"Slow. You see the time it's all the time we go 24 or 49, especially on the grass. The times are lower. And sometimes people wonder why they don't just don't go, but sometimes you go and you go in 48 and you don't get there. People from the back beat you. So. Everywhere is different, you know? It's a good question, but Keanu can talk in your more modern similar and California and golf ring they are very similar to. Jose, you have set so many records on the racetrack and you are about to set another one. I think you've just equaled Mike Smith for the most phone calls we've taken during this segment. Mike was on to kick things off with this when we debuted this segment four weeks ago. And I believe he had 7 phone calls in that segment. One more and you're going to break that record too. So give Jose a call 888-966-4776. That's 8 8 8 9 6 6 hrn and your chance to call in and be the host of the show and talk with Jose Ortiz. That was a great question too. Talking about the different styles, not just the racetracks, but the different, the different writing colonies, the different styles of the riders based on the surfaces. That's an interesting question, Jose. Yeah, it was very good, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. You know, you're known for being very good on the grass, but obviously you're excellent in writing dirt races too. Do you have a preference as to which surface you like to ride? No, just depend on the horse. Yeah. Yeah. When you go to those different tracks, like you mentioned California and the quicker tracks and even Florida. And then New York's a little slower. Do you have to adjust your riding style or is it all strictly based on the horse you're riding? You got to adjust. And you don't just, you kinda did. You have to just. Yeah. All right. Well, I think we've got the record now. John is in bardstown. Josh is in bardstown. Sorry, Josh, and Josh go ahead. You are hosting the show with Jose Ortiz. Hey, glad to be here, guys. I appreciate your show Mike. I just wanted to help Jose. I think the right answer is to say, hey, thank you for all you do. Maybe a good question I would have is about Churchill downs and just kind of what you like most about racing in central downs. I like both trucks. I think they're very fair, but you know that history of Churchill's down is amazing. When you're raising there at inspire, you can see every time I go by the wire I look at the inside, the winner circle of the Derby island that I gave me goosebumps, you know, I want to be there one day and I really love that I want church. All right. Well, Josh, appreciate the phone call. Jose, we're about out of time really appreciate you doing this here today. I know our listeners really enjoy getting a chance to talk to you. All the best coming up with your mouths this weekend and beyond and every time you get a leg up safe trip, my friend. Thank you, Mike..

"Like him going into it. We have a very good trip, but you know, justify was a better horse. That day, and that season. And I gained some very cool horse too. Yeah, well, Chris, I appreciate the email. And again, you can email the show might get horse racing radio dot net. If you want to ask your question of Jose Ortiz, Dave and Chicago is back with us, Dave, you're on the line with Jose. Go ahead. Hey guys, hey, thanks for doing this. I think a lot of the fans appreciate this type of thing where we can actually connect with the people that we watch every weekend. So we really appreciate it. I did want to go back to Saturday real quick. Sacred life on in the turf classic there in the turf Pegasus. What is, what do you think is it the instructions or do you think that for some reason that horse just does not get there? And do you think it's an issue where he's not more on the front end or do you think that it's everything is just save for the last turn and then just rush to the line because colonel Liam can it seems like colonel Liam can be on the front end in the middle of the pack and then finds a way to get there. But what do you think it is about sacred life that he just can not get there or just has trouble? What do you think it is? Is it do you think he's too much a bunch stop or do you think that he needs a little more recent room on the outside? So I just wanted a little insight on when you ride him like on Saturday, what do you think the biggest issue is with that horse and we really appreciate this again and stay safe and we'll be watching in Florida this winter. Thanks Jose. Well, secret life is a very laid back course. It's a little lazy early on these little hard to take on early on position himself in a good position going into the first term. And you can see march they are blue, they turn a little bit kind of took me out of there, but I try to be a little bit more forward. But I wasn't able to because he don't have that speed early on, you comparing him to colonel Liam currently on his tactical speed. As you can see, he put himself in a very good position to win. And I think that was a key for him because he got that tactical speed early on. Sacred life doesn't hold that is a little bit more laid back and you know it take a little bit more riding to be on a good position and golfing is so hard to close, you know, it's a fast track the turf is faster and it's very hard to close. You've got to be on a good position passing the trigger. You can be too far out of it. Unfortunately, we were too far too far out of it. In the first, the first term was where I lost the race, you know? Great answer. Great question. Two Dave appreciate it. 888-966-4776. We have about another. Oh, 6 or 7 minutes to spend with Jose Ortiz. He's answering your questions. You are hosting the show. I'm turning it over to you, HR and nation. Your chance to connect and ask questions of Jose Ortiz. Sarah sends an email to us from Tampa. And Sarah wants to know Jose, what is the, who is the favorite horse that you have never written? And write so many good ones. It's hard to choose one. But. Maxfield I really like maxfield, really like magic. I really like lover dad. There were so good on so easy to ride. So it's hard to pick one, but that's I give you three of them. Yeah. Yeah, well, thanks are appreciate it. And again, you can email the show. If you don't want to come on radio, that's fine. Mike get horse racing radio dot net, submit your question on our social media pages or call in right now to talk live with Jose Ortiz. You be the host, 888-966-4776. That's 8 8 8 9 6 6 8 N Jose to think back on your career. And I know that there are still plenty more good days ahead. But to think back on everything that you've been able to accomplish, that question is hero is making me think about this. All the good horses, all the good owners, all the good trainers. When you first started out, I know you want to get to this point, but could you ever imagine it would get to where it is today? Well, you know, you never imagine. You're going to get the opportunity, but thankfully, thanks to the hard work also, we're getting good opportunities from good own and good trainers and we're writing Google horses and I'm trying to do the best I can try to take advantage of all the good opportunities I'm getting, you know? Yeah. Yeah, well you're doing that. Troy is in New Jersey Troy, go ahead. You are on hosting the show with Jose Ortiz. Yes. You're right in Florida, New York in Kentucky and in California. What is the difference between the actual writing styles which places the better? With places better well, the actual difference between the riders. It's a different call. California is a little bit more fast. Phase always is going to be a lot faster. Golf stream, kind of the same way that both trucks are fast and you always have some speed going on.

"Really because we are so, so close. Like, 14 months apart and honestly, I always have been like a role model to me. Everything he does, I try to do the same. You know, we work hard to do a better or do the same. Like I say, is that rivalry there on the truck, or it's very healthy, it's nothing. Yeah, not like trying to be better, you know, always you want to try to win. But I would call it a very healthy good rivalry. Yeah, he's your brother. You love him, but it's still nice to beat him once in a while. Yeah, yeah. All right, Vince is in California, Vince, go ahead. You are hosting the show with Jose Ortiz. Hi, Jose. I was just wondering who started writing first between the two of you who was the leader and who followed. My brother is a year older than I am and he started a year before me. And then I followed behind him. Was that here in the United States or was that in your home country? In Puerto Rico. Yeah. And Puerto Rico. Okay. Yes. I just want to let you know another thing. A lot of guys at the OTB say just bet the Ortiz brothers in exact a box. That's the word that you hear quite a bit at the OTBs. So you do that probably make a lot of money. Great line. Vince appreciate the phone call. 888-966-4776. That's 8 8 8 9 6 6 hrn. Your chance to host the show and call in and ask your question of Jose Ortiz. Jose, how often do you hear those kinds of things? You're traveling around and you're mingling with fans at the racetracks. I know you're always very social with people. How often do you hear, hey, you know, just bet the Ortiz brothers or hey, so and so said I just need to bet you all the time and I'm going to win. It happens everywhere we go, people say that they box the exact. Well, Jim is in New Jersey. He's on the line with Jose Ortiz. Jim go ahead. Hi, Jose been a fan for a long time. In fact, back in 19 and back in 2013, I met you opening day after you won the first race of opening day. And I took a picture of you and I imposed the result of the race and I gave you a copy of it the following week. I don't know if you remember that far back. But you decided to stay in New York this winter, are you going to bypass key linen steak in New York this year?.

