonder if your feet getting the sense that we're going to see any trouble with any of these Cabinet nominees. In the national security realm. I'm thinking in particular some of the pushback from Josh Holly on the Department of Homeland Security. That won't be fast track. Do you first see any other challenges there with these nominees in that arena? I think the one potential awkward one could be general Austin not because soon man simply because of the need for a waiver, giving his military recent military service and there's acute sensitivity right now to civilian control. These air like these air veteran capable hands, whether it's Toni Blake Jenner or Janet Yellen or Avril Haines to Deanna Bill Burns at CIA to these, they're not partisan. Untested figures, so I think it most of these get get through despite Senator Holly Richard, This is Rick Davis in Washington. Thanks for being on the program with us today, and I wanted to get back to sort of the global point of view because you're right. I mean, I've spent a lot of time travel around the world and where there's a lot of questions, but heads of state over sort of what is the ark of the U. S. And obviously, I think Biden leaned into that President Biden. Leaned into that by talking about re engagement and and by the power of our example, I think was his quote. And what would those examples be in the near term? I mean, what would you like to see this administration do Either through his Cabinet members of the president or the vice president to actually try to get back in the game and re established that kind of global trust. The biggest thing would be competence and progress versus covert 19 might be the single most important national security statement the United States could make, I think Rebooting. To some extent, the American economy, American economic growth would be welcome The demonstration that our politics our institutions can hold. You will have the United States reenter. Various international orations. We left the Paris climate accords the World Health Organization, and there will be a big emphasis on simply talking to allies to consultations and that suggests multilateralism, which basically puts an end to two things. Pushing into America acting on its own in the world, which was something that Mr Trump's stood for, and it also puts them into the bias towards isolationism. So this will be an administration that will lean into diplomacy and foreign policy and will lead into a collective approach. And I think, for the most part that will be welcome. Richard to borrow hacking expression from an old car commercials. I recall this ain't your father's world anymore. I mean, what gave rise to the post World War? Two structures doesn't obtain anymore, So it's not just about her going backward, right?.

"Is now my great privilege and high honor to be the first person to officially introduce the 46, president of the United States. Joseph R. Biden Jr. Those the words of the senator from the state right next to US, Minnesota Amy Klobuchar, somebody who I thought that could actually have been the choice for vice president for our newest president, Joe Biden, Number 46. On the great list of American presidents, and we watched as you were listening to the ceremony and the great speeches. The great musical we actually we dumped out of coverage there. But Garth Brooks just got a heck of an ovation from folks that in Washington, D. C. I'm a huge cars book's fan, but J. Lo was a part of its and, of course, Lady gaga to sing the national anthem. A couple things real quick. Just listen to the president's speech. And obviously this is one of those moments and every one of these speeches is, of course, historic and everyone is unique. The famous words that came out of president 45 Donald Trump, who is now a former president. As of about 18 minutes ago. American carnage is how he ended that that speech on a lot of people said What does he mean by that? What we saw the last four years play out and earlier in the program City before we joined the coverage. I talked about the successes and some of the failures of the former now former president, But the president, the new president, Joe Biden, used words like Unity. And I would say to that one easily said much harder to accomplish. And we know that's what I was working on a piece for next week on the show about that idea of unity and coming together and bipartisanship in all those those things. We talk about an inauguration time, but we don't always deliver on. In fact, we rarely do Hyper partisan nature of our state government here in Wisconsin. Divided governments. Interesting qualifier, though in the case of incoming President Joe Biden is he doesn't have divided government. He has a Senate that flipped Yeah, some of that foot. He has a house that has a slim Democratic majority and, of course, the Democratic president, so he is not facing challenges that other presidents have faced. Other moments that stuck out that stood out for me. The words like this, we must end this uncivil war, of course, playing on one of the nation's our nation's pivotal moments in the 18 sixties Uncivil war and that speaks to The dialogue we have in this country every day. If you listen to show you've heard me talk about the nature of conversation. And not to get too far into the weeds of what I think is is good Discords this course vs Messy, ugly. Waste the time discourse, which is basically people who do what I do, whether they're on TV or radio, saying things Cause they know they know their audience likes them. But they know in fact that the things they're saying either aren't true or are meant to be inflammatory. That's the nature of what we've seen in public discourse for last 20 or 30 years. And in our nation's history, we saw a play on newspapers. Like that, And now it's instantaneous. Immediate way see the impact of social media. So saying you want to unite the nation and saying you want to see the end of the uncivil war is a great promise and great hope doesn't get us to that reality. I'm thinking about that sentence of the speech in the context of what's going to play out in the center of the next few weeks. We know that the former President Donald J. Trump was impeached for the second time first president our nation's history to be impeached the second time And now he faces trial in the Senate. And if you listen to the words of then majority leader soon to be minority leader, Mitch McConnell This may not be an easy goal for this president. There are some reports that Mitch McConnell never wants to speak to this president again. Former president. Stunning declaration. From a senator who worked closely with President Donald J. Trump to accomplish the things that he wanted to accomplish tax reform. Immigration policy. Economic measures that The president's words. Saw the best economy in our nation's history. Don't think this is a slam dunk for the president not to be convicted. It's not anywhere close to that. And we need 17 my rough count. They already have six or seven. That's not even counting Mitch McConnell. And his ability to swing that votes. Which as minority leader, he could either be actively working on or say it's out of my hands. You do what you want. A lot of people think that the latter is the choice. 85561616 20. We'll spend the rest of the hour talking about the speech. I clipped out a few other Um, phrases and words of the new president. She'll buy and using his speech, so I think, address a lot of the questions that we have as Americans talking about the pandemic and the economy. Immigration. You saw it in the flavor of the other day. Very much of the diverse audience. First group of speakers. And performers. That's Joe Biden's reality. The question is, is that America's reality and that means all of us. We'll get to that and more after the break right here, WTMJ. You're listening to the Steves Graffiti show on.

