I mean, sure, the ALE schedule is tough to close the season, but still what, say you buster. Yeah, so those playoff chances are based on statistical algorithm. And I understand where they get how they do their numbers. Here's where the Orioles don't really apply is that they've got a lot of guys on their team who have emerged this year. Veteran guys on their pitching staff and they have rookie you don't really have a track record. So I don't think that the Orioles really fit the classic examples of teams when they're building an algorithm like that. And Dave, I totally agree with you. If you look at it right now, I think the URL is getting in the playoffs. Wow. Today, I think they'll actually get in because they're playing so well. The Blue Jays are, you know, they're kind of hanging in there, but they're not necessarily playing well. I would say I'm just going to throw this out there, Taylor. If they wind up missing the playoffs by one game, I wonder what the conversation is going to be. I wonder, I wonder. I put it like 37 and a half percent. I'm not putting it over 50. And on top of that, I have been really surprised that the front office during the course of the year did not make a deal to balance out that lineup. It's such a right handed lineup in the postseason. It's going to be tough for that to play. We actually saw that with some of the blue J teams from 2015, 2016, the Jose Bautista teams where when you had a lineup that was so stacked on one side Yankee teams of 2017, 2018, when you have a line if it's not balanced, it's a problem when you face good teams. Tough look for the Blue Jays. Adam, who I'm not even gonna wait until this Adam KP, you know who you are. If Mookie betts were hitting 300 or higher, would he be included in the NL MVP discussion given what he's been doing from the lead off spot and in the field there aren't many guys I'd rather have on my team. Yeah, he's going to definitely be in the top three, but Paul Goldschmidt to me is a runaway leader right now. Last one for the week. "Early in New York. And at that point, they've been staving off panic in New York for a little while now guys. They've been trying to tell themselves everything's gonna be okay. Everything's gonna be fine and they needed a walk off Grand Slam from Josh Donaldson the night before and now the Yankees can't get to Jose barrios who entered the game with a 5.61 ERA. Howard Bryant is going to talk a lot about Yankees panic. Are you guys panicking yet? Or are you Taylor wearing your Orioles cap right now sitting there and doing the Montgomery burns hands together? I'm definitely panicked for the Yankees fans. I know the Yankees fans started panicking weeks ago, but you know, it is fun to watch them collapse. This was a tricky situation 'cause you know I don't want the Blue Jays to build the gap on the world anymore. So tough to know who to root for in this one, but I do like seeing the Yankees fans squirm in the wind. Aaron Boone, not squirming yet. Worried about the lead in the division because he had such a big lead. No, this is about us playing well. If we play well, that takes care of itself. You know, obviously, we haven't played well enough in the last ten days. So I think it's more just a rough patch of us not playing well. We have to play better. But I'll sit there and think about this lead or it's about us handling our business. If we do that and play the game we're capable of playing the rest of the way, we'll be in good shape, but we got to do that. I call the area on my face where facial hair doesn't grow, the rough patch, I do not call what the Yankees have been doing for the last month and a half, by the way. Not ten days, this is going back like a month and a half, a rough patch. This is, this is a team that has flaws and those flaws have been exposed and Giancarlo Stanton can not get back soon enough. Lest we spend too much time on the Yankees, I live in the Midwest. "So there's, again, always the makings of a contender when you have trapped note, but maybe this will be the year that they finally surround them with a supporting cast. I have two thoughts about this. Well, I have several thoughts but two most immediately to mind. The first comes from front of the show Emma bachelor who tweeted when this deal was announced much as I like to think I'm decently immune to superstitious thinking, I know that I'm not, because my immediate reaction to being approached by the angels is a picture with an injury history would definitely be sorry thing. But the weird vibes I can't. It does feel like the angels pitching stuff and the mets general inability to keep anyone healthy stuff or colliding in a way that seems very dicey, although is not in any way predictive of what will happen with syndergaard in this season. I do find here's the thing that I was struck by, I was talking about this with Ben Clemens in the fairing grass slack, and he pointed this out and I tend to agree. Kind of weird that it's a one year deal, yeah? Yeah, I guess so. Like, I get it from syndrome's perspective. If I am him, I