"Said there are some similarities between Jack Christopher and good magic and because of that, in part, he wanted you to ride Jack Christopher, what do you think of those similarities between the two horses? That's what the listener would like to know. Yeah, early on on their career, they're very similar. They got a very similar style of running, which is very speedy early on. And they keep carrying carry on that speed. They are, they physically, they look like a lot. Since he got the horse in the bar, he told me he liked him a lot. And he wanted me to ride him. That question comes from the Derby path on Twitter, Derby path appreciate that one. Let's go back out to the phone lines. Lou is in Toronto, Lou go ahead. You are on with Jose Ortiz. Hey, gentlemen, welcome to you be the host with blue from Toronto. I want to thank Jose eclipse winner and acquiring turf specialists on the term. And to join us today. And Mike Penn also. I have a question for both of you. First Jose with you. I like to ask you. Growing up with, I read and being 14 months apart, I was wondering with a competitive juices growing up from Puerto Rico to the jocks room. Can you give us an idea, are you still with competitive as you were as children or you weren't as much as children going to an adult? We have been competitive, but it's been very healthy, you know. We got a great relationship, but we go out there now, we know what is a stake. We got it right for our owners and trainers and we give 100% growing up same thing, but we play different sport baseball basketball. And we were teams, you know. For each other, but now you know, we're writing for different owners and trainers and you have to give you business on them. That's our job, but the driver is there. Ira is number one number two in the country every year. I mean if you want to be back on a great day and eclipse our position, you're going to have to go over him, you know? All right. Well, there we have it. Thanks, Lou for the phone call. 888-966-4776. The number to call in and ask your question of Jose Ortiz. This is indeed you be the host, your chance to take over the show and host the show. Jose, that was an interesting question. Do you gain some motivation? I know I have a brother and we were always playing sports together growing up and there's always that sibling rivalry. Is there something there that motivates you thinking, man, I'm not letting him beat me? Not.

"And now we get a chance to turn over the show to you. It is you be the host and champion jockey Jose Ortiz is nice enough to spend some time with us here today looking forward to that. I will open up the phone lines momentarily, but want to give you a quick update on the poll question today. Keep those coming at HR N on Twitter, horse racing radio network on Facebook, which of this weekend's Kentucky Derby points races has the strongest field, 80% of you continuing to say, it is the holy bull stakes down at Gulfstream. Time will tell. All right, let's go ahead and welcome in Jose Ortiz, who is joining me now for you be the host. Jose, good morning, my friend. Do we have Jose? Can you hear me? Yes. There we go. How you doing? Good morning, good morning, how are you guys? Good morning. We're really looking forward to this segment. We already have a caller on the line. I already have a question on social media. So we'll go ahead and open up the phone lines now. It is you be the host and blaze is going to take over the show. He has a question, blazes in Louisville. Blaze go ahead. You are on the line with Jose Ortiz. Hey, thanks, Mike. And great segment here. A Jose. Just a quick question about your time in Saudi Arabia. Follow you on social media and saw you had some fun out there with a winner or two. And was wondering, I saw you post and stuff about Krispy Kreme donuts. Are they that good in Saudi Arabia compared to here in Kentucky? Yes, same thing. Exactly the same. Exactly the same nice to hear. And then just the horseman scene out there and the whole horse racing seat overall, Saudi Arabia. What were some of your takeaways from that? Yeah, it's very good that people love heart racing out there and they're very passionate about it. I really love it. It's my second time out there. And I'm looking forward to go there every year, you know? People love our racing out there. All right, there we go. Keep those questions coming. 888-966-4776, the number to call 8 8 8 9 6 6 HR, and you get the chance to talk with jockey Jose Ortiz. This is you be the host. And Jose, I did get a question on social media for you here. This is interesting. Chad Brown, who you ride for quite often,.

"A Pennsylvania Derby that hot rod Charlie would have beat him that day because he ran such a huge race, but that did not happen and he beat the stuff in that of him in the British cup classic. He was much better than him. Yeah, actually, hot rod Charlie is a horse I liked a little bit in the breeders cup classic and I was disappointed that he came he kind of came up empty the last quarter of a mile. And not to say that he should have gone and gotten Nick's go. But the fact that he was outrun by both essential quality and Medina Spirit pretty easily in that last quarter of a mile, I thought was a little bit disappointing, but he's obviously a very good horse, and we're nitpicking right now at the best horses in the world. But it's been an interesting week. It's been more sad than good this week between Medina spirits untimely passing. The rough riding of Iraq or ts and him getting suspended 30 days. By the way, I thought it was speaking of Ortiz, I thought it was very interesting that his brother Jose decided to remain in New York all winter. The person is obviously a tremendous there at aqueduct. Even in the winter time and I would think he is head and shoulders the favorite to be the leading writer at that winter meet at aqueduct. But if I'm not, if I'm not mistaken James, this will be the first Gulfstream meat in a while that Jose Ortiz Joel Rosario and John Velazquez will not regularly be riding. Yeah, that is. That's amazing. I mean, that's remarkable. And I know that Kendrick Carmouche and Dylan Davis and others were disappointed to see Jose announced that because they were looking forward to not having to deal with him. Right. Well, I mean, Kendrick Carmouche and Eric can't sell, we're in a nip and tuck battle all the way to closing day of the winter meat last night and I think can't sell had like a phenomenal weekend and caught him right on the last day after Kendrick was winning leading most of the way. And now they're going to have to deal with Jose Ortiz, who is going to ride all the Chad Brown horses that are still there and ride a lot of the Todd Fletcher horses that are still there. And it's going to be tough on them. But the money talks and there's a lot of money year round in New York and if you can deal with the cold weather, why not? James it's been another fun edition my friend look forward to speaking with you next week. All right, Seth will do. Talk to you later. All right, on behalf of our producer Lee de la pina co host James Scully, I'm Bobby Newman. Thanks for joining us on the brisk net dot com call in show. A reminder race day presented by twin spires tomorrow three to 6 Eastern Time. We'll have live action from aqueduct. Gulfstream and Oak Lawn park..

"Trainer Wayne catalano his first of four breeders cup victories, boy was that a big one. She was simply spectacular that day. And throughout her entire career, really, she was tremendous, and Wayne added that fourth victory this past Saturday at del mar when aloha west stormed to victory in the breeders cup sprint. And when I say stormed, the margin was very, very narrow, but aloha west put in that customary late kick and the cat man was ready to strike again and he pounced this time as did aloha west and Wayne catalano was with me now here on the horse racing radio network. Weighing good morning. Good morning. How are you? Man, everything's great, brother. I want to mention too, this interview presented by our friends at jellyfish water. Wayne, what a moment that was last weekend, huh? It was great. It was really close call as everybody knows, but I'm getting a little too often like that. It was a great one. Yeah. Well, you know, I love aloha west. I bet aloha west in that previous race at keeneland and I love closers like this. But boy, they can test your heart, can't they? Yeah, they do. Yes, they do. That was a great run. It was all proud of them, obviously, and they did a great job with all happy with them. Put me there with you at del mar as you're watching the race unfold. Walk me through it. Okay. We up there with trying to find my box. We get to the box when it's all set on the race goes off. I see breaks okay and then it kind of shuffled back just a little bit. I'm okay. Everything is good. It goes down the back side. They actually remove the hair and goes by two horses. Okay, we get up, they will go past a couple of houses and Jose's gotten the perfect position. Everything's great. He's then behind the horses. He's saving the ground around there. He edges up close again. When he turns the hole and he gets straight this time he shifts them out at a clear track. And he makes a nice, wrong. He's running, mid stretch, like, man. Is he going to get there? We got him wrong in these running great, everything's good. And he hits the wire. I'm like, oh, I think I got the on the live shot, the first shot at, I'm like, man. I couldn't see it as well. Looks like we got nailed there. And then I watched a second shot of soil. Close, third shot, I'm like, wow, I'm not a got there. All three shots for me to think, you know, I got a shot to hang up and then it didn't take long. I'm the number up, and obviously, you know, we went crazy from now. We was all happy and jumping up and down and trying to really start with trying to get in there and it was unbelievable. You mentioned Jose Ortiz and look, I mean, Jose, his brother Ira, these are two of the best riders that we have in the game today. They have been for several years. You're a former writer Wayne. So are jockeys, are they taught? Is there a skill that you learn where you know where that wire is and you want that horse's head coming down at the wire? Is that a thing? It's not. It's kind of like Jose did what you're supposed to do. Imaginary wire is a jumper to pass the wire. Really? You have to go and jump past the wire or two. That's your imaginary line. You'll want to be riding through to Wyatt. Not at the wire. Okay, why is that? What a difference comes on. Well, because you want to do what he did. That's how he got up. Yep. You don't want to misjudge it too close. You just ride right through the wire. You go past the wire. People stand up like I jump right at the wire. That's not good. You want the motion. You want the head. You want to run it. You aren't going. You want to be that stride. Liar. Yeah, wow. That's the difference. It was spectacular. And he's so good at that. I mean, he's Jose Ortiz for a reason. And he wrote beautifully. He did a great job. Sees him as a kid on a square at the press conference. He may have the difference for the last rival. Yeah. Well, you're stuck with him. You gave him another shot. What he did, Aaron talked to him, he talked to me. So what do you want to do? I said, listen, he's a great Robin. He likes to hawks, he knows the halls, he thinks he can win the race. Let's go with it. Let's stay with era. When did you know it worked out? When did you know you had something here with aloha west that you might have this caliber of horse? Well, you know, all along the show like you had a lot of talent, you know? He acted like he had talent, laci pierce, my assistant train and got on the first day. He come in. She was really like him a lot, you know, just riding in the first time, just like in the way he traveled. He's okay. And then you want to run in some good races in the last two races at Saratoga was amazing races. So man, the numbers went off. He goes a 102 higher. I mean, you know, you get a 6 on the rag sheets. That's a pretty good horse, you know? And he just kept getting better and better. And at the Phoenix, he lights out. I told Aaron when he comes out and he works it work like Johnson and this might be the best loss ever had in my hands on. He said, wow, that's a big statement coming from you. You had a few good ones. Yeah. So now some very that went down. Wow, some very good ones. That is a big, you feel like this might be the best of the best way. Right now, you know, I'm hoping this is the one, you know, this is on the whole top and we went really, really good horses. I've been fortunate enough to have good clients with good horses, could help great career as a jockeying great career as a trainer and these are you get up every modified and makes a lot easier to 7 day a week and everybody that works all so hard on these horses and love the horses and.

