"Tyra majors, come on news. A recent study is attempting to link the way kids text and talk on social media with their mental health. Brian Calvert takes a closer look. The goal here was pretty straightforward. Our interest is in trying to find ways that we can detect who we should be helping a little bit earlier. With that in mind, Nick Allen, the director of the university of Oregon center for digital health says he and a group of peers took a closer look at over 22,000 messages exchanged on various platforms between 30 girls, ages 11 to 15. And what we were able to find with this particular study was that these patterns of language actually reflect people's day to day moods. So in other words, they can tell us a lot about whether someone's having a good day or a difficult day. And it comes down to paying attention to what words are being used. In this case, these girls were using I, my and me, a lot on days they were talking about bad moods or bad days in general. Present tense texts also seem to lean heavily in the bad day column. And so that tells us something about the psychology of the experience of depression that often when people are feeling depressed, they're very focused on themselves often in a negative way. And they're often feeling very stuck in the moment, like they can see the future or something like that. Longer messages also seem to be associated with bad days, which suggested the girls had a desire for someone to hear them out. The interesting rub here is that they were reaching out to other girls who may also have been having a bad day. Perhaps they received some support, but what they really needed was some encouragement from mom and dad. It will take work, but Allen suggests you keep a clear channel of communication wide open. My general advice to parents is that, you know, young people are very privacy, sensitive, about what they do online. So really the ultimate goal is for the parents to develop a relationship with your child, Brian Calvert, northwest news radio. Your stock charts dot com money update on news radio 1000 FM 97 7. Next question. How did I do? I would always prefer somebody having a whole grain bread. However, because sourdough has a culture that it started with, it actually is less impactful on your blood sugar than a typical white bread. So the order ranking is always going with a whole grain bread, but then if you are in a crossroads between what white bread to have, going with sourdough next is a great option. But the dietician is going thin crust rather than say crust to keep all those white flowers to a minimum going easy on the cheese rather than the triple cheese going easy on the cheese and having toppings that are not meat toppings, having more of like the vegetable, the broccoli and the peppers and the onions and the jalapenos to get that sort of pepperoni taste that's sort of my trick because I do jalapenos instead of pepperoni for the spice. The bottom line is thin crust easy on the cheese veggie toppings is your best or just eat the pizza you like and have one piece instead of two huge deep dish of pieces. Want one. We've been squawking about the markets this morning, so let's get a little bit of the pithy comment here from Sofia orteca Bloomberg chief China markets correspondent. So Sophia, when we look at these Hong Kong and China markets, we see a number of issues that seem to be impacting the recovery and the Chinese economy seems to be losing steam a little bit. You've got this ongoing regulatory overhang, somewhat lackluster stimulus coming from policymakers, geopolitics, and maybe last you don't really have any AI champions like you do in the U.S. market. Maybe none of these reasons in itself is all that big of a deal, but it's like the cumulative weight of it is just it's just dragging these markets. How do you see it? Yeah, exactly. The rationale for owning China for owning Hong Kong has really been taking a hit lately. And the key thing right now is the reopening trade. I mean, that was the more straightforward, unemotional, if you will, way to play these markets. And investors are really pegging back their expectations for growth. You know, it wasn't just stocks here, but also European luxury stocks were really rallying on this. It was kind of tight tourism. So the fact that the Chinese consumption recovery is not as good as strong as sustainable as expected, but you also, as you said, rain don't have the PBOC kind of deploying the large scale stimulus that everyone kind of expects when the economy weakens means you don't really have a strong way to play this market either way. And what's interesting is we do have on Wednesday. We'll see the PMIs. We'll see whether the recovery is really not as sustainable as people had hoped. But you're also now starting to hear conversations about credit risks and that's when the market starts panicking. The LG FE that LGE local government financing built vehicle that paid at a very, very last minute. That really spooked markets as well. And you just don't seem to have any champions now. I mentioned AI, but I mean, even if you set that aside and look at ecommerce, the emphasis seems to be on maybe paving the way for some smaller and medium sized companies to join in the spoils and maybe it doesn't look as good for some of the mega caps that we've seen in the past, but do you need champions to kind of drive some enthusiasm? You do need champions. I mean, right now, I'm just looking at my screen now, net eases up 8.5%. So you do have some mega caps that are doing well that are generating that kind of growth that expectations around that have been really, really reduced as well. And China is trying to channel investment into these champions, as you say. AI is a big, big focus. AI especially when it comes to deploying that kind of technology for the military. And also for anything that has to do with competing with the U.S. on chip production and really shielding China's economy economy and innovation from increasingly difficult geopolitical attention it's not just the U.S. but the U.S. is also rallying its allies ASML in the Netherlands to kind of follow suit. But that takes time and channeling investment when the private sector