want to reestablish value and show that I can throw maybe not a full complement of innings, but very good innings when I do throw them and the angels have said they're going to go with a 6 man rotation. And so I'm going to be in a position to manage my workload and hopefully stay healthy and then launch into something greater. But I find the decision on the angels part to go one year to be kind of odd because it's like if you're surrendering the draft pick, don't you normally? I think we often see these deals for more than one year. I guess is the point that I'm trying to make. And so that part of it is a little bit strange. I mean, there's definitely the possibility that in July, we look around and we're like, God, the angels rotation. It's fantastic. And there's also the possibility we look around in July and we're like porno with syndrome. That guy just can't help. Yeah, I guess sometimes you see those multiyear deals with a pitcher who still rehabbing his way back and it's like, okay, we'll just we'll sign you for two years and we don't even expect you to pitch the first year or maybe you'll be back late in the first year, but we'll have that cushion and if everything works out well, then it will be good for us because we'll have you for a second year center guard, maybe he feels like, hey, I'm just a healthy starting pitcher. Now I made it back and my rehab is over, but yeah there's definitely a bigger error bar and more uncertainty there. You can look at the rotation and say, okay, Otani, cinder geir Sandoval, Suarez, detmers, you've got a couple other guys in the mix, Griffin canning, Jaime barea. Cobb and Bundy are both free agents. But really, that's another case of like, well, if everything works out, okay, that could be a contending team's rotation, but when has everything worked out for the angels? So I would not be comfortable unless they were decided at minimum one more dependable starting pitcher. And I know that they've kind of talked about short term options and they've been linked to Verlander and again, not that would be a safer bet that center card, either coming off of his TA and at his age, so it would be kind of nice if they signed like, I don't know, Eduardo Rodriguez, for instance, but someone who is still available who does not have some serious injury issues attached to him prior to his arrival on the angels. Yeah. And then brio's, you know, it's an extension, so I don't have as much to say about it. But this is a case where the Blue Jays gave up a lot of pretty good prospects to get brio for the stretch run. They're a team that was kind of like in the tigers boat last off season where they were ramping up and the rebuild was done, and they were going to throw some money around and they did. And then they continued to show their willingness to upgrade the roster in season and brio was a big part of that. And ultimately, unfortunately, they fell short, but they were just tough to beat down the stretch, and they are bringing back most of that team, not the entire team Robbie ray is a free agent, of course, but having brio's who was under team control for one more year to begin with now that they've locked him up long-term. And they don't have to worry about that part of the rotation for a while. So again, they have the great young position player core and the question all along has been where are they going to get the pitching? And they've developed some and they've imported and signed some and traded for some and now extended some and it was actually a really good starting rotation in a good pitching team down the stretch to necessarily start out the season that way. But it was won by the end and brioche was one reason why. Yeah, I really like this. I enjoy it's sort of a funny way to think about this, perhaps, but I really enjoy when guys who have been traded for and to a team had to surrender a good amount in terms of viable prospects and various case top 100 guys to secure then ends up being extended and staying, which is funny because it just is a doubling down of your resource commitment, right? You gave up the prospects and now you're giving up money, but there's something about it that's like, yes, this worked out the way we wanted it to. We really like this guy. We think he's a good fit for the team. He makes us better and we're not going to be intimidated by the prospects that we traded in order to secure his services. We want to keep him around. There's just something about it that I find very satisfying. It's like validating the trade once more, which was a trade we liked at the time, you know, despite it being aggressive in terms of how many guys they had to give up to get them. So I like it. I kind of still would like to see them bring Robbie rape. I don't think that they are, perhaps in the Robbie ray, sweepstakes anymore, I don't know, I don't say that no one anything I just wonder if now that they've extended burritos and they will want to continue to spend on the market that they will shift their focus to the position player side of things because