"A starting point in the launching pad to kick off her summer and the rest of her campaign in twenty twenty. One she'll probably end up going off favor the way that i look at it Platinum painter obviously another interesting horse with some front end speeds The two of them probably will get to know each other early in the race Medina's is right there. The german bread hector junior or no delacour is one plenty of races across the country and get great. re like this is probably well spotted and Ambi rick probably the biggest question mark. That's that right factor here because you get grabbed motion On a horse that had run at goodwood last time at a mile has only been on the turf. It looks like twice And had to fourth place finishes so She should move up horse. Jose ortiz sees fit enough to ride the horses. Well so so. Maybe she goes off favorite. I think i think princess grace those favored and just the way that i view it a great to winter in here. He's been awful a little bit so obviously that that is the question mark. But i think if you say within those four and you can kind of find out who's gonna be the value and who's going to be your winter Then you can catch them tickets but should be nice rate zero feet. We'll see feed hold up to When the when the turf rail which is new the temporary that's gone in and and with the different settings that now that we're zero feet you do see some of these horses launching from the back and they're able to pick up these front runners so i think you wanna come from just off of it and that's why it'd be against the horse like platinum painter. Because it looks like she really she wants to cruise up there upfront. And she. She'd like to be alone on the lead in.

That's something that every dad would love to hear. I know your kids are still very very young. But they'll they'll grow up fast and you are trying to balance being one of the top jockeys in the country and be a father at the same time. How do you do it. Well as you know. taylor road on may get a lot easier for me G understand what it takes. Chino found the morning afternoons handicapping night. g understand that so that helped me a lot but i try to to keep us apart when i go back to the house. I do play as much as i can with them. And when i'm gone so they watch him teeny on. They cheer phoned in from home. What do they think of dad riding horses for a living then they do. You do young to do on this time yet. They only know. I'm gonna ride horses beyond don't understand the whole the whole picture yet. You know. I talked to todd pletcher. A few weeks ago A trainer talk show. And i asked him similar question about balancing being a top trainer and and trying to be a father and and all those types of things and he much like you. He talked about his wife tracy. And how instrumental. She has been in helping to make that easier but he also regrets not always being there for some of the you know soccer games and things like that that he's had to miss out on because he's working as the kids get older. Is that something. That's going to be hard for you to think to to not be there for some of the things that they're going to be doing. Yeah sure of course you're doing you don't wanna miss those kinda off of event but unfortunately in our job you know. Saturday is a big day so we cannot may saturday either But yeah. I'm be sad when that time comes but it is what it is and and i play to make it as much as i can to you know when i can. I make sure. I go when i cannot go. I don't feel bad but yeah it'd be it'd be a little weird talk with jose ortiz here on the horse racing radio network again welcomed nikolai to the family last friday. What a great name. Where did the name come from my wife. Who was one of the. We may got less on wiki chore. Short making a shirtless. Take some things out and When he was the one last man standing names And we both agree We both like My wife my wife big names the other children lay lonnie and derek jose. Where did those names come from is that you're was that her to i big their first two likely lonnie Wyan maine's beautiful flower and will do reports or if aid derek. I always liked the name and i knew when i had a boy. Let's go derek. So i i do so. He was heard to bake the third thing. If any of the children come to you one day and say dad. I wanna be jockey to what do you tell them cannot said they finish. School lives as soon as they can go. They can go ahead on. Be yucky for sure. I'm support them in whatever they want to. You know Hopefully they go on to something else because is not easy But i cannot tell them not to do it when i did it. You know so. I i guess the time will come and let them decide whatever they want to do. Whatever they want to do. Then i'll be there to support them Hundred samuel so many times when we talk about jose ortiz. We're talking about your older brother. Erade too and it's so great that the two of you get to well number one worked together but live so close to each other. Does it help having the two families so close because iraq has has his children to does it. Does it help you help helps. The kids They get along really really well and they play a lot when they do get it. So it's great. I live on to main away from from my house here Sometimes it goes through three weeks that we don't see each other but they finally get together like now going to throw and stuff gonna be great They have a ton of fun when they see. Let's seek them together. There four of them go is leader. One don't know much one either. So when four big ones get together they had all so it'd been it's been great for their family. My mom is a year. we'd us. I mean can get any bad. We are super happy. I remember sitting down with you and your brother for one of our jock talk programs. We did years ago. We sat down at saratoga. And the two of you were together with us and it was it your grandfather. That was a big influence. You and your brother getting into racing or was it your father. My my grandfather rode on my own court. Did to bud my father he he was He wanted to write. He wanted to ride but he couldn't go through heavy But yeah my. My father was a huge influence for the he one of to be junkies. You know well. For whatever reason it turned out wonderfully for you. And for your brother and your. I'm sure your dad. Very very proud and Yeah i'm sure you're going to have a wonderful time spending time with the family on father's day weekend. I know you're working. But you'll get some time. "Approach the turn. Leon in amazing it took eighteen one shot running if a leader it shake things up back in charge a will take charge philly at Jose Ortiz aboard. Usually we think rod coming with that style off the base But Jose rallying as the longest shot on the board at eighteen to one and he can't feed as you mentioned. You don't know how many of those are constellation of players. How many of those are trying to make their way up the leaderboard? Yeah this semi final round not easy to cover between the composition of the room on the day and the lack of leaderboard updates. But you have to figure that's going to change who we're looking at in the top ten somebody It's GonNa probably to align the wing is saying about the getting the resistance in seeing about it. I did hear a little noise of bleed from the middle of the room Saying that new leaderboard on the big screen at least on the big screen. And let's see if it matches up with the it it does. It does matchup lesion. I think it does appear to. This is still aquit. I'm looking at here so we might need rabbit from the big screen and be. I'll take picture if I can get it quick at excuse coming to you from the Events Center flatters with US FOR VS. I N Ron give everybody the network coordinates for serious listeners. Very kind of thank you. Very.