is has lost confidence over the past three years. I was just in Shanghai over the weekend and you still really feel that the impact of COVID is very much still there. Not just COVID, but the regulatory, the punishing regulatory cycle that these companies just went through. So how do you, how do you really channel innovation? It's not just about it's not just about money and funneling funds, but it's also about confidence and that's a lot harder. Is China risking losing confidence of foreign investors? I mean, the confidence trap. It's not just investors. It's also corporates. It's also CEOs. It's also the investors. Very much on the ground. So if you're earnings calls and management's really upbeat, we're starting to get a little bit of that. But it's kind of put your money where your mouth is start investing. There isn't really a strong CAPEX cycle right now. It's very much a let's kind of hold on it and survive. And wait and see. And the wait and see approach from not just a few VOC, obviously. But also corporates and CEOs and the private sector, that doesn't inspire confidence. And to be fair, we didn't really talk about external demand, which may be slowing the global economy. May not be firing in all cylinders. Sophia, thanks, thanks so much for

I'm Dan schwarzman that your Bloomberg world sports update, Brian. All right, thanks very much Dan, the time 16 minutes here before the top of the hour. Let's say good morning to Barbara Ann Bernard, chief investment officer at wind crust, capital. I say good morning because we're here in Asia looking at futures moving higher this morning, Barbara. And so trying to get a reading here on the sentiment in the session in the marketplace as we get going today. It seems like we'll have a little better than sentiment better than average sentiment given the debt ceiling deal tentatively achieved. But then it looks like the odds of a fed rate hike are moving up. So net net, where do we go from here? Well, thanks for having me, Brian. It's always a pleasure. Your guess is as good as mine. It's an incredibly tricky time right now. The market that I find most perplexing is Hong Kong. I notice your futures are flat. And I wish they were up. We've got a lot of exposure to those markets. But as you say, the NASDAQ indicating a 0.5% and the S&P is also cheering this debt ceiling, but the idea that we'll have some great sustained rally because of it is sort of laughable to me because markets haven't sold off going into it. So you can actually make the argument that you want to buy the rumor and sell the news here. How much of the moment Barbara is the market being dictated to not so much by fundamentals and indeed news you just mentioning, but about structure in many ways and how that structure at the moment is involved with let's say liquidity perhaps being very much a part of it. Thank you, Rashad. That's a wonderful question. I was reflecting that I think my generation might be the last two invested in fundamentals because the last 15 years has really been driven by liquidity and narratives. So you look at the race and the AI and that just seems like the next bubble. And if you get in early enough, you can make a lot of money, but then get out. So I don't know how to play the narrative games. I mean, I'm a value investor, Sir John templeton trained at heart. So if everyone's going left, I tend to look right and that's what Sam zell bless his whole always did. And so the things that when I sit back, what's more attractive than cash right now, which you're earning 5% risk free, it has to be what starved for capital. And when I really step back this weekend and thought about it, you know, I had raised 25% cash in my funds and one of my funds I can do private investments. And all three pre IPL opportunities that all filed their S ones. They all thought they were going public in Q four of last year. All three of them didn't. Because the market sold off, all three of them thought they would in Q one Q two. And then when the banking crisis arose, they were advised by their bankers to hold off. These are wonderful companies that we know really well. And what they need now because they're going to market potentially a year. 15, 18 months later, is capital. And of course that's the one thing that's not available. So I suddenly thought about, well, what's the highest and best use for my cash right now? It's probably backing those companies. It's the one place where I can handle my heart, say, this is going to yield a better return than cash or the equity market in the next 12 months. Very good on paper, but you know, there isn't as much transparency in private markets. And I wonder whether or not it's almost a riskier bet, you know, going into a period where we don't know whether or not we might tumble into recession or whether we skate through. I'm sure you've considered that and you like the probabilities, but you have to admit that the transparency is not so much there in private equity. Agreed, Brian, unless you've done an enormous amount of work on these companies, right? I know them very, very, very well. This is a timing problem. The company hasn't done anything wrong. The only reason they're not going to market is the IPO markets are shut and that's beyond their control. So is that sort of something you can take advantage of if you have a longer term horizon. And what I'm saying is it's harder and harder to make money on if you have a month to month view on what's the fed going to do. Are we raising rates? Is the debt ceiling? None of that really matters if you have an 18 month view and can look back on what the opportunity was at that moment. And what I'm saying is the opportunity is always what people are afraid to do. So I appreciate that you might not have the transparency you might not have a liquidity, but if I look at the markets this year