they have indicated that they want to still be active there. But yeah, this is exciting. I like it. Jose barrios is really fun. He's a great pitcher. He'll be good for them for a long time. It's cool. Yeah, I guess if you're a twin fin, you're sort of sad to see it just because you must feel like, hey, we could have signed him to that deal. You know, 7 years, a 131 million. I think people understood why they made that trade because they fell in so far out of the running in 2021 and they got good prospects back, but I guess part of what you're giving up when you trade a player like that away is the fact that the other team gets a chance to keep him for as long as it once gets to talk to him about an extension before he hits the free agent market and maybe the twins might have told themselves, so, you know, we can sign him when he hits the market in a year and a half, but that is not going to happen now. So the twins have to figure out where their pitching is going to come from, but hopefully the prospects they got back will develop in a way that will make it a little more palatable that they won't have Jose breasts. Now I'm Minnesota needs to sign Robbie ray. And then, yes. And then it's all then it's like no trade happened at all..

"Ben, how are you? Doing okay, how are you? Stove. It is starting to get hot. Not even stole league, which is also hot, but yes, the hot stove leak. Pitching market is moving. Move and move in. Yeah, so we got some stuff to discuss today. So we have the Jose barrios extension with the Blue Jays for 7 years, and we have the Eduardo Rodriguez signing with Detroit for 5 years, and then we have the Noah syndergaard signing with the angels for one year for all intriguing moves in their own ways. So things had seemed to start out slowly and we wondered whether the looming CPA negotiations would slow things down. But not in every case, at least it seems like some teams and players are motivated to get deals done before that other deal gets done. Yeah, I think that we had talked about the possibility of some of the non Marquis guys going in this little bit if they found a deal that suited them, although I didn't think that it would be like the Rodriguez's and the cinder guards. I was expecting we'd have like a flurry of reliever moves in this early going. So this is a higher profile of player and a potentially more impactful profile of player just by ritual starters instead of relievers than I was expecting. But it's nice to have a little transaction news to Toyota. So yeah for what might be a long couple of months. Numbers, 13 and 15 on Ben Clemens's fan graphs. 50 free agents list. So let's talk about Rodriguez for a minute 'cause this is one of my favorite off season things when a team to use an old effectively wild reference turns the corner. You know, when you exit the rebuild and you signal that you are ready to compete by making some big free agent splash and Rodriguez on his own may not constitute a big free agent splash it sounds like the tigers are continuing to be in the hunt for other top players. They've been linked to Carlos Correa via rumors, but this is a pretty significant signing and we talked about it last season that the tigers had turned the corner without everyone noticing necessarily, but they started off so slowly with an 8 19 record in April. And not that April doesn't count or that you can toss it out entirely, but they were a winning team from that point forward. They trailed only the White Sox in record among AL central teams after April. So again, like they seem to have the makings of a competitive team already. And now it seems like they are ready to spend. Maybe not to make ilitch levels, but at least to Chris ellich levels, I guess we'll figure out what those levels are. But this is technically a 5 year $77 million deal. There are some incentives there that could bring it up to 80. And there's an opt out after two years. So if things go well, then Rodriguez could test the market again when he's still 30 because he has only 28 now, or maybe he'll just be with the tigers for the long haul, but either way it's one of the things that they need it because they have this young exciting rotation with scuba and mice and Manning and those guys all showed promise at various points. But they needed some innings, they needed someone dependable to round out the rotation and Rodriguez has had his issues in his ups and downs, but he's coming off a good year at least if you dig a little deeper than the surface. That's because I'm sure that there are some tigers fans who are looking at this and thinking what we got a guy with a 4.74 ERA and I'm supposed to be excited about that. But the peripherals are strong. Yeah, he had a career best I believe in strikeouts and a career low walk rate and I think that the tigers infield does not like especially Sterling their defense generally is kind of below average, but it's not as below average as Boston's was this year. Good God, Boston. So you might expect that some things will kind of rebound for him. It's the exit or