Racing Without Gambling
"I'm guessing you've heard of the Kentucky Derby Abi to this race that's run usually early in May we haven't yet talked about the Kentucky Derby this year but that's about to change as we're finally starting to get into rounds of prep races that will winnow the field down to twenty for the run for the roses on May the second so to help us do that. We bring in voice. We haven't heard on this show for too long and and that's Jonathan Listener who writes for horse racing nation. Welcome back Jonathan. So before we get into a few specific horses. WHO's impressed you the most so far on the triple triple crown trail? I think Dennis moment to start the list. Dentists moment strikes to lead right at the top of the stretch at Delta. Two lanes lead our three lately for the final final furlong. Dennis this moment with five length lead scabbard with clear sailing up the second but Dennis moment kicks off the road at the Kentucky Derby in a big way. He barely moved a muscle. That we we have it. RESTRAINING NATION DOT COM user generated Kentucky Derby contender rankings and despite his trouble that experience career dentist moment has not left that number. One spot. You talking about a grade three winner. Who was going to be the favourite the Breeders Cup Juvenile L. Stumbles out of the gate? You know he could be undefeated if you look back at his debut he lost his jockey was really no fault zone so he has the two losses and between between them. He's sandwich to really really nice. Looking victories including his debut at Ellis Park they won by like nineteen and a quarter lengths. I think it was so there's a lot of potential there and he's one that I feel like every once in a while you hear about a derby prospect before they make their debut and then we kind of latch onto them I wanna say it was probably roadster roadster last year because Baffert said he could be his next justify American Farrow and obviously it didn't work out there but they'll Romans has talked up Dennis's moment since before he he ran a race. And so we're we're kind of going to the same thing here As far as a couple of other runners eight rings also out of the Breeder's cup juvenile. He's a really interesting. One didn't really run his race. You know the last time we saw him but I think the way he's going to be handled this season. You have to keep paying attention trained by Bob Baffert. He's he's GonNa run him in the rebel at Oaklawn. And then the Arkansas Derby potentially there as well and then another one that you know kind of on the fence about that you know. He's got a lot of towns. Is Max `field scratched from the Breeders Cup Juvenile. He had a little bit of an issue. There it turns out we found out a couple of weeks after that that he had had a minor surgery for a bone chip. But he's not even in serious training now. Well he's he's he's apparently galloping No works yet and so I think they'll have to do the to A. Ah kind of schedule where you hope to get race out of them and then you have a more serious race which I would expect to be something like the blue grass stakes if everything works out well and he's undeniable town. I'm and I think he's GonNa win a major race somewhere down the road. I don't know if it's going to be the Kentucky Derby and then the other one I feel like it's gotten all the conversation is independence hall at at Independence Hall now makes his move. Independence Hall is the leader getting away to lead by two prints of Pharaohs has moved up on the outside. It's Bourbon Bay Independence All L. linked and a half as they come for the quarto prints of Pharaohs on the outside Bourbon Bay. It is independence hall with the lead and now a furlong to the finish Jose Ortiz showing them the whip now goes to work on independence hall. WHO has a three likely? Just a sixteen to the finish at. It's the constitution called Independence Hall. Tailwind Jerome by four Knights won the national stakes by open links came back and won the jerome. It was a little more workmanlike. But he's going to go. Oh into the new year here as another one of the favorites and if I could talk about one more that has sort of attracted my attention a little bit. It's this ancient warrior horse. I don't know what his path is going to look like. He's Jerry Hall android or for trainee. And if you follow racing at all the last year or so. You'll know that. He's SORTA become embattled. Dan from the strike. Group's tracks out in California But I of all these horses that have won maiden races and we'll be going to the stakes. I want to watch that one closely. He's moved him over to Oakland Park. We should see him in an allowance. Race coming up at the beginning of February and then from then on he should be on the Derby trail else. That's one that that I definitely want to see more of well. You mentioned Bob Baffert. And it's tough to talk about the Kentucky Derby Trail Without Bob Baffert and he has a lot more than the one you mentioned. There's thousand words who ran a big race in the low sal futurity. I'm a Roger Federer Fan but you have to give it up for an doll who is also ambassador trainee. Who looked really really good? So I mean you know Bob Baffert certainly knows how to get horses to the Derby mean how many of these prospects aspects of pan out. I see a path for all of them. To be honest. You know and we also have mentioned authentic. It's still authentic coming to the three the eight ball. He's been in control throughout leads by a length and a half to uncaptured hero. It's all authentic as they pass the quarter pole and turned for home authentic and complete Khaliq Command turning it on. He's in front by sex with a furlong left to go. Zimba Warrior and Assault Coast as authentic is putting on a show. Here is a little green gene shifting about but long gone authentic strolls home in the sham. He'll win by about eight lakes green. It's Grafton stretch and just kept going there and another extremely impressive Horse Nidal I. I wonder about him a little bit. You know we've only seen him one time on Sunday and that six and a half for a long race he he looks like Dortmund Ortmann if you go back to two thousand fifteen big horse. That wasn't extremely fast out of the gate but once he got into stride he went straight to the pace and never really let up there. Yeah it's not not really the kind of horse you want to win the Derby but I think you could get to the Derby and then thousand words certainly has every reason to move forward his last race. I think they had probably a little bit the too much blinker on him and he ended up going head to head with that no door that ran in the Breeders Cup juvenile second. I think it's SORTA legitimize both of those horses that they ran so closely in the future. But I think thousand words is probably at least a couple of lengths better then a no door. He just probably didn't see him in the stretch until Flavian Kinda guided him out and it's like Oh with the blinker. The horse realized he had something to run against a win on. So I guess when you talk about horses that I'm looking at in the new year. Thousand Words is definitely on that shortlist list to Jonathan Listener of racing. Nation is with us here on the gate. We've talked a little bit about the Breeders Cup juvenile which was a topsy turvy race. You had three big horses that we've mentioned into all had their problems that day. We haven't talked about the horse. Who Wanted Storm the court for trainer Peter Martin and that would be a very popular win in the racing business? As you know what chance do you give storm the court to back up what he did in the juvenile. Oh probably not much not a lot of black type in the family. I'm not sure if there's any black type from Stanley I'd agree wise. And then you know he was obviously the beneficiary of other horses stumbles in that race You Know He. He goes gate to wire was not really pressed a whole lot and at the same time. I think they took the blinker. They put their blinkers on. I'm sorry and I have not a fan of lemon. That put blinkers was on a horse at that point in their career. I feel like you should be taken them off so that they can relax. Prepare to go a little bit longer. I think that race and the circumstances just all all came together for storm the court and allowed him to upset that race. It's forty five to one. Whatever he ended up that day I'm sort of in agreement? I think with everybody else that the the the better Derby Derby prospect was no door and second in that race going forward. I want to mention because these races have just happened. Enforceable label for Mark Cassie. Who is not missed? A beat after a son norm went out on his own. He had been his father's chief assistant and enforceable. Really good winning the Lecomte. But we haven't seen too many Lecompte winners. Go on to run well in the Kentucky Derby. Where do you put me as a tap it colt out of a dixie union in marriage? The breeding is good. I put him a really high on my list. As far as forces will be in the Derby but I would not put him on my list of forces that I think can win the Derby and I say that because of his running style you know if we go back to almost every year that the point system has been effect and obviously gets rid of those pure your sprinters. It's the horses that can put themselves near the front at the beginning of the race and keep that pace up and never be caught by closers that tend to win the Derby enforceable enforceable is one of those closers. It's inevitable that he's GONNA run into traffic problem you know. I almost hope he sneaks into the Derby and everybody overlooks. Because I feel like he's the kind of horse could come into the super factor. That's probably going to be a really common line of thought. Though I mean I'm thinking a few months out but the soup perfect You know in the era of a favorites winning the Derby is as remain because it's pretty high minimum of really profitable wager for people nonetheless so yeah for me. He's a super effective player. I I I think he's GonNa be okay as the distance is longer obviously is a full brother Mohammed and a half years day. There's a lot there in the pedigree just really impressive on paper and it was good to see him run as well as he did you know He. He broke his maiden at nine furlongs last summer at Saratoga and it looks like okay. Here's a real two year old and I you know he ran into you. Go into a little bit shorter and the breeder security at keeneland and Max field because two things came together and got him beat but he's definitely better horse than he showed that day and it was good to see him back it up the trump
Thousands in Puerto Rico without power after earthquakes