Another interesting new series news note is while max McLaughlin who was kind of like an emerging star in the KNN pro series back in the day, several years back. We'll be making his Xfinity series debut out of nowhere from the top rope. We kind of forgot about max. But he's going to be making his Xfinity debut at Watkins Glen for the new FRS racing team, which is owned by Colin fern, formerly of Brandon built motor sports. Okay, I don't know how you keep track of all this, but that's why you're here. That's what it's all about, man. Yeah. What else we got here? Well, we got some ass for X announcements, but they aren't really NASCAR. These are all IndyCar guys, but Marc mander Eddie Ryan hunter reay, Paul Tracy, who will return for the full season of SRX and Josef Newgarden and Tony Kanaan. We'll return part time this year in the series as well. Well, let's get done. Let's get into Las Vegas Motor Speedway heading into this weekend. It's race number three of 36 on a one and a half mile oval banking is up to 20°. Run stretch is 22 75 backstretch 1572. Cup race is 267 laps or 400 point 5 miles. Stage one is 80 laps stage two is 85 laps and the final stage 102 laps. Last year's winner was Alex Bowman and last year's poll sitter was Christopher Bell. Alex Bowman going into this race, like we talked about earlier in the show. He's been having some good results. He's got that new crew chief Blake Harris, who honestly showed out last year for front row motor sports and his rookie season as a crew chief, which led to him going to Hendrick motor sports in year two of being a crew chief. I like what I'm seeing out of them and I could see that possibly happening too. I could see Kyle Busch winning this week. I can also see Alex Bowman winning this week. Those are two pretty good picks. But while you're on the picking bandwagon, why don't we talk about some drivers? I'm looking at Brad Keselowski. He's Brad Keselowski. Yeah, he's picking things up. He's got three wins at this track. He's got some momentum. He's got a teammate that has some momentum, so they're going to help each other. You know, it's not that outlandish. I could see it. I could see it. They've been training in the right direction. Obviously buscher got that win at Bristol last year in the fall, which Keselowski dominated that race. So I could see it. As weird as it seems, because last year, at this point, had you said that, that would be a laughing joke. Totally, totally. Yeah, but they have actually, they have started pulling things together. They've had a lot of good results down the stretch last year. And now to start this season, they're looking pretty okay. So someone else I like is Joey Logano. He's got three wins at this track. He's the defending Cup Series champion. It's not crazy there either. No, it's not. But in order to win a race, a driver, you think would have to be kind of clean, right? They don't need to be getting an incident. But he's going to automatically get into incidents. Well, now my thought process here is let's look at the drivers who have not been involved in on track incidents this season through the first two races. Okay. Which I keep track of at tobruk dot com. We've got a Toby tracker. Of course. Sure. So we're two races in. How many drivers do you think have not had an incident yet this season? Ten. Ten, you're a little high. Oh, okay, 5. Oh, you're a little low. 7. You're almost 7. Have not, but only 6 that have run both races have not. So when you're looking at drivers that run both races that have not been involved in on track instant at all this year, wow. You're looking at Chris busher, Joey Logano, Ricky Stenhouse junior, incredibly, because he's almost always perennially at the top of this list. The wall finds him. Yeah, it does. But he's been very clean this year, Cody where Daniel Suarez and BJ MacLeod. So when you look at the hold up, I thought I saw Ricky and the fence at Auto Club. Well, he could have barely touched the fence. That doesn't count. If you scrape the fence or something like that, it has to make you go to pit road or something like that, or you have to be involved in one of these big chain reaction crashes or something like that. If you don't spin and you don't have something like a tire cut down due to contact with something, it doesn't count as an incident. That being said, when you look at the people who legitimately could probably win this weekend that don't have incidents and have looked pretty clean this year and you mentioned Chris busher, that's Brad Keselowski's teammate. These incident free Joe Logano, pretty good at Vegas too, I believe. I think he won the fall last year here, right? I think so. And then Daniel Suarez, he's been really, really good as well. So that's three pretty good guys there too that have kind of been clean this year that could possibly win. Somebody who's been the least clean to this point. Who do you think has the most instance this year, Kerry? Wow, that's a tough one. Two races in. Larsen? No. Not Larson. Chase? Nope, not chase. I don't know. This is a guy who needs a win really badly because he didn't get one last year, but Ryan Blaney has 5 incidents. Through the first two races of the season. That's a lot for two races. That is. Now you had a lot of bad luck at Daytona. And had a lot of bad luck this past week. But yes, 5 incidents and two races. Hey, by the way, I want to mention this because I don't know if people realize this. My hats go off to Ryan Blaney and Joey Logano. They were scheduled to be up in the booth for the Xfinity series race, which is normally held before the Cup Series race. And they do their thing and then they race the Cup Series race. They head off on their jet and head home. They stuck around and did the Xfinity series race despite it being scheduled afterwards because of The Rain. And they did a bang up job. So cool. That is the unsung heroes of the weekend for sure because they had every reason in the world to tell Fox, sorry. Yeah, it's been a day, guys. I'm out of here. But they didn't. They stuck them around. The Xfinity race was originally scheduled for Saturday, got rained out. Snowed out, whatever you want to call it. And so that moved the expanded race to after the Cup race on Sunday. So it had already been a long day for these guys running the Cup race. And neither one of them won, so they were both not probably the happiest of moods after the race because race car drivers like to win. Still stuck around, like you said, still did the broadcast and like you said, did a really good job.