Tomorrow, the nation will inaugurate its 46 President Joseph R. Biden and its first female vice president, Kamila Harris. Meanwhile, President Trump faces an impeachment trial and there is fear of another insurrectionist attacked. Impeachment Insurrection inauguration. It's a historical try effective and joining us to make sense of it all is historian Heather Cox Richardson, professor of American history of Boston College. And author of How The South Won the Civil War and Welcome Professor Richard's A good to have you It's a pleasure to be here. I guess the place I'd like to begin with you is sort of with your subtitle of your new book how the South won the civil war which is oligarchy, democracy and the continuing fight. For the soul of America. And I'm wondering, particularly since you've written about seeing that holding up of a Confederate flag in the capital is something to make you we personally and what you described is the lowest moment is an American that you have experienced. Being an eminent historian and one who has a large following. I'm wondering what you see is the real soul of America because there's some would say that it's This kind of violent racism and white hegemony of males, But I think we often mean higher morality. What do you mean? When I talk about the principles of America, What I talk about is the concept of human self determination, which was a really radical idea in 17 76. When the framers of the founders of the American Revolution and later the framers of the Constitution tried to create a government based on the idea that every man Yes, it was a man at the time and almost always a white man. But the principle of the idea that human beings were equal that some people were not better than Others is a really radical idea. Now the idea that we somehow got it in 17 76 or with the ratification of the Constitution, and it's been that way ever since is a complete whitewash of our history. But those principles I think, make this country something really worth striving to make to make really come to life. S o. I am never blind to the fact that we have not achieved those ideals. But the fact that they are our ideals, I think matters This is what Abraham Lincoln on. I know you did your dissertation with the fame. Lincoln scholar David Donald, this is these are our better angels that we're talking about. Here is Jon Meacham was constantly reminding us and I wanna explore that further with you. But let me let me go to what happened when that Confederate flag was in the capital. And to some extent, I've been reading your work and you've been talking about Thies. White males, mainly poor white males is being pawns and cannon fighter essentially for those who are more hegemonic in their control of American power. And yet that rebel on that mob or whatever you wanna call it had among. It's um really fierce races who would like to, in fact, start another civil war. Yeah, I think it's important when you think about when I'm talking about oligarchy and democracy. There's a lot to unpack there. But the big themes that I try and pull through American history are those two themes. The one on the one hand that every person should be equal before the law and should have equal access to resource is not necessarily equality of outcome, but equal access to re sources, including education, for example, and equality before the law on the one hand, and on the other hand, this older idea that you know something. We're just better than others. And that was an idea that in the United States that the elite members of the Southern slave holding class in the 18 fifties tried to turn into first the definition of our democracy and then into the bedrock of their own new nation, the Confederate states of America, and they plan to spread that idea across the world. And those two ideas on the one hand that everybody should be equal before the law and on the other hand that some people are just better than others because of their education because of their money because of their connections, because there's somehow just born better are ones that have been at the heart of a struggle within America. But they're embodied, really buy that difference between the American flag that wondering the United States, a Civil War and the Confederate flag that tried to destroy the concept of the quality. So when I saw that Confederate flag The halls of our capital the other day in a place where it had never flown during the Civil War or afterward and all the times that former Confederates tried to make their will known and imposed on the American government. That was a real kick because it suggested that they were enough people in America who really did like the idea that we should be divided into castes, if you will, that they had gained enough of a foothold in our discourse in our politics in our culture in our society to a name. Able them to invade the very heart of our democracy. And that's no small thing. Even though those were is you you quoted me there were a couple of things there, but they were a ragtag bunch of many ways. Yes, but that idea that they symbolized that some people should be better than others strikes to the very heart of what you just called our better angels, But I wouldn't actually call the heart of what it means to be human to strive for self determination. And all I think you are saying is based on equality before the law once that's gone, perhaps this whole great experiment. Has not necessarily descended into Neil is, um, but it certainly has potentially become very seriously assailed on crumble and I'm wondering about where the traditional rule of law fits in your judgment In terms of this impeachment. I think you described it as a constitutional imperative. But If there's a trial that constitutional imperative implies that the Senate to do its duty, and yet we have. Perhaps.