"The recent earthquakes importer Rico have caused widespread power outages on the island leaving thousands of residents without electricity and while the power authority says it's restored electricity to around ninety six percent of the population intermittent outages remain the damages particularly severe in the southwest where officials say it could take more than a year to repair a major power plant in the region and but it bother Porter Rican electric power authority has been in crisis for years dealing with crumbling infrastructure frequent power outages and bankruptcy and that's why some community organizations like the Porter Rico community foundation are taking matters into their own hands they've started installing micrograms in low income areas after hurricane Maria Nelson Cologne the president of the organization says they've already completed for projects serving sixty four communities Weber whole land was global back in those for a proud day war powers by solar so they didn't have one day of corruption they didn't have any major style and they keep moving forward under former governor regardless say you'll Porter Rico had made an ambitious commitment to get one hundred percent of its energy from renewable sources like solar by twenty fifty but since Rosales resignation last summer those plans remain uncertain I'm joined now by Michael diapered an author and journalist based in San Juan and Sergio marques watch a policy director for the center for new economy also in San Juan thank you both for joining us thank you Michael you've been reporting on the aftermath of last week's earthquake tell us what the infrastructure looks like in the places that you visited so far I mean it's striking really I mean particularly in Quantico which was I would say the community most of your he hit on the south and the ironically also with the US military first landed in eighteen ninety eight when they when they invaded Puerto Rico you you have pretty widespread destruction and I would say the population as well you know there's quite a bit of of collapsed buildings and very few people still actually living in the in the center of the city a lot of people have moved elsewhere or living in you know make shifter temporary accommodations what is the power situation like in that region in the southwest part of the island I think it's come back in in some places but so many people are living in such kind of improvised accommodations I mean I don't think a lot of people have regular access to the fruits of electricity as there is you're used to having when they're living in their own homes and of course prep service can be somewhat spotty in normal times so to speak so that's been something that's been an ongoing problem even before the earthquake Michael you mentioned but I by which is the Porter Rico electric power authority there been calls for the executive director Jose R. tease to resign that's been hash tag Jose Ortiz great noon see ya tell us about that where does that stand I mean I think people are are pretty upset with his performance in an interview he said that you know he was called to lead prep and he didn't send the CD and anyone which I think gave a not really great impression to people about his attitude towards the crisis Sir your what it where his famous stand I mean we know they've had a spotty record with that the island so far since hurricane Maria are they able to repair the grid Congress actually appropriated two billion dollars just after you Ricky Maria twenty seventeen and they were your market specifically to modernize the grid that money unfortunately has not been disbursed yet deferral garment I don't know if it's for you must fault if it's the office of management and budget but something you definitely is holding up the money in Washington DC so you don't last may we said put Rico announced a very ambitious plan this is under governor because but our CEO who since stepped down after protests mounted on the island he set out an ambitious plan to get all of the islands electricity from renewables by twenty fifty what progress has the island made since then unfortunately very little approximately around five percent of all the electricity produced and put a recall right now comes from regal sources it's going to be very difficult to reach that target at this space we need of prep and the private sector to start investing a lot more aggressively in this renewable sources or otherwise we're just probably gonna miss it at all and not just the deadline I mean Sir do you do you think that this is ultimately a solution for these infrastructure issues given that there been natural disasters like hurricane Maria like the earthquakes going forward well it would certainly help as as we listened to doctor call on it he did mention that you know those communities that have access to many greats that were connected to solar panels did not suffer an outage and and that's the whole point I mean we're trying to change the system from a centralized system where you have five or six big units around the island to a lot of smaller generation capacity heated in many points across the island so when we have an earthquake say you want to go which is in the southwest part of the island these girls for example doesn't have to suffer a complete outage we mentioned that since oversee your has stepped down and there's been a lot of change importer Rico not just said natural disasters but also politically one bass was is the new governor of the island and she's got a new administration is their political will Sergio to continue to push for solar at that level that's going to be an interesting question Mrs basket is is from the same party as going across the yellow so in theory she would not have any political constraints in terms of pushing forward however she hasn't been very clear as to what your plan is going forward and of course we have elections in November so that could change everything Michael when you talked to residents of the island have been affected by this most recent wave of earthquakes our people all talking about solar energy directly are they talking about what one to Vasquez's saying or not saying or or are there concerns much more basic than that I think one thing is that people feel like they've been extremely battered in recent years but these natural disasters and it's really you know kind of rocking them back on their heels yet again and I think you know one thing that a lot of folks on the ground here is that they're just wondering I think English perhaps the state as a whole could be a little bit more responsive to their needs I think a lot of people may be feel that you know that the political parties in San Juan and it's an interesting figure that I always remembers that like seventy percent of the energy importer Rico I think it is is created in the south of the country and the usage is seventy percent of the north so it's kind of with this reverse relationship that places have and I think a lot of these people who don't necessarily feel like the political actors in in San Juan in the capital or really necessarily advocating for their interests all the time so here we've seen that to that point that some communities have decided to take the situation into their own hands and build their own solar power networks without government help how common is it for folks to do that and how effective is it it became a big part of the solution if you will just after here in my area because they were communities as you know that where without power for almost a year after the year Ricky so there there was a lot of interest mostly from the private sector and NGOs to try to get some independence from the government owned you know electricity company and there has been some success in terms of getting electricity many greats in some of the most isolated communities but we still have a long ways to go it's not a a hundred percent solution right now given that you know solar powers and agreed that we have it's really old so the greed will have to be modernized in order for poor regal to really scare up to the goals that were set up by gore and offers a yellow but it's it's a good start and also as I mentioned earlier we're still waiting for a significant amount of money that will be used to rebuild it read which is an essential component of reconfiguring the whole electricity system yeah Sergio marques watches the policy director for the center for a new economy and Michael divert as an author and journalist based in San Juan thanks to you both I
Early Thoughts Before Pre-Entries
"Gossip Good Morning Good Morning Steve. How're you doing good to be back home glad to whatever you want you know it's open open mic DOC whatever is ready and of course you follow gusts through everybody's followed gusts forever from day one on at the races and got a couple of plays maybe for the weekend gus but some some early thoughts before pre entries as we look Toward Cup it's always talked before pre entries but breath just looking at the races exciting exciting racist to get excited about it I think cameras just said I think the sprint and the dirt mile probably the two right now but I mean we have three solid juvenile's with noon Dennis moment eight rings and and Max Bill which I think three of those are very quality horses and just looking to see how these fields shape up but I mean I'll see you know some great opportunities in those fourteen racist for sure what we haven't obviously we haven't had a chance to talk anything on a consistent basis but what do you like to do when it comes to terms of a ticket structures and and focus in how many how many multi-race wagers which one's the utilize the most I'll tell you what you know you get these big fields I had the most success with exactly is in doubles to tell you the truth sometimes simple the up keep it simple and You get I mean you get a lot of value and those plays with the you know arch fields in and actually pick a couple of wide open races I usually focus on that I do tickets with the you know the picked force and I like to find at least one single maybe to deepen the other one and maybe spread that's what I kind of look forward definitely a single though in the pick four pick five I definitely need one host but I think even the pick threes you know the pick threes are they paid handsomely in the last few years as well but I think people you know who spoke with the exact in the doubles I mean you can get some real value if you if you got a good opinion onto racist back to back you can get paid well and we were in fact last week with Jeff Siegel this came up and when I was asking Jeff about