he's not talked about it with derek from talked about it you broke it down but we talked about it even a little bit before that but yes you guys went into views of three or four. He's he can't. he's been in fastball. And not he's getting be on fastballs in the middle of the plate which is definitely problem. I think many view that as maybe a precursor of something big to happen. I think it is fair to feel underwhelmed. I think it's fair to feel disappointed. I think it's okay. I also think it's fair to believe that this team still has some upside because you know what good thing really happened today. The schedule which gets easier here of the final couple of months. Well just got even easier. The minnesota twins they play them next week traded dudes jose barrios gonna pitch for them next week the pittsburgh pirates who have been awful all year long. They've gotten worse traded. Adam frazier traded francis rodriguez. They got games coming up with the chicago cubs who they've already kind of kicked around this year. And that's why they. The cleveland has kind of been a little bit hesitant to put him back out there after after the first half of this year. But with eddie rosario being out that could mean david peralta could be a very good fit now. David peralta right here is like this season. He's doing pretty is actually doing pretty good. And then i believe it was jay bruce In right field that year and like and then all of a sudden brantley got hurt. The cleveland in resigned brantley Knick win ended up struggling for a couple of years jay. Bruce wasn't resigned. And then all the sudden cleveland's outfield was barren. And you had bradley's zimmer out there shrine to do all of it himself it felt like with with a rental basically so he gave it all to. I think would be an awesome pickup for cleveland Especially with them struggling as much as they had been without. Rosario in the lineup like that is that is glaringly obvious. out in the al. Well we we've talked enough about american league teams Astros could use some relief pitching so could the athletics. The mariners could use a the mariners probably could go out and get nelson cruz but they also could potentially add a outfielder or designated hitter on an expiring contract because if they go and get a rental that is on an expiring contract that they aren't gonna wanna sign because they don't want to block the path for guys like julio rodriguez and jeered kalinic nelson. Cruz is a great fit for him or for them. He is a beast hitter. Still the mariners are in contention angels. I feel like it's really obvious. They they need to go out and get starting pitching danny duffy for the royals would be probably their best option. Just because duffy is not going to be in the playoffs. His contract is expiring. It'd be a really good pickup for the angels. He's a very establ-. He's an established pitcher and established ace. And i think that i really think that if he does go to anaheim then that would be a very very good option for four kansas city. While the mets offense has struggled for most of this year but recent setbacks for carlos for both carlos carrasco and noah syndergaard have been definitely the punch in the gut. I think that new york has because while the in let me let me say this when healthy this mets pitching staff is terrifying. They have jacob. Degrom is probably the best pitcher in baseball. These probably the best pitcher that. We've seen in baseball sin in my opinion since probably prime pedro martinez at the very at or even. Maybe even a prime even prime randy johnson. I think i personally think martinez was a little bit more impressive. But that's the sides the point but the mets also have a lot of talent in this lineup. If linda can bounce back. And pete alonzo. Dominic smith can continue their recent production. Their offense is probably going to correct itself without any major acquisitions. They do have a lot of talent there but they could potential potentially go and get jose barrios from the twins. Now berrios is an absolute stud. And i think that if they do have to trade four jose barrios. I think they're gonna probably have to get rid of carlos carrasco. I think that. I honestly think that if if the mets were to try and trade four jose barrios. I think the mets are going to be giving up to you on walker a. or carlos carrasco and a couple of prospects because that's of that is a beast of a pitcher In seventeen games so far this for the last place minnesota twins in the ale central. I think that would be just hysterical. The braves are up next in my opinion they they're i. I agree with feinstein here. The braves do need a too big bat. The braves have a couple of options because that does sound vague. In who they can acquire in a perfect world a- leftfielder would be the ideal candidate but atlanta could also go and add a third baseman and move austin riley to left either way they do need an additional offense of weapon and it's very very clear so he so finds means suggests that the the braves go out and get joey gallo and i.