"Those used to be important pressure points that district at home and what they need from the member versus the politics of Washington and the caucus. You know what the leadership is telling them to do? Now you have an additional set of pressures, which is the president. United States told my voters in my district who tend to believe the president nine states because they're Republican voters that they have one set of facts that the election was stolen that it was, you know, properly taken. That the electoral votes were stolen from him. You know that it was an illegitimate election. Then you have Washington and have just gone through this insurrection of the capital who are telling you totally different set of facts that none of these none of the evidence was presented that it was illegitimate election. That repeated Republican judges threw this out in the states that were contested and at the time the electoral votes for count. There were no contests, and so you have a member who has to reconcile not just competing constituencies. Competing set of facts, and I would say it would help every single one of these members if we actually enter a period of time where we all work off the same unified set of facts. On sale. Social media headlines Crossing the Bloomberg Terminal, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer issuing a statement about a page long, he says in the statement. Quote Donald Trump has deservedly become the first president in American history to bear the stain of impeachment Twice over minority leader Schumer goes on to say, quote. Senate trial can begin immediately with agreement from the current Senate majority leader to reconvene the Senate for an emergency session or it will begin after where, after January 19th. But make no mistake there will be an impeachment trial in the United States Senate There will be a vote on convicting the president for high crimes and misdemeanors. And if the president is convicted, there will be a vote on barring him from running again s. Oh, there you have it likely the Well, the incoming Senate on leader McConnell some more pressure being put on leader McConnell from the Democrats. Let's bring into this conversation, Brandon Neil, who is a Democratic strategist who previously worked and the Obama administration. Brandon is also a former political director for the DNC in 2000 and 16 and the former Deputy chief of staff and political advisor on senior adviser to Pete Buddha judges presidential campaign Brandon what pressure is now on the Senate in terms of the process. They're being a Senate trial. Now that President Trump has been impeached again. Able. Thanks for having me on Kevin. I mean, look, I think lets you set the tone next week at this time. We have a new president Joseph R. Biden will be the president. The 46 president of United States at this time, so I think All action. No eyes are on next week. I think moving forward. There will be room for conversation to focus on the impeachment. But I think what the new by an administration they will be focused on the 1st 100 days in terms of this administration. President Biden 11 like blindness, talked about his agenda tomorrow. Talking about the Colbert response in terms of vaccination and with the plan is for the next 100 days. He also talked about what he plans to roll out in terms of working with the members of Congress that relates to his agenda. But I think that you know he's done a great job of not focusing on This particular you know, impeachment and focusing on the hearing, and he's really gonna rely on the Senate, the new leadership that come in and take advisement of the Senate. Let me let me follow up in terms of the process because the Senate impeachment trial, of course, real real take up all of the political oxygen in the room for for for s so to speak. Of Washington, D. C for a trial. A trial as as multiple experts have come out and said, is incredibly important to building a narrative finding evidence getting testimony and what not But President elect Biden still needs his confirmations confirmed so that he could have a cabinet so that he can govern. It's been reported that President elect bite and spoke with leader McConnell about having a dual track, so to speak of there being a trial, along with confirmation proceedings. You know, Based on your conversations, Brandon deal with Democrats that are you confident that that dual track can can can exist at such an incredibly tense political time? Do I mean, I have confidence in the president elect back confidence in our incoming leadership. You know, I think with Senator McConnell and his leadership I think he is the unique job of signaling. Where he stands where and how he wants his current president out without saying it. You know, Lucy yesterday are they saw yesterday with senator chaining their full support. Coming out and also remember Conway's McConnell's wife resigning from her post in the Cabinet. I think that there are a lot more people who are bored with his impeachment that we that we think that we're aware of publicly and I also think that there's a history between the president elect Leader. McConnell is well to working together side by side in incident and establishing a relationship on having that report. So I definitely think that Senator McConnell leader McConnell wants to Put this behind us and move forward so that we can invest in the American people and do what we do best with Americans and America's best. Hey, Brandon, this is Rick Davis. Thanks for coming on. And it's a really good point about the willingness of Mitch McConnell, who's not been known for his bipartisanship throughout his leadership is seemingly trying to make a A partnership with Joe Biden. And we know from reports that they've already talked about what I likely stimulus package might look like and how Joe Biden is looking to have Republican support. For a stimulus package even though he's got Democrat controlled both the House and the Senate. And I think it's worth looking into your thoughts about who will be the new majority leader, Chuck Schumer, and how he may conduct this trial and confirmations for the Biden administration at the same time, because Shortly after the swearing in. There'll be a vote in the Senate and and And Chuck Schumer were the one who runs the impeachment trial. Absolutely. I mean, I think somewhere Schumer has definitely been an exemplar of the field of leadership. And it's not the first time in the first, you know, at the rodeo, so I think that you know, he definitely will be inclusive and you know someone who we can trust. Make sure we're doing the right thing and working in tandem with both sides of the aisle and also the incoming president to make sure things are done correctly, But I want to touch on something you've mentioned during your last segment..