his preparations and when it comes to the a ticket building and and we'll remind everybody that as much time as we spend handicapping the gotta spend a hundred percent the maybe not maybe not practical to spend as much time building the tickets but there's gotta come a point Wednesday Thursday where you you've got a pretty good idea of of the horses you're going to key around take a break from I'm from the handicapping and put pen to paper and write down the your perspective wagers and budgeted out and and you know take a look at the you know once we get the announcement I think it's on the twenty third by the way runs day the twenty third will be the race order official order announcement the Breeders Cup has a tendency to the tinker with it based on on the way the field size shape up you know look at that structure highlight the spots where you've got your strongest opinion and then back up on either side of those strong opinions if you're a mother erased player and you know we keep suggesting you know if you if you typically pick four player okay fine you're going to play your series of fake force but this is where you take a step back to and play more pick threes and the doubles and I I I think it's advice that I try to drive home every single u a year that you you don't WanNa have some of your best ideas the horses that end up winning that you had a good feel for an and then you didn't cash because there's some upset in the third or fourth leg of a pick four and you you didn't leverage your good idea as strongly as you might have oh I totally agree with that you know like you said once the the race orders come in just pick your spots we have your strongest opinions and then you go from there I mean that's I mean horse players nightmare there were your your ten to one shot twelve the one shot comes in and then you're single maybe a three to one shot you know doesn't come in the last leg and you didn't have anything on on on your your strongest opinion the price that's that's tough pill does Walla sometimes no doubt gusts will obviously you know get a chance to direct people toward you and and the analysis at at Brisbane that and Talk Again Cup Week maybe you know pick out a a a spot that you know the to discuss what what he did complain of of late how much keeneland action you taking it definitely on the weekends for sure and dabbling a little bit during the week I mean some great racing the weather's been fantastic and big fields they're coming to an end here this weekend but got a couple of plays today actually Keelan let me here let me let me see got hold on I got the where's where's my keeneland Friday Thursday AK with Saturday I keep the Friday about what's going on down believable there's so much there's so many things here did you play Gulfstream yesterday by the way did you play the pick five thing a little bit I did I did and got knocked out pretty early believe it or not you would not price horse which is Kinda it'll happen yeah oh yeah it was over quick so it's pretty full paid well for me though for the for the amount of low prices that were that were at three was a signal and the third leg so I know it's funny that that was the that was the horse that gave the opportunity to to to tip toe to turn it into a pick four but yet I do get the sense a lot of people got tripped up either on the in the first leg or the last leg where the two spots we're GONNA WE'RE GONNA get the one side of the other well let's talk about Qinglin go ahead what are you got today seven just my best friend today force MS coming out of the Woodbine Mile Bill Seventy eight to one mile with a chaining hill started the outside somehow he he maneuver beautifully coming into the turn but down the stretch is totally got shut off had nowhere to go I thought he had nice I made a move just didn't have enough to go this horse has been running good all year up at Woodbine five draws the five here which is which is ideal nine to two is very fair price is a loaded racist could be a stakes race disallowance this allowance race but I like plot I think he's going to get a good trip there's enough speed in front where he's going to be right in stock and right behind I mean he's faced some nice horses I think this is the time to to get in this at somewhere of now ninety two would it be beautiful if we can get that and I think we will because you know the outside you have a few horses that are going to take some money especially Colin Road for for Michael Maker Jose Ortiz that was gonNA take somebody coming out of ah graded great three but ms I think is the wholesome and a key on all over in in starting reporter and race seven and Connor Murphy for whatever reason Connor Murphy does not does not draw money and wins I mean he wins plenty does a good job interesting to see Mark Glatt come to keeneland souter shows up here yet pick source interesting ski Churchill last time kind of finished pretty decent but it's a nice horse was nice races earlier in the year so and you got Roselle Rosario on board into feature the feature very nice race today again the the greatest Devali view fulfilled I think by horses winter sunset four eight to one on the morning line think might get a couple of clicks down I mean she's versatile I don't know if she wants to go nine furlongs I think she kinda flattens out at nine furlongs the mile amount of sixteenth which is I think this is her her best distance coming off a win at Indiana ground at any grant she's got a nice post and she's just a nice trip there there's some speed lined up to the inside I think she can get I run and I mean the twelve is going to be flying late this lady the prince a lot for Baltistan she's eight to one I think she comes down from that I can see here making a big move middle of course coming down the lane but winterson that's it for me eight to one would be great I think she gets I run on on on the closers and should sit a nice trip there again for channing hill it's now and Bhartiya earlier to Mardi landed on winter sunset yeah I'm not sure what the price I think she might down from Chad you've got to chat horses that are Ya Chad takes money like you you saw yesterday focus group was was really over bet yeah I like him but it's too crazy I'll tell you what I have a bomb in the second race so a bomber I'm GonNa take just fly the one horse abstinent for Ian Wilkes make third start first time on on the turf going to turns Bravo Bravo couple of wins from six starts the meat this horse broke the last couple of times I starts his career broke out think the inside post and Bravo might be able to as well she's fifteen to one in the morning line you might get fifteen twenty to one hundred Meta take a flyer on her and also gotTa pick for tonight at down coming
Jose Ortiz Interview - October
"Welcoming Jose Ortiz who is a native of Puerto Rico and his one more than nineteen hundred races in what has been just a a stellar career and that career still going strong and he's with me now here on H. R. N. Jose Good Morning My friend Mike give having yeah. Thanks for taking a little time. I know you're a busy working horses. This morning. Never ends does it does not if you want to be the best which right now you certainly are my friend Brendan. You know it's interesting. I mentioned being a native of Puerto Rico one of the jockeys who mentored you when you came here and one of the people that you looked up to is his hall of Famer Johnny Velazquez who last week set the record for most greatest stakes victories by jockey in the history of the sport and that has to make you very proud. I know that yeah yeah we are happy about it and it keeps going throwing you know hopefully he can give winning some more on winning out much again until you know until heater dyers what makes him so good then you got a lot of these. Atlanta for the sport and I think that having taken to the next level where he's been for awhile you know yeah he certainly he's been doing it for a long time and still doing it at a very high level. How many great stakes victories are you behind him now. I don't know I have made the way to go yeah one day well that win yesterday and the Phoenix was impressive. This is a horse. You've you've been on before you knew him. You get back aboard him yesterday and he's able to hold off Whitmore who was putting in that late run. Take me through the race Jose. Well we broke. We broke very good. expect expecting a much faster pace but they did in in came out of five dollars. I thought they would and I was able to be closer than I than I thought. I was going in two weeks so I think that well We have a very pain trip when I ask him to. Well what they're for me the whole time. You know he's a horse worse by intimacy if that when you were riding him last year and even this year at Saratoga he was trained by Chad Brown now he's trained by Steve Asmussen. Ah when you were riding him before he was always knocking on the door but he couldn't quite get past horses like promises fulfilled you yesterday you beat him and everybody everybody else. Is there a difference. Did you feel something different now with engage than you did last year. He always been a ah very nice or worse. I think some more mature before others on. I think he'd take a while but I think he finally figured out you know. Did you know that Moore was gaining on your yesterday. I didn't knew what Whitmore Kabaya fell somebody coming out. You can tell yeah I could yeah. Did you know you had enough left in the tank. He very game he always has been and I knew what GonNa try but you know something this all horrors you know he's just turned four so there's all live orders season and they are very good. You know they they come in. They coming at you like wait Marino. He's very nice or you know that win. In the Phoenix was part of a Multi Win Day on opening day of Keeneland then you you've had several days in your career where you've won multiple races like that. I asked you what makes John Velazquez so good. What makes Jose Ortiz so good. I don't let somebody out of that. Answer that question. I guess right to be myself on gave that horses the best chance to win but you also worked very hard I mentioned you're out working in horses this morning. I know you're being humble and and that's what's part of makes you part of. What makes you so good but Jose you work your tail off and put me the in in the saddle with you for minute if you will if I can use that term take me through like your routine in your approach to riding races. How do you get ready to go out there. Every day and ride was everything star on the when the overnight comes up so I have to see we shorts on on quantum there I go the R F and and they got the raises and I put him whatever I think they should be and you know I have to talk to a trainers on and follow their their instructions but at the same time I want to I want her to be relax and that's that's what I try to be happy and I think they control and relaxed. We'll give you a running the end of it yeah you know. Johnny will always tell tell me about his different plans that he has going into the starting gate the plan a plan b the Plan C. and you hope you don't have to get any further than that but once the gates open you can listen to the trainers instructions all day long but once the gates open things can change quickly right very quickly. What do you you do at that point. Do you say Oh my God. I gotTa follow his instructions or do you say I just gotTa. Let my instincts takeover in and try to ride this race the way it needs to be ridden now so you've got to let your instincts they over because it's very tough to execute a plan when their plan doesn't work from from the gate you know. Yep You gotta change everything so I think you just gotTa Julia uh-huh. Yeah everything you could do everything changes in and you just have to adjust and that's why I've always said you know jockeys in terms of there's always that debate are jockeys true athletes athletes and I think you know I've said for years but pound for pound jockeys the most gifted athletes that we find in all sports and I have no doubt about it and you're certainly right there Jose. Let's talk about the horses that you're going to be aboard today. You're in all of the great stakes races at keeneland which is to be expected matter of fact. Thank you might be riding every single race at keeneland today. nice to be in demand extravagant. Kid is a horse. You're going to be aboard in the WOODFORD stakes. That's is the first greatest stakes today. What can you tell me about. Extravagant kid very nice hard. I had the opportunity to ride him. One time before and we won he's doing very good very fox. "Would maybe fit that profile, but he's the one that's left standing at the moment. And I think he does fit that profile, I think, fortunately enough, I mean, his is already had three Belmont winter. So I mean that gives us some confidence that he gets a mile and a half Tacitus has the attributes that make a good Gaumont to watch in move watching over the ground. He's gotta take huge stride long strive. He's very easy movie. Arse doesn't struggle to do his work. It looks like it's effortless for him and finishes his works. He comes back to the barn, and two or three rounds around the Barneys recovered from these greediness normal. So, you know, we think he's got the cardiovascular system respiratory system in the physical makeup. I mean he's got the body type to get him coming into today's Belmont, has confidence Tacitus and his jockey Jose Ortiz. I think just being sma-. Field being a little longer race. Some writers being more careful on fast. They're going, I think it'll automatically put him up a little bit closer to Mohseni knows the first she's women in several times is actually come to work in now twice gone into this race. So I think he's they're learning a little more of each other all the time. You know, I could imagine Jose wanting to be close. And if Jose hasn't closer today that could be trouble for the rest of the field test is coming in, as a fresh horse and the criticism of Tacitus heading into the derby, was that he didn't have enough speed wasn't fast enough in that mile and a quarter race. "The airplane model is the same. Some key. Circumstances are remarkably similar on the outcome was equally tragic. It's no wonder then that a number of questions are being raised about the safety of Boeing's, seven thirty seven max, eight aircraft. The accident. Drew immediate parallels to yuck. Tober crash of a lion air plane in Indonesia that killed one eighty nine. But experts warn that doesn't mean the reasons they plummeted were the same more from Jose Ortiz staff reporter at USA today, or he explain some of the Gertrude six of the crash were very similar, you know, shortly after takeoff the polish run into a problem. They try to return to the airport, and they can't make it and indicates OPA lion air in Indonesia. They haven't ascertained across. But one of the areas are looking at is a were the automatic flight control that cost it plane the plane's nose to go down. And then the the plane ended up most diving into the into the sea. And so. This one one of the scary aspect of this crisis. Yet, the nosedive was so steep that day was barely any recognisable pieces of. Most of this stuff was broken applied into just a million pizzas. So so that tells you that the depletion crash at a tremendous amount of speed, and they don't know why. Why yet they don't know the same reason? Because of some of the similarities, it's you know there. There's an initial connection there. Now experts warn you don't jump to conclusions yet needs to be investigation about this. But those two characteristics. Going to provide a strong link, and it's scaring people away. Why is there's least one person in your story saying you can't blame Boeing just yet? How come because it's too early because you need to find out what were the factors involved. You look at the brief field. You look at. I think that you ever recovered the black boxes. So you analyze that information Dearie, they look at a lot of different factors to determine what? Because what I mean the lion? Air crash was four and a half months ago, and you still haven't occasionally determine it costs. So these things take a lot of time. And we don't know yet. What the cause was. That's why the people I spoke with the accuracy don't jump to a conclusion yet. Know, the the awesome suspicions development. Terrorism. But just you know, just that connection between the two, but it's way growing to make that determination speaking with Horry Ortiz Steph reporter at USA today talking about questions raised regarding safety for that Boeing seven thirty-seven max that went down in Ethiopia over the weekend. You wrote that's a Boeing did not take the costly step of retraining pilots on a new feature of the flight control system. When an introduced this this max eight in two thousand seventeen what's the significance of that? Well, they they argue that the plan is similar enough to some of the seven thirty seven thirty seven models that the pilots should be able to to know what to do in an emergency. Like this develops were function in the flight control system. But if the pilots I wanna know every single new development on a plane, I wanna know any lewd a change because it could affect. What happens if the plane had the good life? Lots of people. Yeah. My own as a pilot. So. I think they somebody by by not doing the retraining because I can be expensive. But is there a connection between that? And and these crashes. You start to wonder now, particularly you know, that first one there seems to be a connection and right after that point out in a dietary. The pilots. This is how you know you disengage that system, but those pilots of day lion. Air pilots did not know about it. What should be pointed out is that the lion air plane had they had been reports about maintenance issues or previous flight where that's not the case with this with this plane. So that's why it's not right to jump to conclusion right away because there there could be other factors involved. Some of the people I spoke with it. It's never one thing that causes a plane crash. It's always a series of things. So we don't know what those series those or hey, Jose Ortiz staff reporter at USA today..

The new who they who was playing in that game. I don't know. Nobody until they said Arizona exact that was it. No one knew that was in everybody. See that. Did you see it? He codified his head. Comes in. It was a shot from the top of the key and hit the front iron and came back. I mean, I wouldn't say it's going hundred miles an hour, but he ricocheted pretty hard anywhere to catch. It. Like caught it and took it behind his head. And then flipped it in with like point four seconds left in the end up winning the game. You know, it's sad. Like, I was pumped. And I was like sweet that's playing I was like. We just beat Oregon state. I'm pumped. What the hell's going on around here? What's the Recco? Arizona their third the Pac twelve good. They're better than we are even though we beat them twice. But there I think we're seven. Oh, yeah. It's not good. Although it's all you have to go to the patriots all pretty compressed. But yeah, it was like, yeah. Yeah. What did take on the beavers? What the we did what beavers isn't the eighties? Yes. So Ralph Miller Miller Ralph Miller court, but if there's no Jose Ortiz. Charlie said, no east. Steve Johnson, Gary payden, those guys are there. Oh, man. And then how about Cal? I saw. Oh, good. That is not a good look for the league. No lost. What are they lost? Like fifteen sixteen hundred zero cows not good in Cal Cal. Cal took him down took down the huskies that if you're an optimist, you say, well that shows the death of the league, and then you'd have to and then you have to laugh it's their first conference. I know they're brutal. Brutal. But congrats to go party get crazy. You beat the huskies. Pac twelve conference champions. Eight. Well, you're seventeen and twelve over although you're going to the CBI C H HI or I'm hoping come on THC. It'd be nice. I like that. Go to the THC. Attorney. I gotta do is. When the Pac twelve someone's gotta win that damn thing. That's true might as well be us might as well be the Wildcats winning the Pac twelve turning someone's gotta win it. And there's nobody in there that I'd say is a lock nobody ASU's had some good wins. Washington's the best team in the league, but not dominant. You have to do is look at last night. UCLA has some talent. I mean there there there's some teams in their organ in the bottom half of the bracket, and they have some talent. And just it's it's badly. It's a really anybody could win. You know, what's funny is if Washington doesn't win the tournament that loss against Cao could take them off of the. Off of the selection committee's minds when it comes to at large bids. It's like, dude. Sorry. You lose the cow. You can't go to the tournament. That's ever. It's in our bylaws done says right here, you lose the cow. You can't go. We'd love to have you be fun. Just can't do it. Six thirty specials. US man has been accused of staging his own elaborate kidnapping devoid paying out a lost Super Bowl. Bet rubber Brandel sixty tied up in his truck near Buffalo New York on Wednesday