We are writing to you because Secretary Pompeo now appears to have an obvious conflict of interest he reportedly participated personally and the July twenty fifth twenty nineteen recall in which the president pressed Ukraine president to investigate the son of former Vice President Joseph Biden immediately after Ukrainian president raised his desire for the united its military assistance to counter Russian aggression sanitary pompeo should not be making any decisions regarding witness testimony or document production in order to protect himself south or the president any effort by the secretary or the department to intimidate or prevent witnesses from testifying or withhold documents from the committees shall constitute evidence of obstruction of the impeachment inquiry given the secretary's own potential role and reports of other State Department officials being involved in or knowledgeable knowledgeable of the events under investigation that committees may infer that he is trying to cover up illicit activity and misconduct including by the President present this would be a blatant cover up and clear abuse of power that letter to the deputy secretary of state tonight follows a report by NBC News. It was tonight that the Inspector General of the State Department has made an urgent request to brief several congressional committees tomorrow about documents related to the State Department and Ukraine according to multiple congressional sources the request from the State Department's Inspector General comes on the same in day that the head of the State Department Secretary Mike Pompeo sent a letter to the House Foreign Affairs Committee saying that he will not voluntarily make make available five current and former department officials for depositions by the committee one of the witnesses that the House Democrats want to hear from has already agreed to appear for deposition on Thursday Kurt Volker resigned from the State Department last week and therefore is no longer under Mike Pompeo's control in this matter. The pompeo letter does highlight light one point that might be part of the discussion that the State Department's Inspector General urgently wants to have with the congressional committees. The POMPEO letter says quote the invitations the committee sent to the department officials include requests that each of them personally produced a vast amount of documents these requests appear to a duplicate the subpoena that was previously served on the Secretary of state the requested records constitute the property of the Department of State and are subject to restrictions on the unauthorized disclosure of classified information in various executive branch privileges. The pompeo letter went on to say that the committee is asking the witnesses to to quote produce materials that are not theirs to produce the Inspector General of the State Department is Steve Lennox who was appointed to that position in twenty thirteen by I president Barack Obama the inspector general would like to meet with the staff of the House Intelligence Committee the Senate Intelligence Committee the House Foreign Affairs Committee decide Foreign Relations Committee as well as the House Oversight Committee and the House for Raisins Committee the Senate Appropriations Committee. This is an extraordinary question includes democratic staff and Republicans staff. This is a request the likes of which that I for one is a former. Senate staffer have never seen or been party to and fortunately tonight. We are joined by guests to have much more experience than I do. In State Department matters and intelligence committee matters. We'll be joined later in the hour by a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee Senator Kamala Harris who is now a candidate for president secretary. POMPEO's letter blocking the testimony complained that State Department lawyers should be allowed to attend any depositions positions by Congress State Department employees but tonight's letter from the three house chairman to the Deputy Secretary of state says the same rule has been in in place for more than a decade under both Republican and Democratic Chairman of the Committee on oversight and reform and it was in place during Secretary Pompeo's tenure on the Benghazi Z. Select Committee the regulations that Govern House deposition state witnesses may be accompanied by personal non-governmental council to advise them of their rights only members committee staff designated by the chair or ranking minority member and official reporter the witness and the witnesses Mrs Council or permitted to attend observers or council for other persons and Putting Council for government agencies may not attempt the chairman's letter to the deputy secretary of State says the rule is intended for exactly these types of circumstances to prevent the agency head with an obvious conflict of interest in who is directly implicated in the abuses. We are currently investigating from trying to prevent his own employees from coming forward to tell the truth to Congress the three Chairman Adam Schiff the intelligence committee the Foreign Affairs Committee and Elijah Cummings the oversight committee. Tell the deputy secretary of state it is a criminal violation punishable by fine. Mine are up to five years in prison to buy threats or force or by any threatening letter or communication influence obstruct impede or endeavour to do so the due due and proper exercise of the power of inquiry under which any inquiry or investigation is being had by either house or any