told officers he had been abducted by two armed men two days earlier, but police were suspicious that appear to be clean shaven and calm. The Ramsey take the took the overtake the coin toss. All no. No. That's the one thing. I took the Rams and the game and losing. But at least felt like even those a crappy game like the Rams had a chance. There is always a chance that they might get some fluky and comeback win the game. And you feel like okay, the underdog I need to do is win. It could happen. If you bet the over your it is toast. You had no chance. It's not college. It's not LSU and am where you like going to overtime like, oh, hey scoreboard. Get fifty points in overtime. We'll get lucky. No. That's not like one of my one of my favorite lucky overtime wins in the history of lucky overtime wins was always mentioned the bad beads because there are more fun. Nobody wants to hear that you one. They wanna hear you loss. Jackie, but I had Stanford laying seven and a half over USC. I don't know what it was six seven years ago. Call. The coliseum. Both score touchdown extra point. Both score. A touchdown extra point third. Overtime. You have to go for two. Thank goodness. For me. Stanford at the ball. I they get it score two point conversion as he gets it. Completes the pass about to score. And it's about the one yard line. They fumbled. And Stanford recovered in zone by eight thank you very much. Appreciate it. Pam bear has released a statement very quickly. And she backs up Larry bears contention that she had a foot injury. And that's why she felt she said I'd like to clarify the events for today. My husband, and I had an argument public about which we are quite embarrassed. I took his cellphone he wanted it back. I do not want to give it back. I started to get up in the chair was sitting MB get a tip, dude. An injury sustained my foot three years ago. I lost my balance. I did not sustain any injury based on what happened eight Larry. I have always been and are still and still are very happily married. I don't know that change everybody's opinion. But there you go. Fantastic. I'm never I never know. What people's motivation is to? I mean, look at certain points. But I mean, this is a wrestling. And I was a he'll stand up say suck. It is what I would do whatever big belt safe. But I I'm not going to cause. I don't know what happened. I don't know what happened. I don't know what their motivation is. I don't know. Did they cry? That's my mind. Yeah. Did okay. But I don't know what she did it no idea. But I don't I was saying I was doing that as an Asian. I'm not gonna do it because I don't really feel that way. But I I don't know. Right. I agree with you. I don't know. Statements come out. It just seems to me at that point. It's you know, let's minimize this thing because people want they know what people wanna hear. And let's just go ahead. And what you want in that situation. I've never been in that situation. But I'm assuming what they want that situation is what are we having this hand that would distract you from what's over in this hand. So we'll just say the right things, and guess what they could be. They could be dead on Larry said could be dead. Pam said could be dead on absolutely dead on. But we're not in that home. Now, if she's going to say the my foot was injured. That's why I felt I was trying to stand up and hold onto the phone. Maybe I haven't looked at it that closely to determine when did she fall how much grip pressure was there up top. Did he pull her over? Did she fall because of him or did she fall? Because of her foot was injured. I don't know. And I thought you said something earlier, and I totally agree with this. That if it wasn't for the scream, it'd be totally different as I mean, you could have sounds like bloody murders happening. She says. Oh, no God. Yeah. When I when I heard that I was like, oh my gosh. Like, you feel like someone's beating somebody? That's what gets everybody has. And it was. Blood-curdling maybe strong. But it was resonated changes. The absolutely the whole. Yeah, you're like oh gosh. If there's no sound again, it's not good. And it's like you said it's an incident if you're walking by it's something that catches your eye. It's not good. None of it's good. That's why we're the releasing all these statements, but the the sound of it is like, whoa. Yeah. Yeah. No, absolutely. But again, I don't I don't pretend to know what's in her heart. I don't pretend to know what's in his heart. I just know the all I can go on is what I saw. That's it for me. It's not conjecture. Thank guessing. It's that's what I saw. Did. I see everything. No, do I have complete context. No. Of course. I don't. I don't know what happened right before they started arguing, I don't know. What's going on at home? I don't I don't know. A lot of things that can could help you understand. What happen all I can do is say this is a video. This is what I saw this is what I think of that video. That's it. That's it. That's all I could do trust me. I not that these are similar because they're absolutely not. If you listen to what we said during the two weeks of Bryce Harper three weeks, if you'd literally everything pretty much wrong pretty much aids. Villian? He doesn't even want the money. Oh, he wanted the money absolutely wanted the money, and it probably doesn't like Philly or doesn't have or doesn't dislike for that much sent thirteen years. But it was about the money. So anytime you start guessing you're probably going to be wrong. You're probably going to be wrong. Now in this business, you end up getting a little bit and try to make an educated guess because that's what we do. Because you don't what does it here. Like this. The thing that doesn't move the meter, and it's not like we're doing it to move to meter you just talk you just talk and to say stupid things. Sometimes you do. It is threaded. Okay. What's your best guesstimate on this? What do you think happened? And again, all I can go on is what I saw but ten seconds. That's it that the whole story. Of course, it isn't. But that's what that's what you go on. And. You know, do you take people with their word? Well, I guess you kind of have to. I mean, you can you don't have to totally say like, oh that's one hundred percent truth because you don't as you said, you don't know what all the motivation here. But I mean, what are you gonna do say? Oh, I dismiss that. When somebody comes up and says, something you say now, you're line. What what does that have you know, because I know you do. Yeah. I don't know. But I know. All right moving on. Let's move on. So there you go really this to me..

"It that situation is is is selling usual that to me signaled that he was obviously trading. Very well. Good worse. And if anybody's never watched the Lexington they should watch it again because he was in position to possibly win that race come stretch. And I don't know what happened but Jose Ortiz, basically, eased them, and means obvious. You can see it. It's not and and obviously Jose thought something had gone wrong or something and it had and I liked him into subsequent stars because of that and one of them came up. I don't have the piece in front of me. But one of them came up sloppy track that was a big speed track. And the other one he was chasing the pace that was incredibly fast. It's just completely incinerated in the stretch. And I thought he ran a lot there that look. And I was kinda when forward to him and then moderate on the turf. Fortunately, he actually wondering second in not particularly good race got the perfect trip. And he wanted he got a trip against the wheel bat horse. And then they ran back on the turf, and we was wide and he man okay, fourth. But Michelle Nevin they gave them shell Nevin. And she put him back in the dirt and everything sort of changed. Right. He's just he's right now for good race for a second three. I think three wins and running faster fix now. He was he was fortunate. The goal for the king was was was blocked in that say, Florida, sandy. And and you know, whether he would want or not it's hard to know. But he definitely. No chances mitigate by his trip, and he had a clean outside trip up. But I think his is improvement is less apprising than others. And I imagine that bots that surprise looking at it because for to run them in that race first time this year indicates that he you know, had high. Okay for me. It's not the kind of movie makes in New York bread. Like that. You know, we had what all we had imagined. It was possible that he was somewhat encouraged by the fact that he'd had that good second to maiden race to audible, but the audible that beat him, you know, at the end of two thousand seventeen act was not the audible ran it Gulfstream audible improved in leaps and bounds from his performances and act to was the Holy Bull. I think he won first time data Florida and people would forget with audible Todd wasn't bringing audible Florida audible was entered in the Damon Runyon, and the Damon Runyon was one of a number of stakes that were cancelled and rescheduled a number of. Times because the tweaks cancellations we had around the new year last year. And I think that Todd that frustrated by the cancellations, and that's why shouldn't Florida, but that was very different audible valleys of a very nice horse. Audible he's not as good as you know. I, you know, audible got so much of that height bright because of the, you know, the tin foil hat people with the you know, he's should be running in the Belmont. And you know, there's some conspiracy here and all that nonsense. He wasn't waiting about. Anyway, they were fooled by his you know, his his getting this. He was the only horse to closed the derby. Well, he wasn't the only we're supposed to because it was a slow pace. He's only because you only showed up in the derby. Besides I two finishes. Everybody else is completely didn't show opera. Dysentery good. And I think is larva derby performance while it was decent with someone exposed by this up from reforms of Hochberg throughout the year. While the Knight's horse. I think that he had gotten some sort of mystical status because of that nonsense surrounding that the that the notion is connection should have run them in the Belmont Stakes where nobody in the right mind would've, and because of that he sort of got this sort of always really good horse. And then he came back and reality intervened. As it always does, of course, raise him give it enough time enough opportunities. So anyway. That was a segue from outer up to audible. Who I suppose heading the fantasies? Oh, yeah. He's all set. I hit taught on Monday. I guess I mean..
